Sociolinguistics and Development of Israel’s Arab Minority
The objective of this report is to give a concise study regarding the Arab minority in Israel. It will
trace some significant issues that have impacted the overall linguistic reality, nevertheless the
marginalization of Arabs in that small but complex country. It will track the language policy adopted
in that country, the educational, political, practical, social, ideological reasons that have lead to the
Arabic status in Israel. Spolsky and shohamy(1999a:41)suggest an obvious difference among three
things, language practices language ideology and language policy.
Language practices are the actual use of linguistic repertoire, that is, the options among language
varieties and languages accessible to a society. Language ideology is ... Show more content on

As a result, this situation of Hebrew becoming the national language has created a linguistic and social
dominance across all domains. This superstratum of Hebrew in Israel can be seen in most of the
domains such as governmental departments and institutions, advertisements, the media, court
procedures and education.
This linguistic reality, has added to the negative social attitudes towards the Arabic minority, the
economic status of a minority language is likely to be a key element in language vitality. Palestinians
in Israel, who constitute an indigenous and national minority, are considered a minority of low socio
economic status (Smooha, 2005) this in return has created hegemony amongst the majority towards
the Arab minority in the state of Israel (unit glossary)
Furthermore, this linguistic reality, has enforced endogamy, where Arab Israelis, have to create state of
affairs to maintain and develop the Arabic language by encouraging community activities such,
literature events such as poetry, readings, and other literature competitions, further attention to
elementary and secondary school in their towns and villages, and continuous discussions and debates
regarding the Arabic language policy to further improve and relinquish its status..
The social reality mentioned above has contributed towards the negative economic, social and
political status, which in return, has further marginalized and

Essay On Tactic Recycled
To be a good naval officer or military member, one must learn from the success and failure of those
around them. During the American Civil war, the Confederate navy attempted to adopt the same
strategies previously used by US Naval forces in the revolutionary war and was a failure due to their
inability to recognize economic, and strategical changes.
Tactics Recycled
The similarities between the United States, during the revolution, and the Confederacy uprising are
surprisingly abundant. During the start of the Revolutionary war in 1776, the state of the colonies was
not very structured. Among a fractured government and a nonexistent military, the newly founded
country faced issues getting the amount of funding that is needed for a war. Though ... Show more

At the start of the war, if the confederacy had been its own country, it would have been considered the
4th wealthiest country (Bateman Weiss). Though they were considered wealthy, most of the funds had
been put into slavery and agriculture so when the time came to purchase supplies from a foreign ally,
they began to go into debt. By purchasing gunboats, frigates and other supplies from the British, the
South quickly began to use up its liquid wealth. Without the wealth to pay sailors, more men began
commerce raiding thus reducing the already low amount of men the south had to fight. Now that
wealth was an issue, the strategy of privateering and commerce raiding began to have negative effects.
Though the commerce raiding was successful, the act also caused significant losses to navy personnel
and overall ability. The Confederacy was forced to use more shallow water tactics in efforts to draw
the Union Navy into fire from forts on land. Due to the Confederacy s inability to notice how the
Colonial Navy used low funds and succeed, the Southern state was unsuccessful in the war of

Supply And Demand of Gasoline Essay
Supply and Demand: Gasoline
I am a husband and a father of four lovely children. We need a large vehicle to haul all of us around
town. And of course I would do anything to keep them safe and I always want to provide them with
the best. Therefore, after the birth of our fourth child two and a half years ago, my wife and I decided
to upgrade our Ford Explorer to a Ford Expedition. We got everything from the side curtain airbags to
the TV and DVD player. What we did not know was we also purchased a rather large unleaded gas
bill. The first time we filled the tank it cost us roughly $35; today it costs us right around $75 to fill
the tank. Obviously the price of gas has increased significantly in the last two years. The price ...

Norway is the third largest exporter of crude oil. Three separate strikes over a five month period
severely influenced production. The supply of gasoline to various regions of the United States also
plays a significant role. The country is divided into five different regions: Gulf Coast, East Coast,
Midwest, Rocky Mountain, and West Coast. Some of these areas do not have enough refineries in
their own region to support the consumption and therefore need it brought in. For example, the West
Coast has very limited pipeline connections from the other regions. It must rely on water shipments
and its small amount of refiners for its supply. If something should happen to the water shipments, i.e.
a hurricane, tsunami, etc. it would greatly effect the supply of gasoline. The demand of gasoline has
increased steadily over the last twenty years. In 1981 the U.S. averaged 6.5 million barrels of gasoline
consumption per day. By comparison, in 2004 the U.S. averaged 9.2 million barrels of gasoline
consumption per day. For most of this time period, gas prices stayed relatively the same. This is
because the U.S. refineries increased their production to meet the demand and maintain the
equilibrium price. Also during this same time period worldwide demand for crude oil increased 27%.
Crude oil producers also increased their production to meet the demand keeping prices the same. The
price of gasoline is affected by many

Threats To The Mongol Empire
Communication is vital when you are control of a large area. The Mongols didn t have modern
technology to keep up on things going on in different parts of the Mongol Empire, so they had to
come up with alternative ways to keep in constant contact. If the United States Government didn t
have contact with their citizens and other government officials, there would be complete chaos.
Without communication, you would have no idea what has happened in different parts of the world. If
there was ever a threat to the U.S., there would be no other way to get vital information then to send
someone to transfer information to different parts of the countries. That is actually what Genghis Khan
did. He sent horses and people to transfer information

Morality Is Acceptable By Your Standards Or Not
MORALITY DOES NOT HAVE ONE FLAVOR Human beings are very complicated creatures. I m
not talking about the shape, I m referring to the feelings they, have and the technique of their thinking.
Each human has his or her own believes and theory, so sometimes people argue about reality and
fiction or right and wrong. As humans we do have characteristics such as chivalry, honesty, and
trustworthy. Among the feelings and the characteristics comes morality, it is the knowledge of
knowing the right and the wrong and distinguish between them but we cannot say that morality have
one flavor because some people have a different perspective from others. Through my experience and
our religion lessons, anything that makes us behave like an animal is forbidden.
As a reader you have to understand the author s morality through his or her writing so you can
determine if the writer s morality is acceptable by your standards or not. Raymond Carver is an
amazing writer although I did not read all of his works, but he always leave the writer hanging at the
end not knowing what is happening except for the actions which is a sad thing, also the way he writes
about the ending is complicated because the goal of the story lays at the end of it. Unknowing what is
the end precisely makes the reader in a huge circle of wondering and of course cannot determine the
morality of the story, which is the writer s morality at the first place.

The Civil Argument Of Epistemology
For decades, there has been an open deliberation over whether knowledge is intrinsic or if it springs
itself from life experiences: the civil argument of epistemology. Epistemology is the investigation of
knowledge and its techniques and legitimacy. Individuals from philosophers to scientists to
psychologists have argued their perspectives, yet even today the contention is not yet settled.
Personally, I believe that it bodes well for knowledge to originate from experiences. Three
philosophers that are solid proponents for the belief that knowledge is derived from experiences are
Gaston Bachelard, Immanuel Kant, and John Locke. One of the great epistemologists was Gaston
Bachelard who was more commonly known as a philosopher of science. ... Show more content on

Kant concurred with empiricists that concepts without perceptions are empty (lonestar). He
acknowledged that concepts and ideas cannot constitute knowledge alone and that innate ideas do not
constitute knowledge at all. This brought about his conviction that there must be experience(s) in life
for there to be knowledge. His theory was that there are two sorts of reasoning to acquire knowledge:
posteriori reasoning and priori reasoning. The posteriori reasoning depends upon experience in the
world that provides us with information. For example, if I said that Barack Obama was the president
of the United States in 2010, I would only know that this is true through experience; I would not be
able to determine this through an analysis of the concepts of president or Barack Obama. In contrast, a
priori reasoning does not rely on experience to inform it, but to create the knowledge. Kant believed
that with priori reasoning, the dynamic mind relates and understands experiences in terms of causes
and effects where an event takes place and causes an experience to happen with the effect of
knowledge being gained. Kant s crucial insight here is to argue that experience of a world as we have
it is only conceivable if the psyche provides an efficient organizing of its representations; the mind
makes deductions prior to experiences, but can only truly experience something in the event that it
obtains knowledge from the

Walt Disney s Influence On The Entertainment Industry
Walt Disney was a very influential man to the entertainment industry. He made animation a whole
new type of entertainment. Although Walt went through many struggles and problems, he pushed on
and eventually saw results for all his hard work. Many hardships got in Disney s way such as
unsupportive parents and even bankruptcy; Walt pushed on through, always creating, working hard,
and persevering to accomplish his dream. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in
Chicago, Illinois. His father, Elias, was a carpenter when Walt was born. Eventually, Elias and his
wife, Flora, saved up enough money to start a home building company together. Walter had four
siblings: Roy, Herbert, Raymond, and Ruth (Russell 9). Because Ruth was younger than Walt, Walt
waited until the age of seven to start school so that he could start at the same time as Ruth. Before he
went to school, his mother, Flora, taught him how to read (Russell 10). Walt grew up on the Disney
family farm and worked hard on the farm. He worked at the neighbor s farm raising corn, wheat,
barley, cows, pigs, and chickens (Giltin 18). Later, Elias grew sick, and the Disney s had to sell the
farm. They moved to Kansas City (Russell 11). Throughout Walter s schooling, he loved to be on
stage directing, producing, and being on stage (Russell 11). Many things inspired Walt Disney s
creativity: moving, roaming, playing in the farmyard, fishing, doodling in class, and editing the school

Proposed Topic
The purpose research is to outline the importance of information literacy and recommendations for the
future. Specifically, it argues for the importance of Information Literacy to individuals, business, and
citizenship. It suggests opportunities to develop information literacy which addresses the information
age in school.
Information Literacy and Leadership Information literacy in individuals lives has traditionally valued
quality of life and the pursuit of happiness; however, these goals are increasingly difficult to achieve

search for knowledge. It not only prepares them for lifelong learning; but, by experiencing the
excitement of their own successful quests for knowledge, it also creates in young people the
motivation for pursuing learning throughout their lives. For example, businesses and individuals need
to have opportunities to have up to date technology. Lupton (2007) describes the main reasons for the
rise and importance of information literacy which include:
The increasingly widespread introduction of student centered inquiry based pedagogies, the explosion
of information available to teachers and students and the move to electronic sources of information ...
[and] the identification of information literacy as a generic skill and graduate attribute (p. 400).
The findings of the present study indicate that information literacy incorporates both generic and
situated aspects; that is, those aspects that are universal, and those that are contextual.
When the present study is compared with previous studies, it might be concluded that varying
treatment of evidence and argument could be considered as generic, as these aspects were present in
the other studies. The study is designed for teachers, students, and librarians, academic skills advisers
and academic developers in higher education (Lupton, par 1, 2001). However, the findings of the

Activity Series Of Metals
The purpose of this lab was to analyze the reaction between various metals and ionic compounds to
test if they follow the Activity Series of metals. For the most part, our hypothesis was that when
metals and ionic compounds (sulphates) were combined, they will react according to the Activity
Series of metals. In our experiment we hypothesized that when magnesium metal and copper sulphate
combines, it will produce an aqueous solution of magnesium sulphate and copper metal. When zinc
metal and iron sulphate are combined, an aqueous solution of zinc sulphate and iron metal is
produced. When iron and tin chloride are combined, iron chloride and tin are formed. When tin is

change the amount of solution that were placed on the metals by adding more drops of the solution to

sure that the amount of metals and solutions are always controlled since we only made vague or
approximate units to measure such as drops or pieces to describe how much material we put in. We
would also clean off the tweezers after getting a new piece of metal to avoid contamination or just
drop the metal instead of placing it using tweezers in other experiments with other

America s Impact On The Planet Essay
As a species that continues to evolve and expand on this planet, humans have made many lasting
impacts to their home. Some of these changes often go generally unnoticed, such as the shift in
popular music, or fashion trends. Even transitions from job to job, or relocating to a new city seem to
weigh lightly on the general public. However, unbeknownst to us, we as a species have a far greater
impact on this planet than we would like to admit. Throughout our day to day lives we tend to
unknowingly impact and mold or future. It can be something as simple as forgetting to recycle that jug
of milk, or neglecting to clean up a spill after a self done oil change. Even the foods we eat and the
way we manufacture them have a lasting effect on the planet. Perhaps one of the more noticeable ways
we as a society affect the Earth though is how we build upon it. With much of the global population
centralized in urban areas, and there continued growth. It is interesting to observe the way in which
this urbanized land reacts to human interference. One of the more interesting aspects of urbanization is
the use and management of water. With the continued expansion of cities, and the modification of the
land in which these concrete jungles cover, changes to land are inevitable. In his book Urban Storm
Water Management, Hormoz Pazwash briefly summarizes some of the impacts urbanization has to
land, and water quality stating. Urban development alters the natural process of storm water runoff.

Intersectionality In Feminist Theory
Introduction:
This thesis will examine how different intersects of inequality shape an individual s involvement in
crime. More specifically this thesis will seek to identify differences between violent male and female
offenders, as well as seeking explanation for what a typical violent female offender looks like. An
intersectional approach adopted from feminist theory will be used to analyze and seek explanations to
these questions. (elaborate more/reword?)
The roots of intersectionality belong in feminist theory. The term was given credibility developed this
approach to incorporate the lives of black women into feminist theory (cite). (maybe expand on what
intersectionality is here) Since this development, feminist scholars, including criminologist, have been
using this approach to expand on how different systems of inequality effect females, specifically in
criminality (cite? Reword?). Maybe .... Explain in the next paragraph why intersectionality is
important to criminology and understanding the differences between male and female criminality.
Criminologist have begun to use intersectional frameworks to look at crime. What many have found is
that race, class, and gender all play an important role in the pathways people take to criminal activity
(cite). (need to discuss somewhere in the intro how this will add to our knowledge of the issue)
Lit Review:

o Social constructions of offenders?
Many individuals have preconceived notions of what a criminal is like based on the crime that was
committed. For instance, individuals may perceive a white collar crime to be committed by a wealthy
white male, while a poor black male would be perceived to commit a violent street crime. While
women may be perceived to be more likely to take part in petty crime or drug crimes, with race being
a mitigating factor of the severity of their criminal activity. These different views are considered social
constructs of what offenders are like and bring attention to why it is important to look at race, gender,
and class regarding crime. Different arguments have been made about how Individuals who participate
in these social constructs when engaging criminal

In Arthur Miller s essay Tragedy and the Common Man , a picture is painted of a flaw full man,
known as the modern hero of tragedies. Miller describes what characteristics the modern tragic hero
possesses and how he differs from the heroes depicted by classic Greek playwrights such as Sophocles
and Aristotle. In order to understand how drastically the modern hero has evolved, one must first
understand the basic characteristics that the heroes created by Sophocles and Aristotle encompass. The
Greek tragic heroes, otherwise known as the protagonists, illustrated by tragic Greek playwrights,
were never normal people. All heroes were citizens of high class, such as princes. This was due in part
because plays were seen as a luxury for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Willy is a man whose underlying fear of being displaced has created such a powerful unwillingness to
be submissive to his perception of his loss of dignity, that he believes only death itself will secure him
everlasting admiration. In order to fully appreciate how Willy believes that death will bring him the
dignity that he so desperately craves one must first look at the scene in Death of a Salesman , during
which Willy visits his boss Howard. During his visit Willy tells Howard about an elderly salesman he
met named Dave Singleman and how meeting Dave made Willy realize that selling was the greatest
career a man could want. (Miller 1801) When he died and he died the death of a salesman , Willy tells
Howard, hundreds of salesmen and buyers were at his funeral...In those days there was personality in
it, Howard. There was respect, and comradeship, and gratitude in it (Miller 1801). This quote
demonstrates how Willy believed death would bring him the respect, comradeship, and gratitude that
he never had in life.
As stated in the essay, Arthur Miller describes the modern hero as someone who possesses an
unwillingness to remain passive in the face of what he conceives to be a challenge to his dignity, his
image of his rightful. Examples of this can be seen on pages 1809 through 1810 of the play. This is the
scene where Willy goes to his friend Charley to ask for money in order to

nonetheless report that once they control for these characteristics, they still find a significant decline in
the residual propensity to pay dividends. This evidence poses a further challenge to dividend theories
in so far as candidate theories should be able to explain time series changes in the propensity to pay
dividends. We extend this literature by examining cross sectional and time series evidence on the
propensity to pay dividends in several developed financial markets the United States (U.S.), Canada,
the United Kingdom (U.K.), Germany, France, and Japan over the period 1989 to 2002. Specifically,
we examine (i) whether the characteristics of dividend payers and nonpayers are common across
countries; (ii) whether these characteristics have changed over time; and (iii) whether firms in other
countries exhibit a declining propensity to pay dividends in recent years. In addition, the use of
international data allows us to provide further tests of the life cycle, signaling, clientele, and catering
explanations by analyzing the concentration of dividend payments as well as the association between
Baker and Wurgler s (2004a,b) dividend premium and the propensity to pay dividends in other
countries. Our evidence reveals common determinants of dividends across countries. Like Fama and

Deirdre Sullivan Always Go To The Funeral Analysis
Students who are enrolled in Dual Credit English 1301 are expected to write suitable essays.
Unfortunately, students struggle to understand what a good essay consists of. After doing research and

Always Go to the Funeral by Deirdre Sullivan. Sullivan s use of rhetorical devices such as, anecdote,
diction, and pathos, make the article an effective essay that students can analyze and use as an
example to follow.
Sullivan s essay includes many rhetorical devices; the first one that stands out is the anecdote device
because of the experience that she went through. She uses her personal life as a short story to catch the
reader s attention. This is an example of a great device that can be used for all essays, because every
paper needs a hook that will keep the reader interested from the moment they start reading. Although,
sometimes it is difficult for dual credit students to find something that can catch a reader s attention,
this essay can make it less difficult to understand. Another thing that can help the students is the

Word Learning And Language Of The World s Different...
Words are the essential part of communication in all of the world s different languages. Most adults
understand thousands of words, and the majority of people master a vast vocabulary of words. Word
learning and language are perhaps two of the more complex developmental achievements in human
evolution, they stand out because of the conceptual and linguistic organization (Waxman, Lidz, 2006).
This complex process has been very well studied in human infants and literature about this topic is
abundant. Infants gather words and phrases from the human language to which they are exposed to
and make important advances in areas such as conceptual and linguistic domains. Furthermore, infants
learn words with extraordinarily speed; this gathering of words is so fast that some researchers argue
that there must be specialized mechanisms that deal with word learning (Gleitman, L. R., Cassidy, K.,
Nappa, R., Papafragou, A., Trueswell, J. C. 2005). These specialized mechanisms for word learning
are associated with fast mapping, which means that a word meaning is deduced from very few
exposures to that specific word. The ability of children to fast map is regarded as proof of the
astonishing efficiency of early word learning (Dollaghan, C. A. 1987). There is certainly great
knowledge about word learning in human infants; however, this subject has not been studied
extensively in animals. One of the few researches in this topic suggests that a dog also have the ability
to learn words

solar heating device that turns aluminum and other materials into hot air, which can be used to help
the homeless population, lower heating bills as well as help the environment. We heard from a student
who started a tech app and a mother student who had his own DJ business called Andries
Entertainments. There was also a student who started her own photograph business as well as a few
non profit businesses. All of these students had great advice about how to start a company, how to
keep it going, how to enjoy what you are doing. All of these students had one thing in common when
it came to there business. They all found that there was a need for their product or service and they

following what your parents did. You are taught based on what your parents tell you, and your parents
are taught on what their parents tell them. Then slowly it starts growing into our cultural identity over
the multiple generations. As you probably know, there is a big age gap between your parents and your
self. In the nowadays generation, the way we talk is considered to be rude to someone that is a lot
older like In there 60 70. People from the older generation had specific ways a sentence was said.
Another thing that shows a big generation gap is the music. Music has changed a lot from the 1900 s,
now having these famous Rappers like 21 Savage, Nav, Lil Uzi Vert. If a person from an older
generation listens to this type of music they will most likely go crazy, because of the laughing they
use. Not just music but also technology, the way technology is used has changed a lot from the last
century, for example, the New iPhone X and the new MacBooks that are coming out with high tech
face scanners. This makes the older generation more closed minded to different ideas and viewpoints.

Objectives And Objectives Of An Organization
As I ve explained in my previous article, the stakeholders in an organisation are its customers,
employers, employees, government, owners and suppliers amongst others. The stakeholder can be a
person, group or even an organisation that has an influence in a company. Stakeholders are different
from others as they can have a different type of influence on a business. Every business has aims and
objectives. An aim is a more broad term and is what the business would like to achieve in the long
term, where as an objective is more of a short term thorough approach on how to achieve the long
term aim. Detailed objectives are known as SMART objectives, this is a mnemonic acronym,
providing criteria to guide when setting objectives. These objectives go as follows: * Specific Means
that the objective the business would like to achieve is precise and clearly stated. * Measurable The
outcome the firm would like to achieve is a numeric value that can be measured. * Achievable The
objective should be possible by the organisation. * Realistic The target is what results can realistically
be achieved, given available resources. * Time The objective will be met within a given period of
time. Most businesses have general aims which they can break down into detailed objectives. By
arranging aims and objectives; firms give themselves a sense of direction and purpose. With a general

economies. Capitalism is a way of organizing an economy so that the things that are used to make and
transport products are owned by individual people and companies rather than by the government
(Merriam Webster). Socialism is a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned
and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies (Merriam Webster).

In the state lead economy, the government owns the means of production, but the organization is ran
by capitalists methods. Capitalism promotes competition in the economy which has positive
outcomes. Competition generates higher quality products and more effective techniques in businesses.
Competition is the only reason the government plays a role in capitalism, and that role is protection
from fraud and force. The only purpose of government would be to protect its citizens from force or
fraud (Reisman, George).
Socialism is considered the weak; less effective form of economy. By failing to emphasize incentives,
socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail (Mark Perry,
1995). It is the type of organization that involves the government owning and controlling the major
industries and prosperous companies in the country. The fact that socialism disregards private property
rights in establishing incentives for economic development and growth is another reason why
socialism fails. Socialism robs citizens of their human rights to private property, but it does grant the
right to an education, to work, and free health care and transportation. Unlike capitalism that is based
on supply and demand, in a socialist economy, the government regulates the quantity of products
produced and distributed. The government also

Comparing Two Different Styles. Two Stories. Both Of Which
Comparing Two Different Styles Two stories. Both of which were written on the grounds of the
controversial subject of abortion. Two stories. There is nearly an eighty year difference in publish
dates. T. Coraghessan Boyle s story The Love of My Life and Ernest Hemingway s story Hills like
White Elephants are both short stories about abortion. However, the stylistic techniques that both
writers exhibit are entirely different. These two well known authors both write entirely different from
each other; moreover, some of the writing choices made would strike a disagreement between Boyle
and Hemingway. Therefore, this begs the question: if Boyle were to revise Hemingway s story, what
would he modify? If this were to happen, Boyle would mainly ... Show more content on

On the contrary, Hemingway s short story does not establish a presence of Pathos. Hemingway does
very little in describing Jig and the American and both of their backgrounds. In fact, there is no textual
evidence regarding anything about these two characters. In Boyle s story, however, there is an ample
amount of background information supplied; this accomplishes the task of getting readers to
empathize for the characters which drives Pathos home to the heart. For example, when Boyle
expounds upon the future endeavors of the couple, he builds a relationship with the characters and the
readers; He d been accepted at Brown... ...own G.P.A. would put him in the top ten percent of their
graduating class. (para 13) Boyle further explains how China and Jeremy are both gifted students; he
also insinuates that they will go off and do remarkable things. Of course, this never happens.
However, the reader s want of success for the couple is present. This paves way for an emotional
connection. So, if Boyle were to revise Hemingway s short story, Boyle would expound upon Jig s and
the American s lives which would lead to an intimate connection between the two and the readers.
This would establish a sense of Pathos and empathy while explaining the characters more definitely.
Boyle and Hemingway s stories both a couple and a problem. Although the problem is universal, the
infrastructure of the problem differs. The infrastructure is primarily controlled by

Being A Twin Research Paper
Being a twin has been nothing short of ordinary. I have never been treated as normal. The first
question I get asked when I meet people is always about being a twin. Oh you are a twin? Have you
ever switched classes with one another? How is it like being a twin? are just some of the questions I
am barraged with. While the questions may not seem harmful, to me they are extremely annoying and
almost insulting. It shows that they do not care about who I am, but rather who we are. It is a painful
realisation to know that some of the people who I know are only my friend because I am a twin. It isn
t just my social life that has taken the toll, but also my academic career. Throughout my schooling I

Asch Conformity Study
1. Identify the study (video) you selected.
The study and video I selected was the ASCH Conformity Experiments video. I was drawn to the
ASCH experiment because I am interested in social behavior. The ASCH conformity experiments was
simple, but there is nothing wrong with a minimalistic approach. I think it s interesting to know that a
simplistic approach to an experiment may yield astounding data.
2. Describe what this study demonstrated about human behavior and mental processes using the
results of the study along with information you have learned in Units 1 3.

Genes and DNA are part of the nature concept. Nurture shapes us differently than Nature because
nurture deals with our environments. I believe the things we experience outside the home molds us
heavily during the teen periods of devolvement. The ASCH experiment zeros in on nurture influence.
The ASCH experiment subjects were all placed in a room without knowing each other. The ASCH
experiment took place in the physical realm. Influence and conformity may both come from nature
and nurture, but in ASCH experiment video nurture stood out to me.
4. In your own words, describe social observational learning. Is it demonstrated in the study you
selected? Why or why not? Explain your reasoning using reference to the study.
Social observation learning is when a person learns by observing others. Social observation learning
was demonstrated in the ASCH experiment video. Social observation plays a role in the ASCH
experiment in the sense that the subjects neglected their own thought process to avoid judgment. The
subjects sat next to each other, moreover, each male subject observed each other s reactions and
tension due to their togetherness.

Ocean Township, New Jersey
My home town is Ocean Township, New Jersey. It is located in eastern central Monmouth County. It
is 11.1 square miles. It is made up of several different subsections named Wayside, Wanamassa,
Colonial Terrace, West Allenhurst, West Deal, Oakhurst, Shadowlawn Manor, Elberon Park and

The French and Indian war had Colonies drained of resources, money and even men. As a result of
that war, the British Empire heavily taxed the people. However, the Colonies they had no input on the
taxes, no taxation without representation . That resulted in the rise of the clash of British Rule versus
the new colony rule which brought about the American Revolution. New Jersey was a major
contribution towards the war for numerous reasons. While the British controlled the Sandy Hook
military post, many battles and scrimishes had been fought here on New Jersey soil including Ocean
Township. I saw a reoccurring tale of Colonial residents building ships in Deal Lake while battling the
British. During this time actually up the road from where I had grown up, was the cove they refer to as
where the ship building was done. The story goes that as a ship was being crafted with purpose of
intercepting British Supply ships entering the Sandy Hook areas. As the ship was being made British
Troops had received a tip by a local Loyalist whom told them of the location. While they ship makers
heard they have been spotted they quickly acted, and began to sink the ship before the British arrived.
It was then when they attacked the British and resurfacing the boat and destroying the British ship,

Mental Health Issues For Asylum Seekers
The issue of asylum seekers recently was reignited, with the dramatic increase in the number of illegal
boats arriving in Australia. From the 30th of September 2013, there were a reported 6,403 people in
closed detention, this number including 1,078 children. It is not surprising from these high detention
rates and poor living standards that between January 2011 and February 2013 that there were 4,313
reported incidents of actual, threatened or attempted serious self harm in these immigration detention
facilities. From 12 deaths that occurred between the 1st of July 2010 and the 20th of June 2013 6 of
these have been found by coroners to be suicides (Triggs, 2013). These statistics are incredibly
alarming, especially when not much action is being taken to prevent not only mental illness but also
the consequences of prolonged mental illness suicide. The purpose of this report is to analyse and
scrutinize the reason why mental health issues for asylum seekers are becoming an issue in Australia,
and find out what exactly is being done to combat this ever growing issue in Australia.
An asylum seeker is a person who has fled their own country and applied for protection as a refugee.
As an asylum seeker their experience is extremely different to that of a Migrant. A Migrant chooses to
leave their home country, and can choose where to go and when they might return to their home
country, whereas, an asylum seeker or refugee are forced to flee their country for their own safety,

Satrapi s Dichotomy
Orientalism, is a school of thought based entirely the exploitation of cultural differences between
western and eastern peoples, Satrapi illustrates this strict dichotomy and the distress these differences
caused her growing up as they call into question her very cultural identity. Orientalism is more
complex than political or economic imperialism, Said articulates the peculiar relationship between
Orient and Occident as such, ...the Orient has helped to define Europe (or the West) as its contrasting
image, idea, personality, experience (2 Said). Both gain meaning from opposing the other, any form of
syncretism threatens the culture of both. Satrapi reflects on how this strict segregation of what is

Whereas F. Reza, Dr. Fatemi, and H. Ashraf are only briefly introduced to the reader, Marx appears
throughout the novel and it is western ideas that most inspire her (12 13 Satrapi). In fact, Satrapi
compares Marx and God on page 13 panel 3 and comes to the conclusion that they are not so different
(13 Satrapi). This is the closest Satrapi ever comes to coexisting with both western and eastern culture
simultaneously. Most of the time she is constantly divided, as seen on page 6 panel 1, feeling as
though she must pick between modernity and European culture, or tradition and Iranian culture (6
Satrapi). The problem is that she cannot see her Iranian culture as compatible with modern science or
philosophy, she regards her own culture as a vestige of history. In Satrapi s early years, both Occident

polarities to coexist for long. The equilibrium depicted in the panel as she is evenly divided between

Persuasive Speech On Modern Life
We must be diligent today. To wait until tomorrow is too late. Death comes unexpectedly. How can we
bargain with it? Buddha. Wow, that is both incredibly heavy and extremely motivating. Although most
interpret this to be motivation for someone to follow their most outrageous and elaborate dream I find
it to be a wee bit more reprimanding. To me it is a verse full of chagrin for those who continue to put
off the things they needed to do a week ago. To me it is a command to stop with all the wispy and
foolish excuses in favor of starting towards a better, less stressful, tomorrow! Most, namely myself,
refuse to heed this call; opting instead for a life of half lived relaxation followed by hectic bursts of
tears turmoil and stress; it s a life lived down to the wire, a life on the edge, a life run by the fact that
you are perpetually behind schedule.
As terribly exciting as that may sound this constant wave of slow mo into overdrive is taxing and, as
one might expect, not conducive to a worker with top quality output. Even though its common
knowledge that procrastinating has never been the best route to take somehow as we go through life it
is in fact the path most travelled. So, if it s so bad for us why do we continue to do it? How does our
procrastination affect us? How does it affect others? Most importantly how do we fix this seemingly

Feminism Is A Conflict Theory
In this essay it will assess to what extent feminism has added to our understanding of society.
Firstly, Feminism is a conflict theory that believes that all religions are instruments set up by men to
oppress women with the set of beliefs and practices. There are many different branches of feminism;
the ones being evaluated are called Liberal, Radical and Marxist feminists. Feminists believe that
society is malestream and not mainstream as people believe. The first main flaw in feminist theory is
the fact that feminists only examine society from the viewpoint of women, they do this because they
believe they are in fact helping fight against the oppression of women but the problem is that they do
not examine the views of many male counterparts and therefore cannot help us completely understand
our society. The main differentiation between the different feminist theories is the way that the
oppression against women is caused. Firstly, Liberal feminist are focused on human and civil rights
and freedom of individuals, to summarise, they believe that all humans should have equal rights
within their society. They believe that society changing itself to help women does not happen. Liberal
feminists believe the status of women changing can become a reality if laws that are oppressing for
women change because it would create more opportunities for women to prove that they are equal to
men. Oakley explains a difference between sex and gender. Oakley believes sex differences are set

students to remain calm to correct their behavior. Students are aware of the classroom expectations
and the proper behavior when they are working with other students. When the class is transitoning

Theodore Roosevelt Contributions
Theodore Roosevelt spent his life trying to preserve the natural land and resources of the United
States, while promoting other countries to do so too. While president, he expanded the power of the
government to preserve land and create National Parks in order to promote a healthy use of the land
and allow all people in America to enjoy what the outdoors have to offer. Theodore Roosevelt
believed that the land was being over exploited by companies and land grabbers, therefore, he wanted
to protect the land, but wanted the land to still be used in a way that was healthy for the environment
and would benefit the greatest number of people.
Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1858 and is the second oldest child in the family
(The Life of Theodore Roosevelt). He loved to be in nature and enjoyed reading books, therefore, he
decided to combine both loves and studied nature (The Life of Theodore Roosevelt). As a child, he
gathered a collection of dead animals in order to preserve and study them then created The Roosevelt
Museum, a museum held in his room and keep an inaccurate description of what he found or of what
he saw in the marketplace (Roosevelt). Theodore Roosevelt suffered from severe asthma and would
have constant asthma attacks, but his father still pushed him to be physically and mentally strong this
is what made Roosevelt what he would become (The Life of Theodore Roosevelt). Once he turned 18
he was accepted into Harvard planning on teaching history,

The stability of biodiversity over millions of years of evolution has been one of the most persistent
puzzles of ecology and evolution (Hutchinson, 1961). Different species had evolved from their
ancestral and were not created in their present forms (Darwin, 1859).

Mutation is a change in the nucleotide sequence of an organism s DNA thus forming new alleles. Even
it involves only change in a single base, whether it be insertion, deletion or substitution the effects are
significant. The severity of the frame shift depends on how far down the DNA base sequence the
mutation occurs (Crick, 1961). It gives rise to the changes in genotype and therefore different
phenotype will be expressed. Sometimes mutations can occur in noncoding proteins region and bring
no effect to the phenotypic characteristic. This is known as neutral variation. Mutation is a random and
spontaneous process during DNA duplication. The formation of a harmful protein may be
disadvantageous to the organism. Selection pressure will remove these alleles and it will not be passed
on the next generations. On rare occasion, a mutant allele brings advantage to the bearer by making it
better adapted to the environment thus increasing the reproductive success. For example, Patagona
gigas living in Andean Highlands, an oxygen poor region in South Africa which is 16,000 feet above
sea level, experienced identical mutation independently and not by interbreeding. The mutation
change their haemoglobin gene make it easier for oxygen to bind (Projecto Garcia, 2013). Hence high
altitude hummingbirds have adaptive oxygen binding traits to live in higher elevation zone.

Cyrano De Bergerac Conformity
You are too simple. Why, you might have said Oh a great many things! Mon dieu why waste Your

known as the invincible hero who always conforms to, but there is more than what meets the eye, but
in this case, the nose. Other supporting characters such as Christian, Roxanne, and De Guiche, have
different self esteem levels which leaves hints about conformity. Standards created by society are
pushing conformity by using the insecurity of others; while others are conforming, individualism is

for an immunohistochemistry experiment. This was my first time using the molarity formula in real
life. When I first learned this formula, it had little significance because I never had to use it. That was
the way most things were to me regarding science; I was bombarded with formulas and equations to
memorize with no intention of actually using them. While I was told that I was good at chemistry and
was able to work hard and do well in the class, it was not until I sat in a real medical research
laboratory that my passion for chemistry began. It was quite the adjustment for me; the answers to my
questions could not be found in a book. I soon realized that memorizing formulas would not suffice; I
needed a way to visualize intricate ideas on the subatomic level. But this is what made me love the
experience the challenge. Everything we did used chemistry concepts but took it a step further. The
goal was not to get the right answer; with each step we were closer to a solution for patients struggling
with cancer. This topic hit home to me because it felt as though I was personally leave a touch on lives
of each person I knew who the disease had affected. Through working for a purpose greater than just
myself, I found a new love for chemistry.
Chemistry is a very challenging field of study and would provide the obstacles needed for me to grow

This strategic power move targets a country s population. Social sanctions, such as banning popular
American and European websites (Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) can impede the progress of a
nation s citizens causing them to be years behind the rest of the world. Another example of social
sanctions is prohibiting a country from international competition, such as the World Cup or the
Olympics, similar to the occurrence in South Africa when it was bared from the Olympics and World
Cup due to their racist apartheid regime. These sanctions can technologically deprive a nation of most
developments. If a nation is technologically deprived, it cannot compete with other countries due to
lack of sufficient knowledge. It also keeps its citizens enclosed in a theoretical bubble, disconnecting
them from the rest of the world. This is problematic for Burma s government, a nation cannot advance

players aren t supposed to be playing this game anyways. There is a reason these games are labeled

But the child won t be charged with a crime.

  • 2. Sociolinguistics and Development of Israel’s Arab Minority The objective of this report is to give a concise study regarding the Arab minority in Israel. It will trace some significant issues that have impacted the overall linguistic reality, nevertheless the marginalization of Arabs in that small but complex country. It will track the language policy adopted in that country, the educational, political, practical, social, ideological reasons that have lead to the Arabic status in Israel. Spolsky and shohamy(1999a:41)suggest an obvious difference among three things, language practices language ideology and language policy. Language practices are the actual use of linguistic repertoire, that is, the options among language varieties and languages accessible to a society. Language ideology is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, this situation of Hebrew becoming the national language has created a linguistic and social dominance across all domains. This superstratum of Hebrew in Israel can be seen in most of the domains such as governmental departments and institutions, advertisements, the media, court procedures and education. This linguistic reality, has added to the negative social attitudes towards the Arabic minority, the economic status of a minority language is likely to be a key element in language vitality. Palestinians in Israel, who constitute an indigenous and national minority, are considered a minority of low socio economic status (Smooha, 2005) this in return has created hegemony amongst the majority towards the Arab minority in the state of Israel (unit glossary) Furthermore, this linguistic reality, has enforced endogamy, where Arab Israelis, have to create state of affairs to maintain and develop the Arabic language by encouraging community activities such, literature events such as poetry, readings, and other literature competitions, further attention to elementary and secondary school in their towns and villages, and continuous discussions and debates regarding the Arabic language policy to further improve and relinquish its status.. • 3. Essay On Tactic Recycled To be a good naval officer or military member, one must learn from the success and failure of those around them. During the American Civil war, the Confederate navy attempted to adopt the same strategies previously used by US Naval forces in the revolutionary war and was a failure due to their inability to recognize economic, and strategical changes. Tactics Recycled The similarities between the United States, during the revolution, and the Confederacy uprising are surprisingly abundant. During the start of the Revolutionary war in 1776, the state of the colonies was not very structured. Among a fractured government and a nonexistent military, the newly founded country faced issues getting the amount of funding that is needed for a war. Though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the start of the war, if the confederacy had been its own country, it would have been considered the 4th wealthiest country (Bateman Weiss). Though they were considered wealthy, most of the funds had been put into slavery and agriculture so when the time came to purchase supplies from a foreign ally, they began to go into debt. By purchasing gunboats, frigates and other supplies from the British, the South quickly began to use up its liquid wealth. Without the wealth to pay sailors, more men began commerce raiding thus reducing the already low amount of men the south had to fight. Now that wealth was an issue, the strategy of privateering and commerce raiding began to have negative effects. Though the commerce raiding was successful, the act also caused significant losses to navy personnel and overall ability. The Confederacy was forced to use more shallow water tactics in efforts to draw the Union Navy into fire from forts on land. Due to the Confederacy s inability to notice how the Colonial Navy used low funds and succeed, the Southern state was unsuccessful in the war of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Supply And Demand of Gasoline Essay Supply and Demand: Gasoline I am a husband and a father of four lovely children. We need a large vehicle to haul all of us around town. And of course I would do anything to keep them safe and I always want to provide them with the best. Therefore, after the birth of our fourth child two and a half years ago, my wife and I decided to upgrade our Ford Explorer to a Ford Expedition. We got everything from the side curtain airbags to the TV and DVD player. What we did not know was we also purchased a rather large unleaded gas bill. The first time we filled the tank it cost us roughly $35; today it costs us right around $75 to fill the tank. Obviously the price of gas has increased significantly in the last two years. The price ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Norway is the third largest exporter of crude oil. Three separate strikes over a five month period severely influenced production. The supply of gasoline to various regions of the United States also plays a significant role. The country is divided into five different regions: Gulf Coast, East Coast, Midwest, Rocky Mountain, and West Coast. Some of these areas do not have enough refineries in their own region to support the consumption and therefore need it brought in. For example, the West Coast has very limited pipeline connections from the other regions. It must rely on water shipments and its small amount of refiners for its supply. If something should happen to the water shipments, i.e. a hurricane, tsunami, etc. it would greatly effect the supply of gasoline. The demand of gasoline has increased steadily over the last twenty years. In 1981 the U.S. averaged 6.5 million barrels of gasoline consumption per day. By comparison, in 2004 the U.S. averaged 9.2 million barrels of gasoline consumption per day. For most of this time period, gas prices stayed relatively the same. This is because the U.S. refineries increased their production to meet the demand and maintain the equilibrium price. Also during this same time period worldwide demand for crude oil increased 27%. Crude oil producers also increased their production to meet the demand keeping prices the same. The price of gasoline is affected by many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Threats To The Mongol Empire Communication is vital when you are control of a large area. The Mongols didn t have modern technology to keep up on things going on in different parts of the Mongol Empire, so they had to come up with alternative ways to keep in constant contact. If the United States Government didn t have contact with their citizens and other government officials, there would be complete chaos. Without communication, you would have no idea what has happened in different parts of the world. If there was ever a threat to the U.S., there would be no other way to get vital information then to send someone to transfer information to different parts of the countries. That is actually what Genghis Khan did. He sent horses and people to transfer information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Morality Is Acceptable By Your Standards Or Not MORALITY DOES NOT HAVE ONE FLAVOR Human beings are very complicated creatures. I m not talking about the shape, I m referring to the feelings they, have and the technique of their thinking. Each human has his or her own believes and theory, so sometimes people argue about reality and fiction or right and wrong. As humans we do have characteristics such as chivalry, honesty, and trustworthy. Among the feelings and the characteristics comes morality, it is the knowledge of knowing the right and the wrong and distinguish between them but we cannot say that morality have one flavor because some people have a different perspective from others. Through my experience and our religion lessons, anything that makes us behave like an animal is forbidden. As a reader you have to understand the author s morality through his or her writing so you can determine if the writer s morality is acceptable by your standards or not. Raymond Carver is an amazing writer although I did not read all of his works, but he always leave the writer hanging at the end not knowing what is happening except for the actions which is a sad thing, also the way he writes about the ending is complicated because the goal of the story lays at the end of it. Unknowing what is the end precisely makes the reader in a huge circle of wondering and of course cannot determine the morality of the story, which is the writer s morality at the first place. • 7. The Civil Argument Of Epistemology For decades, there has been an open deliberation over whether knowledge is intrinsic or if it springs itself from life experiences: the civil argument of epistemology. Epistemology is the investigation of knowledge and its techniques and legitimacy. Individuals from philosophers to scientists to psychologists have argued their perspectives, yet even today the contention is not yet settled. Personally, I believe that it bodes well for knowledge to originate from experiences. Three philosophers that are solid proponents for the belief that knowledge is derived from experiences are Gaston Bachelard, Immanuel Kant, and John Locke. One of the great epistemologists was Gaston Bachelard who was more commonly known as a philosopher of science. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant concurred with empiricists that concepts without perceptions are empty (lonestar). He acknowledged that concepts and ideas cannot constitute knowledge alone and that innate ideas do not constitute knowledge at all. This brought about his conviction that there must be experience(s) in life for there to be knowledge. His theory was that there are two sorts of reasoning to acquire knowledge: posteriori reasoning and priori reasoning. The posteriori reasoning depends upon experience in the world that provides us with information. For example, if I said that Barack Obama was the president of the United States in 2010, I would only know that this is true through experience; I would not be able to determine this through an analysis of the concepts of president or Barack Obama. In contrast, a priori reasoning does not rely on experience to inform it, but to create the knowledge. Kant believed that with priori reasoning, the dynamic mind relates and understands experiences in terms of causes and effects where an event takes place and causes an experience to happen with the effect of knowledge being gained. Kant s crucial insight here is to argue that experience of a world as we have it is only conceivable if the psyche provides an efficient organizing of its representations; the mind makes deductions prior to experiences, but can only truly experience something in the event that it obtains knowledge from the ... • 8. Walt Disney s Influence On The Entertainment Industry Walt Disney was a very influential man to the entertainment industry. He made animation a whole new type of entertainment. Although Walt went through many struggles and problems, he pushed on and eventually saw results for all his hard work. Many hardships got in Disney s way such as unsupportive parents and even bankruptcy; Walt pushed on through, always creating, working hard, and persevering to accomplish his dream. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. His father, Elias, was a carpenter when Walt was born. Eventually, Elias and his wife, Flora, saved up enough money to start a home building company together. Walter had four siblings: Roy, Herbert, Raymond, and Ruth (Russell 9). Because Ruth was younger than Walt, Walt waited until the age of seven to start school so that he could start at the same time as Ruth. Before he went to school, his mother, Flora, taught him how to read (Russell 10). Walt grew up on the Disney family farm and worked hard on the farm. He worked at the neighbor s farm raising corn, wheat, barley, cows, pigs, and chickens (Giltin 18). Later, Elias grew sick, and the Disney s had to sell the farm. They moved to Kansas City (Russell 11). Throughout Walter s schooling, he loved to be on stage directing, producing, and being on stage (Russell 11). • 11. America s Impact On The Planet Essay As a species that continues to evolve and expand on this planet, humans have made many lasting impacts to their home. Some of these changes often go generally unnoticed, such as the shift in popular music, or fashion trends. Even transitions from job to job, or relocating to a new city seem to weigh lightly on the general public. However, unbeknownst to us, we as a species have a far greater impact on this planet than we would like to admit. Throughout our day to day lives we tend to unknowingly impact and mold or future. It can be something as simple as forgetting to recycle that jug of milk, or neglecting to clean up a spill after a self done oil change. Even the foods we eat and the way we manufacture them have a lasting effect on the planet. Perhaps one of the more noticeable ways we as a society affect the Earth though is how we build upon it. With much of the global population centralized in urban areas, and there continued growth. It is interesting to observe the way in which this urbanized land reacts to human interference. One of the more interesting aspects of urbanization is the use and management of water. With the continued expansion of cities, and the modification of the land in which these concrete jungles cover, changes to land are inevitable. In his book Urban Storm Water Management, Hormoz Pazwash briefly summarizes some of the impacts urbanization has to land, and water quality stating. In Arthur Miller s essay Tragedy and the Common Man , a picture is painted of a flaw full man, known as the modern hero of tragedies. Miller describes what characteristics the modern tragic hero possesses and how he differs from the heroes depicted by classic Greek playwrights such as Sophocles and Aristotle. In order to understand how drastically the modern hero has evolved, one must first understand the basic characteristics that the heroes created by Sophocles and Aristotle encompass. The Greek tragic heroes, otherwise known as the protagonists, illustrated by tragic Greek playwrights, were never normal people. All heroes were citizens of high class, such as princes. During his visit Willy tells Howard about an elderly salesman he met named Dave Singleman and how meeting Dave made Willy realize that selling was the greatest career a man could want. We extend this literature by examining cross sectional and time series evidence on the propensity to pay dividends in several developed financial markets the United States (U.S.), Canada, the United Kingdom (U.K.), Germany, France, and Japan over the period 1989 to 2002. Specifically, we examine (i) whether the characteristics of dividend payers and nonpayers are common across countries; (ii) whether these characteristics have changed over time; and (iii) whether firms in other countries exhibit a declining propensity to pay dividends in recent years. • 17. Word Learning And Language Of The World s Different... Words are the essential part of communication in all of the world s different languages. Most adults understand thousands of words, and the majority of people master a vast vocabulary of words. Word learning and language are perhaps two of the more complex developmental achievements in human evolution, they stand out because of the conceptual and linguistic organization (Waxman, Lidz, 2006). This complex process has been very well studied in human infants and literature about this topic is abundant. Infants gather words and phrases from the human language to which they are exposed to and make important advances in areas such as conceptual and linguistic domains. Furthermore, infants learn words with extraordinarily speed; this gathering of words is so fast that some researchers argue that there must be specialized mechanisms that deal with word learning (Gleitman, L. R., Cassidy, K., Nappa, R., Papafragou, A., Trueswell, J. C. 2005). These specialized mechanisms for word learning are associated with fast mapping, which means that a word meaning is deduced from very few exposures to that specific word. The ability of children to fast map is regarded as proof of the astonishing efficiency of early word learning (Dollaghan, C. A. 1987). There is certainly great knowledge about word learning in human infants; however, this subject has not been studied extensively in animals. One of the few researches in this topic suggests that a dog also have the ability to learn words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The only purpose of government would be to protect its citizens from force or fraud (Reisman, George). Socialism is considered the weak; less effective form of economy. By failing to emphasize incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail (Mark Perry, 1995). It is the type of organization that involves the government owning and controlling the major industries and prosperous companies in the country. The fact that socialism disregards private property rights in establishing incentives for economic development and growth is another reason why socialism fails. • 30. Feminism Is A Conflict Theory In this essay it will assess to what extent feminism has added to our understanding of society. Firstly, Feminism is a conflict theory that believes that all religions are instruments set up by men to oppress women with the set of beliefs and practices. There are many different branches of feminism; the ones being evaluated are called Liberal, Radical and Marxist feminists. Feminists believe that society is malestream and not mainstream as people believe. The first main flaw in feminist theory is the fact that feminists only examine society from the viewpoint of women, they do this because they believe they are in fact helping fight against the oppression of women but the problem is that they do not examine the views of many male counterparts and therefore cannot help us completely understand our society. The main differentiation between the different feminist theories is the way that the oppression against women is caused. Firstly, Liberal feminist are focused on human and civil rights and freedom of individuals, to summarise, they believe that all humans should have equal rights within their society. They believe that society changing itself to help women does not happen. Liberal feminists believe the status of women changing can become a reality if laws that are oppressing for women change because it would create more opportunities for women to prove that they are equal to men. • 31. Positive Classroom Management A. The teacher classroom manages the classroom in an extremely positive manner, and is strong on positive reinforcements. When she speaks to her students, her voice is soft and calm which allows her students to remain calm to correct their behavior. Students are aware of the classroom expectations and the proper behavior when they are working with other students. When the class is transitoning between activities she is clear with what they are expected to do, and how it should look like. When the whole class is not able to complete the task she does ask them to correct the behavior and allows them a second opportunity to successfully transition. Positive classroom management shows that students behave in a positive way and are less likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Student Number : s1450309 Discuss the origin and significance of diversity within and between species in a named taxonomic group of your choice. The stability of biodiversity over millions of years of evolution has been one of the most persistent puzzles of ecology and evolution (Hutchinson, 1961). Different species had evolved from their ancestral and were not created in their present forms (Darwin, 1859). This essay will explore how diversity arises within and between species and the significance of it using examples from the taxonomic group Apodiformes in the order Aves, which is known as hummingbird. Even it involves only change in a single base, whether it be insertion, deletion or substitution the effects are significant. The severity of the frame shift depends on how far down the DNA base sequence the mutation occurs (Crick, 1961). It gives rise to the changes in genotype and therefore different phenotype will be expressed. Sometimes mutations can occur in noncoding proteins region and bring no effect to the phenotypic characteristic. This is known as neutral variation. Mutation is a random and spontaneous process during DNA duplication. The formation of a harmful protein may be disadvantageous to the organism. Selection pressure will remove these alleles and it will not be passed on the next generations. On rare occasion, a mutant allele brings advantage to the bearer by making it better adapted to the environment thus increasing the reproductive success. For example, Patagona gigas living in Andean Highlands, an oxygen poor region in South Africa which is 16,000 feet above sea level, experienced identical mutation independently and not by interbreeding. The mutation change their haemoglobin gene make it easier for oxygen to bind (Projecto Garcia, 2013). Hence high altitude hummingbirds have adaptive oxygen binding traits to live in higher elevation zone. Significance of variation within species Wide combinations of alleles from ... (A1P30) Cyrano de Bergerac, written by Edmond Rostand, breaks away from the generic framework of famous poet and playwright, William Shakespeare. Edmond Rostand alters the effect of a chorus, in addition to taking scenes away from acts. Other supporting characters such as Christian, Roxanne, and De Guiche, have different self esteem levels which leaves hints about conformity. One of the main points made by the Kabalarian translation is that someone with the name Megan Kessen should have a strong desire for peace and harmony. This is true about me; fighting makes me deeply uncomfortable. To illustrate, two weeks ago, I got into a fight with my best friend, Alaina. I felt attacked by the hurtful things she said and consequently did not handle the situation as I ought to have. We both went to bed that night upset, and the swirling thoughts kept me up. I had to see Alaina the next morning at a swim meet, and being together for six hours that day was awkward and painful. At that time, we weren t able to talk about what had happened, because we had to focus on our swimming, but we decided that as soon as we got home, we would call each other and work out our feelings. Later that day, we were able to talk through what had made us each upset, and as I started to understand her feelings more, I was also able to apologize for my actions. • 36. Reflection Of Chemistry Dr. Adriana, we need 70 mL of ethanol, I said confidently after computing the dilution factor needed for an immunohistochemistry experiment. This was my first time using the molarity formula in real life. When I first learned this formula, it had little significance because I never had to use it. That was the way most things were to me regarding science; I was bombarded with formulas and equations to memorize with no intention of actually using them. While I was told that I was good at chemistry and was able to work hard and do well in the class, it was not until I sat in a real medical research laboratory that my passion for chemistry began. It was quite the adjustment for me; the answers to my questions could not be found in a book. I soon realized that memorizing formulas would not suffice; I needed a way to visualize intricate ideas on the subatomic level. But this is what made me love the experience the challenge. Everything we did used chemistry concepts but took it a step further. The goal was not to get the right answer; with each step we were closer to a solution for patients struggling with cancer. This topic hit home to me because it felt as though I was personally leave a touch on lives of each person I knew who the disease had affected. Through working for a purpose greater than just myself, I found a new love for chemistry. Social sanctions, such as banning popular American and European websites (Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) can impede the progress of a nation s citizens causing them to be years behind the rest of the world. Another example of social sanctions is prohibiting a country from international competition, such as the World Cup or the Olympics, similar to the occurrence in South Africa when it was bared from the Olympics and World Cup due to their racist apartheid regime. These sanctions can technologically deprive a nation of most developments. If a nation is technologically deprived, it cannot compete with other countries due to lack of sufficient knowledge. It also keeps its citizens enclosed in a theoretical bubble, disconnecting them from the rest of the world. This is problematic for Burma s government, a nation cannot advance into the future, if its people are still affixed, lingering to the past.
