Discuss the needs and importance of evaluation in education.pdfuplevelway
Evaluation in education refers to the systematic process of assessing and appraising educational programs, curriculum, teaching methodologies, student performance, and overall educational effectiveness. The goal of evaluation is to gather information, make informed decisions, and improve the quality of education.
Needs of Evaluation in Education:
Assessment of Learning Outcomes: Evaluation helps assess whether students are meeting the expected learning outcomes. It provides insights into their knowledge, skills, and understanding of the subject matter.
Curriculum Improvement: Evaluation assists in evaluating the effectiveness of the curriculum. It helps identify areas that need improvement or modification to better meet the educational objectives and standards.
Quality Assurance: Evaluation serves as a tool for quality assurance in education. It ensures that educational programs and processes meet established standards and are of a high standard.
Teacher Effectiveness: Evaluating teachers’ performance helps in identifying strengths and areas for improvement. This information is valuable for professional development and enhancing teaching effectiveness.
Feedback for Improvement: Evaluation provides constructive feedback to both educators and students. This feedback is essential for making improvements, refining teaching methods, and enhancing student learning experiences.
Resource Allocation: Through evaluation, educational institutions can assess the efficiency and effectiveness of resource utilization. This helps in making informed decisions regarding resource allocation for improved educational outcomes.
Accreditation and Accountability: Evaluation plays a crucial role in the accreditation process for educational institutions. It ensures that institutions meet certain standards, promoting accountability and transparency.
Policy Development: Evaluation provides data and insights that can inform the development of educational policies at various levels, from the classroom to the national education system.
This ppt present literature on the meaning, purpose, and characteristics of continuous assessment, rational for adopting and implementing continuous assessment. It goes further to highlight problems of continuous assessment implementation, and present some guidelines of Planning and Organizing Continuous Assessment for more improved learning system.
Curriculum Evaluation is the process of collecting data on a programme to determine its value or worth with the aim of deciding whether to adopt, reject, or revise the programme.
Curriculum Change, Planning and Transactionvalarpink
Curriculum Change
With changing time, curriculum should also change reflecting the needs and aspirations of the people. There cannot be a uniform curriculum for all the countries for all the time, because education is related to social, economic and political changes in the country. Curriculum content should be based on current information and not on the past information that has been proved to be false or outdated and unusable. There is therefore need for constantly changing and updating the curriculum content.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. This process will gather empirical data to support
whether the material or the curriculum is useful,
relevant, reliable and valid.
Most field testing or try out follow some form of
research designs.
3. Using the principles of
curriculum writing and
backed up by the content
specialization of the
writers and the
consultants, the modules
were written.
4. The printed modules were reviewed by the consultants and
peers, however, there was a need to try out or pilot test
the activities and the field practical by the users who are
the student themselves.
5. The students
were asked
regarding the
clarity of
instruction, the
sufficiency of
time to
accomplish the
activity, and
their
understanding of
the lessons
learned from
the activity.
6. The module writers
had to determine
the level of
understanding of
the words,
instructions,
technical terms and
the concepts of
being developed.
7. The try-out or pilot testing
assures the teachers and the schools
that indeed the curriculum materials
are ready for use.
8. • Modification and revision are inherent characteristics of a
curriculum. The pilot test or try – out is a developmental
process that gives the signal as to whether the particular
curriculum can already be implemented with confidence.
9. The Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) is the
original name of the curriculum to the whole nationwide
system of education in 2002. But after one year it was
renamed as Revitalized Basic Education Curriculum
(RBEC)
10. Therefore, the pilot test or try-out is a
developmental process that gives the signal as to
whether the particular curriculum can already be
implemented with confidence.
11. Curriculum Monitoring
Monitoring is important to:
• Determine if the curriculum is still relevant and effective
• Know if the curriculum is working or not;
12. • Provide decision on what aspects have to be
retained, improved or modified; and
• Provide decision that would even end or
terminate the program
13. Curriculum Evaluation
Curriculum evaluation refers to a systematic
process of judging the value, effectiveness and
adequacy of a curriculum: its process, product
and setting which will lead to informed decision.
14. In practice, there are two ways of
curriculum evaluation
1. School-based evaluation
2. Accreditation
15. 1. School-based Evaluation
Is an approach to curriculum evaluation
which places the content, design, operation
and maintenance of evaluation procedure
in the hands of the school personnel.
16. For example, two teachers may
wish to examine a science unit they are
both teaching. They will undertake an
evaluation in order to improve their
individual teaching activities.
17. On the other hand, the whole school
may undertake curriculum evaluation of the
mathematics program across all levels in order
to re-evaluate school policy and initiate re-
development of the mathematics curriculum.
18. Some advantages of the School-Based
Evaluation
• Accountability is shared by all, hence bias and
conflict are minimized.
• School personnel develop evaluation skills.
• The real concerns of the school and community are
addressed by the evaluation.
19. • Broad participation of school personnel provide
opportunities for building school cohesiveness.
• Provides reliable and valid information on curriculum,
resources, and general school functioning.
20. 2. Accreditation
Is a voluntary process of submitting a
curricular program to an external accrediting body
for review in any level of education: basic, tertiary
or graduate school to assure standard.
21. Accreditation is viewed as a process by which
an institution at the tertiary level evaluates its
educational activities, in whole or in part, and seeks an
independent judgment to confirm that it substantially
achieves its objectives, and is generally equal in quality
to comparable institutions.
22. The actual accreditation survey visits are
conducted by teams of accreditors usually composed
of five (5) members per team per program staying in
the host institution for a period of three (3) days.
23. Among the many purposes of accreditation
are to foster excellence and improve programs. The
curricular accreditation will assure the academic
community, other agencies and the general public that
curriculum meets standards comparable to other
excellent institutions offering similar programs.
24. What are the areas of accreditation under Curriculum
and Instruction?
1. Curriculum and Program Studies
2. Classroom Management
3. Instructional Processes or Methodologies
4. Graduation Requirements
5. Administrative Support for Effective Instruction
6. Evaluation of Academic Performance of Students
25. 1. Curriculum and Program of Studies
Program of studies includes the clusters of
knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and experiences that
will provide the students at any level with the necessary
competencies for effective learning.
26. For basic education, program of studies includes
the subject areas in English, Mathematics, Science,
Filipino and Makabayan. Any program of studies should
meet the Department of Education requirements for basic
education.
27. While the CHED mandates the program of studies for
tertiary and advanced education. The course or degree
programs are composed of general education subjects,
professional education subjects and major subjects. They
are also enriched by subjects called electives.
28. 2. Classroom Management
The teacher who implements the curriculum
sees to it that management of teaching and learning in the
classroom follows procedure and guidance to enhance
and create an environment conducive to learning.
29. An environment conducive to learning considers the
physical factors such as classroom physical arrangements,
ventilation, lighting, cleanliness; while the human factors
include the teachers’ attitude, students’ responses, teacher-
students relationships, student-student relationships and
interaction.
30. 3. Instructional Processes or
Methodologies
The decision of choosing and using the method of
teaching is a crucial factor in curriculum and instruction.
There are varied methodologies that are compatible with the
different learning style of the students.
31. Graduation means successful
accomplishment of the curricular program of
studies. A student has to accomplish its academic
program as prescribed in the program of studies.
4. Graduation Requirements
32. A curriculum can be best implemented if there is support of
the school administration. Quality instruction should be sustained
by requiring needed instructional materials, high quality
examination questions and other
support for effective instruction.
5. Administrative Support for Effective
Instruction
33. 6. Evaluation of Academic Performance of
Students
It is necessary that learning outcomes be evaluated. After
all the best measure of a curriculum is the learning
outcome of the students. The evaluation of students’
performance should make use of valid and reliable tools which
are periodically reviewed and revised.
