ASSESSMENT OF CAST
A quick assessment of why we have chosen
the people we have.
Cast
• With all of our interviewees we have tried to ensure that
each one has a different story to tell through the pursuing
of different areas within the creative industries. Each
person specialises in areas different to one another. We
have done this to make sure that our documentary covers
as many areas of the industry as possible. We are happy
with the cast members that we secured and believe that
they will be perfect for our A-B income bracket and all
offer knowledge different to one another which will appeal
to our audience such as the experiencer and the reformer
who thrive for new knowledge.
• We have made this presentation to give you more insight
into who we actually have for our documentary, what it is
they do and how they will appeal to our target audience.
Who is David Gauntlet
• David gauntlet is a media theorist who has looked at
contemporary media audiences. In his later life he has
since moved towards a focus on everyday making and
sharing of digital media and the role that this has on self
identity and self expression. In 2007 David gauntlet
published an online article about media 2.0 which created
discussion amongst other media theorists and educators.
The article argues that traditional form of media studies
teaching and research fails to recognize the changing
media landscape. Making is connecting published in 2008
is an attempt to rethink audience studies. Gauntlet argued
that there would be a change in the sit-back-and-be-told
culture to a making and connecting culture.
David gauntlet
• David Gauntlet was the first person we asked to be in our
documentary. We first asked him because we believed that his
immense knowledge of the media world and the theory behind
it would help break from the purely creative minds. We thought
that his logical ways of thinking would be an interesting
contrast from people such as Jeff, Paul, Toby and the busker.
We feel that for David gauntlet creativity is less personal to him
so he will be able to give a point of view that is less
manipulated to personal attachments. His theoretical
understanding will help appeal to our secondary audience who
are aged around 50+ in a A-B income bracket so theory will
appeal to them as they are a less passive audience. The theory
will also appeal to the younger audience who will have just
come out of university so are well educated and will understand
the theory.
Who is Toby Moores
• Toby Moores is grandson of Sir John Moores founder of
UK retailer Littlewood. In 1997 Toby Moores set up
Sleepydog ltd internet providers to the Mobile telecom
sector. During this time the company produced a range of
multimedia content for global mobile phone operators and
distributors.
• In 2004 Sleepydog ltd secured the worlds first blanket
music license for games and created Buzz the music quiz
for the PlayStation 2. Buzz became Sony’s fastest selling
original game to reach 100 million us dollars in world wide
sales.
• Currently Sleepydog is working with a number of TV
production companies to develop innovative television
formats.
Toby Moores
• We have chosen Toby Moores to be a part of our
documentary because we believe that his knowledge on a
variety of different creative mediums will offer interesting
answers and opinions on the creative industry as unlike
our other interviewees Toby Moores has taken part in
different areas of the creative industry so will be able to
help us explore different areas that we otherwise would
not have been able to due to timing constraints. It would
also be interesting to see how Toby Moores creates a
balance between business and creativity.
Who is Jeff Kindleysides
• Jeff Kindleysides is co founder along side David
Checkland of Checkland Kindleysides. He is now sole
owner of the company. The company started in 1979 and
by 1984 they had created the first true flagship sports
store on oxford street. In 1987 they then designed the
very first Levis store in the UK. In 1996 CK helped design
the first ray ban store in its 58 year history. In 1998 the
move the new 23,500 square ft building and 17,000
square ft workshop was marked by the official opening by
HRH Duke Of Edinburgh. In 2000 the company designed
the Manchester united retail experience in the clubs fan
store. Since then the company have opened a London
studio, redesigned the Levi flagship store and in 2014
designed the hunters first ever global flagship store.
Jeff Kindleysides
• We wanted to interview Jeff because we believe that he
knowledge on a client to client relationship would be an
interesting contrast from Paul Bennet who uses creativity
in a solely personal way. We wanted to know how Jeff still
maintains his own creative identity but still managing to
maintain the wants and needs of a client. We also think
that it would be interesting to have Jeff talk about how a
combination of creative thinking can form a separate
identity for Checkland Kindleysides and how Checkland
Kindleysides maintains this identity with changes and and
fluctuations in the industry.
Who is Paul Bennett
Paul Bennett is a stock manager By day and a digital artist
by night. Within his free time Paul Bennett creates digital
artwork from his home studio. We have chosen Paul
Bennett because he pursues the creative industry on a
level which is personal to him in every way. He creates
digital images which are carefully constructed through
drawings first and then imported and manipulated through
digital software. For Paul this is not his main job but
something he pursues in his free time. We wanted Paul
because of this.
Why a Busker?
• We want a busker within our because for them it is a very
personal job but they are typically people that struggle
making a day to day living off of what they do. We wanted
to find out what made them carry on pursing something
creative when it was a struggle and they could have easily
stopped and moved onto something different. Like we are
doing with Paul we want explore the personal side to what
they do but find out what makes himher carry on despite
the constant struggle or unsecure future of their job.
