WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
FROM YOUR AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK?
We used questionnaires to find out what our target audience wanted to see in our documentary in the
research and planning stages of our documentary. From these results we were about to find out what
conventions they wanted to see the most in the documentary. From this, we felt that using questionnaires
was beneficial as it let would let us know an overall opinion on our documentary, radio trailer and TV
listings double page spread.
THE DOCUMENTARY LOOKED PROFESSIONAL.
Strongly Agree Agree
Disagree Strong Disagree
We asked our sample of students whether they thought that the documentary
looked professional. The results showed that people either agreed or strongly
agreed. I felt that that in some areas our documentary it looked a little
unprofessional, but as a whole I felt that it looked slick, the quality of the clips
were high and this is what gave it a professional look. The length of time we
spent editing added to the professionalism- and the questionnaire results have
reflected on this. I think if we hadn’t have re-taken clips which had poor sound
quality or generally weren’t up to standard then we wouldn’t have had such a
successful response.

Strongly Agree Agree Disagree Strongly Disagree
When we first decided on the topic of the
documentary, we wanted it to be controversial
and interesting enough for the audience to
want to watch it past the opening 5 minutes
which we created. From these statistics, it
shows that we definitely chose a topic that the
audience learnt from and therefore found
interesting. In my opinion, I found the topic
really interesting and I learnt a lot myself- even
if it is something not in my forte. I am glad that
we as a group were able to share what we
learnt ourselves and the audience enjoyed it.
THE MUSIC POSITIVELY ADDED TO THE
DOCUMENTARY.
The results show that people thought that the
music did in fact add positively to the
documentary. This is a good result as we felt
that the soundtrack was upbeat and added
some life to the documentary- something that
people of our own age range (young adults)
would approve of. It was a good attribute to
the documentary as it reflected the audience
and style of the documentary we were aiming
for.
Strongly Agree Agree Disagree Strongly Disagree
THE QUALITY OF THE SOUND LEVELS WERE
EXCELLENT
The feedback from this question we posed
was undeniably disappointing. We had spent a
lot of time manipulating the sound levels until
they were all balanced, but unfortunately the
final edit of our documentary –with the sound
levels corrected- had corrupted and hadn’t
been exported correctly. We thankfully
realised this too and were able to correct it
and save the correct version of our
documentary.

THE VOICEOVER WAS INFORMATIVE.
The results show a positive response,
meaning that the audience found the voice
over provided useful or interesting
information. We as a group felt that the
voiceover was one of the most important
feature of our documentary and to find that
the audience found it informative shows that
what the narrator was speaking was fitting
with the visuals. I think this made the
documentary come together well.

The results from this question show that the
majority strongly agree. This is great
feedback as the purpose of the radio trailer
was to promote our documentary which is
an important aspect of gaining viewers. I
think that the technique we used of using
the same aspects from the documentary –
for example, the same narrator, same
soundtrack and audio clips.
THE RADIO TRAILER SOUNDED PROFESSIONAL.
The feedback from this question
shows an even distribution
between Strongly Agree and
Agree. This is a good response as
it gives a good impression of what
the documentary is going to be
like. I think that the radio trailer is
of enough length to entice the
audience through emotive
language spoken by the narrator
and the enigmatic beginning.

THE SNIPPETS FROM THE DOCUMENTARY WERE
APPROPRIATE.
It took us a long time to find the most suitable quotes
from the documentary to use in the video trailer. We
wanted to entice the audience straight from the
beginning- so we decided to have a sort of montage of
quotes which were all enigmatic – none of them gave
any idea as to what the topic of the trailer was on . I
think this was effective and proved appropriate as the
feedback shows that most people strongly agreed.

THE MAGAZINE EFFECTIVELY PROMOTED THE
DOCUMENTARY E.G. FITS WITH THE STYLE OF THE OTHER
MEDIA PRODUCTS.
We wanted to know if the magazine was good
enough at promoting the documentary as much as
the radio trailer did. These results show that ¾ of
all the people asked felt that it effectively
promoted the documentary. I think the colour
scheme, layout and images used were suitably
used which led to a striking, informative double
page spread. I am not surprised that the majority
agreed with this statement as I too felt that it was
effectively promoting the documentary- which is a
great sign, as promotion of the documentary is
important. 0

THE MAGAZINE IS AESTHETICALLY PLEASING AND
CATCHES THE AUDIENCES ATTENTION
The outcome from this question shows that once
again, ¾ of all the people quizzed felt that the
magazine was aesthetically pleasing- which is a great
sign that the magazine is effectively promoting the
magazine. I think that the magazine main image aided
in making the overall look aesthetically pleasing as
time was spent editing the main image which looked
very striking and effective. The fact that it was eye
striking- which I think was also influenced by the bold
colours used- means we have achieved our aim in
promoting the documentary.

From this feedback it shows that only 2 people
from all of the people asked strongly agreed. I
disagree with the 2 people- as I know that
there are aspects that could be improved- such
as some of the editing on the documentary
and the sound levels on the radio trailer.
However, these results could be even more
accurate, this is because we displayed a
corrupted version of our documentary- so this
could alter results. There is definitely room for
improvement in our three media products,
which could have been sorted significantly by
balancing the sound levels.
NOTES FROM THE QUESTIONNAIRE.
We asked for a little extra feedback on the questionnaire and we were met with quotes such as;
“The sound level was too different in some places!”
“It looks really professional”
“I’d carry on watching the documentary!”
“The start of the radio trailer was really effective with the use of short quotes”
“Eye catching magazine”
These are all helpful replies on our products as it lets us know what needs to be improved – the sound
levels *which have already been changed since then* and also praises us for the work we have done.
IN CONCLUSION…
Gaining this audience feedback was crucial in letting us know how well we did. A massive benefit of doing
this and asking the people who we did was that some were representative of the target group we were
focused on for our documentary. Audience feedback is always important and has been incredibly beneficial
for us as a group as we have learnt originally what the target audience wanted to see in the documentary
and now, what could be improved and what we did well on. Overall we found out that we created,
particularly our double page spread and radio trailer were most effective and professional, the only thing
letting the documentary down was the sound levels- but that was due to a technical fault.
