Question 3. What Have
You Learnt From Your
Audience Feedback?
LUCY OLLIER
Most people found the
topic of our documentary
interesting which gives us a
positive outlook on the
topic of hair in which we
chose. I learnt that a topic
of documentary should be
interesting in order to
engage a wider audience.
We got a range of different
responses from this
question which
demonstrates that people
have a different outlook on
their idea of entertaining.
What may be entertaining
to one person might not be
for another.
From this feedback, the
sound seemed to be an issue
within the documentary. I
have since learnt that the
sound needs to be correct in
the way that the music bed
needs to be quieter and the
dialogue from interviews
needs to be louder. I am
aware of how to edit this on
premier.
From these results we can see
that we met our goal of
creating a documentary which
is similar to professional ones
as we followed codes and
conventions so that the
documentary can be
recognised as being that
genre.
From these results, it is
clear that our print advert
was relatively eye
catching and that some of
the audience were
interested in it. This is
important as it is used to
advertise the main
product. This could be
improved by better
editing skills.
The audience felt that all three
products which we created fit
well as a package. This is
important because the radio and
print adverts are used to
advertise the main product. We
linked them by using the same
narrator, the same slogan and the
same title. We also used sound
bites from the documentary
within the radio advert.
The majority of the audience
said that they would watch
the full documentary but
some said they didn’t. From
this feedback we could have
tried to make our
documentary more
interesting by including a
wider range of interviewees
and vox pops in order to
make everyone want to
watch the full 30 minutes.
From this we found that the
mise en scene was relevant to
the theme of hair as there
were hair products in the
backgrounds of interviews. To
improve this, we could have
interviewed students in a more
suitable area and made
hairdressers wear relevant
clothing during interviews.
Everyone thought that the
people interviewed were
relevant to the theme of the
documentary so nothing in this
area would need improving.
We interviewed hairdressers
and students but we could
have interviewed a barber as
well to make it more varied.
Most people were interested
in the documentary and it
kept them entertained
although some people
weren’t interested. To
improve this, we could have
included a wider range of
footage to make the
documentary more
intriguing.
Overall, people did think the
quality of footage was good
but some thought it could be
improved. To improve on
this we could have checked
that the camera was in focus
and ensured that the tripod
was in correct condition.
These results show that the
time and channel for the
programme is convenient for
the audience. I feel that this
should not be changed as
ITV2 is a fitting channel to
watch the documentary on
based on the topic.
The majority of people
feel that the products are
of a good standard which
means that they look
professional due to us
following codes and
conventions. This does
not need to be improved
as the audience is happy
with the final outcome.
Most people enjoyed the
interviews which assures us
that they were of a good
quality and that the people
who we interviewed were
exciting, interesting and
relevant. I believe that we did
the interviews well as these
were the main focus of the
documentary.
I believe that to improve the
documentary, more cut aways
could have been included to
make it more interesting and
quality of footage could have
been a better quality in
regards to some of it being
blurry and out of focus.
