The Pre Cide Hamete Deflationist Character Of Cervantes s...
1 All citations from Don Quixote I II come from the following edition of the book: Cervantes,
Miguel. Don Quijote de La Mancha. Ed. Francisco Rico. Instituto Cervantes: Barcelona, 1998. Print.
2 In this sense, the role of the pre Cide Hamete deflationist character of Cervantes s authorship of/in
Don Quixote I II as hinted at in the late stages of this prologue and subsequently throughout the
book, is to be understood as part of his strategy to insists on the importance of linguistic self
awareness through the deployment of the self reflective narrative technique, e.g. by warning us that
the poems of praise featuring in his book are counterfeit, but including them nevertheless.
3 Born in 1547, he struggled throughout his entire life, plus upon his enrollment as a soldier, he
was badly wounded in The Battle of Lepanto, his subsequent capture by the Turks earning him a
five year period of imprisonment, not to mention that his request to emigrate to America was twice
turned down and he lived in really precarious conditions during his writing of Don Quixote Part I.
4 This approach is much satirized by Cervantes in Los baГ±os de Argel, La Gran Sultana, La
Eleccion de los Alcaldes de Aganzo (1615) and of course, Don Quixote I II. As Zizek claims, what
bothers us in the Other (the non Christian) is that he appears to entertain a privileged relationship
to the object. The other either possesses the object treasure, having snatched it away from us
(which is why we don t have it), or

Speech On Child Labor
So..What is child labor? Child labor is children basically being slaves for other people. Children
who are involved in child labor are sold by their parents to other companies. Adults would not be
considered people who are in child labor because they are grown adults. They work in fields and
factories but mostly factories. Sometimes they work in gold mines but with no safety equipment
whatsoever. These children work all day and not like you think which is maybe 3 hours. They
spend countless hours which I doubt you would even guess working in those fields, Factories and
gold mines. This segment will teach you all about childlaborand what effects it has on these
children. In this essay you will learn about Child Labor and how it affects different children

But that is what set Activists wondering about child labor and what they can do to prevent it from
happening again. This became now a worldwide issue and eventually Craig Kielburger heard about
the problem and he figured out how he could solve it. He eventually started a organization that
helped kids in child labor. He eventually got a success and was able to help other kids in child
labor. All of this just started because of the shooting.
Right now Child Labor is a International problem and it is trying to be stopped in many
countries. We do not child labor because it is a very sad thing to deal with and we do have
sympathy for what those children are going through and how much they have to work. They are not
just doing chores, they are doing labor.
Now let us get into more about the mines that the children do work in. The mines that the
children in child labor work in are very poisonous. They are unlicensed but they still force the
children who do not wear the proper safety equipment to work in the mines and to mine the gold.
The reason of the poison in the mines is because of Mercury which is a very deadly

Music Therapy Personal Statement
When I went to college, I planned to be a musician. I spent my life studying music, and I was
passionate about composing music theory. I spent hours looking at the keys, and I explored
different methods to make unique sounds. I was required to take electives the first semester; I
chose to take psychology. My first essay demonstrated the psychological dynamics of music
therapy. As I studied psychologymore in depth, the concepts paralleled those I studied in music
theory. I began to examine different theoretical approaches to understand various aspects of
behavior. My interest in music as a profession waned; I was obsessed with how the mind works
and I decided to change my major to psychology.

The Book Of Daniel
Although it has not always been recognized as management, management has been around since the
beginning of human kind. Management functions can even be seen in the Bible. In the book of
Daniel, Daniel is seen using the four management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and
controlling.
Planning
Through careful planning, Daniel was given permission to not defile himself with the portion of
the king s meat, nor with his wine. Daniel, a man of the Lord, had purposed in his heart to obey
the Lord. He knew that if he ate of the king s meat, and drank of the king s wine that the Lord
would not be pleased. Daniel made a request to the prince of the eunuchs to be excused from eating
the king s meat. Daniel 1:8 says, But Daniel purposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the ten days were up, Daniel presented his, Hananiah s, Mishael s, and Azariah s progress to
Melzar. Daniel 1:15 says, And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in
flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king s meat. They had achieved a fairer
and fatter countenance than those that ate of the king s meat. Then Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah went before the king and proved to the king that they were far superior than all the other
men that stood before the king as stated in Daniel 1:19 20, And the king communed with them; and
among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they
before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he
found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. Daniel
used the controlling function when he outperformed all the other men.
Application: I can apply this function by comparing my team to the other teams around me. By
comparing my team to other teams, I can asses and fix the areas I need to improve in by
comparing my team to other teams. Also, I can observes the areas that I have been successful in
and continue doing what I am doing.

controlling. Daniel shows how important

The Issue Of Asylum Seekers
While the issue of asylum seekers has mainly challenged Australia s political power and resources,
the debate is mostly ethical and putting human dignity first is integral. Whilst both political parties
have very similar policies in regards to the topical issues, which are in essence going partially
against the Church s stance and human dignity. Australiahas the economy, land, low population
and living style to support more asylum seekers/refugees, especially when we have a ranking of
48 in the world on the scale of how many refugees we currently have accepted.
With both political parties having fairly similar opinions on the refugee situation, only having slight
differences, only a few differences separate the two, with labor wanting to increase the refugee
intake per year to almost double of what the coalition currently has in place which is 13,750 and
labor plan to raise it up to 27,000. (Australian Labor Party) Also labor also plans to reinstate the
UN s refugee convention, which Abbott is currently undermining, which is technically international
law. In one way this breach of international law Abbot has broken is refusing to take refugees that
has been allocated to Australia by the UN, for it is overstepping the coalitions humanitarian intake
policy. Also labor will work to implement a system to release the children from off shore and on
shore detention centres. As well as cutting down the time it takes for an asylum seeker going

Do Studies Of Neurological Disorders Support The Claim...
Do studies of neurological disorders support the claim that specific language functions are
associated with distinct neural structures?
Student ID: 12926466 Studying language in terms of its localization of function has proven to be a
challenging task. Unlike other cognitive processes such as perception, attention and memory,
language research faces the constraint of studying merely human beings. Even though other types
of mammals and birds also develop some form of communication systems their complexity is not
even close to that of the human language. Facing these limitation, early researches that have
embarked on the task to clarify the neural mechanisms associated with language devised a study
field called Neurolinguistics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay will focus on the extent to which studies of neurological disorders support the claim that
distinct neural structures underline specific language functions and look into some of the most
valued contributions made by scientists studying this field. Pierre Paul Broca was one of the
earliest and most influential physicians and anatomists of his time, who in the 1860s conducted
some of the first work on the effects of brain damage on behaviour (Harley, 2008). In 1861 Broca
worked as a surgeon in BicГЄtre general infirmary, where on 11th April, a 50 year old patient
called Leborgne was transported from the main hospital of BicГЄtre, suffering from diffuse
gangrenous inflammation of the entire right inferior limb (Broca, 1861). Leborgne was admitted to
the hospital at the age of twenty one being subject to epileptic attacks and exhibiting lack of ability
to say anything else except the word tan . During his stay in BicГЄtre it was determined that his
language comprehension and intelligence were intact. On the day of Leborgne s death on 17
April 1861, Broca performed an autopsy on his entire body. In his report Broca discussed in great

2014 General Social Survey
My research hypothesis for this study is, if someone has a higher total family income, then they
will be less likely to believe that the government should do more to help improve the standard of
living rather than individuals should help themselves. The independent variable that I will be
identifying and researching will be total family income which is coded as INCOME06 in the
General Social Survey codebook. The dependent variable that I will analyze and discuss is coded
as HELPPOOR in the 2014 General Social Survey codebook and labeled with the question, should
the government do more to improve standard of living? On the other hand, the null hypothesisfor

missing responses. Table 3 shows our dependent variable, should the government improve
standard of living, unfortunately there was a large number of missing data which is totaled to
900 respondents. Lastly, the control variable, age, in Table 5, shows that there were only 9
missing responses for this variable. A missing response could mean that an individual refused to
answer, did not know, or are inapplicable (IAP). As the dependent variable showed a large number
of missing data, almost all of that missing data was IAP. The three variables each have their on
unique aspect to them, but they are rather straight forward. Age and total family income are very
concrete and definite answers given by a respondent, as the questions are straightforward. Should
the government improve standard of living, on the other hand, is a little different. This variable,
HELPPOOR, is based on attitude and must be though about a little more than the others.

Tales of Genji

Literature of Japan
Mary Diaz
The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu deals heavily with Japanese religions and its influence on
Japanese society. Themes of jealousy, responsibility and guilt are also mixed in with the religious
themes. Religions and ideals clash through the course of the novel. Shikibu focused on the two
religions of Buddhism and Shinto. Buddhism represents the modern day religion in the novel and
Shinto is viewed as the old religion. As the novel progress the readers start to see the fusion of the
two religions. Throughout the novel several people such as women and priests live their lives
according to the religion they choose to follow. This work of Japanese literature also includes

The Buddhist priests practice many different rituals and prayers such as the ones for success and
purification. They also practice exorcism which is associated exclusively with Shinto. The two
religions intertwined in Japanese society and in the novel, but the character of Lady Rokujo was
faced with a deep internal struggle due to the fusion of the two religions. Lady Rokujo escorts
her daughter to a Shinto shrine. She begins to feel a sense of guilt and the conflict between two
religions manifests insides her. Rokujo began to view herself as a traitor to the faith of Buddhism
due to the fact she practiced under the beliefs of Shinto at a Shinto shrine. In order for Lady
Rokujo to solve this conflict, she felt she had no other option but to become a nun for the Buddhist
religion.
The theme of religion is very important in the novel and the roles of mysterious spirits that can
be found throughout the novel. The character of Lady Rokuju can be used as a prime example
for how spirits contribute to novel s plot and help it progress. Her relationship with Genji goes on
a downward spiral as the novel progress; therefore she begins to have feelings which Genji finds
unwanting. She began to show distasteful feelings such as being ill tempered and difficult to deal
with. Genji becomes annonyed and tries to distance himself from this relationship by forming a
new relationship with a youthful female named Yugao. They soon have a secret affair and Genji is

Asian Family Traditions Research Paper
Tradition seems to be something you have to follow and strive to accomplish. No one can
follow tradition since there are obstacles. My family has always been in my eyes a typical, Asian
family. One day a woman came up to me and my cousins, and asked if we were related. You see,
I thought my family was just average and Asian because that was what we were mentally. But
physically it was different. My cousins Raymond, Daniella, my little brother Richard and I all
looked Asian. My other cousins Cindy and Natalie looked Black. Not many Asian families look
like this. They go with the stereotype of black hair, brown eyes and, yellow skin. We, were not the
ideal family. This originates from my grandmother. Growing up, she was just my grandmother
nothing extraordinary or different; she just blended into the crowd of other Asian grandmas. Turns

clichГ© but Asians are strict.) I never thought the one to enforce the rule was the person who
also broke it. On the frontlines, her second husband had died. Lastly, was the man who I thought
was my grandfather, we had a picture of him in our shrine. It s traditional if a family member dies
to have a picture of them in your shrine to honor them and remember them in my culture. He was
another Vietnamese guy who my grandmother thought she loved. She married him, had his child
and eventually he died from alcohol poisoning. Seems like a very short synopsis, considering it

Roulette Chapter 3.1 Summary
Chapter 3.1: History of Probability. Roulette Roulette is a game where a person plays not
against another person but against a wheel. Roulette has thirty eight compartments where 1 36
are numbered and are colored either black or red. The remaining two are numbered 0 and 00 and
are colored green. People place their bets by placing their chips into their spots on the roulette
table. Then the dealer spins the wheel and drops a ball onto that spinning wheel and then the ball
stops in one of the compartments. The compartment that the ball lands in is the compartment on
the table that wins as well. Example: If someone bets $10 worth of chips onto number 8
compartment on the roulette compartment and then the ball lands on the number 8 slot on the
wheel then the person gets $10 35 = $350. The reason that you multiple it by 35 is due to the 35 to

Philip Larkin s Faith Healing Essay
How typical in terms of subject, theme, structure and versification is Faith Healing by Larkin?
Philip Larkin s Faith Healing In 1964, Philip Larkin published his third book of poetry, entitled
The Whitsun Weddings . One of the many critically acclaimed poems was Faith Healing . In this
essay, I intend to explore how typical this poem is in terms of subject, theme, structure and
versification. In Faith Healing, women flock to an American Faith Healer for a blessing. The
persona of the poem is written from an outsider s point of view, looking in at this sight. Faith
Healing is divided into three stanzas, each of ten lines. Iambic pentameter is used to give 5 major
stresses to each of the 10 lines. The three stanzas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By now, all s wrong . It is interesting to note that with all 3 of these poems, Larkin adopts a
personal persona. He is omniscient; in Mr Bleaney, it is as though he is a man looking for
accommodation; in Here, it is as though he is the one on a journey and in Faith Healing, he is
present, observing this spectacle. Therefore, I feel that Mr Bleaney and Here are closely linked
to Faith Healing in terms of structure and versification. Faith Healing is an ambiguous poem
that seems critical of religion. At the start of the poem, many flock to the Faith Healer but by
the third stanza, the 20 seconds with the American seem to have ruined their lives. They have
had their true feelings and emotions unlocked and have realised that they have never really been
loved. An immense slackening ache. Spreads slowly through them . The Faith Healer thaws
these emotions and we see the women suffer a sense of real loneliness and depression as this
reality dawns. This strongly correlates with the theme in Mr Bleaney, a poem exploring
loneliness and the fear in which it evokes. In the poem, we are told of Mr Bleaney s old room
that is cheap and not cared for. The persona explores Bleaney s life. Ironically, he finds he can
identify with him in some respects. So it happens

CRIMINAL LAW
ESSAY QUESTION 1 OF 1
State vs. Fabio
Homicide
Homicide is the killing of one human being by another.
When Fabio shot Nicholas with a gun and he died, there was a killing of a human being by another.
Actual Causation
Defendant s acts must have been the actual cause of the victim s death, i.e., but for the Defendant s
actions the victim would not have died.
.
But for Fabio shooting Nicholas, Nicholas would not have been killed. Fabio is the actual cause of
Nicholas death.
Thus, Fabio is the actual cause of Nicholas death.
Proximate Causation
A Defendant s actions are the proximate cause of the victim s death if the result occurred as a
natural and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, Fabio s actions were willful and wanton conduct.
Therefore, there was malice aforethought.
Fabio will be convicted of murder.
First Degree Murder
First degree murder is one committed with the specific intent to kill, plus premeditation and
deliberation.
Fabio drove to a gun shop and purchased a gun and ammunition. He then drove to Nicholas home
and made the conscious decision to shoot Nicholas with the gun killing him. Thus, Fabio had the
requisite specific intent to kill.
However, Fabio will argue that he was angry that Nicholas was having an affair with his wife.
When he went to Nicholas home and asked him about the affair, Nicholas denied that an affair was
going on. This denial of the affair escalated Fabio s anger to the point Fabio shooting Nicholas.
Thus, Fabio acted instinctively and did not have time to deliberate his act. Thus, Fabio will argue
that he had no time to contemplate and appreciate the consequences of his act.
However, it appears from the facts that Fabio purchased the gun with the intent to kill Nicholas.
Therefore, Fabio can be convicted of first degree murder.
Voluntary Manslaughter
Voluntary manslaughter is a killing of a human being without adequate provocation, with a loss of
mental equilibrium and insufficient time to cool off.
When Fabio saw

Command Relationships Command relationships delineate authority, responsibility, and
accountability for force protection and execution of the collective mission, defining command
relations, and understanding the four types of command relationships are essential to effective
communications and mission execution. To understand command relationships one must first
understand the organizational structure of the Armed ForcesLeadership and key terms that
communicate authority and the relationships derived from the structured authority. In a post

In an analysis of the situation in the aftermath of Katrina, there is a clear delineation of authority,
with the National Guard of individual states remaining under state executive control of the
Governor when not federalized (Tkacz, 2006). Understanding the progression of the levels of
command is paramount to understanding command interactions and how command elements are
unified under one Senior Military Officer forming specific operational command relationships.
Command Relationships
Command relationships preserve the preeminence of civil authorities in their domains of obligation
while enabling the full utilization of military forces as permitted by the United States Constitution,
Congressional law, and Presidential directives (Joint Chiefs of Staff, 2013). All United States
military forces within respective branches operate under a single commander establishing a
successive authority structure. Army command relationships define superior and subordinate
relationships between unit commanders. By stipulating a chain of command, command
relationships amalgamates effort and enable commanders to use subordinate forces with extreme
flexibility. Army command relationships classify the level of control exerted on subordinate
organizations (U.S. Department of the Army, 2014).
The type of command relationship is designated by the estimated duration of

will become at it. There are three essential techniques of training to develop my skills as a baseball
player: hitting a baseball, catching a fly ball, and running the bases. When I began to playlittle
league baseball at the age of nine, everything was tough. It took me three years to master these
skills. Perfection is almost impossible to accomplish, but perfection is impossible without
practice. In my first year, my hitting was terrible and I had only one hit in twenty games. During

how to pay attention to my third base coach s signal, our team ended up winning a lot of games.
It would be amazing if I was able to master each skill overnight. However, in baseball, there are so

The Village Blacksmith, The Crowd Of Wild Olive
What is human dignity? We often ask ourselves this question as we grow up, experience things,
and know what is in the world. As we ask this question other questions arise as such, is it earned,
invented, or intrinsic? I believe it depends on the situation, but the following stories bring up each
of these questions and deliver different ways of delivering the ideas of humandignitybeing earned,
invented, or intrinsic. The Village Blacksmith, The Crowd of Wild Olive, Narrative of the life of
Fredrick Douglas all bring up these points and others as well as how different life situations relate
to human dignity.
The Village Blacksmith is a poem about a man that works very hard each day. He is dirty and
sweaty from his hard work. The characters arms are compared to a machine of sorts when the
author says, The smith a mighty man is he, With large and sinewy hands; And the muscles of his
brawny arms Are strong as iron bands. (596). Although rough, and hardworking the story shows
that the man has human dignity when he hears his daughter singing in church and it reminds him
of his wife who has passed away and begins to tear up. He wipes away his tears with his rough
hard working hands. In my opinion, this shows that even though a man is rough, hard working, and
tough he can still have the human dignity to mourn his late wife and have the emotion that comes
from hearing his wife s voice in his daughter, but still be able to work

Jammu And Kashmir Conflict
Jammu and Kashmir
Dhruv Malhotra In the summer of 1947, millions forcefully emigrated from India to Pakistan.
People were uprooted from their homeland and sent to live in Pakistan. Some would travel on
foot, some in carriages, but most by Train. The trains were given a warm sending off by the
officials and sent on their way. As the train reached Pakistan, the doors opened and out flowed a
pool of blood. Almost everyone on the train had been massacred. One of those people was my great
grandfather. Thus, due to this catastrophic and melancholic incident, escalated the great conflict
between India and Pakistan, more specifically, the conflict in Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir is a
state in India, that shares a border with Pakistan, and since the partition of India and Pakistan, it has
been disputed land. Both countries claim the land is theirs, which has subsequently caused several
wars between the two. My stance on the issue is to call for autonomy. To give Jammu and
Kashmir self governance, which will let the state make the decisions rather than the two countries.
It ensures peace for the people of the state, rather than wealth for either India or Pakistan. Jammu
and Kashmir was originally a part of India when the conflict began, though, due to its high Muslim
population, it leaned more towards Pakistan. According to The Times of India, 53% of the
population of Kashmir is Muslim or of Muslim descent and wants to secede to Pakistan . However,
the conflict arises because

Knowledge Management Article Evaluation
Article Summary
This is a summary of the article Knowledge management, project integration and corporate
sustainability: is there a link? by Everton Michels, Paulo Eduardo Antunes Grijб»Џ, Elizandra
Machado and Paulo Mauricio Selig. In the article, the authors study begins by addressing the use of
knowledge management which is defined to combine together knowledge and communication in an
acceptable preservation that should support the formation, operation, and retention of knowledge.
The authors talk about how there is a substantial gap between knowledge management and project
management, but they make the claim that uniting knowledge management and project
management produces several benefits to a project, which in turn can help with a return on
investments.
The study involved texts and database searches that identified keywords such as knowledge
management, project integration, and corporate sustainability in order to help in the search for
relevant documentation and journals for the study. The authors chose to analyze, compile and
utilize 84 studies dated between the years 2004 through 2012, along with already established
bibliographies on the subject matter. The authors claims of the study of knowledge management is
about introducing change within a procedure which in turn is a way to back up the alliances of the
projects and provide corporate sustainability. However, the study ended up being somewhat

Historical Leader Synthesis Essay On Sir Winston Churchill
Historical Leader Synthesis Essay on Sir Winston Churchill
Soaked in sweat, I ran to the library to get a book on a historical leader before they were all gone.
I would like to think I found a great leader, but I think one found me. As I was reading a book on
great leaders of World War II, I initially focused on American leaders, but Sir Winston S.
Churchill seemed fit my exact requirements. Sir Winston S. Churchill was a Visionary and
Ethical Leader. In the following pages, I will explain how Winston was a visionary leader and
how he used Inspirational Motivation and global diversity to gain advantage during World War II. I
will also explain how he critically thought through a gut wrenching decision by using Dr. Toner s

In Harmon s (1991) article, he details a scene where Sir Winston Churchill is sitting around the
strategy table, debating the benefits of area bombing. Area bombing is a tactic where an area is
indiscriminately bombed, regardless of military objective. During the meeting Winston stood up
and proclaimed, Are we beasts, are we taking this too far (Harmon, 1991, p. 3). LM03, Ethical
Leadership, discusses Dr. Toner s three P s, which are principle, purpose, and people (DAF, 2014c,
p. 7). To me, Winston Churchill put the three P s in the correct order when he decided to
commence area bombings. He put the principle of freedom and justice before the purpose of
winning the war and finally, he put the people in their proper place of third. Had he not made
this decision, who knows how many more would have died. The air raids killed innocent women
and children, but many others today enjoy freedom and liberty because of this decision. The war
continued and as the German people became war weary, ended in 1945 due, in part, to Churchill
s proper use of the three P s. Making a decision like this takes guts, resolve, and most importantly
an ability to see the second and third order effects. Winston Churchill would not have made the

Into The Wild, When I Woke Up On Tuesday Morning, It Was...
Humans have achieved evolutionary progress in history through the desire to live a better life and
the ability to adapt to even the harshest conditions. To be sheltered from the harsh weather
conditions, early humans learned to live in caves. To fight off wild animals as well as to cook
food, humans developed their own way of making fire after accidental encounters of the process
through wildfires caused by lightning. However, progress did not come lightly and through the
search for further progress, humans are inevitably reunited with unintended negative consequences
for which Edward Tenner called revenge effects . In Jon Krakauers Selections from Into the Wild,

Through these unconventional adaptations, Julia was able to bury her depressing childhood inside
the deepest part of her mind and focus her attention on her education and career. Through her
constant adaptations, she achieved eventual progress and success. Julia was able to graduate
summa cum laude from Stanford, receiving a full scholarship at a graduate school in New York and
become an award winning producer of documentary films (Stout 385). The same trend of human
achieving progress through adaptation can be observed at a societal scale. The first great modern
stimulus from disaster may have been the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588....this greatest
setback in the history of Spain was what led its king Philip III to offer a perpetual pension of 6,000
ducats to the discoverer of the longitude (Tenner 435). Because of the harsh conditions and
challenges sea navigation posed due to the inability to determine longitude, humans are forced to
overcome this challenge by increasingly focusing their attention toward the search for longitude.
Even though it would take more than a decade until people receive nearly satisfactory results, the
adaptation still led to some fruitful results, such as the advances in mathematics, astronomy,
mechanics, and magnetism. Given these points, Krakauer, Stout and Tenner demonstrated human s

Tim Burton Analysis
In this painting by Tim Burton, our eyes are immediately drawn to the large, red spiral
connected to a large down facing arrow. I choose this picture, due to Tim s excellent use of the
principal of Focal point. He has used his principal of design to make this painting more complex
by adding two other elements, Colour and Lines. Tim s focal point has been careful made by the
bright and bold colour choice of red. Whereas the the organic spiral in the centre of the painting
recreates the sense of confusion and loneliness in which the real focus / subject of the painting

The Coins Of Claudius, Faustina I, And Marcus Aurelius
The coin types may be considered political from the start, for the ubiquitous references to family
and to ancestral achievements were a normal part of political discourse at Rome. Coins were an
integral part of society in Rome. In addition to coins economic function, emperors used coins as
propaganda about their achievements and their family members. These coins would have been
produced and used throughout the empire as an abstract symbolism of power. This was the case
with funerary subject matter that was struck by heirs and other family members to showcase
individuals being consecrated, and their own power as a result of this association. In this essay, I

The Aureus of Divus Claudius was struck under Nero after Claudius death in 54 B.C.E. During
Claudius reign, he proclaimed his intention to follow the policies of Augustus, and restored
stability after the follies of Caligula. He received the title of pater patriae in January 42 B.C.E.
Nero was Claudius stepson through Agrippina, and he was eventually adopted after Agrippina
convinced Claudius to pick Nero over Claudius own son Britannicus. By representing his
adopted father, Nero gained a smoother transition when he took over. The obverse of this coin
says DIVUS CLAUDIUS AUGUSTUS or the divine emperor Claudius along with a portrait of
Claudius. This was an important power distinction for Nero to make, as he would become the
son of a divine figure. The portrait of Claudius shows him as a mature man with wrinkles and a
laurel crown. This would have been how Claudius was represented in life as well as an eternal
middle aged figure. One of the characteristic features of Claudius shown on this coin is his
retreating Claudian chin. The reverse side shows a quadriga carrying a funeral wagon. Above the
wagon are statuary depictions of a divine figure with wings controlling four additional horses. This
imagery highlights Claudius divine nature, when he became a divus after his death. The Sestertius
of Diva Faustina I was struck under Antoninus Pius reign from between 141 to 162 B.C.E. Faustina

every hour, every minute, as told by Joe Biden in a hearing on October 19, 1990. This became the
start of the ViolenceAgainst Women Act of 1994. Gender motivated crimes, towards women, were
rising at epidemic rates in the few decades before the Violence Against Women
Act was brought to

Memoirs Of A Geisha Literary Analysis
In both the novels, the theme of pursuing love has been used as a means to emphasize that the
characters are either struggling or have to struggle in order to attain true love. In Memoirs of a
Geisha, for example, Chiyo decides to go through the rigorous training of becoming a geisha,
when she realizes that she needs to do so in order to come close to the Chairman, someone she has
fallen in love with. After meeting the Chairman for the first time, Chiyo says, With my eyes
squeezed tightly shut and my hands together, I prayed that they permit me to become a geisha

At the same time though, Mary Keane s expression of her life being lonely signifies that she
wants to and has tried to pursue love. This is also clear because of the fact that she dates her
brother s friend George, although he soon disappears. All this establishes the fact that Mary
Keane has been struggling to pursue love. Most of this has been done through references to
Mary Keane s past love life. The fact that she is dating but yet feels lonely clearly establishes the
fact that Mary Keane is struggling internally in pursuing true love. This is something which is
similar to that of Memoirs of a Geisha. We see that even Chiyo starts up as a lonely person and
struggles to pursue love. Although the intensity of struggle which Chiyo has to go through is far
more, the basic premise of struggling for love remains the same. In short, it is evident that both
Chiyo and Marry Keane have to struggle in order to find love. Likewise, in the novel After This,
Michael Keane also struggles in pursuing love. As explained above, most of the struggle needs to
be interpreted by the conditions the characters end up in. For Michael Keane, he ends up getting

All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis
We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder
way;I could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand
by me . Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in
All Quiet on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick
together and not become separated, and keep each other s spirits up in the darkest of days.
Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line,
Paul becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot
down. It is Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher to look for me, (Remarque 227).
Paul s friends coming to search for him shows comradeship because they are being brave and
risking their lives to find their friend. Going out to look for Paul shows that they care about and
value him. During a bombardment, new recruits are traumatized, scared, and helpless because they
do not know what to do, so veterans quickly teach them. We teach them to fling themselves into
holes as quick as lightning... (Remarque 134). The soldiers try to help each other during battle,
which displays comradeship because veterans want to help them live. They aren t doing this to
have bodies to fight, but to save human souls. Comradeship is embraced by soldiers rescuing and
teaching each other during war.
Comradeship is also shown when

Environmental Sustainability And Its Impact On Canadians...
Nearly fourteen years ago, the Calgary based oil enterprise Enbridge announced its most
controversial project yet; to build a $6.5 billion oil duct from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat,
British Columbia (Canadian Press, 2013, para. 1). It was to be named the Northern Gateway

province of British Columbia on whether environmental or economic prosperity was more
important, but the country of Canadaas a whole. Although the name Northern Gateway is well
known in many Western Canadian households, few truly know the details of what this project
entails. Many environmentalists and economists (Mortillara, Nicole, Global News, 2014) debate
the benefits and the negative impacts that this pipeline will have on Canadians and Canadian
society. Others, though, are trying to understand what steps are being taken to ensure
environmental sustainability during construction, and for the many years after its projected
completion. This multi billion dollar project has many vocal opposers, and a seemingly equal
amount of environmental risks that accompanies it, all adding up to the general consensus that this

Spike Jonze s recent movie her takes place in a future LA, but not one that you would expect,
having most popular visions of the future being dark and dystopian. The streets are clean and the
people are happy. Everything is basked in a pastel like glow, feeling nostalgically retro.
Technology is used to their advantage for convenience, but has not overtaken their lives and
created a society of anti social recluses. Jonze s vision of the future is decidedly positive and a
refreshing take on what humanity can do if they make the right choices. Enter Theodore, the
protagonist who has separated from his wife in the past year. He is a depressed, hopeful romantic
clinging onto the thought that his wife will change her mind and come back to him, evident in his
reluctance to sign his divorce papers. While walking down the street one day he notices an

Personal Reflection Of The Body
The ninth field exercise asked us to focus on the concept of bodies and how we present them to
society. I visited a Walmart and went to the personal care/hygiene section. While mapping the
store, I noticed that although the placement of most of the products made sense, the layout of the
store was a little strange. The first rows of makeup were at a strange angle, but the next couple
of rows were parallel to the rest of the rows in the store. I could not tell why they were angled that
way, as it seemed like it was just wasting space.
The personal care section seemed to into two categories: necessary health items and cosmetic
items. The first section I looked at was the health items. For the most part, they were all located
near each other. I noticed they had eye drops and contact solution next to each other, which are
meant to correct vision and dryness issues in the eyes. They also had foot gel inserts at the end of
the aisle, which I thought was an odd place to put them. These are used to help with foot and arch
support. In the opposite aisle there were baby shampoos and soaps, to aid in cleaning babies. The

Legacies Of Displacement Of The United States
Legacies of displacement When European imperialists moved into a colony, many did not pay
attention to the Indigenous peoples of the land and their needs, especially those that were
centered around their relationship with the land. As a result, when Europeans needed land for
settlements, railways, lumbering, mining, and large plantations, the Europeans displaced
Indigenous peoples from their home and they ended up damaging a lot of their traditions and
cultures, something that is still noticeable today. Additionally, when the European government
made boundaries in a foreign country, they completely ignored the pre existing boundaries of
the indigenous people and their communities. The colonizer s disregard for the Indigenous
people s lives, beliefs, and traditions left legacies of civil war, poverty, and starvation. Cultures
and communities were also destroyed by the displacement. Legacies of Migration During the
late 19th century and early 20th century millions of people migrated from a home country of a
European empire to another colony, occasionally from a colony to another colony. These
migrants were fleeing in hopes of better opportunities and a chance to move away from conflicts
back at home. The potato famine was also a major reason why numerous people, especially the
Irish, moved to colonies overseas. From 1871 to 1914, 30 million people moved from Europe to
United States, Canada, New Zealand, South America, and so on. Few of those people were

Job Right After High School
Moving out is something that every teen dreams of doing once they are out of high school. Once
they are out of high school and met with reality, they realize that it s hard moving out right after
high school. This project has helped me open my eyes to what would happen.
Finding a job right after high school in Porterville was a struggle because most jobs require going
through college. I also wanted a job that would provide me with enough money to live alone and
support how I live, but that was a struggle. Houses were expensive, along with the fact that most
well paid jobs required more than I would have been able to offer.
After I have researched all of the prices for things such as a house, car, utilities, etc, I discovered
that the

Kathy s Dynamic Characters
When reading a novel, readers are typically more engaged in novels that capitalize on literary
elements. In the art of writing novels, many authors, knowingly, capitalize one dynamic aspect of
literature known as point of view. Having a change in the point of view forces the reader to pay
closer attention to the words being read and, as a result, they more fully immerse themselves in the
story. Using a changing point of view also allows for the development of complex characters.
Developing complex characters is crucial to the formation of an engaging story. Without a dynamic
characterthere is perceived to be no resolution or closure to a novel. By presenting and involving a

Kathy initially believed that Hailsham was ideal for the students. Also, that love was a myth.
Her belief that Hailsham was the best place for the students changed when she went to the
cottages. At the cottages, Kathy discovered that there was more to life than being a carer and
donator. She saw the people living normal lives and working in careers that they loved, with
people that the loved. She then formed the opinion that those people were the best off. The
second thing she learned is that love is not just a myth. Kathy initially doubted the existence of
love saying, You say you re sure? Sure that you re in love? How can you know it? You think love
is so simple? (Ishiguro 231). Because Ruth kept her and Tommy apart, Kathy had never been
with the one she loved. Once she was with Tommy she realized that love is real and that she was
in love with Tommy. Many of the beliefs Kathy gained were similar to those believed by today s

Stein And Stryker Summary
Stein and Stryker respond to two important challenges within the field: Stein responds to the
struggle of finding a methodology of historiography that allows for a distinction to be drawn
between popular conceptions and lived experiences of sex, gender, sexuality, love, marriage and
family, while Stryker unravels the complexity of the register of the discourse, specifically when
defining the taxonomies of gender, sex and sexuality.
The former is significant because given that sexuality and sex were considered to be parts of the
private sphere of the lives of individuals, it is hard to find reliable, primary sources on which to
base a historical timeline on. In addition, finding sources originating from both institutions of power
and individuals

Internet Sexual Addiction
Internet Sexual Addiction
It seems that the Internet has become an ever growing part in numerous areas of the everyday
lives of people. One area that is worthy of further study involves sexual addiction and how it is
related with too much use of the Internet. Some scholars allege that sociopaths are starting to
emerge online and it has been dubbed as technological addictions . This article looks at Internet
addiction with respect to excessive sexual behavior. It includes discussions of the notion of
addiction to sex and whether the entire notion is viable. This will be achieved through the
assessment of the small quantity of available empirical data. It also concludes that sex on the
Internet is a new form of expression that may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then again, there is still the argument regarding the most apt term to describe the condition of
individuals with extreme sexual behavior including sexual addiction (Carnes, 1983), sexual
impulsivity (Barth Kinder, 1987), sexual compulsion (Coleman, 1986), and non paraphilia related
conditions (Kafka, 1993). Sexual addiction has been defined by Carnes (1999) as any form of
compulsive behavior that is sex related and obstructs a normal life and eventually becomes
uncontrollable, although he has also referred to it as a pathological affiliation with an experience
that alters the mood (Carnes, 1983). By investigating the psychological motive behind addiction,
there seems to be three fundamental classifications: fantasy addictions (sexual activities that break
away from mundane reality), satiation addictions (sexual activities that ease discomfort and
tension), and arousal addictions (sexual activities that thrill and stimulate).Sexual behavior has the
ability to encompass all these three classifications of sexual addiction. It is difficult to determine
the level of sexual addiction though approximations vary from three percent to six percent of the
population (Carnes, 1999). In addition, studies show that there exists a high association between
childhood abuse and addiction to sex in adulthood, and it is very common for a sex addict to have
gone through significant levels of sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse. Socio demographic
factors are distorted by

Our Secret Susan Griffin Analysis
Susan Griffin uses a passage in her essay Our Secret to describe the experiences of a woman who
survived the Holocaust. She writes that at the time, World War II had not yet started, nor the mass
arrests or many of the other events that led to the outbreak of persecution of the Jewish peoples.
She writes that this woman, then just a girl, found herself in a group of children who were
tormenting her young friend for being Jewish. She joined them, afraid to be isolated, and her
mother immediately caught her and reprimanded her. In a way, this single story represents both
metaphors that Griffin used in her essay to describe human interaction the connectedness of the
biological cellular system, and German guided missiles and their vicious, pitiless destruction of
their victims.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone knows someone, and that someone knows someone else. Even in isolation, one still has
past connections, whether with forgotten friends, deceased relatives, or estranged parents or
children. Sometimes these connections are infinitely intricate; the delicate dance between fussy in
laws, or the deep emotional bond between a mother and her children. Sometimes they are more
casual; insults tossed between old friends with no venom to the words, or the mutual acceptance of
the we must work together, but that doesn t mean I have to like it relationship between annoyed co

between the pieces and parts of a cell. But unlike a spiderweb or a cell, we do not know every
individual strand of our connections, just as the girl in Griffin s essay does not know every

children are connected through their friendship, through their heritage, and through hundreds or

Justice vs. Morality in Measure for Measure and Merchant of Venice
There are many similarities shared between Shakespeare s plays, Measure for Measure , and The
Merchant of Venice . The underlying theme of each work is well defined by the phrase Justice
without the temperance of mercy, is power misused . I will support this claim by drawing upon
some of the characters and situations that are consistent in each story.
In each story a man s life depends on the interpretation, and sanctioning of justice. In the, Merchant
of Venice, Antonio (who I believe represents mercy), had sealed a bond with Shylock offering a
pound of his flesh for the loan of three thousand ducats. Unfortunately he forfeits this bond,

My purse, my person, my extremist means, Lie all unlock d to your occasions. . Cladio too acted
out of love and devotion to the woman he meant for his wife, yet didn t hold the papers for.
In both situations cases are made not necessarily to debunk justice, however instead to allow for
judgment interwoven with mercy. For Antonio s sake Portia (acting as Balthazar), offers
Shylock a plea of humanity, (Merchant IV,i) The quality of mercy is not strain d,... Tis
mightiest in the mightiest... It is enthroned in the heart of kings, It is an attribute to God
himself... , yet none of this causes Shylock to sway from his original position, (Merchant IV,i)

Measure it was Isabella attempting to soften the heart of Angelo, (Measure II,ii) ... Go to your
bosom, Knock there, and ask your heart what it doth know That s like my brother s fault... . Now
the plot in this story is much thicker, and Angelo had another agenda (i.e.. getting Isabella in bed),
her plea s ended with the same result as those of Portia, (Measure II,iv) Nay, but hear me, Your
sense pursues not mine... , Then must your brother die .
In both situations there is a strong, and legitimate case for either argument. On the one hand you

Hiv, Or Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Question 1
HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, attacks the human immune system and greatly weakens
the body s ability to fight foreign invaders and infection. HIV first demanded notice in the early
1980s in the United States in homosexual men displaying illnesses like Pneumocystis carinii
pneumonia and Kaposi s sarcoma. The disease was soon observed in IV drug users, hemophiliacs,
and blood transfusion recipients, but became publicized as a gay disease, nicknamed by the media
as GRID, or Gay Related Immuno Deficiency. It was later renamed AIDS, or Acquired Immuno
Deficiency Syndrome, in September of 1982. Before the true cause of the disease had been
discovered, it had killed countless people and received immense press coverage, and the infection
rate was rampant, because the cause was unknown and thus no treatment method could be
developed.
Finally, in 1983, two separate research teams, lead by Robert Gallo and Luc Montagnier of the
Pasteur Institute in isolated a retrovirus that was the true infectious agent responsible for the
development of AIDS. Gallo s team named the virus HTLV III and Montagnier s team coined it as
LAV, or lymphadenopathy associated virus. Later, it was discovered that the two viruses were
exactly the same; it was renamed as Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and Gallo and Montagnier
now share the credit its discovery.
Although HIV/AIDS wasn t noticed in the United States until the 1980s and didn t have an
identified cause until 1983, the virus and

The key component of any sacrifice, according to Girard, isthis scapegoat the sacrificial substitute.
This substitutemetonymically stands in for the member of the community who isresponsible for
the violence. Thus the scapegoat plays atheatrical role that requires a degree of dissimulation. First,
thescapegoat must both vaguely resemble and considerably differ fromthe subject it replaces. The
ambiguous characteristics of thesacrificial substitute ensures that because of its similarity tothe
instigator of the unrest, violence is actually contained. Onthe other hand, the dissimilarity of the

Constructivism Research Paper
I chose the topic of Constructivism because I know absolutely nothing of it. This lack of
knowledge is compounded by the fact there isn t information in out text book about the movement!
The gauntlet was down and the challenge accepted: I would find all I could on Constructivism!
When the Bolsheviks came into power during the October Revolution of 1917 in what is modern
day Russia, there was an evolution going on that wasn t entirely political. Constructivism would be
considered the last modern art movement in Russia but would also be the most influential.
Constructivism was highly influenced by both Cubism and Futurism, with heavy emphasis on
abstraction and the purity of geometric forms, much like Suprematism. Russian painter and
architect Vladimir Tatlin founded the movement, although never considered himself a
Constructivist but rather a Productivist, by creating sculptural constructions. He made his
assemblages out of industrial materials such as wood, plaster, glass, and metal. The social and
political ideals of Tatlin and that of the Russian avant garde were in alignment with the Russian
populace during the revolution. Tatlin lived under state sponsored agendas for art and for the most

Archaeology has proved the historicity of the Trojan War. Discuss

Introduction
The Trojan Warand its characters are detailed in the writings of Homer, Vergil, Dante and many
others. It is a fantastical tale of a decade long siege of a powerful city by a massive pan hellenic
force. However, even though it has proved to be such a rich source of inspiration for writers, poets

These incidents of divine intervention were added in order to add further drama and emphasise the
scale of the struggle for victory.
I personally think that Heroditus version of the Trojan War is the closest to the truth. When he was
writing his Histories he had access to sources we did not, like the priests he mentioned in the above
quotation. His version of events, though it may not be completely accurate, is highly feasible and
fits with our existing knowledge of the Mycenaean period.
Archaeological evidence
If Homer s writings are central to our understanding of the Trojan War, so are Heinrich Schliemann
s digs. His name is synonymous with Troy. Fascinated with Homer, he made it his mission to
discover Troy, and eventually did. However, his problems with convincing his fellow academics
and archaeologists that he had indeed Troy is similar to the problem we have with defining what
the Trojan War actually is. Homer s Trojan War could not have possibly happened as it is laid out
in the Iliad and the Odyssey. There are jarring incongruities between what happens in his epics, and
what happened in that period of Greek history.
In like manner, if Apollo vouchsafe me glory and I slay your champion, I will strip him of his
armour and take it to the city of Ilius, where I will hang it in the temple of Apollo, but I will give
up his body, that the Achaeans may bury him at their ships, and the build him a mound by the wide

The Honor of Sir Galahad
The knights of King Arthur s time were not only brave, but they were righteous, gallant, and
faithful. In King Arthur s time, chivalry was everything. Knights were expected to do battle, be
religious, and be respectful to women. One such knight was Sir Galahad. He was the son of Lancelot
and Elaine of Corbenic and became a knight at King Arthur s Round Table. The story of Sir
Galahad was shared in The Quest of the Holy Grail from the Middle Ages. It told how Galahad
first came to King Arthur s Round Table, and how despite being brought up by nuns, he was known
as a courteous and chivalrous knight. During the medieval era, chivalry was a very important part
of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one else had been able to do that. It was said that only the world s best knight could pull out
the sword. So he pleased the king. King Arthur proclaimed him to be the greatest knight and
invited Galahad to become a Knight of the Round Table. Sir Galahad was shown to have moral
purity by being a trustful, noble leader and putting other people over himself. Because of
Galahad s moral purity and because he was able to pull the sword from the stone so easily, the
King asked him to find the Holy Grail. The King said, If he be indeed the one for whom we have
waited to bring to a close the adventures of the Holy Grail, no man has ever met with greater joy
than he shall have of us. (Matarasso) The actions of Galahad and what was said about him show
that he pleased the court and the King. He had possessed many chivalric attributes including
courtliness and moral purity.
These attributes of courtliness and moral purity were very important in the Medieval society.
Chivalry is the representative code for the conduct of the knights on the battlefield, involvement in
religion, as well as a concept of warfare (History Professor Nick Smith), Galahad represented
chivalry for the reason that he was one of King Arthur s favorite knights and had expectations for
many great descendants. In the Arthurian stories, Galahad was well known

Four Religious Sects
During the time when Jesus walked on Earth, the Jewish people were divided into many
different religious sects. The four most well known sects were known as the Pharisees, the
Sadducees, the Zealots, and the Essenes. The major differentiating factor among these sects was
their views of what the Messiah foretold by the Prophets would be like. The Sadducees were the
aristocrats of ancients Israel, and filled the positions of priests and lawmakers. They also held the
majority of seats on the Sanhedrin. Due to their desire to keep their political power, the Sadducees
were the only Jewish sect that fully cooperated with the Romans. The Sadducees were also the most
conservative religious sect, believing that only the Torah was inspired, and rejecting the Nebiim and

Many of the Apostles were former Pharisees, most notably the Apostle Paul. Unlike the Sadducees,
the Pharisees believed in divine judgment, angels, and the value of spiritual practices. They
developed a very unique interpretation of the Mosaic Law, adding dozens of new laws to them. As
such, they believed that the Messiah would enforce their interpretation of the law. The Pharisees
are notably the only first century Jewish sect that still exists to this day. By far, the most radical
sect of first century Judaism was the Zealots. The Zealots were a militaristic group who on multiple
occasions attempted to stage a revolution against the Roman occupation. Their attempts all ended in
failure, however, and eventually caused the Roman army to destroy Jerusalem in AD 70. One of
Jesus disciples, Simon the Canaanite (not to be confused with Simon Peter) was part of the Zealot
movement, and it is believed that Judas Iscariot was also one. In keeping with their violent mindset,
the Zealots thought that the Messiah would be a great warrior that would lead them in their

  • 2. The Pre Cide Hamete Deflationist Character Of Cervantes s... 1 All citations from Don Quixote I II come from the following edition of the book: Cervantes, Miguel. Don Quijote de La Mancha. Ed. Francisco Rico. Instituto Cervantes: Barcelona, 1998. Print. 2 In this sense, the role of the pre Cide Hamete deflationist character of Cervantes s authorship of/in Don Quixote I II as hinted at in the late stages of this prologue and subsequently throughout the book, is to be understood as part of his strategy to insists on the importance of linguistic self awareness through the deployment of the self reflective narrative technique, e.g. by warning us that the poems of praise featuring in his book are counterfeit, but including them nevertheless. 3 Born in 1547, he struggled throughout his entire life, plus upon his enrollment as a soldier, he was badly wounded in The Battle of Lepanto, his subsequent capture by the Turks earning him a five year period of imprisonment, not to mention that his request to emigrate to America was twice turned down and he lived in really precarious conditions during his writing of Don Quixote Part I. 4 This approach is much satirized by Cervantes in Los baГ±os de Argel, La Gran Sultana, La Eleccion de los Alcaldes de Aganzo (1615) and of course, Don Quixote I II. As Zizek claims, what bothers us in the Other (the non Christian) is that he appears to entertain a privileged relationship to the object. The other either possesses the object treasure, having snatched it away from us (which is why we don t have it), or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Speech On Child Labor So..What is child labor? Child labor is children basically being slaves for other people. Children who are involved in child labor are sold by their parents to other companies. Adults would not be considered people who are in child labor because they are grown adults. They work in fields and factories but mostly factories. Sometimes they work in gold mines but with no safety equipment whatsoever. These children work all day and not like you think which is maybe 3 hours. They spend countless hours which I doubt you would even guess working in those fields, Factories and gold mines. This segment will teach you all about childlaborand what effects it has on these children. In this essay you will learn about Child Labor and how it affects different children They are doing work ... But that is what set Activists wondering about child labor and what they can do to prevent it from happening again. This became now a worldwide issue and eventually Craig Kielburger heard about the problem and he figured out how he could solve it. He eventually started a organization that helped kids in child labor. He eventually got a success and was able to help other kids in child labor. All of this just started because of the shooting. Right now Child Labor is a International problem and it is trying to be stopped in many countries. We do not child labor because it is a very sad thing to deal with and we do have sympathy for what those children are going through and how much they have to work. They are not just doing chores, they are doing labor. Now let us get into more about the mines that the children do work in. The mines that the children in child labor work in are very poisonous. They are unlicensed but they still force the children who do not wear the proper safety equipment to work in the mines and to mine the gold. The reason of the poison in the mines is because of Mercury which is a very deadly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I spent hours looking at the keys, and I explored different methods to make unique sounds. I was required to take electives the first semester; I chose to take psychology. My first essay demonstrated the psychological dynamics of music therapy. As I studied psychologymore in depth, the concepts paralleled those I studied in music theory. I began to examine different theoretical approaches to understand various aspects of behavior. My interest in music as a profession waned; I was obsessed with how the mind works and I decided to change my major to psychology. Throughout my undergraduate studies at Brooklyn ... • 5. The Book Of Daniel Although it has not always been recognized as management, management has been around since the beginning of human kind. Management functions can even be seen in the Bible. In the book of Daniel, Daniel is seen using the four management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Planning Through careful planning, Daniel was given permission to not defile himself with the portion of the king s meat, nor with his wine. Daniel, a man of the Lord, had purposed in his heart to obey the Lord. He knew that if he ate of the king s meat, and drank of the king s wine that the Lord would not be pleased. Daniel made a request to the prince of the eunuchs to be excused from eating the king s meat. Daniel 1:8 says, But Daniel purposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They had achieved a fairer and fatter countenance than those that ate of the king s meat. Then Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah went before the king and proved to the king that they were far superior than all the other men that stood before the king as stated in Daniel 1:19 20, And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. Daniel used the controlling function when he outperformed all the other men. Application: I can apply this function by comparing my team to the other teams around me. By comparing my team to other teams, I can asses and fix the areas I need to improve in by comparing my team to other teams. Also, I can observes the areas that I have been successful in and continue doing what I am doing. Daniel is seen using the four management functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. • 6. The Issue Of Asylum Seekers While the issue of asylum seekers has mainly challenged Australia s political power and resources, the debate is mostly ethical and putting human dignity first is integral. Whilst both political parties have very similar policies in regards to the topical issues, which are in essence going partially against the Church s stance and human dignity. Australiahas the economy, land, low population and living style to support more asylum seekers/refugees, especially when we have a ranking of 48 in the world on the scale of how many refugees we currently have accepted. With both political parties having fairly similar opinions on the refugee situation, only having slight differences, only a few differences separate the two, with labor wanting to increase the refugee intake per year to almost double of what the coalition currently has in place which is 13,750 and labor plan to raise it up to 27,000. (Australian Labor Party) Also labor also plans to reinstate the UN s refugee convention, which Abbott is currently undermining, which is technically international law. In one way this breach of international law Abbot has broken is refusing to take refugees that has been allocated to Australia by the UN, for it is overstepping the coalitions humanitarian intake policy. Also labor will work to implement a system to release the children from off shore and on shore detention centres. Do studies of neurological disorders support the claim that specific language functions are associated with distinct neural structures? Student ID: 12926466 Studying language in terms of its localization of function has proven to be a challenging task. Unlike other cognitive processes such as perception, attention and memory, language research faces the constraint of studying merely human beings. Even though other types of mammals and birds also develop some form of communication systems their complexity is not even close to that of the human language. Facing these limitation, early researches that have embarked on the task to clarify the neural mechanisms associated with language devised a study field called Neurolinguistics. ... This essay will focus on the extent to which studies of neurological disorders support the claim that distinct neural structures underline specific language functions and look into some of the most valued contributions made by scientists studying this field. Pierre Paul Broca was one of the earliest and most influential physicians and anatomists of his time, who in the 1860s conducted some of the first work on the effects of brain damage on behaviour (Harley, 2008). In 1861 Broca worked as a surgeon in BicГЄtre general infirmary, where on 11th April, a 50 year old patient called Leborgne was transported from the main hospital of BicГЄtre, suffering from diffuse gangrenous inflammation of the entire right inferior limb (Broca, 1861). Leborgne was admitted to the hospital at the age of twenty one being subject to epileptic attacks and exhibiting lack of ability to say anything else except the word tan . Table 3 shows our dependent variable, should the government improve standard of living, unfortunately there was a large number of missing data which is totaled to 900 respondents. Lastly, the control variable, age, in Table 5, shows that there were only 9 missing responses for this variable. A missing response could mean that an individual refused to answer, did not know, or are inapplicable (IAP). As the dependent variable showed a large number of missing data, almost all of that missing data was IAP. The three variables each have their on unique aspect to them, but they are rather straight forward. Age and total family income are very concrete and definite answers given by a respondent, as the questions are straightforward. Should the government improve standard of living, on the other hand, is a little different. This variable, HELPPOOR, is based on attitude and must be though about a little more than the others. Themes of jealousy, responsibility and guilt are also mixed in with the religious themes. Religions and ideals clash through the course of the novel. Shikibu focused on the two religions of Buddhism and Shinto. Buddhism represents the modern day religion in the novel and Shinto is viewed as the old religion. • 10. Asian Family Traditions Research Paper Tradition seems to be something you have to follow and strive to accomplish. No one can follow tradition since there are obstacles. My family has always been in my eyes a typical, Asian family. One day a woman came up to me and my cousins, and asked if we were related. You see, I thought my family was just average and Asian because that was what we were mentally. But physically it was different. My cousins Raymond, Daniella, my little brother Richard and I all looked Asian. My other cousins Cindy and Natalie looked Black. Not many Asian families look like this. They go with the stereotype of black hair, brown eyes and, yellow skin. We, were not the ideal family. This originates from my grandmother. Roulette has thirty eight compartments where 1 36 are numbered and are colored either black or red. The remaining two are numbered 0 and 00 and are colored green. People place their bets by placing their chips into their spots on the roulette table. Then the dealer spins the wheel and drops a ball onto that spinning wheel and then the ball stops in one of the compartments. The compartment that the ball lands in is the compartment on the table that wins as well. Example: If someone bets $10 worth of chips onto number 8 compartment on the roulette compartment and then the ball lands on the number 8 slot on the wheel then the person gets $10 35 = $350. • 12. Philip Larkin s Faith Healing Essay How typical in terms of subject, theme, structure and versification is Faith Healing by Larkin? Philip Larkin s Faith Healing In 1964, Philip Larkin published his third book of poetry, entitled The Whitsun Weddings . One of the many critically acclaimed poems was Faith Healing . In this essay, I intend to explore how typical this poem is in terms of subject, theme, structure and versification. In Faith Healing, women flock to an American Faith Healer for a blessing. The persona of the poem is written from an outsider s point of view, looking in at this sight. Faith Healing is divided into three stanzas, each of ten lines. Iambic pentameter is used to give 5 major stresses to each of the 10 lines. The three stanzas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By now, all s wrong . It is interesting to note that with all 3 of these poems, Larkin adopts a personal persona. He is omniscient; in Mr Bleaney, it is as though he is a man looking for accommodation; in Here, it is as though he is the one on a journey and in Faith Healing, he is present, observing this spectacle. Therefore, I feel that Mr Bleaney and Here are closely linked to Faith Healing in terms of structure and versification. Faith Healing is an ambiguous poem that seems critical of religion. At the start of the poem, many flock to the Faith Healer but by the third stanza, the 20 seconds with the American seem to have ruined their lives. They have had their true feelings and emotions unlocked and have realised that they have never really been loved. An immense slackening ache. Spreads slowly through them . The Faith Healer thaws these emotions and we see the women suffer a sense of real loneliness and depression as this reality dawns. This strongly correlates with the theme in Mr Bleaney, a poem exploring loneliness and the fear in which it evokes. In the poem, we are told of Mr Bleaney s old room that is cheap and not cared for. The persona explores Bleaney s life. Ironically, he finds he can identify with him in some respects. So it happens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Command Relationships Command relationships preserve the preeminence of civil authorities in their domains of obligation while enabling the full utilization of military forces as permitted by the United States Constitution, Congressional law, and Presidential directives (Joint Chiefs of Staff, 2013). All United States military forces within respective branches operate under a single commander establishing a successive authority structure. Army command relationships define superior and subordinate relationships between unit commanders. By stipulating a chain of command, command relationships amalgamates effort and enable commanders to use subordinate forces with extreme flexibility. • 16. Training As A Skilled Baseball Player Practice makes perfect, however, there are skills which require intensive training in order to be a skilled baseball player. Practice makes perfect means the more you do something, the better you will become at it. There are three essential techniques of training to develop my skills as a baseball player: hitting a baseball, catching a fly ball, and running the bases. When I began to playlittle league baseball at the age of nine, everything was tough. It took me three years to master these skills. Perfection is almost impossible to accomplish, but perfection is impossible without practice. In my first year, my hitting was terrible and I had only one hit in twenty games. During the off season, however, I took a lot of time to practice on hitting on the baseball field, at the batting cage, and with a batting tee with my head coach. My head coach wanted me to... • 17. The Village Blacksmith, The Crowd Of Wild Olive What is human dignity? We often ask ourselves this question as we grow up, experience things, and know what is in the world. As we ask this question other questions arise as such, is it earned, invented, or intrinsic? I believe it depends on the situation, but the following stories bring up each of these questions and deliver different ways of delivering the ideas of humandignitybeing earned, invented, or intrinsic. The Village Blacksmith, The Crowd of Wild Olive, Narrative of the life of Fredrick Douglas all bring up these points and others as well as how different life situations relate to human dignity. The Village Blacksmith is a poem about a man that works very hard each day. He is dirty and sweaty from his hard work. The characters arms are compared to a machine of sorts when the author says, The smith a mighty man is he, With large and sinewy hands; And the muscles of his brawny arms Are strong as iron bands. (596). Although rough, and hardworking the story shows that the man has human dignity when he hears his daughter singing in church and it reminds him of his wife who has passed away and begins to tear up. He wipes away his tears with his rough hard working hands. In my opinion, this shows that even though a man is rough, hard working, and tough he can still have the human dignity to mourn his late wife and have the emotion that comes from hearing his wife s voice in his daughter, but still be able to work ... • 18. Jammu And Kashmir Conflict Jammu and Kashmir Dhruv Malhotra In the summer of 1947, millions forcefully emigrated from India to Pakistan. People were uprooted from their homeland and sent to live in Pakistan. Some would travel on foot, some in carriages, but most by Train. The trains were given a warm sending off by the officials and sent on their way. As the train reached Pakistan, the doors opened and out flowed a pool of blood. Almost everyone on the train had been massacred. One of those people was my great grandfather. Thus, due to this catastrophic and melancholic incident, escalated the great conflict between India and Pakistan, more specifically, the conflict in Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir is a state in India, that shares a border with Pakistan, and since the partition of India and Pakistan, it has been disputed land. Both countries claim the land is theirs, which has subsequently caused several wars between the two. My stance on the issue is to call for autonomy. To give Jammu and Kashmir self governance, which will let the state make the decisions rather than the two countries. It ensures peace for the people of the state, rather than wealth for either India or Pakistan. Jammu and Kashmir was originally a part of India when the conflict began, though, due to its high Muslim population, it leaned more towards Pakistan. According to The Times of India, 53% of the population of Kashmir is Muslim or of Muslim descent and wants to secede to Pakistan . However, the conflict arises because ... The study involved texts and database searches that identified keywords such as knowledge management, project integration, and corporate sustainability in order to help in the search for relevant documentation and journals for the study. The authors chose to analyze, compile and utilize 84 studies dated between the years 2004 through 2012, along with already established bibliographies on the subject matter. Historical Leader Synthesis Essay On Sir Winston Churchill Historical Leader Synthesis Essay on Sir Winston Churchill Soaked in sweat, I ran to the library to get a book on a historical leader before they were all gone. I would like to think I found a great leader, but I think one found me. As I was reading a book on great leaders of World War II, I initially focused on American leaders, but Sir Winston S. Churchill seemed fit my exact requirements. Sir Winston S. Churchill was a Visionary and Ethical Leader. In Harmon s (1991) article, he details a scene where Sir Winston Churchill is sitting around the strategy table, debating the benefits of area bombing. Area bombing is a tactic where an area is indiscriminately bombed, regardless of military objective. During the meeting Winston stood up and proclaimed, Are we beasts, are we taking this too far (Harmon, 1991, p. 3). LM03, Ethical Leadership, discusses Dr. Toner s three P s, which are principle, purpose, and people (DAF, 2014c, p. 7). To me, Winston Churchill put the three P s in the correct order when he decided to commence area bombings. He put the principle of freedom and justice before the purpose of winning the war and finally, he put the people in their proper place of third. Had he not made this decision, who knows how many more would have died. The air raids killed innocent women and children, but many others today enjoy freedom and liberty because of this decision. The war continued and as the German people became war weary, ended in 1945 due, in part, to Churchill s proper use of the three P s. Making a decision like this takes guts, resolve, and most importantly an ability to see the second and third order effects. Winston Churchill would not have made the decision to area bomb had he not known that its effect on the German people would cause them to lose their will to fight, therefore limiting the endless supply of troops Hitler seemed to be able to acquire. This, to me, is why Course 14 intertwined the critical thinking and ethical leadership modules. On Facione s scoring rubric from CF03, Critical Thinking, I would definitely have given Winston s decision to use area bombing a 4 out of 4 (DAF, 2014b, p. 24). • 37. Environmental Sustainability And Its Impact On Canadians... Nearly fourteen years ago, the Calgary based oil enterprise Enbridge announced its most controversial project yet; to build a $6.5 billion oil duct from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia (Canadian Press, 2013, para. 1). It was to be named the Northern Gateway Pipeline .Enbridge s preliminary announcement on the sixth of March, 2002, not only divided the province of British Columbia on whether environmental or economic prosperity was more important, but the country of Canadaas a whole. Although the name Northern Gateway is well known in many Western Canadian households, few truly know the details of what this project entails. Many environmentalists and economists (Mortillara, Nicole, Global News, 2014) debate the benefits and the negative impacts that this pipeline will have on Canadians and Canadian society. Others, though, are trying to understand what steps are being taken to ensure environmental sustainability during construction, and for the many years after its projected completion. This multi billion dollar project has many vocal opposers, and a seemingly equal amount of environmental risks that accompanies it, all adding up to the general consensus that this duct is not worth the economic benefits that it would produce. Enbridge estimates that 99% of the crude oil from Alberta is transported to the United States. Currently though, America s demand for imported oil is decreasing (AsiaPacific.ca/Canadian Oil), as oil exploitation in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I recently had the privilege of watching Spike Jonze s 2013 movie her. Spike Jonze s recent movie her takes place in a future LA, but not one that you would expect, having most popular visions of the future being dark and dystopian. The streets are clean and the people are happy. Everything is basked in a pastel like glow, feeling nostalgically retro. Technology is used to their advantage for convenience, but has not overtaken their lives and created a society of anti social recluses. Jonze s vision of the future is decidedly positive and a refreshing take on what humanity can do if they make the right choices. Enter Theodore, the protagonist who has separated from his wife in the past year. He is a depressed, hopeful romantic clinging onto the thought that his wife will change her mind and come back to him, evident in his reluctance to sign his divorce papers. While walking down the street one day he notices an advertisement for a new operating system named OS1, touted as being the first artificially intelligent operating system. Throughout the rest of the movie, he grows alongside Samantha (which is what the OS decided to name herself). She begins to find herself and develop wants and needs. I visited a Walmart and went to the personal care/hygiene section. While mapping the store, I noticed that although the placement of most of the products made sense, the layout of the store was a little strange. The first rows of makeup were at a strange angle, but the next couple of rows were parallel to the rest of the rows in the store. I could not tell why they were angled that way, as it seemed like it was just wasting space. The personal care section seemed to into two categories: necessary health items and cosmetic items. The first section I looked at was the health items. For the most part, they were all located near each other. I noticed they had eye drops and contact solution next to each other, which are meant to correct vision and dryness issues in the eyes. They also had foot gel inserts at the end of the aisle, which I thought was an odd place to put them. These are used to help with foot and arch support. In the opposite aisle there were baby shampoos and soaps, to aid in cleaning babies. The next aisle had toothpaste and toothbrushes. A distinguishing characteristic of the toothpastes, were the adjectives that accompanied them, such as whitening , protective , sensitive , and complete . • 42. Legacies Of Displacement Of The United States Legacies of displacement When European imperialists moved into a colony, many did not pay attention to the Indigenous peoples of the land and their needs, especially those that were centered around their relationship with the land. As a result, when Europeans needed land for settlements, railways, lumbering, mining, and large plantations, the Europeans displaced Indigenous peoples from their home and they ended up damaging a lot of their traditions and cultures, something that is still noticeable today. Additionally, when the European government made boundaries in a foreign country, they completely ignored the pre existing boundaries of the indigenous people and their communities. The colonizer s disregard for the Indigenous people s lives, beliefs, and traditions left legacies of civil war, poverty, and starvation. Cultures and communities were also destroyed by the displacement. Legacies of Migration During the late 19th century and early 20th century millions of people migrated from a home country of a European empire to another colony, occasionally from a colony to another colony. These migrants were fleeing in hopes of better opportunities and a chance to move away from conflicts back at home. The potato famine was also a major reason why numerous people, especially the Irish, moved to colonies overseas. The former is significant because given that sexuality and sex were considered to be parts of the private sphere of the lives of individuals, it is hard to find reliable, primary sources on which to base a historical timeline on. Sexual addiction has been defined by Carnes (1999) as any form of compulsive behavior that is sex related and obstructs a normal life and eventually becomes uncontrollable, although he has also referred to it as a pathological affiliation with an experience that alters the mood (Carnes, 1983). By investigating the psychological motive behind addiction, there seems to be three fundamental classifications: fantasy addictions (sexual activities that break away from mundane reality), satiation addictions (sexual activities that ease discomfort and tension), and arousal addictions (sexual activities that thrill and stimulate).Sexual behavior has the ability to encompass all these three classifications of sexual addiction. It is difficult to determine the level of sexual addiction though approximations vary from three percent to six percent of the population (Carnes, 1999). HIV first demanded notice in the early 1980s in the United States in homosexual men displaying illnesses like Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and Kaposi s sarcoma. The disease was soon observed in IV drug users, hemophiliacs, and blood transfusion recipients, but became publicized as a gay disease, nicknamed by the media as GRID, or Gay Related Immuno Deficiency. It was later renamed AIDS, or Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome, in September of 1982. Before the true cause of the disease had been discovered, it had killed countless people and received immense press coverage, and the infection rate was rampant, because the cause was unknown and thus no treatment method could be developed. Finally, in 1983, two separate research teams, lead by Robert Gallo and Luc Montagnier of the Pasteur Institute in isolated a retrovirus that was the true infectious agent responsible for the development of AIDS. Gallo s team named the virus HTLV III and Montagnier s team coined it as LAV, or lymphadenopathy associated virus.
