More recently, the food trend has turned into pre heated or pre cooked meals to take away
(Schlosser, 2001).
In recent years, the fast food industry has been facing significant challenges due to the increase in
the consumer awareness on the production process and health concerns. The consumer awareness
on health factors and the marketers detecting the possibility of change in the consumer taste have
led the firms to expand their product lines in drinks more healthy foods (Schlosser, 2001). In other
words, the industry is fighting saturation by creating a much more diverse variety of offerings.
2What are Organic Foods?
The changes in the consumer taste and the increase in the consumer awareness in eating healthy
products and organic foods have increased immensely in the past few years throughout the whole
world as well as the UK (BBC, 2001).
To have a healthy life, eating organic and healthy is a great way to start. The confusion among the
consumers is due to lack of information towards nutrition and individually the amount and what the
body needs. It is not only going to a shop and purchasing fruits, vegetables, whole grains etc. but
being aware of how these goods are grown raised and how they would influence the individual s
health and the environment.
The expression organic denotes the way agricultural products are grown and processed (Fromartz,
2006). Certain requirements should be met in order for a product to get the label organic such as

Obeying The Law Research Paper
Obeying the law, or rules is very important. There are many rules you need to follow. The law
that I think is very important, is that children, and students have to go to school. It is a state law. I
think it is fair, because we are so much smarter then we would be if we didn t go to school. We
students/cadets get to go to school. People all arround the world eather can t go to school, or can t
afford it. We are so lucky. Shool might not be fun, but it will help us in the long run. We will have
an education, we can then get a degree, then we can get a job and afford all kinds of things. At
school we can make frinds, and learn to do things we have never done before, we can learn respect,
because in some families the parents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

work on papper. The adults can make it that way if they wanted to, but they don t they want to
make it fun for us, and they make fun things for us to do to learn the subjet. The adults want us
too feel comfrontable. School is a place for us to get knowledge and learn new things. Ya there
might be a few subjects that studets do not like, but there are also subjets students love. Friends
will usually be there unless they have something going on. For instance: they are sick, or they
are bussy doing something or they are on vacation. Sometimes school just doesn t work out for
some students. They just have to work harder than others. Something most people learn at or
from school is Work smarter not harder . When people are having trouble they will ask for help, or
sometimes they will give up. Giving up is never good. You can loose friends, grades go down, and
life will just get harder. School is supposed to help you in all these ways, like: with your brains, and
problems in life, or how to controle them. School is fun for most people, the people that do well
the other people are just always crabby, because life just sucks. School does bring good people out
of their shells, and they get good jobs and degrees. School means great

Rhetorical Analysis Lessons
Strength does not lie in numbers, but rather in accumulated experiences. Some people choose to
live in such a way that every fathomable opportunity is seized, while others bow down to grief and
avoid the gift of pleasure out of pure fear. In Sara Teasdale s poem Lessons , she lyrically explores
the idea that individuals have a great bounty of life experiences to enjoy. Life is too short and this
earth is too plentiful to not take advantage of every unusual and thrilling opportunity, including
understanding and facing our rawest emotions. Through diction and personification, Teasdale
iterates that opposed to shrinking away from moments in time that may make us uncomfortable,
individuals should embrace what they feel and what beauty this earth

Themes InBreaking Dawn, By Stephenie Meyer
In the book Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer there are many differences and similarities to
this other book The Elite by Kiera Cass. There are the difference of themes and the setting and the
characters in each book. They are shown by using dialogue and the description in the seperate
books. The book Breaking Dawn is the story that shows love between Bella and Edward only
growing deeper and more meaningful. In the book The Elite there is the main characterAmerica
Singer and how she is know really showing her true emotion to Maxon the prince.
During Breaking Dawn when you first start to read it, you know that it is a fantasy book and
this is something that is not true in The Elite, this book is based on the idea of Kings and
Queens but this is something that is more realistic and is may happen. But in some sense you
could say that this is a similarity and something that it true between each of the books. But one
of the many similarities is the strong theme in each of the books, that theme is love and love is
the one thing that almost of the characters in the book experience. Each of the characters are able
to feel the deep emotion that love holds. But the love is also different. It is shared between
different people and it is a different meaning to each person in each of the books. The Elite shows
the love between 6 girls and one man. Breaking Dawn, the love is between Bella and Edward but
then is basically projected to other characters in the book. These characters are able to witness and
understand how important the main characters of each book are valuable to each other.
The setting in each of the books really shows how the importance of symbols makes the setting
very important. The symbols that each of the setting holds is also shown by the characters and how
they are able to add to the setting and the symbolism. In each book the symbol is used a a gift to
each of the main characters. In The Elite America is given a bracelet. This bracelet symbolizes
there love and also there conflicts. When having one of their many conflict America shows that
should doesn t really care but in a way she also shows that even without having that bracelet she still
loves Maxon and she still thinks about him, without

The Cotton Manufacture In Great Britain
English textile factories were very bad and unhealthy for the health of working class families. In
the book History of the Cotton Manufacture in Great Britain it says the children who labour in
mills are victims of frightful oppression and killing toil. They are often cruelly beaten by the
spinners of the overlookers that their feeble limbs become distorted by continual standing and
stooping and they grow up cripples. If indeed, they are not hurried into premature grave. This quote
proves that they are being treated badly. This quote also proves that they are unhealthy. Also
accidents were very admitted to the infirmary, though the children s hands and arms having been
caught in the machinery in many instances a finger or two might be lost. ... Show more content on

committee he says I have damaged lungs, my leg functions do not function properly and will
not support the weight of my bones. Joseph Hebergam then says he is going to die soon and that
it was caused by the dust in the factories and from overwork and insufficient diet. That proves
that it is not clean and that its dusty. It also shows that it is unhealthy because they are
overworking him when he is tired. Even though they weren t treated correctly and overworked,

Re-Constructive Surgery And Aesthetic Surgery
Aesthetic and Re constructive Surgery
These are two surgical specialties that involve the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the
human body. Re constructive surgery aims to reconstruct a part of the body or improve its
functioning and Aesthetic surgery aims at improving the appearance of it.
Re constructive surgeons use these surgical techniques to manage increasingly complex wounds
like severe burns and to grow additional bone, skin or other tissues. This ranges from very simple
techniques such as primary closure and dressings to more complex skin grafts, tissue expansion
and free flaps. It provides the body with near perfect match in color and texture.

Visual Media s Influence on Society
Information is easily accessible to Americans through the media. Americans can get this
information from print, audio, visual, and online. For eight to eighteen year olds, media in some
form or fashion normally takes up seven and a half hours of each day. Of those seven and a half
hours, most is spent in front of the television. Along with watching TV, video games and use of
computers consume an hour for each (Media, Body Image, and Eating Disorders). Even though
there are many contributing factors, visual mass media has a negative influence on American

The National Eating Disorders Association states that mass media are a leading source for the issue
concerning women being dissatisfied with their own body.
As stated by the National Eating Disorders Association, mass media s influence is greatly
increasing. With this issue in mind in 2004, Dove created their campaign for real beauty in the
hopes of reaching women struggling with body image issues. Dove s campaign began as a way to
strike up a discussion over the true definition of beauty. Since 2004, Dove s campaign has had many
different ways of achieving this goal to reach out to those struggling with beauty. These campaigns
include counterarguments on issues including aging, thin as beautiful. Dove even made a
commercial which showed women describing themselves to an artist, and then another individual
coming in and describing that same person to the artist. Later the women got to come back in and
see the difference in the drawings, which gave them an insight to how others view them and their
true beauty. Dove conducted a study in which the results were that only four percent of the women
in the world thought of themselves as beautiful. Their research also states that nine out of ten girls
want to change at least one thing about their physical appearance (Our Research). Since their
campaign for real beauty, Dove has set a movement for self esteem. This

Her contributions to emancipation of oppressed minorities from social restraint dates were
initiated by her successful elusion from slavery in 1827 (Smith, 1951). After moving to New
York City, she embraced evangelical religion and actively engaged in moral reforms. Having
joined the Utopian Community (which was mainly based in New York), she ventured in the
preaching career, acquiring a great deal of Biblical knowledge. Her abolitionist policies were
inscribed in her entertaining and highly instructive gospel songs that she sang as a wandering
orator and famous platform figure. A year before mandatory emancipation of slaves in New
York City, Sojourner officially adopted the names Sojourner Truth in 1843. From Brawdy s
(1991) revelations, Truth proved to be a servant of the people during the Great Civil War. She
collected clothing and food for displaced populations, tramping the isolated roads of Michigan.
According to Edwards (1986), she was the first human rights activist to confront President
Abraham Lincoln at White House, where she dedicated her life and mobilized resources to the

The House On Mango Street Research Paper
Identity Crisis When one is going through life, they will try to find who they are. This can be
influenced by people around them and what they do, but they will find themselves eventually.
Sandra Cisneros shows this through Esperanza in her novella The House on Mango Street.
Esperanza through this aging and learning from her experiences. She very slowly, but very
normally learning who she is. Esperanza s negative view of herself slowly changes as she
begins to focus on her larger community and her place within it. Through this, Cisneros shows
that knowing and accepting where one comes from is an important part of growing up and
determining one s identity. Esperanza gets stunted from growing because of the people she s
around. Everybody that s around her are either much younger or much older. This is shown by
Esperanza using phrases like this kid in the vignette Our Good Day to describe people around
her (Cisneros 14). Having nothing but kids around someone is only going to stop them from
growing. Having someone that is ones age can help see what pace that person needs to be at in
order to keep up. This however, is not the case with Esperanza. The only people who she is able
to look up to are the adults in the area. This makes her want to grow up even faster then what she

Twain should be an inspiration to the masses to follow what you believe in. He incorporated
these beliefs into his writings. Further, Mark Twain covered a large range of areas in his writings
transitioning from an almost silly humorist to a serious writer who attacked his targets with much
darker view of the world. When he began, Twain was a humorist writing books like The
Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, the book that skyrocketed him to fame in 1867

Mississippi River helping his friend and ex slave escape. In his story, that was very unusual for
his time, he used the dialects of the people along the river, something unheard of in his current
era of writing. In his later years his wrote angrier and harsh works such as The Mysterious
Stranger a tale in which the devil visits an Austrian village in the Middle Ages. As Twain s career
progressed, he seemed to become increasingly removed from the humorous, cocky image of his
younger days (Gribben). Twain never

Mapping Brain Function
There were three general approaches to mapping brain functions. With extirpation, parts of the
brain are systematically destroyed to observe the subsequent behavior (Marshall Hall and Pierre
Fourens). In the clinical method, the researcher looks at the brains of people after they died who
exhibited odd behavior in life (Paul Broca). Finally, electrical stimulation of the brainand body was
used to observe the muscle twitches (Fritsch and Hitzig).
Gall was concerned with mapping brain functions from both inside and outside. When looking at
the brain from the outside, he developed cranioscopy, later known as phrenology, which proposes
that the shape of one s skull reveals intellectual or emotional characteristics. Phrenology quickly

Suleiman the Magnificent, Schmalkaldic Wars, Peace of Augsburg
1.Sacrament. A sacrament is a Christian site recognized as of particular importance and
significance. There are various views on the existence and meaning of such rites. Many Christians
consider the sacraments to be a visible symbol of the reality of god, as well as a means by which
God enacts his grace.

Magnificent, ruler of the Florentine Republic, he was elevated to the cardinalate in 1489. He is

Protestant Reformation, which began during his reign when Martin Luther (1483 1546) published

Mommy I was thirteen years old when I was forced to grow up. I don t mean I conjured up the

lost my mother to suicide when I was thirteen years old and that is enough to shift someone s

Teachings of Life Through the River Essay
My father was always a man of infinite knowledge for those willing to listen. Unbeknownst to
him, his knowledge extends beyond what he has to teach. For example, when asked how to clean
a fish, he goes through the process in great detail. From where the incision is made to de scaling
the fish, he would always emphasize the care, attention to the smallest detail. With every lesson, the
majority of his teachings show how no matter how long the task, any person will always have
enough time to finish what they set out to do. As with most aspects of life the same principles apply.
The most memorable time of my life was my father s ecstatic look when I said I would love to
learn how to fly fish. When camping as a child of eight years old, my ... Show more content on

I, of course, had never been given a decision so great nor an opportunity so bold. Seeing that my
mouth was stuck in a half opened semi circle expression, he finally picked a place for me as I was
too paralyzed to make my lips move. His words, by far, were much sweeter than any of mine could
ever be. In a stern, proud voice, he trumpeted, Let s go fly fishing in the Colorado River. Not sure
of what region he meant, my father pointed out on the map The Grand Canyon. I was beside
myself with unkempt joy. Of course, the location, by itself was only half of the excitement. My
father later elaborated further into details of the trip. He told me we would be camping on the
river s shore for an entire week. Nothing could have prepared me for this journey s unaltered beauty.
After arriving at the river s mouth, we promptly shoved off the mucky shore. Against the current,
we trekked up the powerful Colorado River, slowly, in our little tin motorboat. Eventually, we
landed in a place called Lees Ferry. In the daytime, the only beauty the great canyon had to offer
was its monolithic red walls. Towards sunset, the real beauty emerged. The bank of the river
slowly started to fill will all kinds of small insects. As each bug lit on the water, a trout
appropriately held its own place in the food chain. The river s edge soon erupted in a cacophony of
trout jumping through the surface to retrieve its meal for the evening. Simply

Bret Easton Ellis American Psycho
Bret Easton Ellis American Psycho makes many bold claims regarding the state of American culture
through the actions and personality of the main character, Patrick Bateman. Ellis uses Bateman and
his interactions with the things around him to openly ridicule the superficial consumer lifestyle of

good looking and possesses the money necessary to live an extravagant lifestyle. Everything appears

It was everywhere. In music videos, magazines, and various other forms of media. Being a
handsome and rich guy, Bateman has very little problems attracting females. He would have sex
with countless prostitutes and then Through Bateman, Ellis was calling out how sex was too
easy in the American culture. It was a game. For example there was an instance in the text where
Bateman admitted to not even knowing the name of a girl he was about to engage in sexual acts
with. While Christie takes a bath (I don t know her real name, I haven t asked, but I told her to
respond only when I call her Christie) followed by her head is within my reach, is mine to crush;
at this very moment my urge to strike out, to insult and punish her, rises then subsides (Ellis 91)
The prostitute in this instead is objectified and her only real purpose is to be Bateman s sexual
toy. He even claims that her head was his further displaying his entitled nature. Ellis is not
condoning the excessive sex and violence that occurs but instead he is examining the real world
through the eyes of a maniac. Bateman isn t just the typical maniac though. He is the American
Dream. He has all of these positive attributes but yet he is never truly satisfied nor does he really
know who he is. This is very similar to what was happening in the real world in the 1980s. The

PROBLEM STATEMENT
According to World Bank, roughly 2 billion people around the world do not have access to
formal sources of banking and financial services, or more than 50% of small and mediumsized
businesses (SMEs) worldwide lack adequate access to credit.
Despite the India s meteoric GDP growth rate (about 9%), poverty in India is still pervasive;
especially in rural areas where 70% of India s 1.2 billion population live. It is one of the fastest
growing economies in the world and yet its wealth is hardly redistributed across the population.
Nearly 70 per cent of Indian villagers do not have a bank account, and tapping them would require
multiple banking channels. There are about 73,000 such villages that have no formal banking
channel. In case of government aid, a dedicated bank personal has to travel villages to provide the

The Battle Between Commercial Software and Open-Source...
Will commercial software survive the battle with open Source software or are they already losing?
How (if at all) are the commercial software houses defending themselves?
Part 1: Basic Concepts:
Terms:
Free and open source software (FOSS) is software that is both open source software and free
software. This means that it is freely licensed to use, examine, copy, alter the source code of the
software, and the source code it self is openly shared. However, for software to be considered FOSS
it must pass a certain criteria established by the Open Source Initiative (OSI). They determine that
FOSS must have a completely free redistribution with no form of royalty or other form of a fee for
the sale (resellers) and the source code must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it falls into the distinct categories of shareware (demo or trial software where you can
download it for free but some features are restricted or to continue to use the software a payment
is required) and payware (traditional pay to use software) but not freeware (since its free). In all
cases however, the source code is hidden from the users, so that the rights holders (the software
publishers) can sell the binary executable (source code).
History:
Commercial software has been around since 1948 (when the first computer which could hold
software was created, nicknamed baby). The history of FOSS has a strong connection with the
hackers in Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These hackers in 1970s created something
ARPANET (known today as the internet). There were discussions to sell it commercially
however the university and its hackers were strongly opposed to such an idea for they had
worked with the ideology that sharing information is a virtue and they had a moral duty to provide
knowledge to the world. These early hackers stayed true to this ideology and made their software
completely free with the source code completely accessible. Richard Stallman was one of the main
people who pushed forward this ideology preventing the university to monetize the ARPANET and
the software they created.
Late in 1997 in MIT the term Open Source software was coined. The developers also founded OSI

Pollock s influence upon my work runs strictly in the process itself. Being an athlete, action is
the key to a performance. Whether its throwing a ball or swinging a bat, the relationship in the
physical nature of Pollock s process holds many similarities to the physical aspect of a sport.
This relationship is what s so appealing to me. Other forms of art confine you to standing in front
of an easle or sitting at a desk. Pollock s process on the other hand, allowed him to freely move
around the painting while gracefully and sometimes rigorously applying his paint. Just like in
sports, you have a general idea of how you want to perform but you don t always have control
over the results. Abstract expressionism allows the creator the ability to have a general notion of
what he or she wants to create but the final product may come out altered from the original idea.
In my work the similarities to the works of Pollock run in the process itself. I worked from all
angles of the page, spattering ink from an inkwell. This allowed me to control the flow of the ink,
along with the placement of it upon the page. The differences in my piece are what it mainly
possesses. Scale is probably the most noticeable. Pollock worked on a much larger scale, usually
nearing the ten feet mark. Another big difference

According to the National Institute of Mental Health (2004) signs of ADHD become noticeable
in children during their preschool and early years of school. It is estimated that 3 to 5 percent of
children have ADHD, which is roughly about 2 million children in the United States. This
means that 1 child out of a classroom that has 25 30 students in it will have ADHD. The NIMH
(2004) has stated this in their article on ADHD that Dr. Heinrich Hoffman first described it in
1845. He was a physician who wrote books on medicine and psychiatry, he also wrote books for
children. He described the disease in a book he was writing to his son, he wrote The Story of

organization is to encourage and increase recycling in California s commercial sector by creating
a mandatory commercial recycling. Many states such as Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa
and New York have established incentives for those who recycle. For those people who choose
to recycle they are awarded a deposit or a refund on any type of plastic or aluminum bottles. This
is law is known as a Bottle bill or container deposit law. Most states refund five cents per can or

John Calvin s Teachings Essay
It seems that from all of John Calvin s teachings, it s quite possible that this debate over his
doctrine of predestination has been argued more than any other in history. In this essay I will
explore Calvin s view of predestination, giving special attention to the justice of predestination.
Secondly, I will explain the purpose of election as understood by Calvin. Third, I will discuss the
purpose of reprobation.
So what is the basis of Calvin s view of predestination? It would be most simply stated that
predestination is the doctrine that before God created humankind God chose some for eternal life
and sentenced others to eternal damnation. At the core of the argument is Calvin s view of
predestination as completely unconditional in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calvin asks, How can it be consistently said that things derived from election are the cause of
election?
It is important to point out that Calvin appears to be certain of the capability of God s election.
The Israelites, God s elect people, could fall out of election because they don t have a spirit of
regeneration that would give perseverance in the covenant, until the end. Although individual
elected persons will persevere. Those God has chosen for eternal life will certainly receive it,
and those God has rejected will face destruction. What s the reasoning behind God s election of
some and rejection of others? This explanation is simple, but may require some defending, which I
intend to do. God elects and rejects so that he will be glorified. The challenge lies in the destruction
of some, not in the grace that is demonstrated. Either way, Calvin affirms that God is just to the
reprobate, that through them God s glory may be revealed.
Throughout history many people have attributed Calvin of conceptualizing an arbitrary and unjust
God. There are some that would suggest that God elects those whom, in his foreknowledge, he
knows will choose to follow God through Jesus Christ. In doing so they try to clarify and reinforce
the justice

Bear Sterns Rise and Fall
The rise and fall of Bear Stearns
Introduction
Bear Stearns, the fifth largest investment bank in US, was established as an equity trading house
in 1923 by Joseph Bear, Robert Stearns, and Harold Mayer. Its headquarters was located in New
York City with offices in the major US cities, South America, Europe, and Asia, employing more
than 13,500 people around the world. The firm survived every major crisis like the Great
Depression, World War II, the 1987 market crash, and the 9/11 terrorists attack and never had a
losing quarter in its history until December 2007, when Bear Stearns announced the first loss for
about $854 million.

1.1. Major factors that contributed to Bear Stearns failure

The result was a private bailout by the major financial firms and supervised by the Federal Reserve.
Bankers Trust, Barclays, Chase, Credit Suisse First Boston, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs,
Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Salomon Smith Barney, and UBS agreed to contribute
with $ 300 million each one, while SociГ©tГ© GГ©nГ©rale invested $125 million and Lehman
Brothers and Paribas did the same thing with $100 million.
The only bank that refused the join the syndicate was Bear Stearns. In the Bear Stearns case, the
sudden collapse of the firm and the impossibility to calculate the risk of taking Bear s mortgage
holdings forced the Federal Reserve to be involved actively into the bailout instead of the advisory
role it took in the LTCM case 10 years earlier.
1.4 What could Bear Stearns have done differently to avoid this fate?
In the early 2000 s, after the Federal Reserve dropped the interest rate and raised the money supply
trying to control the crisis produced by 9/11 terrorist attacks, the firm s directors should have been
more disciplined with the financial strategies, especially the ones related with hedge funds who
made poor quality investments. Furthermore, the failure to evaluate the risk, to diversify the
portfolio, and to control the use of high leveraging was driven by the need to justify the enormous

Cognitive Information Processing Model
The main point of the article is how to include assessments into a career counseling session when
clients are making decisions. The article strongly supports using assessments by showing only the
benefits of using assessments. This is unlike the textbook that shows that some counselors see using
assessments labels clients and that there is cultural bias. Like the textbook, it supports the idea the
counselors have to select the assessment based on the client s needs. The article uses the Cognitive
Information Processing Model (CIP), a seven step process on how to use assessments to help the
client. The steps include the preliminary interview, preliminary assessment, defining the problem
and analyzing the cause, forming goals, developing a learning plan, executing the learning plan, and
summative review and generalization. In the CIP model, this happens in the second step, the
preliminary assessment. Unlike the textbook, the article describes screening assessments. These
assessments are used gather information on the client s career problems, the level of readiness, and
factor s impacting career decisions. These assessments seem to be another way to better understand
the mind state of the client. This article is beneficial to the impact me as a... Show more content on

Our textbook shows that some counselors believe that using assessments can have a negative effect
but it never gives any quantities data behind it. They could give what culture biases affect those
taking the assessments. Since the textbook talks about assessments creating labels tend to be
harmful more information can be found how severe these labels on clients are. More research can
be done on how to create more culturally inclusive assessments. Another thing that can be studied is
which assessments are more effective. If counselors knew what assessments are more effective they

Resurrection Of Jesus
I believe that within the Gospels in the Bible we are able to find a deeper understanding of God
s unbelievable love for us as it discloses God s true purpose for Jesus life, which is so much more
than just showing us how to be good people. Jesus came to strengthen his understanding. Bruce
Bickel and Stan Jantz said I Knowing the Bible 101: A Guide to God s Word in Plain Language
that As a man, Christ knew the struggles that we face in our daily lives. He was not immune to
temptation, pain, and sorrow. (p. 220) This was so that God could carry out his plan to save us,
which Bickle and Jantz described like this Luke includes this quote of Jesus, which gives the best
statement of His purpose: And I, the Son of Man, have come to seek and save those like him who
are lost. (Luke 19:10). (p. 221)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I did not know that his ministry had only been done in a 3 year time span, which I find
absolutely astounding. What he was able to accomplish in just 3 years and the legacy he left
behind after his death is a miracle in itself really, when you look at the means for communication
at that time. I also see his resurrection in a new light after the reading this week, because I knew
that it was God s plan, but I never really looked at it as an act of service like described by Bickel
and Jantz Mark emphasizes Christ s ultimate act of servanthood with the crucifixion. Reading that
opened my eyes, because though I knew he was crucified to save us, which is an act of service, I
never viewed it as

Causes Of Imperialism
Imperialism Essay
Growing up, many children play the board game Battleship, where a player s main goal is to
conquer his opponent s ships and, eventually, land. Similarly, in the late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries, the nation of Europe and other countries took over and influenced countries
that they believed were inferior to them. This process, known as imperialism, is defined as a policy
of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force (google.com).
Clearly, both children in military board games and Europe in the real world used imperialism when
they seized lesser countries like Africa and the Philippines. However, there were many different
factors that caused countries to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, making money was important to European nations, so that is how the economy influenced
imperialism during this time period. The economy was not the only force responsible for
imperialism in Europe; another very important cause was the political aspect that related to
government affairs. According to Raymond Aron, imperialism was caused by political
ambitions... the nations will to power... [or] glory or national greatness. This means that Europe
used imperialism because they wanted to be the most powerful force in the world and have glory
over everyone else. Specifically, this political power was apparent in the French military because
they had the strongest weapons, warships, soldiers, and cannons (Gian, Phantom Thanh).
Therefore, they were easily able to take over other any desired country and go wherever they
wanted without resistance. Furthermore, another political cause of imperialism was that many
nations wanted to gain land and natural resources by taking over lesser countries. One of these
unfortunate countries was Africa, as shown in a 1914 map. In it, Africa was divided into numerous
territories that were ruled by seven total countries: Britain, France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal,
Italy, and Spain (African Map in 1914). Only one territory was independent and not conquered yet,
which really shows how imperialism spread all across Europe in this time period

The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act Essay
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare, was
passed in June of 2010 by the Supreme Court (Doyle 1). Georges C. Benjamin, MD, the executive
director of the Public Health Association says:
The new law will guarantee millions of Americans access to quality, affordable care regardless of
health status; decrease rates of the nation s leading chronic diseases; control soaring health
spending; and strengthen our battered public health infrastructure... Health reform and its historic
investment in prevention will help us achieve the promise we made to give our children a higher
quality of life than we have (ProCon.org). This new bill includes an individual mandate requiring all
uninsured individuals to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the new act, insurance companies are no longer able to deny coverage to anyone based on
their history of illnesses, current mental health illnesses, or potential future development of an
illness. Along with coverage of pre existing conditions and prohibiting insurance companies to
cancel coverage if a person becomes ill, the act is the first act in history that ensures that mental
health and substance abuse treatment services are required benefits in all basic health insurance
packages providing health for a much wider range of people (ProCon.org). The Patient Protection
and Affordable Care Act prohibits all health plans, including grandfathered plans, from rescinding
a health insurance policy once one is covered (ProCon.org). The only possible reason for a health
insurance policy to rescind ones coverage is if the enrollee has committed fraud or made an
intentional misrepresentation of material fact (ProCon.org). The universal coverage by this new act
is a major benefit in the structure of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. When
determining if the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is beneficial for America or not, it
is important to look at both sides of the argument. There are many positives that provide a strong
argument supporting the bill. When the bill was initially proposed, President Obama assured
Americans that, if they so choose, they would be able to keep their same doctor and

He goes on to explain that effective, proactive people spend most of their time in Quadrant II. To
accomplish this I would take his advice and try to organize my week on Sundays and try to
delegate responsibility with goals in mind not set ways that they have to be done. For the
interdependence section, the idea of making emotional deposits as often as possible will allow one
to feel better and work more efficiently with everyone s needs in mind.
The major emotional deposits Covey talks about are; understanding the individual, attending to little
things, keeping commitments, clarifying expectations, and showing personal integrity. With the
help of these habits I feel like I could improve myself. Understanding someone is very important
in everyday activities and especially in business situations. You need to understand who your
consumer is as well as whom your co workers are. When you understand them on a deeper level
you can relate better and be more productive. Something I ve always believed in is the attention to
little things matter most. It shows people that you do care and pay attention. This ties in well with
keeping commitments because that is something that is not always a big deal but can mean a lot to
people.

Gatsby and Tom s Horse Race:Tom, Sloane, and a pretty woman arrived at Gatsby s house on
horseback. As they were all about to leave, Gatsby urged them to stay for supper because he
wanted to learn more about Tom. The lady enthusiastically asked Gatsby and Nick to go to supper
at her house instead. Tom, on the contrary, did not want Gatsby to attend the dinner party and
mockingly accused Gatsby of not owning a horsefor Gatsby was far from elegant. To Tom s
surprise, Gatsby did own a horse and he claimed it to be the fastest horse in the East. Gatsby
would ride in the army and since then has grown very fond of horseback riding. Tom, being a
professional polo player, believed he had a better horse and challenged Gatsby to a race. Gatsby
accepted and they all rode to Tom s house where he had horse racing stadium. When they arrived,
the stadium was already being filled in by the dozens and high bids began to get placed.
The race began with a gun shot. Whoever pulled up in first out of 4 laps was the winner. Gatsby
had a huge lead by the end of the first lap then Tom began to gain speed and they were neck and
neck all through out the second and third lap. Finishing the fourth lap it appeared as if though
Tom s horse felt a restraint and Gatsby pulled up easily and took the win. Wolsheim had made an
appearance at the race so people began to accuse him of what happened to Tom s horse thinking he

Socioeconomic Status And Quality Of Education
In an ideal world, socioeconomic status would not affect the quality of education one would
receive. Everyone would have the same opportunities to do well in life and rise up the social ladder.
Durkheim (1893) asserted that with universally great public education, economic opportunities
would be relatively equal. Even with equal educationlevels, there would still exist some inequality
in the form of legitimate inequality (Durkheim 1893), but the excellent public education would
level the playing field, so to speak. However, our world is not an ideal world. We live in a
society where money talks and how rich a person is determines the caliber of their educational
background. Research has shown that a child from a high income family will have a better life
chance and that a child from a low income family has less of a chance to move up the ranks. In my
paper, I will argue that there is a correlation between socioeconomic status and quality of education
in that the higher socioeconomic status a person has, the better education opportunities they will be
able to obtain.
Statistically data from Piedmont, CA and East Oakland, CA demonstrates the idea that educational
quality and opportunities is closely related to socioeconomic status. Piedmont, CA is a wealthy
city surrounded by Oakland, a not so well off area. To clarify, the median household incomeof
Piedmont is $207,222 while East Oakland s median household income is $56,944 (US Census
2013). There is an extremely steep

Jasper Johns was born in Augusta, Georgia on May 15, 1930. He is still alive today known for
his paintings and printmaking. During his childhood, he lived with his father s grandparents due
to his parents marriage ending. His only introduction to art as a child was of paintings in his
grandfather s house of his grandmother who had died. He then moved around among with his aunt

Rauschenberg s studio to Leo Castelli, a gallery owner who gave Jasper his first solo show in 1958.
This led to his pieces being bought by the founder of New York s Museum of Modern Art. Later in
1963, Johns and Cage both founded the Foundation of Contemporary Performance Arts in New
York City, which is now known today as the Foundation of Contemporary Arts.

The Short Story Everyday Uses By Alice Walker
In the short story, Everyday Uses by Alice Walker, is about two daughters, one spoiled and one
thankful. The eldest daughter changes herself from her family, and thinks possessions matter
most. She s very outgoing and doesn t care about anyone but herself, and shows in the story how
this new man changed her. The younger and other sister, Maggie is more caring, as she is
willing to give up something just because her sister wanted it. She doesn t change and doesn t let
people change her like her older sister. I think this story shows how people are affected by their
surroundings. Some people want things but don t appreciate it until someone else does. This story

In recent years, the fast food industry has been facing significant challenges due to the increase in the consumer awareness on the production process and health concerns. The consumer awareness on health factors and the marketers detecting the possibility of change in the consumer taste have led the firms to expand their product lines in drinks more healthy foods (Schlosser, 2001). The confusion among the consumers is due to lack of information towards nutrition and individually the amount and what the body needs. The law that I think is very important, is that children, and students have to go to school. It is a state law. I think it is fair, because we are so much smarter then we would be if we didn t go to school. We students/cadets get to go to school. People all arround the world eather can t go to school, or can t afford it. We are so lucky. Shool might not be fun, but it will help us in the long run. We will have an education, we can then get a degree, then we can get a job and afford all kinds of things. Friends will usually be there unless they have something going on. For instance: they are sick, or they are bussy doing something or they are on vacation. Sometimes school just doesn t work out for some students. They just have to work harder than others. Something most people learn at or from school is Work smarter not harder . When people are having trouble they will ask for help, or sometimes they will give up. Giving up is never good. You can loose friends, grades go down, and life will just get harder. School is supposed to help you in all these ways, like: with your brains, and problems in life, or how to controle them. Some people choose to live in such a way that every fathomable opportunity is seized, while others bow down to grief and avoid the gift of pleasure out of pure fear. In Sara Teasdale s poem Lessons , she lyrically explores the idea that individuals have a great bounty of life experiences to enjoy. Life is too short and this earth is too plentiful to not take advantage of every unusual and thrilling opportunity, including understanding and facing our rawest emotions. Through diction and personification, Teasdale iterates that opposed to shrinking away from moments in time that may make us uncomfortable, individuals should embrace what they feel and what beauty this earth ... • 6. Themes InBreaking Dawn, By Stephenie Meyer In the book Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer there are many differences and similarities to this other book The Elite by Kiera Cass. There are the difference of themes and the setting and the characters in each book. They are shown by using dialogue and the description in the seperate books. The book Breaking Dawn is the story that shows love between Bella and Edward only growing deeper and more meaningful. In the book The Elite there is the main characterAmerica Singer and how she is know really showing her true emotion to Maxon the prince. During Breaking Dawn when you first start to read it, you know that it is a fantasy book and this is something that is not true in The Elite, this book is based on the idea of Kings and Queens but this is something that is more realistic and is may happen. But in some sense you could say that this is a similarity and something that it true between each of the books. But one of the many similarities is the strong theme in each of the books, that theme is love and love is the one thing that almost of the characters in the book experience. Each of the characters are able to feel the deep emotion that love holds. But the love is also different. It is shared between different people and it is a different meaning to each person in each of the books. The Elite shows the love between 6 girls and one man. Breaking Dawn, the love is between Bella and Edward but then is basically projected to other characters in the book. These characters are able to witness and understand how important the main characters of each book are valuable to each other. The setting in each of the books really shows how the importance of symbols makes the setting very important. The symbols that each of the setting holds is also shown by the characters and how they are able to add to the setting and the symbolism. In each book the symbol is used a a gift to each of the main characters. In The Elite America is given a bracelet. This bracelet symbolizes there love and also there conflicts. When having one of their many conflict America shows that should doesn t really care but in a way she also shows that even without having that bracelet she still loves Maxon and she still thinks about him, without ... Dove s campaign began as a way to strike up a discussion over the true definition of beauty. Since 2004, Dove s campaign has had many different ways of achieving this goal to reach out to those struggling with beauty. These campaigns include counterarguments on issues including aging, thin as beautiful. Dove even made a commercial which showed women describing themselves to an artist, and then another individual coming in and describing that same person to the artist. Later the women got to come back in and see the difference in the drawings, which gave them an insight to how others view them and their true beauty. Dove conducted a study in which the results were that only four percent of the women in the world thought of themselves as beautiful. Since the early twentieth Century, Sojourner Truth has been rated by a number of studies as among the prominent African Americans who have contributed to the rich history of the United States. Indeed, volumes of scholarly journals (Caroll, 1985; Redding, 1971) on America s history have been adorned by her civil image and feminist character in the campaign against violation of women s rights and slavery. Her contributions to emancipation of oppressed minorities from social restraint dates were initiated by her successful elusion from slavery in 1827 (Smith, 1951). After moving to New York City, she embraced evangelical religion and actively engaged in moral reforms. Having joined the Utopian Community (which was mainly based in New York), she ventured in the preaching career, acquiring a great deal of Biblical knowledge. Her abolitionist policies were inscribed in her entertaining and highly instructive gospel songs that she sang as a wandering orator and famous platform figure. A year before mandatory emancipation of slaves in New York City, Sojourner officially adopted the names Sojourner Truth in 1843. From Brawdy s (1991) revelations, Truth proved to be a servant of the people during the Great Civil War. She collected clothing and food for displaced populations, tramping the isolated roads of Michigan. According to Edwards (1986), she was the first human rights activist to confront President Abraham Lincoln at White House, where she dedicated her life and mobilized resources to the service of freed persons. Kiplings narrative not only shows a personal opinion, but also what some people would contradict him with. Take Peachey and Dravot for instance, who one not only said in a connotative way that he believes in is King, I greatly fear that my King is dead, and if I want a crown I must go and hunt it for myself. This character within the story showed a persona of some people and how they felt with the current British empire.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a desperate hyperbole of a sentence, to threaten the possibility of someone being cut to pieces, but it does show the hidden feeling that Kipling believes that other coutries have a very extreme and different way of living. Trudging back to what the opinion is on different classes, later in the story the main character addresses the different people that come into the newspaper building, every dissolute ruffian that ever tramped the Grand Trunk Road makes it his business to ask for employment as a proof reader. • 39. How Technology Has Developed And Integrated Systems Of... I have always been fascinated by the magnificent way humans have developed and integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information and energy. Growing up, I was incredibly curious to unravel how devices function, and this curiosity developed into a burning desire to learn how processes, systems, and organizations operate and run our world. From an early age I used to read science books, journals, magazines and watch engineering documentaries driven by my eagerness to gain a better understanding of the mechanism by which our world system is working. I completed my Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering, the program was a blend of mathematics, operation management, lean manufacturing, quality control and engineering economics applications. All through my Bachelor program, I was attracted to the idea of developing a more effective technique to generate power of the solar system using smart technology. Driven by a desire to tackle the global warming phenomenon, I decided to carry out my final year project work on a solar power generation device, where I came up with an innovative method and designed a dual axis model which used the solar power to operate and produce renewable energy with improved efficiency. Whilst pursuing my Bachelor degree I worked for Rimth Company LTD, a contracting and trading private company, for three years. ADHD, Ritalin, Families, and Pharmaceutical Companies Essay ADHD, Ritalin, Families, and Pharmaceutical Companies In today s fast paced society, it seems that prescription drugs are a more reasonable and reliable solution for children and adults than diet and exercise for the disease known as ADHD. Rather than take the time to play with their children, or institute a proper diet, it seems that increasing numbers of parents would rather treat their children s unexplained zest for life with pills and doctors. While there are some explanations and reasons for the diagnosis of this popular disease, most children are improperly diagnosed, and are therefore taking unneeded medication. This means that 1 child out of a classroom that has 25 30 students in it will have ADHD. The NIMH (2004) has stated this in their article on ADHD that Dr. Heinrich Hoffman first described it in 1845. He was a physician who wrote books on medicine and psychiatry, he also wrote books for children. He described the disease in a book he was writing to his son, he wrote The Story of Fidgety Phillip which described a little boy with the exact symptoms of what would be known today as ADHD. It was not until 1902 that Sir George F. Still published a lecture to the Royal College of Physicians in London about impulsive children with behavioral problems that he stated were caused by a genetic dysfunction and not by poor education. Since then many studies have been done on the cause, symptoms, and treatment of ADHD. There is no real evidence of what causes ADHD. There have been many theories and hypothesis on the subject but no real concrete evidence of what causes the disease or how to prevent it. John Calvin s Teachings Essay It seems that from all of John Calvin s teachings, it s quite possible that this debate over his doctrine of predestination has been argued more than any other in history. In this essay I will explore Calvin s view of predestination, giving special attention to the justice of predestination. Secondly, I will explain the purpose of election as understood by Calvin. Third, I will discuss the purpose of reprobation. So what is the basis of Calvin s view of predestination? It would be most simply stated that predestination is the doctrine that before God created humankind God chose some for eternal life and sentenced others to eternal damnation. At the core of the argument is Calvin s view of predestination as completely unconditional in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calvin asks, How can it be consistently said that things derived from election are the cause of election? It is important to point out that Calvin appears to be certain of the capability of God s election. The Israelites, God s elect people, could fall out of election because they don t have a spirit of regeneration that would give perseverance in the covenant, until the end. Although individual elected persons will persevere. Those God has chosen for eternal life will certainly receive it, and those God has rejected will face destruction. What s the reasoning behind God s election of some and rejection of others? This explanation is simple, but may require some defending, which I intend to do. God elects and rejects so that he will be glorified. The challenge lies in the destruction of some, not in the grace that is demonstrated. Either way, Calvin affirms that God is just to the reprobate, that through them God s glory may be revealed. Throughout history many people have attributed Calvin of conceptualizing an arbitrary and unjust God. There are some that would suggest that God elects those whom, in his foreknowledge, he knows will choose to follow God through Jesus Christ. Clearly, making money was important to European nations, so that is how the economy influenced imperialism during this time period. The economy was not the only force responsible for imperialism in Europe; another very important cause was the political aspect that related to government affairs. According to Raymond Aron, imperialism was caused by political ambitions... the nations will to power... [or] glory or national greatness. This means that Europe used imperialism because they wanted to be the most powerful force in the world and have glory over everyone else. Specifically, this political power was apparent in the French military because they had the strongest weapons, warships, soldiers, and cannons (Gian, Phantom Thanh). Therefore, they were easily able to take over other any desired country and go wherever they wanted without resistance. Furthermore, another political cause of imperialism was that many nations wanted to gain land and natural resources by taking over lesser countries. One of these unfortunate countries was Africa, as shown in a 1914 map. In it, Africa was divided into numerous territories that were ruled by seven total countries: Britain, France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, Italy, and Spain (African Map in 1914). Everyone would have the same opportunities to do well in life and rise up the social ladder. Durkheim (1893) asserted that with universally great public education, economic opportunities would be relatively equal. Even with equal educationlevels, there would still exist some inequality in the form of legitimate inequality (Durkheim 1893), but the excellent public education would level the playing field, so to speak. However, our world is not an ideal world. We live in a society where money talks and how rich a person is determines the caliber of their educational background. Research has shown that a child from a high income family will have a better life chance and that a child from a low income family has less of a chance to move up the ranks. In my paper, I will argue that there is a correlation between socioeconomic status and quality of education in that the higher socioeconomic status a person has, the better education opportunities they will be able to obtain. Piedmont, CA is a wealthy city surrounded by Oakland, a not so well off area.
