2. Motherhood
A total of 18 University of California, Los Angeles undergraduate students from a research methods
class were used to fulfill a course requirement. The gender breakdown was comprised of 15 self
identified females, 2 males, and 1 gender queer. The mean age was an average of 20 with an age
range from 18 years to 22 years.
A 2x2 within subjects design was used for the present study. The first independent variable, of
Motherhood, has two levels. The first level is if the applicant was identified as a Mother, which
is defined by having dependents in the home to claim on their W 2 forms as indicated on the
resume. The second level was if the applicant was a non mother, a non mother was defined as not

The four resumes were printed on 9x11 paper and had on the top left corner the word name, next
to the name was a letter, either A, B, C, or D. A was the first resume the participant viewed
regardless of what was on the resume, B was the second, C the third and D the last. The way of
identifying the resumes was done so that the letter would not correspond to a specific resume or
level and create an extraneous variable. Underneath the name the word school was listed along with
the school for that given level, either Harvard University for high prestige or California State
University, Long Beach for low prestige. Harvard University was chosen to operationalize high
prestige because as an Ivy League institution there comes a high reputation and prestige with the
name. For the low prestige level, California State University, Long Beach (Cal State, Long Beach)
was chosen because, in comparison to Harvard University, it is low in prestige. Cal State, Long
Beach was chosen as an equal comparison instead of a community college because they are in two
different states but both have given the student potential to receive a Bachelors of Arts/Science
degree. Under the school, the words extracurricular was listed, and next to the words were one of
four listed extracurriculars that the applicant took part of at the respective college. The four
extracurriculars were either president of a school club, participation in the school s

3. Business Ethics And Corporate Social Responsibility
Nowadays, a business wants to exist and grow in a society, which business ethics and corporate
social responsibility are sensitive and crucial objectives, the business should do what is right. Many
people agree that business does not exist beyond society, it is a citizenship in the society. Therefore,
business has to have many certain obligations and social responsibility. It generally means business
have to do something good for the community, making social contribution, and using effectively
resources in a way that next generations can continue to use them. Especially, business managers
should pay attention not only their companies financial aspects, but also their social and
environmental contributions. In the past, TideeKleen used to be a famous company in its fields,
with strong reputation for social and environment responsibility. Unfortunately, the company hit
temporarily financial and reputational issues. Standing among three tough choices, the company
should make decision which satisfies all parties related, helping the company overcome the issue,
and bringing the most benefits for the company about financial and reputational aspects. Firstly,
what do utilitarian comment about three options? Let s consider option A, TK could benefit from

Rikki Tikki Tavi is a short story written by Rudyard Kipling that takes place in Colonial, India.
Rikki Tikki, the principal character, is a snake eating mongoose that gets flushed out of his
home and taken in by a family. The story shows the good and evil in people and the fight
between the brave mongoose and the two snakes, Nag and Nagaina. In the end, Rikki ends up
killing the two snakes and to save the family that adopted him. I believe that Rikki is not guilty
and that the snakes were attempting murder. People think of the snakes as the hero s and say that
Rikki Tikki is guilty, but, he is not. Many people think he is liable for his actions of killing the
snakes and their babies. However, these actions saved the family and the future garden.

5. Glenn Irwin s Two Butterflies
Glenn Irwin s Two Butterflies demonstrates a movement in age and development of experience
through the images of two distinct butterflies. The ideas Irwin articulates about age and experience
with this imagery also serve to show the disconnect between nature and civilization over time. The
poem is divided into two stanzas: morning and evening. Likewise, there are two butterflies: morning
and evening. The morning butterfly has only just completed his transition stage. He is faced with
the beginning of life and the task to make a connection to civilization. The evening butterfly is well
into her final life stage. She has gone through the experiences the morning butterfly has not; her
connection with civilization has been previously established.... Show more content on

He has spent anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months in the protection of his cocoon.
Now he has transitioned into his final form as a butterfly and must begin to experience this new

touch, and struggling to open his wings (2 3, 6, 7 8). His body is unknown to him, he has
useless legs and is compared to a drunk on a pony (4, 5). He has yet to use his legs, to open and
dry his wings, and to fly. In order to have those experiences he must make a connection with
civilization. Irwin illustrates the morning butterfly s movement toward this connection as he

ANSWER: Software tools such as revision marks and commenting keep track of proposed editing
changes electronically and provide a history of a document s revisions. A spell checker compares
your document with an electronic dictionary, highlights unrecognized words, and suggests correct
spellings. A computer thesaurus gives you alternative words much more quickly than a printed
thesaurus does. A grammar checker provides limited help with issues such as noun verb agreement
problems and items you should consider changing (such as passive voice, long sentences, or words
that tend to be misused or overused). Finally, a style checker monitors your word choice and
sentence structure and suggests alternatives that might produce more effective meaning.

Jamaica is known for its jerked chicken, clear waters, and more notably for Reggae, which

value of today, reggae is not only music; however it is a way of life for some Jamaicans. It
originated as a political form of protest against the colonial forces operative in the social context of
Jamaican life. Musical ambassadors like the Abyssinians, Burning Spear, Sir Jimmy Cliff, Bob

introducing reggaemusic to the world and giving it international recognition. Yet, despite its

Artists would essentially hit two birds with one stone. The first bird was the ability to simply
perform their music. However the second bird isn t as simple as the first, it is the meaning. The
second was the protest against the Babylon system and oppression. To the Rastafari, the Babylon
system is any and all oppressive and unequal practices in Jamaica. Babylon began to surface
throughout reggae music. Reggae lyrics are suggestive of the reggae protest songs. Bob Marley
is a great example of capturing his strong negative views of Babylon. Reggae protest songs proved
to be a force with power, both socially and politically. Ironically the Jamaican government would
use reggae as a vehicle to promote its views (King, xiv).
Reggae never lost and will never lose its association with music and the Rastafari culture. It
remains a revolutionary form of explanatory art. Music never remains stagnate, it will always
evolve. Roots reggae; a sub genre of Reggae, was dominant in Jamaica in the cohort of 1975
1980. Roots reggae tackles the life of a ghetto sufferer and discusses truths and rights (Barrow

reggae. Dancehall became widely used after the death of Bob Marley in 1981 (Barrow and

11. Project Delivery Methods For Distinct Allocation Of Risk...
Project delivery methods allow for distinct allocation of risk and responsibilities within a
construction contract. Each unique construction project calls for a defined delivery method and a
written contract in order to ensure the success of the venture. A project delivery option is defined as
a method for procurement which the owner s assignment of delivery risk and performance for
design and construction has been transferred to another party (Mahdi 564). After a legal and
appropriate contract is signed, contractual privity exists which allows the contracting parties to hold
each other responsible for their actions. The design bid build delivery method is often referred to
the traditional method of contractual relationships in the construction industry. This method allows
the owner to select a design professional based off of the quality of their work, whereas the
selection of the construction manager is based off competitive bids submitted after the completion
of the design. The traditional method may be viewed as the tried and true system of creating
successful contractual relationships, but the evolution of the industry has called for this method to
take on different forms. One such form is the construction manager at risk (CMR) method, which
allows for collaboration between the owner, designer, and construction manager during the early
stages of the design process and continues throughout the life of the construction project. This
agreement makes up thirty percent

Low Voltage Current Mode Realization of Digital Logic Gates using CMOS
In this paper a new technique is introduced for implementing the basic logic function by using
analog current mode techniques. By expanding the logic function in power series expression, and
using adder and sub tractor realization of the basic logic function is simplified. To illustrate the
proposed technique, a CMOS circuit for simultaneous realization of the logic function NOT, AND,
OR, NAND and XOR is considered. PSPICE simulation results, obtained with В±2V supply, are

In an attempt to answer this question, the translinear principle (Gilbert, 1990) has been used to
realize a digital inverter circuit (Kemp, 1983, 1984) a bistable element (Seevinck, 1978) and NOT
/OR/NAND/XOR functions (M., 2003) . All the realizations of logic gates in current mode
reported in references (Kemp, 1983, 1984; Seevinck, 1978; M., 2003) use bipolar technology.
In this paper, we present such an approach, a low Voltage CMOS analog digital circuit in current
mode where it works with a supply voltage of VDD= VSS=2V. The circuit is based on the four
quadrant CMOS analog multiplier (Ali et al., 2009).

14. Polonius Literary Devices
In Act I Scene III of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Polonius, the father of Laertes and Ophelia,
enters as Laertes is saying his goodbye to Ophelia. Polonius talks to each of the two characters
directly at different points in this scene; however, the conversations are both meant to be a helpful
warning and lesson to each of the characters. The main point, or crux, of the conversation between
Poloniusand Laertes was a series of small, fatherly tips and lessons to Laertes before he goes off
on his trip to Paris. The main point of the conversation between Polonius and Ophelia was a
warning that Ophelia shouldn t get mixed up with Hamletromantically because Hamlet wouldn t
truly love her. A literary device that Shakespeare employs within the conversation between
Polonius and Laertes would be the use of sentence structure. During the lecture to Laertes,
Shakespeare ends every piece of advice with a period, ultimately separating the different parts of
his lesson. This structure creates a kind of list that the audience is able to put together although it
is not specifically separated. This serves to prove the point that Laertes has a lot left to learn but
not enough time so Shakespeare sends Polonius to teach these important lessons quickly before

describe Ophelia saying, Unsifted in such perilous circumstance. (Shakespeare 1.3.111). This

God wants more Christians to stay in the business world, the arts, entertainment, politics,
journalism, etc. and bring their Christian convictions and world view to bear on how they
conduct their business, write songs or films, or paint pictures. One of the reasons for the recent
decline of Christian impact on our culture is because too many Christians have left the fields of
science, math, film, art, journalism, and especially politics, and hence there was a vacuum left
that the humanist, skeptic, atheist, and agnostic filled. So, now when in recent years Christians
have tried to boldly make an impact on culture in these various fields, especially politics, we are
finding the whole world view of our culture has changed and the world view of absolutes, right
and wrong, the Ten Commandments, prayer, belief in God, convictions about abortion and
homosexuality as sin are scoffed at, laughed at, labeled as intolerant, and even pushed out by
media blitz or ignoring the facts or not giving Christians opportunity to voice their opinion. When
considering a call to ministry, let me encourage you to not dichotomize too sharply between the
secular and sacred. God wants to use all kinds of vocations to both disciple the nations ( Matt.

Do zoos benefit and improve the lives of animals, or are they catastrophic and disastrous to all
these creatures? This has been a huge debate ever since zoos have been created. Numerous people
believe they are horrid and an issue to animals. In reality, zoos benefit and improve the lives of
these animals for a great amount of reasons.
To illustrate, zoos promote animal conservation. Most animals that have lived in a zoo never
experienced the wild. According to the Conversation, it implies, Everyone believes the wild is a
safer habitat than in zoos, despite drastic threats of climate change, increased poaching, and
destruction of animal s habitats for palm oil. Other examples of how zoos promote animal
conservation are how after ten years of hard work to support and strengthen the amount of
endangered California condors, a type of vulture, the Los Angeles and San Diego zoos have
increased the population from about two dozen to about 170 birds (Are Zoos Good or Bad for

Moving on to see how the psyche was imagined through works of Hesiod and Homer in the 7th
Century B.C. Hesiod tells us that the world parents were Gaia and Uranus (Bowles, 2010).
According to the module workbook Uranus was a tyrannical god and feared that his children would
usurp his power and therefore he hid them in the underworld. However, one of his son Cronos
came back when he got older and castrated his father. He feared the same thing like his father did
and so he swallowed his children. His wife managed to save one of the children namely Zeus and
sent him to be brought up by the shepherds. As we all know history repeats itself, Zeus came
back and gave his father a potion to vomit the rest of the children and then castrated him. He also
managed to release his father s brothers. Psychologically if a father eats his children, it s a
metaphor for a father who tries to take over his children s lives i.e no space or freedom. Zeus
then shared the world with his brothers and lived in Mount Olympus with his wife Hera and his
children by Hera and as well as other women. Mount Olympus was believed to be the place where

19. Analysis Of Dave Barry s Guys Vs.
A short essay Guys vs. Men written by Dave Barry, presents Dave s perception on the difference
between Guys and Men . Dave presents his essay in a comical way that generalizes the men vs.
guys and also gender biased generalization. Dave argues that men hold too much of responsibilities
and many expectations in which guys do not and they live happier life. One of the methods he uses
to support his argument is a comparison. Other method he uses is the description of how he views
men vs. guys and gives his perspective. And the last method he uses to further his argument is the
use of hyperbole, exaggerationthrough out the essay.
First method of development Dave uses to further his argument is a comparision and gender biased
generalization. His temptation to buy new and unnecessary things just because he is a guy can be
compared when he compares females urge to rearrange furniture with males urge of using newest
and latest technical equipments. Dave separates guys and women by giving their choice that is
somewhat statistically true, that women are more interested in decorating house oppose to
buying latest version of technical items. Dave s use of logos play significant role here to support
his argument. Not only he compares guys and women, but also guys with his auxiliary dog. (919).

things they do, just like his small auxiliary backup dog. Dave is saying that his

During my research, I have found that depending on where you look there are a variety of Social
Classes in the United States. The most obvious and probably the best known are the six social
classes primarily used in the United States today. Below, I have compiled some facts that help
describe and support each class.
Upper Class
The upper class makes up about one percent of the U.S. population, generally consists of those who
have inherited wealth from their families, this is also known as old money.
New Money
The new money class is relatively new on the social class ladder and makes up about fifteen percent
of the U.S. population. New money includes people whose wealth has only been around for a
generation or two.

Poverty Level
The poverty level class lacks the means to meet their basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter.
The poverty level is currently about $18,000 per year.
These classes have become even more apparent in today s tough economy. There are many
families and individuals that were once in a higher class, which have been forced to a lower
class due the declining economy. This is known or felt by Americans watching today s struggling
economy. Due to the economy failing, it has caused most industries to cut back on production and
has caused a decline in the working force. In turn, this has caused a ripple effect to almost every
business across America. A simple analogy to help support this would be; the auto industry is not

The film Beast of the Southern Wild is a coming of age movie, which is told in the point of view of
the progantist Hushpuppy. Hushpuppy is a six year old girl living on the outskirts of society in the
Bathtub. Through the lenses and point of view of Hushpuppy, the audience is about to see the
human experiences of Hushpuppy s transition from dependence to independence and learning how
to survive in the environment she lives in. Through the use of adult figures, motifs, and overall

The use of motifs throughout the film helped reveal the story in a way that is completely unique
to the point of view of Hushpuppy. During the same speech Miss Bathsheba gives, Hushpuppy is
also introduced to aurochs. Aurochs are extincts beasts that are frozen in the caps of the South
pole. From this scene on, the audience is shown multiple shots of the beasts. These beasts are
usually portrayed when Hushpuppy exhibits signs of fear or a change in Hushpuppy s outlook.
By molding the aurochs into the sequence of the film, this adds to the feeling of childish
wonder. Moreover, it helps the viewer connect with Hushpuppy s fear. For example, there is a
scene in the movie where Hushpuppy comes face to face with her fear and the aurochs. This is
the moment where her father is ill and dying. She has to combat her fear of the aurochs. She does
this by not running. She turns around and stares at the aurochs. The aurochs eventually lay down
and sniff her in a sense of acceptance. It was at this point where Hushpuppy says You re my
friend, kind of. I gotta take care of mines (Zeitlin 2012). This scene is one of the most important
scenes in how Hushpuppy helps unreveal the storyline. This is the end of the movie, and she faces

Almost the whole story takes place somewhere in a village surrounded by dense forests. Story is

really when this actually occurred. Nature is well described and there are even some good detail
descriptions. For instance; ....sunbeams dancing here and there through the trees , which made the

I think that by describing the nature well, the writer wanted to scare kids away from lonely

The writer used words like whither, craftily, nosegay, thou, thee. I didn t found it hard to read,
but I believe that the story could be a bit more interesting if the writer used more modern and

some dialogues in it. It is more interesting that way. The story is not exactly emotional, neither is
the used language. This however doesn t stop it from being a good version of Little Red Ridding

28. Leibniz Free Will
The topic of free will has been rooted in the heart of philosophy for many centuries, and like
many other topics in philosophy, there is never an answer that everyone can agree on. The topic
itself stems from a notion that morality can t seem to exist if we don t have free will.
Furthermore, since God is an all knowing being, how can free willexist if he already knows what
we are going to do? Leibniz offers an interesting argument to tackle this issue. First, I want to
explain his concept of the monad, then delve into his position on free will, and finally tie the two
ideas together and evaluate if his logic is sound. According to Leibniz, a Monad is the simplest
building block for everything that we perceive in our reality. A monad has... Show more content on

This doesn t seem to make any sense considering that God s best possible world is one with free
will. However, I think that Leibniz would argue that knowledge of the future doesn t necessarily
mean a lack of choice in the matter. Like God, the Super monad facilitates and governs aspects of
the rational and perceiving monads, so having omniscience is inevitable when considering all the
power that God has. The monad isn t making me take any actions or fixing me on a set path, it
simply has knowledge of my actions due to the power of God. To further clarify my position, I
would like to refer to the Monadology itself; Leibniz establishes the power of the monad on line
47 by saying Thus God alone is the basic unitary thing, the original simple substance. All created
or derivative monads are produced by him. . From there he elaborates on the extent of God s
power on line 48 In God there is (i) power, which is the source of everything, then (ii) knowledge,
which contains every single idea, and then finally (iii) will, which produces changes in accordance
with the principle of what is best. And these are what correspond, respectively, to what in created

30. Essay on Falstaff in Henry IV Part I
The Character of Falstaff in Henry IV Part I
In Henry IV Part I, Shakespeare presents a collection of traditional heroes. Hotspur s laudable
valor, King Henry s militaristic reign, and Hal s princely transformation echo the socially extolled
values of the Elizabethean male. Molding themselves after societal standards, these flat characters
contrast Sir John Falstaff s round, spirited personality. Through Falstaff s unorthodox behavior and
flagrant disregard for cultural traditions, Shakespeare advocates one s personal values above society

Falstaff s essence invigorate the unfettered spirit of man that resents tyrannical oppression of the

Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows Romeo s infatuation with two things:
death, and Juliet, one overpowering the other. Romeo is suicidal; everything related to eternal

could not. She helped Romeo forget about the harsh realities of the world, whereas death allowed
Romeo an option in the end where he could be alongside his one and only true love. Whether it be

goes to Mantua, Romeo quickly becomes depressed. He complains that, heaven is here, where
Juliet lives, and every cat and dog and little mouse, every unworthy thing, live here in heaven

he is tortured by the fact that he may never be able to see her again without the risk of being

Romeo heard of Juliet s deceasement, he rushes to go to Verona despite the evident threat to his
life, with poison, to kill himself alongside Juliet. He kills himself just before Juliet woke up.
Juliet then kills herself so that they may be together in the afterlife regardless of if it is hell or

Congestion pricing is a particular type of road pricing where variable fees are charged with an
explicit purpose to reduce congestion (Litman, 2007). It is a method of harnessing the power of
the market to reduce the waste associated with traffic congestion and it uses market forces to
allocate limited facility capacity among users by their need to travel and their willingness to pay

This means increasing prices during certain periods of time or at the places where congestion
occurs or introducing a new usage tax or charge when peak demand exceeds available supply in
the case of a tax funded public good provided free at the point of usage. According to the
economic theory behind congestion pricing, the aim of this policy is to use the price mechanism to
make users more aware of the costs that they impose upon one another when consuming during the
peak demand. In this case, they should pay for the additional congestion they create, thus
encouraging the redistribution of the demand in space or in time (Button, 1993) or shifting it to
the consumption of a substitute public good, for instance, switching from private transport to
public transport (Small Verhoef, 2007). This pricing mechanism has been used in several public

40. Merit Scholarship Analysis
I am writing my appeal for the Merit Scholarship for the upcoming Fall 2015 2016 semester at
Dillard University.
In life there are many transitions and change that occurs. Coming from L.W. Higgins High School
in Marrero, I maintained a 3.0+ GPA. I had good relationships with my teachers and schoolwas
never a problem for me. The difference is that I had brought the same mentality to Dillard
University thinking that it would be the same, but it was totally different from what I expected. I
am being honest that I was distracted and I have to learn how to balance everything that was going
on in my personal life and it was a struggle to balance my social, spiritual and my education.
With always doing well in school without studying. I learned that I do not know how to study
and I thought I did not need to and I was in for a rude awakening. I was not really asking for help.
I didn t use the resources at student success to help me in areas of studying where I lacked. I
started studying with a group of people that kept me more grounded and I was doing better in my
grades and my overall performance. This is why I picked Dillard as a university because I have met
people that really care and having the want for everyone to succeed. ... Show more content on

I lost someone that was close like a brother his name was Terrance Wright. He died in March and
losing my friend really hurt me and I had lost my ambition to do the things I used to. I lost my
consistency, but with good friends and I had to meditate and I had to think about what would
Terrance want me to do. That is what made me want to start to get back in my books. I m doing
it first for Kyndel but I m doing it for Terrance. His death really made me realize that life is short
and my education is something that is a privilege that many people do not live to

41. PEST Analysis on British Airways Essay
PEST Analysis on British Airways
The four different environments are often referred to as PEST and allow a PESTanalysis to be
conducted this allows the organisation to review and consider the environment in which it operates.
The PEST factor that has contributed to the airlines industry for many years, but has brought a
drastic change was from the disaster on September 11th
2001.
Political environment concerns the role of the government and its affects in an organisation it also
includes the extent to which the government intervenes in the economy. Due to the terrorist attack
many airlines such as British Airways stopped flights to certain countries such as the middles east
and the main countries involved with the fear

The main issue that would affect the airline, that would be seen as a short term effect would be that
a company share values have decreased rapidly. However this is not a long term worry, as things
would eventually start getting back to normal, share value would increase. The British economy
has lost put, as many people are scared to fly into America, and therefore the demand is low to
travel, however the supply is high, this could be a dangerous factor for the small airline companies
that do not have enough funding in the first place, now they are literally on the verge of bankruptcy.
Social environment is of great importance when being applied to different organisations, in case the
airline industry. The short term affect that the social factor has on the airline industry is that, people
have cut down on using flying as a mean of travel after the
September 11th incident. Many of the flights have been cancelled from
America, this resulting to financial difficulties for British Airways.
The long term affect that is going to have is that if there are not as many passengers, then the
amount of staff that the companies have hired are no longer needed. However there are some
people that have not been affected by the September 11th incident, many people have taken this as
an advantage, of cheaper tickets. This however is a short term affect, due to as soon as

If you have debt, it s impossible to experience true financial freedom. It would be nice to make
life decisions that weren t totally based on your finances. In order to live this way, you ll need to
get out of debt quickly. Try these sixteen ways and climb out of the hole.
1. Get a part time job.
Check the newspapers and the internet job boards for part time work. You can find extra work in
an office building where you can file papers. You might be able to be a server at a restaurant and
make money in tips. If you have the extra time in your schedule, a simple part time job that

few of these services, they still don t add up to the cost of cable.
6. Use coupons.
Instead of tossing the coupons out as junk mail, take a few minutes to go through the pamphlets
and find out what you can get a discount on. Challenge yourself to become a better cook by
shaping your menus around what s available in grocery coupons. Clip out the coupons that offer
discounted prices on oil changes and other routine car maintenance services you ll eventually need.
7. Stick to a budget.
Look at your money as soldiers who work for you. There should be an assignment for every
dollar that comes in. When each dollar has marching orders, you ll be able to experience more
financial discipline. Remember that this is your budget so you can decide what you d like to spend
money on after the necessities get taken care of.
8. Do the debt snowball method.
Make a list of all of your debts, largest to smallest. Pay the minimum balance on all of them.
However, attack the smallest debt with as much money as you can. Do all the things on this list to
create some extra income and put it toward the smallest debt. Once you pay the smallest debt off,
use that same amount and apply it to the next debt payment. Before long, you ll be able off large
sums of debt in a shorter amount of

The Marketing Concept The marketing concept has evolved over the last years, marketing reflects
to a key approach to doing business. An organisations objective is to make profit, to do this they
have to consider the marketingconcept, in order to satisfy customers. For an organisation to be
successful should divert its attention away from particular products and towards the interest of the
customers. Customers changing their needs and wants influence an organisations strategies and
plans. Meeting customer s needs is the main key in marketing.

Nokia does not meet the customer requirements, then the customers will walk away and will use

The Marketing concept holds that the key to achieving the organisational goals lies in determining
the needs and wants of target markets and delivering the desired satisfaction more efficiently and
effectively than the competition [3]. For an organisation to provide products that satisfy customers
needs through a co ordinated set of activities that also allows the organisation to achieve its goals,

46. Naipaul Does Not Deserve his Nobel Prize Essay
What makes an individual worthy of a Nobel Prize in a category as broad as literature? Is it an
immense knowledge of writing procedures that other authors have not begun to attempt to use?
Or is an appropriate representation of the author s subject that is solely objective, and lacks all
personal opinions? If that was the case, several Prizes should be taken away from some authors
and handed to other more deserving writers. V. S. Naipaul, who received a Nobel Prizein Literature
for Miguel Street, falls into the former category. Naipaul may have filled the technical requirements
for a Nobel Prize for his mastery of several difficult techniques, yet his writing neglects to explain
the merits of Trinidad while highlighting the negatives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What did Nobel actually mean by ideal? In fact, the history of the Literature Prize appears as a
series of attempts to interpret an imprecisely worded will.
A comparison with Porgy and Bess has been suggested. (C. Pierre) The parallel has at least the
merit of reminding us that the whole world is one. In that hospitable mood we might also
remember Mark Twain s tales of life on the Mississippi. But Miguel Street, in Trinidad, is not
really very much like Catfish Row, nor are reminders of nineteenth century Missouri prevalent.
What is true and, if you will, significant about Mr. Naipaul s book is that it presents a world of its
own excellently. Vivid characters with tenuous means of support populate the place. They sing the
latest Calypso songs and interest themselves in cricket matches and collect junk and talk about
migrating across the narrow sea to Venezuela. If their attitude toward morals is informal it is shown
openly, not covertly. Their standards of courage are high. They speculate endlessly on the
tremendous trifles and mysteries that have troubled man s thinking throughout his tenure on our
strange planet. A room with a view of a mango tree may contain a boisterously quarrelsome family
or a recluse devoted to carpentry or scholarship. The popular beverage is rum, though the gay
blades who enjoy it most turn to the ostentatious patronage of a milk bar during an interval when
joy through strength becomes fashionable. It had so many

47. The Carbon Of Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment
The Carbon in Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment (CARVE) is a multi year mission
conducted by NASA to obtain detailed calculations of greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon
dioxide and methane from thawing permafrost by probing deep into the frozen landscape of Alaska.
For the first time, NASA scientists have been accurately recording these emission sources and rates
using highly sensitive airborne sensors mounted on NASA government aircraft. NASA scientists
expect to make unprecedented accurate estimates of the extent of Arctic carbon cycling impacts to
the Arctic atmosphere and the local Alaskan ecology. The data results of this mission will help both
NASA and global scientists better understand how the estimated rate of greenhouse gasemissions
affect the rise in temperature and potential impact of Earth s future climate near and long term. The
CARVE mission goals intend to answer important questions about Earth climate change. Ultimately,
CARVE will provide an integrated set of data that will provide unprecedented experimental insights
into Arctic carbon cycling. Over the last several decades, climatologists have found that Arctic
regions, in particular, have been affected most ecologically, for overall global increased temperature
changes resulting from greenhouse gas emissions. Landscapes in the Arctic have change
dramatically over the last decade alone. As tundra has thawed earlier than seasonally normal, and
Arctic ice has melted in oceans year around
