FIDIC stands for a French name FГ©dГ©ration Internationale des IngГ©nieurs Conseils , which
can be best translated into The International Federation of Consulting Engineers . The importance
of FIDIC comes from the fact that FIDIC controls the majority of projects around the world even
US projects outside the states.
Claim management is an integral part of the construction process. Construction industry is uniquely
complex of its nature. Since, prefect specifications and drawings don t exist in real world, then

God is the creator, sustainer, judge, and redeemer. However, the most important characteristic of
God is love. Love is an admirable quality. Genesis is an account of God s magnificent creations.
God saw that everything he created was good. The book of Genesis focuses on six persons and
their families: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. God blessed man and all of his
creations. For a moment, God s creation was as He intended; paradise. Man sinnedand God became
unhappy, but he still provided for his people. God wanted man to repent. He still wanted things to
be good once again. Noah was of the few good people on earth. Noah was obedient and honored

Isaiah prophesized that people should obey and trust in the Lord. God trusted that Isaiah would
inform people that He was with them and that His love endures forever. In Isaiah Chapter 65 66,
god revealed himself to simmers. He said they would be judged both for good and evil. God just
wanted the people to be obedient. As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you. God is
admirable because He once again was giving people another chance. As the new heavens and the
new earth that I make will endure before me, declares the Lord, so will your name and
descendents endure. Isaiah 66:22. God is to be admired in that in Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6. God
prophesized though Isaiah about the birth of a boy who would be great. God through Isaiah
offers future hope for the nation of Israel. Jesus would be the difference between light and
darkness, life and death. Anyone who offers hope of a better future is a person who we would look
up to and respect and that is God. God is always admirable in everything that I have known him to
do. He protects us as we are his children. He is hard on us sometimes, but is always loving towards
us. God is to be respected because he wanted his people to be obedient and live holy. He judged but
he has never given up and always gives us chances to repent. We are his creation, though a work in

Creating An Effective Search Strategy
The first step to creating an effective search strategy for this particular search strategy would be
to go over what kind of subjects we will be covering as we work to complete the search strategy
together. Providing him with this information will help him to understand why we are going
through these steps and help him to stay on track while we are completing them. As we go through
this search strategy we are going to cover formulating an effective researchquestion, virtual
reference collections, finding sources, Google search, website evaluation, and plagiarism. Once we
have discussed our plan for completing this search strategy the next step would be to formulate
their research question. Formulating an effective research... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The next step would be to show the student how where they access this collection and how to
search for materials. I demonstrate how to use these collections by searching for some materials
that have organized into the grade 5 age appropriate category. Once in this category I can show
him how to search through this material in order to find items that contain information about his
chosen subject. The next research tool that will be discussed is the Google search. Since the
student is in grade 5 he probably already knows a great deal about using Google since it is a very
popular tool for people of all ages. What I will be teaching him is how to find the best results using
Google search. I will show him that refining your search using key terms can help you to find the
most useful information faster and with ease. After providing this explanation I will encourage the
student to try searching for some research materials by using the key words we came with together
in his Google search. Unfortunately though using the internet as a research tool does have its
dangers. After the student has finished his Google search using the key terms I will take some time
to talk to him about the importance of evaluation. Some websites present opinion as fact and using
this kind of information can have damaging effects on your research and your finished product.

Richard Linklater s Boyhood Was A Super Hit American...
Paper Two: Boyhood Director and producer, Richard Linklater s Boyhood was a super hit American
drama film that was released in the United States in July 11, 2014. Boyhood, to this date is still one
of my most favorite movies. It is taken place over a course of ten to eleven years (2002 2013). It is
about a boynamed Mason Evans Jr. who lives with his older sister Samantha Evans, and his
single mother Olivia Evans. Mason s father, Mason Evans Sr. had great impact to Mason Jr.
throughout his childhood. What s spectacular about this movie is that the same actors and
actresses were used all throughout the time span. Mason grew up how many ordinary boys do
with divorced parents. His mother would get into relationships with other men, but never choose
to go back with Mason s father. The family moves to Houston and his father would sometimes
come visit and take him and his sister out to places. It would be easier for Mason if his father
and mother got back together which unfortunately doesn t happen. You could say that Mason
struggles with life as he grows up. He goes through family problems, financial problems, peer
pressure, relationship problems, breakups, etc. Now, many teenage boys experience at least one of
these problems. That s just life. Mason doesn t have to go through too much financial problems,
just probably one main one every family goes through financial problems once in a while. Mason
has family problems because his parents are divorced and his mother

Compare And Contrast Maria And Olivia
Share our similarities, celebrate our differences M. Scott Peck. When two humans from
different lifestyles along with even being in two separate books have so much in common that s
when people will start to look into the differences a bit more. Everybody has theses things about
them that make it where no one even if they were twins would have the exact same idea for
every tiny detail about themselves. If everyone in this world was the same as the person next to
them could you think of how boring this word would be? This earth would be unlike it is right
now so instead of everyone having their own life and things that make them special no it would
just be the same thing over and over again like you are just out of a copy machine. Therefore...

Maria looks up to Fatima, just like an older sister. She even called Fatima, sister at the end of the
book. Even though Maria didn t really talk a lot in the first half of the book she took time in her
work and because of that she had a wonderful imagination. Olivia looks up to Isabel her sister just
as Maria did to Fatima. Olivia also likes to go and dance to any music that she may hear. She
likes to make up her own moves and just like Maria this shows how much imagination she really
has. Even with similarities these two girls also have some unique differences in their character
traits. These girls may have some in common but their character traits are quite different from
each other. Maria is brave because she didn t make the carpet that was assigned to her instead
she made one with a kite. She is also Independent because at the beginning of the book she kept
to herself and didn t speak. Finally, she s loving because she never left Fatimas side when she
needed help. Olivia just like Maria is Loving and would do anything for her family. Olivia is
caring for when Isabel would get in trouble with their dad, Olivia would do something funny and
try to make Isabel happy again. She is outgoing too, because she would try to make friends with
everyone and didn t care who watched her while she danced. Lastly, she is adaptable because when
they moved to their aunt s house at the beginning of the book she adapted

Human Perception of Other Species
KEY QUESTION: HOW HAS HUMAN PERCEPTION OF OTHER SPECIES AND THEIR
NEEDS LED TO CHANGES IN ECOSYSTEM IMBALANCE? INTRODUCTION: The ability to
survive and reproduce by living organisms is constantly being tested by its external environment.
Organisms those are unable to cope up with these changing external factors, face extinction. Over
the years, species have evolved with the changing environmental conditions and have incurred
adaptations to suit their existence in their environment. Hence, the process of evolution, adaptation
and extinction of species has been natural over time. This does not affect the ecosystem much
because nature on its own has an ability to compensate for its losses and changes that are natural.
This is where we, Humans come in. Humans by instinct have a tendency to modify, to exploit their
environment to suit their needs. That is, more than adapting to the environment, their rate of
converting the environment to suit requirements is incomparably higher. This reverse phenomenon
is what causes the depletion of other species which are unable to adapt to the unnatural, fast
changes. Nature is ineffectual in recompensing for these artificial changes which further increases
the rate of extinction of species resulting in ecosystem imbalance. The scientists have predicted that
we are presently undergoing the sixth mass extinction on the history of earth, mainly due to human
activities and their effects. Human perception of their

The North and South in Antebellum United States
The North and South in Antebellum United States In the time just before the Civil War, the United
States was one of the most successful nations in the world. The United States had become the world
s leading cotton producing country and had developed industry, which would in the future, surpass
that of Great Britain. Also, the United Statespossessed an advanced railroad and transportation
system. However, despite its successes, the United States was becoming increasingly divided. The
North and the South had many distinct differences in terms of their social, cultural, and economic
characteristics that brought about sectionalism and, eventually, the Civil War. The North s social
structure was very different from that of the South.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Factories in the North attracted former subsistence farmers because it was more efficient to buy
food rather than to grow it. Systems like the Lowell System employed young women, provided
them with room and board, and paid the women for their work in the factory. With the rise of
numerous new American inventions, machines became more efficient and the United States had
soon developed one of the best industrial economies in the world. Because of the need for effective
transportation to distribute goods, new forms of transportation such as elaborate railroad and canal
systems emerged. The south, on the other hand, clung to the slave based plantation system. The
economy was based largely on the production of raw materials, mainly cotton. Eli Whitney s cotton
gin allowed the cultivation of short staple cotton to bring Southern planters great success. Because
the cotton industry was so lucrative, Southerners had no reason to become industrialized. However,
the industrial economy of the North and the agrarian economy of the South led to a colonial
relationship between the two, meaning that the South sold raw materials to the North in exchange
for manufactured goods. The system put the South in an inferior position to the North, which
obviously upset Southerners and led to greater tension between the two regions. In the years prior
to the Civil War, the Northern and Southern regions of the U.S.

Our Responsibility to Enlightenment
Immanuel Kant, a well known philosopher and writer, once said in his essay An Answer to the
Question: What is Enlightenment?, Nothing is required for this enlightenment, however, except
freedom; and the freedom to question is the least harmful of all, namely, the freedom to use
reason publicly in all matters. But on all sides I hear: Do not argue! The officer says, Do not
argue, drill! The tax man says, Do not argue, pay! The pastor says, Do not argue, believe!
Throughout his essay, and many other works, there is a call to throw off the shackles of blind
acceptance and come into a new light of reason and continuous questioning and analysis. This is
the basis for modern science; what we cannot explain, we explore, and even that which we are
certain of is subject to discussion, debate, and open criticism. In our culture there has been a tacit
compliance to allow knowledge and debate fall to the back burners, behind what experts say and
what we read in the newspaper or hear on the television. There has been an unspoken agreement
with the media, the churches, the government, and even college institutions saying: We don t care
to learn or understand. Just tell us what we need to know to survive, and here s what money we
have (plus much that we don t) for you to tell us these things. I would respectfully, but vehemently
disagree with this status quo. As I will continue to emphasize, reason, debate, and discussion are the
paths to knowledge and change that we

Essay on Richard Wright
Richard Wright
Whenever I thought of the essential bleakness of black life in America, I knew that Negroes had
never been allowed to catch the full spirit of Western civilization, that they lived somehow in it but
not of it. And when I brooded upon the cultural barrenness of black life, I wondered if clean,
positive tenderness, love, honor, loyalty, and the capacity to remember were native with man. I
asked myself if these human qualities were not fostered, won, struggled and suffered for, preserved
in ritual from one generation to another. This passage written in Black Boy, the autobiography of
Richard Wright shows the disadvantages of Black people in the 1930 s. A man of many words,
Richard Wrights is the father of the modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One book of particular interest to Richard was H.L. Menken s Book of Prefaces, it was a basis to
a majority of his own writings. Richard traveled around the country picking up odd jobs but these
jobs didn t meet his standards, they didn t exercise his abilities. Hence Richard decided to enter the
political arena. After being refused from both the Democratic and Republican parties.....Richard
entered the Communist party after hearing of there efforts to promote equality among races.
While in the Communist Party, Richard s writings began to have a direct influence on many
people. He was a leading contributor to the magazine and newspapers Daily Worker and New
Masses which held very controversial beliefs for the time. His novels, Uncle Tom s Children
(1938) and Native Son (1940) were written while he was in the party. Richard was one of a few
black men in the Communist Party and it was because of him that many black American s began to
look to the Communist Party. Because of a lack of results and his outspoken militancy, Wright
broke away from the party in 1944. The essay, The God that Failed , gives an oversight to why
Richard disagreed with the Communist party. According to the Communist Party, Richard was not
writing about what they wanted such as ways to come together and fight against others,he was
reflecting the life of the black American and the Communists found this to have little importance to
what they were trying to portray.

Morality in Cannery Row by John Steinbeck
In society, people value morality as a human quality. People learn their values from when they are
young from various sources. However, who is to say what is necessarily right and wrong? Values
and morality can have different meanings, especially if placed in the context of a distorted
materialistic society. In Cannery Row, John Steinbeckreminds people about this important theme
and how it applies on a bigger scale. The setting of the story is Cannery Row, located in
Monterey, California. Steinbeck s choice of setting is significant in that it fully captures the
breadth of humanity. On the one hand, it is an area that represents the thriving sardine industry.
On the other, it is also an area where the lower classes, including bums and whores could live. In
actuality, the story is not really about the sardine industry at all, but is rather a collection of short
stories that are all unified about the same theme, the quality and meaning of life. The main plot
of this novel is centered on Doc, a marine biologist. It begins when Mack and the boys, Lee
Chong, and Dora throw a surprise party for him to show their appreciation and great reverence
towards him. By writing about the warm relationships between Doc and the inhabitants of Cannery
Row, Steinbeck uses these short stories as his way of talking about life on a bigger scale. In
essence, Cannery Row is John Steinbeck s personal philosophy on human importance, his take on
what humans should be like, and his

Sociology Course At Environmental Problems
The introduction to sociology course this semester turned out to be a very intriguing class. I had
prior knowledge and connection to the subject, but still I thoroughly enjoyed the class and feel
that I learned and developed further knowledge into the subject of sociology. Many of the topics,
discussions, and assignments I really enjoyed doing, and I am glad that the course turned out to
be as great as it was. Due to this, I choose to not write about any activities or topics that I didn t
enjoy learning, because all in all, I really enjoyed everything about this course. I have a connection
to sociologysince a young age, and I very much enjoy studying all the topics we have learned thus
far in this intro class. To write about assignments or topics that I didn t like would be hard for me
because I would have to make up excuses to why I didn t enjoy something discussed. My favorite
topic that we discussed in class was environmental problems. I really enjoy looking at
environmental problems and the implications that arise in society stemming from the
environmental problems in our world. We discussed the types of pollution and the complications
that come from the different types of pollution. I really enjoy learning more about the topic of
environmental change, because I already consider myself to be fairly interested in the topic prior to
its discussion in class. We also talked about the social movements backing environmental change. I

The Great Depression In The United States During The 1920 s
during the 1920 s to a point that most industries were making so much of everything that there was
a limit to that amount that could be sold.
This was also compounded with a sense of isolationism that most Americans had during this time
that led to protective tariffs that were enacted. Goods coming into the U.S. from around the world
were so expensive that most Americans would not/could not buy them. This in turn hurt the other
economies and limited the amount of American goods that they could purchase. Thus, more
overproduction.
Speculation by not only individuals but banks also led to the Depression. Individuals did not buy

In itself this was a terrible event, but from which recovery was possible. The problem was there
were too many other variables that were working against the US at the same time (the ones I
listed above). When all of these events happened the US tried to call in loans from around the
world but it was too late. The economic crisis had become one that was no longer bound to the
confines of the US.
The way the Great Depression ended is not as easy to pinpoint. The New Deal established by
Franklin Roosevelt was instrumental in returning a sense of security to the citizens of the US. Bank
Holidays gave the American people time to cool off and calm themselves about the turbulent
banking crisis. This helped to stop bank runs which had shut down many banks.
Implementation of the many programs of the New Deal also helped the economy. The FDIC
(Insurance on bank deposits), the CCC (Jobs for young unemployed men to work on national
parks), the SSA (social security for disabled and elderly), TVA (provided jobs, water and
electricity to underprivileged Southern areas) and several other programs gave hope to the
American people. There was still much that needed to be done and Roosevelt had many

The Task of Keeping a Driver Sober
There are many reasons people drink, however keeping a driver sober can be a monumental task.
Often times drunk driving ends grimly. Every 51 minutes on average, someone is killed in a
drunk driving crash, 10,322 people died in 2012 due as a result of drunk driving (http:/
/www.madd.org/drunk driving/). Many programs and laws have spawned in hopes of reducing the
number of drunk drivers on the road. These programs raise awareness on the results of drunk driving
; however they lack a probable preventative solution. Through alternate practices and more
awareness, drunk driving may be aided in reduction.
Drunk Driving should be stopped as it can result in permanent injury and trauma to various body
parts such the spinal cord. Some victims are lucky to still be partially mobile, using canes and
walkers in aide whilst moving. In many cases Driving Under the Influence (DUI) victims are lucky
to be alive as often times these accidents end in death. Many times as explained by Gary Schuman
this will lead to a case of death insurance dispute in order to cover losses and opens up more debate

The Problems with Statutory Rape Essay examples
Many issues have come up with the laws surrounding statutory rape. Although the laws are in
place to help people, many people see them as unfair and they believe that there are changes that
could be made to help improve these laws. A major problem with statutory rape laws is that each
state has a different law. To help improve statutory rapelaws, all states should work together to
have a set of country wide laws, so that the states all have the same laws. With a few minor
improvements, the statutory rape laws would be problem free. The statutory rape laws in the

The laws that pertain to statutory rape are put in place to protect minors. However, the laws
have caused ethical issues in many states. An issue that comes up frequently is if two people are
dating and one is eighteen and one is sixteen. In the 20th century, these relationships were not as
common as they are now. Today, these relationships are found in many high schools across the
country. It is not uncommon for a ninth grader and an eleventh or twelfth grader to be in a
relationship in this day and age. The problem with these relationships are that there is normally
at least a two year age gap, if not more. If the people in these relationships engage in sexual
activities, which would not be uncommon, it becomes a case of statutory rape. For example, if
a couple had been dating for many years, and one partner was three years older than the other. As
soon as the older person turned eighteen, if this couple had any sexual contact it would become a
crime.(Kempner) In society today, it would not be uncommon for a couple who had been together
for many years to be sexually active with each other. One would think that if it was a couple that
had been together for a long time and they were engaging in sexual activities that both people in
the relationship had both consented too that it would be okay, however, the law states it is not.

The Grapes of Wrath The Grapes of Wrath is set in the horrible stage of our American history,
the Depression. Economic, social, and historical surroundings separate the common man of
America into basically the rich and poor. A basic theme is that man turns against one another in
a selfish pride to only protect themselves. For example, the landowners create a system in which
migrants are treated like animals and pushed along from one roadside camp to the next. They are
denied decent wages and forced to turn against their fellow scramblers to simply survive. The

Claude Debussy s Influence On 20th Century Music
It is not uncommon in music that a particular style or genre may share similar traits with another
completely different musical genre. In fact, this happens quite often, and much like other forms of
art, different types of music influence each other regularly and co exist to create newer forms of
music. A brilliant example of this is demonstrated through the musicof Claude Debussy and his
widespread influence on 20th century music. Considered one of the fathers of impressionistic
music (a title he personally disapproved of), Debussy s selection of harmony opened an entirely
new realm of harmonic possibilities that hadn t existed previously. Through the implementation of
extended harmonies and flowing non diatonic melodies (among other techniques) he carved a
unique soundcompletely different from his contemporaries. One of the genres his music inspired
was Jazz. Debussy s usage of harmony and modulation was highly influential on many of the Jazz
greats including Duke... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Somewhat unconventional, Debussy employed several techniques that composers before him had
explored, but he delved with a level of detail that none had accomplished previously. Thoroughly
aware of the diatonic system, Debussy sought to build upon it. He had a fascination with exotic
harmonies as demonstrated through his work. At its core, the diatonic system is used to classify
harmonies in a particular key (or set of keys), but Debussy added altered and extended harmonies
such as 9ths and 13ths that provided extra coloring to his chords. Sharpening 9ths, 11ths and 13ths
created tension, flattening them created even more tension, and leaving them natural provided
stronger consonance. His treatment of diatonic harmony strongly correlated to his implementation
with bitonality and polytonality. Debussy would superimpose major or minor triads on top of 7th
chords to extend his harmonies and suggest multiple key

Orthopedic Impairment Analysis
On Friday morning I woke up at 7:00 a.m. and did not use my right arm to accomplish all my
morning tasks, which took a lot longer to accomplish. I went from my bedroom to the bathroom
and back to the bedroom then downstairs and out to the car. I got a ride to class and was able to
open the door fine and did not have to deal with driving and changing gears with one hand. I went
to Andre s building and used the handicap button to open the door. I walked through Andre s and

The Hamilton Case Study
On September 15th, 2001 four days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, a lawless
arson of a Hindu temple and vandalism of a Mosque took place in Hamilton (The Hamilton
Spectator 2014). According to The Hamilton Spectator (2014), it was during the early hours of
September 15th, 2001 when three men, Christopher Pollard, Scott Ryan, and Damien Marsh drove
to a Muslim mosque than a Hindu temple in Hamilton where they destroyed both places of worship
(The Hamilton Spectator2014). It was Pollard s 21st birthday as the men were reported celebrating at
various bars and were seemingly intoxicated (The Hamilton Spectator 2014). The three men drove

The first aspect, is that the Mosque vandalism and temple fire occurred four days after the 9/11
attack in the United States. The attack in the United States was an act of terrorism and many
pinned the blame on the Muslim community for the many lives that were lost. Therefore, given the
fact that Hamilton has the second highest rate of hate crimes against minority groups, it is likely
that the fire and vandalism were a response to the 9/11 attack as both places that were targeted were
sacred to minority groups. In addition, the perpetrators actions along with the places they targeted
conveys the message of you do not belong here , as the literal burning of the temple eradicates its
existence within society. The second aspect that plays a vital role in this case, is that two places of
worship were targeted. The first being a Muslim Mosque and than a Hindu Temple. The fact that the
perpetrators could have confused the temple to be a mosque illustrates that the three men were
trying to target a specific group. Additionally, it is important to note that the men had to drive from
the mosque to the temple, thus indicating that they had a certain motive in mind. Furthermore, the
fact that the men targeted two religious institutions illustrates that they were trying to hurt minority
groups where they are the most vulnerable the most, a place that is sacred to them. The third aspect
that is vital to this case is that the perpetrators left beer bottles behind. It is because of these beer
bottles that helped the police capture the correct culprits. If the DNA on the beer bottles were not
present these three men would have never been captured. The fourth aspect of this case that I
believe is important, is that the Hindu community forgave the three men. The fact that the Hindu
community could forgive the men that destroyed their place of worship illustrates the

CASE: BRANT FREEZER COMPANY
Question 1: When comparing performance during the first five months of 2004 with performance
in 2003, which warehouse shows the most improvement?
St. Louis is the only one showing any improvement, using cost per unit shipped as the
performance criterion. The cost for the first five months of 2003 was $9.97 and for the first five
months of 2004, it fell to $9.07.
Question 2: When comparing performance during the first five months of 2004 with performance

Hydrogels were the first biomaterials developed to use in the human body (KopeДЌek, 2007). As
stated by Sood et. al (2009), hydrogels are a very complex hydrophilic organic cross linked
polymers which consist of between 80 and 90% water base. An example of a commercial
hydrogel is IntraSiteВ® Gel, developed by Smith and Nephew, shown in Figure 1 below.
IntraSiteВ® Gel is an amorphous hydrogel and gently rehydrates necrotic tissues, helping autolytic
debridement, and also is able to loosen and absorb slough and exudate (Smith nephew.com,
2015).Hydrogels are able to absorb a minimum amount of fluid by swelling, in addition they can
moisturize a dry wound, thereby promoting autolytic debridement and providing a moist thermally
insulated wound. In addition, they are capable to reduce the temperature of a wound by up to
5В°C and promote epithelialization and granulation. However, since they are permeable to gas and
water, they are considered less effective bacterial barrier than occlusive dressings (Sood et. al
2009). The main applications of hydrogels are the ability to donate moisture to the wound, help
disintegrate dry and dead tissue, and keep wound bed moist to help cell growth (Covidien.com,

antibacterial agents. Regarding their drawbacks, they are unable to

Battle Of Salamis Essay
In 480 BCE, after several years hiatus, the Greeks and Persians took to the straits of Salamis to
engage for the first time in a decade in the fourth battle of the Persian Wars. The battle of Salamis
represented a turning point in the Persians Wars, and marks the point where it was no longer
possible for the Persians to succeed in their conquest of Greece.
A key player in the Battle of Salamis was Xerxes I, the king of Persia. Xerxes was born to the
Persian king Darius I and Atossa, daughter of Cyrus I, around 519 BCE (Watts). Atossa was
determined that Xerxes should succeed Darius, despite Xerxes having older siblings from a
previous wife of Darius (Watts). Shortly after Darius failed his first attack on Athens in 490, Atossa

their father was instead a private citizen (Watts). Shortly after,... Show more content on

Argumentative Essay On Anti Depressants
Depression is a serious mental disorder that may be displayed by major episodes of sadness,
restlessness, and loss of interest. Depression has several symptoms such as excessive sleep,
increased or loss of appetite, aches, cramps, insomnia, and fatigue. It can affect anyone of all ages
and may not be recognizable for those who are experiencing it. A medication called anti depressants
helps treat depression by altering the serotoninreceptors levels. There are several types of anti
depressant medications such as Abilify, Celexa, Aplenzin, Asendin, and many more. There are
individuals that may argue that anti depressants are an over prescribed medications. They believe
that this medication can affect the patient s mental status and inhibit self control with this addictive
drug. On the other hand, the opposition may argue that anti depressants are not overly prescribed
and that it should not be problematic because it is an accessible, helpful, and a quicker treatment.
The debate of whether anti depressants are an over prescribed medication has been an ongoing
controversial issue as evidenced by statements of supporters and those in opposition.
According to Wehrwein (2011), statistics usage of antidepressants demonstrated that 23% of
women between ages of 40 to 50 take antidepressants as compared to other age groups. Wehrwein
mentioned that 14% of non Hispanic white people use antidepressants more often compared to 4%
of Hispanics and 3% of Mexican Americans.

with capital resources such as skills learned and specific knowledge pertaining to certain

A Look into Some Causes, Effects, and Possible Solutions of Deforestation in the Global
Environment
I.Introduction With society s demand and need for the earth s resources, deforestation has long
been a prevalent environmental issue at hand and has picked up significant momentum more
recently. Deforestation occurs around the world, however, according to GRID Arendal, it is most
prevalent in areas with tropical rainforests such as Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, the Democratic
Republic of Congo and other parts of Africa, and parts of Eastern Europe (Szalay 1). For a
number of reasons, trees are being cleared at massive levels resulting in poor quality land and
have created negative effects and impacts on the global environment. Since deforestation is caused
by both human and natural factors such as wildfires and overgrazing, it is difficult to completely
pinpoint one cause ( Deforestation 1). However, researching and looking at which causes are most
impactful can help deduce possible solutions to help prevent unnecessary and excessive tree
clearing. It is important to look into solutions to help prevent deforestation because it is negatively
impacting the world s environment and making it difficult for certain animals, such as birds, and
even humans to maintain their standard of living and their quality of life. And so, in an attempt to
delve a bit deeper with regards to deforestation, this paper will

Analysis Of The Cohen Brother s Film True Grit
It is always a challenge for filmmakers to take a beloved character from literature and bring him or
her to life. There is not enough time to do an adequate amount of characterization, which is why
many films fail to accurately portray a character. The Cohen Brother s film True Grit, an adaptation
of the novelby Charles Portis, created a better portrayal of the characterof Mattie Ross, the feisty,
head strong, and tough young girl. Through costume and set design, as well as the narrativechoices
the directors chose to take, the resilient, no nonsense, bratty young girl was brought to life.
In the book, Mattie Ross is a very feisty, head strong, and tough young girl. Mattie does not let
her age get in the way of anything she sets off to do and is never afraid to give some lip when
needed. These characteristics are shown in the novel in scenes like her first introduction with
LaBoeuf. He threatens to hit her with his belt and she replies, Put a hand on me and you will
answer for it...the good people of Arkansas do not go easy on men who abuse women and
children (76) . She is a 14 year old girl standing up for herself against a grown man, which is
something most adults can struggle with. This scene is an example that gives the readers a look
into who Mattie is as a person, which the Cohen brothers did a very good job of capturing. In the
Cohen Brother s version mise en scene was used so effectively that it was like the Mattie in the
book was on screen. The costume

bond may be ethnic or racial, based on gender, or due to shared beliefs, values, and activities.
Culture is an organized system because it ties many parts together that are interconnected to all
function as one but almost every nation. The United Statesand Nigeriaare no exceptions to having in
a culture, however, the people in these countries sometimes base their knowledge of each other
solely on what is shown in the media. Culture shock is real and this essay covers some of Nigeria
s belief as a country, how I made assumptions about America based on what I saw on television, and
the differences between these two unique countries.
The United States media especially portrays Africa as a country instead of a continent, they show
malnourished children on television begging for food to eat and water to drink. This image gives
everyone who is watching a false sense of how great Africa is. Robert Moore s article racism in the
English Language explains that often using words like natives to describe Africans can be
degrading and offensive. Africa is the second largest continent that is made up of 54 unique
countries, each having their own states and capitals. Even though there might be

Perspectives on China
In February of 2012, as I was reviewing the information about the Darden s GEMBA program,
specifically the locations of the global residencies, it was hard for me to be excited about going
to China. It would be my sixth time visiting the country. At the time, I was hoping for a more
unique location, somewhere where I had not been, yet somewhere where, from a business
perspective it would be a valid place to go. How about Japan or South Korea, I pondered.
But no, it was China, a place that I explored on multiple occasions, and a place I learned to like. To
make things worse, the destinations cities where the most obvious: Shanghai and Beijing. What
else is out there, that I have not seen and what else I can learn from visiting it again? My ... Show

Shanghai welcomed me with a taxi driver who refused to show me his meter readout, hijacked my
cell phone until I promised to pay him the outrageous taxi fee (long story culminating in me not
paying him the outrageous fee), throwing my suitcase of his trunk and driving off with his trunk up
so I could not capture his license plate. Not a bad start, I thought maybe I learn something after all.
Tia Zi Feng was everything I expected, crowded, cobble stone streets with many tiny shops,
cafes, and art galleries. My host Jamie, who had a New Zealand souvenir store at the bottom of
the studio was very welcoming. My first night he invited me to join him and a few fellow
Westerners to a Shanghai style restaurant situated in an old local style mansion. The experience
was wonderful; and I had a chance to meet some interesting yet very different people; from a yoga
/photographer woman from Minnesota, who was just finishing her three year Asian adventure to
an English teacher from Ohio, to an software entrepreneur from Oregon. Impressively they were
all more or less fluent in Mandarin, which I greeted with envy as my one and a half years of
learning the language had been not the most fruitful to say the least.
But then it was time to go and meet the GEMBA 13. It was so exciting to see the guys again. The
schedule looked intense and I started to think, contrary to my previous assertion, that I may learn
something.

Radon Essay
Radon
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive element that can be found in soil, underground water,
and outdoor air. Some of the properties of this gas include being odorless, tasteless, and colorless.
The concentrations vary throughout the country depending on the types of rocks that are found in
the soil. Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with
an increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or
above their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l
(pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon).
Exposures below this level may create a risk of lung cancer, farther reductions to lower levels may
be too difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being
generated.(13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also
found dissolved in water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15)
Radon in Water
The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the
water must be heated or agitated to release the gas.
This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public
water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site
and the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon
comes from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains
hazardous amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on
air.(16)
Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon
from the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be
treated at the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less
effective at removing the risk.(17)
Radon Entry
Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and
homes.

The book of Genesis focuses on six persons and their families: Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. God blessed man and all of his creations. For a moment, God s creation was as He intended; paradise. Man sinnedand God became unhappy, but he still provided for his people. God wanted man to repent. The next research tool that will be discussed is the Google search. Since the student is in grade 5 he probably already knows a great deal about using Google since it is a very popular tool for people of all ages. What I will be teaching him is how to find the best results using Google search. • 6. Richard Linklater s Boyhood Was A Super Hit American... Paper Two: Boyhood Director and producer, Richard Linklater s Boyhood was a super hit American drama film that was released in the United States in July 11, 2014. Boyhood, to this date is still one of my most favorite movies. It is taken place over a course of ten to eleven years (2002 2013). It is about a boynamed Mason Evans Jr. who lives with his older sister Samantha Evans, and his single mother Olivia Evans. Mason s father, Mason Evans Sr. had great impact to Mason Jr. throughout his childhood. What s spectacular about this movie is that the same actors and actresses were used all throughout the time span. Mason grew up how many ordinary boys do with divorced parents. His mother would get into relationships with other men, but never choose to go back with Mason s father. The family moves to Houston and his father would sometimes come visit and take him and his sister out to places. It would be easier for Mason if his father and mother got back together which unfortunately doesn t happen. You could say that Mason struggles with life as he grows up. He goes through family problems, financial problems, peer pressure, relationship problems, breakups, etc. Now, many teenage boys experience at least one of these problems. That s just life. Mason doesn t have to go through too much financial problems, just probably one main one every family goes through financial problems once in a while. • 8. Human Perception of Other Species KEY QUESTION: HOW HAS HUMAN PERCEPTION OF OTHER SPECIES AND THEIR NEEDS LED TO CHANGES IN ECOSYSTEM IMBALANCE? INTRODUCTION: The ability to survive and reproduce by living organisms is constantly being tested by its external environment. Organisms those are unable to cope up with these changing external factors, face extinction. Over the years, species have evolved with the changing environmental conditions and have incurred adaptations to suit their existence in their environment. Hence, the process of evolution, adaptation and extinction of species has been natural over time. This does not affect the ecosystem much because nature on its own has an ability to compensate for its losses and changes that are natural. This is where we, Humans come in. Humans by instinct have a tendency to modify, to exploit their environment to suit their needs. That is, more than adapting to the environment, their rate of converting the environment to suit requirements is incomparably higher. This reverse phenomenon is what causes the depletion of other species which are unable to adapt to the unnatural, fast changes. Nature is ineffectual in recompensing for these artificial changes which further increases the rate of extinction of species resulting in ecosystem imbalance. The scientists have predicted that we are presently undergoing the sixth mass extinction on the history of earth, mainly due to human activities and their effects. Human perception of their ... The North and South in Antebellum United States The North and South in Antebellum United States In the time just before the Civil War, the United States was one of the most successful nations in the world. The United States had become the world s leading cotton producing country and had developed industry, which would in the future, surpass that of Great Britain. Also, the United Statespossessed an advanced railroad and transportation system. However, despite its successes, the United States was becoming increasingly divided. Factories in the North attracted former subsistence farmers because it was more efficient to buy food rather than to grow it. Systems like the Lowell System employed young women, provided them with room and board, and paid the women for their work in the factory. With the rise of numerous new American inventions, machines became more efficient and the United States had soon developed one of the best industrial economies in the world. Because of the need for effective transportation to distribute goods, new forms of transportation such as elaborate railroad and canal systems emerged. The south, on the other hand, clung to the slave based plantation system. The economy was based largely on the production of raw materials, mainly cotton. Eli Whitney s cotton gin allowed the cultivation of short staple cotton to bring Southern planters great success. Because the cotton industry was so lucrative, Southerners had no reason to become industrialized. However, the industrial economy of the North and the agrarian economy of the South led to a colonial relationship between the two, meaning that the South sold raw materials to the North in exchange for manufactured goods. The system put the South in an inferior position to the North, which obviously upset Southerners and led to greater tension between the two regions. • 10. Our Responsibility to Enlightenment Immanuel Kant, a well known philosopher and writer, once said in his essay An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment?, Nothing is required for this enlightenment, however, except freedom; and the freedom to question is the least harmful of all, namely, the freedom to use reason publicly in all matters. But on all sides I hear: Do not argue! The officer says, Do not argue, drill! The tax man says, Do not argue, pay! The pastor says, Do not argue, believe! Throughout his essay, and many other works, there is a call to throw off the shackles of blind acceptance and come into a new light of reason and continuous questioning and analysis. This is the basis for modern science; what we cannot explain, we explore, and even that which we are certain of is subject to discussion, debate, and open criticism. In our culture there has been a tacit compliance to allow knowledge and debate fall to the back burners, behind what experts say and what we read in the newspaper or hear on the television. There has been an unspoken agreement with the media, the churches, the government, and even college institutions saying: We don t care to learn or understand. Just tell us what we need to know to survive, and here s what money we have (plus much that we don t) for you to tell us these things. I would respectfully, but vehemently disagree with this status quo. As I will continue to emphasize, reason, debate, and discussion are the paths to knowledge and change that we ... I asked myself if these human qualities were not fostered, won, struggled and suffered for, preserved in ritual from one generation to another. • 14. Morality in Cannery Row by John Steinbeck In society, people value morality as a human quality. People learn their values from when they are young from various sources. However, who is to say what is necessarily right and wrong? Values and morality can have different meanings, especially if placed in the context of a distorted materialistic society. In Cannery Row, John Steinbeckreminds people about this important theme and how it applies on a bigger scale. The setting of the story is Cannery Row, located in Monterey, California. Steinbeck s choice of setting is significant in that it fully captures the breadth of humanity. On the one hand, it is an area that represents the thriving sardine industry. On the other, it is also an area where the lower classes, including bums and whores could live. In actuality, the story is not really about the sardine industry at all, but is rather a collection of short stories that are all unified about the same theme, the quality and meaning of life. The main plot of this novel is centered on Doc, a marine biologist. It begins when Mack and the boys, Lee Chong, and Dora throw a surprise party for him to show their appreciation and great reverence towards him. By writing about the warm relationships between Doc and the inhabitants of Cannery Row, Steinbeck uses these short stories as his way of talking about life on a bigger scale. • 22. Claude Debussy s Influence On 20th Century Music It is not uncommon in music that a particular style or genre may share similar traits with another completely different musical genre. In fact, this happens quite often, and much like other forms of art, different types of music influence each other regularly and co exist to create newer forms of music. A brilliant example of this is demonstrated through the musicof Claude Debussy and his widespread influence on 20th century music. Considered one of the fathers of impressionistic music (a title he personally disapproved of), Debussy s selection of harmony opened an entirely new realm of harmonic possibilities that hadn t existed previously. Through the implementation of extended harmonies and flowing non diatonic melodies (among other techniques) he carved a unique soundcompletely different from his contemporaries. The attack in the United States was an act of terrorism and many pinned the blame on the Muslim community for the many lives that were lost. Therefore, given the fact that Hamilton has the second highest rate of hate crimes against minority groups, it is likely that the fire and vandalism were a response to the 9/11 attack as both places that were targeted were sacred to minority groups. In addition, the perpetrators actions along with the places they targeted conveys the message of you do not belong here , as the literal burning of the temple eradicates its existence within society. The second aspect that plays a vital role in this case, is that two places of worship were targeted. The first being a Muslim Mosque and than a Hindu Temple. The fact that the perpetrators could have confused the temple to be a mosque illustrates that the three men were trying to target a specific group. Additionally, it is important to note that the men had to drive from the mosque to the temple, thus indicating that they had a certain motive in mind. Furthermore, the fact that the men targeted two religious institutions illustrates that they were trying to hurt minority groups where they are the most vulnerable the most, a place that is sacred to them. The third aspect that is vital to this case is that the perpetrators left beer bottles behind. It is because of these beer bottles that helped the police capture the correct culprits. If the DNA on the beer bottles were not present these three men would have never been captured. The fourth aspect of this case that I believe is important, is that the Hindu community forgave the three men. As stated by Sood et. al (2009), hydrogels are a very complex hydrophilic organic cross linked polymers which consist of between 80 and 90% water base. An example of a commercial hydrogel is IntraSiteВ® Gel, developed by Smith and Nephew, shown in Figure 1 below. IntraSiteВ® Gel is an amorphous hydrogel and gently rehydrates necrotic tissues, helping autolytic debridement, and also is able to loosen and absorb slough and exudate (Smith nephew.com, 2015).Hydrogels are able to absorb a minimum amount of fluid by swelling, in addition they can moisturize a dry wound, thereby promoting autolytic debridement and providing a moist thermally insulated wound. However, since they are permeable to gas and water, they are considered less effective bacterial barrier than occlusive dressings (Sood et. al 2009). The main applications of hydrogels are the ability to donate moisture to the wound, help disintegrate dry and dead tissue, and keep wound bed moist to help cell growth (Covidien.com, 2015). Atossa was determined that Xerxes should succeed Darius, despite Xerxes having older siblings from a previous wife of Darius (Watts). Deforestation occurs around the world, however, according to GRID Arendal, it is most prevalent in areas with tropical rainforests such as Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, the Democratic Republic of Congo and other parts of Africa, and parts of Eastern Europe (Szalay 1). For a number of reasons, trees are being cleared at massive levels resulting in poor quality land and have created negative effects and impacts on the global environment. Since deforestation is caused by both human and natural factors such as wildfires and overgrazing, it is difficult to completely pinpoint one cause ( Deforestation 1). However, researching and looking at which causes are most impactful can help deduce possible solutions to help prevent unnecessary and excessive tree clearing. It is important to look into solutions to help prevent deforestation because it is negatively impacting the world s environment and making it difficult for certain animals, such as birds, and even humans to maintain their standard of living and their quality of life. This is because the water must be heated or agitated to release the gas. This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and the gas escapes into the atmosphere.
