Voice refers to whether a verb is active or passive. In the active voice, the subject performs the action, while in the passive voice the object receives the action. To change a sentence from active to passive voice, the object is moved to the subject position and the main verb is changed to the past participle with a form of "be" as the helping verb, along with retaining the original subject as an optional prepositional phrase introduced by "by".
