20 000 Leagues Under The Sea Essay
Jules Verne also uses real life examples in his stories. In 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Jules Verne
several times mentions Commander Matthew Fontaine Maury, Captain Maury in Verne s book, a real
life oceanographer who explored the winds, seas, currents, and collected sampled of the bottom of the
seas and charted oceans. Verne would have known of Matthew Maury s international fame and
perhaps Maur s French ancestry. References are made to other such Frenchmen as Jean François de
Galaup, comte de Lapérouse, a famous explorer who was lost while circumnavigating the globe;
Dumont D Urville, the explorer who found the remains of Lapérouse s ship; and Ferdinand Lesseps,

William Peery Fogg traveled the world, from 1869 and 1871, and wrote Round the World: Letters
from Japan, China, India, and Egypt. Other travelers include Pausanias who wrote Around the World,
Giovanni Francesco Gemelli Careri, who wrote Voyage around the World. The novel documents his
trip as one of the first Europeans to circle the world for pleasure rather than profit, using publicly
available transportation. Gemelli Careri provides rich accounts of seventeenth century civilization
outside of Europe. These include Persia during the Ottoman Empire, Hindustan during the reign of
Aurungzebe, the Chinese Lantern Festival and the Great Wall, and the native people of Mesoamerica.
References to his books can be found in other historical publications like the Calcutta Review. Thomas

An Essay On Aids Conspiracy Theory
AIDS is a creation of the CIA. The Berenstein/Berenstain Bears multiverse theory. Unexplained
events being a glitch in the matrix . These are just a few of the many conspiracy theories I have
investigated throughout the years. I don t necessarily believe in most of the conspiracy theories that I
peruse, but that doesn t deter me from reading about them. For as long as I can remember, I ve always
loved to examine things beyond face value, and to instead think of what it could be. Growing up,
whenever I would read the Harry Potter series, my mind raced with the elements of foreshadowing
and the nuanced references scattered throughout the book, such as all of Professor Trelawney s
prophecies coming true eventually and Voldemort s name meaning ... Show more content on

I would stay up late at night, completely invested in whatever theory enraptured me at the time. I was
insatiable every theory I read was inimitable in its own way, and every piece of evidence supporting or
debunking it only escalated my curiosity and quest for knowledge. In fact, many conspiracies led me
to gain a greater understanding of history in order to truly comprehend and gain a context for what I
was reading. For example, when I learned about the MKUltra Project where the CIA performed mind
control experiments on US citizens in the late 1940s and early 1950s I discovered that the experiments
took place near the beginning of the Cold War as a way to discover new methods of interrogation and
torture. Another theory that seems unlikely but also realistic claims that the CIA created HIV/AIDS in
order to wipe out African American, homosexual men in the 1980s a time when discrimination against
African Americans and homosexual men was still prominent. My interests led me to distant history, as
well such as claims of aliens helping the Egyptians built the Great Pyramids, the possibility that
Shakespeare was a woman, or the theory that a flying saucer crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in

An Analysis Of Dominic Pettman s The World Of The Planet...
Having a voice, whether it s a human or an animal, have a significance behind where it comes from,
where we get it from and what message it receives to another. In this case, to have a voice consist of
what it s used for and how it comes back to you in different reflections using sea and land animals and
humans. To have a voice in the planet we live, it involves with imitation, body language, melancholy
song with vocalization and similarities of the human species with the species of diverse animals and
vice versa. Dominic Pettman s, The Screech Within the Speech engages with the embodiment of the
human voice as it brushes against an animal in what Pettman calls vox mundi, or voice of the world.
Pettman begins with expressing the melancholy songs from whales and how it is personalized given
when they are lonely and more vocal when the ocean is at its loudest. I believe he then moves on to
the main objective to this piece: discovering the voice with vocalization and self reflection using
humans and different types of birds, explaining how compatible they both are using vocal expression
and body communication as a form of transmission and unintended imitation, resulting to a form of
conversation. Dominic Pettman, the author of this article, is a staff member of The New School in
New York City as the Chair of Liberal Studies, New school for Social Resources, a Professor of
Cultural and Media and is Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at The New School s Eugene Lang

The Causes Of Forced Migration In The Country Of Population
Forced migration is defined as, a general term that refers to the movements of refugees and internally
displaced people (those displaced by conflicts within their country of origin) as well as people
displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine, or development
projects (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, n.d.). Since the 1940, this issue has
risen steady and affects over a million individuals globally. In 2015, nine out of 1000 people were
evacuated by force (Bozorgmehr Razum, 2017). Health problems can become abundant among forced
migrants due to the vast amount of people dwelling within a small camp. Multiple diseases may begin
to fester among the refuge location because many people may bring the foreign illness to the location.
This may lead to new illnesses in a place that has not experienced that particular type of illness in that
area. Because majority of forced migrants are in such crowded quarters, diseases can proliferate
quickly throughout the population as a result of poor hygiene and sanitation. This leads to an increase
in health care demand; however, due to the increased amount of people in the vicinity these types of
services may be limited or unavailable to the individuals. A decrease or destruction of health care to
forced migrates can eventually lead to and increase mortality rate (Skolnik, 2016). Language and
cultural barriers may impact health care attainment for some individuals of forced

Anatomy of a Family Law Case
Anatomy of a Family Law Case Introduction The legal aspect of the law is a creation of the society
that is meant to regulate and control the activities and relations of people. Law creates a guideline of
how to do every activity without causing infringements to the other persons. Therefore, just as all
other societal institutions, the family setting are incorporated in the law. What is a family? The family
setting is one of the oldest institutions in the world. From the time of creation, to date, it has existed
firm within the society. It has hence come to be referred to as the cornerstone of society. In definition,
there are several factors that are considered to constitute a family. It is defined as a social group within
a society that consists of one or two parents with children (Stacey, 2011). These individuals share a
common ancestry. Additionally, it can also be used to portray people who have common goals and
values and have long term commitment to each other, and they reside in the same dwelling. What
constitutes a marriage? Marriage is a social practice that existed long before legal creations and
stipulations of what a marriage is was established. This is obvious as even before the religious books
and the legal institutions were established, people used to live and have children. This process was not
done without plans, but rather within a setting that created a sense of responsibility. However, a
marriage today is defined as a consensual and contractual

The Doctor-Patient Relationship Is The Primary Mode Of
The doctor patient relationship is the primary mode of cognition that is at the heart of the discourse of
medicine and bioethics. Healthcare is constructed around encounters between practitioners and
patients, and the relationship between them is integral to how the cultures of healing are at work and
represented in literature, in history and social sciences around the world. Life and mortality are two
great questions of being that perennially haunt the human existence; and physicians play the most
significant role in negotiating between the physical and the metaphysical worlds of being, suffering
and trying to find cure and comfort as long as life goes on. The cultures of healing across time, space
and nationality explored however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is Foucault s famous observation in The Birth of the Clinic ( as translated into English in 1973)
where he illustrates the doctor patient relationship in terms of power, and the subject object hierarchy.
The diseased body is in disorder, in a state of displacement, and its subjectivity is erased as it becomes
subject to the doctor s examination. In several literary works of the nineteenth century, such
representations of doctor patient relationship are to be found as corresponding to the Foucauldian
pattern, that is, turning the patient s subjectivity into an object of the doctor s authoritative gaze.
However, since Foucault himself has elsewhere insisted on the double meaning of subject (1982, 212),
it is possible to problematize the doctor patient relation and attempt to come to terms with one s own
subject object position within the established discourse of medical gaze. It is interesting, however, to
examine how literary representations of doctor patient relationships across cultures and nationalities
have interrogated the notion of seeing as an alternative mode of vision.
Opthalmology as a special branch of medical science established itself quite seriously in the Victorian
period. Wilkie Collins Poor Miss Finch (1872) is a medical surgical novel , and the surgery is operated
on the eye. Beneath the story

Effects Of Residential Schools In Canada
Residential schools were a place where thousands of Indigenous children would go to learn but instead
get abused very badly. Residential schools existed about a hundred years ago. These tragic schools
were established because European people wanted the Indigenous people of Canada to be assimilated
into Euro Canadian. The European people thought that their civilization was the greatest human
achievement. A lot of residential schools opened within Canada s provinces. Life at residential schools
was very cruel because the students got limited time to learn and more time to do exhausting chores.
The children also got brutally abused for various things including if they offend the nuns and priests
working in the schools. By the time the children had finished attending the residential schools they
had almost forgotten everything about their culture and traditions. Residential schools treated children
very poorly which caused some long lasting effects that still impact Indigenous people today. There
were a lot of residential schools in Canada and there were a variety of reasons why and how these
schools had opened. European settlers thought that the first habitants of Canada (the Indigenous
people) were ignorant, and like children they needed guidance. The first prime minister of Canada Sir
John A. McDonald commissioned a journalist and politician Nicholas Flood Davin to study industrial
schools, for the indigenous children, in the United States. Nicholas Flood Davin found

Essay about The Rocking Horse vs Lottery
Professor
ENGL 102 B54 LUO
3 February 2014 The Lottery vs. The Rocking Horse Winner
In The Rocking Horse Winner, by D. H. Lawrence, and The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, the two
authors illustrate symbols and themes throughout their stories in which one common idea is present:
perhaps winning is not always positive. The Rocking Horse Winner, by D.H. Lawrence is a fictional
story about a woman s obsession for money and the lack of love and affection she shows to her family.
Her son Paul hopes to change his mother s mind set in order to gain her love by becoming lucky. Paul
discovers a way to become lucky from a rocking horse that he receives as a Christmas present. He
perceives that this horse has magical powers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hester tells Paul that luck is what causes you to have money. If you re lucky you have money. That s
why it s better to be born lucky than rich. If you re rich you may lose money. But if you re lucky, you
will always have money. (236) This pushes Paul to desperately seek out luck so that his mother will be
grateful for her life and provide her family with the love and affection that they so rightfully deserve.
Paul believes his rocking horse is full of magical powers, which will help him achieve the luck he
needs to gain his mother s love. While Paul rides his rocking horse, the horse predicts the winning
horse and ends up making Paul an appalling amount of money. Paul gives his winnings to his mother
who squanders it on unnecessary materialistic things. He realizes that he must win more money to win
his mother s affections. He becomes mad and frantically searches for the next winner of the horse
races. On Paul s last ride to find the last winner of the horse race, he falls of the horse and eventually
dies.
Lawrence shows many points by applying these obvious symbols: the rocking horse and the
whispering house. The wooden rocking horse symbolizes the fantasy quest that Paul takes to attain
luck. This magical mysterious wooden horse also tells Paul who will win the horse races. The
whispering house symbolizes his mother s lust for money. The house constantly haunts Paul and his
siblings with the

African American Womanhood
African American women, often perceived as a sexual object or the Jezebel (the stereotype of white
man view of the black woman as loose and over sexed) have struggled to eliminate images that
promote sexual exploitation such as their promiscuity (showing off their breast, behind, legs, and
showing much of their skin on television, music videos and magazines) through the use of feminist
movements and the creation of the womanist movement. However, in modern day society, black
women have accepted these sexual ideas which were once considered to be dishonorable. The
acceptance of this image, a direct cause of social construction and suppressed oppression, has given
rise to a disturbed vision of black womanhood for years to come. Despite this, ... Show more content

While both Black and White women are subject to sexualized images, the white woman defines the
standard of the socially acceptable view of what it is to be a woman. Not being able to fit into that set
of stereotypes, Black women consequently become deemed as the other within their own gender. The
stereotypes formed for African American women were even more significantly derogatory than that of
the image of the submissive house slave. This ideology of the 19th century Eurocentric norm was to
objectify these woman as sexually promiscuous. By exaggerating their actions and portraying them
into a negative perception, these portrayals were designed to oppress these women and deem them
inferior to their female counterpart. Decades later, these images still have influence today in the
perceptions of the Black women and their bodies. A great example of this sexism and racism can be
seen in today s criticism about female sports athletes such as the six time U. S Open tennis champion
Serena Williams and her sister Venus. Both have been scrutinized and over sexualized and ridiculed by
today s media with remarks such as the sisters being too masculine , Gorilla like and Savage . She is

The Total Contribution Of Travel And Tourism Essay
Each Caribbean country is diverse and has its own natural resources and industries. These industries
include bauxite/alumina, agricultural processing, light manufacturing, rum, cement, metal, paper,
chemical products, telecommunications, etc. Though energy and manufacturing account for large
percentages of GDP in individual countries, tourism is by far the most prevalent industry (The World
Factbook, n.d.). According to the CIA s World Factbook, tourism is top industry in at least 17 of the 26
countries (See Appendix E) (n.d).
Tourism Travel
The total contribution of travel and tourism includes the direct contribution (accommodations,
transportation, entertainment, attractions, retail purchases, etc.), as well as indirect contributions as
well as investment spending; the impact of purchases from supplies; and the spending of direct and
indirect employees. The total contribution of travel and tourism in the Caribbean accounts for 14.8%
of GDP in 2015 for a total of US$ 53.1 billion, and was expected to reach 14.9% of GPD in 2016 for a
total of US$ 54.5 billion. By 2026, travel and tourism is expected to account for 16.2% of GPD for a
total of US$ 76.2 billion. Over 2,255,000 jobs were generated in 2015 (13.3% of total employment)
and is expected to be over 2,276,000 jobs in 2016 (13.4% of total employment). By 2026, travel and

Julius Caesar Rhetorical Analysis
Brutus s Use of Rhetorical Strategies in Julius Caesar In Julius Caesar, Shakespeare employs various
rhetorical strategies such as paradox, direct address, and antithesis to portray Brutus as a reasonable
and caring individual, thus justifying his actions to the audience and fellow conspirators. Brutus
begins conspiring to end Caesar s power, and he concludes that Caesar must bleed, and the
conspirators must kill him boldly, but not wrathfully (2.1.184 185). Brutus desire to avoid killing with
wrath inspires a paradox, which is intended to draw attention and thought to the subject. By
emphasizing the difference between boldness and wrath, he appears more reasonable, compelling the
conspirators to side with him. The paradox promotes the

The Legacy Of The Lauren Rogers Museum
The Lauren Rogers Museum is located in Laurel, Mississippi and was built in 1923. One unique
characteristic about this museum is that has the Georgian Revival Style, which means if you were to
cut the museum down the middle in equal halves each side would be identical. While touring the
Lauren Rodgers Museum there were two separate collections that caught my eye. These collections
consisted of the American and European collection. The American collection focuses primarily on
portraiture. In the American Collection I chose a painting by Jean MacLane called The Chintz Chair.
MacLane was born on September 14, 1878 and died on January 23, 1964 in New Canaan,
Connecticut. One of MacLane s first studies was at an Art Institute in Chicago with John Vanderpoel.
MacLane and her husband, artist John C. Johansen (1876 1964) help found the National Foundation of
Portrait Painters in 1912 (Jean 2015). The year of 1912 was considered to be MacLane s biggest year
because she was recognized for many different awards. MacLane depicted the Allied Leaders from
W.W.I., provided the only female subject, Queen Elisabeth of Belgian, and also became an associate
member of the National Academy of Design. The main items that MacLane incorporates into her
portraits are women and their children. In 1931, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and
Letter (Jean 2015). The picture that I chose from the American Collection by Jean McLane

Correlation Between Domestic Violence, Rape, And Assault
Law Enforcement
The negative portrayals and stigmas attached to BDSM has made it difficult for the community to be
understood by society. This is especially the case with the justice system. There has been an
association created between domestic violence, rape, and assault with BDSM acts. There is no
denying that domestic violence, rape, and assault occur in BDSM, but one should not generalize an
entire community based on the acts of a few individuals. This stigma attached to BDSM does create
issues for the community; especially when the justice system becomes involved. For example, for
several individuals calling the police after engaging in a BDSM activity may be difficult due to the

For instance, many dominatrices are being portrayed as prostitutes in society because of how
commercialized it has become. The act of being a dominatrix has been shifting into a spectrum of
making a decent amount of money in a short time frame, in which the authenticity of being a
dominatrix has lost its identity because more women are making it into a profession instead of
viewing it as a lifestyle (Lindemann, 2010). Even though authentic dominatrices do not participate in
penetrative sex, more individuals are treating BDSM play as a form of prostitution because there has
been a change of symbolic meaning concerning BDSM sex as a lifestyle to prostitution. This then
creates an even more fragmented view of what a dominatrix lifestyle involves, in which further stigma
will be associated with BDSM. A consequence of the fragmented construction of BDSM sex,
especially as a dominatrix, is when the submissive begins to take control when paying for certain
sexual acts like one would pay a prostitute, in which the dominating role is taken away from the
dominatrix (Lindemann,

The Forest Of Gombe By Jane Goodall
Before science is introduced to the human society, people always use religious beliefs to describe the
mysterious phenomenon. However, as science becomes advanced, people gradually lost in the
relationship between it and religious beliefs. In the essay In the Forest of Gombe , Jane Goodall
spends long time with chimpanzees in the forests to recover from her husband s death. During this
period, she learns new ideas from the chimps and finds herself back, and understands the complicated
relationship between scientific ideas and religious beliefs. Thus, to uncover peace, people have to
understand themselves first instead of focusing on problems permanently. People have the space to
understand themselves when stay with animals, and learn many meaningful ideas from them. When
people lost their families, they cannot accept it because they rarely face this kind of situations. Before
her husband passes away, Goodall believes in god. However, after losing her husband, Goodall angry
at the unjustness and starts to reject the god. To seek for healing, she decides to go to the forest and
stay with chimpanzees in Gombe. However, in the forest, animals deal with death in a totally different

When Worlds Collide Chapter 2 Summary
The beginning of chapter 2 is titled When worlds Collide because in that chapter it talks about the
native americans and Europeans meeting each other in the new world. There were 3 main European
countries that interacted with the natives, the Spanish, English, and French. Each had their reasons for
making the long treck to the new World. One of the major European countries that came in contact
with the natives in the 16th century was Spain. When they first arrived in the caribbean, they had 3
goals in mind God, Gold, and Glory. They want to enrich themselves in the raw natural resources that
was abundant in North america, but there was only on issue, the natives that have lived here for

because these settlers had no idea how to be self independent. As more and more settler came across

One specific group, the Puritans came over because they felt that the church of England corrupt and
they want to escape and start a new more holy life in the new world. They were able to befriend a tribe
of natives called the Wampanoags, which also helped the settlers survived the harsh New England

have been given the ability to choose. One can choose to believe in God, or in gods, or in nothing at
all. This free will is what ultimately allows us to have a relationship with God. Without free will, why
does God give us the opportunity to live and to choose Him?
God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some
people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I
can t. If a thing is free to be good it s also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible.
Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the
only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. (Lewis 47, 48) Whether you
believe Christ is a liar, a lunatic or Lord, you cannot say he was only a great moral teacher. If you
believe He is a liar, practice your free will and believe as you wish. If you believe He is a lunatic,
practice your free will and believe in the same manner. If you believe He is Lord, practice your free
will and believe it. But do not say He did not exist, or that He was just a great, moral teacher. I have
found otherwise. I know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot.
So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. (Revelation

The U.S. Involvement in the Vietnam War

World History and Geography 2
7 March 2014
How did the US involvement in the Vietnam War Impacted the US Socially, Economically, and
Globally? The Vietnam War was one of the most outrageous and long drawn out wars in history. The
other name for the Vietnam War was called Cold Era proxy War. The war had been battled in order to
stop the spread of invasion from communism in the southern parts of Vietnam. The American played
the role of a supporter to the southern part of Vietnam, trying to prevent communist from approaching
the southern part of Vietnam. The Americans was influenced by the French government to help with
the war. France did not support communism due to their loss to the communist ... Show more content

Again, the United States have learned a lesson from the Vietnamese feared rebellions happening in the
United States among themselves again. To prevent that from happening, America actions and
understanding were based on the media and information being delivered appropriately by the
government of the country. The Vietnam War did not only have caused unrest among the United States
civilians, but the war resulted in the depreciation of America s economy. Due to the war s demands in
supplies, there were enormous amounts of negative imbalances in the industrial sector. Industries that
manufacture goods such as agricultural products, capital goods, and consumer goods have been
prevented from manufacturing the product to meet the population s needs.
(http://www.historycentral.com/) The Factories were unable to manufacture goods and ship it to their
people. This is because the factories that were trying to manufacture the consumer s goods had to shift
their responsibility towards catering and producing goods to met the demands of the military instead.
Additionally, the unnecessary military spending, and the diversion of funds oversea resulted in the
depreciation of the United States dollars. There were no equivalent funds or offers coming into the
country, so the United States withdrawn themselves from improving their countries areas to military

Charles Baudelaire And John Wieners
A Comparison Between the Responses of Charles Baudelaire and John Wieners to Modernization In
order to compare the poetry of Charles Baudelaire and John Wieners within the context of modernity,
one must recognize the discrepancy between their time periods. Baudelaire was born in Paris in 1821,
and much of his work was published after the February Revolution of 1848. John Wieners, on the
other hand, was born in 1934 67 years after Baudelaire s death near Boston, Massachusetts. Both poets
explored sexual and drug related themes that opposed the conventions of their society. However, poets
played a larger role in Baudelaire s modern society than in Wieners s. People in Baudelaire s modern
society read for entertainment as well as instruction, so therefore, as a source of this entertainment, the
poet and his contemporaries would naturally inhabit the mainstream, insofar as their occupation if not
their fame. John Wieners, on the other hand, was pushed into the fringe of his society s consciousness.
Part of this push likely had to do with new and less demanding forms of entertainment such as
television and record players. However, the much more likely caused by the subject matter of his
poems. It is true that like Baudelaire, John Wieners challenged societal norms, but unlike Baudelaire,
his occupation as a poet drew little attention to the skill so clearly evident within his poems. Both
poets describe the modern urban landscape they inhabit within their poems. For example,

Using Data Analysis And Record Keeping
Excel and access are two different programs that are used in data analysis and record keeping. They
both have their advantages and disadvantages of using them but over the years one has grown to
dominate the field of records and analysis. Access is made up of seven major components which are
relationships, queries, forms, reports, modules, tables and macros (Brady Monk, 2009). Due to this
complexity of divisions, using it becomes cumbersome the hence not the right tool for data analysis
unlike excel where you only enter the data in tables. Over the years excel has proven to be the perfect
platform to collect and analyze data on. This is due to constant improvements in data analysis
formulas, graphs, charts and analysis styles the latest one being pivot tables. The greatest advantage of
excel is that it is easily compatible with other business software s hence ability to offer better results.
Giving the ease of entering data in excel the first priority in the hierarchy of its advantages, other facts
that stand out in excel include building great charts using pie charts and graphs. This will help a lot in
the presentation of data collected. Use of conditional formatting is another fact that makes excel stand
out against access. This is because you have the ability to format orders differently depending on
customers or goods ordered. The last very important advantage of excel is the ability to analyze data
and identify different trends of different customers or goods

Assisted Living
For this assignment I decided to write my reflection paper on the Life and Death in Assisted Living
video. Out of all the videos that were presented to me, I felt this video was the most interesting to me.
This video showed many different incidents that happen assisted living facility on the day to day, that
many people including myself was not aware of. One of the main reasons I find this video interesting
is, because one day I plan to be an administrator at an assisted living. I preferably want to be an
administrator of an assisted living with a hundred beds or more. As an administrator I want to make
sure I understand the positions, feelings, and point of views from everyone involved in the facility,
including from the residents as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel this video will be impactful for future policies, because a lot people will be aware. Prior to this
video a lot of the issues presented in this video, I did not realize happened as often as presented. Some
of the issues such as the workload being too much for the employees are a major issue. I feel if a lot of
people are aware of this issue it will make a difference for both the residents and the facility. I also
feel the issues presented in this video will shed a light on what really goes on in the facility, so
families that have their loved ones in the facility know some signs to look for. If a family is spending a
lot of money for their loved ones to be in a facility, they need to know they are receiving proper care
for what they are paying for. Lastly I feel this video is going to impact future policies on the training
the facilities provide for their employees. Every facility needs to make sure that their employee s
receive proper training for the residents they that resides in the facility. Also with this they can make
sure the employees are working within their scope of

Anthropology and Gender Essay
Though women have played an integral part in the history of the discipline of anthropology, it was not
until the early 1970 s that the field of anthropology and gender, or feminist anthropology emerged.
Sex and gender roles have always been a vital part of any ethnographic study, but the contributors of
this theory began to address the androcentric nature of anthropology itself. The substantial gap in
information concerning the study of women was perceived as a male bias, a prejudice made more
apparent because what little women centered fieldwork was done received insufficient attention from
the academic community. While anthropology was considered one of the more egalitarian fields of
study, it was dominated by white, Western males who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of Slocum s contemporaries, Eleanor Leacock (1922 1987) chose to differently analyze gender
research, focusing on distinctions in power as it relates to society, the economy, and politics (2011:
397). She concentrated on North American natives and aboriginal Australians and their changing
gender roles as the result of Western influence. Another feminist trend gave emphasis to gender
identities, analyzing the ways in which race, class and gender converge. David Valentine, born in
1966, illustrates such an emphasis in his work which concerns the cross cultural variations on the
westernized concepts of gender identity and sexuality, by which we categorize sexual desire
(2011:398). As evidenced by the variety of emphases within the theory, feminist anthropologists were
fully committed to assessing all previously ignored facets of the subjugated female within numerous
cultures worldwide.
Several decades ago the idea of women as subordinate was considered to be a universality by the
aforementioned white, Western male anthropologists who lead the field. Despite an anthropologist s
endeavor to be unbiased, the fact is these traditional anthropologists came from a culture where many
aspects of human life were male dominant. Though many studied

In A Society Where So Much Emphasis Is Placed On The Way
In a society where so much emphasis is placed on the way one looks, it s no surprise that one could be
self conscious about their body image. As a result, there are some who take drastic actions in order to
maintain this distorted image of themselves. These actions can not only affect the way an individual
perceives themselves, but it also could have more serious, life threatening consequences, including
death. Nonetheless, treatment and recovery are possible. Anorexia Nervosa, also known as anorexia,
involves intense emotions and abnormal behaviors that typically revolves around food and weight and
out of all the psychiatric conditions, it has the highest death rate ( Anorexia nervosa; Anorexia: Signs,

While there are two different types of anorexia, their symptoms and assumed causes are relatively the
same. Goldberg (2016) notes that although anorexia essentially means loss of appetite, this definition
is inaccurate as people with this disorder are in fact, hungry, but refuse to eat. Individuals suffering
from anorexia, tend to have an obsessive fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, so they start
behaving in ways that causes them to lose an excessive amount of weight, by either restricting the
amount of food consumed, exercising too much, or starving themselves (Anorexia Nervosa: Signs,
Symptoms, Causes, And Treatment; Smith, Melinda, M.A., and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D). These
individuals have a distorted perception of themselves, believing that they are too fat, when they are in
fact underweight, as well as overly weighing themselves to see if they gained any weight, overly
obsessing over food labels and nutrition, and developing strange eating habits, such as cutting food
into tiny pieces, eating alone, and/or hiding food; In addition. people struggling with this disorder tend
to have a low self esteem, feel hopeless, and become socially withdrawn from family, friends, and
activities they once enjoyed. ( Anorexia: Signs, Symptoms, Causes Treatment Help; Smith, Melinda,
M.A., and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D; Goldberg, Joseph, MD). Although an exact cause of anorexia is
unknown, it is believed that it can develop as a result of a combination of biological,

Similar to a parasite, Juliet, the daughter of Capulet and Lady Capulet in the play Romeo and Juliet by
William Shakespeare, is a character who is very dependent and doesn t formulate her own opinion. So,
throughout the course of the story, Juliet develops her own thoughts and continuously becomes more
independent according to the experiences she faces, consisting of disobeying her parents, falling
deeply in love with Romeo and finally accomplishing her liberty. William Shakespeare has created
Juliet by interpreting her as a character who has transferred from a dependent person to an

Magical Realism In Big Fish
Through viewing Big Fish, by Tim Burton and reading both of Marquez s stories (Handsomest
Drowned Man In The World and A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings), it becomes apparent that
while both novels vary greatly in plot and storyline, they are also both centered around the concept of
magical realism. For example, Big Fish is a story about a young mAn who visits his dying father, but
throughout the story, is introduced to various magical entities, which introduce an almost fantasy like
theme to the story. In Marquez s stories, one is about a handsome drowned man and the other is about
a dirty, raggedy angel. We are similarly shown this sense of an ordinary reality, with a certain twinge
of magic/fantasy. So while this film and these novels are completely different in the terms of context
and storyline, they share these elements of fantasy, that seamlessly blend together to create a realistic,
yet magical atmosphere that provides the reader with a unique and capturing experience.
In both Big Fish and Marquez s stories, the characters play a pivotal role in establishing the themes of
magical realism. In A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings: A Tale for Children, we are introduced to
one of the main characters, Pelayo. Pelayo is quite ordinary character, one that does not exhibit any
magical traits that would depict magical realism. Instead, the author uses Pelayo to create a
ordinary/everyday reality by establishing a character that does not have any sort of supernatural

There are distinctions within the broad line of issues regarding both indemnity and non indemnity
insurance. Using life insurance as an example of non indemnity insurance would also consider other
value insurance such as personal accident and critical illness.
In non indemnity the list of issues include group insurance, key employee insurance or issues of
natural affection, eg, a grandmother will not be able to obtain insurance on the life of her grandson.
Equally if insurable interest is removed, this may open up wager type policies or taking out insurance
on a stranger or more bizarrely celebrities. In indemnity insurance, if insurable interest is removed,
there may be odds with statute such as Marine Insurance and Life Assurance Acts.
Within the debate is the argument whether insurable interest is required at all. Behind this debate is the
definition of insurance which separates insurance contracts from those of gaming and the need to
define due to the tax requirements being different for each. From the case Prudential Insurance V
IRC[13], Mr Justice Channell stated his definition of insurance:
The remaining essential is... that the insurance must be against something. A contract which would
otherwise be a mere wager may become an insurance by reason of the assured having an interest in the
subject matter that is to say, the uncertain event which is necessary to make the contract amount to an
insurance must be an event which is prima facie adverse

Atherosclerosis Risk
Risk factors for heart disease cause problems because inevitably, they lead to atherosclerosis.
Atherosclerosis is the deposition of plaques of fatty material on the inner walls of the arteries ( What
Is Cardiovascular Disease? 2014). It develops for years without causing symptoms and it can happen
in any part of the body. Around the heart, it is known as coronary artery disease because coronary
arteries feed the heart muscle itself. Coronary heart disease symptoms include angina (dull/heavy
sharp chest pain or discomfort), or pain in neck, jaw, throat, upper abdomen or back. All of these
symptoms and risks of cardiovascular disease may be the result of high cholesterol. Cholesterol is the
macromolecule (fat/lipid) in our blood. Our bodies create all the cholesterol our cells need, but most
of the time we get cholesterol from the foods that we eat as well. ... Show more content on

The buildup of plaque will narrow the arteries; this makes it impossible for blood to travel through the
vessels properly. This eventually leads to dangerous blood clots and heart attacks. Additionally, many
things can affect a person s cholesterol level. This includes the foods being eaten, being overweight,
being inactive, age, and even family history. Cholesterol levels begin to rise after the age of twenty
(Pagano, 2009). By being overweight and not keeping active, an individual may lower their HDL
(good cholesterol). HDL is good cholesterol and is linked to lowering the risk of heart disease. It helps
move cholesterol out of the body. HDL achieves this by binding with cholesterol in the bloodstream
and carrying it back to the liver for disposal. LDL is bad cholesterol and is the type to raise the risk of
a heart disease. It carries mostly fat and only a small amount of protein from the liver to other parts of

overall discrimination you may face from employers. First of all, sharing that you have a learning
disability can be very nerve wracking or even embarrassing for some. People aren t always accepting,
and they may see you as someone who you re truly not. This ties into the second reason why I wouldn
t disclose my learning disability in a job interview: loss of independence. When people find out that

Oswald Mosley Was A Man And The Emotional Aftermath Of The...
Oswald Mosley was a man intellectually and temperamentally a product of his aristocratic upbringing
and the emotional aftermath of the First World War (Beadle 328). During this time period, he
influenced his surroundings with distinct political views and actions throughout Britain. Oswald
Mosley influenced his time being a Member of Parliament however discounted many opportunities for
action blinded by the search of personal power. This blindness led to a fascist approach towards
government with views of leadership, resembling control and courage, and actions facing the
problems of the new modern world. The upbringing of Oswald Mosley, born 16 November 1896,
started with his aristocratic family. The family had attempts to campaign against nineteenth century
laissez faire capitalism however, never achieved mass support from their peers. His parents separated
and Mosley developed under his mother and grandmother. He excelled in many fields leading some to
envy in his success. Oswald Mosley married Lady Cynthia Curzon, also known as Cimmie, on 11
May 1920. The wedding was one of the largest social events of the year. Cimmie encouraged Mosley s
determination, however the toll of leaving her out on his own endeavors was an immense burden.

The Metamorphosis Theme
The Metamorphosis by Kafka presents readers with an intensely claustrophobic and absurd premise
featuring a protagonist that is so used to living like an insect and so consumed with guilt that these
elements of his life finally take over and lead to his demise. In this world Kafka creates, Gregor lives
like an insect even before his metamorphosis and this theme is developed at the beginning of the story
when he wakes up to find that he has become what he most resembled in his life.
The idea of guilt and scurrying about to please others figures prominently in this text and it is useful to
look at the ways in which a compounding sense of guilt leads to Gregor s final resignation to death in
Kafka s short story, The Metamorphosis. For a man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His fate, it seems, is to provide for his family and there are several instances in which he laments his
inability to provide for his mother, father, and dear sister. The narrator states, revealing one of these
themes in The Metamorphosis , Gregor s sole desire was to do his utmost to help the family to forget
as soon as possible the catastrophe which had overwhelmed the business and thrown them all into a
state of complete despair (95) and this sense of blind duty compels him to work a meaningless, menial
job that has both figuratively and literally turned him into a filthy, scuttling, and helpless insect. While
this is true on a more basic level, the root of Gregor s problem stems from a deep seated feeling of
guilt, an emotion that eventually leads to his demise. By the end of the story, Gregor has completely
lost his purpose and for a man that once existed simply as a utilitarian creature (again, like an insect
since he lives only to fulfill his duty to the group). At one point, his feelings of uselessness are
described as, Gregor was now cut off from his mother, who was perhaps nearly dying because of him;
he dared not open the door for fear of frightening his sister, who had to stay with her mother, there was
nothing he could do but wait; and harassed by self reproach and worry he began to crawl to and fro
(109) and it is clear that the guilt of being useless is mounting and leading to his resignation in the

  • 2. 20 000 Leagues Under The Sea Essay Jules Verne also uses real life examples in his stories. In 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Jules Verne several times mentions Commander Matthew Fontaine Maury, Captain Maury in Verne s book, a real life oceanographer who explored the winds, seas, currents, and collected sampled of the bottom of the seas and charted oceans. Verne would have known of Matthew Maury s international fame and perhaps Maur s French ancestry. References are made to other such Frenchmen as Jean François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse, a famous explorer who was lost while circumnavigating the globe; Dumont D Urville, the explorer who found the remains of Lapérouse s ship; and Ferdinand Lesseps, builder of the Suez Canal and the nephew of the sole survivor of Lapérouse s ... Other travelers include Pausanias who wrote Around the World, Giovanni Francesco Gemelli Careri, who wrote Voyage around the World. The novel documents his trip as one of the first Europeans to circle the world for pleasure rather than profit, using publicly available transportation. Gemelli Careri provides rich accounts of seventeenth century civilization outside of Europe. These include Persia during the Ottoman Empire, Hindustan during the reign of Aurungzebe, the Chinese Lantern Festival and the Great Wall, and the native people of Mesoamerica. • 3. An Essay On Aids Conspiracy Theory AIDS is a creation of the CIA. The Berenstein/Berenstain Bears multiverse theory. Unexplained events being a glitch in the matrix . These are just a few of the many conspiracy theories I have investigated throughout the years. I don t necessarily believe in most of the conspiracy theories that I peruse, but that doesn t deter me from reading about them. For as long as I can remember, I ve always loved to examine things beyond face value, and to instead think of what it could be. Growing up, whenever I would read the Harry Potter series, my mind raced with the elements of foreshadowing and the nuanced references scattered throughout the book, such as all of Professor Trelawney s prophecies coming true eventually and Voldemort s name meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would stay up late at night, completely invested in whatever theory enraptured me at the time. I was insatiable every theory I read was inimitable in its own way, and every piece of evidence supporting or debunking it only escalated my curiosity and quest for knowledge. In fact, many conspiracies led me to gain a greater understanding of history in order to truly comprehend and gain a context for what I was reading. For example, when I learned about the MKUltra Project where the CIA performed mind control experiments on US citizens in the late 1940s and early 1950s I discovered that the experiments took place near the beginning of the Cold War as a way to discover new methods of interrogation and torture. Another theory that seems unlikely but also realistic claims that the CIA created HIV/AIDS in order to wipe out African American, homosexual men in the 1980s a time when discrimination against African Americans and homosexual men was still prominent. My interests led me to distant history, as well such as claims of aliens helping the Egyptians built the Great Pyramids, the possibility that Shakespeare was a woman, or the theory that a flying saucer crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in ... • 4. An Analysis Of Dominic Pettman s The World Of The Planet... Having a voice, whether it s a human or an animal, have a significance behind where it comes from, where we get it from and what message it receives to another. In this case, to have a voice consist of what it s used for and how it comes back to you in different reflections using sea and land animals and humans. To have a voice in the planet we live, it involves with imitation, body language, melancholy song with vocalization and similarities of the human species with the species of diverse animals and vice versa. Dominic Pettman s, The Screech Within the Speech engages with the embodiment of the human voice as it brushes against an animal in what Pettman calls vox mundi, or voice of the world. Pettman begins with expressing the melancholy songs from whales and how it is personalized given when they are lonely and more vocal when the ocean is at its loudest. I believe he then moves on to the main objective to this piece: discovering the voice with vocalization and self reflection using humans and different types of birds, explaining how compatible they both are using vocal expression and body communication as a form of transmission and unintended imitation, resulting to a form of conversation. Dominic Pettman, the author of this article, is a staff member of The New School in New York City as the Chair of Liberal Studies, New school for Social Resources, a Professor of Cultural and Media and is Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at The New School s Eugene Lang ... The Causes Of Forced Migration In The Country Of Population Forced migration is defined as, a general term that refers to the movements of refugees and internally displaced people (those displaced by conflicts within their country of origin) as well as people displaced by natural or environmental disasters, chemical or nuclear disasters, famine, or development projects (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, n.d.). Since the 1940, this issue has risen steady and affects over a million individuals globally. In 2015, nine out of 1000 people were evacuated by force (Bozorgmehr Razum, 2017). Health problems can become abundant among forced migrants due to the vast amount of people dwelling within a small camp. Multiple diseases may begin to fester among the refuge location because many people may bring the foreign illness to the location. This may lead to new illnesses in a place that has not experienced that particular type of illness in that area. Because majority of forced migrants are in such crowded quarters, diseases can proliferate quickly throughout the population as a result of poor hygiene and sanitation. This leads to an increase in health care demand; however, due to the increased amount of people in the vicinity these types of services may be limited or unavailable to the individuals. A decrease or destruction of health care to forced migrates can eventually lead to and increase mortality rate (Skolnik, 2016). Language and cultural barriers may impact health care attainment for some individuals of forced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Healthcare is constructed around encounters between practitioners and patients, and the relationship between them is integral to how the cultures of healing are at work and represented in literature, in history and social sciences around the world. Life and mortality are two great questions of being that perennially haunt the human existence; and physicians play the most significant role in negotiating between the physical and the metaphysical worlds of being, suffering and trying to find cure and comfort as long as life goes on. The cultures of healing across time, space and nationality explored however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is Foucault s famous observation in The Birth of the Clinic ( as translated into English in 1973) where he illustrates the doctor patient relationship in terms of power, and the subject object hierarchy. The diseased body is in disorder, in a state of displacement, and its subjectivity is erased as it becomes subject to the doctor s examination. In several literary works of the nineteenth century, such representations of doctor patient relationship are to be found as corresponding to the Foucauldian pattern, that is, turning the patient s subjectivity into an object of the doctor s authoritative gaze. However, since Foucault himself has elsewhere insisted on the double meaning of subject (1982, 212), it is possible to problematize the doctor patient relation and attempt to come to terms with one s own subject object position within the established discourse of medical gaze. It is interesting, however, to examine how literary representations of doctor patient relationships across cultures and nationalities have interrogated the notion of seeing as an alternative mode of vision. Opthalmology as a special branch of medical science established itself quite seriously in the Victorian period. • 10. Effects Of Residential Schools In Canada Residential schools were a place where thousands of Indigenous children would go to learn but instead get abused very badly. Residential schools existed about a hundred years ago. These tragic schools were established because European people wanted the Indigenous people of Canada to be assimilated into Euro Canadian. The European people thought that their civilization was the greatest human achievement. A lot of residential schools opened within Canada s provinces. Life at residential schools was very cruel because the students got limited time to learn and more time to do exhausting chores. The children also got brutally abused for various things including if they offend the nuns and priests working in the schools. By the time the children had finished attending the residential schools they had almost forgotten everything about their culture and traditions. Residential schools treated children very poorly which caused some long lasting effects that still impact Indigenous people today. There were a lot of residential schools in Canada and there were a variety of reasons why and how these schools had opened. European settlers thought that the first habitants of Canada (the Indigenous people) were ignorant, and like children they needed guidance. The first prime minister of Canada Sir John A. McDonald commissioned a journalist and politician Nicholas Flood Davin to study industrial schools, for the indigenous children, in the United States. Nicholas Flood Davin found ... Lawrence, and The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, the two authors illustrate symbols and themes throughout their stories in which one common idea is present: perhaps winning is not always positive. The Rocking Horse Winner, by D.H. Lawrence is a fictional story about a woman s obsession for money and the lack of love and affection she shows to her family. That s why it s better to be born lucky than rich. If you re rich you may lose money. But if you re lucky, you will always have money. (236) This pushes Paul to desperately seek out luck so that his mother will be grateful for her life and provide her family with the love and affection that they so rightfully deserve. Paul believes his rocking horse is full of magical powers, which will help him achieve the luck he needs to gain his mother s love. While Paul rides his rocking horse, the horse predicts the winning horse and ends up making Paul an appalling amount of money. Paul gives his winnings to his mother who squanders it on unnecessary materialistic things. He realizes that he must win more money to win his mother s affections. He becomes mad and frantically searches for the next winner of the horse races. On Paul s last ride to find the last winner of the horse race, he falls of the horse and eventually dies. Lawrence shows many points by applying these obvious symbols: the rocking horse and the whispering house. The wooden rocking horse symbolizes the fantasy quest that Paul takes to attain luck. This magical mysterious wooden horse also tells Paul who will win the horse races. The whispering house symbolizes his mother s lust for money. African American Womanhood African American women, often perceived as a sexual object or the Jezebel (the stereotype of white man view of the black woman as loose and over sexed) have struggled to eliminate images that promote sexual exploitation such as their promiscuity (showing off their breast, behind, legs, and showing much of their skin on television, music videos and magazines) through the use of feminist movements and the creation of the womanist movement. However, in modern day society, black women have accepted these sexual ideas which were once considered to be dishonorable. While both Black and White women are subject to sexualized images, the white woman defines the standard of the socially acceptable view of what it is to be a woman. Not being able to fit into that set of stereotypes, Black women consequently become deemed as the other within their own gender. The stereotypes formed for African American women were even more significantly derogatory than that of the image of the submissive house slave. This ideology of the 19th century Eurocentric norm was to objectify these woman as sexually promiscuous. By exaggerating their actions and portraying them into a negative perception, these portrayals were designed to oppress these women and deem them inferior to their female counterpart. Decades later, these images still have influence today in the perceptions of the Black women and their bodies. A great example of this sexism and racism can be seen in today s criticism about female sports athletes such as the six time U. S Open tennis champion Serena Williams and her sister Venus. MacLane was born on September 14, 1878 and died on January 23, 1964 in New Canaan, Connecticut. One of MacLane s first studies was at an Art Institute in Chicago with John Vanderpoel. Correlation Between Domestic Violence, Rape, And Assault Law Enforcement The negative portrayals and stigmas attached to BDSM has made it difficult for the community to be understood by society. This is especially the case with the justice system. There has been an association created between domestic violence, rape, and assault with BDSM acts. There is no denying that domestic violence, rape, and assault occur in BDSM, but one should not generalize an entire community based on the acts of a few individuals. The act of being a dominatrix has been shifting into a spectrum of making a decent amount of money in a short time frame, in which the authenticity of being a dominatrix has lost its identity because more women are making it into a profession instead of viewing it as a lifestyle (Lindemann, 2010). Even though authentic dominatrices do not participate in penetrative sex, more individuals are treating BDSM play as a form of prostitution because there has been a change of symbolic meaning concerning BDSM sex as a lifestyle to prostitution. This then creates an even more fragmented view of what a dominatrix lifestyle involves, in which further stigma will be associated with BDSM. A consequence of the fragmented construction of BDSM sex, especially as a dominatrix, is when the submissive begins to take control when paying for certain sexual acts like one would pay a prostitute, in which the dominating role is taken away from the dominatrix (Lindemann, ... Without free will, why does God give us the opportunity to live and to choose Him? God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I can t. If a thing is free to be good it s also free to be bad. Charles Baudelaire And John Wieners A Comparison Between the Responses of Charles Baudelaire and John Wieners to Modernization In order to compare the poetry of Charles Baudelaire and John Wieners within the context of modernity, one must recognize the discrepancy between their time periods. Baudelaire was born in Paris in 1821, and much of his work was published after the February Revolution of 1848. John Wieners, on the other hand, was born in 1934 67 years after Baudelaire s death near Boston, Massachusetts. Both poets explored sexual and drug related themes that opposed the conventions of their society. However, poets played a larger role in Baudelaire s modern society than in Wieners s. People in Baudelaire s modern society read for entertainment as well as instruction, so therefore, as a source of this entertainment, the poet and his contemporaries would naturally inhabit the mainstream, insofar as their occupation if not their fame. John Wieners, on the other hand, was pushed into the fringe of his society s consciousness. Part of this push likely had to do with new and less demanding forms of entertainment such as television and record players. However, the much more likely caused by the subject matter of his poems. Sex and gender roles have always been a vital part of any ethnographic study, but the contributors of this theory began to address the androcentric nature of anthropology itself. The substantial gap in information concerning the study of women was perceived as a male bias, a prejudice made more apparent because what little women centered fieldwork was done received insufficient attention from the academic community. Another feminist trend gave emphasis to gender identities, analyzing the ways in which race, class and gender converge. David Valentine, born in 1966, illustrates such an emphasis in his work which concerns the cross cultural variations on the westernized concepts of gender identity and sexuality, by which we categorize sexual desire (2011:398). As evidenced by the variety of emphases within the theory, feminist anthropologists were fully committed to assessing all previously ignored facets of the subjugated female within numerous cultures worldwide. Goldberg (2016) notes that although anorexia essentially means loss of appetite, this definition is inaccurate as people with this disorder are in fact, hungry, but refuse to eat. Individuals suffering from anorexia, tend to have an obsessive fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, so they start behaving in ways that causes them to lose an excessive amount of weight, by either restricting the amount of food consumed, exercising too much, or starving themselves (Anorexia Nervosa: Signs, Symptoms, Causes, And Treatment; Smith, Melinda, M.A., and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D). These individuals have a distorted perception of themselves, believing that they are too fat, when they are in fact underweight, as well as overly weighing themselves to see if they gained any weight, overly obsessing over food labels and nutrition, and developing strange eating habits, such as cutting food into tiny pieces, eating alone, and/or hiding food; In addition. people struggling with this disorder tend to have a low self esteem, feel hopeless, and become socially withdrawn from family, friends, and activities they once enjoyed. • 32. Magical Realism In Big Fish Through viewing Big Fish, by Tim Burton and reading both of Marquez s stories (Handsomest Drowned Man In The World and A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings), it becomes apparent that while both novels vary greatly in plot and storyline, they are also both centered around the concept of magical realism. For example, Big Fish is a story about a young mAn who visits his dying father, but throughout the story, is introduced to various magical entities, which introduce an almost fantasy like theme to the story. In Marquez s stories, one is about a handsome drowned man and the other is about a dirty, raggedy angel. We are similarly shown this sense of an ordinary reality, with a certain twinge of magic/fantasy. So while this film and these novels are completely different in the terms of context and storyline, they share these elements of fantasy, that seamlessly blend together to create a realistic, yet magical atmosphere that provides the reader with a unique and capturing experience. In both Big Fish and Marquez s stories, the characters play a pivotal role in establishing the themes of magical realism. In A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings: A Tale for Children, we are introduced to one of the main characters, Pelayo. Pelayo is quite ordinary character, one that does not exhibit any magical traits that would depict magical realism. Instead, the author uses Pelayo to create a ordinary/everyday reality by establishing a character that does not have any sort of supernatural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Atherosclerosis is the deposition of plaques of fatty material on the inner walls of the arteries ( What Is Cardiovascular Disease? 2014). It develops for years without causing symptoms and it can happen in any part of the body. Around the heart, it is known as coronary artery disease because coronary arteries feed the heart muscle itself. Coronary heart disease symptoms include angina (dull/heavy sharp chest pain or discomfort), or pain in neck, jaw, throat, upper abdomen or back. All of these symptoms and risks of cardiovascular disease may be the result of high cholesterol. Cholesterol is the macromolecule (fat/lipid) in our blood. The buildup of plaque will narrow the arteries; this makes it impossible for blood to travel through the vessels properly. This eventually leads to dangerous blood clots and heart attacks. Additionally, many things can affect a person s cholesterol level. This includes the foods being eaten, being overweight, being inactive, age, and even family history. Cholesterol levels begin to rise after the age of twenty (Pagano, 2009). By being overweight and not keeping active, an individual may lower their HDL (good cholesterol). HDL is good cholesterol and is linked to lowering the risk of heart disease. It helps move cholesterol out of the body. HDL achieves this by binding with cholesterol in the bloodstream and carrying it back to the liver for disposal. LDL is bad cholesterol and is the type to raise the risk of a heart disease. • 39. The Metamorphosis Theme The Metamorphosis by Kafka presents readers with an intensely claustrophobic and absurd premise featuring a protagonist that is so used to living like an insect and so consumed with guilt that these elements of his life finally take over and lead to his demise. In this world Kafka creates, Gregor lives like an insect even before his metamorphosis and this theme is developed at the beginning of the story when he wakes up to find that he has become what he most resembled in his life. The narrator states, revealing one of these themes in The Metamorphosis , Gregor s sole desire was to do his utmost to help the family to forget as soon as possible the catastrophe which had overwhelmed the business and thrown them all into a state of complete despair (95) and this sense of blind duty compels him to work a meaningless, menial job that has both figuratively and literally turned him into a filthy, scuttling, and helpless insect. While this is true on a more basic level, the root of Gregor s problem stems from a deep seated feeling of guilt, an emotion that eventually leads to his demise. By the end of the story, Gregor has completely lost his purpose and for a man that once existed simply as a utilitarian creature (again, like an insect since he lives only to fulfill his duty to the group). At one point, his feelings of uselessness are described as, Gregor was now cut off from his mother, who was perhaps nearly dying because of him; he dared not open the door for fear of frightening his sister, who had to stay with her mother, there was nothing he could do but wait; and harassed by self reproach and worry he began to crawl to and fro (109) and it is clear that the guilt of being useless is mounting and leading to his resignation in the face of ...
