(c) DDR3 RAM
DDR3 SDRAM, an abbreviation for double data rate type three synchronous dynamic random
access memory, is a modern type of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) with a high
bandwidth ("double data rate") interface.

Conventional PCI, often shortened to just PCI, is a local computer bus for attaching hardware

Q.3 Assuming you are provided with two IDE hard disks and two IDE CD drive,
explain clearly how to configure them in one CPU having onboard IDE
interface, stating clearly the positions of jumper pins for each of the devices
under configuration.
With the help of the IDE interface I will first connect my hard disk on board as a primary master
with
Jumper pin placed at master on the hard disk I will then connect the power cable from the
power supply
Again I will use mi second IDE interface and I connect my second hard disk on a primary slave
without a jumper pin on it the I connect the power cable from the power supply
I will then bring my IDE CD drive with the help of an IDE interface I will place it on secondary
master on board but with a jumper pin on it placed at the master
Then I will get my second IDE CD drive with help of an IDE interface to connect on a secondary
slave interface on board without a jumper pin on it
Q.4 Explain clearly main steps one has to go through when installing the
following operating systems on a PC:
(a) Windows XP service pack 2
Turn off or restart your computer and boot on your CD/DVD drive with the Windows XP CD
Rom inserted. To boot on your CD Rom you have to set your boot device priority on your
computer CMOS and set your CD/DVD drive to be on the first priority.
Press any key on your keyboard to boot from your CD/DVD drive and wait for the Windows
setup installer to load.
When the Welcome to Setup screen appear just press the enter key to continue
The next screen will be the End User License Agreement (EULA) press the function key F8 to
agree with the EULA
After you have accepted the agreement the next screen will be showing you your existing
partition, if you have a new drive an “UnPartitioned space” alongside with the total capacity of
your hard drive will show on the screen. You can press the enter key and continue your setup
but you will be presented with only one drive letter C
I recommend partitioning it to atleast two drive partition so you’ll also have drive D: To partition
your drive to more than one partition press C and type the partition size in megabytes, you can
divide your total hard drive total capacity to two or more depending on the total size of your
hard disk. After you have created all your desired partition, select the first partition you have
just created usually with c: label on it or partition 1 along with its capacity make sure that the
capacity is not less than 2GB or 1024Mbytes, when completed press the enter key.
On the next screen you will be presented on how to format your drive, select the third option
“format the partition using the NTFS file system. With NTFS file system you will be able to save
a single file with 2GB or more file size, unlike in FAT file system you are not able to do these.
Press the enter key to proceed to the formatting of your new partition.
These may take sometimes to complete depending on the speed of your computer. Your
computer will reboot two or more times.
Continuing Windows setup, during the next reboot don't press any key on your keyboard when
the "Press any key to boot from CD DVD.
After rebooting wait for some time as you relax, your operating system is being installed on
your machine with important items
Click on next to continue Windows xp setup
Enter your Name and Organization at the box, Organization is optional
Enter your Windows xp product key in the box, product key are Alphanumeric you can find this
at the back of your Windows Xp CD case
Enter your desired computer name in the Computer name box and the Administrator account
password, you can leave the administrator password blank and setup it later after Windows xp
setup is complete
Enter current date and time and your location time zone
Select your Network settings, select on typical settings and click on the next button
Enter your desired network group or leave the default workgroup name click on the next button
windows setup will continue.
Continuing windows xp setup and finalizing setup when windows reboot don't press any key on
your keyboard wait for setup to continue.
Windows setup will ask you a few question to finalize setup just press on the next button to
continue,
Enter your user name for creating your account
Click on finish so your windows setup will be completed.
(b) Windows seven professional which is not activated and explain how to activate
it after installation.
Turn off or restart your computer and boot on your DVD drive or USB Flash with the windows
seven image. To boot on your DVD Rom or USB Flash you have to set your boot device priority
on your computer CMOS and set your DVD drive USB Flash to be on the first priority
When "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" appear, Press a key at your keyboard to boot
from your dvd drive if you don't press from your keyboard your PC will attempt to boot to your
next device priority. After pressing a key wait for a moment for windows 7 to load its files into
memory.
Choose the Language to install, time and currency format, and Keyboard or input method that
you'd like to use in your Windows 7 installation.
Click on Install Now when the Windows setup screen appears.
Accept the license terms by clicking on the checkbox beside it. You should read the license
terms before accepting it.
When you're in the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen you'll be offered the choice
of Upgrade and Custom (advance). Choose the Custom (advance) option so you'll be able to
format the partition or drive you choose.
In the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen click on drive "options (advance)" link
you'll be shown up with "format", "delete" partition option. Before formatting or deleting a
partition you should be aware that it will permanently erase all data on that particular drive this
means that your operating system, all programs installed, data that you have saved such as
your music, videos and all your documents will be lost for good, so be sure that you have
selected the right drive and you have saved all your important files to your external drive. Click
to highlight the partition you want to delete or format and click the OK button. When windows
prompt you about the partition you're going to delete or format click on the OK button. Click on
the partition where you're going to install windows and click on the next button
Windows will restart several times during installation.
When Windows setup ask you to choose for username, type your preferred name in the box
and also the computer name
In the "Set a password for your account" type in your preferred password, adding password is
always a good choice especially if you don't want others to use your computer. You can also set
your password later when windows setup is completed by going to control panel - users
account.
In the "Type your windows product key" screen, press skip the product key will be skipped
In the 'Help protect your computer and improve Windows automatically" screen Windows 7 is
asking you to choose how you want to automatically install updates from Microsoft's Windows
Update service. I recommend Install important updates only, with this option windows will
download only important security and stability update when available but your choice will be all
up to you.
In the "Review your time and date settings" screen, choose your time, date and your time zone
In the "Select your computer's current location" screen Choose Home Network if you are
connected in your home network or Work network if you are connected at your Office network.
Chose Public Network if you use mobile computer such as your laptop and you access the
internet through public network.
Wait for the setup to complete, when setup complete you're done with windows setup
