Research Methodology Essay
The study of man contains a greater variety of intellectual styles than any other area of cultural
endeavor. How different social scientists go about their work, and what they aim t accomplish by it,
often do not seem to have a common denominator ... Let us admit the case of our critics from the
humanities and from the experimental sciences: Social science as a whole is both intellectually and
morally confused. And what is called sociology is very much in the middle of this confusion.

The first level belongs to the observed human subjects, this consists of common sense and meanings
which are true for these subjects and how they see themselves, which give rise to the behavior that
they manifest in socially constructed settings. The second belongs to the observing organizational
researcher. This understanding according to Lee is the researchers reading and interpretation of the
first level, common sense understanding where the researcher may use concepts such as subjective
interpretation, the hermeneutical circle or thick description. The third level of understanding also
belongs to the researcher. This understanding is one that the researcher creates and tests in order to
explain the empirical reality that he is investigating. This explanation is called scientific theory is
made up of constructs that belong only to the observing researcher. This explanation consists of
formal positions that typically posit the existence of unobservable entities such as social structure,
issues that may attempt to account for the influence of certain factors of which the observed subjects
may not even be aware. The above diagram shoes the flow of ideas and understanding between the
three levels of understanding and the relevance of the two methods of research in question. This
illustrated the importance of varying the methods of research used, to create a legitimate piece of

The Man He Killed By Thomas Hardy Figurative Language
The poem The Man He Killed by Thomas Hardy is symbolic of the subtle conflicted effects brought
about as a result of war. And the speaker in the poem is a classic example of someone who is trying to
cope with conflicting memories of what if? What if he had not gone to war and killed a man? What if
he had met the man under different circumstances? Had he and I but met/By some old ancient inn/we
should have sat us down to wet (lines 1 3). Imagery plays an important role at this point in the poem
because the speaker conveys that the same man he killed in war, he would have been able to sit down
and have a drink with him in totally different surroundings. The most important question, therefore,
being asked by the speaker is whether or not this man that he killed could have possibly been his
friend instead of foe had they not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soldier accepts why he had to kill a man, yet he struggles with whether or not his actions during a
time of war were justifiable. If not, then is he supposed to accept it because society has sanctioned it
for the better good of the commonwealth? Scott 2 The casual colloquial language used by the speaker
leaves the impression that he and his foe shared common backgrounds; Off hand like just as I /Was out
of work had sold his traps (14 15). He identifies with the other man. They were probably both
unemployed and the man he killed more than likely joined the army for the same reasons. They both
had no other option. The speaker is certainly trying to come to terms with killing a man. And the use
of repetition helps him to try and convince himself that he did the right thing. I shot at him as he at
me,/And killed him in his place (7 8); I shot him dead because Because he was my foe (9 10).
Standing face to face with his foe left him no choice but to kill the

Oh The Humanities Research Paper
Oh the Humanities! Who wouldn t want to study the stories that gave life to the world as we know it?
Read books that saved millions yet also fanned the flames of war. Texts that question reality, truth,
knowledge, wisdom, happiness, and life itself . It seems silly to climb that academic ladder and never
once question why. To search for the truth and values of the past is vital in creating a well rounded
student, and more importantly a good person. This paper will examine exactly why the humanities are
essential to all and the potential they carry. First and foremost, the humanities implore one to rethink
the way in which they think. My experience in the Search courses have challenged my way of thought.

Allowing for discussion of these altering views creates a unique opportunity for students to dig into
their values and ideas to formulate arguments. Students are forced to view topics from the perspective
of others so that they might be able to sustain an argument. Furthermore, when ideas are discussed
new points of views are exposed to students and suddenly this immeasurably important idea of
awareness comes into play. Hearing different perspectives has the ability for students to better
strengthen their argument as well as provide empathy and understanding among those of different
backgrounds. For example, in class when we studied texts from the Bible I was forced to see and
understand perspectives from students who don t come from a Catholic background. I consider myself
catholic however my viewpoints don t always align with the Bible. After class discussion I have been
able to interpret the Bible very differently and explore my personal beliefs more. I have been able to
refine and deepen my personal views on many topics. In fact, studying the Bible has allowed me to
strengthen my faith in my own unique way. A fact for which I am very grateful, a semi enlightenment
that I would not have achieved without studying the humanities. Ultimately I can t stress the value of
studies in the humanities. The necessity to explore our cultural, ideological, and

Essay On Lee Harvey s Assassination
Yes, because some people saw that Lee Harvey was seeing him on the sixth floor when John F.
Kennedy was shot. The police evidence suggested that Lee Harvey Oswald was not part of the
conspiracy, but assassinated the president was his own initiative. If they have evidence that shows
there were more people that involved with President Kennedy s assassination then why didn t they go
find the other two that was involved with it, it could have solved the whole entire case instead of
having it a mystery for 50 years. Oswald had always been a loner and an outsider. He had always been
attracted to things that he liked to watch and wanted to become a Marine, learning Russian, defecting
to Russia. After Oswald s father died, his life went downhill after that, Psychologists believe that a
child who lives in isolated life as Oswald did often sees the world as an adversary. He had a bad

Quantitative Research Chapter 3
CHAPTER 3 RESEARCH METHODS
3.1 Research Approach
There are two research approaches that researchers have to consider in conducting a research. Those
are quantitative and qualitative research. While both approaches become standards for conducting a
research, both approaches have major differences in answering research questions and gathering the
valid data.
Quantitative research can be described as an approach to which it explains a phenomenon expressed in
numerical data and analyzed by using mathematically based statistical tools (Aliaga and Gunderson,
2000). As a conclusive research, quantitative research emphasizes what are the causes of the
phenomenon, assuming people to have fixed factors to which it causes a phenomenon. Moreover,
quantitative approach is more limited, emphasized only on measuring the quantity of phenomenon
instead of describing it. Thus, quantitative research has less statistical tools compare to qualitative
research. However, it has several advantages such as more time and cost saving.
Regarding to this research, the author decides to use quantitative research in conducting a research.
The reason why the author chooses quantitative research is because this research is more emphasized
on what considerations that people make in buying an automobile. Moreover, the author assumes that

Christianity, By Clive Staples Lewis
In Mere Christianity, Clive Staples Lewis, known as C.S Lewis known best for his writing, and being
a Christian apologist, divides the novel into 4 different section. Each book emphasizes the struggles he
has faced and overcome as well as personal life lessons he has learned. The first section, Right and
Wrong as a Clue to the Meaning of the Universe focus on moral law and the law of nature. Christians
Believe, second section, corresponds with his life because Lewis has had many interviews defending
his faith and studied the Bible thoroughly. In the third book, Christian Behaviour. It talks about all of
the different types of morals and behaviors Christians are called to follow because Lewis has studied
into Jesus s teaching he has a deeper understanding of what Jesus has called his followers to be.
Lastly, Beyond Personality: or First steps in the Doctrine of the Trinity, is about the first steps and the
process of becoming a Christian. Lewis went from an atheist to a highly Christian figure in the church
and believer society resulting into a lot of personal knowledge of the topics in his novel. C.S. Lewis s
life influences his writing in Mere Christianity through his ability to portray the foundation of
Christianity from the growth made from both his believer and non believer life, using the amount of
studies and research done defending the views of atheists and Christians, his studies in people and
Christian behavior, and finally how his intimate growth as a godly person

Rock Candy Crystals
For the year of 2017, the science fair topic chosen is about the growth of rock candy crystals and how
acid interferes with the development of the crystals. For this experiment, 5 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml, and 20
ml of lemon juice will be added to a sugar solution and this is the independent variable. The sizes of
the crystals will be measured in millimeters and the experiment, will help to find, if an acid such as
lemon juice, does affect the diameter of sugar crystals. The hypothesis is if the amount of lemon juice
in the solution increases, then the diameter of the rock candy will decrease because the acid within the
lemon juice will break down the sugars in the sugar water and will stunt the crystallization process.
The control group is the sugar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Science of Cooking 1999) The type of glucose that is used in these inverted sugars and is found
naturally in many foods is called dextrose. (Livestrong 2017) Fructose and dextrose make up the
inverted sugars that are sold as different sweet, viscous liquids or syrups, such as honey, golden syrup,
and corn syrup. As mentioned, inverted sugars are much sweeter, and unlike sucrose, these sugars
keep more moisture and water, but also can contribute to less crystallization. (Science of Cooking
1999) This is because an acid, for instance, cream of tartar or lemon juice, can act as a sugar doctor
and accelerate the conversion from sucrose into two monosaccharides, like explained before and
therefore, this can reduce the amount of crystals. (Encyclopædia Britannica

instill demands in their markets for Timbuk2 messenger laptop bags which became a spin off from
their original messenger bag design. According to Jacobs Chase (2010), the company reports that
demand is still strong for the custom messenger bags made in San Francisco and that new laptop bags

would carry a name of his own. He was/is considered to be a forerunner, one who kicked off the
reformation, so to speak. One thing (among many) that should be equated to Wycliffe s name is the
fact that he felt it necessary to translate the Bible into a common language. He would also develop
followers who would be known as Lollards. Wycliffe s family was long settled in Yorkshire and
covered a considerable amount of territory. John Wycliffe was born in a small village in Hipswel
which was located in North Riding of Yorkshire, England around 1328. It is believed by most that it
was here in his home town neighborhood where he would receive his early education. John would
further his education at the university of Oxford, and though it is not revealed when his studies began,

Abstract
This paper will discuss the history of the canine dog. This paper will also discuss the different breeds
of the canine and its purposes. This paper focuses on the training, handling, and the overall care of the
canine by the police or other agencies involving canines.
Increased juvenile delinquency and engagement in crime has been an issue of concern to many parents
and the authority in general. Although juvenile crimes have been there even in the past, they have been
increasing at an alarming rate and the intensity of crimes committed has also increased. However the
criminal justice system has set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in some cases individuals are sentenced to a term of participation in boot camps for about
90 to 180 days which can substitute a jail term of about 10 years. However the equation of boot camp
term and the jail term substituted usually varies with the boot camp facility and the state. In case
juvenile offenders are not wiling to serve in boot camps, then they are compelled to serve their jail
term. Therefore participation in boot camps is not compulsory and individuals can prefer to serve their
original jail term instead. (Cowles, 2005)
The first boot camp was opened in the United States in Georgia and Oklahoma around 1983. The
initial set of the boot camps was to maximize the rate of deterrence, reduce the crowding in juvenile
prison, to decrease the cost of penal and the correction system, and in order to reduce the rate of
recidivism. Boot camps were however supposed to find a middle ground between restrictive prison
system and the less strict probation. Boot camps are therefore less restrictive than the system in
prisons and harsher than the system in probation.
In the recent past, there had been some disquiet from some parents and juveniles about their life in
juvenile camps. It is argued that some boots camps have been exposing juvenile to harsh military
training exposing them to various dangers which they may not be prepared for. For example in 2006,
boot camps were banned in Florida following the death of Lee Anderson

Definition Of Customary International Law
Within the scope of customary international law there are some varying norms that the international
law community must deal with, which can be broken down into three different categories from most
important to least important: 1) norms in which the international community allows no derogation,
these are known as peremptory norms or jus cogens, 2) norms that might allow for derogation, and 3)
norms that aren t binding but some might argue should be.
The classification of these customary norms is based off of both state practice and opinio juris. In
order to determine state practice the states may look towards each other and how they react in similar
scenarios. One debate surrounding this area is determining how many states need to sign off on an
action to determine that sufficient state practice is occurring. Two sides of the argument are the actual
number states versus the regionalization of the states. Opinio juris is defined as a state engaging in a
certain activity because they believe they are under legal obligation to act.
The idea of peremptory norms is older than modern international law itself (113). The idea of
peremptory norms stems from the belief that certain actions are so heinous that in order for these to be
prevented states shall not be allowed to derogate from adherence. The Vienna Convention on the Law
of Treaties shows the importance of peremptory norms in both Article 53 and 64. Article 53 states that
a treaty is void if at the time of its

Will The Yeast Fermentation Of Yeast Fermentation Of Glucose
Will the rate of yeast fermentation of glucose increase as pH levels increase? To test this, 4 trials of
two pH level solutions were prepared in order to obtain an average amount of CO2 produced. Twelve
mL of yeast, 12 mL of glucose, and 4 mL of either a pH 2 solution or pH 10 solution were prepared in
eight beakers, 4 per pH, and then poured into a flask, where the rate of fermentation was then
measured in millimeters every 2 minutes for a total of 20 minutes. It was hypothesized that the rate of
yeast fermentation of glucose would increase as pH increased. Our data results from the 8 flasks
showed no statistical significance between yeast fermentation of glucose in a pH of 2 or pH of 10
solution. Using the final CO2 production level measured after 20 minutes, a t Test assuming equal
variances was performed which supported our observations of no significant difference in the rate of
yeast fermentation, which led us to accept our null hypothesis stating that a change in pH would have
no effect on the rate of yeast fermentation of glucose.

Difference Between Digital Reading And Digital Reading
Digital Reading vs. Printed Reading
For a person who loves to read, I could never imagine myself reading on a screen when it comes to the
choice of print or digital reading. Whether it is for research, schoolwork, or just for fun, the articles I
find online only encourages me to print them so that I could have a physical copy in my hands. That s
when the inseparable feeling occurs to me: I feel more of an attachment between the physical copy of
the text and myself. I become so indulged in the text that my surroundings disappear. I can ultimately
understand what I m reading and grasp all the book s pearls. Many people who enjoy reading can
reminisce with the same feelings that I have experienced. Even many of those who read for the sake of
completing a task can admit that there s not much of a strain when comparing print to digital reading.
This is why reading from a book is still a necessity in our daily lives: it allows for a better grasp of
information, greater memory production, and an enjoyable experience that the reader can always
appreciate.
When we read from books, our brains can attain more information at a more accurate and faster rate,
resulting in greater scores when displaying comprehension skills in the long run. Lauren Singer and
Patricia Alexander, scholars of University of Maryland, proves this instance in their experiment,
Reading Across Mediums: Effects of Reading Digital and Print Texts on Comprehension and
Calibration (2016). The study consisted of

Women s Status Of Inferiority
In pre Islamic societies, women were held in high regards as matriarchal communities widely existed.
Their biology, with its ability to reproduce, enabled women to be worshipped for they were the
principle of creating life; this fact opposed androcentric theories that state how the nature of women
dictated a status of inferiority (Ahmed 11). However, as many scholars and theorists have noted, the
decline of women s status in pre Islamic societies was likely from urbanization. As warfare increased
from city states expanding their territories, warrior culture generated male dominance, and the
reproductive capacity of women were looked to for providing labor power, making them be seen as
property (Ahmed 12). In many instances, the rise of urban societies negatively affected women as
Leila Ahmed stated in Women and Gender in Islam and as demonstrated in late Sumerian, Babylonian,
and Assyrian cultures. The complexities of these civilizations produced military competitiveness,
escalating the aspects of male dominance and classes that further demeaned women (Ahmed 12).
However, the rise of Islam rectified the unjust social constructs as women were given more
independence, being considered equals and companions to men. In 5000 to 3000 BC, the first city
states developed in southern Mesopotamia by the Sumerian people. This area was near the Tigris and
Euphrates rivers, both being water sources and factors that helped build civilization. As the Sumerians

Coal-fired Power Plant
With the fast economic development, the global warming issue is threatening our planet nowadays.
Global warming can cause ice melting, which leads to sea level rise globally. Many lovely cities and
countries, such as London, Venice, and Bangladesh will be flooded with seawater and will disappear
on the map. Moreover, ecosystems are badly affected by global warming, which forces many species
to leave their homelands and move to the north or even extinct. Not only animals are under the
extinction dangers, but also human beings are enduring the extreme weather, such as floods, acid
rains, storms, droughts, etc. Along with the hostile environment, the human beings are in danger of the
spreading disease, such as malaria. Coal fired power plant generates 44 percent of the electricity;
however, it is considered the biggest air polluter in the United States and one of the biggest factors in
causing global warming. The greenhouse gas emissions from the coal fired power plants are
threatening the human health and the ecosystems. Fortunately, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the
authority of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to implement its responsibilities and regulate
the pollutants. Nevertheless, the U.S. EPA is facing with many challenges from the coal plants owners,
Republicans, and workers in coal reliant states, such as Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky. They opposed
to the U.S. EPA s new carbon dioxide regulations and tried to overturn the EPA s authority. This paper

Consider H.L.a Hart’s Critique of Austin’s Positivist...
The question of what the law is a philosophical one, which probably has no definite answer to it. This
is evident as we have seen a lot of legal theorists trying to come with answers to the question. Ronald
Dworkin says it is a set of explicitly adapted rules and ought to maximise the general welfare , Fuller
on the other believed law should withstand the scrutiny of reason and opposed the idea of legal
positivism that law is no higher than a particular authority , John Austin defined it to be the command
of the sovereign, backed up by sanctions , Herbert Lionel Adolphus Hart said that law was the rules
that may forbid individuals to perform various kinds of actions or that may impose various obligations
on individuals. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hart says that all laws differ from the commands of a sovereign because they may apply to those
individuals who enact them (i.e. the president and the legislature) and not just to other individuals
(South African citizens). Laws may also differ from coercive orders in that they don t only have to
impose duties and obligations (primary rules of obligations) but can also confer powers and privileges.
According to hart in order for primary rules to work properly they need secondary rules in order to
effective. The function of secondary rules is to enable legislators to make changes in the primary rules
(legislation) should the primary rules be found to be defective in any way. Secondly they may be
necessary in order to enable courts to resolve disputes over the interpretation and application of
primary rules. Therefore the secondary rules of a legal system may include rules of recognition,
change and adjudication. For these primary rules to be followed they must be clear and understandable
to the individuals to whom they apply. Therefore a legal system is established by a union of primary
and secondary rules.
Hart disagrees with Austin that the foundations of a legal system consist of habits of obedience to a
legally unlimited authority, but consist of adherence to and acceptance of an ultimate rule of
recognition, by which the validity of a primary and secondary rule may be evaluated and should it
meet the criteria for the rule of recognition

Allegory and Symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Young...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown is an excellent example of the use of allegories and
symbolism as a form of satire on Puritan faith. According to Frank Preston Stearns, author of The Life
and Genius of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne may have intended this story as an exposure of the
inconsistency, and consequent hypocrisy, of Puritanism (Stearns 181). Throughout the story of Young
Goodman Brown, Hawthorne tries to infuse as many symbols and allegories as he can to enhance the
overall meaning of his story. He uses the village, Goodman Brown, Faith, the man in the forest, and
the time spent in the forest as either a symbol or an allegory to get his point across that Puritans are
not always what they seem to be. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the audience is aware of these two pieces of information they can infer that the allegory
Hawthorne is writing about is how he sees faith transitioning from a young faith to an adult faith of a
Puritan. Brown in the beginning of the story is a young Puritan with young faith, but by the end of the
story he has changed into an adult and does not know if he has faith anymore. Although Brown s faith
is questionable the books states that he continues to pray and go to church (Hawthorne 337), which
would be considered hypocritical to some. If Brown s name is exchanged with Hawthorne s the
readers can see why he saw the Puritans hypocritical and why he left his faith. Notably Faith, the
protagonist s wife, plays a huge role as an allegory and a symbol throughout Hawthorne s Young
Goodman Brown. In this story Faith s name plays as an allegory. At first this could easily be missed
because it sounds like a common name for a woman, but once the readers get further into the story
they realize that her name plays an enormous role in the story s plot. Faith s name symbolizes Brown s
faith in God. In the story when Brown meets the man in the forest the man says, You are late
Goodman Brown, and Brown replies, Faith kept me back awhile (Hawthorne 330). At this point of the
story the audience knows for

The Minoan Civilization On The Mediterranean Island Of...
The Minoan Civilization began on the Mediterranean island of Crete. It was first excavated by Sir
Arthur Evans. The possible civilization sparked his interest when a charm that the Minoans use to
wear was found, and it was brought to his attention. He started at Knossos, where the possible
civilization became a reality. He uncovered multiple palaces, which have all been named since then.
They are named: Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, and Zakros. Each one shows signs of religion, trade, and
politics. They believed these palaces controlled the Minoan civilization. These Palaces seemed to co
exist on this small island because there are no signs of wall fortifications or protection. Although they
were able to stand their ground when challenged because they made swords, daggers, and armor. The
Minoan civilization was intellectually advanced for their time. Hieroglyphics, writing, art, frescos, and
pottery. This civilization created three different writing styles, although the first was not complex and
structure enough to be considered a writing style. It only involved pictures and symbols simply drawn
to express a thought. This type of writing was mainly found in Knossos and Phaistos. The next type of
style was called Script A. Cretan Hieroglyphs and Linear A were likely very closely related and in fact
might be two scripts of the same writing system, but we do not know enough about either system to
draw any conclusions at this time (ancientscripts.com). Historians are unable to

Free College Essays-The Illegal Wildlife Trade
The Illegal Wildlife Trade Fads come and go. Parachute pants, scrunchies, Beanie Babies, bellbottoms
society desires newness, and very few things stand the test of time to become something more than
just a fad. Very few things provide the constant stimulation and intrigue necessary to hold the attention
of a society so deeply rooted in fast living and instant gratification. The illegal wildlife trade, however,
provides just enough of these things to fly smoothly under the radar while keeping the tight knit
network of people involved in it satisfied... well satisfied with a seemingly infinite source of
entertainment and intrigue as well as billions of dollars annually. This trade is an illegal network based
on poaching and capturing, smuggling and selling exotic and endangered species for a large profit. ...

Hours Worked: 22 Major depression, also known as unipolar depression, is one of the most common
mental illnesses. Over nine million adults each year suffer from depression. Many people don t
understand what depression really is, including myself until I did a lot of research over this subject.
Major depression is more than a temporary state of being sad. It is a persistent state that can
significantly impair an individual s thoughts, behavior, daily activities, and physical health. According
to The Stanford School of Medicine, they said that major depressive disorder impacts all racial, ethnic,
and socioeconomic groups and can occur at any age. (Depression Research Clinic) Depression is a
common, but serious illness that can occur in people of all ages; teenagers, adults, and older adults.
Depression is a condition that reportedly affects one in every ten Americans at some point in their
lives. The incidence of depression is actually higher in some states than others. Certain ethnicities also
report higher depression rates than others. According to Healthline, the number of patients diagnosed
with depression increases by approximately 20% each year. (Healthline) In the United States,
Oklahoma, Arizona, Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have the highest
reported rates of depression. These states also show high rates of other negative health outcomes such

this Earth compared to any other. Originality has lost its power.
Question 2: Now imagine that you need to go public with your feelings and opinions and convince
someone else to share at least some of the intensity you feel about this issue. Is there anything in your

Fahrenheit 451 was written by Ray Bradbury. This futuristic dystopia is about a community of people

reason the book is called Fahrenheit 451, because 451 degrees was the temperature at which the books
were all burned at. The novel is a social criticism to censorship in today s world. Finally, The novel

Case Study on Sulphur dioxide
Abstract
A study was done in South Durban using the health risk assessment model adopted from the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the Health effects of the air pollution from Sulphur
dioxide. Inhalation has been identified as the Sulphur Dioxide s main route of exposure hence it
affects the respiratory system. Prevalence range of respiratory diseases like asthma, chronic cough,
chronic phlegm, blocked runny nose and sinusitis.
Introduction
Sulphur dioxide is identified to be toxic when it has be breathed in and may cause burns and irritations
to the eyes and respiratory system due to the accumulation of fluid in the lungs. It is concluded that
about 99% of the sulphur dioxide in air comes from human sources and the main source is industrial
activities. Sulphur dioxide is a choking gas and may trigger an asthma attack (even some hours after
exposure). South Durban has several petrochemical refineries and chemical industries and with its
topography of a basin like shape. The structure aids with the accumulation of Sulphur dioxide in the

The Importance Of Conservation Biology
In areas of the world different species are becoming extinct at a rapid pace. This could be due to the
environmental forces acting against them or through acts such as hunting. The reason why
conservation biology has a deadline is because the effects of rising populations and the destruction
with habitats as a result of the increase. If the event where extinction could occur is caught early
enough then scientists would be able to perform conservation biology; however, in many instances if
the environmental forces such as pollution or warming climate continues then the species affected
would perish. This is the deadline for many species as scientists have been able to predict what might
happen in the future and have until that time to get the problem solved.
Although Conservation Biology is an important step in the scientific field which helps many different
species around the world. The largest tension this scientific field had was people were skeptical about
the science behind this. People had the feeling that this form of science would pass quickly because at
the time it was a large idea but then some new science idea would come along and the Conservation
Biology would dwindle away. The other aspect was the world s viewpoints on the field. The United
States groups and scientists attempted to look at the entire world s problems. This created tension
among other scientists around the world being accused of being indifferent to the conservation
traditions of other nations

Porphyrias Lover And My Last Duchess Comparison Essay
Comparison between Porphyrias Lover and My Last Duchess

different shades of feeling, regardless of whether it is the smooth stream of perfect otherworldly love
in The Last Ride Together or the complexities of brain and nature of affection in Porphyrias Lover and

My Last Duchess is about an individual from the respectability conversing with a minister concerning
his keep going spouse, who later on in the sonnet is uncovered to have been killed by the individual
talking, who is going to wed his second wife. Porphyria s Lover gives an understanding into the brain
of an uncommonly possessive significant other, who slaughters his partner keeping in mind the end
goal to catch that impeccable snapshot of empathy (Afsari 12). Porphyria s Lover utilizes a rotating
rhyme plot amid the greater part of the ballad aside from toward the end. The entire ballad is just a
single stanza long, and each line in the stanza includes eight syllables.
In My Last Duchess, the Duke takes a gander at the artistic creation of his last duchess and trails off to
the past. He talks about the admirers of the Duchess excellence and the coy responses of the Duchess
of them. At that point, he talks about how he closes this by executing the Duchess.
In My Last Duchess, the speaker is passed on as being controlling, pompous, malevolent, and
whimsical. The Duke hints at desire and over assurance towards his first spouse. Then again, the
storyteller in Porphyria s Lover is depicted as who has put some distance between realities, somebody
obviously crazy. There a couple of clues that this character might be desolate and pulled back. After
Porphyria goes into the room he is in, the

First, I would suggest the parent file to a formal complaint about the teachers if they feel the teacher is
treating Julia differently than every other student and singling her out. According to Washoe County
School District (WCSD) policy, student or parent must fill out the formal student complaint based on
allegations of discrimination. The WCSD board policy is specifically connected student issues and
parent complaints, not every concern or a complaint is covered under the WCSD policy and

  • 2. Research Methodology Essay The study of man contains a greater variety of intellectual styles than any other area of cultural endeavor. How different social scientists go about their work, and what they aim t accomplish by it, often do not seem to have a common denominator ... Let us admit the case of our critics from the humanities and from the experimental sciences: Social science as a whole is both intellectually and morally confused. And what is called sociology is very much in the middle of this confusion. Wright Mills Images of Man Abstract The quest for knowledge has always been at the forefront of societies mind. What makes us tick as a society or an individual, what circumstances have to come about to lead to different phenomena to occur? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [pic] The first level belongs to the observed human subjects, this consists of common sense and meanings which are true for these subjects and how they see themselves, which give rise to the behavior that they manifest in socially constructed settings. The second belongs to the observing organizational researcher. This understanding according to Lee is the researchers reading and interpretation of the first level, common sense understanding where the researcher may use concepts such as subjective interpretation, the hermeneutical circle or thick description. The third level of understanding also belongs to the researcher. This understanding is one that the researcher creates and tests in order to explain the empirical reality that he is investigating. This explanation is called scientific theory is made up of constructs that belong only to the observing researcher. This explanation consists of formal positions that typically posit the existence of unobservable entities such as social structure, issues that may attempt to account for the influence of certain factors of which the observed subjects may not even be aware. The above diagram shoes the flow of ideas and understanding between the three levels of understanding and the relevance of the two methods of research in question. • 3. The Man He Killed By Thomas Hardy Figurative Language The poem The Man He Killed by Thomas Hardy is symbolic of the subtle conflicted effects brought about as a result of war. And the speaker in the poem is a classic example of someone who is trying to cope with conflicting memories of what if? What if he had not gone to war and killed a man? What if he had met the man under different circumstances? Had he and I but met/By some old ancient inn/we should have sat us down to wet (lines 1 3). Imagery plays an important role at this point in the poem because the speaker conveys that the same man he killed in war, he would have been able to sit down and have a drink with him in totally different surroundings. The most important question, therefore, being asked by the speaker is whether or not this man that he killed could have possibly been his friend instead of foe had they not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The soldier accepts why he had to kill a man, yet he struggles with whether or not his actions during a time of war were justifiable. If not, then is he supposed to accept it because society has sanctioned it for the better good of the commonwealth? Scott 2 The casual colloquial language used by the speaker leaves the impression that he and his foe shared common backgrounds; Off hand like just as I /Was out of work had sold his traps (14 15). He identifies with the other man. They were probably both unemployed and the man he killed more than likely joined the army for the same reasons. They both had no other option. The speaker is certainly trying to come to terms with killing a man. And the use of repetition helps him to try and convince himself that he did the right thing. I shot at him as he at me,/And killed him in his place (7 8); I shot him dead because Because he was my foe (9 10). Standing face to face with his foe left him no choice but to kill the ... Read books that saved millions yet also fanned the flames of war. Texts that question reality, truth, knowledge, wisdom, happiness, and life itself . It seems silly to climb that academic ladder and never once question why. To search for the truth and values of the past is vital in creating a well rounded student, and more importantly a good person. This paper will examine exactly why the humanities are essential to all and the potential they carry. First and foremost, the humanities implore one to rethink the way in which they think. Allowing for discussion of these altering views creates a unique opportunity for students to dig into their values and ideas to formulate arguments. Students are forced to view topics from the perspective of others so that they might be able to sustain an argument. Furthermore, when ideas are discussed new points of views are exposed to students and suddenly this immeasurably important idea of awareness comes into play. Hearing different perspectives has the ability for students to better strengthen their argument as well as provide empathy and understanding among those of different backgrounds. For example, in class when we studied texts from the Bible I was forced to see and understand perspectives from students who don t come from a Catholic background. I consider myself catholic however my viewpoints don t always align with the Bible. After class discussion I have been able to interpret the Bible very differently and explore my personal beliefs more. I have been able to refine and deepen my personal views on many topics. In fact, studying the Bible has allowed me to strengthen my faith in my own unique way. A fact for which I am very grateful, a semi enlightenment that I would not have achieved without studying the humanities. Ultimately I can t stress the value of studies in the humanities. The police evidence suggested that Lee Harvey Oswald was not part of the conspiracy, but assassinated the president was his own initiative. If they have evidence that shows there were more people that involved with President Kennedy s assassination then why didn t they go find the other two that was involved with it, it could have solved the whole entire case instead of having it a mystery for 50 years. Oswald had always been a loner and an outsider. He had always been attracted to things that he liked to watch and wanted to become a Marine, learning Russian, defecting to Russia. After Oswald s father died, his life went downhill after that, Psychologists believe that a child who lives in isolated life as Oswald did often sees the world as an adversary. Truthfully, I am not one to give credit to the of use self assessments as a guideline to how I should act or what I should do in life. I am definitely an Extrovert as the Jungian Typology assessment proved, but there are days that I lean towards being an introvert just to survive and decompress. • 7. Quantitative Research Chapter 3 CHAPTER 3 RESEARCH METHODS 3.1 Research Approach There are two research approaches that researchers have to consider in conducting a research. Those are quantitative and qualitative research. While both approaches become standards for conducting a research, both approaches have major differences in answering research questions and gathering the valid data. Quantitative research can be described as an approach to which it explains a phenomenon expressed in numerical data and analyzed by using mathematically based statistical tools (Aliaga and Gunderson, 2000). As a conclusive research, quantitative research emphasizes what are the causes of the phenomenon, assuming people to have fixed factors to which it causes a phenomenon. Moreover, quantitative approach is more limited, emphasized only on measuring the quantity of phenomenon instead of describing it. Thus, quantitative research has less statistical tools compare to qualitative research. However, it has several advantages such as more time and cost saving. Regarding to this research, the author decides to use quantitative research in conducting a research. For this experiment, 5 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml, and 20 ml of lemon juice will be added to a sugar solution and this is the independent variable. The sizes of the crystals will be measured in millimeters and the experiment, will help to find, if an acid such as lemon juice, does affect the diameter of sugar crystals. The hypothesis is if the amount of lemon juice in the solution increases, then the diameter of the rock candy will decrease because the acid within the lemon juice will break down the sugars in the sugar water and will stunt the crystallization process. As mentioned, inverted sugars are much sweeter, and unlike sucrose, these sugars keep more moisture and water, but also can contribute to less crystallization. Juvenile Boot Camps Essay Running Head: Juvenile Boot Camps Juvenile Boot Camps John Coale TESST College CM102 Professor Tuer September 4, 2010 Abstract This paper will discuss the history of the canine dog. For example in some cases individuals are sentenced to a term of participation in boot camps for about 90 to 180 days which can substitute a jail term of about 10 years. However the equation of boot camp term and the jail term substituted usually varies with the boot camp facility and the state. In case juvenile offenders are not wiling to serve in boot camps, then they are compelled to serve their jail term. Therefore participation in boot camps is not compulsory and individuals can prefer to serve their original jail term instead. (Cowles, 2005) The first boot camp was opened in the United States in Georgia and Oklahoma around 1983. The initial set of the boot camps was to maximize the rate of deterrence, reduce the crowding in juvenile prison, to decrease the cost of penal and the correction system, and in order to reduce the rate of recidivism. Boot camps were however supposed to find a middle ground between restrictive prison system and the less strict probation. Boot camps are therefore less restrictive than the system in prisons and harsher than the system in probation. In the recent past, there had been some disquiet from some parents and juveniles about their life in juvenile camps. It is argued that some boots camps have been exposing juvenile to harsh military training exposing them to various dangers which they may not be prepared for. For example in 2006, boot camps were banned in Florida following the death of Lee Anderson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Definition Of Customary International Law Within the scope of customary international law there are some varying norms that the international law community must deal with, which can be broken down into three different categories from most important to least important: 1) norms in which the international community allows no derogation, these are known as peremptory norms or jus cogens, 2) norms that might allow for derogation, and 3) norms that aren t binding but some might argue should be. The classification of these customary norms is based off of both state practice and opinio juris. In order to determine state practice the states may look towards each other and how they react in similar scenarios. One debate surrounding this area is determining how many states need to sign off on an action to determine that sufficient state practice is occurring. Two sides of the argument are the actual number states versus the regionalization of the states. Opinio juris is defined as a state engaging in a certain activity because they believe they are under legal obligation to act. The idea of peremptory norms is older than modern international law itself (113). The idea of peremptory norms stems from the belief that certain actions are so heinous that in order for these to be prevented states shall not be allowed to derogate from adherence. The Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties shows the importance of peremptory norms in both Article 53 and 64. Article 53 states that a treaty is void if at the time of its ... To test this, 4 trials of two pH level solutions were prepared in order to obtain an average amount of CO2 produced. Twelve mL of yeast, 12 mL of glucose, and 4 mL of either a pH 2 solution or pH 10 solution were prepared in eight beakers, 4 per pH, and then poured into a flask, where the rate of fermentation was then measured in millimeters every 2 minutes for a total of 20 minutes. It was hypothesized that the rate of yeast fermentation of glucose would increase as pH increased. Our data results from the 8 flasks showed no statistical significance between yeast fermentation of glucose in a pH of 2 or pH of 10 solution. Using the final CO2 production level measured after 20 minutes, a t Test assuming equal variances was performed which supported our observations of no significant difference in the rate of yeast fermentation, which led us to accept our null hypothesis stating that a change in pH would have no effect on the rate of yeast fermentation of glucose. • 18. Difference Between Digital Reading And Digital Reading Digital Reading vs. Printed Reading For a person who loves to read, I could never imagine myself reading on a screen when it comes to the choice of print or digital reading. Whether it is for research, schoolwork, or just for fun, the articles I find online only encourages me to print them so that I could have a physical copy in my hands. That s when the inseparable feeling occurs to me: I feel more of an attachment between the physical copy of the text and myself. I become so indulged in the text that my surroundings disappear. I can ultimately understand what I m reading and grasp all the book s pearls. Many people who enjoy reading can reminisce with the same feelings that I have experienced. Even many of those who read for the sake of completing a task can admit that there s not much of a strain when comparing print to digital reading. This is why reading from a book is still a necessity in our daily lives: it allows for a better grasp of information, greater memory production, and an enjoyable experience that the reader can always appreciate. When we read from books, our brains can attain more information at a more accurate and faster rate, resulting in greater scores when displaying comprehension skills in the long run. Lauren Singer and Patricia Alexander, scholars of University of Maryland, proves this instance in their experiment, Reading Across Mediums: Effects of Reading Digital and Print Texts on Comprehension and Calibration (2016). • 19. Women s Status Of Inferiority In pre Islamic societies, women were held in high regards as matriarchal communities widely existed. Their biology, with its ability to reproduce, enabled women to be worshipped for they were the principle of creating life; this fact opposed androcentric theories that state how the nature of women dictated a status of inferiority (Ahmed 11). However, as many scholars and theorists have noted, the decline of women s status in pre Islamic societies was likely from urbanization. As warfare increased from city states expanding their territories, warrior culture generated male dominance, and the reproductive capacity of women were looked to for providing labor power, making them be seen as property (Ahmed 12). In many instances, the rise of urban societies negatively affected women as Leila Ahmed stated in Women and Gender in Islam and as demonstrated in late Sumerian, Babylonian, and Assyrian cultures. The complexities of these civilizations produced military competitiveness, escalating the aspects of male dominance and classes that further demeaned women (Ahmed 12). However, the rise of Islam rectified the unjust social constructs as women were given more independence, being considered equals and companions to men. In 5000 to 3000 BC, the first city states developed in southern Mesopotamia by the Sumerian people. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hart says that all laws differ from the commands of a sovereign because they may apply to those individuals who enact them (i.e. the president and the legislature) and not just to other individuals (South African citizens). Laws may also differ from coercive orders in that they don t only have to impose duties and obligations (primary rules of obligations) but can also confer powers and privileges. According to hart in order for primary rules to work properly they need secondary rules in order to effective. The function of secondary rules is to enable legislators to make changes in the primary rules (legislation) should the primary rules be found to be defective in any way. Secondly they may be necessary in order to enable courts to resolve disputes over the interpretation and application of primary rules. Therefore the secondary rules of a legal system may include rules of recognition, change and adjudication. For these primary rules to be followed they must be clear and understandable to the individuals to whom they apply. Therefore a legal system is established by a union of primary and secondary rules. Hart disagrees with Austin that the foundations of a legal system consist of habits of obedience to a legally unlimited authority, but consist of adherence to and acceptance of an ultimate rule of recognition, by which the validity of a primary and secondary rule may be evaluated and should it meet the criteria for the rule of recognition ... Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown is an excellent example of the use of allegories and symbolism as a form of satire on Puritan faith. According to Frank Preston Stearns, author of The Life and Genius of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne may have intended this story as an exposure of the inconsistency, and consequent hypocrisy, of Puritanism (Stearns 181). Throughout the story of Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne tries to infuse as many symbols and allegories as he can to enhance the overall meaning of his story. Once the audience is aware of these two pieces of information they can infer that the allegory Hawthorne is writing about is how he sees faith transitioning from a young faith to an adult faith of a Puritan. Brown in the beginning of the story is a young Puritan with young faith, but by the end of the story he has changed into an adult and does not know if he has faith anymore. Although Brown s faith is questionable the books states that he continues to pray and go to church (Hawthorne 337), which would be considered hypocritical to some. If Brown s name is exchanged with Hawthorne s the readers can see why he saw the Puritans hypocritical and why he left his faith. Notably Faith, the protagonist s wife, plays a huge role as an allegory and a symbol throughout Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown. In this story Faith s name plays as an allegory. At first this could easily be missed because it sounds like a common name for a woman, but once the readers get further into the story they realize that her name plays an enormous role in the story s plot. The possible civilization sparked his interest when a charm that the Minoans use to wear was found, and it was brought to his attention. He started at Knossos, where the possible civilization became a reality. He uncovered multiple palaces, which have all been named since then. They are named: Knossos, Phaistos, Malia, and Zakros.
