Against Death Penalty Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Against Death Penalty" can be a challenging task due to the
sensitive and complex nature of the subject. The debate surrounding the death penalty involves
ethical, moral, legal, and societal considerations, requiring careful research and thoughtful
analysis. Crafting a compelling argument against the death penalty involves delving into various
aspects such as human rights, the possibility of wrongful convictions, the effectiveness of capital
punishment as a deterrent, and the moral implications of taking a life as a form of punishment.
One difficulty lies in navigating through the emotional aspects associated with the topic.
Discussions about life and death, justice, and morality can elicit strong emotions from readers.
Striking a balance between presenting a rational argument and acknowledging the emotional
aspects requires finesse in writing. It's crucial to avoid overly emotional language while still
conveying the gravity of the subject matter.
Additionally, constructing a well-reasoned essay involves extensive research to support the
arguments against the death penalty. Analyzing case studies, legal precedents, and scholarly
articles is essential to provide a comprehensive and well-supported perspective. The essay should
address counterarguments effectively, demonstrating a nuanced understanding of the opposing
views.
Furthermore, the writer needs to be aware of the diverse opinions and perspectives on the death
penalty. Considering the cultural, religious, and political variations in beliefs about punishment
and justice adds complexity to the task. Crafting an essay that respects diverse viewpoints while
making a persuasive case against the death penalty requires careful consideration and diplomacy.
In conclusion, writing an essay against the death penalty is a challenging endeavor that demands
thorough research, analytical thinking, and a nuanced understanding of the various aspects of the
topic. Balancing the emotional and rational components, addressing counterarguments, and
respecting diverse perspectives are essential elements in creating a well-crafted essay on this
controversial subject.

Paper On Flint Water Crisis
Flint Water Crisis
Chemistry is a branch of science that deals various compositions of matter which
involves investigating properties that affect us directly, including our environment
and our way of life. One of such issues is the public water contamination of Flint,
Michigan. The state experienced a water crisis for almost two years continuously,
which highly devastated the town since its main water source had been contaminated.
There were increasing levels of lead in the city s drinking water
(Broadsidedpress.org). The issue started in 2014 when the city of Flint changed its
source of water from their original source, Detroit Water and Sewerage Department,
where they received treated water, to the Flint River. Drinking water from Flint
River had a series of problems, including lead and bacterial contamination, which led
to serious health issues (Dixon). Flint River water was corrosive thus it caused lead
from old pipes leach into the water supply and this caused very high levels of metal
neurotoxins in the water. So many children have been exposed to the contaminated
water leading to a series of health issues. The children have elevated blood lead
levels and the number increased drastically from 2014 to 2015 (Dixon). The change
in the water source also led to Legionnaire s disease breakdown that killed more than
ten people while affecting another 77 in 2015. Due to this issue, many people and
organizations stepped in to aid the city of Flint by providing them with bottled
Analysis Of Friedman s Capitalism And Freedom
Econ 160 Term Paper Part 1 As Milton Friedman once said, Freedom is a rare and
delicate plant. Our minds tell us and history confirms that the great threat to
freedom is the concentration of power. Government is necessary to preserve our
freedom, it is an instrument through which we can exercise our freedom; yet by
concentrating power and political hands, it is also a threat to freedom. Friedman s
Capitalism and Freedom takes us into the mind of an economic genius and shows
us his beliefs in a free market and the threat it presents to a dictatorship. Friedman,
clearly a supporter of the free market, gives examples to show how a free market
can aid a society in striving for success, becoming more dominant, and becoming
more powerful. Though, at times he does show how a free market has
disadvantages and he makes us aware as to how it can aid people in gaining
individualism, knowledge, and overall improving a society. A free market is one
that the price of a good or service is determined by supply and demand, in theory,
rather than by government regulation. Milton s thoughts and theory is that through
a robust free market with political freedom, economic freedom will follow.
Showing how economic freedom is a crucial toward the success of political
freedom, Friedman s theory of a free market and the Do Nothing Principle are major
themes throughout his book. A dictatorship is a form of government ruled by a
single party or a single party of dictators. In this form of
Analysis Of Percival Everitt s Monk By Yul Monk
The line is, you re not black enough, Yul, Monk s literary agent, declares to Monk
as he learns the latest of his novels is amongst a stack of rejections. This
proclamation marks Monk s seventeenth rejection by publishing companies. The
lead character and protagonist, Monk, also known as Thelonious Ellison, is an
avant garde novelist and professor of English literature, much like his creator,
author Percival Everitt, who published Erasure in 2001. Monk prides his literary
writings of obscure papers and does not see them, nor any of his works, as works
of color. He describes himself as a man of many different interests, and even tells the
reader of the things he is not capable of doing, but allows the reader to take his
inferences to come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gender profiling is another atrocity controlled by the hands of publication
companies. Not to suggest the similarities between race and gender are identical,
but to point out that injustices being handed out from the media are nothing new.
For example, women in centuries past used pseudonyms to get their work
published, such as Louisa May Alcott who penned her early writings under the
name of A.M. Barnard, gaining notoriety first as a male writer before publishing
works under her real name. Society and publishers have long held an ideology as
to what material would be best suited for writers, according to society s impression
of one s race and gender. The struggle still exists for writers today. For example,
publishers thought it acceptable for author Scott Westerfeld to pen the Uglies
series, whose main character is a fifteen year old girl, yet, the famous Harry Potter
series author, J.K. Rowling was told it was not wise for a woman to be writing
from the perspective of a young boy. Therefore, she was asked by her publisher to
forego the usage of her first name and also to create a middle initial. Rowling also
wanted to write crime novels, but to do so successfully, in the world of literary
critics, she adopted the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith. After all, who would buy
any other type of genre after the success Harry
Explain What Black Belt Means To Me Essay
What Tae Kwon Do Means to Me
Whenever I mention that I do martial arts, the first question that is posed to me is
Are you a black belt? Well, now I finally have the answer. Yes. My black belt holds
a significant value in my life and it always will. So far, this is the biggest
achievement for me and my family played an equally important role in this
accomplishment. After all, tae kwon do truly means a lot to me.
I earned my black belt after three and a half years of hard work and dedication. Great
devotion is needed to reach to this rank. Therefore, I am honored to call myself a
black belt. As taken into consideration, reaching to the stage of black belt is similar
to reaching a high skill level in life. I pursue it as a sign of respect. Once I ve earned
my black belt, I hope to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My black belt will help me fulfill this goal as it will give me a reason to stick to my
goal. In karate class, the instructors over there didn t wanted perfection, they wanted
us to try our best. It will remind me not to give up. The black belt represents a level of
appreciation, humanity, trust, life, love, courage, strength, knowledge, self discipline,
coordination, friendship, and willingness to do what is right. These character traits
will help me to understand my patient and guide them with the right advice.
My family is one of a kind. They support me all the time. My dad comes home each
day after doing an eight hour shift and manages all the bill payments. My mom
cooks, cleans, goes to job, helps me and my brother with homework, and drops
/ picks us up from classes every single day. Last but not least, my brother is always
there for me. He shares everything with me, even his favorite chocolates. And he is
the one that teaches me the forms that I didn t get in the karate class. Even though
we fight a lot, I couldn t have asked for a better brother than him. I love my family
very much and they will always be dear to
The Los Angeles Intervention Approach
The Los Angeles intervention approach produces positive and negative attributes to
combating gang related criminality. Gangs in society today, are problematic in many
aspects. There are many different avenues city officials can take to combat or reduce
gang related crime. Various methodologies have been used to take on this problem
and have had successful results (Spergel,1986). The general idea is that if gang
members will not respond to ordinary social agency programs, then the programs
must move out to the streets in order to achieve change (Klein,1965, p3. 183). Law
enforcement takes on a tremendous role in reducing crimeand ensuring public safety.
Gang related crime is a prominent adversary for not only local communities, but
our brave men and women. obviously they are having a tough time reducing gang
s jurisdiction as seen in Chicago and other large cities. One of the many problems
they face is going into the gang s battlefields where bullets are being fired and yet
protect themselves also. As one of the interviewees in Scotts article said, it would
take the police at least an hour to come to his neighborhood when firearms are being
fired (Scott, 2004, p.119). Theoretically, it is impossible for law enforcement to stop
individuals from committing gang related crime if they are not nearby to see what is
taking place. Intervention of gang violence can not be law enforcement alone. The
Los Angelescity sanctioned gang intervention workers initially produces
Haitian Communication History
2.2.2.A Brief History of Spanish, French, Haitian, and Other Languages in Haiti The
following history sets a contextual stage for the present linguistic state in Haiti.
Furthermore, having an understanding of the languages that have and do influence
communication in Haiti is relevant to this analysis because it helps to explain why
services with no Haitian clinical crew members may need an interpreter/translator and
why communications are often in more than one language.
The island of Hispaniola is divided into the DR which takes up the eastern 2/3 of the
island and the Republic of Haiti which is on the remaining 1/3 of the western portion
of the island. Currently the national language of the DR is Spanish and the national

In addition to this, there are several foreign political and humanitarian organizations
that operate in Haiti whose workers bring their native languages with them. I was
unable to find census type information or other demographics that show the
percentage or even the existence of languages in Haiti other than the two national
languages and Spanish. However, a basic internet search revealed that Haiti hosts
embassies of 35 different countries that have the following national languages:
English, Spanish, German, Dutch, Czech, Danish, Finish, Greenlandic, Filipino,
Polish, Swedish, Standard Chinese, Italian, and Portuguese (I Looked up the

Ancient Civilization Sculpture Essay
1. Bronze statuette of Aphrodite
Date: late 2nd or 1st century B.C.Culture: Greece This statue of Aphrodite shows
the dedication the Greeks had to their gods. The bronze goddess, holding her right
arm in the air, gives off a powerful attitude. As the pose itself of the statue is not
bland and more active, it gives the impression that this was created during the
classical period of Greece when sculpture began having more relaxed, natural poses.
The lack of more painstaking muscle and bone structure probably places it in the
earlier part of the classical period though. What is most intriguing about the sculpture
is the white eyes she is given that, in the face of a more natural, realistic human form,
the eyes seem to retain an essence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The materials used were alabaster and limestone. The figure itself is roughly cut
with clasped praying hands, unproportional body and shoulder sizes, and large
unnatural eyes. Again, this lack of realism is significant to the time; the focus was
not on the realistic portrayal of who it was fashioned for, but what ritual and religious
purpose it served.
4. Limestone grave relief with two sphinxes Date: late 5th century B.C.Culture:
Greece The sphinxes were popular mythical creatures, playing their part in myths and
legends and stories throughout time including the story of Oedipus, and the riddle of
the sphinx. The beauty of the sphinx in this piece shows how much was passed
around throughout Western culture. Egypt also memorialized the sphinx through wall
art and sculpture, and this continuation (despite the nonexistence of the sphinx as a
real creature) shows how much truly does carry on throughout history. This relief
piece has subtle dimension, making it low relief rather than high relief.
5. Terracotta statuette of a standing woman Date: late 4th century B.C.Culture:
Greek, Corinthian The woman, with the delicately draped clothing gives off a very
natural, realistic impression. The painstakingly specific cuts of the woman s clothes
look so realistic the way they drape over her body. The Hellenistic era was very
focused on making sculpture perfect from all angles
Teenage Driver Observation Paper
On March 30, 2018, a call was dispatched about a possible drunk driver traveling
eastbound on Highway 90, passing Highway 57. The reporting party described the
vehicle as an older model Dodge truck faded red in color.
I was sitting in my vehicle at the police department when I observed a Dodge Ram
matching the description drive past me. They were traveling at a speed of 30
MPH in a 45 MPH speed zone. When I got behind the vehicle I noticed they were
traveling while touching the left center line, they also had a bunch of miscellaneous
items hanging from their rear view mirror obstructing their view. I initiated my blue
lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop. We pulled into the Mcdonald s parking lot
off of Highway 90. Sgt. Fowler then pulled up and assisted me on my traffic stop.
The vehicle consisted of three passengers. The driver was identified as Ricky Smith,
the back passenger was identified as Tony Teauge, and the front passenger was Smith
s mother.
After asking Smith for a valid driver s license and proof of insurance, he stated he
does not have a valid license and that it is suspended. Smith stated his mother was at
the casino in Biloxi and was too drunk to drive. Smith went and picked her up

Voluntary Memory In Edmund Wilson s An Old Stone
House
. He goes on to explain that unlike voluntary memory, a madeleine moment is
dependent on chance. Furthermore, Proust s madeleine experience initiated for him a
whole chain of association, and from this he achieved the eventual restoration of an
entire vanished world. While voluntary memory can help develop an informal
timeline of events along with major details such as location, involuntary memoryfills
in the gaps to a greater extent or even uncovers a different timeline while restoring
feelings and senses connected to the recollection. This type of memory is
simulated by something as simple as a pastry, or in Edmund Wilson s case, a
window. In An Old Stone House , Wilson uses voluntary memory to recollect the
history and major details of his childhood home. Furthermore, his journey back to
this childhood home is what triggers his involuntary memory. Sitting on a train to
Talcottville, Wilson narrates, As I go north for the first time in years... I look out
through the dirt yellowed double pane and remember how once, as a child, I had
felt thwarted till I had gotten the windows up so that there should be nothing
between me and the widening pastures. Suddenly, when submersed in a familiar
setting, Wilson remembers how he felt as a boy on the same train. The window
reveals to Wilson exactly how he felt decades ago, thus restoring a series of
memories essential to further recollecting his youth in upstate New York and writing
his memoir. For Proust it was a pastry, Wilson
character Analysis what of this fish would you wish Essay
The short story What, of this goldfish, Would You Wish? is a emotive short story

Yonatan an ambitious young documenter, he has a bombastic idea for a documentary
which he decides to solely execute by himself. Yoni with his one man film crew

question to a diverse selection of people.
Yonaton would ask them a simple question: If you found a talking goldfish that

This trust is a trait only a young and innocent character could have. An example of
this is he is unafraid as he knowingly aggravates Sergei who would not usually
during a first encounter seen as someone that would tolerate Yonatan s pushy and
insistent behaviour. His character completely contrasts Sergei s. As his perception of
people is the complete opposite to Yonatan s, he naturally assumes everyone has
illВintentions, and figures that no one would say or do anything to him without a
ulterior motive. This is the very definition of a paranoid person. An example of this
is in the very first sentence he comes in contact with Yonatan. he assumes he is a
homosexual because he has a earring, he is searching for any explanations as to why
someone would want to speak to him. 4 paragraphs later Sergei has come to the
conclusion that Yonatan s motive is to steal his goldfish, he feeds his paranoiawith
this idea.
As he becomes increasingly anxious and paranoid, his narrative became cluttered
and fast paced. This trait is important to Sergei s character because it shows that
Sergei s character is scared, it shows that he killed Yonatan out of fear, not out of
violent intention or anger. This creates the controversy to whether he is a dangerous
person.
Sergei s interactions consist of him being fearful of what the persons intentions are,
he cannot accept that some people speak to him without having the intention of
hurting him in some way. This inevitably
A Letter About Fice Essay
Walking into the office, Carrie noticed that everyone seemed tense. She walked to
Melissa s desk, an old friend and coworker, and stated, What s going on? Why does
everyone look so agitated? she said in a low voice. We re about to have a meeting
again because of someone else s mistake, Melissa replied, biting on her lip. What
happened? . Well, Jerry wrote a letter venting about the Boss, and he made a mistake
and sent it to him. What! , Carrie stated. He didn t try to send it to him. His intent
was to send it to Maggie, but he sent it to the Boss instead. And it gets worst Maggie
was also talking about leaving the company as well in the letter. Carrie shook her
head as they walked into the meeting. As the conference started the Boss began to
speak in a manner that no adult should talk to another. He screamed and sculled at
everyone when they had nothing to do with the incident. By the time the meeting was
over many were talking about leaving the company. Some stated that the way he
communicated with them was very unprofessional, and they felt disrespected. Others
stated they were going to file complaints. Personally, I don t think the Boss handled
himself in a professional way. As a leader you must know the role of communication

Essay On Exclusionary Rule
The Exclusionary Rule The Constitution is the most important document in America
s history. However, it does create much controversy because of its context. The Fourth
Amendment is just one of the many parts of the document causing contention within
the country. The Fourth Amendment states, the right of the people to be secure in
their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and
seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause,
supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be
searched, and the persons or things to be seized. (The Exclusionary Rule).

United States. In this case an appeal was made for a defendant who had been
convicted of a crime based on evidence that was found without a warrant or any
other type of justification from the Constitution. Later the defendant s conviction was
reversed by the Supreme Court, creating the exclusionary rule (The Fourth
Amendment). In further actions by the Supreme Court, the case of Mapp VS. Ohio,
allowed the exclusionary rule to be applied to all of the states (The Fourth
Amendment). The exclusionary rule was created by the court as a remedy and
deterrent, it was not meant to be a constitutional right. Its purpose was to deter law
enforcement officers from conducting searches or seizures in violation of the Fourth
Amendment and provide remedies to defendants whose rights were infringed upon
(Exclusionary Rule). This encouraged many individuals to become opponents of the
rule. In 1995 the United States Senate and the United States House of
Representatives, proposed legislation in hopes to abolish the exclusionary rule.
Their goal was to put a stop to illegally seized evidence from criminal cases. The

because prescriptions drug use will increase overall as the population

Decibel Level Of Hearing Impairness
Deaf with a capital D As the textbook describes, hearing loss and impairments are
described in terms of loudness (decibels) and pitch (frequency or hertz). Because
there is a correlation between general knowledge and the degree of hearing loss, it is
imperative that the teacher understand the amount of hearingloss for a student
diagnosed with a hearing impairment. The hearing loss may range from slight to
profound, depending on the decibel level needed for the individual to hear sounds at
different frequencies. Hearing loss can also characterized by where the problem

middle ear it is a conductive loss. If the problems exist in the inner ear and auditory
The First Day Of September 1939
On the first day of September 1939, the whole globe was about to witness the
deadliest war ever recorded in history. This devastating war lasted for six years.
The Allies victories in World War II came from the sacrifices made by the US
Marines in order to win many battles. However, in order to make these sacrifices
for the prosperity of the Allied forces and their struggle against Adolf Hitler s
National Socialist Party and his own allies, Japan, Italy, and the USSR, one must
go through intense preparation and learn what it means to be a US Marine. In
order to become a Marine, one requires a certain number of weeks of training. Over
the course of the war, these numbers fluctuated, as low as four weeks and as high as
eight weeks, but in the end the required amount was finalized as seven weeks.
During these weeks the newly recruited boots marched for miles under the drill
instructors vigorous and watchful eyes on a regular basis. They also learned over a
thousand subjects, including hand to hand combat, interacting with weaponry and
other equipments, gallantry, and many others. Using the rifle was one of the most
important and special subjects. Over the course of time, all the boots learned to
grow a close relationship with their guns. As an unknown individual once said, ...We
did not know how comforting it would be among enemies, or that we would feel
alone and naked without it.... Then there was Record Day, which was a whole day
dedicated to shooting targets. All the

Frankenstein s monster begins his life full of hope, displaying care for other people
and a desire for knowledge despite the abandonment and confusion he feels.
Somewhere along the road of his life, however, the creature s pain and loneliness

his outside world become too much to endure? Could he have ignored his reality and
continued to live in hope of a better time? Furthermore, how can we apply the
creature s struggle to humanity?
Circumstances or events in a person s life can affect him or her in a multitude of
ways and at a multitude of times. At the beginning of the book, Frankenstein s

crime as a distant evil; benevolence and generosity were ever present before me,
inciting within me a desire to become an actor in the busy scene where so many
admirable qualities are called forth and displayed (130). The creature is referring
to his time watching the cottagers, whom he observed and admired from afar for a
time at the beginning of his life. He sees only the good in these people and thus
looks on the world and his life from a positive point of view. He claims that crime

Tash is gone Nomi develops insomnia and has nightmares of Tash screaming while

Substance Use Of Substance Use Disorder
Substance use may be viewed as recreational to some, however to others, it is the
beginning of the road to an addiction. According to the fifth edition of the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: DSM V (2013), a
diagnosis of substance use disorder is based on evidence of impaired control,
social impairment, risky use, and pharmacological criteria. Substance use disorders
occur when recurring drug use, including alcohol, causes clinically and functionally
significant damage, such as health problems, disability, and failure to meet major
responsibilities at work, school, or home. These criteria are nearly identical to that
of addiction, which is a reason they are used interchangeably. In the last decade,
substance use, particularly illicit drug use, has been increasing ( DrugFacts:
Nationwide trends | National Institute on Drug Abuse , 2014). Is this due to the high
stress society in which we live, or an individual s predisposition to addiction? In all
likelihood it is a combination of both, as well as emotionregulation, a process which
allows for the evaluation, monitoring, and modifying of emotional reactions to
accomplish goals. This paper will address the possible role of emotion regulation on
substance use disorders and the research behind it.
Although drugs vary in their chemical makeup and pharmacological properties, many
drugs are used and abused due to their anxiolytic and euphoric effects, increasing
positive emotions and alleviating many
Johnson Munson Syndrome Analysis
Johnson Munson syndrome is a rare syndrome identified by missing abnormal
vertebrae, fingers and toes and various deformities of the heart, lungs, intestines,
pancreas and intestines. Ophanet a consortium of European partners defines a
condition as rare. In the US population, less than 200,000 people can possibly be
affected by Johnson Munson Syndrome or second type of Johnson Munson
syndrome. (Orphanet 2015)
Johnson Munson syndrome will start within the DNA from the formation of the fetus
at birth. There are birth defects that cause the variety of disfiguring parts of the
body. There for the limbs may not be of proper size and these could consist of a toe
or finger missing. The toes and fingers can also be grown together, arms, and legs

Jeff Jacoby s Bring Back Flogging Essay
Jeff Jacoby s Bring Back Flogging
This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm otherwise
known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in
this essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort
there is a contrast between what is said and what is meant.
Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging should be brought back to replace
the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of violent and non
violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial
mention of the Puritan punishment system. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins
was Flogged and branded for selling guns and weapons ... Show more content on

Jacoby s argument of flogging attempts to show how it can be more productive
over the conventional method of punishment seemingly the only way,
imprisonment. His beliefs are that public whippings will prevent youths and first
time offenders from becoming lifelong felons. The benefits deduced from his
argument for flogging assuming it proves to be conclusive would be such.
Lowering the rate of felons in jail, freeing up space for the more violent offenders.
The appalling estimated amount of thirty thousand a year per inmate would be
saved. A public whipping would not be associated with respect and sign of
manhood or status symbol that prison serves for many offenders. Flogging he
believes would deter many of the first time offenders and youth along with
preventing them from being repeat and long time offenders. The pain, scars, and
embarrassment of public whippings would far exceed the value or risk reward
benefit of doing a petty crime thus forcing people to think about their actions before
they did it. Jacoby contends that he is unsure whether being whipped is more
degrading that being caged. At the end of his essay he draws attention to the point of
the terrible risk of being raped in prison as an argument in favor of replacing
imprisonment with flogging.
I think that Jacoby appeals to the readers sense of sympathy for the wrongly

Holy Spirit Analysis
I attended an Assembly of God church service. I have gone to many Christian church
services before, as I grew up Methodist and have also attended Baptist services, but
the service I attended was slightly different because it was Pentecostal. They are also
Evangelical. I learned that they believe in biblical infallibility, meaning they believe
that anything that the Bible says regarding Christianityand faith is true and there
cannot be any errors in the text. One characteristic of Evangelicalism is crucicentrism,
which is the attention that they give to the atonement of Christ that offers
forgiveness of all sins and freedom from guilt. They also consider activism very
important, meaning they share the gospel with others in a variety of ways.... Show

There were some similarities to other services I have been to, but also quite a few
differences. In class we mainly learned about the big Christian denominations:
Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant. However, there are tons of
branches of Christianity such as Methodist, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Baptist,
Lutheran, etc. Going through each branch could really be a course in itself,
considering how many there are. Because we did not have the time to learn about all
of the differences of each branch, it was fascinating to attend a service in which I
could learn more about one particular branch of Christianity.
I learned a lot about what Pentecostals value most just by listening to the service. It
was obvious that they consider baptisms to be extremely important in your
commitment to God. Prayer and music are major forms of worship in Pentecostal
services. They also serve others both in and outside of the church, and work to spread
the word of God in the community. Throughout the service, they made multiple
references to the Holy Trinity, one being of three
John Stuart Mill The Harm Principle
This essay will discuss John Stuart Mill s Harm Principle and his views about
paternalism in relation to whether the New Zealand government should prohibit the
non therapeutic use of cannabis in New Zealand. Taking advantage of available
research, along with discussion of the Harm Principle, this essay will argue that non
therapeutic use of cannabis in New Zealand should not be prohibited.
John Stuart Mill s Harm Principle is the idea that, The only purpose for which power
can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his
will, is to prevent harm to others. 1 In other words, the state or society at large may
only interfere in an individual s life if that individual s actions pose a large enough

It is not meant to be applied to children or individuals in a state of excitement or
drunkenness unable to reflect such competency at that moment .1 John Stuart Mill s
position on paternalism is an aspect of the Harm Principle. Weak paternalism
concerns the intervention in individuals lives who do not meet the requirements to be
considered autonomous or competent. In essence, the Harm Principle and weak
paternalism are aimed at two different parts of society.
In New Zealand, the government is currently interfering in its citizen s lives by
prohibiting the recreational use of cannabis. This interference largely affects mature
and rational decision makers. In this case the Harm Principle does apply. We need
to ask, what is the alleged/predicted harm from the recreational use of cannabis? Is it
probable or certain and is there any physiological and or psychological
The United States Attack on Irak in 2003
The United States attacked Iraq on March 19, 2003. The question of whether this
action is a case of justified anticipatory self defense or not is answered by clearly
understanding the definition of anticipatory self defense . Anticipatory self
defense basically says that if you have a good reason to believe that someone is
going to harm you in a particular way, you can act first. The proper definition
would have two conditions; There is clear and convincing evidence that the
proposed target has the ability to strike a devastating blow and There is clear and
convincing evidence that the proposed target has the inclination to strike a
devastating blow . That being said, the decision to go to war with Iraqwas a decision
based upon dishonesty and a one sided perspective. Therefore, U.S does not qualify
to call it a case of justified anticipatory self defense so; it was not a last resort as it
had other less violent options. There are several reasons as to why I believe it was
a very weak case. Firstly, U.S made mistakes that led to inaccurate conclusions that
Iraq obtained weapons of mass destruction. These mistakes were not honest
mistakes but rather an intentional manipulation by the government. The primary
reason to invade Iraq was to get rid of Saddam Hussein, who is believed (by U.S
officials) to pose future threats to the U.S as he obtains WMD. However, the UN
under Hans Blix who had access to all the government buildings had a team working
in the grounds of Iraq
Transgender Bathroom Debate
A man stands in front of two bathroom signs, contemplating door which to enter: use
the bathroom of the gender to which he does not identify, (consequently feeling
safer) or use the bathroom for the gender he identifies as but risk getting kicked out
or even assaulted? Fearing the repercussions the man enters the toilet labelled male,
praying the stalls are empty. This is an example of what a transgenderindividual
undergoes every day, just to accomplish something most people take for granted. The
Oxford English dictionary defines transgender as: Denoting or relating to a person
whose sense of personal identity and genderdoes not correspond with their birth sex.
Inversely, a cis gender individual s gender identityand birth sex do correspond.
The bathroom debate is just one small part of what transgender people go through:
transgender people have to fight for authenticity as well as equality. An average
young person might have ID when buying alcohol or their passport checked at the
airport. However trans people s true gender identity is questioned very often, and in a
very different way. For example, for young people or transgender individuals coming
out it may be dealing with parents insisting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A defining statement form the bill is: the civil rights of a group are more important
than the right of another group not to feel uncomfortable . Thus prevented
transgender individuals from using the bathroom to which they identify. The main
argument for the Bill was the perceived safety of cis gendered individuals from trans
attacks. The invalidity of this argument stems from the fact that there are no reported
cases of transgender attacks on cis gender individuals in bathrooms. As the national

Causes Of Birth Defects
Causes of Birth Defects
Every day a baby is born with a birth defect, and these defects range from minor
abnormalities that need no treatment, to severe defects that may need surgery, need
medication, or even cause disabilities. Caused by environmental influences or
inheritance, a birth defect is a biochemical or physical abnormality present at birth.
Around 4,000 birth defects have been discovered throughout the years and each year
1 out of 33 babies are born with a defect ( Gupta ). What mothers do while pregnant
can be a major factor that causes a birth defect. The most common causes of birth
defects include smoking, alcohol use, and recreational drug use while pregnant.
Smoking during pregnancy is one of the most common causes of birth defects in
babies. If a mother is smoking during her pregnancy the fetus is also experiencing the
effects smoking can cause. On average twenty percent of women smoke during their
pregnancies causing 1,000 baby deaths each year in the United States ( Smoking
During Pregnancy ). Smoking during pregnancy accounts for thirty percent of babies
born underweight, fourteen percent of premature labors, and ten percent of all infant
deaths ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). The placenta connects from the uterus to the
developing fetus, giving the baby the nutrients and oxygen it needs to grow. When a
mother inhales the poisonous gases from the cigarette, they travel into the mother s
blood stream and through the placenta into the fetus. While this

Research shows that there is a correlation that shows the relationshop between the
IQ and the grade point average of students. It was found that the correlation is
strong at a .75 because it s a direct relationship. For instance when someone has a
higher IQ they are more likely going to have a higher GPA. However although the
correlation shows a higher IQ means higher GPA does not meanthat is the only
reason the GPA is rising, it could be because they hired a tutor, have been studying
more or are maybe just in more interesting classes. In correlation studies they show
that there is a relationship between two different variables however it is not
evidence or proof in any way. The reason it isn t proof is because it has not been
proven that they are directly the reason for the relationship however that they do have
common results. Some of the reasons correlation cannot prove anything is because of
the limitations; these would be the lack of information about the correlation, sample
size or the standard deviation. In our text it states If the word correlation is broken
down co relation it is expresses what is meant: The characteristics are related and the
evidence for the relationship is that they vary together, or co vary. As the level of one
variable changes, the other changes in concert, this happens because both variables
contain some of the same information. The higher the correlation the more they may
have in common (Tanner,2011). When looking at the

the dangerous and threatening organization its image is associated to be now. In fact,
there was a time where Asahara and Aum Shinrikyo members had taken up an attitude
similar to that of a humble missionary. However, the Aum Shinrikyofaith, as well as
Asahara, had been obsessed with some of the philosophies of the Bible, the Book of

The religion also holds the claim that Asahara is the only person to have attained the
highest level of consciousness and that he is in the state of Nirvana; Asahara even
claimed to be Christ. Tibetan beliefs of extrasensory experiences are also included in
the Aum Shinrikyo faith, with clairvoyance, levitation, and the ability to see through
walls being some of these extrasensory abilities that Asahara promoted and claimed
to have (news.bbc.co.uk; fas.org). According to John Pike, the Aum Shinrikyo faith
strongly promoted Shiva, the god of destruction, and thus put a particular emphasis
on Armageddon, or the end of the world. Asahara claimed salvation from this
destruction for those who reached higher levels of consciousness by going through
him, the Supreme Master ; their reincarnated states would hold a special status
amongst others. Apparently, this Armageddon was going to involve a third world
war in 1997 that would be initiated between Japan and the United States; one
supposed goal of Aum Shinrikyo was their involved their salvation activities during
this time and the revival of the Japanese nation after the collapse of their country.
Members of Aum Shinrikyo were also very anti Semitic, and put part of the blame
for this onto the Jews (fas.org). Putting the skeptical claims of extrasensory
experiences aside for now, the beliefs of Aum Shinrikyo concerning the Bible,

Marketing Approach For Direct Marketing Essay
With the emergence in technology companies are going through dramatic
transformations and are now adopting a direct marketing approach. Direct marketing
is the ability to connect directly with targeted consumers on a one to one interactive
basis. It has also created many benefits for buyers and sellers. For buyers, direct
marketingoffers a wide selection of products that a store possibly could not hold all of
these items. Through technology customers can look at product descriptions, images,
customerfeedback, and ratings before actually buying the product. This has created a
system for a consumer that is convenient, easy, and private. Since online marketing is
the fastest growing form of direct marketing it has forced eBayto find success where
they know they can win. The internet has fundamentally changed customers notions
of convenience, speed, price, product description, and services (495). For sellers,
through direct marketing they can find out about customer s needs, personalized
products, and services to match their tastes (496). In turn, customers can ask
questions and volunteer feedback. It also offers sellers a low cost, efficient, and
speedy alternative to broaden their markets regionally and globally. Finally ongoing
adjustments to prices and programs create greater flexibility within the company. In
just this little period of time, direct marketing has become the primary approach and
constitutes a whole model for doing business. Worldwide there are 2 billion
Persuasive Essay On Guns On Campus
Guns are a huge aspect of the American culture; however, they have caused one of
the largest issues the United States faces, which is how to regulate them. Although
gun control and regulation is not a new topic the ability to carry a weapon on
campus is. The passing of a law to allow Texas students to carry concealed weapons
on campus has been a controversial social issue faced by the United States. Many
causes of school shootings are because someone disagrees with another person
views or beliefs. This is why the ability to carry concealed guns on campus should
be allowed. By allowing students to have the ability to protect themselves at all time
it gives them a greater sense of freedom.

When it comes to the amount that support stricter gun laws or less, it comes down to
essentially 50/50. According to a 2011 Gallup poll, 47 percent of American adults
keep at least one gun at home or on their property, and many of these gun owners
are absolutists opposed to any government regulation of firearms (Goldberg 70).
This is one of the reasons the United States cannot come to an agreement with the
issue of guns. As seen in the Gallup poll, Americans are distinctively divided on the
issue of guns so this is why not many policies are enacted. Even strong gun control
advocates have given up on the issue because they realize how divided the United
States is on the issue of guns. Dan Gross, the president of the Brady Campaign to
Prevent Gun Violence, gave a statement saying, I m happy to consider the debate on
the Second Amendment closed (Goldberg 71). Until the United States can come to
an agreement on gun reform, it seems that any gun control effort will not be
successful. Even though the issue being so controversial Texas has always been pro
guns and a way to prove that guns do more good than harm would be to allow
students to carry guns on college

Michel Foucault s Theory Of Discipline And Punishment
Michel Foucault states in Discipline and Punishment that the Panopticon is a
marvelous machine which, whatever use one may wish to put it to, produces
homogeneous effects of power (Foucault 188). Examining the evolution, physical
characteristics, and psychological effects of the Panopticon allows one to understand
the mechanism by which the Panopticonproduces power. Most inventions develop
through an evolutionary process while attempting to improve a situation or solve a
problem. Often, a prototype precedes a new structure or mechanism. Foucault uses
the term projects to describe two historical events and the social responses to resolve
the problems associated with these events. He suggests that the Panopticon developed
from these two projects, the quarantine of the plague and colonizing the lepers.
Foucault describes how the Panopticon developed from a seventeenth century order
issued to deal with the scourge of the plague. First, a strict spatial partitioning: the
closing of the town and its outlying districts was mandated (Foucault 181). The town
was further divided into quarters, streets, and households. A syndic who was in the
charge of an intendant supervised each family in their residence. A considerable body
of militia and guards at the gate ensured that the magistrate over the town had
absolute authority (Foucault 181). Only the syndics, intendants, and guards moved
about the streets (Foucault 181). They monitored and reported the
Systems Administration and Network Administration
Systems Administration and Network Administration Systems administration and
network administration are, in many respects, very similar jobs. Both positions are
highly involved in maintaining the computer systems in an organization, and, in
some smaller firms, the position may be handled by the same individual. However,
while there are significant similarities between systems administration and network
administration, there are differences in the roles as well. Basically speaking, system
administration focuses on computer systems and networks, while network
administration looks at maintenance and upkeep of the hardware and software that
composes the network (Entrance Exams 2012, 2012). Because there is obviously an
overlap between the two different job descriptions, it can be difficult to understand
why it is so important for information technology professionals to differentiate
between network and systems administration. However, when one understands the
different roles of the two different positions, it becomes clear that, why they might
overlap, and why a single individual might be able to handle the position in a small
organization, there are actually substantial differences between the two positions.
Particularly in a large organization, the two jobs may need to be handled by different
professionals with different skill sets. It is because of these different skill sets that the
industry has been so adamant about differentiating between systems and network
Refugees And Asylum Of Refugees
Hundreds of thousands of people every year are forced to leave their homes.
Refugees are defined as people who have to leave their homes in order to survive and
be safe. Natural disasters and the folly of man cause masses of people to flee their
native countries into neighboring territories to wait until it is safe to go back home
or to relocate for good. A refugeerefers to a person or people who, outside their
country of origin, are unable to save themselves from their country or are unable to
return there for fear of persecution (Jastram, 2001). What makes a refugee a
refugee? Who deserves refugee status? A common misconception is that refugees
and asylum seekers are the same things. The right to seek asylum was granted to
people by the 1951 Geneva Convention. The 1967 Protocol expanded the notion of
refugee displacement from just Europe to the rest of the world following World
War II (Wettergren, 2014. 566). The terms are very different. An Asylum Seeker is
defined as a person who has left their country and has applied for recognition as a
refugee in another country but is still waiting for the decision on their application
(Refugee 2011). When people are forced to leave their own countries and immigrant
to another one, they are considered asylum seekers until their requests for refugee
status has been accepted. After their application is accepted, they are officially
recognized as a refugee. The right to determine whether or not a person is a refugee

dramatic irony to tell the tale of an evil killer and his gullible victim. The story
begins by letting the reader know that Montresor has been wronged by someone he
knows, a man by the name of Fortunato. Poe s us of irony is recognized
immediately by naming the victim in this story Fortunato, this is Italian for the

the issues young adults face. Both series tied a connection and helped guide young
adolescents. It gave an idea of what society holds. In other words, these two series

society s norms aside and interact with one another. This idea helped formed my
identity and others in my generation. Media has given me the guide to build my
character. Media reflects on society s norms and values. The TV series and film battle

Analysis Of A Christmas Carol
In the 1999 theatrical version of A Christmas Carol we revisit a timeless classic

The movie in juxtaposition with the Dover Thrift Edition of A Christmas Carolis very

ultimate objective of telling a story of self realization and redemption. However,
there are some changes to the story that I feel make the movie more enjoyable than
the book.

1991, p. 2). The change came in the form of Patrick Stewart who portrays a bitter
miser, who is more polished than the book version, with a clean shaven head and
softer features. This change adds to the believability of the character when he turns
from bad to good at the end of

Paper On Flint Water Crisis Flint Water Crisis Chemistry is a branch of science that deals various compositions of matter which involves investigating properties that affect us directly, including our environment and our way of life. One of such issues is the public water contamination of Flint, Michigan. The state experienced a water crisis for almost two years continuously, which highly devastated the town since its main water source had been contaminated. There were increasing levels of lead in the city s drinking water (Broadsidedpress.org). The issue started in 2014 when the city of Flint changed its source of water from their original source, Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, where they received treated water, to the Flint River. Drinking water from Flint River had a series of problems, including lead and bacterial contamination, which led to serious health issues (Dixon). Flint River water was corrosive thus it caused lead from old pipes leach into the water supply and this caused very high levels of metal neurotoxins in the water. So many children have been exposed to the contaminated water leading to a series of health issues. The children have elevated blood lead levels and the number increased drastically from 2014 to 2015 (Dixon). The change in the water source also led to Legionnaire s disease breakdown that killed more than ten people while affecting another 77 in 2015. Due to this issue, many people and organizations stepped in to aid the city of Flint by providing them with bottled
  • 3. Analysis Of Friedman s Capitalism And Freedom Econ 160 Term Paper Part 1 As Milton Friedman once said, Freedom is a rare and delicate plant. Our minds tell us and history confirms that the great threat to freedom is the concentration of power. Government is necessary to preserve our freedom, it is an instrument through which we can exercise our freedom; yet by concentrating power and political hands, it is also a threat to freedom. Friedman s Capitalism and Freedom takes us into the mind of an economic genius and shows us his beliefs in a free market and the threat it presents to a dictatorship. Friedman, clearly a supporter of the free market, gives examples to show how a free market can aid a society in striving for success, becoming more dominant, and becoming more powerful. Though, at times he does show how a free market has disadvantages and he makes us aware as to how it can aid people in gaining individualism, knowledge, and overall improving a society. A free market is one that the price of a good or service is determined by supply and demand, in theory, rather than by government regulation. Milton s thoughts and theory is that through a robust free market with political freedom, economic freedom will follow. Showing how economic freedom is a crucial toward the success of political freedom, Friedman s theory of a free market and the Do Nothing Principle are major themes throughout his book. A dictatorship is a form of government ruled by a single party or a single party of dictators. In this form of

Analysis Of Percival Everitt s Monk By Yul Monk The line is, you re not black enough, Yul, Monk s literary agent, declares to Monk as he learns the latest of his novels is amongst a stack of rejections. This proclamation marks Monk s seventeenth rejection by publishing companies. The lead character and protagonist, Monk, also known as Thelonious Ellison, is an avant garde novelist and professor of English literature, much like his creator, author Percival Everitt, who published Erasure in 2001. Monk prides his literary writings of obscure papers and does not see them, nor any of his works, as works of color. He describes himself as a man of many different interests, and even tells the reader of the things he is not capable of doing, but allows the reader to take his inferences to come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gender profiling is another atrocity controlled by the hands of publication companies. Not to suggest the similarities between race and gender are identical, but to point out that injustices being handed out from the media are nothing new. For example, women in centuries past used pseudonyms to get their work published, such as Louisa May Alcott who penned her early writings under the name of A.M. Barnard, gaining notoriety first as a male writer before publishing works under her real name. Society and publishers have long held an ideology as to what material would be best suited for writers, according to society s impression of one s race and gender. The struggle still exists for writers today. For example, publishers thought it acceptable for author Scott Westerfeld to pen the Uglies series, whose main character is a fifteen year old girl, yet, the famous Harry Potter series author, J.K. Rowling was told it was not wise for a woman to be writing from the perspective of a young boy. Therefore, she was asked by her publisher to forego the usage of her first name and also to create a middle initial. Rowling also wanted to write crime novels, but to do so successfully, in the world of literary critics, she adopted the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith. After all, who would buy any other type of genre after the success Harry

  • 6. The Los Angeles Intervention Approach The Los Angeles intervention approach produces positive and negative attributes to combating gang related criminality. Gangs in society today, are problematic in many aspects. There are many different avenues city officials can take to combat or reduce gang related crime. Various methodologies have been used to take on this problem and have had successful results (Spergel,1986). The general idea is that if gang members will not respond to ordinary social agency programs, then the programs must move out to the streets in order to achieve change (Klein,1965, p3. 183). Law enforcement takes on a tremendous role in reducing crimeand ensuring public safety. Gang related crime is a prominent adversary for not only local communities, but our brave men and women. obviously they are having a tough time reducing gang s jurisdiction as seen in Chicago and other large cities. One of the many problems they face is going into the gang s battlefields where bullets are being fired and yet protect themselves also. As one of the interviewees in Scotts article said, it would take the police at least an hour to come to his neighborhood when firearms are being fired (Scott, 2004, p.119). Theoretically, it is impossible for law enforcement to stop individuals from committing gang related crime if they are not nearby to see what is taking place. Intervention of gang violence can not be law enforcement alone. The Los Angelescity sanctioned gang intervention workers initially produces

Bronze statuette of Aphrodite Date: late 2nd or 1st century B.C.Culture: Greece This statue of Aphrodite shows the dedication the Greeks had to their gods. The bronze goddess, holding her right arm in the air, gives off a powerful attitude. As the pose itself of the statue is not bland and more active, it gives the impression that this was created during the classical period of Greece when sculpture began having more relaxed, natural poses. The lack of more painstaking muscle and bone structure probably places it in the earlier part of the classical period though. What is most intriguing about the sculpture is the white eyes she is given that, in the face of a more natural, realistic human form, the eyes seem to retain an essence ... Limestone grave relief with two sphinxes Date: late 5th century B.C.Culture: Greece The sphinxes were popular mythical creatures, playing their part in myths and legends and stories throughout time including the story of Oedipus, and the riddle of the sphinx. Furthermore, Proust s madeleine experience initiated for him a whole chain of association, and from this he achieved the eventual restoration of an entire vanished world. While voluntary memory can help develop an informal timeline of events along with major details such as location, involuntary memoryfills in the gaps to a greater extent or even uncovers a different timeline while restoring feelings and senses connected to the recollection. This type of memory is simulated by something as simple as a pastry, or in Edmund Wilson s case, a window. In An Old Stone House , Wilson uses voluntary memory to recollect the history and major details of his childhood home. Furthermore, his journey back to this childhood home is what triggers his involuntary memory. Sitting on a train to Talcottville, Wilson narrates, As I go north for the first time in years... I look out through the dirt yellowed double pane and remember how once, as a child, I had felt thwarted till I had gotten the windows up so that there should be nothing between me and the widening pastures. Suddenly, when submersed in a familiar setting, Wilson remembers how he felt as a boy on the same train. The window reveals to Wilson exactly how he felt decades ago, thus restoring a series of memories essential to further recollecting his youth in upstate New York and writing his memoir. For Proust it was a pastry, Wilson

As his perception of people is the complete opposite to Yonatan s, he naturally assumes everyone has illВintentions, and figures that no one would say or do anything to him without a ulterior motive. This is the very definition of a paranoid person. An example of this is in the very first sentence he comes in contact with Yonatan. he assumes he is a homosexual because he has a earring, he is searching for any explanations as to why someone would want to speak to him. 4 paragraphs later Sergei has come to the conclusion that Yonatan s motive is to steal his goldfish, he feeds his paranoiawith this idea. • 21. Substance Use Of Substance Use Disorder Substance use may be viewed as recreational to some, however to others, it is the beginning of the road to an addiction. According to the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: DSM V (2013), a diagnosis of substance use disorder is based on evidence of impaired control, social impairment, risky use, and pharmacological criteria. Substance use disorders occur when recurring drug use, including alcohol, causes clinically and functionally significant damage, such as health problems, disability, and failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home. These criteria are nearly identical to that of addiction, which is a reason they are used interchangeably. In the last decade, substance use, particularly illicit drug use, has been increasing ( DrugFacts: Nationwide trends | National Institute on Drug Abuse , 2014). Is this due to the high stress society in which we live, or an individual s predisposition to addiction? In all likelihood it is a combination of both, as well as emotionregulation, a process which allows for the evaluation, monitoring, and modifying of emotional reactions to accomplish goals. This paper will address the possible role of emotion regulation on substance use disorders and the research behind it. Jeff Jacoby s Bring Back Flogging Essay Jeff Jacoby s Bring Back Flogging This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm otherwise known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast between what is said and what is meant. Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging should be brought back to replace the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of violent and non violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial mention of the Puritan punishment system. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and branded for selling guns and weapons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jacoby s argument of flogging attempts to show how it can be more productive over the conventional method of punishment seemingly the only way, imprisonment. His beliefs are that public whippings will prevent youths and first time offenders from becoming lifelong felons. The benefits deduced from his argument for flogging assuming it proves to be conclusive would be such. Lowering the rate of felons in jail, freeing up space for the more violent offenders. The appalling estimated amount of thirty thousand a year per inmate would be saved. A public whipping would not be associated with respect and sign of manhood or status symbol that prison serves for many offenders. Flogging he believes would deter many of the first time offenders and youth along with preventing them from being repeat and long time offenders. The pain, scars, and embarrassment of public whippings would far exceed the value or risk reward benefit of doing a petty crime thus forcing people to think about their actions before they did it. Jacoby contends that he is unsure whether being whipped is more degrading that being caged. • 25. Holy Spirit Analysis I attended an Assembly of God church service. I have gone to many Christian church services before, as I grew up Methodist and have also attended Baptist services, but the service I attended was slightly different because it was Pentecostal. They are also Evangelical. I learned that they believe in biblical infallibility, meaning they believe that anything that the Bible says regarding Christianityand faith is true and there cannot be any errors in the text. One characteristic of Evangelicalism is crucicentrism, which is the attention that they give to the atonement of Christ that offers forgiveness of all sins and freedom from guilt. They also consider activism very important, meaning they share the gospel with others in a variety of ways.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were some similarities to other services I have been to, but also quite a few differences. In class we mainly learned about the big Christian denominations: Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant. However, there are tons of branches of Christianity such as Methodist, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran, etc. Going through each branch could really be a course in itself, considering how many there are. Because we did not have the time to learn about all of the differences of each branch, it was fascinating to attend a service in which I could learn more about one particular branch of Christianity. I learned a lot about what Pentecostals value most just by listening to the service. It was obvious that they consider baptisms to be extremely important in your commitment to God. Prayer and music are major forms of worship in Pentecostal services. They also serve others both in and outside of the church, and work to spread the word of God in the community. Throughout the service, they made multiple references to the Holy Trinity, one being of three

Taking advantage of available research, along with discussion of the Harm Principle, this essay will argue that non therapeutic use of cannabis in New Zealand should not be prohibited. John Stuart Mill s Harm Principle is the idea that, The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. 1 In other words, the state or society at large may only interfere in an individual s life if that individual s actions pose a large enough harm to others.. ... Weak paternalism concerns the intervention in individuals lives who do not meet the requirements to be considered autonomous or competent. In essence, the Harm Principle and weak paternalism are aimed at two different parts of society. In New Zealand, the government is currently interfering in its citizen s lives by prohibiting the recreational use of cannabis. This interference largely affects mature and rational decision makers. In this case the Harm Principle does apply. We need to ask, what is the alleged/predicted harm from the recreational use of cannabis? Is it probable or certain and is there any physiological and or psychological
  • 27. The United States Attack on Irak in 2003 The United States attacked Iraq on March 19, 2003. The question of whether this action is a case of justified anticipatory self defense or not is answered by clearly understanding the definition of anticipatory self defense . Anticipatory self defense basically says that if you have a good reason to believe that someone is going to harm you in a particular way, you can act first. The proper definition would have two conditions; There is clear and convincing evidence that the proposed target has the ability to strike a devastating blow and There is clear and convincing evidence that the proposed target has the inclination to strike a devastating blow . That being said, the decision to go to war with Iraqwas a decision based upon dishonesty and a one sided perspective. Therefore, U.S does not qualify to call it a case of justified anticipatory self defense so; it was not a last resort as it had other less violent options. There are several reasons as to why I believe it was a very weak case. Firstly, U.S made mistakes that led to inaccurate conclusions that Iraq obtained weapons of mass destruction. These mistakes were not honest mistakes but rather an intentional manipulation by the government. The primary reason to invade Iraq was to get rid of Saddam Hussein, who is believed (by U.S officials) to pose future threats to the U.S as he obtains WMD. However, the UN under Hans Blix who had access to all the government buildings had a team working in the grounds of Iraq

Transgender Bathroom Debate A man stands in front of two bathroom signs, contemplating door which to enter: use the bathroom of the gender to which he does not identify, (consequently feeling safer) or use the bathroom for the gender he identifies as but risk getting kicked out or even assaulted? Fearing the repercussions the man enters the toilet labelled male, praying the stalls are empty. This is an example of what a transgenderindividual undergoes every day, just to accomplish something most people take for granted. The Oxford English dictionary defines transgender as: Denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and genderdoes not correspond with their birth sex. Inversely, a cis gender individual s gender identityand birth sex do correspond. The bathroom debate is just one small part of what transgender people go through: transgender people have to fight for authenticity as well as equality. An average young person might have ID when buying alcohol or their passport checked at the airport. However trans people s true gender identity is questioned very often, and in a very different way. Caused by environmental influences or inheritance, a birth defect is a biochemical or physical abnormality present at birth. Around 4,000 birth defects have been discovered throughout the years and each year 1 out of 33 babies are born with a defect ( Gupta ). What mothers do while pregnant can be a major factor that causes a birth defect. The most common causes of birth defects include smoking, alcohol use, and recreational drug use while pregnant. Smoking during pregnancy is one of the most common causes of birth defects in babies. If a mother is smoking during her pregnancy the fetus is also experiencing the effects smoking can cause. On average twenty percent of women smoke during their pregnancies causing 1,000 baby deaths each year in the United States ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). Smoking during pregnancy accounts for thirty percent of babies born underweight, fourteen percent of premature labors, and ten percent of all infant deaths ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). The placenta connects from the uterus to the developing fetus, giving the baby the nutrients and oxygen it needs to grow. When a mother inhales the poisonous gases from the cigarette, they travel into the mother s blood stream and through the placenta into the fetus. While this

It was found that the correlation is strong at a .75 because it s a direct relationship. For instance when someone has a higher IQ they are more likely going to have a higher GPA. However although the correlation shows a higher IQ means higher GPA does not meanthat is the only reason the GPA is rising, it could be because they hired a tutor, have been studying more or are maybe just in more interesting classes. In correlation studies they show that there is a relationship between two different variables however it is not evidence or proof in any way. The reason it isn t proof is because it has not been proven that they are directly the reason for the relationship however that they do have common results. Some of the reasons correlation cannot prove anything is because of the limitations; these would be the lack of information about the correlation, sample size or the standard deviation. In our text it states If the word correlation is broken down co relation it is expresses what is meant: The characteristics are related and the evidence for the relationship is that they vary together, or co vary. This is one of the reasons the United States cannot come to an agreement with the issue of guns. As seen in the Gallup poll, Americans are distinctively divided on the issue of guns so this is why not many policies are enacted. Even strong gun control advocates have given up on the issue because they realize how divided the United States is on the issue of guns. Dan Gross, the president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, gave a statement saying, I m happy to consider the debate on the Second Amendment closed (Goldberg 71). Michel Foucault s Theory Of Discipline And Punishment Michel Foucault states in Discipline and Punishment that the Panopticon is a marvelous machine which, whatever use one may wish to put it to, produces homogeneous effects of power (Foucault 188). Examining the evolution, physical characteristics, and psychological effects of the Panopticon allows one to understand the mechanism by which the Panopticonproduces power. Most inventions develop through an evolutionary process while attempting to improve a situation or solve a problem. Often, a prototype precedes a new structure or mechanism. Foucault uses the term projects to describe two historical events and the social responses to resolve the problems associated with these events. He suggests that the Panopticon developed from these two projects, the quarantine of the plague and colonizing the lepers. Foucault describes how the Panopticon developed from a seventeenth century order issued to deal with the scourge of the plague. First, a strict spatial partitioning: the closing of the town and its outlying districts was mandated (Foucault 181). The town was further divided into quarters, streets, and households. A syndic who was in the charge of an intendant supervised each family in their residence. A considerable body of militia and guards at the gate ensured that the magistrate over the town had absolute authority (Foucault 181). Only the syndics, intendants, and guards moved about the streets (Foucault 181). They monitored and reported the

Both positions are highly involved in maintaining the computer systems in an organization, and, in some smaller firms, the position may be handled by the same individual. Basically speaking, system administration focuses on computer systems and networks, while network administration looks at maintenance and upkeep of the hardware and software that composes the network (Entrance Exams 2012, 2012). Because there is obviously an overlap between the two different job descriptions, it can be difficult to understand why it is so important for information technology professionals to differentiate between network and systems administration. However, when one understands the different roles of the two different positions, it becomes clear that, why they might overlap, and why a single individual might be able to handle the position in a small organization, there are actually substantial differences between the two positions. Particularly in a large organization, the two jobs may need to be handled by different professionals with different skill sets. It is because of these different skill sets that the industry has been so adamant about differentiating between systems and network

Refugees are defined as people who have to leave their homes in order to survive and be safe. Natural disasters and the folly of man cause masses of people to flee their native countries into neighboring territories to wait until it is safe to go back home or to relocate for good. A refugeerefers to a person or people who, outside their country of origin, are unable to save themselves from their country or are unable to return there for fear of persecution (Jastram, 2001). What makes a refugee a refugee? Who deserves refugee status? A common misconception is that refugees and asylum seekers are the same things. The right to seek asylum was granted to people by the 1951 Geneva Convention. The 1967 Protocol expanded the notion of refugee displacement from just Europe to the rest of the world following World War II (Wettergren, 2014. 566). The terms are very different. An Asylum Seeker is defined as a person who has left their country and has applied for recognition as a refugee in another country but is still waiting for the decision on their application (Refugee 2011). When people are forced to leave their own countries and immigrant to another one, they are considered asylum seekers until their requests for refugee status has been accepted. The bitter and cold hearted Scrooge despises Christmasand all those who embrace it, until one fated night, when his deceased business partner pays him a visit and sets him on a journey that will change his life he knows it. The movie in juxtaposition with the Dover Thrift Edition of A Christmas Carolis very similar. The general beats of the book are represented in the movie as well it s ultimate objective of telling a story of self realization and redemption. However, there are some changes to the story that I feel make the movie more enjoyable than the book. One thing I feel the movie nailed over the book is the change of Ebenezer Scrooge appearance. The book describes Scrooge as The cold within him froze his old features, nipped hi pointed nose, shriveled his cheek, stiffened his gait: made his eyes red, his thin lips blue; and spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice (Dickens, 1991, p. 2). The change came in the form of Patrick Stewart who portrays a bitter miser, who is more polished than the book version, with a clean shaven head and softer features. This change adds to the believability of the character when he turns from bad to good at the end of
