College Education Is No Longer Valuable
Many people believe that getting a college education is no longer valuable. They believe that with the
internet at their fingertips there is no need for a college education, but college education provides
more than just information for their students. College is about independence and learning how to take
charge of his or her life. It is an opportunity for students to learn about their future career. Students
learn about intriguing subjects, how to make lifelong friends, and how to spend valuable time with
people outside of his or her social circle. Students have the rest of their lives to go to work every day,
but college gives them a chance to make connections, build networks, and get to know new people
who have a different life experiences. Many people believe that the time and cost of a college
education no longer outweighs the benefits; however, acquiring a college degree gives students an
opportunity to find their dream job and to earn more money in the future. Before entering the
workplace, students should take advantage of the opportunities that acquiring a college degree will
provide. One opportunity is that college allows students to learn what career they like and dislike
before they enter the labor force. College is a time to explore a major that will continue to appeal to
the student throughout his or her life. Many students are unsure of their career path after graduating
from high school. College provides students with a stepping stone to experience

Benefits Of Genetically Modified Foods
Autumn Gwinn UPLOAD TO TURNITIN!!!!!! English 4 Pd. 3 27 April 2015 Research Paper
Genetically Modifying Foods Genetic engineering is a relatively new thing in early stages of
development (Cummins 1). Genetically engineering something is done by altering or disrupting the
genetic makeup. Some examples are microorganisms, plants, fish, trees, humans, and other animals
(Cummins 1). Gene engineers move, get rid of, and add genetic material to something. There is even
human genes and animal genes added to the DNA of other animals and plants, creating unimaginable
life forms (Cummins 1). The products that are genetically modified currently are soybeans and soy oil,
corn, potatoes, squash, canola oil, cottonseed oil, papaya, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a synthetic pesticide called DDT was produced in..?. It turned out to harm animals. It
built up and stayed in fish, and it thinned the shells of birds that ate the fish. The most common birds
were the bald eagles and ospreys. Another development was chlorofluorocarbons that were used in
refrigerants, propellants, and the cleaning solvents. It turned out that they went up into the atmosphere
and destroyed the ozone that protects humans from the sun s radiation. The use of these developments
were reduced significantly and DDT was banned (Union of Concerned Scientists 1). For the first time
in the world, scientists are now the creators of new life (Cummins 1). This is a bad thing. Genetically
modified foods are threatening to human health, animals, and the environment. Thesis First,
genetically modified foods are threatening to human health. The biotech industry says that the Food
and Drug Administration (FDA) states that genetically modified foods are safe for humans to
consume. This is not true. Documents from the FDA released by a lawsuit stated that genetically
modified foods are not really safe. They can cause all kinds of health issues. These documents also
revealed that scientists tried to tell the FDA that they are not safe, but the FDA did not listen. Calgene
developed the first genetically modified crop. They developed the FlavrSavr tomato and they had
research to go along with it. Their data showed that lab rats had to be force fed.

Emergency Responders Face The Difficult Task Of Ensuring...
Emergency responders face the difficult task of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the citizens they
serve. Natural and man made disasters augment the daily threats that responders face. The threat of
disaster poses an especially large risk due to their massive sizes and therefore, additional susceptibility
to hazards. The Kansas City government created an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) to combat the
most likely dangers they are likely to face based off of their Threats, Hazards Identification Risk
Assessment (THIRA). Kansas City is a major metropolitan city that straddles the border between the
states of Missouri and Kansas. The city is situated along the Missouri River and boasts a population of

The large population size and business investments presents a personnel and financial hazard to the
city. Kansas City is a major transportation and economic hub that is responsible for millions of tons of
cargo passing in and out annually worth trillions. The city is in the heart of the Midwest and is
vulnerable to tornadoes and snow storms. Man made disasters are also a constant hazard due to the
sports teams that attract tens of thousands of visitors. The Kansas City government identifies possible
risks and hazards they face by conducting a THIRA. The last publicly available THIRA was from the
year 2012 and was conducted by the Mid America Regional Council on Homeland Security. The
THIRA: lists a total of eight natural and man made disasters that the city believes is possible,
identifies goals and objectives in combating these threats, and indicates timelines for completing the
goals. The eight scenarios listed are: tornado, severe winter weather, HAZMAT release, IED/armed
terrorist attack, cybersecurity, emerging infectious disease, anthrax, and waterway bridges (KC, p. 1).
The commonality shared between the disasters that the city has identified is that they could potentially
affect a large percentage of the population. Consequently, they will require a joint response effort from
multiple agencies and possibly from multiple jurisdictions as well. The THIRA

Homosexuality In The Hairdresser Of Harare By Tendai Huchu
Those being oppressed by their government must find a way to keep a sense of themselves and their
beliefs despite others attempts to change them. In the Hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu,
Dumisani is a gay man in a country that heavily discriminates against homosexuality. Dumi is under
constant threat of having his sexuality discovered and being punished by torture or imprisonment.
Despite this fear, he is able to overcome the disdain his society holds in order to embrace who he truly
is, You see for a long time I used to think of my gayness as a cancer for which I needed treatment.
Then I met Colin and he told me how wrong I was. Now I realize it is simply something I was born
with (438.) Dumi s ability to thrive in the face of adversity allows him to be himself and overcome the
limits imposed on him by the Zimbabwean government. He embraces his identity and form
friendships and romantic relationships with people who understand him. He stays in the country that is
attempting to reject him in order to be with his lover, family, and friends. He understands the threat he
faces, but it does not prevent him being with the man he loves or coming out to his family. In this way,
the LGBT community and other people whose lifestyles or beliefs conflict with their society s ideals
persist through the judgment of others simply by being themselves unashamedly. When in a position

Essay on The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The piano has been inextricably linked with the roles and expectations of women in British society
since its advent in the mid 1700s to the late 1800s when rising standards of living made it more
accessible to middle class society. Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction 1 and a
wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2 Pianos were
instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction thus perpetuating
the class system. 3
While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The Piano
expressed through the relationship with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the
longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a
supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this moment.
Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an obvious
symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The Piano. Men of
both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump unmusically on it when
it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame as Flora plays for him. Baines
acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the piano. The physicality of the piano
and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines
who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for parts of her body he is given permission to touch and
see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing
on the A key Ada loves George ; and when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines
in person, she removes a key (G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart.

However, human meanings and concerns are difficult to be formalised. Consequently, nursing
theorists have considered other legitimate ways of knowing.5 Carper s paper on patterns of knowing
was a landmark in the nursing literature which extended in a new perspective our understanding of
types of knowledge and theory needed in a practice oriented discipline such as nursing.6 Her work
was published in a time that nursing was struggling to obtain a consensus of identity with a unique
body of knowledge.7 Nursing was very much influenced by scientism which holds the positivistic
view that the only reality is the one which can be empirically verified.6 Carper, stated that the only
valid and reliable knowledge of that time in nursing was empirical, factual, objectively descriptive,
and generizable .4 However, in addition to empirical knowledge, Carper identified ethics aesthetics,
and personal knowing. She suggested that these patterns are all necessary, interrelated, interdependent
and overlapping, and create the whole of knowing. Carper s work counted upon the assumption that
the patterns and structure of nursing knowledge provide the unique perspectives of the discipline.
However, Boykin et al reject this thesis, proposing that is the conception of nursing which provides
the structure of nursing knowledge rather than the patterns of knowing.7 In addition, they comment on
her failure to distinguish between

It launched for the first time on mission STS 1 on April 12, 1981, the first flight of the Space Shuttle
program. Over 22 years of service it completed 27 missions before disintegrating during re entry near
the end of its 28th mission, STS 107 on February 1, 2003, resulting in the deaths of all seven crew

The Lifestyle change Program
The Program
Prior to commencing the Lifestyle Change Program the client must be educated in areas of her
lifestyle, which will be addressed over the course of the 4 week program. The initial assessment
highlights areas of weakness in the client; results indicate that the client currently falls below average
in some physical aspects when compared to normative values of her age category. Areas that will be
specifically targeted in the program include aerobic fitness and strength, dietary intake requirements
and lifestyle changes.
The client must be educated on the concept and the benefits associated with increasing aerobic
capacity and also increasing muscle strength, not only of the upper body but all major muscle groups.
In addition to educating the client on the benefits of increasing physical activity the client must be
made aware of the consequences associated with sedentary behavior and thus the emphasis of lifestyle
changes must be made. Dietary intake is another major area of the client s lifestyle that must be
addressed for the client s educational purposes. By educating the client in areas that will be addressed
this will aid the client in accepting the idea that areas in her lifestyle must be altered to enhance her
quality of life. Not only will education paired with alterations to the client s lifestyle enhance the
client s quality of life, it will also increase the chances and likelihood of her committing to the
program in the long term and post program.

Daytona Beach Dinner Time! On the very hot and humid day of June 20th, I was at my condo on
Daytona Beach. The waves were crashing onto the shore, leaving thousands of seashells behind. When
a cool breeze from the south blew, it shook the palm trees, in which my hammock was hung. I was

outside. I ran to my door and opened it, and there was Albert Einstein on the ground. Around him in a
circle, stood George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Justin Bieber. They looked worried, so I ran over
to see what happened. Albert was lying unresponsive in the sand. I asked, What in the world happened

The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis
The Five People You Meet In Heaven
The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named
Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from
the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell
him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important
symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper
meaning of the story.
The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings.
When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pier was named after, she told Eddie the story of how the
pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He
...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got
married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a
firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier
and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason
the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led
to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing
his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came
home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier,
and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the
water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s
father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to
serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new
beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier:
greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie

Observation Paper On Child Development
Observation Paper A unique opportunity was presented to me as I prepared to complete the
observation or interview paper for HDFS 225. We have close friends who have a fourteen year old son
with Down syndrome and I was given permission to spend time with Jason (not his real name) over a
weekend and this enabled me to observe an adolescent male who happens to be a special needs child.
The adolescent period of human development interests me since this stage in life presents significant
changes and is considered to be some of the most critical and challenging years in human
development. The addition of the documented special need made the opportunity very intriguing and I
thought it created an excellent learning opportunity. Not only would I be digging into the development
of a 14 year old, I would also be gaining knowledge about the impact or effects of Down syndrome on
development. Jason is 14 years old, short but heavy set for his age and height. He is typically in a very
good mood and happy to have a friend to spend time with and this day as I visited him at his home
was no different. Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder which occurs in 1 out of every 800 live
births ((T. Crandell, C. Crandell Vander Zanden, 2012, p.81). Most Down patients have a condition
called trisomy 21, or 3 copies of the 21st chromosome. This results in an individual with 47 total
chromosomes instead of 46 that are normal (Crandell et al., 2012, p.81). This extra chromosome alters

Napoleon as the Betrayer to the French Revolution Essay...
Napoleon as the Betrayer to the French Revolution
Napoleon Bonaparte has remained one of history s most furiously debated characters. This is because
there has been much speculation and many differing interpretations of his actions as leader of France
from 1799 1815. Most historians tend to have been torn between the portraits of Napoleon as the heir
of the Revolution or as the destroyer of the Revolution s most sacred principles. However, a third
opinion has emerged that suggests that Napoleon made revolutionary ideas practical and therefore
acted as a bridge between the Ancien Regime and the lofty ideals of the Revolution.

Napoleon realised that religion was of great importance to the people of France. He managed to agree
to a Concordat between France and the Pope that recognised Roman Catholicism as France s principle
religion and sees the Pope as the head of the Roman Catholic Church. However, Napoleon managed to
introduce further terms that effectively made France in charge of religion.
The view that supports Napoleon as the defender of the Revolution is Napoleon himself! Emmanuel
de Las Cases, who accompanied Napoleon into exile on St. Helena, was the author of Napoleon s
main biography, The Legend of Napoleon . In his writings, Napoleon became the founder of the
Revolution and the protagonist of its achievements. He preserved the principles of liberty and equality,
confirmed the destruction of feudalism, united the fractions within France and propagated the
principles of the Revolution abroad. In the 1830s and 1840s, the Napoleonic Legend arose in France.
People in France yearned for the excitement and adventure of Napoleon and his legend provided this.
Napoleon actually himself believed that he was the heir to the Revolution and that he made the
principles work for France.
However, many historians view Napoleon differently. They see his reforms for France as increasingly
autocratic. They perceive that the Legend glorified Napoleon

Argumentative Essay On Blood Tests
Published in the Journal of Neurotrauma on July 10, a new blood test may soon help emergency room
doctors to diagnose a traumatic brain injury and its severity with greater speed. What benefits may
arise from this new practice? First, it could locate patients who will benefit from experimental
treatment and extra therapy. Frederick Korley, from John Hopkins University School of Medicine,
said that compared to measuring other proteins related to traumatic brain injury, BDNF predicts the
outcome with greater accuracy.

What is the advantage of predicting the outcome of TBI? Doctors can advise patients early, and they
can recommend whether or not they need to take time off work. In addition, they can decide if the
person will need followup treatment with a neurologist.
This is extraordinarily important considering that TBI is a lead cause of disability and death within the
United States. With blood tests accurately identifying if a patient has suffered from TBI, they can
reduce the amount of unnecessary CT scans by about 30 percent. We have seen a need for an accurate
and faster screening tool. Coupled with a CT scan, it becomes much easier to detect when things have
gone amiss. While 16 European countries regularly use blood tests as an accepted standard for testing
for TBI, the United States still only uses the CT scan.
What do doctors test for? In previous studies, researchers discovered that the protein known as S 100B
serum increased rapidly after brain injuries. Medical practitioners plan to test the blood within four
hours of an injury to predict if a patient will suffer from hemorrhaging or skull fractures. While it does
take 20 minutes to learn of the results, it could spare numerous patients the need for unnecessary
exposure to

866). Their rationality is based on the fact that democracy empowers the masses that are able to use
this power to fight back and prevent their government from abusing their human rights. Democracy
also makes it easier for citizens to report instances of state repression to the international community,
thus forcing abusive leaders to either stop the abuses or to renounce their power (Poe Tate, 1994, p.
855 866). In a semi democratic country like Russia, this empowerment of the masses has less strength
to significantly prevent state repression, and sometimes the ability to shed light on abuses is difficult
since mass media is practically controlled by the abusive government. Similarly, Davenport (1995)
argues that democratic governments are less likely to use repression when dealing with mass
demonstrations because their nature is to allow expressions of freedom by the citizenry, which they
are aware always comes with a level of domestic disorder. This awareness decreases the use of
violence against the citizens (p. 690 691). Since Russia is a semi democratic state, government respect
and awareness of citizens freedom in not yet well developed, so the government continues to react
violently and to use repression when dealing with mass demonstrations, as it was the nature of the pre
existing socialist government.

Over the last decade or so we have seen our country fail our Veterans on so many different levels. The
U.S. Governments treatment of our Veterans has come under fire because so many of our Veterans are

me it is a lack of ethics. Menzel defines Ethics as values and principles that guide right and wrong
behavior. When we look at the landscape of our Government beginning with the Executive office we

Walter Payon Quotes
Walter Payton once said If you ask me how I want to be remembered, it is as a winner. You know what
a winner is? A winner is somebody who has given his best effort, who has tried the hardest they
possibly can, who has utilized every ounce of energy and strength within them to accomplish
something. It doesn t mean that they accomplished it or failed, it means that they ve given it their best.
That s a winner. This meaningful quote suggests that being a winner doesn t necessarily mean that you
have to win every single game or award; all you have to do to be a winner is show that you put effort
and that you actually tried to win. This quote was very relevant to Walter Payton according to Don
Yaegar, the author of Walter Payton s autobiography ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walter Payton was a very important figure in football history because not only did he fight through his
hard times in high school and college but he also remained same and sympathetic through his football
career. He taught all of us that not everything is about winning; instead, you put all of your strength
and faith into something that you love. Born on July 25, 1954 in a small town of Columbia,
Mississippi; Walter was brought into this world by Peter and Alyne Payton to change football history
in a tremendous way. Peter and Alyne were loving and hardworking parents; in fact, they sacrificed
their jobs so that Walter and his siblings wouldn t remain alone. The Payton s weren t wealthy and rich
but according to Walter, that made him appreciate life more as a kid. As a child, Walter was alwasy
sympathetic although he really didn t get involved into sports until the first year of high school. He
had two other siblings, Eddie and Pam Payton, whom he shared many memories with mostly
outdoors; Walter admired his brother s athletic capacity and decided he would become involved in the

Summer Employment Research Paper
My senior year of high school was quickly coming to an end, and I found myself looking for a job for
the summer. College cost go up every year and I knew that if I wanted extra spending money, I would
have to contribute. Summer employment is a great way to earn extra money plus, I am a person who
likes to stay busy, and I realized having a job during break would help accomplish both. Having
played multiple sports in high school, I was always doing something throughout my day and I knew I
couldn t have a job like lifeguarding where you have to sit and watch a pool for hours. I enjoy always

A Study On Radarsat 1
RADARSAT 1 was a satellite launched by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in 1995 that
incorporated a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor operating in the C band (frequency of 5.3 GHz).
RADARSAT 1 stopped transmitting because of a technical problem in March 2013. The RADARSAT
1 images were ordered from the Alaska Satellite Facility website (www.asf.alaska.edu). The
RADARSAT satellite was designed with seven SAR imaging beam modes. Each beam mode offers a
different areal coverage (from ~50 km x 50 km/scene to ~500 km x 500 km/scene) and resolution
(from 8 m to 100 m). The RADARSAT instrument also offers a range of incidence angles from 10°
59° allowing us to choose from a selection of beam positions within each beam mode. RADARSAT 1

RADARSAT 1 was also implemented to provide data products for commercial applications such as
shipping, oil exploration, offshore oil drilling, and resource management. RADARSAT 1 has been
used to collect substantial and significant science data sets of Antarctica and Arctic sea ice. For this
study the Standard Mode was used and the SAR images have a swath width of 100km and a spatial
resolution of about 25 30 m. For this research, images were selected in beam modes 1, 2, 3, and 5
(where the S denotes Standard Mode ), that provided lower incident angles between 20 42o in
descending mode.
For this research, nine RADARSAT 1 SAR images were acquired over the Ward Farm SCAN region
during summer period of 2007 while twenty one RADARSAT 1 SAR images were acquired over the
Nenana SCAN region during summer period of 2006. The choice for chosen the RADARSAT 1
images was due to availability of the in situ liquid water content, which allowed us to calibrate and
validate using the EA IEM algorithm. Table 1 shows the main characteristics of the RADARSAT 1
SAR images used in this study.
B. MEASURED LIQUID WATER CONTENT OBSERVATIONS
In situ liquid water content observations are necessary to investigate both active microwave remotely
sensed and modelled liquid water content. The in situ liquid water content measurements that were

Frank Gehry Essay
Frank Gehry
Quote
When everybody else is ready for the ending, I m just ready to begin, Frank Gehry once wrote. It s
been the story of my life (qtd. in Templer, 1999, pp.1) Laying the Foundation
Born on 28 February 1929 in Toronto, Canada, Frank O. Goldberg entered a household with a strong
Polish and Jewish heritage. Twenty years earlier, Thelma Caplanski left Poland with her parents, a
couple with deep religious morals. Once they settled in Toronto, the two decided to change their last
name to Caplan. The owner of a hardware store, her father was also the president of a synagogue. His
wife, Frank s grandmother, was said to have good visual abilities. Thelma would continue working

The Goldberg family relocated to Timmins, Ontario during Frank s adolescent years. Unfortunately,
during these times, Frank saw how mean kids can be as he was given the nickname Fish . People did
not accept his religion, Judaism, and the nickname was supposed to put him down but Frank would
later use that as a basis for his some of his creations. During this time, he explored atheism because of
these difficulties (Hines, 1986).
Finding and Designing Love
After Frank s father grew sick, the Goldberg family moved to Los Angeles where some of the family
already resided. Ironically, they lived in an apartment that was close to where the Loyola Law School
would be built in later years, according to Frank s blueprints. At this time, the family was struggling
for money and Frank had to find a job. He worked as a delivery truck man who installed breakfast
nooks. It was through this job that Frank would meet Anita Snyder, a woman who he married later in
1952. Two years later, with the permission of his family, Frank decided to change their last name to
Gehry. The couple had two daughters and the three followed Gehry to an army base in Georgia (Hines,
1986) and then to Paris (Hines, 1986; Templer, 1999). Eventually, got divorced in 1966. Frank s
relationship problems are similar to those that Gardner refers to in his geniuses lives (Hines, 1986).
Yet, Frank got remarried ten years later to Berta Isabel

Language, Subsistence Practices, Kinship And Descent,...
In this paper I will be discussing in depth the Maori people. I will include a short background and a
quick summary of history and then describe a few aspects of their culture including: language,
subsistence practices, kinship and descent, marriage and household, beliefs and worship, and a unique
cultural practice.
The Maori, culturally Polynesians, are the indigenous inhabitants of New Zealand. The people who
call themselves the Maori are originally from the Polynesian islands and settled in New Zealand
around the 13th century. The tribes of the Maori did not identify themselves by a collective name until
European settlers arrived and then the use of the name Maori, which means ordinary came into use.
The Maori today make up about 15% (565,329 people) of New Zealand s population with the majority
living in urban area, while there are still few who live in the ancestral tribal areas. Many also live
overseas with 70,000 in Australia and 10,000 in England.
Around 1300 AD, a great migration of people set sail for what is now New Zealand. These people
came in seven very large canoes called Waka which were built to withstand rough seas and carry many
people including all of their possessions over long journeys. The present day Maori people can trace
their origins to the various Waka. The settlers from each Waka separated into tribes called iwi . As
time went on and population grew, the people spread out through the land and created a social
structure with iwi (tribes), hapu

Explain The Three Categories Of Leadership Northhouse
Northhouse (2015p. 123) has identified three categories of leadership including administration skills,
interpersonal skills, and conceptual skills. The ability to be an effective supervisor is dependent on one
s ability to utilize both the relational and interpersonal skills. The supervisor s role in the Phoenix
House is multidimensional and requires both managerial and leadership skills to be successful. The
senior social worker manages the work of four social employees and two interns from the university
and implements weekly staff meetings as the primary form of communication. Within these meetings,
the concerns and procedures are being addressed, by the social worker. According to Northhouse

Definition Of Family In Secondhand Lions
Family in a conventional context is seen as mothers and fathers providing for their children, both
mentally and economically. In Secondhand Lions, Walter s mother does not provide in an economic or
mental way and he is forced to live a life without the feeling of genuine love. When Walter s mother
realizes her uncles are rich she sends Walter to them in hopes he will find their money. Walter does not
want to go there at first but as his experiences with his uncles progress, and they teach him what it
means to be a man, he realizes they are his true family and he would rather be with them than his
mother.
The word family is derived from the Latin form, Familia. The conventional definition of family is a
group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Familia in its traditional
definition means servants of a household. Family is generally related to the Holy Family. The Holy
Family consists of baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph. Family is also seen in many great
works of literature throughout history. Including, Oedipus by Sophocles. In Oedipus, he is prophesized
to kill his father and marry and produce kids with his mother. This Greek tragedy shows the twisted
forms of family that is possible and has been focused on by psychiatrists like Sigmund Freud.
Secondhand Lions begins with Walter, a young boy, and his mother, Mae, in a car. Mae is explaining
to Walter how she met a man who is going to get her a job in up and coming technology,

European Imperialism Research Paper

9 October 2014 The history of Morocco relevant to European colonialism begins with the Arab
conquest of North Africa in the late seventh century. When the Arabs arrived, they brought with them
the religion of Islam and converted the people they found there. Those people were the Berbers, who
are indigenous to the region. Like the Europeans to come later, the Arabs imposed taxes on the
Berbers, however the Arabs allowed the Berbers to keep the laws and customs they already had. Later,
less than a century after this conquest, the Berbers revolted and regrouped into smaller, self governed
states. Islam in Morocco took different forms after that, with each state bending it to its own needs.

However, the explicit goal of Lyautey and his associates was to improve the quality of indigenous
public service so that eventually it would function with only minimal French intervention
(Gershovich). France contributed a lot to Morocco during its time as a colonial influence. It built
26,660 miles of roadways. It also helped to improve other infrastructure as well as modernize
agricultural systems. France gifted to Morocco, with their own goals in mind, the starting blocks of a
prosperous, efficient economy. That being said, Lyautey worked hard to not allow colons to enter
Morocco, but the French leaders that came after him did not feel the same way. Colons did end up in
the region, and Lyautey tried hard to prove that, he was not in a conquered country and to maintain the
fiction that the French had been invited there to help (Bidwell). Regardless, racism proliferated and
the indigenous population was subjugated. After Lyautey, Morocco began to resemble a different
colonized state one under harsh foreign rule. They kept the façade of the sultan, and built schools and
hospitals, but without involving the Moroccans in the process. Eventually, French rule over Morocco
became so harsh compared to how it was under Lyautey that in 1953, Moroccans were, being
imprisoned for waving their national banner (Bidwell). Another concept the French subscribed to, as
well as other colonizers, was separating ethnic tribes or groups and putting them against each other in
order to keep control over the region. For example, the, Berber Dahir legislation of 1930 that had
established different legal systems for the two Moroccan ethnic groups, Imazighen (Berbers) and
Arabs a policy resented by both groups

Adventure Education and Wilderness Sports

States and the world today. The U.S. has been greatly impacted by this disease and more and more

Not all schools have climbing walls in their schools so activities like the trust walk can be done which
does not require any equipment. In the trust walk students are paired up and one student wears a
blindfold and the other student leads and helps the blind folded student walk around while avoiding
obstacles. This type of activity helps develop trust amongst the students as well as communication
skills. Adventure Education uses different activities like that to promote physical activity, and students
of all different skill levels can participate. Adventure sports and activities are better than team sports
because any student can excel at them, rather than in team sports where some students are not athletic
and refuse to participate. Adventure education should be taught to older elementary grade levels such
as grades 4 and 5, and to middle school children. The skills needed to succeed are basic motor skills
and do not require any athleticism, and promotes interpersonal skills. As the students begin to grow
older and reach high school, they can participate in wilderness sports in physical education class.
Wilderness sports are related to adventure education but there are differences. Wilderness sports
promote physically challenging outdoor activities such as camping, backpacking, canoeing, hiking,
orienteering, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and cycling

Fice Of Child Protective Services
History tells us that child abuse and neglect have been present in the United States since its
origination. In an attempt to help prevent this from happening and supply aid to those in need, the
federal government created The Office of Child Protective Services. The Office of Child Protective
Services provides several functions for the Family Services Division of the Department of Human
Resources. The child protective services includes maintaining the Central Registry on Child Abuse
and Neglect, applying for and monitoring grants for protective services projects and providing case
consultation services. The social work intern provided assistance to a case worker that received a case
that was reported by The University of South Alabama s Children s and Women s Hospital. The report
stated that an African American 16 year old male was admitted for diabetic ketoacidosis with
hypotension due to severe dehydration. The client was admitted to The University of South Alabama s
Children s and Women s Hospital eight times within this year. The client and his mother were
noncompliant with medication and treatment. The client s doctor stated that the client would not
survive if noncompliance continues. The client s primary system that this report disclosed was that the
client is in danger because he is not taking care of himself by not taking his medication.

Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address In The Film
Towards the end of the film after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, one of the last scenes feature
an excerpt of his second inaugural address as he spoke in front of the people who looked up to him.
Some historians believed that Lincoln s second inaugural address is his greatest speech delivered to
the people of the United States. Lincoln mentioned the word God multiple times in his address since
Christianity, in general, is one of the most important aspects that greatly influenced and shaped the
country throughout America s long history.
One of the examples from Abraham Lincoln s second inaugural address that incorporated religion and

analyze the static electricity, electrical charge, charge grounding, inducing charge, and electric
polarization. We used two wands that created positive and negative charges when rubbed together one
is blue and the other is white. We put one of the wands inside the pail attached to the electrometer to

When we used both wands, the electrometer almost read zero volts throughout the duration of the
experiment. This proves that the negativity of the particles on the blue wand were equal to the positive
charge of the particles on the white wand; so it cancelled each other out. While using the both wands
we encountered an error. The voltage should have been zero when the wands was out the pail and not
touching the pail; however the electrometer reading was 3 volt. This is most likely due to a random
error in measurement due to a faulty electrometer or pail. The electrometer may have not been
sensitive enough to pick up all the charged particles when the wands were not out the pail we should
have repeated this so we can get accurate readings. Voltage/ Distance 60 cm (Second Sphere

Back (far) 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts Left 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 1.2 Volts Right 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 0.3
Volts In part two of this experiment, we set up two conductive spheres 30 cm apart from each other.
We applied 2000 volts to one of the spheres. We grounded the aluminum wand placed it tangent to the
charged sphere to collect particles. The wand was then placed into the pail without contact and record
a positive charge of 0.6 Volts. This lets us know that the electric field has a radius of at least 30 cm.
We repeated these steps with 2 cm distance

The Smallest Dragonboy Essay
Everyone knows that one cannot succeed at everything in life. But for one to not be good enough at a
major one has to try it out first. At some point everyone has tried a new hobby as for an example
dance and then been either told that one was not good enough or simply one found out by them selves.
Either way it is insulting and disappointing to be told that the way you are build is no good for the one
thing you love to do. But would we not be living in a boring world if everyone were the same? Our
difference defines us as an individual person our one person. Some of us are tall and some of us are

Then I met Colin and he told me how wrong I was. Now I realize it is simply something I was born with (438.) Dumi s ability to thrive in the face of adversity allows him to be himself and overcome the limits imposed on him by the Zimbabwean government. He embraces his identity and form friendships and romantic relationships with people who understand him. He stays in the country that is attempting to reject him in order to be with his lover, family, and friends. He understands the threat he faces, but it does not prevent him being with the man he loves or coming out to his family. The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this moment. Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an obvious symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The Piano. Men of both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump unmusically on it when it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame as Flora plays for him. Baines acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the piano. The physicality of the piano and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for parts of her body he is given permission to touch and see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing on the A key Ada loves George ; and when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines in person, she removes a key (G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart. Consequently, nursing theorists have considered other legitimate ways of knowing.5 Carper s paper on patterns of knowing was a landmark in the nursing literature which extended in a new perspective our understanding of types of knowledge and theory needed in a practice oriented discipline such as nursing.6 Her work was published in a time that nursing was struggling to obtain a consensus of identity with a unique body of knowledge.7 Nursing was very much influenced by scientism which holds the positivistic view that the only reality is the one which can be empirically verified.6 Carper, stated that the only valid and reliable knowledge of that time in nursing was empirical, factual, objectively descriptive, and generizable .4 However, in addition to empirical knowledge, Carper identified ethics aesthetics, and personal knowing. She suggested that these patterns are all necessary, interrelated, interdependent and overlapping, and create the whole of knowing. Carper s work counted upon the assumption that the patterns and structure of nursing knowledge provide the unique perspectives of the discipline. However, Boykin et al reject this thesis, proposing that is the conception of nursing which provides the structure of nursing knowledge rather than the patterns of knowing.7 In addition, they comment on her failure to distinguish between ... • 13. The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis The Five People You Meet In Heaven The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom is a heartfelt story of a war veteran named Eddie who works at the Ruby Pier. On his 83rd birthday, Eddie is killed trying to save a little girl from the falling cart of a ride that malfunctioned. When Eddie goes to heaven, he meets five people that tell him different things about his life and teach him lessons. Within the book, there are many important symbols. The Ferris wheel and the ocean are two of these symbols that help contribute to a deeper meaning of the story. The ocean is a beautiful yet dangerous thing that represents not only destruction but new beginnings. When Eddie met Ruby, the woman Ruby Pier was named after, she told Eddie the story of how the pier came to be. Her husband, Emile, was captivated by the ocean and enjoyed seaside resorts. He ...loved the attractions, the salty food, the gypsies and fortune tellers... (115). and once they got married, Emile promised to build a resort park just for Ruby. When the pier burned down after a firework incident on the Fourth Of July, Emile was devastated after all the work he put into the pier and his spirit was as broken as his body (122). The couples love for the ocean was the initial reason the pier was built and it led to destruction. Apart from the demolition of Ruby Pier, the ocean also led to another event of destruction. One night, Eddie saw a man named Mickey Shea sexually harassing his mother in his own house. Mickey was a friend of Eddie s father, and when Eddie s father came home, he chased Mickey out the house with a hammer. They ran in the middle of a storm to the pier, and Mickey ended up rolling under a wood railing into the ocean below. Eddie s dad jumped into the water after him and dragged him to shore, where they both collapsed on the sand (134 136). Eddie s father ended up catching pneumonia and his condition went from fair to stable and from stable to serious (124 25). Eddie s father ended up dying and Eddie s life was never the same afterward. A new beginning did sprout for Eddie out of his father s sickness, though. Eddie started his work at the pier: greasing the tracks, repairing broken parts in the shop, and testing levers. Eddie ... We have close friends who have a fourteen year old son with Down syndrome and I was given permission to spend time with Jason (not his real name) over a weekend and this enabled me to observe an adolescent male who happens to be a special needs child. The adolescent period of human development interests me since this stage in life presents significant changes and is considered to be some of the most critical and challenging years in human development. The addition of the documented special need made the opportunity very intriguing and I thought it created an excellent learning opportunity. Not only would I be digging into the development of a 14 year old, I would also be gaining knowledge about the impact or effects of Down syndrome on development. Jason is 14 years old, short but heavy set for his age and height. Napoleon as the Betrayer to the French Revolution Napoleon Bonaparte has remained one of history s most furiously debated characters. This is because there has been much speculation and many differing interpretations of his actions as leader of France from 1799 1815. Most historians tend to have been torn between the portraits of Napoleon as the heir of the Revolution or as the destroyer of the Revolution s most sacred principles. He managed to agree to a Concordat between France and the Pope that recognised Roman Catholicism as France s principle religion and sees the Pope as the head of the Roman Catholic Church. Emmanuel de Las Cases, who accompanied Napoleon into exile on St. Helena, was the author of Napoleon s main biography, The Legend of Napoleon . In his writings, Napoleon became the founder of the Revolution and the protagonist of its achievements. He preserved the principles of liberty and equality, confirmed the destruction of feudalism, united the fractions within France and propagated the principles of the Revolution abroad. In the 1830s and 1840s, the Napoleonic Legend arose in France. People in France yearned for the excitement and adventure of Napoleon and his legend provided this. What is the advantage of predicting the outcome of TBI? Doctors can advise patients early, and they can recommend whether or not they need to take time off work. In addition, they can decide if the person will need followup treatment with a neurologist. This is extraordinarily important considering that TBI is a lead cause of disability and death within the United States. With blood tests accurately identifying if a patient has suffered from TBI, they can reduce the amount of unnecessary CT scans by about 30 percent. We have seen a need for an accurate and faster screening tool. Coupled with a CT scan, it becomes much easier to detect when things have gone amiss. While 16 European countries regularly use blood tests as an accepted standard for testing for TBI, the United States still only uses the CT scan. What do doctors test for? In previous studies, researchers discovered that the protein known as S 100B serum increased rapidly after brain injuries. Their rationality is based on the fact that democracy empowers the masses that are able to use this power to fight back and prevent their government from abusing their human rights. Democracy also makes it easier for citizens to report instances of state repression to the international community, thus forcing abusive leaders to either stop the abuses or to renounce their power (Poe Tate, 1994, p. 855 866). In a semi democratic country like Russia, this empowerment of the masses has less strength to significantly prevent state repression, and sometimes the ability to shed light on abuses is difficult since mass media is practically controlled by the abusive government. Similarly, Davenport (1995) argues that democratic governments are less likely to use repression when dealing with mass demonstrations because their nature is to allow expressions of freedom by the citizenry, which they are aware always comes with a level of domestic disorder. This awareness decreases the use of violence against the citizens (p. 690 691). I will include a short background and a quick summary of history and then describe a few aspects of their culture including: language, subsistence practices, kinship and descent, marriage and household, beliefs and worship, and a unique cultural practice. The Maori, culturally Polynesians, are the indigenous inhabitants of New Zealand. The people who call themselves the Maori are originally from the Polynesian islands and settled in New Zealand around the 13th century. The tribes of the Maori did not identify themselves by a collective name until European settlers arrived and then the use of the name Maori, which means ordinary came into use. The Maori today make up about 15% (565,329 people) of New Zealand s population with the majority living in urban area, while there are still few who live in the ancestral tribal areas. Many also live overseas with 70,000 in Australia and 10,000 in England. Around 1300 AD, a great migration of people set sail for what is now New Zealand. These people came in seven very large canoes called Waka which were built to withstand rough seas and carry many people including all of their possessions over long journeys. • 27. Definition Of Family In Secondhand Lions Family in a conventional context is seen as mothers and fathers providing for their children, both mentally and economically. In Secondhand Lions, Walter s mother does not provide in an economic or mental way and he is forced to live a life without the feeling of genuine love. When Walter s mother realizes her uncles are rich she sends Walter to them in hopes he will find their money. Walter does not want to go there at first but as his experiences with his uncles progress, and they teach him what it means to be a man, he realizes they are his true family and he would rather be with them than his mother. The word family is derived from the Latin form, Familia. The conventional definition of family is a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Familia in its traditional definition means servants of a household. Family is generally related to the Holy Family. The Holy Family consists of baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph. Family is also seen in many great works of literature throughout history. Including, Oedipus by Sophocles. In Oedipus, he is prophesized to kill his father and marry and produce kids with his mother. This Greek tragedy shows the twisted forms of family that is possible and has been focused on by psychiatrists like Sigmund Freud. Secondhand Lions begins with Walter, a young boy, and his mother, Mae, in a car. Mae is explaining to Walter how she met a man who is going to get her a job in up and coming technology, ... • 28. European Imperialism Research Paper Emily Wren IR 351 Woldemariam 9 October 2014 The history of Morocco relevant to European colonialism begins with the Arab conquest of North Africa in the late seventh century. When the Arabs arrived, they brought with them the religion of Islam and converted the people they found there. Those people were the Berbers, who are indigenous to the region. Like the Europeans to come later, the Arabs imposed taxes on the Berbers, however the Arabs allowed the Berbers to keep the laws and customs they already had. Later, less than a century after this conquest, the Berbers revolted and regrouped into smaller, self governed states. Islam in Morocco took different forms after that, with each state bending it to its own needs. After a period of chaos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the explicit goal of Lyautey and his associates was to improve the quality of indigenous public service so that eventually it would function with only minimal French intervention (Gershovich). France contributed a lot to Morocco during its time as a colonial influence. It built 26,660 miles of roadways. It also helped to improve other infrastructure as well as modernize agricultural systems. France gifted to Morocco, with their own goals in mind, the starting blocks of a prosperous, efficient economy. That being said, Lyautey worked hard to not allow colons to enter Morocco, but the French leaders that came after him did not feel the same way. Colons did end up in the region, and Lyautey tried hard to prove that, he was not in a conquered country and to maintain the fiction that the French had been invited there to help (Bidwell). Regardless, racism proliferated and the indigenous population was subjugated. After Lyautey, Morocco began to resemble a different colonized state one under harsh foreign rule. They kept the façade of the sultan, and built schools and hospitals, but without involving the Moroccans in the process. Eventually, French rule over Morocco became so harsh compared to how it was under Lyautey that in 1953, Moroccans were, being imprisoned for waving their national banner (Bidwell). Another concept the French subscribed to, as well as other colonizers, was separating ethnic tribes or groups and putting them against each other in order to keep control over the region. For example, the, Berber Dahir legislation of 1930 that had established different legal systems for the two Moroccan ethnic groups, Imazighen (Berbers) and Arabs a policy resented by both groups ... In the trust walk students are paired up and one student wears a blindfold and the other student leads and helps the blind folded student walk around while avoiding obstacles. This type of activity helps develop trust amongst the students as well as communication skills. Adventure Education uses different activities like that to promote physical activity, and students of all different skill levels can participate. Adventure sports and activities are better than team sports because any student can excel at them, rather than in team sports where some students are not athletic and refuse to participate. Adventure education should be taught to older elementary grade levels such as grades 4 and 5, and to middle school children. The skills needed to succeed are basic motor skills and do not require any athleticism, and promotes interpersonal skills. As the students begin to grow older and reach high school, they can participate in wilderness sports in physical education class. Electric Charge And The Electric Field EXPERIMENT #1: ELECTRIC CHARGE AND THE ELECTRIC FIELD PHY 2092 10 By: Kamal Aljohani Date Performed: 12 January 2015 Date Submitted: 30 January 2015 Lab Partners: Martynas Mickus Sean Small Instructor: Robert J Lucia INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this experiment is to analyze the static electricity, electrical charge, charge grounding, inducing charge, and electric polarization. We used two wands that created positive and negative charges when rubbed together one is blue and the other is white. We put one of the wands inside the pail attached to the electrometer to read the wand s voltage. In the second part of the experiment, a conductive sphere was applied 2000 volts, and voltage s readings were taken at different locations on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we used both wands, the electrometer almost read zero volts throughout the duration of the experiment. This proves that the negativity of the particles on the blue wand were equal to the positive charge of the particles on the white wand; so it cancelled each other out. While using the both wands we encountered an error. The voltage should have been zero when the wands was out the pail and not touching the pail; however the electrometer reading was 3 volt. This is most likely due to a random error in measurement due to a faulty electrometer or pail. The electrometer may have not been sensitive enough to pick up all the charged particles when the wands were not out the pail we should have repeated this so we can get accurate readings. Voltage/ Distance 60 cm (Second Sphere Grounded) 30 cm (Charge Sphere) 2 cm (Second Sphere) Front (near) 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts Back (far) 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts Left 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 1.2 Volts Right 0.6 Volts 0.6 Volts 0.3 Volts In part two of this experiment, we set up two conductive spheres 30 cm apart from each other. We applied 2000 volts to one of the spheres. We grounded the aluminum wand placed it tangent to the charged sphere to collect particles. The wand was then placed into the pail without contact and record a positive charge of 0.6 Volts. This lets us know that the electric field has a radius of at least 30 cm.
