whenever Richard Nixon resigned office and her husband Gerald Ford become president. And she
says When I went into the operating room, that morning I had a pretty good premonition it was going
to turn out to be a malignancy and that my breast would have to be removed.
The doctors had removed Betty Ford s breast cancer before it had become to bad. And she had known
this because the doctors had said that they had done a good job at removing it and had done it fast.

My Lifetime Intrigue With Tattoos Essay
Introduction
My lifetime intrigue with tattoos has led me to research the history and culture surrounding tattooing. I
have already collected several pieces, both small and large, on my body and am endlessly curious
about the culture of body modification. The objective of my research is to discover the ancient history
of body art, the social and cultural significances and stigmas of tattoos, as well as to discover the
process of getting a custom tattoo. After defining my objectives and doing preliminary research, I have
chosen to analyze and interpret the existing research about this subject through a conceptual
framework. This framework indicates that tattooing is an ancient art form practiced around the world
for many different reasons and has a diverse cultural and social significance in today s societies. This
framework was chosen as a result of preliminary reading and analyzing existing research about the
history and culture of tattooing. This existing research has shown that the practice of tattooing dates
back to ancient civilizations, as well as the different perceptions of body art in current global societies,
both negative and positive. My research will consist of three topics; ancient tattooing history, the
recent history and the emergence of western practice, and the social and cultural significance and
stigmas in global societies today.

Analysis Of Cyrano De Bergerac By Edmond Rostand
Edmond Rostand s Cyrano de Bergerac is considered to be a Chivalric Romance but it also contains
humor throughout. The play uses comedy throughout all of the acts for a variety of reasons. Cyrano
who is the main character of the play is also the largest comic influence. With Cyrano, we see him
develop through comedy and learn more about his character with it, and it is not only used by Cyrano
but also many other characters. Comedy is used in a variety of ways throughout Cyrano de Bergerac
such as wordplay and sarcasm. The comedy is all used for different reasons, nevertheless, the humor
in Cyrano plays an important role in the play.
During the play Cyrano de Bergerac there are often very deep and depressing moments and to pick the
audience up Edmund Rostand used humor. This is seen in all of the acts throughout the play and is one
of the main uses of humor in the play. This is not the only use of humor in this play it is also used by
Cyrano to hide his insecurities. Throughout the play, Cyrano makes fun of his own nose to make it
seem like he is comfortable with it and so others can not make fun of it. Humor definitely plays an
important role in Cyrano de Bergerac and through this essay, I will be examining the role of Humor in
the play in depth.
One of the most well known scenes in Cyrano De Bergerac is his monologue about his nose. He
makes Jokes about his nose after being insulted about it by Valvert. The insult was not great and
Cyrano improved on it with his

Ellen Degeneres Accomplishments
Strong. Funny. Inspirational. These are only a few words out of many that describe Ellen DeGeneres.
Ellen s early years were turbulent, but she turned the bad into good with her incredible work ethic.
Even through the tough traumatic incident with her inspiration she still prevailed to become the person
we know and love today. She is extremely successful in the work that she does making her the finest
in her line of work, and her accomplishments show that she is an enormous inspiration to anyone of

Ellen s inspirations helped her in being the first female on the tonight show with Johnny Carson. Ellen
s first TV show was the Open House. She plays the character Margo Van Meter, a real estate firm
secretary in L.A. Ellen finds her place though in another sitcom called, These Friends of Mine. In this
TV show Ellen plays a bookstore employee named Ellen Morgan. Due to the success of the TV show,
Ellen earns four Outstanding Lead Actress nominations, a writing Emmy win, and three Golden Globe
nods in its five year run ( Ellen DeGeneres ). On April 14, 1997, Ellen comes out on the cover of Time
making her the first openly gay TV star. Since the news of Ellen being gay was released, a record of
42 million people listened to Ellen s comes out show. Although with her great success, religious
groups protested the show. ABC cancelled Ellen in 1998. In 2001, after the cancellation of her show,
Ellen made a new show called, The Ellen Show. Although reviewers praised the show, it did not get a
large audience. After the disappointments, DeGeneres s professional life hit one distinctly positive
note, setting the stage for what some have described as her career s second act. Soon after the terrorist
attacks of September 11, 2001, DeGeneres hosted the prime time Emmy Awards; due to the tragedy
the program was twice delayed ( Ellen DeGeneres ). For the next year, Ellen started showing up more

Net Neutrality Video Analysis
After reviewing the videos about net neutrality, and the pros and cons on the subject, I am a supporter
of net neutrality and against priority internet access. The meaning behind net neutrality is essentially
that no bit of information should be prioritized over another bit of information. The first video s
analogy was comparing the big internet broadband companies, such as Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, as
big trucks dominating over the other smaller internet sites which would be the smaller cars on the
highway. Now since the FCC s new rule, those big companies will not be able to dominate the speeds
of internet because they paid more money. I believe that the internet does not need broadband
companies fighting over who is going to control

Reassess The Food Service System Essay
The aim of this proposal is to reassess the food service process in provided within a hospital. It is
essential that the hospital s food service system requirements for all the nutrients and calories needed
to restore and maintain the health of all patients. Implementing these changes will require a health care
leader who will articulate well defined, clear objectives and measures and will incorporate a timeline
and standards for the revised food service system (Dye, 2010). Food service in hospitals is changing
by moving away from the traditional tray line system, in which trays move along an assembly line, to
room service, thus allowing in patients to choose nutritious meals. The health care industry is ever
more competitive, and hospitals are now recognizing patients as customers, and seeking ways to
influence patients satisfaction scores during a hospital stay (K. Kim, M. Kim Lee 2010). In this
proposal, the objectives of the value stream mapping in figure 1 are to strategically identify and
remove waste, cut costs, reduce labor, and increase patient satisfaction scores, while providing
nutritious meals. A Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW) will include staff from the call
center, cooks, food prepares, dietitians, food delivery personnel, nursing managers, staff from finance,
and administration, and customers who filled out a food survey to give their perspective. Each team
member can provide insight into some important processes that may or may not be

Becoming A Licensed Practical Nurse
Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse is something I decided to
wanted to do while working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. It is a very fulfilling experience. Caring
for others is something that takes patience, hard work, sympathy, and education. Licensed Practical
Nurses provide a number of services and have many duties. Most duties are supervised under a
Register Nurse or a doctor. Some duties include measuring vital signs, maintaining patient records,
dressing wounds, helping with personal hygiene just to name a few things. The duties of a LPN vary
from state to state. There are many career options available for LPNs. Many LPNs start their careers in
nursing homes for the elderly. This is because environments such as hospitals like to see long term
care experience on a LPN s resume. Some LPNs do in home care services. This is when the LPN goes
to the patient s home and takes care of what they need in the privacy of their own home. You ll find
LPNs working in a hospital setting often as well doing many tasks and working in different
departments. Doctor s offices have LPNs working for them as well. There are many different routes a
LPN can go in their field. The daily routine for a LPN usually goes as follows. First, they make sure
they get to work with enough time before their shift begins to go over the charts made by the previous
LPN to catch up on what s been going on with the patients. After checking the charts they will start

Chemical Substances And Its Effects On The Skin Essay
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms that contain one or
more drug substances intended for topical application. (Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009) Pastes
are also intended for application to oral cavity or mucous membranes besides the skin. Pastes are
usually prepared from fats, fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing
homogeneously powdered drug with the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for
Pharmaceutical Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes and non greasy
pastes which is made from single phase aqueous gel.
Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having differences between
paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes contain a high proportion of finely
powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally composed of ointment bases that contain a high
concentration (frequently 50%w/w) of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than
that of pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft paraffin) or
water soluble (glycerol or mucilage). (Prashant, 2010)
Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often used for
protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily do not flow at body
temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. Fatty pastes that have a high proportion of
hydrophilic solids

Security Issues Facing Elementary Schools
The most substantial security issue facing elementary schools is the predictability of schedules.
Students, faculty, and even maintenance staff generally have the same schedule every week if not
every day. Therefore, if there were a potential attacker looking to launch an assault on a public school,
it would be very easy for him or her to target a particular time and place in which most of the school s
members would be. Additionally, if a perpetrator were looking for a specific individual, he or she
could easily find that person since the schedules are fairly rigid. Middle and junior high schools face
security issues relating to students wanting to cut class. When most students are in their middle school
years, they get their first truly rebellious tendencies. As such, students may want to skip school and go
places that are not safe and which may expose them to vulnerabilities. Additionally, such students may
also attract the attention of outsiders and attempt to bring them back to campus, which would affect
the security of the entire school. Many of the security threats that affect high schools are related to
those that affect colleges and universities as well. One of these is that students may tend to engage in
drugs and alcohol, which can affect their moods and create disagreeable, violent tendencies. Also, the
concept of sacred cows applies in high schools. This term refers to the fact that certain students may
believe that they are beyond reproach or privy to certain

The Need for Policy Makers to Regulate Human Genetic...
Human genetic engineering (HGE), a prevalent topic for scientists in research, is the process of
manipulating genes in the human genome. Potentially, scientists can use the process of HGE to alter
many biological and psychological human traits by gene modification. Currently, however, there is a
large deficiency in information regarding HGE and its effects to the human body; creating a need for
scientists to conduct more research and tests. Because of the many unknowns involving HGE it is
necessary for policy makers to regulate HGE for the use by scientists. The first part of this paper will
provide an overview of what HGE is and the processes involved with the technology of HGE. This
paper will then analyze the potential risks associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gyngell s article analyzes the potential for HGE to increase the human life span, while providing a
description of the process of HGE and predicting that HGE may eliminate disease via gene selection.
Both of these articles provide credible and informative arguments that illustrate many different aspects
of the potential impacts of HGE. HGE modifies the genomes of humans to produce a specific
phenotype (a set of observable characteristics of an organism) or genotype (genetic constitution of an
organism) that embodies desirable characteristics [1]. Therefore, HGE differs from archaic processes
of selective breeding and artificial selection because it directly alters genes. The main focuses of HGE
research are genes that code for immunity, cognitive abilities, and psychological mentality. The use of
HGE in gametes and early development embryos is of particular interest to scientists because of its
potential to grant them control over heritable traits. This ability can have great impact on the future of
evolution because it provides humans with the control of the production of combinations of genes that
would otherwise be unachievable. The potential for this level of control creates a need for regulation
by policy makers, who have an obligation to consider the risks, and the benefits that coincide with the
future of HGE. The development of more information and technology continues to increase the
potential for scientists to manipulate complex

Abstract
This report presents an alternative energy is any energy source that from fossil fuel. We need to turn to
alternative energy in general. Firstly, we were in danger of ruining the planet s climate through fossil
fuel emissions. Furthermore, we cannot keep using fossil fuels forever that will run out someday [1].
In addition, the problem of the current energy that we can focus was energy security and independence
viewpoint because our nation has increased its dependence on foreign oil supplies instead of
decreasing it especially from nations under the rule of a dictator or unstable countries where human
rights violations are common [2].
1.0 Introduction
Nowadays, many power stations across the world burn fossil fuels to generate energy. When fossil
fuels are burned to generate energy, they lead to increased concentrations of carbon dioxide and
Sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere which contributes to global warming. However, stocks of fossil
fuels are limited and alternatives need to be found. Alternative energy sources are a popular topic of
conversion these days, as many of them believe that they can hold a promising solution to meet our

Technolgy and Pilot s Training
Flight Simulator is a great example of technology device that plays important part in pilot s training. I
chose Flight Simulator because it is a good topic to be focused on. Firstly, flight simulator is a high
technology machine designed to look like a cockpit of an aircraft, it has computer generated images
that shows the pilot s view, the same environment as a real plane has. It has powerful structure with
mechanisms that move the device in various condition. Just key in the condition you want. Rainy ?
40km/h of wind ? This device can make it. It is a device that artificially re creates cockpit like real
aircraft. Basically, it is used for pilot training, aircraft design, and any other purposes. In flight
simulator, you can start wherever you want, moving away from the hangar, take off landing etc. In
simulator it includes real environment of a flight with same mechanism on how aircraft fly etc.
INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND
Before World War 1, the first recorded flight simulator was built on 1909, the simulator was built to
help pilot fly a monoplane designed by Antoinette. Antoinette is a French manufacturer of light petrol
engine. Later on, Antoinette became the most important and the pioneer builder of aeroplanes. The
Antoinette unit was pivoted and they need assistants outside the device so that they could roll and
pitch the device. They built it using long wooden rods attached to the barrel. The first full size model
was named Antoinette Barrel Trainer .

products reach their customers. In countries like the US and China, e commerce has already made
substantial gains by achieving sales of over 150 billion USD in revenue. However, the industry in
India is, still at its infancy. In spite of this, over the last few years, E Commerce has grown
considerably by over 35% CAGR from 3.8 billion USD in 2009 to around 12.6 billion USD in 2013.

Dante Inferno
Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet and a moral philosopher born in Florence in 1265. He is most
known for the epic poem The Divine Comedy , which he wrote after he was exiled for twenty years
and so he began to travel and write. This epic poem was written for the purpose of warning Christians
of the society he was in to repent and fear the wrath of hell or experience the rewards of paradise. It
was most likely Dante s own experiences of love, politics and exile that inspired him to write so
deeply. The Divine Comedy is a work of originality. Dante is an important figure for Italian literature
and Western literature in general. The reason for that is his imagery brings the reader into his world
and his senses. Dante provides an in depth analysis of Hell and all its dimensions, more than we would
ever imagine. His imagery does not only enforce the reader to imagine the words but also to take the
journey with him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dante s journey goes from Hell, to purgatory and finally to paradise, leaving the readers with a happy
ending. Dante titled the epic poem The Divine Comedy but there is not a single joke in the book, quite
the opposite. The comedy of his journey is that it ends on a good note instead of a bad. The most
interesting aspect about Dante is, while he is on the journey though the nine circles of hell, he does not
realize that he can still achieve salvation and be forgiven and he has the opportunity to enter paradise.
Dante s imagery pulls the reader into all nine circles of hell. Also, Dante felt pity for most of the
sinners but not all of them. His sympathy declines as the story goes on. He feels the least pity towards
Simonists, those religious leaders that make a profit out of sacred

The Structural Change Of The Inner City Job Market
The drastic reduction of stable manufacturing work in American cities remains one of the biggest, if
not the foremost, issue linked to poverty. The growth in blue collar factory, transportation and
construction jobs that were traditionally held by men has dissipated for a variety of reasons, from
Globalization to the rise in Illegal Immigration. This structural change in the inner city job market is
of particular interest because of the amalgamation of both Economics and Poverty/Segregation issues.
Without clearly defining and addressing this crucial structural issue, the war on poverty will be
extremely difficult to successfully address and overcome. It is difficult to overstate the extent to which

The closure of big factories and the like ravished the Union industry, which had previously negotiated
rather lofty compensation deals with the corporations. Clerical jobs also garnered about 30% lower in
wages, which added to the growing plight of poverty. Women traditionally staffed the new clerical
jobs and were aided with the rise in women s rights. On the other hand, these men, primarily African
American as will be discussed later, had almost no alternatives or any light at the end of the tunnel,
considering the many obstacles in their path adapting to the changing world. The ethnic group affected
most by this structural shift in job market is African Americans and played a significant part in the
continuation of their high poverty levels. The Great Migration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries
led to millions of Blacks moving North hoping for a better life and escaping the cruel post Civil war
and Jim Crow environment in the South. As Massey writes, this led to the formation of the black
Ghetto : highly concentrated black neighborhoods in many Northern cities. Whilst today the Ghetto
holds a negative connotation for some, it is important to note that Black intellectuals like Booker T.
Washington were actually in favor of creating such ghettos early on. In their minds, the creation of
independent, self sustaining black neighborhoods would lead to economic sustenance, a vibrant

Why Do Families Have A Coat Of Arms
Most families have a coat of arms. A coat of arms is a shield of a person, family, corporation, or
country. These were used on the field of battle to identify a family because when everyone is covered
in head to toe in armour it is hard to tell who is who. I have a coat of arms myself. My coat of arms
has three fleur de lies and one chevron. It also contains the colors blue and gold. On the coat of arms
are colors called tinctures. Tinctures are the colors on your shield. My shield includes blue and gold.
The blue stands for fidelity, steadfastness, strength, and loyalty. The gold stands understand respect,
virtue, majesty, and generosity. These traits define my family perfectly because my family is really
generous, strong, and loyal. My family is generous, because because everyday my parents sacrifice
their time to care for me and my siblings. We are also strong because all of us play sports and workout

Ordinaries are the nine most simplest charges on a coat of arms. Lines of separation are the edges of

my family are really protective over each other. I don t have a line of separation but if I were to pick
one that best represents my family it would be potenty. Which means one who was injured in battle.
This is perfect because I have several family members who served in the army and got injured. On my
shield I don t have any marks of cadency. I would pick the first son because there is only one son in
my family. I don t have any crosses on my shield, but if I did I would pick the christian cross because

Gothic Elements In Gothic Literature
Gothic literature can be defined as writing that employs dark and picturesque scenery, startling and
melodramatic narrative devices, and an overall atmosphere of exoticism, mystery, and dread.
The gothic world is dark and can contain evil, dark and mysteries. The short stories A Rose for Emily
written by William Faulkner, The Black Cat written by Edgar Allen Poe, Prey written by Richard
Matheson, The Feather Pillow , written by Horacio Quiroga and the novel The Night Circus written by
Erin Morgenstern all represent several gothic elements. Isolation or entrapment is a gothic element
that is found in The Night Circus , A Rose for Emily and The Feather Pillow . Violence or revenge is a
gothic element that is well represented by the short stories The Black Cat , Prey and the novel The
Night Circus . The narrators use these types of gothic elements to prove that if you stay away from
people around you or force others to isolate themselves from the world and act evil towards others, it
will lead to your own catastrophe.
In the short story A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, Miss Emily stays locked in her house
guarding a morbid secret. That happened after her dad dies and her boyfriend skips town. One
example of isolation foreshadowing Emily s own desolation. The narrator expresses her loneliness as

Theme Of Manipulation In Othello
Manipulation is the controlling by artful, unfair, or insidious means especially to one s own advantage.
In the play Othello by William Shakespeare, Iago uses manipulation to procure what he wants. The
story of Othello is about a man named Othello, who married a the virtuous Desdemona. Othello and
Desdemona are madly in love and have already overcame many obstacles to be together, much to the
dismay of Roderigo. A man who longed for Desdemona, and consistently chased after her. He was
overlooked for a high position in the army and had heard rumors that Othello has slept with his wife
Emilia. For these crimes, man named Iago is out to destroy Othello s life. Iago deceives many people

To be sure that Othello would be the one charged with murder when the time came about, he told
othello to strangle her rather than poison her. With her strangled in her own bed, the killer would be
obvious to discern, unlike poisoning her, which would be more difficult to prove. Iago knew othello
would jump at this idea as well. He knew that this act was one of revenge and the best way to get said
revenge was to kill her where she had betrayed him.
Iago manipulates Roderigo. Othello has told Iago to murder Cassio. Iago then turns to Roderigo to do
his dirty work. He says to Roderigo, If you will watch his going thence, which I will fashion to fall out
between twelve and one, you may take him at your pleasure: I will be near to second your attempt, and
he shall fall between us. Come, stand not amazed at it, but go along with me; I will show you such a
necessity in his death that you shall think yourself bound to put it on him (4. 2. 235 242). Iago was
more than well informed by roderigo himself about how much he was willing to sacrifice for

ensure that his plot will go through.
At the very end of it all, Iago was a master

Psycho Movie Psychology
The suspenseful TV series, Bates Motel, shocked a multitude of Hitchcock fans last May with the
death of Norma Bates. It was well known from the 1960 film, Psycho, the death of the beloved lead
actress was inevitable from the start, but the bold move of how early it actually was has left many
anticipating the return of the fifth season. The creation of such a mind boggling TV prequel to
Hitchcock s 1960 hit film, Psycho, was well thought out through its grand acting performances from
both lead actor and actress (Highmore and Farmiga), its artful directing taste, and its insanely
insightful character development. There are a few questions that arise about how realistic it is and how
the setting doesn t line up with the original movie. All in all, it is a thrilling, thought provoking show
that lets the audience see how Norman Bates s personality disorder actually developed over time.
Many may remember the movie, Psycho, as the classic horror film that had an iconic shower stabbing
scene. The movie is about an eerily creepy man named Norman Bates who at times believes he is his
deceased mother, Norma Bates. When he is Norma, he murders beautiful women that check into the
Bates Motel. The TV series is set as a prequel to Psycho and begins in the modern day with a
seventeen year old sweet and charming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ultimate end game is to have Norman where he can t distinguish his hallucinations from reality
just like in Psycho. The show builds up this process season after season taking Norman from the sweet
kid he is to a serial psychopathic murderer. The audience is given a chance to watch as his blackouts
grow to be just darkness to his mother talking to him to him actually becoming his homicidal mother.
This concept is so engaging yet so tragically ominous, that one is left feeling a mix of emotions by the

Synthesis of 1- Bromobutane an Sn2 Reaction
Experiment 13:
Synthesis of 1 Bromobutane An SN2 Reaction
Theory: One of the methods of preparing alkyl halides is via the nucleophilic substitution reactions of
alcohols. Alcohols are inexpensive materials and easy to maintain. However, they are a poor leaving
group the OH group is a problem in nucleophilic substitution, this problem is fixed by converting the
alcohol into H2O.
Objective: The objective of this lab is to observe the synthesis of 1 bromobutane in an SN2 reaction,
to see how a primary alky halide reacts with an alcohol.

Discussion: In the synthesis of 1 bromobutane alcohol is a poor leaving group; this problem is fixed
by converting the OH group into H2O, which is a better leaving group. Depending on the structure of
the alcohol it may undergo SN1 or SN2. Primary alky halides undergo SN2 reactions. 1 bromobutane
is a primary alkyl halide, and may be synthesized by the acid mediated reaction of a 1 butonaol with a
bromide ion as a nucleophile. The proposed mechanism involves the initial formation of HBr in situ,
the protonation of the alcohol by HBr, and the nucleophilic displacement by Br to give the 1
bromobutane. In the reaction once the salts are dissolved and the mixture is gently heated with a reflux
a noticeable reaction occurs with the development of two layers. When the distillation was clear the
head temperature was around 115oC because the increased boiling point is caused by co distillation of
sulfuric acid and hydrobromic acid with water. When transferring allof the crude 1 bromobutane
without the drying agent,

Word Frequency Differences
In everyday conversation, there are words that people use quite frequently and words that are used
infrequently, which has been described as Word Frequency (WF). For example, the word cow has a
higher frequency, because it utilized more often in everyday conversation, novels, magazine,
newspaper, and academia than the word tungsten, which is less used (Davies, 2012). Andrews (1989)
argued that based on this concept of WF, NS has an effect only with words that have a low WF.
Explained further, the more neighbors that a low frequency word has, the longer it takes for one to
attain mental activation for word recognition (Andrews, 1992). Furthermore it is argued that WF has
more to do with word recognition than NS effect, because it is shown that ... Show more content on

It was found that regardless of the frequency of the target word, the greater WF difference that the
neighbor word has compared to the target word, the longer the delay in word determination that occurs
(Grainger et al., 1989). In addition, it was found that the larger the amount of these higher frequency
neighbors that the target has, the longer the delay of the neighborhood word (Grainger et al., 1989).
However, studies done by Sears et al. (2006) showed no such high frequency neighbor effect when the
study was replicated in English. The reasons for such disparity is that each language might have
different word characteristic, for example English words tend to be shorter on average than French,
German, or Spanish, which can have more neighbor words, which affects word determination time

South Afric A Country Found At The Southern Tip Of Africa...
Background Information
South Africa is a country found at the southern tip of Africa that boasts of a relatively rich history.
Dutch traders arrived at the south most tip of present day South Africa in 1652 and built a stopover
point on the path that was used to transport spice between Holland and the Far East, consequently
instituting the town of Cape Town. After the British captured the Cape of Good Hope area in 1806,
many of the Dutch residents fled to the north to institute their own republics in areas taken from the
indigenous African populace (Beck, 2014). The exposition of gemstones and silver stimulated
prosperity and immigration and increased the subjugation of the local population. The Afrikaners
opposed English encroachments but were beaten in the Second South African War (1899 1902);
nonetheless, the English and the Afrikaners, continued to rule over South Africa in 1910 under the
Union of South Africa. Following a whites only referendum, South Africa became a republic in 1961
(Thompson Berat, 2014).
In 1948, the National Party, which was widely Afrikaner dominated, was elected into power and
implemented a protocol of apartheid the individualized growth of the races which highly privileged
the white colored community at the cost of the Africans who ironically represented the majority. The
African National Congress (ANC) led the resistance to apartheid and many top ANC pioneers and
leaders, such as Nelson Mandela, were captured and spent a long time in South

Analysis of Dance Styles
For centuries peoples have been dancing as an art form that allows them to physically express
themselves without using words. These are times when simple dignity of movement can fulfill the
function of a volume of words (Humphrey, 1937). A great deal can be understood when a person
watches a person dances. The message that is related is strong and clear. When you understand the
types of dance the message is clear. I will attempt to examine the different forms of dance. We will
look at the forms of dance like Ballet, Modern World/Ritual, Folk, and jazz. Never the less it helps
construct a better understanding of the different forms.

women are unique when they dance they represent grace and puberty of a female. The dancers form a
line and begin to dance as they enter the stage from both sides forming a single line stepping and
clapping to the beat of the drums. In addition as they step to the music they step in rhythm and clap,
gesture to convey the message to the audience. For centuries cultures have danced in many forms to
symbolize a prayer for rain or fertility. These dances are ritual dances. Sampi is a ritual dance done in
Belize the symbolize fertility by jumping instead of flat footed dance. With any ritual they all begin as
one person speaks to the audience and dedicates the ceremony thus many follows after that
(Zimmerns, 2010). Although these dances are known as a ritual many people in Belize participate in
hopes to create and bless the families and others with great fertility and the healthy birth of a child
with any family. There is no known evidence that proves that these types of rituals work but people
continue to partake in the rituals.
Folk Dance For centuries folk dancing has been around since the beginning of time. Natural
spontaneous behavior and festive occasions have been sources of song, music, and dance since time
immemorial (Smith, 2010). Performing a line or circle and singing to provide their own level of

Rose Of Sharon
The Grapes of Wrath was an amazing book. For myself, the book was simple to understand and relate
as many of the dilemmas that the Joad family had gone before, many people still experience today.
Similar to Rose of Sharon, numberless women have problems carrying and giving birth to their
children today. Although we don t have as many migrant workers as in the Joads time, we are still
rather nasty to each other. In this day of age, many people leave their significant other when they find
out that they are pregnant, like Connie left Rose of Sharon. Countless women have a difficult time
throughout pregnancy, a few even lose their child to a miscarriage or a stillborn, such as Rose of
Sharon did. Sadly, my great grandmother had a few miscarriages, as so have several other women.
After talking to my grandmother, I have come to the conclusion that although they didn t have the
chance to watch their child experience life, they still love their child the same. Sadly, people still treat
each other rather nastily and are quite rude to each other; even if we aren t migrant workers like the
Joads. People still call each other nasty names and do rather rude actions. They might think that they
are being civil but in reality, they are being downright rude and nasty. When I read that ... Show more

Genre Theory Paper
Genre theory is used in the study of films in order to categorize films. Genre are dependent on
different factors such as who the director is, story line, and audience expectations (Azia, n.d). Genres
are types or categories and genre films that are usually recognizable as part of a certain genre
(Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014, section 4.1). To better understand genre there are several examples to
look at. When watching a fantasy film we know that within the movie we will expect to see unreal,
magical, or impossible situations, characters or settings often overlapping with various other genres
(GoodyKoontz, 2014). In musical films you will see that the film mainly focuses on songs. Genres
also have subgenres which are sub categories of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of strictly dialogue, the narrative may from time to time be advanced by characters breaking
into song. Numerous subgenres exist within the musical genre from musical comedy to musical drama
to animated musicals to musical documentaries and concert films (Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014,
section 4.4). A scene that helps classify Snow White and the Seven dwarfs into the animated musical
genre is the scene where all the dwarfs are working hard at the jewelry mine and once work gets over
they walk home in a single line singing the song heigh ho heigh ho its home from work we go as they
dance and skip on their walk home from work. Another scene that illustrates a musical/fantasy genre is
the scene where Snow White discovers the dwarf s cabin and with help from the animals of the forest
she starts to clean the house while singing whistle while you work. I m sure we would all love if our
animals could help us with chores around the house but that will most likely never happen. This is a
perfect example of a movie with fantasy genre. The fantasy genre has events that occur outside the
ordinary laws that operate within the universe. Magic is central to the fantasy genre and fantasy stories
often involve journeys and quests like the wicked queen on a quest to kill Snow White. There are three
different ways that fantasy writers set up their worlds. Some films begin and end in a fantasy world,
others start in the real world and a third type of fantasy is set in the real world but elements of magic
intrude upon it (Dewan,

Developing Strategies Involves Hypothesis Generation
Developing strategies involves hypothesis generation, creating a series of if then statements. This
process provides the ability to evaluate program effectiveness, to identify significant objectives and to
organize objectives in hierarchical form (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Program design is essentially
hypothesis generation. The hypothesis then gets translated into goals and objectives that provide a
framework for action, a general direction for the program, a timeframe, details tasks, and clearly states
program expectations, which then provides a foundation for monitoring, performance measurement,
and evaluation (Kettner, et. al, 2013). The hypothesis questions are translated into a plan, becoming

al, 2013).
The process of formulating objectives requires that I first establish the objective outcome, to be
followed by the construction of process objectives. Outcome objectives are statements made that
identify expectations of the program, and process objectives clearly state how the service provision
will achieved results. Alongside process objectives are specific activities that detail tasks for program
implementation (Kettner, et. al, 2013).The five components of objectives are: time frame,
identification of the target of the change, the results or outcomes to be achieved, the criteria by which
the results will be documented, monitored, or measured, and notification of who is responsible for
implementing and measuring the achievement of the objective (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Activities
establish the implementation plan clearly, include deadlines, and delegate responsibility.
For the first objective written to meet the goal of the creation of a behavior management program, the
objective is as follows: It is the objective of this program that by May 30th, 2016 to reduce by 85% the
occurrence of documented wandering by patients at Just Like Home with Alzheimer s disease as

Gay and Lesbian Visibility in Movies and Television
The 1990s saw surge of gay characters in both television and movies. From Ellen Degeneres and her
character Ellen Morgan coming out under much scrutiny on the TV show ‘Ellen, to Julia Roberts and
Rupert Everett comedically playing off each other in the motion picture ‘My Best Friend s Wedding.
Sure, gays and lesbians have been around forever, especially in Hollywood. But never has there been a
time to be more out. With the popularity of shows like Will and Grace, which feature leading gay
characters, as well as Dawson s Creek and it s supporting character of teenager Jack McPhee, we are
slowly seeing gay and lesbian characters creeping into the mainstream media. The family unit has

Ellen did open the door and raise the bar though. Party Of Five s Julia Sallinger kisses her female

masculine, personable and the roommate of a very attractive woman. The WB s Dawson s Creek and
Buffy the Vampire Slayer soon followed, making supporting characters gay and lesbian. HBO s Sex
The City turned one of its core characters, staunch heterosexual Samantha Jones into a swinging
bisexual. The network also features OZ and Six Feet Under, both of which have gay characters and
storylines. Most recently, the now defunct show Once Again, featured a story where a teenage
character begins a relationship with her best friend and shows the youngest lesbian kiss on television
so far. This was most surprising because the show aired on ABC, the company owned by the usually
conservative Disney Corportation. It s also rumored that gay characters are in cartoons and children s
shows. For instance, Tinky Winky, the purple, purse carrying Tellitubby. And then there is the strange
duo of Sesame Street s Burt and Ernie, Batman Robin, Peppermint Patty and ambiguous Marcy from
the Peanuts Gang. Vanity Smurf and Hefty Smurf, created in the 80s also fit the gay stereotype of the

Public Employment Relations Boards ( Perbs )
Public Employment Relations Boards (PERBs) are federal government or state appointed agencies
that are responsible for resolving collective bargaining disputes, determining the bargaining units,
monitoring representing elections, selecting a bargaining agent and solving the employment and labor
related disputes of employees working in the public sector. Bargaining is the process through which
employers and employees negotiate the terms of work and set them down in a formal contract that lays
out all of the rules and regulations. Each side nominates a representative, so both labor and
management are able to convey their terms and conditions and reach a mutually satisfactory
agreement. Public Employment Relations Boards (PERBs) also ensure that the employees of public
sector departments are not at the receiving end of any unfair labor practices. This paper will examine
three Public Employment Relations Boards, the ones for California, Delaware and the District of
Columbia. The California Public Employment Relations Board is responsible for governing a total of
eight collective bargaining statutes relevant to public sector employees of the state of California.
These employees include those individuals, who are working directly for the state, in the state s public
educational institutions (schools and colleges), for the state s local public agencies (each county, city
and district), employees and interpreters of the state trial courts, those that fall under the In Home

fundamentals of my philosophy have stuck, such as teaching responsibility and life skills, being
approachable and creative as a teacher, and allowing the learning/teaching process to be interactive
and beneficial to all. Throughout my portfolio, I continue to stress the importance of students taking
notes and participating in lesson through discussion and other activities and assessments. These skills,
which my cooperating teacher is trying to help students develop in his class, are essential for their
survival in a high school environment and also useful in any work scenario when trying to learn a

expressed through my willingness to answer all questions and offer my assistance during any of their

How To Hack A Doll
This article is alarming and frightening to read about. Something as seemingly innocuous as a doll was
capable of being manipulated and hacked to gather sensitive, personal information. I think the scariest
part is that we don t know who hacked the dolls and if they did, what their intentions were for using
their dolls, specifically, as a medium. If it wasn t for this article, I would have never imagined that a
hacker would hack a doll because it isn t commonly heard of. Usually, in the news, I hear about cell
phones, webcams, laptops, and those sort of technological devices being hacked. Although I was
surprised to read this, I feel as if I shouldn t be because the reality is that anything can be the object of
exploitation and manipulation as long as there is intent behind it. In fact, this actually reminds me of
an article that I read a while back about a baby monitor being hacked. In a similar fashion, the hacker
interacted with the child in a disturbing way.
When I read this article, my first initial thought was that the Cayla dolls were being used as a tool or
decoy so that the hackers could directly come in contact with the children. I assume the hackers that

So, when the hacker talks to them through the doll, it causes them to associate the hacker with those
positive emotions, which essentially creates a sense of familiarity. Thus, when the child and hacker do

and companion, children usually share intimate thoughts, feelings, and etc. with them. This allows the
hacker to exploit and take advantage of the child s vulnerabilities either through blackmail or other
nefarious means. This was my theory behind it, but admittedly, that sounds quite far fetched looking

  • 3. My Lifetime Intrigue With Tattoos Essay Introduction My lifetime intrigue with tattoos has led me to research the history and culture surrounding tattooing. I have already collected several pieces, both small and large, on my body and am endlessly curious about the culture of body modification. The objective of my research is to discover the ancient history of body art, the social and cultural significances and stigmas of tattoos, as well as to discover the process of getting a custom tattoo. After defining my objectives and doing preliminary research, I have chosen to analyze and interpret the existing research about this subject through a conceptual framework. This framework indicates that tattooing is an ancient art form practiced around the world for many different reasons and has a diverse cultural and social significance in today s societies. This framework was chosen as a result of preliminary reading and analyzing existing research about the history and culture of tattooing. This existing research has shown that the practice of tattooing dates back to ancient civilizations, as well as the different perceptions of body art in current global societies, both negative and positive. My research will consist of three topics; ancient tattooing history, the recent history and the emergence of western practice, and the social and cultural significance and stigmas in global societies today. • 4. Analysis Of Cyrano De Bergerac By Edmond Rostand Edmond Rostand s Cyrano de Bergerac is considered to be a Chivalric Romance but it also contains humor throughout. The play uses comedy throughout all of the acts for a variety of reasons. Cyrano who is the main character of the play is also the largest comic influence. With Cyrano, we see him develop through comedy and learn more about his character with it, and it is not only used by Cyrano but also many other characters. Comedy is used in a variety of ways throughout Cyrano de Bergerac such as wordplay and sarcasm. The comedy is all used for different reasons, nevertheless, the humor in Cyrano plays an important role in the play. During the play Cyrano de Bergerac there are often very deep and depressing moments and to pick the audience up Edmund Rostand used humor. This is seen in all of the acts throughout the play and is one of the main uses of humor in the play. This is not the only use of humor in this play it is also used by Cyrano to hide his insecurities. Throughout the play, Cyrano makes fun of his own nose to make it seem like he is comfortable with it and so others can not make fun of it. Humor definitely plays an important role in Cyrano de Bergerac and through this essay, I will be examining the role of Humor in the play in depth. One of the most well known scenes in Cyrano De Bergerac is his monologue about his nose. He makes Jokes about his nose after being insulted about it by Valvert. The insult was not great and Cyrano improved on it with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Net Neutrality Video Analysis After reviewing the videos about net neutrality, and the pros and cons on the subject, I am a supporter of net neutrality and against priority internet access. The meaning behind net neutrality is essentially that no bit of information should be prioritized over another bit of information. The first video s analogy was comparing the big internet broadband companies, such as Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, as big trucks dominating over the other smaller internet sites which would be the smaller cars on the highway. Now since the FCC s new rule, those big companies will not be able to dominate the speeds of internet because they paid more money. • 7. Reassess The Food Service System Essay The aim of this proposal is to reassess the food service process in provided within a hospital. It is essential that the hospital s food service system requirements for all the nutrients and calories needed to restore and maintain the health of all patients. Implementing these changes will require a health care leader who will articulate well defined, clear objectives and measures and will incorporate a timeline and standards for the revised food service system (Dye, 2010). Food service in hospitals is changing by moving away from the traditional tray line system, in which trays move along an assembly line, to room service, thus allowing in patients to choose nutritious meals. The health care industry is ever more competitive, and hospitals are now recognizing patients as customers, and seeking ways to influence patients satisfaction scores during a hospital stay (K. Kim, M. Kim Lee 2010). In this proposal, the objectives of the value stream mapping in figure 1 are to strategically identify and remove waste, cut costs, reduce labor, and increase patient satisfaction scores, while providing nutritious meals. A Rapid Process Improvement Workshop (RPIW) will include staff from the call center, cooks, food prepares, dietitians, food delivery personnel, nursing managers, staff from finance, and administration, and customers who filled out a food survey to give their perspective. • 8. Becoming A Licensed Practical Nurse Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse Becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse is something I decided to wanted to do while working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. It is a very fulfilling experience. Caring for others is something that takes patience, hard work, sympathy, and education. Licensed Practical Nurses provide a number of services and have many duties. Most duties are supervised under a Register Nurse or a doctor. Some duties include measuring vital signs, maintaining patient records, dressing wounds, helping with personal hygiene just to name a few things. The duties of a LPN vary from state to state. There are many career options available for LPNs. Many LPNs start their careers in nursing homes for the elderly. This is because environments such as hospitals like to see long term care experience on a LPN s resume. Some LPNs do in home care services. This is when the LPN goes to the patient s home and takes care of what they need in the privacy of their own home. You ll find LPNs working in a hospital setting often as well doing many tasks and working in different departments. Doctor s offices have LPNs working for them as well. There are many different routes a LPN can go in their field. The daily routine for a LPN usually goes as follows. First, they make sure they get to work with enough time before their shift begins to go over the charts made by the previous LPN to catch up on what s been going on with the patients. • 10. Chemical Substances And Its Effects On The Skin Essay 1.0 INTRODUCTION Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms that contain one or more drug substances intended for topical application. (Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009) Pastes are also intended for application to oral cavity or mucous membranes besides the skin. Pastes are usually prepared from fats, fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing homogeneously powdered drug with the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for Pharmaceutical Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes and non greasy pastes which is made from single phase aqueous gel. Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having differences between paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes contain a high proportion of finely powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally composed of ointment bases that contain a high concentration (frequently 50%w/w) of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than that of pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft paraffin) or water soluble (glycerol or mucilage). (Prashant, 2010) Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often used for protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily do not flow at body temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. • 11. Security Issues Facing Elementary Schools The most substantial security issue facing elementary schools is the predictability of schedules. Students, faculty, and even maintenance staff generally have the same schedule every week if not every day. Therefore, if there were a potential attacker looking to launch an assault on a public school, it would be very easy for him or her to target a particular time and place in which most of the school s members would be. Additionally, if a perpetrator were looking for a specific individual, he or she could easily find that person since the schedules are fairly rigid. Middle and junior high schools face security issues relating to students wanting to cut class. When most students are in their middle school years, they get their first truly rebellious tendencies. As such, students may want to skip school and go places that are not safe and which may expose them to vulnerabilities. Additionally, such students may also attract the attention of outsiders and attempt to bring them back to campus, which would affect the security of the entire school. Many of the security threats that affect high schools are related to those that affect colleges and universities as well. One of these is that students may tend to engage in drugs and alcohol, which can affect their moods and create disagreeable, violent tendencies. Also, the concept of sacred cows applies in high schools. This term refers to the fact that certain students may believe that they are beyond reproach or privy to certain ... • 12. The Need for Policy Makers to Regulate Human Genetic... Human genetic engineering (HGE), a prevalent topic for scientists in research, is the process of manipulating genes in the human genome. Potentially, scientists can use the process of HGE to alter many biological and psychological human traits by gene modification. Currently, however, there is a large deficiency in information regarding HGE and its effects to the human body; creating a need for scientists to conduct more research and tests. Because of the many unknowns involving HGE it is necessary for policy makers to regulate HGE for the use by scientists. The first part of this paper will provide an overview of what HGE is and the processes involved with the technology of HGE. This paper will then analyze the potential risks associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gyngell s article analyzes the potential for HGE to increase the human life span, while providing a description of the process of HGE and predicting that HGE may eliminate disease via gene selection. Both of these articles provide credible and informative arguments that illustrate many different aspects of the potential impacts of HGE. HGE modifies the genomes of humans to produce a specific phenotype (a set of observable characteristics of an organism) or genotype (genetic constitution of an organism) that embodies desirable characteristics [1]. Therefore, HGE differs from archaic processes of selective breeding and artificial selection because it directly alters genes. The main focuses of HGE research are genes that code for immunity, cognitive abilities, and psychological mentality. The use of HGE in gametes and early development embryos is of particular interest to scientists because of its potential to grant them control over heritable traits. This ability can have great impact on the future of evolution because it provides humans with the control of the production of combinations of genes that would otherwise be unachievable. The potential for this level of control creates a need for regulation by policy makers, who have an obligation to consider the risks, and the benefits that coincide with the future of HGE. The development of more information and technology continues to increase the potential for scientists to manipulate complex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This epic poem was written for the purpose of warning Christians of the society he was in to repent and fear the wrath of hell or experience the rewards of paradise. It was most likely Dante s own experiences of love, politics and exile that inspired him to write so deeply. The Divine Comedy is a work of originality. Dante is an important figure for Italian literature and Western literature in general. The reason for that is his imagery brings the reader into his world and his senses. Dante provides an in depth analysis of Hell and all its dimensions, more than we would ever imagine. His imagery does not only enforce the reader to imagine the words but also to take the journey with him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dante s journey goes from Hell, to purgatory and finally to paradise, leaving the readers with a happy ending. Dante titled the epic poem The Divine Comedy but there is not a single joke in the book, quite the opposite. The comedy of his journey is that it ends on a good note instead of a bad. The most interesting aspect about Dante is, while he is on the journey though the nine circles of hell, he does not realize that he can still achieve salvation and be forgiven and he has the opportunity to enter paradise. Dante s imagery pulls the reader into all nine circles of hell. Also, Dante felt pity for most of the sinners but not all of them. His sympathy declines as the story goes on. He feels the least pity towards Simonists, those religious leaders that make a profit out of sacred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Structural Change Of The Inner City Job Market The drastic reduction of stable manufacturing work in American cities remains one of the biggest, if not the foremost, issue linked to poverty. The growth in blue collar factory, transportation and construction jobs that were traditionally held by men has dissipated for a variety of reasons, from Globalization to the rise in Illegal Immigration. This structural change in the inner city job market is of particular interest because of the amalgamation of both Economics and Poverty/Segregation issues. On the other hand, these men, primarily African American as will be discussed later, had almost no alternatives or any light at the end of the tunnel, considering the many obstacles in their path adapting to the changing world. The ethnic group affected most by this structural shift in job market is African Americans and played a significant part in the continuation of their high poverty levels. The Great Migration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries led to millions of Blacks moving North hoping for a better life and escaping the cruel post Civil war and Jim Crow environment in the South. Whilst today the Ghetto holds a negative connotation for some, it is important to note that Black intellectuals like Booker T. Washington were actually in favor of creating such ghettos early on. The short stories A Rose for Emily written by William Faulkner, The Black Cat written by Edgar Allen Poe, Prey written by Richard Matheson, The Feather Pillow , written by Horacio Quiroga and the novel The Night Circus written by Erin Morgenstern all represent several gothic elements. It was well known from the 1960 film, Psycho, the death of the beloved lead actress was inevitable from the start, but the bold move of how early it actually was has left many anticipating the return of the fifth season. The creation of such a mind boggling TV prequel to Hitchcock s 1960 hit film, Psycho, was well thought out through its grand acting performances from both lead actor and actress (Highmore and Farmiga), its artful directing taste, and its insanely insightful character development. There are a few questions that arise about how realistic it is and how the setting doesn t line up with the original movie. All in all, it is a thrilling, thought provoking show that lets the audience see how Norman Bates s personality disorder actually developed over time. Depending on the structure of the alcohol it may undergo SN1 or SN2. Primary alky halides undergo SN2 reactions. 1 bromobutane is a primary alkyl halide, and may be synthesized by the acid mediated reaction of a 1 butonaol with a bromide ion as a nucleophile. The proposed mechanism involves the initial formation of HBr in situ, the protonation of the alcohol by HBr, and the nucleophilic displacement by Br to give the 1 bromobutane. In the reaction once the salts are dissolved and the mixture is gently heated with a reflux a noticeable reaction occurs with the development of two layers. For example, the word cow has a higher frequency, because it utilized more often in everyday conversation, novels, magazine, newspaper, and academia than the word tungsten, which is less used (Davies, 2012). Andrews (1989) argued that based on this concept of WF, NS has an effect only with words that have a low WF. Genres are types or categories and genre films that are usually recognizable as part of a certain genre (Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014, section 4.1). When watching a fantasy film we know that within the movie we will expect to see unreal, magical, or impossible situations, characters or settings often overlapping with various other genres (GoodyKoontz, 2014). This was my theory behind it, but admittedly, that sounds quite far fetched looking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
