The Costs of Marijuana Prohibition Essay
The Costs of Marijuana Prohibition
The nation that we live in today proudly proclaims its perpetuation of freedom and democracy, and
with these qualities it conveys supreme justice. The United States government and its constitution are
regarded by many as the pinnacle of civil government, as the ultimate projection of civil justice.
However, no government is perfect, for man himself is inherently imperfect. For over two centuries
since its birth, The U.S. constitution, which many hold in such high esteem, has been continuously
molded to fit our ever changing society. Many of these changes have been good and necessary, while
others have caused unforeseen problems. Even in light of harm to society, however, the constitution

government and condoned by law officials and citizens alike.
Throughout this argument for marijuana legalization, the notion of justice will be repeatedly called
upon, and the justice of the current system and policy will be analyzed and disputed. In order for this
analysis to happen, justice itself must first be defined thoroughly and given precise parameters.
According to Webster s Dictionary, justice is the quality of being just, impartial, or fair, and
conformity to truth, fact, or reason. Justice from this point on will include the following: the logical
execution of law or standard based solely on proven facts or truth, and the existence of fairness and
equality throughout these actions.
The drug war that the U.S. government is waging is not limited to law enforcement crackdowns and
mandatory prison sentences. According to the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, declines in teen
drug use are preceded by a generally higher awareness of the harms of drugs (Torr 39). Obviously, the
perpetrators of the national anti drug campaign are alert to this fact, and they have put it to their use.
Recently the Office of National Drug Control Policy, or the ONDCP, has used the media, specifically
television, as a tool to flaunt anti drug propaganda to the American public. Television commercials
about the dangers of marijuana use have flooded T.V. networks. In fact, the ONDCP actually spent

Equity And Equality For Students
Equity and equality for students is all about enabling fairness and ensuring that all the students are
given the best possible chance to succeed in life irrespective of their identities or backgrounds
University of Birmingham (2015). In the course, we have learned that equity leads to success in
academic institutions and should therefore be encouraged. We have also learned that diversity is about
recognising, valuing and celebrating all the people from different backgrounds that live within our
societies. It is about creating a universal environment that is inclusive of these differences, where we
all feel welcome, valued and supported to succeed whatever our background or identity.
Equity and fair treatments in schools should however not be perceived to be about minority rights .
Rather, they should be viewed to cater for every situation in the learning environments and protects
every student from discrimination on the basis of their age, disability, pregnancy and maternity, race,
religion or belief, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, sex and sexual orientation. The miss
conception has led to standardization of academic programs and the achievements that the students are
expected to achieve, irrespective of their backgrounds and capabilities, which is actually counter
productive. The question is, Does equality and equity mean treating everybody the same? According
to University of Birmingham (2015), everyone should be treated fairly regardless of

Q.2 what is the relationship between sustainability and anthropogenic climate change, and how can an
understanding of these linkages be used to guide policy from the global to the local scale?
Ans. Sustainability is promoting social, economic growth with preserving the environment, whereas
the Anthropogenic Climate change is influencing natural and human living conditions. With an
increase in the risk of disaster which is turning to be a constrain in development and growth. The
anthropogenic generation of greenhouse gases (GHGS) is continuously making the temperature rise.
The energy use for industrial production and goods, services since last 200 years changed the
atmospheric conditions. The contents of greenhouse gases like CO2 (carbon dioxide), N2, O (nitrous
oxide), O3 (tropospheric ozone), CH4 (methane) (Trenberth, 1992), which is the main cause of natural
disaster like draught and flood which ultimately becomes a cause of economic loss. (Pachauri and

Dred Scott V. Sandford Civil Rights Case
Civil Rights For countless amounts of years, Americans have fought a battle against discrimination.
Discrimination goes all the way back to the time of slavery. There are several important civil rights
cases and laws that have changed the United States forever. Civil rights can be defined as, [t]he
freedom to participate in the full life of the community to vote, use public facilities, and exercise equal
opportunity (Morone and Kersh 115). Also, unlike civil liberties, which limits government action,
[c]ivil rights require government action to help secure individual rights... (Morone and Kersh 115).
The question is, what changed the people of the United States minds about political equality and how
did government action protect or hurt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin with, just because a law is a law, that does not immediately make it right. There are many
cases throughout history that this is evident. One example of this is prevalent in the case of Dred Scott
v. Sandford. Before this case, in 1820, the government made an agreement called the Missouri
Compromise, which drew a line through the Louisiana Territory... All new states and territories north
of the line except Missouri would be free; everything south of the line would be open to slavery
(Morone and Kersh 153). Well, when Dred Scott, a slave, sued for freedom his argument was ... he
had been taken to live in a free territory before returning to Missouri and that, as a result, he should be
free (Morone and Kersh 153). Although in my opinion his argument was valid, it was ruled that he
could not be set free due to the fact that neither the territories nor the federal government could
confine slavery. In this civil rights case, slavery was just reinforced and the government failed to
protect individuals. Soon after this case, President Abraham Lincoln is elected into office and he
completely changes the definition of freedom in America. Southern states were furious and started to
withdrawal from the States and the Civil War explodes. When the northern

Imagery In Pink Dog By Rio Di Janiero
Pink is not only a clothes color for well dressed individuals with exceptional taste in clothes or for
brave, courageous, stable, and smart men, it is also a color associated with sexuality and love; here,
however, it is associated with dogs and Rio di Janiero. In the poem Pink Dog by Elizabeth Bishop, the
speaker reveals her anxiousness of the flux of human life by presenting the metaphor of the pink dog.
The images of the Carnival, as a token of lavishness, symbolize ambiguity. The Carnival is a place of
no order and reversed rules. Extravagant celebration is paralleled with the abandonment of moral
principles and social hierarchy. The word carnival is associated with forsaking flesh and with the more
comprehensive, getting solace by taking flesh. It is, as tradition, the final celebration before the
restrained Lent. Elizabeth Bishop s Pink Dog reveals the speaker s anxiety towards the mercurial
world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Uae Society Culture
UAE Society amp; Culture The United Arab Emirates is home to a rich cultural heritage that has been
strongly influenced by its unique environment. The region s varied terrain, desert, oasis, mountains
and coast, dictated the traditional lifestyles that evolved over the centuries. A resilience and
resourcefulness necessary to survive in these harsh conditions was fostered by society s age old tribal
structure: each family was traditionally bound by obligations of mutual assistance to his immediate
relatives and to the tribe as a whole. Among the tribe an individual s selfless hospitality was the source
of his honour and pride. A common religion, Islam, also provided the cement that held society
together. The UAE s rich history is rooted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The UAE has undergone an extraordinary metamorphosis in the few short years since the state was
established. Today Emiratis of all ages have access to all the benefits of a modern, developed society.
But there is also an awareness that the history, culture, values and traditions of past generations are the
foundations on which the modern state is built. Both government and people are determined that their
heritage will be preserved, in line with the late Sheikh Zayed s belief that a people that knows not its
past can have neither a present nor a future . Local museums and traditional heritage centres
throughout the emirates help to introduce this heritage to younger generations and to visitors to the
country. At the same time, the UAE, capitalising on its strategic geographical position between East
and West and its open, tolerant perspective, is establishing a wide range of new museums and creative
centres, many of which are universal in nature. In addition to encouraging creativity in the community,
these new museums help to bridge cultures and advance dialogue between civilisations. The UAE s
history stretches back tens of thousands of years, with cultural objects and art that start with tools from
the Early Stone Age. Calligraphy is a traditional art, transforming Arabic words into works of art.
Today, artists explore what the modern UAE means to them. Other aspects of the UAE s heritage and
culture can be experienced in museums and heritage centres,

Summary Of Passing Nella Larsen
Nella larsen s passing disrupts the traditional conception of racial, ethnic and gender integrity. Larsens
has revolutionized the idea of acceptance of one s self identity.Larsen wrote this novel in the height of
the Harlem Renaissance . An era that is known for its growth and expanse in the artistic explosion that
happened in Harlem between the end of World War I and the middle of the 1930s. During this period
Harlem was a cultural center, drawing black writers, artists, poets, and educated people. Many had
come from the South, running away from its terrible mistreatment and social class system in order to
find a place where they could freely express their talents. It involved racial pride, fueled in part by the
aggressiveness of the New Negro demanding civil and political rights. The Renaissance incorporated
jazz and the blues, attracting whites to Harlem, where couples danced. While it may have ... Show

could refer to the change from life to death. Although the word passing could simply be referring to a

refers to a to cross an edge/border. While no significant suggestions of race or sexuality are given in

process that Nella Larsen is referring to in the title of her short book Passing. According to Webster,

War Measures Act Essay
Throughout history, the actions of governments have always been debated; however, occasionally
there are certain events which spark much controversy, both at the time of the event and by historians
today. One of these controversial acts was the invocation of the War Measures Act in 1970, an act
which suspended the civil liberties of Canadian citizens. In October 1970, in what became known as
the October Crisis, the Front de libération du Québec, (commonly known as the FLQ) which was a
French Canadian organization advocating independence from Canada, kidnapped two politicians. This
initiated a series of events, one of which was the invocation of the War Measures Act by Prime
Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Many historians argue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1970, Bourassa finally comes back to Quebec from his a trip in New York, which he deemed as more
significant than the crisis in Quebec. Later that evening, two FLQ members kidnapped Pierre Laporte,
the Quebec Minister of Labour. Five days later after still refusing to meet the FLQ demands, Trudeau
calls upon the War Measures Act. Under the regulations of the Act, which dated back to World War
One, Trudeau s government suspended the civil liberties of Canadian citizens, and were able to arrest
and detain anyone suspected of belonging to the FLQ, or even supporting the FLQ. The body of Pierre
Laporte was discovered in the trunk of a car three days later, in what was believed to have been
retaliation for the War Measures Act, as the murder itself occurred one to two days after the Act was
invoked. On December 3rd, 2007 the FLQ kidnappers released James Cross in exchange for safe

Meaning of Ahimsa Essay
Meaning of Ahimsa Ahimsa is a Sanskrit term that translates roughly into non injury to living beings
or dynamic harmlessness. Ahimsa tends to evoke images of monks wearing cloths over their faces to
avoid breathing microscopic beings and sweeping the insects off the path in front of them as they walk
so they won t accidentally crush one under their feet. One cannot easily live in today s world without
causing some harm to other beings but that does not mean we shouldn t try to keep it to a minimum.

There is no power greater than Ahimsa. The practice of Ahimsa develops will power to a considerable
degree. The practice of Ahimsa will make you fearless. He, who practices Ahimsa with real faith, can

Analysis Of Mrs Warrens Profession
The play Mrs. Warrens Profession by George Bernard Shaw is about a well educated young woman
named Vivie who lives just outside of London. She was raised in a drastically different manner than
her mother. Vivie in fact did not know her mother very well and even grew up away at prestigious
schools away from her mother s care. Vivie was well educated, has a degree in math, and plans to get
a job in London. The play is centered on the discussion between Vivie and Mrs. Warren about the
morality about Mrs. Warren s profession as a sex worker. Although the play is called Mrs. Warrens
profession, the play is mostly about the ways that Vivie s interactions with her mother change her. The
play opens with Vivie sitting on her porch and being informed that her mother is coming from London
to visit her. Vivie s upbringing was different from her mother in such a drastic way and it calls into
question the morality of the decisions that Mrs. Warren made in her earlier years. Mrs. Warren had to
make a decision in her earlier years that was morally wrong for most but she made it because her
morals were outweighed by the circumstances in which she was in. Shaw was known to be interested
in socialism and would write his works to reflect the views he wished to push into society. The play
Mrs. Warrens Profession has many tones of morality involved in the text. The discussions and
decisions of the characters in the play are all about the morality based on each individual s

Diet is essential to having a healthy lifestyle. The body needs key nutrients from different foods to
help the body function properly. Fried food is very unhealth due to the high calorie content and fried
foods have very few nutritional value. If frying foods cannot be balanced it can be detrimental to one s
health. Not only does fried foods have physical effects on the body, it also can cause mental effects
according to The British Journal of Psychiatry (Akbaraly, et al., 2009). They found that, processed
food dietary pattern is a risk factor for CES D depression (Akbaraly, et al., 2009). The short term
benefit of eliminating fried foods and process food can help reduce the chances of depression. In
addition, studies show that fried foods are linked to laryngeal cancer according to Cancer research in

Google s PageRank
Introduction
Google is the most popular search engine used everywhere in the world. The significance of the
internet in globalization and digitalization of the business industry has seen Google search engine
become the most significant utility. To critically understand how Google operates its search service to
the excellent service provision platform it is, this analytical report will explore Google PageRank as
the building block of the search engine. By definition, PageRank (PR) is an algorithm that establishes
a ranking order for search results. The main objective of this report is to learn the basics of web
searching as well as the page rank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another factor that makes this algorithm important is how companies can potentially use it to improve
their marketing processes. Basically, an understanding of how the Google search engine ranks
websites and how this ranking system impacts the outcome of search results is essential to
strategically positioning websites for greater audience. In other words, companies strive at best to
maximize their PageRank score as a strategy for marketing itself. According to Amy and Carl (2004),
PageRank has numerous connections to areas of mathematics and computer science including matrix
theory, numerical analysis, information retrieval and graph theory. The mathematical context of this
concept is that PageRank score of a webpage masks the probability that a random web surfer will
choose to view a specific webpage. This analysis therefore sets out to explore the application of
mathematical concepts in the functionality of the algorithm through examples. In general, a PageRank
is a numerical value that represents the significance of a webpage in the internet in relation to a
specific search.
PageRank Algorithm
Following the initial conceptualization of the PageRank algorithm by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the
PageRank algorithm can be represented as;

Gandhi Vs. Greek Heroes
The definition of heroes has been evolved variously through the ages. Greeks defined heroes as brave,
strong men or demigods who accomplished great quests during their lives. People nowadays may
define heroes as people who are changing the world to become a better place. A hero is someone who
has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.1 Both Greek heroes and modern day heroes
complete tasks which are nearly impossible for a normal human. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who
was the leader of activists in getting India independence from Britain, is a great hero to many people.
Although Gandhi and Greek heroes have many similar and different aspects about being a hero, there
are great reasons what make Gandhi superior.
Both Gandhi and Greek heroes have great perseverance and endurance to achieve their goals. Gandhi
was imprisoned many times in his life, but he never gave up, and tried his best to achieve India
Independence and peace. One of his great efforts is The Salt Satyagraha which he marched 200 miles
which was accompanied by thousands of people because the British imposed a tax on salt and made it
illegal for Indians to produce from sea water.2 Greek heroes also had great perseverance in completing
their quests. Jason, for example, complete a quest to get the Golden Fleece by enduring all difficulties
and dangers and Heracles also completed his twelve labors because of his great perseverance and
effort. Therefore, perseverance and hard work are important

artists to lavishly restore Rome in the hope that Rome would become the most beautiful city that

Her father was a painter named Orazio Gentileschi, who taught her how to draw and paint. Influenced
by Caravaggio s work, Gentileschi also used chiaroscuro in her work and created beautifully dramatic
pieces. Like
Caravaggio, she also was able to depict a moment of elevated drama in her work and was totally
capable of emphasizing it. In the time that she lived, women generally were not painters; very few
women even attempted it, but Gentileschi was the first woman to actually become a member of the
prestigious Accademia di Arte Disegno in Florence, Italy and to paint important historical and
religious paintings that were actually
praised and viewed as an integral part of the artistic movement.
Both Gentileschi and Caravaggio painted unconventional religious subjects; two paintings of similar
themes are Caravaggio s David with the
Head of Goliath, (c.1610), and Gentileschi s Judith and Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes (c.
1625). Both paintings evoke drama and use the technique of chiaroscuro to add effective intensity to
the story of their paintings, which entail the heroic and rather gruesome removal of someone s head.
The subject of Gentileschi s painting comes from the
Book of Judith and relates the story of Holofernes who attacked the
Jewish people of Bethulia; Judith, who was a beautiful Hebrew widow that may have been raped by
Holoferenes, entered Holofernes s camp and beheaded him while he was

Militarism, Nationalism, And The Start Of The Alliance System
Militarism, nationalism, and the start of the alliance system between the great powers of the world in
the beginning of the 20th century caused an enormous conflict that shortly after turned to the First
World War. In late June 1914, Gavrilo Princip a Serbian nationalist assassinated Archduke Franz
Ferdinand of Austria which shortly after caused the beginning of the greatest and bloodiest war in
history. The war was fought on different theaters by the world s greatest empires at that time. The
allies composed of the British and the French empires joined forces with mighty Russia against the
Central powers composed of Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. In 1917, three years
after the war broke out, the Allies were joined by the United States which forced a quick defeat of the
Central Powers. The introduction of new weapon technology and trench warfare caused an
unimaginable amounts of destruction and deaths all over the content of Europe where most of the
fighting took place. By the time the Great War had ended in 1918, more than 9 million soldiers had
been killed and 21 million more injured. Many historians of the 20th Century blame the generals of
the Great War for the massive death toll, they lacked the ability to adapt to the new warfare tactics and
the horrifying modern weaponry. The Germans and their allies began fighting in World War I on two
fronts, invading Belgium in the west in order to attack France and defending all of the Russian attacks

The Impact Of Sports On College From A Professional And...
Introduction
In this paper, I will discuss the history of the development of athletics in higher education tracing roots
from England through modern day sports. I will also discuss some of the issues of sports in higher
education face and discuss some of the actions that have been taken to pacify these issues. Finally, I
will conclude this with a brief synopsis of the benefits of sports in college from a professional and non
professional activity standpoint. (FPO)
Historical Development
General History
English universities were enclosed with a structure similar to what we know as prisons today.
Universities were gated communities as a means of deterring students from engaging with the
commoners. Within these campuses, students were provided with activities that would allow for the
exhaustion of energy and physical fitness (Delbanco, 2014).(P38)
U.S. History
Early in the United States higher education system, sports were regarded as a waste of time, as
emphasis was placed on academic rigor. Since most of the American higher education system was
based on the structure of English universities, students were to take on a likeness of their professors as
further explained, an important part was...to witness social and intellectual exchange among their
superiors, in hope that they would aspire someday to be worthy of sitting among them (Delbanco,
2014, P.38). Because of this thought, and American s desire for higher achievement than the English
schools, early United States

In 2001 there was a movie released called Black Hawk Down. This movie was based on a true story of
the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. This battle takes place in Somalia. The movie depicts this battle
pretty accurately from who died and the mistake that were made in the mission plan. The operation
was supposed to be easy and go smoothly but like most plans things didn t go as they planned. If there
wasn t any mistakes made during this operation then there wouldn t have been a movie made after it.
The movie got its title because during the operation there were two black hawk helicopter shot down
and most of the time the soldiers were trying to get to the wreckage. The name of this operation was
called Operation Gothic Serpent. This battle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the overran crash site there were two Delta force snipers who volunteered to go there and hold off
until the help came. There was only one survivor of this crash and that was the pilot and he survived
the mob that came to the crash site. The two snipers who were protecting him died from the mob but
the pilot Michael Durant was captured by the mob and taken prisoner. He was later released after the
battle. There were a few armies in on this battle. On the UN side there was United States, Pakistan,
and Malaysia. On the Somalia side there was al Qaeda. The strength of the UN over powered the
Somalian power because the UN had 8 Black Hawk helicopters and 8 Little Bird helicopters. They
also had 12 vehicles to use. Now Somalia outnumbered the UN forces. Somalia had 4,000 6,000
soldiers and the UN had about 160 soldiers from various elite units. There was much causality in this
battle. The U.S. had 18 killed, 73 wounded, and 1 captured. Malaysia had 1 killed and 7 wounded.
Pakistan had 1 killed and 2 wounded. Now the SNA militia states it only had a range of 315 to 500
causalities while the U.S. states they had around 1,500 to 3,000 causalities in the battle. There was up
to 700 killed, 1,500 wounded, and 21 captured. The leaders of this during these battles for the U.S.
were William F. Garrison and for Somalia it was Mohamed Farrah Aidid. William F. Garrison wanted
to capture or just get rid of Mohamed Farrah Aidid but the operation didn t go as smoothly

The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film,...
The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, Spiderman 2, was hailed as a landmark
film that illustrated the unfamiliar concept of a hero with an underlying humanity. Throughout the
film, Peter Parker demonstrates a remarkable, organic character that makes him and his alter ego,
Spiderman, accessible to a wide audience, allowing various age groups to easily identify and connect
with him. This action packed clip is no exception to the fundamental theme of the sequel to the 2002
film, Spiderman. Despite a tight story space, the clip has been one of the enduring hallmarks of the
film. Through enrapturing cinematographic techniques, dynamic secondary characters, and a reflective
artistic context, Spiderman Stops the Train has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Distinctively, an intriguing aspect of the clip lies in the fact that the protagonist does not undergo
much personal transformation, thus indicating the static and rather flat nature of the character.
Throughout the clip, Spiderman is simply portrayed as a hero attempting to perform his duty; he will
either save the train or fail to do so. In contrast, throughout the entire length of the clip, the secondary
characters the passengers undergo a rather radical transformation from being fearful, skeptical, and
mocking to a fiercely loyal and trusting group. These facets may be inferred from the only person
Spiderman directly communicates with during the entire ordeal: the train operator. Quite possibly, his
initial fear in the statement, Oh my God, this is it! reflects all of the passengers perspectives of their
present situation. When Spiderman initially fails to reduce the train s speed, this fear turns into
mocking skepticism as stated by the old man and is indicative of the group s thoughts: Any more
bright ideas? However, one can observe that the unbelieving operator is one of the first people to
prevent Peter Parker from falling into the city street below, an indication of a character change. The
gratefulness and trust that the passengers expressed can by observed by their symbolic gesture of
bearing the comatose hero on their arms in solemn jubilation and respectful silence. Perhaps their trust
and loyalty may be most evident when,

Evaluation Model did the training achieve the desired results? Why or why not?
Results from the case study information indicate that the Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
program achieved the goal of increasing the likelihood that attendees would contact a manager and/or
human resources if sexually harassed. The training program also achieved the goal of decreasing the
likelihood that trainees would ignore sexually harassing behavior (Moskowitz, 2008). 4. Where any
unexpected questions raised from this training? If so which questions? If not, why do you think the
results were expected?
Yes. In this case study, or evaluation process, we found that the trainees would rather confront the
harassers face to face as a first line of defense rather than seeking help elsewhere. 5. Which levels of

5.11, 5.69 (NetMBA, 2010.)
Profitability Ratios The profitability ratio shows the ability for a company to generate profits. Ratios
that are used calculating profitability of a company are return on assets and return on equity. The
return on assets calculates the ability of a company to effectively use assets to generate income, the
percentages per quarter in year one are; 76%, 22%, 34%, 37%. This shows profit during each quarter.
In years two, three, and four the percentages are; 68%, 54%, 49%, 38%. These ratios show a slight
decline but still a solid profit. The return on equity shows the amount of money earned per dollar
investing into the company by shareholders. By quarter, year one return on equity is .81 .61 .28 .29,
years two, three and four are all .32. These numbers show an above average return, the average return
in the United States is between .10 .15, and over .20 is considered above average (Kennon, 2011.)
Solvency Ratio The solvency ratio is the ability for a company to repay debts shown in a percentage.
The ratio shows if a business can meet goals of a long term loan by calculating the current and long
term liabilities divided by net profit after taxes plus depreciation. In years one through four the

I don t think that I need to have an extensive sales force in order to be successful. I think the biggest
decision that I made in 2015 Q2 was increasing the large customer discounts for segments B and D
from 12% discount up to 14% discount. I noticed that last quarter both of these segments expressed
their concern that they were not getting the additional discounts that they should for being such long
time customers. The results of my decisions that were made in 2015 Q2 turned out to be better than
last quarter results. Existing customers increased by 9% and sales from new customers increased by
6%, while the distributors, on average, are attempting to achieve a 5% profit margin; overall not a bad
turnover from prior quarters. These decisions led to segment A as being very satisfied reflecting how
the motors high power to size ratio allowed them to pick up some new business from some loyal
customers. Segment B was satisfied in this quarter like they have been in previous quarters, however
they expressed their concern on future orders that they would like to receive more insight into the
market trends by our staff. Segment C increased their overall satisfaction from prior quarters of being
satisfied to very satisfied in this quarter. By getting the motors that they ordered to them in a rush,

Oppression Of Indigenous People
Indigenous people are the people who were on the land first, before settlers came and took it away. In
this case, Americans are the settlers, and we took the Indian s land away. We didn t gently take their
land away, we pulled the rug out from under them and stole basically all of it. We took their land by
force so that we could use it for our own benefit. In result of their land being taken away, the Indians
had to move. The indians had to move to from the land that they called their own. They had to move
to cramped, small, dirty, mold filled, unnourished lands called reservations. Including their land we
also took their culture, so to speak. We made it seem like they shouldn t embrace their culture, that
doing that isn t normal .
Throughout our class readings we have come across many themes. They include the oppression and
disrespect of indigenous people. Americans have severely oppressed Indians, mostly through the
stealing of their land. Americans then force Indians to live in a place that few people would even dare
to go. Unemployment on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation fluctuates between 85 and 90 percent and
The life expectancy for men is between 46 and 48 years old. (Huey 2) The land is in poverty, to be
specific, more than 90 percent of the population lives below the federal poverty line. Indians do not
treat land like Americans do, There was a time when our people covered the land as the waves of a
wind ruffled sea cover its shell paved floor, but that time

Artificial Insemination In Mares
Artificial Insemination in mares has been around for quite some time. Some of the first Artificial
Insemination programs for horses were set up at the end of the 19th century. AI practices have been
around much longer than that, since it is used in other animal species. Artificial insemination programs
for equine animals aren t as advanced because it wasn t such a high priority to people back in the day
to AI their horse, they would just naturally breed them. It also wasn t such a high priority because
people didn t need horses like they used to back in the day. People used horses for plowing the fields,

If you apply too much pressure and puncture a hole through the reproductive tract and into the rectum
it can have serious consequences and can even be fatal to the mare. There is also an increased chance
of spreading disease if the semen isn t screened properly. Some of the most common diseases that are
passed on through semen are Contagious Equine Metritis, Equine Viral Arteritis, and Equine Infection
Anemia. These viruses are transported in the semen and can survive both chilling and freezing so any
imported semen has to undergo strict screening tests and documentation. The effects of these diseases
can be devastating to the horse population. Even though there are problems and risks associated with
artificial insemination in horses there are also benefits to it too and ways that you can mitigate the
risks. If the procedure is preformed in a vet clinic the stocks can be used to safely position the mare
for scanning and inseminating, as well as vets know how to do the procedure to that if the horse move
there is less of a risk of damaging anything. Mares can also be sedated to do the procedure if its done
on a farm where there are no stocks present. This will be more costly however because you have to
give the mare drugs to sedate her. another advantage to using AI is if you have a stallion that is

The glycemic control: several studies showed that intensive glycemic therapy can result in a

Although many studies suggest the similarity in the effectiveness of these agents, only Pregabalin and
duloxetine have approved for the treatment of neuropathic pain in diabetic patients by the U.S. Food
and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada, and the European Medicines Agency. (Pop Busui
Rodica, et al 2017)
Also, the tapentadol, which is a novel centrally acting opioid has regulatory approval in the U.S. and
Canada, but the evidence of its effectiveness in reducing neuropathic pain is weaker (Finnerup NB, et
al 2015). Therefore, due to the high risk for addiction and safety concerns vs the relatively modest
pain reduction, the use of tapentadol extended release is not suggested as first or second line drug.
(Pop Busui Rodica, et al 2017)
In the United Kingdom, NICE clinical guidelines recommend duloxetine as the first line treatment for
patients with DPN. If contra indicated, this drug may be replaced with amitriptyline. Second line
treatment consists of amitriptyline or pregabalin. The latter agent may be used alone or in combination
with either amitriptyline or duloxetine. If

Climate change, specifically in reference to C02 Emissions released by human use of fossil fuels and
their consequential effects on the environment, is perhaps one of the most pressing issues we, not just

97% of climate scientists agree that such increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration are
man made (Global Climate Change: Consensus). Why then is it that the news media treats such widely
held views by experts as debate rather than consensus? The answer may lie in the media s current and
skewed standards of what constitutes objectivity and balance .
It can be said that the mainstream American news media holds objective reporting in a high regard,
and rightfully so. Such a journalistic culture finds its roots in the Fairness Doctrine, a policy
implemented by the Federal Communications Commission in 1949(Boliek) in response to muckraking
and irresponsible journalistic practices of prior times. The Fairness Doctrine mandated that news
organizations provide contrasting views of controversial issues in an equal manner. Though the
Fairness Doctrine was repealed in 1987, and its official language removed in 2011, the effects of this
policy still seem to play a significant role in the mainstream media (Boliek). It can be argued that the
residual effects of this policy have mutated into a heavy emphasis on fairness and balance (in some
cases, and in other cases not as much) that has made many journalists lose their focus on what
objectivity actually means.

  • 2. The Costs of Marijuana Prohibition Essay The Costs of Marijuana Prohibition The nation that we live in today proudly proclaims its perpetuation of freedom and democracy, and with these qualities it conveys supreme justice. The United States government and its constitution are regarded by many as the pinnacle of civil government, as the ultimate projection of civil justice. However, no government is perfect, for man himself is inherently imperfect. For over two centuries since its birth, The U.S. constitution, which many hold in such high esteem, has been continuously molded to fit our ever changing society. Many of these changes have been good and necessary, while others have caused unforeseen problems. Even in light of harm to society, however, the constitution and its ... Throughout this argument for marijuana legalization, the notion of justice will be repeatedly called upon, and the justice of the current system and policy will be analyzed and disputed. In order for this analysis to happen, justice itself must first be defined thoroughly and given precise parameters. According to Webster s Dictionary, justice is the quality of being just, impartial, or fair, and conformity to truth, fact, or reason. Justice from this point on will include the following: the logical execution of law or standard based solely on proven facts or truth, and the existence of fairness and equality throughout these actions. The drug war that the U.S. government is waging is not limited to law enforcement crackdowns and mandatory prison sentences. According to the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, declines in teen drug use are preceded by a generally higher awareness of the harms of drugs (Torr 39). Obviously, the perpetrators of the national anti drug campaign are alert to this fact, and they have put it to their use. Recently the Office of National Drug Control Policy, or the ONDCP, has used the media, specifically television, as a tool to flaunt anti drug propaganda to the American public. Television commercials about the dangers of marijuana use have flooded T.V. networks. In fact, the ONDCP actually spent $3.2 million on two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Equity And Equality For Students Equity and equality for students is all about enabling fairness and ensuring that all the students are given the best possible chance to succeed in life irrespective of their identities or backgrounds University of Birmingham (2015). In the course, we have learned that equity leads to success in academic institutions and should therefore be encouraged. We have also learned that diversity is about recognising, valuing and celebrating all the people from different backgrounds that live within our societies. It is about creating a universal environment that is inclusive of these differences, where we all feel welcome, valued and supported to succeed whatever our background or identity. Equity and fair treatments in schools should however not be perceived to be about minority rights . Rather, they should be viewed to cater for every situation in the learning environments and protects every student from discrimination on the basis of their age, disability, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, sex and sexual orientation. The miss conception has led to standardization of academic programs and the achievements that the students are expected to achieve, irrespective of their backgrounds and capabilities, which is actually counter productive. The question is, Does equality and equity mean treating everybody the same? According to University of Birmingham (2015), everyone should be treated fairly regardless of ... • 7. Dred Scott V. Sandford Civil Rights Case Civil Rights For countless amounts of years, Americans have fought a battle against discrimination. Discrimination goes all the way back to the time of slavery. There are several important civil rights cases and laws that have changed the United States forever. Civil rights can be defined as, [t]he freedom to participate in the full life of the community to vote, use public facilities, and exercise equal opportunity (Morone and Kersh 115). Also, unlike civil liberties, which limits government action, [c]ivil rights require government action to help secure individual rights... (Morone and Kersh 115). To begin with, just because a law is a law, that does not immediately make it right. There are many cases throughout history that this is evident. One example of this is prevalent in the case of Dred Scott v. Sandford. Before this case, in 1820, the government made an agreement called the Missouri Compromise, which drew a line through the Louisiana Territory... All new states and territories north of the line except Missouri would be free; everything south of the line would be open to slavery (Morone and Kersh 153). Well, when Dred Scott, a slave, sued for freedom his argument was ... he had been taken to live in a free territory before returning to Missouri and that, as a result, he should be free (Morone and Kersh 153). Although in my opinion his argument was valid, it was ruled that he could not be set free due to the fact that neither the territories nor the federal government could confine slavery. In this civil rights case, slavery was just reinforced and the government failed to protect individuals. Soon after this case, President Abraham Lincoln is elected into office and he completely changes the definition of freedom in America. Southern states were furious and started to withdrawal from the States and the Civil War explodes. When the northern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imagery In Pink Dog By Rio Di Janiero Pink is not only a clothes color for well dressed individuals with exceptional taste in clothes or for brave, courageous, stable, and smart men, it is also a color associated with sexuality and love; here, however, it is associated with dogs and Rio di Janiero. In the poem Pink Dog by Elizabeth Bishop, the speaker reveals her anxiousness of the flux of human life by presenting the metaphor of the pink dog. The images of the Carnival, as a token of lavishness, symbolize ambiguity. The Carnival is a place of no order and reversed rules. Extravagant celebration is paralleled with the abandonment of moral principles and social hierarchy. The word carnival is associated with forsaking flesh and with the more comprehensive, getting solace by taking flesh. It is, as tradition, the final celebration before the restrained Lent. The region s varied terrain, desert, oasis, mountains and coast, dictated the traditional lifestyles that evolved over the centuries. A resilience and resourcefulness necessary to survive in these harsh conditions was fostered by society s age old tribal structure: each family was traditionally bound by obligations of mutual assistance to his immediate relatives and to the tribe as a whole. Among the tribe an individual s selfless hospitality was the source of his honour and pride. A common religion, Islam, also provided the cement that held society together. Today Emiratis of all ages have access to all the benefits of a modern, developed society. But there is also an awareness that the history, culture, values and traditions of past generations are the foundations on which the modern state is built. Both government and people are determined that their heritage will be preserved, in line with the late Sheikh Zayed s belief that a people that knows not its past can have neither a present nor a future . Local museums and traditional heritage centres throughout the emirates help to introduce this heritage to younger generations and to visitors to the country. At the same time, the UAE, capitalising on its strategic geographical position between East and West and its open, tolerant perspective, is establishing a wide range of new museums and creative centres, many of which are universal in nature. In addition to encouraging creativity in the community, these new museums help to bridge cultures and advance dialogue between civilisations. The UAE s history stretches back tens of thousands of years, with cultural objects and art that start with tools from the Early Stone Age. An era that is known for its growth and expanse in the artistic explosion that happened in Harlem between the end of World War I and the middle of the 1930s. During this period Harlem was a cultural center, drawing black writers, artists, poets, and educated people. Many had come from the South, running away from its terrible mistreatment and social class system in order to find a place where they could freely express their talents. It involved racial pride, fueled in part by the aggressiveness of the New Negro demanding civil and political rights. War Measures Act Essay Throughout history, the actions of governments have always been debated; however, occasionally there are certain events which spark much controversy, both at the time of the event and by historians today. One of these controversial acts was the invocation of the War Measures Act in 1970, an act which suspended the civil liberties of Canadian citizens. In October 1970, in what became known as the October Crisis, the Front de libération du Québec, (commonly known as the FLQ) which was a French Canadian organization advocating independence from Canada, kidnapped two politicians. Under the regulations of the Act, which dated back to World War One, Trudeau s government suspended the civil liberties of Canadian citizens, and were able to arrest and detain anyone suspected of belonging to the FLQ, or even supporting the FLQ. The body of Pierre Laporte was discovered in the trunk of a car three days later, in what was believed to have been retaliation for the War Measures Act, as the murder itself occurred one to two days after the Act was invoked. She was raised in a drastically different manner than her mother. Vivie in fact did not know her mother very well and even grew up away at prestigious schools away from her mother s care. Vivie was well educated, has a degree in math, and plans to get a job in London. The play is centered on the discussion between Vivie and Mrs. Warren about the morality about Mrs. Warren s profession as a sex worker. Although the play is called Mrs. Warrens profession, the play is mostly about the ways that Vivie s interactions with her mother change her. The play opens with Vivie sitting on her porch and being informed that her mother is coming from London to visit her. Vivie s upbringing was different from her mother in such a drastic way and it calls into question the morality of the decisions that Mrs. Warren made in her earlier years. Mrs. Warren had to make a decision in her earlier years that was morally wrong for most but she made it because her morals were outweighed by the circumstances in which she was in. Shaw was known to be interested in socialism and would write his works to reflect the views he wished to push into society. Greeks defined heroes as brave, strong men or demigods who accomplished great quests during their lives. People nowadays may define heroes as people who are changing the world to become a better place. A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.1 Both Greek heroes and modern day heroes complete tasks which are nearly impossible for a normal human. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who was the leader of activists in getting India independence from Britain, is a great hero to many people. Although Gandhi and Greek heroes have many similar and different aspects about being a hero, there are great reasons what make Gandhi superior. Gandhi was imprisoned many times in his life, but he never gave up, and tried his best to achieve India Independence and peace. One of his great efforts is The Salt Satyagraha which he marched 200 miles which was accompanied by thousands of people because the British imposed a tax on salt and made it illegal for Indians to produce from sea water.2 Greek heroes also had great perseverance in completing their quests. In the time that she lived, women generally were not painters; very few women even attempted it, but Gentileschi was the first woman to actually become a member of the prestigious Accademia di Arte Disegno in Florence, Italy and to paint important historical and religious paintings that were actually praised and viewed as an integral part of the artistic movement. (Huey 2) The land is in poverty, to be specific, more than 90 percent of the population lives below the federal poverty line. Indians do not treat land like Americans do, There was a time when our people covered the land as the waves of a wind ruffled sea cover its shell paved floor, but that time ... • 30. Artificial Insemination In Mares Artificial Insemination in mares has been around for quite some time. Some of the first Artificial Insemination programs for horses were set up at the end of the 19th century. AI practices have been around much longer than that, since it is used in other animal species. Artificial insemination programs for equine animals aren t as advanced because it wasn t such a high priority to people back in the day to AI their horse, they would just naturally breed them. It also wasn t such a high priority because people didn t need horses like they used to back in the day. People used horses for plowing the fields, pulling farm equipment and plenty of other jobs around the farm but when the tractor and truck became something affordable for all farmers ... If you apply too much pressure and puncture a hole through the reproductive tract and into the rectum it can have serious consequences and can even be fatal to the mare. There is also an increased chance of spreading disease if the semen isn t screened properly. Some of the most common diseases that are passed on through semen are Contagious Equine Metritis, Equine Viral Arteritis, and Equine Infection Anemia. These viruses are transported in the semen and can survive both chilling and freezing so any imported semen has to undergo strict screening tests and documentation. The effects of these diseases can be devastating to the horse population. Even though there are problems and risks associated with artificial insemination in horses there are also benefits to it too and ways that you can mitigate the risks. If the procedure is preformed in a vet clinic the stocks can be used to safely position the mare for scanning and inseminating, as well as vets know how to do the procedure to that if the horse move there is less of a risk of damaging anything. Mares can also be sedated to do the procedure if its done on a farm where there are no stocks present. This will be more costly however because you have to give the mare drugs to sedate her. another advantage to using AI is if you have a stallion that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. DPN Case Study Management Management of DPN can be classified into two strategies: Etiopathogenetic treatments which target the underlying causes to prevent any further nerve fiber damage and pharmacological treatments to alleviate the painful symptoms of PDN and normalize physical and psychological functioning. Etiopathogenic treatment: The glycemic control: several studies showed that intensive glycemic therapy can result in a statistically insignificant reduction in the development of neuropathy. (Callaghan BC, et al 2012) Support for a positive effect of intensive treatment comes from the United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) Group (1998) which revealed a statistically significant decrease in the risk of DPN with intensive ... (Singh R, et al 2014) Although many studies suggest the similarity in the effectiveness of these agents, only Pregabalin and duloxetine have approved for the treatment of neuropathic pain in diabetic patients by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada, and the European Medicines Agency. (Pop Busui Rodica, et al 2017) Also, the tapentadol, which is a novel centrally acting opioid has regulatory approval in the U.S. and Canada, but the evidence of its effectiveness in reducing neuropathic pain is weaker (Finnerup NB, et al 2015). Therefore, due to the high risk for addiction and safety concerns vs the relatively modest pain reduction, the use of tapentadol extended release is not suggested as first or second line drug. (Pop Busui Rodica, et al 2017) In the United Kingdom, NICE clinical guidelines recommend duloxetine as the first line treatment for patients with DPN. If contra indicated, this drug may be replaced with amitriptyline. Second line treatment consists of amitriptyline or pregabalin. The latter agent may be used alone or in combination with either amitriptyline or duloxetine. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Reflection On Transitioning To Emory University Transitioning to Emory University as a first generation student from a low socioeconomic background accustomed to being surround by peers from similar backgrounds and of the same race was a whirlwind. I remember constantly questioning whether or not I had made the right decision by coming to an elite university and wondering if I would ever be able to call Emory my home. The academic transition was no easier. I had never encountered such challenging classwork and learned rather quickly that I would have to work twice as hard in order to keep up. Like many other first semester freshmen, I enrolled in General Chemistry in order to get a start on completing the list of pre medical requirements. After an extremely challenging semester, full ... • 33. Climate Change Denial and the Media The pace of global warming is accelerating and the scale of the impact is devastating. The time for action is limited we are approaching a tipping point beyond which the opportunity to reverse the damage of CO2 emissions will disappear. Eliot Spitzer Global warming isn t a prediction. It is happening. James Hansen Climate change, specifically in reference to C02 Emissions released by human use of fossil fuels and their consequential effects on the environment, is perhaps one of the most pressing issues we, not just as Americans, but as human beings face in our lifetimes. Though it may sound like a sensationalist statement the facts are hard to deny. In May of 2013, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 97% of climate scientists agree that such increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration are man made (Global Climate Change: Consensus). Why then is it that the news media treats such widely held views by experts as debate rather than consensus? The answer may lie in the media s current and skewed standards of what constitutes objectivity and balance . It can be said that the mainstream American news media holds objective reporting in a high regard, and rightfully so. Such a journalistic culture finds its roots in the Fairness Doctrine, a policy implemented by the Federal Communications Commission in 1949(Boliek) in response to muckraking and irresponsible journalistic practices of prior times. The Fairness Doctrine mandated that news organizations provide contrasting views of controversial issues in an equal manner. Though the Fairness Doctrine was repealed in 1987, and its official language removed in 2011, the effects of this policy still seem to play a significant role in the mainstream media (Boliek). It can be argued that the residual effects of this policy have mutated into a heavy emphasis on fairness and balance (in some cases, and in other cases not as much) that has made many journalists lose their focus on what objectivity actually means. In a publication Objectivity Balance: Today s Best Practices in American Journalism by Joel Kaplan, the associate Dean for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
