Mixed Blood Jefferson M. Fish Summary
In the article titled Mixed Blood written by Jefferson M. Fish, Jefferson compares how races are
defined in the United States and Brazil by providing examples of how people are classified because of
their appearance. In writing this article Fish s point that he wants to get across is people are
categorized differently accordingly to where it is that an individual is located. But most importantly
his point in writing this article is to make it clear that the way race is defined does not give an accurate
representation of the reality of things because of what each person considers themselves to be. Fish
states, Consider the avocado is it a fruit or a vegetable? Americans insist it is a vegetable. We eat it in
salads with oil and vinegar. Brazilians, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, across the world many people encounter many different cultures and if they have had a
bad experience with one certain culture they assume that all the people of that culture are the same or
much worse when a person does something that in their culture it is normal others find it to be
offensive. For instance, in some countries adultery is a crime while in others it isn t. Therefore, if a
person grows up in a culture where it is normal to commit adultery and then goes to another country
where it is a crime that person would not be attentionally committing a crime but rather following its
culture that has been taught. That is where the law comes to play and must make the decision as to
whether that person should be convicted or not for doing something that they consider to be

Analyzing The Historical Passage In The Book Of Genesis
Genesis the Historical Passage
Genesis is the first chapter of the Old Testament. It is the origin of the historical story of creation.
Genesis is written to fore tale the story of how God created the heaven and earth. In essence of his
creating the heaven and the earth he also created mankind and animals. In the book of (Genesis 1) in
the bible begins with the creation and recreation of the heaven and earth also known as the natural
world. God created the heaven and earth to show forth his faith through his word and the love for all
living things. In the book of (Genesis 1:1) in the bible states, in the beginning God created the heavens
and the earth. In addition to God creating the heaven and earth he saw where it was inform and that it
did not sever a purpose. So he spoke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book of Genesis 1:2 in the bible tells us, the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over
the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was moved upon the face of the waters. Upon the Spirit
of God moving upon the waters he spoke light into existence. In the book of (Genesis 1:3) in the bible
states, and God said, let there be light: and there was light. God saw where light would make a
difference by day and darkness would make a difference by night. In the book of (Genesis 1:4 5) in the
bible states, And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning
were the first day. As God divided the light from darkness he know that having both light and darkness
will be beneficial to days to come with his competition of the earth. The book of (Genesis 1),

The Importance Of Leadership In Early Care And Education
The American public places insurmountable trust with people who represent positions of
powers and authority over their children. Such as teachers providing instruction, the doctor who
delivers medical care, the minister who offers ecclesiastic advice, and the therapist who
counsels. However, when those in power and authority breach the trust through acts of
negligence, inappropriate behavior involving young children, and failure to employ quality
education due to socioeconomic status, is an act of betrayal to children and the profession they
represent. In the article, Making a Difference: Leadership in Early Care and Education Policy, early
care and education is a hot policy issue. Therefore, the findings of researchers Gormley, Gayer,
Dawson (2004), study of improvement of cognitive and language skills of minority and disadvantaged
four year olds in a state funded prekindergarten program in Tulsa, Oklahoma, clarifies the demand of
high quality early childhood programs. As policy and research expands on the development of high
quality early childhood programs, we must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the last few decades, child sexual abuse has plummeted in the public schools; yet, there is little
empirical research concerning educator sexual misconduct (Shakeshaft, 2004). According to media
outlets, Florida is one of the highest reporting states of educator sexual misconduct with children.
Consequently, the frequency of this type of educator misconduct behavior forced the Florida
Department of Education to implement the Code of Ethical Conduct for Teachers. May the urgency of
early childhood programs and policy issues lessen the unethical conduct and dilemmas involving the
welfare of all children and their families. As well as close the academic achievement gap of minority

The Birth of the Swatch
Case Analysis: The success of Switzerland Company named Swatch owned by Societe Suisse de
Microelectronique et d Horlogerie (SMH) is a perfect example of a successful brand and product
management. Their success was based on the fact that Swatch had completely excelled in each and
every step of developing and executing its outstanding marketing strategy. In early 80 s the biggest
problem for the Swiss watch industry was the rapid growth of quartz technology which changed the
rules of the game. Low cost watches created a new product and market segment. Unluckily the
Switzerland companies didn t respond to this new threat due to their arrogance. They thought that
quartz watches were unreliable, unsophisticated and beneath Swiss quality ... Show more content on

They decided to avoid the expensive jewelry stores and watch shops favored by most of competitors.
Instead the company adopted an unconventional retail approach. They preferred to keep their watches
out of the jewelry displays where other watches were sold. Instead they created non traditional mini
boutiques and freestanding mono brand Swatch stores with latest designs located in exclusive and
high fashion districts. By doing this they showed understanding of their consumer insight; they
avoided direct competition with others at the same places; finally, created their brand image separately
from the rest of competitors. Different way of distribution and branding process successfully
reinforced their differentiation. In promotion, Swatch was also very successful and did something like
no other. It spent about 30% of product retail price on advertising, more than double the industry
average. They tried to reach their target audience directly and let them be closer to the product
experience of funny, fanciful and joy of life. Swatch did these like no other creating impressive
activities and radical promotional stunts through untraditional approach, such as hanging the giant
Swatch outside the tallest skyscraper in Frankfurt on the day they launched the product in Germany,
they were also the main sponsors of the break dance competitions and they acquired the celebrity
endorsement. Swatch also utilized the Swiss watch heritage by smartly

Observation Of Solar Eclipses
Solar eclipses provide a unique opportunity to observe the sun itself owing to the moon providing a
clear view of the solar chromosphere. Observations of the sun during a solar eclipse lead to a variety
of discoveries ranging from the discovery of elements to a deeper understanding of solar activities
such as coronal mass ejections. The use of equipment in new ways allows scientists to make
previously unimaginable discoveries as Pierre Jansen discovered in 1868 while observing the sun.
With the knowledge of atomic emission spectroscopy and new instruments Pierre Jansen observed the
spectrum of the chromosphere that was briefly visible at the beginning and at the end of totality and
saw a bright yellow emission line (Pasachoff, 2009). After further observation without an eclipse he
and Norman Lockyer independently confirmed that this line indicated the presence of a new element
named helium. Observations of this nature can produce false positives as was the case for coronium.
From solar observation green, red, and several fainter emission lines (Pasachoff, 2009) were observed
and attributed to an element named coronium. The existence of such an element was later disproved
when it was discovered that these lines came from highly ionized states of iron, calcium and nickel (an
astro...). Solar observation during an eclipse can also give insight to solar phenomena such as coronal
mass ejections, also known as CMEs. CEMs are billion ton clouds of magnetized plasma ejected from

How Does Andy Warhol Show Signs Of A Death Effect
The main body of this paper compares Andy Warhol s auction data from 1985 to 1996 to Richard
Agnello s avant garde and general art market indexes for signs of a Death Effect. Compared against
both the avant garde and general art market, Warhol shows signs of a slight Death Effect.
This appendix examines Roy Lichtenstein s market for signs of a Death Effect as well. Lichtenstein
was older than Warhol and the usual artist whom the literature suggests can demonstrate a Death
Effect. Heinrich Ursprung and Christian Wiermann (2008) find that the ideal age to exhibit a death
effect is between 60 and 70 because younger artists are not well enough established and the market
already anticipates the death of older artists. To analyze Lichtenstein s ... Show more content on

The general art market, as captured in Mei and Moses s index, began to fall in 1995 and continued to
fall until 1997 (Figure 9). The art market began to rise in 1998, but Lichtenstein s continued to fall.
The year after Lichtenstein s death was the only year Lichtenstein and the general market diverged. By
1999 Lichtenstein s market rose to rejoin the general market. This appears to be the opposite of a
death effect since total sale prices fell below the general art market.
Lichtenstein s market generally followed the Dow Jones Industrial Average around Lichtenstein s
death, but reacted much more significantly. From 1993 to 1995 Lichtenstein rose with the Dow, but
began falling a year before the Dow started to drop (Figure 19). The Dow peaked in 1996 and started
to decline until 1998. During this decline, Lichtenstein s individual market fell much faster changing
over 150% while the Dow fell 15%. The year of Lichtenstein s death briefly departed from the trend
and only fell 1% between 1996 to 1997, though the Dow continued to fall at the same rate of

Abstract
This case study determines the critical success factors used by Subway Restaurants Corporation to
expand nationally, which the corporation wants to use also to expand internationally. In addition, this
paper describes the competition and the prospect success in Asia Pacific and Latin America. In
general, the fast food industry is discovered with respect to the history and future plans of fast food
chain Subway international for expanding and accretion in Asia Pacific and Latin America, containing
the four factors that Subway should use to compete and success in those markets. Each proposed
country market has unique cultural and religious requirements should be realized by Subway, as well
as the consumption patterns, market trends, and the franchise values which determine from the local
traditional fast food compared to the viewpoint of Subway s healthy alternatives and low expansion
costs. Keywords: Subway, factor, competition, expansion.
Executive Summary
Introduction The success of Subway started in 1965, when Fred Deluca took an advice from family
friend Peter Buck, to open a sandwich shop to earn more money and to pay for his education. The first
Subway branch opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Their target was to open 32 restaurants in ten

Emotional Analysis Of KFC
Commercial analyze KFC
I have chosen to analyze an old commercial from KFC. I do not know from which year the
commercial is from but the commercial is from the USA. The type of product in the commercial is fast
food and more specific fried chicken. In the commercial there is no obvious slogan, but they say
Kentucky fried chicken which I think is the slogan in this commercial.
The target audience for the commercial is Housewives and their family. The commercial needs to get
attention from people in general because they are the people that is supposed to eat the fried chicken,
but it also need to get attention from the housewives since they are making the food in the households.
To summarize the commercial music is played in the background through the whole commercial. The
commercial starts with showing some scenes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two arguments are supposed to give the audience more information so they want to buy the
food. While they talk about how the food is made and seasoned they use an emotional argument, to get
the audience feel that they want to eat the food. ... so whenever you are pressed for time... this line is
also an emotional argument, they want the audience to feel the feeling when they do not got so much
time. And the feeling of in that kind of situations it would be nice with food from Kentucky Fried
Chicken.
I do not think that the commercial objectify anyone. Because objectifying is when you use a person as
an object instead of a person, which is not shown in the commercial. Stereotypes is something that is
used in the commercial. That the housewives got the responsibility for the household to take care of
the house and make the food is a stereotype for women. Another stereotype that you can fins in the
commercial is only white

World Church Review
Theology in the Majority World Church
Book Review of Theology in the Context of World Christianity
Theology in the context of World Christianity by Timothy Tennent is a great book about theology
development in the post west Christianity. I am amazed by the fact that theology in Africa, Latin
America and Asia has been expanding by the grace of God. At the same time, I feel the pain of the
traditional western theology being dated quickly. This book refreshed my mindset of theology by
integrating systematic theology with missiology (158/8686).
Coming from a culture where Christianity is new, it is exciting for me to read a book focusing on
theology in the majority world church. This book is very encouraging to me. It brings a new
perspective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tennent carefully reviewed the history of Chinese Christianity. It is quite amazing to realize that the
Nestorians reached out and gained ground in China as early as AD 635. That s even before the Europe
was Christianized. Although I doubt the outcome of the BTJM movement, I am encouraged by the
message of evangelize the Islam, Judaism by the Chinese missionaries.
Tennent also discussed the importance of culture and church with the category of ecclesiology. As the
majority world church is facing the non Christian world and culture, it is pivotal to develop a more
engaged theology in the midst of a social and cultural landscape that is always changing (7581/8686).
The shortcomings of this book is his assumption of the readers knowing the traditional western
theology well. He used big paragraphs to discuss the difference between the rising majority church
theology and the traditional western theology. Another area will be lacking the discussion on
theological education for the majority world church. The churches emerged quickly in Africa, Latin
American and Asia need time to raise scholars and teachers who can develop and teach theology. The
centers of theology scholarship is still in the west. It will be great if the western seminaries can
prepare well for the training of next generation theologians with global

The Meaning Of Life Milestones In High School
There are many significant in your life. From being born to your first step to going to school. There are
life milestones but milestones are so much more than just a moment. Milestones are what make your
life up, where you take a minute and say, Wow I actually did this. For me, one of my biggest
milestones was high school graduation. It wasn t the actual graduation itself, but the meaning
underneath and what it meant for me for the rest of my life. Not only was I growing older and moving
on with my entire environment changed. Graduation marked the end of a chapter in my book with
some people and continues new ones with others. I will never forget Graduation day. I remember the
morning with yelling and having to get ready, the evening with the actual graduation, and the night
when it was all said and done.
Graduation morning was really hectic. Not only was I graduation high school but my brother had just
graduated college. We woke up that morning and I had to eat breakfast fast to get ready for my
graduation. My mother insisted on dressing me in my stole, pins, and all the ropes I received from
high school. After that was done my brother put on his gown. We went to Brookside Garden and took
so many pictures. I was super excited but the hat was killing me. There wasn t one good part about it,
it was itchy and kept trying to fall off. Plus on top of that, I have super long hair down to my thighs so
I was forced to wear my hair out because if I tried to put it in a bun my

Prison Overcrowding And The United States
Nelson Mandela once said, It is said that no one truly knows a nation until one has been inside its jails.
A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones. The prisons in
the United States have been overcrowded for many years and require a change in order to fix this.
Some of the main causes for prison overcrowding that will be covered in this paper are mass
incarceration, long sentencing, recidivism, and prisoners of drug crimes. Overcrowding of prisons in
the United States is a major issue that affects not only the prisoners themselves, but taxpayers and
politicians. Although there are many different solutions to prison overcrowding such as building more
prisons, alternative and shorter sentences, etc., the issue is still prevalent. Some feel the best way to
deal with overcrowding is to build more prisons to accommodate the large influx of prisoners. Others
feel the best mode of action to solve this problem is through shorter, and alternative sentencing, which
frees up space for serious offenders of the law. This paper argues that shorter, and alternative prison
sentences are the most effective way to reduce the prison population in the United States. Prisons and
their overcrowding is a controversial topic not to be taken lightly. There are an incredible number of
people in American prisons today. For example, according to Peter Katel, there are more people in
prison right now in the United States than any other country. The

Aztec Economic System
Pre Hispanic Aztecs had an extremely economic based society, with a complex system of trade. Some
people even argue that the Aztecs becoming centralized into city states was just as much do to with
economics as politics, perhaps even more so (Nichols). The central base for Aztec trade was in the
basin of Mexico and consisted of the Triple alliance capitals of Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Otumba.
Aztecs had rulers as well as social elites that made alliances with other regions of the empire. Social
elites would form alliances, despite political boundaries, based on trade. Rulers wanted to grow their
power by growing their economic system and gaining control over resources. Aztec city state rulers
taxed their vendors so it was beneficial to them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Early Post Classic Period archaeologists can see where alliances and trade patterns existed with
the two styles of Mazapan/Totlan, and Black on Orange Aztec I ceramics. The Mazapan/Totlan style is
found in the Eastern and Northern Basin while the Black on Orange Aztec I ceramics are found in the
southern Chalco Xochimilco area, in the north central Basin, and farther east (Nichols). The
distribution of these styles and the fact that they generally are not found in the same areas suggests
that they were exchanged in relation to ethnic and/or political ties. In the Middle Post Classic Period
ceramic exports from both the Texcoco, and Tenochtitlan regions increased. During this time Black on
Orange Aztec II ceramics were produced in both the Texcoco and the Tenochtitlan regions. Black on
Orange Aztec II ceramics from the Texcoco region are found at Cerro Portezuelo, while Black on
Orange Aztec II ceramics from the Tenochtitlan region are found in Chalco and Xaltoca (Nichols).
Both of these examples support historical data that both the Texcoco and the Tenochtitlan regions were

Essay On Reading Intervention
English language learners tend to fall behind their peers due to the inability to read or understand the
language. There are various students who identify themselves as English learners and almost 10% of
public school students in the United States participate in school based programs for ELs (Amendum,
Bratsch Hines, and Vernon Feagans 2017). Many students still tend to lack and struggle in reading and
language development. To help English learner s different types of interventions are being developed
that focus on the needs of the students. Through various strategies like the Core Intervention Model
and the Targeted Reading Intervention help struggling students perform at a standard level with their
peers.

It is important to not provide additional verbal instruction between the staircase steps because the
students are English learners who may not understand the various vocabulary words used while giving
the extra instructions. If more explanation is given it can increase the difficulty for Els because it
imposes additional language demands and it can distract them from the phonological focus that they
are supposed to be learning (Gerbert etal 2006). It is hard enough for them to understand what is being
ask of them and giving them extra instructions will just confuse them. It is important to use rapid pace,
explicit and concise questions, and to use enthusiastic praise immediately after a child responds
because the students who are struggling are falling behind their peers, using a fast paced can lead them
to catch up within a short time frame. By using a fast pace approach students have less time of being
distracted, it keeps them focus on the material. To be explicit and concise the teacher fist needs to
model the activity he/she wants the students to do, for struggling readers they need to be taught first of
what they need to do to learn the material (Richards Leafstedt 2009). By demonstrating to the students
what the teacher is asking for they get an idea of what is expected from them. Once the teacher
demonstrates the correct way to do it,

The Application Of Genre Analysis And Phraseology
The application of genre analysis and phraseology has great potential to inform this kind of research
and practice, enabling us to receive a more thorough understanding of how language is used in a
particular context and/or in a particular genre. In this study, the textual analysis included inter rater
reliability analysis performed by two university instructors to code a portion of the texts. The analysis
reached a satisfactory level of agreement in the four internal sections in the main study. In addition,
the selection of multiword combinations to be included in the pedagogically useful list, apart from a
corpus based approach relying on frequency of occurrence of the lexical units, with instructors
insights come into play, and therefore the task is much facilitated. These procedures demonstrate a
thorough perspective on conducting textual analysis to receive in depth and specific information,
verify the outcomes, and ensure that the results of this study are accurate and reliable.
10.3.2 Pedagogical implications
As for novice writers and graduate students, knowledge concerning rhetorical organisation of texts as
well as their communicative purposes identified and phraseological patterns obtained from this study
can effectively improve novice writers and graduate students understanding on academic reading and
writing RAs in general. The insights into how RAs in applied linguistics, particularly those published

The Importance Of Premarital Sexual Intercourse
In an increasingly secular American society, the traditional value of sexual abstinence until marriage
has become obsolete. Movies, music, and media glorify promiscuous behavior, and people are putting
off marriage until later in life. As American culture continues to shift towards a romanticized view of
premarital sexual intercourse, one ought to ask his or herself if this is truly a morally permissible act.
Personally, I find this behavior alarming, and in this essay, I hope to persuade readers as to why
premarital sexual intercourse should not be accepted or encouraged. I will begin by criticizing a
typical modus tollens argument pro premarital sexual intercourse advocates often present. Next, I will
defend my claim that the presented argument is unsound by providing an equivalent example. I will
then address a possible objection to my stance, and I will overcome this objection by examining a few
of the numerous negative consequences to premarital sexual intercourse. The pro premarital sexual
intercourse argument is as follows:
1) If premarital sexual intercourse is morally impermissible for adults, then it is reasonable to prohibit
premarital sexual intercourse for adults (given what we know about the growth and development of
young men and women).
2) It is not reasonable to prohibit premarital sexual intercourse for adults (given what we know about
the growth and development of young men and women).
3) So, it is not the case that premarital sexual intercourse is

Ancient Greece And Rome Vs. Rome
Classical Greece and Rome were ancient civilizations that existed 2500 years ago, and are regarded by
numerous scholars as the foundation of humanities in various fields. In popular culture, Ancient
Greece and Rome are portrayed substantially in books and movies; however, not many people are
aware of how they also shape our thoughts, ideals, and motivations. Through an analysis of classical
elements often portrayed in popular media, this essay attempts to illustrate how the representation of
ancient Greece and Rome in books and movies influence our lives and emphasize the need to stay
informed as these influences can be both beneficial and detrimental to our perception of the world.
The way ancient culture can impact our ideals is demonstrated by various contemporary adaptations of
Greek mythology. For instance, in 1997, Walt Disney produced the animated movie Hercules, based
on stories about the legendary Greek hero who persevered through numerous labors and challenges
and eventually gained a place in Mount Olympus, the home of the gods. Hercules was a major box
office hit among children and had left a deep impression on how they perceive the qualities of a hero.
Similarly, the 2004 film Troy, based loosely on Homer s the Iliad, tells the story of the hero Achilles
and the Trojan War. Troy was a critical success, grossing nearly 500 million dollars worldwide. But
the movie did not exhibit merely entertainment values: studies found Troy also established on the male

The Success Rate Of 12 Step Programs
The majority of research that exists on 12 step programs often focus on determining the success rate of
12 step programs such as AA. There is little to no research on problems associated with 12 step
programs or problematic areas of 12 step programs. The little research that does exist argue that 12
step programs are not structured for comorbid individual, they may not be the best option for mild
substance use disorder, and the central theme of powerlessness can conflict with a therapist s
theoretical orientation and be harmful to the therapeutic alliance. (Kelly Myers, 2007, Laudet et al.,
2004, L, Ingvarson, Richard, 1995). The National Institute of Mental Health (2013) has found that
43.6 million adults aged 18 and older have at least one mental illness and 45 percent of individuals
with one mental disorder met criteria for two or more disorders. The presence of comorbid disorders
can severely affect the treatment and outcome of individuals (Terra et al., 2006). Many studies have
found that clients with a dual diagnosis experience increased rates of hospitalization and increased use
of emergency services (Helzer Pryzbeck, 1998). It is easy to imagine how hospitalization can interrupt
treatment by making it difficulty for individuals to attend.
Despite the fact that mental disorders and substance use disorders often appear together, services are
often separate. It is no different with 12 step programs because 12 step programs tend to focus on one
theme. In other

The Evil Eye in The Tell-Tale Heart Essay
The Evil Eye in The Tell Tale Heart
In Edgar Allen Poe s Short story The Tell Tale Heart much is made of the evil eye of the old man.
Immediately we are introduced to a man who would never hurt a fly. The narrator of the story even
goes so far as to say he loved the old man. This old man is portrayed as one who would do anything
for you. However, the caretaker of the old man has one small problem with the old man. The eye that
darn evil eye! What could cause a person to become enraged by an eye and only one eye?
Martha Womack stated that the violence comes from an irrational fear represented through the old
man s eye. The belief in the evil eye dates back to ancient times, and even today, is fairly common ...

Clearly there is a reason for the usage of only one eye.
B. D. Tucker wrote of the possibility of the eye representing a higher being. This sparked the option
and bringing about the eye of God belief. Talking about many things from the Cyclopes, the
possibility of an eye of a higher being, and more so on the Christian side of what the story means.
Tucker wrote more about the ties to The Bible with the three men who come to the door after the
murder. The mentioning of the possibility of the eye as a higher being caused me to pursue how the
eye could be that of the one true God. Focusing on the ending of the story when the three officers I
wanted to look at the influence of God in the earlier stages of the story with the evil eye.
I needed to find where a single eye is used in other areas both in literature and in everyday use. There
were many places to look but none would deal with God until I looked closer at both my Bible and at
the symbolism of one eye. I remembered seeing a single eye on the Great Seal of the United States
both on the eagle and on the capstone of the pyramid. This got me thinking as to when the seal was
placed on the dollar bill. As stated at the Great Seal s website the seal was first placed on the one
dollar bill in 1935 well after the publishing date of The Tell Tale Heart in 1850 (Kennedy 33).
However, upon further reading about the seal I noticed it was created in 1782 so Poe

Nursing Self Regulation Essay
A profession can be defined as a prestigious occupation with a high degree of identification among its
member that requires a length and rigorous education in an intellectually demanding and theoretically
based course of study; that engages in rigorous self regulation and control; that holds authority over
clients; and that puts service to society above simple self interest (Schwirian, 1998, p. 6). Nursing is
just that, and with its specific body of knowledge, standards, and codes of ethics, it is only fitting that
it be self regulated (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2012). The College of Nurses works with registered
nurses, registered practical nurses, and nurse practioners to determine whether or not standards and
best practices are met and that the public s safety is protected.
Specific Knowledge
Self regulation is the idea of a professional group entering an agreement with the government to
regulate their activities of their members (Canadian Nurses Association, 2007). This allows the
government to have a small role in the control over the practice of the profession and the services that
the members provide, but they do not have to gain in depth expertise to regulate the profession that
would be needed if it were under direct regulation. Self regulation acknowledges that the profession is
able to regulate its members because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of Two Sisters By Ama Ata Aidoo s Two Sister
Even though youngest siblings always try to do what they can to not be compared to their siblings,
being the youngest does not always have perks. We do not get as much attention like our older siblings
do and we sometimes do not feel the same love the parents give to their first born.
While reading through the story, Two Sisters, Ama Ata Aidoo brought up interesting dynamics.
Connie is the elder sister who takes well care of her family and as a wife who married to her husband,
James. Throughout the story, we see that Connie advises Mercy to stop dating older men. The story
states that the two do not have their parents to guide them; so, Connie being the oldest took the
responsibility to look after her sister. I have two older siblings, Samuel, 24 and Lorena, 21. I can relate
in a way to Mercy, because being the younger sister, we try to live in the other direction of our siblings
to avoid comparisons. I am different from my brother and sister, and I always try to live my life. We
may have some similarities, personality wise, but we live life very differently. Constantly family and
friends tell me why aren t you like your brother and sister? or if your brother or sister were here, they
would know what to do, why can t you be like them? First things first, I do not want to be cast in my
brother or sister shadow. I want to be different and be recognized as Lucia not just by being Samuel
and Lorena s younger sister. So, I can see why Mercy is very different from her

Comparative Essay
Fifth Business by Roberson Davies and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
Throughout most of history woman have faced an imbalance within their social class opposed to the
male gender. They have had fewer rights and much fewer career opportunities, the stereotype that a
women s place is in the home is due to the most socially accepted and common career of wifehood
and motherhood. Through the comparison of Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and Fifth Business

Police officers put their lives out on risk for everyone, knowing that they may not come home to their

do police officers actually do for starters. They are assigned designated areas to patrol, during the

Witch Hunts In The 19th Century
From the 1480s to early 1800s, mass hysteria erupted throughout the European continent. These cases
of witches and demonic possession, along with minor events of hysteria that ran rapid throughout
Europe. This resulted in suspicions and persecutions that continue today.
Most witch hunts were started during backdrops of social, economical, or religious change. The
generalized stress branched from these backdrops, including the epidemics and natural disasters, seem
to be the major cause of all hysterical outbreaks. Such as some malign conspiracy, one of the rumor
panics, was attempting to destroy the Christian religions through poison, witchcraft and demons.
These hunts come and go for nearly three centuries, in variations to time. The range of death varied
from the 26,000 estimated deaths in Germany to the lowest four deaths in Ireland. Also, research
points out that in the more rapidly developing countries, where the Catholic churches were weak,

Gas Prices in the United States
Gas Prices in the United States Introduction and Claim No one enjoys paying high prices for gasoline
in the United States. In fact when gasoline prices rise to levels above $3 and $4 dollars and even up to
$5 a gallon it hurts the economy because it hurts consumers. This paper focuses on gasoline prices and
how gasoline prices affect the way Americans drive their cars and trucks. Thesis: Notwithstanding the
cynical view that gasoline distributors are manipulating prices to gouge consumers, the literature
reflects that prices rise and fall in most cases primarily based on market driven forces, and on
problems with refineries. Moreover, when the government sets higher mileage standards for vehicles,
it means cars go a lot farther on a gallon notwithstanding the price of that gallon of gasoline. The
Literature on Gasoline Prices Background As a quick review, information provided by the Research
and Innovative Technology Administration, a division of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics
(which is a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation) is helpful in terms of following the
prices of the cost of a gallon of gasoline from January 2002 through January 2012. In January, 2002,
the average cost of a gallon of gasoline was just over a dollar; by January 2004 the cost of a gallon of
gasoline had risen to $1.75; and by January 2006 the price rose to around $3.00 a gallon. Then in
January 2008 the cost of gas was up to $4.00; it dipped to around $2.00 briefly in 2009

Islam, A Monotheistic Religion
Islam, a monotheistic religion, means submitting one s will to Allah s will. When Allah created the
Universe, He did not invite anyone to challenge His creation. Allah has a purpose for everything He
creates, therefore He does not need to explain what He does to His creation. Allah has sent messengers
to convey to the human kind what is legal and illegal for them. He gave His creation different abilities;
however, He has given humans the ability to obey or disobey Him. Among the messengers that God
has sent, one is Mohammed (PBUH). He was given the Quran, the Word of God, to disclose the
commandments of Allah. Like any other prophet, Mohammed (PBUH) used his way to guide the
world to the right path. The Quran is a revelation through Gabriel (PBUH) to the prophet Mohammed
(PBUH). In the holy Quran, dogs are described as loyal, self sacrificing, and devoted to their guardian.
The loyalty of dogs makes them beneficial for protection, hunting, and detection of explosives and
drugs; Nevertheless, Muslims cannot have any physical contact with them because of their impure
saliva. The prophet encouraged all the beneficent uses of dogs, like herding and hunting, however, he
did not want them to have any physical contact with dogs. The prophet discouraged his companions
from having pet dogs, and there was a purpose. During the era of the prophet Mohammed (PBUH),

Separation of Powers in the Commowealth
This doctrine was formulated by French philosopher Montesquieu who theorized that abuse of powers
by the three branches would be checked through separating the branches functionally and physically.
This means no branch should perform function of the other and no person can hold office
simultaneously in the branches.
However, there are instances where state courts have influences from the decisions of cases in the
Commonwealth courts. In the ruling made in the case Kable v Director of public prosecution1996 189
CLR51.This case forbid states court exceeding federal jurisdiction. Therefore, State Supreme courts
rely on decisions of federal courts and vice versa (Harris, 2013).
In the separation of powers there is the doctrine that courts cannot be vested with non judicial power
and federal judicial powers cannot be vested in a state court. It goes that if a court exercises non
judicial power, then separation of powers will be violated. The states do not have explicit separation of
powers in their respective constitutions. Parliament is able to vest judicial federal powers with non
judicial powers so long as they do not undermine their integrity. States courts can still exercise their
independence since they have some discretion in some matters.
Looking at the separation of powers in States such as Queensland, there are unique features.
Commonwealth Constitution confers separation of powers but States do not have constitutional
separation of powers. Influence of executive on

The Positive Impact Of Social Media s Impact On Society
Technology Impacting Our Society Social media has opened so many doors for the many people in
our country and assist them to connect back to their country from a click of a button as mentioned in
Diana L. Eck s, Preface: After September 11 and Introduction to a New America . As we develop into
a pluralistic society, social media is playing an imperative role in which it is easy to make connection
with a vast number of people. But there are limitations that could arise because of this, for example
not being able to create strong ties with the amount of friends we have on social media. Throughout
the article, in Malcolm Gladwell s Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted he
discusses strong ties and weak ties that arise as a result of social media taking over and how it affects
the problematic situations around the world. As we approach our pluralistic society, it is getting much
easier to feel like we all belong with the constant feeling of comfort coming from the internet and all it
has to offer. Social media in present day is something that is evolving so rapidly in our world and
throughout our flourishing pluralistic society, we are using technology to develop ourselves and make
connection around us, but limitations are still present and can affect our ability to truly connect with
our nation in a motivational way. Eck and Gladwell both discuss strong ties in their articles and they

The Impact Of Viking Raids On The British Isles
Coming from Scandinavian countries, predominantly Denmark and Norway, the Vikings began
raiding the British Isles in the late 700s (James). The Vikings primarily targeted monasteries, because
that is where most of the wealth was concentrated (Loughrey). These raids were very violent, people
were killed, and the survivors were sold into slavery (Loughrey). These violent raids earned the
Vikings the reputation of barbarians, much like the Mongols a few centuries later in Asia. After some
time, once the Vikings exhausted most of the wealth in the monasteries, they turned their interest into
settling the British Isles (James). By the late 9th century the Vikings had conquered most of England
(James). However, even though these Viking kingdoms did not last very long, the Scandinavians who
resided there stayed. These Scandinavians would go on to change the British Isles in many ways.
Despite the violent and negative impacts of Viking raids on the British Isles, once the Vikings settled
down, they had a significant and positive peaceful impact on the British Isles culturally, politically,
and economically. The first of these positive impacts was on the culture of the British Isles. One of the
ways that the Vikings influenced the culture is evidenced by how they changed the English language.
Since Old Norse and Old English are very similar, it can be very hard to detect where Old Norse
coincides with modern English (Treharne 3). However, a very obvious influence is seen in the

All of the family members acted genuine. There was one actor who stood out as a perfect fit for his
character. Taylor Rascher played Simon Bliss and played him perfectly. Rascher s character Simon
was a young man who was dramatic and romantic so much so it was almost to the point of
ridiculousness. Rascher stole the show in the first act when he was romancing with Michelle Luz, who
plays Myra Arundel. Rascher was displaying his love for Michelle Luz (Myra) in the most dramatic of
fashions; he was playing the Bliss game of pretending to be in complete love with someone and then a
moment later change his mind. Rascher was proclaiming his love with elegant speeches and coddling
up next to her and eventually kissing her. Rascher made this scene particularly hilarious because he
was completely over the top in typical Bliss fashion. Of course, all of this was for naught because Luz
ended up kissing Joe Hubbard s character David Bliss in act two and also Rascher proclaimed his
engagement to Caitlin Stagemoller s character, Jackie Coryton. Rascher made his voice more shrill

The Fallacy Of Public Education
The Fallacy of Public Education
Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so
that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each. Plato
For the last several decades, there has been a great return to homeschooling. Many families have seen
the need to remove their children from the public education system for a variety of reasons: for
religious grounds, because of a decline of morals in the public system, or to give their children an
education where they are not held back from reaching their potential. When homeschooling, a child
can work at their own pace often learning 2 years or more of material in one year and allowing them
to fully explore topics that interest them. Their intellectual curiosity can be fulfilled and they can be
the best they can possibly be. Students in the public school system are subjected to teaching that is
repetitive, biased, and falls short of academic success. In the past, students that were failing
coursework, but were getting older, were pushed on to higher grades even though they were not ready
for the more advanced coursework. In the 1980 s there was a great number of graduates who could not
even read. How can the proponents of the public education system even make claims that to be
successful today, children need to attend their institutions? Today s formal, public educational system

Evaluating The Correlation Between The Oc And Performance...
Influence on Performance
Evaluating the correlation between the OC and performance is not a modern approach. In the last
century, Burns Stalker (1961) pointed out that in their management research article managers play a
role in getting the employees commitment that leads to improved productivity. Expanding on that
research Wei Lees, (2014) combines that leadership and types OC, would introduce values and
objectives of the organization to employees and voice the importance to understand the overall
organizational goals and will get the most out of the internal systems. The Fiol Lyles (1985)
introduced organization learning into the culture and affected in firm s decision making and
organizational learning. In the current era, business becomes more globalized, markets shift drastically
and require the new strategies.
Addressing the OC s to match those environments, scholars are looking at the missing link between
the OC learning and specific culture platforms, in correlation to performance and productivity.
Research by Burns Stalker (1961); Covin Slevin (1989) explain that the changes of environments
facilitate the rapid undertaking of strategic transformations when external conditions rapidly change
the operation shift is necessary and involves OC. This adaptation is presented in a recent study by Wei

Jerome David Salinger, more commonly known as J. D. Salinger, was an American author and
novelist. Despite leading a highly reclusive lifestyle and having only a narrow body of work, Salinger
is seen as a literary giant. While his short stories inspired many famous authors, his controversial 1951
work, The Catcher in the rye, has become a landmark novel and a household name. Salinger was born
in New York City on New Year s Day, 1919 to Sol and Miriam Salinger. His father, Sol, was a
successful Kosher cheese and meat importer of Jewish and Lithuanian descent. Miriam (born Marie
née Jillich), his mother, was Scotch Irish but later converted to Judaism after marrying Salinger s
father. Similar to the characters in his stories, his family lived ... Show more content on

Young readers around the world could relate to many of the themes and issues in the novel. Today The
Catcher in the Rye has sold over 60 million copies and continues to sell around a quarter million each
year. It has become a staple for most school curriculums in the US and UK. The widespread success of
his novel pushed Salinger to long for privacy. He refused as many interviews as possible and even had
his photo removed from the back covers of each book. To escape the public eye he fled to England for
two months. In 1953, only two years after the release of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger packed his
things and moved to a 90 acre property in Cornish, New Hampshire. His new home had no running
water, electricity, or working telephone. During this time he did everything in his power to isolate
himself from the public and his literary output came to an abrupt halt. In a rare 1962 interview with
The New York Times Salinger said Publishing is a terrible invasion of my privacy. I like to write. I
love to write. But I write just for myself and my own pleasure. (Fosburgh, 1974). It is believed that
there are over eight full unpublished novels written by Salinger somewhere in his

How Has Hip-Hop Changed In The 80 s
Hip Hop has changed over the decades some of these decades include the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s.
Hip Hop came from New York, few people knew about Hip Hop when it was first being created in the
late 1970s. Hip hop did not really emerge until the 1980s when more Hip Hop artist recorded and
released more music. The 1990s came along Hip Hop turned more vulgar which is also my favorite
Hip Hop era. The early 2000s is the most memorable. Hip Hop has evolved into many forms some
rock bands have even done a Hip Hop album bands like the most memorable. Hip Hop has evolved
into different forms some rock bands have even done a Hip Hop album bands like Limp Bizkit. The
genre created in very poor districts, like the Bronx, in New York by African American and Latino
teenagers. They learned how to use turntables by working as DJs at discos. DJs and MCs would play
at free block parties. An MC is an abbreviation for Master of Ceremony his/her job is to focus on
skills, lyrical ability, and subject. So, during block parties, the DJ would play music and the MC
encouraged guest to have fun. Parties went on MCs slowly started to rhyme while they were
performing. Hip Hop was only played live at first until Sugar Hill Gang released Rappers Delight in
1979. Rappers Delight was a huge success for hip hop. Personally, I consider the Sugar Hill Gang the
founding fathers of Hip Hop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Thin, Light And Light
Thin. Light. Flexible.
So I assume many of you have heard of LED screens or panels, chances are you are probably reading
this on one of them. Or if you re one of those people who still use that stuff called paper then maybe
on that. Well whatever you are reading this on prepare to empty you re wallet s because this new
technology will surly brighten your day!
LED s or Light Emitting Diodes have been around since the 60 s and I think they are starting to
decline. The new technology slowly replacing LED s are OLED s or Organic Light Emitting Diodes.
Now these are special because they contain small quantities of organic material such as carbon. OLED
s feature many vase improvements over its older friend LED s, these include: flexibility, durability,
transparency and the list goes on! Although this all comes with an unfortunately large price tag.
While OLED s are a great technology nowadays they have not always been so advanced. The first
working OLED was created in 1987 by Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak.
Although this was the first technically working OLED, electroluminescence the principle OLED s use
was first reported in 1953 by A. Bernanose, M. Comte, and P. Vonaux, using a high voltage electrical
field. Electroluminescence is when a material emits light in response to the passage of an electric
current or to a strong electric field being applied through the substance (J. Chim p.50, 64.).
In the early days of production OLED s were very

Belonging In The Secret Garden By Frances Hodgson Burnett
Has there ever been a place where you just felt like you belonged? For Mary, the secret garden was
that place. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett has the theme of belonging. This essay will
be covering how Mary, Colin, Mrs. Medlock, and Lord Craven all applied to the theme in their own
way whether it be for better or for worse. Also, what scenes and symbols were useful and played an
important role to the theme of belonging. First off, Mary shows how this theme applies to her in many
ways, but the scene when Mary first discovers the garden really stands out. This part in the movie is a
major key to the whole story. She is discovering a place that was close to her mother and aunt s heart,
and besides the ivory elephant, the garden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She thought it was rather absurd that he be kept in his room and she was astonished to hear he d never
been outside, Don t you ever go outside? Never. I m going to die. As a result of that scene happening
she asked why he had to stay in his room. She talked about how he doesn t belong in his room all of
the time. She then learned that it was because he was a premature baby, and they normally die soon
after birth, so for everyday of his whole life he had the mindset that he would die. This described why
his room was completely dark, not just because he couldn t be exposed but because darkness
represents death. Also he wore a white gown, which represents innocence which he his because he
couldn t help his condition. Thanks to Mary believing that he didn t belong there, she got him out of
his room and took him to the garden where he actually belonged because that was where his mother
was. But, the stripping of the covered up windows really hit home for Colin. This symbolism of this
action is a huge part in Colin s life. This is when he overcomes his fears, and when he sees a world he
wished he had have but couldn t, until Mary, that is. Mary brought Colin to where he

Naoto In Detective Prince
From the outside, Naoto seems cool, calm, and collected. At times she can come off as cold or
unemotional, but only because, despite her small stature, she attempts to put on the air of someone
much more mature than her age. Through this demeanor (and while masquerading as a male), she
earned the title of Detective Prince, and was a consultant of the police, although she also often worked
on her own. Even with this exterior, however, it s easier to illicit an emotional reaction out of Naoto
than it first appears. This is especially true when dealing with a case, or when someone close to her is
being threatened. Despite her serious appearance, she can act quite childish and narrow minded at
times.
Her work and her job is one of her driving forces; her parents were both detectives, and died during an
investigation when she was young. Partly out of adoration and partly to find her place, she started
training soon after the accident to become a detective and continue the Shirogane line. It s no small
matter; Naoto is a workaholic. Although she works as a consultant for the police, she is also often on
her own, and will fall just short of doing anything to solve a case. When it became obvious that the
police had arrested the wrong suspect in the Inaba murders, Naoto acts as a decoy (and the next
victim) by readily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This acceptance that she strives for has two dimensions; she both wants to be accepted and respected
in the workplace, and accepted by her peers as a friend. In the workplace, she was (and still is) very
rarely taken seriously because of her age, despite her accomplishments. However, at the end of her
social link, she vows to keep working cases and trying harder so that she ll one day be

Review Of Atul Gawande s The New York Times Bestseller...
In the New York Times bestseller Being Mortal, surgeon and author Atul Gawande tackles just what
may be the most difficult challenge of his profession, learning how to handle the end of life process.
Throughout his book, he recites the stories of several individuals, in which the trajectory from a state
of independence to one of death can easily be traced in each. Although Gawande does acknowledge
that death is inevitable, he emphasizes that individuals of society, especially those that work in the
health care field, have not yet learned how to deal with this slow process well, if at all. Surprisingly,
he does not blame patients or the intrinsic difficulty that death itself brings, but in fact is relentless in
the criticism of his fellow physicians, stating we ve been wrong about what our job is in medicine. We
think our job is to ensure health and survival...it is to enable well being. (Gawande, Atul. Being Mortal
pp.259) This paper aims to further analyze Gawande s position on end of life care, understand why
palliative care must play a larger role than interventional medicine during a patient s last few weeks
and determine whether a physician s role during this crucial time should be that of a healer or a
sustainer of the soul. Before we can discuss palliative care, interventional medicine and the role of
physicians in both of these settings, it is integral to understand Gawande s position surrounding end of
life care. After all, not only is he a practicing

  • 2. Mixed Blood Jefferson M. Fish Summary In the article titled Mixed Blood written by Jefferson M. Fish, Jefferson compares how races are defined in the United States and Brazil by providing examples of how people are classified because of their appearance. In writing this article Fish s point that he wants to get across is people are categorized differently accordingly to where it is that an individual is located. But most importantly his point in writing this article is to make it clear that the way race is defined does not give an accurate representation of the reality of things because of what each person considers themselves to be. Such as teachers providing instruction, the doctor who delivers medical care, the minister who offers ecclesiastic advice, and the therapist who counsels. However, when those in power and authority breach the trust through acts of negligence, inappropriate behavior involving young children, and failure to employ quality education due to socioeconomic status, is an act of betrayal to children and the profession they represent. In the article, Making a Difference: Leadership in Early Care and Education Policy, early care and education is a hot policy issue. Therefore, the findings of researchers Gormley, Gayer, Dawson (2004), study of improvement of cognitive and language skills of minority and disadvantaged four year olds in a state funded prekindergarten program in Tulsa, Oklahoma, clarifies the demand of high quality early childhood programs. The Birth of the Swatch Case Analysis: The success of Switzerland Company named Swatch owned by Societe Suisse de Microelectronique et d Horlogerie (SMH) is a perfect example of a successful brand and product management. Their success was based on the fact that Swatch had completely excelled in each and every step of developing and executing its outstanding marketing strategy. In early 80 s the biggest problem for the Swiss watch industry was the rapid growth of quartz technology which changed the rules of the game. Low cost watches created a new product and market segment. Unluckily the Switzerland companies didn t respond to this new threat due to their arrogance. They decided to avoid the expensive jewelry stores and watch shops favored by most of competitors. Instead the company adopted an unconventional retail approach. They preferred to keep their watches out of the jewelry displays where other watches were sold. By doing this they showed understanding of their consumer insight; they avoided direct competition with others at the same places; finally, created their brand image separately from the rest of competitors. Different way of distribution and branding process successfully reinforced their differentiation. In promotion, Swatch was also very successful and did something like no other. It spent about 30% of product retail price on advertising, more than double the industry average. • 6. Observation Of Solar Eclipses Solar eclipses provide a unique opportunity to observe the sun itself owing to the moon providing a clear view of the solar chromosphere. Observations of the sun during a solar eclipse lead to a variety of discoveries ranging from the discovery of elements to a deeper understanding of solar activities such as coronal mass ejections. The use of equipment in new ways allows scientists to make previously unimaginable discoveries as Pierre Jansen discovered in 1868 while observing the sun. With the knowledge of atomic emission spectroscopy and new instruments Pierre Jansen observed the spectrum of the chromosphere that was briefly visible at the beginning and at the end of totality and saw a bright yellow emission line (Pasachoff, 2009). After further observation without an eclipse he and Norman Lockyer independently confirmed that this line indicated the presence of a new element named helium. Observations of this nature can produce false positives as was the case for coronium. From solar observation green, red, and several fainter emission lines (Pasachoff, 2009) were observed and attributed to an element named coronium. The existence of such an element was later disproved when it was discovered that these lines came from highly ionized states of iron, calcium and nickel (an astro...). How Does Andy Warhol Show Signs Of A Death Effect The main body of this paper compares Andy Warhol s auction data from 1985 to 1996 to Richard Agnello s avant garde and general art market indexes for signs of a Death Effect. Compared against both the avant garde and general art market, Warhol shows signs of a slight Death Effect. This appendix examines Roy Lichtenstein s market for signs of a Death Effect as well. Lichtenstein was older than Warhol and the usual artist whom the literature suggests can demonstrate a Death Effect. The target audience for the commercial is Housewives and their family. The commercial needs to get attention from people in general because they are the people that is supposed to eat the fried chicken, but it also need to get attention from the housewives since they are making the food in the households. • 12. Prison Overcrowding And The United States Nelson Mandela once said, It is said that no one truly knows a nation until one has been inside its jails. A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones. The prisons in the United States have been overcrowded for many years and require a change in order to fix this. Some of the main causes for prison overcrowding that will be covered in this paper are mass incarceration, long sentencing, recidivism, and prisoners of drug crimes. Overcrowding of prisons in the United States is a major issue that affects not only the prisoners themselves, but taxpayers and politicians. Although there are many different solutions to prison overcrowding such as building more prisons, alternative and shorter sentences, etc., the issue is still prevalent. Some feel the best way to deal with overcrowding is to build more prisons to accommodate the large influx of prisoners. Others feel the best mode of action to solve this problem is through shorter, and alternative sentencing, which frees up space for serious offenders of the law. This paper argues that shorter, and alternative prison sentences are the most effective way to reduce the prison population in the United States. Prisons and their overcrowding is a controversial topic not to be taken lightly. There are an incredible number of people in American prisons today. For example, according to Peter Katel, there are more people in prison right now in the United States than any other country. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Application Of Genre Analysis And Phraseology The application of genre analysis and phraseology has great potential to inform this kind of research and practice, enabling us to receive a more thorough understanding of how language is used in a particular context and/or in a particular genre. In this study, the textual analysis included inter rater reliability analysis performed by two university instructors to code a portion of the texts. The analysis reached a satisfactory level of agreement in the four internal sections in the main study. In addition, the selection of multiword combinations to be included in the pedagogically useful list, apart from a corpus based approach relying on frequency of occurrence of the lexical units, with instructors insights come into play, and therefore the task is much facilitated. These procedures demonstrate a thorough perspective on conducting textual analysis to receive in depth and specific information, verify the outcomes, and ensure that the results of this study are accurate and reliable. 10.3.2 Pedagogical implications As for novice writers and graduate students, knowledge concerning rhetorical organisation of texts as well as their communicative purposes identified and phraseological patterns obtained from this study can effectively improve novice writers and graduate students understanding on academic reading and writing RAs in general. • 17. The Importance Of Premarital Sexual Intercourse In an increasingly secular American society, the traditional value of sexual abstinence until marriage has become obsolete. Movies, music, and media glorify promiscuous behavior, and people are putting off marriage until later in life. As American culture continues to shift towards a romanticized view of premarital sexual intercourse, one ought to ask his or herself if this is truly a morally permissible act. Personally, I find this behavior alarming, and in this essay, I hope to persuade readers as to why premarital sexual intercourse should not be accepted or encouraged. I will begin by criticizing a typical modus tollens argument pro premarital sexual intercourse advocates often present. Next, I will defend my claim that the presented argument is unsound by providing an equivalent example. I will then address a possible objection to my stance, and I will overcome this objection by examining a few of the numerous negative consequences to premarital sexual intercourse. The pro premarital sexual intercourse argument is as follows: 1) If premarital sexual intercourse is morally impermissible for adults, then it is reasonable to prohibit premarital sexual intercourse for adults (given what we know about the growth and development of young men and women). 2) It is not reasonable to prohibit premarital sexual intercourse for adults (given what we know about the growth and development of young men and women). 3) So, it is not the case that premarital sexual intercourse is ... Rome Classical Greece and Rome were ancient civilizations that existed 2500 years ago, and are regarded by numerous scholars as the foundation of humanities in various fields. In popular culture, Ancient Greece and Rome are portrayed substantially in books and movies; however, not many people are aware of how they also shape our thoughts, ideals, and motivations. Through an analysis of classical elements often portrayed in popular media, this essay attempts to illustrate how the representation of ancient Greece and Rome in books and movies influence our lives and emphasize the need to stay informed as these influences can be both beneficial and detrimental to our perception of the world. The way ancient culture can impact our ideals is demonstrated by various contemporary adaptations of Greek mythology. For instance, in 1997, Walt Disney produced the animated movie Hercules, based on stories about the legendary Greek hero who persevered through numerous labors and challenges and eventually gained a place in Mount Olympus, the home of the gods. Hercules was a major box office hit among children and had left a deep impression on how they perceive the qualities of a hero. Similarly, the 2004 film Troy, based loosely on Homer s the Iliad, tells the story of the hero Achilles and the Trojan War. Troy was a critical success, grossing nearly 500 million dollars worldwide. The little research that does exist argue that 12 step programs are not structured for comorbid individual, they may not be the best option for mild substance use disorder, and the central theme of powerlessness can conflict with a therapist s theoretical orientation and be harmful to the therapeutic alliance. (Kelly Myers, 2007, Laudet et al., 2004, L, Ingvarson, Richard, 1995). The National Institute of Mental Health (2013) has found that 43.6 million adults aged 18 and older have at least one mental illness and 45 percent of individuals with one mental disorder met criteria for two or more disorders. Many studies have found that clients with a dual diagnosis experience increased rates of hospitalization and increased use of emergency services (Helzer Pryzbeck, 1998). It is easy to imagine how hospitalization can interrupt treatment by making it difficulty for individuals to attend. Nursing Self Regulation Essay A profession can be defined as a prestigious occupation with a high degree of identification among its member that requires a length and rigorous education in an intellectually demanding and theoretically based course of study; that engages in rigorous self regulation and control; that holds authority over clients; and that puts service to society above simple self interest (Schwirian, 1998, p. 6). Nursing is just that, and with its specific body of knowledge, standards, and codes of ethics, it is only fitting that it be self regulated (College of Nurses of Ontario, 2012). The College of Nurses works with registered nurses, registered practical nurses, and nurse practioners to determine whether or not standards and best practices are met and that the public s safety is protected. Specific Knowledge Self regulation is the idea of a professional group entering an agreement with the government to regulate their activities of their members (Canadian Nurses Association, 2007). This allows the government to have a small role in the control over the practice of the profession and the services that the members provide, but they do not have to gain in depth expertise to regulate the profession that would be needed if it were under direct regulation. • 22. Summary Of Two Sisters By Ama Ata Aidoo s Two Sister Even though youngest siblings always try to do what they can to not be compared to their siblings, being the youngest does not always have perks. We do not get as much attention like our older siblings do and we sometimes do not feel the same love the parents give to their first born. While reading through the story, Two Sisters, Ama Ata Aidoo brought up interesting dynamics. Connie is the elder sister who takes well care of her family and as a wife who married to her husband, James. Throughout the story, we see that Connie advises Mercy to stop dating older men. The story states that the two do not have their parents to guide them; so, Connie being the oldest took the responsibility to look after her sister. I have two older siblings, Samuel, 24 and Lorena, 21. I can relate in a way to Mercy, because being the younger sister, we try to live in the other direction of our siblings to avoid comparisons. I am different from my brother and sister, and I always try to live my life. We may have some similarities, personality wise, but we live life very differently. Constantly family and friends tell me why aren t you like your brother and sister? or if your brother or sister were here, they would know what to do, why can t you be like them? In fact when gasoline prices rise to levels above $3 and $4 dollars and even up to $5 a gallon it hurts the economy because it hurts consumers. This paper focuses on gasoline prices and how gasoline prices affect the way Americans drive their cars and trucks. Thesis: Notwithstanding the cynical view that gasoline distributors are manipulating prices to gouge consumers, the literature reflects that prices rise and fall in most cases primarily based on market driven forces, and on problems with refineries. Moreover, when the government sets higher mileage standards for vehicles, it means cars go a lot farther on a gallon notwithstanding the price of that gallon of gasoline. Allah has sent messengers to convey to the human kind what is legal and illegal for them. He gave His creation different abilities; however, He has given humans the ability to obey or disobey Him. Among the messengers that God has sent, one is Mohammed (PBUH). He was given the Quran, the Word of God, to disclose the commandments of Allah. The loyalty of dogs makes them beneficial for protection, hunting, and detection of explosives and drugs; Nevertheless, Muslims cannot have any physical contact with them because of their impure saliva. However, there are instances where state courts have influences from the decisions of cases in the Commonwealth courts. In the ruling made in the case Kable v Director of public prosecution1996 189 CLR51.This case forbid states court exceeding federal jurisdiction. Therefore, State Supreme courts rely on decisions of federal courts and vice versa (Harris, 2013). In the separation of powers there is the doctrine that courts cannot be vested with non judicial power and federal judicial powers cannot be vested in a state court. It goes that if a court exercises non judicial power, then separation of powers will be violated. The states do not have explicit separation of powers in their respective constitutions. Parliament is able to vest judicial federal powers with non judicial powers so long as they do not undermine their integrity. • 36. The Impact Of Viking Raids On The British Isles Coming from Scandinavian countries, predominantly Denmark and Norway, the Vikings began raiding the British Isles in the late 700s (James). The Vikings primarily targeted monasteries, because that is where most of the wealth was concentrated (Loughrey). These raids were very violent, people were killed, and the survivors were sold into slavery (Loughrey). These violent raids earned the Vikings the reputation of barbarians, much like the Mongols a few centuries later in Asia. After some time, once the Vikings exhausted most of the wealth in the monasteries, they turned their interest into settling the British Isles (James). By the late 9th century the Vikings had conquered most of England (James). However, even though these Viking kingdoms did not last very long, the Scandinavians who resided there stayed. These Scandinavians would go on to change the British Isles in many ways. Despite the violent and negative impacts of Viking raids on the British Isles, once the Vikings settled down, they had a significant and positive peaceful impact on the British Isles culturally, politically, and economically. The first of these positive impacts was on the culture of the British Isles. One of the ways that the Vikings influenced the culture is evidenced by how they changed the English language. • 41. Jerome David Salinger Research Paper Jerome David Salinger, more commonly known as J. D. Salinger, was an American author and novelist. Despite leading a highly reclusive lifestyle and having only a narrow body of work, Salinger is seen as a literary giant. While his short stories inspired many famous authors, his controversial 1951 work, The Catcher in the rye, has become a landmark novel and a household name. Salinger was born in New York City on New Year s Day, 1919 to Sol and Miriam Salinger. His father, Sol, was a successful Kosher cheese and meat importer of Jewish and Lithuanian descent. Miriam (born Marie née Jillich), his mother, was Scotch Irish but later converted to Judaism after marrying Salinger s father. Similar to the characters in his stories, his family lived ... Today The Catcher in the Rye has sold over 60 million copies and continues to sell around a quarter million each year. It has become a staple for most school curriculums in the US and UK. The widespread success of his novel pushed Salinger to long for privacy. He refused as many interviews as possible and even had his photo removed from the back covers of each book. To escape the public eye he fled to England for two months. In 1953, only two years after the release of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger packed his things and moved to a 90 acre property in Cornish, New Hampshire. His new home had no running water, electricity, or working telephone. During this time he did everything in his power to isolate himself from the public and his literary output came to an abrupt halt. In a rare 1962 interview with The New York Times Salinger said Publishing is a terrible invasion of my privacy. I like to write. I love to write. But I write just for myself and my own pleasure. Well whatever you are reading this on prepare to empty you re wallet s because this new technology will surly brighten your day! LED s or Light Emitting Diodes have been around since the 60 s and I think they are starting to decline. The new technology slowly replacing LED s are OLED s or Organic Light Emitting Diodes. Now these are special because they contain small quantities of organic material such as carbon. OLED s feature many vase improvements over its older friend LED s, these include: flexibility, durability, transparency and the list goes on! Although this all comes with an unfortunately large price tag. While OLED s are a great technology nowadays they have not always been so advanced. The first working OLED was created in 1987 by Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak. Although this was the first technically working OLED, electroluminescence the principle OLED s use was first reported in 1953 by A. Bernanose, M. Comte, and P. Vonaux, using a high voltage electrical field. Electroluminescence is when a material emits light in response to the passage of an electric current or to a strong electric field being applied through the substance (J. Chim p.50, 64.). • 44. Belonging In The Secret Garden By Frances Hodgson Burnett Has there ever been a place where you just felt like you belonged? For Mary, the secret garden was that place. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett has the theme of belonging. This essay will be covering how Mary, Colin, Mrs. Medlock, and Lord Craven all applied to the theme in their own way whether it be for better or for worse. Also, what scenes and symbols were useful and played an important role to the theme of belonging. First off, Mary shows how this theme applies to her in many ways, but the scene when Mary first discovers the garden really stands out. This part in the movie is a major key to the whole story. She is discovering a place that was close to her mother and aunt s heart, and besides the ivory elephant, the garden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of that scene happening she asked why he had to stay in his room. She talked about how he doesn t belong in his room all of the time. She then learned that it was because he was a premature baby, and they normally die soon after birth, so for everyday of his whole life he had the mindset that he would die. This described why his room was completely dark, not just because he couldn t be exposed but because darkness represents death. • 45. Naoto In Detective Prince From the outside, Naoto seems cool, calm, and collected. At times she can come off as cold or unemotional, but only because, despite her small stature, she attempts to put on the air of someone much more mature than her age. Through this demeanor (and while masquerading as a male), she earned the title of Detective Prince, and was a consultant of the police, although she also often worked on her own. Even with this exterior, however, it s easier to illicit an emotional reaction out of Naoto than it first appears. This is especially true when dealing with a case, or when someone close to her is being threatened. Despite her serious appearance, she can act quite childish and narrow minded at times. Her work and her job is one of her driving forces; her parents were both detectives, and died during an investigation when she was young. Partly out of adoration and partly to find her place, she started training soon after the accident to become a detective and continue the Shirogane line. It s no small matter; Naoto is a workaholic. Although she works as a consultant for the police, she is also often on her own, and will fall just short of doing anything to solve a case. When it became obvious that the police had arrested the wrong suspect in the Inaba murders, Naoto acts as a decoy (and the next victim) by readily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Review Of Atul Gawande s The New York Times Bestseller... In the New York Times bestseller Being Mortal, surgeon and author Atul Gawande tackles just what may be the most difficult challenge of his profession, learning how to handle the end of life process. Throughout his book, he recites the stories of several individuals, in which the trajectory from a state of independence to one of death can easily be traced in each. Although Gawande does acknowledge that death is inevitable, he emphasizes that individuals of society, especially those that work in the health care field, have not yet learned how to deal with this slow process well, if at all. Surprisingly, he does not blame patients or the intrinsic difficulty that death itself brings, but in fact is relentless in the criticism of his fellow physicians, stating we ve been wrong about what our job is in medicine. We think our job is to ensure health and survival...it is to enable well being. (Gawande, Atul. Being Mortal pp.259) This paper aims to further analyze Gawande s position on end of life care, understand why palliative care must play a larger role than interventional medicine during a patient s last few weeks and determine whether a physician s role during this crucial time should be that of a healer or a sustainer of the soul. Before we can discuss palliative care, interventional medicine and the role of physicians in both of these settings, it is integral to understand Gawande s position surrounding end of life care. After all, not only is he a practicing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
