Gender Roles And Gender Inequality
and girls when women already earn less than men in economic spheres ( Fact Sheet , 2010). The
underlying gender roles and gender inequality that persists in South Africa help not only to explain
their unbelievably difficult daily burdens but it also aids in the understanding of the lack of economic
and political representation of women in the region (Bentley, 2004).
Within South Africa there is a significant gap in the lack of opportunity and representation of women
within the economic and political sphere, which directly correlates to their poverty. Often times the
universal equality and importance of all members of society is not often respected, this is evident in
the histories and devastations of apartheid in South Africa, but also in ... Show more content on

The economic and political empowerment of women not only would improve the lives of women, but
of the children that depend on them and the direct and extended family members that rely on the help
of women, in which the HIV/AIDS epidemic has heightened (Schreiner, Mohapi Koppen, 2004).
Females are more likely than men to live in households below the poverty line, lack the economic and
political power to improve their status due to their underrepresentation, and thus lack the ability and
clout to influence policy in ways that can bring social services or developmental status to women in
need. Advocating for the educational and political achievement of women leads other young girls to
see this and strive to be successful, breaking the cycle of disenfranchised women. Women in
leadership can also help to promote and create opportunities for other women, and may also help to
engage in policy making that will be more effective because they bring a greater level of
understanding to the issues at hand. For example, a recent effort in South Africa to expand the
development of female lawmakers helped advance legislation promoting gender equality such as
providing equal land rights to women and ensuring reproductive rights (Diop, 2015). Increasing the
educational achievement of women within South Africa could

Myths And Fairy Tales Essay
Myths and fairy tales are universal stories that help connect people from different backgrounds to their
own history and culture. Fairy tales give the reader with adventures, and how good always defeats
evil, while myths present us with heroes going through incredible hardship and at the same time, they
represent the fundamental values of our society. These stories help us develop an understanding of the
cultural values and how the human mind works. Myths and fairy tales continue to change through time
to adapt according to the values and reflections of the current cultural norms we are currently living.
Movies have become a platform to tell myths and fairy tales in a visual way to different age groups
and different cultures. A movie that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Animals have been associated with magic for a long time. These enchanted pets were commonly used
to diagnose illnesses, to find sources of magic and to find treasures. It was not until the Middle Ages
and the rise of Christianity that these pets were considered evil. They started to be considered as
demons or evil spirits in animal form, sent out by a witch to do their evil bidding. In Harry Potter,
each of the before mentioned pets is associated in mythology in different ways: The Owl has always
been associated with death, sorcery and the dark side of life. The owls would go with witches on their
broomsticks and carry out their evil commands. Cats have always been associated with witches. A
witch was reputed to own a cat as a familiar pet and they were believed to embody demons and used
for spells.
In the wizardry world of Harry Potter, a magic wand had to be obtained to attend Hogwarts School of
Magic. A wand was a thin, handheld stick made of wood, stone or metals. It was a tool used to channel
the energy and magic of the witch. In Egyptian mythology, the magic wand is mentioned and in Greco
Roman mythology, the god Hermes had a special wand called a caduceus. In almost every childhood
story and fairy tale we have read, all the magical beings like the fairy godmother in Cinderella and
Sleeping Beauty, they all use a magic wand

Western Dialysis
Executive Summary Western Dialysis Clinic is an independent, non profit full service rental dialysis
clinic. The clinic currently provides two types of treatments, which include Hemodialysis (HD) and
Peritoneal (PD). The existing system used by Western Dialysis Clinic is the traditional ratio of cost to
charges (RCC) method. Under this system the traceable supply costs are assigned directly to the two
types of treatment. And also currently both the treatments seem profitable. Due to this David Thomas,
the controller of Western Dialysis has recognized two major issues: First, the procedure currently
being used to assign common expenses may not be correctly presenting the underlying use of the
common resources by two different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As it can be seen this traditional system shows both the procedures to be profitable for the clinic. But
there were several concerns regarding this procedure as projected by the controller of the clinic, since
the traditional system may not be assigning the common expenses to accurately represent the
underlying use of the common resources used by HD and PD. Therefore there is a need shown by the
controller to explore the activity based costing system to understand the costs netter, which can more
accurately calculate the profitability of the two procedures in order to assist the managers to make
more informed decisions. This has been performed in the following breakdown where the general
overhead category, nursing services and equipment costs have been the focus of the analysis, to obtain
a better understanding of the costs at Western Dialysis Clinic. Phase I General Overhead Category The
initial analysis consists of focusing on the general overhead category. For the nursing and the
equipment costs, the allocation is 85% towards HD and 15% towards PD based on staff s experience
rather than using the traditional RCC method. (For detailed analysis please refer to exhibit 3). In this
phase the General Overhead category is divided into four resource cost pools. The four cost pools
consist of facility costs, administration and support staff, communications systems and

The Importance Of Credit Licensee
A credit licensee (that is, the holder of an Australian Credit Licence, commonly referred to as an ACL
holder) must comply with the responsible lending conduct obligations in Chapter 3 of the National
Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (Cth) (NCCP Act). These obligations relate to the conduct of the
credit licensee when engaging in credit activity. Under the NCCP Act, credit activity includes:
providing credit under a credit contract or consumer lease; benefiting from mortgages or guarantees
relating to a credit contract; exercising rights or performing obligations of a credit provider or lessor
(either as the credit provider or lessor or on behalf of another person who is the credit provider or
lessor); suggesting or assisting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We will do so by running through a number of checkpoints , as set out below. Checkpoint 1 whether
the loan is regulated What is a regulated loan? Many credit licensees provide credit in both the
regulated and unregulated space. The term regulated is used for consumer loans and leases as they are
regulated by the National Credit Code (NCC), which is a schedule to the NCCP Act. Loans and leases
will be regulated under the NCCP Act if, amongst other things, it is provided or is intended to be
provided wholly or predominantly for personal, domestic or household purposes or to refinance
residential investment property. Generally, this means that unless the loan applicant (referred to as the
borrower in this course) is clearly able to establish that the finance will be used predominantly for
business purposes, the loan should be treated as a consumer regulated loan. This also means that the
responsible lending obligation to assess unsuitability applies. Practical tips In practice, this means a
credit provider needs to make reasonable inquiries from each borrower as to the purpose for which
they will be using the borrowed funds. If the credit will be used for personal, domestic or household
purposes, the loan must be originated as a consumer loan, and compliance with the responsible
lending obligation to assess

Macbeth Pathetic Fallacy Essay
I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o er vales and hills (William Wordsworth, I Wandered
Lonely as a Cloud). Wordsworth uses pathetic fallacy to deepen the meaning behind the poem, as seen
here, by stating I wandered lonely as a cloud...vales and hills , as opposed to simply saying, I
wandered lonely . Similarly, in Shakespeare s, Macbeth, pathetic fallacy deepens the plot with use of
nature allegories. Firstly, at the beginning of the play, the weather of thunder and lightning symbolises
a gloomy event to occur, in which, three murtherers kill Banquo. Secondly, with the air being
somewhat mysterious, odd events begin to happen, which lead to Macbeth s death. Finally, with a
cloudy sky overhead, the darkness symbolises ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pathetic fallacy in this statement is the quality and condition of the air is a sign that odd events
will come. Continuing on, when Macduff and Macbeth meet in Macbeth s castle at the end of the play,
Macbeth states that only a man who is not born from a woman can kill him. Macduff counters back to
Macbeth that , And let the angel whom thou still hast served / Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother
s womb / Untimely ripped (5.8.14 16). Macduff states that because of being cut out the womb as
opposed to being born naturally, Macduff is the one who is to kill Macbeth. The analogy of the foggy
and filthy air giving light to odd events to come lead to Macbeth s death because Macduff fits the
description the apparition gave Macbeth. Last but not least, Fleance s note to Banquo about not being
able to see the moon foreshadows of an incoming evil deed, which ends up being Duncan s death.
Banquo and FLeance are sitting outside of Macduff s castle and Banquo asks if Fleance knows what
time it is, and Fleance responds with, The moon is down. I have not heard the clock (2.1.2). Fleance is
unable to tell the time to Banquo because of the lack of moon to alarm the bell of midnight, showing
that the weather is cloudy. Adding on, due to the weather, the event of an evil deed does happen, in the
form of Duncan s death in the hands of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth approaches Duncan s room, when
Macbeth asks who is there and

Edward Jenner the Creator of the Vaccine for Smallpox Essay
Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth century a disease dominated the world killing one in three
people who caught it, smallpox. The few that survived the disease were left with very disfigured
bodies and weak immune systems. In modern days this disease seems very unusual and hard to catch;
it is all because of one man, Edward Jenner.
Edward Jenner, the father of immunology , was born on May 17, 1749. He was one of nine siblings
and he was treated for smallpox for a very long period of his childhood. I predict that his treatment to
small pox as an infant encouraged his work into creating the vaccine for smallpox itself. It is said that
his work saved more lives than the work of any other human . He found the similarities of cowpox ...

Finally Jenner had his proof but he just needed more cases to prove its credibility.
To find his proof he traveled to Europe to try and gather volunteers to test his vaccination. After three
months of talking around and attempting to get test subjects he was unsuccessful. He was very
desperate and wanted to prove his theory but with his hopes denied in Europe he had to take another
big step to try and prove his results. It took a global wide survey to find some people to test his theory
o and confirm his results. From there his vaccine was acknowledged globally.
With a vaccine to one of the world s deadliest diseases for the time Jenner was awarded with several
honors and awards. Along with those honors and awards he was given a lot of cash prizes as an
addition to the world s thanks. Unlike plenty of other scientists or most people he did not use his
money to become known as a wealthy figure. Jenner used almost all of his money to create vaccines
for the poor and to continue researching other topics.
He was so dedicated into helping the poor or anybody who desperately needed the vaccine that he
built a hut in his garden that he called the temple of vaccinia . In that he vaccinated the poor for free
anytime he had the chance to or whenever he had the resources. Sometimes Jenner did not have the
appropriate resources to create a vaccine for his patients inside of the temple of vaccinia. It never
failed that

The Pros And Cons Of Air Traffic Control
Since the very beginning of air travel, the Federal Aviation Administration s National Air Traffic
Control (ATC) system has kept passengers safe and moved people and goods with unmatched
efficiency, and it has continually evolved to meet the needs of the aviation industry. However, many
have sought to hand over control of the ATC system to a private entity, separate from the FAA,
dominated by the airlines, and unaccountable to the public. The latest of these effort comes in the form
of a renewed push endorsed by President Donald Trump, in a misguided attempt to Make Air Travel
Great Again. What would come with private ATC would be just the opposite: rising costs passed on to
airline passengers and general aviation operations, and funds shifted from local general aviation (GA)
airports to the nation s hub airports, and unfair access to the nation s skies favoring the airlines and
leaving GA behind. Since the invention of flight, the sky over America have been free for anyone to
use, but this may no longer be the case. The costs to the aviation industry will be staggering. Pilots,
controllers, and other aviation professionals have not accepted a private ATC system in the past and
must resist it again for the love of flying.
Privatization of government services and agencies has long been a proposed solution to rising costs,
delayed updates, and inconsistent budgets that federal agencies currently have to deal with. Air Traffic
Control is no exception. Rep. Bill Shuster

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Comparison
The movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Mel Stuart, and Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory, directed by Tim Burton, are both outstanding artwork that impressed the public. In
this essay, I will examine how the Burton achieved to convert the genre of the previous movie to
attract audiences from different centuries and examine how Berger s and Lethem s claims relate to my
observations.
Stuart s imagination of the chocolate factory was the first attempt to translate Dahl s book from text
into visual. Before the creation, there was no alike movie existed. Without any expectations from
viewers, they were amazed to this interpretation of the fantasy. When Burton reproduced the movie,
the one of a kind idea was refined. It was no longer a unique existence (Berger, 520). Stuart s movie
was no longer unique by its creative imagery, it is unique because it is the original of Burton s ... Show

The old version only had a standing camera to record everything the actors could do to express their
emotions. In comparison, Burton used computer graphics and various filming techniques in order to
increase the video quality. In the way that Lethem said, technology had increased the chances for
people to expand their creativity. It was easy to copy and paste something then add a twist to become
their own (673). The combination contained old and new ideas. Everything is a mixture of something
belonged to the past. The Oompa Loompas was introduced with green skin and orange hair by Stuart.
Burton exaggerated the character with an even more shocking appearance. Lethem claimed that old
and new make the warp and woof of every moment (686). Without reusing the past ideas, creativity
would be lost. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was a well known movie in the 70 s, but there

The West Vs. Reality
The West Versus Reality
Since the beginning of history, the rise and descent of civilizations has molded history influencing
what nations have become today. The approach of using a strong military and a dynamic economy can
be seen as template for civilizations when trying to dominate parts of the world since this template has
been consistently used. The Clash of Civilizations, an essay by Samuel P. Huntington, argues that, as a
result of the Cold War, global politics would be centered around the conflicts between the world s
civilizations. Huntington perceives the conflict between Islam and the West an extremely impactful
conflict. However, The Clash of Ignorance, a literary piece by Edward W. Said, critiques and
disapproves Huntington s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His argument would have been significantly stronger if he showed the darker side of the West as
opposed to making it appear like the West never did anything resulting in a negative impact.
Huntington emphasizes the importance of culture within a civilization by describing it as a cultural
entity (Huntington 2). Culture, along with history, language, and religion, is what distinguishes
civilizations from each other (Huntington 2). Similarly, he speaks about the significance of being
aware of one s own civilization and what makes it unique from others. He describes this awareness
using term civilization consciousness and believes that this awareness can sometimes lead to conflict
(Huntington 3). This idea is similar to the idea of nationalism. Nationalism is commonly used to
engender a sense unity within civilizations with the goal of fighting external forces, but nationalism
can be certainly dangerous. For instance, in the film Promises and Betrayals, Arabs and Jews had an
ongoing conflict after the British promised them their independence, which made them victims of their
own sense of nationalism. However, Huntington also mentions actions like Asianization and re
Islamization that have the goal of understanding cultural differences showing the non violent side of
civilization consciousness (Huntington 4). An increase in tolerance to

Abstract
There are many benefits for jail diversionary programs in the state of Kentucky. Nonviolent offenders,
family members, judicial systems, and the jails can benefit from keeping these people out of jail and in
society.
I was surprised to find, during my research very few negatives to these programs around the country.

My Career Goal ( Your Career Goals )
1. Career Goals (Your career goals) She was a five year old girl with skinny chicken legs, oversized
glasses, and the most contagious smile you ve ever seen. Every morning for three years, it was this
smiling face that greeted me with an obnoxious wave and anxious enthusiasm as I drove up a long
gravel driveway to a small farmhouse in Granite Falls, Minnesota. As a teen, I worked as a personal
care assistant for young clients suffering physical and intellectual delays. It was the morning I was
pulling in for my final shift that I recognized that helping this little girl reach her full potential by
aiding in her daily activities was a small stepping stone to reaching my goal of earning my doctorate
degree in nursing. Although it was on that specific day that I determined I would pursue a career in
advanced nursing, I have been in love with learning and the healthcare industry for as long as I can
remember. From learning to ride a bike to starting my first IV, I have always blissfully awaited every
lesson and anxiously sought to conquer its content. My intellectual curiosity has continuously driven
me to seek out more knowledge and I ve regularly employed my focus and commitment skills to grasp
complex issues and ideas. My primary goal for completing the graduate program is to obtain the
knowledge and skills necessary to assume a more autonomous role in healthcare. My hope is that by

The Globalization Of The Cocoa Industry In The Mayan Economy
Globalization is a predominant term in global politics today, but it is a more complex issue than some
may perceive it to be. While it has enabled a remarkably integrated global political landscape and fast
tracked the international economy, these new global networks also exposed the full extent of economic
and power imbalances between states. Powerful western states and corporations have used global
integration to exploit states that are rich in highly sought after resources, but not strong or secure
enough to protect these resources from external actors. The worldwide cocoa industry has expanded
profoundly since its emergence in Mesoamerican culture in the 15th century, and this industry has
become a microcosm of western dominance in the global economy. The exploitation of Latin
American and African countries at the hands of western corporate enterprises is an ongoing trend in
cocoa production; however, hope rests in corporate social responsibility and the fair trade movement
to dramatically alter the global production network of cocoa going forward.
Cocoa has an illustrious history which initially began with the Mayans around 500 BCE in
Mesoamerica, the region that would later make up Mexico and some surrounding nations (Kermani
2006). With no access to external sweeteners like sugar, the cocoa of this era had a bitter taste which
differs greatly from what is recognized as chocolate today. Since Mayan civilization did not possess
the resources to create a solid, edible

Iago Cheating In Othello
A real relationship will last beyond the rumors. Many would believe the wise person that once said
this was speaking of Othello and Desdemona from William Shakespeare s famous play, Othello. These
two characters were much in love at the beginning of the play, however, Iago, a character seeking
revenge of Othello, twisted the love into hatred as the play moves on. Iago drew the attention of,
allured, and rationalized several reasons why Othello should believe that Desdemona is cheating on
him. All in all, as Iago continues to poison Othello, Othello s mind becomes more and more infected
with lies.
At first, Iago drew Othello s attention towards Cassio, the charming soldier, and Desdemona. He
pointed out that the two had been spending a lot of time together. This is shown in Othello when Iago
says, Ha! I like not that... Nothing, my lord, or if I know not what... Cassio, my lord? No, sure, I
cannot think it that he would steal away so guilty like seeing you coming (3.3.!). Here, Iago purposely
catches the attention of Othello to make him see his wife with his friend, so it will lead Othello to
thinking what they could possibly be doing together. From this, Othello s mind begins to stir and he

Obstacles In The Titans
The T.C. William Titans fought and overcame many obstacles throughout the season. Some of these
obstacles included racism, the team falling apart, and biased referees. Even though all odds were
against them, the Titans pulled through and managed to win the state championship. The first, and
main obstacle that the Titans faced was racism. Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie,
but was worst in the beginning as the team had not learned to accept each other yet. White players and
parents didn t want black players or a black coach, and many wanted to boycott T.C. Williams for
allowing it. Head coach, Herman Boone, solved this at the team s camp by forcing the players to get to
know each other, or face practice multiple times a day. Racism continued throughout the movie,
mostly from people outside of the team, but there was occasional racial tension within the team. The

Contrasting Views Of Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Jefferson
From 1789 to 1799, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were two powerful leaders who had
contrasting views on how government should function. This time period was known as the Federalist
era. Two political factions were forming. One was the Federalists and they supported a strong federal
government. The other was the Democratic Republicans, who were strong adovotactews of state s
rights. George Washington was elected the first President of the United States and was determined to
do his job. He appointed Thomas Jefferson, a Democratic Republican, as his secretary of state and
Alexander Hamilton, a Federalist, as the secretary of the treasury. The French Revolution in 1789 ,

They differed on their views on the common man, who should be able to vote, and their thoughts on
special privilege. Hamilton did not have faith that the common man could be intrusted with the affairs
of the government. The people are turbulent and changing: they seldom judge or determine right,
according to Hamilton. This meant he supported the idea of high voting requirements which did not
allow the lower classes to vote. He believed the wealthy had the special privilege to control society
and the government. Hamilton can be quoted saying, Give therefore to the first class a distinct,
permanent share in the government. Since he was such a fierce supporter of the wealthy, the taxes he

The Reigns Of David, Hezekiah And Josiah
After many centuries of being under the rule of judges, the Israelites finally ask Samuel to appoint a
king, making Israel like most other nations being ruled as monarchies. This request leads to the
appointing of the first king of Israel, Saul, followed by centuries of kings (1 Samuel 8 9). A large
majority of these kings have been deemed to be bad kings, leaving only a small handful to be
considered good. In general, these kings are given such labels for their actions and policies throughout
their time of power. This paper will discuss the reigns of David, Hezekiah and Josiah and what makes
them considered good kings, as well as Ahab and Manasseh and the actions that deemed them to be
bad kings. Throughout the history of Israel and Judah, there have been very few kings that are
classified by scholars as being good. The king in which all other kings are measured up to, and
possibly the most widely known, would be David. He is actually stated to be the most fully developed
character in the Hebrew bible (Coogan 255). David took reign after Saul and at this time Israel was
still a united monarchy. His success as a king can be contributed to both his character and relationship
with God. David s talent as a warrior can be seen when he so effortlessly conquers the massive
Philistine, Goliath. He also exhibited political and military strength as a double agent working for the
Israelites while living amongst the Philistines, all while conquering the enemies of Israel.

Phineas P. Gage was born in 1823. He was a railroad construction worker outside a small town of
Cavendish, Vermont. On September 13, 1848, Phineas suffered from a traumatic brain injury, which

The Awakening Of Austria
The world of the early 20th century was a brewing cesspit of nationalism and militarism coupled with
isolationism and web of alliances. One might have noted if they lived at such a t time that war was
inevitable, but no one was quite sure how such a conflict could arise after many of the world powers
had consolidated in military alliances with each other. The ultimate irony of this mindset is that the
alliances that were meant to bring about endless peace, would lead to the greatest war ever seen on the
face of the earth. The forging of these alliances divided the prewar world powers in half, which only
heightened any instances of conflict between each side. The ability for anything that normally wouldn

many people perceive the conflict and places the blame on Germany and Russia aside from the Serbs

Kennewick Man Essay
Kennewick Man has been an ongoing controversy among the archaeologists and Native American
communities. Scientists believe that the studying of Kennewick Man is crucial to understanding the
earliest of human history on the American continent, as he provides a rare opportunity to look at well
preserved, mostly intact, ancient American remains. They feel that repatriation should not occur until
they are able to study the skeleton enough to identify which cultural group he belongs to. Native
American communities disagree, as they feel that scientists and the public disregard and disrespect the
value of their religious beliefs. However, remains should not be repatriated to a Native group of it is

NAGPRA promises Native groups that remains would be returned to them if the remains were
associated with their group, however Kennewick man does not necessarily belong to any specific
group at this point in time. There are two perspectives to this dilemma: the Native perspective valuing
the sacredness of the remains, and the scientific perspective valuing the eagerness to study the remains
(Lee, 2008). Stories written by Donald Sampson and Rechanda Lee give insight on the Native
perspective arguing that science is degrading Native American identity and disrespecting the culture
and religion (Lee, 2008). They do not like that the graves of their ancestors are disturbed and dissected
to be studied (Sampson, 2008). Traditional histories are important to Native American communities as
it provides identity and lineage linked to their respected communities. Natives feel that a group of
scientists should not be telling them what their history is as they have faith in what is passed down to
them orally (Lee, 2008). Many Natives feel as if scientists need to show respect and let the Native
communities be heard. (Lee, 2008). Scientists, however, are addressing Principle No.2 of the
Principles of Archaeological Ethics as identifying the remains and associating them to a certain group
determines who the remains actually belong to. Both Lee and Sampson argue that using the cranial
morphology of Kennewick man to determine his race is the result of irrationality and imagination.
Both of the passages that they wrote claim to be addressing the scientific aspect of Kennewick man,
however they seem to be writing with a strong emotional language rather than scientific. In Sampson s
case, for example, he seems to be personally attacking the scientists involved with Kennewick man
rather than the scientific evidence provided. The only scientific evidence that was addressed in these

Emily Dickinson s The Narrow Fellow In The Grass
The Narrow Fellow in The Grass is a poem by Emily Dickinson who portrays the hidden creature in
the grass. In the starting we are curious to learn more about the creature and figure out its character.
Halfway through the poem, the poetess gives evidences of the snake s constant appearances and
disappearances. This tends the reader to perceive the snake to be a trickster leading to a sense of
deception. Deception is very relevant to the prevailing occurrences. One finest example can be false
advertising. False advertising is something which is misleading and can be unpredictable. The sellers
advertise their products and services to draw attention from the customers. Such advertisements are to
deceive the customers. The sellers want to obtain new clients by misrepresenting the features and its
appearance from their natural structure or pattern. Usually, such ads hide their cons and embellish
their pros. One of the case where false advertisements have been too deceptive is an advertisement by
Wal Mart. It had advertised a nationwide sale on coke. It charged the customers more than the
advertised sale price in more than hundred stores. Further, it was determined that the cash ... Show

Duty to Warn and Duty to Protect: Need Further Solutions
Thirty years ago, the California Supreme Court had highlighted the doctor s duty to warn through the

the precedents established by the two Tarasoff cases, in a specific relationship, the professional doctor

Benefits Of Girl Scouts
The Girl Scouts started in 1912 with only a small number of girls. Juliette Low, the founder, was
inspired to create the Girl Scouts after she went to a party in 1912. At this party, she met Robert Baden
Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, and wanted to create a similar program of the opposite gender.
In present time, there are now millions of participating girls in this organization. Starting at the age of
5, a girl can enlist to become a Girl Scout and partake in the activities that range from hiking to
camping to selling cookies. The starting rank is Daisy which is grades Kindergarten to first grade. The
top and final rank is Ambassador which is grades eleven to twelve. This program is a success because
it has created women of high status after they left, does not discriminate against others when
recruiting, but it has also lost the initial perspective from when it was originally created. The Girl
Scouts are a success because the women that have graduated from the program have become women
of high status in the world. Of the twenty one female senators that are currently serving, 75% of
current female senators were girl scouts (GirlScouts.org 1). To become a senator for a state, you must

To complete Guernica, Picasso bounces of ideas from Goya s The 3rd of May. In Picasso painting
there lies dead soldier has a stigmata on his hand that is a representation of the crucifixion. This refers
back to Goya s main focus, the prisoner in white. This prisoner is being illuminated by the only source
of artificial light present in the painting. With his arms raised it seem as once a plea for mercy, and a
mirror image of the crucifixion. This is an evocation of christ s agony on the cross, which refers back
to the stigmata present in Picasso s Guernica. Guernica was indeed one of Picasso s greatest creations.
The Minotauromachy depicts Picasso s hardships and how he had to overcome them throughout his
life. This painting is a very provocative scene, that contains a variety of symbolic imagery. In this
painting there is a variety of meanings such as, good and evil, violence and innocence, and suffering
and salvation. The flower girl that is holding the only source of light present in this painting, is
symbolic for a guide through the darkness,as well as tenderness and bravery. The bull headed

U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association
(AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an
inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that a
comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a
community (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any
breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87 year old
woman ( 2005 dog bite fatalities ). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered
dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed
identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials think it looks
like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so
called dangerous breeds. For example, a Labrador Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but
are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like Rottweilers. The deciding
factor is not breed, it is ownership. Irresponsible ownership in the form of poor care, neglect, etc.
results in a potentially dangerous dog. Irresponsible owners will just get a dog that is not banned

Early Pacific Northwest History Essay
The first three major eras of the Pacific Northwest show some remarkable changes. What begins with
the first people rapidly becomes a barrage of settlers, development and the harvesting of resources.
Each period of time in the PNW brings changes in the people, the geography, and the culture. First is
the Era of the First People. Scientific theories suggest that man first came to the PNW via land bridges
from Russia or perhaps waterways. Some legends suggest a similar nomadic journey following the
migrating animals or the work of spirits or Gods who created companions for a lonely human; usually

The next era is that of Contact and Trade. Just after declaring independence from British rule, Captain
James Cook began an exploration of the PNW on behalf of the newly formed thirteen colonies of the
United States. Seeking the ever elusive Northwest Passage, Cook instead found himself docked in
Nootka Sound to repair his ships. Here he traded trinkets for local furs, an unexpected valuable
treasure. Cook also made stops in Alaska and wintered in Hawaii. Following Cook, more explorations
from the U.S., France, Britain, Russian, and Spain soon sought to discover the treasures however
unknown they remained and claim them as their own. The changes brought on by these new explorers
were vast ranging from depletion of local population due to unfamiliar European diseases to new
settlements to increased harvesting of resources. There were also treaties made with the native Indians
for land or goods. Still seeking the Northwest Passage, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark began an

of the west and PNW than anyone up to that time. Among journals of native plants, native people, and

More specifically, the ethos, pathos, and logos that they employ, as well the way in which the evidence
and support is presented will further elucidate upon the arguments that appear in both articles.

She cites a 2008 Carnegie Mellon University study, for example, to state how not eating red meat and
diary just one day of the week can achieve just as much in greenhouse gas reductions as simply just
eating local, organic food. Her argument though does suffer a bit when she begins to talk about the
morality and ethics of eating meat. She doesn t back up her assertions with too many facts at this point
and mainly uses her opinion at times as enough justification. Her mentioning of humane meat being an
oxymoron and how it weighs on the consciences of its advocates seems to be more of her own drawn
conclusions than a fact. Nonetheless, she presents her points

Patrick Suskind Essay
Oppositional structures in the postmodern world of Perfume masks the truth and exposes the lies.
Through many literary devices and religious elements, the author Patrick Suskind employs
postmodern messages. The use of postmodernist mockery exposes the lies, and the enlightenment era
characteristics mask the truth. Enlightenment and romantic era characteristics also preserve styles
from the era in which the novel takes place: mid to late 1700 s. Suskind hides the truth internally,
within the knowledge of the narrator and exposes the lies to a relevant audience to convince the reader
to diminish conventional values. Characteristics of enlightenment and romantic era literature include

Christianity proposes acceptance regardless of sin, Suskind dispels that notion by condemning
innocent baby Grenouille. Suskind reveals this lie in religion through the rejection and condemnation
of Grenouille by Father Terrier. Father Terrier thinks, Away with it! Though Father Terrier, away this
very instant... he was about to say devil , but caught himself and refrained..., (18). Father Terrier
represents the church and immediately rejects a testament. Grenouille later confirms his condemnation
by proclaiming his evil as he plans to rule mankind, And he said to himself that he wanted to do this
because he was evil thoroughly evil (156). This portrays the lie of the church which reflects on
religion as a

Male And Female Roles In The 1800 s
Male and female roles have been changing as time goes on over the years. Women have fought to
have the same rights as men do. Men have always been dominant over women, for instance women
have fought for rights such as voting and being able to work in the same workforce as men do. Men
used to believe women should stay at home and not go to work, but instead they should do household
chores such as cleaning, cooking, and tending to the children. Male and female roles have changed
dramatically over time. In the 1800 s women stayed at home and done the cleaning, cooking, and
tended to the children while the husband took care of the harder chores around the house. The male
would normally go out and feed the livestock, tend to broken stuff around

To What Extent Do Professor s Ariely s Ideas Help Us...
Business Assignment
Part A.
To what extent do Professor s Ariely s ideas help us evaluate the effectiveness of Jamie Oliver s
management approach?
Professor s Ariely s speech on the effects of management does, to a certain extent help us evaluate the
effectiveness of Jamie Oliver s hands on management approach. As a manager, Jamie Oliver would
take a personal interest in his students; providing them with training, support (paying for their
transport if necessary) and visiting their homes. This allowed Jamie to develop trust and respect with
his students and in return, the students established a trust with him. If a manager is attentive and
acknowledges their efforts, employees are more likely to uphold their motivation. One example that
was presented by Professor Ariely demonstrated this idea that if people s endeavours are recognised,
then they will work for longer. The experiment whereby people matched pairs of letters in three
different conditions showed results that backed up this hypothesis. In the first condition, they wrote
their name, completed the worksheet and showed it to the experimenter, who then scanned it and put it
in the pile. The second condition, people did not write their name, completed the worksheet, gave it to
the experimenter and without looking at it, placed it in the pile. The final condition, the experimenter
simply put the completed worksheet in the shredder. In the first condition where the work was
acknowledged people worked for

The Contributions Of Science And Science
As a contemporary writer observing the timeline of modern science, and all the abridgments made to it
over the past few centuries, one cannot help but ponder upon the course that science took to reach
what it is today. We are aware of the pioneers of science such as Newton, Lavoisier, Stahl, Joule,
Maxwell, Einstein etc, and all of the groundbreaking contributions these extraordinary individuals
made to mould science into what we today know it to be. Over the course of History of Science, we
have examined the various factors influencing the life and work of various men of science, and how
the society, polity and religion of their time affected their contributions to science. We began with the
classical elegance of Newtonian Enlightenment, drifted onto the chaotic happenings of the Industrial
Revolution, glanced past the Romantic Movement and finally came upon the Einsteinian revelation.
Through the course of the 300 or so years the aforementioned periods encompassed, we have seen
scientific theories envisioned, published, critiqued, lauded and destroyed. Time is our witness as we
analyze the many edits made to the holy text of science, and keeping in mind the irony of the previous
sentence , I attempt to answer the question, Is Modern Science a result of a few abrupt revolutions, or
is it a carefully cumulative accumulation of knowledge ?
I begin with a brief introduction as to what is meant by revolution, scientific revolution, revolutionary
theories in the context

There were twenty or more pre-trials or trials that day....
On Thursday November 17th, 2005 we attempted to go and see a trial at the Oakland County Circuit
Court. An attorney friend advised us to go to the Macomb Circuit Court that Thursday, but due to a
scheduling conflict we chose to go the Oakland County Court. We were also advised to go around
1:00 p.m. because the court would commence again after lunch. We arrived to the court at 12:45 and
after passing through security we quickly went to the fifth floor courtrooms to find a trial. Upon
reaching the fifth floor we found that on that particular Thursday there were several pre trials being
held instead of a single trial. These are the observations that we made in Courtroom 2B on that day.

Each of the nine prisoners, seven male and two female, had on different colored Oakland County Jail
issued uniforms and they were seated in the jury seats of the courtroom. The demographics of the
incarcerated were five white males, two black males and two black females. Their age range was from
a nineteen year old female to a 52 year old white male. At 1:30 exactly a pretrial finished and the
lawyers in unison approached the jury box to talk to their respective clients.
There were twenty or more pre trials or trials that day. The speed in which they were handled was
surprisingly fast at times. One could tell that everyone involved in the court had went through these
procedures many times before. The chaos as we saw it looked very routine for the people invested in
the cases. The crime du jour seemed to be violation of probation. Of the cases we saw violation of
probation was the charge in at least half. Other charges that day included possession of a controlled
substance, oddly enough cocaine in all of these instances, failure to pay child support, and attempted
armed robbery. Violation of probation was a result of a few defendants committing these other crimes.
The attorney s main focus seemed not to prove their clients innocence but to lessen the penalties
through plea bargaining. In many instances the attorney s achieved their goal. In some due to the

The Role Of Bread In Japanese Economic History
Food of Efficiency : The Role of Bread in Japanese Economic History from the 1910s to the 1960s
The history of bread in Japan began in the early Meiji Period, when Kimuraya Sohonten, a Tokyo
bread store, opened and invented Anpan, a popular sweet bread with red bean paste inside.
Approximately one hundred and fifty years have passed since then. In these 150 years, Japan s
numerous social changes have shifted and redefined the role of bread in the Japanese diet. Frist, bread
was a popular novelty food and a status symbol until the beginning of the 20th century . Between the
1910s and the 1960s, bread functioned as a food of efficiency and eventually became one of the main
staple foods in Japan. Form the 1970s to the present, bread has reformed into a form of snack in the
Japanese daily diet . While appreciating the delicate contemporary bread snacks , one might also
notice the contrast between bread s role as snack now and its role as a food of efficiency before. How
did bread become a food of efficiency, and what was the significance of this part of the history of
bread in Japan? From the beginning of World War I in the 1910s to Japan s Economy Miracle in the
1960s, bread served as a food of efficiency and the history of bread in Japan closely reflected the
country s industrialization and economy growth. Bread started its transformation into one staple food
of Japan in the 1910s. Japan had won the First Sino Japanese War and the Russo Japanese War in the

The Meaning of A White Heron Essay
The Meaning of A White Heron Through life experiences we learn that some things in life are more
important than money. By using the Archetypal Cycle of Human experience I will be able to explain
the importance of each stage in the story A white Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett. The story A white
Heron is about a nine year old girl named Sylvia. The author starts the cycle/framework by implying
through the character s age that Sylvia has a certain innocence that only a young child early in life can
possess. This is the first stage in the cycle of human experiences, the innocence stage. Sylvia had
moved from the city to the country in order to live with her grandmother when she was eight years
old. Sylvia used to live in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sparked an interest in the man, and he talked about his bird collection and that he was out there to
get a white heron. The man asked if Sylvia had seen a white heron, but she did not reply. The man said
that he would pay ten dollars to anyone who could show him the location of the white heron s nest.
Sylvia thought of all the treasures that she could buy with that wealth. This paragraph contains the
third step in the cycle because of the range of emotions that she experienced and the choices she made.
The third step is all about experiences, trial an error and temptations. Sylvia was no longer
thinking/acting with a good heart; she had been taken control of by greed. The next day the man goes
out in search for the white heron and Sylvia accompanied him. While they were looking for the heron
the man gives Sylvia a jack knife. Sylvia starts to like the man because he is kind and sympathetic.
Sylvia could not understand why he killed the birds that he liked so much. Sylvia has now started to
develop certain feelings for the man. The man stayed the night again at the house and all that Sylvia
could think about was climbing the pine tree to find the white heron so she could gain the man s
approval of her. This paragraph is the fourth step in the cycle because of the internal emotions that she
had created. The fourth step is death, psychologically or internally (what you believed about your
standards). The author has Sylvia develop feeling for the man

Sao Paulo Essay
Sao Paulo is Brazil s financial center and is well known for its breathtaking views, its abundant
cultural institutions and for their rich architectural scene. However, there are many negative issues that
are ravaging the lives of the citizens in this city. For starters, Sao Paulo has terribly congested traffic, a
significant amount of crime and gang violence, a lack of quality in the medicine health field, a high
amount of air pollution, and also water shortages. However, these are not the biggest of their
obstacles. Sao Paulo s most pressing issue of the moment is the informal housing that is plaguing the
city. This essay will first analyze Sao Paulo, Brazil s informal housing issue, then will compare Sao
Paulo s unique obstacle to similar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) define the characteristics of slum housing as
nondurable drinking water, insufficient domestic space, lack of drinking water, lack of sanitation, and
tenure security. Based on this definition provided by the MDG, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Cuba can
be classified as countries that are on track with the reduction of slum housing, for example. On the
other hand, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and Paraguay are
stabilizing. All other Latin American countries and Caribbean countries are at risk or off track (Smith
76). Although Brazil s condition is stabilizing, there is still a heavy amount of improvement necessary
before we can deny the significance of the issue. Sao Paulo is still plagued by the slum houses and the
favelas and awareness needs to be constantly shed on this issue. There is still a lot of work to be done
and solely because the conditions may seem to be stabilizing, it is still not safe to assume that Brazil
will be alright. The housing conditions of Brazil need to be more than alright, they have to be more
than satisfactory; the conditions need to reach high levels of success so that the cities and the citizens
living within will

The Decision Support System For A Music Store
Decision Support Systems provide business owners with business intelligence necessary to remain
competitive and operate profitably. An owner of music store needs access to many different types of
data to predict customer s needs and ensure the appropriate inventory will be in stock when needed.
Too much inventory will drain financial resources and take up valuable shelf space and, in contrast,
not having the inventory customers want will result in missed opportunities for sales. The Decision
Support System for a music store would provide the most value to its owner if all features can be
easily utilized, both internal and external data can be stored, and data can be easily analyzed.
Ease of Use The Decision Support System must have a user interface that provides the music store
owner with a means to easily input data and retrieve the business intelligence needed to make the best
decisions. Technology of any kind that is not user friendly or is challenging to understand will not be
used to its fullest capacity. A music store owner would expect to see charts and graphs that can be
easily filtered or manipulated to translate a broad range of data into small easy to understand pieces.
Information that is needed routinely such as top selling albums or artists, inventory levels, and total
sales should be included on a dashboard for quick viewing at any time. The ability to drill down to
detail by specific genres or time periods may prove useful when data mining is desired.

Polonius Literary Devices
In Act I Scene III of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Polonius, the father of Laertes and Ophelia,
enters as Laertes is saying his goodbye to Ophelia. Polonius talks to each of the two characters
directly at different points in this scene; however, the conversations are both meant to be a helpful
warning and lesson to each of the characters. The main point, or crux, of the conversation between
Polonius and Laertes was a series of small, fatherly tips and lessons to Laertes before he goes off on
his trip to Paris. The main point of the conversation between Polonius and Ophelia was a warning that
Ophelia shouldn t get mixed up with Hamlet romantically because Hamlet wouldn t truly love her. A
literary device that Shakespeare employs within the conversation between Polonius and Laertes would
be the use of sentence structure. During the lecture to Laertes, Shakespeare ends every piece of advice
with a period, ultimately separating the different parts of his lesson. This structure creates a kind of list
that the audience is able to put together although it is not specifically separated. This serves to prove
the point that Laertes has a lot left to learn but not enough time so Shakespeare sends Polonius to
teach these important lessons quickly before Laertes is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of symbolism can be seen when Polonius says to Ophelia, You speak like a green girl...
(Shakespeare 1.3.110). This description of Ophelia uses the symbolism that green entails. Green is
often used to symbolize immaturity and growth. This is held true by the next line used to describe
Ophelia saying, Unsifted in such perilous circumstance. (Shakespeare 1.3.111). This proves that
Ophelia is immature and unsure of what she s doing. This proves Polonius s point that, Ophelia still
has a lot to learn and grow before she can truly know what s right for

Music And Body Music
Music is everywhere in our daily lives and culture, whether it comes from instruments or your body
music has a significant effect on your daily habits, mood and how you act way. Anyone can sing or

your body by using special chords or rhymes. One album that does this is Vol. 2 ... Hard Knock Life
by Jay Z, by continuously listening to the album and the fourteen songs I concluded that the amount of
profanity used in each song is sky rocketing high, in the song If I should die in the first twenty second
I counted six profanities used. The amount of horrible language used at times can easily distract the
real message trying to be conveyed and more importantly in my case drift the listener in counting the
amount of vulgarity used instead of enjoying the music. However, to counter this problem Jay Z s
songs have a unique rhyme for each song, weather it be a relaxing continuous beat to a hardcore rap
beat Jay Z and the various singers seem to adapt their voices and pitches to match the fluctuating
chores. At times, the signer s voices dimmer down to allow the beat play louder to signify an change

common misunderstanding you gain is that each track sounds familiar and repetitive. However, this is
not the case if you analyse the songs very carefully the beats build on from other

  • 2. Gender Roles And Gender Inequality and girls when women already earn less than men in economic spheres ( Fact Sheet , 2010). The underlying gender roles and gender inequality that persists in South Africa help not only to explain their unbelievably difficult daily burdens but it also aids in the understanding of the lack of economic and political representation of women in the region (Bentley, 2004). Within South Africa there is a significant gap in the lack of opportunity and representation of women within the economic and political sphere, which directly correlates to their poverty. Often times the universal equality and importance of all members of society is not often respected, this is evident in the histories and devastations of apartheid in South Africa, but also in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The economic and political empowerment of women not only would improve the lives of women, but of the children that depend on them and the direct and extended family members that rely on the help of women, in which the HIV/AIDS epidemic has heightened (Schreiner, Mohapi Koppen, 2004). Females are more likely than men to live in households below the poverty line, lack the economic and political power to improve their status due to their underrepresentation, and thus lack the ability and clout to influence policy in ways that can bring social services or developmental status to women in need. Advocating for the educational and political achievement of women leads other young girls to see this and strive to be successful, breaking the cycle of disenfranchised women. Women in leadership can also help to promote and create opportunities for other women, and may also help to engage in policy making that will be more effective because they bring a greater level of understanding to the issues at hand. For example, a recent effort in South Africa to expand the development of female lawmakers helped advance legislation promoting gender equality such as providing equal land rights to women and ensuring reproductive rights (Diop, 2015). Increasing the educational achievement of women within South Africa could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Myths And Fairy Tales Essay Myths and fairy tales are universal stories that help connect people from different backgrounds to their own history and culture. Fairy tales give the reader with adventures, and how good always defeats evil, while myths present us with heroes going through incredible hardship and at the same time, they represent the fundamental values of our society. These stories help us develop an understanding of the cultural values and how the human mind works. Myths and fairy tales continue to change through time to adapt according to the values and reflections of the current cultural norms we are currently living. Movies have become a platform to tell myths and fairy tales in a visual way to different age groups and different cultures. A movie that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Animals have been associated with magic for a long time. These enchanted pets were commonly used to diagnose illnesses, to find sources of magic and to find treasures. It was not until the Middle Ages and the rise of Christianity that these pets were considered evil. They started to be considered as demons or evil spirits in animal form, sent out by a witch to do their evil bidding. In Harry Potter, each of the before mentioned pets is associated in mythology in different ways: The Owl has always been associated with death, sorcery and the dark side of life. The owls would go with witches on their broomsticks and carry out their evil commands. Cats have always been associated with witches. A witch was reputed to own a cat as a familiar pet and they were believed to embody demons and used for spells. In the wizardry world of Harry Potter, a magic wand had to be obtained to attend Hogwarts School of Magic. A wand was a thin, handheld stick made of wood, stone or metals. It was a tool used to channel the energy and magic of the witch. In Egyptian mythology, the magic wand is mentioned and in Greco Roman mythology, the god Hermes had a special wand called a caduceus. In almost every childhood story and fairy tale we have read, all the magical beings like the fairy godmother in Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, they all use a magic wand ... The clinic currently provides two types of treatments, which include Hemodialysis (HD) and Peritoneal (PD). The existing system used by Western Dialysis Clinic is the traditional ratio of cost to charges (RCC) method. Under this system the traceable supply costs are assigned directly to the two types of treatment. And also currently both the treatments seem profitable. Due to this David Thomas, the controller of Western Dialysis has recognized two major issues: First, the procedure currently being used to assign common expenses may not be correctly presenting the underlying use of the common resources by two different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As it can be seen this traditional system shows both the procedures to be profitable for the clinic. But there were several concerns regarding this procedure as projected by the controller of the clinic, since the traditional system may not be assigning the common expenses to accurately represent the underlying use of the common resources used by HD and PD. Therefore there is a need shown by the controller to explore the activity based costing system to understand the costs netter, which can more accurately calculate the profitability of the two procedures in order to assist the managers to make more informed decisions. This has been performed in the following breakdown where the general overhead category, nursing services and equipment costs have been the focus of the analysis, to obtain a better understanding of the costs at Western Dialysis Clinic. Phase I General Overhead Category The initial analysis consists of focusing on the general overhead category. For the nursing and the equipment costs, the allocation is 85% towards HD and 15% towards PD based on staff s experience rather than using the traditional RCC method. (For detailed analysis please refer to exhibit 3). In this phase the General Overhead category is divided into four resource cost pools. The Importance Of Credit Licensee A credit licensee (that is, the holder of an Australian Credit Licence, commonly referred to as an ACL holder) must comply with the responsible lending conduct obligations in Chapter 3 of the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (Cth) (NCCP Act). These obligations relate to the conduct of the credit licensee when engaging in credit activity. Under the NCCP Act, credit activity includes: providing credit under a credit contract or consumer lease; benefiting from mortgages or guarantees relating to a credit contract; exercising rights or performing obligations of a credit provider or lessor (either as the credit provider or lessor or on behalf of another person who is the credit provider or lessor); suggesting or assisting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We will do so by running through a number of checkpoints , as set out below. Checkpoint 1 whether the loan is regulated What is a regulated loan? Many credit licensees provide credit in both the regulated and unregulated space. The term regulated is used for consumer loans and leases as they are regulated by the National Credit Code (NCC), which is a schedule to the NCCP Act. Loans and leases will be regulated under the NCCP Act if, amongst other things, it is provided or is intended to be provided wholly or predominantly for personal, domestic or household purposes or to refinance residential investment property. Generally, this means that unless the loan applicant (referred to as the borrower in this course) is clearly able to establish that the finance will be used predominantly for business purposes, the loan should be treated as a consumer regulated loan. This also means that the responsible lending obligation to assess unsuitability applies. Practical tips In practice, this means a credit provider needs to make reasonable inquiries from each borrower as to the purpose for which they will be using the borrowed funds. If the credit will be used for personal, domestic or household purposes, the loan must be originated as a consumer loan, and compliance with the responsible lending obligation to assess ... • 6. Macbeth Pathetic Fallacy Essay I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o er vales and hills (William Wordsworth, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud). Wordsworth uses pathetic fallacy to deepen the meaning behind the poem, as seen here, by stating I wandered lonely as a cloud...vales and hills , as opposed to simply saying, I wandered lonely . Similarly, in Shakespeare s, Macbeth, pathetic fallacy deepens the plot with use of nature allegories. Firstly, at the beginning of the play, the weather of thunder and lightning symbolises a gloomy event to occur, in which, three murtherers kill Banquo. Secondly, with the air being somewhat mysterious, odd events begin to happen, which lead to Macbeth s death. Finally, with a cloudy sky overhead, the darkness symbolises ... Continuing on, when Macduff and Macbeth meet in Macbeth s castle at the end of the play, Macbeth states that only a man who is not born from a woman can kill him. Macduff counters back to Macbeth that , And let the angel whom thou still hast served / Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother s womb / Untimely ripped (5.8.14 16). Macduff states that because of being cut out the womb as opposed to being born naturally, Macduff is the one who is to kill Macbeth. The analogy of the foggy and filthy air giving light to odd events to come lead to Macbeth s death because Macduff fits the description the apparition gave Macbeth. Last but not least, Fleance s note to Banquo about not being able to see the moon foreshadows of an incoming evil deed, which ends up being Duncan s death. Banquo and FLeance are sitting outside of Macduff s castle and Banquo asks if Fleance knows what time it is, and Fleance responds with, The moon is down. I have not heard the clock (2.1.2). Fleance is unable to tell the time to Banquo because of the lack of moon to alarm the bell of midnight, showing that the weather is cloudy. • 7. Edward Jenner the Creator of the Vaccine for Smallpox Essay Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth century a disease dominated the world killing one in three people who caught it, smallpox. The few that survived the disease were left with very disfigured bodies and weak immune systems. In modern days this disease seems very unusual and hard to catch; it is all because of one man, Edward Jenner. Edward Jenner, the father of immunology , was born on May 17, 1749. He was one of nine siblings and he was treated for smallpox for a very long period of his childhood. I predict that his treatment to small pox as an infant encouraged his work into creating the vaccine for smallpox itself. It is said that his work saved more lives than the work of any other human . To find his proof he traveled to Europe to try and gather volunteers to test his vaccination. After three months of talking around and attempting to get test subjects he was unsuccessful. He was very desperate and wanted to prove his theory but with his hopes denied in Europe he had to take another big step to try and prove his results. It took a global wide survey to find some people to test his theory o and confirm his results. From there his vaccine was acknowledged globally. With a vaccine to one of the world s deadliest diseases for the time Jenner was awarded with several honors and awards. Along with those honors and awards he was given a lot of cash prizes as an addition to the world s thanks. Unlike plenty of other scientists or most people he did not use his money to become known as a wealthy figure. Jenner used almost all of his money to create vaccines for the poor and to continue researching other topics. He was so dedicated into helping the poor or anybody who desperately needed the vaccine that he built a hut in his garden that he called the temple of vaccinia . In that he vaccinated the poor for free anytime he had the chance to or whenever he had the resources. Sometimes Jenner did not have the appropriate resources to create a vaccine for his patients inside of the temple of vaccinia. It never failed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Air Traffic Control Since the very beginning of air travel, the Federal Aviation Administration s National Air Traffic Control (ATC) system has kept passengers safe and moved people and goods with unmatched efficiency, and it has continually evolved to meet the needs of the aviation industry. However, many have sought to hand over control of the ATC system to a private entity, separate from the FAA, dominated by the airlines, and unaccountable to the public. The latest of these effort comes in the form of a renewed push endorsed by President Donald Trump, in a misguided attempt to Make Air Travel Great Again. What would come with private ATC would be just the opposite: rising costs passed on to airline passengers and general aviation operations, and funds shifted from local general aviation (GA) airports to the nation s hub airports, and unfair access to the nation s skies favoring the airlines and leaving GA behind. Since the invention of flight, the sky over America have been free for anyone to use, but this may no longer be the case. The costs to the aviation industry will be staggering. Pilots, controllers, and other aviation professionals have not accepted a private ATC system in the past and must resist it again for the love of flying. Privatization of government services and agencies has long been a proposed solution to rising costs, delayed updates, and inconsistent budgets that federal agencies currently have to deal with. Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Comparison The movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Mel Stuart, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Tim Burton, are both outstanding artwork that impressed the public. In this essay, I will examine how the Burton achieved to convert the genre of the previous movie to attract audiences from different centuries and examine how Berger s and Lethem s claims relate to my observations. Stuart s imagination of the chocolate factory was the first attempt to translate Dahl s book from text into visual. Before the creation, there was no alike movie existed. Without any expectations from viewers, they were amazed to this interpretation of the fantasy. When Burton reproduced the movie, the one of a kind idea was refined. The combination contained old and new ideas. Everything is a mixture of something belonged to the past. The Oompa Loompas was introduced with green skin and orange hair by Stuart. Burton exaggerated the character with an even more shocking appearance. Lethem claimed that old and new make the warp and woof of every moment (686). • 11. The West Vs. Reality The West Versus Reality Since the beginning of history, the rise and descent of civilizations has molded history influencing what nations have become today. The approach of using a strong military and a dynamic economy can be seen as template for civilizations when trying to dominate parts of the world since this template has been consistently used. The Clash of Civilizations, an essay by Samuel P. Huntington, argues that, as a result of the Cold War, global politics would be centered around the conflicts between the world s civilizations. Huntington perceives the conflict between Islam and the West an extremely impactful conflict. However, The Clash of Ignorance, a literary piece by Edward W. His argument would have been significantly stronger if he showed the darker side of the West as opposed to making it appear like the West never did anything resulting in a negative impact. Huntington emphasizes the importance of culture within a civilization by describing it as a cultural entity (Huntington 2). Culture, along with history, language, and religion, is what distinguishes civilizations from each other (Huntington 2). Similarly, he speaks about the significance of being aware of one s own civilization and what makes it unique from others. He describes this awareness using term civilization consciousness and believes that this awareness can sometimes lead to conflict (Huntington 3). This idea is similar to the idea of nationalism. Nationalism is commonly used to engender a sense unity within civilizations with the goal of fighting external forces, but nationalism can be certainly dangerous. For instance, in the film Promises and Betrayals, Arabs and Jews had an ongoing conflict after the British promised them their independence, which made them victims of their own sense of nationalism. However, Huntington also mentions actions like Asianization and re Islamization that have the goal of understanding cultural differences showing the non violent side of civilization consciousness (Huntington 4). • 15. The Globalization Of The Cocoa Industry In The Mayan Economy Globalization is a predominant term in global politics today, but it is a more complex issue than some may perceive it to be. While it has enabled a remarkably integrated global political landscape and fast tracked the international economy, these new global networks also exposed the full extent of economic and power imbalances between states. Powerful western states and corporations have used global integration to exploit states that are rich in highly sought after resources, but not strong or secure enough to protect these resources from external actors. The worldwide cocoa industry has expanded profoundly since its emergence in Mesoamerican culture in the 15th century, and this industry has become a microcosm of western dominance in the global economy. The exploitation of Latin American and African countries at the hands of western corporate enterprises is an ongoing trend in cocoa production; however, hope rests in corporate social responsibility and the fair trade movement to dramatically alter the global production network of cocoa going forward. Cocoa has an illustrious history which initially began with the Mayans around 500 BCE in Mesoamerica, the region that would later make up Mexico and some surrounding nations (Kermani 2006). With no access to external sweeteners like sugar, the cocoa of this era had a bitter taste which differs greatly from what is recognized as chocolate today. Many would believe the wise person that once said this was speaking of Othello and Desdemona from William Shakespeare s famous play, Othello. These two characters were much in love at the beginning of the play, however, Iago, a character seeking revenge of Othello, twisted the love into hatred as the play moves on. Iago drew the attention of, allured, and rationalized several reasons why Othello should believe that Desdemona is cheating on him. All in all, as Iago continues to poison Othello, Othello s mind becomes more and more infected with lies. At first, Iago drew Othello s attention towards Cassio, the charming soldier, and Desdemona. He pointed out that the two had been spending a lot of time together. This is shown in Othello when Iago says, Ha! I like not that... Nothing, my lord, or if I know not what... Cassio, my lord? No, sure, I cannot think it that he would steal away so guilty like seeing you coming (3.3.!). • 17. Obstacles In The Titans The T.C. William Titans fought and overcame many obstacles throughout the season. Some of these obstacles included racism, the team falling apart, and biased referees. Even though all odds were against them, the Titans pulled through and managed to win the state championship. The first, and main obstacle that the Titans faced was racism. Racism was prevalent throughout the whole movie, but was worst in the beginning as the team had not learned to accept each other yet. White players and parents didn t want black players or a black coach, and many wanted to boycott T.C. Williams for allowing it. Head coach, Herman Boone, solved this at the team s camp by forcing the players to get to know each other, or face practice multiple times a day. Racism continued throughout the movie, mostly from people outside of the team, but there was occasional racial tension within the team. This request leads to the appointing of the first king of Israel, Saul, followed by centuries of kings (1 Samuel 8 9). A large majority of these kings have been deemed to be bad kings, leaving only a small handful to be considered good. In general, these kings are given such labels for their actions and policies throughout their time of power. This paper will discuss the reigns of David, Hezekiah and Josiah and what makes them considered good kings, as well as Ahab and Manasseh and the actions that deemed them to be bad kings. Throughout the history of Israel and Judah, there have been very few kings that are classified by scholars as being good. The king in which all other kings are measured up to, and possibly the most widely known, would be David. He is actually stated to be the most fully developed character in the Hebrew bible (Coogan 255). David took reign after Saul and at this time Israel was still a united monarchy. His success as a king can be contributed to both his character and relationship with God. David s talent as a warrior can be seen when he so effortlessly conquers the massive Philistine, Goliath. They feel that repatriation should not occur until they are able to study the skeleton enough to identify which cultural group he belongs to. NAGPRA promises Native groups that remains would be returned to them if the remains were associated with their group, however Kennewick man does not necessarily belong to any specific group at this point in time. There are two perspectives to this dilemma: the Native perspective valuing the sacredness of the remains, and the scientific perspective valuing the eagerness to study the remains (Lee, 2008). Stories written by Donald Sampson and Rechanda Lee give insight on the Native perspective arguing that science is degrading Native American identity and disrespecting the culture and religion (Lee, 2008). They do not like that the graves of their ancestors are disturbed and dissected to be studied (Sampson, 2008). Traditional histories are important to Native American communities as it provides identity and lineage linked to their respected communities. Natives feel that a group of scientists should not be telling them what their history is as they have faith in what is passed down to them orally (Lee, 2008). Many Natives feel as if scientists need to show respect and let the Native communities be heard. (Lee, 2008). Scientists, however, are addressing Principle No.2 of the Principles of Archaeological Ethics as identifying the remains and associating them to a certain group determines who the remains actually belong to. Both Lee and Sampson argue that using the cranial morphology of Kennewick man to determine his race is the result of irrationality and imagination. Both of the passages that they wrote claim to be addressing the scientific aspect of Kennewick man, however they seem to be writing with a strong emotional language rather than scientific. To complete Guernica, Picasso bounces of ideas from Goya s The 3rd of May. In Picasso painting there lies dead soldier has a stigmata on his hand that is a representation of the crucifixion. This refers back to Goya s main focus, the prisoner in white. This prisoner is being illuminated by the only source of artificial light present in the painting. With his arms raised it seem as once a plea for mercy, and a mirror image of the crucifixion. This is an evocation of christ s agony on the cross, which refers back to the stigmata present in Picasso s Guernica. Guernica was indeed one of Picasso s greatest creations. The Minotauromachy depicts Picasso s hardships and how he had to overcome them throughout his life. This painting is a very provocative scene, that contains a variety of symbolic imagery. In this painting there is a variety of meanings such as, good and evil, violence and innocence, and suffering and salvation. The flower girl that is holding the only source of light present in this painting, is symbolic for a guide through the darkness,as well as tenderness and bravery. The bull headed minotaur is used to symbolise Picasso s alter ego. Even though at first glance the bull appears threatening, once taking a closer look you can see that he seems to be shielding himself from the light, representing the good from the evil. The ... • 38. A Veteran Banned From Military Housing Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherd dogs mark 100 years with the AKC. Both German Shepherds and Dobermans were the Devil Dogs in WWII (Mahood). Both dog breeds have given years of service to the military. Both dogs have been faithful loyal companions and incredibly intelligent. Both dogs are ranked in the top five for obedience and working intelligence ( Dog intelligence rankings ). Yet, the German Shepherd is currently the military police s working dog and its veteran companion, the Doberman Pinscher, is currently banned from living in military bases. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... U.S. Army Veterinary Command (VETCOM) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as well as many other organizations, believe that breed bans are not the answer and is an inadequate solution to reducing dog bite fatalities on military installations. They believe that a comprehensive approach versus breed bans is a more realistic method of controlling dog bites within a community (Rolfe). Banning breeds is a knee jerk response that is inappropriate and ineffective. Any breed can be dangerous; there was a case where a Dachshund was involved in killing an 87 year old woman ( 2005 dog bite fatalities ). This policy assumes that all dogs of a certain breed is considered dangerous and will bite, instead of acknowledging that most dogs will not. Another issue is breed identification. According to the memorandum, the dog will be not be allowed if officials think it looks like one of the banned breeds. That makes the policy unfair even to dogs that are not from the so called dangerous breeds. For example, a Labrador Boxer mix, the result looks a lot like a Pit Bull, but are in no way related. Or certain black and tan Labradors that look like Rottweilers. The deciding factor is not breed, it is ownership. Irresponsible ownership in the form of poor care, neglect, etc. results in a potentially dangerous dog. Irresponsible owners will just get a dog that is not banned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What begins with the first people rapidly becomes a barrage of settlers, development and the harvesting of resources. Each period of time in the PNW brings changes in the people, the geography, and the culture. First is the Era of the First People. Scientific theories suggest that man first came to the PNW via land bridges from Russia or perhaps waterways. Some legends suggest a similar nomadic journey following the migrating animals or the work of spirits or Gods who created companions for a lonely human; usually a mother figure. The next era is that of Contact and Trade. Just after declaring independence from British rule, Captain James Cook began an exploration of the PNW on behalf of the newly formed thirteen colonies of the United States. Seeking the ever elusive Northwest Passage, Cook instead found himself docked in Nootka Sound to repair his ships. Here he traded trinkets for local furs, an unexpected valuable treasure. Cook also made stops in Alaska and wintered in Hawaii. Following Cook, more explorations from the U.S., France, Britain, Russian, and Spain soon sought to discover the treasures however unknown they remained and claim them as their own. The changes brought on by these new explorers were vast ranging from depletion of local population due to unfamiliar European diseases to new settlements to increased harvesting of resources. There were also treaties made with the native Indians for land or goods. Still seeking the Northwest Passage, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark began an expedition to the Oregon coast in 1804. While still failing to find that passage, they do explore more of the west and PNW than anyone up to that time. To what extent do Professor s Ariely s ideas help us evaluate the effectiveness of Jamie Oliver s management approach? Professor s Ariely s speech on the effects of management does, to a certain extent help us evaluate the effectiveness of Jamie Oliver s hands on management approach. As a manager, Jamie Oliver would take a personal interest in his students; providing them with training, support (paying for their transport if necessary) and visiting their homes. This allowed Jamie to develop trust and respect with his students and in return, the students established a trust with him. If a manager is attentive and acknowledges their efforts, employees are more likely to uphold their motivation. One example that was presented by Professor Ariely demonstrated this idea that if people s endeavours are recognised, then they will work for longer. The experiment whereby people matched pairs of letters in three different conditions showed results that backed up this hypothesis. In the first condition, they wrote their name, completed the worksheet and showed it to the experimenter, who then scanned it and put it in the pile. The second condition, people did not write their name, completed the worksheet, gave it to the experimenter and without looking at it, placed it in the pile. The final condition, the experimenter simply put the completed worksheet in the shredder. In the first condition where the work was acknowledged people worked for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We are aware of the pioneers of science such as Newton, Lavoisier, Stahl, Joule, Maxwell, Einstein etc, and all of the groundbreaking contributions these extraordinary individuals made to mould science into what we today know it to be. Over the course of History of Science, we have examined the various factors influencing the life and work of various men of science, and how the society, polity and religion of their time affected their contributions to science. We began with the classical elegance of Newtonian Enlightenment, drifted onto the chaotic happenings of the Industrial Revolution, glanced past the Romantic Movement and finally came upon the Einsteinian revelation. The main point of the conversation between Polonius and Ophelia was a warning that Ophelia shouldn t get mixed up with Hamlet romantically because Hamlet wouldn t truly love her. A literary device that Shakespeare employs within the conversation between Polonius and Laertes would be the use of sentence structure.
