Analysis Of Midaq Alley
Setting is used in literature in order to set the time and place as well as the mood within a literary
piece. Mahfouz uses various settings throughout the novel in order to showcase the development
of Hamida s rebellious character. The different settings come together to deliver the important
message of Hamida s literal and metaphoric entrapment, loss of her identity, and the development
of her rebelliousness. Since the novel takes place during WWII in the 1940s, it brings about the
idea of modernization due to the colonization of the British, which shows that the setting plays a
major role in portraying Hamida as a rebellious character. As Midaq Alley is a translated book
from Arabic to English, it may have lost its original value in... Show more content on

The alley is also said to live in complete isolation from all surrounding activity (Mahfouz,1)
indicating that it is entirely bounded and all activity that happens in it is restricted to only the
people of the alley showing how the topographical trap also relates to the social entrapment that
the alley is facing. With no reference to the outside world, the alley is bound to be a trap that no
one, not even Hamida, can escape. The claustrophobic state of the alley reflects the oppression
propagated by the alleys rejection to modern values. This is further shown by the description of
the atmosphere of the alley when it is described to be veiled in the brown hues of the glow.
(Mahfouz,1) the use of the color brown, indicating visual imagery, shows the negative
claustrophobic, and gloomy atmosphere which runs through the alley. The color brown is a
color between black and white, symbolizing negativity and positivity, respectively. However, the
color black is more evident in the color brown, therefore symbolizing negativity of the alley as it
was veiled with the brown hues meaning it was masked with gloominess and pessimism. The
alley is also described as having a distinctive life of its own (Mahfouz,1) proving once again that
the alley and the people within it are limited between the boundaries of the alley and their life only
consists of the people within the alley with no

Cause Of The French Revolution
A rebel is a person who defies authority. A rebellious person says, You can not do this to us, I
disagree. They are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in and say, This has been going on
too long and it needs to stop now. Now imagine the majority of the country, the majority of France
all saying, this needs to end now. That was the French Revolution. The third estate angry and poor,
helpless and furious together attack authority in rebellious ways. First, they attack the Bastille
which was the French jail and replace poor prisoners with elegant and rich aristocrats. Second, they
formed The National Assembly, which was the disagreement with the current government and a

They had the complete power over the country. Their power went so far that even the most
innocent man could be scented to death with the sign of a monarch signature on the Letter
decatche within milliseconds. It didn t matter if the man was harmless, he wasn t needed and that
s what defined what would happen to him (Vikram,Political). The rulers were cruel and selfish
beginning with Louis XVI. Louis XVI was a powerful monarch who participated in multiple wars
and claimed I am the state (Vikram,Political). After him monarch Louis VX took over who fought
over seven wars against England. The multiple wars indebted France and caused the French
government to become bankrupt (Vikram,Political). Another reason why France became bankrupt
was because of Marie Antoinette, who was the wife of king Louis XVI(Vikram,Political). She
always interfered with political agreements and decisions. She was known for her abuse of royal
spending allowing France to have multiple financial issues (Vikram,Political). France s bankruptcy
and financial problems led to people starving in the streets, only eating whatever scraps they could
find. It led to even poorer and contaminated living conditions, as well as multiple taxes to the
government in order to pay off France s debt (Vikram,Political). Bankruptcy left the economy
unbearable, broken, and destroyed. If rights and now health, money, and happiness were taken

The Between Modern And Modern Science
The passage of knowledge using the modernized ways of communication when well applied can
uphold the introduction of language and still promote the experience in learning. Many types of
research are underway on how the teaching of communication techniques away from the source is
possible but still there is a clue on how the local language of communication in China has been
taught to people at the far place. The research has shown the significance of modern sciencein those

been used to support passage of information and knowledge through blending online personal study

Marshall Plan Essay
This paper will analyze the Marshall Plan from both the international political economic (IPE)
liberal and IPE critical theorist philosophies and what a theorist from each belief would say
about the Marshall Plan in regards to its economic and political implications. The essay will do
this first with an explanation of the IPE liberal theory; followed by an explanation of the IPE
critical theory. Next, the essay will describe the background of the Marshall Plan aid and what the
Marshall Plan hoped to accomplish in Europe, specifically Western Europe, following the end of
the Second World War. The essay will then compare and contrast how an IPE liberal and IPE
critical theorist would evaluate the Marshall Plan aid in Europe.
Liberalism in the international political economy is a theory that arose together with the Industrial
Revolution in Britain. Adam Smith and David Ricardo are two major theorists who promoted the
idea that free trade and open markets are beneficial to all states and that they can generate wealth
for all parties involved. (O Brien and Williams, 2013, pg.13 14) Within liberalism the important
actor, the basic unit of analysis, is the individual, who is thought of as being able to analyze
different choices and select the best approach. The individual seeks to foster growth for themselves
and their business, which in turn, according to liberal theorists would create positive advancement
for the entire economy. This belief follows the thought that exchange and

Foreign Language Literacy And Its Effect On The Culture Of...
Introduction
The tourism sector is a large contributor to the growing economy of Cambodia. This industry is
supported by the widespread literacy of various foreign languages that was adopted from their
neighboring countries and its former colonizer. French was introduced to formal education during
the independence period in 1960s. Currently, the second phase Upper Secondary Education
curriculum requires 4 lessons of either English or French. Visitors in Cambodia do not only come
to see the natural assets and historical sites of Cambodia but they also enjoy the hospitality of the
Khmers who make the effort to learn foreign languages. Hence, foreign language literacy plays a

In many countries around the world, English is being learned only by those who can afford
instruction in it. Not being able to afford such instruction can close many doors, particularly with
regard to accessing higher education. (p. 24пј‰
Foreign language literacy and the tourism sector
Although agriculture is the largest segment of Cambodia s economy, tourism is the second largest
contributor to the country s gross domestic product. To support the growth of tourism, Cambodia
has adopted many languages into their culture such as the Cambodian French, Cham, Jarai, Kuy,
Stieng, Chinese, and English. These languages were developed from the languages of France,
Vietnam, Thailand, and China. This historical connection from each country is one of the reasons
tourists like to visit Cambodia. For instance, the French visit Cambodia due to their historical
connection which was the French colonial rule from 1863 through 1953. These similarities that
arose from the adoption of languages then became the connection of Cambodia to the said
countries. Aside from the historical connection, these language connections are one of the reasons
tourists visit Cambodia (Bookbridge 2015).
Literacy in foreign language enables the local people of Cambodia to take up jobs in the field of
tourism such as translators, interpreters, and

Abstract
Background
There has been a continuous growth in the number of New Zealanders on dialysis, with the
total number increasing from 1770 cases in 2004 to over 2500 cases by the end of 2013
(ANZDATA Registry, 2015; McDonald, 2015). Among individuals over the age of 65 years,
the prevalence has increased by more than four folds, and is expected to continue to increase
in the future (Madhan, 2004; ANZDATA Registry, 2015). Prolonged life expectancy,
advancements in medical technology and subsequently inflated public expectations have
significantly contributed to increased acceptance of dialysis among elderly individuals
(Kurella et al, 2007). However, opinions regarding recommendation and initiation of dialysis
in the elderly population vary significantly among renal teams, mainly due to persistent
uncertainties surrounding the outcome of dialysis therapy in elderly patients with end stage
renal disease (ESRD) (Carson et al,

SEC alleged that Mark Cuban violated misappropriate insider trading. To be qualified as
misappropriate insider trading, an individual wrongfully obtains (misappropriates) inside
information and trades on it for her or his personal benefit. In this case, Cuban actually traded his
shares based on the material inside information he was told and saved him $750,000 in losses.
Wrongful misappropriation means violation of a fiduciary duty.
The Court found that Cuban had not misappropriated any material non public information because
he had not violated a legal duty to refrain from trading. Cuban had not promised that he would not
trade after learning about a PIPE offering. The judge also said that the SEC failed to show that
Cuban undertook a legal duty to not use the information he learned from those two phone calls with
Mamma.com representatives. Mark Cuban did not have any fiduciary duty to not act upon the
information. The Mamma.com CEO asked Cuban to keep their conversation confidential. However,
that didn t prove that Cuban had a legal duty to Mamma.com that would prohibit him from selling
his shares based on what he was told. He just promised to not disclose the information to the others,
not promised to not act upon what someone told him.
Besides, there was no evidence that he actually agreed that day to keep anything confidential. He

Descriptive Essay About State Park
Brook! You will never guess what I saw at the state park in Arkansas with my family. I want to
hear all about it, walk me through it step by step and don t leave any detail out.
OK, I will start with the drive to the park.
The road is secluded, trees encompass you as you drive. The GPS directs that it is only a few
more miles, but in your mind, you know you need to turn around. Then the trees open up to a little
wooden cabin just off the road. After 6 hours in the vehicle, you bust open the door, and as your
legs swing out the door, you can feel a stretch throughout your entire body. Your body was stiff
but now is surrounded by the fresh air. The little cabin is actually a camp store, and in it you find
the assistance and the map needed to tackle the upcoming adventure. The road winds a few more
miles till you near the lodge. Buckled down with water, a camera, and wearing the proper shoes
you walk toward the trail. Something catches your eye, and with a turn of your head, there it is.
The lodge overlooks the most incredible view, one that could only have been created by God. The
lookout reveals mountains of trees with an unforeseeable future. After admiring the beauty, the trail
calls your name. It starts out wide and covered with gravel, without a moment to think the terrain
changes. You start to walk down the mountain, the gravel turned to dirt and with the help from the
dew and rain it was mud, and the mountain grew a little steeper with every breath. Later, you

Characteristics Of Gun Shootings
When conducting an investigation for a homicide due to a handgun it is important that investigators
and firearms technicians have an understanding on how a handgun is manufactured, what is a bore,
rifling patterns and their purpose, and caliber. Class and individual characteristics are present in
handguns, projectiles and shell casings. Every handgun contains general rifling characteristics
based on the number and width of grooves, as well as the direction of grooves. After a handgun is
fired it can present with penetrating and perforating gunshot wounds, which have specific entry and
exit characteristics. The muzzle to distance characteristics vary depending on how close or distant
the shooter was from the victim or surface. Finally, at a crime scene an investigator must gather
evidence at a death scene. When a handgun is used the investigator should document class
characteristics of a firearm, bulletor shell casing. Also, the handgun or ammunitionshould be dusted
for fingerprint and DNA evidence.
Early handguns of the 14th century were made of a bronze tube or wrought iron, packed with gun
powder and a projectile then ignited through a touch hole. These early guns were wildly inaccurate
and often failed. By 1835, Samuel Colt patented the first revolving cylinder and chamber handgun,
which was later mass produced as a weapon of choice by military personnel. The automatic pistol
arrived in the late twentieth century. Today, modern firearms come in a variety of

recommend that SGI should maintain its competitive advantage by continue its traditional way to
focus on meeting customer needs, try to provide unique solutions for the toughest technology and
business problems, and try to be the first to market with new component technology. Secondly,
SGI should try to create more products and services by using its unique and valuable skills like

To Build A Fire Essay
Sometimes everyone feels like giving up, and the only thing a person can rely on is his will to
survive. Giving up is admitting defeat, in every circumstance. In the story by Jack London, To
Build a Fire, the main character learns a hard lesson of reality, when he meets his fate. The result
came about because of many factors, mainly the man s lack of psychological perserverance on the
journey, as well as the harsh temperatureand surroundings. If there was any hope for the man to
survive these conditions, it would rely wholey on his persistance and motivation. The man
expected his fate after it was too late to change it, weighing all the variables and realizing there

He constantly decided how cold it was and how he didn t like to be as cold as he was. Inevitably,
the psychological factors wore his mind and soul down to make him only think how cold he was.
By the end of his situation, any warmth, whether by the sleep of death or fire, was all the man
could think about. Without any imagination to focus his thoughts elsewhere, the man helped
himself collapse into his final doom.
When the time came to build a fire to survive the first accident in the water, his irresponsibility
essentially cost him his life. He forgot to build a fire promptly after he got wet, which made it
extremely difficult build one after it. His fingers got numb and rigid, making it hard to even
light a match. Eventually, the man gave up hope when the last of his matches were snuffed out.
Even when it was too late to start a fire, the man s condition of his hands prevented him by his
last resort to kill the dog he was with for warmth. Ultimately he knew his only option was to lay
down and go to sleep. The cold had gotten to him so bad that he didn t mind laying down at the
very end of his life. The satisfaction he got when he fell to sleep was much needed by him after his
cold journey that day.
Although the circumstances nature thrust at the man were immortaly dangerous, the man s deficit
of imagination and negligence innately led to his death. Psycologically, the man was no match for
the treacherous conditions around

Mitigated Speech
Mitigated speech is a communication that is indirect. Malcolm Gladwell in the book Outliers
defines mitigated speech as any attempt to downplay or sugarcoat the meaning of what is being
said (194). People who come across as too harsh or forceful communicate more directly to people
who prefer communicating through a mitigated speech. One mitigates when they feel ashamed or
embarrassed or when they are speaking to a higher authority. Even though mitigation is a good
way to show respect and courtesy for others, it can be an obstacle in one s life. Three obstacles
that prevent an individual from becoming successful when having a mitigating speech are not
being able to be direct, not being able to express ones opinion, and not being able to... Show more

In the Korean culture children are thought to respect their elders and not to disobey. Children
said that they needed to eat everything on their plate and prioritized the expectations from their
parents and their teachers (32). When the children were asked how they felt about the lunch
they were being fed they responded, I have to eat seafood, which I don t like. I am not saying it
is not delicious. We have to eat everything (32). Children are not given the choice to eat what
they desire, instead the parents and teacher decide what and how much they eat. Children should
be able to make their own decisions it helps them feel more independent. In the case of the
Korean culture children will grow up thinking they need to always obey what they elders tell
them even if it not what they believe. They will not be able to express their opinions as if they
didn t matter. Making children feel like their opinions don t matter can lead into phycological
programs. Lastly one must understand the disadvantages of expressing a mitigated speech in order
to communicate clearly with others. Back to Outliers David Greenberg an outsider from Delta Air

However, even if prostitution is legal for sex trade workers who enter this lifestyle freely and
deliberately, it is important to look at the choice and constraints in the performance of this deviant
activity. Is prostitution a form of sexual deviance, a paid work, or a troubled response to childhood
abuse?
Causes of Women entering Prostitution
Most street prostitutes have common backgrounds; they are women and men who come from the
lower socio economic strata, and who are or were greatly dissatisfied with some aspects of their
home life (Lowman, 1992, p.54).
Research on prostitution shows some basic patterns in the family backgrounds of people involved
in prostitution. Often less than 18 years of age, most have few qualifications for other work.
Various reasons can be invoked as to why young adults turn to prostitution; poverty, mental illness,
homelessness, a history of childhood emotional, physical or sexual abuse.
Troubled childhood
Usually, prostitutes leave home at a very early age (67% of prostitutes enter the profession under
the age of eighteen). The average age of sex workers is 13 years old (Silbert, amp; Pines, 1982,
p.122). However, some are as young as young as 11 years old, as Wayne Chamberlain (1998) notes.

of change is technology. The automobile industry is constantly focusing on technology in order
to make themselves and their cars better. They constantly compete to be the first one to have the

Online shopping Web based shopping is one of the best parts of the web today. By shopping on
the web you will have the capacity to appreciate many advantages, some of which are clear as
crystal, others that are not all that obvious. With this article, we will start with the less clear
advantages of internet shopping. Many individuals are unconscious that they can spare
significantly more cash by shopping at an online retailer. Just as genuine retail establishments are

Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine
Although I ve only read the first couple chapters of Louise Erdrich s novel Love Medicine, I
have already realized that I am going to like this book. My only dislike thus far is that her
detailed and figurative writing style can cause confusion at times, for example when she switches
from character to character or includes various names every other paragraph. I find myself at
times having to read certain lines again so I can actually understand what is going on or who is
speaking. Also, in chapter two there are many characters, which can make it somewhat difficult to
know and remember who is who within the storyline. Although at times her choice of words or the
plot can confuse me, I took an AP Literature as a senior in high school; we had

Masculinity And Violence In Philomela
INTRODUCTION
Being silenced is the basic of the story that keeps it moving along with the social and gender
issues that impact violence of patriarchal domination and women being submissive. This essay
will present a powerful archetypical narrative topic in Ovid s Metamorphoses such as rape,
silencing and the complete erasure of feminine in Alice Walker s Color Purple Novel. The reader
will understand the significance of the subject matter under the discussion of a system of society
called Patriarchy , that does not allow the expression of both the masculinity and feminism. By

21st Century Literacy In Education
Part A The digital world we live in is constantly changing and updating to include the most efficient
technology for everyday use. Children in today s society have grown up using the latest
smartphones, tablets, computers and televisions. It is no surprise that technology has made it s way
into schools and incorporated into classroom instruction. Robinson, McKenna and Conradi state
that technology in schools is here to stay...students must now be able to navigate hypermedia and to
compose using not only word processing software but desktop publishing systems capable of
integrating multimedia. The times, they are a changin (Robinson, McKenna Conradi, 2012, p.
223). Robinson, McKenna and Conradi discuss in their research about a common myth of 21st
Century literacy; that 21st century literacy is about technology only (Robinson, McKenna Conradi,
2012, p. 227). As an educator, I agree with Robinson, McKenna and Conradi that 21st Century
literacy is not only about technology. Technology is a wonderful supplement to learning literacy,
however it does not take the place of learning to read, write and orally communicate on a daily
basis. Studies of workforce readiness show that employers rate written and oral communication
skills very highly, and collaboration, work ethic, critical thinking, and leadership all rank higher
than proficiency in information technology (Robinson, McKenna Conradi, 2012, p. 227). As an
educator, I feel that it is important to remember

Malcolm Gladwell The Art Of Failure
In The Art of Failure, Gladwell analyzes the two different ways someone can underperform when
faced with high stress levels. The two forms are choking and panicking, both of which are huge
detriments to high stake tasks. Malcolm writes that in order to overcome these challenges, one
must first understand which form they are dealing with. Panicking and choking as defined by
Gladwell can be characterized by the root of the obstacle, the resulting inability, and the form of
compensation with which a person will be inclined to react. To begin, panicking and choking can be
differentiated by the factor which they are caused. While both occur in high stress environments,
these types of failure do not result from the same internal conflict. Panic

Comparing The Cask Of Amontillado And Rhine Boat Trip
Death is a terrifying, but necessary, confrontation for many. According to ecology.com, over 55
million people die each year, which is half the rate of births that occur a year. Shockingly, almost
900 thousand of those deaths are due to homicide. Flashing back to 1942, 60 million Jews,
Gypsies, Poles, soldiers, and citizens were murdered before deathcould take them naturally. At that
time that was 3 percent of the world s population. Seen in The Cask of Amontillado and Rhine

Testing Using Electronic Transmission Systems

Introduction Public Health Departments or agencies rely on hospitals, clinics, and laboratory data
to provide timely intervention in a community when there is an outbreak of disease to prevent

The ?usefulness? of ELR is largely driven by public health investigation and reporting. Over the
past decades, public health institutions have made much progress in creating secure systems for
electronic data transmission to improve the quality of laboratory reporting. Public health agencies
require health information technology vendors to provide secure transport protocols capable of
meeting the requirements of MU and ELR. Meaningful use is using certified electronic health record
(EHR) technology to:
Improve quality, safety, efficiency and reduce health disparities
Engage patients and family
Improve care coordination, and population and public health
Maintain privacy and security of patient health information [5].
Interestingly, these agencies do not know whether vendors encounter any challenges in meeting the
requirements of meaningful use. To improve ELR, it is important to understand challenges vendors
go through, if any, in meeting the requirements for MU. Identifying these barriers could create an
appropriate dialogue between stakeholders to find ways that can improve the system. To accelerate
adoption of ELR, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advanced standards for
vocabulary, format, and messaging; funded the development of software; and conducted an
extensive outreach campaign to state and local health departments to increase use of the software

Sweatshop Exploitation and Responsibility
Sweatshops were first well known to the public eye when several major corporations exploitation of
workers were revealed during the late twentieth century. Sweatshops generally are factories that
provide workers with socially unacceptable working conditions, especially dealing with clothing
items. With the expanding apparel industries around the world, more and more corporations are
using sweatshop factories to their advantage. Numerous companies claim that they are not
responsible for actions of those factories from which they purchase from because it is not part of
their corporation. However, action needs to be taken by the government and individual
corporations to improve the working conditions in sweatshop factories. Due to the harsh working
environment, insufficient pay, and other factors that cause inhumane treatment of workers in
sweatshops, the US government should improve working conditions for workers, have stricter
regulations on sweatshops, and strive to improve the treatment of sweatshop workers across the
globe. Sweatshop proponents argue that even though sweatshops may not provide the best
working conditions for workers, it at least provides a job for those who are in desperate need of
one. In a way, a sweatshop may even benefit the workers. The money the workers earn from
working in the sweatshop factory may be the deciding factor in whether they have food

The Island Of Dr. Moreau Essay
The Island of Dr. Moreau, by H.G. Wells is focused around a man fascinated with the difference
between animal and man. Dr. Moreau, a man surely seen as a mad scientist to the outside world,
and maybe correctly. Dr. Moreau is determined to establish a sustainable human population, but all
he has on his secluded island, are a bunch of beasts. Although, this appears to be a problem, he still
works toward his goal, in rather experimental stages.
The genre of the story is very much science fiction, but it is also realistic fiction. Although this is
not based on any true events, the idea of experimenting on and evolving humans is not only
possible, but would most likely be a common thing if not for the lack of legality of the practice. The
point of view is definitely first person as the book is written as a diary of sorts. The narrator is

philosophical when it comes to the comparison between man and beast.
Dr. Moreau is fascinated with evolution; he wants to turn the wild life of the island into humans.
But mainly he wants to create evolution directly. He is very spiritual in the sense that he seeks the
meaning of life. He declares himself god almost as he seeks the powers of god, the ability to
manipulate both life and nature at will. Although he is never successful because he lets the animals

The Crucible By Arthur Milller
Arthur Milller s The Crucible and Katherine Howe s Conversion follow teenage girls and how
their individual actions and actions as a group affect colonial Salem Village and present day
Danvers, Massachusetts. In Salem Village an outbreak of witch accusation by a group of young
women tears apart the entire community and has everyone question what the truth is. Religion
and honesty are large factors in peoples views on the situation taking place in Salem. In modern
day Danvers an outbreak of a mystery disease, conversion disorder, similarly has the people of
the town questioning what the truth is. This disorder is exclusively affecting the students of the
all girls catholic high school, St. Joan s. These girls exploit their disorder by talking to media
and going on television. Both stories seem to reflect similar plot lines of rebellion, scandal, and
sex. Both follow the lives of teenage girls who face similar problems. The time of adolescence in
a woman s life is an extremely influential period when one either stands out as a dominant leader,
or falls in line as a follower. Though The Crucible and Conversion are based over three hundred
years apart, both focus on similar motifs regarding female adolescence including rebellious lust, and
the desire for attention and one s individual identity. The theme of rebellious lust is prevalent in
both The Crucible and Conversion through the forbidden relationships of Abigail Williams and
John Proctor, and Emma and Tad Mitchell. This

and stroke. The Campaign for Tobacco Free Children reports startling statistics regarding teen
smoking: Every year more than 300,000 kids under the age of 18 start smoking. Approximately 30

that can change the perception of life, love, and selflessness. The man in the water is perceived

Also, he is seen as courageous, however his true act of couragemay not have been the saving of

Copper Preparation Lab Report
4. Describe the procedure for extracting copper from one of its ores. Include relevant chemical
reactions, equations and energy considerations involved. Extraction of copper from chalcopyrite
(CuFe2) occurs using processes such as: mining crushing, froth flotation, roasting smelting and
electrolytic refining.
Mining the ore
Copper ore contains approximately 0.5% copper and 99.5% unwanted rock. To help separate the
mineral copper from the gangue (sand, rock and other impurities), the ore is crushed and ground to
a fine powder form ball mills (0.3mm particle size). Concentrating the ore (froth floatation)
This is the step in which there is the separation of the mineral is and the gangue. Milled ore is
then mixed with collectors i.e. water, detergent, and oils. This is then fed into banks of floatation
cells or tanks. Here air is blown into the mixture forming bubbles. Copper particles will adhere to
the bubbles which rise to the surface. This froth is then removed and put through another series of
test where the water and other unwanted chemicals are removed. This then leaves the concentrated
metal which is now referred to as the metal concentrate. The ore contains approximately 30%
copper after this process. Gangue is removed from the bottom of the tank ... Show more content on

coal releases heat, the sand and lime act as a fluxing agent, which removes the impurities of the iron

discarded. Copper matte is then formed, a mixture of Copper (I) oxide and copper (I) sulphide
which contains about 50 70% copper. The copper matte is then mixed with additional sand and
smelted again to produce molten copper metal, about 98% pure. Air is blown through molten

The Corruption Of Power In Schindler s List
Power, such a valuable thing that can easily be abused, but what exactly is power? Power is
control, an unbreakable force obtained through higher authority, or at least that is what the
dictionary states. However, is it really power if one fears the corruption of power? Imagine being
crammed in a dingy barrack housed with imprisoned groups of men and women living in
wretched conditions, praying for liberation. Moreover, being treated like an animal, deprived of
food, beaten, and even stripped of your dignity and identity based on your religious beliefs and

Individuality And Morality In A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange: Individuality, Morality, and Growing Up
Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork Orange, presents a struggle between animalistic urges and
mechanistic society by way of the motif of a clockwork orange. Many would agree that a clock and
an orange share little in common other than the fact that they may both be round. However, the
organic nature of an orange combined with the precision and mechanics of a clock curiously
imitates the way people respond to everyday influences. Anthony Burgess capitalizes on the
differences between these two seemingly unrelated objects to present the connection between
morality and conformity within the confines of the novel s narrator, Alex. Throughout the three
parts of the novel, it becomes more apparent that every seemingly harmless life can be manipulated
by the clockwork of society. Alex is a young boy living in the near future, whose obsession with the
brutality of the world around him causes him to act violently. The portrayal of the character Alex as
both a protagonist and an antagonist highlights the psychological turmoil associated with
conforming to society by sacrificing either morality for individuality or individuality for morality.
The word faithful is often misinterpreted as always having a positive connotation. The dictionary
definition of faithful, adhering or true to fact, a standard, an original , can be interpreted more
widely (Dictionary.com). In the beginning of A Clockwork Orange, Alex refers to himself

Mousepox Model
Smallpox is an acute contagious viral disease that has a relatively high fatality rate in
immunologically naive populations. It is caused by variola virus, which is a member of a larger

minor) and it can be transmitted from person to person. There is no specific treatment for this
disease other than the management of symptoms.
It is believed that smallpox originated about 3000 years ago in either Egypt or India. Due to its high

The borden house,Lizzie, her parents, the axe,Lizzie Borden is guilty. This is the story of a young
woman named Lizzie Borden who is accused of whether she murdered her parents or not.In this

perspective people would argue that Lizzie is guilty, but back in the old times when the murder

guilty.
One vital reason why Lizzie Borden is guilty is because she burned her dress. In the article The

burning the dress that she wore on the day of the murder, when her sister asked what she was

evidence suggests Lizzie s guilt because she wore that same dress on the day of the murder. She

Argumentative Essay On Saints Row
Ironically enough for a game that revels in its criminal activity, Saints Row stole most of its
ideas from the Grand Theft Auto series. Admittedly, if you are going to imitate a game you can
do far worse than GTA. Saints Row however goes the extra mile and provides players with a very
enjoyable gameplay experience that goes beyond merely cloning the most popular aspects of
GTA. The game opens with some extensive customization options where you get to create your
inner gangster. You are then promptly chucked into the middle of crossfire between rival gangs.
The leader of the 3rd Street Saints takes pity on you and recruits you to their cause which is
where your life of crime begins. The game is set in the fictional city of Stillwater and to... Show

Kunis lending their vocals to the main characters. Of course, no GTA clone would be complete
without a wealth of radio stations and Saints Row has this covered as well. There is a station for
virtually every genre of music from rock to rap and reggae plus a hilarious talk show one.
Overall, I would say that the music selection is maybe not as mainstream as what the GTA
games have to offer but it is still good. The humor falls a bit flat in place and you can expect a lot
of over the top swearing but overall the audio is good. Due to the customized aspect of your

(Encyclopedia Britannica) Boeing can trace its origins all the way back to 1916. American timber

The Genius of M.C. Escher Essays
The Genius of M.C. Escher
Mathematics is the central ingredient in many artworks. While notions of infinity and parallel lines
brought perspective to the artistic realm in creating realistic representations of depth and
dimension, mathematics has influenced art in a more definite way by actually becoming art. The
introduction of fractal geometry and tessellations as creative works spawned the creation of new
and innovative genres of art, which can be exemplified through the works of M.C Escher. Escher s
pieces are among the most recognized works of art today. While visually stimulating and deeply
meaningful, his art reflects many ideas of mathematics through geometry, symmetry, and patterns.

He once said, Although I am absolute innocent of training or knowledge in the exact sciences, I

Escher Biography Timeline, 1998).
Finally, in 1930, Escher received widespread acclaim for his lithograph entitled Castrovolva. He
continued to incorporate geometry and patterns in his pieces, and found that his work began to be
displayed in science museums rather than art galleries. From 1951 1954 Escher completed some
400 works, by this time a prominent figure in the world of art, the majority of which included such
mathematical principles as polyhedra, infinity, knots, and tessellations.
A polygon is a closed figure bounded by three or more straight line segments. A polyhedron is a
geometric entity composed of polygons connected at their edges to enclose space. Among the most
popular piece that exemplifies the use of polyhedra is entitled Gravity (Figure 1: http:/
/library.advanced.org/16661/escher/trends/1/html) In this Escher work, dinosaur like creatures
emerge from a series of pyramids fit together like a star.
Along with polyhedrons, Escher also incorporated the idea of infinity into numerous pieces.
Fascinated by the concept of bounding infinity, that is representing infinity in an enclosed plane,
Escher attempted to demonstrate this in his work. He once

Should The Missionaries In Tom Seller s Let The Nations Be...
The afterward in Let the Nations Be Glad! is written by Tom Seller, and it is about a little known
passage in the book of 3rd John. Seller talks about sending missionaries into the world, and he
defines a missionary as someone who goes out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the
Gentiles (Piper, p 263). What this means is that these people do not accept aid from governments,
completely sustained by the sending party and local church members. A missionary is a person who
dedicates their entire life to the Great Commission, someone who is obedient to the call of Christ
in a way that makes a profound impact on their job. Many people think that a missionary is
someone who is called to go and spread the gospel to the nations. While this is true, what they
misunderstand is that we are all called to go to the nations, and we are all called to spread the

We go into the nations because Christ, out of his love, came into the world to die as an atoning
sacrifice for our sins. We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). In the same way, people
are called to make disciples of all nations, and our prayer should not be whether to go; instead, it
should be if we should stay. What I love about the conclusion of this book is that Seller shows
that everyone is called to go to the nations. God did not come into the world so that we could
have an easy life, sitting back and enjoying the temporary pleasures that will ultimately not fulfill
us. Christ came so that we might go to the hard places and minister to the unlovable that they too
might see the vast riches of God, and understand the magnitude of the love that God has for His
people. We must send people and commit to that sending, and as a result God will be magnified
among all people, and great will be the reward be for those who live out the Great

Exercise and Depression
The purpose of the trial was to see the effects of exercise on depression and neuroendocrine stress
hormones such as urinary cortisol and epinephrine. The study consisted of two hundred sixty six
volunteers who were students of a nursing school in Thailand. All the individuals went through a
screening test, CES D, which was a self report test in which they would rank common symptoms
of depression to determine if they fall within the range of mild to severe. Forty nine volunteers

Since it is a topic that lately has been of hot debate on the news and articles found within the
internet, in the future I would spread this study to different ranges of groups such as adolescent
males, adult men and females and even children that are younger than adolescents because
depression is not found within just one specific age group. I would do this so the study can
highlight more of how exercise affects depression within a typical population. As well I would
split the participants of a future study into more than two groups, around possibly four in total.
By adding two more groups of different exercise intensities, this can help us predict if higher
levels of exercise intensity make a bigger difference or be less beneficial compared to the normal
physical exercise program that was conducted over a 8 week time frame originally. I would
continue to keep the control group in order to have it be used as a comparison. My big question
next would be, Are there any other variables that would be as or more helpful to combat depression

Moral Integrity In Nursing
Moral integrity is the key ingredient of professional nurses to represent ability of nurses to give

Social Class in Jane Austen
Throughout this essay , I will be looking at the theme of social class in Jane Austen s work ;
critically analysed by Juliet McMaster, a chapter taken from The Cambridge Companion to Jane
Austen , edited by Edward Copeland and Juliet McMaster. Jane Austen s novels at first glance tell
a story of romance, set within the landowning society amidst country estates, and their cultivation
of tea parties, social outings, and extravagant balls; ladies frolicking in flowing gowns through
decorated rooms, and men deliberating over their game of whist. The storybook romance usually
unfolds in these familiar settings, and inevitably involves the conflict of two lovers separated by
differences in social class, and the resulting influence of the... Show more content on

This system unfairly gives privilege to one family member by giving him /her everything, for
the preservation of the family name and the estate throughout the generations. Hence the five
Longbourn girls are to be turned out upon their father s death, since the estate is entailed to Mr.
Collins. Charles Bingley is the most we witness of social mobility. He is a gentleman who lives
a lavish life, and whose money was acquired by trade . He walks in his father s footsteps, and
once married to Jane, he does buy an estate. This means that the next generation will be a step
upwards in their social ladder. His sisters on the other hand are status and power hungry and are
proud and conceited . Darcy, rebutes, very realistically that the Bennet sisters connection with
trade, will prove to be an obstacle to their happiness and will lessen their chance of marrying men
of prestige. The quality of humans is judged by moral and humane standards. Charlotte Lucas
chooses to marry the pompous Mr. Collins, not for love but it is simply a marriage of convenience,
in which she is the one finding it convenient. Through this Jane Austen presents the bleak and futile
existence of women, as well as the happier outcome, of the heroine who finds fulfillment in
marrying the man she loves. The servants in Jane Austen s novels represent the poor working class.
The poor are seldom mentioned, except through Lady Catherine s scolding of degradation. Human

Roman Funeral Eulogy
The upper class
The class in society a Roman held, played a huge role in how elaborate the funeral ceremony was,
and how well the body was preserved.
The wealthy would be guarentted an elaborate ceremony. The body of the deceased would be on
display for mourning for a lengthy period of time, and treated with extreme care, as explained
earlier. The body would never be left alone as it was belived this would be bad luck for the
deceaseds afterlife. After the mourning period, the funeral wpuld take place. It is a common
misperception that the funeral was a big parade, when in reality it was a quiet affair, and the
funeral procession was more of a celebration.
A Eulogy was usually only read for the very wealthy, differing from how funerals are conducted
today. However these were usually resrved only for the families with links to power. An example
of how a eulogy would go, is seen in Julius Caesars eulogy to his Aunt Julia, known as laudatio
Iuliae amitae. The translated English version begins The family of my aunt Julia is descended by
her mother from the kings, and on her father s side is akin to the immortal ... Show more content on

Roman society was truly all about the wealth a person had in everything that was done. Death was
one of the very few things however to where even the poorest romans were treated decently. This
is because it was viewed politically and socially right to lay a soul to rest. If the wealthy didn t
assist the lower class with this, they would be haunted by the evil spirits (or so they believed). For
this reason, burial soceities were formed, known as the collegia. This meant that each week, citizens
in the lower class would put a small amount of money towards this, meaning that when they died,
the collegia would look after and supply the necessary

recognition in contractual transactions. The new accounting standards require revenue to be

Test Taking Strategies
Test Taking Strategies
For 10 years, I was the one testing the students, teaching strategies and finding new ones to help
students study. Suddenly, I found myself returning to school and the anxiety, stress, lack of time,
and just all the unknowns seemed to overwhelm my life. The last couple of years I have learned to
incorporate strategies that work best for me, but there is always room for improvement and
strengthening. Learning, study and test taking skills are some of the most important things to have
when furthering your education. Upon reading Strategies for Test Success by Linda Anne Silvestri,
I was able to scrutinize some of my weaknesses, reevaluate my learning style, and look at some

Test Strategies Not so Helpful
There are so many strategy recommendations for students. While each have good points, some are
more helpful than others. Strategies that don t seem as helpful to me are simulating actual test like
circumstances when studying for the exam, study groups, note taking by using the fancy systems.
These three strategies just seem to increase my stress level to the point I feel like I am not learning.
Simulating actual test like circumstances has just never worked for me as I usually don t pick
the correct information to test myself on and the important information gets left behind. Study
groups cause me too much pressure because I find that one or two people seem to be putting the
study guides together. This is a pet peeve for me; I don t mind sharing my ideas but don t expect
me to do all the work and then hand it to you. The final one that has never worked for me is
taking notes by using one of the many note taking systems. I find myself spending too much time
trying to remember what needs to be written where, organizing, how to fold the paper. I have
developed my own crazy way of taking notes over the years. Note taking is an area that I feel is

Mark Twain Unconscious Plagiarism
Mark Twain was a very talented man who did many great things in his time. Mark Twain was a
writer and was very good at his writing too. He sold many books in his time and was also a good
person. When he did something wrong, he knew he did and when he did something right, he didn t
get full of himself or rude. Mark Twain was a man of honesty, he was very successful in his writing,
and was a great author of stories. Mark Twain was a very honest man. In the writing piece
written by Mark Twain, titled, Unconscious Plagiarism , it says, Perhaps I unconsciously stole
the rest of the volume, too, for many people have told me that my book was pretty poetical one
way or another. Well, of course, I wrote Doctor Holmes and told him I hadn t meant to steal and
he wrote back and said in the kindest way that it was all right and no harm done; and added that
he believed we all unconsciously worked over ideas gathered in reading and hearing, imagining
they were original with ourselves. This was written because Mark Twain wrote something and a
man told him that it was very similar to someone else s writing. The man showed him proof of it
and Mark Twain realized that he had read poems written by another man before he had begun
writing and accidentally stole this man s way of writing without realizing it. But after he realized
this, he owned up to it and apologized for it. There are many examples but this is just one of the
many that show you that Mark Twain was a very truthful person.

  • 2. Analysis Of Midaq Alley Setting is used in literature in order to set the time and place as well as the mood within a literary piece. Mahfouz uses various settings throughout the novel in order to showcase the development of Hamida s rebellious character. The different settings come together to deliver the important message of Hamida s literal and metaphoric entrapment, loss of her identity, and the development of her rebelliousness. Since the novel takes place during WWII in the 1940s, it brings about the idea of modernization due to the colonization of the British, which shows that the setting plays a major role in portraying Hamida as a rebellious character. As Midaq Alley is a translated book from Arabic to English, it may have lost its original value in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The alley is also said to live in complete isolation from all surrounding activity (Mahfouz,1) indicating that it is entirely bounded and all activity that happens in it is restricted to only the people of the alley showing how the topographical trap also relates to the social entrapment that the alley is facing. With no reference to the outside world, the alley is bound to be a trap that no one, not even Hamida, can escape. The claustrophobic state of the alley reflects the oppression propagated by the alleys rejection to modern values. This is further shown by the description of the atmosphere of the alley when it is described to be veiled in the brown hues of the glow. (Mahfouz,1) the use of the color brown, indicating visual imagery, shows the negative claustrophobic, and gloomy atmosphere which runs through the alley. The color brown is a color between black and white, symbolizing negativity and positivity, respectively. However, the color black is more evident in the color brown, therefore symbolizing negativity of the alley as it was veiled with the brown hues meaning it was masked with gloominess and pessimism. The alley is also described as having a distinctive life of its own (Mahfouz,1) proving once again that the alley and the people within it are limited between the boundaries of the alley and their life only consists of the people within the alley with no ... SEC alleged that Mark Cuban violated misappropriate insider trading. To be qualified as misappropriate insider trading, an individual wrongfully obtains (misappropriates) inside information and trades on it for her or his personal benefit. In this case, Cuban actually traded his shares based on the material inside information he was told and saved him $750,000 in losses. Wrongful misappropriation means violation of a fiduciary duty. The Court found that Cuban had not misappropriated any material non public information because he had not violated a legal duty to refrain from trading. Cuban had not promised that he would not trade after learning about a PIPE offering. The judge also said that the SEC failed to show that Cuban undertook a legal duty to not use the information he learned from those two phone calls with Mamma.com representatives. Mark Cuban did not have any fiduciary duty to not act upon the information. The Mamma.com CEO asked Cuban to keep their conversation confidential. However, that didn t prove that Cuban had a legal duty to Mamma.com that would prohibit him from selling his shares based on what he was told. • 14. Descriptive Essay About State Park Brook! You will never guess what I saw at the state park in Arkansas with my family. I want to hear all about it, walk me through it step by step and don t leave any detail out. OK, I will start with the drive to the park. The road is secluded, trees encompass you as you drive. The GPS directs that it is only a few more miles, but in your mind, you know you need to turn around. Then the trees open up to a little wooden cabin just off the road. After 6 hours in the vehicle, you bust open the door, and as your legs swing out the door, you can feel a stretch throughout your entire body. Your body was stiff but now is surrounded by the fresh air. The little cabin is actually a camp store, and in it you find the assistance and the map needed to tackle the upcoming adventure. The road winds a few more miles till you near the lodge. Buckled down with water, a camera, and wearing the proper shoes you walk toward the trail. Something catches your eye, and with a turn of your head, there it is. The lodge overlooks the most incredible view, one that could only have been created by God. The lookout reveals mountains of trees with an unforeseeable future. After admiring the beauty, the trail calls your name. It starts out wide and covered with gravel, without a moment to think the terrain changes. You start to walk down the mountain, the gravel turned to dirt and with the help from the dew and rain it was mud, and the mountain grew a little steeper with every breath. Later, you ... Characteristics Of Gun Shootings When conducting an investigation for a homicide due to a handgun it is important that investigators and firearms technicians have an understanding on how a handgun is manufactured, what is a bore, rifling patterns and their purpose, and caliber. Class and individual characteristics are present in handguns, projectiles and shell casings. Every handgun contains general rifling characteristics based on the number and width of grooves, as well as the direction of grooves. After a handgun is fired it can present with penetrating and perforating gunshot wounds, which have specific entry and exit characteristics. The muzzle to distance characteristics vary depending on how close or distant the shooter was from the victim or surface. Also, the handgun or ammunitionshould be dusted for fingerprint and DNA evidence. Early handguns of the 14th century were made of a bronze tube or wrought iron, packed with gun powder and a projectile then ignited through a touch hole. These early guns were wildly inaccurate and often failed. In the story by Jack London, To Build a Fire, the main character learns a hard lesson of reality, when he meets his fate. The result came about because of many factors, mainly the man s lack of psychological perserverance on the journey, as well as the harsh temperatureand surroundings. Without any imagination to focus his thoughts elsewhere, the man helped himself collapse into his final doom. With the expanding apparel industries around the world, more and more corporations are using sweatshop factories to their advantage. Extraction of copper from chalcopyrite (CuFe2) occurs using processes such as: mining crushing, froth flotation, roasting smelting and electrolytic refining. Mining the ore Copper ore contains approximately 0.5% copper and 99.5% unwanted rock. To help separate the mineral copper from the gangue (sand, rock and other impurities), the ore is crushed and ground to a fine powder form ball mills (0.3mm particle size). Concentrating the ore (froth floatation) This is the step in which there is the separation of the mineral is and the gangue. Milled ore is then mixed with collectors i.e. water, detergent, and oils. This is then fed into banks of floatation cells or tanks. Here air is blown into the mixture forming bubbles. Copper particles will adhere to the bubbles which rise to the surface. This froth is then removed and put through another series of test where the water and other unwanted chemicals are removed. This then leaves the concentrated metal which is now referred to as the metal concentrate. The ore contains approximately 30% copper after this process. However, the organic nature of an orange combined with the precision and mechanics of a clock curiously imitates the way people respond to everyday influences. Anthony Burgess capitalizes on the differences between these two seemingly unrelated objects to present the connection between morality and conformity within the confines of the novel s narrator, Alex. Throughout the three parts of the novel, it becomes more apparent that every seemingly harmless life can be manipulated by the clockwork of society. • 56. Test Taking Strategies Test Taking Strategies For 10 years, I was the one testing the students, teaching strategies and finding new ones to help students study. Suddenly, I found myself returning to school and the anxiety, stress, lack of time, and just all the unknowns seemed to overwhelm my life. The last couple of years I have learned to incorporate strategies that work best for me, but there is always room for improvement and strengthening. Learning, study and test taking skills are some of the most important things to have when furthering your education. Upon reading Strategies for Test Success by Linda Anne Silvestri, I was able to scrutinize some of my weaknesses, reevaluate my learning style, and look at some new test taking strategies while assessing ... (Kaplan Nursing: Lipponcott) Test Strategies Not so Helpful There are so many strategy recommendations for students. While each have good points, some are more helpful than others. Strategies that don t seem as helpful to me are simulating actual test like circumstances when studying for the exam, study groups, note taking by using the fancy systems. These three strategies just seem to increase my stress level to the point I feel like I am not learning. Simulating actual test like circumstances has just never worked for me as I usually don t pick the correct information to test myself on and the important information gets left behind. Study groups cause me too much pressure because I find that one or two people seem to be putting the study guides together. This is a pet peeve for me; I don t mind sharing my ideas but don t expect me to do all the work and then hand it to you. The final one that has never worked for me is taking notes by using one of the many note taking systems. I find myself spending too much time trying to remember what needs to be written where, organizing, how to fold the paper. I have developed my own crazy way of taking notes over the years. Note taking is an area that I feel is individualize for each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Mark Twain Unconscious Plagiarism Mark Twain was a very talented man who did many great things in his time. Mark Twain was a writer and was very good at his writing too. He sold many books in his time and was also a good person. When he did something wrong, he knew he did and when he did something right, he didn t get full of himself or rude. Mark Twain was a man of honesty, he was very successful in his writing, and was a great author of stories. Mark Twain was a very honest man. In the writing piece written by Mark Twain, titled, Unconscious Plagiarism , it says, Perhaps I unconsciously stole the rest of the volume, too, for many people have told me that my book was pretty poetical one way or another. Well, of course, I wrote Doctor Holmes and told him I hadn t meant to steal and he wrote back and said in the kindest way that it was all right and no harm done; and added that he believed we all unconsciously worked over ideas gathered in reading and hearing, imagining they were original with ourselves. This was written because Mark Twain wrote something and a man told him that it was very similar to someone else s writing. The man showed him proof of it and Mark Twain realized that he had read poems written by another man before he had begun writing and accidentally stole this man s way of writing without realizing it. But after he realized this, he owned up to it and apologized for it. There are many examples but this is just one of the many that show you that Mark Twain was a very truthful person. ...
