Frederick II Compare And Contrast Essay
Emperor Frederick II of Germany and King Louis IX of France were both important figureheads of
the crusades as they personally prepared for the departure and led the army to the Holy Land. This
indicated a transition of responsibility for crusading from the Church to royal figures. Even though
Louis IX s crusades failed and Frederick II s crusade gained control of the Holy Land, Louis IX
became a saint whereas Frederick II was declared the Antichrist. Therefore, the outcome of the
crusades led by both kings did not determine the public s approval and disapproval. Despite failing
both of his crusades, Louis IX became a saint because of his sincere intention and devotion to liberate
the Holy Land. Frederick II, on the other hand, was indifferent toward the faith and the main purpose
for him to lead the crusade was to acquire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other than various documents praising Louis personality, even his enemy praised him for being noble.
Since his father took part in the Albigensian Crusade, Louis grew up in a family of past crusaders with
chivalry tradition. Therefore, he had a strong sense of justice and religious identity. Louis was
passionate about leading his own crusade in order to save Jerusalem and restore the honor of the
Church. He used most of France s resources to fund the crusades during the preparation process. Louis
also gained Innocent IV s trust since the pope gave Louis one tenth of his church s revenue. Even after
losing his first crusade, the king took full responsible for it and committed to his position as a ruler of
France for penance. Meanwhile, he still assisted the crusader kingdom in different ways such as
sending them funds from France. During his trip to the Holy Land, all people joyfully welcomed him.
Louis s presence had stabilized Jerusalem s internal conflicts. Furthermore, Louis improved the
defenses of the crusader

Cultural Commodification InThey Are Taking Our Culture Away
Abstract They Are Taking our Culture Away by Elisabeth Kirtsoglou and Dimitrios Theodossopoulos
discusses the Garifuna community and their struggle with cultural commodification and how their
community handles and tries to fix it. Throughout They are Taking our Culture Away Elisabeth and
Dimitrios looked at the many ways the Garifuna are being commodified. Within this paper what they
researched will also be discussed and also what can be done to help preserve this culture.
Commodification as a broad topic will play a large role in this paper, and whether or not culture is a
commodity that should be bought and sold. Commodification will also be talked about in terms with
what role it plays in a culture and the affects that it has on modern tourism and the tourist s outlook on
the world and other cultures.
Commodification
Commodification is defined as a way to make something into an object for commercial use . In terms
of culture and tourism, commodification refers to using a place s culture and the cultural artifacts to
make a large enough profit to support part of the area s economy . Commodification is found
everywhere in modern tourism. Although there may be good things about cultural commodification,
such as profit, there are many more bad aspects to it. For example, commodification alters a tourists
potentiality to have an authentic experience while visiting another culture. This then introduces the
tourist to a false culture and strays them away from the

The Theories Of Schizophreni Dopamine, Glutamate, Brain...
The four theories that are behind the cause of schizophrenia as referenced in the PowerPoint are
Dopamine, Glutamate, Brain Abnormalities, and Nature vs. Nurture / More than one cause.
1. Dopamine
Definition
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter. It is one of the chemicals that is responsible for transmitting signals
between the neurons of the brain. However, very few of those neurons actually produce dopamine.
(psychologytoday.com)
Theory
The main theory concerning dopamine is that too much it can result in schizophrenia. Antipsychotic
medications that are used to treat schizophrenia block dopamine receptors. The purpose of these
medications is to bind the dopamine receptors to the brain, and some of their effects have helped
people cope with the symptoms. (healthcommunities.com) The regions of the brain that are affected
by dopamine are known as the striatum and the thalamus. Schizophrenia results have shown that in
these regions in the brain, there are altered levels of D2 binding potential. Patients that have
schizophrenia who do not take antipsychotic medications will have a lower thalamic D2 binding
potential. So, schizophrenia patients that go untreated have a higher number of D2 receptors in the
striatum. (psychcentral.com)
2. Glutamate
Definition
Glutamate is an amino acid that functions as a neurotransmitter. It sends chemical messages in the
brain by exciting neurons that are sensitive to it. It performs an important role in memory, brain
development, and

American Kitefliers Research Paper
Did you know that there is something in the United States called the American Kitefliers Association?
And there s something called competitive stunt kiting. As you might expect, the people who compete
in stunt kiting competitions are interesting folks. At Collectors Weekly, they ve got a profile of
Richard Dermer. He is a pizza shop owner and kite collector. The walls of Dermer s pizza joint are
covered in kites from all over the world. That is impressive enough. But it s not his only
accomplishment. Dermer worked at Hideaways, one of the first pizza places in Oklahoma. It opened
in the late 1950s, when pizza was an exotic food. He bought the joint in 1960. He delivered pizzas in
these weird Volkswagen Beetles. They were painted like Herbie and lady ... Show more content on

He told Collectors Weekly: I was very much a novice, but I started learning. And the more we got into
going to kite festivals and collecting kites, the more I discovered and the deeper the subject became.
My kite book library now runs over a hundred volumes. I learn stuff new every time I go to an event.
And I think the kites out in the garage are multiplying when the lights are out. What does Dermer s
collection and hobby bring to the United States? It brings an international perspective and history on
kite flying. In India, for example, kite flying is a fierce. It is a sometimes violent sport. In Thailand,
kite battles reflect the war of the sexes between men and women. Kites were used in World War II.
They were used to distract German planes and for target practice. When Dermer started stunt kiting, it
was pretty new. All the kits were triangular, they all looked about the same. But soon, Dermer told
Collectors Weekly, that changed. In the 80s and 90s, kites went through quite a developmental phase
where they were getting better and better as new lighter, stronger materials were being developed.

Flexible Budget Research
Introduction
A budget is considered as a standard to facilitate control work activities of the organization. Budgets
are planning tools prepared firstly to start the period being budgeted. Valuable information about the
performance contains of the difference between the actual results and the planning budgets. Therefore,
budgets are both planning tools and performance evaluation.
The most common important element in budget is some measure of anticipated output such as the
number of units to be produce, the number of units to be sold, the cost of good sold_direct material,
direct labor, overhead cost,.. need in production, selling and administrative expenses,....
The flexible budget is a performance evaluation tool ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Determine the actual volume of output achieved. 4. Before a flexible budget can be produced,
managers must identify fixed costs and variable costs. Fixed costs are costs which will not increase or
decrease over a given range of activity. Variable costs are costs which will increase or decrease over a
given range of activity.
Management have identified that the following budgeted costs are fixed:
Direct labor = $8,400
Overheads = $53,000
Identifying the expected variable cost per unit produced and sold:
[pic]
Now that managers are aware of the fixed costs and the variable costs per unit it is possible to flex the
original budget to produce a budget cost allowance for 1,000 units produced and sold. For the costs
which are wholly fixed or wholly variable the calculation of the budget cost allowance is fairly
straightforward. The remaining costs are semi variable, which means that they are partly fixed and
partly variable. Setting the flexible budget:

|Units of production | |1,000 |1,200 |

The photograph does not give the viewer much context in terms of where the image was captured or

be analyzed in, Yes, a T Shirt! : Assessing Visual Composition in the Writing Class. They debate how
with the emergence of visuals in compliance with writing, will change how people assess works and
analyze the composer s ability to communicate (Odell W201). The notion that the composer of either
the writing or visual is trying to communicate something is very important in understanding the image
of the twin towers. Because imagery should no longer just be considered something that is purely
aesthetic. It needs to provoke sensory expressions to reveal cultural meaning to show how two planes
not only brought down two buildings, but brought a proud and powerful nation to its knees. How the
framework of a country, like the buildings, have been wounded. Lee Odell and Susan Katz explain
visual rhetoric so that viewers can accurately understand what an image is attempting to communicate.
The picture shows violence and displays world conflict, and is acting as a tribute to those who were
lost and to the towers themselves for the purpose they served. The clear blue skies behind the
buildings almost look serene and calming before the collapse of the tours, hinting that everything was
calm before the storm. That no one would expect a terrorist attack on the United States home front.

how high achieving students struggle in college because they never had to try in highschool, and thus

Limiting Child Poverty
Child poverty: Limiting children s life chances

Child poverty is an issue which affects our society and will continue to as more individuals struggle
from low income to be able to provide their families with the basic materials needed to survive.
Throughout analysing the article you are able to identify that main purpose behind the text is to
discuss the issue around child poverty and the detrimental effects it can have a child s lifestyle,

Society is able to notice how child poverty has been on the increase for the past number of years and
how this has gone on to develop moral panic. As more individuals are made aware of the significance

living conditions, those who suffer from poverty are at an increased chance of living in inadequate

The Government Bioethics Conspiracy Of The United States
World governments have frequently relied on unknowing participants and or prisoners of war for
experimentation. While these experiments range vastly concerning procedures, outcomes, and
justification, they all existed to outsmart international enemies efficiently. The government bioethics
conspiracy I researched is Project MKUltra. This was a secretive CIA program that experimented with
mind control, hallucinogenic drugs, and the behavioral engineering of humans from 1953 to 1973.
Because the program existed for a couple decades, it encompassed a wide range of experiments, types
of patients, and immense secrecy. More often than not, test subjects were not aware of tests to be
conducted and thought they were participating in standard medical tests at first. Despite the program
coming to a halt, many believe human experimentation is still ongoing and don t see a future without
secret government research. Project MKUltra was initiated by the CIA and the U.S. Army s CHemical
Corps in the early 1950 s and quickly became an immense project that covered over 80 institutions,
and involved hundreds of scientists. (Horrock, Nicholas M. (4 Aug 1977). 80 Institutions Used in
C.I.A. Mind Studies: Admiral Turner Tells Senators of Behavior Control Research Bars Drug Testing

participants were cognizant of forthcoming events. One example is Ken Kesey who willingly took part

The Between Politics And Religion
1. Islam, as we saw early in this course, began with a fusion of religion and politics. How do the
various approaches to Islam we ve studied traditionalism as represented by the ulama, Sufism,
Islamism, and modernism differ in conceiving of the relationship between the two? Does each
necessarily have a vision of an Islamic engagement with politics and, if so, what does it look like?
The interaction between politics and religion in the Islamic context is one that descends from the
model of the Prophet Muhammad, who served as a transcendental figure and as a community leader at
the same time. Inevitably, then, these two aspects of Muhammad s position interacted to some degree.
Indeed, this intermingling of the political and the religious is seen in the very framework of Islam as
we know it the umma is at once a community defined around a religious identity and a political entity
extant through that religious identity. Nevertheless, Islam remains a diverse religion encompassing a
number of various ideologies frameworks by which the textual and traditional material of the faith are
interpreted and understood. This paper will examine a number of these ideological approaches to
Islam namely traditionalism, modernism, Islamism, and Sufism and explain their visions of how Islam
should relate with politics. Before I delve into this examination, however, it is worthwhile to spend a
moment defining the two terms at the center of the analysis. Within this paper, I

The Revolutions Of The Celestial Orbs By Nicolaus...
The texts The Revolutions of the Celestial Orbs by Nicolaus Copernicus and Two New Sciences by
Galileo demonstrates a powerful illustration of heliocentric hypothesis. In each book, astronomer
Nicolas Copernicus and Scientist Galileo Galilei describes their theory and assumption about the
motion and shapes of the planets and objects based on their understandings and advocating earlier
scientist s thoughts. Nicolas Copernicus describes Sun as the center of the universe, which is spherical
in shape and other planets(wanderers), which are also spherical revolve around the sun in a Uniform,
Eternal, and Circular motion. Likewise, Galileo defines the motion of massive bodies (planets) are
steady and uniform, and distance traveled by these bodies are equivalent at equal intervals of time.
However, in Idols of the Mind, Francis Bacon demonstrated that there were flaws in the assumptions
made by the scientists because they conducted the practical experiments and theories based on their
own understanding. According to his scientific investigations, past scientific thinkers used tests and
experiments based on their thoughts, which he thinks corrupts the nature of things as they try to
compound their nature with it. Copernicus and Galileo commit errors by demonstrating theories and
performing experiments based on the human understandings of themselves and other scientists, like
Aristotle. However, because this leads to the corruption of a more natural way of thinking, Francis

The Plight Of The Afghan Women Analysis
Letter to the Editor
Dear Abdullah Quazi,
I am very impressed with the information presented in your article The Plight of the Afghan Women . I
was not aware that Afghan women were treated so badly as you mention in the text. Besides, I had no
idea they had so many restrictions and that men consider them inferior just because of their gender.
After reading your publication and doing some research I couldn t believe this type of things were
happening.
I can t conceive the idea that Afghan women did not have the right to work, leave their estate alone or
without a male accompaniment, receive medical attention from a male doctor, and be forced to cover
themselves from head to toe with a burqa, showing as less skin as possible. In my opinion ... Show

In this case the government should have more control over this and force the unscrupulous men to
amend women for what they have done to them.
I totally agree with the fact that Afghan women have now the right to vote, the right of education, the
right to work, the right to choose their own partners in marriage and that the government no longer
forces them to wear the all covering burqa. Despite many would agree that the political and cultural
position of Afghan women has improved substantially, I consider that there is still much more to do
before men and women have exactly the same rights.
Something that baffles me is why the percentages of illiterate women is still very high. Although they
have access to education, 87 % of Afghan women are still illiterate. The same things happen with
forced marriage. Around 70% 80% percent of women face forced marriages in Afghanistan This is

I Was Driving Home From School Essay
I was driving home from school when all the sudden I see a light flashing on the dash of my car. It was
the oil light telling me that it was time to have an oil change, so instead of driving home I went
straight to the toyota dealership because at the time I drove a Toyota Landcruiser. When I got there
they handed me a clipboard full of information i needed to fill out. It took me a full ten minutes to
complete and even after all that they still handed me more papers to write my signature on, I thought
to myself, all that for a simple oil change . After finally completing all the paperwork a man took me
to the dealerships waiting room and told me that my oil change should not take long. I was happy to
hear that because I wanted to be on my way. I only expected to be there for 25 to 30 minutes, so after
20 minutes I started looking at the door hoping someone would walk in and tell me they finished the
oil change. Ten minutes later and still nothing. I was getting very impatient and I was starting to work
an appetite. The worst part is they had the food channel on and no remote for me to change the
channel with, so i got up and went to go find a vending machine. Near the car displays they had a
popcorn machine so i scooped myself a small bag full. The popcorn was super salty and stale and what
made it even worse was there was no water to be found. So now i m sitting back in the waiting room
hungry and thirsty with a bag of uneaten popcorn, and still no word about my car. A

Culture Clash In House Of Sand And Fog By Amy Tan
The world has a variety of cultures and religions, and in this generation these different
cultures mix. It is not easy for some people to accept these different faiths and morals, however
they learn to day by day. In books such as House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III and The Joy
Luck Club by Amy Tan, the authors convey the theme of the clash of cultures. Writing books
about different cultures and the struggle of their acceptance, is crucial for modern society because
it gives the world a realistic view on what is actually happening. Perhaps the message the authors
are trying to send with the theme of culture clash, is that because of all the different cultures,
people should learn to accept the variety.

In the Joy Luck Club, all of the chinese mothers have a poor relationship with their
daughters, mostly because of the language barrier and the daughters non existing knowledge of

mei, or June, wants to be known as an American, not Chinese. Either it
is the fact that being Chinese embarrasses her or she does not feel Chinese because she does not
know the language, June Woo is stuck in between two of her cultures colliding. It is easy to not
feel one s nationality when no one takes the time to teach it. June s mother never really has the
desire to teach June about Chinese culture, she just expects June to know it already. June goes as
far as saying, I didn t have to do what my mother said anymore. I wasn t her slave. This wasn t
China. I had listened to her before and look what happened. She was the stupid one (141). By
making that little jab at Chinese communism, it is quite obvious June does not know much about
Chinese culture, however, she seems to compare American and Chinese culture together. Although

Pardoner In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer is a risen star during the Hundred Years War. Chaucer was a talented writer, who
translated The Romance of the Rose and wrote The House of Fame, The Legend of Good Women, and
The Parliament of Fowls...etc. Pardoner is a character from Chaucer s masterpiece The Canterbury
Tales. Pardoner is not only one of the major role in the Prologue, but also the character Chaucer
dislikes the most. Chaucer described Pardoner had hair as yellow as wax, ...... Thinly they fell, like rat
tails, one by one (L694 L697 The Canterbury Tales). As the reader keeps going down the line,
Pardoner s personality shows vividly that he is a untrustworthy, selfish man. In the Prologue, Pardoner

Project A Satire
The action hero who does all his own stunts , that is what American audiences started calling famous
Chinese director, actor, and martial arts expert Jackie Chan. His movies are known to be action
packed, full of hand to hand combat, as well as having some comedic moments. The films analyzed in
this paper will be Project A (1982), Project A 2(1987), as well as Police Story (1985). All of these take
place in Hong Kong and are filled with satirical comedy as well as many martial arts scenes. During
the 1980 s, Hong Kong was known for its wealth, and it was recognized for its politics, expensive real
estate prices, as well as their entertainment. During that time, the manufacturing industry fell, as other
economic aspects like foreign trade and personal and general community services increased. Since

However, when it comes to satirical comedy, I noticed a clear distinction between the three movies.
The first two parts of Project A, give the impression of trying to portray a more serious role. On the
other hand, Police Story, has plenty of satirical moments as well as some sarcastic ones. My
conclusion to this is because Jackie Chan is trying to make fun of the Hong Kong society at the time.
During the 1980 s, crime in Hong Kong was abundant, and because of it, the director of the film tried
to ridicule the drug cartel portrayed in the movie. They are played as clumsy, and easily defeated by
Jackie Chan s incredible martial arts skills. During the whole movie, the astute policeman, played by
Jackie Chan, constantly outsmarts the Hong Kong drug cartel. In other words, the Hong Kong cartel is
portrayed as stupid and incompetent. During the Project A films however, even though we do see this
overpower of the protagonist on his enemies, it is not as apparent. Sanpao, as well as his followers,

The Harms Of Plagiarism In Finding Forrester
In the movie Finding Forrester , it s main focus was to imply the word Plagiarism into the acts of the
main character Jamal Wallace. This plays a role later into the movie in which he is assumed to have
plagiarized the work of William Forrester a famous writer. Although the movie promotes the harms of
plagiarism it also tells a good story about a friendship amongst two strangers. Throughout the movie
Jamal Wallace developes a friendship with William Forrester that starts to become more than just
writing sessions in an apartment. They begin to find a friendship within themselves due to their same
abilities as writer, and begin to trust one another in keeping secrets solely just inside Forrester s
apartment. Both characters really show the true meaning of what a friendship should be between two
people no matter if they have the same interest or are different from one another. Jamal is a kid from
the Bronx who is shown to be an African American student that seems to be an average student that
receives C s in his classes. From the town he is from many people believe that during this time a guy
who is African American was not educated and would not go far in anything they do but to be in jail.
For Jamal at the age of 16 he didn t believe that he had a plan of what he wanted in life so he lived as
if he was a regular kid going to school. Jamal lived up to the belief at that time that African Americans
were not intelligent enough and lacked ambition to make something of themselves. He pretends to be
much less than he truly is capable of being and doesn t feel like he needs to express how well of a
writer he can be. Although he portrays this character of being an average student at his school his test
results shows that anyone can be smart and can be there true self once they truly find what they want
in there future. After Jamal gets to know William Forrester, and begins to learn the true meaning
behind writing and he begins to find his true self through his writing and who he is as a person. He
begins to love the passion writing has to offer after being taught the true meaning of why William

reactions in regard to this event to see where they have come from and I will look at ways I could have

we wish to reflect on. This needs to be clear and concise, giving a very clear picture of what has gone

Stage 2 of the model looks in depth at Feelings. Here I would look at what I was feeling at that

where I would stand back and get a good sense of how it all went and examine my judgements a bit

The Department Of Homeland Security Made Us Safer
Has the Department of Homeland Security Made Us Safer?
As one of the greatest power houses in the world, the United States has attempted to keep warfare on
foreign soil rather than stateside. Doing so was a lot easier when war was fought between two
different countries, but nowadays, the main source of conflict around the world comes from small
bands of people who reside, not in one country or place, but spread throughout the world.
Traditionally military servicemen would wear some type of camouflage utilities and would be
carrying their rifles at the ready in case of any contact. Combat has dramatically changed and has
made it extremely harder to distinguish enemy from friendly or natural forces. Bombs are created to
be worn under cloths, IEDs (or improvised Explosive Devices) are hidden under roadways, and in my
opinion, war has become more of a cowardice game hide and seek. This shift in combat strategies has
made keeping warfare away from the homeland harder and harder. After the Attacks on the United
States on 11 September 2105, the government created the Department of Homeland Security in order
to protect our nation from further attacks.
The proposal to create the department of Homeland Security was created in the early months of 2002
and officially became an Act of congress later that same year. The department opened its doors and
two months later and Tom Ridge, a Pennsylvania Governor, was appointed to be the first director of

Law Enforcement Cameras Infringe On People s Right To Privacy
Surveillance cameras are widely used around the world by both law enforcement officers and private
entities. The main purpose of installing these devices is to identify any suspicious behavior or criminal
activities (Costa, Guedes, Vasques Portugal 1). For example, in American cities, the police monitor
and ticket those who run red lights or drive past the set speed limits using surveillance cameras. State
officials monitor these cameras from different locations in the country. With technological
advancements, these devices can reveal one s identity, car number plates, and some even show any
items hidden underneath clothing. Nations around the world continue to intensify public surveillance
in a bid to provide a safe environment for their citizens. However, not all persons support the use of

However, very few of those neurons actually produce dopamine. (psychologytoday.com) Theory The main theory concerning dopamine is that too much it can result in schizophrenia. Antipsychotic medications that are used to treat schizophrenia block dopamine receptors. The purpose of these medications is to bind the dopamine receptors to the brain, and some of their effects have helped people cope with the symptoms. (healthcommunities.com) The regions of the brain that are affected by dopamine are known as the striatum and the thalamus. Schizophrenia results have shown that in these regions in the brain, there are altered levels of D2 binding potential. Patients that have schizophrenia who do not take antipsychotic medications will have a lower thalamic D2 binding potential. So, schizophrenia patients that go untreated have a higher number of D2 receptors in the striatum. (psychcentral.com) 2. Glutamate Definition Glutamate is an amino acid that functions as a neurotransmitter. It sends chemical messages in the brain by exciting neurons that are sensitive to it. It brings an international perspective and history on kite flying. In India, for example, kite flying is a fierce. It is a sometimes violent sport. In Thailand, kite battles reflect the war of the sexes between men and women. Kites were used in World War II. They were used to distract German planes and for target practice. When Dermer started stunt kiting, it was pretty new. All the kits were triangular, they all looked about the same. But soon, Dermer told Collectors Weekly, that changed. The government bioethics conspiracy I researched is Project MKUltra. This was a secretive CIA program that experimented with mind control, hallucinogenic drugs, and the behavioral engineering of humans from 1953 to 1973. Because the program existed for a couple decades, it encompassed a wide range of experiments, types of patients, and immense secrecy. • 23. The Between Politics And Religion 1. Islam, as we saw early in this course, began with a fusion of religion and politics. How do the various approaches to Islam we ve studied traditionalism as represented by the ulama, Sufism, Islamism, and modernism differ in conceiving of the relationship between the two? Does each necessarily have a vision of an Islamic engagement with politics and, if so, what does it look like? The interaction between politics and religion in the Islamic context is one that descends from the model of the Prophet Muhammad, who served as a transcendental figure and as a community leader at the same time. Inevitably, then, these two aspects of Muhammad s position interacted to some degree. Indeed, this intermingling of the political and the religious is seen in the very framework of Islam as we know it the umma is at once a community defined around a religious identity and a political entity extant through that religious identity. Nevertheless, Islam remains a diverse religion encompassing a number of various ideologies frameworks by which the textual and traditional material of the faith are interpreted and understood. This paper will examine a number of these ideological approaches to Islam namely traditionalism, modernism, Islamism, and Sufism and explain their visions of how Islam should relate with politics. The texts The Revolutions of the Celestial Orbs by Nicolaus Copernicus and Two New Sciences by Galileo demonstrates a powerful illustration of heliocentric hypothesis. In each book, astronomer Nicolas Copernicus and Scientist Galileo Galilei describes their theory and assumption about the motion and shapes of the planets and objects based on their understandings and advocating earlier scientist s thoughts. Nicolas Copernicus describes Sun as the center of the universe, which is spherical in shape and other planets(wanderers), which are also spherical revolve around the sun in a Uniform, Eternal, and Circular motion. Likewise, Galileo defines the motion of massive bodies (planets) are steady and uniform, and distance traveled by these bodies are equivalent at equal intervals of time. However, in Idols of the Mind, Francis Bacon demonstrated that there were flaws in the assumptions made by the scientists because they conducted the practical experiments and theories based on their own understanding. According to his scientific investigations, past scientific thinkers used tests and experiments based on their thoughts, which he thinks corrupts the nature of things as they try to compound their nature with it. It was the oil light telling me that it was time to have an oil change, so instead of driving home I went straight to the toyota dealership because at the time I drove a Toyota Landcruiser. When I got there they handed me a clipboard full of information i needed to fill out. It took me a full ten minutes to complete and even after all that they still handed me more papers to write my signature on, I thought to myself, all that for a simple oil change . After finally completing all the paperwork a man took me to the dealerships waiting room and told me that my oil change should not take long. I was happy to hear that because I wanted to be on my way. I only expected to be there for 25 to 30 minutes, so after 20 minutes I started looking at the door hoping someone would walk in and tell me they finished the oil change. Ten minutes later and still nothing. I was getting very impatient and I was starting to work an appetite. The worst part is they had the food channel on and no remote for me to change the channel with, so i got up and went to go find a vending machine. Near the car displays they had a popcorn machine so i scooped myself a small bag full. The popcorn was super salty and stale and what made it even worse was there was no water to be found. So now i m sitting back in the waiting room hungry and thirsty with a bag of uneaten popcorn, and still no word about my car. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Culture Clash In House Of Sand And Fog By Amy Tan The world has a variety of cultures and religions, and in this generation these different cultures mix. It is not easy for some people to accept these different faiths and morals, however they learn to day by day. In books such as House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III and The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, the authors convey the theme of the clash of cultures. Writing books about different cultures and the struggle of their acceptance, is crucial for modern society because it gives the world a realistic view on what is actually happening. Perhaps the message the authors are trying to send with the theme of culture clash, is that because of all the different cultures, people should learn to accept the variety. One can see this with Jing mei Woo and her mother, Suyuan Woo. At the beginning of the book, Jing mei, or June, wants to be known as an American, not Chinese. Either it is the fact that being Chinese embarrasses her or she does not feel Chinese because she does not know the language, June Woo is stuck in between two of her cultures colliding. It is easy to not feel one s nationality when no one takes the time to teach it. His movies are known to be action packed, full of hand to hand combat, as well as having some comedic moments. The films analyzed in this paper will be Project A (1982), Project A 2(1987), as well as Police Story (1985). All of these take place in Hong Kong and are filled with satirical comedy as well as many martial arts scenes. During the 1980 s, Hong Kong was known for its wealth, and it was recognized for its politics, expensive real estate prices, as well as their entertainment. The first two parts of Project A, give the impression of trying to portray a more serious role. On the other hand, Police Story, has plenty of satirical moments as well as some sarcastic ones. My conclusion to this is because Jackie Chan is trying to make fun of the Hong Kong society at the time. During the 1980 s, crime in Hong Kong was abundant, and because of it, the director of the film tried to ridicule the drug cartel portrayed in the movie. They are played as clumsy, and easily defeated by Jackie Chan s incredible martial arts skills. During the whole movie, the astute policeman, played by Jackie Chan, constantly outsmarts the Hong Kong drug cartel. In other words, the Hong Kong cartel is portrayed as stupid and incompetent. • 42. The Department Of Homeland Security Made Us Safer Has the Department of Homeland Security Made Us Safer? As one of the greatest power houses in the world, the United States has attempted to keep warfare on foreign soil rather than stateside. Doing so was a lot easier when war was fought between two different countries, but nowadays, the main source of conflict around the world comes from small bands of people who reside, not in one country or place, but spread throughout the world. Traditionally military servicemen would wear some type of camouflage utilities and would be carrying their rifles at the ready in case of any contact. Combat has dramatically changed and has made it extremely harder to distinguish enemy from friendly or natural forces. Bombs are created to be worn under cloths, IEDs (or improvised Explosive Devices) are hidden under roadways, and in my opinion, war has become more of a cowardice game hide and seek. This shift in combat strategies has made keeping warfare away from the homeland harder and harder. After the Attacks on the United States on 11 September 2105, the government created the Department of Homeland Security in order to protect our nation from further attacks. The proposal to create the department of Homeland Security was created in the early months of 2002 and officially became an Act of congress later that same year.
