Paragonimus westermani is a parasitic trematode fluke that can infect humans through the consumption of raw or undercooked crabs or crayfish containing the parasite's larval stages. When consumed, the larvae migrate to the lungs where they mature into adult flukes, causing lung disease symptoms like coughing, chest pain, and fatigue. Praziquantel treatment of 25mg/kg given orally three times daily for several days is the recommended treatment. Prevention involves thoroughly cooking crabs and crayfish to kill any potential larvae.
