Comparing The Tempest And Yojiro Takita s Departures
A comparative study of Shakespeare s play, The Tempest and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures
reinforce the concept that an individual s competency to recognise the connotations of foreign
contexts, leaves lasting impacts on their perspectives of the world and those around them. Both
composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces developments
of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. The Tempest sets the discourse of
an abortive revenge drama that focuses on Prospero and his outlook on humanity through the art of
forgiving. Subversively in Departures, Takita manipulates confrontations of humanity through Daigo
to convey his emotional journey of acceptance by focusing on the ... Show more content on

Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day working
with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language where he forces
himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques strongly suggest
distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of which the impacts of
discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s manipulations with camera work
effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the audience, reminding them of their
weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in response. This perspective of weakness
and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of close shots where it captures Daigo washing
himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder. Daigo s sense of affliction fully encompasses the
concept confrontation instigates a process of emotional discovery as inevitable actions for attempts to
accept universal truths of weakness and the inevitability of death. Thus positioning us to view such
conflicts with sympathy as while securing in emotional troubles, consider confrontations to be a vessel
for overriding. Through the exploration of such examples, it can be seen that hostilities with the

Scamming Plan Research Paper
My Scamming Plan Drake had just hired me after I had left ExxonMobil. His dad had lent him enough
money to start a proper company but this was his last chance. He ordered me to find someplace in the
Everglades to drill oil because there was a newspaper saying that the government had bought the
drilling rights for oil. My boss s plan was to find oil in the everglades and then the government would
pay us a lot of money not to pump it. After a few months, I had gotten a six hundred forty acre lease
from someone named Vincent Trapwick Jr. It was known as Section 21 and I had hired some
geologists to see if there was any oil in there. After months of ground testing, I had come to the
conclusion that there was not enough oil in Section 21 to even ... Show more content on

I thought he had attacked Melton too so I wanted to get him back anyways. I went to his dad s house
and I agreed that I was a tax collector because he thought I was one. For some reason, he held my lips
with a plier and his bird attacked me. I tried to run but he kept me hostage for a few minutes. He
finally let me go and I ran and took his son s backpack. I bought another butane torch from one of my
favorite hardware stores. I then put in in his bag and put it near a fire. Then, I said I found the
backpack and reported it to the fire investigators. Even though I had gotten that taken care of, I still
had a few more problems popping up everywhere. A few months later, some of my pipes went missing
so I got very angry. Even worse, Melton had been assaulted again and the flags that marked where the
pipes would be had been rearranged to spell the word SCAT. Drake and I were getting very very
annoyed. We decided to hire someone or get something to track whoever was doing this to us. We
were in luck. We found a dog handler who had a dog named Horace who was a trained manhunter.
Horace sniffed the flags and looked like he was on a trail. He ran away from us and the handler
shouted his name. We reported the bad news to Drake

The Between The East And West Essay
In Western society, specifically the US and Europe, feminists and Neo pagans use Kali as an icon of
anger at a patriarchal society. They see Kali as a force to be reckoned with, an awe inspiring image for
women in a developing country such as India. However, women in India rarely use goddesses as
images of women s rights, despite having a pantheon rich with female deities. Why is this? Do they
revere the image of the goddesses too much to use them in a political stance? Or are they afraid of the
implications in using a Hindu goddess as a feminist icon? The people of India worship Kali in a
similar manner to their other goddesses, despite her frightening appearance: that of a mother and wife
taking care of her family, her worshippers. However, she loses her sweeter caring nature in the West.
The polarization of Kali s image between the East and West is interesting to note. Does this view of
goddesses affect the view of women and their rights in India? How do Hindus feel about the use of
Kali as an icon in the West?
The way Euro Americans see Kali as almost a raging monster might not only be because of her
appearance, but because she is an alien figure from an alien land. Non Hindus are unsure of her
purpose aside from the goddess of destruction. To Western culture, gods either are a single
monotheistic being and thus embody all aspects, or have one primary aspect or multiple aspects that
coincide with each other. A goddess of destruction, that also embodies creation, that is

Cohabitation By Andrew J. Postag81v1 s Article From 2004,...
Over the past few decades, cohabitation has become more recent for couples and families.
Cohabitation is when a couple who is not married is living under the same roof as if they are married.
It does not refer to roommates or family members who live together, at least two people have to be in
a romantic union for it to count as cohabitation. Cohabiting can be for a variety of different reasons. In
the 1990s, around 2.5 million people were cohabiting but as of 2015 about 8.3 million people were
cohabiting. (Cherlin 2004) Pamela Smock (2000) argues that cohabitation has increased tremendously
over the past but it is short lived by couples either breaking the relationship off or proceeding to get
married. Andrew J. Cherlin s article from 2004, The Deinstitutionalization of American Marriage,
argues that marriage is becoming deinstitutionalized while cohabitation is becoming institutionalized.
More couples are starting to realize that they do not need a piece of paper to signify their love or
compassion for one another. If they are happy living together unmarried than they should not need to
get married, which is why cohabiting is becoming more prominent. The first transition, noted by
Ernest Burgess, was from the institutional marriage to the companionate marriage. The second
transition was to the individualized marriage in which the emphasis on personal choice and self
development expanded. (Cherlin pg. 848) According to Cherlin, two transitions within marriage

Dental Hygienist Personal Statement
After taking care of my children and teaching them for more than 12 years as well as earning my GED
in October 2013, I finally had the chance to go to college for the first time in my life at the young age

Bdsm Psychopathology
Ivis Pereira
ENC1102
Professor Ivan Ruiz
July 7, 2015
The practice of BDSM is not a pathology, it is a pathway to pleasure.
The practice of bondage discipline, dominance submission, sadism masochism (BDSM) is heavily
associated with psychopathology. However, BDSM may be thought of as a recreational leisure, rather
than the expression of psychopathological processes. The essential structures of the BDSM experience
are discussed in terms of authentic concept, association with psychopathology, and how sex education
might diffuse stigma and warn of the risks of this life style. Sexuality, in all its forms, is incredibly
variable so much so that we might do better to consider that incredible variability the norm. Our
genes, our environments, our experiences these things are what make us individuals, with slightly
different behaviors, emotions, desires and erotic fingerprints. Like many, many other sexual behaviors,
BDSM is part of a normative sexual experience that feels healthy and enjoyable to many people, says
Herbenick. This is something that is consensual and involves a good deal of communication, which
are both things that are important to any pleasurable experience.
BDSM is a sexual practice characterized by suppression, physical restriction, practicing role playing
games, power exchange, and sometimes even the administration of pain. BDSM is an acronym for
bondage discipline, dominance submission, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Raisin In The Sun Stereotypes
A Raisin in the Sun was written by Lorraine Hansberry. Lorraine was born in Chicago, Illinois where
both of her parents were active in the black community. When young, she had big time social injustice
names like Jesse Owens and Duke Ellington come to her house. Her parents contributed large sums of
money to the NAACP and the Urban League. Lorraine and her family moved to a white neighborhood
in Chicago and was attacked by the neighbors. Although they were attacked, the Hansberry family
stayed until the court ordered them to leave. This case made it to the Supreme Court as Hansberry vs
Lee, ruling restrictive covenants illegal. Lorraine attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
She broke the family tradition of going to a black college. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First time the majority of the cast was African American. The thing that makes this piece so special is
the decade in which she wrote and this play. In the 1950s, it was portrayed as a good time for
economy and blacks where content with their inferior status. This play was a revolutionary work for
this time in the 1950s. Most plays didn t depict what an actual black family goes through on American
Stage. African American roles before this play would be small, comedic roles and ethnic stereotypes.
Hansberry shows a black family in the light of reality where it was comedic, it was real life struggles.
There were issues throughout the play brought up such as poverty, discrimination, and the constitution
of African American racial identity. This play shows the real life tensions between the black and white
societies. Not only is Hansberry talking about blacks in American but she has issues of Africans
anticolonial struggles as well. Another risky topic Hansberry shared in the play was feminism. The
character Beneatha showed that women could have ambitious dreams and goals as well. Women didn t
have to depend on marriage and just become a housewife, they could work hard for themselves. Even
the topic of abortion was addressed even though it was illegal in this error. Hansberry main point of
the play was to focus on dreams. Every main character in the play had their own dream. Materialistic
dreams created problems in the family and happiness. Hansberry focus was to do what s best for your
family and continue to lift each other

Differences Between The Giver Book And Movie
This essay is about comparing the Giver book and movie. The Giver is a story about a boy named
Jonas who was chosen to be the community s next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a community
where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas training, he
realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas
wanted the everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Though the two
were based on the same story, there are three important differences that could ve made them two
separate stories. The three main differences between the book and the movie are Asher and Fiona s

His parents did, and Lily did, and so did all of his group members and friends. But there were a few
exceptions: Jonas himself, and a female Five who he had noticed had the different, lighter eyes, (pg.
20 Lois Lowry). Only those with light eyes would become the next Receiver of Memory, which is
why it was such an important detail. In the Giver movie, it was changed into a birthmark. That
birthmark was shaped like a triangle and in the movie, all Receivers of Memory had them. The third
main difference between The Giver book and the movie was the Chief Elder s role. In the Giver book,
the Chief Elder was not much of an important character, The initial speech at the Ceremony of Twelve
was made by the Chief Elder, the leader of the community who was elected every ten years, (pg. 51
Lois Lowry). However, the Chief Elder played an important role in the Giver movie. In the book, the
Chief spoke in a few chapters during Ceremonies and that was all. The Giver movie s Chief Elder
always watched Jonas closely. She started becoming suspicious of Jonas, and so she would warn Jonas
mother and The Giver. She then found out about Jonas plan to escape. When she did, she ordered
Asher to lose him (The Giver movie). That meant she wanted Asher to kill Jonas. This essay was
about the three main differences between the Giver book and the Giver movie. The first main
difference was talked about in the first body paragraph. That paragraph was about

How Shakespeare Portrays the Character of the King in...
How Shakespeare Portrays the Character of the King in William Shakespeare s Henry V By writing
this play, Shakespeare was hoping to inspire the people of England because at that time there was a
possible threat of war from Spain or Ireland. He was trying to create the feeling of patriotism so
writing about Henry was a good idea because he was the epitome of a brave, courageous king. He was
able to inspire his men to great victories such as the Battle of Agincourt, where the English won
against the odds. Many of the English were tired, fatigued before the battle and they were up against
the best French knights. This play was made into a film during the Second World War to inspire the

He says that Henry controls them like a man controlling his hound. Shakespeare continues this further
by saying that they crouch at his side waiting for his command. Henry knows what his actions will
bring. It suggests that Henry has the power to control the effects of war. At this time the Church was in
some of trouble. Canterbury tells Ely about a bill, which could take land away from the church. Henry
is now a true man of the Church and is likely to support the Church. But even so the cunning Bishop
of Canterbury has a plan that will divert his mind from the bill, and that is Henry s possible claims to
land in France. He says to Ely For I have made an offer to his majesty . If there is a war to get the land
the Church will pay some money for the campaign. Also in the conversation between the bishops, it
brings you up to date with what is currently happening. Henry had spent his youth (known as Prince
Hal) mixing with bad company, filling up his time with riots, banquets, sports and did not behave like
a prince or a possible future king. He was sociable who loved to go to public places, in particular
taverns. Canterbury talks about Henry as if he were a strawberry that grows underneath the nettle . By
this he means that under the influence of his one time friends Henry was behaving like a common
person. But now under eye of the lords he was

Funk Carioca
Funk Carioca and the Utopian Element of Baile Funk Funk Carioca (or favela funk) refers to a type of
dance genre bred in Rio de Janeiro s favelas and expressed authentically in bailes funk, or funk dance
parties. Rooted in Miami bass, funk is a fusion of electronic dance music, heavy Afro Brazilian
drumbeats, raw vocal delivery, and frenzied sampling of American songs ( Bandidos de Cristo 221).
Proibidao is a popular derivative of bailes funk that is centered on favela gangs, drug dealing and the
bleakness associated with the poverty stricken slums of Rio ( Bandidos de Cristo 222). Tati Quebra

The Automobile Industry Of Japan s Manufacturing...
Taichii Ohno (1912 1990) is best known not as a guru but a symbol of Japan s manufacturing
resurgence after World War II (Guide to Management Ideas and Gurus. 2008). Ohno worked in
Toyota, a Japanese car company as a production engineer. At the end of second world war, when
Toyota s productivity was way below that of its competitors, the president of Toyota Motor Company
highlighted that they must catch up with America within three years. Otherwise, the automobile
industry of Japan will not survive. Ohno and his associates then came to America to study about the
manufacturing process and after that invented Just in Time manufacturing management method. The
principle of Just in Time (JIT) is to produce and/or deliver the right quantity of products, of the right
quality, within the right time and at the right place in order to increase productivity, efficiency and to
decrease costs and wastes associated with overproduction. According to International Journal of
Economics, Business and Finance (2013), JIT consists of two main elements which must be integrated
together to function in harmony including human resources, planning based on the elimination of
wastes. The first key to JIT success is human involvement which includes stockholders, owners of the
company, labor organization, suppliers and Government support. JIT creates the idea of involving all
workers at different levels of the organization. This can be achieved by motivation, communication,

The Triumph of the Congress of Vienna Essay
The Congress of Vienna was a series of conferences held in Vienna, from 1814 1815. In which many
European heads of government met to establish long lasting piece, preventing revolution and any other
nations from becoming to powerful, on the European continent after the defeat of Napoleon. Even
though many countries came together to discus an issue, the Congress of Vienna was more successful
than many other peace meetings in history (Beck, 241). The most influential of these representatives
was the foreign minister of Austria, Prince Klemens von Metternich (Beck, 238). An additional great
influential representative was the French foreign minister Prince Charles Maurice de Talleyrand, who

The representatives in the Congress of Vienna wanted to prevent France s aggression by surrounding
France with stronger nations, restore balance of power, so no country would be a threat to others and
restore Europe s royal families to the thrones they head held before Napoleon s coquets (Beck, 239).
In order to make the weak nations around France stronger, the former Austrian Netherlands and Dutch
Republic were united to form the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Group of 39 German states were
loosely joined as the newly create German confederation, dominate by Austria. Leaders of Europe
wanted to weaken France, but also didn t want to leave it powerless. If they did, the French might
rebel to take revenge but if France became weaker and was broken up, another country might become
so strong that it would threaten them all. France remained a major but diminished European powers
(Beck, 239). Nevertheless, not all important decisions were made by the great powers.
Most influential of these representatives in the Congress of Vienna was the foreign minister of Austria,
Prince Klemens von Metternich (Beck, 238). At the Congress of Vienna, which convened after
Napoleon s abdication in 1814, Metternich shone brightly as the coachman of Europe, guiding policies

Improving China s Image Through Advertisement
4.2 Creative advertising to create the image of a strong brand Research Question 2: Can China create
international advertisements that would be conducive to advancing its global image and make use of
soft power? It has been well established by marketers and economists that a successful ad campaign is
able to localize to the target audience and communicate messages in line for the respective society.
Advertisements often sell more of a concept of an ideal goal that concept can vary slightly or
dramatically from country to country, but its importance is undeniable. For example, the company,
Kentucky Fried Chicken, owned by Yums Food Crops previously dominated in China, where the fast
food market is now worth $174 billion, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chinese companies must also find a means to balance marketing capacity and maintaining its unique
identity and simultaneously encoding the message in such a fashion that it should be easily decoded
by target audiences. An example of this would be exercises programs such as Birkam Yoga; a hot yoga
program was created by Bikram Choudhury. Yoga traditionally originates from India, but has managed
to seep its way into the crevasses of societies around the world from the United States to South Korea.
Most Yoga advertisements focus on the increased health benefits of the exercise, which is a matter of
prime importance in many nations regardless of cultural customs, because of clever marketing focused
on a matter of international interest, Yoga programs have managed to sell while keeping a unique
identity. China is a nation with a dynamic and rich history over 5,000 years worth in fact.
This works to both China s advantage and disadvantage. It has been noted that the most profitable
films China related tend to be kung fu films, while such films are not a holistic representation of the
nation from past to present, it does provide precedence for ways to integrate a traditional culture with
international societies. Directors such as Zhang Yimou and kung fu celebrities such as Jackie Chan
and Jet Lee are as much a part of China s cinematographic history as the worlds. Films such as Ang
Lee s Crouching Tiger, Hidden

How Bill Has Breached The Duty
With this, the existence of a duty of care has been proven and is now time to see if it has been
breached. It is up to Arthur to show Bill has breached the duty . To do so he will need to prove a
reasonable man would have not acted in the same way. The test is objective in a sense that Bill s skill
would not be considered in favour of those of a man who is presumed to be free both from over
apprehension and from over confidence . Bill ignored a warning saying no HGVs should be crossing
the bridge, it can be argued that no reasonable person would do this.
Moreover, seeing as Bill is a professional, the case of Maynard could be used to further support Arthur
s claim. In this case, it was held that it should also be shown no professional would agree with the
conduct of the defendant. In other words, would another policeman agree on letting an HGV pass in
such weather? The answer to this would arguably be no.
Having proven there is a duty of care and it has been breached, the next step would be to show the
breach was what caused damages. Causation has 2 main elements legal and factual. In order to
establish legal causation, one must use the but for test. In our case, the test would look something like,
But for Bill s negligence, would Arthur s accident have occurred. This test only questions the facts of
the case and is relatively straight forward. Thus, ignoring everything else, no, Arthur would not have

Alice Neel And Schiele Analysis
Alice Neel and Egon Schiele were some of the most daring artists of their time. Neel was especially
known for her uncaring attitude of what was in at the time, while Egon Schiele was similarly known to
paint some of the most bold nude figures of his time. Both painted what they wanted, not a thought
towards what was socially acceptable. They both focused on painting people around them, or in Neel s
case, random people on the street, and Schiele was often compared to Picasso in his obsession with
self portraits. Either way, while Alice Neel and Egon Schiele were from opposite sides of the planet,
they shared a remarkably similar style of painting and rendering of the subjects in those paintings.

In Andy Warhol we see a sense of shame, but also acceptance and contentment by the light clasp of his
hands, and the slight straining of his shoulders. His eyes are closed, which could either be out of fear
of being seen, or a sense of peace at finally being seen. His lips are delicately pursed, which, again,
shows that he could either be fighting the urge to cower and hide, or his own frustration with this
desire, and his determination to continue. In addition to these many subtle expressions of emotion, we
know that the actual man was known for his cool and confident attitude, which tells us just how much
of a big deal his utter vulnerability truly is. Neel has stripped all outside masks, and has unearthed the
frightened, old man beneath Warhol s suave persona. Conversely, we see nothing but aloofness and an
impassioned gaze within Schiele s Self Portrait with Chinese Lantern. Schiele has drawn himself
looking at the viewer with his chin held up and his shoulders tilted back, an aura of complete
confidence and self importance all but oozing out of him. His face seems to ask, Is that all that you ve

The Mende Man Pieces Together The Story Of Jesus Christ
Faith plays an important role in the Mende s road to freedom. When the word faith comes to mind, it
is one that concerns a belief in some power and requires perseverance in that belief. The Mende
people certainly showed faith in more ways than one, but an example that is true to the definition
mentioned before is one where Cinque and one of his fellow Mende look over the Bible. After
examining the pictures, the Mende man pieces together the story of Jesus Christ despite knowing very
little English. He shows the story to Cinque, and both men see how Jesus had unrightfully died, yet in
death he had arrived in a place more beautiful than the world on which he lived. As a response, Cinque
and his friend mustered up the faith to propel them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With faith and hope, they entrusted all communications to Cinque and had faith that he would speak
for the best of all the Mende. This faith in Cinque as well as a faith in a better life after the trials
brought unity amongst the Mende people. From then on, they become more than just a tribe. Through
faith, they had grown close enough to consider one another family.
Consequently, family is another prevalent theme in La Amistad. Since the opening scene, the Mende
people considered themselves as one tribe, one people, and one family. This was shown when Cinque
bloodily unlocks his hand and ankle bindings in the bottom of the Amistad, but he does not stop there.
With bloody hands and fatigue overcoming him, he draws out extra strength to free his family around
him. In doing so, the Mende stay as one unit and work together to complete a successful insurrection
against the ship s crew, so that they can reunite with their beloved family members back in Africa.
However, rather than standing still and keeping quiet, they bring their home in Africa to America.
They bring the traditions that run in the Mende family and stay faithful in performing those traditions.
For example, when one Mende died in the prison, they attempted to hold a customary ritual to show
due respect and allow eternal peace for the soul of their recently passed family member. Although the
whites opposed them from doing so, the Mende people were fervent about their African duties and
respects towards

The four main categories of evidence for evolution in accordance to the BAT tutorials are: fossil
records, chemical and anatomical similarities, geographic distribution of related species, and genetic
changes over generations. Fossil records allow researchers to examine evolution through past species.
One example is the Archaeopteryx, a million year old fossil found in southern Germany that had
characteristics of both dinosaurs and birds. This fossil finding resulted as the discovery that birds had
evolved from reptilian ancestors. Also, the similarities between body structures in vertebrates make for
a distinct link leading to the conclusion that they must share a common ancestor or a similarity in how
they came to be. Additionally, the geographic location of certain species determines their evolution
patterns. In certain areas of the world, there are animals that are native to that land and cannot be
found anywhere else in the world. Lastly, a species genetic alter over time in order to survive. In the
case of a drastic environmental change that results in death, those that survive do so because they
possess traits that allow them to survive. These are the only ones that will be likely to reproduce.
Selective breeding in dogs is an example genetic changes over evolution. In these cases, dog breeders
mate different breeds of dogs together in order to achieve the desired traits they want in a new breed
of dog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ideological Concept Of Insanity Defense
The ideological concept of an insanity defense, formerly termed complete madness, was originally
incorporated into the English common law jurisprudence system in the late thirteenth century of the
United Kingdom as an affirmative defense for defendants under the yoke of criminal charges
involving a heinous action which could involve the option of termination of a defendant s life if
adjudge guilty of such act (Hill). Through such incorporation of a legal defense, the institution of a
new societal grouping known commonly as the criminally insane became expounded, as well as, the
legal opportunity allowing for self declaration of being innocent by reason of mental illness or defect
(or, the insanity defense). Those criminally insane are a subset of the prison population who have been
deemed to have committed their crimes under the influence of a mental disease/disorder, or who were
not in a condition of intellect during the time of the crime to comprehend the illegality or immorality
of their offense (Frontline). Only if the defendant has plead insanity before the court can they be
considered a truly criminally insane inmate. There are manifold condemnations sustained by the
judicial system ranging from guilty but insane to not guilty by reason of insanity, as well as the legal
states of incompetency and diminished capacity. This distinction has become a substance of federal
law, but as soon as a defendant is convicted, the treatment of the convicted individual is left

Explain Why My Religion Does Not Control Me
My religion does not control me. The authors E.L. Doctorow, Rushdie, and Paul who wrote in part of
Corinthian all have written that debate against one another. Doctorow is an American author is well
known for historical writing and wrote about how America is not full of infidels. Rushdie is an atheist
who had a bounty on his head from the Islamic state for years; he is known for his writing against
religion. Paul wrote the first epistle of Corinthian, which was directed towards the, the church of God,
in Corinth, Greece; he wrote about how love has do with the individual not God. These authors
contradict each other s claim: Doctorow disproves Rushdie s claim with religion causes freedom to

Doctorow claims the people of the United States want religion because it is an escape from society s
issues. In addition, the word infidels means one who doubts or rejects central trends of one s religion,
but this word is used more towards Christianity and Islam. However, the United States is made of
many different religions that people look over, such as: The Shakers, Swendenborgians, and
Adventists. Due to the religious freedom in America the nation is filled with a variety of praying,
singing and studying that are practiced by millions. Because of these varieties, many religions
developed in the U.S such as: Mormonism, Christian Science and Native American
Anthropomorphism. It s not about the United States being full of infidels it s about how the United
States decided to keep religion and politics separate. A lot of what Doctorow mentions goes against
what Rushdie ideas of religion are. Rushdie mentions in a sarcastic way that victors of war can t be
close minded because they have God on their side. Basically, saying that those who believe in God
tend to be close minded. In addition, Rushdie things freedom is restricted by religious rule. Doctorow
argues that a country that has freedom of religion gives people the freedom to believe and not believe
in anything they want; without the pressure of religious control. On the other hand, having freedom of
religion in a country allows people to have an open mind by accepting

How do different poets explore the themes of childhood and growing up? Explore three poems in
detail and refer to at least three others.
In the poem of Half past Two bye U.A Fanthrope, she explores the themes of childhood and its
experience by using short, free flowing structures, simple sentences, languages and most importantly
time. This suggests that adults and children have different opinions on whatever they do. The poem is
structured in free verse to present poem in an unusual way, showing that the boy is still learning the
rules of the school and time. The ideas are expressed freely since free verse conveys sense of natural

Vernon Scannell was enlisted in the army when he was 18, and was involved in the famous battle of
Normandy Landing. Although he hated his life as a soldier, he continued to write poems about it and
that experience affected the way he wrote this poem Hide and Seek . This poem is written in single
stanza with free verse and no rhythm so he can choose which vocabularies, techniques to use for
maximum effects. Hide and Seek tries to show the boy s breathless attempt to win the game. From
this, we can see that children are very aggressive and enthusiastic when it comes to things that they
enjoy doing.
The languages used in this poem illustrates very tense and emotional atmosphere and therefore single
stanza is appropriate. Unbroken sentences build tension and as they boy waits for this friends to find
him, a breathless moment is presented. Tone is very crucial in this poem as it shifts from excitement
and feeling of triumphant as to strong disappointment and

Creating A New Shared Vision
In the world of education, many educators work together, not only for the benefit of student
achievement, but to develop and spread new ideas to each other. When one speaks of collaboration in
education, it simply means being in agreement. Collaboration is important and must be taken seriously
by both cooperating parties because they are working together to create a new shared vision. While
collaborating communication plays a major role because both parties must share in agreement of
certain classroom issues, behavioral strategies, and instructional methods that will be going forth.
Collaboration can be done with other certified teachers in the school, or it can be done with para
educators. Whomever it is done with, both teachers serve a great purpose in the classroom and they
both can be of benefit the students. With two teachers in the classroom there is more classroom
management, and students can receive small group instruction which creates a more intimate learning
environment. In this scenario, Mrs. Smith, an inclusion teacher, but has never worked with a para
educator before. However, the assigned para educator has never worked with an another teacher and
the goal is to ultimately have the two in agreement. Nevertheless, based off the scenario, the two have
the same philosophies, but takes more than those things be effective in collaboration. They both
should meet and determine how they shall go forth in the classroom. First, Mrs. Smith, and the para

The biggest trial and misfortune for Ernst Von Bergmann came with the death of Crown Prince and
Kaiser, Frederick. Crwon Prince and Kaiser suffered from hoarseness which means having a vocal
tone characterized by weakness of intensity and excessive breathiness, the hoarse voice of the
auctioneer . It began when The Crown Prince was diagnosed by another Doctor, named Gerhardt.
Gerhardt saw that the Prince had an irregular projection of the left vocal cord and diagnosed him with
Polypoid (nonmalignant growth or tumor protruding from the mucous lining of an organ such as the
nose, bladder, or intestine, often causing obstruction) which continued to grow. A few months later, on
May of 1887, The Prince was diagnosed with Epithelioma (benign or malignant tumor derived from
epithelial cells. Bergmann came to see the Prince and recommend laryngofissure and also removal of
the affected cord, and possibly part of the thyroid cartilage if it was affected. Since a well known
Doctor name Hahn in Berlin had successfully operated for the same disease.
A couple of days later, another Doctor confirmed the diagnosys of Bergmann, a Doctor name Tobold.
They brought it to the Crown Prince and the Prince also agreed with to have the surgery performed.

When I am appointed as a consultant by the Government to research and suggest improvements for
the organization, I would put forward the following points that are mandatory to be changed and as
mentioned in the question, I shall find and suggest measures to improve the company policy and rules
as it is being criticized for Taylorism , which in it s own way has pros and cons.
Taylorism, which is actually a method adopted and named after the US Industrial Engineer Frederick
Winslow Taylor, who in his 1911 book Principles Of Scientific Management laid down the
fundamental principles of large scale manufacturing through assembly line factories.
Introduced in the early 20th century, Taylorism basically :
(1) has the aim to achieve the best and great result on the job fragmentation upfront by basically to
minimizing the skill requirements and grasping time, (2) it also splits execution of work from the
actual work plan. (3) the it splits direct labor from indirect labor.
(4) it replaces rule of thumb productivity estimating the right/correct/precise measurements,
(5) also, it introduces time and motion study for optimum job performance, cost accounting, tool and
work station design, and
(6) finally it makes it possible to achieve the payment by result method of wage determination.

such as scarcity, product demand and economic conditions within the country, all out of the direct
control of management.

The Element Of Moral Philosophy By James Rachels
In the book, The Element of Moral Philosophy , James Rachels explores the several criticisms of
Utilitarianism. In this essay, I will touch on these criticisms, outlining the major implications they
propose to Utilitarianism. I will also explain why many of the notions proposed against Utilitarianism
are self serving, and instead serve to improve the general good of a minority population, which
contradicts the Utilitarian theory of equating moral aptitude to the general good of a majority
population, and that in this respect a greater consequence is achieved. Lastly, I will demonstrate how
many societal values have a Utilitarian basis, which proves that Utilitarianism can be salvaged in the
face of most criticisms.
In substance, the nature of Utilitarianism is derived of consequence. Utilitarianism proposes that the
outcome of an act should suggest whether or not said act is morally correct. Many philosophers
disagree, and believe that the consequence of an act does little to implicate morality. For example,
there are numerous crimes committed daily. Some of these crimes remain undiscovered and therefore
result in zero negative consequence. The text specifically outlines a particular situation wherein a
peeping Tom spies on a woman without her ever finding out. If the woman never finds out, then she
has no reason to be upset, and in contrast the peeping Tom will be evidently pleased. This results in a
positive outcome, or positive consequence, and therefore would

Collaborative Group Experience
Introduction Groups and teamwork are an essential aspect of everyday life. It is suggested that groups
have the potential to outperform individuals (Mottola Utkus, 2009). There are several facets that
impact teamwork, including communication, and cooperation. Conflicts and challenges are also
important aspects that can occur in teamwork. It is imperative to understand effective models, and
actions that can be taken to establish successful work. Experiential learning will be used to analyze a
group experience that the author found to be meaningful. Additionally, team dynamic concepts and
theories will aid in analyzing the experience.

The various challenges and conflicts impacted all the members of the group, and resulted in a subpar
presentation. As the presentation was a significant portion of our final grade, it was imperative for the
author as well as several other members to take initiative and salvage the presentation before it was a
complete disaster. The author behaved in this manner to ensure the requirements of the assignment
were met, and the presentation was delivered in order to avoid failure for the assignment. The other
members of the group that also took initiative to complete the assignment were motivated to achieve
these goals as well. The individuals that lacked participation were fueled by conflict and determined to
create a negative experience because of refusal for agreement. The individuals removed themselves
from the group and choose to work on aspects of the presentation alone. This impacted the group
negatively because there was lack of communication, and opinions from everyone involved. Joan
Bunashe and Lindsay Broder suggest that conflict isolates individuals and can have an impact on
creativity and productivity (Bunashe Broder, 2015). The actions of the individuals who refused to
participate in the group obstructed the presentation flow, and resulted in a negative experience for

Lily s Choice in The House of Mirth Essays
Lily s Choice in The House of Mirth
Near the beginning of The House of Mirth, Wharton establishes that Lily would not indeed have cared
to marry a man who was merely rich: she was secretly ashamed of her mothers crude passion for
money (38). Lily, like the affluent world she loves, has a strange relationship with money. She needs
money to buy the type of life she has been raised to live, and her relative poverty makes her situation
precarious. Unfortunately, Lily has not been trained to obtain money through a wide variety of
methods. Wharton s wealthy socialites do not all procure money in the same way: money can be
inherited, earned working in a hat shop, won at cards, traded scandalously between married men and

Lily Bart has to die because she is completely incapable of adapting to this world of direct
transactions, and in the end the only two paths she sees both lie firmly in that realm.
First, a distinction must be made between direct and indirect transaction. Lily can happily live in a
world where wealth circulates obliquely and freely. When Lily stays as a guest at Bellomont eating
fine food at her hosts expense, she is not receiving payment for goods or services. Instead, her charm
has earned her the benefits of friendship with the rich. Lily is not exactly being paid to be charming;
instead, being charming attracts the generous hospitality and entertainment of wealthy friends. The
distinction between this type of benefit and direct compensation is enormous. When the reader
encounters Lily in Chapter Ten of Book Two, Lily has fled from the world of Norma Hatch to the
milliners shop and it was an offer of direct reward that made it necessary for Lily to escape. Wharton
writes, The sense of being involved in a transaction she would not have cared to examine too closely
had soon afterward defined itself in the light of a hint from Mr. Stancy that if she saw them through,
she would have no reason to be sorry (293 3). Lily has no qualms about living as a guest of her rich
friends, but the idea of selling her charm and becoming a sort of social mercenary holds no appeal for
her: The implication that such loyalty would meet with a direct

Damn Dams In The United States
Damn Dams The United States has led the world in dam building for the past 100 years. The dams are
used for a variety of purposes, including hydropower, irrigation, flood control, and water storage.
Even though dams can be a benefit to society, they can also cause a lot for harm to the rivers. Dams
degraded river ecosystems, depleted fisheries, and diminished the recreational use of nearly all of the
nation s rivers. Many of the dams are unsafe, old or no longer serve their intended purposes.
Reduce River Levels Dams by nature are used to divert water from going down river freely. This

Andy Warhol s Influence On Our Culture
Have you ever wondered how pop art has influenced our culture? Well this paper will spread light on
just how influential Andy Warhol and his artwork has been. Pop art emerged in the late 1950s in the
United States (Artspace editors 2013). It was something that engaged aspects of mass culture such as
advertising, comic books, and clothing. Andy Warhol was the father of pop art; he has not only
influenced what we wear and see, but he has influenced the art world as well. There are many forms of
pop art but one thing they all have in common is the interest in mass media, and mass culture
(McCorquodale, 2015). Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. When
he was at the age of 8 he contracted chorea (Brown, 2015). A Disease that causes involuntary,
unpredictable body movements, so Warhol was confined to bed. During his recovery he was taught to
draw by his mother (Brown, 2015). He developed a love for drawing, and he started to draw in his
spare time. As soon as he got healthy he decided to take up photography. He went on to graduate high
school and enroll in Carnegie Institute of Technology where he studied commercial art (Brown, 2015).

Does A Person s Socioeconomic Background Influence...
Does a Person s Socioeconomic Background Influence Altruistic Behavior? During the Middle Ages,
the majority of peasants in Feudal Europe were loyal and submissive to their nobles, motivated by the
values taught in their strong Catholic belief system. According to Chapter XVI: The Life of the
Peasants , the successes of many nobles and knights were due to the faithfulness of their peasants,
whom they had oppressed and wronged (Davis 46). Modern day altruism is also influenced by
socioeconomic status and religion, similar to how the religious members of the third estates supported
the upper social echelons.
Today, individuals in the top 20% of the United States population own more than 84% of the nation s
wealth, while the bottom 40% own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Judith Warner, a New York Times journalist who specializes in psychology, the
charitable giving deficit is due to the lack of empathy towards the hardships of the poor among their
rich counterparts (Warner 2). In light of this, it is important to determine how socioeconomic
background influences donation patterns in order to bridge the charitable giving gap. Altruistic
behaviors in their quintessential form are selflessly motivated prosocial actions; they influence
virtually all human interactions. In America, altruism is ostensibly embodied in the giving patterns of
wealthy philanthropists who have a history of creating endowments and donating assets to higher
education and other charitable programs. However, in reality, the lower and middle classes account for
most of the charitable giving in America. Furthermore, altruism is identified with prosocial behavior,
or actions that benefit society as a whole, in sociological interactions. Individuals who come from
lower socioeconomic backgrounds are more altruistic because their increased empathy for human
welfare and intrinsic self transcendent value systems motivate them to give more readily.
Sociological
In sociology, altruism characterizes virtually all human interactions. Whether it be marginal acts of
kindness or donations to local charities, altruism allows for society to function by helping those in
need. Individuals from lower social echelons endure

South Shore. This village is 35 miles from New York and one expressway exit from Jones Beach. The
name Merrick is taken from Meroke, the name (meaning peaceful) of the Algonquian tribe . The first
people that lived here are the Merokee Indians that farmed and fished in the area. In 1650, a Reverend
Denton moved his congregation to the area from Stamford, Conn., and founded the Town of Merrick.
They were drawn by the fertile soil and the Meadow Brook then a wide rushing stream, now a small

came home and everything was perfectly fine. The lecture that followed after it is another story.
Another characteristic of Merrick is the fact that a large majority of its residents choose to grow their
families in a town where they spent their childhood. The surroundings are beautiful. Well kept
properties, a willow bordered pond where duck feeding is allowed, tennis courts and baseball fields
run by the Town of Hempstead are nearby, as are a swimming pool and indoor ice rink run by Nassau
County. There are four synagogues in town two Conservative, one Reform and one Orthodox and
seven churches two Catholic, one Episcopal, one Baptist, one Methodist, one Presbyterian and a

decided to buy a house. We were living in Queens at that time. Finding the perfect neighborhood was

  • 2. Comparing The Tempest And Yojiro Takita s Departures A comparative study of Shakespeare s play, The Tempest and Yojiro Takita s film, Departures reinforce the concept that an individual s competency to recognise the connotations of foreign contexts, leaves lasting impacts on their perspectives of the world and those around them. Both composers incorporate the vital idea that characters confrontation with morality induces developments of change and subsequently reflect integral actions of compassion. The Tempest sets the discourse of an abortive revenge drama that focuses on Prospero and his outlook on humanity through the art of forgiving. Subversively in Departures, Takita manipulates confrontations of humanity through Daigo to convey his emotional journey of acceptance by focusing on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Takita emphasises the flaws of the human condition through Daigo as he starts his first day working with a rotting corpse. Medium shots are employed to highlight Daigo s body language where he forces himself to close his eyes and tries to stray away from the body. Such techniques strongly suggest distaste and disturbance as systematic responses whilst illustrating the extent of which the impacts of discovery can be provocative in confronting world values. Takita s manipulations with camera work effectively triggers automatic disfigured expressions in the audience, reminding them of their weaknesses whilst encouraging consideration for actions in response. This perspective of weakness and violation is further emphasised with the utilising of close shots where it captures Daigo washing himself like someone who has a cleaning disorder. Daigo s sense of affliction fully encompasses the concept confrontation instigates a process of emotional discovery as inevitable actions for attempts to accept universal truths of weakness and the inevitability of death. Thus positioning us to view such conflicts with sympathy as while securing in emotional troubles, consider confrontations to be a vessel for overriding. Through the exploration of such examples, it can be seen that hostilities with the unexpected result in emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He ordered me to find someplace in the Everglades to drill oil because there was a newspaper saying that the government had bought the drilling rights for oil. My boss s plan was to find oil in the everglades and then the government would pay us a lot of money not to pump it. After a few months, I had gotten a six hundred forty acre lease from someone named Vincent Trapwick Jr. It was known as Section 21 and I had hired some geologists to see if there was any oil in there. After months of ground testing, I had come to the conclusion that there was not enough oil in Section 21 to even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought he had attacked Melton too so I wanted to get him back anyways. I went to his dad s house and I agreed that I was a tax collector because he thought I was one. For some reason, he held my lips with a plier and his bird attacked me. I tried to run but he kept me hostage for a few minutes. He finally let me go and I ran and took his son s backpack. I bought another butane torch from one of my favorite hardware stores. I then put in in his bag and put it near a fire. Then, I said I found the backpack and reported it to the fire investigators. Even though I had gotten that taken care of, I still had a few more problems popping up everywhere. A few months later, some of my pipes went missing so I got very angry. Even worse, Melton had been assaulted again and the flags that marked where the pipes would be had been rearranged to spell the word SCAT. Drake and I were getting very very annoyed. We decided to hire someone or get something to track whoever was doing this to us. We were in luck. We found a dog handler who had a dog named Horace who was a trained manhunter. Horace sniffed the flags and looked like he was on a trail. He ran away from us and the handler shouted his name. We reported the bad news to Drake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Between The East And West Essay In Western society, specifically the US and Europe, feminists and Neo pagans use Kali as an icon of anger at a patriarchal society. They see Kali as a force to be reckoned with, an awe inspiring image for women in a developing country such as India. However, women in India rarely use goddesses as images of women s rights, despite having a pantheon rich with female deities. Why is this? Do they revere the image of the goddesses too much to use them in a political stance? Or are they afraid of the implications in using a Hindu goddess as a feminist icon? The people of India worship Kali in a similar manner to their other goddesses, despite her frightening appearance: that of a mother and wife taking care of her family, her worshippers. However, she loses her sweeter caring nature in the West. The polarization of Kali s image between the East and West is interesting to note. Does this view of goddesses affect the view of women and their rights in India? How do Hindus feel about the use of Kali as an icon in the West? The way Euro Americans see Kali as almost a raging monster might not only be because of her appearance, but because she is an alien figure from an alien land. Non Hindus are unsure of her purpose aside from the goddess of destruction. To Western culture, gods either are a single monotheistic being and thus embody all aspects, or have one primary aspect or multiple aspects that coincide with each other. A goddess of destruction, that also embodies creation, that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cohabitation By Andrew J. Postag81v1 s Article From 2004,... Over the past few decades, cohabitation has become more recent for couples and families. Cohabitation is when a couple who is not married is living under the same roof as if they are married. It does not refer to roommates or family members who live together, at least two people have to be in a romantic union for it to count as cohabitation. Cohabiting can be for a variety of different reasons. In the 1990s, around 2.5 million people were cohabiting but as of 2015 about 8.3 million people were cohabiting. (Cherlin 2004) Pamela Smock (2000) argues that cohabitation has increased tremendously over the past but it is short lived by couples either breaking the relationship off or proceeding to get married. Andrew J. Cherlin s article from 2004, The Deinstitutionalization of American Marriage, argues that marriage is becoming deinstitutionalized while cohabitation is becoming institutionalized. More couples are starting to realize that they do not need a piece of paper to signify their love or compassion for one another. If they are happy living together unmarried than they should not need to get married, which is why cohabiting is becoming more prominent. The first transition, noted by Ernest Burgess, was from the institutional marriage to the companionate marriage. The second transition was to the individualized marriage in which the emphasis on personal choice and self development expanded. (Cherlin pg. 848) According to Cherlin, two transitions within marriage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The practice of bondage discipline, dominance submission, sadism masochism (BDSM) is heavily associated with psychopathology. However, BDSM may be thought of as a recreational leisure, rather than the expression of psychopathological processes. The essential structures of the BDSM experience are discussed in terms of authentic concept, association with psychopathology, and how sex education might diffuse stigma and warn of the risks of this life style. Sexuality, in all its forms, is incredibly variable so much so that we might do better to consider that incredible variability the norm. Our genes, our environments, our experiences these things are what make us individuals, with slightly different behaviors, emotions, desires and erotic fingerprints. Like many, many other sexual behaviors, BDSM is part of a normative sexual experience that feels healthy and enjoyable to many people, says Herbenick. This is something that is consensual and involves a good deal of communication, which are both things that are important to any pleasurable experience. This play shows the real life tensions between the black and white societies. Not only is Hansberry talking about blacks in American but she has issues of Africans anticolonial struggles as well. Another risky topic Hansberry shared in the play was feminism. The character Beneatha showed that women could have ambitious dreams and goals as well. Women didn t have to depend on marriage and just become a housewife, they could work hard for themselves. Even the topic of abortion was addressed even though it was illegal in this error. During Jonas training, he realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas wanted the everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Only those with light eyes would become the next Receiver of Memory, which is why it was such an important detail. In the Giver movie, it was changed into a birthmark. That birthmark was shaped like a triangle and in the movie, all Receivers of Memory had them. The third main difference between The Giver book and the movie was the Chief Elder s role. In the Giver book, the Chief Elder was not much of an important character, The initial speech at the Ceremony of Twelve was made by the Chief Elder, the leader of the community who was elected every ten years, (pg. 51 Lois Lowry). However, the Chief Elder played an important role in the Giver movie. In the book, the Chief spoke in a few chapters during Ceremonies and that was all. The Giver movie s Chief Elder always watched Jonas closely. She started becoming suspicious of Jonas, and so she would warn Jonas mother and The Giver. She then found out about Jonas plan to escape. How Shakespeare Portrays the Character of the King in William Shakespeare s Henry V By writing this play, Shakespeare was hoping to inspire the people of England because at that time there was a possible threat of war from Spain or Ireland. He was trying to create the feeling of patriotism so writing about Henry was a good idea because he was the epitome of a brave, courageous king. He was able to inspire his men to great victories such as the Battle of Agincourt, where the English won against the odds. Henry is now a true man of the Church and is likely to support the Church. Taichii Ohno (1912 1990) is best known not as a guru but a symbol of Japan s manufacturing resurgence after World War II (Guide to Management Ideas and Gurus. 2008). Ohno worked in Toyota, a Japanese car company as a production engineer. At the end of second world war, when Toyota s productivity was way below that of its competitors, the president of Toyota Motor Company highlighted that they must catch up with America within three years. Otherwise, the automobile industry of Japan will not survive. Ohno and his associates then came to America to study about the manufacturing process and after that invented Just in Time manufacturing management method. The principle of Just in Time (JIT) is to produce and/or deliver the right quantity of products, of the right quality, within the right time and at the right place in order to increase productivity, efficiency and to decrease costs and wastes associated with overproduction. Advertisements often sell more of a concept of an ideal goal that concept can vary slightly or dramatically from country to country, but its importance is undeniable. • 16. How Bill Has Breached The Duty With this, the existence of a duty of care has been proven and is now time to see if it has been breached. It is up to Arthur to show Bill has breached the duty . To do so he will need to prove a reasonable man would have not acted in the same way. The test is objective in a sense that Bill s skill would not be considered in favour of those of a man who is presumed to be free both from over apprehension and from over confidence . Bill ignored a warning saying no HGVs should be crossing the bridge, it can be argued that no reasonable person would do this. Moreover, seeing as Bill is a professional, the case of Maynard could be used to further support Arthur s claim. In this case, it was held that it should also be shown no professional would agree with the conduct of the defendant. In other words, would another policeman agree on letting an HGV pass in such weather? The answer to this would arguably be no. Having proven there is a duty of care and it has been breached, the next step would be to show the breach was what caused damages. Causation has 2 main elements legal and factual. In order to establish legal causation, one must use the but for test. In our case, the test would look something like, But for Bill s negligence, would Arthur s accident have occurred. This test only questions the facts of the case and is relatively straight forward. Thus, ignoring everything else, no, Arthur would not have been in an accident if he had not been on the bridge, which Bill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neel was especially known for her uncaring attitude of what was in at the time, while Egon Schiele was similarly known to paint some of the most bold nude figures of his time. Both painted what they wanted, not a thought towards what was socially acceptable. They both focused on painting people around them, or in Neel s case, random people on the street, and Schiele was often compared to Picasso in his obsession with self portraits. Either way, while Alice Neel and Egon Schiele were from opposite sides of the planet, they shared a remarkably similar style of painting and rendering of the subjects in those paintings. In Andy Warhol we see a sense of shame, but also acceptance and contentment by the light clasp of his hands, and the slight straining of his shoulders. His eyes are closed, which could either be out of fear of being seen, or a sense of peace at finally being seen. His lips are delicately pursed, which, again, shows that he could either be fighting the urge to cower and hide, or his own frustration with this desire, and his determination to continue. In addition to these many subtle expressions of emotion, we know that the actual man was known for his cool and confident attitude, which tells us just how much of a big deal his utter vulnerability truly is. Neel has stripped all outside masks, and has unearthed the frightened, old man beneath Warhol s suave persona. Conversely, we see nothing but aloofness and an impassioned gaze within Schiele s Self Portrait with Chinese Lantern. Schiele has drawn himself looking at the viewer with his chin held up and his shoulders tilted back, an aura of complete confidence and self importance all but oozing out of him. When the word faith comes to mind, it is one that concerns a belief in some power and requires perseverance in that belief. The Mende people certainly showed faith in more ways than one, but an example that is true to the definition mentioned before is one where Cinque and one of his fellow Mende look over the Bible. After examining the pictures, the Mende man pieces together the story of Jesus Christ despite knowing very little English. Through faith, they had grown close enough to consider one another family. Consequently, family is another prevalent theme in La Amistad. Since the opening scene, the Mende people considered themselves as one tribe, one people, and one family. This was shown when Cinque bloodily unlocks his hand and ankle bindings in the bottom of the Amistad, but he does not stop there. With bloody hands and fatigue overcoming him, he draws out extra strength to free his family around him. In doing so, the Mende stay as one unit and work together to complete a successful insurrection against the ship s crew, so that they can reunite with their beloved family members back in Africa. However, rather than standing still and keeping quiet, they bring their home in Africa to America. They bring the traditions that run in the Mende family and stay faithful in performing those traditions. • 19. What Are The Four Main Categories Of Evidence Of Evolution The four main categories of evidence for evolution in accordance to the BAT tutorials are: fossil records, chemical and anatomical similarities, geographic distribution of related species, and genetic changes over generations. Fossil records allow researchers to examine evolution through past species. One example is the Archaeopteryx, a million year old fossil found in southern Germany that had characteristics of both dinosaurs and birds. This fossil finding resulted as the discovery that birds had evolved from reptilian ancestors. Also, the similarities between body structures in vertebrates make for a distinct link leading to the conclusion that they must share a common ancestor or a similarity in how they came to be. Additionally, the geographic location of certain species determines their evolution patterns. In certain areas of the world, there are animals that are native to that land and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Lastly, a species genetic alter over time in order to survive. In the case of a drastic environmental change that results in death, those that survive do so because they possess traits that allow them to survive. These are the only ones that will be likely to reproduce. Selective breeding in dogs is an example genetic changes over evolution. The Ideological Concept Of Insanity Defense The ideological concept of an insanity defense, formerly termed complete madness, was originally incorporated into the English common law jurisprudence system in the late thirteenth century of the United Kingdom as an affirmative defense for defendants under the yoke of criminal charges involving a heinous action which could involve the option of termination of a defendant s life if adjudge guilty of such act (Hill). Through such incorporation of a legal defense, the institution of a new societal grouping known commonly as the criminally insane became expounded, as well as, the legal opportunity allowing for self declaration of being innocent by reason of mental illness or defect (or, the insanity defense). Those criminally insane are a subset of the prison population who have been deemed to have committed their crimes under the influence of a mental disease/disorder, or who were not in a condition of intellect during the time of the crime to comprehend the illegality or immorality of their offense (Frontline). Only if the defendant has plead insanity before the court can they be considered a truly criminally insane inmate. There are manifold condemnations sustained by the judicial system ranging from guilty but insane to not guilty by reason of insanity, as well as the legal states of incompetency and diminished capacity. • 26. The Element Of Moral Philosophy By James Rachels In the book, The Element of Moral Philosophy , James Rachels explores the several criticisms of Utilitarianism. In this essay, I will touch on these criticisms, outlining the major implications they propose to Utilitarianism. I will also explain why many of the notions proposed against Utilitarianism are self serving, and instead serve to improve the general good of a minority population, which contradicts the Utilitarian theory of equating moral aptitude to the general good of a majority population, and that in this respect a greater consequence is achieved. Lastly, I will demonstrate how many societal values have a Utilitarian basis, which proves that Utilitarianism can be salvaged in the face of most criticisms. In substance, the nature of Utilitarianism is derived of consequence. Utilitarianism proposes that the outcome of an act should suggest whether or not said act is morally correct. Many philosophers disagree, and believe that the consequence of an act does little to implicate morality. For example, there are numerous crimes committed daily. Some of these crimes remain undiscovered and therefore result in zero negative consequence. The text specifically outlines a particular situation wherein a peeping Tom spies on a woman without her ever finding out. If the woman never finds out, then she has no reason to be upset, and in contrast the peeping Tom will be evidently pleased. When Lily stays as a guest at Bellomont eating fine food at her hosts expense, she is not receiving payment for goods or services.
