The Outsiders In The Nineteenth Century
In this small world we live in, everyone is connected. Whether one knows it, or not, we all impact
each other in some way, shape, or form. Such was the case for the outsiders who impacted a wide
variety of civilizations on the European and Asian continent. More specifically, groups such as, the
Vikings, Mongols, and Ottomans, upon entering the vast western region affected the citizens socially,
politically, and economically. During the eighth century, Europeans became aware of threats from the
north. Vikings raided the countryside eventually invading areas such as Britain and Ireland, Iceland,
Greenland, and Normandy. As stated by Alcuin in a letter to Ethelred, King of Northumbria, they left
fear in their wake: Lo, it is nearly 350 years that we and our fathers have inhabited this most lovely
land, and never before has such terror appeared in Britain as we have now suffered from a pagan race,
nor was it thought that such an inroad from the sea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to the Vikings and the Mongols, the Ottomans ravaged the countryside. However, unlike the
other outsiders, the Turks used a system to convert young men to the Islamic religion, and then forced
them to train, creating loyal soldiers. This system was called the devshirmeh system. The Ottoman
Decree also instituted schools. Moreover, every community is authorized to establish public schools of
science, art, and industry. Only the method of instructions and the choice of professors in schools of
this class shall be under the control of a mixed council of public instruction, the members of which
shall be named by my sovereign command. . . (Ottoman Decree). As a result of these schools, culture
flourished and there was an advancement in

In this report I will be explaining the different legal and ethical procedures that employees at Leyton
Sixth Form must follow. By doing this I will be discussing the data protection legislation, codes of
practice and operational issues. I will be linking it back to how Leyton Sixth Form College uses this
information and how they respond to a staff member breaking that act.
Data protection legislation:
Data Protection Act 1998
The data protection Act 1998 is how personal information of living people is being used. The main
intention is to protect people s data from being used illegally. The principles of the data protection act
that must be followed are the information must be used moderately and follow the rules set by the law.
The information must be kept for a certain period of time. For example, if an organisation has
information of someone and they can only keep it for 5 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the policy the college may set is how they use the internet. If they break those rules they could
face a severe consequence for not following the rules. The college must have a specific purpose of
using the internet. For example, they can have access to the internet to access their emails or websites
that will help them create a presentation to teach their students. They are not allowed to access certain
inappropriate websites as it is irrelevant to their jobs and some websites may have viruses that could
affect the computer system. As they work in a college, teachers have access to websites that students
don t. However, if they are caught trying to gain access to that site they may suffer severe
consequences from the head of the college which may result in the staff being sacked for breaking the
college rules they signed in their contract. They are allowed to use the internet for their own personal
use in their free time for example lunch

Sexuality Is A Social Identity That Goes Beyond The...
Sexuality is a social identity that goes beyond the objectivity of the title and into the subjective scope
of the personal lives of individuals, which in turn fabricate the social constructivism of a nation.
Classism, heterosexism, and cisgenderism are further reinforced within the institutionalization of
heteronormativity, being the promotion of the gender binary and heterosexuality as the only valid form
of gender expression and sexual orientation. The normalization of this system is not enforced as
inconspicuously as one would believe, with both Western and Eastern countries visibly dictating social
norms in regards to sexuality, by deeming certain sexual practices as socially acceptable through the
sanction of microaggressions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These American words which are typically used to further define and label individuals who do and do
not fall within the classifications of heteronormativity are used as the result of there being no cultural
explanation and validation for lesbian Thai women. The omittance of a translation for the term lesbian
in the Thai language further perpetuates the validation of heteronormativity as the only acceptable
form of relationships. The term men being used interchangeably with lesbian demonstrates how in the
Thai culture it is assumed and widely agreed that only men would be sexually attracted to women
(Sinnott, 2).
For Asian women, their sexuality has not only impacted their identity, that identity in itself has created
a power structure within each of these countries that has grown to include, but not outwardly accept
the sexual practices of marginalized groups of women. In Thailand specifically, it is made known that
homosexual behavior does not necessarily lead to an identity, nor does it necessarily constitute a
distinct transgression of sexual or gender norms , yet the secularization of queer women leads to class
divides, and sociocultural boundaries with the intention of exclusion (Sinnott, 3). Despite a vast array
of feeble terms to correctly identify masculine lesbians, feminine lesbians, normal (in regard to Thai
culture) women,

well as attempts to resolve relationship issues and caretaking behaviour
Going through this process may help ease the grieving process after death

Disadvantages Of CHO Cells
CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells are cell lines extracted from the ovary of the Chinese Hamster
and are exclusively used for commercial purposes in the production of recombinant therapeutic
proteins. Some proteins are to be synthesized using mammalian cells rather than the commonly used
microbial cells as the latter lacks the exact machinery to produce the complete protein or for safety
concerns. Among the mammalian cells, CHO cells continue to be the choice for the production of
several therapeutic proteins.
However there are certain disadvantages associated with CHO cells which include low productivity,
substrate product stability, slower growth rate, low cell density, etc. These cell lines consume nutrients
continuously beyond stoichiometric needs. Thus, the mode of operation should be chosen in such a
way that they overcome the disadvantages of the CHO cell line.
The large scale production of therapeutic proteins in industries is done in suspension culture as the
adherent cell line poses a challenge in scaling up. Currently there are two dominant modes of
operation for producing therapeutic proteins based on mammalian cell lines (Hu and Aunins, 1997) in
industrial scale:

environment can be maintained approximately constant during the course of the batch. Fed batch
culture is superior to conventional batch culture because concentrations of nutrients can be

Negative Effects Of Fake News
In this technologically advanced society, fake news is being widely spread across social media
platforms. Since the growing popularity in obtaining news online, a large number of the public prefer
to read social media news rather than authentic newspapers. It is apparent that sensational news draws
more attention and interest from the audience. According to A December 2016 survey by the Pew
Research Center suggests that 23 percent of U.S. adults have shared fake news, knowingly or
unknowingly, with friends and others. This suggests that sufficient power is given to fake news be
spread and influencing the public to some extent. Social networks could be exploited for various
intentions with packaged untrue contents. The term fake news refers to inaccurate reports that are
generated for gaining attention, misleading or deceiving their readers. The term social media refers to
the online communications channels where information is shared. This essay will explain the negative
impacts of fake news by focusing on its ability to decrease social media reliability, induce unnecessary
fear and disturb political decisions.
Firstly, the social media trust is one of the negative impacts of the fake news in social media. In recent
years, with the number of fake news increasing, the public trust of social media news had been
decreased. Reliability in social media is lower than reliability in traditional publishers. According to
Hunt Allcott and Matthew Gentzkow survey (2017), only 14

My Studio Project And The Oslo Opera House
he idea of being able to walk on top of the building is something that does not happen a lot.
Connecting the public to the building should be more than just creating a fascinating and interesting
facade. My idea is to describe how a building is able to connect to people, by allowing them to not just
walk inside or around but on top of the building creating a public space. The reason why I chose this
topic is that I wanted to make a connection to my studio project, and how I developed the idea for it.
In addition, I wanted to compare it to the Oslo Opera House and how this assisted me in arriving at my
final design. My studio project and the Oslo Opera House have a different scale however, I think they
share some similar concepts. The idea of togetherness, open space, and easy movement access to the
public, and most significantly its connection to the landscape.
Firstly, the location of the buildings is disparate, the Oslo Opera House does not really have a
connection to the landscape, since it is mostly part of the city surrounded by other buildings and where
traffic is heavy. There might be some connection between the Oslo Opera House and the landscape of
the river, which has influenced the design known as The Wave Wll . My project studio (picture 2) has
a huge connection to the landscape, which allowed me to work around the landscape instead of being
surrounded by buildings. The location of my building is in Beacon, NY, around Main St. behind some

How To Write An Essay On Pizza
When I was little, the one and only food that I would come back to all the time was pizza. I loved
pizza because it could be made to fit the taste of anyone, including my family of picky eaters, and it
was the perfect food for anytime because it makes people feel happier. As I got older, I became
interested in cooking and one day decided that I should try to make the one food that was symbol of
my entire childhood. However, I did not have the time to do every single step to make a pizza, nor did
I have the skill it took to properly flip around the pizza dough to aerate it properly to produce the

make the easiest at home pizza recipe.
Making a pizza at home with this recipe shortens the entire process and gives you results that are just

The Great Dictator s Speech By Charlie Chaplin
In The Great Dictator s Speech spoken by Charlie Chaplin, a famous actor in the early 20th century,
seems to talk about the evils in the world and how mankind should all unite and make peace with one
another without the need for war, death, and petty rivalries. However, the goal of the speaker in this
speech actually points towards his desire to gain power, which he will then abuse as it is written in the
name, The Great Dictators Speech. The main purpose of the speech itself is to inform people and all of
humanity has the power of themselves rather than a dictator. In other words: Freedom and peace in the
world. Chaplin s character talks of how man has fallen, succumbed to greed and misery, which then
turns into war and bloodshed. He uses this to convince people they all must set aside their differences
to unite as one to prevent future struggles in the world. In his first quote Chaplin says, We all want to
help one another. human beings are like that. We want to live by each other s happiness not by each
other s misery. We don t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for
everyone. He is stating in this text that the world would be a better place should people work together
and exercise the love of looking out for one another. If men weren t so preoccupied with greed and
self gratification, negative emotions like hate and misery would cease. The next quote states, The hate
of men will pass, and dictators will die, and the power they

New Atlantis By William Harvey
London, in the seventeenth century, underwent a progressive epistemological shift. In this period, the
intellectual paradigm slowly transitioned from a model wherein religious dogma, mysticism, and class
structure were the progenitors of thought to a model wherein scientific empiricism informed
discovery. Although there was a conflict between these ideological frameworks, we should not see this
confrontation of epistemologies as an overt and adversarial crisis of thought. Rather, the people
responsible for confronting the antique with the scientific often attempted to consolidate their
ideologies with those ideologies they were subtly challenging; they attempted to act within the
framework which they rejected. In this essay, we will explore this nearly contradictory sentiment by
examining four scientific works: On the Motion of the Heart, by William Harvey, Micrographia, by
Robert Hooke, New Atlantis and The Great Instauration, by Francis Bacon, and 153 Chymical
Aphorisms, by Chr. Packe. These four texts emerged from three distinct modes of scientific inquiry:

asking this question in the first place; for it sheweth that you first seek the kingdom of heaven. With
this quote, Bacon established that notions of divinity and salvation supercede any question of

The Change in Food Production in Pollan’s The Ominvore’s...
Food production has changed drastically throughout the span of this country s history, shifting from
small scale farms into mega facilities that horde animals inhumanely. In Pollan s The Ominvore s
Dilemma, he showcases the transformative nature of food production throughout the years, by
emphasizing the commercialization and industrialization aspects of this continual food evolution.
Though Pollan expresses his opinions on modern day methods of food production and categorization
of these means of production, he experiences the dilemma that is commonly faced by many
individuals in this day and age. Therefore, he undergoes the endeavor to find the solution to this
national dilemma.
He poses the question: what should we have for dinner? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many consumers are not able to see where their food comes from, similarly to how the corn no longer
has the information of how it was produced. The change in food production also is evident in the
decline in personal nature via packaging. Two centuries ago, people were able to purchase their corn
from the farm where the corn had been grown and most likely where they had developed a more
personal linkage with the farmer on a local level. Now, the connection between the source of
consumer s food production and the consumer itself are separated by thousands of miles, lacking
communication, acknowledgement, and awareness of the production process. Pollan implements
something as simple as a produce sack to showcase the reality that modern day consumers are denied
their right to know where and how their food was developed, violating one foundation of food justice:
the right to know what one is eating.
A possible explanation for why food production has changed so much can be that its consumers have
also evolved as a society the commercialization of agriculture has culminated this alteration within the
industry. The consumer s desire to connect back with their ancestors can be easily ascertained by
going to healthier markets like Wholefoods, among others. Pollan compares Wholefoods to a good
quality bookstore, filled with extensive nutritional vocabulary on their packaging. However, much of

Beethoven Moonlight Sonata Essay
baseball is purer than life
Jonathan Zajac

26 September 2014
1345 Words
Piano Sonata No. 14 Moonlight Sonata Music has been surrounding the human race since nature itself
whistled through the earth s first oak leaves. Throughout the centuries upon centuries of existence,
music has developed and adapted into what plays today through car radios across the world. Ludwig
van Beethoven himself helped pioneer music into what we understand of it in today s day and age.
Piano Sonata No. 14 commonly referred to as the Moonlight Sonata is the perfect example of a
musical cairn. This piece has three individual movements that can stand on their own, yet turn the
sonata as a whole into a masterpiece, speaks through both profundity and grace, and retains many of
the musical elements that cause sonatas such as this to maintain relevancy throughout the test of time.
Moonlight Sonata is really a composition of three movements that keep the piece interesting. The first

Beethoven implements the key of Db major, which is recognized worldwide as the standard parallel to
C# minor, the prior key. What this means is that after the mysteriousness and suspense of Adagio
Sostenuto, Beethoven turns the next movement into the exact opposite. What was slow is now fast;
mystery is now understanding; cringing is now comfort. Most importantly, what was mournful is now
buoyant. All of this is changed simply because of the transition from C# minor to Db major. The
sostenuto is fully resolved unexpectedly, and the cheerful disposition is maintained by sforzandos and
forte pianos, both of these causing sudden spurts of joyful loudness, strategically placed throughout

Comparing Gilgamesh s Polpol Vuh And Other Myths
Polpol Vuh and other Myths After reading the book Polpol Vuh, I was able to instantly point out many
similarities and differences between two other myths that we have read throughout the class. The first
myth that came to mind was Genesis. Genesis and Polpol Vuh both talk of creation of animals, trees,
and mountains, as well as the creation of mankind, After doing research in the past, I knew that
Genesis and Gilgamesh had similarities which then put Gilgamesh in the category with Polpol Vuh
and Genesis. While reading these tales, I was also able to answer a series of questions based on my
opinions. In this essay, I will explain my beliefs about what the people in these three tales seem to
believe about how they came to be, what qualities they share, what is important to them, why their
creator(s) make them, their reason for being where they are and lastly, what a good person and bad
person would be like if these people wanted to be like their creator(s). I believe that the people in
Genesis believe that they are created from Gods image. In genesis, it states, And God created the

Although the Ancient Egyptian Civilization and the Byzantine Empire both had a big influence on
each other and are very similar, they also have their big differences. The first and foremost of those
differences being how the members of each civilizations made their living. The Ancient Egyptians
were mostly farmers, or laborers, while the people of the Byzantine Empire were mostly traders,
builders, tutors, and doctors. Another difference and similarity is each civilization s respective
geographical features. They both share access to the Mediterranean Sea, but while Ancient Egypt has
many man made geographical features, the Byzantine Empire has little to none. Other differences
include religious aspects, written languages, and systems of rule. ... Show more content on

The standard religion in Ancient Egypt wasn t really one set religion at all. It was more a mix of all of
the main principles of the different, and most prominent religions we observe being practiced around
the world today. Like most religions, they had a belief in a higher power, they were polytheistic that
went with an extensive mythology for all of the gods they worshipped, whilst having a very strong
belief of spiritualism, and having magic incorporated into many parts of their religion. They also had a
more scientific aspects of their religion such as psychiatry, herbology, and medicine. Contrarily, the
religion of Byzantium wa much more predetermined, standard, and while being Christianity at the
specific time of those people, their religion is very similar to that of today s Christianity. They were
monotheistic, meaning they only worshipped one god, unlike the Ancient Egyptians. While they only
worshipped one god, they believed that there were three elements to him: God the Father; God the Son
and the Holy Spirit. They followed the teachings of Jesus Christ, also viewing him as the son of God,
and the messiah promised in the Old Testament. They obtained this information from their holy book
called the Bible, and worshipped and were taught lessons from the Bible in churches, by their
religious leaders called Priests or Ministers. Other

Why did the Industrial Revolution begin in England, and...
The Industrial Revolution refers to the greatly increased output of machine made goods that began in
England in the middle 1700s. Before the Industrial Revolution, people made items by hand. Soon
machines did the jobs that people didn t want to do. This was a more efficient way of making goods.
During the industrial revolution, Political, economical, and social forces led to a period of upheaval
for the French during the eighteenth century. What political, economical, and social forces led to a
period of upheaval though during this time? In 1700, small farms covered England s territory. Wealthy
landowners started to buy the land that the village farmers had once worked on. These landowners

Other countries had some advantages that could enable them to industrialize but it wasn t enough. In
order for Britain to industrialize, they needed land, labor, and wealth, which they had and the other
countries didn t. So then what inventions helped industrialization form? Well, the textile industry
transformed first. Cloth merchants boosted their profit because they could produce more clothing. In
1733, John Kay made an invention called the flying shuttle that sped back and forth on wheels. It was
a boat shaped piece of wood that yarn was attached to and doubled the work that a weaver could only
do in a day. Around the time of 1764, a textile worker named James Hargreaves invented a spinning
wheel he named after his daughter, jenny. His spinning jenny allowed one spinner to work eight
threads at a time. At first, the textile workers operated these machines by hand. Then, Richard
Arkwright invented the water frame that used water rapidly flowing through streams in order to
operate this machine. In 1779, Samuel Crompton combined features of the spinning jenny and the
water frame to produce the spinning mule. The spinning mule made thread that was stronger, finer,
and more consistent than earlier spinning machines. Run by waterpower, Edmund Cartwright s power
loom sped up weaving after its invention in 1787. What did all of this progress lead to next?

Business Cycle Essay
In everyday society, companies are affected by the economy. The company either suffers or benefits
depending on what kind of economy it is. This will depend on what kind of company it is, and what
kind of market the business does well in. The Business Cycle is what determines this factor. It is a
term used in economics to designate changes in the economy.
Timing of the business cycle is not predictable, but its phases seem to be. Many economists site four
phases prosperity, liquidation, depression, and recovery. During a period of prosperity, a rise in
production leads to increases in employment, wages, and profits. Obstacles then begin to obstruct
further expansion. Production costs can increase, helping create a rise in prices, and ... Show more

Theories Of Evolution
What is evolution? (Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought
to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth). Charles Darwin
was the original founder of evolution. There are many theories out there that scientist have came up
with and have come to believe through research on ancient organism remains, similarities of embryos,
fossil records, and chemical and Anatomical similarities. Ancient organisms, scientist say that
organisms that lived long ago that have modern day organisms that look just alike or very similar to

then realized that the fossils and the moderate day organisms remains didn t look alike and had
features that the other didn t have. Moderate day scientist have technology that they can date back
fossils and find out when the organism was alive. Similarities of living organisms, this is the belief
that organism came from one or two common organisms. A great example of this is houses, donkeys,
and zebras, they are all similar organisms that have almost the same body structure, but they live in
different parts of the world and have evolved and adapted to where they live so they can survive.
(Scientists can compare the DNA of two organisms; the more similar the DNA, the more closely
related the organisms). Similarities of embryos, an embryo is an unborn or unhatched child. Scientist
say that many organisms have similar characteristics (This shows that the animals are similar and that
they develop similarly, implying that they are related, have common ancestors and that they started out
the same, gradually evolving different traits, but that the basic plan for a creature s beginning remains
the same). A good example of this is a frog, a hippo, and a rabbit they have similar characteristics such
as frogs and rabbits both being able to jump and the frog and hippo being able to stay underwater for

Personal Statement Of Personal Ministry Experience

My thinking was this: we could go to boot camp and if we did not like the Corps then, in the reserves,
we would only have to serve one weekend a month. I wanted to hang on to those old things and people

We left our home town in November of 1997. Little did I know, even in my lost state, the Sovereign

Lucius Cornelius Sulla Essay
Lucius Cornelius Sulla From a rather humble beginning Lucius Cornelius Sulla rose to become a great
politician and a powerful general in the Roman Republic. As a general, Sulla lead Roman armies to
many victories. As a politician he became a powerful dictator and yet was responsible for bringing
about many reforms. This essay will prove how he was a great dictator, politician and general, through
discussing his background, his military and political career, his dictatorship, and his accomplishments

The following year Sulla ran and was elected as praetor, the second highest position in the Roman
republic. After his term of praetor was up, he returned to the battle field. This time it was against
Mithridates, King of Pontus. Sulla did not have a full army with him so he had to recruit soldiers from
Roman allies. His ability to get these soldiers and to push Mithridates back, shows his great military
skills. This campaign was also important because it brought Rome into contact with the powerful
Parthia Empire. He was able to arrange a treaty with Parthia, which was a milestone for Sulla. This
would not be the last time he would meet Mithridates in battle. Soon Sulla and Marius again had to
forget there many differences to defend Rome against Allied Italian forces who had declared war on
Rome. They had set up their own government and were preparing to become an independent nation.
This war was known as the Social War because the Latin name for Roman allies was socii. It was
ended by a more important conflict, the invasion of a Roman province in Asia Minor by Mithridates.
The Romans and the Italians signed a peace treaty in 89 B.C. Soon the main focus for Rome was
Mithridates of Pontus in the east. In 88 B.C. Sulla was elected consul. The Senate also named him
commander of the forces against Mithridates. Marius had wanted this command for himself. After
Sulla left Rome Marius convinced the people s assembly to give him

How Did Bob Marley Influence American Culture
Bob Marley and his reggae style music have not only reined supreme throughout Jamaica but also
throughout the entire world. Marley s music, style, philosophy and Rasta pride have, overtime,

based off of life and love and eventually the messages in his music began to shift to correspond with
the political violence occurring in Jamaica at the time. From the beginning of his career to the end, his

and his religion had on the formulation of his music and the influence that it had on the world. Robert
Bob Marley was born in St. Ann, Jamaica on February 6, 1945. Marley was the product of a white
father and a black mother. In the famous documentary Marley by Kevin Macdonald, Marley acclaims,

During this era, the unification among blacks and whites was extremely looked down upon, and
Marley greatly suffered rejection from this characteristic. He also suffered from growing up without a
father, which led him to live a life in poverty and rejection from superior races (Gilroy 231). Living in

Through my research and writing, I would like to be able to conclude various techniques used, to
manipulate mood within a space, in relation to lighting. Over the years, research has been conducted
to deduce what sort of lighting should be used in specific locations rather than others, depending on

that are involved in creating good lighting within a space which go beyond the actual lighting fixture

Egyptian temples are a clear indication of this manipulation of light source. Temples do not exercise a
uniform form of lighting but a decreased intensity throughout the space, allowing time for the eye to
adapt along the way. Intense beams are used to highlight spots which were considered to be more
important, such as the statue of a pharaoh or important murals. Lighting was not introduced earlier
than the 17th century as a form of illuminating a specific space. The delay in development had
everything to do with the lack of scientific advancement at that stage and the misunderstanding of the
combustion process among other things. The first source of light developed to illuminate specific
areas was a lamp constructed by Francois Argand, which would later be known as the Argand lamp.
Essentially this was an oil lamp with a tubular wick, manufactured to facilitate situations such as
evening family gathering occasions and centrally situated light sources. This device was later
developed to solve under lit area problems such as stage lighting and street lighting which required to
be lit for specific lengths of time. The first competitor to this invention was introduced in the late 18th
century, also known as a gas lamp. This

Macedonian had special way of attacking. The phalanx tactic to attack consisted of a line that was

people to find press sources that agree with their worldview. However, even in these situations it is
important to consider how mainstream sources choose to frame and issue. The journalism industry
depends upon conventions and those conventions can help to shape and influence coverage
(Richardson, 2007). Furthermore the language choices that journalists made influence how the public
perceives coverage (Richardson, 2007). In the example of the coverage of Kim Davis the argument

It is not logical to invest a significant amount of federal funds into airline security employment if there
is a large discrepancy between their current performances and expected results. However, technology
utilizes a significantly less amount of funding, but continues to perform its tasks. The Trump
administration plans to eliminate three airport security programs that were implemented after the 9/11
terrorist attack: Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response program that conduct random sweeps
through airports and other modes of transportation, Behavior Detection Officer program that identifies
potentially high risk individuals exhibiting behavior indicative of excessiveness then re routes them
for additional screening, and the grant program to support local police at airports, specifically, likely

of these programs will increase the budget for the Department of Homeland Security, but does not
reduce the number of TSA officers at checkpoints. There is also more funding for the government to
invest in other areas to improve the security for the general public. There is also a current decline in

unaccountability might stop and where free will and moral responsibility begin. Determinism is the
strict opinion that every action and decision is the cause of an event, genetics or the environment prior
to that action. Quite the opposite is libertarianism, which happens to be the genuine belief in free will
as well as the denial of universal causation. Finally, deep self compatibilism meshes both of these
stand points together and introduces the idea that one s action can be free if it stems purely out of
personal, authentic desire. Since all three judgments have a backbone of convincing ... Show more

Second, Silenus would agree that if something is caused it can never be free. Silenus is very high on
himself as he rarely ever takes Hench s threats seriously because he is intelligent enough to understand
that Hench feels responsible for anything that he does. This is partially because Silenus is constantly
reminding him that he isn t responsible for how his mind works and thus can never be held
accountable for any action that may blossem from his desires. Third, since Silenus concludes that he is
not responsible for what he is, free will and moral responsibility must cease to exist in his case. Don t
be silly Hench. Only human beings are responsible. I am what I am, (Satyr, 218). The Satyr considers
himself to be above human responsibility based on both his pre determined genetic information, and
also his environment when he s reduced to cleaning his creator s lab. To add, all human acquaintances
Silenus has had the displeasure of meeting label him as an untrustworthy beast. By soaking up human
behavior like a sponge, Silenus discovers that people can be extremely selfish, so he decides it is ok to
mock this behavior in a very direct manner. Therefore, Silenus the Satyr and his determinist view that
there are reasons behind every action have even Hench convinced that he is in fact liable for all
negative outcomes that Silenus may initiate.
In the beginning of the story, Hench is

Theme Of A Confederacy Of Dunces
A Confederacy of Dunces, by Kennedy Toole, is a novel that narrates the struggles and
misunderstandings of a thirty year old man, Ignatius Reilly, living in New Orleans with his mother.
Not sane but not insane, this book is filled with situations of comic relief that allows the reader to truly
grasp the writing style of Toole. A social criticizing theme, controversial characters and a very unique
sense of structure makes ups the novel s 14 chapters. Ignatius is found in a conflicting situation when
his mother and him are in a car accident, which leaves them with a debt of a thousand dollars.
Ignatius, even though he has a high education and is 30 years old, he is unemployed and still living
with his mother. But in this moment of need, Ms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why did Ignatius act like he didn t care nor love his mother or anyone around him? Why are there so
many different roles in this story but seem to have little or no connection? Who is Ignatius and why
should I read a whole novel mainly revolving him? It was disconcerting at first, it was difficult to
maintain interest but as the story progressed you saw deeper into the intricate mind of this strange
gentleman named Ignatius. You began to see that the lack of social skills was rooted from scarring
incidents in his childhood. That he wasn t a cold and unappealing man as he first appeared; he felt true
feelings for his ex girlfriend, he feared being judged as crazy and entering a mental institution, and he
actually could be affected by the actions of his mother. We also learn that Ms. Reilly was not only
looking for her well being, but that there were strands of love for her son and wanting to see him
succeed in life, in whatever sense that may be. Another very interesting part to the way of Ignatius in
Toole s writing is the dominant voice throughout the story. This can be rooted from the fact that it is
said that the story is a loose version of his own life experiences. Toole s way of presenting a very
disturbing, controversial, and difficult to relate to protagonist, was my main discomfort in the novel.
Discomfort doesn t necessarily mean bad though; reading the

Economists Estimate Wealth And Poverty

Prof, Brian Curtis

Wealth and Poverty Economists estimate wealth and poverty in many ways. The most three common
measures are income, possessions (accumulated wealth in the form of money, securities, and real
estate), and socioeconomic metrics. Actions in the last category go beyond financial data to account
for health, food, infant mortality, sanitation, and other phases of human well being. Usually, wealth
and poverty measured regarding income. Information on income is readily available, credible, and
relevant, particularly in discussing poverty in the United States, wherever the inherited wealth is a
small factor, and most people live on wages and salaries. It s beneficial to think of wealth and poverty
about one another. That s because income inequality is truly the underlying issue in poverty,
particularly in developed countries. In the economic talk, income inequality indicates to the variation
of revenue between and among several groups of people and households in an economy. Frequently
the differences in wealth that effect people feel wealthy or poor. In a developed country, any family
inside a house with indoor plumbing, decent food, and clothes, running water, and education and
access to health care. This kind of life will be considered as a luxury. In the United States, millions of
people who are enjoying these things are considered poor people, and those things constitute the
essentials in America. In developed

Functionalist Theorists
Incense are made of all natural materials used for direct burning. Today, and in history, incense are
known to be ritualistic and needed to complete various traditions. Based on my own religion, Catholic
churches often use incense to prepare for prayers and rituals. Incense are used in Catholic churches
mainly during prayers for smell, and for the use of smoke. The aroma of incense are used to
communicate with God, by sending good wishes, and prayers through its rich fragrance.
Conflict Theorists
Many people who aren t religious believe incense are not necessarily needed to complete rituals or
prayers. In other words,

Analysis Of The Song Viva La Vida
This sonnet is a remarkable pastiche of the song Viva la Vida by Coldplay, which has been modified
by Erik Didriksen. The poet rewrite[s] pop songs as sonnets in [a]n exciting and fun project that
demonstrates the ongoing appeal of the English sonnet titled as Pop Sonnets (David Hadbawnik).
Seeing that the poem is written as a Shakespearean sonnet; it is consisted of 14 lines that are grouped
into three quatrains: 4 lines, and one couplet: 2 lines, and is written in an iambic pentameter. The
rhyme scheme of the poem is ababcdcdefefgg, which is called cross rhyme. All the quatrains are end
stopped, which is the opposite of enjambment, punctuation ending the sense with the lines, however,
the quatrains have internal enjambments (Lennard

Causing Harm With Trade Embargos And Sanctions
Causing Harm With Trade Embargos and Sanctions
Trade embargos have tremendous consequences for countries that are being embargoed. The embargos
not only affect the country that are being embargoed, but the effect bleed over the borders to the
surrounding countries. The list of countries that have been sanctioned by the United Nations included
Russia, North Cyprus, and Cuba. United Nations sanctions that target countries affect the economy,
the morale, and encourages criminal activities to obtain goods. The majority of good hearted citizens
would be appalled if they were walking down a street and saw a dog tied up in a yard looking like it
hadn t eaten for a week. These citizens would take a minute retrieve their phone and call the Humane
Society to report this cruel treatment of this poor dog. As doctor C. M. Tiplada, D. B. Walsh, and C. J.
C. Phillips wrote in their journal article, Public outrage after undercover footage of animal cruelty is
screened has been reported in a range of countries, such as USA, Canada, and the UK (636). Who do
the citizen call when they are being treated like the dog and the owner of the dog is the United
Nations? This is how people around the world are being treated each and every day when their country
has an embargo imposed on the resources that are able to enter and exit their country. These embargos
create personnel harm to the citizens of the country at the expense of political malfeasance.
The United Nations has a greater

Flaws Of Mrs Dalloway
In Virginia Woolf s novel Mrs. Dalloway, readers follow many character s train of consciences. One of
the main characters is Mrs. Dalloway (also referred to as Clarissa), readers learn that she is as normal
as any other person. She has insecurities, she can be bitter and uptight, she runs errands to get ready
for a party she is having, Clarissa stops and smells the roses (figuratively and literally). Mrs. Dalloway
has her faults as any other person but she also has her quirks and liveliness as any other person does as
well. One of her faults is that she is insecure despite that she is 50 years old, she still feels like the
insecure 18 year old at times. Not that she thought herself clever, or much out of the ordinary. Clarissa
Dalloway is a member of high society, she would have had some form of schooling whether it ...

She would not say of any one in the world now that they were this or were that. Readers tend to
condemn her through these two traits but readers should, instead, try to understand them. It is in
human nature to be indecisive; humans try to chose something that is safe and familiar, when that is
not an option humans become indecisive. The brain only holds as much information as it deems
necessary, that excuses being a hypocrite at some points in life. In Mrs. Dalloway Clarissa flashes
back from when she was 18 to how old she is presently at age 51. Of course she is going to be
hypocritical at times. In this passage she is considered a hypocrite because she says, ...she could not
think. but this entire passage is made up purely of her thoughts about herself. A significant portion of
the book is Clarissa s thoughts. Perhaps Clarissa thinks that she cannot think because she does not
believe she is clever. This rounds out the theory that Clarissa is insecure and it prompts the question,
Is Clarissa always going to be insecure? Will she be like this throughout the entire

The Consequences of Responsibility in Dubliners Essay
The Consequences of Responsibility in Dubliners
James Joyce wrote a book of stories called Dubliners discussing different people s lives in Dublin. In
writing these stories, Joyce tries to portray in the characters a sense of sadness and pressure to do what
is expected in society. When he wrote the book it was during a rough time in Dublin. Therefore, the
issues that he discusses in the different stories show how the lives of the people were not as happy as
they all wished. In the stories Eveline, The Boarding House, and The Dead, each one of the characters
find some form of light at the end of the story which gives them a new start on their lives. Eveline is a
story about a girl who wants to escape from her life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It caused her to feel obligated to stay home, which she felt made her more miserable. With Evelin s
obligation to her father, she was forced upon by her decision to obey her mother s wishes. It made it
hard for Eveline to want to stay in Dubline because of how her father treated her, he had begun to
threaten her and say what he would to do her only for her dead mother s sake (30) even after that
Eveline still felt obligated to help her father. His meanness caused a depressing feeling over Eveline.
After her mother died and she was obligated to take on her mother s role, she says, It was hard work
hard life (31); she did it for her friends, family, and especially her mother. Eveline s obligation to her
mother and father causes her consequence for her dark emotions at times.
Eveline also feels obligated to her friends and her fiancé Frank, which made her trying to make her
decision frustrating at times. Eveline felt she had an obligation to her friends and especially because
she was expected to live the life her mother led. She says, [Her friends] always had an edge on her,
especially whenever there were people listening, (30) which made her want to escape even more.
While if she left with Frank she says, she would not cry many tears at leaving the Stores (30), which

  • 2. The Outsiders In The Nineteenth Century In this small world we live in, everyone is connected. Whether one knows it, or not, we all impact each other in some way, shape, or form. Such was the case for the outsiders who impacted a wide variety of civilizations on the European and Asian continent. More specifically, groups such as, the Vikings, Mongols, and Ottomans, upon entering the vast western region affected the citizens socially, politically, and economically. During the eighth century, Europeans became aware of threats from the north. Vikings raided the countryside eventually invading areas such as Britain and Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, and Normandy. As stated by Alcuin in a letter to Ethelred, King of Northumbria, they left fear in their wake: Lo, it is nearly 350 years that we and our fathers have inhabited this most lovely land, and never before has such terror appeared in Britain as we have now suffered from a pagan race, nor was it thought that such an inroad from the sea ... • 4. Sexuality Is A Social Identity That Goes Beyond The... Sexuality is a social identity that goes beyond the objectivity of the title and into the subjective scope of the personal lives of individuals, which in turn fabricate the social constructivism of a nation. Classism, heterosexism, and cisgenderism are further reinforced within the institutionalization of heteronormativity, being the promotion of the gender binary and heterosexuality as the only valid form of gender expression and sexual orientation. The normalization of this system is not enforced as inconspicuously as one would believe, with both Western and Eastern countries visibly dictating social norms in regards to sexuality, by deeming certain sexual practices as socially acceptable through the sanction of microaggressions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These American words which are typically used to further define and label individuals who do and do not fall within the classifications of heteronormativity are used as the result of there being no cultural explanation and validation for lesbian Thai women. The omittance of a translation for the term lesbian in the Thai language further perpetuates the validation of heteronormativity as the only acceptable form of relationships. The term men being used interchangeably with lesbian demonstrates how in the Thai culture it is assumed and widely agreed that only men would be sexually attracted to women (Sinnott, 2). For Asian women, their sexuality has not only impacted their identity, that identity in itself has created a power structure within each of these countries that has grown to include, but not outwardly accept the sexual practices of marginalized groups of women. In Thailand specifically, it is made known that homosexual behavior does not necessarily lead to an identity, nor does it necessarily constitute a distinct transgression of sexual or gender norms , yet the secularization of queer women leads to class divides, and sociocultural boundaries with the intention of exclusion (Sinnott, 3). • 6. Disadvantages Of CHO Cells CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells are cell lines extracted from the ovary of the Chinese Hamster and are exclusively used for commercial purposes in the production of recombinant therapeutic proteins. Some proteins are to be synthesized using mammalian cells rather than the commonly used microbial cells as the latter lacks the exact machinery to produce the complete protein or for safety concerns. Among the mammalian cells, CHO cells continue to be the choice for the production of several therapeutic proteins. However there are certain disadvantages associated with CHO cells which include low productivity, substrate product stability, slower growth rate, low cell density, etc. These cell lines consume nutrients continuously beyond stoichiometric needs. Thus, the mode of operation should be chosen in such a way that they overcome the disadvantages of the CHO cell line. The large scale production of therapeutic proteins in industries is done in suspension culture as the adherent cell line poses a challenge in scaling up. Currently there are two dominant modes of operation for producing therapeutic proteins based on mammalian cell lines (Hu and Aunins, 1997) in industrial scale: Fed batch bioreactors Perfusion ... • 11. My Studio Project And The Oslo Opera House he idea of being able to walk on top of the building is something that does not happen a lot. Connecting the public to the building should be more than just creating a fascinating and interesting facade. My idea is to describe how a building is able to connect to people, by allowing them to not just walk inside or around but on top of the building creating a public space. The reason why I chose this topic is that I wanted to make a connection to my studio project, and how I developed the idea for it. In addition, I wanted to compare it to the Oslo Opera House and how this assisted me in arriving at my final design. My studio project and the Oslo Opera House have a different scale however, I think they share some similar concepts. The idea of togetherness, open space, and easy movement access to the public, and most significantly its connection to the landscape. Firstly, the location of the buildings is disparate, the Oslo Opera House does not really have a connection to the landscape, since it is mostly part of the city surrounded by other buildings and where traffic is heavy. There might be some connection between the Oslo Opera House and the landscape of the river, which has influenced the design known as The Wave Wll . • 14. The Great Dictator s Speech By Charlie Chaplin In The Great Dictator s Speech spoken by Charlie Chaplin, a famous actor in the early 20th century, seems to talk about the evils in the world and how mankind should all unite and make peace with one another without the need for war, death, and petty rivalries. However, the goal of the speaker in this speech actually points towards his desire to gain power, which he will then abuse as it is written in the name, The Great Dictators Speech. The main purpose of the speech itself is to inform people and all of humanity has the power of themselves rather than a dictator. In other words: Freedom and peace in the world. Chaplin s character talks of how man has fallen, succumbed to greed and misery, which then turns into war and bloodshed. He uses this to convince people they all must set aside their differences to unite as one to prevent future struggles in the world. In his first quote Chaplin says, We all want to help one another. human beings are like that. We want to live by each other s happiness not by each other s misery. We don t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. He is stating in this text that the world would be a better place should people work together and exercise the love of looking out for one another. If men weren t so preoccupied with greed and self gratification, negative emotions like hate and misery would cease. • 15. New Atlantis By William Harvey London, in the seventeenth century, underwent a progressive epistemological shift. In this period, the intellectual paradigm slowly transitioned from a model wherein religious dogma, mysticism, and class structure were the progenitors of thought to a model wherein scientific empiricism informed discovery. Although there was a conflict between these ideological frameworks, we should not see this confrontation of epistemologies as an overt and adversarial crisis of thought. Rather, the people responsible for confronting the antique with the scientific often attempted to consolidate their ideologies with those ideologies they were subtly challenging; they attempted to act within the framework which they rejected. In this essay, we will explore this nearly contradictory sentiment by examining four scientific works: On the Motion of the Heart, by William Harvey, Micrographia, by Robert Hooke, New Atlantis and The Great Instauration, by Francis Bacon, and 153 Chymical Aphorisms, by Chr. Packe. These four texts emerged from three distinct modes of scientific inquiry: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many consumers are not able to see where their food comes from, similarly to how the corn no longer has the information of how it was produced. The change in food production also is evident in the decline in personal nature via packaging. Two centuries ago, people were able to purchase their corn from the farm where the corn had been grown and most likely where they had developed a more personal linkage with the farmer on a local level. Now, the connection between the source of consumer s food production and the consumer itself are separated by thousands of miles, lacking communication, acknowledgement, and awareness of the production process. Pollan implements something as simple as a produce sack to showcase the reality that modern day consumers are denied their right to know where and how their food was developed, violating one foundation of food justice: the right to know what one is eating. A possible explanation for why food production has changed so much can be that its consumers have also evolved as a society the commercialization of agriculture has culminated this alteration within the industry. The consumer s desire to connect back with their ancestors can be easily ascertained by going to healthier markets like Wholefoods, among others. Pollan compares Wholefoods to a good quality bookstore, filled with extensive nutritional vocabulary on their packaging. However, much of it is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beethoven Moonlight Sonata Essay baseball is purer than life Jonathan Zajac Professor Palke 26 September 2014 1345 Words Piano Sonata No. 14 Moonlight Sonata Music has been surrounding the human race since nature itself whistled through the earth s first oak leaves. What was slow is now fast; mystery is now understanding; cringing is now comfort. Most importantly, what was mournful is now buoyant. All of this is changed simply because of the transition from C# minor to Db major. Well, the textile industry transformed first. Cloth merchants boosted their profit because they could produce more clothing. In 1733, John Kay made an invention called the flying shuttle that sped back and forth on wheels. It was a boat shaped piece of wood that yarn was attached to and doubled the work that a weaver could only do in a day. Around the time of 1764, a textile worker named James Hargreaves invented a spinning wheel he named after his daughter, jenny. His spinning jenny allowed one spinner to work eight threads at a time. At first, the textile workers operated these machines by hand. Then, Richard Arkwright invented the water frame that used water rapidly flowing through streams in order to operate this machine. In 1779, Samuel Crompton combined features of the spinning jenny and the water frame to produce the spinning mule. The spinning mule made thread that was stronger, finer, and more consistent than earlier spinning machines. • 38. Media Frames In this era of political polarization and increasingly partisan news outlets, it has become simply for people to find press sources that agree with their worldview. However, even in these situations it is important to consider how mainstream sources choose to frame and issue. The journalism industry depends upon conventions and those conventions can help to shape and influence coverage (Richardson, 2007). Furthermore the language choices that journalists made influence how the public perceives coverage (Richardson, 2007). In the example of the coverage of Kim Davis the argument has multiple stakeholders, yet journalism s traditions leave the expectation that the debate will be geared toward conflict (McCaffrey Keys, 2000; Levasseur, Sawyer, ... However, efforts by gay rights advocates in the past have often been limited to attempting to repair the negative perception of the group created by prior framing in the media (Barnett, 2005). In addition, the liberal side of this issue is constantly being challenged by conservative groups who are pushing for the media to exclude what coverage exists of issues such as gay rights that are against conservative beliefs (Parenti, 1995). The Impact Of Technology In Airport Security Sixteen years and billions of dollars invested in the growth of aviation security after the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, threats to airport security continuously progress as the United States aviation security encounters numerous changes. Since the September 11th attacks, the Transportation Security Administration, also known as the TSA, initiated their plan to ensure the safety of nearly 2 million air passengers at approximately 440 airports nationwide. (Carraway) Although the TSA implemented new training procedures, the aviation screeners fail to apply their skills effective during searches and checkpoints. It is not logical to invest a significant amount of federal funds into airline security employment if there is a large discrepancy between their current performances and expected results. However, technology utilizes a significantly less amount of funding, but continues to perform its tasks. The Trump administration plans to eliminate three airport security programs that were implemented after the 9/11 terrorist attack: Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response program that conduct random sweeps through airports and other modes of transportation, Behavior Detection Officer program that identifies potentially high risk individuals exhibiting behavior indicative of excessiveness then re routes them for additional screening, and the grant program to support local police at airports, specifically, likely target cities. (Halsey) These plans indicate that the Trump administration believes that the termination of these programs will increase the budget for the Department of Homeland Security, but does not reduce the number of TSA officers at checkpoints. There is also more funding for the government to invest in other areas to improve the security for the general public. There is also a current decline in airport staffing. In this report, the TSA admits that TSO staffing levels fell from 47,147 full time employees to 42,525 between 2013 and 2016; concurrent passenger volume rose 15 percent in this period, while the TSA only hired 373 workers to ... • 41. Free-Will And Determinism Free Will and Determinism is it an Illusion? Determinism, libertarianism and compatibilism are three significantly different views on where unaccountability might stop and where free will and moral responsibility begin. Determinism is the strict opinion that every action and decision is the cause of an event, genetics or the environment prior to that action. Quite the opposite is libertarianism, which happens to be the genuine belief in free will as well as the denial of universal causation. Finally, deep self compatibilism meshes both of these stand points together and introduces the idea that one s action can be free if it stems purely out of personal, authentic desire. Silenus is very high on himself as he rarely ever takes Hench s threats seriously because he is intelligent enough to understand that Hench feels responsible for anything that he does. This is partially because Silenus is constantly reminding him that he isn t responsible for how his mind works and thus can never be held accountable for any action that may blossem from his desires. Third, since Silenus concludes that he is not responsible for what he is, free will and moral responsibility must cease to exist in his case. Don t be silly Hench. Only human beings are responsible. I am what I am, (Satyr, 218). The Satyr considers himself to be above human responsibility based on both his pre determined genetic information, and also his environment when he s reduced to cleaning his creator s lab. To add, all human acquaintances Silenus has had the displeasure of meeting label him as an untrustworthy beast. By soaking up human behavior like a sponge, Silenus discovers that people can be extremely selfish, so he decides it is ok to mock this behavior in a very direct manner. Therefore, Silenus the Satyr and his determinist view that there are reasons behind every action have even Hench convinced that he is in fact liable for all negative outcomes that Silenus may initiate. • 42. Theme Of A Confederacy Of Dunces A Confederacy of Dunces, by Kennedy Toole, is a novel that narrates the struggles and misunderstandings of a thirty year old man, Ignatius Reilly, living in New Orleans with his mother. Not sane but not insane, this book is filled with situations of comic relief that allows the reader to truly grasp the writing style of Toole. A social criticizing theme, controversial characters and a very unique sense of structure makes ups the novel s 14 chapters. Ignatius is found in a conflicting situation when his mother and him are in a car accident, which leaves them with a debt of a thousand dollars. Ignatius, even though he has a high education and is 30 years old, he is unemployed and still living with his mother. But in this moment of need, Ms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why did Ignatius act like he didn t care nor love his mother or anyone around him? Why are there so many different roles in this story but seem to have little or no connection? Who is Ignatius and why should I read a whole novel mainly revolving him? It was disconcerting at first, it was difficult to maintain interest but as the story progressed you saw deeper into the intricate mind of this strange gentleman named Ignatius. You began to see that the lack of social skills was rooted from scarring incidents in his childhood. That he wasn t a cold and unappealing man as he first appeared; he felt true feelings for his ex girlfriend, he feared being judged as crazy and entering a mental institution, and he actually could be affected by the actions of his mother. We also learn that Ms. Reilly was not only looking for her well being, but that there were strands of love for her son and wanting to see him succeed in life, in whatever sense that may be. Another very interesting part to the way of Ignatius in Toole s writing is the dominant voice throughout the story. This can be rooted from the fact that it is said that the story is a loose version of his own life experiences. Toole s way of presenting a very disturbing, controversial, and difficult to relate to protagonist, was my main discomfort in the novel. Discomfort doesn t necessarily mean bad though; reading the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most three common measures are income, possessions (accumulated wealth in the form of money, securities, and real estate), and socioeconomic metrics. Actions in the last category go beyond financial data to account for health, food, infant mortality, sanitation, and other phases of human well being. Usually, wealth and poverty measured regarding income.
