Recording Food Intake For Three Days Essay
Making sure nutritional needs become a part of any lifestyle requires understanding exactly what the
body needs to obtain and maintain optimal health. The recording food intake for three days provides
many areas of nutrition that I am more aware of that before; this includes protein, carbohydrate, lipid,
and fiber intake needs. Meeting the nutritional needs of the human body helps to ensure a healthy
lifestyle that is free of disease and illness.
Intake of Protein, Carbohydrates, and Lipids
The 3 days diet from the iProfile data shows the majority of protein intake from meats, such as
chicken and tuna. The data shows that protein is a nutrient in nearly every food source but is lower
than four grams if it is not a meat product. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adding more servings of whole wheat grains, such as brown rice will assist in raising both the fiber
and carbohydrate intake as well.
The right combinations of food help to guarantee that the food an individual consumes is complete in
its nutritional content of proteins, such as combining vegetables and grains that separately have
incomplete proteins but together provide complete proteins (Grosvenor Smolin, 2012). Out of the 20
amino acids the human body needs, only 11 of those are produced in the liver. The remaining amino
acids must come from protein sources. If the consumption of grain and vegetables continues to occur
together complete protein will continue to be part of a healthy diet.
Macronutrient Intake Ranges
To maintain optimal health through a balanced diet it is important to keep the intake of macronutrients
within the recommended ranges. The effects of eating too many macronutrients or not enough can
cause under nourishment or over nourishment. Over nutrition occurs when long term human energy
intake exceeds energy expended on basal metabolism, digestion, work and leisure (Huffman,
Huffman, Rickertsen, Tegene, 2010, p. 5). Over nutrition of any nutrient in some instances can create
toxicity in the human body that may result in future morbidity. The macronutrient intake during the 3
day diet ranges both inside and outside of the

Coach Ken Carter s Coach Carter
Coach Carter, an inspiring movie directed by Thomas Carter that told the story of a real life high
school basketball coach, was filled with unique and intriguing characters that underwent a
heartwarming growth throughout the movie. Coach Ken Carter, the main character, was the one that
helped the team evolve by being demanding, fun and, most importantly, by showing a strong sense of
leadership. It was through Ken Carter s actions and words that we were able to see that he was made
to coach the players and how much the team meant to him.
Firstly, Coach Carter was capable of being exceedingly demanding, whether it was with the boys of
the basketball team or with his own son when they were at home. It was easy to understand how much
he pushed te basketball players when he said: Average is juste not good enough. Period! (??:??), which
meant that he wanted the team to be the best. It was also evident that he asked for a lot when he
demanded that his players maintained a grade point average of 2.3 or greater, instead of the 2.1 they
were normally required to have. He also asked the team to wear ties when there were games, made
them do a lot of suicides and push ups, and asked them to call each others sir . Although the Coach s
requests may have been annoying to the players, it was obvious that, in the long run, Ken really only
wanted the best for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when Lyle, one of the team member, said he wasn t a sir, Coach Carter responded: Oh,
well, are you a madam? (10:15), which made the boys laugh. In addition, he used girls name from his
past, like his sister Diane or his childhood sweetheart Delilah, to teach some game strategy. The Coach
s humor motivated the team and made the practices more entertaining. With his retort and his funny
side, Ken Carter really knew how to make basketball be a little more

D G Gang Rape Advert
Television commercials or print ads are often developed that rely on unusual creative tactics and have
very little relevance to the product or service being advertised. Creative personnel in agencies defend
the use of these ads by noting that they are novel and provide a way to break through the high level of
clutter on television and in magazines. Evaluate the pros and cons of this argument. Find an example
of a television commercial or print ad that takes an unusual creative approach and discuss whether you
feel it is effective or ineffective.

An affective IMC strategy implies thorough understanding of their customers and the identification of
the market (demographic) since a product cannot broadly apply to all consumers. D G are targeting
young men teenagers, middle and upper class professionals, metrosexual couples and people that are
employed in artistic and innovative industries such as interior designers.
Why should these categories buy D G products? What is the perceived value customers gain when
purchasing D G products? Marketers are aware that some teenagers and young men find it difficult to
socialize with women. This advert is informing this category that with D G products socializing with
women becomes an easy task (Women will fall for you!).
The black box at the background and the white opening symbolize their liberal and rebellious attitude.
They are challenging the viewers to think outside the box (lateral thinking black box). They are
provoking the viewer to reflect and dig deeper, to search for the connotative meanings behind the rape
scene. The background portraying the clouds gives the notion of paradise and transmits the feeling
that the woman is giving consent. In other words they are saying that this is not rape but a heavenly
experience. This idea might appeal to metrosexual couples. D G is making a statement that they cater
for people who are open minded (white opening).
One might argue that the idea behind using these images

Analyzing Eminem s Song Rap God
Rap God is a song by Eminem. The text type is therefore lyrics. The lyrics target the listeners of this
song. Considering the fact that the lyrics are in English and Eminem being an American artist, the
primary audience would be hip hop/rap listeners from the US aged 14 to 30. Since Eminem wrote this
song to mock other rappers, the other rappers would be the secondary audience. Because Eminem is
such a well known artist, his audience can be expanded. Therefore, global English speaking hip
hop/rap listeners are the tertiary audience. The purpose of this song is to show everybody that he is the
best rapper on earth. He uses poetic communication to convey his message. He does that by means of
examples of his achievements in his life. Through these examples he is trying to show that he is the
best rapper in the world and that no other rapper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a metaphor. General Zod is a warlord of the planet Krypton in the Superman comics. General
Zod is a symbol for Eminem. He is basically telling people to kneel down before him because he is a
superhero. He continues the metaphor in the next line: So you be Thor and I ll be Odin, you rodent, I
m omnipotent. In Norse mythology Odin is a great person; he is almost comparable to God. Thor is
his son and therefore less powerful. This suggests that all the rappers can be good but he will always
be more superior. This sentiment is accentuated by the words rodent and omnipotent . All the rappers
are rodents. Rodents are mammals descendent from Rodentia such as mice and rats. Here it becomes
clear that Eminem looks down to the other rappers because is indirectly calling them rats. He himself
is omnipotent meaning he is the most powerful of all. In addition, when he raps this part of the song,
he puts emphasis on the syllable po (om ni PO tent) instead of om NI po tent. This makes the word
potent stand out, emphasizing his

The Rise of Consumer Culture Essay
Consumer culture has developed over the years for many different reasons such as the demise of the
social class and embourgeoisement which are both key factors in capitalism and has therefore led to
the argument that consumer society merely reflects the rise of capitalism which I plan to discuss
within this assignment. The origins of consumer culture have been discussed by Grant McCracken
(1998) who argues that there is minimal agreement in regards to the origins of consumer society.
McCracken took on the viewpoint that it would not be beneficial to look at a specific point in time in
which consumer culture arose but to primarily focus on patterns of changes within culture and how
these pattern of changes led to the reformation of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the works of Neil Mckendrick (1982) led him to the viewpoint that consumer culture began
in eighteenth century England with the commercialization of fashion which led to a mass change in
people s taste. So according to McKendrick the sudden change in people s taste in relation to fashion
during the eighteenth century meant that terminology such as style developed and represented the shift
in demand for items of clothing that was produced on a larger scale by new technology within the
textile industry and marketing to a mass audience through improvements in printing technology which
allowed and supported mass advertising to all members in society. The third was the development of
the department store. According to McCracken the Department store changed the nature of purchasing
activity because department stores essentially institutionalized consumption and changed the way in
how consumers were influenced and to how much influence they were subjected to in relation to
purchasing goods and services. From looking at the work of McCracken and McKendrick it is clear
that the development of the consumer society came from an increase in the supply and demand
mindset which is a key factor or element within a consumer society. Also the change in meaning in
relation to consumption is another example of the development of the consumer culture because the
term consumption was ignited through a new sense of

Compare And Contrast John Lewis
In March, Uncle Otis saw in John Lewis at a young age that he was different from the other kids in
town. Lewis was always eager to learn, and he showed this through his yearning to learn. Otis also
noticed that Lewis was different by the way he presented himself through his actions and his
appearance. The chickens his family raised intrigued Lewis as a child, and it was to where he
developed a relationship or bond with the chickens. He treated each chicken equally, which put him in
the mindset that everyone is to be treated equally. Lewis talks about how his education is what got him
engaged with the Civil Rights Movement. John Lewis had this passion to progress the Civil Rights
Movement into a larger movement, and Uncle Otis realized that

All Our Relations By Winona Ladukee Summary
All Our Relations by Winona LaDuke describes the neglect and unfair hardships that Native American
people have had to experience over time. LaDuke uses Aristotelian appeals such as logos and pathos
to tell how the white man disparaged these people. She spoke of Gail Small, a Montana State
University professor and a well known advocate for Native peoples. The way LaDuke tells Small s
story is perhaps the most and persuasive of all. Gail is the kind of woman you d want to watch your

when she is ready, she will send the opposition reeling. No matter how limited her weaponry, she is

Sociological Imagination In Research
So this question baffles me to the point that I couldn t even begin to answer it till now, though I
thought it was Thursday, not Friday....whoops. So this question is baffling probably because I don t see
how sociological imagination plays into this, as its very nature is scientific. So the BRCA1 and 2 gene
mutations were found, and scientist believe (I m guessing this is key to looking at it with sociological
imagination? When really what s to come is not sociological imagination so much as healthy
skepticism.) that they help prevent breast cancer by preventing the degradation of DNA, to which
cancer is a rapid and uncontrolled process involving the altering of cell DNA. So how could the gene

Keeping Up With The Brady Family Research Paper
Every family s values and beliefs are different from each others. Some things that are normal to one
family, can be something crazy to another. This all depends on how a person was raised, and what
values and roles were taught to them. Through the ups and the downs every family goes, people react
differently and their true nature comes out. An example of this is displayed in the two shows The
Brady Bunch and Keeping Up With The Kardashians. While they are both big families, they are very
different. Keeping Up With The Kardashians is an American reality TV show about a crazy and loud
blended family. This television show documents every part of their lives, from the silly random

they will suffer consequences for breaking the vase. Similarly, the Kardashian/Jenner clan put family

Bruce Jenner was transitioning into Caitlyn Jenner. While knowing that this will be a controversial

Analytical Essay The Skeleton Council by Katherine Leyton
The Skelton Council by Katherine Leyton was published in Volume 36 No. 4 of Contemporary Verse 2
during the spring of 2014. The poem opens on a house inhabited by a woman and a group of skeletons
that meet every evening for examination. One night, the woman blinks and sees a doppelganger of
herself in an empty room. The Skeleton Council by Katherine Leyton uses symbolism, imagery, and
style to express the oppressive nature of family secrets and their distortive and obsessive effects on the
narrator.
In The Skeleton Council, Leyton uses the skeletons as a symbol for the family secrets that plague the
narrator. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first half of the poem is comprised of a more complex syntax than the second half. The sentences
in the first half are longer, averaging 3 lines each and use a more descriptive diction with words such
as anxious (line 3), encouraging (line 5), and sideboards (line 2). This heavier style brings forward an
oppressive element as the meaning is trapped behind dense language. In the second half, the style
becomes more simplistic with sentences averaging 1 2 lines and word choice becoming more concise.
This change in style clearly presents the meaning in the second half taking away the oppressive
atmosphere and reinforcing the distortion of the narrators feelings.
In The Skeleton Council by Katherine Leyton, the symbolism of skeletons as well as the juxtaposition
that imagery and style form with the narrator s feelings are utilized throughout the poem. These
elements help to express the oppressive nature of un earthed secrets in the narrator s life and the
distortive and obsessive effects they have on

The Theory Of Crime And Crime
Introduction
The term of crime represent an unlawful act punished by the state. Crime is something that is against
the law. The common use of the term Crime makes it main to define the limitations which construct it
however, doing so is not simply a matter of common sense. There are a number of complex political
and economic forces which help to define crime in practice within a specific society. The most
commonly accepted definition of crime is an act that is capable of being followed by criminal
connections. (w.mccorkle, 1959, p. 46 to 48)
Review of the literature
Criminology focuses on the causes, incidences and control of individual and group criminal behaviour.
In criminology, there are many theories that focus on causal analysis of the crime. They are termed as
the crime causation theories. These theories aim at coming up with certain generalization as to be able
to explain the causal connection between the factors which may lubricate or lead to the existence of
crime in our society and crime itself. The debate on why people commit crime is a difficult one to
settle down. Causation theories in criminology are important as their understanding will help us to
 Understand the factors conducive to crime which will further lead us to
 Draft proficient crime prevention programmed
There are two main schools of thought within criminology, which developed in the middle of the 18th
century i.e. Classical and Chicago. There are however, many other theories in addition to

The Perception Of Social Behavior In Bartleby, The Scrivener
In Bartleby, The Scrivener, Bartleby serves as the main character with his distinct nature that everyone
is trying to decipher. Despite the attention around Bartleby, much of the story also revolves around the
narrator, the lawyer, who tells the story through his perspective; this implies that the lawyer s ideology
and perception of societal norms shape the interactions between the lawyer and Bartleby but also how
the story is told. Take for example, if the lawyer disregards Bartleby and fires him on the spot, this
story would have ended rather quickly and been much different than it actually is. With this said, the
lawyer s peculiar attraction to Bartleby s strange behavior can be explained by the lawyer s innate
ideas of social norms and instruction that stems from the behavior of the other scriveners and his own
experiences. Bartleby s behavior is considered a deviation from the norm because of the conforming
behaviors of the other scriveners, Turkey, Nippers and Ginger Nut. As scriveners, they listen to their
employer, the lawyer, and do as they were told. Their actions and reactions build the idea of society
and how a scrivener should behave. Turkey is a short, pursy Englishman that is not far from sixty
years old who drinks on the job which makes his work in the afternoon ineffective. Nippers is an
ambitious fellow whose impatience stems from the mundane duties of being a mere copyist and has

The Use Of Sea Aircraft Of The United States Winning World...
Ever since the first time Eugene Burton Ely completed the very first take off and landing from a
warship on the 18th of January, 1911, the future of the Navy had drastically changed. Little did Ely
know that in a mere fifty years Naval Aviation would have a major contribution to the United States
winning World War II. Captain Charles F. Pond exclaimed that Ely s feat was the most important
landing of a bird since the dove flew back to the ark. This quote by Captain Pond shows just how
important naval aviation was going to be in the future along with the Navy s need for vessel s to carry
these planes. The modern aircraft carriers of the Navy that we know now were vastly different from

This flight planted the importance of air power in the minds of naval thinkers, including Admiral
Bradley A. Fiske whom started looking for ways to make naval aircraft fighting machines. In the start
of World War I no nation had imagined a ship to where planed could land and take off from, such as
an aircraft carrier. The Naval Act of 1916 provided $500 million for items such as battleships, battle
cruisers, and submarines. There had been not one mention of funding naval air. However many
advancements came during World War I that would affect not just the United States Navy, but the rest
of the world for multiple generations to come. Great was leading the charge with having produced two
functioning aircraft carriers by 1918. There was no other nation that had even produced one yet.
However Japan was the first to build a aircraft carrier from the keel up, meaning that it was not a

and men, as well as 500 aircraft and 26 naval stations as World War I brought the United States Navy s

States Army Air Service, gave naval aviation a boost after conducting several tactics for bombing
ships. One of his major beliefs was that air power would one day shadow over the importance of

Golden Age Of Athens
Athens had what is known as its Golden Age between 480 and 430 BCE, and while it was a relatively
short period of time, it laid the foundations of western civilization.
As the Golden Age dawned, the autonomous poleis (city states) that had formed in the preceding two
to three centuries had set aside their differences and united to face the threat of invasion posed by the
Persian Empire. Though vastly outnumbered, the Greeks had finally defeated the Persian armies in
480 BCE. In the years of peace that followed, the Greeks made significant advances in art, literature,
science and philosophy, as pride and patriotism drove them to greater heights of creativity and in
Athens, an experiment with a new kind of government flourished under the statesman Pericles.
Prior to about 600 BCE, Athens had been an oligarchy, with an aristocratic minority controlling its
government. But enlightened Athenian leaders began instituting reforms to the city s government
between 600 and 500 BCE. Solon (c. 638 558 BCE) introduced a new code of laws that was less harsh
than Athens existing legal code (laid out by an Athenian statesman called Draco, hence the term
draconian to describe repressive laws) , and also set up a Popular Assembly of Citizens, although a
council of aristocrats still made the laws.
Cleisthenes (c. 570 508 BCE) known as the Father of Democracy expanded democracy still further,
creating a Council of 500, which consisted of 50 representatives from each Greek tribe. He

Analysis Of John Milton s The Fall Of Mankind Essay
The story of the fall of mankind, explored by John Milton in his epic Paradise Lost, has a way of
defining the roles of solitude through its characters, and through those definitions the effects solitude
has overall. The epic explores how the good and bad of what happens when one is left alone in their
thought, and deep into it, a question is asked by a main character, who can enjoy alone, or all
enjoying, what contentment find? (Book 8. Line 365 66). The way alone is defined is having no one
else present, on one s own ; taking or acting on its own ; and no one or nothing else besides, exclusive
of all other people or things . All three definitions will be explored, because in ways each definition
applies to more than one character, and some characters are defined by more than one definition of
alone. The way solitude is presented in Paradise Lost is that the time spent in solitude distances the
characters from each other, and allows for both good and evil to come from their time spent alone. The
main characters define solitude in their own way, some even use more definitions than others, and
they share definitions among each other. Starting with God who is never alone, although God
experiences solitude in the sense that God is one of a kind, which was an early sentiment shared with
Adam before Eve was created. Satan in solitude allows for him to concoct schemes to ruin God s
plans. Adam begins alone, and he does not like it, going as far as to fall along Eve because of

None of those pioneers, however, could have anticipated the future of their developing art form. None
could have foreseen that their informal rhythmic gatherings would eventually lead to nationally
recognized big bands with more than 20 musicians and celebrity band leaders. The trajectory of jazz
history is complex and rich, flowing from style to style and from region to region. Each step along the
way from the early brass bands to the bebop bands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Largely a remnant of military bands from the civil war, these provincial brass bands maintained a
public presence with parades, parties, celebrations, and funerals. Fusing traditional marches with the
developing ragtime styles and the cultural celebratory music of Congo Square, these bands started
infusing their music with blues notes, syncopated rhythms, and jazz like phrasing to get their
audiences dancing. The instrumentation of these brass bands emphasized brass instruments,
polyphonic musical style with a carrying tone, sectional playing within the band; many of these
characteristics translated into early jazz forms. Though the label suggests a band comprising solely
brass musicians, early Louisiana bands also included clarinet and saxophone. In the smaller bands
used for indoor performances, a smaller string band was used, composed of cornet, violin, guitar, bass,
and piano. These existing ensembles influenced the early jazz bands in New Orleans. Buddy Bolden s
band is widely considered the first true jazz band in New Orleans; according to a rare photograph from
1905, featured a pair of clarinets, cornet, valve trombone, guitar, and bass. Though the earliest bands
were never recorded, jazz historians such as William Schafer have speculated about the influence of
the brass band roots on the development of jazz style: black New Orleans brass band nurtured a

A Positive Outlook on a Divorce
Divorce is always a dreadful experience in a person s life, especially a child s . When parents divorce,
children are left hopeless and confused. A divorce can cause a child to have a variety of different
reactions. The effects on the child are much more important than the actual divorce. A divorce causes
the most damage to the children in the divorce. Each child sees a divorce differently, but most
divorces have a negative impact on the child s life. When I was a teengager, my parents spilt up. This
was an extremely hard time for me because I was so confused. Their divorce caused me to become
someone who I was not. After the divorce, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Divorce has negative effects on children because if children are left out from one of their parents, they
are more likely to have lower self esteem and psychological damage (Portnoy et al. 126). So, some
children of divorced parents have behavior problems, such as, depression, low self esteem actions and
poor school performance (Portnoy et al. 126). Children often feel abandoned and unwanted and some
of them also feel that they are responsible for their parents getting a divorce.
Children usually feel a lot of pain and emotional conflict during and after divorce. Whether they say it
or not, parents can never be sure how deeply children are affected by the divorce and the struggles
around it. After a divorce, the child is left with a bunch of responsibilities that they might not be able
to handle on their own. In a research conducted by Mavis E. Hetherington, found The play patterns of
children from divorced families, in comparison to those of children in non divorced families, were less
socially and cognitively mature when measured shortly after divorce (Hetherington). A divorce affects
a child in many different ways. The hardest responsibility the children have to go through is knowing
how to accept the circumstances taken by their parents. This was hard for me because I had no one to
talk to. I had to try and overcome my feeling of being sad and frustration without showing my peers. I
did not want my peers to see me as weak because of the situation I was

Leaders Like Martin Luther King, Jr.
Leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill and Hitler have one thing
in common; the word charisma is usually attached to them when people describe their characteristics
as a leader. Charisma defined by the online Merriam Webster Dictionary is a personal magic of
leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (as a political leader); a
special magnetic charm or appeal (Merriam Webster, 2014). The Oxford Dictionary states that
charisma is Compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others (Oxford University
Press, 2014).
Max Weber (known as the father of sociology) first introduced the concept of charisma with the
relationship to power and authority. He described charisma as a personality trait that sets her/him apart
from the masses. The charismatic individual is deemed to have supernatural, superhuman, or to
possess exceptional power that is not readily accessible to a regular person (Weber, 1947). Weber
further believed that charisma was the result of a social crisis and that these leaders have extraordinary
appeal because they ...emerge with the radical vision that provides the solution to the crisis (Barbuto,
1997, p. 689). For example, Martin Luther King, Jr. arose in the civil rights movement as a beacon of
change, equality and eventually for peace.
The power of the charismatic leader is often defined by how the followers perceive and act.

The Model-Minority Stereotypes
My friend is a Chinese Indonesian, and the first word or image that came to her mind when the word
minority was introduced, is culture. Being a Chinese that lives in Indonesia, she has the privileges of
learning both cultures. Both Indonesian and Chinese cultures, unfortunately, are very conservative,
which is why she said she had hard times accepting the freedom in the White culture. She did not see
her race as a minority, because she said, Asian kids are the smartest, it is just our accent that makes us
look dumb. She also did not receive any racial discrimination before. She supported immigration, and
her first image regarding immigration is of her grandparents as an immigrant because they move from
China to Indonesia permanently in search ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lee s reading on Behind the Model Minority Stereotypes: Voices of High and Low Achieving Asian
American Students, I learned that that people s identity has a lot to do with how they perceive
minority and immigration. There are many things that Lee described that I find very accurate to the
answers of my interviewees. Lee mentioned that Asian American students are viewed as a model
minority, and there is this model minority stereotype that causes many teachers to expect greater
things from their Asian students. However, I discovered something interesting, that two of my Asian
interviewees actually believed in the stereotype, and thought of themselves as academically superior.
This is very true for my Asian American friend who said that she felt extremely proud to have the
American English accent and White culture, and at the same time having the intelligence of the Asian
brain. This can be related to the reading when one of the Korean students responded, We are smarter. I
mean, I don t think it s a stereotype look at our report cards. We are better, and we have to show it
(417). However, this is different with my peer s interview on his Asian friend who hates Math and
denies the stereotypes. The Chinese Indonesian Asian whom I interviewed also felt intelligent
compared to other races, but she admitted that her accent prevents her from speaking her thoughts.
This is similar to Thai s case where he wanted to be a lawyer, but chose engineering because of her
accent. In addition, my Chinese Indonesian interview can support Ogbu s argument, that is also
present in Lee s reading, that voluntary minorities who usually migrate because of better education
and opportunities, tends to do better academically (414). However, this should not be applied to all
Asian voluntary minorities, as generalization should not be made. In addition, Lee also mentioned

How To Write An Essay About A Boy
The novel About A Boy, by Nick Hornby, depicts the life of a social outcast named Marcus, who is
sheltered from the outside world by his mother, and is just trying to be accepted by society. While on
the path to achieving this goal, Marcus obtains a newly found self knowledge, within himself, as a
direct result of the obstacles and conflicts he faces. There are many obstacles which exemplify how
Marcus obtains self knowledge about himself; one was between him and his mother, Fiona. Fiona was
very controlling over Marcus life, and the day to day activities in which he engaged. For instance, she
chose which type of music he will listen to and what style of clothing he will wear, these controlling

Also, the incident of Fiona s attempted suicide assisted Marcus in realizing that even though it may
seem to him that he is an alien to the everyday societal changes of the world, he understands that what
his mother had done for him in the past was beneficial to him now, because he apprehends that she
knows what is best for him and what will be most beneficial to him. Acquiring this newly found self
knowledge aids Marcus further on his path to self discovery. Another ordeal that is represented in the
novel About A Boy is the ongoing conflict between an individual and his peers. Similarly, this
continuous conflict is emphasized greatly within the relationship between Marcus and his fellow
classmates. As a result of Marcus veering off of the many, absurd rules of society, he is bullied by his
classmates and picked on everyday at school. Consequently, Marcus seeks refuge, from the abuse he
endures daily, by befriending fellow classmates Nicky and Mark. After Marcus does acquire a
friendship with these two boys, he is abandoned because he was also causing them to be bullied.
Marcus does however meet someone like him, who doesn t follow the laws set by society. Ellie
befriends Marcus after multiple encounters with him at the vending machine, as a result of this
friendship; Ellie and Marcus are arrested while on their way to Cambridge. Marcus then realizes that
his life cannot be based entirely on making impetuous decisions, but more so on analyzing the event

Before the opera started, I can hear the tuning sound of the orchestra, especially the sounds of the

Plastic Bags Should Be Substitued By a More...
1.0 Introduction Plastic bags are widely used as an easy medium for packaging items purchased from
groceries and shopping outlets. However, the irresponsible use of plastic bags has led to a number of
impacts; particularly towards the environment. The negative implications on the use of plastic bags
causes conflict where there is a need for the manufacture of plastic bags, especially the usual
conventional bags used for shopping, to be reduced or banned. This brings up questions on whether
the roles of these plastic bags should be substituted with a product that is more environmental friendly
such as reusable grocery bags as part of the solution for the banning of plastic bags. 2.0 Chemical

distributed to be coloured, labeled, cut and sealed into different kinds of plastic bags, which includes
being manufactured into shopping plastic bags.[3] 2.2 Background of Re usable Grocery Bags Re
usable grocery bags are considered as a substitute for plastic and paper bags. These grocery bags can

Eugenics Negatives
The goal of eugenics is to racially cleanse and create a population with pure blood excluding the
tainted blood of the unfit. Eugenics according to Calum MacKellar and Christopher Betchel, is a
general enhancement of humanity. Dorthy Porter in Darwinian Disease Archaeology states, Eugenics
is the study of human hereditary in order to manipulate human breeding to influence evolutionary
progress. Although there are advantages to eugenics, there are numerous more negatives. Eugenics can
not only cause a whole race to be destroyed but can also cause innocent lives to be killed because they
were not worth living. This has created world wide debates. Eugenics can be used to make a perfect
society; however, eugenics can lead to social discrimination, less diversity, and more disappointments
in children. Although proponents of eugenics believe it can create a more fit society, it can lead to
major inequalities. As explained by MacKellar and Betchel, Eugenic practices might also result in a
widened definition of disability and discrimination against the disabled. Eugenics can give parents an
opportunity to test if their child will have a specific genetic disease. This can lead to parents either
aborting the embryo or fetus and sometimes infanticide. By doing this Dorthy Porter, the author of
Darwinian Disease Archaeology states, [it is] freeing humanity of deviant DNA. Parents are doing
this, as George who wrote Ethics, Politics, and Genetic Knowledge puts it, for the

Eric Foner Epilogue Summary
Eric Foner s epilogue discusses the effects of reconstruction during, as well as after it occured. He
highlights many different main points as he weaves his way through the piece. One of these points is
the issue of race that sprung up during reconstruction. The South felt that the black s place was in the
fields while the North gave them the right to vote and made them a free man. This is discussed
through different accounts between some white men and some black men. The black men tell of the
time when their ancestors worked in government and were as equal as everyone else. The southern
whites speak of the North doing a horrible thing by letting the whites let the African Americans have
suffrage. The northern whites stand by their decision to give the blacks suffrage. ... Show more content

One of those is the blacks moving out west. When they went west things changed for them. They
experienced freedoms that they have never experienced before. Some of these freedoms were more
physical such as the blacks owning farms and to be whatever they wanted. Another section of these
freedoms was the freedom of getting away from the still racist South. ERic Foner talks about the racist
south in his epilogue. Continuing on with racism still prevalent in the South, the forming of white
supremacy organizations is another thing that connects this reading and our class discussions. The
KKK became very prominent during reconstruction and denied blacks some of their freedoms that
were given to them after the civil war ended. Another thing that connects his epilogue to what we talk
about in class is the blacks coming into politics during reconstruction. More blacks came into politics
after the civil war ended, even though many southeners disagreed with it. After the fall of
reconstruction, white southeners had a role in changing the role of blacks in politics by progressive
legislation to change the racial matters in the

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Diversity Plan Analysis At present, the diverse composition of
the United States Veteran population is disproportionate to that of the total United States populace
composition. To be sure, in an examination of one aspect of diversity (race and ethnicity), the
contrasting data is compelling. According to the Pew Research Center (PRC), the percentage of
racially diverse population in the United States is 36% and is on an upward trajectory. In fact, by the
year 2065, our U.S. population will no longer have a dominant racial or ethnic group (2015). On the
contrary, according to the National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics (NCVAS), the current
percentage of racially diverse veterans is approximately 20% and will eventually reach 36%, though
not until after 2040 (2010). As such, if proactive measures are not immediately put into action to
address this latency, veteran diversity will not achieve parity as it s significantly lagging behind the
racially diverse levels of the nation (refer to Appendices C and D respectively, for PRC and NCVAS

Discovering Mortality in Once More to the Lake Essay
Discovering Mortality in Once More to the Lake
E. B. White s story Once More to the Lake is about a man who revisits a lake from his childhood to
discover that his life has lost placidity. The man remembers his childhood as he remembers the lake;
peaceful and still. Spending time at the lake as an adult has made the man realize that his life has
become unsettling and restless, like the tides of the ocean. Having brought his son to this place of the
past with him, the man makes inevitable comparisons between his own son and his childhood self, and
between himself as an adult and the way he remembers his father from his childhood perspective. The

I would be in the middle of some simple act, I would be picking up a bait box or laying down a table
fork, or I would be saying something and suddenly it would be not I but my father who was saying the
words or making the gesture (White 151).
When the man lay in bed early one morning, he heard his son sneak out to take a canoe out on the
lake, just as he used to do when he was a child. By living a dual existence the man could see from two
perspectives; his son sneaking out early in the morning, his father lying in bed listening to his son
sneak out. I began to sustain the illusion that he was I, and therefore, by simple transposition, that I
was my father (White 151). The man s alternate ways of viewing these events convinced him that he
was becoming his father.
This thought eventually leads to the man s realization that he will die someday, just as his father did. A
thunderstorm came over the lake one day when the man was a child. He remembered swimming in the
lake just after the storm passed, but while rain was still coming down. Just like the scene from his
childhood, another thunderstorm came over the lake, only instead of swimming in the lake with the
others, the man merely watched his son put on his bathing suit.

associating himself with Jabez Stone.
One man cried out, quot;Vote the Whig ticket! quot; and another, quot;Hurray for Daniel Webster!
quot; Of course, political disfavor was also shown, as Scratch (the devil) portreyed himself as a lawyer

done this because of the dessolite land he had to farm, it was entirely baren, and had an abundance of

Jabez had become state senator, married a wonderful woman, and had friends in high places. But it did

Germany And Its Impact On The United States Essay
In the last few centuries, Europe has experienced major changes both in its population makeup and
number. Be that as it may, in the last two decades, it has been faced with an unprecedented decline in
population growth while struggling with the issue of an aging population. Indeed, from Helsinki to
Lisbon, the birth rate has fallen dramatically in recent years. It has fallen so much so that most
countries have put together some form of policies to help mitigate what is perceived as a serious
demographic crisis in european capitals. Those policies have yielded different results. While some
countries like France are now experiencing a slow growth rate as a result of those policies, others in
the likes of Germany are forced to still deal with an ever declining population. In this paper, I will be
analyzing, comparing, and contrasting the policies in both countries.
Since the end of the second world war, Germany has had undeniable economic performances. Unlike
its european counterparts, It has extremely low unemployment, record trade surpluses and a healthy
public accounts. However, the fact remains that the long term outlook of its population is less positive
as its population continues to decline while the portion of the its aging population surpases the
younger part. Demographic trends in Germany and France appear to be divergent. The two countries
seem to be in a radically different situations. Germany has a population of 82,175,684 inhabitants.

The Golden Legend By Nadeem Aslam
The novel The Golden Legend by Nadeem Aslam is one filled with many thought provoking scenes.
The novel follows the misfortune that surrounds Nargis and her friends and family. From these events
I found that religious intolerance was one of the main driving forces behind why the events occurred.
Religious intolerance is when a religious group refuses to tolerate practices or beliefs based on
religious grounds. Throughout the novel there are many references to both Christian and Islamic
prejudices and intolerance towards the other religion. In Pakistan, 97% of the population are Muslim
with the remaining 3% being comprised of other religions including Christianity and Judaism;
contrastingly in the United States, 1% of the population is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aslam uses the characters in The Golden Legend to depict a Muslim society where there is peace,
while still displaying the underlying current of religious domination which controls the Islamic
society. Lily and Helen are targeted and receive little respect simply for being Christian. Nargis is
treated to the same hostility, although not to the same extent, because she has befriended and supports
them. This hostility is a catalyst to Nargis, Helen and Imran s
Lisa Curtis (2016) writes about Pakistan s history with regard to religious minorities. She mentions the
drive behind creating a true Islamic state and how this has affected the treatment of religious
minorities. Curtis describes the 1980s as a key period in the establishment of the discord between
Pakistan s Muslims and the country s religious minorities, such as Christians. With the tightening of
blasphemy laws in this period by Zia ul Haq more in a push towards having a single religion country,
resulted in an imbalance of rights between Pakistan s religions. Curtis states that blasphemy
allegations were often fabricated, and still are today, in an attempt to intimidate minorities. Blasphemy
laws are very vague with little detail about what a violation entails. But the part of the laws that is
most related to intolerance is that there is no requirement of evidence for the charge of blasphemy.
This results in many innocent people being accused of blasphemy simply for their religion. In The

Essay Comparing Beowulf And Obama
What Characteristics do you think about when you describe a hero? Usually people think about
selflessness, Bravery, and Confidence. A person doesn t have to have superpowers, super strength, or
the ability to fly to be a hero. One Modern day hero is President Barack Obama the 44th President of
America and also the first African American President. Like President Obama, Beowulf Leader of the
Geat warriors he is headsmart and a strong leader. Although The two heros Live in two different time
periods and only on is a warrior. Beowulf and President Obama are both Courageous. Both Beowulf
and President Obama are heros of their eras. The birth of Beowulf s epic after the fall of the western
Roman Empire to Germanic tribes in the 5th century AD , Europe entered a chaotic period.[page.31]
During this time period Europe needed a strong warrior, and Beowulf rose to the Occasion. Before
President Obama was elected as President in 2008 America was in a lot of dept and the unemployment

Both Beowulf and President Obama are courageous in many ways. Beowulf deplays countless acts of
being courageous throughout the whole poem. His first act of courage was when he travel to Harot to
fight Grendel and his mother. He leaped into the lake, would not wait for anyone s answer.[450] He
didn t have to do that he could have not helped or ran away when attacked like a coward like his
soldiers. Much like Beowulf President Obama showed countless acts of courage throughout his
presidency. He didn t have to go against the odds and run for president but he did. He also didn t have
to openly support gay marriage and Remove the don t ask don t tell act in the Military. Beowulf
showed more acts of courage when he fought a dragon at 70 years old. I ve never known fear, as a
youth I fought in endless battles. I am old now but I will still fight again.[7 9] Even though he was
killed because of it he showed no

A Gaseous Substance
PVD is similar to CVD but the plasma is induced from solid material through ionisation of a gaseous
substance (sputtering) or through evaporation. Processing is done in a vacuum, where the deposition
material is excited with plasma to form vapour. Reactive gas is then introduced which reacts with the
vapour and the resulting compound adheres to the substrate. Parts undergo multiaxial rotation to
produce uniform coating thickness. This is a high temperature process, generally 400 800K, generally
used when electro plating is not viable.12 14 As with CVD, there are multiple process variants
including evaporation, ion plating and sputtering PVD.
Commonly, it is used to repair abrasively damaged components due to ease of implementation and
portability. Comparatively, this process uses low temperature, so no metallurgical substrate changes
occur, minimising dimensional changes due to material distortion. Disadvantages include the line of
sight nature of the process, only allowing coatings deposition on visible surfaces. This makes coating
small or deep cavities difficult and therefore other deposition techniques must be used.12,16 An
overview of these and additional surface processing techniques is given in Figure 4.5.
Many techniques exist to affect the surface properties of materials without altering chemical
composition, referred to as surface hardening. Commonly this is done by flame hardening, induction
hardening and shot peening. Additionally, surfaces can be hardened by

Assesment of The Genetics and Environment on the Intelligenece Through Twin Studies
The primary source scientific experiment to be analyzed for this paper is the A Twin Study into the
Genetic and Environmental Influences on Academic Performance in Science in nine year old Boys
and Girls (Haworth, Claire M.A., Philip Dale, and Robert Plomin. A Twin Study into the Genetic and
Environmental Influences on Academic Performance in Science in Nine Year Old Boys and Girls.
International journal of science education 30.8 (2008): 1003. PMC. Web. 27 Feb. 2015.).
There are many different variables one can look at in order to answer the question of how identical are
the identical twins. In this study intelligence is selected as a variable to be analyzed. The study
explores the impact of environment, genetics and sex on intelligence. What influences intelligence has
been studied as part of health and development for a long period of time? This study provides with
data on genetic factor and environment effect on development. Also it will help us understand how
identical twins can or cannot be different regardless of their similar genetic makeup.
With the introduction of the theory of evolution came the debate of nature vs nurture or genes vs
environment. According to theory of evolution, organisms adapt to the changes in their environment.
Indicating that the environment causes genetic changes ultimately changes in phenotype

Dextrose solution ( 2ml ) o Repeat the steps for the benedict and iodine test stated in part A of the
procedure. An experiment was run to discover what types of carbohydrates are in certain products
Monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharide. The purpose for known carbohydrates is to know
how to determine which sugar is either a monosaccharide, disaccharide, or polysaccharide by
combining the mixture with either benedict or iodine solution. The purpose for unknown substances is
to test different products to determine which kind of carbohydrates they contain. The experimental
data shows that after testing everyday foods, after soaking the food in water and adding benedict
solution and iodine solution data shows how the product reacted. If there was a change after adding
benedict solution for 5 minutes in the water bath then the food was made up of monosaccharides. If
there was an immediate, obvious change in the iodine, then the product was made of polysaccharide.
If nothing changed with either than the product had disaccharides. If there were multiple changes then
the product had a good mix of monosaccharides and polysaccharides. The result of this lab were that
monosaccharide reacts with benedict. Polysaccharide react with iodine. Lastly disaccharide reacted
with neither. Monosaccharide react with benedict because it turns orange when heated. Polysaccharide
react with iodine because it turns

Short Essay On Vampires
For over the years vampires have changed from the beginning of Dracula to more modern day
vampires like Twilight. Some people may even believe in them. So, which is realistic? How do they
keep changing over time? A vampire is a human that survives off human blood and has fangs. Now
vampires don t need to survive off human blood, and some of them even have some power where they
can see into the future and read minds. Nothing can kill a vampire unless you drive a stake through his
or her heart. Vampires can t come out in the day, but only at night. Now some of them come out in the
day. In the 15th century there was a Dracula. The myth was based off a guy named Vlad Tepes also
known as Vlad the Impaler. He follows some of the characteristics of ... Show more content on

Not only do they have every aspect other vampires do, but they have powers. They all don t have the
same power as the other. Edward can see what the humans and vampire are thinking about. His sister
has visions to where she can see what happens way before it does. These vampire are pale and they
sparkle in the sun. The boys are muscular and are what every girl would want. They have fast reflexes
and can run faster than a cheetah. Crucifixes and garlic do not bother these vampires. The only way to
kill these vampire are a stake through the heart. The Cullen s are the vampires who drink the blood of
animals not humans. They have to learn to control themselves around human blood. The other
vampires they do not get along with drink the blood from humans, and that is why they don t get
along. Edward falls in love with a girl named Bella. She ends up finding out what him and his family
really is, but loves him anyways. He cares about her and would never do anything to hurt her or her
family. For some reason Edward can not read Bella s mind. He also loves the scent of her. Not only is
there vampire in this book, but there are werewolves. Vampires do not get along with the werewolves.
Bella is the reason the vampires and werewolves got along. Later on in Bella and Edwards relationship
Bella ends up pregnant with Edwards baby. It is highly rare vampires can have babies. In order for
Bella and the baby to survive is to drink blood. Since the baby is a vampire it feeds off Bella from the
inside if it is hungry and needs blood. Bella becomes sick and her bones brake while she is pregnant.
When it s time for her to give birth the baby comes out alive and Bella then dies. Edward becomes
upset and bites

Freedom Vs. Enslavement
The topic I chose to examine in this novel in freedom vs enslavement. I chose this topic because in the
first two chapters it becomes evident that the people have no say in what they do, they are born with a
specific purpose. The Hatcheries and the idea of scientifically creating a baby in a factory and
conditioning them to act a certain way were introduced. The ten controllers have total freedom and
rule the world, but people in the Gamma, Beta, Delta, and Epsilon castes are slaves of the controllers,
conditioned into whatever person the controllers want or would benefit the economy. The Alphas have
a bit of freedom because they were conditioned to have a higher intellect which makes it hard for them
to accept all of the rules of society, but they were still made that way because the controllers wanted
them to be. My tentative thesis is: Enslavement from the beginning of your existence creates an
illusion of freedom. There are several supports for this thesis in the beginning of the novel when the
Hatcheries are explained. Some embryos are conditioned by going through hot tunnels followed by
cold tunnels paired with the discomfort of hard X rays to ensure that they grow up hating the cold.
These embryos are predestined to move to the tropics and work as miners or acetate silk spinners or
steel workers. The Delta babies are conditioned with loud noises and ... Show more content on

Everyone in the novel so far seems pretty content with the way things work and they are conditioned
to not rebel or question authority. I predict that there will be a person from the Alpha caste that will
stand up though and question the controllers processes. Another challenge I may face is trying to
follow and understand the society that they are living in where babies and embryos are produced in a
factory and can be conditioned into whatever the controller

Eating Disorder Treatment
The topic of which I would like to further discuss in my paper is that of eating disorders. The question
I would like to explore is: Should mental health and associated health professionals be allowed to
remove a patient s autonomy and control their diet as intervention for an eating disorder? I think that
this is a very debatable topic because both sides are equally important to the patient. It is important
that the patient be able to make their own decisions but it is equally important that the patient be safe
and their health protected. Both sides are also equally harmful if not considered for the patient. Is it
ethical to control a patient s diet in treatment of an eating disorder? Proponents answer yes, ... Show

Clarify Concepts
The major eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. There are also many
other eating disorders that are not always specified for people that do not fall into the other categories.
When treating these illnesses along with any other, medical staff work to protect a patient s autonomy
which is their right to make decisions about their own care. The problem is that eating disorders are
one of the hardest conditions to treat (Treasure, 2015). It has also been shown that over half of all
cases develop into severe illness for the patient and profoundly impact their physical and mental
health (Treasure, 2015).
Identify Possible Solutions to the Problem There are several possible solutions. Medical staff could
take dietary choices away from the patient and control their diet in order to help them recover from
their eating disorder. Another option is for medical staff to counsel the patient on dietary decisions but
allow the patient to remain in control of their choices. Yet another option may be a compromise
between the two, to control the diet of the patient while still allowing them to make decisions.
Gather Information
Professionals are trying to decide the best ways to treat eating disorders. A major complication in the
proposed treatment plan is ethics. A potential solution may be to take control away from the patient
but,

to contrast the youth and old age. Youth is represented by the recruit who does not know how to

  • 2. Recording Food Intake For Three Days Essay Making sure nutritional needs become a part of any lifestyle requires understanding exactly what the body needs to obtain and maintain optimal health. The recording food intake for three days provides many areas of nutrition that I am more aware of that before; this includes protein, carbohydrate, lipid, and fiber intake needs. Meeting the nutritional needs of the human body helps to ensure a healthy lifestyle that is free of disease and illness. Intake of Protein, Carbohydrates, and Lipids The 3 days diet from the iProfile data shows the majority of protein intake from meats, such as chicken and tuna. The data shows that protein is a nutrient in nearly every food source but is lower than four grams if it is not a meat product. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adding more servings of whole wheat grains, such as brown rice will assist in raising both the fiber and carbohydrate intake as well. The right combinations of food help to guarantee that the food an individual consumes is complete in its nutritional content of proteins, such as combining vegetables and grains that separately have incomplete proteins but together provide complete proteins (Grosvenor Smolin, 2012). Out of the 20 amino acids the human body needs, only 11 of those are produced in the liver. The remaining amino acids must come from protein sources. If the consumption of grain and vegetables continues to occur together complete protein will continue to be part of a healthy diet. Macronutrient Intake Ranges To maintain optimal health through a balanced diet it is important to keep the intake of macronutrients within the recommended ranges. The effects of eating too many macronutrients or not enough can cause under nourishment or over nourishment. Over nutrition occurs when long term human energy intake exceeds energy expended on basal metabolism, digestion, work and leisure (Huffman, Huffman, Rickertsen, Tegene, 2010, p. 5). Over nutrition of any nutrient in some instances can create toxicity in the human body that may result in future morbidity. The macronutrient intake during the 3 day diet ranges both inside and outside of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Coach Ken Carter s Coach Carter Coach Carter, an inspiring movie directed by Thomas Carter that told the story of a real life high school basketball coach, was filled with unique and intriguing characters that underwent a heartwarming growth throughout the movie. Coach Ken Carter, the main character, was the one that helped the team evolve by being demanding, fun and, most importantly, by showing a strong sense of leadership. It was through Ken Carter s actions and words that we were able to see that he was made to coach the players and how much the team meant to him. Firstly, Coach Carter was capable of being exceedingly demanding, whether it was with the boys of the basketball team or with his own son when they were at home. It was easy to understand how much he pushed te basketball players when he said: Average is juste not good enough. Period! (??:??), which meant that he wanted the team to be the best. It was also evident that he asked for a lot when he demanded that his players maintained a grade point average of 2.3 or greater, instead of the 2.1 they were normally required to have. He also asked the team to wear ties when there were games, made them do a lot of suicides and push ups, and asked them to call each others sir . Although the Coach s requests may have been annoying to the players, it was obvious that, in the long run, Ken really only wanted the best for them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, when Lyle, one of the team member, said he wasn t a sir, Coach Carter responded: Oh, well, are you a madam? (10:15), which made the boys laugh. In addition, he used girls name from his past, like his sister Diane or his childhood sweetheart Delilah, to teach some game strategy. The Coach s humor motivated the team and made the practices more entertaining. With his retort and his funny side, Ken Carter really knew how to make basketball be a little more ... • 4. D G Gang Rape Advert Television commercials or print ads are often developed that rely on unusual creative tactics and have very little relevance to the product or service being advertised. Creative personnel in agencies defend the use of these ads by noting that they are novel and provide a way to break through the high level of clutter on television and in magazines. Evaluate the pros and cons of this argument. Find an example of a television commercial or print ad that takes an unusual creative approach and discuss whether you feel it is effective or ineffective. Suicidal Advertising or not? An affective IMC strategy implies thorough understanding of their customers and the identification of the market (demographic) since a product cannot broadly apply to all consumers. D G are targeting young men teenagers, middle and upper class professionals, metrosexual couples and people that are employed in artistic and innovative industries such as interior designers. Why should these categories buy D G products? What is the perceived value customers gain when purchasing D G products? Marketers are aware that some teenagers and young men find it difficult to socialize with women. This advert is informing this category that with D G products socializing with women becomes an easy task (Women will fall for you!). The black box at the background and the white opening symbolize their liberal and rebellious attitude. They are challenging the viewers to think outside the box (lateral thinking black box). They are provoking the viewer to reflect and dig deeper, to search for the connotative meanings behind the rape scene. The background portraying the clouds gives the notion of paradise and transmits the feeling that the woman is giving consent. In other words they are saying that this is not rape but a heavenly experience. This idea might appeal to metrosexual couples. D G is making a statement that they cater for people who are open minded (white opening). One might argue that the idea behind using these images ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analyzing Eminem s Song Rap God Rap God is a song by Eminem. The text type is therefore lyrics. The lyrics target the listeners of this song. Considering the fact that the lyrics are in English and Eminem being an American artist, the primary audience would be hip hop/rap listeners from the US aged 14 to 30. Since Eminem wrote this song to mock other rappers, the other rappers would be the secondary audience. Because Eminem is such a well known artist, his audience can be expanded. Therefore, global English speaking hip hop/rap listeners are the tertiary audience. The purpose of this song is to show everybody that he is the best rapper on earth. He uses poetic communication to convey his message. He does that by means of examples of his achievements in his life. Through these examples he is trying to show that he is the best rapper in the world and that no other rapper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a metaphor. General Zod is a warlord of the planet Krypton in the Superman comics. General Zod is a symbol for Eminem. He is basically telling people to kneel down before him because he is a superhero. He continues the metaphor in the next line: So you be Thor and I ll be Odin, you rodent, I m omnipotent. In Norse mythology Odin is a great person; he is almost comparable to God. Thor is his son and therefore less powerful. This suggests that all the rappers can be good but he will always be more superior. This sentiment is accentuated by the words rodent and omnipotent . All the rappers are rodents. Rodents are mammals descendent from Rodentia such as mice and rats. Here it becomes clear that Eminem looks down to the other rappers because is indirectly calling them rats. He himself is omnipotent meaning he is the most powerful of all. In addition, when he raps this part of the song, he puts emphasis on the syllable po (om ni PO tent) instead of om NI po tent. This makes the word potent stand out, emphasizing his ... • 6. The Rise of Consumer Culture Essay Consumer culture has developed over the years for many different reasons such as the demise of the social class and embourgeoisement which are both key factors in capitalism and has therefore led to the argument that consumer society merely reflects the rise of capitalism which I plan to discuss within this assignment. The origins of consumer culture have been discussed by Grant McCracken (1998) who argues that there is minimal agreement in regards to the origins of consumer society. McCracken took on the viewpoint that it would not be beneficial to look at a specific point in time in which consumer culture arose but to primarily focus on patterns of changes within culture and how these pattern of changes led to the reformation of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the works of Neil Mckendrick (1982) led him to the viewpoint that consumer culture began in eighteenth century England with the commercialization of fashion which led to a mass change in people s taste. So according to McKendrick the sudden change in people s taste in relation to fashion during the eighteenth century meant that terminology such as style developed and represented the shift in demand for items of clothing that was produced on a larger scale by new technology within the textile industry and marketing to a mass audience through improvements in printing technology which allowed and supported mass advertising to all members in society. The third was the development of the department store. According to McCracken the Department store changed the nature of purchasing activity because department stores essentially institutionalized consumption and changed the way in how consumers were influenced and to how much influence they were subjected to in relation to purchasing goods and services. From looking at the work of McCracken and McKendrick it is clear that the development of the consumer society came from an increase in the supply and demand mindset which is a key factor or element within a consumer society. Also the change in meaning in relation to consumption is another example of the development of the consumer culture because the term consumption was ignited through a new sense of ... She spoke of Gail Small, a Montana State University professor and a well known advocate for Native peoples. The way LaDuke tells Small s story is perhaps the most and persuasive of all. Gail is the kind of woman you d want to watch your back at a meeting with dubious characters. She will watch it, and she ll guard your flank as well. The poem opens on a house inhabited by a woman and a group of skeletons that meet every evening for examination. One night, the woman blinks and sees a doppelganger of herself in an empty room. The first half of the poem is comprised of a more complex syntax than the second half. The sentences in the first half are longer, averaging 3 lines each and use a more descriptive diction with words such as anxious (line 3), encouraging (line 5), and sideboards (line 2). This heavier style brings forward an oppressive element as the meaning is trapped behind dense language. In the second half, the style becomes more simplistic with sentences averaging 1 2 lines and word choice becoming more concise. This change in style clearly presents the meaning in the second half taking away the oppressive atmosphere and reinforcing the distortion of the narrators feelings. In The Skeleton Council by Katherine Leyton, the symbolism of skeletons as well as the juxtaposition that imagery and style form with the narrator s feelings are utilized throughout the poem. The common use of the term Crime makes it main to define the limitations which construct it however, doing so is not simply a matter of common sense. There are a number of complex political and economic forces which help to define crime in practice within a specific society. The most commonly accepted definition of crime is an act that is capable of being followed by criminal connections. (w.mccorkle, 1959, p. 46 to 48) Review of the literature Criminology focuses on the causes, incidences and control of individual and group criminal behaviour. In criminology, there are many theories that focus on causal analysis of the crime. They are termed as the crime causation theories. • 16. The Perception Of Social Behavior In Bartleby, The Scrivener In Bartleby, The Scrivener, Bartleby serves as the main character with his distinct nature that everyone is trying to decipher. Despite the attention around Bartleby, much of the story also revolves around the narrator, the lawyer, who tells the story through his perspective; this implies that the lawyer s ideology and perception of societal norms shape the interactions between the lawyer and Bartleby but also how the story is told. Take for example, if the lawyer disregards Bartleby and fires him on the spot, this story would have ended rather quickly and been much different than it actually is. With this said, the lawyer s peculiar attraction to Bartleby s strange behavior can be explained by the lawyer s innate ideas of social norms and instruction that stems from the behavior of the other scriveners and his own experiences. Bartleby s behavior is considered a deviation from the norm because of the conforming behaviors of the other scriveners, Turkey, Nippers and Ginger Nut. As scriveners, they listen to their employer, the lawyer, and do as they were told. Their actions and reactions build the idea of society and how a scrivener should behave. Turkey is a short, pursy Englishman that is not far from sixty years old who drinks on the job which makes his work in the afternoon ineffective. Ever since the first time Eugene Burton Ely completed the very first take off and landing from a warship on the 18th of January, 1911, the future of the Navy had drastically changed. Little did Ely know that in a mere fifty years Naval Aviation would have a major contribution to the United States winning World War II. Captain Charles F. Pond exclaimed that Ely s feat was the most important landing of a bird since the dove flew back to the ark. In the start of World War I no nation had imagined a ship to where planed could land and take off from, such as an aircraft carrier. The Naval Act of 1916 provided $500 million for items such as battleships, battle cruisers, and submarines. There had been not one mention of funding naval air. However many advancements came during World War I that would affect not just the United States Navy, but the rest of the world for multiple generations to come. • 20. Golden Age Of Athens Athens had what is known as its Golden Age between 480 and 430 BCE, and while it was a relatively short period of time, it laid the foundations of western civilization. As the Golden Age dawned, the autonomous poleis (city states) that had formed in the preceding two to three centuries had set aside their differences and united to face the threat of invasion posed by the Persian Empire. Though vastly outnumbered, the Greeks had finally defeated the Persian armies in 480 BCE. In the years of peace that followed, the Greeks made significant advances in art, literature, science and philosophy, as pride and patriotism drove them to greater heights of creativity and in Athens, an experiment with a new kind of government flourished under the statesman Pericles. Prior to about 600 BCE, Athens had been an oligarchy, with an aristocratic minority controlling its government. But enlightened Athenian leaders began instituting reforms to the city s government between 600 and 500 BCE. Solon (c. 638 558 BCE) introduced a new code of laws that was less harsh than Athens existing legal code (laid out by an Athenian statesman called Draco, hence the term draconian to describe repressive laws) , and also set up a Popular Assembly of Citizens, although a council of aristocrats still made the laws. Cleisthenes (c. 570 508 BCE) known as the Father of Democracy expanded democracy still further, creating a Council of 500, which consisted of 50 representatives from each Greek tribe. He ... • 21. Analysis Of John Milton s The Fall Of Mankind Essay The story of the fall of mankind, explored by John Milton in his epic Paradise Lost, has a way of defining the roles of solitude through its characters, and through those definitions the effects solitude has overall. The epic explores how the good and bad of what happens when one is left alone in their thought, and deep into it, a question is asked by a main character, who can enjoy alone, or all enjoying, what contentment find? (Book 8. Line 365 66). The way alone is defined is having no one else present, on one s own ; taking or acting on its own ; and no one or nothing else besides, exclusive of all other people or things . All three definitions will be explored, because in ways each definition applies to more than one character, and some characters are defined by more than one definition of alone. The way solitude is presented in Paradise Lost is that the time spent in solitude distances the characters from each other, and allows for both good and evil to come from their time spent alone. The main characters define solitude in their own way, some even use more definitions than others, and they share definitions among each other. Starting with God who is never alone, although God experiences solitude in the sense that God is one of a kind, which was an early sentiment shared with Adam before Eve was created. Satan in solitude allows for him to concoct schemes to ruin God s plans. Adam begins alone, and he does not like it, going as far as to fall along Eve because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On these Sunday afternoons, a new form of music was born. Pioneered by those on the bottom of a society full of slavery and segregation, the origin of jazz was less a singular event than an evolving movement. None of those pioneers, however, could have anticipated the future of their developing art form. None could have foreseen that their informal rhythmic gatherings would eventually lead to nationally recognized big bands with more than 20 musicians and celebrity band leaders. Largely a remnant of military bands from the civil war, these provincial brass bands maintained a public presence with parades, parties, celebrations, and funerals. Fusing traditional marches with the developing ragtime styles and the cultural celebratory music of Congo Square, these bands started infusing their music with blues notes, syncopated rhythms, and jazz like phrasing to get their audiences dancing. The instrumentation of these brass bands emphasized brass instruments, polyphonic musical style with a carrying tone, sectional playing within the band; many of these characteristics translated into early jazz forms. Though the label suggests a band comprising solely brass musicians, early Louisiana bands also included clarinet and saxophone. In the smaller bands used for indoor performances, a smaller string band was used, composed of cornet, violin, guitar, bass, and piano. These existing ensembles influenced the early jazz bands in New Orleans. Buddy Bolden s band is widely considered the first true jazz band in New Orleans; according to a rare photograph from 1905, featured a pair of clarinets, cornet, valve trombone, guitar, and bass. Leaders Like Martin Luther King, Jr. Leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill and Hitler have one thing in common; the word charisma is usually attached to them when people describe their characteristics as a leader. Charisma defined by the online Merriam Webster Dictionary is a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (as a political leader); a special magnetic charm or appeal (Merriam Webster, 2014). The Oxford Dictionary states that charisma is Compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others (Oxford University Press, 2014). He described charisma as a personality trait that sets her/him apart from the masses. The charismatic individual is deemed to have supernatural, superhuman, or to possess exceptional power that is not readily accessible to a regular person (Weber, 1947). Weber further believed that charisma was the result of a social crisis and that these leaders have extraordinary appeal because they ...emerge with the radical vision that provides the solution to the crisis (Barbuto, 1997, p. 689). Lee mentioned that Asian American students are viewed as a model minority, and there is this model minority stereotype that causes many teachers to expect greater things from their Asian students. However, I discovered something interesting, that two of my Asian interviewees actually believed in the stereotype, and thought of themselves as academically superior. This is very true for my Asian American friend who said that she felt extremely proud to have the American English accent and White culture, and at the same time having the intelligence of the Asian brain. This can be related to the reading when one of the Korean students responded, We are smarter. I mean, I don t think it s a stereotype look at our report cards. Eugenics according to Calum MacKellar and Christopher Betchel, is a general enhancement of humanity. Dorthy Porter in Darwinian Disease Archaeology states, Eugenics is the study of human hereditary in order to manipulate human breeding to influence evolutionary progress. Although there are advantages to eugenics, there are numerous more negatives. Eugenics can not only cause a whole race to be destroyed but can also cause innocent lives to be killed because they were not worth living. This has created world wide debates. Eugenics can be used to make a perfect society; however, eugenics can lead to social discrimination, less diversity, and more disappointments in children. Although proponents of eugenics believe it can create a more fit society, it can lead to major inequalities. As explained by MacKellar and Betchel, Eugenic practices might also result in a widened definition of disability and discrimination against the disabled. Eugenics can give parents an opportunity to test if their child will have a specific genetic disease. This can lead to parents either aborting the embryo or fetus and sometimes infanticide. This is discussed through different accounts between some white men and some black men. The black men tell of the time when their ancestors worked in government and were as equal as everyone else. Continuing on with racism still prevalent in the South, the forming of white supremacy organizations is another thing that connects this reading and our class discussions. The KKK became very prominent during reconstruction and denied blacks some of their freedoms that were given to them after the civil war ended. • 37. Germany And Its Impact On The United States Essay In the last few centuries, Europe has experienced major changes both in its population makeup and number. Be that as it may, in the last two decades, it has been faced with an unprecedented decline in population growth while struggling with the issue of an aging population. Indeed, from Helsinki to Lisbon, the birth rate has fallen dramatically in recent years. It has fallen so much so that most countries have put together some form of policies to help mitigate what is perceived as a serious demographic crisis in european capitals. Those policies have yielded different results. While some countries like France are now experiencing a slow growth rate as a result of those policies, others in the likes of Germany are forced to still deal with an ever declining population. In this paper, I will be analyzing, comparing, and contrasting the policies in both countries. Since the end of the second world war, Germany has had undeniable economic performances. Unlike its european counterparts, It has extremely low unemployment, record trade surpluses and a healthy public accounts. However, the fact remains that the long term outlook of its population is less positive as its population continues to decline while the portion of the its aging population surpases the younger part. Demographic trends in Germany and France appear to be divergent. The two countries seem to be in a radically different situations. Germany has a population of 82,175,684 inhabitants. • 40. The Golden Legend By Nadeem Aslam The novel The Golden Legend by Nadeem Aslam is one filled with many thought provoking scenes. The novel follows the misfortune that surrounds Nargis and her friends and family. From these events I found that religious intolerance was one of the main driving forces behind why the events occurred. Religious intolerance is when a religious group refuses to tolerate practices or beliefs based on religious grounds. Throughout the novel there are many references to both Christian and Islamic prejudices and intolerance towards the other religion. In Pakistan, 97% of the population are Muslim with the remaining 3% being comprised of other religions including Christianity and Judaism; contrastingly in the United States, 1% of the population is ... Aslam uses the characters in The Golden Legend to depict a Muslim society where there is peace, while still displaying the underlying current of religious domination which controls the Islamic society. Lily and Helen are targeted and receive little respect simply for being Christian. Nargis is treated to the same hostility, although not to the same extent, because she has befriended and supports them. This hostility is a catalyst to Nargis, Helen and Imran s Lisa Curtis (2016) writes about Pakistan s history with regard to religious minorities. She mentions the drive behind creating a true Islamic state and how this has affected the treatment of religious minorities. Curtis describes the 1980s as a key period in the establishment of the discord between Pakistan s Muslims and the country s religious minorities, such as Christians. With the tightening of blasphemy laws in this period by Zia ul Haq more in a push towards having a single religion country, resulted in an imbalance of rights between Pakistan s religions. Curtis states that blasphemy allegations were often fabricated, and still are today, in an attempt to intimidate minorities. Blasphemy laws are very vague with little detail about what a violation entails. But the part of the laws that is most related to intolerance is that there is no requirement of evidence for the charge of blasphemy. This results in many innocent people being accused of blasphemy simply for their religion. In The Golden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. A Gaseous Substance PVD is similar to CVD but the plasma is induced from solid material through ionisation of a gaseous substance (sputtering) or through evaporation. Processing is done in a vacuum, where the deposition material is excited with plasma to form vapour. Reactive gas is then introduced which reacts with the vapour and the resulting compound adheres to the substrate. Parts undergo multiaxial rotation to produce uniform coating thickness. This is a high temperature process, generally 400 800K, generally used when electro plating is not viable.12 14 As with CVD, there are multiple process variants including evaporation, ion plating and sputtering PVD. Commonly, it is used to repair abrasively damaged components due to ease of implementation and portability. Comparatively, this process uses low temperature, so no metallurgical substrate changes occur, minimising dimensional changes due to material distortion. Disadvantages include the line of sight nature of the process, only allowing coatings deposition on visible surfaces. This makes coating small or deep cavities difficult and therefore other deposition techniques must be used.12,16 An overview of these and additional surface processing techniques is given in Figure 4.5. Many techniques exist to affect the surface properties of materials without altering chemical composition, referred to as surface hardening. Commonly this is done by flame hardening, induction hardening and shot peening. Additionally, surfaces can be hardened by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An experiment was run to discover what types of carbohydrates are in certain products Monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharide. The purpose for known carbohydrates is to know how to determine which sugar is either a monosaccharide, disaccharide, or polysaccharide by combining the mixture with either benedict or iodine solution. The purpose for unknown substances is to test different products to determine which kind of carbohydrates they contain. The experimental data shows that after testing everyday foods, after soaking the food in water and adding benedict solution and iodine solution data shows how the product reacted. If there was a change after adding benedict solution for 5 minutes in the water bath then the food was made up of monosaccharides. If there was an immediate, obvious change in the iodine, then the product was made of polysaccharide. If nothing changed with either than the product had disaccharides. If there were multiple changes then the product had a good mix of monosaccharides and polysaccharides. The result of this lab were that monosaccharide reacts with benedict. • 46. Freedom Vs. Enslavement The topic I chose to examine in this novel in freedom vs enslavement. I chose this topic because in the first two chapters it becomes evident that the people have no say in what they do, they are born with a specific purpose. The Hatcheries and the idea of scientifically creating a baby in a factory and conditioning them to act a certain way were introduced. The ten controllers have total freedom and rule the world, but people in the Gamma, Beta, Delta, and Epsilon castes are slaves of the controllers, conditioned into whatever person the controllers want or would benefit the economy. The Alphas have a bit of freedom because they were conditioned to have a higher intellect which makes it hard for them to accept all of the rules of society, but they were still made that way because the controllers wanted them to be. My tentative thesis is: Enslavement from the beginning of your existence creates an illusion of freedom. There are several supports for this thesis in the beginning of the novel when the Hatcheries are explained. Some embryos are conditioned by going through hot tunnels followed by cold tunnels paired with the discomfort of hard X rays to ensure that they grow up hating the cold. These embryos are predestined to move to the tropics and work as miners or acetate silk spinners or steel workers. The Delta babies are conditioned with loud noises and ... The question I would like to explore is: Should mental health and associated health professionals be allowed to remove a patient s autonomy and control their diet as intervention for an eating disorder? I think that this is a very debatable topic because both sides are equally important to the patient. It is important that the patient be able to make their own decisions but it is equally important that the patient be safe and their health protected. There are also many other eating disorders that are not always specified for people that do not fall into the other categories. When treating these illnesses along with any other, medical staff work to protect a patient s autonomy which is their right to make decisions about their own care. The problem is that eating disorders are one of the hardest conditions to treat (Treasure, 2015). It has also been shown that over half of all cases develop into severe illness for the patient and profoundly impact their physical and mental health (Treasure, 2015). Identify Possible Solutions to the Problem There are several possible solutions. Medical staff could take dietary choices away from the patient and control their diet in order to help them recover from their eating disorder. Another option is for medical staff to counsel the patient on dietary decisions but allow the patient to remain in control of their choices.
