The Fight Over Stalingrad During World War II
As much as it is glamorized on television and video games, people have forgotten the realities of war.
For in war, soldiers and civilians alike have suffered severely, and combat has put everyone who is
involved to a true test of character. An example of the tests of war is found by looking at Germany s
failed attack on the Russian city of Stalingrad during World War II. In the fight over Stalingrad, there
are examples that demonstrate the struggles that both Russian and German soldiers faced. The
Russians, for example, had to fortify themselves first in the buildings of Stalingrad then in the rubble
of these same buildings as they watched their city crumble. However, the Russian s determination and
reinforcements changed the tide of the battle, and the German forces ultimately found themselves
surrounded by the Russians without necessary war supplies The Russian s determination to hold
Stalingrad is probably best seen in this entry in the war diary of the Russian 62nd Army on October
14, 1942, 1220: radio message from unit of 416th Regiment from hexagonal block of flats:
Surrounded; have water and cartridges; will die rather than surrender (qtd. in The Long Agony, 883).
This determination is only further presented by this statement made by the commander of the 62nd
Army, Buildings split up enemy formations like breakwaters, forcing them to follow the line of the
streets. That is why we clung to the most solid

ABSTRACT:
This essay observes the life and art of Andrei Rublev, the most famous Russian iconographer, who is
canonized as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church. Since Rublev is considered to be one of the
most influential iconographers from orthodox world, it is also important to observe and analyze his
most famous work. This work is the icon Trinity , which is also considered to be one of the highest
achievements in Russian art. In this essay I will analyze this specific icon s ... Show more content on

As mentioned before, Rublev s art is influenced by Byzantine and Greek art, and one of the main
reasons for this was Theophanes the Greek, a famous iconographer who came to Russia at the end of
14th century. The relationship between Theophanes and his pupil Rublev was enigmatic, he invited
Rublev and to work with him on the Annunciation Cathedral. Rublev later instigated his own style of
painting. The reason for this was the appearance of Hesychast trend, which was not approved by
Hellenic, humanist believers, while Russians had no problem in understanding and following the
Hesychast, and practically that was the point of the creation of Andrei Rublev s

1. Objectives
There are some differences between the objectives of the structures of partnership and a corporation.
Firstly, intention of a partnership is making a profit. Partnership is the relation which maintain running
a business between persons with a same goal of profit and includes an incorporated limited
partnership. However, the relation between the person who was involved in the company or league is
either incorporated under the Corporations Law or abide by one of following laws the Act of
Parliament, letter patent or Royal Charter is not a partnership this Act meaning for. In terms of a
corporation, it is not only confined in its objectives of profit but also more than for profit. In addition,
it shows that a person who carry on business of a body corporate has more profit of who involved in

The Relationship Between Plato s Regimes And Current U.s....
Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government
The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central
government. It is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose
powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts. The
separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a
kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class
minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the current U.S.
government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four regime types of
Plato.
According to Socrates, in Timoracy, the spiritedness, which is the love of victory and honors, will be
predominant. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and trade; for its
rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for war. Timoracy
will be also governed in being afraid to appoint the wise as rulers, instead, selecting spirited and
simpler man, men naturally more directed to war than to peace (Plato 547e). Although they will desire
money, they will be niggardly of money since they cannot acquire money openly; therefore, they will
love to spend others money to fulfill their aspirations. Due to attach importance to physical training,

Ageism In Our Society
Ageism also known as age discrimination has an enormous part in our society today. Many people
have experienced discrimination against their age daily, even in schools and workplaces. Why is this
important? Ageism can relate to everyone in the society; managers, employees, teachers, police
officers, principles, etc. For example in a workplace, there are questions you are not allowed to ask
during an interview, to your employees and coworkers, etc. Managers can get in trouble for saying
stuff like you can t do this because your too young , forcing someone to retire due to their age, not
interviewing someone due to their age, As an employer, you cannot be denied a job, training or
promotion, or forced to retire, because of your age, etc.
If you are experiencing age discrimination against you, you can make a human rights complaint by
contacting the human rights tribunal of Ontario. The Ontario Human Rights Code protects people
from discrimination under the ground of age. The Code defines age as 18 years or older However,
persons age 16 or older are protected from discrimination in housing if they are not living with their
parents also you cannot refuse to rent to younger people because you assume they won t be good
tenants.
Why do we discriminate against young people and old people? We have a stereotype in our heads ...

Buying things can also be hard for younger people, buying a house, a car, electronics, etc. People will
judge you thinking that you will not able to afford the item. There are very few opportunities for
younger generations due to the fact that people are retiring later since our life expectancy is later, older
generations might need to find a job after they retire because they might need to pay for their kids if
they got fired or can t find a job due to age discrimination or paying back their kids education funds,
which means that the younger generation will have a hard time supporting the baby

Terri Schiavo Case
The case of Terri Schiavo is a landmark case that involved a fifteen year battle over whether or not to
provide life support for Terri Schiavo who was 26 years old when she collapsed in her bedroom in
February of 1990. According to Munson (2012), Terri Schiavo s husband Michael Schiavo, claimed to
have woken to the sound of a thud at approximately four a.m. and found Terri unconscious on the
floor. He called 911, but Terri had suffered cardiac arrest and by the time she was resuscitated she had
suffered irreversible brain damage.
Neurologists examined Terri and diagnosed her with irreversible brain damage caused by the lack of
oxygen during her cardiac arrest. The doctors eventually diagnosed Terri as being in a persistent

As a member of the Republican Party and presidential hopeful for 2016, Governor Bush was
apparently not going to miss this opportunity to gain favor with conservative voters. The American
Nurses Association summed it up well when they stated, It is unfortunate that Terri Schiavo has now
become the symbol of so many political agendas. (Blakeney, 2005)
From the utilitarian standpoint, the taxpayers of the State of Florida stood to expend an inordinate
amount resources to keep one person alive who by most accounts no longer had full moral standing.
The harsh reality of this situation is many taxpayers could have used the healthcare resources that
were expended on one person.
The disabled community voiced concerns that if Terri s artificial nutrition and hydration were removed
this would initiate a cascading disregard for disabled persons or others who are judged to have poor
quality of life. (Perry et al., 2005, p. 747). As Perry, Churchill, and Kirshner point out this is a gross
overgeneralization. Those individuals voicing concern with this issue likely do not understand the
differences between PVS and many other forms of disability. Stressing liberty as the fundamental
issue means precisely that individuals will be able to choose for themselves... (Perry et al., 2005, p.

many fell the only constant in Mesopotamia was war. All of the civilizations that lived in
Mesopotamia rose and fell like the sun.
Sargon the leader of the Akkadians, This man would climb up the ranks of the group until he was the

up with the Turtle Formation this was one of the most effective strategies at the time consisting of
shields in the front spears in the middle with the spears poking out and at the very back archers.

however, each has shown a great deal of resilience in recent times with reestablishing the corporations

Currently, the automotive industry within the United States is going through major changes and an in
depth overhaul. The demand for smaller more fuel efficient automobiles that has been brought on due
to ever increasing fuel costs is the driving factor for these changes of dynamics in production. The
continually rising fuel costs are not the only driving force in the changes of demand by the American
people. People are also much more environmentally friendly which has recently been a steering force
for American consumers away from the traditionally owned pick up trucks and sport utility vehicles.
American manufacturers have also been able to improve the market and its structure through
technology such as electric cars and hybrid technology, which are proving to be factors in the
changing and evolution of the automotive industry landscape (Wayland, 2013).

The PEACE and Cognitive Interviewing Models vs. the Reid...
Many of today s interrogation models being utilized in police investigations have an impact on false
confessions. The model that has been in the public eye recently is the social psychological process
model of interrogation known as the The Reid Technique. There are two alternatives used by the
police today to replace the Reid Technique, one is the PEACE Model and the other is Cognitive
Interviewing. These methods are not interrogation techniques like Reid but interview processes.
The Reid Technique is an interrogation process that consists of two parts, the interview and a nine step

This is known as a passive mood . (Jayne Buckley, 2004) Throughout this stage the suspect is on the
defensive and may withdraw and focus their thoughts on punishments. (Buckley, 2000)
The passive mood reached in step six is where the investigator may recognize that the suspect has
given up and is ready to confess. (Associates J. E., 2014) The suspect will appear less tense, defeated
and may even begin to cry. The investigators response to this passive mood is where stage six begins
by condensing their themes down to just one or two, and head into the next and last stage. The
investigator will remain in close proximity and start introducing the alternate questions. (Buckley,
2000)
Presenting an alternate form of questions to the suspect is the seventh step. The investigator will ask a
question with a positive and negative choice. Both choices usually result in the suspect admitting
some sort of guilt. An innocent suspect will listen to both choices and reject both of them. The
alternative should be followed up with a statement of support in which the interrogator tells the
suspect that they think it was done for a good reason. (Buckley, 2000)
Corroboration of the admission of guilt is stage eight of this technique. This is obtained by collecting
details of the offense from the suspect by using open ended questions. The interrogator moves from
the persuasion phase of questioning to a simpler

Cultural Prejudice In Canada
Prejudice comes in different shapes and sizes, so treatment of culture minorities differed with the
circumstances.
The culture, language, and opinions of the French population were widely disregarded by the English
speakers of Canada. This discrimination stemmed from the rivalry between the mother countries
France and England that transferred over to the colonies of Canada. Anything the one had, the other
wanted, so be it that the French and English s positions switched, the resulting discrimination would
be the same. However, be it with Britain in control, the English tried to use the influence of their
power to the best of their ability. The English felt the opposite forced their culture and language on to
them, so they thought it fair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I always assumed reading only meant picking up a book and reading the words on the page in order to

Personal Essay On Baking Literacy
Baking Literacy
My experience baking extends back to when I was four or five years old and I would help my mom
bake chocolate chip cookies. These cookies have always been a signature dish of my mother s and
they are delicious. A couple of years later I remember baking an apple crisp by myself while my mom
was making dinner but close at hand just in case I needed help. From these early days of baking, I
learned to follow a recipe with ease and bake almost anything I wanted to that our home kitchen and
kitchen aid mixer could handle. One story that truly demonstrates my ability to bake is the one I will
be recounting in this narrative. Because I have baked all my life I am literate when it comes to baking.
For many years both my sister and I have entered exhibits in the Dixie Classic Fair. 2015 in particular
is a year that stands out because of the pride I felt in my entry. That year I decided to bake a chocolate
pound cake. I received the recipe from my paternal grandmother, who is also adept in the kitchen. Her

as having a slight bounce when gently pressed. Finally, I arrived at the exhibit hall where I would turn
in my cake for judging. As the fluorescent lights gleamed overhead, I weaved through display cases
beginning to be filled with sewing projects, homemade preserves, and other baked goods. I had only
felt excited as I handed over my chocolate pound cake and wondered how I would

The Oppression Of Indigenous People In Canada
Due to disassociation, assimilation, oppression, systemic and systematic erasure and violence,
Indigenous peoples have been purposefully silenced at almost every moment of interaction with
Canada.
Many Indigenous peoples have been strategically silenced since birth. Their names were changed for
number tabulations, cultures were suppressed and languages were stolen from Indigenous children and
their future generations. These actions were sanctioned by the Catholic Church, manipulated by
political leaders and, ultimately, enforced by the government of Canada. The consequences of these
actions rippled through the institutions and cultivated into the consciousness of settler and colonial
populations. Indigenous children were subjected to an education which stripped them of their
identities and forced them into lower class, lower labour positions. Indigenous education was created
solely to meet the desired needs of subsistence of Euro Canadian peoples.
During the wars in which Canada participated, Indigenous peoples were rarely recognized for their
achievements or efforts and many deaths were purposefully not recorded. There were also hundreds ...

Seeing England For the First Time
On Seeing England for the First Time
The effect of imperialism on small colonies is sometimes intrusive and constrained. Jamaica Kincaid
devotes her essay, Seeing England for the First Time, to her profound mysticism she has towards
England as she grows up on the island of Antigua before it becomes an independent country. With
descriptive language, Kincaid reveals her frustration for England within the classroom and at her
home through use of imagery and satire. The earliest memories of England Kincaid has is when she
was in school as a child. Kincaid opens her essay with sarcasm by saying that England looks [gentle,

roots from seeing people be infatuated with England when in reality, England is invasive,
disrespectful, and mendacious. Although Kincaid sees England for the first time in the classroom,
English culture is all around her, even in her home. Each morning before she leaves for school,
Kincaid describes eating a breakfast of half a grapefruit, a bowl of oat porridge, bread and butter and a
slice of cheese, and a cup of cocoa . Even with the food she eats, Kincaid is showing how her life is
closely intertwined with the English lifestyle. The lengthy description of her typical morning meal
mocks the lavish English lifestyle and proves that her life is heavily influenced by English customs.

Narrative Essay About Lady Gaga
I am going to share an incredible, breathtaking day in my life.
Earlier this year I attended Lady Gaga s sold out show, The Joanne World Tour in Edmonton on
August 3rd It was her second show after it kicked off in Vancouver.
My friend Kylie and I woke up at 4:45am to get ready. We showered, put on makeup and got our
outfits ready. My outfit was made a week prior to the show.
A leather jacket hot glued with diamonds, jewels and rhinestones with a red cross painted in the
middle on the back a reference to her song Judas . The words Lady Gaga were glitter painted on the
top and bottom, and under it I wore a Lady Gaga shirt, the rest of the outfit, glitter leggings and the
boots bedazzled with rhinestones.
We were ready by 6am, we then drove to the Rogers Centre arena. When we arrived at the arena, we
were lost and did not know how to get into the building, we decided to message other fans who were
already inside on Instagram, they replied right away and said Go to the back and come up to the third
floor, by ticket sales by the time we found out where to go it was about 7:30 am. We went up to the

Symbolism In Keats s Ode To A Nightingale
Torn between two worlds, Keats battled his own personal life between his engagement to Fanny
Browne and the death of his brother. Also the poem was written approximately two years before he
died. These life changing events resulted in Keats writing one of his most famous poems, Ode to a
Nightingale. This poem is an escape from reality in trying to find a happy place such as the singing of
the Nightingale (Fiero 9). The poem is a parallel to Keats thoughts and desires, which are directly
connected to his reasoning for writing the poem, its connections to understanding nature as well as its
reflection of the human consciousness and natural environment.
Ironically the bird in the poem is used as a symbol, whereas the bird that inspired the poem was a real
living creature. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the themes in Keats poem Ode to a Nightingale is reality verses imaginary (Melani). In the
beginning of the poem, the bird is tangible, allowing Keats to hear its pleasant song. As the poem
develops the bird becomes a symbol. The bird can represent joy, self expressions and nature s music.
One concern in the poem is Keats analysis on the divided nature of humans. This includes mixed
feelings of pain verses happiness, feeling verses dullness, real verses ideal and mortal verses immortal.
As the poem continues to build on emotion based on human nature, the reader is able to draw
conclusions and different abstractions (Melani). In this poem there is an overpowering theme directly
related to romanticism, the bird representing nature and immortality while on the flip side Keats
representing a worldly state of mind trying to capture the essence of the nightingale by listening to the
song. Art is more than a response to the human experience of love and nature; it is the transmuted
product of the imagination, a higher form of nature that triumphantly outreaches the mortal lifespan

Athletic Success as a Teenager Owens enrolled in Cleveland s Fairmount Junior High School around
1927 and quickly attracted the attention of a mentor who would prove crucial in his future athletic
success. Charles Riley worked at the school as a physical education teacher and track and field coach
and immediately realized that Owens was a naturally gifted athlete who had not yet taken up serious
training. Riley started a rigorous training program for Owens in special morning sessions before
school. Within a year, Owens was running the 100 yard dash in eleven seconds and in 1928 he set two
world records for his age group in the high jump, at six feet, and the long jump, at twenty two feet,
eleven and three quarters inches. Under Riley s instruction to run as though the track were on fire,
Owens also improved his times on the track. Of the seventy nine races he entered in high school,
Owens won seventy five of them. Owens also formed a warm personal relationship off the track with
Riley, who continued to coach him after he entered East Technical High School in 1930. After Henry
Owens suffered a traffic accident in 1929 and experienced extended periods of unemployment in the
Great Depression, Riley s role as a surrogate father was especially important to the young athlete.

Elements Of Horror Stories
Hattie Sparks
Sharon A. Russell explains to readers how to decipher horror stories by saying, Some students think
that the best way to examine it is to deal with the way horror fiction is organized or structured.
Examining the organization of a horror story shows that it shared certain traits with other types of
fiction. . She says this in her article What is a Horror Story . Horror fiction needs to be in a certain
order, structured, and have specific horror traits. Some essential traits to horror she later talks about,
are supernatural elements, eerie settings, and suspense. When these elements interact horror is created.
The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs is a horror story because, of the supernatural paw, the setting, and
suspense of the story. One important element of horror is a supernatural trait, which The Monkey s
Paw does indeed have. The main supernatural trait would be the paw itself. The history of the paw is
stated, by Sergeant Major Morris, to have had a spell placed on it by a fakir. Sergeant Morris, also told
the readers how all the previous six wishes were answered. Multiple wishes answered using the same
process, could not be coincidence. Another reason that this story fits into the supernatural trait is how
Mr. White describes his experience using the paw. He states, it twisted in my hand like a snake (pg
110). Only something supernatural would do this. Lastly, it is not simply a coincidence that when Mr.
White wishes for 200 pounds, that it

not have enough money to get the water they need, so they use natural reservoir to water their crops.
Nonetheless, this natural resouces are being used by many farmers and the water is running out and
reservoirs no longer use as a source of water. The insifcient amount of water leads to insufficient
amount if crop the farms can plant and produce. For those farmers who rely on their crops as their
main source of food are now starving and do not have money to provide their family with anything.
Farmers at this point are waiting for a rainfall; a natural source that would help them start all over and

Two Negative Impacts Of Transnational Corporations On...
Explain TWO negative impacts of transnational corporations on developing countries.
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to explain why the impacts of transnational corporations on developing
countries are important to understand. Transnational corporations are large companies that have a head
office in one country and subsidiary offices in other countries. They affect all countries; however, they
affect developing countries on a much larger and damaging level. This is because developing countries
are poorer, many people have a lower standard of living, and the resources available and the amount to
hire an employee is significantly lower that one of a developed country. The two negative impacts
caused by transnational corporations that will be discussed in this report are sweatshops and life
expectancy. These impacts are important to understand because they educate us on how the world of
trade is influenced by sweatshops, and how sweatshops effect an individual s life.
Globalisation
The impacts of globalisation are happening around us every day, with or without us realising it.
Globalisation is the breakdown of traditional barriers between nations, and a trend towards faster and
cheaper movement around the world of people, goods, money and information.
As shown in the figure, many different factors are impacted and impact globalisation. Economic
globalisation consists of the growth and development of international trade. This is the process of

Bang Bang!! You re dead, Charlie says to Andrew as they are watching Cops on the television. NO!

approximately 22,000 hours watching television, and about 200,000 violent acts (Gunter 23). Violence

According to Singer, Acquiring new aggressive behavioral patterns is one of the first indications that
violent programs can influence a child to learn how to become more aggressive (70). Second, Singer
noted that violent programs can provide indications for the most functional behaviors in a particular
situation (70). If people have the wrong motives, then they are punished, but if people have the right
motives, they are rewarded. Another form is drawing attention, Aggressive children are more inclined
to watch violent programs (Van Der Voort 46). Once children watch a violent program, children are
led to be more aggressive and therefore want to keep watching aggressive shows. Finally, the change
in attitude towards violence in children are as researchers say that the attitudes of violence decreases
as the child gets more and more involved in violent shows (Gunter 48). As children get older and
older, their views of violence change for the worse; they no longer see how hurting someone on
purpose is wrong. Over time, children not only become even more violent but also are increasingly
getting more attached to the violence portrayed on television.
There are several ways of proving that viewing violent shows can affect aggression in young children.
The first way is through direct effect. This is the result of actually doing harm to self or others,

Economic uncertainty, coupled with the retirement of the baby boomers, skyrocketing medical costs,

this, by enacting a policy beginning in 2017 and ending in 2036, to gradually increase the Social

Even though, the increase is small employees and employers are going to feel it in theirs pockets and
checkbooks; leading towards an already declining labor force and corporation downsize. The tax
increase is a bad idea as it can discourage those looking for employment and those trying to retire.
While tax increases are wonderful long term, the short term effects seem too risky to chance during
the tough economic situation we are currently involved in. Overall, the proposals both seem like bad
policies. Our young workers deserve to have the long term benefits they are both working and paying
for now, readily available at retirement and without proper reform that may not come to fruition.
Although, compromise is needed to close the gap and create revenue for Social Security for future
generations, how can one morally stand by and take from another because of their salary or increase
their taxes and employer payments. Collectively, our lawmakers and economist need to come together
and think or the people rather than the numbers and focus on our morals, and most importantly to help
one another.

As a whole the Harlem Renaissance ended slowly from the early 30s to the early 40s. This was due to
the Great Depression and the world s attention shifting towards the war in Europe. The Harlem

expressed their culture and their pride for being black. The effect that the Harlem Renaissance had
was unique to the 1920s because of the proximity to WWI. After the war the black community wanted
recognition for their bravery and valor overseas and at home. Another factor that helped with the
Harlem renaissance was Prohibition. Prohibition had helped because people needed entertainment
when they drank illegally. Also people were tired of the old was which was also seen in the new found
power that women had grasped in society. Recently before this there was Red Summer where lots of
people had died during the race riots that broke out all across the country. In American history the

Vandalism In The Destructors
Until age twenty four, part of the human brain responsible for right or wrong decisions is not fully
developed. For example, in 2013 a young man by the name of Brandon Maxwell was charged with 35
felony misdemeanors for participating in the shooting of Florence with slingshots and marbles. With
the help of his lawyer, Brandon was able to avoid being tried as an adult, and he was sentenced to six
months of probation as well as one hundred hours of community service. In the story The Destructors

Brandon s case, it as a nuisance punishable by law. Greene notes that destruction after all is creation

The Effects Of Outdoor Sports Lighting On The Community
Can something as common as lighting cause enough contention to divide a community? In New
Providence the answer is a resounding yes. Without land available for the opening of new athletic
fields, there simply are not enough sports fields to meet the needs of the town s population. In an
effort to solve this dilemma, the proposal has been made by the New Providence Partnership for
Recreation (NPPR) to install lighting in Lieder Field. The benefits to the community include an
increase in hours each day the field may be used at no expense to the taxpayer. Yet, others in the
community believe that outdoor sports lighting would have a negative impact on the quality of life in
the community, be too costly and would diminish the property value of nearby homes. While athletic
field lights have been used in southern New Jersey without these negative impacts that part of the state
is significantly more rural than densely populated New Providence. Is athletic field lighting beneficial
for the town of New Providence? While there are always benefits as well as negative consequences for
community decisions, the benefits of installing athletic field lighting far outweigh the negative
ramifications.
Availability of Fields for Residents Use There is a growing need in the community for athletic fields,
yet there is not land available to build additional facilities. The NPPR believes installing Lieder Field

The Policy Of Appeasement During The Outbreak Of War Essay
Evaluate the view that the policy of appeasement played a major role in the outbreak of war in Europe
in 1939. After the mass amount of life lost in World War One, many countries, through the League of
Nations, opted to prevent future conflict. Due to the failure collective security, the idea that countries
could discourage aggression, appeasement became a policy adopted in the 1930s, especially by the
British. Appeasement was developed in the belief that countries such as Germany were unfairly
treated in the Treaty of Versailles. It was used in hope to prevent Germany and Italy going to war.
Appeasement was seen to be magnanimous, good business, idealistic and a form of security. The
policy of appeasement was widely pursued by Britain and France in the 1930s, refers to attempting to
satisfy Germany s demands by negotiation and compromise in order to avoid another war. However
due to its failure, the policy of appeasement, to a large extent was responsible for the outbreak of war
in 1939. It is clear that if the Western Powers had retaliated against Hitler, war could have been

Summary Of The Urban Legend Of Fairfax County
During the summer of 2011, I went to visit my cousins that lived in Fairfax County. One night there
was a tornado warning, and the strong winds and rain had cut off all the power to the house. All we
had to that night was tell stories, and one tale brought up was about the county we were in. While the
urban legend intrigued me, you could easily identify the overarching message of the tale which was to
be cautious at night. According to the legend, in 1904 an insane asylum was being shut down per
request from residents of Fairfax County. During the transfer there was an accident allowing the
inmates to escape into a forest. While some were detained, others were killed because of their
hostility. Police officers were able to find all but two people, Marcus and Douglas that were still
missing. Local police officers followed a trail of dead rabbits in the forest that lead them to a bridge.
Hanging from the bridge was Marcus with a note attached to his foot that read: you ll never find the
bunny man . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s about a very troubled man that attacking innocent people. The urban legend first began to gain
traction in the 1970s. What it tells us about the time in which it originated is how mental health was
perceived. Upon hearing the story, I was frightened which is what it aimed to do. The story was
created to scare us, but why does it also evoke fear of those with mental illness as well? The legend
associates those institutionalized in an asylum as being murderers, when in reality they re mutually
exclusive. Being institutionalized doesn t mean you re killer. The transfer of inmates in the urban
legend only occurred per request of the residents of Fairfax. They didn t want an asylum in their
county, because of how they perceived the patients as being a threat to their safety. The story only
goes on to confirm that it the right decision to move people in the insane asylum, because they turned
out to be

Monkey s Paw
The exposition of The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs creates a warm and comfortable mood in the
ready through the author s diction, depicting the White family as innocent despite their arguable greed
in using the monkey s paw. Immediately, Jacobs describes the setting of a majority of the story as a
comfortable one: The night was cold and wet, but in the small parlour of Laburnam Villa the blinds
were drawn and the fire burned brightly (Jacobs 1). In contrast with the cold, wet night outside, the
home is a safe and warm environment, causing the reader to feel comfortable and creating some trust
between the reader and the characters of the story. Mrs. White, whose name itself defends the family s
innocence, watches over her husband and son s

The Perception Of Risk And Its Effects On The Individual...
Risk is a situation involving exposure to danger or the possibility that something unpleasant or
unwelcome will happen; while perception refers to awareness of something through senses (Oxford
dictionary, 2015). The perception of risk is the judgment that people make to characterise and evaluate
hazardous activities and technologies (Slovic, 1987). It is very subjective that everyone has different
assessment and valuation towards the likelihood of an event happening and its consequences.
This normally influenced by the risk tolerance of the individual and there are several determinants of
risk tolerance such as gender, age and level of education. The risk perception goes beyond the
individual and it is a social and cultural construct reflecting values, symbols, history and ideology
(Weinstein, 1989). The perception of risk follows from the specificity and variability of human social
existence that it should not simply be presumed that scores and ratings on identical instruments have
the same meanings in different context (Boholm, 1998).
Inaccuracy in perceptions of risk is very much caused by self deception. It is the concept where
individuals convincing themselves to deny in something that is supported by relevant, significant and
important evidence and argument. Self deception includes the followings:
Overconfidence
According to Simon et al. (1999), human beings who are overconfident tend to take risky actions that
are highly likely to give disappointing outcomes due to

How Eucalyptus Oil Has Been Used By Indigenous People
Eucalyptus oil has been used by the indigenous people of Australia for centuries to relieve everything
from aches and pains to cold and flu symptoms. The oil is extracted by distillation from dried
eucalyptus leaves, and is used in everything from analgesic gels to cough drops. In terms of
application today, eucalyptus oil is used in insect repellent, shaving balm, soap, shampoo, cough
suppressant, disinfectant, asthma treatment, for managing blood sugar with diabetes, treating cold
sores, easing pain, freshening breath, and other uses too numerous to mention. I personally love my
eucalyptus oil base shaving soap and aftershave balm, as it both prevents and soothes the irritation of

Mixing a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil in with some coconut oil or your favorite
moisturizer/lotion and applying to sore hands, arms, or legs can really ease up the aching sensation,
and alleviate some of the pain of arthritis. If you want to give it a little boost in terms of potency, try
adding a little peppermint oil for good measure. Not only do the aroma and tingling sensation help
relieve your pain and aching, but they also boost your mood and reduce your overall stress

Comparing The Code Of Chivalry In Sir Gawain And The Green...
In the days of knights, kings, and jousts, there existed the knightly code of chivalry. This code is seen
throughout medieval texts and is described as, a moral system which went beyond rules of combat and
introduced the concept of Chivalrous conduct qualities idealized by the Medieval knights such as
bravery, courtesy, honor and great gallantry toward women...The Code of Chivalry was the honor code
of the knight. The Code of Chivalry was an important part of the society and lives of people who lived
during the Medieval times and was understood by all. (Alchin). The respected knight not only
followed these rules, but also lived to serve a king. In the two tales of Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight and Morte D Arthur, three of the chivalrous rules are clear to see. In these two tales, the three
rules of the nights that are prevalent in the stories are, courage, honesty, and strength. In the first story,
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain also shows an immense amount of courage throughout the
story. One example of Gawain s courage is when he steps in for King Arthur to hit the Green Knight
with the axe. Courage, or valor, is described as, ...the strength of mind or spirit that enables a person to
encounter danger with firmness and personal bravery. (Kelly). When the Green Knight is mocking the
crowd of warriors, Arthur steps up to hit the man with an axe. Knowing the terms of the deal, Gawain
couldn t bring himself to allow his king to be struck with an axe. When Gawain

The Oil And Gas Industry
When thinking about how all this oil and gas gets from the platforms in the gulf to land to be
produced, you will run across the phrase, flow assurance. Flow assurance is what makes sure these
oils and gases get from point A to point B without any hesitations or problems. Its main purpose is to
prevent hydrates, clogged pipes, and wax depositions. So can the oilfield industry survive without
flow assurance, especially in deep water operations? By reading this, you will learn how important
flow assurance is in this industry, and what serious problems can happen because of the failure of flow
assurance.
Body1
Flow assurance is the technology and ability to transport hydrocarbon fluids from reservoirs to export
points over the life of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flow assurance is the most critical task during deep water production because of the high pressures
and low temperature involved. Now that we have ventured off further into deep water drilling, no
longer does pipe flow analysis mean, pressure versus flow rate. When conditions are wrong, hydrates,
waxes, or asphaltenes form and come out of the well stream fluids, plugging up flowlines and
processing equipment. So, what are hydrates? Hydrates are crystalline, ice like solids that form when
small gas molecules, such as methane, ethane, and propane, are trapped in hydrogen bonded water
cages under high pressure and low temperature conditions. Hydrate nuclei form from the films of
water on the tubular walls. The crystallization of hydrates can result in formation of hydrate plugs
which can end up being hundreds of meters long. The formation of these hydrates can vary from
instantly to a few hours. If there is free water present, hydrates can form in the pipes. Natural gas
hydrates are crystals formed by water with small gas molecules and associated liquids in a ratio of 85
mol% water and 15 mol% hydrocarbons. Gas hydrates have been called the burning ice. This is due to
the fact that gas hydrates are host water cages containing guest gas molecules. These combustible gas
molecules can be

The Battle Of Khe Sanh Analysis
The Battle of Khe Sanh: 77 Days In Hell
Ba boom boom boom! When I asked him about the war he said he couldn t remember anything
besides the cantankerous eruption of the machine guns. After fleeing the war in Vietnam and
immigrating to America at the age of 21, my grandpa would then go on to serve four years as an Asian
American GI.
I remember when the letter came to my door saying how I would be drafted. My grandpa stated. All
around me, my family was crying and begging me not to go,but I knew what I had to do, I wanted to
take vengeance against the Vietcong who hurt my family,my friends, and pillaged my city! For what is
a man without his honor? He exclaimed. My first orders were to be deployed into Saigon and to await
further orders upon arrival.

ordered to proceed to the city of Khe Sanh in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was the only survivor, I fought there for 77 days until the conflict finally ended.
On April 9th, 1968, as he peered over the city of Khe Sanh, he immediately fell into dismay. A once
prominent city of Vietnam was now engulfed in an inferno of flames, the deafening shrieks of the
locals broke his heart and the bodies of fellow American GIs filled him with anger and hatred toward
the Vietcong. He put on his helmet and proceeded toward the chopper I began to question the war and
life itself that day, for what could posses a member of my own race to commit such acts of evil, killing
innocent women and children, torturing captured P.O.W.s and robbing their own citizens of their
wealth.
But perhaps the toughest thing to have to face was the amount of racism and discrimination I felt back
home in America. My grandpa sadly sighed. They called me a worthless chink, a rabid dog eater and a
terrorist, they beat me, they robbed me and they verbally harassed

Peculiarities Of The Wuthering Heights
2.2 Peculiarities of the Wuthering Heights .
The novel Wuthering Heights combines the specificity and generality, local color and universal
coverage of reality. Analyzing the characteristics of local color, we see that England is depicted in the
novel exactly the same as was in 1847. The people described in the novel, do not live in a fictional
extraterrestrial country, and in Yorkshire. Hithklif was born in a poor quarter of Liverpool.
Particular attention is the skill of the author in the image elements powerful forces of nature, which
change so slowly that throughout life they seem to be eternal and immutable. This image is the most
specific: the reader feels as if cooking odors Wuthering Heights, the wind that howls in ... Show more

However, heroes Wuthering Heights are not captured by nature. They live in a normal society and try
to change it, sometimes reaching success, constantly overcoming difficulties, making all new
mistakes.
Wuthering Heights is the novel not only about love and revenge. It shows how strong passionate
feelings govern the actions of individuals and even encourage the horrific crimes (Shakespearean
theme in Bronte). For this novel inherent moral ambiguity. The author gives the reader the opportunity
to shape attitudes and make their own assessment of the actions of the characters of the novel, it is the
perception of Wuthering Heights is constantly changing from one reading to the next.
Emily Brontë believed that people could endure the cruelty of society, relying on their own courage
and faith in our strength, because we all suffer together, we are the same, and no one should be
evaluated according to their kinds, social status or physical appearance. The author also expressed the
view that we are all capable of great good performance in the world just as much damage, and the
biggest goal for all of us to get equal value for all life on earth, whether human, animal, or part of

Purpose and Audience for the AT T Site
In discussing the purpose and audience for the AT T site, the possibilities are endless. This is due to the
fact that the document is online, which means it is exposed to more people than a regular print
document would most likely be exposed too. The fact that the document is a website and available on
the internet makes the purpose more multi faceted based on the audience groups viewing it.
People the ages of 3 to 99 are on the internet these days. The internet is something that most people
use to access information about well anything. The AT T sites purpose is to promote their brand, and
inform people about it. Before looking at the AT T site I wasn t aware of all of the different services
they offer other than wireless, after only viewing the page for seconds I quickly became informed
otherwise. That is there purpose brand awareness, making people aware of the brand and promoting
all of their services. The site also has a section that informs people about the company and what their
goals and ambitions are as a company. The about AT T link also goes into depth about the active role
that AT T plays in the community. The site also promotes their careers available at AT T, and even
gives current AT T members access to support for their services. Although the site has many purposes,
I would say that the main purpose is brand awareness. AT T centers their site around all of the
different products and services they offer, they want to get the word out about everything that

Is There Real Courage In To Kill A Mockingbird
In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, the author, uses theme to reveal a truth about life to
Jem and the readers. At the end of the chapter, Atticus and Jem are talking about Mrs. Dubose, their
mean, old neighbor who had passed away. A month earlier, Jem destroyed all of Mrs. Dubose s
camellia flowers because she had made a rude comment about Atticus to Scout and him. As a
punishment, Jem was forced to go over to her house and read a book to her every afternoon for a
month. Shortly after his month was over, Mrs. Dubose died. She had left a white camellia for Jem in
her will, causing him to freak out over it. Atticus explained to Jem that although Mrs. Dubose was a

Mrs. Dubose was a morphine addict; she knew that she would die very soon because of it. Because
she knew what the consequences would be and still fought through her addiction, she was a
courageous person in the eyes of Atticus. He explained to Jem his view on the situation, I wanted you
to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It s
when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no
matter what. (Lee 128). Atticus was trying to tell Jem that courage isn t a man holding a gun, who is
able to shoot any danger in his way. Courage is someone knowing that the situation they re going to
go through will have bad consequences, but they go up against it anyways. They choose to deal with it
head on, no matter what will happen to them in the future. That s what Atticus believed was courage,
which is why he thought that Mrs. Dubose fit that attribute. She was well aware of the consequences
of being a morphine addict; she knew for a fact that she had a few months left to live because of it.
Yet, she still stuck around and fought through it as long as she

  • 2. The Fight Over Stalingrad During World War II As much as it is glamorized on television and video games, people have forgotten the realities of war. For in war, soldiers and civilians alike have suffered severely, and combat has put everyone who is involved to a true test of character. An example of the tests of war is found by looking at Germany s failed attack on the Russian city of Stalingrad during World War II. In the fight over Stalingrad, there are examples that demonstrate the struggles that both Russian and German soldiers faced. The Russians, for example, had to fortify themselves first in the buildings of Stalingrad then in the rubble of these same buildings as they watched their city crumble. However, the Russian s determination and reinforcements changed the tide of the battle, and the German forces ultimately found themselves surrounded by the Russians without necessary war supplies The Russian s determination to hold Stalingrad is probably best seen in this entry in the war diary of the Russian 62nd Army on October 14, 1942, 1220: radio message from unit of 416th Regiment from hexagonal block of flats: Surrounded; have water and cartridges; will die rather than surrender (qtd. in The Long Agony, 883). This determination is only further presented by this statement made by the commander of the 62nd Army, Buildings split up enemy formations like breakwaters, forcing them to follow the line of the streets. That is why we clung to the most solid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The relationship between Theophanes and his pupil Rublev was enigmatic, he invited Rublev and to work with him on the Annunciation Cathedral. Rublev later instigated his own style of painting. Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central government. It is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts. The separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the current U.S. government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four regime types of Plato. According to Socrates, in Timoracy, the spiritedness, which is the love of victory and honors, will be predominant. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and trade; for its rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for war. Timoracy will be also governed in being afraid to appoint the wise as rulers, instead, selecting spirited and simpler man, men naturally more directed to war than to peace (Plato 547e). Many people have experienced discrimination against their age daily, even in schools and workplaces. Why is this important? Ageism can relate to everyone in the society; managers, employees, teachers, police officers, principles, etc. For example in a workplace, there are questions you are not allowed to ask during an interview, to your employees and coworkers, etc. Managers can get in trouble for saying stuff like you can t do this because your too young , forcing someone to retire due to their age, not interviewing someone due to their age, As an employer, you cannot be denied a job, training or promotion, or forced to retire, because of your age, etc. If you are experiencing age discrimination against you, you can make a human rights complaint by contacting the human rights tribunal of Ontario. The Code defines age as 18 years or older However, persons age 16 or older are protected from discrimination in housing if they are not living with their parents also you cannot refuse to rent to younger people because you assume they won t be good tenants. Also the poem was written approximately two years before he died. These life changing events resulted in Keats writing one of his most famous poems, Ode to a Nightingale. This poem is an escape from reality in trying to find a happy place such as the singing of the Nightingale (Fiero 9). The poem is a parallel to Keats thoughts and desires, which are directly connected to his reasoning for writing the poem, its connections to understanding nature as well as its reflection of the human consciousness and natural environment. The two negative impacts caused by transnational corporations that will be discussed in this report are sweatshops and life expectancy. These impacts are important to understand because they educate us on how the world of trade is influenced by sweatshops, and how sweatshops effect an individual s life. The respected knight not only followed these rules, but also lived to serve a king. In the two tales of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Morte D Arthur, three of the chivalrous rules are clear to see. In these two tales, the three rules of the nights that are prevalent in the stories are, courage, honesty, and strength. In the first story, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain also shows an immense amount of courage throughout the story. One example of Gawain s courage is when he steps in for King Arthur to hit the Green Knight with the axe. Courage, or valor, is described as, ...the strength of mind or spirit that enables a person to encounter danger with firmness and personal bravery. (Kelly). • 45. The Oil And Gas Industry When thinking about how all this oil and gas gets from the platforms in the gulf to land to be produced, you will run across the phrase, flow assurance. Flow assurance is what makes sure these oils and gases get from point A to point B without any hesitations or problems. Its main purpose is to prevent hydrates, clogged pipes, and wax depositions. So can the oilfield industry survive without flow assurance, especially in deep water operations? By reading this, you will learn how important flow assurance is in this industry, and what serious problems can happen because of the failure of flow assurance. Body1 Flow assurance is the technology and ability to transport hydrocarbon fluids from reservoirs to export points over the life of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flow assurance is the most critical task during deep water production because of the high pressures and low temperature involved. Now that we have ventured off further into deep water drilling, no longer does pipe flow analysis mean, pressure versus flow rate. When conditions are wrong, hydrates, waxes, or asphaltenes form and come out of the well stream fluids, plugging up flowlines and processing equipment. So, what are hydrates? Hydrates are crystalline, ice like solids that form when small gas molecules, such as methane, ethane, and propane, are trapped in hydrogen bonded water cages under high pressure and low temperature conditions. Hydrate nuclei form from the films of water on the tubular walls. The crystallization of hydrates can result in formation of hydrate plugs which can end up being hundreds of meters long. The formation of these hydrates can vary from instantly to a few hours. If there is free water present, hydrates can form in the pipes. Natural gas hydrates are crystals formed by water with small gas molecules and associated liquids in a ratio of 85 mol% water and 15 mol% hydrocarbons. Gas hydrates have been called the burning ice. This is due to the fact that gas hydrates are host water cages containing guest gas molecules. These combustible gas molecules can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He put on his helmet and proceeded toward the chopper I began to question the war and life itself that day, for what could posses a member of my own race to commit such acts of evil, killing innocent women and children, torturing captured P.O.W.s and robbing their own citizens of their wealth. But perhaps the toughest thing to have to face was the amount of racism and discrimination I felt back home in America. My grandpa sadly sighed. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. (Lee 128). Atticus was trying to tell Jem that courage isn t a man holding a gun, who is able to shoot any danger in his way. Courage is someone knowing that the situation they re going to go through will have bad consequences, but they go up against it anyways.
