Ray Bradbury s The Illustrated Man
Science fiction is about ideas involving exploration of the past and future. Science fiction also
includes robots and new technology. The Illustrated Man is mainly about exploring technology in
different ways. Throughout the book, there are unique ways of showing technology and some
weird or different ways too. Ray Bradbury s The Illustrated Manhas a common theme throughout
the book. The theme is: Technology is portrayed as failing to make human life better.
The story, the Veldt, is about a nursery for two kids that have a mind of their own. They have a
nursery but it takes a turn for the worse when they started using the technology against their own
parents. In this story, the technology fails by having so much control over the children, because
the kids believe they could do as they please. They even lock their own parents in a nursery and
put them to death. The point of the nursery is to give children s ... Show more content on

This story is about a man whose wife is overbearing towards him and he is tired of it. So he finds
out about this company who can help him with his problem. So then he goes and agrees to
purchase a robot, but the robot wants to become him for a permanent time and decides to kill
him. In Marionettes Inc. the technology fails by being so powerful until it was able to
overpower the owner. It overpowered the owner because it was being used so much, and wants
to be the owner fulltime, so it made a set up to kill the owner. The point of Marionette s , is to
give a person some time to spend for themselves, but in this case, the owner used too much time
off and resulted in a bad ending. Don t run! Take your hand off! I m going to put you in the box,
lock it and lose the key. Bradbury, pg.243. This quote shows that the Marionette killed its own

Sexual Revolution
Sexual Revolution Evolution Intimacy is not free in the modern world. Political change, social
change, systems of oppression, and globalization all contribute to the shape and to the limit of
people s intimate lives. The oppressive regulation of marriage and sexuality by states and cultures
can really affect intimacy and incite sexual revolutions.
In feminist studies Professor Leila Rupp s lecture, Tickell and Peck were cited as defining
globalization as a notion based on an increasingly borderless market, where market rules and
competitive logics predominate. In another lecture, Rupp stated that sexual revolutions are linked to
and caused by: globalization, economic forces, technology and culture. Rupp expresses that many
changes in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in lecture, Sodomy laws are very vague laws that deem any sexual activity that is unnatural
is unlawful. Many homosexuals have been victims of this oppressive legislation because
homosexuality can be interpreted as an act of sodomy, and act of abnormality. In regards to the
1986 Bowers v. Hardwick Supreme Court decision which upheld Georgia s sodomy law, Georgia s
attorney general stated, It is the very act of homosexual sodomy that epitomizes moral delinquency.
A gay couple arrested in their own home because they were having sexual relations that were
deemed unnatural in the eyes of legislators is the epitome of political oppression. Restrictions on
intimacy in private are ridiculousness at its climax. As Rupp confirms, States have an interest in
sexuality: because there is a complex relationship between law and culture; what seems private is
not.
In addition to the Georgia sodomy case, there has been other legislative oppression that
constricts intimacy, and intervenes on individual s private lives. In Malawi for example, a gay
couple had a public engagement celebration and were arrested and face fourteen years in prison.
Displaying love for a companion that is seen as against the norm can place people in prison, and
sometimes killed. For example, in Iraq there have been murders of men suspected of being gay and

This article focusses on three main points in which the refugees have suffered from the Australian
government deciding to implement a plan to save lives from refugees coming to Australia by boat.
In 2012 and 2013 tens of thousands more refugees fled their home countries to move away from the

This article shows a video interview from psychologist Paul Stevenson, he talks about what
really goes on and how Australia can t see what is really going on at these detention centres. He
mentions that the attitude that is expressed from the government perspective is that these
people are really in detention centres and not on a holiday camp, meaning that they have to be
behind 3 meter scrim fences, that people have to be housed in venal tents on dirt floors in 40
degree heat. It shows a video of a refugees saying We need your help, 24 hours we didn t get any
food, any water. This video interview was very important in creating my view for my rationale
and will be very useful as you can hear the pain in the refugee s voice. It gives an insight into the
way refugees are treated and that Australia needs to change how we treat them. The interview is
very opinionated as it is from Paul Stevenson s view on the detention centres.

Ithaca Chapter 17 Summary
Chapter 17: Reimagining Plot and Literary Style in Ithaca
Ithaca is the book s most radical attack on the idea of literary style (Lawrence 559).
In some versions of Ulysses, Ithaca ends with a bold dot clearly placed in the middle of the page.
The dot represents a central crux that concerns much of the critical scholarship surrounding the
episode; does the novel come to a conclusion? Does Ulysses have a point ? In his accompaniment
to the novel, Gifford refers to the dot as a Q.E.D., an abbreviation of the Latin phrase quod erat
demonstrandum. The phrase itself translates to that which was to be proved and, in classical logic
proofs and syllogisms, a Q.E.D. marks the conclusion of a problem. Gifford and other critics
believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The homeric parallels from the previous episodes find their way home in Ithaca. In books
seventeen through twenty three of The Odyssey, Odysseus, with help form Telemachus, enters
Ithaca in disguise. Still unknown to those in the palace, Odysseus strings his great bow and
slaughters the suitors who have overrun his home. Much of the action in the chapter accurately
corresponds to the action of Homer s epic; Bloom has to enter his house by a stratagem after
forgetting his keys (17.84), like Zeus sign of reassurance the liturgical review of Bloom s day is
rewarded by a loud lone crack emitted by the insentient material of a strainveined timber table
(Joyce 17.2061 62 [Gifford 566]), and most saliently, Bloom kills Molly s suitors in his own
right. Near the end of the chapter, he gives a list of the sequence of men in Molly s life. However,
this list comes after a meditation of the ephemerality of human importance. He thinks that each one
who enters imagines himself a preceding series even if the first term of a succeeding one, each
imagining himself to be first, last, only and alone whereas he is neither first last nor only nor alone
in a series originating in and repeated to infinity (17.2128 31). Bloom s indifference about Blazes
and the other suitors in Molly s life let him transcend the cowardly cuckold narrative that followed
him throughout the novel. The suitors cannot take his place, because in an infinite, cycling
sequence there is no place to take. Although Odysseus asserts his rightful position through the
violent slaughter of men competing for his wife s attention, Bloom defeats the suitors by
disregarding their importance all

Adult Opposition Theory
Murder is a disturbing crime that shocks people when it occurs, however it s more disturbing to
think that a child is capable of such a violent and atrocious act. It is often very hard to imagine that
a young child can be the source of such extreme violence and act in such an extreme manner. We as
adults may not always be able to understand why they commit delinquent acts, or exhibit extremely
violent and even commit a heinous crime such as murder. Psychological theories are able to give us
some understanding of why these things happen and understanding what drives a juvenile to
engage in criminal behavior may be able to ultimately help prevent further delinquency or
delinquent behavior taken into account the various factors that are involved.... Show more content

It is also possible that if his parents were able to figure out the cause of what caused his actions
that they would have been able to help him in some way. We can t always know what is
happening, but even Josh s father admits he could have handled certain situations differently. This
just goes to show that children will react to situations in whatever ways they feel are necessary.
Sometimes is it hard to explain why a juvenile takes to delinquency due to the high numbers of
factors that comes into play, and what causes them to act the way they do. The best thing we can
do for juveniles is to help them in any way that fits their unique circumstances and try to show them
that there are positive outlets for their anger and frustrations and positive ways of expressing

The Psychological Dimension of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The...
The Psychological Dimension of The Birthmark
This essay will analyze Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark in order to demonstrate that it is a
psychological short story both in its themes and in its emphasis on the moral psychological aspect
of the main characters.
There is probably unanimity among literary critics that Hawthorne is a psychological writer.
Consider some of their statements chosen at random from various critiques of Hawthorne s literary
works: Stanley T. Williams in Hawthorne s Puritan Mind says:
What he wrote of New England was . . . .the subconscious mind of New England. It was. . . .
unforgettable case histories of men and women afflicted by guilt, or, as he called it, by a stain...

The theme is the general concept or doctrine, whether implicit or asserted, which an imaginative
work is designed to incorporate and make persuasive to the reader (Abrams 170). Morse Peckham in
The Development of Hawthorne s Romanticism explains what he interprets Hawthorne s main
theme to be in his short stories: Henceforth Hawthorne s theme is the redemption of the self
through the acceptance and exploitation of what society terms the guilt of the individual but which
to the Romantic is society s guilt (92). This psychological theme is very much present in The
Birthmark. Georgiana feels guilt because of the curious hand shaped birthmark on her cheek; Ayler
feels guilt because of his failed experiemnts both early in life and later, including the killing of
Georgiana; Aminadab experiences guilt from the loathful expressions which his master uses in
reference to the servant.
But is guilt the main theme? Clarice Swisher comments: When Hawthorne called his stories
romances, he meant that they belong within the romantic movement that . . . . emphasize
imagination and personal freedom (18). Where does this personal freedom lead in TheBirthmark
except to the alienation of Aylmer from his wife in her death? He is already alienated from
Aminadab, who chuckles when he sees Georgiana dying and Aylmer s experiment failing. Is
alienation the more dominant theme? Hyatt Waggoner in Nathaniel Hawthorne states:
Alienation is perhaps the theme he

Abstract Of Cloning
Abstract
Cloning is a new branch of medicine. Though medicine is already well developed it will be
always evolving. Now the scientists are focused on cloning. Many people seem to be frightened,
but progress is inevitable. Cloning can be very beneficial if it is used properly. In order to clone an
organism, the scientists must know the structure, function and construction of every single cell in
the body. Moreover cloning is a hope for incurably sick people, because the main purpose of
cloning is to find new ways to treat patients. Some people may be afraid of cloning, because they
are unfamiliar with it. They see it as a threat to humanity, rather than an option to treat and prevent
diseases.
Recently cloning is becoming more and more popular topic. It is puzzling and intriguing. On one
hand it seems to be frightening, but on the other hand it is evolutionary. As a new branch of
medicine, cloning technology needs to be developed even more, because cloning is beneficial for
developing the knowledge of humankind. Scientists need huge effort in order to clone. They need
to know every single cell of the body, its function, and construction. By gaining that knowledge,
they will know every aspect of an organism. Cloning is a perfect method to discover new
treatments for incurably sick people.
Cloning is beneficial for developing the knowledge about the human kind, and there are plenty of
reasons to prove that. For example, thanks to cloning the

Identification is the first of the four steps in this process. Any user that expects to gain access to a
system referred to as a supplicant, and the tool that every user who gains entry to the network,
referred to as an Identifier. The identifier can have numerous different methods for identifying the
supplicant. The identifier should be able to locate the users credentials from a database of unique
information that determines the supplicants identity. The most common form of verification is
through using the employees first and last name. In case there happen to be colleagues with
common names, such as John Doe, employee Id s or Social Security numbers remain utilized. In a
good number of companies, they are no longer using the employee s Social Security number to
identify them in their system. They are replacing them with an employee ID. This reduces the
information that a network intruder (also known as a hacker) or another employee gaining access
to their Social Security numbers. Authentication is the second step in this process. Once
identification of the employee is established, there will be a request for input from that user. That
will either corroborate to the system that he or she is who they claim to be or that they are not who
they claim to be.
The complexity of the authentication process depends on the type of information that needs

Turn Pete Seeger Song Essay
Musician, song writer, and social activist, Pete Seeger wrote the hit Turn! Turn! Turn!, which
was popularly covered by the American rock band, The Byrds. Seeger adapted the lyrics from
Ecclesiastes chapter 3. Before delving deeper into the meaning of Ecclesiastes 3 in class, I
would have seen little to no difference between the meaning of the Bible and the meaning of the
Seeger song. For me initially, both the song and chapter expressed the notion of life s beautiful
and dark times: the time for joyously dancing about the room or the time for feeling frozen with
grief. But, when reading and discussing Ecclesiastes in class, I finally read the verses in a larger
context. As a whole book Ecclesiastes has a more negative tone, even expressing the uselessness or
the meaninglessness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Editors of the text even potentially added concluding remarks to the controversial messages of
Ecclesiastes in order to remind the reader that their actions do in fact matter, because they need
to follow the word of God and his commandments. But, for me, the Seeger song has a more
comforting, much more widely applicable and more secular meaning, despite the fact that its
lyrics come directly from the Bible. The song alludes more to my initial interpretation of the
verses, because the words stand alone, without the greater context of Ecclesiastes. A line from
both the verses and the song that I find troubling is the suggestions that there should be a time of
war, and a time of peace. I had trouble finding an explanation as to why the Bible would promote
having a time for war, while there obviously had been times of war and there would be more
times of war, it seems odd that the Bible would make war an inevitable. Should there really be a
time for war? As I have come to study the Old Testament with more questions and with greater
analysis, I see and contemplate the violence of it. And I have come to accept that there is not
always a concrete answer when it comes to the Bible s

Along with the Benefit Measurement Method, Constrained optimization method can also be used
which involves mathematical approach. Since this method involves the mathematical approach,
several calculations are performed in order to take a decision to accept or reject the project.
Mathematical models, also known as Constrained Optimization Methods, are a category of project
selection methods, which is a tool and technique of the Develop Project Charter process (PMP,
2008). Cost benefit analysis is one of the methods which fall into this category. All the positives and
negatives of the project are taken into consideration and then the negatives are carefully excluded
from the benefits. Different results are produced for the different projects. The most worthy and
financially rewarding option are selected from these results. When employing this method, there are
many things that are to be considered such as the impact of the decision on the development of the
organization in the future, the length of time the equipment lasts and whether it is possible to do
the cost control during the project.

Home Depot Present Value Essay
To calculate the present value for Home Depot we must evaluate and understand their 10 k
statement. We were given an interest rate of 8% and to evaluate the capital leases from 2015
2019 and then calculate the present value (please see excel spreadsheet for more detail). It was
determined that the total present value throughout 2015 2019 is equal to $425.78 (in millions).
This is an important figure and should be closely monitored and reviewed for future decisions,
as it could greatly affect the company s ability to make future payments. If the risk of the
company changes the obviously the present value will change as well. For example, if the
interest rate were to change from 8% to 5% the total present value would increase to $460.69 (in
millions). If we were to use the example above with a 5% interest rate, and a present value of...

Net present value and the risk have a strong relation with each other. With inappropriate
assessment of risk, one cannot arrive at a correct or near correct net present value. Net present
value of any asset or investment is the present worth of that asset or investment based on
analysis of future returns using appropriate discounting rate. A risk is an uncertainly attached to
the future cash flows (efinancemanagement.com). A lower risk means an increase in the company
s present value and future values. In the examples provided so far if the interest rate were to stay
at 8% the future value of the company would be $488.62 (in millions) compared to a 5% interest
rate and a future value of $587.97 (in millions). That is a difference of $99.35 (in millions) for
potential profit when the company is sold. In present value terms when the rate is 8% the present
value is $425.78 (in millions). compared to 5% and $460.69 (in millions). This proving that
lowering the risk lowers the interest rate which then increases the present value of the company as
well as the future value of the

The Legal Issue Surrounding The Plaintiffs’ Janvier Et
The legal issue surrounding the plaintiffs Janvier et al. deals with negligence in the workplace
resulting in harm. Negligence is a form of tort law. The purpose of tort law is to compensate
victims. Typically in order to claim negligence, the plaintiff must prove four things: duty of care,
standard of care, that the plaintiff suffered injury or damage, and the defendants conduct caused
injury to the plaintiff. Despite this claim of negligence, according to WCB legislation, the lawsuit
filed by these plaintiffs is not actionable in court. As an employer worker relationship exists, the

This case, although it is not mentioned in the article, is an example of occupiers liability.
Occupiers liability is a negligence tort that imposes liability on occupants of land for harm
suffered to visitors of the property. For this case, Skyway can argue that as CCRL is an
employer to Skyway, and that CCRL has entered a contractual agreement with the plaintiff, there
is an established relationship between the parties. To further illustrate a relationship, Skyway
was invited onto the job site to perform services for CCRL, thus making the plaintiff an invitee.
The plaintiff is arguing that the defendant owes Skyway the standard of care to a safe working
environment. As outlined in The Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Hazardous
Materials Information System) Regulations, RRS c S 15 Reg 6 ( OH S ), every worker has the
right to a safe working environment. A safe workplace was not provided because of CCLR s
negligence in maintaining the environment. Facility pipes that were due for replacement in 2010
were not changed. There is an obligation for occupiers to ensure that reasonable steps are taken to
prevent foreseeable injuries. As the pipe, which caused the explosion, should have been replaced in
2010, the defendant did not take reasonable action to prevent this event. As the plaintiff is an
invitee, it could prove that the defendant owed the plaintiff a higher standard of care, which was not
met by the defendant. As it relates to damages, the plaintiff lost

littering by introducing the menaing of littering. Then it will discuss about the effects of littering to
wildlife, health and communities. The essay also provides suggestion to combat littering and illegal
dumping of trash and waste. Littering is the careless and casual disposal of trash or waste, often
along roadways and in other public places. It may include items as large as automobile tires and

Other indicators of neighborhood decline and disorder include vandalism, abandoned buildings,
graffiti, and vacant lots. Of all of the indicators assessed in a study done by Perkins, Meeks, and
Taylor in 1992, litter was found to have the strongest correlation with perceptions of
neighborhood decline and disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). A study by Skogan in
1990, indicates that the effects of this perception of neighborhood decline range from a decrease
in property values to an increase in crime, or at least an increase in criminals perception that
crime will be tolerated (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). This study goes on to explain that as
people s perceptions of neighborhood decline increase, it is more likely that crime will occur and
that criminals will be drawn to the area because it appears more likely that criminal behavior will
be tolerated or ignored. A study by DeFrances and Titus in 1994 found a statistically significant
relationship between neighborhood disorder and burglary outcome indicating that burglaries are
more likely to be completed in neighborhoods with higher levels of disorder (as in Florida Litter
Study, 1998). The study by Skogan indicates that the effect of this perception of neighborhood
decline and increase in crime can also negatively impact property values and investment interest (as
in Florida Litter Study, 1998).

Comparing Aristotle And David Hume
There are two significant empiricists I m going to focus on, Aristotle and David Hume.
Specifically, the focus is on their ethics: what those ethics are, how they differ from each other,
and which is superior. Superiority will be determined by the philosophy s usefulness whether
the epitome of a philosophy s virtue is attainable by man; and how conducive the philosophy is
to human happiness. In both of these respects, Aristotle is superior to Hume. To Aristotle, ethics
is not an exact science, it s ruled by broad generalizations that work most of the time and are
found with those of experience, the men of practical wisdom (Nicomachean Ethics, 1094b15
1095a10). We don t need a focused study in the sciences to understand the good, all one needs is
a proper understanding of how the external aspects of life: friendship, pleasure, honor, and
wealth operate in concert. No aspects of friendship, pleasure, honor, and wealth ought to be
practiced too much (excess) or too little (deficient); moral virtue is action performed between two
extremes (Nic. Ethics, 1106b5 25). And it is by consultation that one may find the middle ground
between excess and deficiency, The Golden Mean (Nic. Ethics, 1097b5 20; Nic. Ethics, 1104a10
25). Virtue is, by definition, the excellent performance of an object s function (Nic. Ethics,
1097b25 30). A thing s function is determined by eliminating every ability that isn t exclusive to
what it is to be that thing (Nic. Ethics, 1097b30 1098a5). For example, a

The Social And Its Effect On Society
The social is unstable, it s able to be a wide variety of different groups or eras. Desires from the
social are changing everyday. Society and culture today is influencing the types of music that is
considered popular today. In many ways the race and class has become normative, and has a place
in popular culture, with that said the social is vaguely changing, and is dependent on the factors
argued. I will argue we can see the social in the music through the pleasure received from music,
through cultural values, and desire, and symbolic control.
The social can be seen in music through repetition, repetition generates a sense of pleasure to
people. Society appreciates familiarity we enjoy catchy predictable songs, and that familiarity could
be achieved through repetition. There are two types of repetitions in music, such as musematic
riffs, and discursive riffs. Musematic riffs is more basic than discursive, and is the repetition of
shorter units throughout the song. Discursive repetition is the repetition of longer units, at the level
of phase, and is based towards the self, and ego. According to middleton repetition helps the listener
get into a different space, changing the mood and gain some symbolic control. Repetition is often
associated with the phenomenon of being sent , particularly in relation to hypnotic rhythmic
repetitions and audience trance: a collective! loss of the self.(Middleton pg 19) For example the
condition of production influenced culturally

Parental Involvement in the Youth Criminal Justice System...
Summary of Context In their article Doug Hillian and Marge Reitsma Street examines parents
involvement in the youth criminal justice system in Western Canada. Their study was conducting
on ten Caucasian families nine of which were middle and upper middle class, with sons, involved
in the Juvenile Criminal JusticeSystem. The study was to determine the parents place in the judicial
system, which appears to make it more arduous for parents, attempting to deal with the difficult task
of parenting young offenders, while navigating a system, which labels, blames, and assumes that as
parents they are unfit, irresponsible, and uncaring. Hillian and Reitsma argues if one starts with the

Moreover, it is with the utmost importance, that the courts strategize, on how to empower and
motivate parent s participation and involvement. The most obvious or realistic approach, would be
to utilize studies with concrete outcomes and conclusion, or expound on, or develop a study or
focus group identifying the parents needs, parenting style, barriers, and other challenges that makes
parental involvement difficult. Thus, it would allow the implementation of practical and viable
solutions, specifically changing the systemic problems, empowering parents, and forging a
collaborative relationship between the juvenile justice system, the community, and parents. Some
things, should to be immediately done, such as treating parents with empathy and respect,
understanding that they have rights and should be informed of those rights. Some of the apparent
rights of the parents are fair treatment with dignity and respect, the rights to know what the courts
expects of them, and informed of all scheduled court dates and appointments, which could be
inserted in a pamphlet. The overall benefit would be to work together in a collaborative effort to
help reduce the recidivism rate among youth and lessen the inconvenient burden of the parents,
community and juvenile justice system.

Characterism In Looking For Alibrandi By Melina Marchetta
he novel, Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta, focuses on a 17 year old teenager who has
an Italian background called Josephine Alibrandi. Josephine is really two different people at the
beginning and the end of the book. In the beginning, Josephine is overdramatic, poised to react
to her Italian background and her illegitimacy. At the end of the book, Josephine began to
achieve emancipation. She has learnt that she has blown her problems out of proportion, that
not everyone is about to execute her for being Italian and illegitimate. Josephine s interaction
with the other characters has brought this about. She faced quite a number of challenges in her
final year. They include the arrival of Michael Andretti and her change of perspective and
attitude towards Nonna Katia. In the beginning of the novel, Josephine s attitude towards Nonna
was very atrocious. Despite the fact that she disliked Nonna, she still has to come to her house
every afternoon after school. One of the reasons that she disliked coming to Nonna s house was
that she despised the idea of being force fed every afternoon of her life (Quote: I was force fed

J. D. Salinger
J. D. Salinger The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it. James
Bryce* In 1945, a novel was published that would forever change the way society views itself.
The book, entitled The Catcher in the Rye, would propel a man named Jerome David Salinger to

after the publication and while still in the peak of his career, would depart from this society the

After receiving an English degree at Columbia, Salinger worked briefly as an entertainer on the
Swedish Liner MS Kungsholm in the Caribbean in 1941. In 1942 Salinger enlisted in the United
States Army and fought in World War II, where he eventually became a staff sergeant earning five
battle stars. The time spent overseas played a major role in what would ultimately be the basis of
most of Salinger s short stories. World War II is also where Salinger met one of his major literary
influences, Ernest Hemingway. Although Salinger s style stems from Hemingway, their first
encounter was not one that sat well on Salingers s mind. The story goes that while Hemingway was
serving as an author correspondent, he visited Salinger s regiment and that Salinger became
disgusted when Hemingway shot the head off a chicken to demonstrate the merits of a German
Lager (French 25). The incident so affected Salinger that he incorporates it into his short story, For
Esme: with Love and Squalor, with a corporal named Clay shooting the head off a cat and
constantly dwelling upon the senseless act. The relationship between Hemingway and Salinger
would last until Hemingway s death in 1961. Despite having a personal relationship with
Hemingway, according to Harold Bloom, ...[Salinger s work actually] derives from F. Scott
Fitzgerald (qtd. in Salinger SSC 2: 318). Such a conclusion can be drawn for a number of reasons.

While the human population continues to grow so does the need for land to contain the growth.
In man s attempt to fulfill this need we find that we are encroaching on lands used for diverse
wildlife and plant life. The problem comes from the fact that when man moves into these new
areas he usually takes over and in the process damages or destroys ecosystems that were in place.
This loss of ecosystems equates to the loss of animal species and also plant species. This is
happening in our world at an alarming rate. One issue that should be sending up a big red flag is
that no one knows how the loss of these plants and animals is going to affect our planet. Luckily

Henri is one of the two nephews of the rich uncle who recently passed away. From time to time
he does a short narration of the film. The story begins in the house of late uncle with the reading
of his will and continues throughout the rest of the film. The rest of the story tells about the
relationship between the two brothers, Paul and Henri, and the newly widowed and rich old
Aunt Rosalie. Considering the movie was made during 1956 the content and them are consistent
with the time frame and geared toward an adult audience that are fans of mystery movies. It has
an awesome ending twist and illustrates, quit nicely, that you always get what you deserve. The
sole purpose of this file is to deliver that message. The tone however is very inconsistent
throughout the film. When the film begins it is very gloomy and dark because of the death of
their uncle. It soon shifts into the plan of the two brothers and the tone becomes suspicious and
the music is very mysterious. Once Paul begins to lay his deceptive relationship on Aunt Rosalie

The Scenarios Of Consumer s Futures 2020
By 2020, the world could develop into a myriad of different scenarios, but there is no one scenario
that can accurately represent what the US, let alone the world, will become even in four short
years. The four scenarios in Consumer s Futures 2020 has options that could unfold, but it is
unlikely in such a short timeframe. Nevertheless, the most likely of the four presented scenarios to
me is sell it to me. This is because the scenario allows people to keep spending and minimizes the
work individuals have to put into becoming more sustainable. It also marks a more prosperous,
flourishing economy that enables the option to buy more selectively the brands and products that
intrigue them. Lastly, this scenario utilizes the technologythat we are already hyper reliant on to
generate more personalized business. Many of these aspects are already occurring to some degree,
but I can see them becoming more prominent over time.
The market is currently well on the mend, with unemployment rates decreasing and overall
incomes increasing; I disagree with the scenario as, contrary to scenario 3, awareness of income
inequality is more mainstream and being combated. With this increasing upward mobility,
consumers want to buy more and more, as many US citizens mark their prosperity on how much
you can buy. Already emerging is the demand for organic foods to be sold in conventional grocery
stores. People also spend a little extra to buy brands that give them the perception of wealth like

A Risk Engineering Approach to Project Management
Project Management A project is a group activity temporary in nature projected to achieve a desired
result, service or product in a unique manner (Chapman, 2007). A project is termed as temporary
since it has a set start and finish time period and is undertaken with defined resources and within a
set scope. The operations within a project are unique since they do not rely on the routing
operations. Rather, a set of operations are designated to meet the desired target. From this
understanding, it is deduced that project management will entail the process of meeting the set
goals for a particular activity. According to (Chapman, 2007), project management is the strategic
deployment of skills, knowledge and techniques to accomplish specific set goals efficiently and
effectively. Project management deviates away from normal organization operations to achieve
predefined targets. Project management reorients and organizes available resources to meet set
goals efficiently within a defined scope the set time period (Chapman, 2007). Project management
is divided into five interrelated but, distinctive phases. These phases are: Project initiation; Project
planning; Project execution; Project Monitoring and controlling and, Project Termination. In
project management, time, money and scope are the three principal components considered to have
a bearing on the success of the project. These are interrelated and, a balance between them is
needful in order to ensure efficient and

Boston Marathon Bombing Speech Essay
In his speech at the Interfaith Service after the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama
effectively used language to describe the tragedy that had occurred, reference people who were
affected by the events, and to encourage the nation to stand up and stay strong. This use of
language allowed him to capture the attention of the audience and clearly make his point known.
President Obama s use of language painted a picture of Boston, both before and after the
bombings, and brought forward emotions from those who heard his speech. Use of imagery was
essential in the President s speech, as it allowed him to describe Boston in a way that made the
entire country feel as though they were directly involved in the attack, even though the majority
were not involved at all. Phrases such as sunlight glistened off the statehouse dome and spring
was in bloom allowed those listening to or reading President Obama s speech to feel as though
they were there that morning and sense the peace that had been there before the bombings took
place. Another use of imagery, her red hair and her freckles and her ever eager willingness to
speak her mind allowed spectators to develop a picture in their minds of one of the victims. Being

non operating activities. The purpose of the income statement is to show managers and investors
whether the company made or lost money during the period being reported. From the income
statement we can do a ratio analysis of the company. Below are ratios relevant to Coca Cola.
Ratio Analysis
The price to earnings share ratio is a valuation ratio of a company s current share price compared to
its per share earnings. For example, if a company is currently trading at $43 a share and earnings
over the last 12 months were $1.95 per share, the P/E ratio for the stock would be 22.05 ($43
/$1.95). (Investopedia, 2011)
The P/E ratio for Coca Cola is 12.39. (Yahoo Finance, 2011) This ratio indicates that the company s
stock price is currently trading at 12 and a third of its current earnings. Considering the relative

The Causes Of Early Basketball Dynasties In The United States
14.
Early Basketball Dynasties Several teams in both college and the professional level formed
early dynasties. Some say that this contributed to the unpopularity of the game during their
reigns because the outcomes were too predictable. In the NBA, the Minnesota Lakers had a
dynasty going; led by Mikan, they won championships in 5 of 6 seasons from 1949 to 1954.
Even as the league changed its rules, and as Mikan s scoring dipped, the Lakers rolled. However,
the game itself was becoming harder to watch. The Boston Celtics would continue where
Minnesota left off. It started in 1957, when the Boston Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks in a
tough best of seven game series. That was the first of an incredible 11 championships in 13 seasons.
Some say that the Celtics Destiny is the most incredible in history but the UCLA Bruins college
basketball team might have something to say about that. For 12 seasons, beginning with the
1963 1964 season, Coach John Wooden and the Bruins won a record 10 NCAA titles; including
seven in a row. The only years they did not win were 1965 66 season where they had a bad run of
injuries and illnesses. Texas Western won that year and we ll discuss that importance later. The
other year was the 1973 1974 season. Coach Wooden was ill a good portion of that year and
would retire the next year. This was an amazing run and in my opinion solidified what is the
greatest dynasty in the history of sports. I say this because in college basketball you have

Just Walk On By Brent Staples Analysis
Throughout the course of time, scholars, writers, artists, and others have quested to find their sense
of identity. Identity holds to be one of the most sought after enigmas each being holds within
themselves. It is the idea, hope, or dream that carries one to endless opportunities and limitless
possibilities for oneself. Consequently, with the sense of identity, also comes the sense of being
bound. What one often feels to be their own, the outside world perceives differently, potentially
limiting and binding one to something foreign and false. In the following literary works, each
piece voices its claim to identity and its struggle to rise above the bounds society has set on them.

It was on the streets of Chicago that Staples had awakened to the truth of what society perceives
of him, including other black men in general: a mugger, rapist, or criminal. Staples recalls
instances and occasions where his skin color and build have been the sole cause of twisted events,
stating, The fearsomeness mistakenly attributed to me in public places often has a perilous flavor.
Despite his climb to becoming a well known writer then and is presently today, Staples concludes
that no matter how pure or insignificant his intentions are as a black man to night walk or turn a
corner, the false images society has burdened him with will continue to linger and accompany him
where he goes.

Statement of Purpose for Software Skills
We, Humans are amazing creatures with outstanding ability to dream. Bringing life into that
dream is an art which requires a unique tool. For me, the tool for adding life to my imaginations
is Software Skills. It is the most comfortable medium I could find in the course of my life to
portray my imaginations to the canvas of reality. I always felt that the Software skill is the magic
wand from fairy tales that could create wonders from imagination.
I am, an undergraduate in Computer Science, from a village in Kerala, India. My story of
affection to work with computer and software started from my childhood. The complexities and
the wonders inside a computer box attracted me towards it. There is a specific reason to say so.
When I kid, I participated in a drawing competition sponsored by a detergent company to do a
painting on life ambition. The magic of computer that deceived my thoughts was too strong, so that
I couldn t imagine myself working with something else. I painted a young guy(myself) with blue
shirt sitting in front of a computer and thinking sophisticated ideas. My drawing skills weren t
strong enough to win that competition, But the moment I realized how much I wanted to be
creative with a computer skills.
This ever wanted feeling of exploring new option on computer made me sure that I should go for
specialization on computer programming at higher education. That decision opened me the window

Who Invented The Flour Industry
What did you have for breakfast this morning? Was it cereal or toast these items and many more
contain flour. Without the help of the flour industry you probably wouldn t of been able to eat
those items. The flour industry has been around for many years. It s a big part of history and still
plays a very important role. The flour industry started at least two hundred years ago. The flour
industry is still very important today.
The start of the flour industry was very small. However the reason the flour industry was very
small was that it was just the beginning of it, and many people did not know how profitable it
would be. Another reason it was so small was that many people did not know if it was going to
be a waste of money, because it was very expensive to pay for everything. In order to make this a
successful industry the flour industry would need many employees such as farmers, railroad
workers, machinists who tended to the large machines, barrel makers, packers who caught flour
after it was poured off of the assembly line. Without enough farmers selling wheatto the flour
companies or them having farmers that worked there they didn t have as much wheat to make the
flour. Which meant for the flour companies less flour was able to be made. ... Show more content on

flour company probably wasn t the best decision to make, especially if you didn t have a bunch of
money. A big thing that happened to many companies was that many people were dying because of

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof Misogynist
The Misogynistic Tendencies of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams
In the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof there are three main women in the play they include Margaret
(usually called Maggie), Mae and Big Mama. These three women play an intricate roll in the
play but also have to deal with very misogynistic attitudes toward them. The relationships
between almost all of the characters in the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof has very misogynistic
under tones and overall lack of respect for women. In this essay I will firstly express what the
common role of the women was in the 1950 s. Secondly, I will discuss the misogynistic attitudes
towards the women. And Finally I will discuss the misogynistic attitudes between the women
themselves in this play. During the 1950 s, women had very different roles than they do today.
In the 1950 s one of the main role of the women was bearing children. In the case of Maggie she
was constantly pestered by Big Mama and Big Daddy about not having any children, Big Mama
says to Maggie Something s not right! You re childless and my son drinks (272). This statement by

Not only did the grown women roles objectify each other but even Mae and Grooper s young
daughter Dixie, makes comments that Maggie was jealous because her and Brick can t have

for Big Daddy s attention in order to receive the higher inheritance. Maggie uses her sexual edge to
appeal to Big Daddy while Mae emphasizes Maggie s downfalls. During the act where Maggie

Gladiatorial Contest In Rome Essay
Gladiatorial Contest in Rome
Rome was a warrior state. Since the state was a great fighting state in their time, the wars sort of
formed the gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. The Romans were fascinated and pleasured by
violence, bloodshed, and human suffering the gladiatorial games.
The gladiatorial contests began at the reign of their first emperor Augustus to pay tribute to their
warrior traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns

of Mercury. The people who dragged away the dead bodies were dressed as Pluto, the god of the

procession dressed up as priests and priestesses of pagan cults, before the were thrown to wild
beast naked. All of these events performed presented human sacrifice for religious purposes and in
the memory of the dead.
At the end of the last century B.C., politics became involved in the gladiatorial games, and the
games were viewed more as entertainment than religious and commemorative ceremonies. The
contests were public performances held in the social center of the city, the Forum. The public
started participating in the games due to the splendour of the shows and by the distribution of
meat, and by betting, added more respect to the entire family and the dead. The funerals put on by
aristocrats in the Republic were political acts because if their popularity with citizen electors. The
fancy shows were fueled by competition between aristocrats who wanted to please, excite, and
increase their number of supporters.
In 42 B.C., gladiatorial fights were substituted for chariot races in official games for the first time.
It was then when officers of the state started producing the

A Career As A Nursing Assistant
At 17 years old, I had the grueling task of deciding how I wanted to spend 40 plus years of my
life. I always aspired to land a career in the medical field, so I majored in biology like most pre
med hopefuls, but during my junior year, I no longer desired to become a physician. The
medical field was calling out to me, but the specialty of focus was incorrect. After graduation, I
went back to the basics and put my nursing assistant certification to use. I was introduced to the
field of nursing by assisting my mother and her interdisciplinary team on a hospice case. It
showed me how autonomous the job as a holistic hospice nurse is. The amount of dignity and
care they provided for both the patients and their family during the final phase of their loved
ones life was unfathomable, being able to help maintain the respect for human life not only
physically but spiritually as well was an enriching experience. It gave me an entirely new outlook
on life and death. I fell in love with the amount of compassion and empathy I was able to pour into

The Impacts of Decisions and Outcomes in Hernando Tellez’s...
As human beings, it is inevitable to face moral dilemmas in life. When it comes to decision making
of a complex situation, individuals often consider their own values and consequences to their
actions. Hernando Tellez s Lather and Nothing Else and Edith Pargeter s The Purple Children
demonstrate the conflicts a person has with themselves when approached with a challenging
situation which requires decision making. The barber from Lather and Nothing Else and the sentry
from The Purple Children demonstrate the importance of placing one s own values as a priority
when making a difficult choice because it will allow the individual to make peace with the
outcome. Individuals who give more worth to penalties that would put themselves at risk than those
costs that do not affect them as much are more likely to be content with their decisions. For
example, the temptation of murderthat the Barber felt when shaving Captain Torres was overruled
by the punishments that the Barber would have to encounter, He wouldn t suffer. But what would
I do with the body? Where would I hide it? I d have to run, leaving all of this, take cover far, far
away. But they would follow me until they ran into me. Captain Torres murderer. He cut his throat
while he was shaving him. What a coward (Tellez). This establishes an in depth moral dilemma that
the barber encounters when deciding to give in to his temptations or to stick to his values as a
person. This conflict represents the flood

Susan Sontag Essay
This theory reading has taken a different approach compared to the first theory reading. As some
readings like to dive into the make up behind a photograph, the second theory reading looked at the
camera and by using this camera what it can inform. Susan Sontag talks about how in today s world
and the past, how everything has been photographed. Photographywas a way to escape what was
going on around us. Once the photo was taken, Sontag has stated it guaranteed the photo longevity,
if not immortality (Sontag). She then dives into the difference between paintings and movies
compared to what photographs display. Paintings and movie can lose some of the quality while a
photographdoes not. The next major aspect focused on was the use of photographs. Besides the
idea of immortality, photos today are used for everyday jobs. These... Show more content on

It is amazing how we can fully trust a photograph simply because it gives you second hand
encounter of what was going on. In today s world, I find it amazing that this proof can actually
be tampered with. Thinking about the artists who are experts in changing certain photographs,
they could easily change a photograph to show a different aspect which occurred. A photograph
passes for incontrovertible proof that a given thing happened (Sontag). If an individual has
committed a crime, all the police need is a photograph or a film which shows the individual
clearly and they will face the crime fully. The increase in technology is a positive and a negative.
The idea of people who are experts in the new technology changing the photograph thus changing
the idea of the photograph is the only negative from this idea of using photographs as evidence.
We love to take photographs as much as we can, if they can be used for aspects such as this we
could help change the way our world is possibly run. However, the photographs need to stay loyal

Stop Traffic On Galbraith Road And Preventing Tour Buses...
Construction can have a large impact on its surroundings, including local residents, pedestrians and
vehicular traffic depending on the site s location. For example, many of the sites visited in Toronto
affected traffic as they had frequent deliveries and had to stop traffic to allow this. This includes the
Centre for Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Toronto where
frequent trucks enter and exit to remove excavated soil (***Special Lecture***), stopping trafficon
Galbraith Roadand preventing tour buses from enterring. On the other hand, outside the city,
construction has far less of an impact as there are often multiple lanes for traffic, and little or no
pedestriantraffic. When building in Toronto then, it is important to minimize construction s effect
on pedestrians, vehicle traffic, and local residents if present, since these parties are all impacted by
the decisions made on site.
In our site visits, we examined many sites at varying stages of completion, and noticed how some
of them dealt with construction s effect on the surroundings, as will be discussed here:
Yorkville Plaza II (YP2) 21 Yorkville Avenue Developer: Camrost Felcorp
This site is located in the heart of Toronto s affluent Yorkville neighbourhood, and will be the
home of a 40 storey condo building. It has a luffing crane on site, so overhead protection had to

The Illustrated Man is mainly about exploring technology in different ways. Throughout the book, there are unique ways of showing technology and some weird or different ways too. Ray Bradbury s The Illustrated Manhas a common theme throughout the book. The theme is: Technology is portrayed as failing to make human life better. The story, the Veldt, is about a nursery for two kids that have a mind of their own. They have a nursery but it takes a turn for the worse when they started using the technology against their own parents. In this story, the technology fails by having so much control over the children, because the kids believe they could do as they please. They even lock their own parents in a nursery and put them to death. The point of the nursery is to give children s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Marionettes Inc. the technology fails by being so powerful until it was able to overpower the owner. It overpowered the owner because it was being used so much, and wants to be the owner fulltime, so it made a set up to kill the owner. The point of Marionette s , is to give a person some time to spend for themselves, but in this case, the owner used too much time off and resulted in a bad ending. Don t run! Take your hand off! I m going to put you in the box, lock it and lose the key. Bradbury, pg.243. This quote shows that the Marionette killed its own owner. It did this because the owner spent too much time away. • 4. Sexual Revolution Sexual Revolution Evolution Intimacy is not free in the modern world. Political change, social change, systems of oppression, and globalization all contribute to the shape and to the limit of people s intimate lives. The oppressive regulation of marriage and sexuality by states and cultures can really affect intimacy and incite sexual revolutions. In feminist studies Professor Leila Rupp s lecture, Tickell and Peck were cited as defining globalization as a notion based on an increasingly borderless market, where market rules and competitive logics predominate. In another lecture, Rupp stated that sexual revolutions are linked to and caused by: globalization, economic forces, technology and culture. Rupp expresses that many changes in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in lecture, Sodomy laws are very vague laws that deem any sexual activity that is unnatural is unlawful. Many homosexuals have been victims of this oppressive legislation because homosexuality can be interpreted as an act of sodomy, and act of abnormality. In regards to the 1986 Bowers v. Hardwick Supreme Court decision which upheld Georgia s sodomy law, Georgia s attorney general stated, It is the very act of homosexual sodomy that epitomizes moral delinquency. A gay couple arrested in their own home because they were having sexual relations that were deemed unnatural in the eyes of legislators is the epitome of political oppression. Restrictions on intimacy in private are ridiculousness at its climax. As Rupp confirms, States have an interest in sexuality: because there is a complex relationship between law and culture; what seems private is not. In addition to the Georgia sodomy case, there has been other legislative oppression that constricts intimacy, and intervenes on individual s private lives. In Malawi for example, a gay couple had a public engagement celebration and were arrested and face fourteen years in prison. Displaying love for a companion that is seen as against the norm can place people in prison, and sometimes killed. For example, in Iraq there have been murders of men suspected of being gay and also, the death penalty has been proposed in Uganda for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He mentions that the attitude that is expressed from the government perspective is that these people are really in detention centres and not on a holiday camp, meaning that they have to be behind 3 meter scrim fences, that people have to be housed in venal tents on dirt floors in 40 degree heat. It shows a video of a refugees saying We need your help, 24 hours we didn t get any food, any water. This video interview was very important in creating my view for my rationale and will be very useful as you can hear the pain in the refugee s voice. It gives an insight into the way refugees are treated and that Australia needs to change how we treat them. • 6. Ithaca Chapter 17 Summary Chapter 17: Reimagining Plot and Literary Style in Ithaca Ithaca is the book s most radical attack on the idea of literary style (Lawrence 559). In some versions of Ulysses, Ithaca ends with a bold dot clearly placed in the middle of the page. The dot represents a central crux that concerns much of the critical scholarship surrounding the episode; does the novel come to a conclusion? Does Ulysses have a point ? In his accompaniment to the novel, Gifford refers to the dot as a Q.E.D., an abbreviation of the Latin phrase quod erat demonstrandum. The phrase itself translates to that which was to be proved and, in classical logic proofs and syllogisms, a Q.E.D. marks the conclusion of a problem. Gifford and other critics believe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The homeric parallels from the previous episodes find their way home in Ithaca. In books seventeen through twenty three of The Odyssey, Odysseus, with help form Telemachus, enters Ithaca in disguise. Still unknown to those in the palace, Odysseus strings his great bow and slaughters the suitors who have overrun his home. Much of the action in the chapter accurately corresponds to the action of Homer s epic; Bloom has to enter his house by a stratagem after forgetting his keys (17.84), like Zeus sign of reassurance the liturgical review of Bloom s day is rewarded by a loud lone crack emitted by the insentient material of a strainveined timber table (Joyce 17.2061 62 [Gifford 566]), and most saliently, Bloom kills Molly s suitors in his own right. Near the end of the chapter, he gives a list of the sequence of men in Molly s life. However, this list comes after a meditation of the ephemerality of human importance. He thinks that each one who enters imagines himself a preceding series even if the first term of a succeeding one, each imagining himself to be first, last, only and alone whereas he is neither first last nor only nor alone in a series originating in and repeated to infinity (17.2128 31). Bloom s indifference about Blazes and the other suitors in Molly s life let him transcend the cowardly cuckold narrative that followed him throughout the novel. The suitors cannot take his place, because in an infinite, cycling sequence there is no place to take. Although Odysseus asserts his rightful position through the violent slaughter of men competing for his wife s attention, Bloom defeats the suitors by disregarding their importance all ... • 7. Adult Opposition Theory Murder is a disturbing crime that shocks people when it occurs, however it s more disturbing to think that a child is capable of such a violent and atrocious act. It is often very hard to imagine that a young child can be the source of such extreme violence and act in such an extreme manner. We as adults may not always be able to understand why they commit delinquent acts, or exhibit extremely violent and even commit a heinous crime such as murder. Psychological theories are able to give us some understanding of why these things happen and understanding what drives a juvenile to engage in criminal behavior may be able to ultimately help prevent further delinquency or delinquent behavior taken into account the various factors that are involved.... This just goes to show that children will react to situations in whatever ways they feel are necessary. Sometimes is it hard to explain why a juvenile takes to delinquency due to the high numbers of factors that comes into play, and what causes them to act the way they do. The best thing we can do for juveniles is to help them in any way that fits their unique circumstances and try to show them that there are positive outlets for their anger and frustrations and positive ways of expressing ... • 8. The Psychological Dimension of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The... The Psychological Dimension of The Birthmark This essay will analyze Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark in order to demonstrate that it is a psychological short story both in its themes and in its emphasis on the moral psychological aspect of the main characters. There is probably unanimity among literary critics that Hawthorne is a psychological writer. Consider some of their statements chosen at random from various critiques of Hawthorne s literary works: Stanley T. Williams in Hawthorne s Puritan Mind says: What he wrote of New England was . . . .the subconscious mind of New England. It was. . . . unforgettable case histories of men and women afflicted by guilt, or, as he called it, by a stain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theme is the general concept or doctrine, whether implicit or asserted, which an imaginative work is designed to incorporate and make persuasive to the reader (Abrams 170). Morse Peckham in The Development of Hawthorne s Romanticism explains what he interprets Hawthorne s main theme to be in his short stories: Henceforth Hawthorne s theme is the redemption of the self through the acceptance and exploitation of what society terms the guilt of the individual but which to the Romantic is society s guilt (92). This psychological theme is very much present in The Birthmark. Georgiana feels guilt because of the curious hand shaped birthmark on her cheek; Ayler feels guilt because of his failed experiemnts both early in life and later, including the killing of Georgiana; Aminadab experiences guilt from the loathful expressions which his master uses in reference to the servant. But is guilt the main theme? Clarice Swisher comments: When Hawthorne called his stories romances, he meant that they belong within the romantic movement that . . . . emphasize imagination and personal freedom (18). Where does this personal freedom lead in TheBirthmark except to the alienation of Aylmer from his wife in her death? He is already alienated from Aminadab, who chuckles when he sees Georgiana dying and Aylmer s experiment failing. Is alienation the more dominant theme? Hyatt Waggoner in Nathaniel Hawthorne states: Alienation is perhaps the theme he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Abstract Of Cloning Abstract Cloning is a new branch of medicine. Though medicine is already well developed it will be always evolving. Now the scientists are focused on cloning. Many people seem to be frightened, but progress is inevitable. Cloning can be very beneficial if it is used properly. In order to clone an organism, the scientists must know the structure, function and construction of every single cell in the body. Moreover cloning is a hope for incurably sick people, because the main purpose of cloning is to find new ways to treat patients. Some people may be afraid of cloning, because they are unfamiliar with it. They see it as a threat to humanity, rather than an option to treat and prevent diseases. Recently cloning is becoming more and more popular topic. It is puzzling and intriguing. On one hand it seems to be frightening, but on the other hand it is evolutionary. As a new branch of medicine, cloning technology needs to be developed even more, because cloning is beneficial for developing the knowledge of humankind. Scientists need huge effort in order to clone. They need to know every single cell of the body, its function, and construction. By gaining that knowledge, they will know every aspect of an organism. Cloning is a perfect method to discover new treatments for incurably sick people. Cloning is beneficial for developing the knowledge about the human kind, and there are plenty of reasons to prove that. For example, thanks to cloning the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Turn Pete Seeger Song Essay Musician, song writer, and social activist, Pete Seeger wrote the hit Turn! Turn! Turn!, which was popularly covered by the American rock band, The Byrds. Seeger adapted the lyrics from Ecclesiastes chapter 3. Before delving deeper into the meaning of Ecclesiastes 3 in class, I would have seen little to no difference between the meaning of the Bible and the meaning of the Seeger song. For me initially, both the song and chapter expressed the notion of life s beautiful and dark times: the time for joyously dancing about the room or the time for feeling frozen with grief. But, when reading and discussing Ecclesiastes in class, I finally read the verses in a larger context. As a whole book Ecclesiastes has a more negative tone, even expressing the uselessness or the meaninglessness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Editors of the text even potentially added concluding remarks to the controversial messages of Ecclesiastes in order to remind the reader that their actions do in fact matter, because they need to follow the word of God and his commandments. But, for me, the Seeger song has a more comforting, much more widely applicable and more secular meaning, despite the fact that its lyrics come directly from the Bible. The song alludes more to my initial interpretation of the verses, because the words stand alone, without the greater context of Ecclesiastes. A line from both the verses and the song that I find troubling is the suggestions that there should be a time of war, and a time of peace. I had trouble finding an explanation as to why the Bible would promote having a time for war, while there obviously had been times of war and there would be more times of war, it seems odd that the Bible would make war an inevitable. Should there really be a time for war? As I have come to study the Old Testament with more questions and with greater analysis, I see and contemplate the violence of it. • 17. Home Depot Present Value Essay To calculate the present value for Home Depot we must evaluate and understand their 10 k statement. We were given an interest rate of 8% and to evaluate the capital leases from 2015 2019 and then calculate the present value (please see excel spreadsheet for more detail). It was determined that the total present value throughout 2015 2019 is equal to $425.78 (in millions). This is an important figure and should be closely monitored and reviewed for future decisions, as it could greatly affect the company s ability to make future payments. If the risk of the company changes the obviously the present value will change as well. For example, if the interest rate were to change from 8% to 5% the total present value would increase to $460.69 (in millions). If we were to use the example above with a 5% interest rate, and a present value of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Net present value and the risk have a strong relation with each other. With inappropriate assessment of risk, one cannot arrive at a correct or near correct net present value. Net present value of any asset or investment is the present worth of that asset or investment based on analysis of future returns using appropriate discounting rate. A risk is an uncertainly attached to the future cash flows (efinancemanagement.com). A lower risk means an increase in the company s present value and future values. In the examples provided so far if the interest rate were to stay at 8% the future value of the company would be $488.62 (in millions) compared to a 5% interest rate and a future value of $587.97 (in millions). That is a difference of $99.35 (in millions) for potential profit when the company is sold. In present value terms when the rate is 8% the present value is $425.78 (in millions). compared to 5% and $460.69 (in millions). Occupiers liability is a negligence tort that imposes liability on occupants of land for harm suffered to visitors of the property. For this case, Skyway can argue that as CCRL is an employer to Skyway, and that CCRL has entered a contractual agreement with the plaintiff, there is an established relationship between the parties. To further illustrate a relationship, Skyway was invited onto the job site to perform services for CCRL, thus making the plaintiff an invitee. The plaintiff is arguing that the defendant owes Skyway the standard of care to a safe working environment. As outlined in The Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) Regulations, RRS c S 15 Reg 6 ( OH S ), every worker has the right to a safe working environment. A safe workplace was not provided because of CCLR s negligence in maintaining the environment. Facility pipes that were due for replacement in 2010 were not changed. There is an obligation for occupiers to ensure that reasonable steps are taken to prevent foreseeable injuries. As the pipe, which caused the explosion, should have been replaced in 2010, the defendant did not take reasonable action to prevent this event. • 21. Comparing Aristotle And David Hume There are two significant empiricists I m going to focus on, Aristotle and David Hume. Specifically, the focus is on their ethics: what those ethics are, how they differ from each other, and which is superior. Superiority will be determined by the philosophy s usefulness whether the epitome of a philosophy s virtue is attainable by man; and how conducive the philosophy is to human happiness. In both of these respects, Aristotle is superior to Hume. To Aristotle, ethics is not an exact science, it s ruled by broad generalizations that work most of the time and are found with those of experience, the men of practical wisdom (Nicomachean Ethics, 1094b15 1095a10). We don t need a focused study in the sciences to understand the good, all one needs is a proper understanding of how the external aspects of life: friendship, pleasure, honor, and wealth operate in concert. No aspects of friendship, pleasure, honor, and wealth ought to be practiced too much (excess) or too little (deficient); moral virtue is action performed between two extremes (Nic. Ethics, 1106b5 25). And it is by consultation that one may find the middle ground between excess and deficiency, The Golden Mean (Nic. Ethics, 1097b5 20; Nic. Ethics, 1104a10 25). Virtue is, by definition, the excellent performance of an object s function (Nic. Ethics, 1097b25 30). A thing s function is determined by eliminating every ability that isn t exclusive to what it is to be that thing (Nic. Ethics, 1097b30 1098a5). For example, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. The Social And Its Effect On Society The social is unstable, it s able to be a wide variety of different groups or eras. Desires from the social are changing everyday. Society and culture today is influencing the types of music that is considered popular today. In many ways the race and class has become normative, and has a place in popular culture, with that said the social is vaguely changing, and is dependent on the factors argued. I will argue we can see the social in the music through the pleasure received from music, through cultural values, and desire, and symbolic control. The social can be seen in music through repetition, repetition generates a sense of pleasure to people. Society appreciates familiarity we enjoy catchy predictable songs, and that familiarity could be achieved through repetition. There are two types of repetitions in music, such as musematic riffs, and discursive riffs. Musematic riffs is more basic than discursive, and is the repetition of shorter units throughout the song. Discursive repetition is the repetition of longer units, at the level of phase, and is based towards the self, and ego. According to middleton repetition helps the listener get into a different space, changing the mood and gain some symbolic control. Repetition is often associated with the phenomenon of being sent , particularly in relation to hypnotic rhythmic repetitions and audience trance: a collective! loss of the self.(Middleton pg 19) For example the condition of production influenced culturally ... Moreover, it is with the utmost importance, that the courts strategize, on how to empower and motivate parent s participation and involvement. The most obvious or realistic approach, would be to utilize studies with concrete outcomes and conclusion, or expound on, or develop a study or focus group identifying the parents needs, parenting style, barriers, and other challenges that makes parental involvement difficult. Thus, it would allow the implementation of practical and viable solutions, specifically changing the systemic problems, empowering parents, and forging a collaborative relationship between the juvenile justice system, the community, and parents. Some things, should to be immediately done, such as treating parents with empathy and respect, understanding that they have rights and should be informed of those rights. Some of the apparent rights of the parents are fair treatment with dignity and respect, the rights to know what the courts expects of them, and informed of all scheduled court dates and appointments, which could be inserted in a pamphlet. The overall benefit would be to work together in a collaborative effort to help reduce the recidivism rate among youth and lessen the inconvenient burden of the parents, community and juvenile justice system. A Risk Engineering Approach to Project Management Project Management A project is a group activity temporary in nature projected to achieve a desired result, service or product in a unique manner (Chapman, 2007). A project is termed as temporary since it has a set start and finish time period and is undertaken with defined resources and within a set scope. The operations within a project are unique since they do not rely on the routing operations. Rather, a set of operations are designated to meet the desired target. From this understanding, it is deduced that project management will entail the process of meeting the set goals for a particular activity. According to (Chapman, 2007), project management is the strategic deployment of skills, knowledge and techniques to accomplish specific set goals efficiently and effectively. Project management deviates away from normal organization operations to achieve predefined targets. • 35. Boston Marathon Bombing Speech Essay In his speech at the Interfaith Service after the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama effectively used language to describe the tragedy that had occurred, reference people who were affected by the events, and to encourage the nation to stand up and stay strong. This use of language allowed him to capture the attention of the audience and clearly make his point known. President Obama s use of language painted a picture of Boston, both before and after the bombings, and brought forward emotions from those who heard his speech. Use of imagery was essential in the President s speech, as it allowed him to describe Boston in a way that made the entire country feel as though they were directly involved in the attack, even though the majority were not involved at all. Phrases such as sunlight glistened off the statehouse dome and spring was in bloom allowed those listening to or reading President Obama s speech to feel as though they were there that morning and sense the peace that had been there before the bombings took place. Another use of imagery, her red hair and her freckles and her ever eager willingness to speak her mind allowed spectators to develop a picture in their minds of one of the victims. Being able to picture the victims forged an emotional attachment that made everyone want to stand strong for those who could not.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some say that this contributed to the unpopularity of the game during their reigns because the outcomes were too predictable. In the NBA, the Minnesota Lakers had a dynasty going; led by Mikan, they won championships in 5 of 6 seasons from 1949 to 1954. Even as the league changed its rules, and as Mikan s scoring dipped, the Lakers rolled. However, the game itself was becoming harder to watch. The Boston Celtics would continue where Minnesota left off. It started in 1957, when the Boston Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks in a tough best of seven game series. That was the first of an incredible 11 championships in 13 seasons. Some say that the Celtics Destiny is the most incredible in history but the UCLA Bruins college basketball team might have something to say about that. For 12 seasons, beginning with the 1963 1964 season, Coach John Wooden and the Bruins won a record 10 NCAA titles; including seven in a row. The only years they did not win were 1965 66 season where they had a bad run of injuries and illnesses. Texas Western won that year and we ll discuss that importance later. The other year was the 1973 1974 season. Coach Wooden was ill a good portion of that year and would retire the next year. This was an amazing run and in my opinion solidified what is the greatest dynasty in the history of sports. I say this because in college basketball you have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s a big part of history and still plays a very important role. The flour industry started at least two hundred years ago. The flour industry is still very important today. The start of the flour industry was very small. However the reason the flour industry was very small was that it was just the beginning of it, and many people did not know how profitable it would be. Another reason it was so small was that many people did not know if it was going to be a waste of money, because it was very expensive to pay for everything. In order to make this a successful industry the flour industry would need many employees such as farmers, railroad workers, machinists who tended to the large machines, barrel makers, packers who caught flour after it was poured off of the assembly line. • 47. The Impacts of Decisions and Outcomes in Hernando Tellez’s... As human beings, it is inevitable to face moral dilemmas in life. When it comes to decision making of a complex situation, individuals often consider their own values and consequences to their actions. Hernando Tellez s Lather and Nothing Else and Edith Pargeter s The Purple Children demonstrate the conflicts a person has with themselves when approached with a challenging situation which requires decision making. The barber from Lather and Nothing Else and the sentry from The Purple Children demonstrate the importance of placing one s own values as a priority when making a difficult choice because it will allow the individual to make peace with the outcome. Individuals who give more worth to penalties that would put themselves at risk than those costs that do not affect them as much are more likely to be content with their decisions. For example, the temptation of murderthat the Barber felt when shaving Captain Torres was overruled by the punishments that the Barber would have to encounter, He wouldn t suffer. But what would I do with the body? Where would I hide it? I d have to run, leaving all of this, take cover far, far away. But they would follow me until they ran into me. Captain Torres murderer. Construction can have a large impact on its surroundings, including local residents, pedestrians and vehicular traffic depending on the site s location. This includes the Centre for Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Toronto where frequent trucks enter and exit to remove excavated soil (***Special Lecture***), stopping trafficon Galbraith Roadand preventing tour buses from enterring. On the other hand, outside the city, construction has far less of an impact as there are often multiple lanes for traffic, and little or no pedestriantraffic.
