Female Athlete Triad
The female athlete triad is a potentially serious condition affecting many women and is particularly
common among young women participating in sports. The female athlete triad is a condition consists
of three clinical entities includes, menstrual dysfunction, low energy availability and decreased bone
mineral density. This complex disorder was first invented by the American college of sports medicine
in 1992 after many experts in the filed had noticed a pattern among adolescent and young adult female
athlete patients. Low bone density is a dangerous result of the triad, and the degree of low bone
mineral density in young patients is significantly dependent on age of onset and duration of
amenorrhea. Low energy availability play an important

Relationship Between The Relationship In Pirates Of The...
An important relationship that is shown in the visual text Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black
Pearl (2003), directed by Gore Verbinski was between two main characters, Captain Jack Sparrow and
Will Turner. Their relationship was one of the most important in the film as it shows us how these two
characters have changed their perspectives of the world and most importantly, towards each other.
There are several examples of how their relationship changes throughout. At the beginning of the film,
Jack considers Will as a lame commoner and Will was quite stereotypical about Jack being a pirate .
Their animosity and hatred were quite mutual given their respective backgrounds. As the movie
progresses, this relationship is more about one s own benefits. They realise and understand each other
s strengths and weaknesses well and use each other selfishly. Towards the end, this selfish attitude
matures into friendship. At the beginning of the film, Jack and Will had completely different opinions
about each other. Jack Sparrow, a clever, cunning and calculated man saw Will as a lay man and would
find it hard to believe that they would become friends. Pirates in those days or even today are
considered hard core criminals. Will being raised as a common man, irrespective of his past also think
the same. The Black Pearl being at the pinnacle of evilness people consider the pirates on that ship to
be the worst of mankind. The slightest hint that Jack Sparrow is associated with the

How Women s Roles in History are Different of Those Today

How Women s Roles in History are Different of Those Today In the last three decades women s roles
in society have changed. We are now seen as more than just a pretty face that can cook, clean, and take
care of our children. Throughout history, we have seen more and more of these gender roles, and also
viewed differently in the past. Women played a major role in prehistory to 1500 CE. So, what roles did
women play in society at that time? Were they treated or viewed differently or the same as men this
this time? In this essay I will be trying to answer these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But still at this time men were viewed differently than women were viewed. In the Era of Confucius,
80 CE, women didn t matter that much at all. However as I read in the article, Lessons for a woman, a
women took it upon herself to create how she feels her and her daughters should be taught and what
their customs are. The rules that she expects women to follow are somewhat practical. She states that
women should be respectful and Put others before herself. A women should go to bed late but rise
early to get her chores and daily duties done. It also states on how married men and women should act.
It also states that a woman should have four qualifications, womanly virtue, womanly words,
womanly bearing, and womanly work. It was important back then for a woman to be seen and not
heard. Again women still had the rough life and were only viewed as mothers and house wives back in
this time period. In the Mayan Empire women varied according to class. The wealthy women had
slaves and other servants who met their every need. Poor women like farmer s wives had to cook, care
for their children weave or sew and help their husbands grow crops. The wealthier women did not
have any political power. Also these women could be used as pawns in marriage to secure better
diplomatic relations between cities or between families, as was done in other societies at the time

Social Media And Its Effects On Society
hrough social media many people can connect and come together. It is a form of communication that
humans have become adapted to. A popular type of social media is Facebook. Facebook not only gives
the ability to find old friends, but new ones as well. It creates a whole new image of a person,
regardless if it is true. It allows all races and genders to express their true selves through posts of
images and texts, including women. From the beginning of society women have been perceived as
weak and unable to take care of themselves. Through technology such as social media and Facebook,
women are allowed to be more than their stereotypical images. Rights did not come easy for women,
they had to work for it due to the early stereotypes made against them about being inferior to men.
However, even with Facebook women still have a hard time. The possibility of harassment increases
through social media. Although, social media such as Facebook allows women with many
opportunities to be more than society thinks they can be, there are also consequences such as
provocation, restriction and psychological problems. Donna Haraway, author of A Cyborg Manifesto
viewed technology as mostly positive. Technology creates people just as much as they create it. Her
definition of what a cyborg truly is, [that a] cyborg is a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and
organism, a creature of social reality as well as a creature of fiction captures the idea of humans
becoming cyborgs due to

The Vasa Gunship Catastrophe
Introduction
In 1626, the Swedish gunship, Vasa, was constructed for war against Poland. King Gustav II of
Sweden spared no expense and demanded the ship be the grandest, most prestigious watercraft ever
created. His demand was fulfilled, however due to continuous design changes, inadequate
communication, and a stringent timeline, the ship was poorly constructed. As a result, Vasa sunk after
sailing only 1,000 yards, perishing 50 men and all of the war supplies.
1. Who is responsible for this catastrophe?
In this case, it is difficult to blame one individual for the Vasa catastrophe because several decision
makers were involved. Still, King Gustav s numerous design alterations complicated construction and
pressured decision makers into accommodating his irrational demands. Additionally, King Gustav did
not communicate well with the shipbuilders, admiral, and seamen, and instead solely concentrated on
outshining other ships. Therefore, his lacking leadership and communication created confusion and
stress, which trickled down and ultimately led to the failure.
2. Were there any inappropriate risks that should not have been taken? How can these be identified
and mitigated on future shipbuilding initiatives?
During construction, there were several inappropriate risks taken. For example, time was not invested
into accurately drawing engineering plans that accommodated the King s requests to increase the size
of the keel and number of guns. Additionally, when the principal

Alice Walker Everyday Use Symbolism
Alice Walker, author of the short story, Everyday Use, uses a plethora of symbolisms to depict various
situations and provoke the mind of the reader to think relatively deep in analyzing her literary work.
Intricately, symbolism refers to the representation of one item or idea in the form of another with an
aim of creating an understandable meaning of a particular societal situation through a narration.
Symbols are majorly a form of words or objects. Symbolism is a crucial literary element that is widely
used by writers to present their ideologies creatively. Significantly, literature authors always have an
objective to exert symbolism in their writings. Similarly, Alice Walker uses symbolism to symbolize
various situations in her literature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Mama s perception, the inside of the house is less comfortable than the outside,
regardless of the inside being clean and the outside being dirty at times. The narrator illustrates this
point when she states, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. (p. 494) The
comfortability of the yard embraces a symbolic place of hospitality and comfort. As stated by Cropley,
A favorite place is a place where we feel comfortable and relaxed. (Cropley) Comparably, the main
reason why the yard is prepared is to convey hospitality for when Dee arrives. As stated in the text, I
will wait for her in the yard that Maggie and I made so clean and wavy yesterday afternoon. (p. 494)
Before Dee s arrival, Mama gives a vivid description of the visual aspect and cleanliness of the yard,
whereas Dee is expected to be symbolically welcomed into the spotless yard, which presents comfort
and hospitality. Furthermore, Mama shows an enormous preference of the yard that often gets breezes
that never come inside the house. (p. 494) For instance, most of the discussion about the quilt is
carried out in the yard rather than inside the house. As the narrator points out, It is not just a yard. It is
like an extended living room. (p. 494) The yard was a personal space for both, Maggie and Mama,
who felt open and free to discuss anything in the yard, which symbolizes the small extent of the
setting where they can control their lives, relax, and clear their thoughts. The author, Mark Cropley,
states .... It is your space, a space to regulate your emotions, a place to relax, calm down, and clear
your mind. (Cropley) Therefore, the yard is equally as important to the quilt, since the story begins at
the yard and ends at the very same place. In addition. the yard symbolizes a place of solitude and
reflection. Symbolically, the yard presents the difficulties

Project Objectives Of Femtosecond Light Fields
Project objective and Excepted Significance:
This work aims to demonstrate petahertz optical field induced current signal control in electronic
nanocircuit utilizing synthesized femtosecond light fields. That promises an increase in the speed of
data processing and information encoding on rates that exceed 1 Pbit/sec, million times faster than the
current technology. It will likely extend the frontiers of modern electronics and information processing
technologies into the PHz realm. This work will have a broad impact on the advancements of
nanophotonics technologies, most notably in fiber based telecommunications networks and the
photonic computing field and opening a new realm of information technology.
Basic principle: In this work, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The produced net charge can be detected by ammeter connected to the two electrodes. This
photoinduced current signal inside the nanocircuit is following the driver laser field instantaneously3

Experimental approach:
Light field synthesis. The PI is very capable to lead this project to the ultimate success. He engineered
and developed the unique LFS device (Fig. 1). Also, he demonstrated a full control of synthesizing
light field waveforms from the LFS with attosecond (10 18s) temporal resolution on demand in
(Nature 530, 66 70, (2016). The basic idea of the LFS apparatus (Fig. 1) is based on dividing a
supercontinuum laser light ( 2 octaves) into four different laser spectral channels. The laser pulse of
each channel is compressed to their Fourier limit (shortest duration) before all the pulses coherently
superimpose at the exit of the apparatus and forming one laser broadband short (2 fs) pulse. The
tailoring of the waveform at the exit is possible by controlling the relative phases and intensities of the
four spectral channels inside the synthesizer. This tailoring process is automatized to obtain the
desired waveform of the output electric field by a programming code developed by the PI1,2. This

The Effects of Vladimir Lenin on Russia
Weak and unstable in its revolution and a battle on the Eastern Front, Communism weeded its way
into Russia and changed the lives of millions of people. Under the influence of Lenin and his
principles events such as the Red Terror, overall famine, and slave labor camps became the country s
reality. Russia participation in the war may have been stopped, but the consequences were much
greater. However, this could have never happened without Germany s interference in the February
Revolution of Russia, helping Vladimir Lenin return to Russia with his Marxist ideals and push the
provisional government out of office. The effects Communism had on ... Show more content on

To the Bolsheviks disappointment, the new government kept Russian involvement in The Great War
and the two front war stayed persistent for Germany. With Lenin seeking passage into Russia and the
government showing no intention of letting him, it wasn t until Germany s financial support that he
able to sneak into the country via train.
The effects that Lenin s arrival first had on the Bolsheviks party began with the weakening of the
provisional government, primarily ending Russia s fight in the war. Lenin had been gathering
supporters since the 1890s with those apart of the forces in the war, alongside other supporters,
travelling worldwide and spreading his word of Marxist ideals and a Russia that was no longer
wrapped up in World War One. It wasn t long before he garnered enough manpower to seize control
and caused a great deal of uproar when he had turned the Russian Army against the Russian
provisional government to completely wash Prime Minister Kerensky out. After seizing railroad
stations, telegraph lines, and government offices, and subsequently sending out the people elected
provisional government, Lenin was able to intimidate the elected government out of office and have
control.
But the people were upset, their votes for Kerensky were ignored and it would only be the beginning
for more strife. Once in office, he sought to end the conflict with Germany and achieved this through

The United States And The Great Depression
To Americans, Australia may seem like a completely distant and disconnected land just because of
how far it is and because it is technically and island. However, the fact of the matter is that Australia,
just like most of the places colonized by Great Britain, is still considered a western country. That
along with the interconnectedness of a globalized economy makes it so that Australia is still affected,
both positively and negatively, by the changes of the United States and Britain. Such was the case
when the United States suffered what is now known as the great depression in 1929. The great
depression spread throughout most western countries and beyond and Australia was no exception.
Australia was hit with the depression not long after the United States and it reached its peak in 1932.
The depression hit Australia quite hard and the economic recovery was fairly slow and lasted until just
about the beginning of the Second World War. This was partly due to having a number of badly
implemented policies by a disputing government. While some say that it was the Premiers Plan that
led the country out of the depression others argue that there was no one single policy or plan
responsible but rather a combination of many. One act that had a hand in leading Australia out of the
great depression was the devaluation of the currency.
Explanation of chosen theory:
To first understand the situation that Australia was in during the great depression and all of the events

Tenets Behind Change Theory
Action research is simply defined as research in action in an institution (Argryis and Schon, 1996).
Lewin (1997) is the researcher behind change theory. Understanding the tenets behind change theory
and its application to this product would or would have not demonstrated the student attitudes toward
other cultures when researching other cultures. The theoretical underpinnings of action research are
based on the following three steps by Kurt Lewin (1997) called a process of change or Change theory:
Plan, action, and results. Change theory rallies for a three step process by disassembling a negative
mindset in order to modify it for a new way of thinking. These three steps consist of unfreezing,
changing, and then freezing (Lewin, 1997). Under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The capstone product helped to incorporate ethnography, a testing system, which measured human
behavior, and pre post surveys to document the pre and post beliefs, student behaviors, and
paralinguistic cues (Ladner, 2014). Argryis and Schon (1994) built upon the work of Kurt Lewin by
focusing on the behaviors of stakeholders and then considered how governing variables could drive
these behaviors in institutions. Argryis and Schon (1994) determined that these variables were
distinguishable between two theories called theory in use and the espoused theory. The espoused
theory represented the intended behaviors based on individuals values, but the theory in use applied to
the behaviors that were occurring. These governing variables fell under two models of systems
thinking, which were model 1 and model 2. Both of these models were based on theories in use.
Model 1 behaviors focused on governing variables such as controlling the environment, believing that
the personal views were the only ones, and being defensive in nature. Model 2 behaviors exhibited
shared control, where a freedom of choice was permitted and relationships were marginally

Mandatory Sentencing Laws For Repeat Offenders
In the 1990s, states began to execute mandatory sentencing laws for repeat offenders. This statute
became known as three strike laws . The three strikes law increases prison sentence for people
convicted of a felony. If you have two or more violent crimes or serious felonies, it limits the ability
that offenders have to receive a punishment other than life sentencing. By 2003 over half of the states
and federal government had enacted the three strike laws . The expectation behind it was to get career
criminals off the street for the good of the public. However, the laws have their connoisseurs who
charge sentences that are often excessive to the crimes committed and that incarcerate of three strike
inmates for 25 years to life. Nevertheless, the US Supreme Court has upheld three strike laws and had
rejected the fact that they amount to cruel and unusual punishment. The state of Washington passed
the first three strikes law in 1993. Anyone convicted of three separate violent felonies must be
sentenced to life in prison without a chance for parole. Then on March 8th, 1994, California followed
by enacting the law that sanctioned a sentence of 25 years to life for a third felony conviction.
Contrary to Washington, the California law counts nonviolent felonies, such as burglary and theft as
strike offences; by 2001, over 50,000 criminals had been penalized under the new law, far more than
any other state, with almost a quarter of the prisoners facing a minimum of 25 years

The Negative Effects Of Media Violence In The Media
While viewing and looking at many articles about violence portrayed in the media, I noticed that many
violent images in the media such as movies, videogames, and music have inspired people to commit
large amounts of violent acts, such as committing assaults and murders. It is proven that children can
he affected by the violence in media, when they are at a small age. When adults, some can be more
aggressive than others, and some may commit more crimes than others. Over 1,000 case studies have
proven that media violence can have negative effects on children. It increases aggressiveness and

He has concluded that they went on their shooting rampage at Columbine High School after their
parents took away their video game privileges. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold had a video game
addiction for years. They were addicted to watching the violence through their tv screens, and when
that was taken away from them, they snapped. The violence in video games today is too much for a
child. Yes, video game companies rate them specifically for one age, but does anyone really follow
that?
When you tune into the news, how many of their stories are actually good news, involving happy
events? Most of them today involve burglaries and break ins, shootings, killings, deaths and so on. In
reality, many believe that the media distorts crimes. Media, such as the news, gives the impression that
crime is increasing, and becoming more violent than it already is. Wilson, B. (2012), also explains that
violence portrayed in the media also has an affect on children, they start to develop fear and anxiety
from the stories or images that are being portrayed. The media is very selective when it comes to what
it wants to show. For example, an individual news channels can also choose what stories are told to

Copper Release Essay
METHODS AND APPROACH
A. Research Objective #1: Determine the Rate and Amount of Copper Release from Treated Wood by
Fungal Exposure to Four Copper Tolerant Brown Rot Fungi
Introduction. In this objective, rate and amount of copper release will be measured while fungus is

(Postia placenta, Serpula lacrymans, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fibroporia radiculosa) have different
copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis by using
the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. Fungus growth will be conducted on
ACQ and CCA treatments, and percentage of copper release will be analyzed by Inductively Coupled

depending on the AWPA standard A7 method (AWPA 2012b). For extraction, the samples (around 1g)
will be weighed into a microwave digestion tube and nitric acid will be added on to that. Digestion
tubes will be sealed into digestion vessels and placed into a microwave oven for a pre programmed
digestion sequence. After the digestion was complete, each vessel will be quantitatively brought up to

The Effect Of Temperature, Hormones And Blocking Agents On...
This lab was performed to examine the function of the heart in frogs and observe the effects of
temperature, hormones and blocking agents on autonomic control. It was found that when the heart
was bathed with cold saline, the mean amplitude of heart contraction decreased by 35%, and the mean
heart rate decreased by 34% when compared to the amplitude and heart rate with warm saline. When
varying concentrations of acetylcholine were put on the heart, there was very little change in the
amplitude of heart contraction. Similarly, there was very little change in heart rate when using
concentrations of 10 8 to 10 5 M of acetylcholine, but heart rate dropped 20% from 10 5 to 10 4.
When d tubocurarine was used as a blocking agent, heart rate increased 31%. Similar results were
found when using adrenaline on the heart. There was very little change in amplitude of heart
contraction, but there was a 15% increase in heart rate from 10 5M to 10 4M, with little fluctuations
between 10 8M and 10 5M. When propranolol was applied, mean heart rate decreased by 11%.

This paper explores published works related to patients who received the flu vaccine who were sixty
five years and older. The evaluated articles examine the effectiveness the flu vaccine had on the
patient population of sixty five years and older in relation to avoiding the flu and pneumonia diseases
and hospitalizations, in this group of patients. It has been conceded for years that senior adults age
sixty five and older are at greater risk from an influenza illness and pneumonia than a vigorous young
adult. It has been projected that between 71 percent and 85 percent of seasonal flu related loss of life

Qualitative and Quantitative Studies
In patients sixty five years and older how does the use of an influenza vaccine contrasted to not
obtaining the vaccine reduce their chance of acquiring pneumonia during the flu season? In 2005,
pneumococcal disease and influenza were the eighth leading cause of death in the United States and
the primary cause of infection related mortality for all age groups (Assaad, El Masri, Porhayman, El
Sohl, 2012, p. 453). Vaccination for influenza is widely identifiable as one of the most efficient and
cost effective public health interventions. (Wheelock, Thomson, Sevdalis, 2013, p. 893).
Approximately 90% of deaths caused by these illnesses occur among adults sixty five years of age or
older. It is hypothesized that the impairment to the airway epithelial lining triggered by influenza
fosters bacterial growth, and that in turn bacterium derived proteases boost virus related virulence.
There are several studies that have been established that show vaccinating the population of older
patients, aged sixty five and older, has shown a decrease in developing pneumonia during flu season.
In a sizable study that included Swedish patients aged ≥ than 65 years old showed that immunization
with the flu vaccine resulted in a 29% decrease in the occurrence of all cause pneumonia and a 35%
drop in the death rate from all cause pneumonia in the vaccine group. Moreover, patients who were

The following essay examines the definitions of organized crime from the Federal Bureau of
Investigations and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Furthermore, the research examines
how the two definitions relate to or are applicable to the Medellin Cartel of Columbia led by Pablo
Escobar. In addition, this essay provides an analysis of Columbia s social climate during Escobar s
reign and its contribution to his outlaw sense of social justice. Furthermore, this essay inspects the real
Escobar against his self image, how he signed his death warrant with the CIA/DEA and how his
weaknesses were discovered then used against him resulting in the collapse of his organization and his
expiration.

These two definitions relate to and are applicable to Escobar who organized and led the Medellin
cartel of Columbia. Escobar aligned himself with an extensive network of individuals each duty bound
to handle a majority of his affairs. This network was divided into subgroups, each delegated to their
special assigned category that included, but not limited to, finances, social, military, personal, family,
public, economic, political, law enforcement, and the media. These groups and sub groups in return
received an unlimited amount of resources to handle affairs and protection from authorities or anyone
attempting to interfere or disrupt their business. By creating several branches to facilitate his
organization, this permitted his growth in influence and dominance. Each group separately handled his
outlets which afforded him the opportunity to succeed in many ways, but ultimately resulted in failure
as he became a distracted, confused, and disoriented leader. His organization was large, but through
his own mistakes or missteps the organization was dismantled further contributing to his expiration.
The organization was largely controlled by money and through violence. On a large scale, the
organization stretched out from his country to other countries that was well controlled allowing for
enormous profits and great power. Escobar sought compliance in every form and by any means
necessary.

During the 21st century our country and our planet as a whole is in energy crisis. We have used too
many oils and fossil fuel that our non renewable resources are running out. Oil is limited and is at
outrageous prices, this result is making our economy suffering. With fossil fuel and oil as the main
source of energy the people of this planet need to start looking for an alternative energy source
because our fossil fuel will not last forever and fossil fuel also polluted our planet. This is where a
renewable energy comes in. I will start talking about one of the oldest renewable energy know to man,
one of the many renewable energy we have today are Geothermal Energy. Geothermal energy is one

Geologist who have studied geothermal energy uses the sonar, heat ray and satellite imagery to
determine where are most of the geothermal activity going on. They still have to be careful to dig
underground to find the perfect heat and water to build their power plant. There are four main kinds of
geothermal resources; they are hydrothermal, Geo pressured, hot dry rock and magma. The most
common use is the hydrothermal resource. Hydrothermal resources have a common ingredient of
water and heat. This geothermal reservoir of steam or hot water occur naturally were magma comes
close enough to the surface to heat the ground. Water circulates at great depth along the faults.
Hydrothermal resources are used for many different energy purposes depending on the temperature.
When low temperature occurs, it is a direct use for heating. The other kinds are the high temperature it
produce electricity. When temperature of geothermal energy occurs around 104.444 Celsius it can
used to generate electricity. Geothermal power in Australia is not much but it is still growing process,
just like the rest of the world. There are a known and potential location nears the center of Australia
that can be used to for geothermal power plant. The earth is hotbed of geothermal energy. The most
active geothermal resource is usually found near major earthquakes and volcanoes. One of the places

Central Park Research Paper
Unlike the classic patterned gardens, for example the French Garden Jardin du Chateau de Versailles,
Central Park was influenced by the Britain Romantic Landscape movement in the 18th C. Trees,
lawns, rocks, lakes, and even the paths inside Central Park were imitations of what the British called
the landscape. Central Park reproduced the natural landscape and created a picturesque beauty which
matched people s imagination of the rural landscape nature gently tamed. Today covered with
luxuriant vegetation and surrounded by skyscrapers, Central Park not only looks like but functions as
an oasis in New York City. Looking at the rectangular site of New York s Central Park, it seems that

methods of dealing with short/long term changes in capacity demand).
Planning at Jos A. Banks started with a broad figure of the ranges and aggregate counts of fabric
needed by type: plains, stripes, herringbones and plaids. Then it was broke down to quantities of
specific fabric needed and then it was broke down by what needed to be cut and assembled for entire
season. From there weekly batches were planned on monthly basis.
The production schedule ran in 8 week cycles and 2 weeks of that was given to cutting. The rest was

The company had few complaints, but there was a formal system in place that involved the first line
supervisor at the first level, the plant manager at the second level, and the vice president at the third
level. Discipline started with verbal warnings, then escalated to written warnings, then suspensions,
and the of course the final straw meant termination. This job also included medical coverage, life
insurance, and a pension plan.
4. Identify significant issues pertaining to materials management within the process (i.e. inventory
management, supplier selection, etc.)
Jos A. Bank began spring planning in March and continued through June. They dealt with many
different mills some for as long as 30 years, but they would spot buy for some specialty items. They
had enough experience to know which mill they wanted to produce which fabric for them.
Fabric arrived in summer for inspection and any pre shrinking that needed to be done, but most fabric
came needle ready. Cutting began in August. Finished products were delivering to the distribution
center in October and to the stores in December.
The manufacturing department had nothing to do with fabric ordered. They only dealt with the
ordering of trim items. They always used two vendors to supply each of these items. The split of
which vendor got the larger portion awarded to them depended on price. The merchandising
department was responsible for the ordering of all fabric. For Jos A. Banks it

Tilted Arc
The Destruction of Public Art Tilted Arc (Figure 1) was brought down on the 15th of March of 1989
by the General Services Administration (GSA) in the centre of New York s federal plaza. Tilted Arc
was a site specific work of a curved steel wall or barrier, that was 120 feet long and 12 feet high, with
an arch that gave the effect of the wall leaning inwards. The GSA commissioned Richard Serra to
build a sculpture for the Art in Architecture program that would be placed in the plaza in front of the
Jacob K Davits Federal building. The work was set up in 1981 and received a few critical comments.
However, it was only when William Diamond, an appointee GSA New York Regional Administrator,
started to investigate a bit more that he created substantial arguments against the sculpture to try and
relocate it. Tilted Arc then became a controversial piece of work that involved the art world and major
associations and resulted in a lawsuit and public hearing in 1985. The main issues that surrounded the
controversy relate to the way in which the space was transformed, the rights of the artist, and
censorship. In addition, we must question the role of public art in society, if certain works should be
considered public art, and the ways in which power and politics can influence the arts. Richard Serra

experience of seeing public art is different as the setting of a work can change the perception of the
spectator. Thus by moving public art into a museum, it would eliminate the material use of street and
change their purpose. When talking about Tilted Arc he argues that the public space is internal to its
meaning, this would change the meaning and the art. The following quote by Richard Serra was said
at the hearing and reflects what was his vision for the work and the

Good morning everyone! Signing on, India Hornsby with ASAP Health. I will be reporting live inside
Mrs. Frizzle. She has been under the weather for about two days now. A bacterium is invading the
lower lobe of her right lung. It s my job to pilot the invasion and do a live report on what I see. I will
enter from the right femoral vein and follow a path to the lower lobe of the right lung via the right
pulmonary artery. I will be describing the structures that I pass by and through. Once I have reached

It begins at the base of the heart s right ventricle and is approximately 3 cm in diameter and 5 cm in
length (Yahoo Health, 2012). It then splits into the left and right pulmonary arteries. The right
pulmonary artery delivers oxygen depleted blood to the right lung. From the right pulmonary artery I
have made it to the right lung. Once in the lung I will travel South West to reach the lower lobe of the
right lung.
I m finally in the lung. I can finally see what it looks like. I see a structure that looks like a three
without leaves. I am passing the right primary bronchi. It is a tube like structure that allow for the
passage of air between the trachea and lung (Health Type, 2012). As I move along the right primary
bronchi branches off into the right secondary bronchi. Each one of the bronchi serves as an airway to a
specific lobe of the lung (Wikipedia, 2011). The bronchi have cartilage plates, smooth muscles, and
mucus secreting gland cells in its wall (Wikipedia, 2011). They contain cilia, which removes dust and
debris. Wow! The right secondary bronchi are branching off into very small passageways called
bronchioles. The bronchioles are responsible for controlling air distribution and airflow resistance in
the lungs (Wise Geek, 2012). They also contain cilia that help move air through the system. The
bronchioles are now terminating at the alveolar ducts. They are the tiny end ducts that fill the lungs. At

How Different Chemicals Affect Surface Tension
The aim of my experiment was to figure out how different chemicals affect surface tension. I chose
this experiment because I have always wondered how a drop of water stays together as it falls through
the air. My independent variable was the different chemicals used. My dependant variable was which
liquid stayed on the penny best. The control in this experiment was pure water. My hypothesis was; if
water mixed with salt and water mixed with detergent is tested, then detergent will cause the surface
tension to weaken the most. By definition, Surface tension is the property of the surface of a liquid
that allows it to resist an external force, due to the cohesive nature of its molecules (USGS).
Molecules in a drop of water cling to each other. This is why they can stay together as they fall
through the air (Wick 9). In addition, water molecules at the surface of a liquid form stronger bonds
(USGS). This is because they have no adjacent molecules on top of them so they exert more powerful
forces to molecules on and below the surface of a liquid (USGS). For example, water striders can
glide on the surface of water because their mass is not strong enough to break the surface tension
(USGS). The dependent variable in this experiment was, which liquid stayed on the penny best. The
independent variable was the different chemicals used.
Water droplets form spheres because they are pulled by the cohesive forces of the surface layer
(USGS). A drop of water in its smallest size is a

Nfl Influence On Traditional Sports Culture
Traditionally, sports culture has always been thought of as a male arena, a strong, masculine world
ruled by men, pumped up with violence. The National Football League (NFL) and its players embody
this resemblance. Despite the no politics rule, the NFL use flyovers of military aircraft before games,
promoting the American military. Military is also common at MLB games. For example, President
George W. Bush threw out the first pitch while Zirin attended the Washington Nationals game. This
proves that these kinds of displays are political. According to Zirin, this kinds of acts are unnoticed
because of how ideology functions: it naturalizes a set of ideas that deflect attention away from other
realities. In this case, it establishes militaristic

For my Cultural Encounter Project, I had the pleasure of visiting The Cummer Museum of Art and

Cummer s home and is considered the largest fine arts museum in northeast Florida.
The museum has a permanent collection of more than 5,000 objects from various points in history, and
the historic gardens have many statues and monuments. Artifacts in the museum include porcelain

Outside the Jacobsen Gallery which features the LIFT exhibition, are photos of a sculpture called The
Harp created by August Savage (a native of Green Cove Springs, Florida) in 1939 for the New York
World s Fair. Approximately 16 feet tall, Savage s sculpture, titled The Harp, was strongly influenced
by James Weldon Johnson s song, Lift Ev ry Voice and Sing.
The personified instrument, using twelve African American youth singers in various heights
symbolized the strings of the harp. The hand of God formed the sounding board, and the foot pedal
was represented by a kneeling man holding music. The sculpture was celebrated as one of Savage s
major works; however, with a lack of finances to cast it into bronze, the sculpture was destroyed at the
end of the Fair.
Despite the fact that The Harp does not exist in its final form, its legacy continues through numerous
photographs and souvenir reproductions. I was really impressed with the sculpture and the history of

Management of Delirium in the ICU
Introduction
Delirium is a serious condition that can affect patients in and outside the hospital. With its presence
being unknown to many nurses and providers, delirium has significant long term complications that
can last well beyond discharge. Noise, medication, and infection are significant in the development
and progression of delirium and these are more than abundant within intensive care patients. The
importance of nurse s knowledge cannot be stressed enough regarding the assessment, symptoms, and
interventions of delirium, in an effort to decrease its occurrence ... Show more content on

With each additional risk factor the likely hood of developing delirium increases. Not only does
delirium increase the cost of patients stay it can also increase the mortality rate. Of all diagnosed
delirious patients 25% will likely have permanent cognitive impairments, and more critically, those
patients who do develop delirium have a three to five fold increase in mortality.
The importance of assessing for delirium cannot be stressed enough. Dr Tsuei preformed a study that
demonstrated frequent assessment, categorized as every four awake hours, increased the detection of
delirium by 55% compared to a once daily delirium assessment. This indicates that once daily
assessment for delirium is not sufficient and no assessment is severely deficient. In assessing for
delirium every four awake hours, we increase the reporting and thus treatment of this fatal illness.
Though there is no specific treatment for delirium at this time certain medication recommendations
have been made as well as improving nursing interventions to decrease delirium. The American
Association of Critical Care Nursing, AACN recommends the use of the ICDSC and the CAM ICU
for assessment of delirium. The ICDSC has been in use since 1990 and the CAM since 2001. The
CAM is broken down into four separate components that must be established in order. First one must
determine if the patient s mental status is different from their baseline. Second, identify if the patient is
suffering from

  • 4. Relationship Between The Relationship In Pirates Of The... An important relationship that is shown in the visual text Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), directed by Gore Verbinski was between two main characters, Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner. Their relationship was one of the most important in the film as it shows us how these two characters have changed their perspectives of the world and most importantly, towards each other. There are several examples of how their relationship changes throughout. At the beginning of the film, Jack considers Will as a lame commoner and Will was quite stereotypical about Jack being a pirate . Their animosity and hatred were quite mutual given their respective backgrounds. As the movie progresses, this relationship is more about one s own benefits. They realise and understand each other s strengths and weaknesses well and use each other selfishly. Towards the end, this selfish attitude matures into friendship. At the beginning of the film, Jack and Will had completely different opinions about each other. Jack Sparrow, a clever, cunning and calculated man saw Will as a lay man and would find it hard to believe that they would become friends. Pirates in those days or even today are considered hard core criminals. Will being raised as a common man, irrespective of his past also think the same. The Black Pearl being at the pinnacle of evilness people consider the pirates on that ship to be the worst of mankind. The slightest hint that Jack Sparrow is associated with the ... Essay Womens Rights Prehistory till 1500Ce How Women s Roles in History are Different of Those Today Cassandra Dunseath HIS103: World Civilizations Rebekah Kennedy October 7, 2013 How Women s Roles in History are Different of Those Today In the last three decades women s roles in society have changed. We are now seen as more than just a pretty face that can cook, clean, and take care of our children. Throughout history, we have seen more and more of these gender roles, and also viewed differently in the past. Women played a major role in prehistory to 1500 CE. So, what roles did women play in society at that time? Were they treated or viewed differently or the same as men this this time? In this essay I will be trying to answer these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But still at this time men were viewed differently than women were viewed. In the Era of Confucius, 80 CE, women didn t matter that much at all. However as I read in the article, Lessons for a woman, a women took it upon herself to create how she feels her and her daughters should be taught and what their customs are. The rules that she expects women to follow are somewhat practical. She states that women should be respectful and Put others before herself. A women should go to bed late but rise early to get her chores and daily duties done. It also states on how married men and women should act. It also states that a woman should have four qualifications, womanly virtue, womanly words, womanly bearing, and womanly work. It was important back then for a woman to be seen and not heard. Again women still had the rough life and were only viewed as mothers and house wives back in this time period. In the Mayan Empire women varied according to class. The wealthy women had slaves and other servants who met their every need. Poor women like farmer s wives had to cook, care for their children weave or sew and help their husbands grow crops. The wealthier women did not have any political power. Also these women could be used as pawns in marriage to secure better diplomatic relations between cities or between families, as was done in other societies at the time (Mahdavi, F. ... • 8. Social Media And Its Effects On Society hrough social media many people can connect and come together. It is a form of communication that humans have become adapted to. A popular type of social media is Facebook. Facebook not only gives the ability to find old friends, but new ones as well. It creates a whole new image of a person, regardless if it is true. It allows all races and genders to express their true selves through posts of images and texts, including women. From the beginning of society women have been perceived as weak and unable to take care of themselves. Through technology such as social media and Facebook, women are allowed to be more than their stereotypical images. Rights did not come easy for women, they had to work for it due to the early stereotypes made against them about being inferior to men. However, even with Facebook women still have a hard time. The possibility of harassment increases through social media. Although, social media such as Facebook allows women with many opportunities to be more than society thinks they can be, there are also consequences such as provocation, restriction and psychological problems. Donna Haraway, author of A Cyborg Manifesto viewed technology as mostly positive. Technology creates people just as much as they create it. Her definition of what a cyborg truly is, [that a] cyborg is a cybernetic organism, a hybrid of machine and organism, a creature of social reality as well as a creature of fiction captures the idea of humans becoming cyborgs due to ... • 9. The Vasa Gunship Catastrophe Introduction In 1626, the Swedish gunship, Vasa, was constructed for war against Poland. King Gustav II of Sweden spared no expense and demanded the ship be the grandest, most prestigious watercraft ever created. His demand was fulfilled, however due to continuous design changes, inadequate communication, and a stringent timeline, the ship was poorly constructed. As a result, Vasa sunk after sailing only 1,000 yards, perishing 50 men and all of the war supplies. 1. Who is responsible for this catastrophe? In this case, it is difficult to blame one individual for the Vasa catastrophe because several decision makers were involved. Still, King Gustav s numerous design alterations complicated construction and pressured decision makers into accommodating his irrational demands. Additionally, King Gustav did not communicate well with the shipbuilders, admiral, and seamen, and instead solely concentrated on outshining other ships. Therefore, his lacking leadership and communication created confusion and stress, which trickled down and ultimately led to the failure. 2. Were there any inappropriate risks that should not have been taken? How can these be identified and mitigated on future shipbuilding initiatives? During construction, there were several inappropriate risks taken. For example, time was not invested into accurately drawing engineering plans that accommodated the King s requests to increase the size of the keel and number of guns. According to Mama s perception, the inside of the house is less comfortable than the outside, regardless of the inside being clean and the outside being dirty at times. The narrator illustrates this point when she states, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. (p. 494) The comfortability of the yard embraces a symbolic place of hospitality and comfort. As stated by Cropley, A favorite place is a place where we feel comfortable and relaxed. (Cropley) Comparably, the main reason why the yard is prepared is to convey hospitality for when Dee arrives. As stated in the text, I will wait for her in the yard that Maggie and I made so clean and wavy yesterday afternoon. (p. 494) Before Dee s arrival, Mama gives a vivid description of the visual aspect and cleanliness of the yard, whereas Dee is expected to be symbolically welcomed into the spotless yard, which presents comfort and hospitality. Furthermore, Mama shows an enormous preference of the yard that often gets breezes that never come inside the house. (p. 494) For instance, most of the discussion about the quilt is carried out in the yard rather than inside the house. As the narrator points out, It is not just a yard. It is like an extended living room. (p. 494) The yard was a personal space for both, Maggie and Mama, who felt open and free to discuss anything in the yard, which symbolizes the small extent of the setting where they can control their lives, relax, and clear their thoughts. The author, Mark Cropley, states .... It is your space, a space to regulate your emotions, a place to relax, calm down, and clear your mind. This photoinduced current signal inside the nanocircuit is following the driver laser field instantaneously3 5. Therefore, it can be controlled by tailoring the driving electric field1,2. Experimental approach: Light field synthesis. The PI is very capable to lead this project to the ultimate success. He engineered and developed the unique LFS device (Fig. 1). Also, he demonstrated a full control of synthesizing light field waveforms from the LFS with attosecond (10 18s) temporal resolution on demand in (Nature 530, 66 70, (2016). The basic idea of the LFS apparatus (Fig. 1) is based on dividing a supercontinuum laser light ( 2 octaves) into four different laser spectral channels. The laser pulse of each channel is compressed to their Fourier limit (shortest duration) before all the pulses coherently superimpose at the exit of the apparatus and forming one laser broadband short (2 fs) pulse. The tailoring of the waveform at the exit is possible by controlling the relative phases and intensities of the four spectral channels inside the synthesizer. This tailoring process is automatized to obtain the desired waveform of the output electric field by a programming code developed by the PI1,2. This unique device is ... To the Bolsheviks disappointment, the new government kept Russian involvement in The Great War and the two front war stayed persistent for Germany. With Lenin seeking passage into Russia and the government showing no intention of letting him, it wasn t until Germany s financial support that he able to sneak into the country via train. The effects that Lenin s arrival first had on the Bolsheviks party began with the weakening of the provisional government, primarily ending Russia s fight in the war. Lenin had been gathering supporters since the 1890s with those apart of the forces in the war, alongside other supporters, travelling worldwide and spreading his word of Marxist ideals and a Russia that was no longer wrapped up in World War One. It wasn t long before he garnered enough manpower to seize control and caused a great deal of uproar when he had turned the Russian Army against the Russian provisional government to completely wash Prime Minister Kerensky out. After seizing railroad stations, telegraph lines, and government offices, and subsequently sending out the people elected provisional government, Lenin was able to intimidate the elected government out of office and have control. But the people were upset, their votes for Kerensky were ignored and it would only be the beginning for more strife. • 14. The United States And The Great Depression To Americans, Australia may seem like a completely distant and disconnected land just because of how far it is and because it is technically and island. However, the fact of the matter is that Australia, just like most of the places colonized by Great Britain, is still considered a western country. That along with the interconnectedness of a globalized economy makes it so that Australia is still affected, both positively and negatively, by the changes of the United States and Britain. Such was the case when the United States suffered what is now known as the great depression in 1929. The great depression spread throughout most western countries and beyond and Australia was no exception. Australia was hit with the depression not long after the United States and it reached its peak in 1932. The depression hit Australia quite hard and the economic recovery was fairly slow and lasted until just about the beginning of the Second World War. This was partly due to having a number of badly implemented policies by a disputing government. While some say that it was the Premiers Plan that led the country out of the depression others argue that there was no one single policy or plan responsible but rather a combination of many. One act that had a hand in leading Australia out of the great depression was the devaluation of the currency. • 15. Tenets Behind Change Theory Action research is simply defined as research in action in an institution (Argryis and Schon, 1996). Lewin (1997) is the researcher behind change theory. Understanding the tenets behind change theory and its application to this product would or would have not demonstrated the student attitudes toward other cultures when researching other cultures. The theoretical underpinnings of action research are based on the following three steps by Kurt Lewin (1997) called a process of change or Change theory: Plan, action, and results. Change theory rallies for a three step process by disassembling a negative mindset in order to modify it for a new way of thinking. Argryis and Schon (1994) determined that these variables were distinguishable between two theories called theory in use and the espoused theory. The espoused theory represented the intended behaviors based on individuals values, but the theory in use applied to the behaviors that were occurring. These governing variables fell under two models of systems thinking, which were model 1 and model 2. Both of these models were based on theories in use. Model 1 behaviors focused on governing variables such as controlling the environment, believing that the personal views were the only ones, and being defensive in nature. • 16. Mandatory Sentencing Laws For Repeat Offenders In the 1990s, states began to execute mandatory sentencing laws for repeat offenders. This statute became known as three strike laws . The three strikes law increases prison sentence for people convicted of a felony. If you have two or more violent crimes or serious felonies, it limits the ability that offenders have to receive a punishment other than life sentencing. By 2003 over half of the states and federal government had enacted the three strike laws . The expectation behind it was to get career criminals off the street for the good of the public. However, the laws have their connoisseurs who charge sentences that are often excessive to the crimes committed and that incarcerate of three strike inmates for 25 years to life. Nevertheless, the US Supreme Court has upheld three strike laws and had rejected the fact that they amount to cruel and unusual punishment. The state of Washington passed the first three strikes law in 1993. Anyone convicted of three separate violent felonies must be sentenced to life in prison without a chance for parole. Then on March 8th, 1994, California followed by enacting the law that sanctioned a sentence of 25 years to life for a third felony conviction. Contrary to Washington, the California law counts nonviolent felonies, such as burglary and theft as strike offences; by 2001, over 50,000 criminals had been penalized under the new law, far more than any other state, with almost a quarter of the prisoners facing a minimum of 25 years ... Research Objective #1: Determine the Rate and Amount of Copper Release from Treated Wood by Fungal Exposure to Four Copper Tolerant Brown Rot Fungi Introduction. In this objective, rate and amount of copper release will be measured while fungus is growing on copper based treatments. The working hypothesis is that the selected four brown rot fungi (Postia placenta, Serpula lacrymans, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Fibroporia radiculosa) have different copper removal degrees in ACQ and CCA treated wood. I will test my working hypothesis by using the experimental approach of measurement of copper release. This lab was performed to examine the function of the heart in frogs and observe the effects of temperature, hormones and blocking agents on autonomic control. It was found that when the heart was bathed with cold saline, the mean amplitude of heart contraction decreased by 35%, and the mean heart rate decreased by 34% when compared to the amplitude and heart rate with warm saline. When varying concentrations of acetylcholine were put on the heart, there was very little change in the amplitude of heart contraction. Similarly, there was very little change in heart rate when using concentrations of 10 8 to 10 5 M of acetylcholine, but heart rate dropped 20% from 10 5 to 10 4. When d tubocurarine was used as a blocking agent, heart rate increased 31%. Similar results were found when using adrenaline on the heart. There was very little change in amplitude of heart contraction, but there was a 15% increase in heart rate from 10 5M to 10 4M, with little fluctuations between 10 8M and 10 5M. Qualitative and Quantitative Studies In patients sixty five years and older how does the use of an influenza vaccine contrasted to not obtaining the vaccine reduce their chance of acquiring pneumonia during the flu season? In 2005, pneumococcal disease and influenza were the eighth leading cause of death in the United States and the primary cause of infection related mortality for all age groups (Assaad, El Masri, Porhayman, El Sohl, 2012, p. 453). Vaccination for influenza is widely identifiable as one of the most efficient and cost effective public health interventions. (Wheelock, Thomson, Sevdalis, 2013, p. 893). Approximately 90% of deaths caused by these illnesses occur among adults sixty five years of age or older. It is hypothesized that the impairment to the airway epithelial lining triggered by influenza fosters bacterial growth, and that in turn bacterium derived proteases boost virus related virulence. There are several studies that have been established that show vaccinating the population of older patients, aged sixty five and older, has shown a decrease in developing pneumonia during flu season. In a sizable study that included Swedish patients aged ≥ than 65 years old showed that immunization with the flu vaccine resulted in a 29% decrease in the occurrence of all cause pneumonia and a 35% drop in the death rate from all cause pneumonia in the vaccine group. Tilted Arc was a site specific work of a curved steel wall or barrier, that was 120 feet long and 12 feet high, with an arch that gave the effect of the wall leaning inwards. The GSA commissioned Richard Serra to build a sculpture for the Art in Architecture program that would be placed in the plaza in front of the Jacob K Davits Federal building. The work was set up in 1981 and received a few critical comments. However, it was only when William Diamond, an appointee GSA New York Regional Administrator, started to investigate a bit more that he created substantial arguments against the sculpture to try and relocate it. Tilted Arc then became a controversial piece of work that involved the art world and major associations and resulted in a lawsuit and public hearing in 1985. The main issues that surrounded the controversy relate to the way in which the space was transformed, the rights of the artist, and censorship. • 30. How Different Chemicals Affect Surface Tension The aim of my experiment was to figure out how different chemicals affect surface tension. I chose this experiment because I have always wondered how a drop of water stays together as it falls through the air. My independent variable was the different chemicals used. My dependant variable was which liquid stayed on the penny best. The control in this experiment was pure water. My hypothesis was; if water mixed with salt and water mixed with detergent is tested, then detergent will cause the surface tension to weaken the most. By definition, Surface tension is the property of the surface of a liquid that allows it to resist an external force, due to the cohesive nature of its molecules (USGS). Molecules in a drop of water cling to each other. This is why they can stay together as they fall through the air (Wick 9). In addition, water molecules at the surface of a liquid form stronger bonds (USGS). This is because they have no adjacent molecules on top of them so they exert more powerful forces to molecules on and below the surface of a liquid (USGS). For example, water striders can glide on the surface of water because their mass is not strong enough to break the surface tension (USGS). The dependent variable in this experiment was, which liquid stayed on the penny best. The independent variable was the different chemicals used. Water droplets form spheres because they are pulled by the cohesive forces of the surface layer (USGS). A drop of water in its smallest size is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of all diagnosed delirious patients 25% will likely have permanent cognitive impairments, and more critically, those patients who do develop delirium have a three to five fold increase in mortality. The importance of assessing for delirium cannot be stressed enough. Dr Tsuei preformed a study that demonstrated frequent assessment, categorized as every four awake hours, increased the detection of delirium by 55% compared to a once daily delirium assessment. This indicates that once daily assessment for delirium is not sufficient and no assessment is severely deficient.
