Film Analysis Of Will Leitch s Sausage Party
In recent discussions of the movie Sausage Party, a controversial issue had been brought up over the
film s comedic styles and overall theme. On one hand, some argue that the unique comedic choices the
film employs are what makes the film hilarious. From this perspective, Will Leitch, a film critic from
the New Republic, finds many of the comedic styles funny. On the other hand, others argue that the
comedy is rather juvenile and offensive. In the words of Andrew O Hehir, one of this view s main
critic, the film is a juvenile, sex obsessed cartoon. In sum, then, the issue is whether the comedic styles
of this film adds to or subtracts from this film.
My own view is that this film was overall hilarious and deeply philosophical. Though I ... Show more

Despite the fact that their creators are known for their lifestyles, it shouldn t deny the fact that the film
did a wonderful job satirizing Pixar style films. The movie in many scenes portray the characters as
artistically appealing but there lies in the joke within their relation to humans, the cute food are meant
to be ruthlessly prepared and eaten by the humans. In the scene where the food were taken out of their
packages expecting eternal joy, they were met instead with knives cutting them up and hot water
boiling them to death. The screams and horrors of the food that was smiling just right before serves as
the main punchline as the reality behind inanimate objects and humans. Contrasting with pixar style
films where they show a glorified adventure without the cruel reality these object really face. With that
being said, there is merit in Andrew s argument due to the insane amount of juvenile jokes within the
story through the usage jokes, stereotypes and a sex scene between food at the end. Despite this, I
fully believe that this movie had value because of the satire and revelation within the movie. On the
contentious topic of comedy, Leitch believes that the overuse of stereotypes eventually makes the
movie funny, Hehir feels that it s simply a way to cover up the pointlessness of the story. A defining
feature of Sausage Party would be the amount of jokes jam packed in a short amount of time. Humor
ranging from insensitive stereotypes to food puns

The Importance Of Communication And Effective...
Success in any environment is built around efficient and effective communication. Successful
communication requires clear, concise and correct information being delivered in a form which cannot
be misinterpreted or misunderstood. Through communication, we attempt to convey thoughts and
objectives to others, with the intention of achieving successful performance.
Communications can only be successfully understood when both sender and receiver comprehend the
same information and in current times with industries technology progressively developing and at a
fast pace it has become increasingly important for individuals to have good communicational skills.
For section 1 of the module I will be identifying and explaining the relevance of the effective
communication in management, this will be achieved by analyzing the relevance of the
communication cycle by understanding the key importance of using both the 5 C s of communication
and selecting the correct tone, language and level of formality for management communications. This
process will be assessed in both verbal and written communication methods.
For the second section of the module I will reflect and develop effective communications skills. I will
develop criteria and create a questionnaire to evaluate my own abilities in verbal and written
communications. Using the feedback received from my colleagues I will identify strengths and areas
which require improvement.

Analysis Of The Film Whiplash
Stage 1 English
Responding To Texts: Film Study
How do the cinematic techniques (mise en scène, cinematography, editing, and sound design) work
together in the selected scene or sequence to develop the film s central characters and themes?
Damien Chazelle s Whiplash (2014) follows Andrew Neiman, a fame driven drummer joins the studio
band at a prestigious music school, Shaffer Conservatory where he is acquainted with the
manipulative and vigorous Terence Fletcher who pushes him to his limits. The salient themes of
volatile and manipulative student teacher relationship, overcoming adversity and relentless pursuit of
perfection are accentuated through cinematic techniques such as mise en scène, cinematography, and
sound design and editing. The scene which exemplifies these themes are when Andrew Neiman is
competing against two drummers, Ryan Connolly and Carl Tanner, to earn the part of becoming the
main drummer of a jazz composition called Caravan (1936) composed by Duke Ellington.
Chazelle s usage of mise en scène is used to demonstrate the important theme of volatile and
manipulative student teacher relationship. The dimly lit room is representative of Fletchers
personality, throughout the film Fletcher is portrayed as a manipulative teacher who would go out to
any means to get what he desires. The costumes used in this scene are vital to express the volatile
relationship between Fletcher and his students. During this scene, Connolly is the only drummer to be

The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow And Rip Van Winkle
Does the name Washington Irving ring a bell? The author of the immortalized tales, The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. A man who has passed away almost two centuries ago, and still
yet, a man who has paved the way for American literature. Washington Irving was born in New York,
New York on April 3, 1783, and turned to writing once the family s import export business had failed.
Realizing that there would be no more means to support himself financially, Irving took up his talent
and his passion as his profession. Throughout his life, Irving traveled constantly; from London,
England, to Madrid, Spain, as well as the Western prairie frontiers of his homeland. His most
renowned work, The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent., is a Salmagundi (the title of another of
his books) of essays, short stories, and tales heavily influenced by German folklore. In this collection,
Irving frequently describes abstract ideas and ongoing situations with the expert use of analogies and
metaphors, while expressing the inner heart of his characters with such vivid intensity that they seem
to come alive. In addition, Irving proves himself a Jack of all trades by providing subtle satire for the
amusement of the reader. By exhibiting his prodigious expertise in these numerous fields of literature,
Irving establishes the fact that he is one of the greatest writers in history. As a reader, the frequency in
which Irving artfully describes a situation is distinguishable from most

The Pros And Cons Of Tourism
In the third word, tourism is one of the main economic activity for countries with less natural
resources such as timber, oil, and mineral. Britton (1982) indicates that these countries lack structural
economic due to poverty. Today, countries with more money, from the third world, seek to diversify
their economy that has been based on natural resources exploitation. This diversification is based on
ecotourism due to scenic and unique natural biodiversity. This could be part of tourism gaze that Urry
(1990) presents as something distinctive to be gazed upon, that the signs collected by tourists have to
be visually extraordinary. This offering should be visually different and distinguished from otherwise
mundane activities. This visual consumption is attached to the aesthetic appropriation of the
environment that could be characterized by unique flowers, landscapes, or wildlife. As new third
world countries are entering in the market define and control by western people, they have to propose
extraordinary and unique landscape to be gaze, have intense tourism promotion in tourism markets,
and all the infrastructure able to attract tourism to them.
Tourism gaze
All the third world countries offer mainly the exploration of their unique natural environment. This
follows the myth of unchanged and uncivilized state by Echtner and Prasar (2003). This new
destination proposes untouched and untamed landscape (Echtner Prasad, 2003) because they did not

The Validity Of Social Exchange Theories
Social Exchange theory Theories are defined as a belief, policy, or procedure proposed or followed as
the basis of action (Theory, n.d.). The theory that I researched is the social exchange theory. Defined
as interpreting people s social interactions that are based on estimates of rewards and punishment. The
research indicates that the theory is valid. I will go further in to depth.
This theory is relevant in many peoples lives. Let me explain in a scenario. A man named Johnathan
was shopping for a graduation gift for his best friend Anna. He spent days trying to find a suitable gift
to give. After days, he finally found the perfect gift. The gift cost a lot of money to get and he felt
proud of it. Later, at graduation, he gave Ann the amazing gift, and wondered what he would get from
her. Ann pulled out a congratulations card and handed it to him. Even though he liked it, deep down he
had high expectations and in turn the payoff was low for him, causing him to have negative feeling
about the interaction. Social exchange theory can be explained in many ways, but this scenario
explained it well.
The social exchange theory s first major appearance in publication world came from John Thibault,
and Harold Kelly in 1952 ( Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main critic to address the inaccuracy of this theory is Katherine Miller. In her publication in 2005
she proposed many objectives regarding the theory. Katherine Stated, Social Exchange theory assumes
that the intimacy achieved in relationships is linear in nature (SET, 2012, para.10). What does this
mean? Let me explain. Looking deeper into the research her issue is for the theory to be accurate,
certain social parameters need to be met. In Katherines words, she says that the theory needs to rely on
the openness of the social interaction to be accurate (SET, 2012, para.10). Does Katherines article
regarding social exchange theory factual? Perhaps it is.

Cause And Effect Essay On Scarlet Fever
You have a fever of 102 degrees or higher. It hurts to move, because you have a sandpaper like rash, it
feels as almost youre burning from the inside out. You have side effects like nausea, vomiting,
headache, swollen glands, body aches, and even the horrible ¨strawberry tongue¨. This sickness is
definitely something you would pay money for to never have again, as this is very serious and not
something to take lightly. This is know as the Scarlet Fever. In the 1800s, the scarlet fever was
basically known as a death sentence.
¨One of the most dreaded diseases of childhood¨. This disease is so severe that it causes death in a
short amount of time or gives rise to even more severe complications. In the seventeenth century, this
disease was separated from other infections, especially the measles, but remained for the nineteenth
century. The fatality of this disease depends upon the virulence of the Scarlet Fever organism. Death
from the Scarlet Fever varies from one to fifteen percent. This deadly diseases is definitely not
something that people took lightly, that is rather a good thing though.
The cause of the scarlet fever is actually rather complicated. Scientist are mostly sure that Streptococci
are almost constantly found in the throat and blood of Scarlet Fever patients. They say it is caused by
an infection with the group A beta hemolytic streptococcus. Which is usually transmitted by
respiratory droplets. The period of incubation varies, but it generally lasts from 3 to

Evaluation Of A New Hybrid Strategy
Abstract
Testing is an important process in software development and widely used by developers to reveal
bugs. Often, software failures can lead to disastrous consequences such as loss of data, fortune and
lives. Test engineers have generated a set of test cases to validate against the user requirements. The
highest number of reduction can save a cost of testing. When dealing with a large line of code (LOCs)
there still has redundancy happened. Our experiment studies about hybrid tReduct GNA_SA and the
existing strategies to counter test redundancy reduction issues. In our experiment, we apply four
(tReductLAHC, tReductSA, tReductGNA and tReduct GNA_SA) test suite reduction strategies for six
different situation. After that, we then measure the effectiveness of the diversified solutions of four
test suite reduction strategies. Our experiment shows that a new hybrid strategy tReduct GNA_SA
offers more effectiveness to reduce redundancy compared to existing work.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Research Papers
Irritable Bowel Syndrome also known as IBS Colitis, mucous colitis, nervous colon, and spastic bowel

disease, but in fact is a word used to describe a group of common occurring symptoms. IBS is a fairly
common and it is estimated it affects roughly ten to fifteen percent of the adult population in the
United States. There is only a five to seven percent of the population that actually has received a
medical diagnosis of IBS. For uncertain reasons IBS affects women more often than men.

market of dissatisfied customers. Also, they are maintaining 400% margins by selling through
infomercials and websites direct to customers, therefore avoiding marketing and packaging costs

Mutiny In Port Chicago 50 s
One of Port Chicago 50 s aha moments was when all of the fifty men were found guilty of mutiny. At
that point is when we found out that the trial was unfair, knowing that the men did not do what they
were accused of. The definition of mutiny is to refuse to obey orders of a person in authority. They say
they wouldn t obey orders, they only said that they wouldn t go back to the same work. And they had
good reason to do so, or at least I believe they did. They said they wouldn t go back to the same job as
the place where the horrid mistake happened had been doing, known as Port Chicago 50. Not under
the same working conditions. Something would have to change. They couldn t just keep loading
ammunition everyday, handling them improperly with no knowledge of how to load them the correct
way. They couldn t keep risking their lives everyday for the Navy when people didn t even treat them
like humans. What made it all worse was the reason they weren t being treated like humans was
because the majority of them were black. It s such an important piece in history, but we haven t
learned about this event in any of our classes until now. Why you may ask? Because it was the Navy s
fault. The Navy was the one in the wrong here. They had only let black men be messmen and
ammunition in unsafe conditions, and it had backfired on them. ... Show more content on

Essay on We Were Soldiers Once-- and Young
We Were Soldiers Once and Young
We Were Soldiers Once and Young is a history book written by LT. GEN. Harold G. Moore (RET.)
and Joseph L. Galloway. The history book is based on the Vietnam War, which took place in 1965.
The Battle of Ia Drang was said that it was the battle that changed the war in Vietnam. The book is a
tribute to all the soldiers in the war and for their great braveness, love, and care for one another. It was
a bloody war, but very inspiring to read about the courageous soldiers who put their lives on the line
for the United States of America. Lt. Col. Hal Moore, Maj. Bruce Snake Crandall, Sgt. Maj. Basil

Sometimes this is known as foreign policy. National policy was important to the soldiers because they
believed in the purpose of the war and they were willing to defend their countries honor with their
lives. The wartime lives of the soldiers who fought in the war were in a state of mind of mixed
feelings. Happiness and devastating are two adjectives that can describe the soldier s feelings in the
war because at one second they can be happy that they succeeded on a mission, but on the other hand,
it can be very devastating because one of their own soldiers could have been killed during the war.
Aside from physical danger losing one of your own soldiers or having your family worry about you
every day and night are some negatives and unpleasant parts about fighting in a war. For example,
soldiers loved ones worried each day, and hoped that they would not get a knock on their door by
someone who was going to tell them that their fathers, husbands, sons, or brothers have died in the
war. Before I opened this book, I thought to myself that this was going to be a difficult and boring
book to read. After the first twenty pages of reading, I was hooked on the book and started to find out
more information page by page. It was interesting to me mostly because it was based upon facts that
actually occurred during the Vietnam War. The one part of the book that I enjoyed most was towards
the end of the book where they said how

But due to lack of historical argument, the role of social media and an importance of the Green
Movement has largely underestimated.
This study claims that if people in 2009 used their cellphone or other social media such as Facebook
or Twitter, today they are seeking for other realms of discussion and a day before 2009 were using
blogs to declare their messages to the regime. Then if we see this movement as an ongoing democratic
process which has been entrenched by newspapers, social media, blogs or SMS, then it s quite difficult
to label a movement as a failed or unsuccessful one.
The green Movement in Iran
One of the key sources is The Green Movement in Iran , which has written by Ali Dabashi (2011). He
has a historical view towards the topic and in the preface of his book, he refers to the green movement
as a civic movement rather than a revolutionary act. He also explained how the Green Movement
exists and grows over the course of time through different chapters of book. Dabashi used a
chronological method in which mentions to different approaches and events. He also compares the
Green Movement with Islamic revolution in 1979. Although he mentioned the key role of social
media, yet he did not provide methodological and analytical approaches to support his view. Dabashi s
points raises the issue that social media has a great effect on the Green Movement uprising regardless

Sylvia Plath Thesis
Sylvia Plath is best known for the intense coupling of violent or disturbed imagery with the playful
use of alliteration and rhyme in her work. (poets.org). Daddy, one of Plath s poems is a way for her to
express her life story and allow others to see into it. Living in an abusive home, she was torn down
daily. She makes it clear that her father was a male dominating, evil individual. By constantly being in
this environment, it ultimately affected her work. Daddy was written only months before she
committed suicide by placing her head in a gas oven. By taking her life in this extreme way, it shows
how much of an impact the relationship with her father had; she could only live with so much mental
and emotional abuse. This poem can be seen as a final ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

victim and villain, Nazi and Jew. Plath uses the Holocaust as an analogy and final cry to be heard. This
poem was written roughly twenty years after the Holocaust occurred, some may find this as
insensitive, however Plath knew she was using it to her advantage, a way to express the intensity and
horridness of living with her father. It allowed an insight for the readers to truly understand her
feelings. Plath grew up with her father, a German, who was a manipulative man that did not
understand the idea of being kind. Poets.org suggests that Mr. Plath was a strict man, and that Sylvia
Plath lived in what seemed like a communistic environment. Until she was eight years old, Plath put
up with her father s wickedness; after his passing, she became obsessed with his death and began to
overwhelm herself with a mix of emotions. This went on to define her relationships and poems. She
went on to marry Ted Hughes who, shortly after, left her for Assia Gutmann Wevill, which threw her
into a deep depression. She proceeded for ten years to attempt

The Execution Of A New Strategy
Execution of a new strategy is always a taxing task. It necessitates the possession of significant
resources, and also a well designed and engaged administrative composition. Good policy will
designate a specific person who or entity who is accountable for implementing the new policy. At the
outset of the execution of a new policy, a group should be identified that can oversee the new strategy
in all pertinent sectors of the organization to assure various efforts within management are

In Jordan, an expansion synchronization team was set up in the governmental bureau that collected

lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve and
even improve benefits. However, what is not clear is whether Americans favor privatization of Social
Security because of fears that the Social Security Trust Fund is living on borrowed time.
The Social Security Act (SSA) of 1935 was drafted during the Great Depression as part of President
Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal. The SSA was an attempt to limit what were seen as dangers in the
American life, including old age, poverty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2003, Congress added a prescription drug benefit to Medicare (Edwards 431, 540). Since the Social
Security Act was signed into law, many politicians have advocated for privatizing Social Security,
even though Americans are in favor of Social Security and wish to strengthen the program.
The American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. A January
2013, National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) study, Strengthening Social Security: What Do
Americans Want?, found that Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security and are willing to
pay more to preserve and improve benefits. With more than 59 million or 18% of Americans receiving
Social Security benefits, Americans recognize Social Security as a critical program. A large majority
of Americans say they do not mind paying Social Security taxes because of the stability and security
the benefits provide. These findings hold true across party lines, those polled included 87% of
Democrats, 72% of Republicans, and 81% of Independents. 73% of Americans are also willing to pay
for Social Security because they value it for themselves and their families. 85% of Americans say
Social Security is more important than ever to ensure that the elderly and disabled have dependable
income. These views cut across age and income lines: those agreeing include 81% Generation X and

Violence And Violence In Anthony Burgess s A Clockwork Orange
Similarly, the character of Alex McDowell and his actions are presented with methods comparable to
that of Bonnie and Clyde. Stanley Kubrick stresses the violence in A Clockwork Orange as a way to
show the full extent of his harmful maniacal ways. Narration alone can only tell us so much about his
personality and isn t able to comprehensively encompass the significance of the violence attributed to
Alex. It isn t until we see the crimes being committed in vivid detail that we are able to recognize the
true nature of Alex s moral extent. This illustrates him as the character he is meant to be as per the
novella written by Anthony Burgess. We learn through wide angle shots of the moments leading up to
the raping of a helpless woman, that Alex is entirely comfortable with the sadistic action and even
finds it amusing. Upward facing camera angles that specifically place his face as the focal point are
used during this scene and many others like it to enunciate his sinister appearance. They are used to
show that as a person, Alex enjoys these all to pernicious behaviors. The excessive realness of the
scenes only supports our understanding of his lack of humanity. Alex s aggressiveness is magnified by
the way he senselessly beats the old man under the bridge and the husband of the raped woman.
Incorporating an undisturbed shot of him doing so allows it make a greater impact on the audience s
perception of the character. Just as in Bonnie and Clyde, violence is shown with no

The Most Dangerous Game Conflict Analysis
How Does Conflict Reflect Change and Build Suspense
At one point in their life, every person feels fear, but they way it influences varies from person to
person. In the short fictional story, The Most Dangerous Game, Richard Connell uses conflict to
incorporate many major aspects to his story. Because of conflict, Connell is able to create a thrilling
environment as it reflects crucial change in Rainsford and builds suspense. In The Most Dangerous
Game, Rainsford is first revealed as an advocate of hunting, however, external conflict indicates a
change in Rainsford. At the start of the story, Rainsford expresses his philosophy concerning hunting.
Be a realist. The world is made up of two classes the huntees and hunters (2). This

Peanut Butter And Jelley Sandwich
How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich can be
quite simple. Depending on how the tasks are completed, of course. The first step is to find an area
with plenty of space to create the sandwich, preferably a counter. The next step is to locate and gather
the needed supplies. These supplies can be found in any local grocery store. Which include; a loaf of
bread, a peanut butter jar, a jar of jelly, a plate, and a butter knife (use any brand/kind). Once all
materials are set out for easy reach/using, open the bag of bread. To do that, grab one end of the twist
tie (located at the front end of the bag of bread) with any hand, and take the other end of the twist tie
in the other hand. Twist these

Homophobia In Edgar Allan Poe s Stories
Explicitly queer readings of Poe s Dupin stories, though few and far between in the vast realm of Poe
academia, are not altogether absent. With as much in mind, the overwhelming tone of existing
readings, such as those by Leland Person, depend heavily on existing homophobic formations of
nineteenth century sexuality. While homophobia undoubtedly shaped the construction of nineteenth
century homosocial relations between men, Person s singular emphasis on violent, homophobic
repressions of erotic identifications between men tends to unintentionally conflate homoerotic
literature with homophobia. If not wholly dependent on constructions of identity guided by
homophobia, queer interpretations of Poe s stories flirt with the assumption of anachronistic ... Show

This, according to Sedgwick, further associates the aforementioned characters with the bachelor
archetype as the substantiality of physical pleasure is explicitly linked to the state of bachelorhood (
The Beast in the Closet 312). Therefore, Poe s audience s first interaction with the narrator and Dupin
in The Purloined Letter firmly establishes the two characters as living within the realm of
bachelorhood, both characters enjoying the twofold luxury of meditation and a meerschaum among
curling eddies of smoke as they sit in Dupin s little back library (The Purloined Poe 6). Not only are
Dupin and the narrator able to indulge in such passive activities, but the imagery surrounding them is
also steeped in extravagance. Their consistent access to and enjoyment of books books, for Dupin,
being his sole luxuries only allowed by their social passivity and their homoerotic engagement with
one another (Poe 116). After all, Dupin would not have access to such texts had his previous
impoverishment not been ameliorated by the narrator s willingness to take him in. Nevertheless, as
previously demonstrated, Dupin and the narrator are no strangers to decadence. Their lackadaisical

Memory Work With Children By Linda Goldman
Memory Work with Children by Linda Goldman (62) Memory work interventions are great to use
with children, since during this time they are starting to form memories. Through memory work
children are able to retell their stories and the stories of others, and are able to create new stories or
recall memories through making meaningful projects (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012). Through this
intervention as Goldman states, a bereaved child constructs the deceased though an ongoing cognitive
process of establishing memories, feelings, and actions appropriate to the child s developmental level
(as stated in Neimeyer, 2012, p. 240). Memory work is an intervention that will help children not to
forget about the deceased. Memory work can take the form of writing, objects, albums, picture stories,
and memory boxes. Another method that goes along with memory work is speaking with the client to
help him or her process what they have experienced and remember. As counselor, I would ask
questions: what they remember about the deceased person, what their initial thoughts were, how did
they find out about the death, what are some initial reactions to certain emotions, where was the client
when the death occurred, questions that will get the client to start to think about their loss as well as
where they are now mentally in the process (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012). For children, voicing these
answers will help them process the death as well as show them it is okay to feel this way. By

Kanner s Theory Of Autistic Children
In the mid 1900s, psychiatrist Leo Kanner and a pediatrician Hans Asperger used the same word
autism for a condition where children had deficits in socializing and forming contact. Stemming off
the greek word autos meaning self, Kanner stated that autistic children had good cognitive potential
yet they had islets of ability meaning their intelligence was focused in silos. There was an assumption
that autistics were incapable of intelligence and were mentally disabled. Later, Laurent Mottron
discredited the theories that autism is caused parents or refrigerator mothers and shed light on the fact
that neurotypicals lack the abilities of autistic savants. The view of individuals with autism is skewed
and as Amanda Baggs shows in her vivid video describing her behaviour, it ... Show more content on

These prodigies, who had reached professional status at a very young age had varying theories of
causation ranging from nurture to nature. The results indicated they had elevated level of intelligence,
working memory and attention to detail. Interestingly, however, their family pedigrees showed an over
representation of relatives with autism. This indicates a potential commonality between child
prodigies and savants genetically leading to the conclusion that child prodigies possess a form of
autism but suppress typical signs. In Carly s Voice , a book written by the father of an autistic child,
the chapter From the Horse s Mouth is Carly s own words on her experience with autism. The
challenge to understand autism comes from a lack of communication with autistic individuals but as
Carly walks through her processing she explains her behaviours. The overstimulation that autistic
individuals experience and the need for audio filtering, sorting out sensory information, helps tear
down barriers of the view of what autistic individuals are capable of

Analysis Of Stanley Milgram s The Perils Of Obedience
Essay #4 Obedience and Defiance
Stanley Milgram, a psychologist at Yale University, conducted an experiment, which later wrote about
it in The Perils of Obedience in 1963 to research how people obey authoritative figures and what
extent a person would go inflicting pain onto an innocent person. The study involved a teacher
(subject), learner (actor), and an experimenter (authoritative figure). The teacher was placed in front of
a control panel labeled with electrical shocks ranging from 15 to 450 volts and instructed to shock the
learner incrementally if they gave a wrong answer when asked questions with word associations.
Switches corresponded with the voltage ranging from Slight Shock to Danger: Severe Shock followed

The study was observing how far a person would go inflicting pain onto another person. According to
Milgram s study, the subjects would rather please the experimenter and show him or her they can do
the job rather than take on the responsibility that they are harming another human being. The essence
of obedience as Milgram says is when the person follows orders for another person and is not held
responsible for his or her own actions. It is much easier to do a task even if it means harming someone
as in the experiment if the subject is not held liable for anyone. The experimenter did not threaten the
subjects with punishment such as loss of income, community ostracism, or jail for failure to obey
(Milgram 181). The subject did not really have a choice in the experiment, they were compliant, and
when they expressed signs of tension or anxiety or even voiced their concerns, they were told to
continue and that the experiment must go on. Obedience to authority is generally, what most people,
as proven in Milgram s experiment, tend to follow. Nevertheless, is obeying authority always the right
thing to do? A great example is while at work, an employer who gives demands or orders to his or her
employee and since it is their job to follow directions from their

Happy, The Truth Of Happiness
In the documentary Freakonomics, the basic theme follows the idea of breaking beyond the system,
and what the system says that you are going to be. With a different documentary called Happy,
happiness is explained by the way happiness is achieved; it says that happiness is based around love
and a positive attitude. Together, the documentaries Happy and Freakonomics examine and prove the
statement that your destiny is determined by you and what you perceive life. In the documentary
Happy, the truth of happiness is shown through the love of others. Along with that Freakonomics goes
into depth the truth that who you think you are determined to be, and who you could be. The two
documentaries amplify and improve around this idea that, breaking out of the norms of life, we can
become extraordinary people.
To truly have a life of purpose, according to the documentary Happy you need to be happy with what
you have. In the beginning of the documentary Happy people were in the documentary, were asked
what they wanted to get out of life, and most of them said to be happy or to achieve the American
dream, to be happy . In Happy, the focus revolves around the basic idea of happiness and that we need
to achieve this awareness of true happiness is to do what we love: ...the things we love to do are the
building blocks of a happy life. Play, having new experiences, friends and family, doing things that are
meaningful, and appreciating what we have; these are the things that make us happy,

Familial Connections In Helen Edmundson s The Mill On The...
Familial ties are what has the most influence on a person. In The Mill on the Floss, written by Helen
Edmundson, Tom was the most influential person in shaping Maggie because she loved him greatly.
Each time she changes herself it is triggered by Tom s actions and each version of Maggie portrays a
different aspect of Tom s influences. Ultimately, Tom is the reason that Maggie changes herself this
can be seen in many of their interactions.
From the beginning of the play, it can be seen how much love Maggie holds for Tom. She was always
completely affectionate towards, often running up to him and kissing him. In scene four, after Maggie
has cut her hair and everyone is laughing at her, the stage directions say, Maggie goes to Tom for ...

This is the first time in the play where she begins to speak for herself against Tom, at least at the end
of the scene. It first starts out with her a Phillip professing their love for each other then Tom
interrupting and demanding Maggie choose between them (Edmundson, 49 51). It is not until he
seizes her wrist and pulls her (Edmundson, 51) away from Phillip that Maggie realizes that Tom is a
bad influence on her. She realizes how he has never shown her the affection and love that she always
willingly gave to him. At this point, she breaks from her submissive self to stand up to Tom. Maggie
becomes version that falls in between First and Second Maggie: she is more certain of herself and
settled into who she is. He is the one that forces her to change into this new person with renewed
views on the world. Even though this Third Maggie has distanced herself from Tom, she still feels
indebted to him. She seeks him out to ask permission to see Phillip after all this time. Tom still has
power over her with the promise she made years ago that she cannot break. This promise would be the
easiest to break without Tom even knowing what is going on because she has distanced herself from
him. In this moment, when she has the upper hand of the situation, Maggie still puts herself beneath
Tom and submits to his will. She says to him, I do love you, so much. I won t be naughty I promise I
won t. Please be good to me (Edmundson, 63). Her

  • 2. Film Analysis Of Will Leitch s Sausage Party In recent discussions of the movie Sausage Party, a controversial issue had been brought up over the film s comedic styles and overall theme. On one hand, some argue that the unique comedic choices the film employs are what makes the film hilarious. From this perspective, Will Leitch, a film critic from the New Republic, finds many of the comedic styles funny. On the other hand, others argue that the comedy is rather juvenile and offensive. In the words of Andrew O Hehir, one of this view s main critic, the film is a juvenile, sex obsessed cartoon. In sum, then, the issue is whether the comedic styles of this film adds to or subtracts from this film. My own view is that this film was overall hilarious and deeply philosophical. Though I ... Despite the fact that their creators are known for their lifestyles, it shouldn t deny the fact that the film did a wonderful job satirizing Pixar style films. The movie in many scenes portray the characters as artistically appealing but there lies in the joke within their relation to humans, the cute food are meant to be ruthlessly prepared and eaten by the humans. In the scene where the food were taken out of their packages expecting eternal joy, they were met instead with knives cutting them up and hot water boiling them to death. The screams and horrors of the food that was smiling just right before serves as the main punchline as the reality behind inanimate objects and humans. Contrasting with pixar style films where they show a glorified adventure without the cruel reality these object really face. With that being said, there is merit in Andrew s argument due to the insane amount of juvenile jokes within the story through the usage jokes, stereotypes and a sex scene between food at the end. Despite this, I fully believe that this movie had value because of the satire and revelation within the movie. On the contentious topic of comedy, Leitch believes that the overuse of stereotypes eventually makes the movie funny, Hehir feels that it s simply a way to cover up the pointlessness of the story. • 4. Analysis Of The Film Whiplash Stage 1 English Responding To Texts: Film Study How do the cinematic techniques (mise en scène, cinematography, editing, and sound design) work together in the selected scene or sequence to develop the film s central characters and themes? Damien Chazelle s Whiplash (2014) follows Andrew Neiman, a fame driven drummer joins the studio band at a prestigious music school, Shaffer Conservatory where he is acquainted with the manipulative and vigorous Terence Fletcher who pushes him to his limits. The salient themes of volatile and manipulative student teacher relationship, overcoming adversity and relentless pursuit of perfection are accentuated through cinematic techniques such as mise en scène, cinematography, and sound design and editing. The scene which exemplifies these themes are when Andrew Neiman is competing against two drummers, Ryan Connolly and Carl Tanner, to earn the part of becoming the main drummer of a jazz composition called Caravan (1936) composed by Duke Ellington. Chazelle s usage of mise en scène is used to demonstrate the important theme of volatile and manipulative student teacher relationship. The dimly lit room is representative of Fletchers personality, throughout the film Fletcher is portrayed as a manipulative teacher who would go out to any means to get what he desires. A man who has passed away almost two centuries ago, and still yet, a man who has paved the way for American literature. Washington Irving was born in New York, New York on April 3, 1783, and turned to writing once the family s import export business had failed. Realizing that there would be no more means to support himself financially, Irving took up his talent and his passion as his profession. Throughout his life, Irving traveled constantly; from London, England, to Madrid, Spain, as well as the Western prairie frontiers of his homeland. His most renowned work, The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent., is a Salmagundi (the title of another of his books) of essays, short stories, and tales heavily influenced by German folklore. In this collection, Irving frequently describes abstract ideas and ongoing situations with the expert use of analogies and metaphors, while expressing the inner heart of his characters with such vivid intensity that they seem to come alive. In addition, Irving proves himself a Jack of all trades by providing subtle satire for the amusement of the reader. By exhibiting his prodigious expertise in these numerous fields of literature, Irving establishes the fact that he is one of the greatest writers in history. The theory that I researched is the social exchange theory. Defined as interpreting people s social interactions that are based on estimates of rewards and punishment. The research indicates that the theory is valid. I will go further in to depth. This theory is relevant in many peoples lives. Let me explain in a scenario. A man named Johnathan was shopping for a graduation gift for his best friend Anna. He spent days trying to find a suitable gift to give. After days, he finally found the perfect gift. The gift cost a lot of money to get and he felt proud of it. Later, at graduation, he gave Ann the amazing gift, and wondered what he would get from her. Ann pulled out a congratulations card and handed it to him. Even though he liked it, deep down he had high expectations and in turn the payoff was low for him, causing him to have negative feeling about the interaction. They say they wouldn t obey orders, they only said that they wouldn t go back to the same work. And they had good reason to do so, or at least I believe they did. They said they wouldn t go back to the same job as the place where the horrid mistake happened had been doing, known as Port Chicago 50. Not under the same working conditions. Something would have to change. They couldn t just keep loading ammunition everyday, handling them improperly with no knowledge of how to load them the correct way. They couldn t keep risking their lives everyday for the Navy when people didn t even treat them like humans. What made it all worse was the reason they weren t being treated like humans was because the majority of them were black. Narration alone can only tell us so much about his personality and isn t able to comprehensively encompass the significance of the violence attributed to Alex. It isn t until we see the crimes being committed in vivid detail that we are able to recognize the true nature of Alex s moral extent. This illustrates him as the character he is meant to be as per the novella written by Anthony Burgess. We learn through wide angle shots of the moments leading up to the raping of a helpless woman, that Alex is entirely comfortable with the sadistic action and even finds it amusing. Upward facing camera angles that specifically place his face as the focal point are used during this scene and many others like it to enunciate his sinister appearance. They are used to show that as a person, Alex enjoys these all to pernicious behaviors. The excessive realness of the scenes only supports our understanding of his lack of humanity. Alex s aggressiveness is magnified by the way he senselessly beats the old man under the bridge and the husband of the raped woman. Incorporating an undisturbed shot of him doing so allows it make a greater impact on the audience s perception of the character. Just as in Bonnie and Clyde, violence is shown with no ... • 25. Homophobia In Edgar Allan Poe s Stories Explicitly queer readings of Poe s Dupin stories, though few and far between in the vast realm of Poe academia, are not altogether absent. With as much in mind, the overwhelming tone of existing readings, such as those by Leland Person, depend heavily on existing homophobic formations of nineteenth century sexuality. While homophobia undoubtedly shaped the construction of nineteenth century homosocial relations between men, Person s singular emphasis on violent, homophobic repressions of erotic identifications between men tends to unintentionally conflate homoerotic literature with homophobia. If not wholly dependent on constructions of identity guided by homophobia, queer interpretations of Poe s stories flirt with the assumption of anachronistic ... This, according to Sedgwick, further associates the aforementioned characters with the bachelor archetype as the substantiality of physical pleasure is explicitly linked to the state of bachelorhood ( The Beast in the Closet 312). Therefore, Poe s audience s first interaction with the narrator and Dupin in The Purloined Letter firmly establishes the two characters as living within the realm of bachelorhood, both characters enjoying the twofold luxury of meditation and a meerschaum among curling eddies of smoke as they sit in Dupin s little back library (The Purloined Poe 6). Not only are Dupin and the narrator able to indulge in such passive activities, but the imagery surrounding them is also steeped in extravagance. Their consistent access to and enjoyment of books books, for Dupin, being his sole luxuries only allowed by their social passivity and their homoerotic engagement with one another (Poe 116). After all, Dupin would not have access to such texts had his previous impoverishment not been ameliorated by the narrator s willingness to take him in. Nevertheless, as previously demonstrated, Dupin and the narrator are no strangers to decadence. Their lackadaisical references to Rochefoucault, La Bruyère, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Memory Work With Children By Linda Goldman Memory Work with Children by Linda Goldman (62) Memory work interventions are great to use with children, since during this time they are starting to form memories. Through memory work children are able to retell their stories and the stories of others, and are able to create new stories or recall memories through making meaningful projects (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012). Through this intervention as Goldman states, a bereaved child constructs the deceased though an ongoing cognitive process of establishing memories, feelings, and actions appropriate to the child s developmental level (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012, p. 240). Memory work is an intervention that will help children not to forget about the deceased. Memory work can take the form of writing, objects, albums, picture stories, and memory boxes. Another method that goes along with memory work is speaking with the client to help him or her process what they have experienced and remember. As counselor, I would ask questions: what they remember about the deceased person, what their initial thoughts were, how did they find out about the death, what are some initial reactions to certain emotions, where was the client when the death occurred, questions that will get the client to start to think about their loss as well as where they are now mentally in the process (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012). For children, voicing these answers will help them process the death as well as show them it is okay to feel this way. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Kanner s Theory Of Autistic Children In the mid 1900s, psychiatrist Leo Kanner and a pediatrician Hans Asperger used the same word autism for a condition where children had deficits in socializing and forming contact. Stemming off the greek word autos meaning self, Kanner stated that autistic children had good cognitive potential yet they had islets of ability meaning their intelligence was focused in silos. There was an assumption that autistics were incapable of intelligence and were mentally disabled. Later, Laurent Mottron discredited the theories that autism is caused parents or refrigerator mothers and shed light on the fact that neurotypicals lack the abilities of autistic savants. The results indicated they had elevated level of intelligence, working memory and attention to detail. This indicates a potential commonality between child prodigies and savants genetically leading to the conclusion that child prodigies possess a form of autism but suppress typical signs. • 30. Analysis Of Stanley Milgram s The Perils Of Obedience Essay #4 Obedience and Defiance Stanley Milgram, a psychologist at Yale University, conducted an experiment, which later wrote about it in The Perils of Obedience in 1963 to research how people obey authoritative figures and what extent a person would go inflicting pain onto an innocent person. The study involved a teacher (subject), learner (actor), and an experimenter (authoritative figure). The teacher was placed in front of a control panel labeled with electrical shocks ranging from 15 to 450 volts and instructed to shock the learner incrementally if they gave a wrong answer when asked questions with word associations. Switches corresponded with the voltage ranging from Slight Shock to Danger: Severe Shock followed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study was observing how far a person would go inflicting pain onto another person. According to Milgram s study, the subjects would rather please the experimenter and show him or her they can do the job rather than take on the responsibility that they are harming another human being. The essence of obedience as Milgram says is when the person follows orders for another person and is not held responsible for his or her own actions. It is much easier to do a task even if it means harming someone as in the experiment if the subject is not held liable for anyone. The experimenter did not threaten the subjects with punishment such as loss of income, community ostracism, or jail for failure to obey (Milgram 181). The subject did not really have a choice in the experiment, they were compliant, and when they expressed signs of tension or anxiety or even voiced their concerns, they were told to continue and that the experiment must go on. Obedience to authority is generally, what most people, as proven in Milgram s experiment, tend to follow. Nevertheless, is obeying authority always the right thing to do? A great example is while at work, an employer who gives demands or orders to his or her employee and since it is their job to follow directions from their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Mill on the Floss, written by Helen Edmundson, Tom was the most influential person in shaping Maggie because she loved him greatly. Each time she changes herself it is triggered by Tom s actions and each version of Maggie portrays a different aspect of Tom s influences. Ultimately, Tom is the reason that Maggie changes herself this can be seen in many of their interactions. From the beginning of the play, it can be seen how much love Maggie holds for Tom. It is not until he seizes her wrist and pulls her (Edmundson, 51) away from Phillip that Maggie realizes that Tom is a bad influence on her. She realizes how he has never shown her the affection and love that she always willingly gave to him. At this point, she breaks from her submissive self to stand up to Tom.
