ConnectingWords
You can
connect two
sentences with
three kinds of
words.
conjunctions Subordinators (or
subordinating
conjunctions)
Logical connectors
(FANBOYS) for, and,
nor, but, or, yet, so
(There are only seven
or them.)
Because, if, although,
when, even though,
since, … (there are a lot
of them)
However, therefore, for
example, in fact,
consequently, for this
reason … (there are a
lot of them
The campus is closed,
so we are studying
online.
We are studying online
because the campus is
closed. OR
Because the campus is
closed, we are studying
online.
The campus is closed.
Therefore (For that
reason), we are
studying on online. OR
The campus is closed;
therefore (For that
reason), we are
studying on online
Conjunctions:
FANBOYS (for,
and, nor, but,
or, yet, so).
Conjunctions: Put a comma before the conjunction when you combine
two complete sentences.
It was a nice day, so we went out for a walk.
I understand about conjunctions, but I’m confused about
logical connectors.
I live in Oakland, and a I work in San Leandro.
Maybe I will go to school next spring, or maybe I will take
a break.
Subordinators:
there are a lot
of them!
There is no comma if the subordinator is in the middle of the sentence.
If you start the sentence with the subordinator, then the there will a
comma after the first clause.
We went out for a walk because it was a nice day.
Because it was a nice day, we went out for a walk.
Although I understand about conjunctions, I am
confused about logical connectors.
Even though I am confused about logical connectors. I
