Capetian Kings of France
What factors promoted the authority of the Capetian Kings of France in the Twelfth century?
France in the eleventh century had been a fragmented land, divided into federal principalities, or
mini states ruled by princes or dukes. Though they recognized the King of France s authority they
did not expect him to exercise it in their individual territories. Feudalism increased the power of
these mini states in the twelfth century, and was the tool used by the Capetian Kings of France to
advance their influence and wealth. Why and how the Capetian dynasty sought to establish and
then successfully utilize this particular system will be the main focus of my essay.
Feudal law was the customs and relations between lord and vassal in regards to ... Show more

This made way for another advance in solidifying royal power by helping to make the crown
hereditary. The king s son was permitted to be crowned during his father s lifetime in order to
preserve the healing touch. The church gave the monarch a higher degree of moral credibility and
in return the church gained more prestige. One therefore increased the standing of the other in
medieval France.
Louis VI s chief minister and ecclesiastical advisor was Abbot Suger of St Denise. He held his
prestigious office from 1122 to his death in 1155, during which time he recorded a history of his
king, The Life of Louis the Fat. As a result of this great power he held in France, he was very
much involved in French politics and virtually ran the Kingdom while King Louis VI was away
on crusade. This aspect of Suger s career would explain his proximity and involvement in the
monarch s progress in gaining a more prominent role in European affairs, and as a result of this
proximity, why he was in a position to chronicle Louis s life. He seems to play a significant role
in promoting Capetian authority in how he portrays Louis as a most pious and worthy king to
serve under. He states in the introduction of his biography that with my pen I describe his
devotion to the church s worship of God and implores his contemporaries and readers not to forget
Louis VI s marvellous zeal for the good of the

for guiding all the processes involved in getting a new product to market. These processes start from
brainstorming idea on product; research on product; develop the product; testing; analysis; and

existing product or its presentation, or developing a new product to target a particular market

Stages Of Attachment Of The Infant s Attachment
Stages of attachment. Another of Bowlby s contributions is his proposal that the infant s
attachment to caregiver develops in stages attuned to the infant s cognitive and emotional
development. As described by Broderick Blewitt (2015), a bond emerges from the affect between
mother and child in the first two months as the infant signals their needs by clinging, smiling, and
crying. During this stage infants are not yet attached to anyone and do not discriminate between
caregivers. Between their second and eighth month, infants become increasingly preferential of one
caregiver, most often the mother. The primary indicator of the emerging attachment is whether or
not the 7 8 month old infant protests when separated from their caregiver, and whether they greet
the caregivers return with happiness. Soon thereafter, the infant should begin to develop additional
attachments with their fathers, grandparents, babysitters etc. By 18 months most infants are
attached to multiple caregivers (Broderick Blewitt, 2015, p. 135).
Attachment is a system. As mentioned previously, Bowlby also argued that attachment is a system.
Expanding on this, Bowlby proposed that the system serves three purposes; 1) It maintains
proximity between infant and caregiver, nurturing the emotional bond In attachment theory this is
known as proximity maintenance, 2) It provides the potential for on going protection known as a
secure base, 3) It creates a haven for the infant when distressed

Examples Of Positive Reinforcement
Properly used, positive reinforcement is extremely powerful. (B.F. Skinner) This quote from B.F
Skinner shows my opinion on the punishment v. positive reinforcement argument. According to the
dictionary punishment is the infliction or imposition of a penalty for an offense. Examples of
punishment include: loss of recess time, extra homework, detention, and loss of other privileges.
According to the dictionary the definition of reinforcement is the process of encouraging or
establishing a belief or pattern of behavior, especially by encouragement or reward. Examples of
reinforcement are: teacher praise, earning privileges, teacher attention, taking away a homework
assignment, extra recess time, and extending a deadline. Positive reinforcement and punishment
within a classroom are constantly being tested to see which ones more effective when shaping a
child s behavior, but in my opinion positive reinforcement is the better option. To back this up I
am going to be using a combination of different experiments and surveys that have been
conducted with student and teachers. Before speaking about studies and surveys and other cold
fact I am going explain the different types of rein forcers that occur within any type of
reinforcement process. The first type of reinforce that is involved within this process is a social
reinforcers. Social reinforcers are reinforcers that are mediated by teachers, parents; other adults and
peers. (Positive Reinforcement in the Classroom: Tips

He strangled and suffocated him and sat down in a chair to watch him die. Last but not least it
was Josie s turn. His first attempt of strangling her failed, so he forced her to walk downstairs in
the basement. There he put a noose around her neck and hanged her from a pipe, leaving her
partially undressed. He masturbated on her bare legs, leaving semen behind. After cleaning up
the house a little bit he took the family s car and drove it to a nearby supermarket. What Rader
didn t know is that the Oteros had three older children, who had already left the house that
morning. Charlie, Daniel and Carmen were the ones that found their parents dead that afternoon.
Rader s next victim was Kathryn Bright. He broke into her home and hid in the bedroom
waiting for her to return home. Again something went wrong for Rader, and Bright returned
home, accompanied by her younger brother Kevin. He surprised them and using his gun he
forced Kevin to tie up his sister. Then he took Kevin in another room, trying to tie him up with
material found in the home. Kevin got loose and Rader shot him twice in the head. Thinking
Kevin was dead, Rader went on to work on Kathryn. She resisted heavily and instead of strangling
her, he ended up stabbing her multiple times. During that time Kevin, who wasn t dead, fled the
house and called for help. Rader was forced to leave the scene quickly, ran to his car, and drove off.

Arts Education
Introduction
When you think about the purpose of education, there are three. We re preparing kids for jobs. We
re preparing them to be citizens. And we re teaching them to be human beings who can enjoy the
deeper forms of beauty. The third is as important as the other two, says Tom Horne, the state
superintendent of public instruction in Arizona.
Arts Education in the school system has been declining since the 1980 s. Budget cuts and
standards put in core classes like reading and math make it almost impossible to find a good arts
education in public schools. The money that was used to fund the arts programs is now being
denied and being put towards the classes that are being required to take standardized tests.
What most people don t know is that the arts help in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It estimated that since 2008, more than 80 percent of schools nationwide experienced cuts to
their budgets. Metla goes on to say, As a remedy in some instances, art programs were partially
or completely eliminated from affected school districts. People feel that arts classes are less
important than core classes. When it comes to picking which one stays and which one goes in a
situation like this, they feel that they are making the obvious choice by getting rid of the arts
education courses. Other reason that Metla talks about in her article, are the heavier standards put
in the core classes, In addition to less money being spent on education because of the recession,
various government policies, including the No Child Left Behind Act and the Common Core State
Standards have placed greater emphasis on core subjects, such as math and reading. In doing so,
they have sidelined arts education. Reasons the Neville

School Uniform Policy
Every year there is a new debate going on in the public schools about whether or not school
uniforms are necessary. Some parents think that school uniforms should be enforced, as they feel it
brings structure, safety, modesty and a lack of ridicule to our children. On the other hand, there are
parents that argue that it takes away a child s freedom of expression, independence, free spirit and
individuality. Both of these arguments are valid, I hope to help give some insight into this subject,
so that you can gather current and valid information. In President Clinton s State of the Union
Address, he told the nation, If it means our teenagers will stop killing each other over designer

Or what if their on a field trip it would be easier to find the students that belong to your school.
School uniforms originate from the 16th century in England. It signaled the lower class statistic.
To this day, all schools require uniforms in the United Kingdom. In the U.K. all school members
have respect for others, the schools and themselves. The schools are very strict as well, they make
the students quietly walk the halls (like a library), and then when they get to their classroom they
have to stand in the hallway until they are invited into the classroom, then they have to stand by
their desk or table, until they are welcomed to sit. All the uniforms are pretty basic; girls get skirts,
jumpers, slacks, and a shirt, shoes (most of the time black) and stockings. Boys get slacks, collared
shirt, tie and sweater.
They wear the sweater until high school, then they get a blazer (Walmsey, A). In the United States
our schools are more lenient on the uniform policy, than the in the U.K., they have an opt out
program. They are required by law to have an opt out program, it maybe against the child s
religion, or as something the parents just do not believe in. which can cause bullying because
kids are cruel to each other if there is any kind of differences? The schools in the U. S. also allow
different kinds of backpacks and shoes, so there are always things

acceptance to hat offer, valid consideration and intention to create legal relation. In this case Tony

Speaking As A Reflective Speech
In the past, I have given speeches, but never in the style of how we did it in this class. Previous
speeches I have given have been read aloud directly from a paper I had written. I have never
given a speech that required memorization or speaking based off of a key word outline, so this
experience was very new to me. Audio only: Thought I had a strong introduction, and introduced
what I would be focusing on in my essay. I believe I sound fairly confident and seem to be
speaking at a pace that is clear to understand and enunciated each syllable. As the speech
progresses, it seems as if I ve lost some confidence, I use more filler words, and repeat myself a
little bit. My ending was very weak, and it is something I realized as soon as I said it. My plan
was to do a formal conclusion, thanking the audience, but I became nervous and said: and yes .
Video only: I use my hands as I am speaking. I appear to be fairly confident based on my overall
posture and mouth movements. I frequently look down at the paper towards the beginning but
still try and acknowledge the audience as well. My lips appear moving at a constant speed,
showing that I do not speed up at certain points. My hands appear to shake a bit when I pick up
the paper to read my quote, but I quickly place it back on the podium showing that I was aware of
the movement. At the very end when I am closing, I begin to lightly tap the table further showing
that I was nervous and at a loss of words. Video and audio: I

Federal Budget Deficit Analysis
Federal Budget Deficit Projected to Soar to Over $1 Trillion in 2020 The annual budget for the
Federal Government is predicted to increase over the next few years. In fact, it s supposed to
surpass $1 trillion dollars in 2020, even though the economy is growing at a healthy rate, the
Congressional Budget Office says. The national debt has gone beyond $21 million and even goes
from there to past $33 trillion in 2028. By then, the public s debt will almost match the size of the
economy. It ll be at 96% which is higher than post World War to and past the crisis point. Some

A deficit in economics is when there is a surplus over expenditures in a certain time period. Here in
the article, the government spent more than what the budget allowed. The government controls
government spending and doesn t affect investments and consumption. Social insurance programs
are talked about in the article. These are programs from the government (transfer payments) meant
to protect families for economic hardships. Examples of these transfer payments mentioned in the
article are medicare and social security. This relates to fiscal policy and government transfers
because it is a government transfer. Fiscal policy is also the use of taxes, government transfers or
purchases made by the government that shift the aggregate demand curve. Expansionary fiscal
policy increases aggregate demand and the factors that contribute are a tax cut, increase in
government transfers and an increase in purchases in goods and services by the government. We
see those factors throughout the article as it talks about growing deficits because of the Social
Security and Medicare. Expansionary policy is incorporated into the article when the budget office
discusses the prediction of high interest rates so Americans will purchase more

The law is supposed to protect people within the United States who suffer from physical, visual, or
hearing impairments just as cognitive disabilities. The ADA act is divided into four titles dealing
with aspects of employment, state and local governments/transportation/public services, public
accommodations and telecommunications (Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA): Summary of Key Points , 2014). The first title of the ADA prohibits
discriminative practices in the working environment. It applies to state and local governments, to
legislative and judicial branches of the Federal Government, to employment agencies and labor
unions. That means that private employers or others of the above mentioned entities who have
more than 15 employees cannot oppress qualified occupation candidates and workers on the
premise of their handicap. This implies that it is illicit to get some information about an inability
amid the employment interview. The person who applies for a job can decide if he or she wants to
talk about an inability when requesting changes that will help in doing something. This
incorporates job restructuring and equipment modifications. If required, managers must roll out a
few improvements to empower the job candidate with an impairment to perform the crucial
elements of the employment (Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Americans with Disabilities Act

A high quality test will mainly deal with these issues and provide somewhat minimal difference. In
contrast a changeable test is extremely susceptible to these issues and will provide unstable ending.
Validity
Validity is the degree to which the test measures what it is set out to measure (Reshow amp;
Rosenthal, 2008).The types of validity includes construct, content, convergent or discriminant,
criterion, external, face, internal, and statistical (Rosenthal amp; Rosnow, 2008, p. 125). It is
important to distinguish the validity of the research outcome because it cannot contain any room
for error, nor pending variable without an applicable explanation. Validity is not verified by a
statistic; rather by a uniform of examiner that reflects exemplify knowledge, and relationship
among the test, and the performance it is projected to measure. Therefore, it is important for a test
to be applicable in order for the product to securely, and correctly apply, and translated.
Construct validity is the extent to which suggestion can be made from a broad view standpoint
lining ideas to observations in the research to the hypothesis on which those ideas are based.
Content validity reflect on a personal pattern of measurement because it transmit on people s insight

One way to assess pain behaviours is to observe them in a clinical setting (although pain is also
assessed in a natural setting as the patient goes about his or her everyday activities). Keefe and
Williams (1992) have identified five elements that need to be considered when preparing to assess
any form of behaviour through this type of observation.
A rationale for observation: it is important for clinicians to know why they are observing pain
behaviours. One reason is to identify problem behaviours that the patient may be reluctant to report,
such as pain when swallowing, so that treatment can be given. Another is to monitor the progress of
a course of treatment.
A method for sampling pain behaviour techniques for sampling and recording behaviour include
continuous observation, measuring duration (how long the patient takes to complete a task),
frequency counts (the number of times a target behaviour occurs) and time sampling (for example,
observing the patient for five minutes every hour).
Definitions of the behaviour: observers need to be completely clear as to what behaviours they are
looking for.
Observer training: in most clinical situations, there will be different observers at different times and
it is important that they are consistent.

Examples Of Figurative Language In Porphyria s Lover
The early nineteenth century poem by Robert Browning, Porphyria s Lover , is filled with
examples of figurative language. Browning uses metaphors, similes, and personification to bring
the poem to life. The use of figurative language allows Browning to raise from the dead a poem
with the unemotional tonee of the speaker. He exposes the mind of a psychopath, an insane lover,
mastering the art of the dramatic monologue. Porphyria s Lover opens with a scene of a warm
cozy cottage during a raging storm. Amidst the storm, a young, yellowed haired woman named
Porphyia comes calling on the speaker. The poem starts with the simplicity and purity of a young
lover and a cozy cottage in the countryside. The poems tone abruptly changes as Porphyria... Show

In Line 32, the speaker describes her eyes as Happy and proud , or does this describe the speaker
s feelings. The statement is ambiguous, but what is clear is that he sees the love she has for
him in her eyes. The speaker also compares Porphyria s closed eyes to the bud of a flower with a
bee inside, in Lines 43 44. Is this because he is afraid of being stung by her eyes upon their open,
or is this a sexual metaphor? Bees pollinate flowers, so is this meant to represent the desire in her
eyes? He continues in Line 45, using synecdoche to make her blue eyes represent her as a whole
woman. In the line, it states, Laughed the blue eyes without a stain ; the stain could be used as a
metaphor. The eyes could be filled with broken blood vessels due to the strangulation, or the stain
of his sin of killing her is visible in her eyes. This poem had, and continues to have its fair share of
critics. Amongst them, a Victorian critic named John Ruskin. Ruskin scathingly ridiculed
Browning s use of figurative language in his literature. Ruskin argued that his form was bad
craftsmanship, calling it a pathetic fallacy . He argued that something such as the weather cannot
reflect the inner state of the characters. Ruskin had a problem with the weather depicting mood
such as rain being indicative of sadness or the sun being indicative of

desperation for the vengeance of their death plays an extensive role in advancing the apex of the
plays. Though William Shakespeare s Hamlet, was written in the 16th century and The Piano
Lesson by August Wilson was written in the 20th century they both utilize the pivot idea of
Supernaturality in literature. In the tragic play Hamlet, the ghost of King Hamlet advances the
protagonist of the play, Hamlet, to explain the cause of his death; which made Hamlet feel
obligated to avenge his father s death. The constant pressure the ghost has on Hamlet about getting
his revenge leads to Hamlet s internal breakdown. Hamlet becomes indecisive of what decisions...

The apparitions in this play are The Ghosts of the Yellow Dogs and Sutter. Both these ghosts
have the motivation of revenge. Having two separate motives for the piano; Berenice values the
piano s history while her brother, Boy Willie, wants to sell the piano and use the money to buy
the land his family was enslaved on. The Charles family is being haunted by the ghost of Sutter,
whose family once owned theirs. Sutter s ghost appears after he falls down his well and the
cause could be the Ghosts of the Yellow Dogs, the spirits of the Charles family s ancestors. The
ghost s appearance causes conflict within brother and sister to rise. Sutter comes back after his
death as a ghost to avenge his murder and reclaim his piano. In act 1 scene 1, Berniece states,
Just go on and leave. Let Sutter go somewhere else looking for you . Berniece thinks that Sutter s
ghost appeared because her brother, Boy Willie, killed him. In reality, the ghost of Sutter just
reminds Berniece about her family s history and the piano. The piano represents her family s past,
struggles, and history. Berniece cannot accept her family s past and move on. Mama ola polished
this piano with her tears for seventeen years. For seventeen years she rubbed on it till her hands

Memory Encoding Storage And Retrieval
There are three different basic processes of memory: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Memory is
the process by which we recollect prior experiences, information, and skills learned in the past. This
lab focuses on altering the retrieval stage. The retrieval stage consists of returning and locating
memorythat is stored and bringing it to conscious thought. To be able to retrieve this information,
one must know knowledge of proper procedures. There is certain information in our memory that
is so familiar to us that it can be very difficult to forget. The method of retrieval depends on how a
person encodes it from the start. (Rathus, 2010).
The effect when a person recalls a memory that is less accurate because of false information given

Abstract
For centuries psychologists and scientists have debated whether there was a nurture versus nature
aspect in how humans developed their ability to express emotion. A person s capability to express
emotion is thought to develop with your personality from birth to five years of age but others
believe that a person s genetic makeup forms your ability to show emotion. Scientists, especially
neuroscientists study the relationship between the expression of emotion, neural ... Show more

Introduction
Philosophers and psychologists identify emotion as something you gain through many experiences
you go through. There were many theories that were developed by scientist and psychologists
throughout the centuries that express their beliefs on how emotion is developed. Seventeenth
century English philosopher John Locke described a young child s mind as a tabula rasa (blank
slate) upon which the child s experiences are recorded. A child at a young age can be easily
impacted or influenced by anything that is going on around them and the way instances are
perceived and responded to can affect the way the child is going to act in the future because there
isn t much. An eighteenth century philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau also argued that human
development was primarily a function of experience . He believed in the existence of a natural,
unspoiled state of humankind that is

The Above Quote, States To Show The Relationship Between
The above quote, states to show the relationship between power and politics. Power over the
years has been described as a phenomenon of control in regards to politics. Power is an important
tool, in politics, it has been since time in memorial. Furthermore, Power is seen as very important
because it plays an important role in political issue of our world today be it between countries or
states; that is to also say that power is very important in, International Relations. In recent times, the
bases of politicsrelies on the activities of power. That is why there is the term power politics.

Power in the simplest term possible can be the process of being in control; that is being in
control of situations and taking charge. Power can also be defined as the process of an
individual having control over another individual or groups of individuals. According to Hays
(2002), four important things should be noted when defining power, the include; 1) Power can
be understood with effects 2) Power has its attributes to an individual s behaviour. 3) Power is
included with control, domination. 4) Power can be unproductive in some cases; this is because
some gain will others don t; that is to say one individual may have more power that another.
Furthermore, this goes to show how power has various meaning, its effects of ones action on
another, its relations with other individuals in terms of behaviour and power over people in
countries or states. Also, another definition of power can be seen according to Boulding view;
Boulding (1990) defines Power as a the essence of potential for change. This change in itself
being to achieve a common goal for groups of individuals, political parties, states, nations and
countries. In addition, Colin Hays (2002) describes Terence Ball s definition of power as one of
the most important concept which organises political theory. This definition still shows the
interrelation of power and politics and how each relays on the other. Finally, According to Nye
(2011), power can be defined in various ways by peoples choices which

The Backyard Of My Father s Rickety House Essay
There used to be a small town in the backyard of my father s rickety house. It wasn t constructed
by carpenters or designed by architects. This primitive village was built by children with
overactive imaginations and an abundance of time. In fact, I was the one, who came up with
the idea to build it. During the summer of 2010, my two stepsisters and I had exhausted all of
our summer activity options. Everyday, we were in the pool or riding our shiny bikes up and
down the gravel driveway. Even though I only visited my father for a week at most, I couldn t
help, but feel like these activities were becoming repetitive and unenjoyable. Commonly, this
would cause anyone to search for something else more interesting to spend their time on. I found
that something to be an untouched wooded area on the side of my father s property. No one
usually went near there due to the glass and the creatures living under the leaves. Whenever it
would rain, snakes would emerge from those woods to play in the puddles near our house. Needless
to say, it took a few years for a group of girls to work up the courage to explore the snake s natural
habitat. Before my step sisters and I started to clear the forest, we had to ask for permission to
use our parent s yard tools. Sadly, I had sent my step sister Kelsey to ask because I was too afraid
that my step mother would say no . In short, my step parent was a tall, blond woman in her early
twenties, who mostly laid around on the couch

Scaffolding
Hazard: When scaffolds are not erected or used properly, fall hazards can occur. About 2.3 million
construction workers frequently work on scaffolds. Protecting these workers from scaffold related
accidents would prevent an estimated 4,500 injuries and 50 fatalities each year.
Solutions:Scaffold must be sound, rigid and sufficient to carry its own weight plus four times the
maximum intended load without settling or displacement. It must be erected on solid footing.
Unstable objects, such as barrels, boxes, loose bricks or concrete blocks must not be used to
support scaffolds or planks.
Scaffold must not be erected, moved, dismantled or altered except under the supervision of a
competent person.
Scaffold must be equipped with guardrails, midrails and toeboards.
Scaffold accessories such as braces, brackets, trusses, screw legs or ladders that are damaged or
weakened from any cause must be immediately repaired or replaced.
Scaffold platforms must be tightly planked with scaffold plank grade material or equivalent.

An Analysis Of Haruki Murakami s On Seeing The 100 %...
The concept of fate and destiny continues to prevail mankind and it is usually associated with the
kind of romance that is meant to be . At a certain point in our lives, we encounter an individual
whom we feel an immediate connection to. There is a belief that if two hearts are meant for each
other, fate will bring the two individuals together. Until now, this idea continues to bewilder people
and it makes them think whether fate and destiny truly exists or are important encounters just a
coincidence. Haruki Murakamis On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning
depicts how an individual missed an ideal opportunity, which is caused by his preoccupation with
fantasy rather than facing reality. Haruki Murakami is known for his unique writing style since he
effectively blends normality with surrealism. Majority of his short stories deal with recurring
melancholic themes such as loss and loneliness. In addition, his stories are usually in the first
person narrativefor he wants his main character to be an independent being who values solitude
over romance. All of these characteristics are well manifested in the short storythat will be
analyzed. On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning is a bittersweet love
story that is set in the streets of Tokyo s Harujuku neighborhood, in which a boy passes by a girl
whom he deemed as the 100% perfect girl for him. The boy constantly thinks about what he would

Extra-Mitochondrial Family Structure
Many physiological processes in the cells require the participation of both intra and extra
mitochondrial enzyme reactions. A link between mitochondria and cytosol is provided by a
group of proteins known as the mitochondrial carriers (MCs) family (Arco Satrustegui, 2005; F.
Palmieri, 2004). MCs comprise a family of about 40 50 proteins, depending on the organism, and
provide the main communication between mitochondrial matrix and extra mitochondrial spaces by
transporting a wide range of metabolites, nucleotides and cofactors. In humans, MCs are encoded
by the nuclear SLC25 family genes and are membrane embedded proteins that have to be
imported into the i.m.m. (F. Palmieri, 2004). MCs are structurally related proteins of about 30
KDa that shared a tripartite structure with six hydrophobic domains. The analysis of the
mitochondrial ADP/ATP carrier sequence, the first primary structure of a mitochondrial solute
carrier to be reported (Aquila et al., 1982), established that the whole structure, of around 300
amino acids, could be divided into three tandemly repeated homologous domains, each of about
100 residues in length (Saraste Walker, 1982) (Fig.1). Subsequently, this pattern of homologous
repeats was also observed in the UCP1 carrier (Aquila et al., 1985), in... Show more content on

Stephen Crane writes in In the Depths of a Coal Mine in August 1894 that It has only to tighten

that are difficult to carry if you must travel via a plane. Playards are the same way. Many of
them are playpens that are designed in a way that allows them to fold up flat, but not fold up
small. Lotus products fold up small. They are designed for traveling, but they are comfortable
enough to allow you to use them without worry when at home. The Guava family Lotus crib folds

The Mafia of the Prohibition Era
Although the Mafia is most associated with the Prohibition era of the 1920 s when it dominated
crime in all major US cities, the true beginnings of the most infamous criminal organization started
quite earlier. Beginning in the late 1800s, many Italians immigrated to New York City due to
continued rumors of success in the area. This trend continued out of the 19th century and into the
20th as over 500,000 Italians immigrated to the United States (Sifakis). As Italian citizens migrated
to the cities of the US, they brought along organized Italian criminals, who formed an organization
known as Costra Nosa, translating to our thing , today we call it the Mafia.
In Sicily, the island southwest of Italy, a place historically invaded by foreign armies, a group
known as The Mafia with no criminal orientation began to grow in order to protect the citizens from
such invaders. Starting in the 19th century, members of the group began exploiting protection
money from various landowners and grew into the violent organization known as the Sicilian Mafia
(History).
In the 1920s, the Prohibition era just began in America and crime across the country increased
dramatically. Simultaneously, the very unpopular Benito Mussolini became leader of Italy. The
combination of mobsters needing a new home and America with a new demand for crime created a
destined path for the Sicilian mobsters. New York City became the new breeding ground for the
Italian life of crime, and with the influence of the

Villanova Research Paper
With two titles in the past three years, the Villanova Wildcats are on their way to becoming a
dynasty. Since the end of John Wooden s UCLA coaching tenure in 1975, only twice has a
school won two times in the span of three years. These were Duke s early 90 s teams of Grant
Hill, Bobby Hurley, and Christian Laettner, and Florida s 2006 2007 teams of Joakim Noah, Al
Horford, and Corey Brewer, meaning the Wildcats have joined elite company. Once known as a top
team during the regular season who would flame out in March, Jay Wright s most recent teams have
shattered that belief.
Villanova has always prided itself on continuity and developing players within their system. In the
era of one and done basketball, where over 200 underclassmen have declared for the NBA Draft in
the last five years, Villanova has been largely immune. Although they lost four underclassmen this

Junior Year Junior year was one of the best years of high school, but also one of the most
stressful years of high school. What made it great was prom and homecoming. Prom was so
much fun and my date was amazing. We also went together for homecoming too. That was the
first year going to prom and I knew it was going to be a good one.
Also, the boys had won the homecoming football ball game which was a great start to the
weekend! I had got a class ring and customized it the way I wanted and it turned out great. Now
that we were upperclassmen it felt good to be almost at the top. I still had my friends that I had
throughout high school and middle school. However, I did lose one of my closest friends sophomore
year when she moved to Texas.

Procedure Assessment Exercises
The procedure assessment exercises that were consolidated into this usage procedure were a
verbal test, pre/post test, noting unknown inquiries, and re going over the test toward the end.
While a percentage of the objectives were accomplished and others were not because of the reality
we just held this class once and won t have the option to return and follow up.
For one of our first targets, we needed the understudies at Magnolia Science Academy to have the
capacity to distinguish towards the end of the session three, distinct contraceptives, which then
transformed it to one in view of time requirements. To test this objective, to check whether they
were absorbing the information. We put it as the inquiry in the post test segment of the session.
The inquiry was expressed, to name one approach to avoid ... Show more content on

Also, check whether they can perceive that it is essential to practice safe sex practices and how
they can be flawed. The information uncovered that most understudies comprehended one of the
real hindrances of condoms was putting it on wrong or not knowing how to put it on effectively.
At the point when posed the question what is a disadvantage of the utilization of a condom, the
age groups disagree. While most 18 years express that not putting on a condom effectively
versus the 17 years who agreed that not putting on a condom, but as well as allergic reaction and
breakage are cause of a disadvantage. Out of gender, 5/10 females said stated that was one of the
major weakness of condoms along with male being 4/9. Which then drove us into a discussion on
how to put on a condom efficiently and how to know whether it s on accurately. One of the
namelessly questions was how would they know whether his condom is on a properly? You can

Parent Child Dynamics Essay
Parent Child Dynamics: Self Perception
Many adolescence face difficulties when entering into new group environments, such as school,
social groups, extracurricular groups, etc. It has been discovered that the family environment has a
great impact on the confidence of an adolescent, the family being the child s first group. It is
difficult to pinpoint one specific trigger causing low self esteem within groups, as hereditary factors
play an important role. It has been found that a discouraging family environment effects one s self
confidence within a larger group. The way in which a child is treated at home reflects the way he
or she sees themselves and their position within other groups. Furthermore, the way in which a
parent views their child is the way in which a child may view themselves when they are among
others in groups outside of the family. These findings support my initial hypothesis that a parent
who views their child negatively will then cause the child to view him or herself in the same
negative way among others in social groups outside of the home.
I would like to research the way in which a parent s view of their child affects the child s self
confidence in other groups. There is much existing research on the topic of parent child dynamics
and their effect on the child s personality development. In Parent Child Socialization, Gary W.
Peterson and Boyd C. Rollins (1987) write: In family interaction, complex sets of meanings are
learned that allow family

Why Vitamin C Helps Prevent The Common Cold Or Not
My topic is whether vitamin C helps prevent the common cold or not. In the Medical Journal of
Australia it described a study that was a double blind, randomized clinical trial with comparing
the effects of different doses and formulations of vitamin C. Vitamin C doses at a daily dose was
0.03 g the placebo, and then 1 g, 3 g or Bio C with additives such as bioflavonoids 75mg, rutin 150
mg, hisperidin 150 mg, rose hip extract 750 mg, and acerola 150 mg that was taken at onset of a
cold and the following two days. There were 400 healthy volunteers that were recruited from staff
and students of Australian National University for 18 months. A random number table was
constructed to order the medications sequentially, so each sequence of four numbers comprised all
four types of medications. The medications were issued to investigators in 400 sequentially
numbered sets of three bottles, each bottle containing the daily dose in three tablets. Of those 400
sets of medication, they were distributed to 323 volunteers. As volunteers joined the study, they
were given a set of three bottles and a correspondingly numbered respiratory event card to record
outcome. The code was retained by the manufacturer until ready to analyze results. These
participants were instructed to take the medication when starting to experience two symptoms for a
minimum of four hours before taking the medication. They also had to record their daily symptoms
and the severity of them, the doctor visits and the

Prostitution Is Legal For Human Trafficking
Are you serious? Girls are not just objects, they are human beings just like everyone else. That
disgusts me, are the thoughts I was having when I saw that Thailand has a total of around three
million sex workers in their country, and the number is increasing. Prostitution is legal but human
trafficking is not. How can we make prostitutionlegal and then not expect is to lead to more human
traffickingaround the world. Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual
activity with someone for payment. Usually when you think about prostitution you think about
out of the United States. But, now in the United States 1 out of 50 states have prostitution legal.
Nevada is the only state where prostitution is legal. But it is still going on in other states in the
United States. Prostitution was taken place, usually when a female needs money to support
herself or maybe even her family. But, now parents are starting their kids to be prostitutes at the
age of THIRTEEN! In Thailand, there are around three million people there are sex workers and
around one third are MINORS. Luckily, it is way harder to have minors in the United States then it
would be to have minors out of the country. Being a minor means that you are under the age of 18.
This is called prostitution of children or child prostitution meaning prostitution involving a child. It
is a form of commercial sexual exploitation of children. The term normally refers to prostitution of
a minor, or person under

B 2 Spirit Stealth Crafting Case Study
The B 2 Spirit Stealth bomber was architected in the height of the Cold War with the intended aim
to be able to respond to any Soviet Union attack with force within hours of being attacked. The B
2 program at the time was a massive undertaking by the United States and the many defense
contractors that were involved in the process to get them delivered to the air force and ready for
combat. The B 2 bomber was unique in its use of a flying wing design with the use of the new and
evolving stealth technology that was a new field for the time. The intent of employing stealth
technology was to permit the aircraft to go undetected by the enemy combatant during its missions.
A large portion of implementing stealth technology focused on reducing the... Show more content

The emergent need for a stealth bomber did not come to fruition until the Yom Kipper War in
October 1973. Israeli aircraft were detected by Soviet Union radars and shot down at an high rates
by Soviet surface to air and air to air missiles.[1,28] Many of these fighter jets were similar to those
that the United States were using which alarmed the air force. The following year in 1974 the
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) funded research into the needed radar
cross section that aircraft would need in order to survive the Soviet Union radar threat. [1,28]
Lockheed, Northrop and McDonnell Douglas were interested in this research and pursued the
DARPA opportunity.[1,28] DARPA began an additional study the Experimental Survivability
Testbed (XST) in 1975 where the goal was to mount aircraft conceptual models on poles at White
Sands Missile Range in New Mexico to conduct testing on low radar cross section (RCS) conceptual
designs.[1,28 29] These conceptual designs would help Northrop, Lockheed and Defense
Department engineers better understand RCS reduction.

Modern Cinem Mise En Scene
Mostly spoken about in the world of cinema, mise en scГ©ne also describes aspects in theatre. In
the instance of stage performance, mise en scГ©ne includes all that is present on stage i.e.
props, costumes, lighting, use of space. In Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play by Anne Washburn
paying close attention to what is present on stage is essential to understanding situation. In The
First Act, the script directs there to be four people around a fire, on a mixed arrangement of
indoor chairs, sports or lawn chairs and a fancy new couch, this set allows the audience to view
the scene as something of a fuse of scavenged materials, making it known that, in this point in
civilization, it is essential to acquire anything that is possible. There is no room for color schemes
or meticulously considered arrangements, only practicality. The Second Act, described as seven
years later, calls for a cozy living room, letting the audience know that progress has been made and
it is appropriate to begin to consider aesthetic and occasional luxury. With this consideration of mise
en scГ©ne comes a better understanding of how and why a scene is presented the way it is.

Jason Reid Meaning
In this essay I m going to be writing about the variations, patterns and wishes recipe of The Three
and Many Wishes of Jason Reid I will also be comparing The Three And Many Wishes Of Jason
Reid to The Old Woman Who Lived In A Vinegar Bottle and The Fisherman And His Wife . The
book that we read is called The Three and Many Wishes of Jason Reid and in this book is an
eleven year old elementary school kid who got granted three wishes from Quicksilver, The
Elster Of The Third Order . So as Jason was wishing for his three wishes, he was being greedy
and wished for three more wishes and Elster Of The Third Order I think there s a lot more
variations than pattern as Jason is different and smarter than all the other characters in these
stories,he also does not wishdumb wishes and is not really greedy except when he wished for the in

Three and Many Wishes of Jason Reid , The Old Woman Who Lived In A Vinegar Bottle and
The Fisherman and His Wife the last wish they wished for was huge in The Fisherman And His

Gunther Schuller s Music For Brass Ensemble
In the second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, Gunther Schuller utilizes unique
articulations, rhythmic variance, and different combinations of mutes resulting in tension built
from the swiftly changing textures. Throughout the movement Schuller takes advantage of brass
instruments ability to double and triple tongue quickly. As seen in measure 3, he sets up the trumpet,
horn, and trombone to tongue at different speeds while raising in dynamic. Due to the similar
timbre of these instruments, the result is an unstable homophonic texture that sounds aggressive.
Schuller then has the instruments jump down to a piano dynamic. This decision is risky, due to the
fact that all of the instruments are entering, and that it will be difficult... Show more content on

The first instance is in measure 46, where all but the horn removes their mutes. While it would be
assumed that the only muted voice would be the foreground of the section, the opposite is
presented here. The horn continues the ostinato figure from the previous figure. Overall this allows
for the rest of the ensemble to act as the solo voices collectively, and allows the rhythmic variance
they have against the horn to stand out. In measure 68 we see the opposite combination used, where
everyone is muted except for the tuba. This was likely done so that the tuba would have a distinct
difference in color comparatively. This is necessary for its melodic line to cut through the ensemble.
The end of the piece features the only change in the muted horn in the movement. In measure 73
Schuller marks the horn to play half muted. This technique results in a hold unstable sound, perfect
for summing up the themes of the movement.
In Gunther Schuller s second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, he utilizes brass
instruments range, articulations, and muting abilities to create an unstable rhythmically complex
piece that still carries a melodic

Aircraft Icing
Introduction Plane crashes occur for a number of reasons. There seems to be a consensus with
the general public that flying is dangerous, engines fail and planes crash. That is true some times,
although the majority of plane crashes occur largely due to a combination of human error and
mechanical failure. In much of aviations accidents mechanical failure has been a contributing
factor. It is impossible however to blame plane crashes on one reason since events leading up to
an accident are so varied. Reasoning for plane crashes can be placed in a broad number of
categories. Environmental conditions play a vital part in aviation as a whole. Much planning goes
into a flight based on the current and forecast weather conditions for... Show more content on

It also issued 18 airworthiness directives for all pilots operating small commuter aircraft, instructing
them on how to recognize and respond to dangerous icing conditions. (Krock, 2004, 4). As a step to
resolve icing accident investigations the FAA has issued airworthiness directives for aviation
operators such as: Monitoring ice build up, and getting out of icing conditions if the buildup is
unusually high, on anti icing equipment sooner rather than later, avoid abrupt and excessive
maneuvering that may exacerbate control difficulties, do not extend flaps when holding in icing
conditions (which can reduce angle of attack), If flaps are extended, do not retract until the airframe
is clear of ice, and report icing conditions to ATC. (Holzapfel, 2000, 9). Aircraft icing is closely
studied in wind tunnels, although it is very difficult for them to simulate different icing conditions.
Such icing research is conducted at John H. Glenn Research Center using the Icing Research
Tunnel, the largest refrigerated icing tunnel in the world, and the Twin Otter icing research aircraft.
New techniques are also under investigation for testing subscale components in icing tunnels. A
new area of interest is in the field of remote detection of icing condition. This could encompass
technologies utilizing ground based, in flight, or satellite mounted detection methods (Potapczuk,
6). Goodrich has come up with a high tech solution to the problem of detecting ice on aircraft

Charles Dickens Great Expectations Essay
Part of Myself : The Inability to Change in Dickens s Great Expectations In Great Expectations
Dickens demonstrates that no matter what you go through, you are who you are. Dickens
represents this with Pip, for he is the character who has undergo so many different personalities,
yet found himself to be the same in the end. Pip attempted to change his life, despite social
standing, and become a suitable gentleman for Estella. Sadly, he didn t get the social title nor did
he get the girl. Pip never actually had a title for himself in the beginning, and throughout the
novel, never discovered his self worth. This resulted in Pip essentially being a low class,
mentally and physically abused nobody, who had dreamed of a beautiful life. The first, and
most obvious side of Pip, is when he was a little boy. This is the most important part of Pip, this
is who he starts as, and this is who Dickens ends the novel with. Pip grew up in a place that was
unlike the normal Victorian household. His sister was no angel, she was mentally and physically
abusive to Pip and her husband Joe. My sister s bringing up has made me sensitive. In the little
world in which children have their existence whosoever brings them up, there is nothing so finely
perceived and so finely felt, as injustice. (63) His adult narrator perspective shows that he knows
his upbringing was bad, and gives us an insight into how he felt. Pip was terrified of his sister, he
twisted the only button on his waistcoat

  • 2. Capetian Kings of France What factors promoted the authority of the Capetian Kings of France in the Twelfth century? France in the eleventh century had been a fragmented land, divided into federal principalities, or mini states ruled by princes or dukes. Though they recognized the King of France s authority they did not expect him to exercise it in their individual territories. Feudalism increased the power of these mini states in the twelfth century, and was the tool used by the Capetian Kings of France to advance their influence and wealth. Why and how the Capetian dynasty sought to establish and then successfully utilize this particular system will be the main focus of my essay. Feudal law was the customs and relations between lord and vassal in regards to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This made way for another advance in solidifying royal power by helping to make the crown hereditary. The king s son was permitted to be crowned during his father s lifetime in order to preserve the healing touch. The church gave the monarch a higher degree of moral credibility and in return the church gained more prestige. One therefore increased the standing of the other in medieval France. Louis VI s chief minister and ecclesiastical advisor was Abbot Suger of St Denise. He held his prestigious office from 1122 to his death in 1155, during which time he recorded a history of his king, The Life of Louis the Fat. As a result of this great power he held in France, he was very much involved in French politics and virtually ran the Kingdom while King Louis VI was away on crusade. This aspect of Suger s career would explain his proximity and involvement in the monarch s progress in gaining a more prominent role in European affairs, and as a result of this proximity, why he was in a position to chronicle Louis s life. He seems to play a significant role in promoting Capetian authority in how he portrays Louis as a most pious and worthy king to serve under. He states in the introduction of his biography that with my pen I describe his devotion to the church s worship of God and implores his contemporaries and readers not to forget Louis VI s marvellous zeal for the good of the ... • 4. Stages Of Attachment Of The Infant s Attachment Stages of attachment. Another of Bowlby s contributions is his proposal that the infant s attachment to caregiver develops in stages attuned to the infant s cognitive and emotional development. As described by Broderick Blewitt (2015), a bond emerges from the affect between mother and child in the first two months as the infant signals their needs by clinging, smiling, and crying. During this stage infants are not yet attached to anyone and do not discriminate between caregivers. Between their second and eighth month, infants become increasingly preferential of one caregiver, most often the mother. The primary indicator of the emerging attachment is whether or not the 7 8 month old infant protests when separated from their caregiver, and whether they greet the caregivers return with happiness. Soon thereafter, the infant should begin to develop additional attachments with their fathers, grandparents, babysitters etc. By 18 months most infants are attached to multiple caregivers (Broderick Blewitt, 2015, p. 135). Attachment is a system. As mentioned previously, Bowlby also argued that attachment is a system. Expanding on this, Bowlby proposed that the system serves three purposes; 1) It maintains proximity between infant and caregiver, nurturing the emotional bond In attachment theory this is known as proximity maintenance, 2) It provides the potential for on going protection known as a secure base, 3) It creates a haven for the infant when distressed ... • 6. Examples Of Positive Reinforcement Properly used, positive reinforcement is extremely powerful. (B.F. Skinner) This quote from B.F Skinner shows my opinion on the punishment v. positive reinforcement argument. According to the dictionary punishment is the infliction or imposition of a penalty for an offense. Examples of punishment include: loss of recess time, extra homework, detention, and loss of other privileges. According to the dictionary the definition of reinforcement is the process of encouraging or establishing a belief or pattern of behavior, especially by encouragement or reward. Examples of reinforcement are: teacher praise, earning privileges, teacher attention, taking away a homework assignment, extra recess time, and extending a deadline. Positive reinforcement and punishment within a classroom are constantly being tested to see which ones more effective when shaping a child s behavior, but in my opinion positive reinforcement is the better option. To back this up I am going to be using a combination of different experiments and surveys that have been conducted with student and teachers. Before speaking about studies and surveys and other cold fact I am going explain the different types of rein forcers that occur within any type of reinforcement process. The first type of reinforce that is involved within this process is a social reinforcers. Social reinforcers are reinforcers that are mediated by teachers, parents; other adults and peers. He masturbated on her bare legs, leaving semen behind. After cleaning up the house a little bit he took the family s car and drove it to a nearby supermarket. • 8. Arts Education Introduction When you think about the purpose of education, there are three. We re preparing kids for jobs. We re preparing them to be citizens. And we re teaching them to be human beings who can enjoy the deeper forms of beauty. The third is as important as the other two, says Tom Horne, the state superintendent of public instruction in Arizona. Arts Education in the school system has been declining since the 1980 s. Budget cuts and standards put in core classes like reading and math make it almost impossible to find a good arts education in public schools. Metla goes on to say, As a remedy in some instances, art programs were partially or completely eliminated from affected school districts. People feel that arts classes are less important than core classes. When it comes to picking which one stays and which one goes in a situation like this, they feel that they are making the obvious choice by getting rid of the arts education courses. Other reason that Metla talks about in her article, are the heavier standards put in the core classes, In addition to less money being spent on education because of the recession, various government policies, including the No Child Left Behind Act and the Common Core State Standards have placed greater emphasis on core subjects, such as math and reading. • 9. School Uniform Policy Every year there is a new debate going on in the public schools about whether or not school uniforms are necessary. Some parents think that school uniforms should be enforced, as they feel it brings structure, safety, modesty and a lack of ridicule to our children. On the other hand, there are parents that argue that it takes away a child s freedom of expression, independence, free spirit and individuality. Both of these arguments are valid, I hope to help give some insight into this subject, so that you can gather current and valid information. School uniforms originate from the 16th century in England. It signaled the lower class statistic. To this day, all schools require uniforms in the United Kingdom. In the U.K. all school members have respect for others, the schools and themselves. The schools are very strict as well, they make the students quietly walk the halls (like a library), and then when they get to their classroom they have to stand in the hallway until they are invited into the classroom, then they have to stand by their desk or table, until they are welcomed to sit. All the uniforms are pretty basic; girls get skirts, jumpers, slacks, and a shirt, shoes (most of the time black) and stockings. Boys get slacks, collared shirt, tie and sweater. They wear the sweater until high school, then they get a blazer (Walmsey, A). In the United States our schools are more lenient on the uniform policy, than the in the U.K., they have an opt out program. They are required by law to have an opt out program, it maybe against the child s religion, or as something the parents just do not believe in. which can cause bullying because kids are cruel to each other if there is any kind of differences? Previous speeches I have given have been read aloud directly from a paper I had written. I have never given a speech that required memorization or speaking based off of a key word outline, so this experience was very new to me. Audio only: Thought I had a strong introduction, and introduced what I would be focusing on in my essay. I believe I sound fairly confident and seem to be speaking at a pace that is clear to understand and enunciated each syllable. As the speech progresses, it seems as if I ve lost some confidence, I use more filler words, and repeat myself a little bit. My hands appear to shake a bit when I pick up the paper to read my quote, but I quickly place it back on the podium showing that I was aware of the movement. The ADA act is divided into four titles dealing with aspects of employment, state and local governments/transportation/public services, public accommodations and telecommunications (Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): Summary of Key Points , 2014). The first title of the ADA prohibits discriminative practices in the working environment. It applies to state and local governments, to legislative and judicial branches of the Federal Government, to employment agencies and labor unions. That means that private employers or others of the above mentioned entities who have more than 15 employees cannot oppress qualified occupation candidates and workers on the premise of their handicap. This implies that it is illicit to get some information about an inability amid the employment interview. The person who applies for a job can decide if he or she wants to talk about an inability when requesting changes that will help in doing something. This incorporates job restructuring and equipment modifications. Keefe and Williams (1992) have identified five elements that need to be considered when preparing to assess any form of behaviour through this type of observation. A rationale for observation: it is important for clinicians to know why they are observing pain behaviours. One reason is to identify problem behaviours that the patient may be reluctant to report, such as pain when swallowing, so that treatment can be given. Another is to monitor the progress of a course of treatment. A method for sampling pain behaviour techniques for sampling and recording behaviour include continuous observation, measuring duration (how long the patient takes to complete a task), frequency counts (the number of times a target behaviour occurs) and time sampling (for example, observing the patient for five minutes every hour). Definitions of the behaviour: observers need to be completely clear as to what behaviours they are looking for. Browning uses metaphors, similes, and personification to bring the poem to life. The use of figurative language allows Browning to raise from the dead a poem with the unemotional tonee of the speaker. He exposes the mind of a psychopath, an insane lover, mastering the art of the dramatic monologue. Porphyria s Lover opens with a scene of a warm cozy cottage during a raging storm. Amidst the storm, a young, yellowed haired woman named Porphyia comes calling on the speaker. The poem starts with the simplicity and purity of a young lover and a cozy cottage in the countryside. The statement is ambiguous, but what is clear is that he sees the love she has for him in her eyes. The speaker also compares Porphyria s closed eyes to the bud of a flower with a bee inside, in Lines 43 44. Is this because he is afraid of being stung by her eyes upon their open, or is this a sexual metaphor? Bees pollinate flowers, so is this meant to represent the desire in her eyes? He continues in Line 45, using synecdoche to make her blue eyes represent her as a whole woman. In the line, it states, Laughed the blue eyes without a stain ; the stain could be used as a metaphor. The eyes could be filled with broken blood vessels due to the strangulation, or the stain of his sin of killing her is visible in her eyes. This poem had, and continues to have its fair share of critics. Amongst them, a Victorian critic named John Ruskin. Ruskin scathingly ridiculed Browning s use of figurative language in his literature. Ruskin argued that his form was bad craftsmanship, calling it a pathetic fallacy . He argued that something such as the weather cannot reflect the inner state of the characters. There were many theories that were developed by scientist and psychologists throughout the centuries that express their beliefs on how emotion is developed. Seventeenth century English philosopher John Locke described a young child s mind as a tabula rasa (blank slate) upon which the child s experiences are recorded. A child at a young age can be easily impacted or influenced by anything that is going on around them and the way instances are perceived and responded to can affect the way the child is going to act in the future because there isn t much. Even though I only visited my father for a week at most, I couldn t help, but feel like these activities were becoming repetitive and unenjoyable. Commonly, this would cause anyone to search for something else more interesting to spend their time on. I found that something to be an untouched wooded area on the side of my father s property. No one usually went near there due to the glass and the creatures living under the leaves. Whenever it would rain, snakes would emerge from those woods to play in the puddles near our house. Needless to say, it took a few years for a group of girls to work up the courage to explore the snake s natural habitat. • 32. Extra-Mitochondrial Family Structure Many physiological processes in the cells require the participation of both intra and extra mitochondrial enzyme reactions. A link between mitochondria and cytosol is provided by a group of proteins known as the mitochondrial carriers (MCs) family (Arco Satrustegui, 2005; F. Palmieri, 2004). MCs comprise a family of about 40 50 proteins, depending on the organism, and provide the main communication between mitochondrial matrix and extra mitochondrial spaces by transporting a wide range of metabolites, nucleotides and cofactors. In humans, MCs are encoded by the nuclear SLC25 family genes and are membrane embedded proteins that have to be imported into the i.m.m. (F. Palmieri, 2004). MCs are structurally related proteins of about 30 KDa that shared a tripartite structure with six hydrophobic domains. The analysis of the mitochondrial ADP/ATP carrier sequence, the first primary structure of a mitochondrial solute carrier to be reported (Aquila et al., 1982), established that the whole structure, of around 300 amino acids, could be divided into three tandemly repeated homologous domains, each of about 100 residues in length (Saraste Walker, 1982) (Fig.1). The Mafia of the Prohibition Era Although the Mafia is most associated with the Prohibition era of the 1920 s when it dominated crime in all major US cities, the true beginnings of the most infamous criminal organization started quite earlier. Beginning in the late 1800s, many Italians immigrated to New York City due to continued rumors of success in the area. This trend continued out of the 19th century and into the 20th as over 500,000 Italians immigrated to the United States (Sifakis). As Italian citizens migrated to the cities of the US, they brought along organized Italian criminals, who formed an organization known as Costra Nosa, translating to our thing , today we call it the Mafia. In Sicily, the island southwest of Italy, a place historically invaded by foreign armies, a group known as The Mafia with no criminal orientation began to grow in order to protect the citizens from such invaders. Starting in the 19th century, members of the group began exploiting protection money from various landowners and grew into the violent organization known as the Sicilian Mafia (History). In the 1920s, the Prohibition era just began in America and crime across the country increased dramatically. Simultaneously, the very unpopular Benito Mussolini became leader of Italy. • 44. Parent Child Dynamics Essay Parent Child Dynamics: Self Perception Many adolescence face difficulties when entering into new group environments, such as school, social groups, extracurricular groups, etc. It has been discovered that the family environment has a great impact on the confidence of an adolescent, the family being the child s first group. It is difficult to pinpoint one specific trigger causing low self esteem within groups, as hereditary factors play an important role. It has been found that a discouraging family environment effects one s self confidence within a larger group. The way in which a child is treated at home reflects the way he or she sees themselves and their position within other groups. Furthermore, the way in which a parent views their child is the way in which a child may view themselves when they are among others in groups outside of the family. These findings support my initial hypothesis that a parent who views their child negatively will then cause the child to view him or herself in the same negative way among others in social groups outside of the home. I would like to research the way in which a parent s view of their child affects the child s self confidence in other groups. There is much existing research on the topic of parent child dynamics and their effect on the child s personality development. In Parent Child Socialization, Gary W. Peterson and Boyd C. There were 400 healthy volunteers that were recruited from staff and students of Australian National University for 18 months. A random number table was constructed to order the medications sequentially, so each sequence of four numbers comprised all four types of medications. The medications were issued to investigators in 400 sequentially numbered sets of three bottles, each bottle containing the daily dose in three tablets. Of those 400 sets of medication, they were distributed to 323 volunteers. As volunteers joined the study, they were given a set of three bottles and a correspondingly numbered respiratory event card to record outcome. Prostitution is legal but human trafficking is not. How can we make prostitutionlegal and then not expect is to lead to more human traffickingaround the world. Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment. Usually when you think about prostitution you think about out of the United States. But, now in the United States 1 out of 50 states have prostitution legal. Nevada is the only state where prostitution is legal. But it is still going on in other states in the United States. Prostitution was taken place, usually when a female needs money to support herself or maybe even her family. But, now parents are starting their kids to be prostitutes at the age of THIRTEEN! In Thailand, there are around three million people there are sex workers and around one third are MINORS. Luckily, it is way harder to have minors in the United States then it would be to have minors out of the country. Being a minor means that you are under the age of 18. Gunther Schuller s Music For Brass Ensemble In the second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, Gunther Schuller utilizes unique articulations, rhythmic variance, and different combinations of mutes resulting in tension built from the swiftly changing textures. Throughout the movement Schuller takes advantage of brass instruments ability to double and triple tongue quickly. As seen in measure 3, he sets up the trumpet, horn, and trombone to tongue at different speeds while raising in dynamic. Due to the similar timbre of these instruments, the result is an unstable homophonic texture that sounds aggressive. Schuller then has the instruments jump down to a piano dynamic. The first instance is in measure 46, where all but the horn removes their mutes. While it would be assumed that the only muted voice would be the foreground of the section, the opposite is presented here. The horn continues the ostinato figure from the previous figure. Overall this allows for the rest of the ensemble to act as the solo voices collectively, and allows the rhythmic variance they have against the horn to stand out. In measure 68 we see the opposite combination used, where everyone is muted except for the tuba. This was likely done so that the tuba would have a distinct difference in color comparatively. This is necessary for its melodic line to cut through the ensemble. The end of the piece features the only change in the muted horn in the movement. In measure 73 Schuller marks the horn to play half muted. This technique results in a hold unstable sound, perfect for summing up the themes of the movement. Charles Dickens Great Expectations Essay Part of Myself : The Inability to Change in Dickens s Great Expectations In Great Expectations Dickens demonstrates that no matter what you go through, you are who you are. Dickens represents this with Pip, for he is the character who has undergo so many different personalities, yet found himself to be the same in the end. Pip attempted to change his life, despite social standing, and become a suitable gentleman for Estella. Sadly, he didn t get the social title nor did he get the girl. Pip never actually had a title for himself in the beginning, and throughout the novel, never discovered his self worth. This resulted in Pip essentially being a low class, mentally and physically abused nobody, who had dreamed of a beautiful life. The first, and most obvious side of Pip, is when he was a little boy. This is the most important part of Pip, this is who he starts as, and this is who Dickens ends the novel with. Pip grew up in a place that was unlike the normal Victorian household. His sister was no angel, she was mentally and physically abusive to Pip and her husband Joe. My sister s bringing up has made me sensitive. In the little world in which children have their existence whosoever brings them up, there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt, as injustice.
