"Cultural localisation of open badges - insights from the German community”
Cultural localisation is the process of adapting the linguistic and cultural content of a design for a specific local culture. The aim of this talk is to explore cultural localisation of open badges from two perspectives. The first perspective is the cultural localisation of skills with the help of open badges. The second perspective is the cultural localisation of open badges as a system itself. My talk will include insights from a German qualification project for migrant academics, in which badges have been applied to enhance employability, as well as insights from the process of building an open badges community in German-speaking countries. My intention is to develop a framework for cultural localisation of open badges and I would like to discuss some considerations for such a framework.

Based on the idea of integrating Moodle, Mahara and Open Badges with Moodle as issuer and Mahara as displayer, our project aims at exploring new ways of integrating digital badges into higher education and beyond. The team in the Beuth Badges project develops didactic, design and technology concepts and prototypes which are applied in a number of educational scenarios including:
*Higher education courses (on-campus)
*Higher education courses (online)
*Qualification programs, e.g. Credit Points
*International student collaborations, e.g. Connected Learning

The Future of Learning Technology in UK Higher Education
At Microsoft it’s essential that we understand how we can support
innovative individuals, businesses and organisations to shape the future – and there is no more important area for innovation than Higher Education.
Introduction
Learning delivery in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is
being reshaped before our eyes, thanks in part to advances
in technology and the new pedagogical theories facilitated by
that technology.
In order to understand more about the ever-evolving
relationship between technology and learning, we spent time
speaking with six of the UK’s leading learning technologists
working within HEIs.
In a series of interviews exploring current practice, changing
needs and key trends, we were able to establish how digital
devices are being used in universities and how cutting-edge
technology can continue to compliment a sector experiencing
fresh emphasis on collaboration, creation and innovation.

Noone can deny the importance of continuing professional development for ELT instructors. It helps teachers to stay up to date with the new methods and procedures of teaching and learning which leads to the improvement of their classes output.Learning was and is still always linked to travel but the only difference between past teachers and actual ones, seeking professional development, is that in the past educators take long real journeys .However , traveling for knowledge in the modern era can also be virtual with same or better results in various aspects.
How to recognize (almost) anything with digital badges - Fab14 FranceGeoffroi Garon-Épaule
Workshop presentation at the 14th international Fab Lab Conference in France, jul 12 - 22 2018 - http://www.fab14.org
The use of digital certificates (micro credential) and badges (digital badge) is an emerging practice for assessing and enhancing the skills acquired in formal and informal context of Fab Labs and Makerspaces. Digitize skills and learning pathways with digital badges in Fab Labs movement. The main objective of this workshop is to co-design a skill and social learning framework for Fab Labs ecosystems around the world. To accomplish that, we will challenge participants to discuss and reflect around the 21st century and open innovation skills references, experimentation of new educational design (STEM to STEAM), technology assessment of digital badges management systems, and the use of “Open badges” standard developed by Mozilla and IMS Global. The participants are also going to prototype and experiment the design of digital badges and explore the platform Badge Factor (plugin), a turnkey recognition system based on WordPress (open source project). www.badgefactor.com

In spite of the social and cultural benefits of mobility for Higher Education, awareness and exploitation of mobility instruments are still not as extensive as anticipated. The aim of this Learning Café led by Ilona Buchem of Beuth University is to collaborate and formulate recommendations for the design of a collaborative Learning Hub for Open Virtual Mobility. Join us for take-aways and insights into subjects including: Virtual Mobility and Open Virtual Mobility; the design of a collaborative Learning Hub and the creation of OERs, MOOCs, Open Credentials and E-Assessments. You will have the chance to contribute to the design with your own recommendations and to network with participants interested in Virtual Mobility and Open Education. 2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Vision
To establish Open Badge Network as a trusted source of independent information, tools
and informed practice, facilitating a badge ecosystem to be developed across Europe.
Mission
1. Advocate the adoption of Mozilla's Open Badge standard across Europe to recognise
learning achievements gained in variety of contexts
2. Provide information, guidelines and case studies to enable the widest possible
adoption of Open Badges across policy, education, employers, service providers and
individuals
3. Advocate for and enable social inclusion by ensuring marginalised groups are able to
gain recognition for all their skills and achievements, supporting their personal and
professional progression
4. Raise the value and profile of informal learning taking place outside of formal
education
5. Support ongoing development of an open source backpack to ensure end users’ data
is portable between systems and retained by the individual
