Open Badges and ESCO Alignment - Presentation from the ESCO: Connecting people and jobs conference, Brussels, 9 October 2017: http://www.esco-conference2017.eu/
Some thoughts on the way the term 'open' has changed in meaning for education over the years. It explores the concept of the open scholar and the benefits of making sharing the default action for an academic.
Engaging students eltai 19july2012 stevensVance Stevens
Vance Stevens presents and discusses a course on presentation skills which he designed. Working with EFL college students who each have laptop computers, he engaged them in communicative and constructivist task-based activities in working with Web 2.0 software tools he introduced to the students: Prezi, Jing, Blogger, and SurveyMonkey. This talk presents results of a poll of the students on their attitudes toward using Prezi in place of PowerPoint, and presents evidence from their blogs and from their choice of SurveyMonkey as a tool for creating their own questionnaires, of their enthusiasm for learning and using these tools for academic communications.

Noone can deny the importance of continuing professional development for ELT instructors. It helps teachers to stay up to date with the new methods and procedures of teaching and learning which leads to the improvement of their classes output.Learning was and is still always linked to travel but the only difference between past teachers and actual ones, seeking professional development, is that in the past educators take long real journeys .However , traveling for knowledge in the modern era can also be virtual with same or better results in various aspects.

In spite of the social and cultural benefits of mobility for Higher Education, awareness and exploitation of mobility instruments are still not as extensive as anticipated. The aim of this Learning Café led by Ilona Buchem of Beuth University is to collaborate and formulate recommendations for the design of a collaborative Learning Hub for Open Virtual Mobility. Join us for take-aways and insights into subjects including: Virtual Mobility and Open Virtual Mobility; the design of a collaborative Learning Hub and the creation of OERs, MOOCs, Open Credentials and E-Assessments. You will have the chance to contribute to the design with your own recommendations and to network with participants interested in Virtual Mobility and Open Education. This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

19. COMPETENCY ALIGNMENT
• Problem 1: An issuer wants to make clear which officially defined
competencies are certified by the Open Badges
• Problem 2: An earner wants to see which competencies have to be
evidenced to earn an Open Badge
• Objective: Assist issuers in defining OB with competency alignment
• Solution Step 1: Improve Open Badge Specification for the
BadgeClass to allow better alignment to competency frameworks
• Solution Step 2: Design a web directory filled by crawling
semantic competency definitions and providing JSON-LD format
search results that can be used in OpenBadge definitions.
