The potential for delivering lectures via the web is undeniable, especially in an age of squeezed resources - financial, physical and geographical. As part of the development process for an online MA in Photography, the team set out to understand the role that a tool predominately used for business purposes, Live Meeting, could play in solving some of those issues. Colleagues from the School of Art and Design, the Centre for Academic Development and Quality and Information Systems, worked together to draw out the means by which Live Meeting could be used to support the student experience by enhancing the social presence (de Freitas and Neumann, 2009) of students based at a distance as well as addressing some of the issues mentioned above.
