FORGET ME
NOT !
Caring for
elders….
IMPORTANCE
OF OLD
PEOPLE IN
OUR LIFE
THEY SHARE THEIR
EXPERIENCES
Elders as they also have seen
life closely and are always
willing to share their
experiences and guide us
through. Experiences from their
life can act as a torchbearer for
us in the long run.
THEY PROMOTE A
CULTURAL SOCIAL SETUP
Any social setup is considered
more cultured if its people treat
their senior citizens with
respect and care. A society
devoid of blessings from its
senior people surely runs down
the drain in absence of any
guidance.
ELDERS ARE TRANSISTOR
OF MORAL VALUES
Elders are very important in the busy
world of today where most of the
married couples are working. This
results in no time for their kids which
end up swayed in wrong direction in
absence of right teachings. It is
therefore imperative to have elders in
your family so that our
futuregeneration grows up with
required moral value and knowledge
of culture.
THEY LOVE US
UNCONDITIONALLY
No matter what we do in life, who we
become, where we live, who you are
with —our elders will always love us
unconditionally.
This kind of unconditional love is hard
to find anywhere else in this universe.
ISSUES
FACED BY
AGED
NEGLECT BY THEIR
CHILDREN
Due to generation gap and
materialistic attitude children often
neglect their parents .
They get busy with their own lives
and forget the foundation stones
who made them what they are .
LONELINESS
Children are busy with work and may not
even come to visit them. Grandchildren are
busy in schools.
Physically weak elderly may feel that they
are burden on them so they try to stay away
even if people are around .
Loneliness leads to depression –they
feel alone and unprotected.
ABUSE
Elder abuse is the
infliction of physical,
emotional/psychological
or financial harm on an
older adult. Elder abuse
can also take the form of
intentional or
unintentional neglect of
an older adult by the
caregiver .
HOPELESSNESS
A sense of
hopelessness reflects
a negative view of the
future. This includes
expectations of
personal
dissatisfaction,
failure, and a
continuation of pain
and difficulty-- a belief
that nothing will get
better.
Feelings of
helplessness reflect
a negative view of
the self. Depressed
individuals view
themselves more
negatively, their
self-esteem suffers,
and they have little
or no self-
confidence.

WORLD ELDER ABUSE
AWARENESS DAY
World Elder Abuse
Awareness Day
(WEAAD) was launched
on June 15, 2006 for
the Prevention of Elder
Abuse by the
International Network
and the World Health
Organization at the
United Nations.
WHAT WE
CAN DO
FOR THEM
INCREASING
AWARENESS
Increasing awareness among
family members can help
break pattern of abuse or
neglect , and both the person
experiencing the abuse and
the abuser can receive
needed help.
EDUCATION
There is a need to
educate the public
about the special
needs and problems
of older adults and
the risk factors for
abuse
RESPITE CARE
Having someone else care
for the elder , even for few
hours each week is
essential to reduce
caregiver stress, a major
contributing factor in elder
abuse.
COUNSELLING
Counselling for behavioral or
personal problems in the family or
for the individuals with mental
health and/or abuse problem can
play a significant role in helping
people change lifelong pattern of
behaviour or find solution to
problem emerging from current
stressess
CELEBRATE NATIONAL
GRANDPARENT’S DAY
We should celebrate national
Grandparent's Day.
This special day is meant to honour
the love between grandparents and
grandchildren, as well as to help
children become aware of the
strength, information and guidance
that the older adults in their lives
can offer.
SHOULD
THERE BE
OLD AGE
HOMES ?
LET US TAKE PLEDGE
TO LET OUR ELDERS
