Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test for diagnosing retinal diseases by providing cross-sectional images of the retina's layers. Developed since the early 1990s, OCT measures the thickness of these layers to aid in early detection and treatment planning for conditions like macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. Limitations include difficulties with light passage due to dense cataracts and the need for patient cooperation during imaging.
