OBJECTIVE TEST
OBJECTIVE TEST
 When the scoring of a test will not vary from
examiner to examiner or time to time, is
called objective test.
 Answer is only one and specific, so marks will
be either full or zero.
 Answer is either correct or wrong.
 Answer is in a word, in a number or in a part
of sentence.
TYPES
 Recall type – in a word, part of a sentence or
completion.
 Recognition type – alternatives , matching ,
multiple choice.
 Context dependant type – pictorial form
MERITS
1.EXTENSIVE SAMPLING
 Items can be spread over the topics to be
covered by a more representative sampling
can be obtained. No. of questions are more.
2.OBJECTIVITY IN SCORING
 Since the answers are definite, so only one
correct answer is possible, so the score will be
full or zero.
MERITS
3.ECONOMY OFTIME
 Nature of the answers is definite or brief, so
wider area of content can be covered in a
given period.Totally time saving procedure.
It also saveslot of time of the teachers.
4.ELIMINATION OF IRRELEVANT FACTORS
 It eliminates the factors such as speed of
writing, fluency of expression, good
handwriting etc.
MERITS
5.INCENTIVE
 It creates an incentive for pupils to build up a
broad base of knowledge ,skills and abilities.
6.It measures higher mental processes of
understanding application, analysis,
prediction and interpretation.
7.High reliability due to objectiveness in the
question.
8.It Can be organized online.
LIMITATIONS OF OBJECTIVE TYPE
TEST
 Objectives like ability to organize matter, ability,
ability to represent matter logically etc. can be
evaluated.
 Guessing is possible, chances of success may be
reduced by the inclusion of large number of
items.(questions)
 The construction of objective type test items is
difficult. It requires special abilities. , it is time
consuming.
 Printing cost is greater than essay type test.
 Both the essay type and objective examinations can
be used to evaluate pupil’s achievement, while using
HOW CAN VALIDITY AND
RELIABILITY BE IMPROVED?
 Difficult words should be avoided.
 An item should not provide clues to the
answer.
 Answer should follow a random pattern.
 Avoid ambiguous statements.
 Quantitative rather than qualitative words
should be used.

Objective test

  • 2. OBJECTIVE TEST  When the scoring of a test will not vary from examiner to examiner or time to time, is called objective test.  Answer is only one and specific, so marks will be either full or zero.  Answer is either correct or wrong.  Answer is in a word, in a number or in a part of sentence.
  • 3. TYPES  Recall type – in a word, part of a sentence or completion.  Recognition type – alternatives , matching , multiple choice.  Context dependant type – pictorial form
  • 4. MERITS 1.EXTENSIVE SAMPLING  Items can be spread over the topics to be covered by a more representative sampling can be obtained. No. of questions are more. 2.OBJECTIVITY IN SCORING  Since the answers are definite, so only one correct answer is possible, so the score will be full or zero.
  • 5. MERITS 3.ECONOMY OFTIME  Nature of the answers is definite or brief, so wider area of content can be covered in a given period.Totally time saving procedure. It also saveslot of time of the teachers. 4.ELIMINATION OF IRRELEVANT FACTORS  It eliminates the factors such as speed of writing, fluency of expression, good handwriting etc.

MERITS 5.INCENTIVE  It creates an incentive for pupils to build up a broad base of knowledge ,skills and abilities. 6.It measures higher mental processes of understanding application, analysis, prediction and interpretation. 7.High reliability due to objectiveness in the question. 8.It Can be organized online.
  • 7. LIMITATIONS OF OBJECTIVE TYPE TEST  Objectives like ability to organize matter, ability, ability to represent matter logically etc. can be evaluated.  Guessing is possible, chances of success may be reduced by the inclusion of large number of items.(questions)  The construction of objective type test items is difficult. It requires special abilities. , it is time consuming.  Printing cost is greater than essay type test.  Both the essay type and objective examinations can be used to evaluate pupil’s achievement, while using
  • 8. HOW CAN VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY BE IMPROVED?  Difficult words should be avoided.  An item should not provide clues to the answer.  Answer should follow a random pattern.  Avoid ambiguous statements.  Quantitative rather than qualitative words should be used.
