Effects Of Ww2 On Western European Economy
World War II had devastating effects all across Europe. There were an immense number of casualties
resulting from the war, which deeply affected Europe s economy. Central and Eastern Europe, suffered
a severe shortage of men after the war, and at one point the number of women surpassed the number
of men by 20 million (Judt, Postwar, p.19). Western European states were short of labor and welcomed
stateless people to begin economic and material reconstruction. Civilians homes all across Europe
were destroyed, farms were no longer farmable, railroad tracks and bridges were blown up, and
communications were severely disrupted (Judt, Postwar, p.21). Following the end of World War II in
1945, the Iron Curtain split Europe into the East and the West. ... Show more content on

Reparations in both Eastern and Western Europe were very prevalent and slowed down drastically by
1947 1948. Thanks to the poor election results, the USSR agreed to slow down its collection of
reparations in Hungary in 1946, and in 1948 reparation demands were decreased by 50 percent.
German reparations on a large scale also came to an end in 1948, largely thanks to the pleas of
Ulbricht and others who knew what damage they had done to the communist party s reputation. In
Poland and Czechoslovakia there had never been any official acknowledgment of reparations, and so
there was no official acknowledgment of their end (Applebaum, Iron Curtain, p.252). As shown in the
quote above, war reparations were demanded by countries in both Eastern and Western European in
order to begin the economic recovery

Additional jobs, ranging from low wage entry level to high paying professional positions in
management and technical fields. Tourism acts as an export industry by generating new revenues from
external sources. A host nation will gain foreign exchange, which will contribute to improve the nation
s balance of payments. For example in Australia, the economic benefits of tourism are well
documented. In 1997/98, tourism consumption in Australia totalled $58.2 billion contributing 4.5% of
Australia s total GDP and 6% of its employment. While in Caribbean, tourism as a means of promise
economic development. The tourism industry earns foreign exchange, provides jobs for citizens, and
revenue to government. Proponents of tourism argue that the movement away from the cash crop
economy that dominated the Caribbean since the colonial period, toward a tourism based economy
will build a much sounder economic foundation. In Jamaica, a tourist trade development board was
created in 1922, succeeded in 1956 by the Jamaican Tourist Board, composed of representatives form
government, air and ground transportation groups, travel agents, hoteliers, which has pursued a
strategy of promoting and developing mass tourism.

Why Voting Is Important For Public Policy
Voting is very essential and one of the easiest methods to influence public policy. You just need to be
registered, and go to a polling station. It is simple because the government encourages people to vote,
to hear a broad range of opinions. It is a form of direct democracy because when you vote, it directly
affects the side or issue you support. Your vote is one more supporting opinion for a candidate or issue
that is counted. Some people may think that their vote won t make a big difference, but if you look at
it from another perspective it can impact smaller and local issues. Although voting is imperative
because you are given this privilege at the age of 18, it is not the end of one s ability to influence
government, but rather the beginning. Public policy is a system of laws that the government created
for the citizens in order to maintain order. Public policy should be fair for all the citizens, however, on
many occasions it is hard to accommodate for all races and social classes such as lower, middle, and
upper class. An example of an effective method to utilize that influences public policy is civil
disobedience. Let s use the policy that imposed high taxation on tobacco and alcohol to demonstrate
one s ability to impact the government. First and foremost the policy is beneficial for the government
because it generates revenue that is earned from the products, however the consequence is that it
encourages illegal activity. There

Describe Sources of Internal and External Finance for a...
All businesses need money to function sufficiently. Where this money comes from is defined as
sources of finance. There are two different types of sources of finance: internal (capital from inside the
business) and external (capital from outside the business). New businesses starting up need money to
spend in long term assets such as premises and equipment. They also need cash to pay for materials,
pay wages, and to pay the day today bills such as water and electricity. In experienced entrepreneurs
often underestimate the capital needed for the everyday running of the business; this is the reason
many businesses fail due to cash flow issues even when profitable. Internal sources of finance can be
found in existing capital of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also does not have associated costs, and doesn t have to be repaid, unlike loans, and finally it has no
interest charges. On the other hand, investing into the business may be limited which will constrain
the rate at which the business expands, as mine and my families resources are limited and wouldn t
meet start up costs. Investing in external sources of finance can include using bank overdrafts, loans
and venture capitalists, all of which my business would use. Bank overdrafts are good because my
firm would only need to borrow as much as it requires when it needs it most. But the disadvantage can
include it being very expensive and banks can insist being repaid within 24 hours which can be a
problem. Therefore this is mainly going to be used for occasional cash flow problems, for example
over tight times e.g. January and February. I would also use loans, as these can be secured quickly and
used in a large number of ways. However borrowing too much money can lead to decreased cash flow
and payments can even overtake income in some cases. Venture capital s would also be a very good
way to source finance externally, this is because usually want to contribute to the running of the
business and bring in new experience and knowledge which could be vital to help the business grow.
Whereas, they may require a substantial part of the ownership of the company, which could be a
disadvantage because they would be receiving a substantial percentage

The Ministry of Utmost Happiness is not only a baggy curious beast, but is bewilderingly
overpopulated with characters, and frequently achronological, it is written in an usually often careless
and haphazard style and yet it is capable of breathtakingly composed and powerful interludes. Though
Roy wrote nonfiction and journalism, and emerged as an amazingly outspoken critic of the Indian
government, there hasn t been an another work of fiction till now. After two decades, she really wrote
a book to write, one that really seems to have poured out of her like a rushing river. The Ministry of

vibrant characters, stories and prose that engages deeply with the recent Indian history and it also

True Despair Short Story
True Despair
Four years ago today was his first time feeling true happiness. Now the day reminds him of how badly
he messed up one year ago. Just one wrong turn led to a life of despair.
It was his last time ever experiencing true happiness. Four years ago, Jeff was still in college when he
met the girl of his dreams, or so he thought. Her name was Jessica. Jess was a quiet girl, but one day
in the hall Jess bumped into Jeff and after that, it was love at first sight, though the both of them were
too shy to say anything at first, they both knew from a spark in their eyes that they were destined to be
together in someway.
Over a year both Jess and Jeff were both going about their lives as average everyday students in
college. Jeff attending his classes, doing his chores around his dorm, and keeping up with his family
as they lived far from the college he was attending.Jess usually hanging with her friends, keeping up
with class work and playing video games online. They only saw each other in the hall every now and
then until, by some random chance of fate, they both chose the same class and were placed together,
and that s when Jess thought that she had the courage to tell him how she really felt but she was too
shy, so things didn t move that fast.
Weeks passed until one day Jess came to school but something was different about her. Most didn t
notice at first, but Jeff noticed right away. Her hair was a bright crimson red color. After seeing that,
something made him immediately go speak to her. He asked her out and she said that she would have
a response after class. Knowing she would say yes, she first wanted to tell her friends about what had
happened. Most of her friends all told her that this could mean the rest of her life, but she knew she
waited an entire year, so she thought she was ready. In the meantime, Jeff was talking to his friends
about if he really should have asked her out, without even knowing a thing past her name. Doubts
filled his mind as more time passed by. He lays down in his dorm to calm himself down until he gets a
text from an unknown number, saying, Meet me behind the music building at sunset. Not knowing
who sent the text, Jeff tells his friends to come with him as he goes to

Buddhism and Ecotourism
Following Mao Zedong s Communist forces victory over the Kuomintang forces of Generalissimo
Chiang Kai shek, Mao declared the founding of the People s Republic of China on October 1, 1949.
(History of PRC) This marked the beginning of the socialist transformation under Mao s rule in which
he planned to unify China and raise the standard of living through the development of China s
infrastructure, industry, healthcare, and education. Mao s two main campaigns during his time in
power were the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution. Through these campaigns he hoped to

Its market reforms still aren t complete and its per capita income is still much lower than any
advanced country, which has led to China s high inequality. Along with economic issues, the rapid
economic growth has caused multiple other issues. China s main focus has been solely on its
economic aspects for so long that it almost seems as if they have been blind to the environmental
degradation, increasing rural crisis, growing unemployment and poverty, government corruption,
deteriorating public services, as well as escalating social unrests that is and has been occurring for a
while now. Although all of these issues at hand are important, the issue that I will be focusing on is the
massive environmental degradation and how it has been affected by the increases in Buddhist
religious freedom and ecotourism.
In 1949, China s natural forests were nationalized and private forests were collectivized, this gave
state enterprises control over the forests. The main problem that came out of this was that these
enterprises promoted leadership with higher profits from timber production. This caused managers of
companies to try to increase their profits from timber production but wouldn t use any of those profits
for replanting timber resources because they had no incentive to. This led to China s annual forest
volume harvested to be greater than the growth in forest volume, which directly connects to
deforestation. China had

While in Soul Surfer , all people seemed to know each other which indicated that everybody was

that as everyone came to visit her from her town. In the first movie, family did not seem to take a huge
part from Michael s life for he did not have any family member to count on in the beginning; however,
towards the end of the movie, Michael found himself a family that cared about him and helped him
graduate high school. Whereas in the second movie, Bethany s family seemed to have a significant
role in her life for they encouraged and strengthened her to overcome the tribulation since the start.
Even though Bethany did not wait for anyone to aide her to get back up on her feet and be a champion
like she one was for she was determined, Michael s life and fate demanded him to have somebody to

Juvenile Justice In Juveniles
The act of justice is to provide both fairness and equality for both the victim and offender. With the
increase of juvenile offenders, the YOA was enhanced therefore forming the YCJA, which would
ultimately focus on ending the cycle of recidivism among young offenders, and as a result of the
YCJA being introduced, 42% of overall crime by youths had been declined from the year 2000 to
2014. In doing this the YCJA s main goals were and still are to recuperate the youthful offenders by
focusing on rehabilitation and reintegration, and looking at the underlying cause of the crime.
Although not acknowledging the suffering and constant fear that the victim and community go
through, as the result of the crime.
To achieve the goal of stopping crimes among youths, they have set forth to make reintegrating and
rehabilitating a big part of keeping juveniles out of prison for the remainder of their life. Meaning,
they try to instill positive behaviour and choices upon juvenile offenders by providing ways to try and
migrate them back into the community while maintaining good behaviour. This, of course, does not
happen without the assistance of YCJA counsellors and justice advocacy groups, as these groups make
it their main interest to provide constant equality and stability towards these offenders. As the young
offenders try to step in the right direction with the help of the YCJA, they are often given a created

Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment
Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including the
traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes, special
holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these elements of life are
distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as normal life in a way that
we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced with a situation where
things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural backgrounds, therefore
providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different origins. One of the biggest
elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever travel, one of the biggest
attractions to a new environment is the food that is served in that area. Some food traditions are
difficult to explain and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family or local group it is a sense of
definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with Cajun culture, we see many
festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals that serve it. My family, all born
and raised in the South, participate in the spicy food, crawfish boils, jambalaya sales, gumbo cooking
events that this culture offers. From a young age I can remember waking up on a Saturday morning in

Reports of God s Death Are a Bit Premature
The Reports of God s Death Are a Bit Premature
Arguing the death of God is a debate that will last until eternity. Regardless of exploration or religious
zeal there are far too many human viewpoints leaning towards the idea of and the strong need for
faith. Believing in God for some is as natural as walking upright and it would seem that through such
unquestionable faith God would somehow still be alive. But perhaps He is only surviving with the
help of life support.
For example, it would be difficult to tell a passionate Fundamentalist Christian that God was not alive
in his or her heart. Therefore, Nietzche s claim of God s demise would fall on deaf ears, for he or she
would, in a sense, be keeping God alive with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And if doubt alone didn t kill Him, combine it with a feeling of failure and a broken heart and it s no
wonder that he has passed on.
The question now is: what do we do about it? Because of this death of God the Idea, we must enter
into a period of nihilism where we will believe in nothing and doubt everything. Nihilism represents
the ultimate logical conclusion of our great values and ideals because we must experience nihilism
before we can find out what value these values really had. We require, at some time, new values
(Kaufman 131). Since we are humans and by nature we need to have some form of religion in our
lives, we will then begin to create a new religion, a religion of our own. This new Religion will be
based upon our own interpretations about our meaning and our existence. We will draw our own
conclusions and not rely on religion to simply do it for us. By virtue of having killed God, we will
become our own gods! (Kaufman 126).
The implications this sudden death holds for us are vast. But what is at the forefront is the idea of
rebuilding and starting over. It is not easy to start anything from scratch, and reinventing a new
religion for the human race is much more complicated than apple pie. We must begin to have faith in
ourselves as individuals, we must look inward and toward the earth. We cannot look solely to science
for answers, for there

Natural Light In Gothic Architecture
Since ancient times and throughout the history of architecture, to present days, natural light played a
key role in building design. In a physical sense, its interaction with the surrounding environment
affects and transforms the perception of space. It can also instigate and incite different emotional
reactions in humans. Light is also used and has been used in sacred architecture as a symbolic value.
Its manipulation can evoke feelings of spirituality. This essential natural resource in some cultures and
religions represents the manifestation of the divine. In this essay, I will use three influential
architectural style periods to compare the use of natural light in both a physical and symbolic sense:
the ancient Egypt period, the Gothic period in France, and the 20th Century architecture.
Ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians, designed temples taking into consideration the effects of
natural light. They intentionally directed the behavior of light to illuminate and emphasize space, as
well as to focus attention on rituals and elements such as sacred ... Show more content on

Uhigh Creek Water Quality
The question being investigated is, what is the water quality of the UHigh creek based on invertebrates
found in the water? The water quality is determined by the dissolved oxygen, the pH level, the
nitrogen levels, and phosphorous level. The dissolved oxygen is the amount of oxygen molecules
mixed in with the water molecules. If the dissolved oxygen level is low, then the water will become
polluted. Dissolved oxygen range is 1 14 parts per million or milligrams per liter(Riverwatch). The
aquatic organisms need these dissolved oxygen molecules to breathe and survive. Another factor for
measuring water quality is the pH levels. This measures the acidity of different solutions in the water.
A pH range of 6.5 8.5 is considered safe for aquatic life. Another factor for measuring water quality is
nitrogen. It is found as ammonia and the content of nitrogen in the water should be no more than 1.3

contaminate the water source. That could affect the water and the organisms living in and or around it.
Another reason why the water quality is fair is because many dead organisms were found in and out of
the creek. The amount of pollution in the water is caused by the phosphorus which can affect the water
quality in a bad way. If the water is contaminated, the organisms can t breath in the oxygen found in
the water. Once that occurs many organisms can die off and affect the water quality. The last reason
why the water quality is fair is because of the amount of algae. There was not a ton of algae found but
there was enough to hurt the organisms. Some algae can hold toxins which can affect the water quality
if it provides harmful

Lizst Research Paper
Katie Kuhlman 2/15/18 7th Grade February Composer of the Week: Lizst Lizst was born on October
22,1811 in Raiding, Hungary. His father played the cello and many other instruments while teaching
his son how to play the piano. It was easy for Lizst to pick up an instrument and learn it in no time that
s why at the age of six he was recognised as a child prodigy; by the age of eight he was composing
elementary works; and by the age of nine he was playing in concerts. Lizst father worked for the
Prince Nicholas Esterhazy. After Lizst played for a group of wealthy sponsors, he asked the prince for
extended leave so he could devote his time to help extend his sons musical education. Antonio Salieri,
Mozart s old rival, offered to train Lizst for freecharge. For many months the young pianist held
performances for kings and musicians. At the age of twelve, Lizst traveled to paris with his father to
seek admittance to the Paris Conservatory. The council denied him on school grounds because he was
a foreigner. His father was not going to give up because he took him even further and turned to
Ferdinando Paer to teach his son advanced composition. This was during the time when Lizst wrote
his first and only opera Don Sanche. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Five Factor Model Of Personality
The five factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates five
traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as
OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness
includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model
(1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has
been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of
personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor
model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best
theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different
aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory,
studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. However, this evidence
has been obtained purely from replications involving urban and literate populations. Gurven et al.
(2013) examined the universality of the theory further by obtaining a sample consisting of 632
Tsimane forager horticultural inhabitants of Bolivia. The sample was, therefore, illiterate and from a
native society an area of study not previously conducted for the FFM. The

The Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet Essay
Love is a very strong word, especially when you are directing it towards someone else. Love, and
affection towards someone can end in many ways, sometimes happiness, sadness, or sometimes it can
end in a tragedy. People shouldn t be able to fall in love with other people at first sight. First of all it
can be dangerous, because you do not know the person and second you do not know if he likes or
loves you back. But some people think differently, and this essay will be informed about two young
people who are deeply in love with each other, and how it all ends in a tragedy and who it is to blame
for. People always make mistakes or bad choices as Romeo did in the story. Romeo was the one to
blame for, for everything. First of all he shouldn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was putting Juliet s life in danger and his life also. Then later that day Juliet is demanded to marry
Count Paris or else she would get kicked out of her house, and would stop being in her parents´ lives.
On the next day after Juliet is demanded to marry Count Paris, Paris himself goes and talks to Friar
Laurence about the wedding that was getting near. Afterwards Juliet goes to Friar Laurence explaining
the problem she was having about being forced to marry Count Paris, and she did not want to because
she already had a husband which was Romeo. Friar Laurence then suggests that she should take a drug
that made her go to sleep for 42 hours, on the night before she got married, and then she would appear
to be dead and run away with Romeo. Later on, Friar Lawrence sends Friar John to Mantua to tell
Romeo how it was gonna go down. But the message was never delivered correctly, and Romeo finds
out the wrong information from Balthasar (Romeo s servant and trusted friend) that Juliet is dead.
Romeo was deeply let down after finding out that the love of his life was. Romeo then goes and buys
poison from Apothecary ( a poor, starving, skeletal man with massive eyebrows) in a little shop
Apothecary owned. Romeo knew that if Apothecary sold him the poison and someone found out
Apothecary could get put in prison, but still Romeo did not care and

Happy Endings By Margaret Atwood Essay
Margaret Atwood: A World of Feminism
American activist, Gloria Steinem stated, If you say, I m for equal pay, that s a reform. But if you say.
I m a feminist, that s a transformation of society ( Gloria Steinem Quotes 1). Steinem suggests society
is one that involves many problems that feminism tries to address and fix but, to change it would take
a complete reform of society. Margaret Atwood, also a feministic, uses her writing to expose the
issues, stereotypes and, inequalities in society that feminism focuses on. Atwood s feminism is
established in her short story Rape Fantasies through her theme of vulnerability and examination of
rape culture. The short story Happy Endings also by Margaret Atwood similarly presents her feminist
views but through exposing and challenging stereotypes. To begin, Atwood uses the theme of
vulnerability throughout the story to expose negative stereotypes about women. Firstly, the protagonist

do it puts her in a position of vulnerability. Estelle is explaining to the man at the bar that [she]
know[s] it happens but [she] just [doesn t] understand it (Atwood Rape Fantasies 6). Estelle s
ignorance puts her in a vulnerable state because she is unable to understand the risk the man poses and
this shows his power and intelligence over her. This unbalance of power and intelligence stereotypes
men as being superior to females which is displayed by Estelle and the man she is with. To close,
Atwood s feminism is evident through her use of vulnerability to expose the unfavourable stereotypes

Sunshine And Light In The Scarlett Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlett Letter is a satire based around a Puritan culture published in
the 1850 s. The novel is based around Hester Prynne, who commits adultery against her husband
Roger Chillingworth. Hester s sin causes her daughter Pearl and her to be treated wrongly by the
Puritans. The Puritans are ruthless and harsh towards sinners such as Hester Prynne, unlike the natural
world which is merciful and kind. The novel tells a story of characters trying to find their way into the
sympathetic light or lose their way into the deep despair of darkness. Hawthorne uses sunshine or light
as an element of forgiveness and innocence, while using the darkness to symbolize the evil. The
contradiction between the light and darkness can be depicted between Pearl who is favored by the
sunshine, Hester who is later favored, and Chillingworth who is enveloped by the evil darkness.
Hawthorne s use of sunshine to favor Pearl presents the understanding that Pearl is innocent and pure.
Pearl was brought into the world out of sin and the Puritans view her as a child from the devil. The use
of sunshine and light to Pearl s favor contradicts these assumptions made by the judgmental Puritans.
Supported in the text by Hester telling Pearl to acquire her own sunshine, No my little Pearl! Said her
mother. Thou must gather thine own sunshine. I have none to give thee! (Hawthorne 96) The text from
the novel supports Hawthorne s use of sunshine to favor Pearl because her mother

Apology In A Sorry State
In A Sorry State, the Canadian government s attempt to make several apologies is thoughtful;
however, simply uttering the words, I m sorry cannot undue the trauma of the past. The apology is
more for the people giving them, rather than for the actual victim. As Stephan Harper apologized for
Canada s colonial past, he said: it is the core of Canadian soul (Miyagawa 2012). This simply portrays
that the government is apologizing because it is Canadian of them to do so. This is a limitation of an
apology as it creates an overly celebratory image of the government (Farley 2017). Instead of making
the apology about the Aboriginal peoples, it focuses on the graciousness of the government.

The Effect Of Erich Maria Remarque s All Quiet On The...
The style of writing of an author can tremendously impact the meaning and purpose of their pieces of
literature. In Erich Maria Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front, the author s style of
writing has an extensive impact on how readers perceive the story. Remarque was a soldier during
World War I, providing him with first hand experience on the effects of war. These past experiences
allow him bring the novel alive using his memories. Erich Maria Remarque s style of writing has a
colossal effect on the novel because of the level of detail he uses when describing scenes and moments
of action. Using imagery and personification, Remarque paints pictures in his readers minds. When
describing the battles, he does it in such a way that the explosions can be heard, the smoke smelled,
the destruction visible. By combining his experiences with those of Paul, he brings the horrors of war
to his readers doorstep. A considerable amount of literary devices that Remarque uses is in the form of
personification. Especially when speaking of the battles and how:
The thunder of the guns swells to a single heavy roar and then breaks up again into separate
explosions. The dry bursts of the machine guns rattle. Above us the air teems with invisible swift
movement, with howls, pipings, and hisses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each type of weapon is associated with a different type of sound, which is what brings the reader to a
higher level of engagement with the novel. Combining sounds people are familiar with such as the
sound of thunder, a roar, howls, an organ, etcetera, gives Remarque the ability to envelop the audience
with the feeling they are apart of these battles. Almost as if they are standing there in the field or in the
trenches, watching bombs burst and smoke float heavily on the horizon. By using this personification,
Remarque is able to draw his audience into the lives of these young

2002 APUSH DBQ
2002 AP DBQ
In the years following the War of 1812, the Era of Good Feelings evolved between the years 1815 and
1825. In the first half of this period, there was a strong sense of nationalism throughout the United
States. However, political changes and economic differences between the states warped this
nationalism into the sectionalism that divided the country into north, south and west regions.
Celebrations of unity within the United States soon turned into disagreements concerning
representation within the government and the differences within the national government caused by
the emergence of different Republican factions. States distanced themselves from working collectively
in a united economy. They were largely concerned with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there was a high tariff placed on foreign goods. This was beneficial for the north because
it increased the chances of Americans purchasing the goods produced in their factories. However, this
was disadvantageous for the south. Since slaves were viewed as objects, imported slaves were
considered imported goods and were sold with high tariffs attached to them. The three regions were
becoming more sectionalist because they were becoming increasing concerned with problems facing
their own area, and not the country as a whole. The sectionalism that emerged during this time period
did so within a short period of time. This is easy to see in the election maps of 1820 and 1824. Within
these four years, the United States went from being uniformly supportive of one candidate (Monroe in
1820), to having support for several candidates. While much of the south was in support of Andrew
Jackson, the first president who did not have a formal education and supported the common man ,
much of the north backed John Q. Adams, the eventual winner. These maps illustrate the regional
differences that eventually led to the lack of a majority vote. Sectionalism became quite prominent
with the emergence of different factions within the Republican Party and eventually the creation of
new parties. Each region was sectionalist in that they voted for the candidate who would be the best
advocate for their area, rather than leader for their country.

Reactive Memory
Recent studies indicated that memory T lymphocytes contain distinct populations of central memory
(TCM) and effector memory (TEM) cells characterized by distinct homing capacity and effector
function. Protective memory is mediated by TEMs that migrate to inflamed peripheral tissues and
display immediate effector function, whereas reactive memory is mediated by TCMs that home to T
cell areas of secondary lymphoid organs, have little or no effector function, but readily proliferate and
differentiate to effector cells in response to antigenic stimulation (Lanzavecchia and Sallusto, 2000). T
central memory cells Human TCMs are CD45RO+ memory cells that constitutively express CCR7
and CD62L , two receptors that are also characteristic of naïve T cells, which are required for cell
extravasation through high endothelial venules (HEV) and migration to T cell areas of secondary
lymphoid organs (Campbell et al., 1998). When compared with naïve T cells, TCMs have higher
sensitivity to antigenic stimulation thus providing more effective stimulatory feedback to dendritic
cells (DCs) and B cells (Forster et al., 1999). Following TCR triggering, TCMs produce mainly IL 2,
but after proliferation they differentiate to effector cells and produce large amounts of IL 4 of IFN γ

A Pair Of Silk Stockings Gender Roles
In the short story A Pair of Silk Stockings written by Kate Chopin she explores stereotypical female
roles. These include thinking of her family before herself, as well as creating cloths for her children,
and she does not have time for herself. The protagonist of the story Mrs.Sommers has somehow got
her hands on 15 dollars and is looking to spend it which she has started to plan out. She says A dollar
or two should be added to the price usually paid for Janie s shoes (1 Chopin). This shows that she
thinks of her family before herself as she is planning on getting him better shoes. Another way
stereotypical roles are shown is that Mrs.Sommers makes clothing for her children as proven by this

Summary Of My Ancestors Were Rogues And Murders
My Ancestors were Rogues and Murders is a documentary depicting Newfoundlanders view on the
seal hunt; specifical residence of the Twillingate community. The argument being made is that the seal
hunt is not barbaric and evil as it has been depicted in the media. This is shown through personal
accounts made the sealers and residence of the Twillingate community. The residence explain the
history of the seal hunt being crucial to their survival in early years after immigrating to the island as
well as surviving economically today. A counter view of sealing is shown through the sealer s
confrontation with the International Fund for Animal Welfare(IFAW) who are opposed to the practice
of sealing. The International Fund for Animal welfare was discussed in the documentary as they have
tried to shine a negative light on the practicing of sealing. Their aim was to show the sealers as
oppressing the seals and asserting their dominance over a weaker species. Which raises the idea of
what socially and culture is defined as okay to be used as food and what is not. The sealers made it
known that the seal are used as a source of food and that they are not just clubbing seals for sport.
During the documentary it said that the seals were killed in a manner no different that of which you
would see in a slaughter house. So why can cows, pigs and chickens be slaughtered to eat but not
seals? The many of the people of Twillingate and other surrounding communities were raised around

Analysis Of Peggy Mcintoth And Male Privilege
In Peggy McIntosh s White Privilege and Male Privilege, she as a white woman herself was one of the
first people to acknowledge that white privilege is a phenomenon that is commonly overlooked in the
white race and made a point to think of many instances where white privilege was prominent. Peggy
McIntosh defines white privilege as, an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on
cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an
invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools,
and blank checks . To interpret this, she is saying that white privilege is an unacknowledged idea with
so many different parts and pieces to it, it is hard to classify it as just one thing. When she goes on in
the article listing situations where because of white privilege she would not have to be concerned
about the outcome; example 41 stated, I can be sure that if I need legal or medical help, my race will
not work against me (McIntosh). This example can be related to Brock Turners case given the
situation of him having legal trouble and having more things go for him during his trial rather than
having people working against him. It seems that the white race lives focusing on normalcy and
convenience, that when they are in a situation to help others they aim to make them more like
themselves (McIntosh). It only makes me wonder, how do they act when a more serious situation such
as rape is introduced, how it affects them. It seems that in tough situations, white privilege itself works
to show dominance and power over certain groups.
In Allan R. White s article Privilege, he takes a similar stance to McIntosh in regard to the fact that
privilege does not take one specific form. Although White does not primarily focus on the aspects of
white privilege, it is important to understand both parts of the phrase to get an understanding of its
whole definition. It is helpful to look at the word privilege separate from race to understand the forms
it can potentially take. Allan White defines privilege as, A notion coordinate with right, duty, liberty,
power, and immunity that someone or something has in virtue of being singled

Child Sexual Abuse
All children have certainly many experiences before they became truly mature. A child can face lot of
dangerous things from the environment surrounding them which might seriously affect their whole
life. As definition in the Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act: Child abuse is any action
from adult to a child that it could be harmful to the child s body or mental (Children Welfare
Information Gateway 2007). In 2005, among 3.6 million investigations by Child Protective Services
agencies in the U.S, an estimated 899,000 children (24.97%) were confirmed to be victims of child
abuse (Children s Bureau 2005). In generally, there are 4 typical kinds of child abuse: neglect,
physical abuse, sexual abuse and emotional maltreatment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is quietly simple to understand that children have to suffer certain visible injuries on their body
causing by abused actions. Sometimes, an abused child terribly bears a fractal hurt as broken bones or
burns. Even though, these damages are not only retaining on physical body but also changing child s
brain cells. In 2005, as report by the Administration for Children Families, amount 16.6% victims

Child abuse, especially sexual abuse, has badly influenced on the child s behaviors. Besides the
physical and mental painfulness, abused child might jump into bad social activities, such as:
adolescent pregnant, crime tendency, drugs addiction, etc. (Family Resource Center 2008). Based on
recent studies, there were ¼ of abused children became pregnant, almost 59% arrested as teenagers
and 3.8 times attacked by drug additions (Childhelp 2006). Few months ago, there was a heart
breaking story about Leatrice Brewer lived in New Cassel, New York who was arrested as a serial
killer of 3 children but believed not her blame because Brewer was considered as drugs additions and
experience of abuse during childhood (Vitello, P 2008).

There were an immense number of casualties resulting from the war, which deeply affected Europe s economy. Central and Eastern Europe, suffered a severe shortage of men after the war, and at one point the number of women surpassed the number of men by 20 million (Judt, Postwar, p.19). Western European states were short of labor and welcomed stateless people to begin economic and material reconstruction. Civilians homes all across Europe were destroyed, farms were no longer farmable, railroad tracks and bridges were blown up, and communications were severely disrupted (Judt, Postwar, p.21). Thanks to the poor election results, the USSR agreed to slow down its collection of reparations in Hungary in 1946, and in 1948 reparation demands were decreased by 50 percent. German reparations on a large scale also came to an end in 1948, largely thanks to the pleas of Ulbricht and others who knew what damage they had done to the communist party s reputation. In Poland and Czechoslovakia there had never been any official acknowledgment of reparations, and so there was no official acknowledgment of their end (Applebaum, Iron Curtain, p.252). • 4. Why Voting Is Important For Public Policy Voting is very essential and one of the easiest methods to influence public policy. You just need to be registered, and go to a polling station. It is simple because the government encourages people to vote, to hear a broad range of opinions. It is a form of direct democracy because when you vote, it directly affects the side or issue you support. Your vote is one more supporting opinion for a candidate or issue that is counted. Some people may think that their vote won t make a big difference, but if you look at it from another perspective it can impact smaller and local issues. Although voting is imperative because you are given this privilege at the age of 18, it is not the end of one s ability to influence government, but rather the beginning. Public policy is a system of laws that the government created for the citizens in order to maintain order. Public policy should be fair for all the citizens, however, on many occasions it is hard to accommodate for all races and social classes such as lower, middle, and upper class. An example of an effective method to utilize that influences public policy is civil disobedience. Let s use the policy that imposed high taxation on tobacco and alcohol to demonstrate one s ability to impact the government. First and foremost the policy is beneficial for the government because it generates revenue that is earned from the products, however the consequence is that it encourages illegal activity. There ... There are two different types of sources of finance: internal (capital from inside the business) and external (capital from outside the business). They also need cash to pay for materials, pay wages, and to pay the day today bills such as water and electricity. Investing in external sources of finance can include using bank overdrafts, loans and venture capitalists, all of which my business would use. Bank overdrafts are good because my firm would only need to borrow as much as it requires when it needs it most. Therefore this is mainly going to be used for occasional cash flow problems, for example over tight times e.g. January and February. Just one wrong turn led to a life of despair. It was his last time ever experiencing true happiness. Four years ago, Jeff was still in college when he met the girl of his dreams, or so he thought. Her name was Jessica. Jess was a quiet girl, but one day in the hall Jess bumped into Jeff and after that, it was love at first sight, though the both of them were too shy to say anything at first, they both knew from a spark in their eyes that they were destined to be together in someway. Weeks passed until one day Jess came to school but something was different about her. Most didn t notice at first, but Jeff noticed right away. Her hair was a bright crimson red color. In 1949, China s natural forests were nationalized and private forests were collectivized, this gave state enterprises control over the forests. The main problem that came out of this was that these enterprises promoted leadership with higher profits from timber production. This caused managers of companies to try to increase their profits from timber production but wouldn t use any of those profits for replanting timber resources because they had no incentive to. Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes, special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these elements of life are distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as normal life in a way that we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced with a situation where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment is the food that is served in that area. Believing in God for some is as natural as walking upright and it would seem that through such unquestionable faith God would somehow still be alive. But perhaps He is only surviving with the help of life support. For example, it would be difficult to tell a passionate Fundamentalist Christian that God was not alive in his or her heart. And if doubt alone didn t kill Him, combine it with a feeling of failure and a broken heart and it s no wonder that he has passed on. The question now is: what do we do about it? Because of this death of God the Idea, we must enter into a period of nihilism where we will believe in nothing and doubt everything. Nihilism represents the ultimate logical conclusion of our great values and ideals because we must experience nihilism before we can find out what value these values really had. We require, at some time, new values (Kaufman 131). Since we are humans and by nature we need to have some form of religion in our lives, we will then begin to create a new religion, a religion of our own. This new Religion will be based upon our own interpretations about our meaning and our existence. We will draw our own conclusions and not rely on religion to simply do it for us. By virtue of having killed God, we will become our own gods! (Kaufman 126). The implications this sudden death holds for us are vast. But what is at the forefront is the idea of rebuilding and starting over. It is not easy to start anything from scratch, and reinventing a new religion for the human race is much more complicated than apple pie. Another factor for measuring water quality is the pH levels. This measures the acidity of different solutions in the water. A pH range of 6.5 8.5 is considered safe for aquatic life. Another factor for measuring water quality is nitrogen. It is found as ammonia and the content of nitrogen in the water should be no more than 1.3 2.2 mg/L. If it is above this range it can ... The amount of trash can affect the water quality because the garbage can contaminate the water source. That could affect the water and the organisms living in and or around it. Another reason why the water quality is fair is because many dead organisms were found in and out of the creek. The amount of pollution in the water is caused by the phosphorus which can affect the water quality in a bad way. If the water is contaminated, the organisms can t breath in the oxygen found in the water. Once that occurs many organisms can die off and affect the water quality. • 22. The Five Factor Model Of Personality The five factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates five traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model (1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory, studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. However, this evidence has been obtained purely from replications involving urban and literate populations. Gurven et al. (2013) examined the universality of the theory further by obtaining a sample consisting of 632 Tsimane forager horticultural inhabitants of Bolivia. The sample was, therefore, illiterate and from a native society an area of study not previously conducted for the FFM. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Happy Endings By Margaret Atwood Essay Margaret Atwood: A World of Feminism American activist, Gloria Steinem stated, If you say, I m for equal pay, that s a reform. But if you say. I m a feminist, that s a transformation of society ( Gloria Steinem Quotes 1). Steinem suggests society is one that involves many problems that feminism tries to address and fix but, to change it would take a complete reform of society. Margaret Atwood, also a feministic, uses her writing to expose the issues, stereotypes and, inequalities in society that feminism focuses on. Atwood s feminism is established in her short story Rape Fantasies through her theme of vulnerability and examination of rape culture. • 25. Sunshine And Light In The Scarlett Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlett Letter is a satire based around a Puritan culture published in the 1850 s. The novel is based around Hester Prynne, who commits adultery against her husband Roger Chillingworth. Hester s sin causes her daughter Pearl and her to be treated wrongly by the Puritans. The Puritans are ruthless and harsh towards sinners such as Hester Prynne, unlike the natural world which is merciful and kind. The novel tells a story of characters trying to find their way into the sympathetic light or lose their way into the deep despair of darkness. Hawthorne uses sunshine or light as an element of forgiveness and innocence, while using the darkness to symbolize the evil. The contradiction between the light and darkness can be depicted between Pearl who is favored by the sunshine, Hester who is later favored, and Chillingworth who is enveloped by the evil darkness. Hawthorne s use of sunshine to favor Pearl presents the understanding that Pearl is innocent and pure. Pearl was brought into the world out of sin and the Puritans view her as a child from the devil. The use of sunshine and light to Pearl s favor contradicts these assumptions made by the judgmental Puritans. Supported in the text by Hester telling Pearl to acquire her own sunshine, No my little Pearl! Said her mother. Thou must gather thine own sunshine. I have none to give thee! (Hawthorne 96) The text from the novel supports Hawthorne s use of sunshine to favor Pearl because her mother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Apology In A Sorry State In A Sorry State, the Canadian government s attempt to make several apologies is thoughtful; however, simply uttering the words, I m sorry cannot undue the trauma of the past. The apology is more for the people giving them, rather than for the actual victim. As Stephan Harper apologized for Canada s colonial past, he said: it is the core of Canadian soul (Miyagawa 2012). This simply portrays that the government is apologizing because it is Canadian of them to do so. This is a limitation of an apology as it creates an overly celebratory image of the government (Farley 2017). In Erich Maria Remarque s novel All Quiet on the Western Front, the author s style of writing has an extensive impact on how readers perceive the story. Remarque was a soldier during World War I, providing him with first hand experience on the effects of war. These past experiences allow him bring the novel alive using his memories. Erich Maria Remarque s style of writing has a colossal effect on the novel because of the level of detail he uses when describing scenes and moments of action. Using imagery and personification, Remarque paints pictures in his readers minds. When describing the battles, he does it in such a way that the explosions can be heard, the smoke smelled, the destruction visible. By combining his experiences with those of Paul, he brings the horrors of war to his readers doorstep. A considerable amount of literary devices that Remarque uses is in the form of personification. In the first half of this period, there was a strong sense of nationalism throughout the United States. However, political changes and economic differences between the states warped this nationalism into the sectionalism that divided the country into north, south and west regions. Celebrations of unity within the United States soon turned into disagreements concerning representation within the government and the differences within the national government caused by the emergence of different Republican factions. For example, there was a high tariff placed on foreign goods. This was beneficial for the north because it increased the chances of Americans purchasing the goods produced in their factories. However, this was disadvantageous for the south. Since slaves were viewed as objects, imported slaves were considered imported goods and were sold with high tariffs attached to them. The three regions were becoming more sectionalist because they were becoming increasing concerned with problems facing their own area, and not the country as a whole. The sectionalism that emerged during this time period did so within a short period of time. This is easy to see in the election maps of 1820 and 1824. Within these four years, the United States went from being uniformly supportive of one candidate (Monroe in 1820), to having support for several candidates. While much of the south was in support of Andrew Jackson, the first president who did not have a formal education and supported the common man , much of the north backed John Q. Adams, the eventual winner. These maps illustrate the regional differences that eventually led to the lack of a majority vote. Sectionalism became quite prominent with the emergence of different factions within the Republican Party and eventually the creation of new parties. Each region was sectionalist in that they voted for the candidate who would be the best advocate for their area, rather than leader for their country. The unification of the ... • 29. Reactive Memory Recent studies indicated that memory T lymphocytes contain distinct populations of central memory (TCM) and effector memory (TEM) cells characterized by distinct homing capacity and effector function. Protective memory is mediated by TEMs that migrate to inflamed peripheral tissues and display immediate effector function, whereas reactive memory is mediated by TCMs that home to T cell areas of secondary lymphoid organs, have little or no effector function, but readily proliferate and differentiate to effector cells in response to antigenic stimulation (Lanzavecchia and Sallusto, 2000). T central memory cells Human TCMs are CD45RO+ memory cells that constitutively express CCR7 and CD62L , two receptors that are also characteristic of naïve T cells, which are required for cell extravasation through high endothelial venules (HEV) and migration to T cell areas of secondary lymphoid organs (Campbell et al., 1998). When compared with naïve T cells, TCMs have higher sensitivity to antigenic stimulation thus providing more effective stimulatory feedback to dendritic cells (DCs) and B cells (Forster et al., 1999). Following TCR triggering, TCMs produce mainly IL 2, but after proliferation they differentiate to effector cells and produce large amounts of IL 4 of IFN γ (Lanzavecchia and Sallusto, 2000). ... Summary Of My Ancestors Were Rogues And Murders My Ancestors were Rogues and Murders is a documentary depicting Newfoundlanders view on the seal hunt; specifical residence of the Twillingate community. The residence explain the history of the seal hunt being crucial to their survival in early years after immigrating to the island as well as surviving economically today. A counter view of sealing is shown through the sealer s confrontation with the International Fund for Animal Welfare(IFAW) who are opposed to the practice of sealing. The International Fund for Animal welfare was discussed in the documentary as they have tried to shine a negative light on the practicing of sealing. Their aim was to show the sealers as oppressing the seals and asserting their dominance over a weaker species. Which raises the idea of what socially and culture is defined as okay to be used as food and what is not. The sealers made it known that the seal are used as a source of food and that they are not just clubbing seals for sport. • 32. Analysis Of Peggy Mcintoth And Male Privilege In Peggy McIntosh s White Privilege and Male Privilege, she as a white woman herself was one of the first people to acknowledge that white privilege is a phenomenon that is commonly overlooked in the white race and made a point to think of many instances where white privilege was prominent. Peggy McIntosh defines white privilege as, an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was meant to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks . To interpret this, she is saying that white privilege is an unacknowledged idea with so many different parts and pieces to it, it is hard to classify it as just one thing. When she goes on in the article listing situations where because of white privilege she would not have to be concerned about the outcome; example 41 stated, I can be sure that if I need legal or medical help, my race will not work against me (McIntosh). This example can be related to Brock Turners case given the situation of him having legal trouble and having more things go for him during his trial rather than having people working against him. It seems that the white race lives focusing on normalcy and convenience, that when they are in a situation to help others they aim to make them more like themselves (McIntosh). It only makes me wonder, how do they act when a more serious situation such as rape is introduced, how it affects them. It seems that in tough situations, white privilege itself works to show dominance and power over certain groups. In Allan R. White s article Privilege, he takes a similar stance to McIntosh in regard to the fact that privilege does not take one specific form. Although White does not primarily focus on the aspects of white privilege, it is important to understand both parts of the phrase to get an understanding of its whole definition. It is helpful to look at the word privilege separate from race to understand the forms it can potentially take. Allan White defines privilege as, A notion coordinate with right, duty, liberty, power, and immunity that someone or something has in virtue of being singled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
