The Macroscopic Material Behavior Of Concrete
The macroscopic material behavior of concrete is influenced by the geometry, spatial distribution
and material properties of individual material constituents and their mutual interactions. Therefore,
it is essential to study the influence of each material constituent in order to estimate the residual
strength of the structural components. Thus, failure of concreteis a complex phenomenon due to its
multiscale and multiphase nature. When the normal stress in a material reaches its tensile strength,
the inhomogeneities in concrete promote the formation of an inelastic zone ahead of an existing
crack termed as the fracture process zone (FPZ). The FPZ is dominated by various complicated
mechanisms such as crack shielding, crack deflection, aggregate bridging and microcracking
around the crack tip and exhibits a post peak softening behavior under tensile loading. It therefore
becomes necessary to include these effects for predicting reasonably well the residual strength of
existing cracked and damaged structures.
Bridging of coarse aggregate occurs when the crack advances beyond an aggregate that continues
to transmit stress across the crack until it ruptures or is pulled out. The bridging aggregate may be
considered to exert a closing pressure on the crack surface thereby resisting the crack growth and its
magnitude strongly depends on the interfacial properties between coarse aggregate and cement
mortar. Upon loading of plain concrete beams under three point bending, it is

Coming From Childhood Into Womanhood
In Coming to age in Mississippi Moody describes her life from childhood into Womanhood in
rural Mississippi. Her autobiography provides incite into the atrocities committed in the south
due to racism and prejudice. Moody illustrates how the economic, and social injustices of the
1940s and 50s plagued her childhood. Inspiring her to make a change as a leading advocate
during the Civil Rights Movement. From her earliest memories Moody recognized the color of
skin would dictate her finances. In the first chapter of her autobiography, moody describes the
rickety one bedroom shack that was up on the hill with Mr. Carters big white house . her
sharecropping family lived in when she was four years old. Throughout her adolescence Moody
continued living in small, old homes, until Raymond builds the family a five bedroom home,
none the less the bathroom was still outdoors. Moody s incite of the economic contrast between
the whites and blacks of her town increases when she works white homes and observes the
differences. Ms. Ola s bathroom was a subject of awe for moody as a young girl, the white bathtub
and soft pink rug seemed luxurious to Moody who bathed in a tin tub moody uses a metal tub to
bathe in, so the porcelain white bathtub truly seemed luxurious to Moody. Similarly, to Moody s
less than suitable living conditions Moody and her family suffered from hunger, sometimes only
having beans for dinner. She recalled that Sometimes Mama would bring us the white

Comparing Disney And Pixar
Since this was your only feature film with Disney, how did that come about?
You usually don t get to get too close to Disney and Pixar like that unless you re a celebrity or
you re somebody on the inside or you know somebody. A lot of the journeyman work is done with
a loop group, and they pick up different characters. Friends of mine do that, and they do great.
The role came to me through my agent. It was Project X of course. And it was a paragraph. It
was an old time radio announcer, and I do all those from different decades. I m a big fan of those
old radio shows. So I just sent it in and forgot all about it. And a few weeks later, the agent calls,
Haaay! That s her voice when she s happy. So they flew me up to PIXAR, and I recorded up there
and did a session here at Warner Bros. with Pete Docter and the crew on the line as well. And
even then, it wasn t guaranteed that I was gonna make the cut cause it s PIXAR. Then we found
out not too long before the opening that in fact I was a big part of the beginning of the film, and I
was invited to the Hollywood premiere. {laughs} Welcome to Hollywood! That was really cool.
Jon Voightsat right behind me in the premiere of the movie, and I could hear him crying, and I

Abstract:
Introduction:
Portable Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (Portable LIBS) is a new technique for elemental
analysis and it is very fast, easy to use and also very light from other portable devices our portable
device is better for other devices, because we made this device for two things first to do LIBS

The laser pulse was focused with a lens (L1) of 10.13 mm focal length on to the target. The
plasma light was collected with second lens (L2) of 29.08 mm focal length through spectrometer.
In this system we also collect the image of the sample after the plasma light by using lens (L3) of
38.1 mm focal length through camera. The collected light is then guided onto a computer
controlled spectrometer by a fiber optics. A computer was used for processing the data from the

Essay On Rural Retrirification
SIGNFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study is important because it will guide the Government in future for making decision on
expanding rural electrification program in areas without electricity and it will also encourage
private participation in coming up with Mini Electrical Energy generation in rural areas like mini
hydro, wind and Solar. It will also serve as a reference for ensuring that the Government has proper
documentation on this area so that these positive impacts of rural electrification will be clearly
supported by proper documentation and hence this will help the Government to secure more
funding from Donors to further rural electrification programs It is believed that the availability and
reliability of information from this study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remote or rural regions lacking electricity supply face a lot of challenges for them to get
connected to Electricity. They may lie at a reasonable distance from national or regional electricity
grids (remote villages in the Amazon) and may have difficulties in getting connected to Electricity
(far from urban centers with a difficult terrain such as large rivers or jungles). Naturally they may
suffer harsh climatic conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task .
In adding to these challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend
relatively large amounts of their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount
of time collecting firewood from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources.
Rural electrification can have a positive impact on social and economic development in the
households, farms and establishments . If rural areas are electrified they may lead to certain
changes or social/economic development at the village level as well as at the household level. At
both levels, these changes might involve employment, incomes, productivity and others. In the
agricultural sector, rural electrification might lead to changes in irrigated area enhancing changes in
cropping intensity and cropping pattern, which in turn leads to changes in the use of factors of

Were De Valera s personal Catholic views responsible for the religious elements in the Irish
Constitution?
Eamon De Valera put much effort into the making of the Irish Constitution. In fact he is said to
have helped to confirm the stable, constitutional direction of the independent Irish state. The
Constitution is often referred to as De Valera s Constitution as it was something that he put so
much effort and time into. Chubb has said that at times, De Valera seemed to see Catholicism and
Irishness as the one and the same. He uses a reference from De Valera s Patrick s Day broadcast to
demonstrate this; Since the coming of St. Patrick, fifteen hundred years ago, Ireland has been a
Christian and a Catholic nation. All the ruthless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading it, De Valera replied that the majority of the work could not be used in the actual
body of the constitution, but perhaps in the preamble. It seems that the committee of Jesuits were
worried that Cahill had gone rogue and was adding bits to their suggestions without telling them.
As a result of this their report was to be a formal submission qhich would be sent to De Valera as
an official presentation from the Irish Province of Jesuits rather than going through Cahill as they
had previously been doing. Three intellectuals John McErlean, Joseph Canavan and Edward Coyne
were appointed to this project to help Cahill. Fr Coyne said that a constitution should define ......
the rights of the individual..... which he could not surrender to any Government. They looked to
the preamble of the Polish constitution for inspiration on the following subjects; the rights of the
family (in particular education), religion to be thought in denominational schools (where
possible), the state would not be able to dissolve a valid marriage, State relations with the
Catholic Church were to be defined by a Concordat, freedom of religious worship, ecclesiastical
property, private property, freedom of speech and of the press. These were initially taken by the
group from the Polish constitution and then tweaked to suit Ireland. Cahill tried to pass this work

What I Learned In Anatomy Class
My hand was sprinting across the page with charcoal in palm, and the finish line of my sketch
was in sight. The image of a model s face was quickly appearing, and the proportions of her eyes
to nose and ear to mouth were just right. Proportions of the human face were something I learned
in art class, whereas the details in her eyes were something I learned in anatomy class.
I never knew how much I loved science until my love for art developed. As a child, I grew up in a
home where my parents encouraged me to flourish creatively. While we lived in Europe, I thrived
on new adventures as they took me to museums, cathedrals, and castles throughout several

During my time there, I shadowed a pediatric doctor. While I was asking him questions, he was
called into an emergency surgery, and I was unfortunately not old enough to watch according to
the hospital restrictions. So as I was waiting around, a PA swooped me up and let me shadow her
instead. I was embarrassed to admit to her that I was not aware of a PA s responsibilities to the
hospital. Throughout the rest of the day, I followed the PA into patient rooms and recovery rooms.
I was able to observe how the PA interacted with patients with such a reassuring and caring attitude
that I had not seen with the previous physician I had met. I not only respected her compassionate
personality, but I related to it.
My senior year, I desired to see more of what life was like as a PA. Thankfully, I was finally
within the age requirement to stand in on surgeries. That day I saw the PA make the first cut and
suture the last stitch. Both were made with such precision and perfection. It hit me; the PA was an
artist just like Rubens, Giorgione, and Michelangelo. The sutures were just as beautiful as the

The Health Related Issue Bipolar Disease
The following essay will look at the health related issue bipolar disease first previously described
as manic depression insanity was seen as different from other mental illnesses by psychiatrist
Emil Krapelin in 1899 (Goodwin, Guy, Sachs, Gary, 2010).However the illness bipolar was
named in the 1960 s by psychiatrist Angsy and Perris who both understood the illness happened
in mania and mood altitude (Goodwin, Guy, Sachs, Gary, 2010). According to the National
Institute of Mental health in many cases diagnoses for the condition isn t diagnosed until the late
adolescent to the early adult years of a person s life. The reason being that the condition is not
easy to identity therefore, the life long illness can unfortunately go unrecognised for years until a
proper diagnosis is done (National Institute of Mental health 2012). The case study in this essay
was influenced by Heather a young adult studying for her PHD. The Nursing and Midwifery

Heather has openly spoken about her condition on a social networking site YouTube. Therefore her
confidentiality rights haven t been breached or exposed. This essay will discuss the dimensions of

England Throughout History
England. What is the first word you think of when you hear, England? You may think of their
history and its effect. Another thought that could be is London. London is the capital and heart of
England that has its own history. Throughout history England has contributed so much, good and
bad. With that contribution England is one of the well most known country that is known for poise,
history, and tradition.
English history began in 500,000 BC with a boxgrove man from West Sussex. He was the first
human known in England. In 55 BC Julius Ceasar invaded England for Rome. After Cesar took
control Roman control lasted for 400 years. From 449 550 Jutes, Angles, and Saxons arrived in
England and took control. In the beginning of the ninth century the Vikings came and invaded
England. The Vikings controlled North and East England. In 897 Alfred the great defeated the
vikings living in England. Another important date in England s history is 1067 when the Tower of
London began being structured. (England. China: CTSP, 2010. Print) In 1154 Henry II becomes
the king. The next king, John became king in 1215 and signed the magna carta. 1348 49 was a
hard time for England because the black death kills one third of the population. A long time after
the black death was over in 1476 William Caxton set up England s first printing service. In 1485
Henry VII is crowned the King of England. Also during 1485 the Act of Union unified the England,

The Significance And Meanings Behind The Use Of Symbols
The significance and meanings behind the use of symbols and iconography within Western
Christianity and Buddhism has evolved in the depiction of Christ and Buddha. The purpose of this
essay is to compare some key elements of Christian and Buddhist symbolism as pertaining to the
meaning of concept of God, the soul, suffering, and their view of religious concepts.
Concept of God First let s look the idea of God. According to the Christian religion God is divine
and is Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscience and that man was made in his image. Christianity s
approach is that man was created by an external God in which the goal of the Christian s life is to
be one with God. This oneness with God is considered to be attainable by following the ... Show

By following these teachings each Christian individual soul will be redeemed by the second
coming of Jesus, the Messiah, who will save the all Christian Souls providing everlasting life. This
relationship between the external God and the existence of an eternal, individual soul, the self,
which will go to either Heaven or Hell, is what drives the Christian faith.
The best way to look at the Buddhist conception of the individual being is to examine what he
observed as the three signs of existence. The first of the three signs is that of dukkha, the
universality of suffering . As an example of this concept of universal suffering is that of the death
of a friend or loved one, it is fair to say that all human beings have suffered this sorrow hence the
universality of suffering. The second sign of existence is that of Anicca this meaning the
impermanence of the self. This the reality that nothing is permanent in life that it is constantly
changing and this goes without exception for all things. For example we are constantly going
through different challenges in life and when one is overcome another one will arise. We go
through the aging process. We die. This is the concept that the only constant in life is change. The
final third and final sign of existence is that of Anatman which literally means no self or no soul.
This concept is quite different than Christianity view of the individual whom is defined as a
permanent being

The Sinking Of The Titanic In Futility By Jackie Robinson
Because the book Futility was written over 14 years prior to the sinking of Titanic, there is a lot
of controversy and mystery surrounding it. There are so many questions left unanswered, or
were they? When Robinson wrote the book, how did he come up with the idea of a ship hitting
an iceberg and then sinking? How did he design the Titan to almost be the same as the Titanic?
How are then names so similar? When Robinson wrote the book, did he know of the plans to
build the Titanic. These and so many other questions have been asked over and over again. One
theory is that Robinson was clairvoyant, and could see the future. He even has a small following
of people that believe that he was some sort of profit. If this theory was true, then

Analyse the key beliefs of a religious and secular world view in relation to ultimate questions Taylor
Murfitt.
In this report I will be both contrasting and comparing the religious view of Catholicism and the
world view of Secular Humanism. The three questions I will be analysing through the religious
view of Catholicism and the world view Secular Humanism include:
Is there a higher being?
What is the purpose of my life?
Is there a right way to treat people?
These three questions are very much conflicting worldwide and many philosophical discussions
have been debated for years, however with many different views on the world, not everyone on
Earth has the same answer to these. This may be due to different upbringings through youth, values,
and overall beliefs, including Catholicism and Secular Humanism. Within this report there is no aim
of finding the truth or the actual answer, it is simply an analysis of people s personal beliefs to
these questions. I am going to include others opinions including my own interviewee s (would like
to be kept anonymous) thoughts and beliefs throughout the report, including my own, and opinions
I have researched to further analyse opinions of different groups that can support these worldviews.
A brief description of the religious view Catholicism: A denomination of Christianity. I have
decided to specifically narrow my world religion view to Catholicism, which is one of the main and
largely practiced branches of Christianity.

Antisemitism In The Holocaust
In contemporary society holocaust literature is considered rudimentary by intellectuals, to
continuously remind young scholars about the Third Reich and Nazi crimes against Jews. Deep
reflection allows one to understand the desperation driving the nation in their pursuit of worldwide
domination. The serious nature associated with Holocaust causes the authors to be weary as not to
lower standards by creating a pulp fiction narrative. The authors strive to positively compound the
subject s potential, and gain momentum toward standards in integrity. Therefore, these authors
choose not to resort to secularism, deriving inspiration from Jewish culture and religion. For the
sake of the reader, the balance lies at maintaining respect for self and ancestors, while also keeping
audience interest. These authors burdened themselves with the survival of a people. At the core of
antisemitism is the denial of Jewish history, and especially the holocaust. Modern anti Semitism isn
t based on religion, but on the theory that Jewsare an inferior race. These ideas derive from the
Enlightenment period (17th 18th century) in Europe. The same ideals that motivated the German
sponsored holocaust of the 20th century.

you tell the story of a survivor whose people have been oppressed throughout history, and are still

Analysis Of Theatre Of The Absurd
The Analogy of Theatre of the Absurd Confusing, weird, and nonsense dialogue that exemplifies
the idea of the meaninglessness of life is a simple definition for a complex genre called Theatre of
the Absurd, which emerged after World War II. This genre has no goals or purpose other than to
focus on what people usually do not focus on, for example, secondary characters, slightest decisions
that make big differences, and events that do not have light shed on them much throughout stories.
One of the key elements that make up Theatre of the Absurdis existentialismwhich means that life is
meaningless and man can choose his own fate in life. Two stories that fall perfectly under this genre
of Theatre of the Absurd are Rhinoceros written by Eugene Ionesco and Rosencrantz Guildenstern
Are Dead, a story written by Tom Stoppard. Theatre of the Absurd is a difficult genre to define;
however, after analyzing both plays based on the established definition and criteria, one can
determine that Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead is a better representation of the genre. Theatre
of the Absurd is a genre consisting of confusing, weird, repetitive, and nonsense dialogue that
reflects the idea of the meaninglessness of life, while bringing up uncomfortable, taboo subjects.
The three main criterias that define this genre are existentialism, repetition, and the dream element.
Existentialism is the idea that when we start our lives we have nothing, and when our lives end we
have nothing.

Socrates and Civil Obecience or Disobedience
Essay: A Discussion on whether or not I believe that Socrates views in the Crito contradict his
views expressed in the Apology.
My position: I am in disagreement with this statement and my analysis, based on contextual
evidence, is as follows:
Although I could argue the question posited above from either position, as many have done before
and, as many will continue to do after me, I do not believe that Socrates waivers in his beliefs
between the two accounts according to Plato. The contradiction, it seems, focuses on whether or
not Socrates is a proponent of civil (dis)obedience, and the apparent conflict between the two
works revolves around passages from the Apology, that seem to be in opposition to his stated...

To further bolster his position, Socrates does not fail to point out to the jury that these other men
are applauded for doing such service to the city of Athens when he states, Each of these men can
go to any city and persuade the young, who can keep company with any one of their own fellow
citizens they want without paying.......pay them a fee, and be grateful to them besides (Apology
19e 20a). Since there does not seem to be a legal problem with them, and they have not been
accused of these crimes, Socrates should not even be standing trial on what is clearly trumped up
charges, and attempting to have a man executed unjustly (Apology 30d).
A
side from what seems to be Socrates overt contempt for the rulings of the courts, as stated in the
above mentioned examples, there are numerous other examples in the Apology defending my
belief that Socrates views, compliance of Athenian law, are consistent throughout both works in
question. In a passage located in (19a) of the Apology, Socrates not only refutes the charges
against him regarding his proported atheism but summarily solidifies his position as one who
clearly is concerned with obeying the law. In this passage he states, Even so, let the matter
proceed as the god may wish, but I must obey the law and make my defense. In yet another
example, Socrates describes a situation in the past where he served as a member of the council,

The Great Gatsby Pursuing A Dream
Today in the 21st century, everything has a cost. Yes, of course material things cost money, but, so
do actions. Pursuing a dream takes hard work, dedication, and time. While going after a dream one

the way of pursuing a dream, people focus so much on reaching their dream, they seem to forget
who they are as their self. Pursuing the one of his dreams, Gatsby s eyes were on her, not

Ethical And Unethical Dilemmas
In many research studies human participants are used to give us a better understanding of how
something works. There were numerous studies that involved humans that were unethical and
unjustifiable. Two examples that lead to major changes in research studies were the Nazi War
crimes and the Tuskegee experiment.
On December 17, 1942, the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union issued the first joint
declaration officially noting the mass murder of European Jews and resolving to prosecute those
responsible for crimes against civilian populations. These trials became known as the Nuremberg
trials or the Nazi War crime trials. The International Military Tribunal defined crimes against
humanity as murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation or persecutions on political, racial, or
religious grounds. (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, n.d., p. 1) As a result the
Nuremberg Code was developed which declared that human beings deserve the dignity of humane
treatment during medical experimentations. It outlines the following: The voluntary consent of the
human subject is absolutely essential. The experiment should be such as to yield fruitful results of
the good of society, unprocurable by other methods or means of study, and not random and
unnecessary in nature. It should be conducted as to avoid all necessary and physical and mental
suffering and injury. No experiment should be conducted, where there is an a priori reason to
believe that death or disabling

Magazine Advertisement Analysis Paper
By way of most magazine ads, this ad for Glassex window cleaner checks all of the right boxes.
It is eye catching, visually interesting, clever, effective, and gets its point across.Overall, it is a
very strong piece that the designer took time and effort to plan and create. However, there is much
more to this simple concept than meets the eye. By taking a closer look at this magazine ad, new
meaning and metaphors can be found in this image that both directly and indirectly connect to the
original objective of the piece. At first glance, the image obviously represents the common motif of
a magician and his female assistant. This brings about common feelings of mystery, magic, and

I associate magicians with the magician that was employed at the restaurant my family
frequented when I was a child, and I was always delighted when he would show us his magic
tricks and make us balloon animals. For me, this ad exemplifies the more positive reaction to
magic and mystery and reminds me of a time filled with wonder. However, I resent the idea of
using a woman as a prop in this piece, as it only furthers the objectification of women that I have
always disapproved of. The common motif of a young, attractive woman acting as a magician s
assistant is used in this ad to entice viewers to buy this product, as it has been proven by many
ads in the past that beautiful people can often sell themselves and their products much better than
those who are not. Viewers of this piece who feel the same way about the unsavory use of women
in the media may believe that the makers of Glassex products condone the treatment of women in
this way after viewing this ad, discouraging them from purchasing their window cleaner under the
pretense that they do not want to support businesses that capitalize on the objectification of
women. It is also important to note that the male figure in the ad is not attractive himself,
furthering the double standard that women are only used as sexual objects to sell products in
advertisement and men can escape that objective. Men are not expected to be attractive nor are
they faulted for it, and the effectiveness of the ad as a whole may be put in question had the roles

Into The Pinecone Essay
Into The Pinecone When one looks at the East Carolina University campus it is not hard to pick
which building has been delegated to the art students. From the outside Jenkins Fine Art Center
would spark anyone s curiosity. It is a building that resembles a geometric pinecone with
windows that scale a portion of the facets. Some of the windows have curtains, but others offer a
glimpse into classrooms and artists studios; where people can be seen striving to develop the
next revolutionary art piece. In front of the building sprawls a grassy field littered haphazardly
with large abstract sculptures and accent trees. The back of the building is somewhat of a visual
juxtaposition to the front. Commonly referred to as the yard, it is a courtyard surrounded by a
tall brick wall and an iron gate, making one question weather it was built to keep the normal
people out, or the crazy people in. Entering the building and walking down the white cinder block
hallway, one could easily forget that they are in a building specifically built for creative minds.
The hallway resembles that of any other campus building aside from the dusty footprints leading
the way to the ceramics room, the sounds of a metals foundry, and occasionally the reached smell
of burning acrylic emanating from the distance. Because the building was built in two parts, with a
few years in between, the room numbering is not always easy to navigate. However, being an art

Technology And The Modern Society
Technology plays a major role in everyday life for the vast majority of people. From things as
simple as cooking meals and cleaning the house, to things as complex as putting a satellite into
space or performing brain surgery, technology affects nearly every facet of life. This equipment is
the modern society s playground. Technology has affected the movement of people throughout the
world, the spending of their leisure time and the ways people communicate with one another.
Advances in technology allow for the transportation of people and goods to happen at blinding
speeds. History has proven that the time taken to travel between two points has decreased as the
travel technology has increased. Take Nate Damm, a recent TEDx presenter, for example. Recently
Damm walked across the United States, accomplishing the task in nearly 7.5 months (Damm,
2012). As a point of reference, the Lewis and Clark Expedition lasted 3 years, from 1803 to
1806, and started half way across the United States in St. Louis, Missouri. Only 200 years ago in
America s infancy, Damm, Lewis and Clark s walking from place to place would be one of a few
options available to early settlers. Moving forward to the 1960s, the modern automobile shortens
the travel time for this trek across America. MapQuest, a free online mapping and directions

about 48 hours to drive. Later in the same decade as the

Intelligence is the level of competence, ability to learn or to some people it is how well an
individual performs on an IQ test. The structure of intelligence is best subdivided into two
significant categories. They are environmental and hereditary influences.
Environmental differences can be divided into different factors. The deprivation model of social
class and intelligence consists of three variables. These variables explain, in terms of environmental
factors, development and performance which are correlated with social status.
The first of these variables consists of the combination of birth order, nutrition, and prenatal care.

Examples of this contribution are conceptualizations and symbolizations. An unwanted contribution
would be some situation where there are people with marital discord or if they are economically

cognitive situations. An example of this contribution would be to use positive reinforcing
contingencies. A hampering situation would entail adults who use aversive, neutral or random
stimulus contingencies. The last of these contributions refers to the schedules of reinforcement.
These contributions are categorized by a high number of people who schedule contingencies of
reinforcement in ways which maintain the cognitive repertories acquired (230). Greenfield insists
that people learn what they need to accomplish a goal presented by the environment. The
specification of a particular set of goals by the environment not only determines whether learning

a way of generalizing that particular concept by differentiating it from its context. Educationally
this provides a wide variety of action goals but even more important during the initial stage instead
of the later stages. This goal structure of the environment plays a most important role in early life

Essay On Dido s Suicide
Beyond what drives Dido to take in the Trojans in their time of need, she is also made sympathetic
through her dealings with Aeneas and the gods specifically, that almost nothing that befalls Dido
during the course of the story is her fault. When she and Aeneas meet, there is instant attraction
between them; Venus, concerned about intervention from Juno, decides to take advantage of the
situation by making Didofall hopelessly in love with Aeneas. In a sense, this can be seen as
beneficial for Aeneas, since he loved her anyway and this prevented any form of reprisal from
Juno or the Carthaginians themselves; however, it also meant that Dido lost any and all control
over herself with regards to her new love and bound her entirely to the whims of the goddess.

.) On direction from Venus, Aeneas enters Carthage and is taken by the beauty of the artwork

The Resilience Center Lists The Definition Of Resiliency
The Resiliency Center lists the definition of Resiliency as:
Able to recover quickly from misfortune; able to return to original form after being bent,

There are numerous points of view on resiliency, as non‑governmental associations (NGOs)

Bangladesh is on The Right Track Bangladesh, the eight most populated country in the world has
been plagued by poverty for a long time. In the year 2000, the United Nations created the
Millennium Development Goals, the purpose was to decrease extreme poverty by 2015. Thus, when
Goal 1; eradicating extreme poverty and hunger was included in the project, Bangladesh was
targeted as the country is overpopulated and has a high rate of unemployment. A considerable
number of Bangladeshi chose to migrate to other Asian countries in hopes of better life.
Bangladesh has made commendable progress in achieving the MDGs, especially in alleviating
poverty. The first MDG of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger is possible for Bangladesh to
achieve due to efficient government programs, assistance from NGOs, and the positive impact of
migration. Understanding the factors that causes Bangladesh to be a poor country is vital. The
main cause is overpopulation. Bangladesh is considered a small country when compared to it s
population of more than 150 million people. Therefore, the resources cannot be distributed
equally. Bangladesh is also a country that is prone to natural disasters such as floods. Many of the
rural poor live in areas that are exposed to extreme annual flooding which will lead to devastating
damage to their crops, homes and livelihoods. The victims often resort to moneylenders, which

Love and Death in Tristan by Gottfried Von Strassburg’s
Love always seems to find a place in someone s heart not by choice but by admiration. One who
admires another appears to feel something towards the person they are admiring and that feeling
they have can lead into the feeling of love. Despite all of Love s joy and excitement, Gottfried Von

outcomes that happen when two lovers cannot be near or without each other. Love s overwhelming
feeling often associates with death, in that those in love are so consumed with emotion and the

demand. Malaysia earns seven percent of GDP from tourism and stands to lose around $1 billion.
Airline bookings were down 40 percent by the end of April (International Herald Tribune).
Fuel price affect cost of living, especially prices of food as well housing due to the mortgage
crisis, have also increased. Therefore, the travelers are concerning about fare airline ticket that

A Hero As A Hero
Imagine if you were in a world without heroes that are brave, hardworking and show self
sacrifice. It would be a total nightmare if everything will be disorganized. If a hero shows they
are brave they will be respected and everyone will look up to them as a role model. For example,
people that are veterans, policemen, and firefighters show us the US citizens every day that they
will fight in a war to save our country no matter what it takes. For a heroto show self sacrifice they
put other people first in a life treating citation. For instance, a criminal comes into a store an older
man immediately goes in front of a little girl by herself. Hero won t think he will just do it even
if it puts his life in danger. Lastly, a hero is someone who is hard working. Say a person does not
get the job they want, they never give up and stick to it and work hard. A hero may make some
mistakes along the way but they remain brave show self sacrifice and work hard.
A hero is someone who is very brave. For instance, a person who is brave enough to speak their
mind about controversial issues is a hero. For example, Martin Luther King, Jr. stood up for all
the colored people who did not have a voice. He was aware of the possible consequences of his
actions, which included putting himself in danger; however, he still stood up for what he
believed in. He was a hero because he bravely sacrificed himself to help others have equal rights
in America. When a person does good things for someone else in need they are showing they like
to help others. When people help others in need that makes them a good person and you never
know who what will happen if you help that person. In the end, a hero is a role model to people all
over the world who want to be like him.
An excellent example of a hero is Pfc. Tristan Segers. In the article Soldier home After losing his
leg in Afghanistan Tristan Segers keeps going with his life not feeling bad about his leg. I just
told all the doctors that I didn t want my life to be different than it was before (Fiege 68). Even
though Tristan was knocked down, he got right back up and stayed strong. A hero is also someone
who inspires people to do good on their part. In this case, Tristan has a lot of

Public Education In The Film Waiting For Superman
There is an evident issue with the public schooling system in America today. Throughout the entire
country, kids are the victims of schools that fail to gift them with the knowledge that they need to
excel past high school. In lower class areas of the country, students are destined to become dropouts
because their educationsimply does not provide them a way out. In the film, Waiting for Superman,
director Davis Guggenheimclaims that schools are failing to meet beneficial education standards
for all students. Due to their demographic, children in lower class areas of the country do not have
access to the same educational opportunities that wealthier families receive. Throughout the film,
Guggenheim s use of music and pacing creates a powerful feeling of sympathy in the audience
towards the children that are not privileged to a better education because of their economic status.
By utilizing these devices, the film ultimately hopes to build on the audience s sympathy in order
to possibly ignite a change for the public education system in the United States. There are a variety
of ways in which music is used throughout this film, but the use of sad music and silence are the
two most important in terms of building a strong emotional appeal. By implementing these styles of
music, the film illustrates the emotional frustration within lower class students and parents who are
simply looking to find a beneficial education for their children. Melancholy music serves as an

Case Study Of Cranberry Juice
According to Mintel in 2017, Coca Cola, the parent company of Minute Maid, is first in sales of
juice with 17.2% of the market share. PepsiCo, which owns Tropicana, is second in sales with
12.5% of the market share. Ocean Spray is fourth with 6.4% of the market share. Ocean Spray s
considerable market share in the cranberryjuice category indicates that no other companies pose a
significant threat. Instead, Ocean Sprayshould focus on stimulating primary demand for cranberry
juice as opposed to other types of juice to compete with larger companies that offer a variety of
juice products such as orange juice, lemonade, etc. Although Minute Maid and Tropicana are not
specifically in the cranberry industry, they are Ocean Spray s biggest... Show more content on

Similar to Ocean Spray, they spend the most on Cable Television. The biggest takeaway from this
company is that they spend most of their ad spending capital on magazines, whereas Ocean Spray
eliminated that category all together (Redbooks, 2017). Moreover, Tropicana spends more than
double on advertising than that of Ocean Spray and Minute Maid. Tropicana spent around $64.5
million in 2015 and around $54 million in 2016. Similarly to Ocean Spray, they stopped spending
money on radio and newspaper advertising in 2016. Additionally, Tropicana also spends around $4
million magazines which is similar to Minute Maid s approach (Redbooks, 2017).
Advertising Agencies: Ocean Spray v. Competitors
Ocean Spray, Minute Maid, and Tropicana all use large agencies to promote their products.
According to Redbooks, Ocean Spray is represented by Zenith, a company who provides them
with Digital, Media, Media Planning, Media Buying, and Social Media services. Minute Maid
uses BBDO for its Broadcasting, Digital, Print, Social, and Creative. And Tropicana combines
services from three: Ogilvy and Mather for print, Doner for Media Buying, and UM NY for
Digital, Experiential, and Social Media services (2017). All three juice companies likely owe a
large portion of their popularity and notability to these agencies.

Different Types Of Wines By Ernest Hemingway Essay
Ernest Hemingway once said, Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the
most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a
greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing. More
simply and literally put, wineis an alcoholic beverage made from the fermented juice of grapes.
Wine making and drinking dates to thousands and thousands of years ago. In fact, the earliest
record of vinification, or wine making, is placed in the Bible in Genesis 9:20 21 where it states
that Noah planted a vineyard and drank wine produced from it around 4100 B.C. Over the years,
people have experimented making different types of wines with different kinds of grapes, which
have been split into 4 categories. These categories are Wild Vine, Indistinct Vitis Vinifera,
Distinct Vitis Vinifera and Hybrids. These different types of wines have been divided into 5
different classifications which are Table Wine, Sparkling Wine, Dessert Wine, Fortified Wine and
Aromatized Wine. Concurrently, these different wines are made in several different locations
around the world. The top producing wine country is Italy with the United States falling not too
far behind in 4th place. The wine that I will be focusing on in this paper is Syrah while the
location is Santa Barbara, California. I will also speak about Syrah in relation to Santa Barbara and
its significance on the region.

Developing a learning tool to encourage education in a stem subject
Introduction
The aim for this project as has been mentioned is to develop a learning tool to encourage education
in a stem subject, I narrowed this down to developing a game that would help a student learn
maths specifically. Since then I have narrowed this further and have specified that this would be
for around the academic year 7 so around the age of 11 but would still be appropriate for 10 or
12 year olds. To achieve this aim the objectives will be for one to train in game development as
well doing research to help establish the game mechanics or gamification elements wanted in the
game.

is to define gamification, deconstruct the process of gamifying a learning a learning program,
explore the limitations, and review successful implementations of gamification . In section 2 What
is Gamification the paper gives the example of gamification in action, it talks about an initiative

Legalizing Drug Use
The arguments that I have just laid out are not perfect and they have some apparent flaws that
some philosophers would strongly disagree with, while there are other arguments that some of
the great philosophers would agree with. I will critique the arguments that I have just laid out
using the perspective of three different philosophers who all have their own ideas of how the
state should function and the role of the citizen. The three philosophers that I will use in this
critique will be Karl Marx, John Stewart Mill, and John Locke. The reason why I picked these
three philosophers is because they all agree with some aspects of my writing, while disagreeing
with others. One will disagree with the role of the state and the citizens, but... Show more content on

Other citizens will not be born into a wealthy family, be well educated, and others will have bad
luck and end up in the lower class. There is also a middle class for hard working individuals who
are neither weathly nor poor, but have a steady job and can support their family. This will be the
largest class in the state. Marx would disagree with this because multiple classes will eventually
lead to the wealthy exploiting the lower classes. Marx would disagree with the middle class
being the staple to my society. In his opinion the middle class is nonexistent because one either
makes a fortune or hardly anything at all. Marx believes that there are only two classes in
society, the property owners and the property less workers (Marx [1884] 2011, 570). Capitalism
fails to unite the classes and have them working for a common good, instead it is based on greed
and competition which causes the estrangement out of the worker. The estrangement causes the
worker to become alienated during work. There are three reasons why the worker becomes
alienated and they are: labor is external to the worker, the worker alienates himself through labor,
and finally man is a species being and they lose relationship to the other actors. All of the reasons
of estrangement make the worker work a job where he does repetitive skills, feels unhappy, ruins
his mind, and works for another worker so that person can become wealthy off of their

Gandalf the Mischiefmonger Essay
If people tried to make an argument that J.R.R. Tolkien didn t used Norse mythology as a
backbone structure when writing The Hobbit in 1937, they would be without a doubt completely
wrong. Many creatures were pulled straight from the Norse myths and thrown into his famous
story, but did he use some of the Norse gods as structures for his characters as well? In the book
The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, he states that Gandalf is seen almost as an Odinic Wanderer ,
comparing him to Odinthe Allfather (Carpenter, C. Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien). Rather than Odin,
though, another almost unlikely god could fit the part of Gandalf s basis, and that would be the
trickster god, Loki, son of Laufey and Farbauti. Loki, without a doubt, would be an... Show more

They demand that he uses his not so noble tricks to return the goddess, along with her cherished
apples. Gandalf is not an outright liar, though he does slightly bend the truth throughout the story.
He is the reason that Bilbo is referred to as the burglar, as he puts the sign on the Hobbit s door
himself. Gandalf told the throng If I say he is a burglar, a burglar he is, or will be... (Tolkien 49).
His intentions for lying are more beneficial than Loki s reasons, though he is still manipulating
the idea of Bilbo being a burglar, convincing Thorin and Co. that Bilbo has experience with
thieving. Before they take off for their long journey, Thorin says to Bilbo, Aren t you the
burglar? And isn t sitting on the doorstep your job, not speak of getting inside the door? His
words show that he has some form of faith in Gandalf s white lie about the hobbit being a thief,
even though Bilbo had never stolen anything in his life. Both Gandalf and Loki are gifted with
magical abilities, and they rely their magic as well as their wit to solve their problems. In the
myth The Building of Asgard s Wall , the builder (or rock giant), offered to build a wall around
Asgard and for his payment, he wanted Freyja s hand in marriage, along with both the sun and the
moon. Odin turned to Loki for a plan, and he suggested to give the builder six months rather than
the eighteen months that he originally demanded. The builder agreed to the terms, with one

Jim Rose Review Essay
Intro and Background
In 2005, Sir Jim Rose was commissioned to conduct an independent review of best practice in the
teaching of early reading and the range of strategies that best support children who have fallen
behind in reading to catch up (Ofsted, 2005). Leading on from this, in 2007, legislative changes
were made the National Primary Curriculum, making a profound impact upon the teaching and
learning of reading and English in primary schools throughout the United Kingdom. These changes
were implemented from the recommendations stated by Jim Rose in The Independent Review of

CMPD Explorer Program Analysis
Last year December 2014 I volunteered with the CMPD Explorers and the Salvation Army to
provide gifts for children and their families all over the city of Charlotte, NC. The CMPD
Explorer program is a program that is for high school students in the Charlotte who want to be
police officers when they grow up or work with some type of law enforcement to interact with real
police officers. In the program we practice real life scenarios that can happen all the time, go on
trips, and volunteer in the community doing community service. I like the program because with
community service you can help out families who cannot afford Christmas. Every Christmas the
CMPD Explorers partner with the Salvation Army to provide Christmas for hundreds of families
and thousands of children all over the city of Charlotte. Until this experience, I never saw a
person who could not afford to provide gifts for their children for Christmas. I knew about poverty
was a thing but I never knew it was this bad.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Refletorical Analysis Of Admira Admiral Mcraven s Speech
In the speech that I just watched Admiral McRaven first talked about the importance of making
my bed in the morning. His lesson behind making my bed in the morning stood for the little
things. I believe what he said because I believe the little things do add up. The little things will
inspire me to do bigger things and then those things will inspire me to do even bigger things and
before I know it I will be doing huge things that will affect the whole world. During the speech
Admiral McRaven talked about the importance of having trustworthy people to help you row your
boat. This can help me in the real worldbecause I know I can t do most things on my own. This
concept teaches me to be humble and to realizethat it is okay to ask for help.

In life there are going to be people who try to push you around but the trick is to not let them and
to stand your ground. If you cower down in front of them then the sharks will eat you alive but if
you just stand your ground and act like you re an equal they will treat you as such. I believe
people treat you the way you let them treat you. If you let people walk all over you then they re
going to walk all over you, but if you stand up to them and show them they can t get away with
pushing you around they won t walk all over you.
In Admiral McRaven s speech he talks about being your best in your darkest moment. I think that is
very important. I think it shows really great character when you re your best in your darkest
moment. If you re great in your darkest moments you ll be that much greater in your best moments.
It is super important to show good character in your darkest moment because it shows the world
that it cannot break you. It shows that you have something different that is not of this world. I think
that when you re in your darkest moment a breakthrough is about to happen you just have to

Assassin s Creed Comparison
Fans of the successful video game Assassin s Creed are understandably excited for the upcoming
film adaptation, which will not only star critically acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender, but will
also be produced by the X Men: Apocalypse star. Although not much is known about the lead
character Callum Lynch, Fassbender recently opened out about his mysterious role.
The Shame actor shared a few details about Callum with GeekTyrant, and admitted that the
character has had a difficult past even before he found out about his abilities.
He is an outsider, Fassbender said of the character. He s been institutionalized from his early teens.

Change By John P Kotter
Introduction
The definition of change according to the Webster dictionary is to become different or to make
someone or something different. John P Kotter writes that change is always about changing the
behavior of people (preface XII) Kotter explains that change is a concept that is used by
organizations to restructure or improve their business behavior. Many companies find it difficult to
initiate change due to the lack of motivating employees or leaders. In his book, Kotter proposes an
eight stage process that could help organizations that are looking for change.
Discussion
The Eight important stages of change by John P. Kotter
Stage one: Establishing a Sense of Urgency
In this stage Kotter shares business stories of successful companies that increased urgency to
spark a change. He explains that there are four behaviors which could prevent change. Behaviors
like complacency, immobilization, self protection, you can t make me move deviance, and
pessimistic attitude that leads to constant hesitation. (Kotter and Cohen, p17) These four negative
elements have to be approached carefully because if they are not the employees wouldn t not
have any sense of urgency to perform any changes. To have a successful introduction to change
and for it to be received with urgency, it has to be presented in a way that the leaders of an
organization will back it up, because they are part of a larger activity aimed at helping to lower
feelings undermining urgency. (Kotter

Gaining High School Driver s License
The state legislature should not pass a bill that would require a person to earn a high school
diploma before he or she could receive a driver s license due to the fact that it is an inconvenience.
Parents would have to drive kids more places and the kids would take longer to grow up.
In high school, kids have a few options of getting to school: having their parents drive them, taking
the bus, or driving themselves. The most easy option is for them to drive themselves to school.
Being a licensed driver is a huge responsibility and is needed to teach young students how to handle
responsibility.
Along with making it easy to get to school, high schoolers that have their license are more
responsible and mature. Not every kid, but some, have to pay for their own gas. It also makes
kids more responsible because they will now have curfews and things that they need to meet on
their own. No more having mom and dad picking them up. If they leave and they re parents say
they need to be back by twelve, they are the ones responsible for getting themselves home at that
time. Having a license makes teens more mature too because they can start doing things for
themselves like getting food or going to a doctor s appointment. ... Show more content on

  • 2. The Macroscopic Material Behavior Of Concrete The macroscopic material behavior of concrete is influenced by the geometry, spatial distribution and material properties of individual material constituents and their mutual interactions. Therefore, it is essential to study the influence of each material constituent in order to estimate the residual strength of the structural components. Thus, failure of concreteis a complex phenomenon due to its multiscale and multiphase nature. When the normal stress in a material reaches its tensile strength, the inhomogeneities in concrete promote the formation of an inelastic zone ahead of an existing crack termed as the fracture process zone (FPZ). The FPZ is dominated by various complicated mechanisms such as crack shielding, crack deflection, aggregate bridging and microcracking around the crack tip and exhibits a post peak softening behavior under tensile loading. It therefore becomes necessary to include these effects for predicting reasonably well the residual strength of existing cracked and damaged structures. Bridging of coarse aggregate occurs when the crack advances beyond an aggregate that continues to transmit stress across the crack until it ruptures or is pulled out. The bridging aggregate may be considered to exert a closing pressure on the crack surface thereby resisting the crack growth and its magnitude strongly depends on the interfacial properties between coarse aggregate and cement mortar. Upon loading of plain concrete beams under three point bending, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Coming From Childhood Into Womanhood In Coming to age in Mississippi Moody describes her life from childhood into Womanhood in rural Mississippi. Her autobiography provides incite into the atrocities committed in the south due to racism and prejudice. Moody illustrates how the economic, and social injustices of the 1940s and 50s plagued her childhood. Inspiring her to make a change as a leading advocate during the Civil Rights Movement. From her earliest memories Moody recognized the color of skin would dictate her finances. In the first chapter of her autobiography, moody describes the rickety one bedroom shack that was up on the hill with Mr. Carters big white house . her sharecropping family lived in when she was four years old. Throughout her adolescence Moody continued living in small, old homes, until Raymond builds the family a five bedroom home, none the less the bathroom was still outdoors. Moody s incite of the economic contrast between the whites and blacks of her town increases when she works white homes and observes the differences. Ms. Ola s bathroom was a subject of awe for moody as a young girl, the white bathtub and soft pink rug seemed luxurious to Moody who bathed in a tin tub moody uses a metal tub to bathe in, so the porcelain white bathtub truly seemed luxurious to Moody. Similarly, to Moody s less than suitable living conditions Moody and her family suffered from hunger, sometimes only having beans for dinner. • 4. Comparing Disney And Pixar Since this was your only feature film with Disney, how did that come about? You usually don t get to get too close to Disney and Pixar like that unless you re a celebrity or you re somebody on the inside or you know somebody. A lot of the journeyman work is done with a loop group, and they pick up different characters. Friends of mine do that, and they do great. The role came to me through my agent. It was Project X of course. And it was a paragraph. It was an old time radio announcer, and I do all those from different decades. I m a big fan of those old radio shows. So I just sent it in and forgot all about it. And a few weeks later, the agent calls, Haaay! That s her voice when she s happy. So they flew me up to PIXAR, and I recorded up there and did a session here at Warner Bros. with Pete Docter and the crew on the line as well. And even then, it wasn t guaranteed that I was gonna make the cut cause it s PIXAR. Then we found out not too long before the opening that in fact I was a big part of the beginning of the film, and I was invited to the Hollywood premiere. {laughs} Welcome to Hollywood! That was really cool. Jon Voightsat right behind me in the premiere of the movie, and I could hear him crying, and I was like, This movie is making Jon Voight cry. Very, very touching moment there. • 6. Essay On Rural Retrirification SIGNFICANCE OF THE STUDY This study is important because it will guide the Government in future for making decision on expanding rural electrification program in areas without electricity and it will also encourage private participation in coming up with Mini Electrical Energy generation in rural areas like mini hydro, wind and Solar. It will also serve as a reference for ensuring that the Government has proper documentation on this area so that these positive impacts of rural electrification will be clearly supported by proper documentation and hence this will help the Government to secure more funding from Donors to further rural electrification programs It is believed that the availability and reliability of information from this study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Remote or rural regions lacking electricity supply face a lot of challenges for them to get connected to Electricity. They may lie at a reasonable distance from national or regional electricity grids (remote villages in the Amazon) and may have difficulties in getting connected to Electricity (far from urban centers with a difficult terrain such as large rivers or jungles). Naturally they may suffer harsh climatic conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task . In adding to these challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend relatively large amounts of their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount of time collecting firewood from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources. Rural electrification can have a positive impact on social and economic development in the households, farms and establishments . If rural areas are electrified they may lead to certain changes or social/economic development at the village level as well as at the household level. At both levels, these changes might involve employment, incomes, productivity and others. In the agricultural sector, rural electrification might lead to changes in irrigated area enhancing changes in cropping intensity and cropping pattern, which in turn leads to changes in the use of factors of ... • 7. Were De Valera’s personal Catholic views responsible for... Were De Valera s personal Catholic views responsible for the religious elements in the Irish Constitution? Eamon De Valera put much effort into the making of the Irish Constitution. In fact he is said to have helped to confirm the stable, constitutional direction of the independent Irish state. The Constitution is often referred to as De Valera s Constitution as it was something that he put so much effort and time into. Chubb has said that at times, De Valera seemed to see Catholicism and Irishness as the one and the same. He uses a reference from De Valera s Patrick s Day broadcast to demonstrate this; Since the coming of St. Patrick, fifteen hundred years ago, Ireland has been a Christian and a Catholic nation. All the ruthless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reading it, De Valera replied that the majority of the work could not be used in the actual body of the constitution, but perhaps in the preamble. It seems that the committee of Jesuits were worried that Cahill had gone rogue and was adding bits to their suggestions without telling them. As a result of this their report was to be a formal submission qhich would be sent to De Valera as an official presentation from the Irish Province of Jesuits rather than going through Cahill as they had previously been doing. Three intellectuals John McErlean, Joseph Canavan and Edward Coyne were appointed to this project to help Cahill. Fr Coyne said that a constitution should define ...... the rights of the individual..... which he could not surrender to any Government. They looked to the preamble of the Polish constitution for inspiration on the following subjects; the rights of the family (in particular education), religion to be thought in denominational schools (where possible), the state would not be able to dissolve a valid marriage, State relations with the Catholic Church were to be defined by a Concordat, freedom of religious worship, ecclesiastical property, private property, freedom of speech and of the press. These were initially taken by the group from the Polish constitution and then tweaked to suit Ireland. Cahill tried to pass this work off as his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The image of a model s face was quickly appearing, and the proportions of her eyes to nose and ear to mouth were just right. Proportions of the human face were something I learned in art class, whereas the details in her eyes were something I learned in anatomy class. I never knew how much I loved science until my love for art developed. As a child, I grew up in a home where my parents encouraged me to flourish creatively. While I was asking him questions, he was called into an emergency surgery, and I was unfortunately not old enough to watch according to the hospital restrictions. So as I was waiting around, a PA swooped me up and let me shadow her instead. I was embarrassed to admit to her that I was not aware of a PA s responsibilities to the hospital. Throughout the rest of the day, I followed the PA into patient rooms and recovery rooms. I was able to observe how the PA interacted with patients with such a reassuring and caring attitude that I had not seen with the previous physician I had met. I not only respected her compassionate personality, but I related to it. My senior year, I desired to see more of what life was like as a PA. Thankfully, I was finally within the age requirement to stand in on surgeries. That day I saw the PA make the first cut and suture the last stitch. Both were made with such precision and perfection. • 13. The Significance And Meanings Behind The Use Of Symbols The significance and meanings behind the use of symbols and iconography within Western Christianity and Buddhism has evolved in the depiction of Christ and Buddha. The purpose of this essay is to compare some key elements of Christian and Buddhist symbolism as pertaining to the meaning of concept of God, the soul, suffering, and their view of religious concepts. Concept of God First let s look the idea of God. According to the Christian religion God is divine and is Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscience and that man was made in his image. Christianity s approach is that man was created by an external God in which the goal of the Christian s life is to be one with God. By following these teachings each Christian individual soul will be redeemed by the second coming of Jesus, the Messiah, who will save the all Christian Souls providing everlasting life. This relationship between the external God and the existence of an eternal, individual soul, the self, which will go to either Heaven or Hell, is what drives the Christian faith. The best way to look at the Buddhist conception of the individual being is to examine what he observed as the three signs of existence. The first of the three signs is that of dukkha, the universality of suffering . As an example of this concept of universal suffering is that of the death of a friend or loved one, it is fair to say that all human beings have suffered this sorrow hence the universality of suffering. The second sign of existence is that of Anicca this meaning the impermanence of the self. This the reality that nothing is permanent in life that it is constantly changing and this goes without exception for all things. For example we are constantly going through different challenges in life and when one is overcome another one will arise. We go through the aging process. We die. This is the concept that the only constant in life is change. The final third and final sign of existence is that of Anatman which literally means no self or no soul. This concept is quite different than Christianity view of the individual whom is defined as a permanent being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Antisemitism In The Holocaust In contemporary society holocaust literature is considered rudimentary by intellectuals, to continuously remind young scholars about the Third Reich and Nazi crimes against Jews. Deep reflection allows one to understand the desperation driving the nation in their pursuit of worldwide domination. The serious nature associated with Holocaust causes the authors to be weary as not to lower standards by creating a pulp fiction narrative. The authors strive to positively compound the subject s potential, and gain momentum toward standards in integrity. Therefore, these authors choose not to resort to secularism, deriving inspiration from Jewish culture and religion. For the sake of the reader, the balance lies at maintaining respect for self and ancestors, while also keeping audience interest. These authors burdened themselves with the survival of a people. At the core of antisemitism is the denial of Jewish history, and especially the holocaust. Modern anti Semitism isn t based on religion, but on the theory that Jewsare an inferior race. These ideas derive from the Enlightenment period (17th 18th century) in Europe. The same ideals that motivated the German sponsored holocaust of the 20th century. This genre has no goals or purpose other than to focus on what people usually do not focus on, for example, secondary characters, slightest decisions that make big differences, and events that do not have light shed on them much throughout stories. One of the key elements that make up Theatre of the Absurdis existentialismwhich means that life is meaningless and man can choose his own fate in life. Two stories that fall perfectly under this genre of Theatre of the Absurd are Rhinoceros written by Eugene Ionesco and Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead, a story written by Tom Stoppard. Theatre of the Absurd is a difficult genre to define; however, after analyzing both plays based on the established definition and criteria, one can determine that Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead is a better representation of the genre. Theatre of the Absurd is a genre consisting of confusing, weird, repetitive, and nonsense dialogue that reflects the idea of the meaninglessness of life, while bringing up uncomfortable, taboo subjects. Since there does not seem to be a legal problem with them, and they have not been accused of these crimes, Socrates should not even be standing trial on what is clearly trumped up charges, and attempting to have a man executed unjustly (Apology 30d). A side from what seems to be Socrates overt contempt for the rulings of the courts, as stated in the above mentioned examples, there are numerous other examples in the Apology defending my belief that Socrates views, compliance of Athenian law, are consistent throughout both works in question. There were numerous studies that involved humans that were unethical and unjustifiable. Two examples that lead to major changes in research studies were the Nazi War crimes and the Tuskegee experiment. On December 17, 1942, the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union issued the first joint declaration officially noting the mass murder of European Jews and resolving to prosecute those responsible for crimes against civilian populations. These trials became known as the Nuremberg trials or the Nazi War crime trials. The International Military Tribunal defined crimes against humanity as murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation or persecutions on political, racial, or religious grounds. (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, n.d., p. 1) As a result the Nuremberg Code was developed which declared that human beings deserve the dignity of humane treatment during medical experimentations. It outlines the following: The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential. The experiment should be such as to yield fruitful results of the good of society, unprocurable by other methods or means of study, and not random and unnecessary in nature. However, I resent the idea of using a woman as a prop in this piece, as it only furthers the objectification of women that I have always disapproved of. The common motif of a young, attractive woman acting as a magician s assistant is used in this ad to entice viewers to buy this product, as it has been proven by many ads in the past that beautiful people can often sell themselves and their products much better than those who are not. Viewers of this piece who feel the same way about the unsavory use of women in the media may believe that the makers of Glassex products condone the treatment of women in this way after viewing this ad, discouraging them from purchasing their window cleaner under the pretense that they do not want to support businesses that capitalize on the objectification of women. These contributions are categorized by a high number of people who schedule contingencies of reinforcement in ways which maintain the cognitive repertories acquired (230). Greenfield insists that people learn what they need to accomplish a goal presented by the environment. The specification of a particular set of goals by the environment not only determines whether learning (255). In an experiment done on children, Werner and Kaplan found out that variable verbal and action contexts for a certain concept provide a way of generalizing that particular concept by differentiating it from its context. Educationally this provides a wide variety of action goals but even more important during the initial stage instead of the later stages. The first line ends with the word soon (a), the second line ends with the word powers (b), the third line ends with the word ours (b), and the fourth line ends with the word boon (a). One who admires another appears to feel something towards the person they are admiring and that feeling they have can lead into the feeling of love. Despite all of Love s joy and excitement, Gottfried Von Strassburg s Tristanand Thomas Tristan, reveals the way loveoverwhelms a person and the outcomes that happen when two lovers cannot be near or without each other. If a hero shows they are brave they will be respected and everyone will look up to them as a role model. For example, people that are veterans, policemen, and firefighters show us the US citizens every day that they will fight in a war to save our country no matter what it takes. Throughout the entire country, kids are the victims of schools that fail to gift them with the knowledge that they need to excel past high school. In the film, Waiting for Superman, director Davis Guggenheimclaims that schools are failing to meet beneficial education standards for all students. Due to their demographic, children in lower class areas of the country do not have access to the same educational opportunities that wealthier families receive. Throughout the film, Guggenheim s use of music and pacing creates a powerful feeling of sympathy in the audience towards the children that are not privileged to a better education because of their economic status. By utilizing these devices, the film ultimately hopes to build on the audience s sympathy in order to possibly ignite a change for the public education system in the United States. Different Types Of Wines By Ernest Hemingway Essay Ernest Hemingway once said, Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing. More simply and literally put, wineis an alcoholic beverage made from the fermented juice of grapes. Wine making and drinking dates to thousands and thousands of years ago. In fact, the earliest record of vinification, or wine making, is placed in the Bible in Genesis 9:20 21 where it states that Noah planted a vineyard and drank wine produced from it around 4100 B.C. Over the years, people have experimented making different types of wines with different kinds of grapes, which have been split into 4 categories. These categories are Wild Vine, Indistinct Vitis Vinifera, Distinct Vitis Vinifera and Hybrids. These different types of wines have been divided into 5 different classifications which are Table Wine, Sparkling Wine, Dessert Wine, Fortified Wine and Aromatized Wine. Concurrently, these different wines are made in several different locations around the world. The top producing wine country is Italy with the United States falling not too far behind in 4th place. Marx would disagree with this because multiple classes will eventually lead to the wealthy exploiting the lower classes. Marx would disagree with the middle class being the staple to my society. In his opinion the middle class is nonexistent because one either makes a fortune or hardly anything at all. Marx believes that there are only two classes in society, the property owners and the property less workers (Marx [1884] 2011, 570). • 53. CMPD Explorer Program Analysis Last year December 2014 I volunteered with the CMPD Explorers and the Salvation Army to provide gifts for children and their families all over the city of Charlotte, NC. The CMPD Explorer program is a program that is for high school students in the Charlotte who want to be police officers when they grow up or work with some type of law enforcement to interact with real police officers. In the program we practice real life scenarios that can happen all the time, go on trips, and volunteer in the community doing community service. I like the program because with community service you can help out families who cannot afford Christmas. Every Christmas the CMPD Explorers partner with the Salvation Army to provide Christmas for hundreds of families and thousands of children all over the city of Charlotte. Until this experience, I never saw a person who could not afford to provide gifts for their children for Christmas. I knew about poverty was a thing but I never knew it was this bad.... • 54. Refletorical Analysis Of Admira Admiral Mcraven s Speech In the speech that I just watched Admiral McRaven first talked about the importance of making my bed in the morning. His lesson behind making my bed in the morning stood for the little things. I believe what he said because I believe the little things do add up. The little things will inspire me to do bigger things and then those things will inspire me to do even bigger things and before I know it I will be doing huge things that will affect the whole world. During the speech Admiral McRaven talked about the importance of having trustworthy people to help you row your boat. This can help me in the real worldbecause I know I can t do most things on my own. This concept teaches me to be humble and to realizethat it is okay to ask for help. In the speech ... If you cower down in front of them then the sharks will eat you alive but if you just stand your ground and act like you re an equal they will treat you as such. I believe people treat you the way you let them treat you. If you let people walk all over you then they re going to walk all over you, but if you stand up to them and show them they can t get away with pushing you around they won t walk all over you. In Admiral McRaven s speech he talks about being your best in your darkest moment. I think that is very important. I think it shows really great character when you re your best in your darkest moment. If you re great in your darkest moments you ll be that much greater in your best moments. It is super important to show good character in your darkest moment because it shows the world that it cannot break you. It shows that you have something different that is not of this world. • 56. Change By John P Kotter Introduction The definition of change according to the Webster dictionary is to become different or to make someone or something different. John P Kotter writes that change is always about changing the behavior of people (preface XII) Kotter explains that change is a concept that is used by organizations to restructure or improve their business behavior. Many companies find it difficult to initiate change due to the lack of motivating employees or leaders. In his book, Kotter proposes an eight stage process that could help organizations that are looking for change. Discussion The Eight important stages of change by John P. Kotter Stage one: Establishing a Sense of Urgency In this stage Kotter shares business stories of successful companies that increased urgency to spark a change. He explains that there are four behaviors which could prevent change. Behaviors like complacency, immobilization, self protection, you can t make me move deviance, and pessimistic attitude that leads to constant hesitation. (Kotter and Cohen, p17) These four negative elements have to be approached carefully because if they are not the employees wouldn t not have any sense of urgency to perform any changes. To have a successful introduction to change and for it to be received with urgency, it has to be presented in a way that the leaders of an organization will back it up, because they are part of a larger activity aimed at helping to lower feelings undermining urgency. • 57. Gaining High School Driver s License The state legislature should not pass a bill that would require a person to earn a high school diploma before he or she could receive a driver s license due to the fact that it is an inconvenience. Parents would have to drive kids more places and the kids would take longer to grow up. In high school, kids have a few options of getting to school: having their parents drive them, taking the bus, or driving themselves. The most easy option is for them to drive themselves to school. Being a licensed driver is a huge responsibility and is needed to teach young students how to handle responsibility. Along with making it easy to get to school, high schoolers that have their license are more responsible and mature. Not every kid, but some, have to pay for their own gas. It also makes kids more responsible because they will now have curfews and things that they need to meet on their own. No more having mom and dad picking them up. If they leave and they re parents say they need to be back by twelve, they are the ones responsible for getting themselves home at that time. Having a license makes teens more mature too because they can start doing things for themselves like getting food or going to a doctor s appointment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
