The Disney Princess In Disney
Disney princesses have always been seen in the public eye as dependent on their prince
charming. When thinking about the very first princesses Disney put on the screen, such as
Snow white, Cinderella, sleeping beauty and so on, they have never been thought of as very
strong or independent women. In most of the early Disney princess movies, the underlying
theme is that the princess is always in search of or waiting to be rescued by the male character.
With, this is one of the most prominent reasons why Orenstein did not want her daughter
listening to the snow white tale. She did not want to expose her daughter to thinking that the
traits or characteristics that the princesses display were how women should act or be
represented. Orenstein had several reservations when it came to her daughter learning about
snow white and the other Disney princess. In the text, it talked about when her daughter was on
the floor laying down waiting for her prince to come and give her the kiss that would save her.
This was one of the reasons Orenstein didn t choose to tell her about show white, she thought
that her daughter did not need to wait on any male figure to come save her and that she could be
her own savor. Snow white, as many of the other princesses, depended on their prince to come
save them. For example, when she ate the apple, she was to wait for the prince to wake her up
from her dream instead of depending herself. Another reason why she did not want to expose her
daughter to

The Future Of Transportation, Electricity, And Energy
When Benjamin Franklin first discovered electricity, it was one of the biggest discoveries known
to mankind. Even though our dependence on electricity is enormous, it is still easy to forget just
how dependent we are on electricity. Electricity has played a huge part in our everyday lives and
will continue to do so. In fact, it is quite hard to imagine humanity without electricity. When it
comes to transportation, electricity will someday rewrite the history books. One of the most
important issues in the future of transportation is to decrease emissions. The amount of people
that are driving individual vehicles will also need to be reduced. One of the bigger problems is that
we are using our fossil fuels in a bad manner and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because they are supposed to give power during a large amount of time. In result, deep
cycle batteries are used instead of SLI batteries for these applications. Many current technologies
have much lower specific energy which impacts the maximum all electric range of the vehicles.
On the other hand, metal air batteries have high specific energy because the cathode is provided
by the surrounding oxygen in the air. One definite application of electromagnetic technology
relates to a form of transportation that might appear to be old news at first, which is trains.
However, magnetic levitation trains are as far removed from the old stream engines of the
Union Pacific as the space shuttle is from the Wright brothers experimental airplane. Those type
of engines most likely laid the ground work for the other engines even though they are very old
fashioned. Having some basic knowledge of the various sciences as it is a starting point for
Maglev would most likely be in best interest. Having some basic knowledge on how to assign
common variables to physics terms and a brief overview of the laws of chemistry dealing with
magnetism is very important. This is so important because most of, if not all the equations used to
determine how the Maglev trains move is derived from formulas used to calculate electric current.
You have to understand the use of magnetism in

The History of Windows
Ever since the invention of the micro computer, there has been a definitive war between companies
competing for their share of the professional and private computer market. There have been
hundreds of operating systems produced over the years, most of them were not able to maintain a
solid customer base, and became extinct. There are a few, however, that have eclipsed the computer
world. There is a definite line between consumers for the three most popular operating systems,
UNIX, Macintosh, and Windows. Microsoft, who produced Windows, gained wide public support
almost from the beginning, leading to a near monopolization of the computer software industry.
Here is a history of the Windows operating system as it was introduced back in... Show more

This version was the last to boast 100% backward compatibility with older windows applications.
It was based on the new Intel 386 processor, which greatly improved speed and reliability. This
version of Windows also first implemented the use of third party device drivers, allowing for
more focus on writing applications rather than device drivers. Graphical upgrades included the
icon based file manager and program manager, making access to data much easier. The addition
of the well known card game solitaire also made its debut in the 3.0 version of Windows.
Another big leap for Windows 3.x was that it could run in three different memory modes
(Windows Products and Technologies History, 2006). Real mode s only use was for the running
of applications built for Windows 2.x. Standard mode was the most common running mode, as it
was most compatible with the 286 processor and 1 MB of memory that were in most computers
at that time. The last was 386 Enhanced Mode, implemented with all the benefits of standard
mode, plus 32 bit addressing and paging for faster memory access. In 386 Enhanced mode, the
user could run several MS DOS based programs, each in their own window, at the same time.
Third party programming support for the 3.0 version exploded, and application companies all
over the world were developing programs compatible with Windows 3.0. In the first year of its
release, version 3.0 sold

Hurricane Katrina In The Bahamas
Hurricane Katrina

Jackson was interviewed about the storm, I could see the house next door turn into a living,
breathing monster, as the wind and pressure pushes the house out and in like a breathing creature.
Hurricane Katrina, created above the warm blue waters surrounded the Bahamas that destroyed
many homes and took many lives.
For instance, hurricanes are deadly, but there are many ways to survive them. Like listening to the

Beyonce s Irreplaceable Music Video Analysis
In BeyoncГ© s Irreplaceable music video the viewer will see a very complex story being told by
the artist. BeyoncГ© stars as the main character in this video that has been cheated on by her
boyfriend and she is done with him (beyonceVEVO). As the title proclaims, BeyoncГ© is
explaining to the now ex boyfriend that she is impossible to replace if lost or damaged. Throughout
this music videothe viewer can see many examples of BeyoncГ© s monstrous femininity. The first
example of monstrous femininity seen in this video is at the very beginning. At the still frame of

Women in today s society, have been taught to bow down to the man, to be cooperative to the
man s needs, and to understand that it is in a man s nature to cheat (Evolutionary Physch).
However, BeyoncГ© will not conform to society s belief of how she should handle this situation
and proceeds to kick him out. This shows one of BeyoncГ© monstrosity s: independence. The
second example of monstrous femininity seen in this video is at the still frame of 1:09,
BeyoncГ© is seen fully covered in all black (beyonceVEVO). This is a very important fact
because many times men will use a woman s sexuality to discredit her from the issue at hand.
However, BeyoncГ© is showing no skin, no sexual attraction, and keeping the focus on her power.
She is redirecting the male gaze from her body and putting the attention on the fact that she has
enough power eo kick a strong and powerful male out of her house. This shows BeyoncГ© second
monstrosity: authority. The third example of BeyoncГ© monstrous femininity can be seen at 1:51

Government Lobbying
According to the text, many co operations use their own employees to lobby. Some companies have
governmental affairs departments or offices staffed by employees with experience in government
or public affairs. Lobbying also comes with its own expenditures, these include; amounts allocated
to the staff, entertainment and gifts. Lobbying is a form of communication made on another s
behalf and intended to influence government s decision. There should be limits in place for the
amount of money companies and groups spend on lobbying in Texas. Companies spend way too
much money on lobby contracts. Money that could be spent on other resources. John Craig explains

There are some interest groups that are extremely powerful and exercise considerable influence
over the formation of public policy, whereas others are ineffectual and weak. (101). There are
various factors that make a group more powerful than the other. Financial resources determines
the group s power. Organizations representing large co operations are at a much better position
to raise funds. It is unfair for regular citizens because they would not be heard because of less
collective power and less money for campaign contributions. Citizens need to be heard too,
regardless of their financial capabilities. Powerful interest groups do not make it possible for the
citizens voices to be heard. The same applies to the groups that represent low income people, they
have it difficult raising the money required for lobbying. Overally, lobbying and interest groups are
in the best interest of democracy. A recent study by lawmakers of Wisconsin, found that lobbying
has a significant effect on legislative outcomes. Lobbying has a negative connotation for many
Texans but it is essential to elected and appointed lawmakers who depend on the information,
coalition building and public support of groups for their decisions.

Compare and contrast the social and economic policies of Alexander II (1855 81) and Alexander III
(1881 94) of Russia.
Alexander II and Alexander III were both Tsars of Russia and they both believed in the divine
will to rule the people. However Alexander II is said to be more liberal than Alexander III though
they were both conservative in one way or the other in their social and economic policies because
they both wanted to remain with the power over the people. Alexander II was more relaxed in his

Tape Recorder Essay
INTRODUCTION: Tape recorder was invented for recording sound by Fritz Pfleumer in 1928
based on the invention of magnetic wire recording by valdemar poulsen in 1898.The first tape
recorder from AGE was the magnetophon K1, demonstrated in Germany in 1935.Eduard schuller
of AGE built the recorders and developed a ring shaped recording and playback head. A tape
recorderis a portable electronic gadget used to record, reproduce, erase and rerecord sound on a
magnetic tape. This devise can be used without any problem anybody by operating the press
buttons attached to the recorder, viz. stop, play, wind, rewind, record, pause and reject .
GUIDELINES FOR USING A TAPE RECORDER IN TEACHING
п‚ўFunctions of tape and recorded cassette must be ensured before its use.

World War I Was An Option Of Peace Or War
WWI
Given the option of peace or war there is an obvious choice. Do not be fooled because there is
only a single way to obtain peace and that is to surrender. To appease those who oppose you and
to want to live on your knees than die on your feet. This sort of idea is heard from many who are
safe at home, eating dinner with their families and watching reality tv. Many things can pit
countries against each other and those things can also push them to war. The slaughtering of
thousands for the sake of materialistic desires is a disease that can numb the sense of morality.

Princip was dying and saw the pain and anger of his fellow man and wanted to die for something
he believed in. Not to die a victim of disease but a hero of his people. So he assassinated an

you have those who will oppress you will have those who are willing to die to free themselves and
those around them.
Martin A. Treptow was a young man who went to France in 1917 with the Rainbow Division. He
was killed on the western front while trying to deliver messages between battalions under heavy
artillery fire. On his dead body they found his diary, in it this man wrote an entry under the
flyleaf. America must win this war. Therefore, I will work. I will save. I will sacrifice. I will
endure. I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost as if the issue of the whole struggle depended
on me alone. People often forget why the soldier goes to fight. They forget that millions,
forgetting the sides, died because of things that could have been prevented. Some would argue
that they could have reached an agreement diplomatically by talking and discussing the
problems. To talk out these issues, the speakers must be equal. Those who oppress and those
who are oppressed are not equal. No one was speaking for Bosnia and so a young boy at the age
of 19 fought back in the only way to get their attention. He fought back against them even if knew

Genetic Engineering And Human Engineering
Genetic engineering is a highly debated topic across the world right now as countries are split for
and against genetically altering crops and livestock. The simple definition for genetic engineering
according to CSIRO is The use of modern biotechnology techniques to change genes of an
organism, such as plant or animal. (CSIRO, 2007)
The techniques or steps to genetic engineering are quite technical. The first stage of genetic
engineering is to isolate the DNA from the organism. Once the DNA strand is separated it is cut
by a restricting enzyme. The restricting enzymes snips the DNA into a smaller code usually
between the G and C nucleotides. The restriction enzyme also leaves a unique sticky substance
on the end of each new strand. The next step is too place the newly cut fragments inside a
plasmid. A plasmid can be defined as A linear or circular double stranded DNA that is capable of
replicating independently of the chromosomal DNA. (Biology Online, 2009) this means in order
for the new strands of DNA to be accepted by the cell it must be fixed inside a plasmid. The same
restricting enzyme is used on the plasmid. This allows the DNA strand and plasmid to stick and
join together. Once joined the phosphodiester bonds are formed by the DNA ligase on either edge
of the strand. Transformation is the next stage as the newly formed plasmids are taken in by the
host bacterial cells. The cells are now a DNA library and can be administered to the required
organism.

Summary Of David Foster Wallace This Is Water
David Foster Wallace s speech This Is Water was spoken to Kenyon s graduating class of 2005.
In the speech he reflects on a unique way to think about yourself, other and the world around
you. I conducted three interviews with people of different ages to see how they conform or
contradict with Wallace s speech. Martha explained how in college she was self centered, In
college it was all about me, me, and me. And what I could get out of stuff, (Martha Arieta). This
relates to Wallace s topic of the natural default setting. Think about it: there is no experience you
have had that you are not the absolute center of. The worldas you experience it is there in front of
YOU or behind YOU, the left or right of YOU, on YOUR TV or YOUR monitor, (Wallace pg.3).

Another similarity is how Peter realized that the most important obvious answers are sometimes
right in front of you but are hard to explain and see. He states As I ve grown up, sometimes the
answers I ve been looking extremely hard for are so simple that you have to think about them in
another way, (Peter Palmer). In the speech Wallace gives an example about two young fish who
run into an older fish, ...[older fish states] Morning boys. How s the water? And the two young
fish swim on a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes What the
hell is water? (Wallace pg. 1). Wallace means to say that education isn t about thinking in general
but about the decision on what to think. Joseph also builds on Wallace s point of being aware of
others. Joseph conveys I think about how other people might be acting and why they do that...

Kubrick And Lynch On The Patriarchy
Kubrick and Lynch on the Patriarchy
Stanley Kubrick s great breadth of work spans over forty eight years, and due to both his
longevity and skill, he has influenced filmmakers from several generations. Kubrick has been
named as a creative influence for a myriad of filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, Woody
Allen, Terry Gilliam, the Coen Brothers and Christopher Nolan [2,3]. Kubrick presents sensitive
events in an unbiased manner, withholding an opinion on the topic. By not offering a resolution or
a stance, he forces viewers to see the evils of man objectively. There is usually no punishment for
the morally corrupt acts, because that offers a more accurate portrayal of reality. Characters often
do not fully develop in Kubrick films, again as if to replicate reality. These unsettling techniques
have left a clear impression on the filmmaker David Lynch. His films often share a sense of
amorality that goes unpunished or unaddressed. Their respective world views are equally cynical,
criticizing traditionalism in society.
Arguably one of the most consistent links between Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch is their
portrayal of women in film. Stanley Kubrick does not choose to emphasize the struggles of being a
woman in a patriarchal society. Instead, he shows women through the patriarchal gaze. In A
Clockwork Orange, women are literally objectified, as plastic statues of naked women are used as
coffee tables in the Korova Milk Bar. This introduces the viewers to the protagonist,

The Collapse Of North Korean State Essay
Assess the possibility of the collapse of the North Korean state in the next 5 7 years by examining
the influence and impact of relevant geopolitical factors/conditions.
As one of the most antagonizing countries, North Korea seems to find the wrath of the United
Nations more frequently than any other sovereign nation. The country s human rights abuses and
violations of international law have led the international community to impose heavy trade
sanctions with North Korea (cite). While the country attempts to be largely self sufficient,
malnutrition is a growing problem for the people of North Korea (worldhunger). Based on its
geographic location and violation of international law in regards to nuclear capabilities and
human rights abuses, North Korea is in a perilous situation in the next seven years. Its increasing
globalization and fervent nationalism suggest, however, that while the country may evolve and
become more globalized, it will survive as the contentious nation state it is today. The physical
geography of North Korea does little to stabilize the 5 to 7 year outlook for the country. Despite
being bordered by two amicable countries to the North, China and Russia, North Korea s southern
border makes its physical geography a potentially destabilizing factor. The Northern border is
largely shared with China, stretching along the Yalu River (Yu). This border is where the majority
of imports come into North Korea, as China is North Korea s largest trading partner

Wal-Mart, the Big Bad Wolf of the Economy
Wal Mart is one of the largest corporations in America today. It serves to millions of consumers a

been the controversy of whether Wal Mart is truly good for the American economy or not. On
one hand people believe Wal Mart is good for the economy because it saves the average
consumer money due to the low priced products. Along with being an easy one stop shop where
everything a person could possibly need is found there. Aside from the low prices and

Health Insurance has been another controversy in the debates of Wal Mart. Wal Mart employees,
especially full time employees should get health care. The opposition to this is that aside from
Starbucks no large employer gives health insurance to part time employees due to high costs of
health care (Is Walmart Bad For The Economy). However compared with other large companies
Wal Mart covers only 43% of employees with health insurance as oppose to the average 66% that
other large companies cover. If Wal Mart were to reach the average coverage rate, they would be
covering an additional 320,000 employees. Wal Mart employees are paid poorly if at all for their
work and are rarely covered with health insurance. The Wal Mart corporation states that 90% of
it s workers have health insurance. In actuality, the 90% who are covered, around 50% of those
are insured because of their spouses employer, who, by the way, may be a union employer. Wal
Mart is an anti union corporation. The first ever unionized Wal Mart was in Quebec, Canada. It
was quickly shut down once is became unionized however, and this is not the only case like this.
Many attempts have been made to change Wal Mart into a union employer, but all attempts have
failed. Wal Mart is often portrayed as the big bad wolf of companies. It s accused of harming
smaller mom and pop businesses. But it is in fact worse then that.

The West African Regional War Essay
The West Africa Regional War
For observers of the West Africa regional war, the recent calm in the war torn Mano River Union
(MRU) states Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea has given rise to optimism. Guarded, as this
optimism might be, the decrease in violence in West Africa during the second half of 2001 is an
important development given the scope and intensity of fighting that gripped these states earlier in
the year. While observers agree that the current absence of widespread violent conflict in the MRU
is a much welcomed development, it must not mask the profound cleavages within these societies,
the tenuous nature of the UN imposed peace in Sierra Leone, and the continued serious threat of
renewed warfare in the region. A brief... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of the 1990s housed over 500,000 refugees housed in hundreds of camps and settlements in
Guinea, one of the largest refugee populations in the world (U.S. Commission for Refugees,

the destabilizing effects on Guinean society of large numbers of Liberian and Sierra Leonean
refugees was profound throughout the 1990s, sustained cross border conflict did not break out
between Guinea and her neighbors until 2000. Cross border attacks into Guinea by Sierra Leone s
Revolutionary United Front (RUF) and various Liberian based rebel groups precipitated a harsh
military response from the Guinean military, which led to thousands of militia and civilian

Of course, fighting in West Africaduring the 1990s was not confined to the MRU states. Serious
bloodshed occurred in Guinea Bissau (1999), the southern Casamance region of Senegal

Broadway Play Compare And Contrast Essay
I watched Broadway Play and Baz Luhrman
The first difference I noticed after watching two scenes was the involvement of audience.
Broadway Play is a recorded film of a live play in which audiences and actors both exist actors
must not only speak their lines to portray and reveal their emotions, but must also speak their lines
in a way the audience can understand it. Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, is a film with a purpose
to emphasize the theme of Romeo and Juliet with its viewers. There are no restrictions in which
actors speak their lines, as long as the main message can be understood by the viewers.
Involvement of audience also can be related to how music is being used in the two scenes. In
Broadway Play, music seems to be used as a transition between dialogues of characters. The scene
first starts off with a lively music, but the sound decreases as Lord Capulet takes control. In Baz
Lurhman, music is used to maximize the emphasis on the love of Romeo and Juliet. An example
would be when Romeo and Juliet are staring at each other, with an aquarium in between. No words
are spoken, but as Romeo and Juliet slowly engage in each other, viewers can easily understand
that the two are in love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Broadway Play, is a live play with a limited space, and so there is also a limit to the usage of
props. Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, has nearly unlimited space, and so the setting feels much
like a party.
Personally, I enjoyed Broadway Play more than Baz Luhrman. I do admit that the settings in Baz
Luhrman feels much more like the settings Shakespeare would ve written in his plays, but there are
so much things going on in a scene in Baz Luhrman and it sometimes can be hard to understand
what the characters are trying to

How Do Polar Bears Affect The Environment
This week, a viral picture of a sickly polar bear is causing debate all over the world about climate
change. Although the issue is not strongly affecting humans just yet, it is influencing wildlife all
over the globe. Polar bears, in particular, have been the focus of concern for various organizations
that are making it their mission to protect the endangered species. Now more than ever, it seems the
polar bearreally needs humans to reconsider the choices being made about the environment.
Polar Bears Starving Because of Climate Change Clapway
Recently, Kerstin Langenberger, a photographer at ArcticDreams, shared one of her portraits of a
severely thin bear on social media. The image, taken in the region of Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean,

When asked about the viral picture, he commented that the reports about thin or dead adult bears
in the Barents Sea region are sadly consistent with what is expected with the warming Arctic. The
region has the highest loss of sea eyes, as the summer ice free period is now twenty weeks longer
than it was in 1979, when records were first documented.
He adds that polar bears aren t the only animals that have altered their usual routines. Walruses
have been seen gathering in Northwest Alaska, bowhead whales are moving between Alaska and
Greenland and killer whales are migrating to the Arctic earlier than expected. Moreover, beluga
whales have been shifting their wintering areas to Greenland, all due to the loss of ice mass.
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Most of these animals need sea ice to give birth, feed or rest. Shifting to land in order to
accomplish theses tasks tremendously affects the biology of many the polar bear specifically, as
noted by Walter Vetter and his team of scientists at the University of Hohenheim. The polar bears
are becoming so thin that their fat reserves have shifted completely in order to concentrate on
nourishing the brain, kidneys and liver. In light of the situation, scientists all over the world are
urgently calling for a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, urging us to think about these animals
and to help in any way that we

The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism
In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human
motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism
and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important,
as any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical
egoism, the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too
greedy and seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea
that people should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too
willing to sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing
would ever be accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop
working to better themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the
moralityof the action should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person
doing the action. All of these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper
will look at each of these three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining
human motives on their own and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better
explain human motives. This paper will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this
thesis by providing some

Ida B Wells-Bennett Summary
Ida B. Wells Barnett dedicated her life to social justice and equality. She devoted her tremendous
energies to building the foundations of African American progress in business, politics, and law.
Wells Barnett was a key participant in the formation of the National Association of Colored
Women as well as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). She
spoke eloquently in support of Marcus Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association.
The legacies of these organizations have been tremendous and her contribution to each was timely
and indespensible. But no cause challenged the courage and integrity of Ida B. Wells Barnett as

The great majority of people lynched between 1882 and 1930 were black. During that period
there were almost 4800 recorded lynchings in the United States. There were many more, no
doubt, but we know about 4800. 3400 victims of this mob justice were black. The period from
1889 to 1893 accounted for the worst years. 579 blacks were lynched as opposed to 260 whites.
That is a ration of 2.2 blacks lynched for every white. This is a significant difference already, but
only part of the story. By the end of the century the racial nature of lynching had revealed itself,
completely and unmistakably. Between 1899 and 1903, 543 people were lynched in the United
States men and women. Of that number only 27 were white. That is a ratio of 22 blacks lynched
for every white.
The numbers make a compelling case, but they do not tell the entire story because by themselves
they reveal nothing of what lynching really involved. It was widely believed that lynching was
spontaneous thing sudden and emotional acts of revenge committed by irrational mobs. But we
know now that lynchings were often planned out in advance, and frequently with the sympathy and
cooperation of local leaders and law enforcement officials. In some cases lynchings were even
advertised. Days before they occurred men would move through neighborhoods and from town to
town, distributing flyers by hand and sometimes printing announcements in newspapers.

The Role Of Democracy In Ancient Greece
The Greeks, despite never being lead by a single leader are known as a single people. This is due
to the culture that was spread across the landmass of Greece being so similar to each other but
yet the individuals are still highly memorable. Even someone who has not heard of Socrates, the
Persian Wars, or Sparta can recognize things that were heavily inspired by the Greeks. In which I
believe the political system of democracy, the taking down of history, and way that battles in war
occur are the most prominent. In this paper, I will be attempting to cover these ideals in great detail
in an attempt to educate you over this rather mythical topic.

The first historian was a Greek man known as Herodotus, whoВґs legacy only grew larger as time
grew on. Without history, then humanity would be bound to repeat the grave mistakes of the
past. This could range from swimming in a ocean during a lightning storm to something that
could be rather dangerous, such as going to war at a whim. The latter was rather common seen
in the later eras of ancient Greece, between the city states of Sparta and Athens. To have
something like this occurring in today s world between countries such as America and Russia
would have highly negative side effects. As it would greatly decrease the number of human
beings or even living beings alive, if not fully destroying the planet due to nuclear weapons being
used. Technology certainly has improved since the time of the Greeks, but luckily the majority of
humanity has learned that killing off someone just because of a patch of farmland was far from
the best thing to do. Even things such as technology is affected by history. As without it, we
would have to reinvent something every time after the person who originally created it died. The
recording of history that was originally started by the greeks is important because it links us to
those who lived in the past. Which made our lives essentially better than those who came before us.

Preface
The Impact of Information Technology on the Workforce of the Future
To determine the impact of information technology on the workforce of the future, I conducted a
study using an historical perspective on the use of information technology in the workplace and by
the workforce.
This study also considered recent trends in workforce management such as telecommuting,
globalization, outsourcing, and off shoring activities. The results of this study revealed that
technological advances in office equipment over the past thirty years have enabled organizations to
improve operating efficiencies, improve communications, reduce costs, increase their global
presence, and gain competitive advantage through the implementation of information ... Show more

Computers loaded with word processing, spreadsheet analysis and presentation software programs
have become standard fixtures on each employee s desk. Some of the workforce became mobile,
conducting business outside of the traditional office settings through the use of Personal Digital
Assistants (PDAs), cellular phones and laptop computers. The initial users of mobile technology
were salespeople and executive management; however, easier access to the Internet allowed more
employees to become telecommuters, who conducted work related activities either from their
homes or from some other remote location.
Technological advances in electronic communication may continue to decrease the need for
traditional office setting while increasing the number of telecommuters. Electronic capabilities will
also continue to affect outsourcing, off shoring and globalization efforts by many organizations.
Collaboration technologies, currently being enhanced by Microsoft and IBM, may enable
companies to conduct virtual meetings in the near future. In a virtual meeting, employees from
remote locations conduct real time meetings from their own computers using peer to peer software.
Participants can see one another on computer screens, share computer space and make changes to
product designs or contract documents via a virtual whiteboard.

How Liquidity Is Linked With Price Momentum
The problem this study attempts to solve is to investigate how liquidity is linked with price
momentum in the emerging markets. This descriptive research aims at estimating the price
momentum of the stocks in the selected emerging countries considering the liquidity dimensions.
To fulfil the research purpose, the following researchquestions will be tested.
Q1. What is the relationship between relative bid ask spread dimension of liquidity and price
momentum in emerging markets?
Q2. What is the relationship between volatility dimension of liquidity and price momentum in
emerging markets?
Q3. What is the relationship between turnover dimension of liquidity and price momentum in
emerging markets?
Q4. What is the relationship between volume dimension of liquidity and price momentum in
emerging markets?
Answers to the research questions will clarify whether the dimensions of liquidity predict abnormal
profits from momentum strategies in emerging countries. The questions attempt to establish a
relationship, if any, between the dimensions of liquidity and price momentum. Each of the liquidity
dimensions is expected to be negatively correlated with momentum profits. Less liquid stocks
should yield higher returns, as the investors expect to be compensated for taking risks of not being
able to sell stocks quickly.
This study will apply the quantitative research method, rather than the qualitative method for
various reasons. First, the research problem of identifying the

Problem Of Gun Crime
The major problems with gun crime occur because lots of guns are illegally resold. The Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms study recently claimed that half of all gun seized from young
criminals were purchased legally by straw buyers and then resold. This suggests that the
problematic direct buyers are mostly not criminals but straw buyers. With this fact, minimizing or
limiting resell firearmsbusiness is the main goal to deal with this strategy.
To minimize or limit any resell gun business, one of the best way is to put strict liability on resell
gun business. Since the government regulations and laws have worked well to prevent the direct
sale between the firm and criminal, the additional rule over first hand buyer can only be better.

Expectations of a First Line Supervisor in a Law Enforcement Agency

Supervision in the Criminal Justice Field
Professor Chavez
May 15, 2013
Abstract
The first line supervisor in law enforcement is commonly referred to as a Sergeant. These positions
are of great importance to a law enforcement agency. There are many pros and cons to becoming a
first line supervisor. These positions are tasked with the expectation of maintaining a level of
balance within the patrol ranks, as well as remaining fair and impartial among those ranks. There
are also many expectations of subordinates. In order for both parties to meet these expectations
requires a close working relationship.
The first line supervisor in a law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A supervisor must remain approachable from their subordinates. With this approachability and
accessibility the supervisor will be successful in building a better working relationship. The
difficulty with some supervisors is the ability to draw the line between having a personal
relationship with their subordinates and a professional relationship. With a close working
relationship a supervisor should be able to confront the subordinate and be able to resolve the issue.
The resolution may range from simply counseling the subordinate, all the way up to possible
disciplinary action.
Approximately 25 percent of all law enforcement disciplinary action is due to drug use. (More
amp; Miller, 2007) Supervisors must remain vigilant on possible drug use. Many supervisors are
unwilling to discipline their subordinates, which could ultimately lead to their downfall. When
disciplinary action is necessary it is the responsibility of the supervisor to remain fair and impartial.
When initiating disciplinary action the supervisor must put aside any personal feelings toward the
subordinate, and act solely on a professional level. They must act in the best interest of the
subordinate and the department as a whole. It is important that when the disciplinary action is
necessary it is done in a constructive manner. When the disciplinary action is constructive it allows
the subordinate to accept their mistakes, and learn

Literary Analysis Of Sammy s Essay
Additionally, Sammy spoke of his friend and coworker Stokesie, who was only three years older
than him, as if he was just wasting away because he was already married with two kids. He even
assumes that Stokesie will conform to working there for the rest of his life and become manager
several decades later, in 1990. English professor at Hawaii State University, Catherine Sustana,
wrote a literary analysis that explains Sammy s reaction to Queenie as, Sammy obviously finds
the girls physically alluring, but he s also attracted by their rebellion. He doesn t want to be like
the sheep he makes such fun of, the customers who are befuddled when the girls enter the store
(Sustana). Later, Sammy decides to stick up for the girls after his boss, Lengel, comes down a
little hard on them for making a scene at the store. Sammy ends up quitting his job on the spot
for two reasons; he wanted to make a heroic gesture in favor of the girls and he did not want to be
like the sheep. Even though he made such a huge leap to not be a conformist and follow the sheep,
he seems to have some amount of understanding because he expresses that he is apologetic to his
family and that this would end up making his life harder.
The tone of a story could easily be labeled as the most important element, since it is sets the mood
for the story. The author uses tone to describe the mood towards the stories characters and
surroundings. Tone is not expressed directly, instead it is created by using words that depict certain
meanings or make the reader feel a specific way. For example, dark colors are said to be associated
with negative moods, while lighter colors seem happy and peaceful. In this story, Updike uses an
informal and bitterly sarcastic tone to demonstrate Sammy s resistance to conformity through word
choice and language. Throughout the story, Sammy is consistently showing his difficulty in
accepting that adults conform to the norms.
Updike creates the tone by having the story seem like Sammy was telling it to a really close
friend. For example, Sammy says, Still with that prim look she lifts a folded dollar bill out of the
hollow at the center of her nubbled pink top. The jar went heavy in my hand. Really, I thought that

In The Mood For Love Essay
What is the ultimate form of a tragic love? For Wong, it is neither denial nor acceptance, but an
eternal state of longing and waiting. Among Wong Kar Wei s internationally acclaimed
productions, Days of Being Wilde (1990), In the Mood for Love (2000), and 2046 (2004) are
loosely counted as a trilogy of love. In the end chapter of his trilogy 2046, Wong continues to focus
on Chou Mu Yun, a sentimental yet callous writer and womanizer. Revolving around the affairs of
Chou, 2046 presents to its audience three pathways that love could possibly offer: to unite in
happiness, to move on after the denial from the loved one, and to linger upon the unanswered love
in perpetuity. Chou is undoubtedly chosen to be the bearer of the last pathway. As the... Show more

Mazierska discusses the overarching theme trapped in presence in Wong Kar Wei s movie as
postmodern implication that correlates to Wong s addicted uses of montage and symbolism in
narration and editing (p8, Mazierska). As he considers, Wong s works share the similarity with
several postmodern authors. The notion of alternative temporalities is central to the narrative
organization to postmodern novels, such as those of Italo Calvino and Alain Robber Grillet.
(p17, Mazierska and Rascaroli). James Udden also argues in the Stubborn Persistence of Local In
Wong Kar wai that Wong s popularity is credited to his typically post modern philosophy of
denying his Hong Kong identity and embracing it at the same time (finnayson, p143). In some
more relevant cases, Flannery Wilson discusses Wong s overlapping narration between presence
and future in 2046 as the manifestation of Deleuze s theory of crystal of time, vaguely alluding to
the notion that virtual and the real intermingles in 2046 (p164, Finnayson). Brunette also postulates
that the sense of resisting the advancement of time correlates to what the Fredric Jameson terms as
longing for the present. (Teo, p358) Although it is evident that every production of Wong concerns
the subject of love, few theorists have been found so far who posit Wong s interpretation of love in
a post modernistic framework. The one who got closest to this

The Greatest Day Of My Life
Everyone needs some form of escape from reality. While this varies from person to person, with
the entertainment business booming, it is safe to infer that many find their comfort with movie
theatres. Many of these people like to be engulfed by the story of their movie. My escape,
however, comes from just being inside the theatre. There is something magical about theatres
that keeps bringing me back. The first time I vividly remember going to the movies was when
the second Harry Potter movie released. I finally watched the first movie on our brand new
DVD player and read the four books that had been released. When the Saturday came to go to
the Edwards in Irvine, I woke up extra early to make terrible pancakes for everybody (this is also
a time when I wanted to be a chef). I begged my parents to take to me to the nearby 7 11 to buy
all the candy that we were going to sneak in the theatre. I knew that this was going to be the
greatest day of my life. While I know now my parents were reluctant to spend all that money, I
know that today they would not change a thing. Going to the movies in the early 2000 s for my
family meant more than just watching a movie. With my mother working two jobs and my
father deploying every other year to different parts of the world as a Marine, these Saturdays were a
very rare occasion. Not only do I get to watch a movie, I get to spend a whole day with my family
hopping from movie to movie. There were no fights, no problems, and no worries.

Arundel Case Essay
Case 3: Arundel Partners
1. Arundel has an interesting idea to buy rights to movie sequels. Their theory is that they can
make a profit by securing sequel rights and providing seed capital to films even before production
starts, thus avoiding the asymmetric information problem that would arise as the film progresses and
the studio gains more and more inside information about the film s prospects. Buying rights in
advance allows Arundel to buy rights to the sequels of eventually successful movies much more
cheaply than after their success is proved, and also eliminates any potential bidding wars that may
arise for sequel rights to successful films. Furthermore, securing a (relatively) inexpensive option to
potentially tremendously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The DCF yields an average NPV of $2.41 million (please see Exhibit 1). Clearly this approach
points to an unfavorable outcome for Arundel s investment. However, this approach assumes static
information and the absence of an option to choose only good projects.
The options valuation approach reveals a much different result. Using the values Rf=6%, a 3 year
time to maturity, and an estimated standard deviation of 50%, we get an NPV of $3.23 million on
average per film. Even taking into account potential changes in the standard deviation we get a
range of $2.27 $4.16 million with standard deviation from 40 60%. See Exhibit 2 for calculations.
3. In the event of a hugely successful movie, the studio may want more compensation for the sequel
than agreed. Also, studios might potentially seek additional money from Arundel in the event of
cost overruns during the making of an initial film. In light of this, we would recommend that
Arundel take the following actions in formulating its contracts:
В•In case of cost escalations, they are not responsible for overruns and have a right to refuse the
share of additional cost
В•Negotiate a clause where they can back out of the sequel rights or sell the sequel rights to some
other investor
В•Arundel Partners needs to negotiate that the script leaves room open for a sequel
В•If the movie does not get made, Arundel gets back the sequel option money for the movie

Bem s Biological Influence On Homosexuality
Social psychologist Darryl Bem theorizes that biology has an indirect influence on sexual
preference. Mr. Bem believes that biology effects emotions and behavior in young children.
Therefore helping influence the individuals sexuality latter on in life. I strongly believe in his idea
of developmental sexuality because it supports the idea that the same causal forces drive both
heterosexuality, and homosexuality. As well as that heterosexuality does not fragment from
homosexuality but that sexual preference is developed by an individual s personal life experience,
and biology. Bems theory of homosexuality is as follows. Children who engage in abnormal Вќ

Chance The Rapper Breaks Barriers In Mr. Happy
Chance the Rapper Breaks Barriers in Mr. Happy With the recent advent of the deep web (where
it has become possible for anyone with enough pocket change and internet savvy to get their
hands on just about anything illegal or immoral), it should come as no surprise the concept of a
website that offers up assisted suicides to those desperate and world weary enough to pay up. In
Colin Tilley s gloomy fictional short Mr. Happy, Chance the Rapper plays the role of one of
these websites newest customers, and soon finds he signed up for more than he maybe
bargained for. The moment I saw Chicago based Chance the Rapper was the leading man for
this film, I knew Mr. Happy was something I needed to see. Aside from being a fan of his music, I
was also deeply curious about his acting chops: would Chance s undeniable talent as a musician
translate over into the world of short film? The answer... an overwhelming yes so much so that I

the most unconventional type of way. Chance diverges from how a typical show stealer behaves in

particular method of underacting with its glossy eyed delivery and vacuous, nearly inaudible
dialogue is almost to the point of fault. There is, in truth, little character development or range
displayed by Chance throughout Mr. Happy, besides his default mode of glum silence. But that, as

Steroids In Bigger, Stronger, Faster Summary
Bigger, Stronger, Faster was such a very interesting documentary about director Christopher Bell
getting answers on the issue on the use of steroids today. Mr. Bell had personal stories about
himself and his 2 brothers Mark Bell Smelly and Mike Bell Mad Dog with the constant use of
taking anabolic steroids. He admitted he felt guilty about taking one injection of steroids so he
discontinued taking them, as for his brothers he interviewed both of them getting their point of
view on anabolic steroids and their constant use of drug. Mad Dog had the dream of becoming a
professional wresting star with one of the big time wrestling company WWE, and he did all that he
could to reach that goal even by taking steroids to gain that extra edge.... Show more content on

go to the state round my coach pulls me to the side to give me a short talk. He said Son you are
going up against some of the best powerlifters in the state and I personally think you will not be

my coaches offer. I feel anabolic steroids are the wrong way to go, and I will not cheat my way
in life. If I were to succeed in my state meet then I will prove my doubters wrong. If I were to lose

Johann Goethe Research Paper
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Human nature is perhaps one of the most familiar and
simultaneously baffling things known to man. A writer who dared to explore the complications of
humanity and, even more admirably, managed to make some sense of them was Johann Wolfgang
von Goethe. His literary talent and combination of romantic and classical writings brought him
fame and success during his lifetime. After having written The Sorrows of Young Werther he was
even noticed by the Duke of Weimar and made an adviser in his court (Columbia Electronic).
College educated Goethe contributed greatly to the shifting of literary movements underway in his
time by creating his famous introspective narratives. Johann Wolfgang von Goethewas born in

He was buried beside Schiller in Weimar (Vivian). Johann Wolfgang von Goethe accomplished
much during his lifetime. His plays and poetry set the bar high for those that came after him. He
had a heavy influence on writers Heinrich Heine, Eduard Mörike, Friedrich Hölderlin, Hugo
von Hofmannsthal, Stefan George, and Rainer Maria Rilke. Goethe is one of the few writers who
truly explored the spirit of man, and he will be remembered for generations to come (Bangerter).
Goethe is famous for his philosophical, thought provoking writing and the impact he had on
modern literature. He was well educated and lived a full life. His books were wildly successful
and he was a well respected public figure. Goethe s use of romanticism and classicism has inspired

Essay On Censorship In Schools
Today s society is and always has been a struggle for freedom. America fought in the revolutionary
war against Great Britain to enhance the freedom of Americans. Censorships in libraries are an
invasion of a citizen s rights. Throughout history there are an extreme amount of examples of the
rights of Americans being invaded and abolished. The first amendment, moral agency, and religious
beliefs are all the ultimate reasons that censorships in libraries should not be aloud or legal.
The first amendments foundation is based upon freedom of speech and press. James Madison, or the
father of the constitution, fought hard to get the constitution ratified. These actions began the Bill
of Rights. Within the Bill of Rights there are amendments, which ... Show more content on

From the time children are very young they are taught by their parents or their guardians the
difference between right and wrong. If, for example a child is in the library and come across a
book or movie with inappropriate behavior or situations they have the ability to read and find out
for themselves whether or not they should be reading or watching that particular product. The
conscience in all of us should help to tell whether or not the material is appropriate. These decisions
should not be based on the government or anyone else besides themselves.
Religion will always be a controversial thought in the American society. The separation of school
and state has been in place since the early 1900s and it is inevitable that this law will always be in
place. Different religions believe different things about the types of things a person can view.
Again these types of decisions should not be made by the government. They should be made the
conscience of the person or their religious beliefs.
Truly, censorships in libraries should not be legal or aloud. There are endless reasons as to why
the public should be able to choose what kind of things they choose to listen to, watch, and read.
Although, all the tools and abilities to remove these types of materials are the available to remove
inappropriate books and movies from libraries it should not be legal because of the first

How Literacy Affected My Life
How has literacy impacted my life? From learning to read sight words and write sentences to
progressing all the way to thick chapter books and lengthy essays, literacy has been a long and
incredibly significant journey in my life. Literacy has been a fantastic and influential adventure
because of exciting personal experiences that first took root at age two, the inspiration of an
elementary school teacher, Mrs. Peake, and memorable events including the Accelerated Reader
program and discovering my favorite childhood book series. My literacy narrative first unfolded
in the playroom of my childhood home when I was an inquisitive two year old. My parents would

Jones. Throughout my elementary school years, I became particularly involved in the Accelerated
Reader program offered at my school where students were able to earn points by reading books. Not
to mention, students that had high amounts of points were eligible to earn prizes, which of
course caught my attention. This program gave me a greater appreciation for literacy, motivated
me to read constantly, and quite frankly, brought out my competitive side. In the same way,
another event that molded my literacy experience, was when the Junie B. Jones book series was
placed into my hands because it quickly became my favorite childhood series. As I read the
series, I constantly found myself spontaneously laughing out loud as I read because of the
hilarity of the carefree character, Junie B. Jones. This series marked an enormous milestone in
my literacy adventure because it was not only my favorite childhood series, but it was actually the
first series I ever read and led to me discovering numerous other series that I still revel in today.
Overall, these events have been key to forming the entirety of my literacy

Democratic Ideals Shaped America And The Pursuit Of Happiness
In baseball, Democracy shines its clearest. They only race that matters is the race to the the bag.

American society still functions with these Common Ideals. Life, liberty and the Pursuit of

Patriotism are all part of the Democratic ideals. If the United states did not have these ideas our
country would not be a country. There are seven words that pop into individuals head when you

That as americans we have a privilege to live without apprehension of damage or being murdered
by our kindred men. Most of the population of individuals have the privilege to live. Appears to be
sufficiently simple however there are still various nations around the globe where this fundamental
right is not the situation. In the United States it s the number one obligation to ensure the lives and
security of its own natives. In the second passage of the Declaration, We hold these truths to be self

  • 2. The Disney Princess In Disney Disney princesses have always been seen in the public eye as dependent on their prince charming. When thinking about the very first princesses Disney put on the screen, such as Snow white, Cinderella, sleeping beauty and so on, they have never been thought of as very strong or independent women. In most of the early Disney princess movies, the underlying theme is that the princess is always in search of or waiting to be rescued by the male character. With, this is one of the most prominent reasons why Orenstein did not want her daughter listening to the snow white tale. She did not want to expose her daughter to thinking that the traits or characteristics that the princesses display were how women should act or be represented. Orenstein had several reservations when it came to her daughter learning about snow white and the other Disney princess. In the text, it talked about when her daughter was on the floor laying down waiting for her prince to come and give her the kiss that would save her. This was one of the reasons Orenstein didn t choose to tell her about show white, she thought that her daughter did not need to wait on any male figure to come save her and that she could be her own savor. Snow white, as many of the other princesses, depended on their prince to come save them. For example, when she ate the apple, she was to wait for the prince to wake her up from her dream instead of depending herself. Another reason why she did not want to expose her daughter to ... Even though our dependence on electricity is enormous, it is still easy to forget just how dependent we are on electricity. When it comes to transportation, electricity will someday rewrite the history books. One of the most important issues in the future of transportation is to decrease emissions. However, magnetic levitation trains are as far removed from the old stream engines of the Union Pacific as the space shuttle is from the Wright brothers experimental airplane. • 15. Genetic Engineering And Human Engineering Genetic engineering is a highly debated topic across the world right now as countries are split for and against genetically altering crops and livestock. The simple definition for genetic engineering according to CSIRO is The use of modern biotechnology techniques to change genes of an organism, such as plant or animal. (CSIRO, 2007) The techniques or steps to genetic engineering are quite technical. The first stage of genetic engineering is to isolate the DNA from the organism. Once the DNA strand is separated it is cut by a restricting enzyme. The restricting enzymes snips the DNA into a smaller code usually between the G and C nucleotides. The restriction enzyme also leaves a unique sticky substance on the end of each new strand. The next step is too place the newly cut fragments inside a plasmid. A plasmid can be defined as A linear or circular double stranded DNA that is capable of replicating independently of the chromosomal DNA. (Biology Online, 2009) this means in order for the new strands of DNA to be accepted by the cell it must be fixed inside a plasmid. The same restricting enzyme is used on the plasmid. This allows the DNA strand and plasmid to stick and join together. Once joined the phosphodiester bonds are formed by the DNA ligase on either edge of the strand. Transformation is the next stage as the newly formed plasmids are taken in by the host bacterial cells. The cells are now a DNA library and can be administered to the required organism. In a ... • 17. Kubrick And Lynch On The Patriarchy Kubrick and Lynch on the Patriarchy Stanley Kubrick s great breadth of work spans over forty eight years, and due to both his longevity and skill, he has influenced filmmakers from several generations. Kubrick has been named as a creative influence for a myriad of filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Terry Gilliam, the Coen Brothers and Christopher Nolan [2,3]. Kubrick presents sensitive events in an unbiased manner, withholding an opinion on the topic. By not offering a resolution or a stance, he forces viewers to see the evils of man objectively. There is usually no punishment for the morally corrupt acts, because that offers a more accurate portrayal of reality. Characters often do not fully develop in Kubrick films, again as if to replicate reality. These unsettling techniques have left a clear impression on the filmmaker David Lynch. His films often share a sense of amorality that goes unpunished or unaddressed. Their respective world views are equally cynical, criticizing traditionalism in society. Arguably one of the most consistent links between Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch is their portrayal of women in film. Stanley Kubrick does not choose to emphasize the struggles of being a woman in a patriarchal society. Instead, he shows women through the patriarchal gaze. In A Clockwork Orange, women are literally objectified, as plastic statues of naked women are used as coffee tables in the Korova Milk Bar. This introduces the viewers to the protagonist, ... The Collapse Of North Korean State Essay Assess the possibility of the collapse of the North Korean state in the next 5 7 years by examining the influence and impact of relevant geopolitical factors/conditions. As one of the most antagonizing countries, North Korea seems to find the wrath of the United Nations more frequently than any other sovereign nation. The country s human rights abuses and violations of international law have led the international community to impose heavy trade sanctions with North Korea (cite). While the country attempts to be largely self sufficient, malnutrition is a growing problem for the people of North Korea (worldhunger). Based on its geographic location and violation of international law in regards to nuclear capabilities and human rights abuses, North Korea is in a perilous situation in the next seven years. Its increasing globalization and fervent nationalism suggest, however, that while the country may evolve and become more globalized, it will survive as the contentious nation state it is today. The physical geography of North Korea does little to stabilize the 5 to 7 year outlook for the country. Despite being bordered by two amicable countries to the North, China and Russia, North Korea s southern border makes its physical geography a potentially destabilizing factor. Broadway Play is a recorded film of a live play in which audiences and actors both exist actors must not only speak their lines to portray and reveal their emotions, but must also speak their lines in a way the audience can understand it. Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, is a film with a purpose to emphasize the theme of Romeo and Juliet with its viewers. There are no restrictions in which actors speak their lines, as long as the main message can be understood by the viewers. Involvement of audience also can be related to how music is being used in the two scenes. In Broadway Play, music seems to be used as a transition between dialogues of characters. The scene first starts off with a lively music, but the sound decreases as Lord Capulet takes control. In Baz Lurhman, music is used to maximize the emphasis on the love of Romeo and Juliet. • 23. The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important, as any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical egoism, the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too greedy and seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea that people should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too willing to sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing would ever be accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop working to better themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the moralityof the action should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person doing the action. All of these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper will look at each of these three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining human motives on their own and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better explain human motives. This paper will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this thesis by providing some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She devoted her tremendous energies to building the foundations of African American progress in business, politics, and law. She spoke eloquently in support of Marcus Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association. There were many more, no doubt, but we know about 4800. 3400 victims of this mob justice were black. The period from 1889 to 1893 accounted for the worst years. 579 blacks were lynched as opposed to 260 whites. That is a ration of 2.2 blacks lynched for every white. This is a significant difference already, but only part of the story. By the end of the century the racial nature of lynching had revealed itself, completely and unmistakably. Between 1899 and 1903, 543 people were lynched in the United States men and women. Of that number only 27 were white. That is a ratio of 22 blacks lynched for every white. The numbers make a compelling case, but they do not tell the entire story because by themselves they reveal nothing of what lynching really involved. It was widely believed that lynching was spontaneous thing sudden and emotional acts of revenge committed by irrational mobs. But we know now that lynchings were often planned out in advance, and frequently with the sympathy and cooperation of local leaders and law enforcement officials. In some cases lynchings were even advertised. Days before they occurred men would move through neighborhoods and from town to town, distributing flyers by hand and sometimes printing announcements in newspapers. Transportation might be ... The first historian was a Greek man known as Herodotus, whoВґs legacy only grew larger as time grew on. Without history, then humanity would be bound to repeat the grave mistakes of the past. This could range from swimming in a ocean during a lightning storm to something that could be rather dangerous, such as going to war at a whim. The latter was rather common seen in the later eras of ancient Greece, between the city states of Sparta and Athens. To have something like this occurring in today s world between countries such as America and Russia would have highly negative side effects. As it would greatly decrease the number of human beings or even living beings alive, if not fully destroying the planet due to nuclear weapons being used. Technology certainly has improved since the time of the Greeks, but luckily the majority of humanity has learned that killing off someone just because of a patch of farmland was far from the best thing to do. Even things such as technology is affected by history. As without it, we would have to reinvent something every time after the person who originally created it died. The recording of history that was originally started by the greeks is important because it links us to those who lived in the past. The difficulty with some supervisors is the ability to draw the line between having a personal relationship with their subordinates and a professional relationship. The resolution may range from simply counseling the subordinate, all the way up to possible disciplinary action. • 38. Literary Analysis Of Sammy s Essay Additionally, Sammy spoke of his friend and coworker Stokesie, who was only three years older than him, as if he was just wasting away because he was already married with two kids. He even assumes that Stokesie will conform to working there for the rest of his life and become manager several decades later, in 1990. English professor at Hawaii State University, Catherine Sustana, wrote a literary analysis that explains Sammy s reaction to Queenie as, Sammy obviously finds the girls physically alluring, but he s also attracted by their rebellion. He doesn t want to be like the sheep he makes such fun of, the customers who are befuddled when the girls enter the store (Sustana). Later, Sammy decides to stick up for the girls after his boss, Lengel, comes down a little hard on them for making a scene at the store. Sammy ends up quitting his job on the spot for two reasons; he wanted to make a heroic gesture in favor of the girls and he did not want to be like the sheep. Even though he made such a huge leap to not be a conformist and follow the sheep, he seems to have some amount of understanding because he expresses that he is apologetic to his family and that this would end up making his life harder. The tone of a story could easily be labeled as the most important element, since it is sets the mood for the story. The author uses tone to describe the mood towards the stories characters and surroundings. Tone is not expressed directly, instead it is created by using words that depict certain meanings or make the reader feel a specific way. For example, dark colors are said to be associated with negative moods, while lighter colors seem happy and peaceful. In this story, Updike uses an informal and bitterly sarcastic tone to demonstrate Sammy s resistance to conformity through word choice and language. Throughout the story, Sammy is consistently showing his difficulty in accepting that adults conform to the norms. Updike creates the tone by having the story seem like Sammy was telling it to a really close friend. Revolving around the affairs of Chou, 2046 presents to its audience three pathways that love could possibly offer: to unite in happiness, to move on after the denial from the loved one, and to linger upon the unanswered love in perpetuity. Mazierska discusses the overarching theme trapped in presence in Wong Kar Wei s movie as postmodern implication that correlates to Wong s addicted uses of montage and symbolism in narration and editing (p8, Mazierska). As he considers, Wong s works share the similarity with several postmodern authors. The notion of alternative temporalities is central to the narrative organization to postmodern novels, such as those of Italo Calvino and Alain Robber Grillet. (p17, Mazierska and Rascaroli). James Udden also argues in the Stubborn Persistence of Local In Wong Kar wai that Wong s popularity is credited to his typically post modern philosophy of denying his Hong Kong identity and embracing it at the same time (finnayson, p143). In some more relevant cases, Flannery Wilson discusses Wong s overlapping narration between presence and future in 2046 as the manifestation of Deleuze s theory of crystal of time, vaguely alluding to the notion that virtual and the real intermingles in 2046 (p164, Finnayson). Brunette also postulates that the sense of resisting the advancement of time correlates to what the Fredric Jameson terms as longing for the present. In Colin Tilley s gloomy fictional short Mr. Happy, Chance the Rapper plays the role of one of these websites newest customers, and soon finds he signed up for more than he maybe bargained for. The moment I saw Chicago based Chance the Rapper was the leading man for this film, I knew Mr. Happy was something I needed to see. Aside from being a fan of his music, I was also deeply curious about his acting chops: would Chance s undeniable talent as a musician translate over into the world of short film? The answer... an overwhelming yes so much so that I m beginning to doubt I ll ever be able to fully shake his hopeless performance out of my head. Mr. Happy Short Film... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Happy. His role as Victor, a lonely and broken office warehouse employee, is utterly engrossing in the most unconventional type of way. Chance diverges from how a typical show stealer behaves in a film: he withdraws into himself at every given moment instead of striving to protrude out. This particular method of underacting with its glossy eyed delivery and vacuous, nearly inaudible dialogue is almost to the point of fault. There is, in truth, little character development or range displayed by Chance throughout Mr. Happy, besides his default mode of glum silence. But that, as I m sure Tilley intended, is exactly the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I used to compete in high school powerlifting, and was the best at what I did. I would train day after day to impress my coaches as well as myself so I could be ready for the weekend in which I had to compete against rival schools. Three weeks before my last powerlifting meet to qualify to go to the state round my coach pulls me to the side to give me a short talk. He said Son you are going up against some of the best powerlifters in the state and I personally think you will not be ready, so I want to give you this for help. He handed me a box and in it contained syringes and anabolic steroids so I can inject myself. Personally I thought that was a terrible idea to have to train all day and night so I will be ready to compete then have my coach tell me to cheat, I declined my coaches offer. I feel anabolic steroids are the wrong way to go, and I will not cheat my way in life. If I were to succeed in my state meet then I will prove my doubters wrong. If I were to lose then I will still keep my head up high cause I knew I didn t fallback to taking steroids and cheating. From this memory that I went through I have learned a lot about the use of steroids, that is why I am against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. How Literacy Affected My Life How has literacy impacted my life? From learning to read sight words and write sentences to progressing all the way to thick chapter books and lengthy essays, literacy has been a long and incredibly significant journey in my life. Literacy has been a fantastic and influential adventure because of exciting personal experiences that first took root at age two, the inspiration of an elementary school teacher, Mrs. Peake, and memorable events including the Accelerated Reader program and discovering my favorite childhood book series. My literacy narrative first unfolded in the playroom of my childhood home when I was an inquisitive two year old. My parents would sit down with me on the carpet and patiently teach me sight words. Throughout my elementary school years, I became particularly involved in the Accelerated Reader program offered at my school where students were able to earn points by reading books. Not to mention, students that had high amounts of points were eligible to earn prizes, which of course caught my attention. This program gave me a greater appreciation for literacy, motivated me to read constantly, and quite frankly, brought out my competitive side. In the same way, another event that molded my literacy experience, was when the Junie B. Jones book series was placed into my hands because it quickly became my favorite childhood series. As I read the series, I constantly found myself spontaneously laughing out loud as I read because of the hilarity of the carefree character, Junie B. Jones. This series marked an enormous milestone in my literacy adventure because it was not only my favorite childhood series, but it was actually the first series I ever read and led to me discovering numerous other series that I still revel in today. Overall, these events have been key to forming the entirety of my literacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
