Why The Arts Is Not The Spotlight
Why the Arts Deserve the Spotlight In recent years, the debate of art programs in schools have
become more prominent. Many people argue that developing the arts is not only a waste of time, but
money. However, the arts programs are more than just painting for an hour at school. Programs like
band, drama, and art have been neglected in public schools for too long, they can represent schools
just as well as any sport, and they have the ability to create a better rounded and safer society. Being a
part of all three of these programs throughout high school has provided me with first hand experience
of the problems and disrespect they face.
The neglect of arts programs have had drastic impact on our school. While sports are encouraged from
an early age and have budgets large enough to cover their equipment and multiple coaches, two of the
three feeder schools for East Ridge don t even have a band program. The one feeder school fortuitous
enough to have band only has it for sixth through eighth grade students. The band director is not only
directing the middle school s band in the morning, she also directs East Ridge s band in the afternoon.
Between four local schools, she is the only music teacher. Another section of the Arts that has been
neglected for years is Drama. Only available through an elective at school, Drama has no budget from
the school and has struggled to stay afloat through concession and kind donations from local people.

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Leverage...
Banks typically need equity and need to make debts to fund loans and other operations. A bank s
indebtedness is primarily composed by deposits, borrowings owed to other banks, and bonds released
by the bank itself in the capital market. On the other hand a bank s equity is determined by subtracting
the amount of a bank s liabilities from the amount of its assets; for a bank, equity largely coincides
with capital. Regulation of bank capital is necessary in modern economy because without it a bank
could potentially hold very modest capital and in case of losses become insolvent and unable to repay
its creditors, including savers and deposit holders. Capital serves as a cushion that should allow banks
to withstand even substantial losses without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rule merely imposes a minimum proportion of assets (or a maximum proportion of debt) to equity,
but those assets are not supposed to meet any specific requirements, especially in regard to their
riskiness, so a bank s capital, in a system which uses the leverage ratio alone, could potentially consist
solely of very high risk assets. This can lead to a shift of the entire banking system towards riskier and
riskier operations, due to the fact that, because the gearing ratio imposes an higher level of capital than
that, that will be hold without regulation, and this is undesirable from the perspective of a bank, since
it reduces its total amount of resources that can be invested for profit, a bank would be naturally
induced to invest its remaining resources in high risk assets which usually promise an higher return of
profit compared to low risk assets. Such results would be obviously counterproductive, considering
that the intention of assuring a shelter from insolvency would be completely defeated in the case that
the high risk assets would prove to be worth less than expected. In extreme scenarios the situation
could be worse than the absence of regulation, if the existence of rules imposing leverage ratios were
to induce a general sense among the public of soundness of the banking system, that may prove to be
misplaced in the case that the solvency of the banks is

The Grapes Of Wrath Ma Joad Character Analysis
Ma Joad: The Uniting Force
During a time of crisis, a person reveals their true colors. The weak are divided from the strong and
the leaders are divided from the followers. These leaders are the glue that keeps families and
communities united. In John Steinbeck s novel The Grapes of Wrath, Ma Joad surfaces as a forceful
and selfless authority figure that unites the family as a result of a crisis.
Ma, like all leaders, must be forceful in order to meet their objectives. Several circumstances occur in
which Ma must be a forceful or suffer the consequences of a divided family. Her forceful leadership is
illustrated when the family, without Ma s consent, decides to leave Tom and Casey behind to fix the
Wilson s car. Ma refuses to continue unless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

her kin: And since Old Tom and the children could not know hurt or fear unless she acknowledged
hurt and fear, she had practiced denying them in herself (74). Instead of indulging herself in normal
feelings, she restrained herself in order to shield her family from pain and hardship. Another time Ma s
benevolence shines through is when she does not tell her family about her mother s passing until they
cross state lines. Ma explains her decision to the family by saying, I was afraid we wouldn get acrost. I
tol Granma we couldn he p her. The fambly had ta get acrost (228). This tough decision is made in
order to help the family find prosperity in California. In conventional circumstances, a daughter would
never try to cover up the death of a loved one. However, in this unconventional circumstance, Ma
must conceal her own mother s death in order to get the Joads a better life. In addition, Ma makes
another selfless decision after Ruthie tells another child about Tom murdering two men. She tells tom
that he got to go away even though she wanted him near (417). Reluctantly, Ma send him away in
order to keep everyone safe. She admits that she would like to keep him close, but she stifles her
personal feelings in order to safeguard the family. Ma ignores her

Controlling Mouse 1.1 Moving Mouse Cursor We utilized the forefinger as a cursor controller to
control mouse cursor. We utilized two distinctive methodologies for moving the mouse cursor. The
principal strategy is mapping cursor control. It implies that the pointer on a camera screen can position
maps to a desktop screen position. At the end of the day, the mouse cursor is put on the desktop
window alongside the forefinger tips position showed on the camera screen position. This strategy has
an issue. In the event that the determination of the desktop window has a higher determination than
the camera determination, then the cursor position can t be precise in light of the fact that when the
camera determination believers to the desktop window determination we lose middle of the road
esteem. We expect the proportion of hopping pixel is up to 4 pixels. The second strategy is weighted
pace cursor control. We get a distinction of the finger of the present picture and the past picture and
process the separation between the two. Next, we move the mouse cursor if the hole between the two
finger pictures (present and past casing) is far then the mouse cursor moves quick or, if the hole is
close then the cursor moves moderate. This calculation additionally has an issue. Since we are
working with continuous picture preparing, the customer machine ought to be quick. The picture
information rate is 15 outlines for every second and we require

Using Subliminal Messages
Have you ever been in this situation? You have plenty of things to do, and your nerves are basically up
on your neck. You feel that a single move can destroy everything that you have planned for, and can
wreak havoc in any aspect of your life, such as your relationships or career.
Well, guess what, you are not alone. However, many have learned to manage quite well any stressful
environment and even keep themselves relaxed despite the mounting pressure, all thanks to
meditation.
How Meditation Can Help You Relax

Meditation, in general, can declutter your mind. Sometimes you feel a lot of pressure simply because
you are thinking too much. By meditating, you bring yourself to the present moment, so you do not
have to worry about the mistakes you have done in the past or the results that can happen in the future.
Using Subliminal Messages
During meditation, you can also bombard your subconscious mind with subliminal messages. These
are usually affirmations that can help change your manner of thinking.
Here is an example: You feel so tensed about the coming sales presentation in front of the different
managers in your organization. While meditating, you can utilize the following subliminal messages:
I can do this.
I am confident I can beat these tensed nerves.
I have prepared myself well.
I am ready to take on this challenge.
The subliminal messages may be repeated quite a number of times to make them more effective.
Nevertheless, it does not remove the fact that with them, you may just get the courage, motivation, and

In The Skin Of A Lion Essay
The Unknown History
The genre of historical fiction is loved by many authors as it allows them to use the past as an
inspiration while writing a fictional story that will captivate the readers. In the novel In the Skin of a
Lion by Michael Ondaatje, the rich history is explored throughout the novel with the theme of the
unfair treatment of immigrants, the construction of both the Bloor Street Viaduct and the Queen Street
Waterworks and the character of Rowland Harris. By looking at the historical facts in the novel, we
can see why it s considered a historical fiction novel, which most readers fail to recognize; this is
important because Ondaatje chooses this writing style so that the readers can learn about the rich
history of Toronto through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Ondaatje names him Rowland Harris and he s a secondary character in the story.
However, that being said, Rowland Harris is portrayed as a visionary, a dreamer and an achiever. The
author does a great job of bringing this character in the story all while maintaining some great
accomplishments in his life. Roland Harris envisioned a lot of aspects that Toronto now has. During
Harris and Patrick s conversation at The Queen Street Waterworks, Harris says It turned out I was
dreaming about projects for the city that had been rejected over the years. Wonderful things that were
said to be too vulgar or expensive, too this too that. (Ondaatje 237) Roland Harris was a great architect
for the city of Toronto, he was a visionary and wanted to make the city of Toronto grow. This is
directly linked to Toronto s history and Ondaatje uses that secondary character who the readers don t
see a lot throughout the book to talk about someone who dreamed big for Toronto. Harris even says to
Patrick I mean the Bloor Street Viaduct and this building here are just a hint of what could have been
done here. (Ondaatje 237) For someone who was a visionary for Toronto, the sky would have been the
limit if he had the money and the right to keep making the city grow. The Character of Harris has
played a valuable part in the way Toronto is shaped today and Ondaatje knew

Creationist Argument Against Creationism
As seen from the infographic, Creationism meets absolutely none of the requirements to be considered
a science; for instance, Creationism has no physical evidence, is not repeatable, and has no backing
from any other branch of science. In this specific instance, evolution is the comparative to
Creationism. Unlike its counterpart, evolution can be repeatedly tested because it is still happening to
this day while the beliefs of Creationism seem to have occurred only once. Additionally, if
Creationism was to have any evidence, it would probably be the Bible, but not even that has scientific
backing. Along with this Creationism cannot be backed by any branch of science, due to the fact that it
does not follow the scientific method. Due to this, Creationism cannot be considered a science and in
turn cannot be taught in place of a science curriculum. Despite this, Creationists still press for some
form of their religious beliefs to be taught in the public school system. Fundamentalist Creationists do
not stop at just asking for Creationism to be taught in public schools, as mentioned before, sometimes
they turn to extremes. First, it is beneficial to understand the basis on which Creationists attempt to
discredit science. One of the most common misconceptions from Creationism is that it is a suitable
scientific alternative to the evolutionary theory. This is simply not true, as evident from the
aforementioned infographic. Using this as the foundation for their argument,

Eyewitness Testimony And Its Impact On The Outcome Of A Trial
How Accurate Are Eyewitness Testimonies?
Have you ever been a witness to a crime? Would you feel comfortable if prosecutors relied on your
eye witness testimony alone for a conviction? According to The Magic of the Mind , eyewitness
testimony which relies on the accuracy of human memory, has an enormous impact on the outcome of
a trial. Eyewitness testimony is a legal term. During an eyewitness testimony, the witness usually goes
into an account of the crime he or she has witnessed. This can include details of the crime or
identification of perpetrators. Eyewitness testimony is an important area of research in cognitive
psychology and human memory (simplypsychology.com). Eyewitness testimony can be affected by
many psychological factors such as:
Anxiety/ Stress
Reconstructive Memory
Weapon Focus
Leading Questions during trial
There is almost always a great deal of anxiety or stress associated with crimes of violence. There was
a study conducted that showed that people who saw a film of a violent attack, remembered fewer of
the 40 items of information about the event than a control group who saw a less stressful version
(Clifford and Scott, 1978). So does that mean the more stress a person is under, the less likely that
person will be able to recall key specifics about a crime he or she has witnessed? However, there was
a study by Yuille and Cutshall (1986) that contradicted the importance of stress influencing eyewitness
memory. The study showed the witnesses of a

Some of the Puritan Beliefs that Led to Tensions, Conflicts, and Concerns among the Colonists and/or

The Puritans were a distinct group of individuals who performed religious actions. They emerged
within the England church in the mid 16th century. These people shared a conjoint Calvinist theology
as well as the common Anglican Church criticisms and the English government and society. The
Puritans population grew steadily, hence culminating in the 1640s English Civil War and the Oliver
Cromwell rule of the 1640s.

The Puritans believed that the Almighty had chosen them to create a New Jerusalem in Eden, the
Promised Land and took this as a calling that they shouldn t have failed in. these people were received
well with enthusiasm and were discovered to believe in ways that were parallel to those of the
Europeans. They also held that the supreme God both tested and favored them. In their teachings, the
devil s description was that of a tormentor and a tempter, who tirelessly worked in attempt to disorient
them. However, they were encouraged to always be ready for him and defeat him so as to receive God

Religion played a significant role in the Native American Society as well as the Puritan Society even
though both of them believed in varied ideologies. The Puritan people believed that had selected a few
people to join in heaven and live with him. On the other hand, the Natives had a belief that all of us
were the same in the eyes of God and no one was greater than the other. These two groups had their
meanings propagated in a very much contrasting manner.

The Competitive Forces Facing Deere On The Global Market...
1. How strong are the competitive forces confronting Deere in the global market for agricultural and
construction equipment? Do a five forces analysis and identify the key driving forces and key success
factors to support your answer. Deere does not have any strong competitive forces that are confronting
them. Buyers. As of 2013 Deere has 34% share of the exports of agricultural equipment. Buyers tend
to go with a known brand name. Deere has been around 1837 and have been known for their excellent
quality farm equipment. Since the buyers are a small group of farmers, government and big
corporations, the buyers cannot influence the prices of the equipment. Deere is known for not
repossessing farm equipment when there is a down turn, like the depression. This does instill the
brand into the buyers. They established operations in strategic countries to keep the prices down and
have product ready when it is needed. Suppliers. They have many strategic manufacturing plants all
over the globe. They have plants that build the equipment that is the best fit for that particular country.
This also, creates a supply chain designated for each location. This eliminates issues of getting the
parts to the location on a timely basis. Being a large manufacturing company each location is able to
get the supplies it needs through a contract. This is where they work on getting the best price
available. Substitute. The equipment that Deere sells is very high end and difficult to

Therefore, any amino acids produced in cellular respiration can contain the bacteria Bordetella
Pertussis. One of the symptoms of this illness is a fever, if it becomes too high it can cause proteins to
unravel and loose its normal shape. This is called a denatured protein; which are related to many
diseases. In order for a protein to function correctly, the structure has to be normal. The primary
structure of a protein its sequence of amino acids causes it to fold into its functional shape. (Simon,
Reece, Dickey, page 48). In other words, if the amino acids aren t functioning correctly, the proteins
can become misfolded. The disease is named for the distinguishing sound produced when those who
are affected attempt to breathe in. The whoop was created because of the inflammation of the
laryngeal structures that vibrate when there s a quick inflow of air. This illness is affecting many
individuals and as the years continue to pass it s only getting worse. The sad part is; it s mostly present

The Case Against Police Brutality
It was unexpected day at home for Tino. After coming home from school, we got him a toy gun as a

He was playing it in our front yard, while we were preparing for the party. We heard the bang sound

brutality is out of control in America. The reasons for it is police are killing many innocent people,
they make people doesn t feel safe and it is unstoppable if we are not doing something. Many of you
have heard in the news that many innocent people have been killed by the police. It s unacceptable for

The Is Like A Rope Of Sand
All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of
reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses
against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18 19 NIV) I spoke
yesterday how life is like a rope of sand. You can t hold onto it, no matter how hard you try. We also
can t predict what might happen at any moment. My heart has been heavy this past week over the
shooting in Oregon. I think about the conversations at breakfast. Plans being made for the weekend or
perhaps just for the afternoon. And then in one senseless evil moment nine lives were lost and an
entire community was shaken to its very core. Every indicator at this point says that the shooter, for
whatever reason, was targeting Christians. I say this with caution because when events like this
happen its difficult to completely get a true accounting of the events. BUt let it suffice to say, at this
moment the targeting of Christians seems to be the case. How are we, as the church, to respond to
something like this? That s not idle question. We may focus more on an event like this because it
happens in our own country, but perhaps it ought to wake us up to the truth that Christians are being
persecuted all over the world. Always have been, really, in one form or another. Consider, just in the

Discussion of Instructional Problem American college students know research and essay writing is an
inevitable aspect of their educational career. Gathering research based materials and paraphrasing this
information can be daunting for some English speaking students. For college bound English as a

while keeping the information as authentic and accurate as possible can be nearly impossible. Many
ESL college students have yet to learn the techniques to correctly paraphrase the information they

Anesthesia Essay examples
Anesthesia was developed in order to block or prevent pain during medical procedures. Anesthesia has
been the backbone of the medical world for around 100 years now. Early anesthetics were primitive
and many patients simply did not trust anesthetics. Anesthesia is still a risky process even in todays
advanced medical world. Anesthesia is not used to treat or diagnose any specific disease; the sole
purpose is to aid both the patient and surgeon through procedures. However, anesthesia is used in
different ways based on the magnitude of the procedure. There are three levels of anesthesia which
include; local, regional, and general anesthesia. An anesthesiologist determines which type of
anesthesia will be needed. Local anesthesia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For regional anesthesia, a local anesthetic will be injected into a nerve.[1] The anesthetic will then
affect a series of nerves. The anesthetic blocks pain by interrupting nerve transmissions, also known as
action potentials.[3] Action potentials occur at a constant rate within the body. Action potentials occur
between nerve cells and all the body to feel pain. A nerve cell has a negative charge at a resting state
due to negatively charged proteins within the cell.[3] Although the inside of the cell contains
positively charged potassium ions as well, overall the charge is still negative. Along with potassium on
the inside of the cell, positively charged sodium ions are located around the exterior of the cell.[3]
When an action potential occurs, the cell becomes even more negatively charged. In turn, this causes
sodium transport molecules in the membrane of the cell to open.[3] Sodium will then enter the cell
during active transport. The positively charged sodium will cancel out the negatively charged active
potential which will depolarize the cell. This allows neurotransmitters to transfer from cell to cell.[3]
These neurotransmitters are what allows the body to feel pain. Local anesthetics work by diffusing
through nerve fibers. Once they ve reached the cells, they block the sodium transport molecules in the
cell.[2] Therefore neurotransmitters cannot transfer information from cell to cell and the feeling of

Symbolism in English Literature
Archetypal figures present in Chaucer s The Miller s Tale By José Luis Guerrero Cervantes According
to Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, an archetype is a symbolic formula that begins to work wherever there
are no conscious ideas present. They are innate universal psychic dispositions that form the substrate
from which the basic themes of human life emerge[1]. The archetype is experienced in projections,
powerful affect images, symbols, moods, and behavior patterns such as rituals, ceremonials and love.
Jung[2] compared the archetype, the pre formed tendency to create images, to a dry river bed. Rain

Copper And Zinc Reaction Lab Report
In retrospect, the practical was very easy to follow and achieved the desired results. In order to
quantify the amount of electricity generated through the spontaneous redox reaction, a multimeter was
used to measure the follow of electricity between the Copper and the anode. This gave us an increased
reliability and accuracy than using an analogue voltmeter. When it was calculated, the reaction
between the Copper and Magnesium in theory had a potential difference of 2.58v. The Copper and
Zinc reaction was also calculated to have the expected potential difference of 1.1v whilst the Copper
and Lead had 0.7v. When looking at the half equations of the various reactions, the electron transfer
direction can be gathered. The place of oxidation is the side which loses electrons and the place of
reduction, which gains them. Therefore, it can be determined that the electron flow direction is from
the anodes [ which are Zinc, Magnesium, and Lead], the oxidization agents, to the Copper cathode, the
reduction agent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These differences across all three reactions ranged from 0.056 volts and 1.58 volts. The potential
cause for these inaccuracies are numerous. The occurrence of these inaccuracies may have been due to
random errors such as the sizes of the filter paper and meta strips, inaccurate measurements of the
solutions, weight of the metal strips. In addition, the introduction of systematic errors may have also
increased the inaccuracies in the results. Some systematic errors which occurred were: not sanding any
of the metal strips as well as not having a specified amount of time for soaking the filter paper. These
errors both random and systematic may have been minimised or highlighted through conducting

script based on the mistrust of authority while with the military in World War I. The plot tells the story
of a crazy hypnotist, Dr. Caligari, who hypnotizes and uses a somnambulist, Cesare, to commit
murders. Dr. Caligari represented the murderous authority that the German war government and
Cesare is symbolic of the common man, who is conditioned to kill. Siegfried Kracauer, the author of

Bread Produced with 100% Ontario Based Flour
In January, 2013 we began our experimental work by conducting detailed analysis of results of bread
produced with 100% Ontario based flour. Since direct application of Ontario based flour resulted in
excessive dryness, and reduced volume of bread, we decided to conduct series of semi industrial trials
in order to adapt our present formula to new flour chemical composition. The objective of our
investigation in this phase was to apply Ontario flour, and get the bread with the same moisture, and
volume as it is originally.
After this first attempt in January, 2013 we firstly tried to increase gluten structure. Gluten is additive
commonly used in bakery industry which primary function is to enhance gas retention capacity, water
absorption, and retention, as well as, increase dough strength. Initially, our formula contained 3 4 % of
gluten, and we tested formulas with up to 10% of gluten. Increasing of gluten did not give significant
results, and formulas with 10% of gluten had increase of volume of about 10%. We did not test
formulas with more than 10% of gluten because it is very expensive additive, and it is not
economically to apply it in higher concentrations.
After learning that gluten does not give expected results, our next step was increasing protein level by
introducing the balancing the flours. We decided to introduce harder wheat flours with higher
concentration of proteins. Average protein level of Ontario flour is 10.5%, while west flours contain

stronger the stress placed on them is much greater and recovery time is longer. This means that the
interval between sessions needs to be longer.
The better types of exercises will include some cardio work. The leading sort of cardio is interval
training and a good way of doing that is sport. Sports that involve lots of sudden burst of intense work
are the best types, things like basketball are ideal. This sort of cardio is better for the joints and
provides a good workout for the heart. It is also a lot more fun than boring jogging, so it is much
easier to stick with.
The best type of exercises for body building needs the support of a good diet. A healthy diet will allow

how each of them relates specifically to one individual s life experiences. I chose to interview and
discuss specific experiences that shaped my father, R. Schein (R.S.). Additionally, I will explain the
impact that risk factors and protective factors had on his development. Summary of relevant

that seems significant to address is the middle childhood period. During this stage, the child begins to
start taking on more of a self concept. A child should begin taking the information and life rules that
have been modeled and taught to them in earlier years and acquire their own self esteem and be able to
start assessing their global self worth. Many factors can, however, impact these developmental
achievements (Papalia, Olds, Feldman, Martorell, Papalia, 2012). Erik Erickson described this
psychosocial stage to be one focused on industry versus inferiority. During this stage of the child s
life, the child must acquire skills that are valued in their society. When a child successfully finds that
they can master skills and have the ability to complete tasks, they resolve with the virtue of
competence. Significant to this period is the parents beliefs about their child s competence. In one
longitudual study of U.S. children, it was determined that parents beliefs of their children s
competence in math and sports strongly associated with the children s beliefs. Although this stage is
one when children begin taking on more individuality in thinking and carrying out tasks, this study
shows how much children are still needing positive reinforcement and encouragement from parents to
continue progressing (Papalia, Olds, Feldman, Martorell, Papalia, 2012). R.S. showed interest in
competitive swimming and because his father showed concentrated his support and attention of R.S.

D1. ROS, ROA, ROE, Leverage, Sales, Profits
* Return on Sales (ROS) ROS is the percentage of each dollar of sales that is left as a profit. For
example if a company has $100 in revenue and $20 in profit, at the end of the period they have a ROS
of 20%. ROS is best used when compared to other companies within the same industry. This is
because different industries can have different levels of ROS depending on the competitiveness level.
Competiveness can drive prices down overall in the industry, which will drive down ROS for all
companies. A high ROS can indicate premium pricing in the industry or great efficiency where as a
low ROS can be an indicator of financial trouble such as a company slashing prices just to garner ...

For example, Able could have sold an additional 0.2% of the market segment units of 14,937 and Acre
an additional 1.9% of the market of 21,715 units. Doing that math for each product and applying the
sales price and contribution margin shows a potential increase in sales of $74,484 (a 32% increase)
and a margin increase of $26,286 (126% increase). This would have increase our ROS from 9.0% to
15.5%, which would have been tops in the industry.
By improving a forecast and production synergy, we will be able to capture closer to our market sales
potential which will keep our inventory carry costs down and our ROS up.
* Return on assets (ROA) ROA shows how successful a company is in generating profits on the
amount of assets they own. Since assets consist of debt and equity, ROA is a measure of how well a
company converts investment dollars into profit. The higher the percentage, the more profit a
company is generating per dollar of investment. Similar to ROS, this ratio needs to be looked at
compared to the industry as different industries have different requirements that can affect ROA. For
example, companies in the airline and mining industries need expensive assets to operate so will have
lower ROA s compared to companies in the pharmaceutical or advertising industries. The table below
shows our ROA for each year compared to the industry. The graph following shows the ROA for
Andrews alone over time.

What Is The Difference Between Zoo And Zoo
Zoos and National parks (Wild Sanctuaries) are hugely popular attractions for adults and children
alike, but are they actually good? How do you tell the difference when everyone uses the same words?
National parks or wild sanctuaries are large areas of crowd land set aside for native plants, animals
and the places in which they live. National parks protect places of natural beauty. National park is
home to many endemic kinds.
National parks are actually protected areas. IUCN definition of a protected area: A clearly defined
geographical space, recognized, dedicated and managed, through legal or other effective means, to

The controversy over sanctuaries often comes down to how much the animals are used to draw in
paying visitors (including volunteers). Reputable organizations will have a minimal or no contact
approach to their wildlife unless the animal is never going to be released. The main aim of sanctuaries
is to rescue, rehabilitate and release as many animals as possible, so those which maintain a hands off
approach are usually ones which are keeping these principles in mind. A lion cub which has been kept
in a fence and touched by hundreds of humans can almost never be released back into the wildlife.
Is there evidence of breeding?
Breeding wild animals in captivity adds to the problem of unwanted animals, which sanctuaries were
created to solve. The main problem with facilities which allow visitors to collaborate and connect with
cubs and other larger animals, is that they need to breed or buy a constant supply to keep visitors
coming. And what happens to these cute cubs as they grow up and become too large and unpredictable
to interact with tourists? Often old species are sold to private hunting ranches all over the world,
where their habituation to humans makes shooting them much easier.

sexual services to Japanese soldiers, both before and during World War II. These women were known
as comfort women and the Imperial Conference, which was composed of the emperor, representatives
from the armed forces and the main Cabinet ministers, approved their use by Japanese soldiers.

The term comfort women refers to the victims of a premeditated systematic plan originated and

Suddenly, the soldiers came no more, and upon asking we found that the war had ended. In other
regions, as the Japanese committed harikari , the women were forced to do the same. In extreme cases,
the women were put in a cave and blown up.
After the war, many of the comfort women were too sick to be moved and were taken under the care
of the American army. Most of the women were left with no place to go, as they were in a strange
country with no money, and were too humiliated to go home. According to one comfort woman, my
body s wasted, therefore I do not dare go home in fear of being ignored and looked down upon.
Even after the war ended, the comfort women were not free. Their guilty minds and inferiority
complexes kept them from returning home and they stayed in foreign countries. The small amount that

Net Income Of Both Exxon And Chevron
1. Compare and contrast the limitations and usefulness of the single step income statement and the
multi step income statement.
A single step income statement lists all expenses and cos of goods sold in one column; it does not
break expenses down into categories. They are all totaled and listed together. Even though the single
step income statement lacks in detail, many companies still like to use it because it is easy to prepare
and read. To expand, the single step income statement is short and to the point and is a great tool to
use for persons who want or only need to see the bottom result. A multi step income statement lists
income and expenses into three main categories with subtotals to give a much better breakdown to the

making it much for detailed for the financial reader. Although the multi step income statement is more
time consuming to prepare it provides a more in depth financial picture of the company to the

Introduction
The Hawthorne Experiments were conducted between 1927 and 1932 at the works of the Western
Electric Company in Chicago. Basically the aim of these experiments was to attempt to reduce worker
dissatisfaction and resist trade union influence by the putting in place of a paternalistic package of
social and recreational benefits calculated to sustain workers loyalty (Sheldrake 105:1996). Many little

The Theory Of Infantile Sexuality
Although modern society disregards the theory of infantile sexuality and its relationship to neurotic
personality types, closer examination shows that a direct correlation exists. Freud s five stages of
infantile sexuality prove their significant impact on the eventual maturation of what is regarded as
adult psychosexual behaviors. Freud categorizes the stages of infantile sexuality as follows; oral, anal,
phallic, latency and genital. Each stage is represented by certain developmental behaviors, which are
innate in all normal functioning children. The complete transition of the libido from one stage to the
next is necessary to avoid fixation on a specific erogenous zone. Society s lack of attention to these

I. The Five Stages of Infantile Sexuality
The initial encounter with sensual behavior brings forth the first leap into psychosexual behaviors of
the oral stage. This action is initiated by the infant s earliest pleasurable experience, nursing. The
unavoidable drive of the libido is drawn into the only sensation of pleasure to the infant s knowledge,
the stimulation of the oral cavity. In this sense the libido is concerned with the direction an individual
focuses their energy. The total satisfaction received the first time the infant nurses is what prompts the
oral stage. From the initial contact with a mother s breast, a child desires to recreate that same
stimulation. This feeling is the unconscious drive along the journey of psychosexual development. At
this age everything the infant does is dependent on caregivers. There is no sense of independence.
When teeth are formed, caregivers begin weening the infant away from relying on nursing as its form
of sustenance. The forceful way the authoritative figures introduce autonomy creates conflict. The
libido does not willingly detach from the oral fixation, and total dependent state. Once the primary
form of stimulation is no longer available the child substitutes it for whatever is nearest to him. This
accounts for why babies enjoy putting objects into their mouths; bottles, pacifiers, fingers, toes, and
keys. Because the sense of ego has not come into play, there is no desire

Religion And Culture In Where The Gods Fly By Jean Kwork
Where the gods fly
As an immigrant it can be hard to integrate into a new country. There are new rules that you need to
follow, a new culture to fit into and a whole new life to begin. You have to choose between three
different ways of integrating into the new country: firstly, you can fully let go of your old traditions
and become a part of the new culture, secondly you can keep you own traditions and isolate yourself
from the influence from the new country, or lastly, you can mix the two cultures and take the best parts
of them. In the short story Where the gods fly written by Jean Kwork, religion and culture becomes a
huge influence on the decisions a Chinese immigrant mother takes for her daughter, which I will
analyse in the following essay. The essay will include a resume, it will deal with the story s structure
and the use of contrasts.
Where the gods fly is a short story about a Chinese immigrant family that move to New York.
The parents work at a factory in Chinatown and because they do not want to leave their daughter,
Pearl, alone, they sign her up for a ballet class. Pearl becomes extraordinary good at ballet, but
because her mother does not deem ballet as a valid future choice also including the fact that she deems
it too good for them, she has decided to make Pearl quite ballet.
The main structure of the story is not how a typical novel is build up. The short story starts in media

foreshadowing about a ballet story that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are myriad ways a child may develop a love of reading, however in the modern era it seems that
this passion and hunger for not only knowledge but for the pure enjoyment derived from it has been

most other children I see are too endeavored with their tablets, videogames and social media to be

Symptoms And Consequences Of Chickenpox
Some diseases seem simple and commonplace, but people don t always fully understand how they are
contracted or for how long they can spread them. Even those most seemingly harmless diseases can
have consequences that lead to hospitalizations, later complications, and death. Education to the
public on these diseases is important for preventing their continued spread. Some diseases could be
nearly eradicated if people understood the usefulness of prevention techniques and how not to spread
the disease if it is contracted. Chickenpox, also known as Varicella, is one of those diseases that seems
like it is not a big deal, but could be for some people that are more vulnerable to its effects. The first
thing that a person must understand with chickenpox is how it is transmitted and how contagious it is.
Chickenpox is caused by a simple virus called the varicella zoster virus (VZV). It is spread from
person to person fairly easily once it is contracted. Chickenpox is an extremely contagious disease
among those who have never been vaccinated for chickenpox or have never had chickenpox before. It
can spread simply by coughing, sneezing, breathing in virus particles, or touching the blisters of an
infected person. Occasionally chickenpox can be caught from someone who has shingles as well,
because shingles and chickenpox are both caused by VZV. One difficult feature of chickenpox is a
person is contagious one to two days before blisters even appear, therefore at that point they are

Lithium Ion Batteries And Its Effects
Lithium ion batteries were introduced commercially during the early 1990 s as the desire for smaller
and more lightweight rechargeable batteries grew with the increased demand for the improvement of
portable electronic devices (Yoshino, 2012). Prior to this there were commercially available
rechargeable batteries already on the market, predominately in the form of lead acid (PbA), Nickel
Cadmium (NiC) and Nickel Metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The development of the Lithium ion (Li
ion) battery began due to the knowledge of lithium s low redox reaction rate and high energy to

Through the continuous research and development in the chemistry of Li ion batteries the components
have been extensively studied in an attempt to find the best materials to ensure a battery with a high
energy capacity and safety features. There are a wide range of cathode materials available for use in a
Li ion battery. Those with a good level of stability at high temperatures, insolubility in the electrolyte
and good electrical conductivity (Chakrabarti, 2008) being the ideal choice for the cathode. In general
cathodes consist of lithium metal oxides and these layered or intercalated oxides containing nickel,
cobalt and manganese are those which have been studied most extensively. Both cobalt and nickel
have a high voltage, making these metals excellent options for the cathode, however, the availability
of cobalt is quite limited. Manganese is a low cost substitution but it has limited cycling behaviour,
hence mixtures of these metals are combined to provide a cathode with a high thermal threshold, good
rate capabilities and availability with low toxicity and low cost (Claus, 2008). Recent studies have
highlighted polyoxyanion structures, such as Lithium Iron Phosphate, as options for the cathode
material, providing high electrochemical performances as well as nontoxicity (Chakrabarti, 2008). As
with cathode materials, there are many options for the material of the anode, with each providing
different advantages. The Anode requires a high and reversible

Brokeback Mountain Psychology
Brokeback Mountain is a film that describes a tragedy surrounding forbidden love. The love is
between two men, Ennis and Jack and the setting is Wyoming for twenty years from the 1960 s to the
1980 s. This was a time of conservative values that looked at homosexuality in a negative light. These
values caused Ennis and Jack to create a life that was what was expected in spite of what they wanted.
From this came a great deal of frustration and pain for the two men, their wives, and families. The
movie also related to a common issue of today s society and that is the continued discrimination of the
LGBT community. There are signs of change in modern society, but also much needed work to be
done to allow an individual to live a life with freedom to express their sexuality. When the viewer
looks at the film from a sociological perspective, the issue of societal norms is seen and the abnormal
relationship in a homosexual relationship is the focus. When you think of the western part of the
United States, the wild west comes to mind. Settlers moving across our country during the 1800 s to
start a new life and look for adventure. With that comes the roles of the men and women who were
involved in the movement. Men were considered real men , that were in charge of their lives, law,
women, and the land. These men conquered all that was put in front of them and never backed away
from what was put in front of them. Their sexuality was seen as a dominate male who loved and

  • 2. Why The Arts Is Not The Spotlight Why the Arts Deserve the Spotlight In recent years, the debate of art programs in schools have become more prominent. Many people argue that developing the arts is not only a waste of time, but money. However, the arts programs are more than just painting for an hour at school. Programs like band, drama, and art have been neglected in public schools for too long, they can represent schools just as well as any sport, and they have the ability to create a better rounded and safer society. Being a part of all three of these programs throughout high school has provided me with first hand experience of the problems and disrespect they face. The neglect of arts programs have had drastic impact on our school. While sports are encouraged from an early age and have budgets large enough to cover their equipment and multiple coaches, two of the three feeder schools for East Ridge don t even have a band program. The one feeder school fortuitous enough to have band only has it for sixth through eighth grade students. The band director is not only directing the middle school s band in the morning, she also directs East Ridge s band in the afternoon. Between four local schools, she is the only music teacher. Another section of the Arts that has been neglected for years is Drama. Only available through an elective at school, Drama has no budget from the school and has struggled to stay afloat through concession and kind donations from local people. • 3. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Leverage... Banks typically need equity and need to make debts to fund loans and other operations. A bank s indebtedness is primarily composed by deposits, borrowings owed to other banks, and bonds released by the bank itself in the capital market. On the other hand a bank s equity is determined by subtracting the amount of a bank s liabilities from the amount of its assets; for a bank, equity largely coincides with capital. Regulation of bank capital is necessary in modern economy because without it a bank could potentially hold very modest capital and in case of losses become insolvent and unable to repay its creditors, including savers and deposit holders. Capital serves as a cushion that should allow banks to withstand even substantial losses without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rule merely imposes a minimum proportion of assets (or a maximum proportion of debt) to equity, but those assets are not supposed to meet any specific requirements, especially in regard to their riskiness, so a bank s capital, in a system which uses the leverage ratio alone, could potentially consist solely of very high risk assets. This can lead to a shift of the entire banking system towards riskier and riskier operations, due to the fact that, because the gearing ratio imposes an higher level of capital than that, that will be hold without regulation, and this is undesirable from the perspective of a bank, since it reduces its total amount of resources that can be invested for profit, a bank would be naturally induced to invest its remaining resources in high risk assets which usually promise an higher return of profit compared to low risk assets. Such results would be obviously counterproductive, considering that the intention of assuring a shelter from insolvency would be completely defeated in the case that the high risk assets would prove to be worth less than expected. In extreme scenarios the situation could be worse than the absence of regulation, if the existence of rules imposing leverage ratios were to induce a general sense among the public of soundness of the banking system, that may prove to be misplaced in the case that the solvency of the banks is ... The weak are divided from the strong and the leaders are divided from the followers. These leaders are the glue that keeps families and communities united. In John Steinbeck s novel The Grapes of Wrath, Ma Joad surfaces as a forceful and selfless authority figure that unites the family as a result of a crisis. Ma, like all leaders, must be forceful in order to meet their objectives. Several circumstances occur in which Ma must be a forceful or suffer the consequences of a divided family. We utilized two distinctive methodologies for moving the mouse cursor. The principal strategy is mapping cursor control. It implies that the pointer on a camera screen can position maps to a desktop screen position. At the end of the day, the mouse cursor is put on the desktop window alongside the forefinger tips position showed on the camera screen position. This strategy has an issue. In the event that the determination of the desktop window has a higher determination than the camera determination, then the cursor position can t be precise in light of the fact that when the camera determination believers to the desktop window determination we lose middle of the road esteem. We expect the proportion of hopping pixel is up to 4 pixels. The second strategy is weighted pace cursor control. We get a distinction of the finger of the present picture and the past picture and process the separation between the two. Next, we move the mouse cursor if the hole between the two finger pictures (present and past casing) is far then the mouse cursor moves quick or, if the hole is close then the cursor moves moderate. In The Skin Of A Lion Essay The Unknown History The genre of historical fiction is loved by many authors as it allows them to use the past as an inspiration while writing a fictional story that will captivate the readers. In the novel In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje, the rich history is explored throughout the novel with the theme of the unfair treatment of immigrants, the construction of both the Bloor Street Viaduct and the Queen Street Waterworks and the character of Rowland Harris. By looking at the historical facts in the novel, we can see why it s considered a historical fiction novel, which most readers fail to recognize; this is important because Ondaatje chooses this writing style so that the readers can learn about the rich history of Toronto through ... However, that being said, Rowland Harris is portrayed as a visionary, a dreamer and an achiever. The author does a great job of bringing this character in the story all while maintaining some great accomplishments in his life. Roland Harris envisioned a lot of aspects that Toronto now has. During Harris and Patrick s conversation at The Queen Street Waterworks, Harris says It turned out I was dreaming about projects for the city that had been rejected over the years. Wonderful things that were said to be too vulgar or expensive, too this too that. (Ondaatje 237) Roland Harris was a great architect for the city of Toronto, he was a visionary and wanted to make the city of Toronto grow. This is directly linked to Toronto s history and Ondaatje uses that secondary character who the readers don t see a lot throughout the book to talk about someone who dreamed big for Toronto. Harris even says to Patrick I mean the Bloor Street Viaduct and this building here are just a hint of what could have been done here. (Ondaatje 237) For someone who was a visionary for Toronto, the sky would have been the limit if he had the money and the right to keep making the city grow. • 8. Creationist Argument Against Creationism As seen from the infographic, Creationism meets absolutely none of the requirements to be considered a science; for instance, Creationism has no physical evidence, is not repeatable, and has no backing from any other branch of science. In this specific instance, evolution is the comparative to Creationism. Unlike its counterpart, evolution can be repeatedly tested because it is still happening to this day while the beliefs of Creationism seem to have occurred only once. Additionally, if Creationism was to have any evidence, it would probably be the Bible, but not even that has scientific backing. Along with this Creationism cannot be backed by any branch of science, due to the fact that it does not follow the scientific method. Due to this, Creationism cannot be considered a science and in turn cannot be taught in place of a science curriculum. Despite this, Creationists still press for some form of their religious beliefs to be taught in the public school system. Fundamentalist Creationists do not stop at just asking for Creationism to be taught in public schools, as mentioned before, sometimes they turn to extremes. First, it is beneficial to understand the basis on which Creationists attempt to discredit science. One of the most common misconceptions from Creationism is that it is a suitable scientific alternative to the evolutionary theory. • 9. Eyewitness Testimony And Its Impact On The Outcome Of A Trial How Accurate Are Eyewitness Testimonies? Have you ever been a witness to a crime? Would you feel comfortable if prosecutors relied on your eye witness testimony alone for a conviction? According to The Magic of the Mind , eyewitness testimony which relies on the accuracy of human memory, has an enormous impact on the outcome of a trial. Eyewitness testimony is a legal term. During an eyewitness testimony, the witness usually goes into an account of the crime he or she has witnessed. This can include details of the crime or identification of perpetrators. Eyewitness testimony is an important area of research in cognitive psychology and human memory (simplypsychology.com). Eyewitness testimony can be affected by many psychological factors such as: Anxiety/ Stress Reconstructive Memory Weapon Focus Leading Questions during trial There is almost always a great deal of anxiety or stress associated with crimes of violence. There was a study conducted that showed that people who saw a film of a violent attack, remembered fewer of the 40 items of information about the event than a control group who saw a less stressful version (Clifford and Scott, 1978). So does that mean the more stress a person is under, the less likely that person will be able to recall key specifics about a crime he or she has witnessed? However, there was a study by Yuille and Cutshall (1986) that contradicted the importance of stress influencing eyewitness memory. The study showed the witnesses of a ... They also held that the supreme God both tested and favored them. In their teachings, the devil s description was that of a tormentor and a tempter, who tirelessly worked in attempt to disorient them. Do a five forces analysis and identify the key driving forces and key success factors to support your answer. Deere does not have any strong competitive forces that are confronting them. Buyers. As of 2013 Deere has 34% share of the exports of agricultural equipment. Buyers tend to go with a known brand name. Deere has been around 1837 and have been known for their excellent quality farm equipment. Since the buyers are a small group of farmers, government and big corporations, the buyers cannot influence the prices of the equipment. Deere is known for not repossessing farm equipment when there is a down turn, like the depression. This does instill the brand into the buyers. They established operations in strategic countries to keep the prices down and have product ready when it is needed. Suppliers. They have many strategic manufacturing plants all over the globe. They have plants that build the equipment that is the best fit for that particular country. This also, creates a supply chain designated for each location. This eliminates issues of getting the parts to the location on a timely basis. Being a large manufacturing company each location is able to get the supplies it needs through a contract. The primary structure of a protein its sequence of amino acids causes it to fold into its functional shape. (Simon, Reece, Dickey, page 48). In other words, if the amino acids aren t functioning correctly, the proteins can become misfolded. The disease is named for the distinguishing sound produced when those who are affected attempt to breathe in. Anesthesia is not used to treat or diagnose any specific disease; the sole purpose is to aid both the patient and surgeon through procedures. For regional anesthesia, a local anesthetic will be injected into a nerve.[1] The anesthetic will then affect a series of nerves. The anesthetic blocks pain by interrupting nerve transmissions, also known as action potentials.[3] Action potentials occur at a constant rate within the body. Action potentials occur between nerve cells and all the body to feel pain. A nerve cell has a negative charge at a resting state due to negatively charged proteins within the cell.[3] Although the inside of the cell contains positively charged potassium ions as well, overall the charge is still negative. Along with potassium on the inside of the cell, positively charged sodium ions are located around the exterior of the cell.[3] When an action potential occurs, the cell becomes even more negatively charged. In turn, this causes sodium transport molecules in the membrane of the cell to open.[3] Sodium will then enter the cell during active transport. The positively charged sodium will cancel out the negatively charged active potential which will depolarize the cell. This allows neurotransmitters to transfer from cell to cell.[3] These neurotransmitters are what allows the body to feel pain. Local anesthetics work by diffusing through nerve fibers. Once they ve reached the cells, they block the sodium transport molecules in the cell.[2] Therefore neurotransmitters cannot transfer information from cell to cell and the feeling of ... In order to quantify the amount of electricity generated through the spontaneous redox reaction, a multimeter was used to measure the follow of electricity between the Copper and the anode. This gave us an increased reliability and accuracy than using an analogue voltmeter. When it was calculated, the reaction between the Copper and Magnesium in theory had a potential difference of 2.58v. The Copper and Zinc reaction was also calculated to have the expected potential difference of 1.1v whilst the Copper and Lead had 0.7v. When looking at the half equations of the various reactions, the electron transfer direction can be gathered. The place of oxidation is the side which loses electrons and the place of reduction, which gains them. Since direct application of Ontario based flour resulted in excessive dryness, and reduced volume of bread, we decided to conduct series of semi industrial trials in order to adapt our present formula to new flour chemical composition. The objective of our investigation in this phase was to apply Ontario flour, and get the bread with the same moisture, and volume as it is originally. After this first attempt in January, 2013 we firstly tried to increase gluten structure. Gluten is additive commonly used in bakery industry which primary function is to enhance gas retention capacity, water absorption, and retention, as well as, increase dough strength. Initially, our formula contained 3 4 % of gluten, and we tested formulas with up to 10% of gluten. Increasing of gluten did not give significant results, and formulas with 10% of gluten had increase of volume of about 10%. We did not test formulas with more than 10% of gluten because it is very expensive additive, and it is not economically to apply it in higher concentrations. After learning that gluten does not give expected results, our next step was increasing protein level by introducing the balancing the flours. We decided to introduce harder wheat flours with higher concentration of proteins. Average protein level of Ontario flour is 10.5%, while west flours contain 12.7 ± ... Most comfort women describe the experience this way, Suddenly, the soldiers came no more, and upon asking we found that the war had ended. In other regions, as the Japanese committed harikari , the women were forced to do the same. In extreme cases, the women were put in a cave and blown up. After the war, many of the comfort women were too sick to be moved and were taken under the care of the American army. Most of the women were left with no place to go, as they were in a strange country with no money, and were too humiliated to go home. According to one comfort woman, my body s wasted, therefore I do not dare go home in fear of being ignored and looked down upon. Even after the war ended, the comfort women were not free. Their guilty minds and inferiority complexes kept them from returning home and they stayed in foreign countries. The small amount that married, were often forced to separate after the fact that they were comfort women was known, or they were divorced because they could not have children. • 29. Net Income Of Both Exxon And Chevron 1. Compare and contrast the limitations and usefulness of the single step income statement and the multi step income statement. A single step income statement lists all expenses and cos of goods sold in one column; it does not break expenses down into categories. They are all totaled and listed together. Even though the single step income statement lacks in detail, many companies still like to use it because it is easy to prepare and read. To expand, the single step income statement is short and to the point and is a great tool to use for persons who want or only need to see the bottom result. A multi step income statement lists income and expenses into three main categories with subtotals to give a much better breakdown to the financial reader. The multi step income statement shows the different sources of income and expenses making it much for detailed for the financial reader. Although the multi step income statement is more time consuming to prepare it provides a more in depth financial picture of the company to the creditors and lenders. 2. Basically the aim of these experiments was to attempt to reduce worker dissatisfaction and resist trade union influence by the putting in place of a paternalistic package of social and recreational benefits calculated to sustain workers loyalty (Sheldrake 105:1996). Contributors of the Hawthorne Studies A number of sociologists and psychologists made major contributions to the study of the neoclassical perspective, which is also known as the human relations school of thought. The main contributors of the Hawthorne Studies are: Elton Mayo, Hugo Munsterberg, Abraham Maslow, Douglas McGregor, Mary Parker Follet.Hugo Munsterberg is the father of Industrial Psychology . He is a German Psychologist. He established a psychological laboratory at Harvard in 1892 and his pioneering book, Psychology and Industrial Efficiency was translated into English in 1913. Munsterberg suggested that psychologists could make valuable contributions to managers in the areas of employee selection and motivation. Industrial psychology is still a major course of study at many colleges and universities. Another early advocate of the behavioural approach to management was Mary Parker Follet (18681933). Follet worked during the scientific management era, but quickly came to recognize the human element in the workplace. Indeed, her work clearly anticipated the behavioural management perspective and she appeared the need to understand the role of behavioural in organizations. The Theory Of Infantile Sexuality Although modern society disregards the theory of infantile sexuality and its relationship to neurotic personality types, closer examination shows that a direct correlation exists. Freud s five stages of infantile sexuality prove their significant impact on the eventual maturation of what is regarded as adult psychosexual behaviors. Freud categorizes the stages of infantile sexuality as follows; oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital. Each stage is represented by certain developmental behaviors, which are innate in all normal functioning children. The complete transition of the libido from one stage to the next is necessary to avoid fixation on a specific erogenous zone. Society s lack of attention to these stages of adolescent sexuality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I. The Five Stages of Infantile Sexuality The initial encounter with sensual behavior brings forth the first leap into psychosexual behaviors of the oral stage. This action is initiated by the infant s earliest pleasurable experience, nursing. The unavoidable drive of the libido is drawn into the only sensation of pleasure to the infant s knowledge, the stimulation of the oral cavity. In this sense the libido is concerned with the direction an individual focuses their energy. The total satisfaction received the first time the infant nurses is what prompts the oral stage. From the initial contact with a mother s breast, a child desires to recreate that same stimulation. This feeling is the unconscious drive along the journey of psychosexual development. At this age everything the infant does is dependent on caregivers. There is no sense of independence. When teeth are formed, caregivers begin weening the infant away from relying on nursing as its form of sustenance. The forceful way the authoritative figures introduce autonomy creates conflict. The libido does not willingly detach from the oral fixation, and total dependent state. Once the primary form of stimulation is no longer available the child substitutes it for whatever is nearest to him. This accounts for why babies enjoy putting objects into their mouths; bottles, pacifiers, fingers, toes, and keys. Because the sense of ego has not come into play, there is no desire ... • 33. Religion And Culture In Where The Gods Fly By Jean Kwork Where the gods fly As an immigrant it can be hard to integrate into a new country. There are new rules that you need to follow, a new culture to fit into and a whole new life to begin. You have to choose between three different ways of integrating into the new country: firstly, you can fully let go of your old traditions and become a part of the new culture, secondly you can keep you own traditions and isolate yourself from the influence from the new country, or lastly, you can mix the two cultures and take the best parts of them. In the short story Where the gods fly written by Jean Kwork, religion and culture becomes a huge influence on the decisions a Chinese immigrant mother takes for her daughter, which I will analyse in the following essay. The essay will include a resume, it will deal with the story s structure and the use of contrasts. Where the gods fly is a short story about a Chinese immigrant family that move to New York. The parents work at a factory in Chinatown and because they do not want to leave their daughter, Pearl, alone, they sign her up for a ballet class. Pearl becomes extraordinary good at ballet, but because her mother does not deem ballet as a valid future choice also including the fact that she deems it too good for them, she has decided to make Pearl quite ballet. The main structure of the story is not how a typical novel is build up. The short story starts in media res with a line about how the main character is kneeling in front of the gods. This is followed by a foreshadowing about a ballet story that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 34. Public Libraries and Technology There are myriad ways a child may develop a love of reading, however in the modern era it seems that this passion and hunger for not only knowledge but for the pure enjoyment derived from it has been all but lost. I have children of my own that are not old enough to begin to approach about this and most other children I see are too endeavored with their tablets, videogames and social media to be concerned with it. I can therefore only speak from the one common frame of reference I have and that is myself. In doing so, I will inform you of just how a child may develop a love of reading and possibly shed some light on how children may come to have a love of reading even now. I had a wonderful incentive in the form of a persistent grandmother whom would always shut the television off and put a book in my hands. I claimed that I hated the time it took having to read these boringly annoying things called words in no less an object made out of paper, but the experience began to far outweigh the reservations I had about the activity at hand. I was started off with books based on real life events. Not very interesting to a child indeed, but one aspect of children is their curiosity and desire to know more, inquiring about the hows and whys of things, the way they are, who was that and where did they come from. My own thirst for knowledge not only grew but expanded beyond the simple trappings of my grandmother s personal collection and so she decided to bring me to a public library ... • 36. Symptoms And Consequences Of Chickenpox Some diseases seem simple and commonplace, but people don t always fully understand how they are contracted or for how long they can spread them. Even those most seemingly harmless diseases can have consequences that lead to hospitalizations, later complications, and death. Education to the public on these diseases is important for preventing their continued spread. Some diseases could be nearly eradicated if people understood the usefulness of prevention techniques and how not to spread the disease if it is contracted. Chickenpox, also known as Varicella, is one of those diseases that seems like it is not a big deal, but could be for some people that are more vulnerable to its effects. The first thing that a person must understand with chickenpox is how it is transmitted and how contagious it is. Chickenpox is caused by a simple virus called the varicella zoster virus (VZV). It is spread from person to person fairly easily once it is contracted. Chickenpox is an extremely contagious disease among those who have never been vaccinated for chickenpox or have never had chickenpox before. It can spread simply by coughing, sneezing, breathing in virus particles, or touching the blisters of an infected person. Occasionally chickenpox can be caught from someone who has shingles as well, because shingles and chickenpox are both caused by VZV. One difficult feature of chickenpox is a person is contagious one to two days before blisters even appear, therefore at that point they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Lithium Ion Batteries And Its Effects Lithium ion batteries were introduced commercially during the early 1990 s as the desire for smaller and more lightweight rechargeable batteries grew with the increased demand for the improvement of portable electronic devices (Yoshino, 2012). Prior to this there were commercially available rechargeable batteries already on the market, predominately in the form of lead acid (PbA), Nickel Cadmium (NiC) and Nickel Metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. The development of the Lithium ion (Li ion) battery began due to the knowledge of lithium s low redox reaction rate and high energy to weight ratio (Wu, 2015), which, it was believed would make Li ion batteries a good option for introducing smaller, more energy rich batteries to the growing market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the continuous research and development in the chemistry of Li ion batteries the components have been extensively studied in an attempt to find the best materials to ensure a battery with a high energy capacity and safety features. There are a wide range of cathode materials available for use in a Li ion battery. Those with a good level of stability at high temperatures, insolubility in the electrolyte and good electrical conductivity (Chakrabarti, 2008) being the ideal choice for the cathode. In general cathodes consist of lithium metal oxides and these layered or intercalated oxides containing nickel, cobalt and manganese are those which have been studied most extensively. Both cobalt and nickel have a high voltage, making these metals excellent options for the cathode, however, the availability of cobalt is quite limited. Manganese is a low cost substitution but it has limited cycling behaviour, hence mixtures of these metals are combined to provide a cathode with a high thermal threshold, good rate capabilities and availability with low toxicity and low cost (Claus, 2008). Recent studies have highlighted polyoxyanion structures, such as Lithium Iron Phosphate, as options for the cathode material, providing high electrochemical performances as well as nontoxicity (Chakrabarti, 2008). As with cathode materials, there are many options for the material of the anode, with each providing different advantages. The Anode requires a high and reversible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Brokeback Mountain Psychology Brokeback Mountain is a film that describes a tragedy surrounding forbidden love. The love is between two men, Ennis and Jack and the setting is Wyoming for twenty years from the 1960 s to the 1980 s. This was a time of conservative values that looked at homosexuality in a negative light. These values caused Ennis and Jack to create a life that was what was expected in spite of what they wanted. From this came a great deal of frustration and pain for the two men, their wives, and families. The movie also related to a common issue of today s society and that is the continued discrimination of the LGBT community. There are signs of change in modern society, but also much needed work to be done to allow an individual to live a life with freedom to express their sexuality. When the viewer looks at the film from a sociological perspective, the issue of societal norms is seen and the abnormal relationship in a homosexual relationship is the focus.
