Martin Luther Splintering Of Religion
Divine grace was a particularly prominent concern in sixteenth century Europe, it prompted the
splintering of Christendom and was therefore responsible in large part for the subsequent violence.
With the extensive conflict motivated by debates over the delivery of divine grace, it comes as no
surprise that leading figures of the era harbored vastly differing opinions on the subject. Martin
Luther, John Fisher, and Hans Staden, drawing from the exact same source material, came to
drastically different conclusions regarding the bestowment, acceptance, and discovery of divine
grace. Martin Luther s personal interpretation of divine grace differed so greatly from that of other
christians that it facilitated the splintering of a religion. Luther s influential interpretation was
formed on the basis of two claims made by St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans. First, a justified
Christian lives by faith alone, and second Christ is the end and the fulfillment of all commandments
for those who believe in Him, (Luther 22). Luther interpreted St. Paul s words to mean that divine
grace is bestowed through faith, that Faith... will abundantly justify those who have it, such that
they require nothing more to be righteous and pious, (Luther 22). The idea of being saved through
nothing but faith resonated with Luther, a man obsessed with his own repentance, to the point that
he visited confession several times daily (Smith). The inherent nature of faith, as Luther viewed it,
was quite

Sexually Transmitted Infections ( Stis )
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are caused by more than 25 infectious pathogens transmitted
from one person to the other during anal, vaginal as well as oral intercourse. More so, infected
pregnant women can transmit STIs to infants in utero, during birth, or through breastfeeding. The
most common STIs in the U.S. include chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, human
papillomavirus, trichomoniasis, and bacterial vaginosis (Buttaro, Trybulski, Bailey, Sandberg
Cook, 2013). According to the Centers for disease control and prevention, CDC (2015), human
immunodeficiency virus(HIV) infection is a common STD affecting more than 1.2 million people
in the United States (CDC, 2015). Compared to men, women are more biologically susceptible to
STIs. Adolescents and young adults are at higher risk of transmitting STIs due to their sexual
behaviors that consists of several partners, unsafe sex without condoms, and endocervical ectopia in
female patients (Buttaro et al., 2013).
The gram negative diplococcus N. gonorrhoeae is the common pathogen for gonorrhea. About 80%
of female with this infection are asymptomatic. However, if symptomatic, female initially present
with symptoms such as dysuria, leukorrhea, lower abdominal discomfort, and abnormal uterine
bleeding. Later signs may include adnexal tenderness, cervical motion tenderness, purulent vaginal
discharge, elevated temperature, right upper quadrant pain, joint pain or swelling, skin lesions,
nausea, and vomiting. Other

Magma frames in either the lower bit of Earth s hull or the upper piece of its mantle. It is delivered
when high measures of weight join with high temperatures, bringing about a percentage of the
stones in the range to liquefy, making this substance. Without this blend of weight and warm, this
substance would not have the capacity to shape.

Helens 30 years back today crushed the encompassing scene, with the hot gas and flotsam and
jetsam killing endless creatures and harming or pulverizing extensive swaths of timberland. Be
that as it may, life did not by any stretch of the imagination end without even a moment s pause.
Among the reasons the nature bounced back are some astonishing variables, including the early
morning timing of the emission, the way that spring had been late to arrive that year, and the
stunning capacity of creepy crawlies to parachute in once a recuperation was in progress. A few
animal groups figured out how to make due in the midst of the spring of gushing lava s emission

Spanish Colonialism on the History of Puerto Rican People...
Spanish Colonialism on the History of Puerto Rican People
Puerto Rico . The name immediately brings to mind images of a beautiful lush tropical island of
enchantment. The name Puerto Rico usually does not conjure the image of Taino Indians or
African slaves, yet these populations have great importance in laying the foundation for the notion
of identity of Puerto Ricans. In contemporary debates of Puerto Rican identity, it is essential to
examine the history of the island to determine the effects of Spanish colonialism on Puerto Rican
identity. As he demonstrates in his article Puerto Rico: the Four Storeyed Country , Jose L.
Gonzalez discusses the notion of identity as a series of storeys, one built upon another in order

17). The island s discovery did not lead to a quick occupation, though. Juan Ponce de Leon, in
search of gold, made the first effort to settle on the island in 1508. In the next twenty years, the
Taino population became decimated while forced to labor in prospecting gold, a phase that ended
in this time, succumbing to disease and a breakdown in their social network.
An important implication of this initial occupation of the island by Spaniards is the imposition of
the Spanish language. Because the Taino population could be counted in small amounts and
Spanish had established their presence on the island by instilling their language as the only
accepted language, in the name of Spain, a first storey was constructed in the notion of identity of
the Puerto Rican. The Tainos had been moved out and taken over, the Spanish had moved in and
started to let their culture infiltrate into that of the Taino, and now things were changing.
Because the gold rush on the island lost its surge, the Spanish turned its attention to the agricultural
success they could have with the island. However, as a result of their occupation, they lacked the
labor force to effectively move an agricultural economy. In order to replenish the population and
create a strong labor force, the Spanish took part in what others around Puerto Rico had begun to
do, import cheap labor, namely African slaves. As the profit grew from cash crops sugar emerging

People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals Research Paper
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an organization who fights against animal
cruelty. It informs people about the issues with animals. It also compares animal cruelty to drastic
events such as slavery, the Holocaust, World War II, etc. It has a history of proving what is
humane. The website excerpt titled Circuses: Three Rings of Abuse from the website peta.org is
effective for its audience of animal rightspeople, people who go to the circusor support them and
others who are concerned about the circus for the following reasons: usage of rhetorical and
stylistic techniques, the use of pathos and getting information from former circus employees.
However, it is unreasonable for the following reasons: it was unfair with involving... Show more

The information shows how the circuses are operated behind the scenes: According to
congressional testimony given by former Beatty Cole elephant keeper Tom Rider, [I]n White
Plains, N.Y., when Pete did not perform her act properly, she was taken to the tent and laid down,
and five trainers beat her with bullhooks. It shows how the circus treated the elephant if the
elephant does not follow orders. Most circuses have elephants because they are the common
animals in the circus which brings PETA to interview a former elephant keeper. Another former
circus employee PETA interviews is Archele Hundley. She worked with Ringling Bros. as an
animal trainer and quit after claiming to know what the animals go through with trainers. Hundley
said, Ringling Bros. believes that if they can keep these animals afraid, they can keep them
submissive. The circus harms the animals to help itself. Providing information from former
employees gives credibility to PETA to tell the audience that the circus abused its animals.
PETA is effective in many ways, although it s unreasonable by being unfair with involving an
undercover investigation. In being unfair, Video footage shot during a PETA undercover
investigation of Carson Barnes Circus showed Carson Barnes animal care director, Tim Frisco, as
he viciously attacked, yelled and cursed at, and shocked endangered Asian elephants. Conducting an
undercover investigation shows that the organization approach is unethical. PETA is all about
being ethical, yet when it comes down to researching and data it fails at reaching its

Conflict Within Events And Leisure Organisations Essay
Conflict can be defined in various ways and has no single clear meaning. A broad definition of
conflict is a serious disagreement or argument that generally continues for a long period of time,
however according to Huczynski and Buchanan (2010) no conflict exists if two or more parties are
not aware of any conflict. In terms of conflict within events and leisure organisations, De Dre and
Beersma (2005) say that conflict is best viewed as a process that begins when an individual or group
perceives differences and opposition between him/herself and another individual or group about
interests, believes or values that better to him or her. Within organisations, the managementof
conflict greatly depends on the personality and characteristic of individual managers.
It is not possible for all human begins to live in peace and harmony all the time (Martin, 2005,
p.750), therefore conflict within the workplace is inevitable and can arise within events and leisure
organisations for many reasons. Personal factors are the main factor contributing to conflict.
Differences in values and beliefs can often create conflict, as individuals will have alterations about
the underlying purpose of an organisation, and how each other should act toward one another and
customers. Unique personalities can also create conflict as it can result in people struggling to get
along with one another, and therefore a personality clash will occur (Rollinson, 2008, p.418).

when the narrator is feeling that nothing can go his way, an army colonel and his wife who share
an aura of superiority enter the narrator s office, requesting to view the Hurty estate. The man

the world enter Canada each year 1, as opposed to the 2000 that go to Iceland.2 People migrate
seeking a better life and for more opportunities. Not all places can provide what people want or

Going into unfamiliar lands, often not even knowing the language is very stressful on the mind.
With no one to guide you, no one to talk to, and no one to share your thoughts with it will most
definitely cause loneliness. This loneliness will discourage the immigrant from even putting all
their effort in striving in this new life. This is all part of what an emotional barrier is. Before even
leaving their country, a person will most definitely think about their family. If they know they
cannot bring the people they care about most, it will reduce your willingness to move. Not only is
loneliness the only part of the emotional barrier, frustration is also included. The whole migration
/immigration process is hard. Having your whole fate in your government s hands, knowing they
could deny or stop you from migrating at any moment. That itself could cause anyone emotional
stress. People become extremely attached to those closest to them and even their homes. Having to

Heroes As A Hero, And The Tragic Hero In Literature
Heroes still exist
Throughout history, stories have been passed down from generation to generation of heroes that
display incredible inspiring characteristics. From Greek mythology of Hercules, to bedtime stories
of princes slaying dragons, the concept of heroes has captivated society. Heroes are shown to go on
a journey and to be altruistic, courageous, tenacious and have integrity. Although the category of
heroes is wide, three main ones exist that are portrayed in literature; archetypal heroes, anti heroes
and tragic heroes. Archetypal heroes are the typical heroes represented in texts; they go through a
typical hero journey and are able to show bravery in the face of hardship. An anti hero is a main
character in a text that has noticeable flaws yet possesses heroic qualities. Lastly, a tragic hero
typically starts off as an archetypal hero yet has one major flaw that leads to the demise. Heroes
within literature still exist and have laid the bench mark for humanity. Humanity is positioned to be
inspired by heroes as we are always striving to achieve better and by having archetypal heroes,
human have something to aim for.
Archetypal heroes are the stock standard hero that face adversity with daring and courageous
heroism. They stand up for what it right by protecting and defending innocents from the injustice
and corruption in the world. Archetypal heroes are portrayed as honourable people who are the best

Video Gaming And Its Impact On Society
Over the years, video gaming has become more and more popular and has started to become
something integrated in with society instead of being cast out of it. It has breached the
generational gap, joining the ranks of sports, movies, and other activities that people of all ages
can enjoy. Speaking of sports, gaming has spread its wings there as well, officially being dubbed
esports or electronic sports, gathering players from all over the globe and competing for trophies
and cash prizes. Two of the most popular esports are League of Legends, League for short, and
Smite. However, being similar games, many people claim that there is no differencebetween them,
stating that one ripped of the other and that the other is inferior in some way. However, just like
football and rugby, while they may look identical to anyone looking in from the outside, anyone
who has participated in both games for a decent time will tell you that they are drastically different
in gameplay, gamefeel, and design aspects. Before we compare the two of these games, we will
briefly go over what they are. Both League and Smite are MOBA s or Multiplayer Online Battle
Arena. Just like there are certain things that identify a car as a car and not, let s say, a toaster,
there are certain aspects that most MOBA games follow. In each game, there are two teams with a
predetermined number of players on each side. The goal of the game is to destroy the opponent s

1.Descriptive Essay Nothing But Personality It was my first day at the school, I got into the
building where I was going to live. My eyes searched carefully from the door of one bedroom to
that of another for my name which ought to have been pasted on the door of one of these
bedrooms. At last I found it. On stepping into the bedroom I found there was already a student
who was making her bed, She was thin, short and black skinned. Her hair looked like a bundle of
straw. Her dirty clothes and lusterless eyes clearly indicated that she had a long journey. Her
clothes were made of cheap cloth. Her coat was too short, and the legs of her trousers were too
loose. She wore a pair of unfashionable rubber shoes. And all her looks made me feel that she
did not look like a smart girl. A yokel, I concluded. The second she spoke, her accent told me that
she was from the south. May I help you get your luggage from the office?
I did not decline her
help because I really needed it. She was quick in movement. She walked out of the room and was
soon far ahead of me in the corridor. A nice girl, I said to myself. I will make friends with her. I
hurried and caught up with her. Sometimes outlook does not mean anything about personality.

It was not until June 26th, 2015 that same sex marriage was no longer against the law in the

He blamed this divisiveness on those who believe that skin color and gender should entitle certain
groups of people to some benefits while denying them from other for no reason but racial
preferences:
Do we not believe it was divisive when those from an earlier period said slavery was immoral?
Was it not divisive when our nation s people fought among themselves over this very issue? Was it
not divisive when we sent troops into Montgomery and Selma, Alabama to protect the rights of
people like Rosa Parks and James Meredith to ensure their right to sit wherever they wanted on a
bus and to attend a college that wasn t segregated?
Yes, those were divisive times. But the seeds of division are not planted by those of us who seek
to eliminate racial and ethnic preferences; they are planted by those who believe that our skin
color and gender and how we spell our last names should entitle us to the harvest of diversity ―
college admission, government employment, and contracts. (Connerly 5)

Challenges to the UK Health Care System Essay
Introduction In line with the majority of other developed countries, the United Kingdom (UK) has
offered its citizens a universal health care system that is free at the point of service. Funded
primarily by taxation, the system is popular and efficient. However, along with most other health
care systems around the world, it faces a series of challenges if it is to maintain viability, in the
twenty first century. These issues include; long waiting times, an aging population, funding
challenges and the increasing cost of technology. History of Health Care in the UK The UK is a

It also monitors the quality of services provided and develops new policies. The performance of
the NHS is also monitored by the Health Care Commission, an independent executive agency
that performs annual reviews and ratings, and investigates complaints. According to Johnson and
Stoskopf (2008) there are a number of dimensions for measuring health care systems. The three
most frequent include: population health measures, system efficiency measures, and patient
perceptions (p.74). Other clinical measurements commonly used include infant mortality rates
and life expectancy. The UK has an infant mortality rate of 4.93 deaths per 1,000 live births, and
an average life expectancy of 78.85 years. Funding for the NHS is a combination of private and
public sources. All legal UK residents have access to the NHS and pay a payroll tax, which
equates approximately to 10% of earnings. Although health care provided by the NHS is largely
free, there are fees for certain services such as prescriptions, dental and optician services, which
are paid by all citizens who are working and make more than minimum wage. Recent Reforms In
2000, an effort was made by the UK government to resolve certain inequalities that had developed
within the NHS by releasing the NHS Plan of 2000. This plan greatly increased spending on
employee pay, infrastructure, and access to services. Despite almost doubling spending in a ten

Democracy As A Best Solution, And Underlying Capitalist...
Democracy has morphed in the face of time due to exterior forces which in turn have impacted the
understanding of what democracy in action should look like. Technology, education, religious
decay and rise, and many other facets of modern life have overwhelmed the understanding of what
democracy is. Simply engaging with the concept of democracyis in itself an acceptance of values
and assumptions about what governments, and many times economies, should look like. But this
paper hardly allows for alternative approach, so the mindset and concepts proposed are a result of
the acceptance of western understandings of governance, the natural arrival of democracy as a best
solution, and underlying capitalist forces which populates democracy at its core, from Locke to the
American founding fathers.
So the question becomes what democracy actually looks like in the real world. For as lofty or
revolutionary as the founders might have been in their goals, American democracy, now and
then, has never been as good as what it looks on paper. The evolutional lens of democracy is then
one of both how one arrives at governance and what does democracy stand for. Is it having
elections, which might or might not be free in nature? Is it torturing and discriminating against its
own citizens? Bending to the popular will of the majority? Protecting minorities? Seeing all as
equal in the eyes of the law? Is it none of the above? This really becomes then a question of the
cause and consequences of

A Comparison Of White Heat And The Godfather
Almost as soon as the gangster film genre was introduced, countless outside forces began to
influence how its films were made. A large influence was the Production Code Administration,
which served as the official watchdog of the industry by setting rules for production companies and
their films (Friedman 407). Since the PCA often called for gangster protagonists to be killed under
violent and humiliating circumstances so their criminal lifestyle could not be glorified, the
archetypal plot of the gangster filmgenre easily shaped itself around the gangsters rise and fall
(Friedman 416). However, over time, the circumstances in how this plot line can be depicted has

The film follows the story of Michael Corleone, as he becomes further and further involved in a
life of crime. While the film does depict Corleone s rise to power, the gangster s downfall is not
portrayed in the same manner as other films of years prior. The Godfather begins with Corleone
as an outsider to the criminal lifestyle, but as it continues, the character takes a turn towards the
nefarious, at one point even stating, Where does it say you can t kill a cop? (The Godfather).
Though the character s actions are initially motivated by the desire to protect his family, the end
of the film indicates that Corleone has placed his life of crime above the sacred element of family
he initially set out to protect. In the final minutes of the film, Corleone shamelessly lies to his wife
before a door is symbolically shut to block her out, demonstrating a new take on the traditional fall,

Summary Of Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven
The long and often dark history between the white man and their co inhabitants, the Native
Americans has been recognized on a global stage since the very first interaction between the two
groups. Although several hundred years has passed and the two populations may not be chasing
one another down on horseback, a fruitful relationship still does not exist. This poor relationship is
a focal point of Sherman Alexie, a Spokane tribe member, in his story, The Lone Rangerand Tonto
Fistfight in Heaven. Through the interactions and events of his Native American character, Victor,
Alexie shows the isolation of Native Americans due to this tension that underlies the relationship
between Native Americans and mainstreamAmerican society. America as a country praises the
concepts of equality and unification, which are at the roots of the constitution. However, from the
very beginning of Alexie s story the reader is submerged into the tension ridden relationship
between Native Americans and the white American when Victor, who is a Native American living
in Seattle after leaving his reservation, enters the 7 11 late at night. As soon as victor enters the
store he can tell that the clerk, who is white, becomes nervous due to his dark skin (80). Although
the clerk never directly states that the presence of Victor made him uneasy and fearful of a crime
being committed, his body language, which Victor could read, was all that was needed to fabricate
a division between the two. Not

Coleman Hawkins Essay
Coleman Hawkins
I think he was the most interesting jazz musician I ve ever seen in my life. He just looked so
authoritative . . . I said, Well, that s what I want to do when I grow up. (DeVeaux, 35) Cannonball
Adderley said these words when he first saw Coleman Hawkins with the Fletcher Henderson band
at the City Auditorium in Tampa, Florida. Just as Hawkins influenced one of the greatest alto
players in history, he has influenced many people to become phenomenal saxophone players. Lester
Young and Sonny Rollins both give tribute to Coleman Hawkins as being the proliferator of the
tenor saxophone as a jazz instrument. (Kernfeld, 506) Hawkins, unfortunately, is labeled as a swing
musician though; and while he did begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the time he was twelve he was already being paid to perform at school dances. He then went
to high school in Chicago for, at most, one year before dropping out to attend Washburn College

harmonies and composition; which would prove to be of utmost importance to him and his
career in later life. At seventeen, Hawk got his first regular gig in the spring of 1921 playing in
the orchestra for the 12th Street Theater in Kansas City. That very summer, Mamie Smith and
the Jazz Hounds performed at the theater Hawkins was working. After hearing Bean play,
Mamie Smith offered him a job touring with her group. By March of 1922, the Jazz Hounds,
now with Hawkins, were playing in New York at the Garden of Joy. Shortly afterwards, he
appeared on his first recording with the group. Although his contributions are hardly notable
throughout most of the album, he did get a reasonable solo with the tune, I m Gonna Get You.
Hawkins and the Jazz Hounds toured across the country reaching out to California, playing in the
musical revue, Struttin Along. The Jazz Hounds act was a mix of vaudeville and blues, as were
most primarily African American groups in the twenties.(Sadie, 322) Hawkins role was a cross of
the two styles in which he would slap tongue his saxophone while lying on his back with his feet in

In 1962, General William Westmoreland, as part of the battle plan for Vietnam known as MACV,
ordered the establishment of a series of interconnected military bases in the demilitarized zone
between North and South Vietnam. The bases were intended to serve as a barrier to the
infiltration of North Vietnamese troops into South Vietnam. The Village of Khe Sanh was
converted into one of these bases in 1962. Khe Sanh was initially a U.S. Special Forces outpost of
the Civilian Irregular Defense Groups, a group whose purpose was to protect the locals, to keep

In the spring of 1967, the North Vietnamese army, also known as PAVN, changed tactics. They
decided to attempt to open up a new battlefield along the South Vietnamese border in order to
lure U.S. forces into an environment favorable to the North Vietnamese. They planned to use
guerilla tactics to ambush the American troops and inflict heavy losses. In accordance with this
strategy the PAVN sent a reinforced regiment to the Khe Sanh area. The regiment consisted of
the 95C Regiment, 325 Division, plus a battalion from the division s 18C Regiment. (Willbanks

A U.S. marine patrol was ambushed on one of the hills surrounding Khe Sanh. When a rescue
patrol was dispatched to retrieve the ambushed marines, they suffered heavy losses due to their
M16 rifles jamming en masse. When news of this accident was relayed to Congress it sparked a
wave of congressional hearings and army modifications to improve the reliability of the M16.
Between the end of April and beginning of May, there were several more skirmishes that the U.S.
Marines initiated on the hills occupied by the PAVN. These skirmishes became known as the Hill
Fights. The Hill Fights mostly consisted of hand to hand fighting that resulted in the destruction of
an entire PAVN regiment and a massive artillery emplacement. The victories did not come without a
cost. The battles ended with 160 marine casualties and 700

Today, marketing has become an indispensible tool to promote any business. Without following
any advertising strategy, it is impossible for a company to stand for a long time. Personalized

Why Vietnam Invaded Vietnam
To commence, I decided to peruse historical novels associating with the Cambodian Vietnamese
Conflict. The Martin Luther King Jr. library was the only library I could think that held
numerous, historical chronicles. Primarily, I strived to find a specific book called Why Vietnam
Invaded Cambodia: Political Culture and the Causes of War by Stephen J. Morris. By quickly
examining the book on the Internet, this book was perfect for my topic; the title of the book
was even a giveaway. However, the library lost the novel; I looked everywhere on the shelf and
came up with nothing. So I had to improvise to find similar books, I found two novels which

Thailand because they did not want to more exposure to Socialism. Numerous countries felt
threatened by the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia; Thailand authorized for Khmer Rouge

alliance. In 1981, the U.S. Secretary of State, Alexander Haig, condemned Vietnam and the Soviet
Union of using chemical weapons against Democratic Kampuchea; which violates the 1925 Geneva

numerous losses and withdrawn the troops. Within Cambodia, there have been multiple attempts to
overthrow the new government. Politicians, including Son Sann and Khieu Samphan, and King

The Corrupting Influence Of Corporations On Politics
The Corrupting Influence of Corporations on our Politics
As one of the very first political bosses of the modern era once said, There are two things that are
important in politics. The first is money, and I can t remember the second (Bartlett, 2009). Even
president elect Donald Trump once said in 2015, I gave to many people...When I need something

People can express their opinion by giving money to some organization or even a political
candidate in order to further their own ideas. Sometimes this medium is the only one where the
feel their voice is actually heard. Therefore, it is logical for people to be allowed to donate to any
organization that they believe shares their deeply held convictions. But contrary to the decision of
Supreme Court in the Citizens United case that Spending is speech, and is therefore protected by
the Constitution even if the speaker is a corporation, corporations are not citizens which should be
protected under the constitution (Dunbar, 2012). They are large entities that are made up of
potentially thousands that could not possibly share all of the same beliefs. Therefore, corporations
should not be allowed to give unlimited sums of money to organizations that then perform
electioneering communications ads that advocate for a candidate s election or defeat (Epstein,
2015). This money is likely coming from the top executives only and does not represent every
single employee or shareholder. This type of donation labels every employee from a corporation as
supporting the recipient of the donation, but that could never be true in a corporation of any
substantial size. This legalization of corruption can be traced back to two landmark Supreme Court
cases: First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti and Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission

Cahokia Essay
9/24/2010
Cahokia Essay As Indian groups started to settle in the Mississippi floodplain, their cultures and
political systems began to intertwine, creating a complex sociopolitical structure (Page, 70). The
largest polity to arise out of this area, known as the American Bottom, was Cahokia. At its height,
it resembled a city, extending over five square miles, mounds and structures that towered over
smaller dwellings, and a population, that some believe to have been the largest, north of Mexico,
for its time (Page, 70). Estimates predict several thousand lived at the site of Cahokia, many of
them elites, whose particular talents or skills, earned them the privileged title (Pauketat). Beyond its
boundaries were smaller groups and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Page suggests this was likely the case, Pauketat suggests that this kind of easy reasoning
discredits the people of the American Bottom as having any real social or political order that could
have caused fractionalization. In looking at the economic and political structure of Cahokia and the
surrounding floodplain, it can be gathered that their disappearance was not simply due to an
environmental phenomenon, but rather because of the very repercussions in seeking centralization.
Page also describes the social stratification and the economic network in very vague terms. He
makes the relationship based on the prestige goods economy seem as though it was a very casual
relationship. Pauketat s piece describes, in very particular detail, that the system that arose from the
overlapping communities of the floodplain was highly organized on a social, economic, political,
and religious level. While Page gives little attention to the importance of this type of economy,
Pauketat shows that Cahokia was an incredibly interdependent society. If one of the sections of
society abandoned their obligations within the system, the whole society would be a stake, because
of the complexity and delicacy of the system. This, was indeed, what happened to the peoples of
Cahokia and the American Bottom.

Analysis Of Snow Falling On Cedars
In Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson Kabuo Miyamoto is being charged with the
murder of a local fisherman. This novel starts with Kabuo s trial, The accused man, Kabuo
Miyamoto, sat proudly upright with a rigid grace, his palms placed softly on the defendant s
table the posture of a man who has detached himself insofar as this is possible at his own trial
(3). The use of the word proudly makes me already believe that Kabuo is the one to blame for
the murder because he is sitting up straight which shows confidence. Kabuo holds an
emotionless expression which makes me think of a killer because they usually would not hold
any guilt in their face. Putting myself in Kabuo s position and I realized that he is a very strong
man because he had to keep himself emotionless and if that were me, I would have been terrified
to be there especially since during that time period Japanese people were being discriminated. The
use of the word accused is used again to describe Kabuo, The accusedman, Kabuo Miyamoto,
leaned to his right... (28). The author uses the word accused to let us know that Kabuo might be
the killer or he might not be. This helps us to not be biased when we read all of the evidence that
shows he is guilty. Hatsue and Ishmael were in loveuntil she realized they could never truly be

Advocates have an ethical responsibility not to deceive their audiences or other arguers by using

The Application Of The Patent System
Intellectual Property Midterm
Question #2
The core purpose of the patent system is to incentivize innovation but the current system often has
the opposite effect. Patents give inventors monopolies over their inventions for a period of time in
order to allow inventors to recoup the costs of research and development ( R D ) and to generate
profits that reward inventors efforts, encouraging future investment. In exchange, patentees dedicate
their inventions to the public domain once their patents expire. The traditional model of patent
licensing, whereby a company pays a patent owner to license an invention that a company
legitimately uses has been appropriated by non practicing entities ( patent trolls ) and aggressive
patent holders that initiate frivolous lawsuits. Patent trolls often purchase patents from bankrupt
companies, for the sole purpose of extorting licensing revenues from organizations that are actually
creating new products.
Patent examiners increasingly grant overly broad, obvious, and non novel patents particularly in
high technology industries. The massive increase in U.S. patent awards in the past few decades has
not been associated with more rapid economic growth, largely because many of the patents issued
are for advances of marginal value, which slows high quality development and rollout by enabling
patent trolling. Some companies aggressively assert their patent portfolios to prevent competitors
from entering the market. Small companies are

Cardiovascular Endurance
I did the 1 mile walk and my time was 17 minutes and 26 seconds. My heart rate at the end of my
walk was 100 bpm. My VO2 max was a 48.72 and for my people are around my age that just ranked
in the category of just good.
I was not able to perform the 3 minute step test because of medical reasons.
The benefits of the step test would be that there is not a lot of energy being exerted by the
participants. Unlike running, stepping comes natural making this test less challenging people. The
people who would benefit most from the step test would be the people who aren t too physically
active in their daily lives and people coming back from a lower extremity injury.
The benefit of the run or walk test is that you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personality Of Will
Did you know that there are more than 132,500 quadriplegics in the United States alone? In the
novel Me Before You, Will suffers the struggle that a quadriplegic must face on a daily basis.
Will got paralyzed by being hit by a motorcycle while crossing the street, and ever since that day
has been depressed and wanting to demise. That s where his altruistic caregiver, Louise, plays a
huge role in trying to lift Wills spirit and urge to live. There are three objects essential to knowing
the personality of Will: a wheelchair, a television, and a scissors.
The first important object that helps to better understand Will is a wheelchair. Ever since the
accident, Will has been suspended in a wheelchair. After the accident, Will has given up on
everything: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since Will has been hiding behind his hair and scruffy facial hair, Louise has wanted to cut it:
You could cut your hair. It makes you look like some kind of vagrant (Moyes 96). By referring to
Will as a vagrant, Louise convinces Will to finally cut his hair. By doing so, Will is revealed in a
way Louise never really understood. There is a scar on his forehead that she never knew about.
The cutting of Will s hair also made him see the world in a different light, literally. Instead of being
stuck behind a dark shadow of hair, Will is able to see more light. These small differences make
a big difference when it comes down to if he chooses to commit suicide or not. The scissors itself
is a temptation to Will. If he gets his hands on it, he could potentially kill himself. The scissors is a
devil living on earthп Љ (Personification).By allowing Louise to cut his hair, Will is taking a step
in the right direction. He is showing trust in someone when he has all the reasons not to, after the
incident. For these reasons, a scissors is necessary for the plot of the story to make sense.
Will is the opposite of an open book. He is hard to understand, but with the three important objects,
the reader can get a better understanding of Will. The dull, black wheelchair represents the the new
transportation he has. The television reflects a better future for Will. Finally,

Essay On Don Quixote
Don Quixote is considered the most influential work of literature. It has been around for more
than four hundred years. It is still being read and it is a work that is dear to many people s hearts.
The story is mainly about an older individual named Alonso Quixana who lives in La Mancha in
central Spain. After, he read thousands of book about knights he started to go insane and decides to
change his name to Don Quixote. So, when he finished all his books he started to believe that he
was one. In this piece Don Quixote experiences love, morality, law, justice and much more. But,
reality and fantasy are two major points in this story. This story is very much related in the 21st
century because in society today people who have big aspirations... Show more content on

Especially those who grew up not knowing how there life would turn out to be. A conflict that
has been going around in today s world is Dreamers those who have immigrant parents that were
brought to the United States in order to have a better life. These people s dreams have been
ruining more and more each day because there is little to no hope left in achieving those goals.
An impactful quote that was said in Don Quixote was, I do know who I am, and who is in my
depth has nothing to do with your ideas and with your expectations about me (book) What this
quote is trying to tell it s audience is that sometimes our highest most outrageous goals sometimes
seem untouchable and we get scared when other see us trying to reach that goal. The Scientific
Journal of Humanistic Studies states, Being something, someone, having an established identity is
comfortable, but becoming someone is risky (Cun 3). Having a dream isn t unhealthy or
dangerous nor is being imaginative either. But, the population tends to believe that if you are an
imaginative person you are going insane. Which is not the case, this is the reason why Don
Quixote de la Mancha became such a modern character. He was someone who desired to become
someone, and to be able to metamorphose the world in a more favorable way. At the time this book
was written reality and fantasy were two completely opposite terms, no one had ever thought to put
those two together. Cervantes sure made a bold

Comparison Of G Block And H Block Sat A Piece Of...
Between G Block and H Block sat a piece of corrugated iron tubing. Soggy leaves and bark were
smeared along the outside of it. Inside was dry earth and cold silver. That was where we went,
Del and I. I thought it looked like the poor man s version of a piece of playground equipment.
From a playground from not too far away, on the other side of the river bank away, closer to the
worst kind of civilisation. A human hamster wheel that was what it was called. When a person
lies inside and there s light at either ends of the tunnel and you have to peddle fast with your
hands and feet, all the way round in a cylindrical loop. Not so easy to stop. Not suitable for
children under four that s what the sign would say, even when it was smeared with a streak of
blue from a can of spray paint. The four year olds would go in and fall out and break an arm over
the course of an afternoon play session. A council inspector in a striped high visibility vest
would arrive to look over the equipment. Then they would walk past us and look up at the
abandoned buildings of Briar Hills High School and shake their head at the eyesore. They would
probably write some notes too. One of us would go outside just to burst a tyre on their car. The
council always parked in the same place marked with a faded yellow line. It was right in front of
the barrier which looked like a brittle and old fence to them but to us it meant we could hide and
forget. When they parked near the barrier it was too close.

The Tundra Research Paper
The boime I m going to do my report on is the tundra. The tundra is located near the north and
south poles of the Earth. Two examples are the top of Russia and Greenland, but there are many
more. It is an cold and barren place. Places that have civilization have a couple towns every now
and then but, most of it is large plains of snow. The whole entire year is very cold. Most of the
time the temperatures drop to below freezing. Almost every day it snows except for during the
summer. You have to stay inside if it is windy, because there are flakes of snow and ice the can
sting and scratch your skin. The soil there is very moist, because the snow on top of it melts into
the ground. Five common plants in the Tundra are the Diamond leaf

  • 2. Martin Luther Splintering Of Religion Divine grace was a particularly prominent concern in sixteenth century Europe, it prompted the splintering of Christendom and was therefore responsible in large part for the subsequent violence. With the extensive conflict motivated by debates over the delivery of divine grace, it comes as no surprise that leading figures of the era harbored vastly differing opinions on the subject. Martin Luther, John Fisher, and Hans Staden, drawing from the exact same source material, came to drastically different conclusions regarding the bestowment, acceptance, and discovery of divine grace. Martin Luther s personal interpretation of divine grace differed so greatly from that of other christians that it facilitated the splintering of a religion. Luther s influential interpretation was formed on the basis of two claims made by St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans. First, a justified Christian lives by faith alone, and second Christ is the end and the fulfillment of all commandments for those who believe in Him, (Luther 22). Luther interpreted St. Paul s words to mean that divine grace is bestowed through faith, that Faith... will abundantly justify those who have it, such that they require nothing more to be righteous and pious, (Luther 22). The idea of being saved through nothing but faith resonated with Luther, a man obsessed with his own repentance, to the point that he visited confession several times daily (Smith). The inherent nature of faith, as Luther viewed it, was quite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The name immediately brings to mind images of a beautiful lush tropical island of enchantment. The name Puerto Rico usually does not conjure the image of Taino Indians or African slaves, yet these populations have great importance in laying the foundation for the notion of identity of Puerto Ricans. In contemporary debates of Puerto Rican identity, it is essential to examine the history of the island to determine the effects of Spanish colonialism on Puerto Rican identity. Juan Ponce de Leon, in search of gold, made the first effort to settle on the island in 1508. In the next twenty years, the Taino population became decimated while forced to labor in prospecting gold, a phase that ended in this time, succumbing to disease and a breakdown in their social network. An important implication of this initial occupation of the island by Spaniards is the imposition of the Spanish language. Because the Taino population could be counted in small amounts and Spanish had established their presence on the island by instilling their language as the only accepted language, in the name of Spain, a first storey was constructed in the notion of identity of the Puerto Rican. The Tainos had been moved out and taken over, the Spanish had moved in and started to let their culture infiltrate into that of the Taino, and now things were changing. Because the gold rush on the island lost its surge, the Spanish turned its attention to the agricultural success they could have with the island. However, as a result of their occupation, they lacked the labor force to effectively move an agricultural economy. In order to replenish the population and create a strong labor force, the Spanish took part in what others around Puerto Rico had begun to do, import cheap labor, namely African slaves. It shows how the circus treated the elephant if the elephant does not follow orders. Most circuses have elephants because they are the common animals in the circus which brings PETA to interview a former elephant keeper. Another former circus employee PETA interviews is Archele Hundley. She worked with Ringling Bros. as an animal trainer and quit after claiming to know what the animals go through with trainers. Hundley said, Ringling Bros. believes that if they can keep these animals afraid, they can keep them submissive. The circus harms the animals to help itself. Providing information from former employees gives credibility to PETA to tell the audience that the circus abused its animals. PETA is effective in many ways, although it s unreasonable by being unfair with involving an undercover investigation. In being unfair, Video footage shot during a PETA undercover investigation of Carson Barnes Circus showed Carson Barnes animal care director, Tim Frisco, as he viciously attacked, yelled and cursed at, and shocked endangered Asian elephants. • 10. Conflict Within Events And Leisure Organisations Essay Conflict can be defined in various ways and has no single clear meaning. A broad definition of conflict is a serious disagreement or argument that generally continues for a long period of time, however according to Huczynski and Buchanan (2010) no conflict exists if two or more parties are not aware of any conflict. In terms of conflict within events and leisure organisations, De Dre and Beersma (2005) say that conflict is best viewed as a process that begins when an individual or group perceives differences and opposition between him/herself and another individual or group about interests, believes or values that better to him or her. Within organisations, the managementof conflict greatly depends on the personality and characteristic of individual managers. It is not possible for all human begins to live in peace and harmony all the time (Martin, 2005, p.750), therefore conflict within the workplace is inevitable and can arise within events and leisure organisations for many reasons. Personal factors are the main factor contributing to conflict. Differences in values and beliefs can often create conflict, as individuals will have alterations about the underlying purpose of an organisation, and how each other should act toward one another and customers. Unique personalities can also create conflict as it can result in people struggling to get along with one another, and therefore a personality clash will occur (Rollinson, 2008, p.418). Democracy has morphed in the face of time due to exterior forces which in turn have impacted the understanding of what democracy in action should look like. Technology, education, religious decay and rise, and many other facets of modern life have overwhelmed the understanding of what democracy is. Simply engaging with the concept of democracyis in itself an acceptance of values and assumptions about what governments, and many times economies, should look like. But this paper hardly allows for alternative approach, so the mindset and concepts proposed are a result of the acceptance of western understandings of governance, the natural arrival of democracy as a best solution, and underlying capitalist forces which populates democracy at its core, from Locke to the American founding fathers. So the question becomes what democracy actually looks like in the real world. For as lofty or revolutionary as the founders might have been in their goals, American democracy, now and then, has never been as good as what it looks on paper. The evolutional lens of democracy is then one of both how one arrives at governance and what does democracy stand for. Is it having elections, which might or might not be free in nature? Is it torturing and discriminating against its own citizens? Bending to the popular will of the majority? Protecting minorities? Seeing all as equal in the eyes of the law? Is it none of the above? A large influence was the Production Code Administration, which served as the official watchdog of the industry by setting rules for production companies and their films (Friedman 407). Since the PCA often called for gangster protagonists to be killed under violent and humiliating circumstances so their criminal lifestyle could not be glorified, the archetypal plot of the gangster filmgenre easily shaped itself around the gangsters rise and fall (Friedman 416). However, over time, the circumstances in how this plot line can be depicted has been challenged as the genre has pushed into new territory. Although several hundred years has passed and the two populations may not be chasing one another down on horseback, a fruitful relationship still does not exist. This poor relationship is a focal point of Sherman Alexie, a Spokane tribe member, in his story, The Lone Rangerand Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. America as a country praises the concepts of equality and unification, which are at the roots of the constitution. However, from the very beginning of Alexie s story the reader is submerged into the tension ridden relationship between Native Americans and the white American when Victor, who is a Native American living in Seattle after leaving his reservation, enters the 7 11 late at night. As soon as victor enters the store he can tell that the clerk, who is white, becomes nervous due to his dark skin (80). Although the clerk never directly states that the presence of Victor made him uneasy and fearful of a crime being committed, his body language, which Victor could read, was all that was needed to fabricate a division between the two. Just as Hawkins influenced one of the greatest alto players in history, he has influenced many people to become phenomenal saxophone players. At its height, it resembled a city, extending over five square miles, mounds and structures that towered over smaller dwellings, and a population, that some believe to have been the largest, north of Mexico, for its time (Page, 70). While Page suggests this was likely the case, Pauketat suggests that this kind of easy reasoning discredits the people of the American Bottom as having any real social or political order that could have caused fractionalization. In looking at the economic and political structure of Cahokia and the surrounding floodplain, it can be gathered that their disappearance was not simply due to an environmental phenomenon, but rather because of the very repercussions in seeking centralization. Page also describes the social stratification and the economic network in very vague terms. He makes the relationship based on the prestige goods economy seem as though it was a very casual relationship. Pauketat s piece describes, in very particular detail, that the system that arose from the overlapping communities of the floodplain was highly organized on a social, economic, political, and religious level. While Page gives little attention to the importance of this type of economy, Pauketat shows that Cahokia was an incredibly interdependent society. If one of the sections of society abandoned their obligations within the system, the whole society would be a stake, because of the complexity and delicacy of the system. This, was indeed, what happened to the peoples of Cahokia and the American Bottom. Works Cited Page, Jake. In the hands of the Great Spirit: The 20,000 Year Hisotry of American ... • 39. The Application Of The Patent System Intellectual Property Midterm Question #2 The core purpose of the patent system is to incentivize innovation but the current system often has the opposite effect. Patents give inventors monopolies over their inventions for a period of time in order to allow inventors to recoup the costs of research and development ( R D ) and to generate profits that reward inventors efforts, encouraging future investment. In exchange, patentees dedicate their inventions to the public domain once their patents expire. The traditional model of patent licensing, whereby a company pays a patent owner to license an invention that a company legitimately uses has been appropriated by non practicing entities ( patent trolls ) and aggressive patent holders that initiate frivolous lawsuits. Patent trolls often purchase patents from bankrupt companies, for the sole purpose of extorting licensing revenues from organizations that are actually creating new products. Patent examiners increasingly grant overly broad, obvious, and non novel patents particularly in high technology industries. The massive increase in U.S. patent awards in the past few decades has not been associated with more rapid economic growth, largely because many of the patents issued are for advances of marginal value, which slows high quality development and rollout by enabling patent trolling. Especially those who grew up not knowing how there life would turn out to be. A conflict that has been going around in today s world is Dreamers those who have immigrant parents that were brought to the United States in order to have a better life. These people s dreams have been ruining more and more each day because there is little to no hope left in achieving those goals. An impactful quote that was said in Don Quixote was, I do know who I am, and who is in my depth has nothing to do with your ideas and with your expectations about me (book) What this quote is trying to tell it s audience is that sometimes our highest most outrageous goals sometimes seem untouchable and we get scared when other see us trying to reach that goal. The Scientific Journal of Humanistic Studies states, Being something, someone, having an established identity is comfortable, but becoming someone is risky (Cun 3). • 45. Comparison Of G Block And H Block Sat A Piece Of... Between G Block and H Block sat a piece of corrugated iron tubing. Soggy leaves and bark were smeared along the outside of it. Inside was dry earth and cold silver. That was where we went, Del and I. I thought it looked like the poor man s version of a piece of playground equipment. From a playground from not too far away, on the other side of the river bank away, closer to the worst kind of civilisation. A human hamster wheel that was what it was called. When a person lies inside and there s light at either ends of the tunnel and you have to peddle fast with your hands and feet, all the way round in a cylindrical loop. Not so easy to stop. Not suitable for children under four that s what the sign would say, even when it was smeared with a streak of blue from a can of spray paint. The four year olds would go in and fall out and break an arm over the course of an afternoon play session. A council inspector in a striped high visibility vest would arrive to look over the equipment. Then they would walk past us and look up at the abandoned buildings of Briar Hills High School and shake their head at the eyesore. They would probably write some notes too. One of us would go outside just to burst a tyre on their car. The council always parked in the same place marked with a faded yellow line. It was right in front of the barrier which looked like a brittle and old fence to them but to us it meant we could hide and forget. When they parked near the barrier it was too close. ...
