Research Methods
Data
For this section of the research, it will be performed by using secondary data analysis with
longitudinal design and quantitative data. For the secondary data analysis, it will be using the National
Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 from the U.S Bureau of Labor statistics. Since this study focuses
on secondary data, the sampling procedures provided by the original data collectors was that in the
NLSY79 they have collected data from families who had their children between the 1980 s from the
year 2012. The assessment of the Survey is called HOME (Home Observation Measurement of the
Environment) which is the primary measure of the quality of a child s home environment that is

Children who were spanked by their mothers, were accepted to college by a percentage of 27.5%.
Additionally, children who were not spanked by their mothers received a higher percentage of children
who were not spanked by 72.5%, which makes a difference between both variables (Table 6). The
significance among being accepted to college and being spanked as a child is that there is a
significance between both relationships. In addition by having a Pearson chi square value of .528a,

Corporate Identity
Corporate identity the management of the process of change in the name/logo in the context of brands

identity, including identity signs, is crucial for companies to encourage positive attitudes in its
different target publics (Dowling, 1993; Van Riel Balmer, 1997), and may provide an important
competitive advantage (Simões, Dibb Fisk, 2005). The corporate name and logo are two essential

Furthermore, in low involvement situations, the affect attached to the identity signs may be one of the
few elements that differentiates the offer (Hoyer e Brown, 1990; Leong, 1993). Previous research
suggests consumers evaluation of the organization s logo directly influences their evaluation of the
organization (Schechter, 1993; Stafford et al., 2004). The probability of affect transfer depends on its
nature (positive or negative), on the intensity of affective reactions and on the way signs are associated
to products and organisations. Several authors refer that the name and logo should evoke the same
intended set of associations, and communicate one clear message (Durgee and Stuart, 1987; Keller
1993; Kopp et al., 1990; Vartorella, 1990). Semiotics literature suggests that this meaning can be
obtained through the analysis of the nuclear or consensual meaning evoked by the logo (Perrussia,
1988). Previous research shows that identity signs which elicit a shared set of associations are better
liked, transfer more positive affect to the organisation, and are better recognized than signs with an
ambiguous meaning (Henderson and Cote, 1998; Schecter, 1993). Finally, the less ambiguous the
organization s identity signs, the more likely its intended positioning will be shared across a

B4. Disaster Assessment and Planning Guide
The ages most affected by disasters are disabled, lower income, and the African American population.
The group has a lower attainment of education and lower economic status. African Americans have a
health tendency towards hypertension and cardiac issue that in time of disaster their medications may
become inaccessible or unaffordable and stress will be increased. There is a link on the emergency
preparedness site to register individuals with special needs. (Emergency Management of Linn County,
2011). The age range with the highest number of mentally disabled people is 21 64 which is about

The county was settled around 1838. The major city of Cedar Rapids continues to urban sprawl with
several communities sitting on the boundaries as bedroom communities. There is a mix of houses in
styles. The central area has houses built around pre 1940 and are two story or bungalow style with
detached garages. The yards are small and houses close together. These homes typically have window
air conditioners. As you move out from the center the houses change to ranch style around 1000 1200
square feet, with larger yards. Moving further out, the style changes to many different configurations
and various square footage. On the outside of the city are larger homes with larger yards.
The city has 96 park sites throughout and has ten outdoor and one indoor municipal pools for use.
Greene Square Park, in downtown Cedar Rapids, is undergoing a renovation that will be completed in

Anti-Stalking Case Study
Robert John Bardo became obsessed with the actress Rebecca Schaeffer in the 1980s. He attempted to
visit her on set at Burbank Studios while she was filming twice but was turned away by gate security
each time. After he saw her in Class Struggle in Beverly Hills, a movie in which her character was in
bed with a man, he was disgusted because in his eyes she had become just another Hollywood whore.
He made a deadly plan and set it in motion. He asked his brother to procure him a gun and obtained
her address from the Department of Motor Vehicles. One July morning he knocked on her door with a
copy of Catcher and the Rye. He introduced himself as her biggest fan and asked her to sign the book.

Stalking has been defined by J. Reid Meloy, recognized as the authority on stalking, as [Stalking is] an
abnormal or long term pattern of threat or harassment directed towards a specific individual (Bocij,
2004, p. 6). Pathé and Mullen define stalking as A constellation of behaviors in which one individual
inflicts on another repeated unwanted intrusions and communications (Mullen, Pathé, Purcell, 2000, p.
7). In general stalking can include several components: 1) an undesirable habit or conduct such as
following, spying, or making unwanted phone calls; 2) the target of these attentions, or a reasonable
person, would feel fear or a similar emotion such as distress, annoyance, or torment; and 3) there is a
sincere danger of harm to the target of the attentions (Nobles, Reyns, Fox, Fisher, 2014).
Cyberstalking has even less cohesion in its legal definition. Generally it includes the use of electronic
communication to do any of the following things in two on two or more occasions: communicating
with an individual after being asked to stop; harassing, annoying, or tormenting an individual; making
unwelcome sexual advances towards an individual; and threatening an individual with physical
violence (Reyns, 2012). It has also been defined

The Effect Of Visitor Interaction On Primate Species In Zoos
In the wild, interactions between humans and animals are often limited. In captivity, this dynamic is
altered as a result of humans being allowed to be in close proximity to the animals while they are on
display. Zoos, especially in Europe and North America, strive to educate the public about their animals
and the conservation efforts to help save them in the wild (Hosey, 2005). In order to ensure that
visitors leave the zoo feeling as if they can make a difference, visitors need to feel a connection with
the animals. A way in which this is done is to design exhibits that put the public closer to the animals.
By doing so, it is common that animals in captivity can be subject to interaction with the guests,
creating a potential for visitor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different populations have been seen reacting negatively, while others have reacted positively or
neutrally. In Wells (2005) it was suggested that crowd size had a negative impact on the gorillas at the
Belfast Zoological Gardens in Northern Ireland. The gorillas had increased aggression during large
crowd sizes and appeared less stressful during low visitor periods. However, some populations of
gorillas did not show an increase in undesirable behavior in relation to larger crowd size. In Kuhar
(2008) there were no significant findings that suggested crowd size played any role in the behavior of
the gorillas. In a study conducted by Ross and Lukas (2006) it was found that during crowds of high
density or low density alike, there were no significant differences in gorilla behavior. Interestingly, in
Wells (2006) the researchers suggest that some auditory stimulation, such as that from visitors, can be
a form of enrichment for the gorillas rather than a source of stress. Similarly, in Stoinski et al., (2012)
there were no significant effects of crowd size for some of the behaviors they analyzed. Other
behaviors they observed did change in relation to crowd size such as contact aggression and
undesirable behavior but those behaviors changes were not seen as significant and it is suggested that
crowds may affect some individuals and not

Jesse Owens 1913 1980 American track and field athlete Few athletes have transcended their sports to
become a symbol of an era as did Jesse Owens. Enduring a childhood marked by grinding poverty in
Alabama, Owens became a star athlete in high school after his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. His
achievements earned Owens several lucrative offers to attend college as a track and field athlete, and
he enrolled at Ohio State University in 1933. On May 25, 1935, Owens made national headlines for
setting five world records and tying another record at the Big Ten Intercollegiate Championships in

Athletic Success as a Teenager Owens enrolled in Cleveland s Fairmount Junior High School around
1927 and quickly attracted the attention of a mentor who would prove crucial in his future athletic
success. Charles Riley worked at the school as a physical education teacher and track and field coach
and immediately realized that Owens was a naturally gifted athlete who had not yet taken up serious
training. Riley started a rigorous training program for Owens in special morning sessions before
school. Within a year, Owens was running the 100 yard dash in eleven seconds and in 1928 he set two
world records for his age group in the high jump, at six feet, and the long jump, at twenty two feet,
eleven and three quarters inches. Under Riley s instruction to run as though the track were on fire,
Owens also improved his times on the track. Of the seventy nine races he entered in high school,
Owens won seventy five of them. Owens also formed a warm personal relationship off the track with
Riley, who continued to coach him after he entered East Technical High School in 1930. After Henry
Owens suffered a traffic accident in 1929 and experienced extended periods of unemployment in the
Great Depression, Riley s role as a surrogate father was especially important to the young athlete.

Halloween Night vs. Prom Night
Halloween Night vs. Prom Night Ghosts, princesses, superheroes, and so many other strange
characters are seen walking around during the night of October 31st, the night known as Halloween.
Halloween is the night most famously known for haunted houses, candy, black cats, witches and
ghosts. For one magical night a year, known as prom, teenagers get to feel and dress like princes and
princesses and to attend their first formal event before becoming an adult. For that night, tiaras, limos,
corsages, tuxedos and evening gowns are all the rage. Both nights are important nights when growing
up, and even though they are so different, they actually have some things in common. Halloween night
and prom are nights that have a similar, yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Halloween is the one night a year children or teenagers can dress up and act differently. They wear
costumes and get to be a different person or thing for the night. Even though prom is not celebrated on
the same date every year, it is still one night of dressing up. Teenagers get to dress up formally and
also act differently for the night. The attire is usually formal unless the prom has a certain theme that
calls for them to dress up in costumes. The purpose of both nights is about dressing up, but, the attire
is different for both events. The second point of comparison is that both are a night of social events.
Depending on how each family celebrates Halloween it can be a night for families to go out together
and trick or treat together, or the children can go out with a group of friends to go trick or treating.
Many costume parties are thrown to celebrate the night and there are many haunted houses to go
through with friends or family. Prom night is an important social dance event where teenagers in high
school get together with their friends before and after prom. Both boys and girls might get together
before prom to get ready together and then take pictures with friends and family. Before attending the
dance they go out to dinner with their friends and take a limo to the prom venue. Many parties are held
after the prom to continue the night s celebrations.

Maya Number 4 Essay
To many people and cultures, the topic of numbers may seem to have limited to a nonexistent
symbolic relationship or importance. Numbers seem to have the sole purpose to act in mathematics.
Many people would not consider a number to be the center of their actions or daily thoughts.
Regardless, the Maya people holds one number above all near and dear to its heart. The number four
in Maya culture and literature keeps recurring in many texts. The two primary examples of addressing
the importance of the number four can be seen in the sacred Popol Vuh and the popular play of the
Rabinal Achi. In a close analyzation of the number four, it can be confirmed that it holds great
influence on the Maya people. This can be stated because the number four can be seen in ... Show

two main warrior characters move in a west to east (and vice versa) direction. They always face the

then only move in a line from north to south (and vice versa) on each half of the stage. Thus, all four

The Theme Of Responsibility In Avi s Nothing But The Truth
Thesis: The author, Avi, shows two themes, truth and responsibility, throughout the novel. In Nothing
But the Truth, Avi makes sure that the reader does not forget these themes. Truth and responsibility are
major lessons that a child should know while growing up. This story shows that the truth can get out
of hand if you don t take responsibility for your actions. Philip Malloy is known as a good kid. He
doesn t act out in class, isn t mean to anyone, and gets pretty good grades except for Ms. Narwins
class. Therefore having a bad grade in her class means that he cannot try out for the track team. In a
conversation between Philip and his father, Philip blames his bad grade on the teacher and doesn t
want to share the truth. I saw your grades. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Responsibility is a big deal in this book. Philip could have avoided the media and the nation if he took
responsibility for his actions. Philip started humming the national anthem during morning
announcements. Everyday they say Please all rise and stand a respectful, silent attention for the
playing of our national anthem. This has been routine for years. During a conversation between Dr.
Palleni and Philip in the assistants principal s office shows that he could have owned up to his actions,
but decided to stand next to his decision. ...What do you say, Phil, you get up, go back there, and
apologize? To Miss Narwin. Say you ll follow rules. Than, as far as I m concerned, we forget it.
Nothing on your record. What do you say? ... She s wrong. That s all. She s wrong. No way I m
apologizing (61). This conversation proves that Philip did stand up for himself, but in the wrong way.
He was humming the national anthem loudly, but told the principal he was humming to himself. One
final example of responsibility is when Dr. Palleni was being interviewed by Ms. Stewart and would
refuse to talk about his actions. You d didn t inform your superior, or you didn t suspend the boy for
singing The Star Spangled Banner ? Which? I am simply trying to get my facts straight. Dr. Palleni?
Are you still there? I don t wish to talk to you. No comment? No comment. But you ve got your facts
all wrong (93).

The Characters Of Calpurnia As A Mockingbird
What does it take to be considered a mother? Does it take courage? Strength? Love? Or are you only a
mother if you give birth to a child or officially adopt a child? Being there for someone emotionally,
mentally, and physically are the characteristics of a good mother. A woman or even a man can take the
role of being a protector and guardian of someone who was not necessarily born into or chosen for
their family. Calpurnia does an excellent job of taking the role as Jem and Scout s motherly figure.
She has rules and shows the kids discipline, teaches them life lessons and supports and comforts them
as they grow up. Calpurnia is Jem and Scout s African American cook who has been with their family
since before their mother died. Scout said that She had been with us ever since Jem was born, and I
had felt her tyrannical presence as long as I could remember. Our mother died when I was two, so I
never felt her absence (6). Calpurnia displays motherly actions by disciplining Jem and Scout just like
they were her own kids. Her hand was as wide as a bed slat and twice as hard (6) explained Scout.
This quote signifies that Scout knows how her hand feels and she was getting a physical punishment.
Calpurnia tends to discipline Scout more than Jem because Scout acts out and is the worst behaved
child of the siblings. She was ordering me out of the kitchen, asking me why I couldn t behave as well
as Jem when she knew he was older, and calling me home when I wasn t ready to come (6) Scout
states. Scout and Calpurnia s relationship is just like a mother and daughter relationship because they
fight and make up and Calpurnia disciplines Scout and Scout gets mad at her. Page 75 Chapter 3 states
Calpurnia bent down and kissed me. I ran along, wondering what had come over her. She had wanted
to make up with me, that was it. She had always been too hard on me, she had at last seen the error of
her fractious ways, she was sorry and too stubborn to say so. Calpurnia also accepts and claims them
as her own children because on page 118 she said, I don t want anybody sayin I don t look after my
children. Calpurnia s discipline is tough, but it relates back to the values and lessons that she wants to
teach her children.

Life Span Development and Personality
Abraham Maslow was born April 1, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York. Abraham Maslow grew up in
Brooklyn, New York, the first of seven children born to his Jewish parents who emigrated from
Russia. His parents were uneducated, but they insisted that he study law. Maslow later described his
early childhood as unhappy and lonely, and he spent much of his time in the library immersed in
books. At first, Abraham acceded to their wishes and enrolled in the City College of New York
(CCNY). However, after three semesters, he transferred to Cornell University then back to CCNY.

For example, in their extensive review of research that is dependent on Maslow s theory, Wabha and
Bridwell (1976) found little evidence for the ranking of needs that Maslow described, or even for the
existence of a definite hierarchy at all. Some have argued that Maslow was unconsciously naive about
elitist elements in his theories. As one critic poses, What real individuals, living in what real societies,
working at what real jobs, and earning what real income have any chance at all of becoming self
actualizers?
Some behaviorists believe that self actualization is a difficult concept for researchers to operationalize,
and this in turn makes it difficult to test Maslow s theory. Even if self actualization is a useful concept,
some contend that there is no proof that every individual has this capacity or even the goal to achieve
it. In 1967, Abraham Maslow was named humanist of the year by the American Humanist Association.
That same year he was elected president of the American Psychological Association. Maslow played a
major role in organizing both the Journal of Humanistic Psychology and the Journal of Transpersonal
Psychology. In 1969, Abraham Maslow, Stanislav Grof and Anthony Sutich were the initiators behind
the publication of the first issue of the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology.

Ground Water Contamination and Household Response in...
There are two sources of drinking water, surface water and ground water and they are each managed,
monitored and regulated differently even though the actual water systems are interrelated and
integrated. The state of Missouri has historically had plenty of high quality fresh water sources; in the
northern half of the state most of the drinking water comes from surface water while the majority of
the southern population gets water from underground aquifers (Missouri Department of Natural
Resources, 2010). The Missouri River and its alluvium wells provide more than half of the state s
residents with drinking water as most of the urban centers in the state are located along its course.

The contamination was ultimately found to be Escherichia coli 0157:H7 commonly referred to as E.
coli or EC0157. Investigations by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Missouri
state and county public health departments determined the most probable source of contamination was
leakage of sewage near broken water main lines that then entered the drinking water distribution
system (Swerdlow et al, 1992). According to the report by Swerdlow et al (1992), this particular
incident had the distinction of being not only the largest incidence of EC0157 infection at that time but
also the first due to a multiple resistant organism, and the first documented to be transmitted by water
(Swerdlow et al, 1992, p. 818). Testing of water taken directly from the wells in Cabool revealed the
water contamination did not occur in the ground water itself but was initiated in and then distributed
via the water supply system. The Cabool contamination could have been prevented had the town
followed the recommended standard procedure of hyperchlorination immediately after water line
breaks or repairs (Swerdlow et el, 1992). It is common for water systems to have small leaks but they
usually do not result in contamination as the positive flow of water pressure prevents inward
infiltration of the system but when there are breaks in the lines and pressure is lost, contamination can
flow back into the water lines.

The Boom Of The Music In The 90 s
The music has the power to connect different people in groups and it reflects how well the society is
and which are the biggest problems in our daily lives. For this, the musical themes have defined the
last decades with the main social, political and economic topics. The main purpose of this essay is to

Can the Bombing of Dresden Be Justified
Can the bombing of Dresden be justified?
Dresden was Germanys 7th largest city at the time of the war. Historically, Dresden had been northern
Germany s cultural centre a city filled with museums and historic buildings. The Frauenkirche
Cathedral was one of the world s famous buildings. Dresden was also an extremely important
industrial area, which was something that the allies really did not want, but before February 1945
Dresden was a peaceful country and there were not any threats from the British yet., Many refugees
had fled to Dresden from the east because of the Soviet Union s attack; therefore making it harder to
find the actual figure of people who died. At 10 p.m. on Tuesday 13 February 1945, the first British

Otherwise we shall come into control of an utterly ruined land. by Winston Churchill, 28 march 1945.
Although there are other reasons that come through that make the bombing of Dresden seem like an
unnecessary part of the war effort. In the first place Britain did not even start the war. In 1919 Ital,
England, France, and U.S came to an agreement that Germany had to pay for all the damage they did
in the First World War. When Hitler heard of this he started organising an army, air force and started
making allies, like Mussillon s Italy. Six months later Hitler breaks the treaty and starts another war.
Germany withdrew from the Geneva disarmament conference, which meant they refused to support a
British proposal that air bombing be banned. Dresden was also a very important rail centre for moving
troops, concentration camp prisoners and war material but it would be no good if the allies destroyed
the buildings and factories, because if there will be, still human s; they can rebuild it. The war
factories of Dresden employed around 10,000 people, many of which lived in the very centre of the
city.
The Russians were asking for help from Britain and the u.s.a because Dresden was too close to the
Russian front line. The number of people that died shows clearly how the Nazi s failed to provide air
raid shelter. People

Changes in Africa from 500 C.E to 1500C.E
The role of religion has changed over time in West Africa from the migration of Islam bringing its new
faith, rituals, and establishment of a greater connection with the outside world through trade and
cultural diffusion. However the unique African religion that existed beforehand was still retained; the
African culture still believing in animism and polytheism even after the spread of Islam. From 1000
1500 CE the role of religion has seen changes and continuities influenced by the spread of foreign
territories, economics, and political/social systems in West Africa.

In addition Islam did not change African gender systems and supplanted original religions, rather than
replace them. Although many changes were incorporated into its spiritual life, religion still determined
the ethical/moral code of the population determining the social and cultural manner of West Africa.
The Islamization that took place within West Africa from 1000 to 1500 CE brought a variety of
religious, political, and economic changes in its society, contrary to the diversity and individuality that
remained. With the spread of Islam came a broader trading network which brought Africa new ways of
communication with the outside world, bringing new ideas of faith and migrants to the area. Though
the movement of new faiths traveled across the Sudanic states bringing new forms of worship, religion
was still the main authority that determined the ethical/ social patterns of Africa. With this in mind
much of African religion was retained, leading many people to live a life devoted to animism and
several nature deities. Around the beginning of 1500 CE much of West Africa, especially Ghana, Mali,
and the Sudanic kingdoms, became a fusion of African culture and Islamic influence, with greater
connection to the outside world and Islam while great diversity

Tea Party Dbq
The Boston Tea party helped repeal tax on tea and made a stand on the British. But was it necessary?
When thinking of the Boston Tea party, tea being dumped into a river or an ocean comes to mind. But
there is so much more than that. The questions that should come to mind are; was it necessary, who
and how it was organized, what effects did it have on the British East India Company and on the
United States.
The British taxed American colonist on many things, including sugar, paper, lead, and paint. But their
biggest mistake was passing the tax on tea. In the year of 1773, the Tea Act was passed. The Boston
Tea Party was a response to the Tea Act. It was very necessary because everyone drank tea even more
so than people in Britain. The Boston Tea Party was a stand on the tax. American colonist had the

episode. Hush is an interesting episode to the people, the story in the episode is so great, it received an
Emmy nomination. It being a favorite, greatly brought the episodes ratings to be the highest of the

The two characters can not convey what they desired to say to one another. In the opening start of the
episode, while they both still possessed their voices, talking didn t help them express how they felt
about each other. Later in the episode just after both of their voices are lost, they have the ability to
connect more and be able to truly express themselves. Talking does not seem to give them any
advantage, because whenever they were to interact they would get disrupted between their babbling .
Since they could not verbally communicate, by the reason of their voices being lost, they
communicate through facial expressions in a way that display what they are feeling. They use each

How Did James Cook Influence History
James Cook: Discovery or Invasion
Justin
Grade 6
What is James Cook’s influence and prominence to history? James Cook is a controversial figure
who “discovered Australia” Born on October 27, 1728, in Matron in Cleveland, Yorkshire, England,
James Cook was a naval captain, navigator and explorer who, in 1770, discovered and charted New
Zealand and the Great Barrier Reef of Australia on his ship Endeavor. He is credited for many
innovations in Cartography. But is he really as good as he seems. And why does he have such an
influence on our society. Why is the true history of Australia being covered up? Why does history treat
Captain Cook so kindly, despite the fact that in his later years he was an extraordinarily irritable man
who, over the most trivial matters, did not hesitate to flog crewmembers or burn down entire native
villages? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using a journal that was later published he was able to manipulate the system and create a common
stereotype. He did not discover Australia he colonized it. He is known and remembered as a hero but
he is an invader. Lately the claim has been modified a bit as most people now know that the Dutch
were sailing along the coastline of west Australia a couple of hundred years before James Cook was
born, and of course Abel Tasman sailed along the south of Australia (then called New Holland) and
landed on what is now known as

Migration Interview Essay
On April 15th, 2017 I interviewed a member of the Tongva tribe, which present day Long Beach now
inhabits. The tribal member, who asked to not be named, told me all about Long Beach s long history
as it was once a tribe and religious center and of CSU Long Beach s history as an ancient burial site
named Puvunga. The interview changed my understanding of my college campus and the city that I
now live in. It has made me more sensitive to the struggles that Native Americans faced and still
continue to face. The history of migration to California had great effect on the Puvunga village and
Tongva Tribe. The migration west in the 19th century forced Native Americans out of their sacred
lands and tribes as people from the North and South occupied ... Show more content on

The campus uprooted the burial sites and tried to keep them in their archaeology department, but with
the fight of my interviewee and many of his fellow tribal members, they were able to have the bodies
reburied in their original burial sites. It took a long and hard few years for the Tongva tribe to get
justice, as they had to be interrogated by many attorneys and prove their history in the Long Beach
area through multiple documents to prove their genealogy to the buried people. I also learned that
Puvunga is not only a burial site, but a place for ceremony and prayer. It is one of the largest religious
site for Native Americans in the entire country, however most people do not recognize it as such an
important landmark. This interview changed my understanding of the Long Beach area and my
campus. I realized that this community dates way further back than the westward expansion of the
United States and people should educate themselves on the rich history of Long Beach. I learned how
awful the United States people and government have treated Native Americans and how their needs to
be more justice for the people who were here long before we were. In conclusion, interviewing a tribal
member of the Tongva tribe helped me to understand Long Beach s diverse history more and to begin
to understand the great struggles

Carlos Ghosn At Nissan Essay
The Global Leadership of Carlos Ghosn at Nissan. .
In 1999, the Nissan was suffering under a decade of decline and un profitability, in fact the company
was on the verge of bankruptcy, with continuous loses for the past eight years resulting in debts of
approx.$22billion.
Lack of market knowledge, innovation, customer needs, quality management and competition
consideration as well the devaluation of Yen against the US dollar have dramatically impacted Nissan
performance. Also both formal and informal internal procedural Nissan norms, as well as Japanese
cultural norms were holding the company back. Through keiretsu investments Nissan management ...

Ghosn closed plants, laid off workers, broke up long standing supply networks, and sold off marginal
assets to focus on the company s core business. Nissan was now breaking the cultural norms of
keiretsu investments. Cutting down costs was just the first step in Nissan s recovery. Actually changes
were introduced in every corner of the company, from manufacturing and engineering to marketing
and sales: update of Nissan s car and truck lineup; introducing new, dynamic designs; quality
improvement. These strategies quickly polished Nissan s image in the marketplace, and re established
the company in the minds of consumers as a leader in innovation and engineering.
His so called Nissan Revival seems to be working. But Ghosn is definitely an iconoclast. He defies
Japanese business etiquette and shakes hands with every employee he meets, not just top managers.
But his radical moves have made him Public Enemy No. 1 to Japanese traditionalists.
Eighteen months later, Nissan was back in the black, and within several more years it had become the
most profitable large automobile company in the world. Ghosn transformed Nissan once again into a
powerful global automotive manufacturer. NRP returned the company to profitability, achieving 7.9%
operating margin and $2.5 billion profit in

A Room With A View Literary Merit Essay
A Room With a View Literary Merit I as a reader enjoy reading, however I do not do it as often as I
would like. I always have trouble starting books, I would say that the first five to chapters are the
hardest to get through. I admire how with reading you are able to make your own depiction of what s
happening, instead of seeing what others envisioned. To me a great book must have twists and turns to
keep me interested. I love being able to get to know the characters, feeling as if they are apart of your
own life, being able to see them as almost a friend in your own life. Taking their life lessons and
putting them to use in your own. I like more romantici books where they have to get over many
obstacles to obtain their great love. I also enjoy reading about a character who is able to turn their
troubles around and become better than they once were. As a little girl I was always read to; I wish
that I read more on my own when I was younger. I think it would have helped me get over the whole
trouble starting a book phase. I do see myself growing though. I praise older romantic/ coming of age
books with their complexity, symbolism, and messages, they have a certain personality that I adore
reading. Finding books like these make me enjoy reading a lot more than I did, say six years ago.
Literary merit to me would be described as the ability to read a book from the age of 15 to 90 and still
enjoy it (you may change meaning with in those years or look at it in a different

Keeping Briton’s Religious Origins Alive through Ancient...
A trend of unhappy endings was consistent in literary works of the Medieval period, where the heroes
and heroines don t live happily ever after but are instead brought great strife and are eventually killed.
These tales were often reflections of the old heritage of the Britons as their religious influence
persevered even after being marginalized both geographically and politically. Rather than reflecting
the pessimism of the Britons after being conquered by outside forces, the tales reminded the people of
the worthiness of their suffering as they connected to the heroes and heroines in the stories.
Furthermore, the persistence of these religious genres is evidenced in ancient literature such as
Beowulf, The Myth of Arthur s Return, or Diedru and the Exile of the Sons of Uisliu, as they retained
remnants of origins of the Britons religious beliefs. In Beowulf, King Hrothgar, the ruler of Danes, is
troubled by the rampages of a demon named Grendel. Fortunately, a young Geat warrior, Beowulf,
travels from his own kingdom across the seas, to Heorot Hall offering his assistance with the pest
problem. Before the tale has even really reached the action of the story, there are already subtle hints
of Christ like similitude and religious characteristics. Beowulf, like Christ, is from a foreign land and
travels to a distant place to save a kingdom s people from the evil demon that haunts and terrorizes
them. Beowulf battles this demon in hand to hand combat and tears Grendel s arm

Gordimer uses different characters. He uses a colored and white resident of South Africa, to encounter
how they are separated by laws, culture and traditions. In the short story Six Feet of the Country a
colored boy dies and his body is then taken to the morgue. When the relatives claim the body to give
him a decent burial, but they are given another body. They discovered that the wrong body was in the
casket, In the coffin was someone no one had ever seen before: a heavily built, rather light skinned
native with a neatly stitched scar on his forehead, (Gordimer 1327). Basically the African boy was
discriminated even after his death. He was a colored boy so his body really didn t matter at this point
in time. Although the farmer and his wife had a fair relationship with the workers not everyone did.
After the incident where they had been given the wrong body, Petrus wanted his money back. 20
pounds petrus had to gather and pay in order to get his brother s body back, which didn t turn out like
that. Petrus was seeking a refund. At the end the neither the body is returned nor the money I tried to

Corporate Identity Corporate identity the management of the process of change in the name/logo in the context of brands merger Joana César Machado Paulo de Lencastre Pedro Dionísio Universidade Católica Portuguesa E mail: jcmachado@porto.ucp.pt E mail: plencastre@porto.ucp.pt Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa E mail: pedro.dionisio@imr.pt Abstract The creation of strong corporate identity, including identity signs, is crucial for companies to encourage positive attitudes in its different target publics (Dowling, 1993; Van Riel Balmer, 1997), and may provide an important competitive advantage (Simões, Dibb Fisk, 2005). The corporate name and logo are two essential components of the corporate identity construct, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, in low involvement situations, the affect attached to the identity signs may be one of the few elements that differentiates the offer (Hoyer e Brown, 1990; Leong, 1993). Previous research suggests consumers evaluation of the organization s logo directly influences their evaluation of the organization (Schechter, 1993; Stafford et al., 2004). The probability of affect transfer depends on its nature (positive or negative), on the intensity of affective reactions and on the way signs are associated to products and organisations. Several authors refer that the name and logo should evoke the same intended set of associations, and communicate one clear message (Durgee and Stuart, 1987; Keller 1993; Kopp et al., 1990; Vartorella, 1990). Semiotics literature suggests that this meaning can be obtained through the analysis of the nuclear or consensual meaning evoked by the logo (Perrussia, 1988). Previous research shows that identity signs which elicit a shared set of associations are better liked, transfer more positive affect to the organisation, and are better recognized than signs with an ambiguous meaning (Henderson and Cote, 1998; Schecter, 1993). Finally, the less ambiguous the organization s identity signs, the more likely its intended positioning will be shared across a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Anti-Stalking Case Study Robert John Bardo became obsessed with the actress Rebecca Schaeffer in the 1980s. He attempted to visit her on set at Burbank Studios while she was filming twice but was turned away by gate security each time. After he saw her in Class Struggle in Beverly Hills, a movie in which her character was in bed with a man, he was disgusted because in his eyes she had become just another Hollywood whore. He made a deadly plan and set it in motion. He asked his brother to procure him a gun and obtained her address from the Department of Motor Vehicles. One July morning he knocked on her door with a copy of Catcher and the Rye. He introduced himself as her biggest fan and asked her to sign the book. She signed the book, thanked him, and asked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stalking has been defined by J. Reid Meloy, recognized as the authority on stalking, as [Stalking is] an abnormal or long term pattern of threat or harassment directed towards a specific individual (Bocij, 2004, p. 6). Pathé and Mullen define stalking as A constellation of behaviors in which one individual inflicts on another repeated unwanted intrusions and communications (Mullen, Pathé, Purcell, 2000, p. 7). In general stalking can include several components: 1) an undesirable habit or conduct such as following, spying, or making unwanted phone calls; 2) the target of these attentions, or a reasonable person, would feel fear or a similar emotion such as distress, annoyance, or torment; and 3) there is a sincere danger of harm to the target of the attentions (Nobles, Reyns, Fox, Fisher, 2014). Cyberstalking has even less cohesion in its legal definition. Generally it includes the use of electronic communication to do any of the following things in two on two or more occasions: communicating with an individual after being asked to stop; harassing, annoying, or tormenting an individual; making unwelcome sexual advances towards an individual; and threatening an individual with physical violence (Reyns, 2012). • 6. The Effect Of Visitor Interaction On Primate Species In Zoos In the wild, interactions between humans and animals are often limited. In captivity, this dynamic is altered as a result of humans being allowed to be in close proximity to the animals while they are on display. Zoos, especially in Europe and North America, strive to educate the public about their animals and the conservation efforts to help save them in the wild (Hosey, 2005). In order to ensure that visitors leave the zoo feeling as if they can make a difference, visitors need to feel a connection with the animals. A way in which this is done is to design exhibits that put the public closer to the animals. By doing so, it is common that animals in captivity can be subject to interaction with the guests, creating a potential for visitor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Different populations have been seen reacting negatively, while others have reacted positively or neutrally. In Wells (2005) it was suggested that crowd size had a negative impact on the gorillas at the Belfast Zoological Gardens in Northern Ireland. The gorillas had increased aggression during large crowd sizes and appeared less stressful during low visitor periods. However, some populations of gorillas did not show an increase in undesirable behavior in relation to larger crowd size. In Kuhar (2008) there were no significant findings that suggested crowd size played any role in the behavior of the gorillas. In a study conducted by Ross and Lukas (2006) it was found that during crowds of high density or low density alike, there were no significant differences in gorilla behavior. Interestingly, in Wells (2006) the researchers suggest that some auditory stimulation, such as that from visitors, can be a form of enrichment for the gorillas rather than a source of stress. Similarly, in Stoinski et al., (2012) there were no significant effects of crowd size for some of the behaviors they analyzed. Other behaviors they observed did change in relation to crowd size such as contact aggression and undesirable behavior but those behaviors changes were not seen as significant and it is suggested that crowds may affect some individuals and not ... Enduring a childhood marked by grinding poverty in Alabama, Owens became a star athlete in high school after his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. His achievements earned Owens several lucrative offers to attend college as a track and field athlete, and he enrolled at Ohio State University in 1933. Athletic Success as a Teenager Owens enrolled in Cleveland s Fairmount Junior High School around 1927 and quickly attracted the attention of a mentor who would prove crucial in his future athletic success. Charles Riley worked at the school as a physical education teacher and track and field coach and immediately realized that Owens was a naturally gifted athlete who had not yet taken up serious training. Riley started a rigorous training program for Owens in special morning sessions before school. Within a year, Owens was running the 100 yard dash in eleven seconds and in 1928 he set two world records for his age group in the high jump, at six feet, and the long jump, at twenty two feet, eleven and three quarters inches. Under Riley s instruction to run as though the track were on fire, Owens also improved his times on the track. Of the seventy nine races he entered in high school, Owens won seventy five of them. Owens also formed a warm personal relationship off the track with Riley, who continued to coach him after he entered East Technical High School in 1930. After Henry Owens suffered a traffic accident in 1929 and experienced extended periods of unemployment in the Great Depression, Riley s role as a surrogate father was especially important to the young athlete. Halloween Night vs. Prom Night Halloween Night vs. Prom Night Ghosts, princesses, superheroes, and so many other strange characters are seen walking around during the night of October 31st, the night known as Halloween. Halloween is the night most famously known for haunted houses, candy, black cats, witches and ghosts. For one magical night a year, known as prom, teenagers get to feel and dress like princes and princesses and to attend their first formal event before becoming an adult. For that night, tiaras, limos, corsages, tuxedos and evening gowns are all the rage. Both nights are important nights when growing up, and even though they are so different, they actually have some things in common. Halloween night and prom are nights that have a similar, yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Halloween is the one night a year children or teenagers can dress up and act differently. They wear costumes and get to be a different person or thing for the night. Even though prom is not celebrated on the same date every year, it is still one night of dressing up. Teenagers get to dress up formally and also act differently for the night. The attire is usually formal unless the prom has a certain theme that calls for them to dress up in costumes. The purpose of both nights is about dressing up, but, the attire is different for both events. The second point of comparison is that both are a night of social events. Depending on how each family celebrates Halloween it can be a night for families to go out together and trick or treat together, or the children can go out with a group of friends to go trick or treating. Many costume parties are thrown to celebrate the night and there are many haunted houses to go through with friends or family. Prom night is an important social dance event where teenagers in high school get together with their friends before and after prom. Both boys and girls might get together before prom to get ready together and then take pictures with friends and family. Before attending the dance they go out to dinner with their friends and take a limo to the prom venue. Many parties are held after the prom to continue the night s celebrations. ... • 9. Maya Number 4 Essay To many people and cultures, the topic of numbers may seem to have limited to a nonexistent symbolic relationship or importance. Numbers seem to have the sole purpose to act in mathematics. Many people would not consider a number to be the center of their actions or daily thoughts. Regardless, the Maya people holds one number above all near and dear to its heart. The number four in Maya culture and literature keeps recurring in many texts. The two primary examples of addressing the importance of the number four can be seen in the sacred Popol Vuh and the popular play of the Rabinal Achi. • 10. The Theme Of Responsibility In Avi s Nothing But The Truth Thesis: The author, Avi, shows two themes, truth and responsibility, throughout the novel. In Nothing But the Truth, Avi makes sure that the reader does not forget these themes. Truth and responsibility are major lessons that a child should know while growing up. This story shows that the truth can get out of hand if you don t take responsibility for your actions. Philip Malloy is known as a good kid. He doesn t act out in class, isn t mean to anyone, and gets pretty good grades except for Ms. Narwins class. Therefore having a bad grade in her class means that he cannot try out for the track team. In a conversation between Philip and his father, Philip blames his bad grade on the teacher and doesn t want to share the truth. I saw your grades. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Responsibility is a big deal in this book. Philip could have avoided the media and the nation if he took responsibility for his actions. Philip started humming the national anthem during morning announcements. Everyday they say Please all rise and stand a respectful, silent attention for the playing of our national anthem. This has been routine for years. During a conversation between Dr. Palleni and Philip in the assistants principal s office shows that he could have owned up to his actions, but decided to stand next to his decision. ...What do you say, Phil, you get up, go back there, and apologize? To Miss Narwin. Say you ll follow rules. Than, as far as I m concerned, we forget it. Nothing on your record. What do you say? ... She s wrong. That s all. She s wrong. No way I m apologizing (61). This conversation proves that Philip did stand up for himself, but in the wrong way. He was humming the national anthem loudly, but told the principal he was humming to himself. One final example of responsibility is when Dr. Palleni was being interviewed by Ms. Stewart and would refuse to talk about his actions. You d didn t inform your superior, or you didn t suspend the boy for singing The Star Spangled Banner ? Which? I am simply trying to get my facts straight. Dr. Palleni? Are you still there? • 11. The Characters Of Calpurnia As A Mockingbird What does it take to be considered a mother? Does it take courage? Strength? Love? Or are you only a mother if you give birth to a child or officially adopt a child? Being there for someone emotionally, mentally, and physically are the characteristics of a good mother. A woman or even a man can take the role of being a protector and guardian of someone who was not necessarily born into or chosen for their family. Calpurnia does an excellent job of taking the role as Jem and Scout s motherly figure. She has rules and shows the kids discipline, teaches them life lessons and supports and comforts them as they grow up. Calpurnia is Jem and Scout s African American cook who has been with their family since before their mother died. Scout said that She had been with us ever since Jem was born, and I had felt her tyrannical presence as long as I could remember. Our mother died when I was two, so I never felt her absence (6). Calpurnia displays motherly actions by disciplining Jem and Scout just like they were her own kids. Her hand was as wide as a bed slat and twice as hard (6) explained Scout. This quote signifies that Scout knows how her hand feels and she was getting a physical punishment. Calpurnia tends to discipline Scout more than Jem because Scout acts out and is the worst behaved child of the siblings. She was ordering me out of the kitchen, asking me why I couldn t behave as well as Jem when she knew he was older, and calling me home when I wasn t ready to come (6) Scout states. Scout and Calpurnia s relationship is just like a mother and daughter relationship because they fight and make up and Calpurnia disciplines Scout and Scout gets mad at her. Page 75 Chapter 3 states Calpurnia bent down and kissed me. I ran along, wondering what had come over her. She had wanted to make up with me, that was it. She had always been too hard on me, she had at last seen the error of her fractious ways, she was sorry and too stubborn to say so. Calpurnia also accepts and claims them as her own children because on page 118 she said, I don t want anybody sayin I don t look after my children. Calpurnia s discipline is tough, but it relates back to the values and lessons that she wants to teach her children. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some behaviorists believe that self actualization is a difficult concept for researchers to operationalize, and this in turn makes it difficult to test Maslow s theory. There are two sources of drinking water, surface water and ground water and they are each managed, monitored and regulated differently even though the actual water systems are interrelated and integrated. The contamination was ultimately found to be Escherichia coli 0157:H7 commonly referred to as E. coli or EC0157. Investigations by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Missouri state and county public health departments determined the most probable source of contamination was leakage of sewage near broken water main lines that then entered the drinking water distribution system (Swerdlow et al, 1992). According to the report by Swerdlow et al (1992), this particular incident had the distinction of being not only the largest incidence of EC0157 infection at that time but also the first due to a multiple resistant organism, and the first documented to be transmitted by water (Swerdlow et al, 1992, p. 818). Testing of water taken directly from the wells in Cabool revealed the water contamination did not occur in the ground water itself but was initiated in and then distributed via the water supply system. The Cabool contamination could have been prevented had the town followed the recommended standard procedure of hyperchlorination immediately after water line breaks or repairs (Swerdlow et el, 1992). It is common for water systems to have small leaks but they usually do not result in contamination as the positive flow of water pressure prevents inward infiltration of the system but when there are breaks in the lines and pressure is lost, contamination can flow back into the water lines. ... In 1919 Ital, England, France, and U.S came to an agreement that Germany had to pay for all the damage they did in the First World War. When Hitler heard of this he started organising an army, air force and started making allies, like Mussillon s Italy. Six months later Hitler breaks the treaty and starts another war. • 31. Keeping Briton’s Religious Origins Alive through Ancient... A trend of unhappy endings was consistent in literary works of the Medieval period, where the heroes and heroines don t live happily ever after but are instead brought great strife and are eventually killed. These tales were often reflections of the old heritage of the Britons as their religious influence persevered even after being marginalized both geographically and politically. Rather than reflecting the pessimism of the Britons after being conquered by outside forces, the tales reminded the people of the worthiness of their suffering as they connected to the heroes and heroines in the stories. Furthermore, the persistence of these religious genres is evidenced in ancient literature such as Beowulf, The Myth of Arthur s Return, or Diedru and the Exile of the Sons of Uisliu, as they retained remnants of origins of the Britons religious beliefs. In Beowulf, King Hrothgar, the ruler of Danes, is troubled by the rampages of a demon named Grendel. Fortunately, a young Geat warrior, Beowulf, travels from his own kingdom across the seas, to Heorot Hall offering his assistance with the pest problem. Before the tale has even really reached the action of the story, there are already subtle hints of Christ like similitude and religious characteristics. Beowulf, like Christ, is from a foreign land and travels to a distant place to save a kingdom s people from the evil demon that haunts and terrorizes them. Beowulf battles this demon in hand to hand combat and tears Grendel s arm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gordimer uses different characters. He uses a colored and white resident of South Africa, to encounter how they are separated by laws, culture and traditions. In the short story Six Feet of the Country a colored boy dies and his body is then taken to the morgue. When the relatives claim the body to give him a decent burial, but they are given another body. They discovered that the wrong body was in the casket, In the coffin was someone no one had ever seen before: a heavily built, rather light skinned native with a neatly stitched scar on his forehead, (Gordimer 1327). Basically the African boy was discriminated even after his death. He was a colored boy so his body really didn t matter at this point in time. Although the farmer and his wife had a fair relationship with the workers not everyone did. After the incident where they had been given the wrong body, Petrus wanted his money back. 20 pounds petrus had to gather and pay in order to get his brother s body back, which didn t turn out like that. Petrus was seeking a refund. At the end the neither the body is returned nor the money I tried to get the money; Lerice had. We both telephoned and wrote and argued, but nothing came of it, (Gordimer 1328).
