Enzyme Concentration And Incubation Time
The objective of this experiment was to determine if N acetyl B D hexosaminidase isolated from rat
testes exhibits Michaelis Menten kinetics. This was determined by first deciding the optimal
enzyme concentration and incubation time, 1.32*10 5 ОјM/mL and 60 mins, respectively. The
enzyme was then reacted with varying concentrations of 4 nitrophenyl N acetyl B D glucosamine
enzymesubstrate and a Michaelis Menten plot was generated. Once it was determined that N
acetyl B D hexosaminidase follows Michaelis Menten kinetics by exhibiting a hyperbolic curve, a
Lineweaver Burk plot was generated and kinetic parameters Vmax, Km, Kcat, and Kcat/Km ratio
were calculated. The parameters Vmax, Km, Kcat, and Kcat/Km ratio were determined to be 165
Ојm/mL/min, 0.145 mM, 2.08*105 s 1, and 1.43*106 mM 1 s 1, respectively. N acetyl B D
hexosaminidase was proven to follow Michaelis Menten kinetics, however, the calculated enzymatic
parameters did not aligned with literature values.
INTRODUCTION
Enzyme kinetics is a field of study that allows for enzymes catalytic role within reactions to be
quantified. Quantifying enzymes catalytic role provides a means to characterize enzymes through
various lenses. Enzyme kinetics can be studied through the use of multiple kinetic parameters. Km,
Vmax, Kcat, and the ratio of Kcat/Km can be determined to accurately quantify and measure
aspects of an enzyme within a specific reaction. These parameters can further describe defining
features of enzymes such

Unlocking Congress, By Michael Golden
Recently many people believe that congress has not been working efficiently. Over the past
couple of years the amount of laws passed has been at an all time low, and Congress has been
receiving mostly negative reviews from the American public. In his book Unlock Congress,
Michael Golden discusses many of the problems that have been negatively affecting Congress.
Golden then offers many different solutions that he believes will help Congress work more
smoothly. Golden discusses many different problems of the legislative branch. One of the first
things he talks about is the four defects, and the three effects of the defects. He refers to this as
the 4 3. The first defect he talks about is the money flood. This is arguably one of the biggest
defects of the legislature. While the three other defects only affect the House of Representatives
or the Senate, the money flood affects all 535 members (Golden 2015). Most of the money
raised by these members is paid by special interests groups, and all the money they receive is
legal. In 2012 the money the House and Senate raised was more than $1.8 billion, and special
interest groups accounted for $400 million of that (Golden 2015). This is scary because it means
that politicians have to spend more of their time negotiating with small amounts of people who are
able to give large sums of money, rather than most of the American public who can only afford to
donate small amounts of money. This is alarming because it implicates them

Biotechnology Advantages And Disadvantages
1.What is Biotechnology?
1.1. A definition of Biotechnology
The exploitation of microorganisms for industrial purposes or processes. (Sterrenberg, 2010) 1.2.
Two advantages of Biotechnology with their advantages and disadvantages Examples:
Antibiotics
Vaccines
Antibiotic destroy bacterial pathogens. Antibiotics have different chemical structures, therefore
destroying pathogenic bacteria differently. There are two manners in which antibiotics can destroy
pathogenic material:
1.The bacterium cell is destroyed by causing the wall of the bacterium to weaken, therefore
disfiguring the cell and forcing the cell to burst, spilling all its contents, and destroying the cell
from spreading its pathogenic bacteria.
2.Antibiotics can take the form of the pathogenic bacterium s metabolism. This completely
destroying the bacterium when it is apparent in the body. (Sterrenberg, 2010) ... Show more content

Vaccines are used to create immunisation. They are taken orally by injection. Vaccines are a
weakened form of a microorganism. It is injected to create immunity against the specific pathogen
injected. Therefore, creating antibodies and a memory of the reaction to the pathogen.
Immunisation is now created. When the pathogen attacks the body, the antibodies will respond and
destroy the pathogen. Therefore making a person immune to a disease. (Sterrenberg,

A Story To Write A Short Story
Sirens could be heard from all over the city. The news was on in every house, reporters saying
Convicted of robbery, Emily Stanford seen running down the streets of New York. The last we
saw her was she was heading down to the bus stations. If anyone has any information on where
she is going please call the police station. Emily ran towards the train station desperate to get
there before the police caught up to her. She walked up to the line and waited impatiently. Every
sound made her on edge, when it was finally her turn she pulled her hood closer to her face. One
ticket for Cold Spring please. Emily said quickly, the lady in the ticket booth gave her her ticket
and directed her to the bus platform. Emily quickly and quietly walked over to the bus and took
her seat. A few hours later the bus stopped and announced its destination, Emily got off the bus
and walked quickly down the street looking for any opportunity to get somewhere to sleep
without getting noticed. She walked past a TV shop and in the window the TV was playing.
The same news playing from earlier that day, she wished every thing would just disappear and
leave her alone for at least one day. She eventually found a small quiet motel, she got a nice
room. After she got settled into the room she got the things she needed out of her backpack. She
walked into the bathroom and got her hair damp and applied the hair dye. While waiting for her
hair to dry she did her makeup, she covered up her freckles.

Glacier National Park Research Paper
Alex Kover, Mariah Danner, Chad Zamzow ESS 305 Park Paper Glacier National Park
Introduction Glacier National Park, located in Northwestern Montana, is an astounding
spectacle of history and beauty. Not simply just the history of the Native Americans and
European descended settlers that call the area their home, but also the geologic history of the
Earth. The region is known for the beautiful scenery that can be seen from anywhere in the park.
Large, steep mountains rise out of deep, lake filled valleys and thick conifer forests open up into
grassy, flower filled meadows. The park is also home to a wide variety of plants and animals.
Grizzly bears and mountain goats wander through the forests and rocky cliffs while beargrass
flowers light up meadows and evergreens rise high above the valleys below. It is for this beauty
and scenery that the region was designated a national park for people to enjoy. Location... Show

Electric Powered -Tesla S Model versus Gasoline Powered...
Electric Tesla S Model
Gasoline Mercedes SLK
A car fueled by an electric battery is powered by the battery that it contains. The battery gains
power from being plugged into a typical electric outlet. The batteries are also connected to the
pedals the driver pushes down. When the pedal is pushed, the controller in the car pulls the
electricity the battery is holding and applies it to the engine to power the vehicle
A car fueled by a typical gasoline engine runs differently than an electric. Instead of having a
battery to power the engine, the car uses an internal combustion unit to propel the car. The gasoline
that the owner adds to the vehicle is heated by the combustion unit and is mixed with oxygen to
power the engine. When the driver pushes the pedal down, that activates the combustion unit.
The fuel source of an electric vehicle is electricity. This can come from a variety of sources. The
car gains if from a fueling station or from the owners electrical outlets. But, the energy that is
pulled from those places is made from Nuclear Power Plants, Coal plants, and many other non
renewable resources. The process of creating the electricity can cause some environmental issues
such as releasing excess carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. But, some comes from resources that
are renewable which are things like wind, solar, and hydro power.
A gasoline powered vehicle is powered by just that, gasoline. It is from petroleum and oil that is
found deep in the ground

Jude the Obscure and Social Darwinism Essay
Jude the Obscure and Social Darwinism
Jude the Obscure is indeed a lesson in cruelty and despair; the inevitable by products of Social
Darwinism. The main characters of the book are controlled by fate s compelling arm of
extraordinary muscular power (1), weakly resisting the influence of their own sexuality, and of
society and nature around them.
Jude s world is one in which only the fittest survive, and he is clearly not equipped to number
amongst the fittest. In keeping with the strong Darwinian undercurrents that run through the book,
a kind of natural selection ensures that Jude s offspring do not survive to procreate either. Their
death by murder and suicide is but one of many grisly instances of cruelty ... Show more content on

Not like our poor boy here. (3)
Although the Widow Edlin s words refer to Jude s physical status, Hardy is also using them to
comment on Jude as a societal and intellectual being. On that level too, he was clearly not fit
enough to emerge triumphantly from the struggles of Darwinian society.
If Hardy s message is that only the fittest can escape nature and society s cruelties, then one must
ask, which of the characters in the novel is most successful in the competitive atmosphere?
Phillotson certainly achieves some measure of professional success as a schoolmaster, but like
Jude, he too was unable to break into the echelons of university academia. Furthermore, despite
marrying Sue, his union with her was less than successful. One gets the sense that in his one
sided love for Sue, Phillotson was swept along powerlessly by the tides of his own sexuality just
as Jude was. Rather than pro actively seeking to cultivate Sue s love for him or to gain some form
of self determination, he chose to remain meek and impassive, very much allowing Sue to
determine the course that his life with her would take, if it was to be with her at all.
Is Sue then the prime candidate for social fitness in the work? Sue herself fought against the

Freedom Writers Film Analysis
The film The Freedom Writers was released in 2007 and was directed by Richard LaGravanese.
Richard used multiple film techniques to help the viewers understand how the characters are
feeling, their relationships with other characters and what their personality is like. These
techniques include camera shots, costume, and lighting, and they were helpful to create a theme
of perseverance. In one scene, room 203 is spending a lot of time to raise money so Miep Gies, an
elderly lady who lived through World War II and helped hide Anne Frank
, can come visit them.
After a dance concert and a bake sale, both of which were very popular, they had raised enough
for Gies to travel to America. During their struggle to fundraise, Margaret the head teacher would
continuously complain to the principle that they shouldn t be able to do so, to no avail. When
Miep arrives, students have created a big, bright sign, welcoming her to their school, and they all
listen with rapt attention as she tells them her experience in the war. A tracking shot was used as
Margaret marched to the principal s office three times and the camera followed her as she moved. A
tracking shot attracts the audience s attention to what the camera is focusing on, which in this case
is Margaret. A long shot being incorporated into the tracking shot tells the audience that the setting
is important as well, and the long shot helps the viewer understand the emotion of the characters as

Shake And Stir By William Shakespeare
Shake and Stir Responding Task Shake and Stir Theatre Company is a compelling theatrical voice
which aspires to render Shakespeare s plays to appease modern audiences. However, William
Shakespeare penned his last play 400 years ago; despite this, his plays and sonnets are as alive
today as they were in the 16th and 17th Centuries. Shakespeare s plays still appeal to modern
society because of the universality of the dramatic themes love, deceit, political endorsement,
honour, ambition and courage humans still experience these emotions which give Shakespeare a
foothold in modern times. Shake and Stir sequenced together an array of modified scenes from
Shakespeare s most iconic plays, to implore dramatic meaning: Shakespearean text can be rendered
to engross modern audiences while maintaining its integrity and Elizabethan charm. Great Shakes is
staged in a graveyard, where three year ten students, Betty, Brock and Ben are incarcerated.
However, after appearances from several supernaturals, they are returned to their everyday lives, but
not before they manipulate Shakespeare s tragedies, comedies and histories to engage contemporary
audiences. It is evident, Shake and Stir s production, Great Shakes effectively conveyed the
dramatic meaning of Shakespeare s relevance in contemporary society. This was made explicit
through; the re contextualization of the historical context, utilisation of conventions from modern
theatre (cinematic theatre) and Elizabethan theatre.

The Music Of Bali And Its History, Beliefs, And Values,...
Introduction
Gamelan is a term for various types of orchestra played in Indonesia. As Indonesia entails 17000
islands, there are many different styles of gamelan, and no gamelan orchestra is considered to be
the same as another (See Y S, 2000). The music of Bali a Hindu island afloat in a Muslim sea was
described by the American composer Colin McPhee as the stirring mystery of a thousand bells
(Gordon, 1994). Varieties of gamelanare distinguished through tunings, style, cultural context and
the collection of instruments used. The varieties are generally grouped geographically, with certain
styles being shared by nearby ensembles, therefore leading to a regional style (See Y S, 2000).
Balinese gamelan is the main element of Indonesian traditional music as well as belonging to the
sacred elements of their culture. Throughout the following investigation, the style of Balinese
gamelan will be analysed through its history, beliefs and values, musical elements, cultural effects
and future observations.

Policy Memorandum: Title XI
September 10th, 2016
Students Seek Change for Title XI Title XI at Glance Every time an American citizen turns on the
news, there is a headline involving a sexual harassment case or unfortunately, cases of rape. Most
news stories are focused on a questionable school policy that fails to have reasonable judgment and
punishment for students involved. Recent cases in the news, like the Brock Turner case has turned
viral due to the publicity and exposure it had among young people. This particular case was
something that was so real to students in both high school and college, that millennial s began to
alter their perception of how insensitively harassment cases are handled. The Title XI policy that
is being enforced in school systems now, is a policy that has been up for debate by those who
enforce the policy and those the policy effects for years now. The policy belongs to the education
amendments of 1972. One might say that the policy is outdated. Although the policy has seen
some updates to its history, the language of the act is irrelevant in context to current situations the
school systems are facing now. The question remains, how does one change the policy and what
policies need to be made. The policy itself states that, No person in the United States shall, on the
basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to
discrimination under any education program or

Is there truly any justice in the novel The Stranger, written by Albert
Camus?
Is there truly any justice in the novel The Stranger, written by
Albert Camus? This is a question that naturally protrudes throughout the novel, as it is not
abundantly clear what Meursault, the protagonist, was, in fact, put on trial for. At the beginning of
the second part of the narrative, it is understood that he is put on trial for the murder of an Arab;
however, it later comes to our attention that the murder was not the primary reason of his trial, and
perhaps not even an essential one for that matter. The fact remains that
Meursault was undoubtedly put on trial, not for the murder committed, but for being the way he
was: unemotional through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer is simple: it does not relate to the murder of the
Arab. Being the representative of society, the jury opposes Meursault and accuses him of not
conforming to society s natural ways, and being what we nowadays refer to as the odd one out .
They exclude him from society for his odd clear cut and sincere demeanor, and for his
manifestation of an inexpressive character.
Another example is the moment in which the magistrate, a local member of the judiciary having
limited jurisdiction, especially in criminal cases, questioned Meursault. In this particular scene, the
magistrate changes the topic rather abruptly from his love for Maman, to which he responded he
loved the same as anyone (p. 67), to the murder scene.
What followed was a vast discussion on Meursault s belief in God, which he felt rather apathetic
about; however, the magistrate, waving a crucifix to his face refers to him as the antichrist (p. 71).
And later, during the trial, the judge and the prosecuting attorney seem more intrigued by the fact
that Meursault did not grieve at his mother s funeral and got involved with Marie the day after it,
than the actual act that had been committed: the assassination of a man.
The majority of the witnesses that had been called only supported the argument of his callous
nature, as they very well knew that Meursault was frighteningly candid, and could not, or would
not, create a

The Self Essay
The Self Every situation that an individual is exposed to throughout life, helps mold our self. As
humans we have the ability to see ourselves from the outside, and all through life we try to see
what others see and our selfrevolves around the generalized other. We observe how others perceive
us and we make conclusions depending on our observations. How we act around others depends on
the image we feel they have towards us.

On the other hand if you see yourself as an individual who can communicate without a problem
and you see that you can keep others interested in a given conversations, your reaction is more
positive. Through this looking glass self we develop a self concept. Depending on the
observations we make concerning the reactions of others we develop feelings and ideas about
ourselves. The reflection we see in the mirror is either negative or positive depending on the
feedback we get back from those around us. Misjudgments of the reactions of others become part
of our self concept also the misinterpretations of how others think of us. Self concepts begins in
childhood but it continues to develop throughout life. As we observe how other people react to us,
we modify our self.
The self is never a finished project, and it continues to change as our life takes different turns. Our
self reacts to the environment that we are in. As the self expands we put together the different
reactions making us a unique individual. Every individual has a different way of thinking and
therefore they make their own choices about certain situations. Going through different life

Consequences Of Plagiarizing Political Leaders
Plagiarizing Politicians Plagiarizing politicians is not new news for vigilant voters. Politicians

responses were as level headed as Joe Biden s when he said, I do not understand what the big

If a government leader is caught stealing the intellectual property of another, what does that say
about their integrity? What does that tell voters about their intellect? Any government leader
caught in the act of stealing intellectual property should be a red flag to all voters because, most
likely, that candidate or politician doesn t have much intellectual property of their own to begin
with. And if it s not their own words and their own work, then who is it that s really running the
country? Of course, many politicians will make the excuse that they just don t have the time to
come up with original speeches and believe that other authors beliefs are parallel to their own,
but it doesn t matter. Without proper credit given to the original author, which only takes a few
extra seconds to do, appear to the public as original, and anyone attempting to be a fraud will be

common sense,) Voters should be shocked that their own country s representative leaders would

the world, and with the development of new antiplagiarism guidelines and technology for students
across the globe, including: The United States, middle east, parts of Asia, and even South Africa,

Essay On Melanoma Skin Cancer
Abstract
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the most common form of cancer in
the United States is melanoma skin cancer (2014). It is crucial that melanoma needs to be detected

I Ever Heard Of Anne Frank
Have you ever heard of Anne Frank? Anne Frank was a 13 year old Jewish girl and was born
June 12, 1929. World War II started September 1, 1939 and lasted until September 2, 1945. This
war was fought between two allied groups of countries. On one side, the Axis powers, which
included Germany, Italy, Japan, and a few other smaller counties. On the other side, the Ally
powers, which included Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union,
China, and the United States. World War II was fought because a man named Adolf Hitler came

of fabric and wool and spent her nights, in the dark, putting the scarf together for Mr. Frank.
Near the end of the play, Mr. Van Daan gets up in the middle of the night and sneaks out into the
kitchen of the Secret Annex. He got bread out of the cupboard and began to eat it, thinking
nobody would notice. The group in the Secret Annex thought they had rats. So, that night Mrs.
Frank got out of bed and went into the kitchen. There sat Mr. Van Daan, munching away at the
little bread they had left. She began screaming and yelling, and she told Mr. Van Daan to get out.
Mr. Frank was astonished. Mrs. Frank told the Van Daan s that they could stay until the next
morning, but she eventually let them stay and didn t force the family to leave. This supports Anne

Little Rascals Day Care Research Paper
In the spring of 1990 in Edenton North Carolina seven people including the owners and the staff
members of the Little Rascals Day Care Center had been arrested and charged with sexually
abuse. The mother Audrey Stever, who was concerned about her 3 year old Kyle reported the
details of the abuse to authority. Seven staff members that worked in the Little Rascals day care
were innocently accused of sexually abusing the majority of the children that attended the Little
Rascals day care. This is a witch hunt because the co workers were blamed. Put to jail, and judged
for a crime they never committed.
During the opening trial of the little rascals day care therapists and medical doctors had identified

Reuniting with my father.
I had not seen my father for the last ten years and I wanted to see him. I also wanted to be in the
United States of America which had been my dream since I was a little child. My dad left for
United States to seek asylum. He escaped unhurt during the 1992 post election violence. Inter tribe
skirmishes erupted immediately the result of then heavily contested election was announced. My
father was one of main campaigners of the opposition party. Since he was in the forefront he was
the target in the skirmishes. He ran to the United States to save his life. After staying in the United
States of America for ten years, he was granted US citizenship. He decided that we join him. We
missed him, as he missed us too.
I was excited and couldn t wait until the last week I had to spend in Africa that is when I realized
I was going to leave behind: All my relatives and friends, our home. It was going to be hard for
me to leave the place I called home for eighteen years but what I wanted most is to see my father.
It was very early in the morning when I got up, the sky was clear; it had never looked so
beautiful like this day. The grass and bushes still filled with the morning dew. We got into my
mom s Volkswagen golf and we drove down to my grandparents to say the final word before our
journey was due. It was exactly sixty seven miles away from the garage to grandparents homestead.

Grappling with Growth
Tyler Southard SPM 444 Case Study 4/2/13 Grappling With Growth 1. What are potential
strategies that the wrestling program can implement via social media marketing to improve
interactions with key stakeholders on a regular basis? The wrestling program needs a way to
interact with their stakeholders on a regular basis. The program can do this through social
media. Social media allows you to be able to reach out to many people at once and market your
brand to them. The main objectives of using social media is to increase attendance, strengthen
your brand, and keep fans up to date with the latest program news. Facebook is a good way to

Promotions such as giveaways, ticket discounts, raffles, etc. are a good way to attract fans. I
would also highlight these promotions on Facebook and Twitter for all of my followers to see.
Using the media is also a good use of traditional marketing because it is free. The media outlets
can inform fans and potential fans about the upcoming events. This is a free and easy way for
the program to spread information to the public. 3. Based on examples provided in the case
study, what are some potential new ideas for video releases that would help you to build
followers via social media? Creating video releases is a good way for fans to see the product
before they attend a match. YouTube is a prime medium to release these videos to the public.
The videos could be full matches or just match highlights. Also, there could be videos on
individual wrestlers, kind of like a biography on each wrestler so fans could get to know the
team better. To increase viewership of these videos, I could post them on Facebook and provide
the link on Twitter. Integrating multiple platforms is ideal for increasing awareness about the
program. Once people see just one of the social media sites, they will most likely access the others
if they are linked together effectively. 4. In one of the quotes, the University of Tennessee
Chattanooga staff discusses the different roles of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. What are the
differences between the three outlets and how can your program use

North Carolin The Legacy Of The English
In 1792, the state legislature had to decide where to place the state capitol. The capitol was
created as a planned capital city. As a nod to the state s early history, the capital was named
Raleigh after Sir Walter Raleigh in deference to his original plan to build a Cittie of Raleigh in his
first colony. (Powell, 1989, p. 212).
The most obvious influence of English settlement in North Carolina is the legacy of the English
language, the English system of weights and measures, which ironically the English no longer use,
the system of governance and as mentioned earlier, the naming of counties and towns.
Another legacy of the English influence in North Carolina is the textile industry. Early colonists

The Jack tales originated in the British Isles and were brought to North Carolina as part of a rich
oral storytelling tradition (Chase, 2003, pp. 62 65).
There are pockets of North Carolina which hold on to peculiarities of English speech. According
to (Burke, 1971, pp. 289 300) Ocracoke is one such pocket where dialect and language still
contain English influenced speech. Part of the reason this holds true is that Ocracoke, as a
barrier island remains isolated from the rest of the North Carolina and has held onto specific turns
of phrase and pronunciation. For example, the words abreast (to the side of) comforter (for quilt)
squall (for storm) curtain (in place of blind or roller shade) and whicker (the sound a horse makes.)
The early days of farming in North Carolina over a hundred years after the first white, European
colonists had arrived was initially that of hog and cattle farming. Hogs and cattle were let lose
to forage and roam the countryside before being rounded up twice a year for slaughter. The meat
was exported to the West Indies as salted beef and pork (Kulikoff, 2000). The legacy of hog
farming continues in North Carolina today with 7.1% of the national total of hog farms. In 2012,
the hog industry employed over 130,000 workers, and had a net worth of 2.9 billion dollars.

Theme Of Women In The Bluest Eye
In the end, the men are afraid of death, that it was they are most fearful of. By choosing death,
not only is she finally making a choice in her life, but she is finally gaining power over the kings,
princes and rulers which she always wished to, because she is doing what they fear most.
Women have little to no choice in their lives, society and systems within it, make decisions for
most women, like Firdaus. By taking away a woman s ability to choose, it is oppressing her. If you
have a voice, you have power, which is why there is a power struggle of this proportion among
women, because their voice is stolen from them.
The Bluest Eye. To complicate Firdaus story, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrisontells the story of
another girl s life. Pecola was born and raised a poor, powerless, Black girl. Her power struggle
is different, it is more internalized. Pecola grew up in an abusive household, where she
witnessed her father s power over her mother. When she was still just a child, her father raped
her. In this way he was able to gain power over Pecola as well. She learned from a young age that
Black meant ugly, which in turn meant powerless. Whereas white was beautiful and powerful.
This can be demonstrated by Pecola s interest in a cup that had Shirley Temple s face on it, which
is highly symbolic within the text, We knew she was fond of the Shirley Temple cup and took
every opportunity to drink milk out of it just to handle sweet Shirley s face (Morrison 23). Pecola

The Benefits Of Gay And Lesbians In The Military
In addition, all people should be allowed to serve freely in the military. If gay, lesbian and
bisexual people are willing to serve and die for their country, they shouldn t hide their sexual
orientation. Gay and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also
want to reveal their true identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to
openly join the army. Brave men and women currently serving in the army will have the
opportunity to come out freely and to be honest with their companions about whom they are and
who they love. Therefore, nationalistic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about
who they are in order to serve the country they love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its
remarkable skills and combat experience of so many gayand lesbian service members.
Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our
military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation s founding ideals. Many countries
prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement
this prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns.
However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little
evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. Moreover, when the ban was abolished in several
countries including the UK, Canada, and Australia, no large scale

Taking a Look at Solanine
solanine
It is a glycoalkaloid. It is a poison. It is present in the nightshade family i.e Solanaceae especially
in species tomato and potato. Solanine is found naturally in many parts of plants e.g tubers, leaves
and fruits. It also has pesticidal and fungicidal characteristics. It also act as a natural defence
system of plant. Firstly it was extracted in 1820 from a berry i.e Solanum nigram.
Solanine poisoning and it s symptoms primary symptoms of solanine poisoning are neurological
and gastrointestinal disorders.
Other symptoms may be vomiting, burning of throat, nausea, cardiac dysrythmia, diarrhea,
nightmare, dizziness, stomach cramps and a common symptom headache.
Hypothermia, fever, dilated pupils, hallucination, paralysis and losss of sensation occur in very
severe cases and somtimes death can also accur.
Way of action
A result of a study show that the mechanism of solanine toxicity is mainly due to it s chemical
interaction with the membranes of mitochondria. It is shown by experiments that when solanine is
exposed, it result in opening of pottassium channels of mitochondrial membrane, in it s result the
membrane potential is decreased and then Ca 2+ are transported from mitochondria to the
cytoplasm due to which concentration of Ca 2+ is increased in the cytoplasm which result in the
apoptosis i.e cell death and cell damage.

The Communist Manifesto Calling On The Workers Of The World
Few events in history capture the attention of scholars and the general populace alike more than
revolutionary contentious politics. Revolts and social movements have for centuries brought
about the most radical of changes to the political order of societies, at times even engulfing entire
regions of the world in a contagious, fevered upheaval. Revolutionaries have fought not only
against political systems and institutions such as aristocratic and colonial rule; they have also
fought for their beliefs, values, and ideals. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The
Communist Manifesto calling on the workers of the world to unite. Revolutionaries radicalized by
the ideas of liberalism and nationalism took to the barricades as socialists promoting the concept of
regional and world revolution helping to spark the modern spread of the notion referred to as
revolutionary waves . What factors are attributed with influencing an individual to rise up against an
entrenched political system and possibly risk their life to completely upend the historical order of
things and wipe the slate clean to enable present and future generations to create their own reality?
Until recently, the power of the people and their ability to mobilize and demand had often been
underestimated. Thomas Schelling once reflected that tyrants and subjects are in somewhat
symmetrical positions. Subjects are capable of denying the tyrant most of what it wants through
refusing to collaborate. The

the initial feeling left behind is a gratifying heartwarming thought. The mother displays the great

ignore and neglect. This unforgettable feeling is illustrated by the mother giving away her
possessions and not dwelling over them. She lets go of them as easily as a feather falls. For
instance, the narrator explains every time she visits her mother she owns less and gradually only
has a small amount of stuff left over. The narrator addresses the few things remaining are the ones
given to her by her children. The mother implies letting go of tangible things and holding on
harder to remember the important people is more precious. The remarkable idea of recycling
everything and feeling no regret is unforgettable. Many people value material possession rather than
well being and actualized lives. The unforgettable reaction of the mother being so genuinely happy
and sustained with the smallest amount of objects is shocking. Living in a materialistic society, an

Industrialization occurred in Britain in the 1750s due to the environmental and social climate
prime for mechanization in industries. Due to the change in economic exportations from
agricultural to mechanized products, Britain s society began to change as people migrated to
work in factories. The migration of the newfound middleclass led to mass urbanization of
various areas in England which contrasted the previous quintessential English countryside that
had dominated the nation. Through the expansion of mechanical goods, the countryside lost
land to factories and the environment was also deeply affected by the influx of smoke climbing
into the air. Contrary to the environmental problems, the British were experienced economic
glory as the became a superpower in the advancing technologies. Through the industrialization,
Britain would develop advanced war machines and would vastly change British society hundreds
of years later in 20th century London. JRR Tolkien was profoundly affected by industrialization
throughout his time in World War I. Beginning in 1915, Tolkien was enlisted in the war but it
did take much time for him to leave: in November of the same year he was sent back to London
because he was diagnosed with Trench fever. Although he soon recovered from the illness by

make camp visits to various army bases in London. In a particular visit to the Hull area, Tolkien

Mark Twain, America s greatest Humorist, shows his skills in satire in The Lowest Animal. Satire

Faulty Reasoning Analysis
There are many different faulty reasonings that I was able to find throughout this specific

states that I know three redheads who have terrible tempers, and since Annabel has red hair, I ll

made about red headed people. We see that the person is focusing on induction, taking a small
portion of a group and giving a bias conclusion. This is an obvious illogical reasoningbecause this
person is speaking on the account of experiences with three red headed people. This is problematic
because the person is giving us a bias observation to conclude that all redheads are indeed the same.
I found another illogical statement in number 6 which states that If Lady Gaga uses Truvia, it must
taste better than Splenda. This is an ad populum fallacy because it does not contain a reason for
believing that Truvia tastes better than Splenda. This is problematic because its reasoning is based
off the preference of a celebrity. We have no evidence in this statement that gives us proper

can get and I try hard to keep my average of 96% or higher every time. My grades are extremely
important to me and I work hard to do my best. This demonstrates the quality of scholarship that I
have. It also exemplifies how much work and effort I would put into the National Honor Society
after inductions because being a part of this organization and being committed to it is very
important to me. I demonstrate leadershipall of the time in many different situations. Being a part

I think I would do an outstanding job helping keep those impressions it sets on others and I
would do a good job meeting those expectations. After inductions, I plan to contribute a lot to the
National Honor Society. I plan to serve my duties as a member and work very hard after
inductions. Being a part of and contributing to the National Honor Society is extremely important
to me and I will do my best to meet all of the expectations. I have always wanted to be a part of
the National Honor Society and I think I should definitely be considered in my application for

Kramer Compare And Contrast Movie
I gave Kramer vs. Kramer a rating of four stars. I gave Kramer vs. Kramer four stars because it
was entertaining. I really like this movie, it was very easy to follow and understand. Kramer vs.
Kramer was very entertaining because i always wanted to know what was going to happen next. I
also liked the movie because it was very realistic. It was easy to follow the plot of the movie
because it is about something that could happen to us. Secondly, I gave Kramer vs. Kramerfour stars
because of acting. The actors in the movie are quality actors and make you feel like you part of
the movie. Justin Henry, who plays Bill Kramer, was around the age of six or seven when he was
acting in this movie. Even Though Justin Henry was six when filming this

The Death Of Sir Richard Steele
The best remembered periodical essayist, dramatist, and a politician was a man named Sir
Richard Steele. His birth date is not known but it is known that he was baptized on March 12,
1676 on Dublin, Ireland. Richard Steele s father was also named Richard Steele; he was an
attorney and his mother s name was Elinor Sheyles; her occupation was not said. Unfortunately,
after his parents passed away in 1676. Steele was placed under the guardianship of his uncle,
Henry Gascoigne, which was secretary of to the Duke of Ormonde. One of his challenges he
faced was that he only had one stage failure in 1703, which was The Lying Lover, that had only
ran for six nights. As Steele said damned for its piety. (Mutter) Another challenged he faced was...

Ten editions were sold in his lifetime. Steele was accused of hypocrisy and mocked for the
differences between his attitude precepts and genial convivial practice. In Steele s plays the
moralistic tract would be echoed. Later that same year, Steele wrote his first comedy The
Funeral or Grief A la mode. It was successfully performed at Drury Lane. This play made his
reputation look good and was noticed by King William and the Whig leaders. Late in 1703, his
second comedy, The Lying Lover was the only stage failure Steele had. It only had six runs. In
1705, Joseph Addison helped Steele with his third comedy called The Tender Husband. It was also
a success, might have been because Addison put in his part by helping Steele.
On August 12, 1709, Steele had released his paper called The Tatler, to be published thrice weekly.
It continued with Addison s help. The Tatler issues were authored by Steele. Addison writing about
46 on his own and working with Steele he had about 36 done. The Tatler unfortunately discontinued
on January 2, 1711. The reason for this is uncertain but mainly because of political reasons. Under
the name of Isaac Bickerstaff, Richard Steele made a mixture of entertainment and instruction in a
manner of morals that was going to be perfected in The Spectator. Richard Steele wrote this The
general purpose of the whole has been to recommend truth, innocence, honor, and virtue, as the

The Feminism Of Harriet Jacobs
Nehemiah Walls
Oct. 29, 2016
Eng.333
The Feminism of Harriet Jacobs Since the early annuls of history minority groups have always
faced opposition for the dominating forcing. As a counter rebuttal movements and uprisings usually
occurred in order to correct and promote better treatment within these oppressed groups. Feminism
served as a mechanism to promote equity amongst gender, sexual, ethnic, and even economic lines.
Notwithstanding, there still looms bigotry and oppression from the heavily dominated ideals of the
elite patriarchy. Harriet Jacobs s personal narrative, Incidents in the Life of Slave Girl unveils the
objectification, exploitation, and feminist perceptions of liberation from the reins of a heavily
dominated white patriarchal society during the 19th century through the experiences of the main
character Linda Brent. How did Jacobs reveal the hardships that slave women faced through the
eyes of Linda Brent? While captive black women faced constant sexual encroachments by their
slave holders, Richard Follett, author of the article, Lives of Living Death : The reproductive lives
of slave women in the cane world of Louisiana stated, despite the enormous burdens that
enslavement imposed on them...bondwomen challenged the misogynist assumptions that
underpinned plantation practices (Follett pg. 290). Notwithstanding Follett s proposal, Jacobs
refute his claims of bondwomen challenging the sexual advancements of their masters. Brent

Civil Unrest Cases
Civil unrest, also known as civil disorder is defined as: A term used by law enforcement to
describe unrest that cause by a group of people or organization usually in contempt of a law or
regulation related to a sociopolitical issues. Civil unrest is a direct result of the misconduct and
mistrust of the government and police departments. According to FatalEncounters.org a different
investigation is being pursued by the United Statesjustice department due to possible civil rights
violations as well as an investigation into unethical racial disparities in violation of the fourth
amendment by the Ferguson, Cleveland, and Albuquerque police departments. These incidences
can be hard to swallow for many citizens, however there is another problem with tracing
maltreatment of citizens by law enforcement and that is faulty and inconsistent reporting. Most
incidents of excessive, unnecessary force go unreported and... Show more content on

Way, Lori Beth, and Ryan Patten. Hunting for Dirt bags , edited by Lori Beth Way, and Ryan
Patten, Northeastern University Press, 2013. ProQuest Ebook Central, http:/
/ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/apollolib/detail.action?docID=1093565. This book offers
information of the policies of New York City, and other large urban centers and their long living
policies of zero tolerance policing or order maintenance and how these deal with catching criminals
before a crime is committed. These policies have contributed to growing racial tensions and have
lowered crime rates nationwide as many departments utilize these methods of catching suspects.
However, they have negatively impacted the black and Latino communities as they are concentrated
in the low income diverse neighborhoods. The book offers qualitative and quantitative data on the
nature of the American criminal justice system and its contributions to this prevalent issue. The
book also provides evidence of the existing carceral society focusing on punishment and deterrence

Plate Tectonics
pg. 1
Plate tectonics is the theory that has been studied for over thirty years that states that the outside
layer of Earth are actually large plates, approximately forty kilometers thick, that slide across the
magma beneath the exterior of the planet. The theory of plate tectonics explains the enormous
amount of volcanic and seismic activity surrounding certain areas of the world, stating that the
sliding of these plates either away from each other, sliding past each other, or sliding into each
other and causing one of the plates to slide beneath the other. When the plates slide away from
each other, new ocean floor is formed. When the plates slide past each other, minor earthquakes
will occur. When the plates slide toward each other and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The famous Canadian geologist, J. Tuzo Wilson, was the first to speculate why there was
volcanic activity in the middle of a tectonic plate in 1963. Wilson was the first to speculate about
the hot spots, or thermal plums. The theory of hot spots is supported by the Hawaiian islands
which are located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean plate, also known as the Ring Of Fire due to
the increased volcanic activity surrounding the plate. Because the plate has been shifting since the
beginning of time, the plate has gradually slid by the hot spot, slowly forming islands across the
ocean. One of the earliest islands, Kauai, has magma sediment from over 5.5 million years old,
and the newest island, Loihi, which is still submerged beneath the ocean and has yet to reach the
surface but still is 8,000 feet tall from the bottom of the ocean. The comparison of these islands
shows the gradual movement of plates above the hot spot due to the gradual aging of the sediment
rock on the islands, gradually decreasing in age starting with Kauai.
The difference between volcanoes formed through hot spots compared to those formed by
submerging tectonic plates is that the magma released in volcanoes from hot spots has different
characteristics than other volcanoes. For instance, the magma is released due to its ability to
continually break through the lithosphere, rather than being pressured by the sliding of the tectonic
plates. Both types of volcanoes are similar because of the fact that they both are temporary features
on the planet due to the constant motion of the plates and the cooling of the lithosphere beneath the
tectonic

How To Achieve Homelessness In Canada
Something I would like to see changed in the Canadian public policy is to implement ways for all
Canadians to have sustainable housing. The government is for the people. Our country has more
than enough resources that none of its citizens should be without a home and homeless people
should not be viewed at or treated in another way than others. We are all human. Looking back at
chapter 1 in Staying Alive , epidemiologists were trying to convey the overall message that
inequality is bad for our health and that each individual must have the basic needs to survive. This
relates back to the issue of homelessness, as they are ones who do not have the basic needs to
survive. The most commonly used measure of inequality is that of income differences (Raphael,
2014, p.24).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you are living in a small neighborhood, most of the people are comparable economically.
Having enough food and clean water and shelter takes precedence over economic justice. For
countries with a low GDP, life expectancy estimates tend to increase with increasing GDP, which
can indicate that everyone is getting the basic necessities of life and living standards are
improving (Raphael, 2014, p. 26). When I came across Box 1.1: What Produces Health in a
Population , it strikes me thinking that the homeless population do not have access to this. For
example, the provision of the basic needs (food, water, shelter, security), provision of caring and
sharing which is measured by the distribution of wealth, resources, and income, access to basic
health care services, cultural elements of social harmony, and a focus on early life (Raphael,
2014, p.26). Knowing that these homeless people are not able to live somewhere with a roof
above their head with a guardian taking care of them is quite alarming and

  • 2. Enzyme Concentration And Incubation Time The objective of this experiment was to determine if N acetyl B D hexosaminidase isolated from rat testes exhibits Michaelis Menten kinetics. This was determined by first deciding the optimal enzyme concentration and incubation time, 1.32*10 5 ОјM/mL and 60 mins, respectively. The enzyme was then reacted with varying concentrations of 4 nitrophenyl N acetyl B D glucosamine enzymesubstrate and a Michaelis Menten plot was generated. Once it was determined that N acetyl B D hexosaminidase follows Michaelis Menten kinetics by exhibiting a hyperbolic curve, a Lineweaver Burk plot was generated and kinetic parameters Vmax, Km, Kcat, and Kcat/Km ratio were calculated. The parameters Vmax, Km, Kcat, and Kcat/Km ratio were determined to be 165 Ојm/mL/min, 0.145 mM, 2.08*105 s 1, and 1.43*106 mM 1 s 1, respectively. N acetyl B D hexosaminidase was proven to follow Michaelis Menten kinetics, however, the calculated enzymatic parameters did not aligned with literature values. INTRODUCTION Enzyme kinetics is a field of study that allows for enzymes catalytic role within reactions to be quantified. Quantifying enzymes catalytic role provides a means to characterize enzymes through various lenses. Enzyme kinetics can be studied through the use of multiple kinetic parameters. Km, Vmax, Kcat, and the ratio of Kcat/Km can be determined to accurately quantify and measure aspects of an enzyme within a specific reaction. These parameters can further describe defining features of enzymes such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Unlocking Congress, By Michael Golden Recently many people believe that congress has not been working efficiently. Over the past couple of years the amount of laws passed has been at an all time low, and Congress has been receiving mostly negative reviews from the American public. In his book Unlock Congress, Michael Golden discusses many of the problems that have been negatively affecting Congress. Golden then offers many different solutions that he believes will help Congress work more smoothly. Golden discusses many different problems of the legislative branch. One of the first things he talks about is the four defects, and the three effects of the defects. He refers to this as the 4 3. The first defect he talks about is the money flood. This is arguably one of the biggest defects of the legislature. While the three other defects only affect the House of Representatives or the Senate, the money flood affects all 535 members (Golden 2015). Most of the money raised by these members is paid by special interests groups, and all the money they receive is legal. In 2012 the money the House and Senate raised was more than $1.8 billion, and special interest groups accounted for $400 million of that (Golden 2015). This is scary because it means that politicians have to spend more of their time negotiating with small amounts of people who are able to give large sums of money, rather than most of the American public who can only afford to donate small amounts of money. This is alarming because it implicates them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The news was on in every house, reporters saying Convicted of robbery, Emily Stanford seen running down the streets of New York. The last we saw her was she was heading down to the bus stations. If anyone has any information on where she is going please call the police station. Emily ran towards the train station desperate to get there before the police caught up to her. She walked up to the line and waited impatiently. Every sound made her on edge, when it was finally her turn she pulled her hood closer to her face. One ticket for Cold Spring please. Emily said quickly, the lady in the ticket booth gave her her ticket and directed her to the bus platform. Emily quickly and quietly walked over to the bus and took her seat. A few hours later the bus stopped and announced its destination, Emily got off the bus and walked quickly down the street looking for any opportunity to get somewhere to sleep without getting noticed. She walked past a TV shop and in the window the TV was playing. The same news playing from earlier that day, she wished every thing would just disappear and leave her alone for at least one day. She eventually found a small quiet motel, she got a nice room. After she got settled into the room she got the things she needed out of her backpack. The battery gains power from being plugged into a typical electric outlet. The batteries are also connected to the pedals the driver pushes down. When the pedal is pushed, the controller in the car pulls the electricity the battery is holding and applies it to the engine to power the vehicle A car fueled by a typical gasoline engine runs differently than an electric. Instead of having a battery to power the engine, the car uses an internal combustion unit to propel the car. The gasoline that the owner adds to the vehicle is heated by the combustion unit and is mixed with oxygen to power the engine. When the driver pushes the pedal down, that activates the combustion unit. The fuel source of an electric vehicle is electricity. This can come from a variety of sources. The car gains if from a fueling station or from the owners electrical outlets. The main characters of the book are controlled by fate s compelling arm of extraordinary muscular power (1), weakly resisting the influence of their own sexuality, and of society and nature around them. Jude s world is one in which only the fittest survive, and he is clearly not equipped to number amongst the fittest. In keeping with the strong Darwinian undercurrents that run through the book, a kind of natural selection ensures that Jude s offspring do not survive to procreate either. (3) Although the Widow Edlin s words refer to Jude s physical status, Hardy is also using them to comment on Jude as a societal and intellectual being. On that level too, he was clearly not fit enough to emerge triumphantly from the struggles of Darwinian society. If Hardy s message is that only the fittest can escape nature and society s cruelties, then one must ask, which of the characters in the novel is most successful in the competitive atmosphere? Phillotson certainly achieves some measure of professional success as a schoolmaster, but like Jude, he too was unable to break into the echelons of university academia. Furthermore, despite marrying Sue, his union with her was less than successful. One gets the sense that in his one sided love for Sue, Phillotson was swept along powerlessly by the tides of his own sexuality just as Jude was. • 11. Freedom Writers Film Analysis The film The Freedom Writers was released in 2007 and was directed by Richard LaGravanese. Richard used multiple film techniques to help the viewers understand how the characters are feeling, their relationships with other characters and what their personality is like. These techniques include camera shots, costume, and lighting, and they were helpful to create a theme of perseverance. In one scene, room 203 is spending a lot of time to raise money so Miep Gies, an elderly lady who lived through World War II and helped hide Anne Frank , can come visit them. After a dance concert and a bake sale, both of which were very popular, they had raised enough for Gies to travel to America. During their struggle to fundraise, Margaret the head teacher would continuously complain to the principle that they shouldn t be able to do so, to no avail. When Miep arrives, students have created a big, bright sign, welcoming her to their school, and they all listen with rapt attention as she tells them her experience in the war. A tracking shot was used as Margaret marched to the principal s office three times and the camera followed her as she moved. A tracking shot attracts the audience s attention to what the camera is focusing on, which in this case is Margaret. A long shot being incorporated into the tracking shot tells the audience that the setting is important as well, and the long shot helps the viewer understand the emotion of the characters as we ... Shake And Stir By William Shakespeare Shake and Stir Responding Task Shake and Stir Theatre Company is a compelling theatrical voice which aspires to render Shakespeare s plays to appease modern audiences. However, William Shakespeare penned his last play 400 years ago; despite this, his plays and sonnets are as alive today as they were in the 16th and 17th Centuries. Shakespeare s plays still appeal to modern society because of the universality of the dramatic themes love, deceit, political endorsement, honour, ambition and courage humans still experience these emotions which give Shakespeare a foothold in modern times. Shake and Stir sequenced together an array of modified scenes from Shakespeare s most iconic plays, to implore dramatic meaning: Shakespearean text can be rendered to engross modern audiences while maintaining its integrity and Elizabethan charm. Great Shakes is staged in a graveyard, where three year ten students, Betty, Brock and Ben are incarcerated. However, after appearances from several supernaturals, they are returned to their everyday lives, but not before they manipulate Shakespeare s tragedies, comedies and histories to engage contemporary audiences. • 13. The Music Of Bali And Its History, Beliefs, And Values,... Introduction Gamelan is a term for various types of orchestra played in Indonesia. As Indonesia entails 17000 islands, there are many different styles of gamelan, and no gamelan orchestra is considered to be the same as another (See Y S, 2000). The music of Bali a Hindu island afloat in a Muslim sea was described by the American composer Colin McPhee as the stirring mystery of a thousand bells (Gordon, 1994). Varieties of gamelanare distinguished through tunings, style, cultural context and the collection of instruments used. The varieties are generally grouped geographically, with certain styles being shared by nearby ensembles, therefore leading to a regional style (See Y S, 2000). Most news stories are focused on a questionable school policy that fails to have reasonable judgment and punishment for students involved. Recent cases in the news, like the Brock Turner case has turned viral due to the publicity and exposure it had among young people. This particular case was something that was so real to students in both high school and college, that millennial s began to alter their perception of how insensitively harassment cases are handled. The Title XI policy that is being enforced in school systems now, is a policy that has been up for debate by those who enforce the policy and those the policy effects for years now. The policy belongs to the education amendments of 1972. One might say that the policy is outdated. Although the policy has seen some updates to its history, the language of the act is irrelevant in context to current situations the school systems are facing now. The question remains, how does one change the policy and what policies need to be made. The policy itself states that, No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or ... Is there truly any justice in the novel The Stranger, written by Albert Camus? This is a question that naturally protrudes throughout the novel, as it is not abundantly clear what Meursault, the protagonist, was, in fact, put on trial for. At the beginning of the second part of the narrative, it is understood that he is put on trial for the murder of an Arab; however, it later comes to our attention that the murder was not the primary reason of his trial, and perhaps not even an essential one for that matter. The answer is simple: it does not relate to the murder of the Arab. Being the representative of society, the jury opposes Meursault and accuses him of not conforming to society s natural ways, and being what we nowadays refer to as the odd one out . They exclude him from society for his odd clear cut and sincere demeanor, and for his manifestation of an inexpressive character. Another example is the moment in which the magistrate, a local member of the judiciary having limited jurisdiction, especially in criminal cases, questioned Meursault. In this particular scene, the magistrate changes the topic rather abruptly from his love for Maman, to which he responded he loved the same as anyone (p. 67), to the murder scene. What followed was a vast discussion on Meursault s belief in God, which he felt rather apathetic about; however, the magistrate, waving a crucifix to his face refers to him as the antichrist (p. 71). And later, during the trial, the judge and the prosecuting attorney seem more intrigued by the fact that Meursault did not grieve at his mother s funeral and got involved with Marie the day after it, than the actual act that had been committed: the assassination of a man. The majority of the witnesses that had been called only supported the argument of his callous nature, as they very well knew that Meursault was frighteningly candid, and could not, or would not, create a ... The Communist Manifesto Calling On The Workers Of The World Few events in history capture the attention of scholars and the general populace alike more than revolutionary contentious politics. Revolts and social movements have for centuries brought about the most radical of changes to the political order of societies, at times even engulfing entire regions of the world in a contagious, fevered upheaval. Revolutionaries have fought not only against political systems and institutions such as aristocratic and colonial rule; they have also fought for their beliefs, values, and ideals. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The Communist Manifesto calling on the workers of the world to unite. Revolutionaries radicalized by the ideas of liberalism and nationalism took to the barricades as socialists promoting the concept of regional and world revolution helping to spark the modern spread of the notion referred to as revolutionary waves . Due to the change in economic exportations from agricultural to mechanized products, Britain s society began to change as people migrated to work in factories. The migration of the newfound middleclass led to mass urbanization of various areas in England which contrasted the previous quintessential English countryside that had dominated the nation. Through the expansion of mechanical goods, the countryside lost land to factories and the environment was also deeply affected by the influx of smoke climbing into the air. Contrary to the environmental problems, the British were experienced economic glory as the became a superpower in the advancing technologies. Steele was accused of hypocrisy and mocked for the differences between his attitude precepts and genial convivial practice. In Steele s plays the moralistic tract would be echoed. Later that same year, Steele wrote his first comedy The Funeral or Grief A la mode. It was successfully performed at Drury Lane. This play made his reputation look good and was noticed by King William and the Whig leaders. Late in 1703, his second comedy, The Lying Lover was the only stage failure Steele had. It only had six runs. In 1705, Joseph Addison helped Steele with his third comedy called The Tender Husband. It was also a success, might have been because Addison put in his part by helping Steele. On August 12, 1709, Steele had released his paper called The Tatler, to be published thrice weekly. It continued with Addison s help. The Tatler issues were authored by Steele. Addison writing about 46 on his own and working with Steele he had about 36 done. The Tatler unfortunately discontinued on January 2, 1711. • 44. The Feminism Of Harriet Jacobs Nehemiah Walls Oct. 29, 2016 Eng.333 The Feminism of Harriet Jacobs Since the early annuls of history minority groups have always faced opposition for the dominating forcing. As a counter rebuttal movements and uprisings usually occurred in order to correct and promote better treatment within these oppressed groups. Feminism served as a mechanism to promote equity amongst gender, sexual, ethnic, and even economic lines. Notwithstanding, there still looms bigotry and oppression from the heavily dominated ideals of the elite patriarchy. Harriet Jacobs s personal narrative, Incidents in the Life of Slave Girl unveils the objectification, exploitation, and feminist perceptions of liberation from the reins of a heavily dominated white patriarchal society during the 19th century through the experiences of the main character Linda Brent. How did Jacobs reveal the hardships that slave women faced through the eyes of Linda Brent? While captive black women faced constant sexual encroachments by their slave holders, Richard Follett, author of the article, Lives of Living Death : The reproductive lives of slave women in the cane world of Louisiana stated, despite the enormous burdens that enslavement imposed on them...bondwomen challenged the misogynist assumptions that underpinned plantation practices (Follett pg. 290). Notwithstanding Follett s proposal, Jacobs refute his claims of bondwomen challenging the sexual advancements of their masters. Brent describes a situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book offers information of the policies of New York City, and other large urban centers and their long living policies of zero tolerance policing or order maintenance and how these deal with catching criminals before a crime is committed. These policies have contributed to growing racial tensions and have lowered crime rates nationwide as many departments utilize these methods of catching suspects. However, they have negatively impacted the black and Latino communities as they are concentrated in the low income diverse neighborhoods. The book offers qualitative and quantitative data on the nature of the American criminal justice system and its contributions to this prevalent issue. • 46. Plate Tectonics pg. 1 Plate tectonics is the theory that has been studied for over thirty years that states that the outside layer of Earth are actually large plates, approximately forty kilometers thick, that slide across the magma beneath the exterior of the planet. The theory of plate tectonics explains the enormous amount of volcanic and seismic activity surrounding certain areas of the world, stating that the sliding of these plates either away from each other, sliding past each other, or sliding into each other and causing one of the plates to slide beneath the other. When the plates slide away from each other, new ocean floor is formed. When the plates slide past each other, minor earthquakes will occur. When the plates slide toward each other and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The famous Canadian geologist, J. Tuzo Wilson, was the first to speculate why there was volcanic activity in the middle of a tectonic plate in 1963. Wilson was the first to speculate about the hot spots, or thermal plums. The theory of hot spots is supported by the Hawaiian islands which are located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean plate, also known as the Ring Of Fire due to the increased volcanic activity surrounding the plate. Because the plate has been shifting since the beginning of time, the plate has gradually slid by the hot spot, slowly forming islands across the ocean. One of the earliest islands, Kauai, has magma sediment from over 5.5 million years old, and the newest island, Loihi, which is still submerged beneath the ocean and has yet to reach the surface but still is 8,000 feet tall from the bottom of the ocean. The comparison of these islands shows the gradual movement of plates above the hot spot due to the gradual aging of the sediment rock on the islands, gradually decreasing in age starting with Kauai. The difference between volcanoes formed through hot spots compared to those formed by submerging tectonic plates is that the magma released in volcanoes from hot spots has different characteristics than other volcanoes. For instance, the magma is released due to its ability to continually break through the lithosphere, rather than being pressured by the sliding of the tectonic plates. Both types of volcanoes are similar because of the fact that they both are temporary features on the planet due to the constant motion of the plates and the cooling of the lithosphere beneath the tectonic ... • 47. How To Achieve Homelessness In Canada Something I would like to see changed in the Canadian public policy is to implement ways for all Canadians to have sustainable housing. The government is for the people. Our country has more than enough resources that none of its citizens should be without a home and homeless people should not be viewed at or treated in another way than others. We are all human. Looking back at chapter 1 in Staying Alive , epidemiologists were trying to convey the overall message that inequality is bad for our health and that each individual must have the basic needs to survive. This relates back to the issue of homelessness, as they are ones who do not have the basic needs to survive. The most commonly used measure of inequality is that of income differences (Raphael, 2014, p.24).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you are living in a small neighborhood, most of the people are comparable economically. Having enough food and clean water and shelter takes precedence over economic justice. For countries with a low GDP, life expectancy estimates tend to increase with increasing GDP, which can indicate that everyone is getting the basic necessities of life and living standards are improving (Raphael, 2014, p. 26). When I came across Box 1.1: What Produces Health in a Population , it strikes me thinking that the homeless population do not have access to this. For example, the provision of the basic needs (food, water, shelter, security), provision of caring and sharing which is measured by the distribution of wealth, resources, and income, access to basic health care services, cultural elements of social harmony, and a focus on early life (Raphael, 2014, p.26). Knowing that these homeless people are not able to live somewhere with a roof above their head with a guardian taking care of them is quite alarming and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
