Favorite Brand Paper In marketing the most important factor is the brand value. Majority of
customers prefer a particular brand and want to stick to it for a long time. This is the reason why
every company spend legal amount of money in marketing their product so it can build
relationship with customers which can stick to them for a long time. As far as my personal choice
is concerned, I have many favorite brands for different requirements but for this paper I will chose
my favorite brand which is Tesla Motors.

The Principle Of The Common Law Legal System
Omission is a phrase that is only used correctly when there is a failure to commit an act, or do a
minimal act to which a reasonable person may be expected to do. This essay will show that the
exceptions added to the checklist of omissions should exist, and argue that having no liability for
omissions is defensible.
Firstly, the core principle of the common law legal system involves the principle of legality, also
known as the Rule of Law. Ensuring that no one is superior to law, and establishing that no
person can be punished retroactively by the state; expressed by Lord Bingham No one should be
punished for any act which was not clearly and ascertainably punishable when the act was done .
This principle is set within the English legal system in order to assert fairness and justice. The
exceptions are set in place in order to ensure this principle is upheld, by asserting a duty of care for
certain situations.
One of these exceptions includes the duty of a parent to a child. Section 1 of the Children and
Young Persons Act 1933, created a liability for parents who neglect their child which leads to
harm or death. Gibbins and Proctor, is the leading legal authority on this exception, where
Gibbins and his second wife (Proctor) had failed to feed Gibbin s daughter. Although, Gibbins
was the provider for the family, and gave money to his wife in order to feed her; Proctor hated his
daughter and at trial this was seen as motive for not feeding her. Darling J declared

Violent Video Games Do NOT Contribute to Youth Violence...
Although violent video games are thought to encourage real world violence, they actually help to
prevent it. I am focusing on violent video games and how they affect juveniles because I feel that
this issue needs to be looked at in the criminal justice community. It is an unnecessary distraction to
blame the actions of a disturbed youth on a form of entertainment that has been used by millions of
people without incident. A review article published in The Psychiatric Quarterly found that many
studies which claim to indicate an increase in aggression due to video games are, in fact, biased!
Once the bias is taken into account, the studies no longer find any correlation between youths who
play violent video games and youths who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their research of violent videogames and the effect on children, they have found that the
simplistic belief that exposure to media violence will lead directly to individual violence is clearly
wrong. (Kutner, Olsen, 2008) I am going to ask you to look deeper than this. I assert that although
violent video games are thought to encourage real world violence, they actually help to prevent it.
Level 1: What Games Can Do For You
Video game violence does not cause youth violence and in fact may help to curb this violence.
Violent video games have never been proven to cause youth violence. One of the most looked at
franchises in video game history is Grand Theft Auto (GTA). However, since GTA hit the scene
in a big way in 2001, youth violent crime has actually decreased! (Snyder, Sickmund, 2006) By
2003 the GTA franchise had already sold 22 million copies worldwide since the release of GTA
III in 2001. (Take Two Interactive, 2004) GTA games have violence, prostitution, and offensive
language. I believe that allowing adolescents to play these games works as a method of
relaxation and release of stress. Teens and violence have gone hand in hand for years. In the
1990s youth violence hit an all time high. (Snyder, Sickmund, 2006) Since the release of GTA III
we have seen a decrease in youth violence. I believe that the reason for this centers around

Speed of Sound Lab Report

PHYS 1114: College Physics I
Oklahoma City Community College
December 10, 2013
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment is to measure the speed of sound in air and to determine the effects
of frequency on the speed of sound.
Apparatus (equipment used):
Signal generator: manufacturer EMCO, model number SS 1, range 20Hz 2MHz, least count 1Hz
Frequency meter: manufacturer DEADALON CORPORATION, model number N/A, range 20Hz

In this experiment, the signal generator was set so that the frequency meter showed a reading of
1,803 Hz. The microphone was moved to a distance from the speaker so that the oscilloscope
displayed a straight diagonal line. This position was of the microphone was recorded as the initial
position, or beginning of a wavelength. The microphone was then moved farther in the same
direction until the oscilloscope displays the same horizontal line. This position was recorded as
final position, or the end of the wavelength. The distance between the two positions represents one
wavelength for this frequency. This was repeated for frequencies of 2,402 Hz, 3,002, Hz, 3,602
Hz, and 4,201 Hz.
Method continued:
Data analysis: After the positions were recorded for frequencies 1,803 Hz, 2,402 Hz, 3,002 Hz,
3,600 Hz, and 4,201 Hz, the wavelength was determined for each. This was done by subtracting the
initial position from the final position (position final position initial=wavelength). Using the
calculated wavelength, the speed of sound in air at each frequency was determined by multiplying
the wavelength by the frequency (speed of sound=wavelength x frequency). By adding the five
speed values and dividing by the number of speeds, the average speed of sound was calculated.
Then 344 m/s was used as the accepted

Introduction: For my research topic I have chosen this topic to analyse and to investigate about the
mergers and acquisitions of organisations. Do these mergers and acquisitions always bring desired
results or not. Mergers and acquisitions are very common and occur everywhere i.e. in
organizations, administrative units and businesses in all industries and of all sizes specially in
banking sector and in pharmaceutical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example when a manufacture company buy or merge with another component maker company,
called a vertical merge (Stacey, 1970:33).
Literature review: Different tools and techniques in the forms of ratio analysis etc. are used by
scholars to identify the effects of mergers and acquisitions and interestingly different results are
there in the market. Performance can be measured on the basis of long term and short term time
period; long term performance can be checked on the basis of profitability of the firm.
Fundamental analysis of the company with the help of ratio analysis (kumar bansal, 2008)
Motives for mergers and acquisitions: in economic terms a merger or acquisition will only be
worthwhile if combining the two businesses will lead to gains which would not arise if the two
business stayed apart. In financial terms, the present value of bidding business plus, the present
value of target business plus, a gain in terms of increased income or reduced expenses from
combining (Samuels, wilikes and brayshaw, 1996).
Acquisitions as transformation category:
As compared with other types of transformation in a company, the characteristics of an acquisition
is that it can include almost all other transformation categories. The employees in the acquired
organization must go through a number of technical changes: new frame of reference, new
organization, new business model, new rules and processes, different working conditions,
privileges, etc. It

Mavis has two sisters who was removed from parental home to foster home. Her younger brother
was also diagnosed as a schizophrenic which would have added to the chaotic home
environment. In the scenario it seems as if Mavis s siblings were no longer in maintaining
contact with their biological parents. After her parents divorced when she was five, Mavis s
mother did not get custody of the children. It is unclear whether both Mavis and her younger
brother were placed with the father but it is known that Mavis lived with her father and his new
wife. There is indication of conflict between Mavis and her stepmother, as the stepmother kicked
her out when she was eighteen years of age for returning home later than required from a party.
Another element of instability is the suicide of a close friend. After living home Mavis then lived
with the deceased s mother. Her marriage to Howard was also unpredictable due to his drug
dependence and alcoholism. Mavis divorced him soon after the birth of their daughter April. Her
second marriage to John presents as more secure, but is described as weak . She is now caught in a

A Look at Desegregation as a Part of a Larger Phenomenon...
The term melting pot for America came about during the early 1900s in reference to America s
acceptance of all immigrants and races during the time period. America has, since the coining of
the term, proven that it was an artificial label with little resemblance to the truth. Throughout
history a great deal of white Americans practiced seclusion, segregation, and alienation of rights
for non Anglo Saxon peoples. Perhaps none have suffered more than the African Americans at the
hand of Anglo Saxon Americans. In his South Carolina Schools and Colleges Desegregation
manuscript William E. Rone details the hard fought court cases against educational segregation in
South Carolina during the 50s and 60s as well as events which related to those cases. The cases
depict a story of intolerance, disregard for the law with respect to desegregation, and outright harm
to non white Americans. Knowing America s past and present one could say that America is more
akin to an un tossed salad than a melting pot. All the pieces coexisting together, yet perpetually
divided by racial and cultural barriers as well as anger and fear of the unfamiliar. America, and the
South especially, provided substandard segregated schooling and amenities for African Americans
which perpetuated the culture gap and only widened the separation of races in America during the
mid 1900s. One such example of the disparity between white and black schools was busing in
Clarendon County South Carolina. Often

The Fourteenth Amendment And The Sixth Amendment
The originally Bill of Rights protected the rights of citizens from infringement by the federal
government, but made no mention of the states. The Fourteen Amendment, adopted shortly after
the Civil War, protected citizenship and individual rights from infringement by state governments.
Under the Fourteenth Amendment s due process clause, the United States Supreme Court began to
apply the most important rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights against the states. This process
began in the early 1900s and is known as the doctrine of selective incorporation. Duncan versus
Louisiana was the landmark case in which the court incorporated the Sixth Amendment right to a
jury trial against the states. In 1966, Gary Duncan was charged in Louisiana with simple battery, a
misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a three hundred dollar fine. Duncan
requested a jury trial, but at the time, Louisiana granted jury trials only to cases punishable by
execution or imprisonment at hard labor, and the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial had not yet
been incorporated against the states. Duncan s request was denied. He was convicted after a bench
trial and sentenced to sixty days in prison and a ten dollar fine. Duncan appealed to the Louisiana
Supreme Court, but it declined to hear the case. Duncan then petitioned the United States Supreme
Court for review, asserting that the Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments guaranteed his right to a jury
trial. The issue before the Court was

Legacy System Essay
Introduction
The term legacy system has distinct meanings for different individuals. For numerous people, it
describes archaic mainframe or dumb terminal software programs from the 1970s and 1980s
(Weber, 2006). To other individuals, it may infer the client/server applications from the 1990s or
web applications from the late 1990s (Weber, 2006). The chief point is that each one of these
distinct architectures presents different risks that must be thoroughly understood and properly
managed (Weber, 2006).
The aim of this research is to assess security risks with legacy systems. Research has uncovered that

Essay On Iago s Use Of Irony In Othello
Shakespeare s villain, Iago, in his work Othello is perhaps the smartest of all Shakespeare s
antagonists. Iago manages to unsettle the steadfast, level headed Othello, remove jovial Cassio
from his honored position, and plant incriminating evidence against Desdemona all with in the span
of three days without raising suspicion from his friends or his wife. All of this Iagodoes to spite
Othellofor naming Cassio his lieutenant instead of himself. Othello is abundant with irony.
Because Iago is so double sided, during all of his interactions with his friends, mainly Cassio and
Othello, the irony is obvious. Throughout the play Othello, as well as many other characters, refers
to Iago as honest and just (Othello 5.1.33). In reality, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without, Iago s ironic friendship with Cassio and Othello, Iago would not be such an
accomplished villain. Shakespeare goes beyond the basic villian that plots alone in solitude with
Iago. Shakespeare has Iago scheme, plot, and take his revenge all while having seemingly
harmless interactions with a multitude of characters, none of which know his intention. Because
Shakespeare hides Iago s intentions from the rest of the characters, Iago clearly displays two
different personalities. There is the evil villian out to get his revenge, and the helpful, obedient,
and wise friend. Iago is the type of villian that could be anyone, and his interaction with the other
characters makes him endlessly entertaining to the audience. It must be remembered that while
Shakespeare s plays are studied today as classic literature, Shakespeare wrote them to be
performed as entertainment for the general public. It is inroy that fuels Iago s character and makes
the play intriguing to the audience. Because Shakespeare s character is so duplicitous, the
audience can not help but hang on to Iago s every ironic interaction with the other characters.
Without a doubt Shakespeare s mastery of irony is evident in his work Othello , especially in his

Reflection Of Writing Poetry
I have always been interested in systems and structures. As a child I enjoyed the challenge of
writing poetry, the intense structures mirrored in sentence fragments and the chaos of words.
Somewhere along the way this semester I remember listening in on a conversation about
rhyming words, we are obsessed with rhyming. As a lover of poetry I began to ponder why we
love rhyming words so much, my conclusion is that it gives a through line of sound in a chaotic
language. Education is much like poetry, it finds itself grounded in structure but there are little
nuances along the way that allow chaos to form, shifting the ideal into reality. As said by John
Dewey in 1916 in Democracy and Education, ... there is a kind of passivity, willingness to let
experiences accumulate and sink in and ripen which is essential of development... we are all
instructors to realize that quality of mental process, not the production of correct answers, is the
measure of educative growth... (Allen, 2011, p.30). If my brain was a filing cabinet at the start of
the semester everything I thoughtit knew got thrown on the floor, as time passed and I organised my
thoughts new documents began to find their way into the piles, changing the system that was
previously created. Growth, reflection and perception have dominated my thought processes this
semester, the through line is assessment. Assessment regarding learningbut also assessment as
reflection of thought, convergent, divergent and lateral modes of thinking. The three modes of
thinking are as follows described in teachthought.com, convergent being logical and critical
thinking, Divergent being imaginative and creative thinking and lastly, lateral being both
convergent and divergent in balance with each other equalling thinking outside the box (Staff,
2017). When reflecting on my semester it is important to me to consider all areas of growth in my
journey. From the flow of chaos in the classroom to the filing cabinet that holds all my theory and
the mode of thought that I approach my daily activities with.
Understanding the pragmatics of something requires us to first go to the roots, the classroom
culture. At the beginning of the semester I thought of culture being how an external

(which is now Kaliningrad, Russia). Immanuel Kant was one of the most influential philosophers in
the history of Western Philosophy. His contributions to metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and
aesthetics have brought an impact on most philosophical movement that followed him.
He was the fourth oldest of 9 children in a family of artisans. He was originally named Emmanuel
but, after learning Hebrew he changed his name to Immanuel . In his youth, Kant was a solid,
unspectacular student. The family belonged to the Protestant sect of the Pietists, and Kant went to
a Pietist school. The emphasis on reason in Kant s philosophy is sometimes interpreted as a reaction
against his religious education.
Kant was only 5 feet tall, and very thin when reached old age which he attributed to his strict
daily routine. He got up at 5 o clock every day and spent the next hour drinking tea, smoking his
pipe and meditating. From 6 to 7 o clock, he prepared for lectures he gave at home until 9 o clock.
He then worked in his study room until 1 o clock and spent the next three hours dining, usually with
his friends. After his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tension in Chapter 6 of to Kill a Mockingbird
In chapter six; Jem and Dill s inquisitive natures lead them to become rebellious. Their plan was to

mysterious character. Scout joins them on their night time exploration because she is afraid of
being left out. Due to the nature in which they entered the house, Nathan Radley Boo Radley s
brother shoots at them as he thought his house was attacked by burglars. In chapter six of To Kill a

Dystopian Research Paper
Rising Popularity of Dystopian Novels amongst Adolescents The rising popularity of dystopian
novels recently has captivated the attention of young adults and teenagers. Top bestsellers and teen
choice novels of the last few years have seen an increase of numerous dystopian novels in their
ranks. The publication of dystopian novels have become increasingly popular with youth and
adolescent readers alike, producing a new release of high demand series such as The Maze Runner.
The popularity of dystopian novels attracted our attention, so we set out to investigate this

Readers, especially teenagers, can imagine themselves in the world in which the dystopian
character lives and feel like they are actually in the story. This concept makes it easy for them to
relate to the main character. Teenagers love to read dystopian fiction because it s exciting and
interesting! Young adults and teenagers nowadays love the thrill, excitement, and adventure
dystopian novels and movies bring. For example The Maze Runner series, are action filled
books that will bring any reader suspense. The Maze Runner is a fast paced adventure set in a
cruel and violent post apocalyptic world. The protagonist, Thomas is a strong role model who
does not fall easily into peer pressure or give up his own sense of what s right. Part of the
attraction of The Maze Runner is that it is a world in which teenage boys inhabit, a world with
no adults, and the boys make their own rules. The teens in the Maze Runner are stranded in a
huge Maze and arrive from a box with no memories at all, but they are still aware on some level
that they are being held captive and endangered by adults, or the suspicious creators . Some of the
teens in the Maze go insane from fear, the attacks of the monster like Grievers, and the memory of
the world they left behind. With all the events that occur in an adolescent s life, dystopian novels

Drugs and the Music Industry

Drugs and the Music Industry Throughout the years, drugs and music have been as synonymous as
America and baseball. Especially within the past 50 years, this nation has experienced the birth, and
death, of many genres of music due to rampant drug use. Sure, we all know that drugs are bad for
you and that if you abuse them, they will eventually lead to your death, but these substances have
created music that has inspired millions around the world, and who is to say that is a bad thing?
We have all benefited in one way or another from a musicians use of mind altering chemicals or in
some cases, plants, and this is an undeniable fact. Drugs have had an overall positive impact on the

The use of drugs in the music scene was at its most extreme during the Hardcore Punk movement of
the 1980 s. This scene was entirely different from any that was experienced before. Drug use also
held initial significance in the movement; the inherent connection between recreational drug use
and the production of rock music applied to the Hardcore movement just as it appeared in the
music of the 60 s. (Cashbaugh) The punks took any drug that was available to them that was
cheap and hit fast and hard. Inevitably, their drug of choice became speed because, It was cheap,
it was around, and you could play fast music on it. It also curtailed your appetite. In San
Francisco, the Negative Trend guys literally lived on potatoes. (Marzuk) This revolutionary drug
let musicians play for days upon end with no sleep and little need for basic necessities. It may
have taken a toll on their bodies, however the pure, raw energy it created was something never
seen before. Drug use, however, does not increase your creativity. There is no scientific evidence
that shows a direct correlation between drug and alcohol use and the creative parts of your brains.
To the contrary, studies have shown that I actually limits the amount your brain functions.

that when people take drugs, they convince themselves that they have these effects. The drugs

How did this all start? Who could have warned General Washington and his men? Plug in your
headphones and listen closely, and you ll find out soon. In 1729, Lydia Darragh was born in
Dublin, Ireland. This was about the same time North Carolina became a royal colony. She
married William Darragh, a family friend and member of the clergy, in 1753. They moved to
Philadelphia a few years later, settling into a large Quaker community. William became a tutor
and Lydia found work as a midwife. They raised five children, with four others perishing as
infants. Quakers were known for being pacifists, though the Darraghs secretly supported the rebels
and their cause. The plot thickened as British troops marched into Philadelphia in 1777. The
following October General Washington failed to recapture the city, and his troops retreated to
Whitemarsh. The day after, Major John Andre demanded the use of the Darragh s home for
meetings. Lydia s cousin helped persuade them to allow her to stay in her home, though the
youngest of the children were sent to their relatives outside the city. Not only could they continue to
live normally, but spying on British meetings would be much easier. The battle of Princeton was

Healthy Aging In Canada
Aging is inevitable, with age comes certain conditions, and diagnoses that affect healthy aging in
Canadians. In Canada, and across the world, there are institutions that help care for people with
these diagnoses. Nurses are one of the members of the health care team, and they help to try and
reduce risks that can exist in agingCanadians. The purpose of this paper is to explore the risks of
malnutrition in aging Canadians living in institutions who have vascular dementia. Malnutrition
and vascular dementia are serious conditions that do not develop overnight, therefore there are signs
and symptoms to recognize this risk before it escalates. The signs of dementia including

A nurse in an institution could use Bevis when implementing the interventions, for example in the
first intervention, helping the resident identify cutlery, show them how to use it, this demonstrates
teaching. (McMahon, 2009). The second intervention is changing the colour of the plates, this
uses problem solving because when the resident is getting distracted then the implementation of
colours can draw attention to the food. (McMahon, 2009). Lastly the third intervention about
trying to talk to the resident s when they walk away from a meal uses the Bevis nursing tool,
communication. Communicating to the resident helps bring attention to back to the meal
(McMahon, 2009). When implementing interventions there are barriers that must be overcome
in order to make them effective. For the first intervention dealing with helping them use cutlery,
a barrier can be time. This can be an issue because care providers may not want to spend the time
to properly teach the resident and want to do it themselves so that it is faster, it is important that
the nurses be supportive and patient (McGinley, 2015). The second intervention about the
coloured plates can have issues arise regarding money. If it is easier and more affordable for an
institution to only have one colour plates, then having special plates for residents with vascular
dementia could be a challenge. To overcome this, having the family bring in coloured plates if
they are able to could resolve this problem (McGinley, 2015). Lastly, having a nurse sit with a
resident with vascular dementia for the duration of the meal to stop their wandering could be a
challenge because it is unlikely that an institution would be able to have health care professionals
give their complete attention to only one resident. A way to over come this could be to sit a couple

The Problem Of Female Violence
Generally speaking, men are more aggressive in nature than women. In fact, violence is the one
variable of which there are overwhelmingly skewed results proving gender differences. So we may
ask ourselves, why do women strike men inside the house in relatively equal numbers, but nearly
never resort to violenceoutside the home? Women for instance may argue that their aggression
towards men is harmless, and that slapping a man is quite feminine. These explanations may likely
have some validity, but neither addresses motivation for the violence, nor the context in which it
occurs. When in actuality, empirical research on female violence tells another story. Bjorkqvist and
Niemela (1992) provides us with evidence that women are as aggressive as males, but only when
the chance of retaliation is minimal (Shuler, 2010).
The Methodological Problem of Memory Methodological problems, in many cases, may skew the
results. Retrospection is greatly relied upon in Crime Victimization Studies, and bias may extend
itself to these studies as well. Our current interests may derail our accurate account of what actually
happened therefore, retrospection may not be completely reliable. One may argue that men
underreport victimization of violence by women because it is so emasculating and shaming.
Women on the other hand may make false allegations which serves their interest in divorce or child
custody hearings. Both of these assumptions are empirically groundless as evidence

Alan Chalmers s Theory Of Scientific Knowledge
Falsification in Science the Hypothetico deductive method
Scientific knowledge is proven knowledge. Scientific theories are derived in some rigorous way
from the facts of experience acquired by observation and experiment. Science is based on what
we can see and hear and touch, etc. Personal opinion or preferences and speculative imaginings
have no place in science. Science is objective. Scientific knowledge is reliable knowledge because
it is objectively proven knowledge.
Alan Chalmers, What Is This Thing Called Science?, 1982, p.1.
Chalmers represents the traditional inductivist view with his statement on science. An inductivist
makes observations, then creates a general statement that aims to explain the encountered
phenomenon. However, Karl Popper, another scientific philosopher, has completely rejected this
scientific method and has argued against the sole use of induction when conducting scientific
research. Unsatisfied with Chalmers method, and the traditional inductive method in general, he
instead made his own version of the scientific method, dubbed the hypothetico deductive method .
These two scientific methods contrast each other, and to demonstrate their difference Chalmers
statement will be evaluated using the typical view of one who subscribes to Popper s hypothetico
deductive method of falsification. I will then evaluate the two methods, commenting on their
individual limitations and merits.
To contrast the two methods, Popper s

The Themes Of Family In The Movie The Intouchables
Ohana means family . Family means noone gets left behind , is the famous quote from Lilo and
Stitch that perfectly portrays the movie The Intouchables. The theme family is shown many times
in the movie The Intouchables. It is first seen when a man, named Driss, is hired to care for a
paralyzed man and they develop a bond that cannot be broken. It is also seen between Driss and his
step brother. Although these are the main portrayals of family, it is also seen with Driss and his
coworkers. The previous relationships mentioned show family in a different way. The people in
those relationships are not blood related yet still manage to treat each other like family. Being
treated like family is respecting one another, taking care of each other, and never losing touch no
matter how busy life gets. With that being said, family does not always mean being immediate
family. In the Intouchables, family is a common theme found in multiple points of the movie.
The theme family is first shown when Driss first gets hired to work and take care of Philippe.
They get along so easily that their bond forms quickly. They adapted to one another s
personalities so they can joke about one another without someone getting hurt. The first example
of their humor is when Driss asks, Where do you find a paraplegic , where Philippe then replies,
I don t know . Driss finishes by joking, Where you leave him . This is just the beginning of the
blossoming relationship between these two. The fact that Driss did not get fired from this
sketchy joke indicates that Philippe is started to take a liking to Driss. He realizes that Driss
does not make Philippe s handicappedness a roadblock, but rather finds ways to use that and
have fun with it. Since Philippe cannot feel anything from the waist and down, Driss has a little
fun asking questions like, So if you have red ears, it means you re turned on? which leads
Philippe to respond with That s it. Sometimes I even wake up with hard lobes . They both end up
laughing and the audience is able to see the progression of their bond. They are so happy hanging
out with one another. Just like in a family, you can get irritated with each other, but never tired of
one another. Finally, these two men

This happens two ways in both of the stories. In 1984 people are directly brainwashed. Their
subjugated citizens are programmed not only to accept if Big Brother says that 2 + 2 = 5, but
also to believe it. ( Fitzpatrick ). The readers can clearly see it happening to Winston when even
he acknowledges 2 + 2 = 5. The readers watch as Winston actually accepts his own brainwashing.
1984 also includes another form of brainwashing that is less direct. The masses of people are
brainwashed by thinking they are in a constant state of war. World powers become enemies and
allies interchangeably simply to keep the masses in perpetual fear, perpetual industry, and perpetual
order. ( Fitzpatrick ). In Divergent the brainwashing is also indirect and direct. In the movie the
Dauntless are literally brainwashed and taken control of through a special chip implanted in them.
Divergent also shows indirect brainwashing through its faction system. By forcing people to be in
a certain faction it also forces those people to think a certain way. This restricts people s free

The Documentary Stress Silent Killer
The documentary stress silent killer was not only eye opening, but also enhanced the overall
learning experience. As humans, we have a natural response to stress, and we cannot locate the off
switch in regards to turning off the stress. Most often, we stress for no actual psychological
purpose and we are doing so in a relentless manner. After time goes on the stressresponse turns out
to be more impeding than the stressor itself.
A definitive objective boils down to having the right type of stress because in the event that we do
not involve the right kind of stress there are hazardous outcomes. This can incorporate increased
heart rate, high blood pressure and a weak immune system. There is what we call good stress
otherwise known as eustress and bad stress known as distress. Some good stresses I have
participated in are going on rollercoasters and snowboarding and scary movies. I enjoy these
stressors because I get the thrill but it safe controlled setting.
The most interesting data in this documentary were identified with hierarchy in relation to stress.
Stress exists within hierarchy, which is a social construct. A study was conducted which the
position of your career specifically corresponds to the risk of disease and the length of life.

Introduction
Think back to one of your earliest memories, perhaps a memory of being frightened as a young
child, or being delighted by a new experience or sensation. Why is it that we remember certain
events in our life that are triggered by a deep or intense emotion, but we cannot remember what we
had for lunch last Tuesday? The way in which we relate to the world is so heavily influenced by
our memories, and in part by the emotions in which we felt when we experienced said event. If
once as a teen you were nearly hit by a car when crossing a road, you future interactions with road
crossings is probably going to be a slightly more heightened event than if you had never
experienced such an event.
The same phenomenon is evident in the way in which we learn also. If you had to write an
English paper as a teen about the turbulent love story of Romeo and Juliet whilst experiencing a
breakup with your high school sweetheart, the story will probably be attached in your memory
forever, even more so because the emotions expressed in the story are very similar to what you
yourself are experiencing. We have all had the experience of hearing a certain song or smelling a
certain perfume whilst we are experiencing an intense, mind rattling emotion hearing said song in
the future could be like reliving the entire event, physiologically and mentally.
So why is it that we can recall events or

Forms Of Sexual Hypocrisy In George Eliot s Middlemarch
The 19th century literature depicts the bodily desire largely rather than being enunciated explicitly.
The forms of love and desire in this era has philosophical, historical and aesthetic contexts. Visual
arts and literature has shaped love in this time. The Victorian period on one hand where publicly
used to have a respectable discussion on sexuality, on the other hand had undeniable modesty in
matters of speech, gesture and clothing.
There was once a society which is still held above all others to be the paradigm of sexual hypocrisy.
An ostensibly, even ostentatiously virtuous society which furtively broke its own rules of conduct;
a society which had nothing to say on sexual matters but left them but left them to the professionals.
The summary image of Victorian Society is extraordinarily tenacious.
The novel Middlemarch written by George Eliot (1871 1872) enjoyed immense popularity as it
dominated the European Literature in the 18th century. Eliot showcases social values and
personal importance by theorizing desire in her novel. The scene between Dorothea Brooke and
Will Ladislaw in the library at Ludwick, that scene which lends itself to a dynamic representative
reading to desire s function in Eliot s work. In An Erotic s of Detachment: Middlemarch and
Novel reading as a Critical Practice David Kurnick places Dorothea in the role of the restless and
perpetually desirous novel reader. Kurnick argues that Middlemarch as a 19th century novel
depicting English society

Clover Flashbacks
Clover trudges through the brilliant white snow, carefully weaving her way through the tombstones
and flowers of the city s graveyard.
Every headstone is the same polished white marble engraved with the name of the person and the
date they died. Clover knows that all the coffins are the same too, having witnessed many a
homecoming of dark, wooden boxes as a trainee at the academy. Their trainers would stand next to
them, solemn as they recounted the death of the trainee (more often a mangled mess then a human
being) in the coffin floating by with a look that said, This is what happens when you fail.
So they didn t. More often than not, the trainees managed to win the show and return home a hero.
Clover chuckles bitterly as she sits down next to one of the graves, placing a bouquet of red ... Show

She gazes upon the roses, smiling. Clover felt tears streaming down her face, freezing on contact
with the cold winter air. He had always liked red roses.
And when she had seen him march through the crowd of soldiers, her breath caught in her throat.
She couldn t keep fighting. She couldn t, she couldn t, this was Soto, and she wasn t going to kill
him.
But when he called her name, and the fighting stopped, everything became okay. And she found the
same person in his blue eyes.
But it was her who had changed. And even as they built their army, moving on to victory, she
could see the sadness in his eyes, the pain that told her in the year we had been apart; she had
changed for the worse.
The rest of the war was a blur, until the final stage where Ares and the rest of the army were
supposed to come to back them up.
But they weren t fast enough, and the two were left standing there, bleeding and bruised and
battered, but ready to end the fight.
But the backup never came, and the city began their

Essay on A Reflection Upon My Writing
As a student, I write for multiple purposes. Purpose is the key for how my thoughts are dictated on
this blank white sheet. After writing this in my in class journal discussing my transition from five
paragraph writing to actual formation of thoughts without a specific format, I realized that this
process was a larger undertaking than I originally thought. Through endless amounts of essaywriting
the personal academic improvements that have taken place this quarter are indescribable in
comparison to any other academic feat made in my brief but fulfilling college career.

As I received my rough draft with comments back from my teacher, my stomach dropped to the
floor in utter disgust. The amount of red pen on the paper weighed down three sheets to feel as
though I was holding an entire ream of disappointment in my hands. This is where things began
to get tough: The editing process. Taking my writing extremely personally, having to go into a
meeting with the teacher that gave me so much constructive criticism was not humbling at all, it
was just scary. As I sat in his cubicle, he was smiling. As I sit there sweating in anxious bitterness
waiting for him to tell me how he would run this teacher student conference, he smiled! Just as I
thought I was in the clear, he wanted to repeat the essay out loud so I could hear what I wrote.
Just as he said this, my stomach did not only hit the ground, but sank into the pits of Hell. As he
read I tried to stay attentive and sentence after sentence I would write down small corrections for
grammar and syntax errors. After the reading, a discussion about my writing style occurred and
this is where the ugly turned pretty. I had a list of corrections laying on my lap and for the first
time, I had someone to talk to about my writing and the corrections I needed to make. I remember
sitting there realizing sentence by sentence spewing out of my mouth, a fountain of new ideas that
I could barely get down in time before they swam away. I had never had a teacher so

Salicylic Acid Testing Observations
Salicylic Acid Testing Observations
The indicator that showed the presence of Salicylic Acid in the aspirin was the change in color
from white to dark purple. The color that indicated the lack of Salicylic Acid was light yellow.
Conclusion
The weight of crude aspirin obtained from 4g of Salicylic Acid was 4.74g. After recrystallization,
approximately 2.9g of recrystallized aspirin was obtained. After calculating the molar mass of
Salicylic Acid and aspirin, the theoretically obtainable weight of aspirin was 5.217g. The
percentage of theoretical crude aspirin obtained was 90.85%. The percentage of theoretical
recrystallized aspirin obtained was 55.58%. During the Salicylic Acid testing, the crude aspirin
tested positive by changing to dark purple color, which occurs due to the Salicylic Acid reacting
with methanol and iron(III) chloride. After recrystallizing the crude aspirin, the aspirin was
tested negative by changing to light yellow color. There is a possibility that these results are not
entirely accurate due to human error. A few of the steps that require the use of a few drops of an

The Flea By John Donne Essay
Poems are very interesting pieces of literature, and can sometimes be hard to understand. To be
able to understand poems, it is important to look at the physical parts, the intellectual parts, and
how they shape the poem. The author John Donne has written many poems that could be
interpreted in many ways, and are analyzed by many people in the United States and around the
world. John Donne s The Flea is a good example of a poem that can be analyzed for its physical
and intellectual parts, and how they work together to make the poem what it is because it is
descriptive, and can be interpreted in many ways. First, it is important to look at the physical
parts of a poem. Donne s The Flea is comprised of three stanzas, and twenty seven lines total. The
poem talks about a lover and a beloved, and how the love that the lover feels is requited by the
beloved. This poem differs from sonnets in the way that the love in a sonnetis unrequited, but the
love in this poem is requited, as was talked about in class. In the first stanza, there are nine lines,
and each line rhymes with the line after it. For example, line three rhymes with line four at the end
with the words thee and be. This continues for the rest of the stanza the last three lines of the stanza
in which all three rhymewith the words woo, two, and do. This rhyme scheme is also shown
throughout the rest of the poem. In each stanza, the last three line are indented to show that they

Spirits Of The Forest Analysis
Lemurs are creatures that are solely found on the island of Madagascar and islands off the east
coast of Africa. These species have diversified greatly into niches because of no competition
from other primates (since other primates are not present on the island). In the documentary,
Spirits of the forest (Lemurs), several species physical and behavioral adaptations are described.
Some of these species include the mouse, ring tailed, sifakas, and Indris lemurs. Lemurs are
described to resemble dog like primates whose eyes are faced forward. This physical
characteristic contributes to binocular vision, which helps lemurs gauge the distance between
trees. They have strong olfactory capabilities compared to other primates and bond by grooming
one another. Ring tailed lemurs are more terrestrial than arboreal. Females are the dominant
gender in their society. They form close troops of about ten to twelve, or even possibly more than
twenty members of each troop. Daily, ringtails spend part of their time on the ground in the dry
forest and bush. Their physical features include long tails with white and black rings. Their tails are
held high which helps hold the troop together. Ringtails spend a part of their time on the ground

They have distinctly high pitched alarm calls that signal the threat of predators that target their
young. From the documentary, this specie seems to reside in both the dry forest and lush
rainforests. They rely heavily on scent marking to identify their home range. Their locomotion is
leaping from tree to tree. In terms of their young, the offspring suckles for three to months but as
they grow, tend to explore more and more. When twins are born it indicates a rich supply of food.
In particular, they eat mud from termite mounds for nutrition and forage on the ground eating
spiders, and pods of trees, leaves, shoots, and

World Wrestling History
So the history of world wrestling goes back a long time. It was the first sport to ever be created.
The first real traces of the development of wrestling date back to the times of the Sumerians,
over 5,000 years ago. There are also many historical and archaeological traces of wrestling in
Ancient Egypt. Drawings were discovered in Ancient Egypt in the tombs of Beni Hassan
representing 400 couples of wrestlers. These drawings witness the existence of corporations of
wrestlers in Ancient Egypt, wrestling rules, and refereeing codes (United World Wrestling). For the
Greeks, wrestling was a science and a divine art , and it represented the most important training for
young men. Athletes wrestled naked, with their bodies coated in olive oil and... Show more content

The Test Measure Innate Intelligence
Application of Theory
When one speaks of intelligence or how bright another person is, the often quoted figure is the IQ
or intelligence quotient. It is the most often used standard of how smart a person is. This paper
shall look at what intelligence tests measure, how the IQ tests measure intelligence and interrogate
their history. It shall then apply the tests to school policy and hence evaluate their validity.
There are a slew of tests that attempt to measure how intelligent human beings are. They all
measure different aspects and those factors will be covered here. One of the misconceptions is that
the tests measure inborn intelligence. Few of the activities are designed for that purpose. They
actually measure a person s interaction with the environment and what they have learned from that
interaction. The most common tested aspect is critical thinking. Instead of straightforward
questions, intelligence tests offer questions with a twist. It is assumed that the most intelligent
people will see obvious flaws in the obvious answers (Steinberg Williams, 2015). Some intelligence
tests also measure reflexes, both mental and physical. The assumption is quick reaction times
reflect an active brain and in the line of thinking, a more intelligent person.
One would assume that intelligence testing in the United States began with psychiatrists or
government officials. It was actually a football coach who coached the University of South
California at the start of the century. He

Ap English Literature
Throughout the history of English literature there has been a distinguished group of outcasts
known as the other. The characters who are typically labeled the others are individuals that are
perceived by a larger group as not belonging and are flawed in an essential way. The larger group

Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay, to win Baba. Was it a fair price? The
answer floated to my conscious mind before I could thwart it: He was just a Hazara, wasn t he?

in day to day life. I d hear Hassan shuffling around the kitchen in the morning, hear the clinking of
silverware, the whistle of the teapot. I d wait to hear the door shut and only then I would walk

  • 3. The Principle Of The Common Law Legal System Omission is a phrase that is only used correctly when there is a failure to commit an act, or do a minimal act to which a reasonable person may be expected to do. This essay will show that the exceptions added to the checklist of omissions should exist, and argue that having no liability for omissions is defensible. Firstly, the core principle of the common law legal system involves the principle of legality, also known as the Rule of Law. Ensuring that no one is superior to law, and establishing that no person can be punished retroactively by the state; expressed by Lord Bingham No one should be punished for any act which was not clearly and ascertainably punishable when the act was done . This principle is set within the English legal system in order to assert fairness and justice. The exceptions are set in place in order to ensure this principle is upheld, by asserting a duty of care for certain situations. One of these exceptions includes the duty of a parent to a child. Section 1 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933, created a liability for parents who neglect their child which leads to harm or death. Gibbins and Proctor, is the leading legal authority on this exception, where Gibbins and his second wife (Proctor) had failed to feed Gibbin s daughter. Although, Gibbins was the provider for the family, and gave money to his wife in order to feed her; Proctor hated his daughter and at trial this was seen as motive for not feeding her. • 4. Violent Video Games Do NOT Contribute to Youth Violence... Although violent video games are thought to encourage real world violence, they actually help to prevent it. I am focusing on violent video games and how they affect juveniles because I feel that this issue needs to be looked at in the criminal justice community. It is an unnecessary distraction to blame the actions of a disturbed youth on a form of entertainment that has been used by millions of people without incident. A review article published in The Psychiatric Quarterly found that many studies which claim to indicate an increase in aggression due to video games are, in fact, biased! Once the bias is taken into account, the studies no longer find any correlation between youths who play violent video games and youths who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In their research of violent videogames and the effect on children, they have found that the simplistic belief that exposure to media violence will lead directly to individual violence is clearly wrong. (Kutner, Olsen, 2008) I am going to ask you to look deeper than this. I assert that although violent video games are thought to encourage real world violence, they actually help to prevent it. Level 1: What Games Can Do For You Video game violence does not cause youth violence and in fact may help to curb this violence. Violent video games have never been proven to cause youth violence. One of the most looked at franchises in video game history is Grand Theft Auto (GTA). However, since GTA hit the scene in a big way in 2001, youth violent crime has actually decreased! (Snyder, Sickmund, 2006) By 2003 the GTA franchise had already sold 22 million copies worldwide since the release of GTA III in 2001. (Take Two Interactive, 2004) GTA games have violence, prostitution, and offensive language. I believe that allowing adolescents to play these games works as a method of relaxation and release of stress. Teens and violence have gone hand in hand for years. In the 1990s youth violence hit an all time high. (Snyder, Sickmund, 2006) Since the release of GTA III we have seen a decrease in youth violence. The microphone was moved to a distance from the speaker so that the oscilloscope displayed a straight diagonal line. This position was of the microphone was recorded as the initial position, or beginning of a wavelength. The microphone was then moved farther in the same direction until the oscilloscope displays the same horizontal line. This position was recorded as final position, or the end of the wavelength. The distance between the two positions represents one wavelength for this frequency. This was repeated for frequencies of 2,402 Hz, 3,002, Hz, 3,602 Hz, and 4,201 Hz. Method continued: Data analysis: After the positions were recorded for frequencies 1,803 Hz, 2,402 Hz, 3,002 Hz, 3,600 Hz, and 4,201 Hz, the wavelength was determined for each. This was done by subtracting the initial position from the final position (position final position initial=wavelength). Using the calculated wavelength, the speed of sound in air at each frequency was determined by multiplying the wavelength by the frequency (speed of sound=wavelength x frequency). By adding the five speed values and dividing by the number of speeds, the average speed of sound was calculated. Then 344 m/s was used as the accepted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. A Look at Desegregation as a Part of a Larger Phenomenon... The term melting pot for America came about during the early 1900s in reference to America s acceptance of all immigrants and races during the time period. America has, since the coining of the term, proven that it was an artificial label with little resemblance to the truth. Throughout history a great deal of white Americans practiced seclusion, segregation, and alienation of rights for non Anglo Saxon peoples. Perhaps none have suffered more than the African Americans at the hand of Anglo Saxon Americans. In his South Carolina Schools and Colleges Desegregation manuscript William E. Rone details the hard fought court cases against educational segregation in South Carolina during the 50s and 60s as well as events which related to those cases. The cases depict a story of intolerance, disregard for the law with respect to desegregation, and outright harm to non white Americans. Knowing America s past and present one could say that America is more akin to an un tossed salad than a melting pot. All the pieces coexisting together, yet perpetually divided by racial and cultural barriers as well as anger and fear of the unfamiliar. America, and the South especially, provided substandard segregated schooling and amenities for African Americans which perpetuated the culture gap and only widened the separation of races in America during the mid 1900s. One such example of the disparity between white and black schools was busing in Clarendon County South Carolina. Often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Fourteenth Amendment And The Sixth Amendment The originally Bill of Rights protected the rights of citizens from infringement by the federal government, but made no mention of the states. The Fourteen Amendment, adopted shortly after the Civil War, protected citizenship and individual rights from infringement by state governments. Under the Fourteenth Amendment s due process clause, the United States Supreme Court began to apply the most important rights guaranteed in the Bill of Rights against the states. This process began in the early 1900s and is known as the doctrine of selective incorporation. Duncan versus Louisiana was the landmark case in which the court incorporated the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial against the states. In 1966, Gary Duncan was charged in Louisiana with simple battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a three hundred dollar fine. Duncan requested a jury trial, but at the time, Louisiana granted jury trials only to cases punishable by execution or imprisonment at hard labor, and the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial had not yet been incorporated against the states. Duncan s request was denied. He was convicted after a bench trial and sentenced to sixty days in prison and a ten dollar fine. Duncan appealed to the Louisiana Supreme Court, but it declined to hear the case. Duncan then petitioned the United States Supreme Court for review, asserting that the Sixth and Fourteenth Amendments guaranteed his right to a jury trial. The issue before the Court was ... Because Shakespeare hides Iago s intentions from the rest of the characters, Iago clearly displays two different personalities. • 19. Reflection Of Writing Poetry I have always been interested in systems and structures. As a child I enjoyed the challenge of writing poetry, the intense structures mirrored in sentence fragments and the chaos of words. Somewhere along the way this semester I remember listening in on a conversation about rhyming words, we are obsessed with rhyming. As a lover of poetry I began to ponder why we love rhyming words so much, my conclusion is that it gives a through line of sound in a chaotic language. Education is much like poetry, it finds itself grounded in structure but there are little nuances along the way that allow chaos to form, shifting the ideal into reality. As said by John Dewey in 1916 in Democracy and Education, ... there is a kind of passivity, willingness to let experiences accumulate and sink in and ripen which is essential of development... we are all instructors to realize that quality of mental process, not the production of correct answers, is the measure of educative growth... (Allen, 2011, p.30). If my brain was a filing cabinet at the start of the semester everything I thoughtit knew got thrown on the floor, as time passed and I organised my thoughts new documents began to find their way into the piles, changing the system that was previously created. Growth, reflection and perception have dominated my thought processes this semester, the through line is assessment. Assessment regarding learningbut also assessment as reflection of thought, convergent, divergent and lateral modes of thinking. The three modes of thinking are as follows described in teachthought.com, convergent being logical and critical thinking, Divergent being imaginative and creative thinking and lastly, lateral being both convergent and divergent in balance with each other equalling thinking outside the box (Staff, 2017). When reflecting on my semester it is important to me to consider all areas of growth in my journey. From the flow of chaos in the classroom to the filing cabinet that holds all my theory and the mode of thought that I approach my daily activities with. • 21. Critique Of Immanuel Kant Immanuel Kant was born on April 22, 1724 in KГ¶nigsberg, Prussia where he stayed all of his life (which is now Kaliningrad, Russia). Immanuel Kant was one of the most influential philosophers in the history of Western Philosophy. His contributions to metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and aesthetics have brought an impact on most philosophical movement that followed him. He was the fourth oldest of 9 children in a family of artisans. He was originally named Emmanuel but, after learning Hebrew he changed his name to Immanuel . In his youth, Kant was a solid, unspectacular student. The family belonged to the Protestant sect of the Pietists, and Kant went to a Pietist school. The emphasis on reason in Kant s philosophy is sometimes interpreted as a reaction against his religious education. Kant was only 5 feet tall, and very thin when reached old age which he attributed to his strict daily routine. He got up at 5 o clock every day and spent the next hour drinking tea, smoking his pipe and meditating. From 6 to 7 o clock, he prepared for lectures he gave at home until 9 o clock. (Cashbaugh) The punks took any drug that was available to them that was cheap and hit fast and hard. Inevitably, their drug of choice became speed because, It was cheap, it was around, and you could play fast music on it. It also curtailed your appetite. It may have taken a toll on their bodies, however the pure, raw energy it created was something never seen before. Drug use, however, does not increase your creativity. There is no scientific evidence that shows a direct correlation between drug and alcohol use and the creative parts of your brains. To the contrary, studies have shown that I actually limits the amount your brain functions. Who could have warned General Washington and his men? Plug in your headphones and listen closely, and you ll find out soon. In 1729, Lydia Darragh was born in Dublin, Ireland. This was about the same time North Carolina became a royal colony. She married William Darragh, a family friend and member of the clergy, in 1753. They moved to Philadelphia a few years later, settling into a large Quaker community. William became a tutor and Lydia found work as a midwife. They raised five children, with four others perishing as infants. Quakers were known for being pacifists, though the Darraghs secretly supported the rebels and their cause. The plot thickened as British troops marched into Philadelphia in 1777. The following October General Washington failed to recapture the city, and his troops retreated to Whitemarsh. The day after, Major John Andre demanded the use of the Darragh s home for meetings. Lydia s cousin helped persuade them to allow her to stay in her home, though the youngest of the children were sent to their relatives outside the city. Nurses are one of the members of the health care team, and they help to try and reduce risks that can exist in agingCanadians. The purpose of this paper is to explore the risks of malnutrition in aging Canadians living in institutions who have vascular dementia. A nurse in an institution could use Bevis when implementing the interventions, for example in the first intervention, helping the resident identify cutlery, show them how to use it, this demonstrates teaching. (McMahon, 2009). The second intervention is changing the colour of the plates, this uses problem solving because when the resident is getting distracted then the implementation of colours can draw attention to the food. (McMahon, 2009). Lastly the third intervention about trying to talk to the resident s when they walk away from a meal uses the Bevis nursing tool, communication. Communicating to the resident helps bring attention to back to the meal (McMahon, 2009). When implementing interventions there are barriers that must be overcome in order to make them effective. For the first intervention dealing with helping them use cutlery, a barrier can be time. This can be an issue because care providers may not want to spend the time to properly teach the resident and want to do it themselves so that it is faster, it is important that the nurses be supportive and patient (McGinley, 2015). The second intervention about the coloured plates can have issues arise regarding money. If it is easier and more affordable for an institution to only have one colour plates, then having special plates for residents with vascular dementia could be a challenge. To overcome this, having the family bring in coloured plates if they are able to could resolve this problem (McGinley, 2015). Lastly, having a nurse sit with a resident with vascular dementia for the duration of the meal to stop their wandering could be a challenge because it is unlikely that an institution would be able to have health care professionals give their complete attention to only one resident. A way to over come this could be to sit a couple of residents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Problem Of Female Violence Generally speaking, men are more aggressive in nature than women. In fact, violence is the one variable of which there are overwhelmingly skewed results proving gender differences. So we may ask ourselves, why do women strike men inside the house in relatively equal numbers, but nearly never resort to violenceoutside the home? Women for instance may argue that their aggression towards men is harmless, and that slapping a man is quite feminine. These explanations may likely have some validity, but neither addresses motivation for the violence, nor the context in which it occurs. When in actuality, empirical research on female violence tells another story. Bjorkqvist and Niemela (1992) provides us with evidence that women are as aggressive as males, but only when the chance of retaliation is minimal (Shuler, 2010). The Methodological Problem of Memory Methodological problems, in many cases, may skew the results. Retrospection is greatly relied upon in Crime Victimization Studies, and bias may extend itself to these studies as well. Our current interests may derail our accurate account of what actually happened therefore, retrospection may not be completely reliable. One may argue that men underreport victimization of violence by women because it is so emasculating and shaming. Women on the other hand may make false allegations which serves their interest in divorce or child custody hearings. Both of these assumptions are empirically groundless as evidence ... • 32. Alan Chalmers s Theory Of Scientific Knowledge Falsification in Science the Hypothetico deductive method Scientific knowledge is proven knowledge. Scientific theories are derived in some rigorous way from the facts of experience acquired by observation and experiment. Science is based on what we can see and hear and touch, etc. Personal opinion or preferences and speculative imaginings have no place in science. Science is objective. Scientific knowledge is reliable knowledge because it is objectively proven knowledge. Alan Chalmers, What Is This Thing Called Science?, 1982, p.1. Chalmers represents the traditional inductivist view with his statement on science. An inductivist makes observations, then creates a general statement that aims to explain the encountered phenomenon. However, Karl Popper, another scientific philosopher, has completely rejected this scientific method and has argued against the sole use of induction when conducting scientific research. Unsatisfied with Chalmers method, and the traditional inductive method in general, he instead made his own version of the scientific method, dubbed the hypothetico deductive method . These two scientific methods contrast each other, and to demonstrate their difference Chalmers statement will be evaluated using the typical view of one who subscribes to Popper s hypothetico deductive method of falsification. Family means noone gets left behind , is the famous quote from Lilo and Stitch that perfectly portrays the movie The Intouchables. The theme family is shown many times in the movie The Intouchables. It is first seen when a man, named Driss, is hired to care for a paralyzed man and they develop a bond that cannot be broken. It is also seen between Driss and his step brother. Although these are the main portrayals of family, it is also seen with Driss and his coworkers. The previous relationships mentioned show family in a different way. The people in those relationships are not blood related yet still manage to treat each other like family. Being treated like family is respecting one another, taking care of each other, and never losing touch no matter how busy life gets. With that being said, family does not always mean being immediate family. In the Intouchables, family is a common theme found in multiple points of the movie. The theme family is first shown when Driss first gets hired to work and take care of Philippe. They get along so easily that their bond forms quickly. They adapted to one another s personalities so they can joke about one another without someone getting hurt. The first example of their humor is when Driss asks, Where do you find a paraplegic , where Philippe then replies, I don t know . Driss finishes by joking, Where you leave him . This is just the beginning of the blossoming relationship between these two. The fact that Driss did not get fired from this sketchy joke indicates that Philippe is started to take a liking to Driss. He realizes that Driss does not make Philippe s handicappedness a roadblock, but rather finds ways to use that and have fun with it. Since Philippe cannot feel anything from the waist and down, Driss has a little fun asking questions like, So if you have red ears, it means you re turned on? which leads Philippe to respond with That s it. Sometimes I even wake up with hard lobes . They both end up laughing and the audience is able to see the progression of their bond. They are so happy hanging out with one another. Why is it that we remember certain events in our life that are triggered by a deep or intense emotion, but we cannot remember what we had for lunch last Tuesday? The way in which we relate to the world is so heavily influenced by our memories, and in part by the emotions in which we felt when we experienced said event. • 42. Forms Of Sexual Hypocrisy In George Eliot s Middlemarch The 19th century literature depicts the bodily desire largely rather than being enunciated explicitly. The forms of love and desire in this era has philosophical, historical and aesthetic contexts. Visual arts and literature has shaped love in this time. The Victorian period on one hand where publicly used to have a respectable discussion on sexuality, on the other hand had undeniable modesty in matters of speech, gesture and clothing. There was once a society which is still held above all others to be the paradigm of sexual hypocrisy. An ostensibly, even ostentatiously virtuous society which furtively broke its own rules of conduct; a society which had nothing to say on sexual matters but left them but left them to the professionals. The summary image of Victorian Society is extraordinarily tenacious. The novel Middlemarch written by George Eliot (1871 1872) enjoyed immense popularity as it dominated the European Literature in the 18th century. Eliot showcases social values and personal importance by theorizing desire in her novel. The scene between Dorothea Brooke and Will Ladislaw in the library at Ludwick, that scene which lends itself to a dynamic representative reading to desire s function in Eliot s work. In An Erotic s of Detachment: Middlemarch and Novel reading as a Critical Practice David Kurnick places Dorothea in the role of the restless and perpetually desirous novel reader. The color that indicated the lack of Salicylic Acid was light yellow. Conclusion The weight of crude aspirin obtained from 4g of Salicylic Acid was 4.74g. After recrystallization, approximately 2.9g of recrystallized aspirin was obtained. After calculating the molar mass of Salicylic Acid and aspirin, the theoretically obtainable weight of aspirin was 5.217g. The percentage of theoretical crude aspirin obtained was 90.85%. The percentage of theoretical recrystallized aspirin obtained was 55.58%. During the Salicylic Acid testing, the crude aspirin tested positive by changing to dark purple color, which occurs due to the Salicylic Acid reacting with methanol and iron(III) chloride. • 49. The Flea By John Donne Essay Poems are very interesting pieces of literature, and can sometimes be hard to understand. To be able to understand poems, it is important to look at the physical parts, the intellectual parts, and how they shape the poem. The author John Donne has written many poems that could be interpreted in many ways, and are analyzed by many people in the United States and around the world. John Donne s The Flea is a good example of a poem that can be analyzed for its physical and intellectual parts, and how they work together to make the poem what it is because it is descriptive, and can be interpreted in many ways. First, it is important to look at the physical parts of a poem. Donne s The Flea is comprised of three stanzas, and twenty seven lines total. The poem talks about a lover and a beloved, and how the love that the lover feels is requited by the beloved. This poem differs from sonnets in the way that the love in a sonnetis unrequited, but the love in this poem is requited, as was talked about in class. In the first stanza, there are nine lines, and each line rhymes with the line after it. For example, line three rhymes with line four at the end with the words thee and be. This continues for the rest of the stanza the last three lines of the stanza in which all three rhymewith the words woo, two, and do. This rhyme scheme is also shown throughout the rest of the poem. In each stanza, the last three line are indented to show that they are a little more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These species have diversified greatly into niches because of no competition from other primates (since other primates are not present on the island). In the documentary, Spirits of the forest (Lemurs), several species physical and behavioral adaptations are described. Some of these species include the mouse, ring tailed, sifakas, and Indris lemurs. Lemurs are described to resemble dog like primates whose eyes are faced forward. This physical characteristic contributes to binocular vision, which helps lemurs gauge the distance between trees. They have strong olfactory capabilities compared to other primates and bond by grooming one another. Ring tailed lemurs are more terrestrial than arboreal. Females are the dominant gender in their society. They form close troops of about ten to twelve, or even possibly more than twenty members of each troop. Daily, ringtails spend part of their time on the ground in the dry forest and bush. Their physical features include long tails with white and black rings. • 53. The Test Measure Innate Intelligence Application of Theory When one speaks of intelligence or how bright another person is, the often quoted figure is the IQ or intelligence quotient. It is the most often used standard of how smart a person is. This paper shall look at what intelligence tests measure, how the IQ tests measure intelligence and interrogate their history. It shall then apply the tests to school policy and hence evaluate their validity. There are a slew of tests that attempt to measure how intelligent human beings are. They all measure different aspects and those factors will be covered here. One of the misconceptions is that the tests measure inborn intelligence. Few of the activities are designed for that purpose. They actually measure a person s interaction with the environment and what they have learned from that interaction. The most common tested aspect is critical thinking. Instead of straightforward questions, intelligence tests offer questions with a twist. It is assumed that the most intelligent people will see obvious flaws in the obvious answers (Steinberg Williams, 2015). Some intelligence tests also measure reflexes, both mental and physical. The assumption is quick reaction times reflect an active brain and in the line of thinking, a more intelligent person. One would assume that intelligence testing in the United States began with psychiatrists or government officials.
