They have both been the capitol of Texas at some point in time with Houston being really close is why

was established as a city in 1836 and was founded by the Allen brothers who name the city after the

by Sam Houston, but the capitol life was short and sweet. Because in 1844 it was move back to Austin

Laura Solomon White Lotus
White Lotus by Laura Solomon utilizes symbolism to reveal how individuals should behave. Every
time Kerryn does an immoral action, the lotus reacts and starts to wilt. When Kerryn cheats, The
lecturer did not cotton on but the lotus knew. It shed three leaves and two buds lost their gloss and
began to droop (Solomon 3). The flower realizes Kerryn plagiarizes her essay for her English class
and thus it starts to droop as it does not approve of her actions. The lotus symbolizes serenity,
calmness, and purity, the exact opposite of Kerryn s actions. For instance, when Kerryn decides to
please the lotus by changing her behavior. Once she starts being nice to her boyfriend, The lotus was
glossy, almost glowing. Then, something amazing happened.

Corporate Tax Rate In America
1. One of the major issues we are facing in the US economy is how much we should charge in regards
to the corporate tax rate. Corporate tax rate is imposed by the government and determines how much a
corporate business will pay in taxes at the end of the year. Trump plans on decreasing the corporate tax
rate from 35% to 15%. Out of the 34 countries in the OECD, America ranks first with a 39.1 percent
corporate tax rate, compared to an OECD average of 24.1 percent. Along with trump, I think that we
should reconsider the corporate tax rate. If we were to lower the rate than companies would have more
money to spend and put back into our economy. Although I agree with Trump, there are several factors
that affect this decision and there are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fiscal policy that I suggest we use to address the problem is graduated corporate income. We
should not determine the corporate tax rate as one concrete number. We should decide the rate based
on how big the company is. The policy will state that the first $50,000 of a corporation s profit is
taxed at a 15% and will cap out at 35% for companies that make more than $335,000. Using this
policy will make it so more small businesses will grow because they will not be taxed as much as a
large company that can actually afford it.
5. The monetary policy I suggest we use is to increase the money supply and lower the cost of
borrowing. I believe that this will affect how we calculate the corporate tax rate because if a company
has an easier time getting a loan, and if they have access to more money, we can make the tax rate
higher because they will have more money. The money that we get from taxing these corporations
should be put back into the economy by the government. If we were to keep the tax rates higher we
can use the extra money and put it into things such as; the building of roads, education, and

Communication And Diversity Training Essay
Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science or the Academy of Technological Sciences and
Engineering (Dunstone Williamson, 2012).
Sheppard and Bonneau (2002) summarized the impact on physical working capacity of commonly
encountered gender differences in size, body composition, haemoglobin levels, and muscular strength.
According to the authors, the potential training response of female applicants is likely at least to match
that of their male peers, and the needs of female police recruits are thus best accommodated by
providing every opportunity to augment fitness to the required minimum level. The main weakness of
any current requirement is that most police forces do not yet apply an equivalent criterion to older
incumbent officers, where similar issues may arise.

According to Newton (2006) employees are not a homogenous group but reflect the growing diversity
of the larger population. By recognizing and valuing women and men s differences (such as age,
religion, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, disability, sexual orientation, etc.) and considering their
needs in shaping training and development opportunities, the business stands to benefit from the
diversity of their contributions.
Communication and diversity training regarding gender identity in the workplace should be
comparable to other policy announcements and training initiatives (Boyle, 2005). For instance, if an
employer provides online harassment training that incorporates race and sex, it should also incorporate
gender identity. Supervisory employees should receive diversity training that includes clear examples
of discrimination based on gender identity shortly after starting employment and on a regular basis
thereafter. When an employee transitions at work, these expectations should be

John Coleman And The Rock House Essay
John Coleman Boyd was born March 16, 1802. He settled in Chambers County, Alabama. He
purchased land that was previously held by they Creek Indians and built a house. The original house
was built with native fieldstone by slave labor. The home was known as the Rock House. Under the
rock rooms there was room to store fruit, vegetables, and other produce. There was a smoke house for
curing and preserving meat products. These were all a necessity to survive. In the grove there were log
cabins that were the slave quarters. Today all that remains of the cabins is a lone chimney. John
Coleman Boyd had about 1,900 acres and he acquired other properties. After looking in further it was
shown that John Coleman s total estate was valued at $88,000 and that he owned 42 slaves. John
Coleman told a good friend Sam Jeter that a man should not stay in one place too long. Because of this
John Coleman went to Northeast Texas there he purchased some land. He made his decision to move
to Texas, he got the wagon train to be loaded and ready to leave. The night before they were going to
leave John Coleman suffered a stroke. During his illness John Coleman continued to manage his Boyd
Tank properties by having some slaves pull him around the farm in a rickshaw type cart. During his
illness his wife Elizabeth sold some of his properties in Texas. He later dies on March 2, 1861.

Why Student Loan Is The Cost Of Refinancing
Looking to refinance your student loans? Millions of college graduates around the country stayed with
student loans that had annual percentage rates that were too high. When they signed up for these loans,
they weren t worried about paying them off because graduation seemed so far away. Now the time has
finally come to start repayment. Fortunately there are few good ways to ease the sting of paying back
your student loans. What we are looking for when refinancing student loan is a lower APR, or annual
percentage rate. The APR is a percentage of the total amount of money you borrowed that diminishes
as payments are made towards the loan. Another very important thing you must consider when
refinancing your loans is the cost of refinancing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With good choices, student loan refinance can save you a lot of money.
From the time students found that getting loans to complete their education was easy, more and more
students opted to continue their education. Previously there were many people who could not
complete their education because of the lack of fund. But this is not the case these days. However,
once these students get the degree, they leave college with piles of student loans also. There are many
federal and non federal student loans consolidation programs that help them ease and simplify their
repayment plan. Some think that simply by considering the lowest rate of interest they are done and
they will be able to save lot of money. This is not true. Before selecting the student loan consolidation
company, it is good to consider some essential factors. You have to see that all the terms are beneficial
for you and that too in the long run. Avoid looking for short term benefits unless you are in deep and
severe financial crisis. See that there are no charges and penalties for repaying your installments in
advance. Even if you do not have the job right now, consider these points. This is important because in
near future you are going to get the job and then you will prefer paying off all your loans as fast as
possible. When considering non

Chicago Il. He died May 8 1999 he left behind one son named Matthew (Contemporary Authors

to date with what was going on in the world (http://www.shelsilverstein.com/about/). When I was a
kid . . . I would much rather have been a good baseball player or a hit with the girls. But I couldn t
play ball, I couldn t dance . . . so I started to draw and write. I was lucky that I didn t have anyone to
copy, be impressed by. I had developed my own style (http://www.shelsilverstein.com/about/#). Shel
Silverstein s art may look weird and commercial but he has achieved so much with his three books. (
Kimmel ). It s safe to say that Silverstein s dramatic output is not going to have the enduring appeal of
his famous children s books such as The Giving Tree and Where the Sidewalk Ends (Isherwood).
When researching Shel Silverstein make sure you give him credit for his many talents. Shel was
already good at writing and drawing when he joined the armed forces (Kimmel). He also composed

Religion By John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
Religion is a central theme in John Steinbeck s East of Eden. Religion constantly appears through the
similarities between the Cain and Abel story, the Hebrew word timshel, and the presence of God and
Fate in the novel. Throughout the book, the characters struggle with the ideas of good and evil, and
choice and freewill. As the story unfolds and progresses, we see the characters deal with these things
with religion being the base and the root that the book lays upon.
The biblical story of Cain and Abel plays a central role in the novel East of Eden. In Genesis , Adam
and Eve s sons, Cain and Abel, offered sacrifices to God. The shepherd Abel sacrifices his best lamb,
while the farmer Cain offers grain. Because God prefers Abel s gift over Cain s, Cain becomes
infuriated and kills his brother in a jealous rage.
Adam asked, Do you know where your brother is?
No, I don t, said Cal. . . .
He hasn t been home for two nights. Where is he?
How do I know? said Cal. Am I supposed to look after him? (410)
This exchange between Adam and Cal is a direct parallel with the exchange between God and Cain
that appears in the book of Genesis in the Bible. After Cain murders Abel, God realizes that Abel is
missing and asks Cain where Abel is. Cain retorts, I know not; am I my brother s keeper? Adam and
Cal s reenactment of this conversation links them explicitly to the biblical story and cements Cal and
Aron, respectively, as surrogates for Cain and Abel. The characters of

Nyborg is a city in Denmark located on the island of Funen. Admiral De Ruyter was in direct
command of seventy five men of war making teamwork a huge aspect of how he went about leading
those warships into battle. As well as teamwork, communication was important to Admiral De Ruyter;
it shows with his innovation pertaining to how communication and coordination amongst his fleet was
accomplished by the use of flags. This may seem like a simple idea currently, but back in the
seventeenth century, it was a revolutionary tactic in maintaining coordination amongst a massive size
fleet of seventy five men of war. Nyborg was heavily fortified making the first landing attempt a
failure which forced Admiral De Ruyter to reconsider his tactics (Liefde 180) . As night time
approached, Admiral De Ruyter ordered a few of his men to go out in a couple landing boats in order
to cause confusion by firing their guns making as much noise as they could (Liefde 180) . These men
were also appointed the task of rowing to a certain location on the shore line with their lights on to stir
more confusion amongst their Swedish enemy (Liefde 180). This trick worked in making the Swedish
Army think that an invasion was occurring at that spot causing them to congregate and centralize their
army (Liefde 180). Early the next morning, Admiral De Ruyter made the smartest leadership decision
of this war by quickly sailing north to the city of Kerteminde and landing his men there (Liefde 180).
Admiral De Ruyter was a very good planner and a decision maker when it came to war tactics to
overcome his adversaries. Making the decision to sail north was just one of many good leadership
choices that Admiral De Ruyter committed to in his life. Admiral De Ruyter called for his war ships to

Multilingualism In Canada
In between the countries of Germany and France lies Switzerland, a diverse country with a rich
history. Part of this rich history contributes to the multilingualism of this nation state. Switzerland has

exception of Romansh, hold equal value in the federal government. A reported 63.9% of the Swiss

Purim is celebrated on the 14th day of Adar which was the day the Jewish people celebrated their
survival of Haman s extermination. For the cities that were walled in the time of Joshua it is celebrated
on the 15th, because in the book of Esther a wall city (Shushan) the message of the deliverance of the
extermination did not reach until the day after. The Purim holiday is followed by a fast, the fast honors
Esther s three days of fasting in preparation to be summoned by the king and tell him Haman s plan.
The commandment of the holiday is to hear the reading of the Book of Esther. Pesach also known as
Passover in English is a common Jewish holiday the permits the eating of Chametz that has not
touched water in the last 18 minutes. Chametz are the five major grains which are wheat, rye, barley,
oats and spelt. The reason for this is because when the Jewish people left Egypt they did not have time
to allow their bread to rise which is symbolism for removing the puffiness or pride from our souls.
The holiday is so strict that you may not own Chametz or anything with the five grains, you may not
feed it to pets and or cattle, and derive benefit from it. People go as far ass ridding their house of
chametz several weeks before Pesach, cleaning stoves, scrubbing their fridge, and cleansing anything
that has come in contact with food. Some Jewish people criticize

The idea about a motorcycle club being featured in a book is quite fresh, since I have never read any

Alcatraz was a prison, that was in use from 1934 to 1963. It housed some of the world´s most
dangerous criminals over the span of twenty nine years. I chose to write about Alcatraz because I like
the history of weird and creepy places, which Alcatraz is. Alcatraz is creepy because there are many
claims that people have heard the cries and moans in cell blocks A, B, and C. I also chose to write
about this because I wanted to learn more about Alcatraz. Someday I want to go there. This essay will
explain why an Army prison was turned into a federal penitentiary on Alcatraz Island, who were some
famous inmates that once occupied a cell there and, it will detail some of the attempted escapes from
Alcatraz.
In 1933, the U.S. Army relinquished control of the island of Alcatraz to the U.S. Justice Department
(History.com). At that time the federal government wanted a federal prison that could house a criminal
population [that was] too difficult or dangerous to be handled by other U.S. penitentiaries

Factors that May Lead to Work-life Conflict
In recent years, employees were faced with more challenges between work and family, due to a series
of changes of demographic characteristics and workforce construction (Beauregard Henry, 2009;
Martins, Eddleston, Veiga, 2002; Premeaux, Adkins, Mossholder, 2007). For example, Australia has
around 21,507,717 population, 90% are employed (either full time or part time), and about 45% of
people work more than 40 hours a week (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2011). Additionally, nearly
half of the families are a couple with children, and around 70% of the parent(s) are working
(Australian Bureau of Statistics 2011). Therefore, this essay will focus on managing the work life
conflict, since it has negative effects on job satisfaction and performances. There are two forms of
work life conflict, work to family conflict (WFC) and family to work conflict (FWC). It is defined as
an interrole confliction, which is the participation of one role leading to difficulties of another role,
such as work and family role (Greenhaus Beutell, 1985 as cited by Premeaux et al., 2007). The
following essay will describe the problem in more detail and then propose two types of
recommendations (problem oriented and emotion oriented) to cope with the conflict between work
and family. Finally, the pros and cons of the solutions will be addressed. To begin with, it is important
that we need to understand the different factors may lead to work life conflict. Firstly, individual

Along The River During The Qingming Festival Analysis
When mentioning Along the River During the Qingming Festival, most people will immediately think
of the version by the Song dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan, which is undeniably the earliest and most
well known version. There are many copies and variations of this work, including a painting by the
Ming dynasty artist Qiu Ying, which is also called Along the River During the Qingming Festival.
Although the artist uses the same title, this painting has its own beauty and connotative meanings that
cannot be ignored and which people need to discover and appreciate. Zhang Zeduan s masterpiece
depicts the landscape of his hometown, Kaifeng and the life of its people during the Song dynasty.
Nearly 500 years later, Qiu Ying portrayed his hometown Suzhou in a similar way, but in his version,
the scenes are different to the original version. Compared to Zhang, Qiu Ying added more blue and
green landscape patterns, and the feeling of the artisan is not strong in this work. The most important
thing is that both artists show different visual perspectives of the culture and customs of the city.

an important page in Chinese history by combining the history and reality of a genre painting. So
many landmark buildings in Suzhou are clearly recognizable which show the developed economy and
traditions of the Ming dynasty and the artist s own style. Qiu Ying uses the traditional blue and green
style in this painting, leading to a beautiful picture which is filled with bright green mountains and

Analysis Of Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Is dystopian fiction, unremittingly bleak, leaving no room for hope, or is it a positive warning to
persuade us to speculate about the world that mankind has created.
On the surface, dystopian fiction is a bleak, depressing genre that offers a detailed and destructive
presentation of the very worst of social alternative , but in actuality it is a means of speculation that
reveals to the audience the real threats in society. It extrapolates contemporary socio political trends
taken into extremes , which compels its audience to re examine the values of their society, resulting in
an optimistic tale that gives the audience hope to escape their pessimistic future. Anthem by Ayn Rand
(1937) is a detailed portrait of a collectivist society overstated for the purpose of satire and
storytelling. As a politically conscious writer, Rand writes to communicate to her audience her
political perception into the destructive psychology of collectivism. This exposes the audience to the

Summary Of Reading Between The Lives Documentary
When I saw this video I found out that I have the same problems that they had when they went to the
college. It was difficult in the beginning, but I work out some of my problems like how they did it.
some of the words in this video I didn t understand it. Any how I like what they are seeing because it
sounds that they are toking to me. In the short film Reading Between the Lives shows the participation
in school or college students. The film may have been useful, but I simply felt depressed by the film.
Also Based on the film, Chabot College students are victims. Chabot teachers are unskilled. A
question they asked was why are your grades bad? , and the students reply was either they did not
understand the text or the teacher gave no structured form of the assignments given, so the students do
not understand how the teacher wants the work done. a long time ago I had a teacher who confused
me, for example she would give assignment and the next day she would have forgotten all about the
assignment, but she did not teach us about the material needed for the homework assignment. I agree
with Julian, Laricia, Shirley, Ivone, and Christian when they say that the textbook ... Show more

Just as students benefit when the instructor makes clear how the course material is relevant to their
lives. Also, the film provides problematic messages for community college students. The books are
expensive; other students are not reading. For the first time, it was really hard for me to do these
things in my first day of college, but slowly I started to understand about the writing assignment that
has been given. Learning a new knowledge from the book novel is kind of interesting and enjoy me
the most since this is new to me for the first semester and as a first college student. I am reading
materials that has been assigned to

Greyhound Research Paper
Woof, Woof, Woof! In the middle of a ideally hot afternoon people gather around for an incredible
race. These dogs on their way in the back of the truck to start the race are known as Italian
Greyhounds. Only the fastest will win as they cross the finish line barking at the raccoon hanging
from the tree. Italian Greyhounds are awesome animals due to their history, life cycle, housing,
nutrition, and the benefits of Greyhounds. Greyhounds have been migrated to America in the most
amazing ways. The Greyhound species first started about two thousand years ago in the
Mediterranean, Greece, and Turkey. Italian Greyhounds were bred for small games, hunting, and
companionship. As the years passed, miniature Greyhounds were all over Southeastern Europe. About
the 1600 Greyhounds appeared in England. Then by 1820 the Greyhounds only had two breeds named
in the dog book. During World War II, the popularity of Greyhounds decreased. As the number
decreased, the Greyhounds still had hope. In the nineteenth century high quality Greyhounds were
introduced to the United States. In interesting fact the Greyhounds were bred to restore Europe after
World War II. Greyhounds had travelled all over the world on their voyage to the United States. Italian

fed grapes, chocolate, walnuts, and etc. Greyhounds need to be fed two scoops of food in the morning

Personal Characteristics Of Personality
Personal Characteristics
Based on the stages of human development, I am currently in my early adulthood phase. I describe
myself as sincere, hardworking, and independent women. I also consider myself very brave and
rebellious because I moved to the United States by myself after high school. I chose to move out of
my family because I wanted to be a changemaker. In terms of my personal life, I am emotionally very
strong, and I bring a cheerleading vibe when I see people feeling very down or upset. On the other
hand, I am a very serious and focused person in my professional life. Furthermore, my friends
describe me as a reliable, friendly, strong, and matured person. While, in a work setting my colleagues
describe me as determined, ambitious, and wise.
For this assignment, I took the Myers Briggs test. I was very much satisfied with the results.
According to the assessment, I have a ENFJ type of personality. It is believed that around two to five
percent of all the population have this type of personality. Furthermore, this personality is considered
as warm, outgoing, loyal, and sensitive. The first letter E resembles the extraversion character. This
means that we have an outgoing personality and like to spend time with people. The next letter I is
about intuition, and this means that we like to think about future rather than present. The following
letter F is regarding feelings, and it means that we always think how a decision will impact others

In Colorado My Father Storacked Dishes Summary
In Colorado My Father Scoured and Stacked Dishes by Eduardo C. Corral is a poem about the speaker
s father who was smuggled into the State. Coming into the State the speaker s father faced many
hardship and struggles to make a living in the desert, the mountain, and Oregon. Corral the speaker
shows empathy toward his father because he see s all of the struggles that his father had faced and the
speaker couldn t do anything to help the father out. Corral used code switching, diction and
symbolism to show the hardships and struggles the speaker and his father faced as being Mexican
American due to their identity. The struggles to survive when they don t have money, family support,
and also trying to fit in even though he is being disrespected because of his cultural background. Due
to the circumstance that his father had faced which is why the father becomes who he is and the

A New, Improved Way to Package Goods for Transport with...
1. Introduction
Liner Shipping developed new ways of packaging goods for transport; their growth has influenced the
global trade. Even during economic crisis there has been tendency to move more and more goods
through this means. Their growth influenced the efficiency of the whole supply chain. The progress of
this trade has been faster than other sectors (Brooks 2000). Global environment of trading is
constantly changing and Geographic concentrations of interlinked business and factories called
clusters are making the trade pattern more difficult to predict. Like all other businesses the Liner
shipping companies are thriving for competitive advantage over their rivals. And this has led to low

2013). Therefore, liner shipping companies must be extremely careful with ship investment decisions.
Insufficient investment can reduction in market share and may lead to losing market position, while
huge investment may affect the financial stability of the company. (Fan Luo 2013).
These decisions also affect the economy as they affect the global logistics network, especially when
the economy is recovering from the recent financial crisis. Huge investments in the liner shipping
have led to bigger ships and over supply of cargo spaces, which in turn affected the demand supply
equilibrium leading to low freight rate under usage of cargo spaces (Clarkson PLC 2014).
Global container trade(1963 2013) (UNCTAD, 2013, p.23) Liner shipping companies are still
struggling hard with capacity management due to deliveries of ships accounting for 1.3 million TEU.
Most of the companies are reducing their services which enabled them to push through rate increases
temporarily, But the profit margin is still limited (Clarkson PLC 2014). To cope with the market
environment focusing on intense pricing pressure, shipping companies have started to cooperate in
many forms, ranging from slot chartering, vessel sharing, cargo sharing, strategic alliances, mergers
and acquisitions etc. The main reason for alliances is due to the need of cargo volumes in the scale of
operation and to spread the risk associated with investment in the huge vessels.

The Issue Of Plastic Surgery
The subject of plastic surgery in America is still a taboo since it attributes to the idea of being
unnatural and a plastic monster . Most popular surgeries in the country include eye lifts, liposuction,
and breast enlargements. Those who have gotten these procedures are likely to keep what they have
had done in order to not be shamed by others who may not support artificially changing one s
appearance. Many people may know that South Korea is known as the plastic surgery capital of the
world. Plastic surgery was once a major taboo in Korea, where those who have gotten it done would
be looked down upon on by family and friends and be ostracized by society, but now the pursuit of
perfection has made cosmetic surgery much more popular and open to the public. About one in five
women in Korea would have some kind of plastic surgery done, and many neighborhoods and subway
stations are lined with advertisements and billboards to promote clinics by showing before and after
photos (Graham, Popular Surgery Shrouded in Shame ). In my experience of living in South Korea for
a few months, I did notice that there were many cosmetic surgery advertisements in certain districts of
Seoul. In those areas, I would typically see women s faces all bandaged up from those procedures that
got done and they wouldn t care if people judged.
The history of plastic surgery in Korea goes back to when an American plastic surgeon named Dr
Ralph Millard, who arrived in Korea in 1954 and performed

Bedouin Society
Introduction
The Bedouins, a nomadic people of the Middle East, are an indigenous people just as any other
indigenous people around the world, striving for economical, political, and cultural autonomy. Even
living in the harsh environment that the Middle East is, with the political and religious clashes
between countries and even the deadly environment, which the Middle East is known for, the Bedouin
people still continue to live with so much diversity surrounding them. Unfortunately since the 1970 s,
the Bedouin people are in a clash with the Israeli government concerning land rights and the
assimilation of the Bedouin people into the Israeli society. Nonetheless, the Bedouin people still strive
for the self sufficiency and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the idea of using produce as a form of payment, many farmers/households use their
harvest to pay ‘protectors . These protectors are big factors in the Middle East region, especially with
the Bedouin people, as they protect the lands and more importantly the crops of the Bedouin people
from raids of other tribes. This tribute/raid relationship was a simple business proposition whereby the
pastoralist received a needed product (grain) and the farmer acquired a scarce commodity (security)
(Galy 44). As with most pastoral societies, such as the Bedouin peoples, the type of animals
determines the division of labor of which they are herding (for example, camels). However, in order
for the Bedouin people to herd their own animals, they must have claims to land, which is a strong
debatable issue concerning the Bedouin people around Israel. Each Bedouin group seeks to control a
land area that contains sufficient resources to sustain communal life (Galy 45). Each Bedouin group
has their own distinct tract of land in a definite zone (Galy 45). This zone is well known to the
surrounding Bedouin groups, as they are not to interfere with the land. However, in cases of an
emergency, pastoral units are allowed to other surrounding tracts of land, even if any Bedouin group
does not own them. Furthermore, since the Bedouin people migrate close to countries (such as

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Appeal By Stephan H. Browne
The rhetorical analysis of the Appeal by Stephan H. Browne gives further insight about perfectibilism
in the document. In the third chapter of Rhetoric Public Affairs: Angelina Grimke: Rhetoric, Identity,
and the Radical Imagination, Browne contends that Angelina Grimke employed a rhetorical strategy
for the reimagining of community and reconceiving of past, to encourage acceptance for her
abolitionist vision of the future. In the Appeal, Angelina focused toward her audience of southern
Christian women and seeks to use that understanding to connect with them and contend that the
abolitionist cause cares for them. She also uses her analysis of biblical matters to reinterpret the
meaning of the bible and its significance to these women and their time. The bible is thus contended to
be a basis for condemning and opposing slavery, and that by their status, of them as Christian women
in the context of Southern plantation society, they should work to oppose it. This is followed by a
prescription of action tailored to both the audience s religious tendencies, and to the possible actions
they may take in the context of their social status.
This portrayal of the Appeal s rhetoric suggests a form of perfectibilism in the interpretation of the
past and community basis. Rather than merely calling out problems in the past about how American
and particularly southern society has engaged in slavery, it works to change the basis of historical
community for her audience. The bible is

Analysis Of The Song My Beloved Is Mine
In Canticle I, composed by Benjamin Britten, the song has been praised for its beautiful composition
to its seventeenth century poem by Francis Quarles, entitled My beloved is mine . Britten has written
this song for a high voice , with no specific type of a voice. Thus, this song could be sung by a tenor
or a mezzo, although often times by a tenor. The poem, derived from the Song of Solomon, has seven
stanzas in all. However, Britten has omitted the fourth stanza and combined the first and the second,
and the last two stanzas to make a four movement song of this poem. This poem is unique in a sense
that at the end of each stanza (with the exception of one), this poem concludes with So I my best
beloved s am; so he is mine. Although the poem is said to be adapted from the Song of Solomon and
thus the bible, Britten chose this specific poem to represent his personal relationship with the pianist
who accompanied this very song, Peter Pears. In this paper, I will be looking at each movement
carefully and how the text relates to the music Britten has composed. This song is clearly divided into
four movements, along with the poem. The first movement is entitled Andante alla barcarola, and by
definition, is a folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers. This movement contains the first two stanzas of
the poem, and right away, we see the symbolism within the music by Britten. This first stanza
specifically discusses of the metaphor of two streams (people) coming together to be one.

How Does Dave Eggers Create A Dystopian Society
Utopias tend to capture an idealistic view of a society. Complete perfection is impossible; it creates a
system that is inherently imperfect causing utopias to turn into dystopias. The advancement of
technology has created a dystopian ideal of society in which the agency of privacy is challenged. Dave
Eggers novel The Circle depicts a society where individuals have capitalized on the idea of a
technologically controlled world. Mae, the protagonist in the novel slowly becomes an icon of the
digital age. Eggers asserts of the dangers of living in a technological utopian society through the use
of character development. In The Circle, Dave Eggers uses Mae s gradual conversion in order to
describe her as the paragon of a transparent society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mae s eventual desire to make everything transparent is one of Eggers underlying messages. After her
Kayaking trip, Mae engages in a conversation with Bailey who asks her if she wants to share with the
public what she was doing earlier. She replies by saying, You give them anything you can. If you care
about their plight, their suffering, their curiosity, their right to learn and know anything the world
contains, you share with them. You share what you have and what you see and what you know. To me,
the logic there is undeniable. Egger uses Mae s drastic change into a less private person as the central
point in his assertion. Mae s character development explains the changes in a society that is becoming
transparent. She was more vigilant with what she made public. Soon, she begins to feed off the Circle
s ideas of transparency eventually joining SeeChange. Seechange is a form of program that utilizes
small cameras that are worn mostly by politicians and ultimately by Mae. The camera s purpose is to
go transparent; to show the public everything. Society will eventually become like Mae. Society will
be so consumed with the digital age to the point of forgetting common human

Impact On The Cuban Embargo
The Cuban Embargo Every world power has at least one means of communication with each other and
that is made through trade. Furthermore, trade is an essential part of a thriving economy and is
pertinent for a country to grow and prosper. It would even be argued that the concept of trade is
established at a young age, and is exhibited in the school yard through many medias. One of the most
common forms that trade takes place is through baseball cards. Moreover, each individual experiences
trade during their lifetime, and it is vital for a growing country to participate in trade. Whilst trade can
be an incredible assets towards a nation, it can also be one of the strongest foes. The nation of Cuba
can speak very clearly on this argument, specifically in regards to the Cuban Embargo issued by the
United States of America. The concept of trade and its effect on an economy can be examined through
the Cuban Embargo due to the United States history with Cuba, the effect on Cuba, and the effect on
the United States of America if it were to be ended. Almost all enemies and foes, at one time, would
have considered themselves to be good friends, this situation exemplifies the relationship between the
United States and Cuba. For instance, in January of 1959 Fidel Castro overtook the Cuban government
and President General Fulgencio Batista (U.S. Cuba Reltions, Suddath). Furthermore, Castro was able
to do this with the help of the United States imposing a 1958 embargo on

The Civil Rights Movement In Pan-Africanism And Black Power
Black power is the result of provoking a century s worth of submission, struggle and suffering. For
many, America was considered divided between the whites and blacks, which caused protest from the
African Americans due to the racial inequality. For the past century, blacks have led passive protest
with little or no change to their well being. Black power aims to change that, one of their core
ideology is that Blacks must unite without the help of whites to face racism while not standing idle
and using any means necessary. Black power stems from the influences of Pan Africanism and Black
empowerment while also going against the core ideas present in Civil Rights Movement like the
nonviolence movement. The Black power protesters wanted separation from the whites which is
similar to the Pan Africanism movement proposed by Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey is an advocate
for black nationalism and was a leader in the Pan Africanism movement. Marcus supported the idea of
going Back to Africa which was what the Pan Africanism movement was all about. Garvey even
founded a steamship company called Black Star Line with black officers and crew. Comparatively,
Black Power also has a strong stance on the Back to Africa as Bayard Rustin says in Black Power and
Coalition Politics, ...Negroes are once again turning to nationalistic slogans, with black power
affording the same emotional release as Back to Africa ... did in earlier periods of frustration and
hopelessness . This shows

Because the Aztecs feared that the world was ending, they held rituals and sacrifices to try to prevent
it from happening. According to the article, the Calendar stone suggests a relationship to midnight, the
earth, death, and the center of the world. The center of the Calendar stone was not easily identifiable
as it resembles many other deities like Tonatiuh, Piltzintecuchtli, Xochipilli, Coatlicue, and others.
These other deities had similar characteristics in the way that they looked but the context behind them
did not match the context of the Calendar stone. At first, it was believed that Tonatiuh was the face at
the center but he was a day sky god not a night sky god. There were also similarities among the face at
the center of the Calendar stone and with the god Xochipilli Pilzintecuhtli. Xochipilli Pilzintecuhtli
had similar face painting, arms, and carried a human heart. Although other deities like Tonatiuh were
thought to be the face at the center of the Calendar stone, it was shown that the face is the deity
Yohualtecuhtli who was a god of the earth, dark ness, death, and the south and center of the

European Exploration Dbq
Effects of European Exploration European exploration had both positive and negative effects. The Old
World and the New World both obtained new resources from each other like domestic animals and
crops. Negatively, Native Americans became enslaved and disease killed most of them. The Old World
and the New World were both greatly affected by this in positive and negative ways. The positive
effect of European exploration was that each world got new resources, but the negative effect was that
Native Americans became enslaved and most died from diseases. The positive effect of European
exploration was the trade of resources. The Colombian exchange was the transfer of animals, plants,
and ideas between the New World and the Old World in the 15th and 16th century. The Columbia
exchange brought domestic animals to the New World like horses and cows, while the Old World got
animals such as turkeys and llamas (Document F). Crops were also transferred between the two ...

The Colombian exchange did not transfer only good things. Many diseases such as small pox,
measles, mumps, and malaria were brought over to the New World from the Old World, and killed

1500s where he found large, thriving cities connected by networks of trade. When Rene Robert de La
Salle followed de Soto s path in the 1680s, those cities had vanished because of disease (Document
C). Not only was disease a negatve effect of European exploration but the natives became enslaved
and were treated very poorly. Spaniards cut off the hands of Native Americans for not collecting
enough gold for them that day, proving Spaniards were very harsh towards the natives (Document A).

  • 4. Corporate Tax Rate In America 1. One of the major issues we are facing in the US economy is how much we should charge in regards to the corporate tax rate. Corporate tax rate is imposed by the government and determines how much a corporate business will pay in taxes at the end of the year. Trump plans on decreasing the corporate tax rate from 35% to 15%. Out of the 34 countries in the OECD, America ranks first with a 39.1 percent corporate tax rate, compared to an OECD average of 24.1 percent. Along with trump, I think that we should reconsider the corporate tax rate. If we were to lower the rate than companies would have more money to spend and put back into our economy. Although I agree with Trump, there are several factors that affect this decision and there are many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fiscal policy that I suggest we use to address the problem is graduated corporate income. We should not determine the corporate tax rate as one concrete number. We should decide the rate based on how big the company is. The policy will state that the first $50,000 of a corporation s profit is taxed at a 15% and will cap out at 35% for companies that make more than $335,000. Using this policy will make it so more small businesses will grow because they will not be taxed as much as a large company that can actually afford it. 5. The monetary policy I suggest we use is to increase the money supply and lower the cost of borrowing. I believe that this will affect how we calculate the corporate tax rate because if a company has an easier time getting a loan, and if they have access to more money, we can make the tax rate higher because they will have more money. The money that we get from taxing these corporations should be put back into the economy by the government. If we were to keep the tax rates higher we can use the extra money and put it into things such as; the building of roads, education, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Communication And Diversity Training Essay Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science or the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (Dunstone Williamson, 2012). Sheppard and Bonneau (2002) summarized the impact on physical working capacity of commonly encountered gender differences in size, body composition, haemoglobin levels, and muscular strength. According to the authors, the potential training response of female applicants is likely at least to match that of their male peers, and the needs of female police recruits are thus best accommodated by providing every opportunity to augment fitness to the required minimum level. The main weakness of any current requirement is that most police forces do not yet apply an equivalent criterion to older incumbent officers, where similar issues may arise. 2.3 ... By recognizing and valuing women and men s differences (such as age, religion, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, disability, sexual orientation, etc.) and considering their needs in shaping training and development opportunities, the business stands to benefit from the diversity of their contributions. Communication and diversity training regarding gender identity in the workplace should be comparable to other policy announcements and training initiatives (Boyle, 2005). For instance, if an employer provides online harassment training that incorporates race and sex, it should also incorporate gender identity. Supervisory employees should receive diversity training that includes clear examples of discrimination based on gender identity shortly after starting employment and on a regular basis thereafter. • 11. Religion By John Steinbeck s East Of Eden Religion is a central theme in John Steinbeck s East of Eden. Religion constantly appears through the similarities between the Cain and Abel story, the Hebrew word timshel, and the presence of God and Fate in the novel. Throughout the book, the characters struggle with the ideas of good and evil, and choice and freewill. As the story unfolds and progresses, we see the characters deal with these things with religion being the base and the root that the book lays upon. The biblical story of Cain and Abel plays a central role in the novel East of Eden. In Genesis , Adam and Eve s sons, Cain and Abel, offered sacrifices to God. The shepherd Abel sacrifices his best lamb, while the farmer Cain offers grain. Because God prefers Abel s gift over Cain s, Cain becomes infuriated and kills his brother in a jealous rage. Adam asked, Do you know where your brother is? No, I don t, said Cal. . . . He hasn t been home for two nights. Where is he? How do I know? said Cal. Am I supposed to look after him? (410) This exchange between Adam and Cal is a direct parallel with the exchange between God and Cain that appears in the book of Genesis in the Bible. After Cain murders Abel, God realizes that Abel is missing and asks Cain where Abel is. Cain retorts, I know not; am I my brother s keeper? Adam and Cal s reenactment of this conversation links them explicitly to the biblical story and cements Cal and Aron, respectively, as surrogates for Cain and Abel. The characters of ... Admiral De Ruyter was in direct command of seventy five men of war making teamwork a huge aspect of how he went about leading those warships into battle. As well as teamwork, communication was important to Admiral De Ruyter; it shows with his innovation pertaining to how communication and coordination amongst his fleet was accomplished by the use of flags. This may seem like a simple idea currently, but back in the seventeenth century, it was a revolutionary tactic in maintaining coordination amongst a massive size fleet of seventy five men of war. Nyborg was heavily fortified making the first landing attempt a failure which forced Admiral De Ruyter to reconsider his tactics (Liefde 180) . As night time approached, Admiral De Ruyter ordered a few of his men to go out in a couple landing boats in order to cause confusion by firing their guns making as much noise as they could (Liefde 180) . These men were also appointed the task of rowing to a certain location on the shore line with their lights on to stir more confusion amongst their Swedish enemy (Liefde 180). This trick worked in making the Swedish Army think that an invasion was occurring at that spot causing them to congregate and centralize their army (Liefde 180). Early the next morning, Admiral De Ruyter made the smartest leadership decision of this war by quickly sailing north to the city of Kerteminde and landing his men there (Liefde 180). Admiral De Ruyter was a very good planner and a decision maker when it came to war tactics to overcome his adversaries. For example, Australia has around 21,507,717 population, 90% are employed (either full time or part time), and about 45% of people work more than 40 hours a week (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2011). Additionally, nearly half of the families are a couple with children, and around 70% of the parent(s) are working (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2011). Therefore, this essay will focus on managing the work life conflict, since it has negative effects on job satisfaction and performances. There are two forms of work life conflict, work to family conflict (WFC) and family to work conflict (FWC). It is defined as an interrole confliction, which is the participation of one role leading to difficulties of another role, such as work and family role (Greenhaus Beutell, 1985 as cited by Premeaux et al., 2007). The following essay will describe the problem in more detail and then propose two types of recommendations (problem oriented and emotion oriented) to cope with the conflict between work and family. Finally, the pros and cons of the solutions will be addressed. To begin with, it is important that we need to understand the different factors may lead to work life conflict. Firstly, individual differences need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along The River During The Qingming Festival Analysis When mentioning Along the River During the Qingming Festival, most people will immediately think of the version by the Song dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan, which is undeniably the earliest and most well known version. Zhang Zeduan s masterpiece depicts the landscape of his hometown, Kaifeng and the life of its people during the Song dynasty. Nearly 500 years later, Qiu Ying portrayed his hometown Suzhou in a similar way, but in his version, the scenes are different to the original version. • 20. Analysis Of Anthem, By Ayn Rand Is dystopian fiction, unremittingly bleak, leaving no room for hope, or is it a positive warning to persuade us to speculate about the world that mankind has created. On the surface, dystopian fiction is a bleak, depressing genre that offers a detailed and destructive presentation of the very worst of social alternative , but in actuality it is a means of speculation that reveals to the audience the real threats in society. It extrapolates contemporary socio political trends taken into extremes , which compels its audience to re examine the values of their society, resulting in an optimistic tale that gives the audience hope to escape their pessimistic future. Anthem by Ayn Rand (1937) is a detailed portrait of a collectivist society overstated for the purpose of satire and storytelling. As a politically conscious writer, Rand writes to communicate to her audience her political perception into the destructive psychology of collectivism. This exposes the audience to the risks of conformity, along with providing means to avoid this dystopian imagination crystallising into reality. Dystopias are a hyperbolic view of a familiar society s values, and assert that total control is harmful to the individual. Anthem is a grim future Rand envisioned after experiencing first hand the impacts of a brutal Stalinist rule . It was influenced by general socio political trend of increasing signs of collectivism and oligarchy developing into more recent politics during the early 20th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Insufficient investment can reduction in market share and may lead to losing market position, while huge investment may affect the financial stability of the company. (Fan Luo 2013). These decisions also affect the economy as they affect the global logistics network, especially when the economy is recovering from the recent financial crisis. Huge investments in the liner shipping have led to bigger ships and over supply of cargo spaces, which in turn affected the demand supply equilibrium leading to low freight rate under usage of cargo spaces (Clarkson PLC 2014). Most popular surgeries in the country include eye lifts, liposuction, and breast enlargements. Those who have gotten these procedures are likely to keep what they have had done in order to not be shamed by others who may not support artificially changing one s appearance. Many people may know that South Korea is known as the plastic surgery capital of the world. Plastic surgery was once a major taboo in Korea, where those who have gotten it done would be looked down upon on by family and friends and be ostracized by society, but now the pursuit of perfection has made cosmetic surgery much more popular and open to the public. About one in five women in Korea would have some kind of plastic surgery done, and many neighborhoods and subway stations are lined with advertisements and billboards to promote clinics by showing before and after photos (Graham, Popular Surgery Shrouded in Shame ). In my experience of living in South Korea for a few months, I did notice that there were many cosmetic surgery advertisements in certain districts of Seoul. In those areas, I would typically see women s faces all bandaged up from those procedures that got done and they wouldn t care if people judged. In addition to the idea of using produce as a form of payment, many farmers/households use their harvest to pay ‘protectors . These protectors are big factors in the Middle East region, especially with the Bedouin people, as they protect the lands and more importantly the crops of the Bedouin people from raids of other tribes. This tribute/raid relationship was a simple business proposition whereby the pastoralist received a needed product (grain) and the farmer acquired a scarce commodity (security) (Galy 44). As with most pastoral societies, such as the Bedouin peoples, the type of animals determines the division of labor of which they are herding (for example, camels). However, in order for the Bedouin people to herd their own animals, they must have claims to land, which is a strong debatable issue concerning the Bedouin people around Israel. Each Bedouin group seeks to control a land area that contains sufficient resources to sustain communal life (Galy 45). Each Bedouin group has their own distinct tract of land in a definite zone (Galy 45). This zone is well known to the surrounding Bedouin groups, as they are not to interfere with the land. However, in cases of an emergency, pastoral units are allowed to other surrounding tracts of land, even if any Bedouin group does not own them. • 28. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Appeal By Stephan H. Browne The rhetorical analysis of the Appeal by Stephan H. Browne gives further insight about perfectibilism in the document. In the third chapter of Rhetoric Public Affairs: Angelina Grimke: Rhetoric, Identity, and the Radical Imagination, Browne contends that Angelina Grimke employed a rhetorical strategy for the reimagining of community and reconceiving of past, to encourage acceptance for her abolitionist vision of the future. In the Appeal, Angelina focused toward her audience of southern Christian women and seeks to use that understanding to connect with them and contend that the abolitionist cause cares for them. She also uses her analysis of biblical matters to reinterpret the meaning of the bible and its significance to these women and their time. The bible is thus contended to be a basis for condemning and opposing slavery, and that by their status, of them as Christian women in the context of Southern plantation society, they should work to oppose it. This is followed by a prescription of action tailored to both the audience s religious tendencies, and to the possible actions they may take in the context of their social status. This portrayal of the Appeal s rhetoric suggests a form of perfectibilism in the interpretation of the past and community basis. Rather than merely calling out problems in the past about how American and particularly southern society has engaged in slavery, it works to change the basis of historical community for her audience. • 29. Analysis Of The Song My Beloved Is Mine In Canticle I, composed by Benjamin Britten, the song has been praised for its beautiful composition to its seventeenth century poem by Francis Quarles, entitled My beloved is mine . Britten has written this song for a high voice , with no specific type of a voice. Thus, this song could be sung by a tenor or a mezzo, although often times by a tenor. The poem, derived from the Song of Solomon, has seven stanzas in all. However, Britten has omitted the fourth stanza and combined the first and the second, and the last two stanzas to make a four movement song of this poem. This poem is unique in a sense that at the end of each stanza (with the exception of one), this poem concludes with So I my best beloved s am; so he is mine. Although the poem is said to be adapted from the Song of Solomon and thus the bible, Britten chose this specific poem to represent his personal relationship with the pianist who accompanied this very song, Peter Pears. In this paper, I will be looking at each movement carefully and how the text relates to the music Britten has composed. This song is clearly divided into four movements, along with the poem. The first movement is entitled Andante alla barcarola, and by definition, is a folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers. This movement contains the first two stanzas of the poem, and right away, we see the symbolism within the music by Britten. This first stanza specifically discusses of the metaphor of two streams (people) coming together to be one. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, trade is an essential part of a thriving economy and is pertinent for a country to grow and prosper. It would even be argued that the concept of trade is established at a young age, and is exhibited in the school yard through many medias. One of the most common forms that trade takes place is through baseball cards. Moreover, each individual experiences trade during their lifetime, and it is vital for a growing country to participate in trade. Whilst trade can be an incredible assets towards a nation, it can also be one of the strongest foes. The nation of Cuba can speak very clearly on this argument, specifically in regards to the Cuban Embargo issued by the United States of America. For many, America was considered divided between the whites and blacks, which caused protest from the African Americans due to the racial inequality. For the past century, blacks have led passive protest with little or no change to their well being. Black power aims to change that, one of their core ideology is that Blacks must unite without the help of whites to face racism while not standing idle and using any means necessary. The Black power protesters wanted separation from the whites which is similar to the Pan Africanism movement proposed by Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey is an advocate for black nationalism and was a leader in the Pan Africanism movement.
