The Intellect Organism Of The Ecosystem Essay
Something that many people might not know is that we humans, are made up of organisms and we
also are the intellect organism of the ecosystem. Since we are the intellect organism, this makes us
responsible for the survival of nature and ecosystem. A lot of this generation has forgotten about our
ancestors who once lived like all other animals in ecosystem. These ancestors would hunt for food and
rely on the land for water, shelter and other basic needs. Nevertheless, with time men have evolved
and slowly distance themselves from nature. We seem to now think we no longer need nature or
ecosystem for survival. On the contrary, we only exist because of nature and ecosystem. Society needs
to acknowledge this and start working towards ways to incorporate ecosystem in our daily lives as an
essential; one way we can start is by conserving one of earth s most valuable natural resource, water.
What is the one thing humans, plants, and animals all have in common? We all need water in order to
survive. Water is essential for the growth of greenery and it keeps all mammals bodies working
properly. Mammals bodies cannot survive without water for more than ten days. Water is, in the blood,
which carries oxygen to all the tiny cells in the body, without these cells the body will shut down.
Water also helps with the digestive system to digest the food we eat and the removal of waste through
urine and bowel movements. More than one billion people on Earth already lack access to

The Evolution And Importance Of Sound
The Evolution and Importance of Sound in Media Sound has accompanied performances and visual
entertainment all throughout history, and more recently, with interactive media in video games. Sound
is an integral part of the user experience and helps solidify immersion and realism. With the rapid
increase of visual fidelity in film/television, and the rapid growth of graphical power in video games
and animation, sound plays a more important role than ever. In these visual and interactive medias, the
image you see is considered the most important factor. However, both factors of audio and image must
form a seamless bond to provide a well synced, uninterrupted experience. Sound quality is often
overlooked in both production and reception and should be held in the same regard as
cinematography, interactive gameplay, and other creative content. Music has always been, until now,
experienced live. (Katz 11) The time before recorded sound is almost impossible to imagine. The
world is at a time in which imagined and virtual worlds are part of everyone s daily lives. Over the last
century, and beyond, there has been an exponential rise in technological advances that are causing an
increased simplicity of creating and distributing creative and technical multimedia works. To get to
this point, basic technologies and inventions from the world s greatest and creative minds had to
evolve and adapt to meet the needs of consumers and entertainment seekers. One of the first of

Community Volunteering
I have made a difference in my community by volunteering for many organizations. To start, I have
participated in the Lisbon Community Band and provided musical entertainment for the community to
enjoy free of charge. Each year, my town band has a winter and summer concert. These concerts
include a new set of songs for the community to hear. Music relaxes the mind and is believed to have
certain healing properties. I have been in my town s community band for eight years now and I plan to
be a member for as long as I can. The community band is a valuable and necessary aspect of my
community. I also have participated in my town s Boy Scout Troop in the past, helping out individuals

These were beneficial to not just the community, but to anyone who was set to receive blood
transfusions for medical reasons. As a Boy Scout, we also aided other organizations, such as the
Lisbon Historical Society. Furthermore, my troop assisted in running events, such as my town s fall
festival. My community extends to other parts of the state, as I have volunteered for organizations in
nearby towns. One such organization that I volunteer at is the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in
New London. I volunteer in the summers in the Lawrence and Memorial Lobby shop gift shop. I feel I
am able to make a difference in the life of those who come into the gift shop. Specifically, I attempt to
bring smiles to the faces of the customers and make their experience in the gift shop enjoyable.
Another organization I volunteer for is the Slater Library in Jewett City. One summer I developed a
reading and science experiment program that lasted for many weeks and motivated children to read, as
well as become interested in the sciences. Through the creation of this program, I have observed
children having a great time performing these science experiments while being motivated to read
challenging books. Overall, I believe I have made a significant impact on my community and I will

Adult Basic Education Programs For Adult Education
Adult Basic Education programs exist in the United States to provide second chance educational
services to adults 18 and older who test below a twelve grade level in reading, language, or math. This
is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was signed
into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce
Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Title II of the WIA established the current
accountability standards for adult education programs in the United States that include state level
development of student outcome based performance standards to determine program effectiveness.
Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and
language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable; an
increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high school equivalency diplomas.
These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to improve English
literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of high school, and to
place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli, Castillo, Seburn,
Deveaux, 2002). WIOA expands and encourages better coordination between the primary federal
programs that support workforce development, employment services, adult education, and vocational
rehabilitation services, and establishes

Divorce Cases In The 1600 s
As long as there has been marriage, there has been divorce. Divorce cases have dated as far back as
the 1600 s. Originally, they were simple matters. Men, generally, received custody of the estate, assets,
and children. Women would receive nothing. However, divorce reform came around in the 1970 s to
fix this inequality. They introduced alimony payments and custody favoring women. With the changes
to divorce law, came more complexity in deciding cases. Cases, such as Dan v. Karen, have to take
into consideration lost opportunities, appropriate payment, and any future issues that might arise. In
Dan v Karen, Karen gave up her job to take care of their children, moved away from her family so
Dan could get a job, and provided for Dan when he did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They require a lot of consideration from the court and many factors, from the treatment of spouses to
the potential future one could have had outside of the marriage, affect the outcome. As such, there are
many change laws and views on policies. In modern divorce cases, a big issue is spousal support.
Spousal support was original thought of as compensation to a dependent wife for her divorcing
husband s breach of marital vows and responsibilities (244). However, modern divorce cases have
caused for a rethink of this aged idea. No fault divorces and changes in typical gender roles caused a
shift in typical spousal support. To correct this, spousal support was proposed to be seen as a
compensation for the dependent spouse s noneconomic support. Basically, the dependent spouse has
provided just as much for the family as the primary care taker. If the court see that the dependent
spouse s contributions have helped the non dependent spouse s ability to advance in their career, then
they should be compensated for this effort. The dependent spouses are no longer entirely dependent on
the primary caretaker. If a couple divorces, one spouse is not significantly disadvantaged for
sacrificing their career to help the family. In the case of Dan v. Karen, Karen is not harmed for her
efforts. It possible that Dan would never have obtained his road worker job, and thus be as financially
well off as he is if Karen did not quit her job and raise the kids.

Hart on the World of Anxiety
Hart (2001) starts his theory of connecting to the world of anxiety in the field of counseling by stating
that anxiety is the number one emotional problem of our day that anxiety should always be considered
and its role and significance on the body (p. v). He postulated this back in 1999 and now fifteen years
later this is truer today than back then. Our society is faster paced and demanding than in years past
too. Hart (2001) reminds us that researchers have discovered that stress is the major cause to anxiety
as it wreaks havoc with our brain s biochemistry; his main premise is that although anxiety medication
may help, they will not cure anxiety in fact anxiety can be biologically based and the anxiety
discussed in scripture is more akin to worry, which is a learned behavior (p. vi). Hart reminds us that
humans were designed for camel travel, but most people are now acting like supersonic jets; in a
nutshell, most of us are living at too fast a pace (Hart, 2001, p. vi). Hart (2001) gives us a formula for
understanding his theory as high anxiety is caused by the depletion of our brains natural tranquilizers
as overextension and stress flood the body with high adrenaline.
Life changes are what Hart (2001) tells us will cure anxiety. Hart gives the reader a process to
understand what anxiety is and how it is produced in the body. He mentions two factors that are
paramount to the understanding of stress related anxiety: the first GABA (Gamma Amino butyric acid)

The Importance Of The Self And Society
Contrary to popular belief, the self and society are not separate entities, they are dialectic and
influence the development of each other. This relationship can be examined through behavior and
interaction of an individual s self with social reality. The self relates to society through a variety of
different sociological theories including Dramaturgy, Symbolic interactionism, the looking glass self,
phenomenology, and ethnomethodology. All the above argue that society and the self are shaped
through experiences within our everyday lives, and that communication with other selves is necessary
to make up the larger societal structure. Without the self, society would cease to exist. Socialization is
the process through which the self emerges through social interaction (Gorea, 2017). The self is not an
organic thing that has a specific location whose fundamental fate is to be born, to mature, and to die,
nonetheless, is a dramatic effect arising from a scene that is presented (Goffman, 1959:252) In other
words, the way we are socialized into society leaves an impression on ourselves, as well as our
impression leaves a lasting effect on society. Through this process of socialization, we learn to adopt
the perspective of others, and act in a manner molded to represent the expectations of society. As
humans, we actively influence our own social development through our sense of self. We learn about
ourselves through socialization by copying the actions of others, or through

Theories on Motivation Essay
Introduction:
Motivation can be defined as the inner power or drive that pushes one towards taking a particular
course of action. It is much related to desire and ambition and they all work in tandem (Sasson, 2001).
Motivation is influenced or caused by factors known as motivators. According to Sigmund Freud, we
are compelled to act by unconscious forces within us, which he called our id (Hofstede, 1980).
Motivators are either intrinsic (from within) or extrinsic (from without). Intrinsic motivational factors
refer to motivators that come from within an individual. They are not influenced by external factors.
This kind of motivation comes about as a result of self actualisation or fulfilling one s personal goals.

Maslow categorises human needs into five main areas shaped in a pyramid form, which are attained in
a hierarchical manner. According to Maslow (1943), lower needs take precedence and must be
fulfilled before higher level needs are activated. Thus, individuals progress from the bottom of the
pyramid of needs to the top.
Maslow s work has been markedly criticised for its failure to take into account individual differences
and cultures. Wahba and Bridgewell (1976) find very little evidence of the ranking of human needs as
described by Maslow or even the existence of a definite hierarchy of needs at all. On another front,
Hofstede (1984) criticises Maslow s work for being ethnocentric as it is based on an experiment on a
limited sample population in the U.S.A and cannot be extrapolated to describe a universal situation.
Alderfer s Existence, Relatedness and Growth Theory:
Alderfer (1969) distinguishes three categories of human needs that influence individual behaviours,
which are Existence needs, Relatedness needs and Growth needs. His work can be seen as a more
compact form of Maslow s Hierarchy of needs. However, he contrasts with Maslow s theory in that
the human needs he identified are not in anyway attained hierarchically nor do all individuals have to
go through the same process to attain their needs. Furthermore, Alderfer proposes the frustration

Innovation And Management Of Technological Development Essay
Proposal to Include Innovation and Management of Technological Development in the New Zealand
Technology Curriculum
Barbara Clarke
TEMS340 16A
Our current New Zealand Technology learning area aims to develop in students a broad technological
literacy that will equip them to participate in society as informed citizens and give them access to
technology related careers (Ministry of Education, 2007, p. 32). Through the learning opportunities in
each of three distinct strands: Technological Practice, Technological Knowledge and the Nature of
Technology, students are provided with opportunities to be creative, innovative and to develop
technological skill through practical activity. It does not however currently address the specific
development of Innovation and the Management of Technological Practice in its curriculum strands
and component descriptors.
With the Technological Practice strand focusing on planning for practice, brief development, outcome
development and evaluation and the Technological Knowledge strand focused on technological
modelling, products and systems, the curriculum has the make and do aspects of technology generally
well covered. However it is the third strand, being The Nature of technology which studies the
characteristics of technology and those of technological outcomes that must be further developed with
the addition of Technological Innovation and the Management of Technological practice as additional
objectives.

The New Year Essay
The New Year is upon us once again, ready or not. This holiday seems to me the one that provokes the
most thought and reflection, which is a good thing really. We all need to assess where we are in our
journey of life and make adjustments. For the Christian, this is especially important. Ephesians 5:1 2
reminds us to Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as
Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. The past year
has been a great learning year for me in the area of relationships. I ve learned a lot about myself,
others, and especially about how much God loves ME! Some of what I learned was very disappointing
as I saw so much selfishness in relationships. I know that I am guilty of it too sometimes, but I just
recognized it more, and saw the repercussions many times. Those consequences are painful and the
effects are trickle down. It has made me really think about Love a lot more and how Love as God
intended it to be should be evident in our lives ALWAYS, and not just when it s convenient for us.
God spoke to me about His Love through my dog, Tracker. Yep, this is the Tracker story that I ve been
meaning to put out there. This isn t exactly how I thought I d convey it to everyone but as time has
passed and I think about it even more, I know without a doubt that the truth that God impressed upon
me that night is what is most important about the story. Tracker is an

The Dream Act
The Public Policy of Illegal Immigration?
Introduction
Is higher education an entitlement? As a daughter of immigrants, this question can not be answered by
a simple yes or no. Every area of policy is multifaceted. Every idea about policy draws certain
boundaries in the realm of politics and in the debate of social and economic legislation. Ideas tell what
or who is included or excluded in a category. (Stone). The rationale of public policy is taking a
complex agenda, situation or idea and attempting to scale it back into main points, arguments and
agendas. Furthermore, an issue is placed on the agenda, and a problem gets defined...alternative
solutions are proposed, analyzed, legitimized, selected and refined. A solution is implemented... (Stone
10 11). In this instance, reducing any answer to a simple yes or no response fails to capture different
points of views and different ideas and the diverse amount of forces at play. Matters of community,
loyalty and public interest almost always ignore the school of rationale thought. For this purpose,
using the very ambiguous label of Americans , we all must reconcile our social perceptions of what
was believed to be our American heritage for what it visibly is. In June 2012, just months before his
reelection bid, President Barack Obama announced a major policy shift to slow the deportation of
young, undocumented workers in favor of granting them permanent stay in the United States. Obama
stated that his policy swing was

Chapman s article explains the truth behind coerced false confessions, which involves suspects
admitting to a crime they did not commit. With true examples and specific explanations and
descriptions, Chapman shows just how suspects feel their only option is a fabricated confession.
Through interrogations, police can involve threats, manipulation, persuasion, and several other
methods to make a person confess. Factors such as stress and fear can also cause suspects to confess.
In some cases, innocent suspects even come to believe they are guilty due to incorrect interrogation
methods. This article is not all about police forcing people to confess though, it also explains how
police are put under a tremendous amount of pressure to get a confession out of someone, any person
who will confess. Therefore, they do anything they can to get the confession they so ... Show more

How Social Media Has Changed Our Culture
Social media has changed our culture in ways many, in years past, would have thought to be
impossible. With the advent of social media, people are connected around the world. Using the
internet we can have face to face conversations, write letters , play games, and much more with others
instantly without the need of being in the same room as them. Even though we are all constantly
connected, some feel our technological innovations are causing us to become lonelier. Many feel
physical interactions are key to creating emotional bonds. Some even feel left out because they are not
technologically incline. Those who believe technology is making us lonelier often note how some
people say they have friends that they have never met in real life, or cite shows like Catfish where
people fall in love with others over the internet, but the person they thought they were talking to is not
actually who they were talking to. Though some may think technology is making us lonelier, in
actuality it bring us closer together. The internet is amazing. It connects people all around the world. A
few summers ago I went to camp in New Hampshire and met people from around the country and
around the world. At camp I became friends with a guy named Vicente. Vincente lives in Spain. We
became close friends at camp. When camp was over we were not disappointed because when we made
it back home we connected via Facebook. From there we exchanged Gamertags and where playing

Similarities Between Hyeonseo Lee And Total Control In...
Beliefs can come from what people are taught, their location, and the people they look up to whether
that is their family or their leaders. An author by the name of Aldous Huxley who wrote the book
Brave New World. A quote from this book is, One believes things because one has been conditioned to
believe them. This book is based on a dystopian society that takes place in the future where human life
is totally industrialized. Humans are being created to society s strict caste system, the book has a
theme of a dehumanized life. The two texts I have chosen to discuss are The Girl With Seven Names
by Hyeonseo Lee and Total Control in North Korea by Jessica McBirney. These two texts have
evidence that North Korea has a lot of control over daily life and the beliefs of its citizens, and that the
country has illicit and cruel punishments for those who break the law. North Korea has a very severe
and commanding government. The government controls every single aspect of the private and public
lives of its people and the punishments for not following their strict rules are savage and barbaric.
North Korea has a complete and total control of the citizens day to day life. The people of North
Korea base their daily life off of being loyal to and worshiping their countries and leaders. They do
this by doing daily rituals to their glorified leaders. North Korea has Mass Games which according to
Kim Jong il were essential because they subdued individual thought and expression. In

Technology In Ww2
Technology has made a huge difference in the world since history, and it has been a reason why
people are more social. In the old times since the 1960 s to the 1980 s many people didn t knew where
many things came from or they didn t knew how it was made or know anything about technology.
Until, in the year 1440 printing press came as a form of technology to people that allowed them to
write news on newspapers and inform the people many things about what was going on in the world
and how many things were created. Whenever WW2 came that was when technology started to
develop more and it helped many soldiers create bombs and destroy houses and become more
powerful. In advantage it didn t helped them enough to win the war which is a good thing. One of the
most useful transportations that was used in WW2 was the railway also known as a train that was
created in 1804. It helped transport many jews to the concentration camps whenever WW2 started. ...

The Furry Newcomer Essays
It was a warm March afternoon. I lay curled up on the couch completely engrossed in the works of
Oscar Wilde. Suddenly a red rubber ball landed on my lap. I looked up to see the nine year old
mischief maker grinning at me. The sun rays played on his dark haired body. The streaks of yellow
seemed as though someone had sprinkled gold all over him. He wetted his nose and stared at me
intensely. His piercing dark coffee colored eyes could make anyone feel uncomfortable. Marshal, the
brilliant German Shepherd was trying to hypnotize me.
Marshal came in to our family when he was a mere two month old puppy. Since then, he has been my

It did not take me long to coax he, though she only agreed to have a look at the puppies. In my heart I
knew that half the battle was won! That same evening we headed to the pet store. It was lined with
countless aquariums housing a variety of fish. My eyes searched for the dogs but I could see none.
The store manager informed us that they kept them in the other room. They had only one Labrador
puppy available then. I waited patiently while they fetched the puppy. However, my patience soon ran
out and I started wandering around the store. The fish seem to follow my every move; it was as if they
could sense my eagerness.
In a few minutes a man emerged from the other room with the most adorable little wonder of nature
nestled in his hands. The little guy shook his cream colored body and looked up at us with his bead

man set him down, the puppy ran towards us stumbling on the sleek floor. He started jumping around
with joy while I patted him. The way he bounced around made him seem more like a little bunny than
a puppy. The little pup had succeeded in winning over mom s heart. I was jumping with joy when I
heard her discussing the paperwork with the manager.

Film Analysis Of Sunset Boulevard
Sunset Boulevard, directed by Billy Wilder features some very legendary and prominent actors as well
as directors which helps make this film and instant classic. What makes this movie so unique is that
there are both actors and directors in the movie who play themselves. The film stars notable actors and
actresses such as Gloria Swanson, William Holden, Buster Keaton, Hedda Hopper, and Anna Q.
Nilsson. It also features two very prominent directors, Erich von Stroheim and the infamous Cecil B.
DeMille. The actors and actresses seemed to be made for these roles and help turn this movie into a
classic. The over the top acting done by Gloria Swanson, the overly, flamboyant setting, and the
musical score by Franz Waxman all help contribute to make this film a classic.
Sunset Boulevard stars Gloria Swanson who plays a washed up silent movie star (Norma Desmond)
which was not too much of a far stretch for her since she had in fact been a silent movie star back in
her heyday. It also stars William Holden who plays a has been writer down on his luck (Joe Gillis)

Natural resources have been an essential part of Canada s growing economy for decades. In Canada,
there are various and reliable sources of energy such as oil, hydroelectricity, natural gas, uranium,
coal, solar, wind, tidal and biomass. Canada is proven to be the fifth largest energy producer in the
world and the second largest in uranium. Canada has over 200 active mines turning out 60 or more
different metals and minerals, which includes having more potash than anyone else in the world. This
country is also in the top five in aluminum, diamond, cobalt and etc. The Canadian government has
capitalized on its natural resources and the wealth they generate and help give Canadians a quality of
life. Natural resources account for nearly up to 20 percent of Canada s gross domestic products and 50
percent of our exports. On top of that, the natural resource sector creates about 10 percent of all jobs in
Canada. All this energy consumption helps sustain our economy growth and our standards of living.

David Hume Morality
Hume on Morality and Reason In book three of A Treatise of Human Nature, David Hume writes
about the nature of morality and its connection to our faculty of reason. He argues that our moral
evaluation is not based solely in reason, though still influenced by the conclusions reason produces. In
this essay, I will explain Hume s argument against reason as the base of our moral evaluation, and the
assumptions on which it relies. This will be followed by explaining what, according to Hume, moral
evaluation is based on and how it resolves the difficulties that a reason based moral system would
raise. Finally, I will explain why Hume s moral requirements have some issues, particularly with

should be. Sympathizing with just ones immediate family, friend group, or clique could fracture
society into moral factions. Nearby societal groups may hold similar moral traits as virtuous; however,
enough distance may result in incredible variance that would cause society to be difficult to govern at
a large scale. This situation does not reduce moral relativism, but simply shifts it to a larger scale,
resulting in morals relative to small groups. Rather than solving the problem of relativism, it
eliminates any moral objectivity at all, since each group would decide on moral traits that work best as
subjective to that group. In the opposite case, one may sympathize so generally that alternative views
may be suppressed so as to avoid being insensitive to others. Such a scenario could result in an
extensive hive mind in which nonconformists are viewed as unsympathetic or immoral, rather than
merely being in a natural state of justified disagreement. This situation appears to be easily
exploitable, since it promotes groupthink by means of a near universal objective morality. In both
cases, the plausibility of the system is likely tarnished. If the narrow circle is too narrow, it will likely
result in small scale collectives with almost no moral objectivity, but if the narrow circle is too large,
then the system appears to be oppressive and entirely objective. There is the possibility of a middle
ground for the size of the narrow circle, but finding and maintaining such a state seems entirely
impractical and still

Compared to external conflicts which happen more out loud or with other people, internal conflicts are
kept more towards one person s inner self. In The Lottery, there also also internal conflicts that can be
found throughout it even though some people might not be able to notice it. An internal conflict can be
important to see throughout stories because they can show you the feelings of that character. It may
turn out that maybe the a certain character may be scared while another one is having second thoughts
about something. This can be crucial when reading stories and even watching movie because they may
give you ideas about what may occur in the near future. It is what makes stories more interesting and
make you want to keep on reading because you want have the curiosity of what is going to happen
next in the story.
Some internal conflicts found in The Lottery include when Tessie came in the village square running
late. She was worried when she arrived to the square late. It does not tell you why she may have been
worried, but maybe it was because she was worried about getting chosen and getting killed. It may
have also been because there was a chance that one of her family members could get chosen too. In

Sermon On The Mount Chapter 1 Summary
The book of Matthew, The Sermon on the Mount is one account of what Jesus taught during his walk
on earth. Many people of that time witnessed the sermon and were amazed and astonished, not from
what was said, but how it was said. The multitudes of people felted as if Jesus was truly the authority
of God. The purpose of this essay is to offer a critical review of the writing that was presented in class.

honey.
The story beings from the book of Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7. Chapter 5 starts with Jesus teaching

The Mafia Phenomenon in Italy
When non Italian citizens think about Mafia they picture huge villas in which bosses spend their entire
time surrounded by bodyguards, beautiful women, and a lot of drug. Despite this scenario could
resemble a perfect Hollywood movie, the Italian Mafia is all but showing one s power and wealth.
One of the most powerful but at the same time more hidden Mafias, is the Ndrangheta, the Calabrian
one. To reflect briefly on the etymology of the word Ndrangheta is not merely an academic exercise,
but could instead give us important cues on its historical analysis. The most convincing etymological
hypothesis is that the word Ndrangheta derives form the ancient Greek term ἀνδραγαθία, or

We can make a distinction between the Minor and the Major Society. The Picciotto is the first step of
the Ndrangheta s career in the Minor Society: he is merely an executor of orders, forced to obey the
high levels of the ndrina with the only hope of gaining immediate benefits. The Camorrista is an
affiliate that deserves a certain importance because he reached this position after a period of training.
He can complete missions that the Picciotto cannot afford. The Sgarrista is the last step of the Minor
society, and has the highest relevance. Within the major society we have a huge variety of roles,
among which we can mention the Vangelo (gospel), that is a person who has sworn with his hand on
the gospel. It is interesting to notice that all the people that don t belong to the Ndrangheta are called
the Contrasts, while those who are not members but sympathize with it are called Honored Contrasts.(
Roberto Saviano La Ndrangheta al Nord ) Another feature that differences Ndrangheta from the other
Italian Mafias is the role of females as members. Women had an important role in this organization,
not only because their marriages could strengthen the ndrine, but also because they were admitted to
the organization and could have climbed the structure to the highest female role, the Sisters of
Humility. This position requires to take care of the

The Egyptians were more about wealth and being on top to be closer to Gods, while the Hebrews

Historical Context and Performance Reflection of Ocean Alley
Ocean Alley is an ensemble consisting of 6 musicians (guitarist/vocalist, lead guitarist, rhythm
guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and drummer), which was established in 2010 on the Northern Beaches,
Sydney. Ocean Alley is currently touring various local pubs around Sydney and is also going to begin
recording its next EP as of next month. The band encompasses elements of natural, beat driven reggae
as well as various components of psychedelic rock through a large number of inspirations(Alley). This
has given the band a highly diverse, unique sound of psychedelic rock/reggae fusion(Alley). This
review will examine the historical context in which this band has grown from as well as the textural
and structural characteristics in its live performance, as well as in comparison to its studio recordings.
It will focus on the compositions of Yellow Mellow and Freedom Lover to highlight how the use of
texture, density and the fusion of two genres can create a highly distinctive sound that sets them apart
from other ensembles.
One of the main genres that Ocean Alley has embraced is reggae. Reggae is a specific genre created in
Jamaica, formed through heavy rhythmical elements where the rhythm guitar can almost be seen as a
percussion instrument on its own through the use of the expressive technique known as staccato. This,
in combination with distinctive drum and bass rhythmic structures, as well as a particular chord
structure has created a genre that has combined elements of funk,

Colin s Foreclosure Case
Next, Colin serves as an example of identity foreclosure and the impact early maturation can have on
individuals. According to Marcia s theory of development, identity foreclosure occurs when an
individual lives a life that was chosen for them, specifically by a parent or guardian, instead of making
their own decisions. In Colin s case, this can be seen by the fact that his father forced him to start
playing basketball because he himself played basketball when he was younger. Instead of going
against his father s wishes, Colin simply accepted the fate that was laid out for him, never giving any
consideration to other possibilities for his life. Additionally, Colin also the impact early maturation can

The IMposter Syndrome
In Chapter 7, Pinker says that women tend to think they are imposters at all achievement levels
whereas men tend to bluff. She provides examples of many women who have high achievements and
occupations that still feel like it is all due to luck rather than their hard work and talent. The belief that
their successes are due to external factors such as good luck and that their failures are due to internal
factors such as personal flaws is what Pinker defines as the imposter syndrome. Imposters tend to
ignore all of the positive events and achievements that occur this shows that no amount of success will
ever show them that they are worthy. Research showed that women have a tendency to need to know
that they are 100% correct before they answer a question whereas men tend to only need to be about
50% sure and will bluff the rest. Women tend to fear criticism and will respond as if they are sad and
ashamed. Men tend to take criticism through anger and usually externalize negative events. Pinker
gives the example of a male and female who take a test and do not do well, the male will blame it on
external factors like the test being hard while the female will blame it on internal factors like they did
not study correctly. Women who have a doubt about a cognitive test and perform bad will back out of
a race in the future and may not apply for a job due to self doubt. Self doubt tends to have some
positive effects in which cause imposters to form strategies to over prepare and perform

  • 2. The Intellect Organism Of The Ecosystem Essay Something that many people might not know is that we humans, are made up of organisms and we also are the intellect organism of the ecosystem. Since we are the intellect organism, this makes us responsible for the survival of nature and ecosystem. A lot of this generation has forgotten about our ancestors who once lived like all other animals in ecosystem. These ancestors would hunt for food and rely on the land for water, shelter and other basic needs. Nevertheless, with time men have evolved and slowly distance themselves from nature. We seem to now think we no longer need nature or ecosystem for survival. On the contrary, we only exist because of nature and ecosystem. Society needs to acknowledge this and start working towards ways to incorporate ecosystem in our daily lives as an essential; one way we can start is by conserving one of earth s most valuable natural resource, water. What is the one thing humans, plants, and animals all have in common? We all need water in order to survive. Water is essential for the growth of greenery and it keeps all mammals bodies working properly. Mammals bodies cannot survive without water for more than ten days. Water is, in the blood, which carries oxygen to all the tiny cells in the body, without these cells the body will shut down. Water also helps with the digestive system to digest the food we eat and the removal of waste through urine and bowel movements. More than one billion people on Earth already lack access to ... • 4. The Evolution And Importance Of Sound The Evolution and Importance of Sound in Media Sound has accompanied performances and visual entertainment all throughout history, and more recently, with interactive media in video games. Sound is an integral part of the user experience and helps solidify immersion and realism. With the rapid increase of visual fidelity in film/television, and the rapid growth of graphical power in video games and animation, sound plays a more important role than ever. In these visual and interactive medias, the image you see is considered the most important factor. However, both factors of audio and image must form a seamless bond to provide a well synced, uninterrupted experience. Sound quality is often overlooked in both production and reception and should be held in the same regard as cinematography, interactive gameplay, and other creative content. Music has always been, until now, experienced live. (Katz 11) The time before recorded sound is almost impossible to imagine. The world is at a time in which imagined and virtual worlds are part of everyone s daily lives. Over the last century, and beyond, there has been an exponential rise in technological advances that are causing an increased simplicity of creating and distributing creative and technical multimedia works. To get to this point, basic technologies and inventions from the world s greatest and creative minds had to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of consumers and entertainment seekers. • 5. Community Volunteering I have made a difference in my community by volunteering for many organizations. To start, I have participated in the Lisbon Community Band and provided musical entertainment for the community to enjoy free of charge. Each year, my town band has a winter and summer concert. These concerts include a new set of songs for the community to hear. Music relaxes the mind and is believed to have certain healing properties. I have been in my town s community band for eight years now and I plan to be a member for as long as I can. The community band is a valuable and necessary aspect of my community. I also have participated in my town s Boy Scout Troop in the past, helping out individuals in the community, raking leaves in their yards, and performing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These were beneficial to not just the community, but to anyone who was set to receive blood transfusions for medical reasons. As a Boy Scout, we also aided other organizations, such as the Lisbon Historical Society. Furthermore, my troop assisted in running events, such as my town s fall festival. My community extends to other parts of the state, as I have volunteered for organizations in nearby towns. One such organization that I volunteer at is the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. I volunteer in the summers in the Lawrence and Memorial Lobby shop gift shop. I feel I am able to make a difference in the life of those who come into the gift shop. Specifically, I attempt to bring smiles to the faces of the customers and make their experience in the gift shop enjoyable. Another organization I volunteer for is the Slater Library in Jewett City. One summer I developed a reading and science experiment program that lasted for many weeks and motivated children to read, as well as become interested in the sciences. Through the creation of this program, I have observed children having a great time performing these science experiments while being motivated to read challenging books. Overall, I believe I have made a significant impact on my community and I will continue to contribute my town in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Adult Basic Education Programs For Adult Education Adult Basic Education programs exist in the United States to provide second chance educational services to adults 18 and older who test below a twelve grade level in reading, language, or math. This is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was signed into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Title II of the WIA established the current accountability standards for adult education programs in the United States that include state level development of student outcome based performance standards to determine program effectiveness. Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable; an increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high school equivalency diplomas. These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to improve English literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of high school, and to place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli, Castillo, Seburn, Deveaux, 2002). WIOA expands and encourages better coordination between the primary federal programs that support workforce development, employment services, adult education, and vocational rehabilitation services, and establishes ... • 7. Divorce Cases In The 1600 s As long as there has been marriage, there has been divorce. Divorce cases have dated as far back as the 1600 s. Originally, they were simple matters. Men, generally, received custody of the estate, assets, and children. Women would receive nothing. However, divorce reform came around in the 1970 s to fix this inequality. They introduced alimony payments and custody favoring women. With the changes to divorce law, came more complexity in deciding cases. Cases, such as Dan v. Karen, have to take into consideration lost opportunities, appropriate payment, and any future issues that might arise. In Dan v Karen, Karen gave up her job to take care of their children, moved away from her family so Dan could get a job, and provided for Dan when he did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They require a lot of consideration from the court and many factors, from the treatment of spouses to the potential future one could have had outside of the marriage, affect the outcome. As such, there are many change laws and views on policies. In modern divorce cases, a big issue is spousal support. Spousal support was original thought of as compensation to a dependent wife for her divorcing husband s breach of marital vows and responsibilities (244). However, modern divorce cases have caused for a rethink of this aged idea. No fault divorces and changes in typical gender roles caused a shift in typical spousal support. To correct this, spousal support was proposed to be seen as a compensation for the dependent spouse s noneconomic support. Basically, the dependent spouse has provided just as much for the family as the primary care taker. If the court see that the dependent spouse s contributions have helped the non dependent spouse s ability to advance in their career, then they should be compensated for this effort. The dependent spouses are no longer entirely dependent on the primary caretaker. If a couple divorces, one spouse is not significantly disadvantaged for sacrificing their career to help the family. In the case of Dan v. Karen, Karen is not harmed for her efforts. It possible that Dan would never have obtained his road worker job, and thus be as financially well off as he is if Karen did not quit her job and raise the kids. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Hart on the World of Anxiety Hart (2001) starts his theory of connecting to the world of anxiety in the field of counseling by stating that anxiety is the number one emotional problem of our day that anxiety should always be considered and its role and significance on the body (p. v). He postulated this back in 1999 and now fifteen years later this is truer today than back then. Our society is faster paced and demanding than in years past too. Hart (2001) reminds us that researchers have discovered that stress is the major cause to anxiety as it wreaks havoc with our brain s biochemistry; his main premise is that although anxiety medication may help, they will not cure anxiety in fact anxiety can be biologically based and the anxiety discussed in scripture is more akin to worry, which is a learned behavior (p. vi). Hart reminds us that humans were designed for camel travel, but most people are now acting like supersonic jets; in a nutshell, most of us are living at too fast a pace (Hart, 2001, p. vi). Hart (2001) gives us a formula for understanding his theory as high anxiety is caused by the depletion of our brains natural tranquilizers as overextension and stress flood the body with high adrenaline. Life changes are what Hart (2001) tells us will cure anxiety. Hart gives the reader a process to understand what anxiety is and how it is produced in the body. He mentions two factors that are paramount to the understanding of stress related anxiety: the first GABA (Gamma Amino butyric acid) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of The Self And Society Contrary to popular belief, the self and society are not separate entities, they are dialectic and influence the development of each other. This relationship can be examined through behavior and interaction of an individual s self with social reality. The self relates to society through a variety of different sociological theories including Dramaturgy, Symbolic interactionism, the looking glass self, phenomenology, and ethnomethodology. All the above argue that society and the self are shaped through experiences within our everyday lives, and that communication with other selves is necessary to make up the larger societal structure. Without the self, society would cease to exist. Socialization is the process through which the self emerges through social interaction (Gorea, 2017). The self is not an organic thing that has a specific location whose fundamental fate is to be born, to mature, and to die, nonetheless, is a dramatic effect arising from a scene that is presented (Goffman, 1959:252) In other words, the way we are socialized into society leaves an impression on ourselves, as well as our impression leaves a lasting effect on society. Through this process of socialization, we learn to adopt the perspective of others, and act in a manner molded to represent the expectations of society. As humans, we actively influence our own social development through our sense of self. We learn about ourselves through socialization by copying the actions of others, or through ... • 10. Theories on Motivation Essay Introduction: Motivation can be defined as the inner power or drive that pushes one towards taking a particular course of action. It is much related to desire and ambition and they all work in tandem (Sasson, 2001). Motivation is influenced or caused by factors known as motivators. According to Sigmund Freud, we are compelled to act by unconscious forces within us, which he called our id (Hofstede, 1980). Motivators are either intrinsic (from within) or extrinsic (from without). Intrinsic motivational factors refer to motivators that come from within an individual. They are not influenced by external factors. This kind of motivation comes about as a result of self actualisation or fulfilling one s personal goals. Malone and Lepper ... According to Maslow (1943), lower needs take precedence and must be fulfilled before higher level needs are activated. Thus, individuals progress from the bottom of the pyramid of needs to the top. Maslow s work has been markedly criticised for its failure to take into account individual differences and cultures. Wahba and Bridgewell (1976) find very little evidence of the ranking of human needs as described by Maslow or even the existence of a definite hierarchy of needs at all. On another front, Hofstede (1984) criticises Maslow s work for being ethnocentric as it is based on an experiment on a limited sample population in the U.S.A and cannot be extrapolated to describe a universal situation. Alderfer s Existence, Relatedness and Growth Theory: Alderfer (1969) distinguishes three categories of human needs that influence individual behaviours, which are Existence needs, Relatedness needs and Growth needs. His work can be seen as a more compact form of Maslow s Hierarchy of needs. However, he contrasts with Maslow s theory in that the human needs he identified are not in anyway attained hierarchically nor do all individuals have to go through the same process to attain their needs. Furthermore, Alderfer proposes the frustration regression ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Innovation And Management Of Technological Development Essay Proposal to Include Innovation and Management of Technological Development in the New Zealand Technology Curriculum Barbara Clarke TEMS340 16A Our current New Zealand Technology learning area aims to develop in students a broad technological literacy that will equip them to participate in society as informed citizens and give them access to technology related careers (Ministry of Education, 2007, p. 32). Through the learning opportunities in each of three distinct strands: Technological Practice, Technological Knowledge and the Nature of Technology, students are provided with opportunities to be creative, innovative and to develop technological skill through practical activity. It does not however currently address the specific development of Innovation and the Management of Technological Practice in its curriculum strands and component descriptors. With the Technological Practice strand focusing on planning for practice, brief development, outcome development and evaluation and the Technological Knowledge strand focused on technological modelling, products and systems, the curriculum has the make and do aspects of technology generally well covered. • 12. The New Year Essay The New Year is upon us once again, ready or not. This holiday seems to me the one that provokes the most thought and reflection, which is a good thing really. We all need to assess where we are in our journey of life and make adjustments. For the Christian, this is especially important. Ephesians 5:1 2 reminds us to Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. The past year has been a great learning year for me in the area of relationships. I ve learned a lot about myself, others, and especially about how much God loves ME! Some of what I learned was very disappointing as I saw so much selfishness in relationships. I know that I am guilty of it too sometimes, but I just recognized it more, and saw the repercussions many times. Those consequences are painful and the effects are trickle down. It has made me really think about Love a lot more and how Love as God intended it to be should be evident in our lives ALWAYS, and not just when it s convenient for us. God spoke to me about His Love through my dog, Tracker. Yep, this is the Tracker story that I ve been meaning to put out there. This isn t exactly how I thought I d convey it to everyone but as time has passed and I think about it even more, I know without a doubt that the truth that God impressed upon me that night is what is most important about the story. • 13. The Dream Act The Public Policy of Illegal Immigration? Introduction Is higher education an entitlement? As a daughter of immigrants, this question can not be answered by a simple yes or no. Every area of policy is multifaceted. Every idea about policy draws certain boundaries in the realm of politics and in the debate of social and economic legislation. Ideas tell what or who is included or excluded in a category. (Stone). The rationale of public policy is taking a complex agenda, situation or idea and attempting to scale it back into main points, arguments and agendas. Furthermore, an issue is placed on the agenda, and a problem gets defined...alternative solutions are proposed, analyzed, legitimized, selected and refined. A solution is implemented... (Stone 10 11). In this instance, reducing any answer to a simple yes or no response fails to capture different points of views and different ideas and the diverse amount of forces at play. Matters of community, loyalty and public interest almost always ignore the school of rationale thought. For this purpose, using the very ambiguous label of Americans , we all must reconcile our social perceptions of what was believed to be our American heritage for what it visibly is. With the advent of social media, people are connected around the world. Using the internet we can have face to face conversations, write letters , play games, and much more with others instantly without the need of being in the same room as them. Even though we are all constantly connected, some feel our technological innovations are causing us to become lonelier. Many feel physical interactions are key to creating emotional bonds. Some even feel left out because they are not technologically incline. Those who believe technology is making us lonelier often note how some people say they have friends that they have never met in real life, or cite shows like Catfish where people fall in love with others over the internet, but the person they thought they were talking to is not actually who they were talking to. Though some may think technology is making us lonelier, in actuality it bring us closer together. The internet is amazing. It connects people all around the world. A few summers ago I went to camp in New Hampshire and met people from around the country and around the world. At camp I became friends with a guy named Vicente. Vincente lives in Spain. This book is based on a dystopian society that takes place in the future where human life is totally industrialized. Humans are being created to society s strict caste system, the book has a theme of a dehumanized life. The two texts I have chosen to discuss are The Girl With Seven Names by Hyeonseo Lee and Total Control in North Korea by Jessica McBirney. These two texts have evidence that North Korea has a lot of control over daily life and the beliefs of its citizens, and that the country has illicit and cruel punishments for those who break the law. North Korea has a very severe and commanding government. The government controls every single aspect of the private and public lives of its people and the punishments for not following their strict rules are savage and barbaric. North Korea has a complete and total control of the citizens day to day life. The people of North Korea base their daily life off of being loyal to and worshiping their countries and leaders. They do this by doing daily rituals to their glorified leaders. North Korea has Mass Games which according to Kim Jong il were essential because they subdued individual thought and expression. In ... He argues that our moral evaluation is not based solely in reason, though still influenced by the conclusions reason produces. In this essay, I will explain Hume s argument against reason as the base of our moral evaluation, and the assumptions on which it relies. In sufficiently large groups, there is enough diversity that it is nearly impossible to sympathize with the ideals and desires of everyone else. Of course, Hume says that one should sympathize with the general point of view , but, if that is the case, it needs to be determined how general this point of view should be. Sympathizing with just ones immediate family, friend group, or clique could fracture society into moral factions. Nearby societal groups may hold similar moral traits as virtuous; however, enough distance may result in incredible variance that would cause society to be difficult to govern at a large scale. This situation does not reduce moral relativism, but simply shifts it to a larger scale, resulting in morals relative to small groups. Rather than solving the problem of relativism, it eliminates any moral objectivity at all, since each group would decide on moral traits that work best as subjective to that group. In the opposite case, one may sympathize so generally that alternative views may be suppressed so as to avoid being insensitive to others. Such a scenario could result in an extensive hive mind in which nonconformists are viewed as unsympathetic or immoral, rather than merely being in a natural state of justified disagreement. This situation appears to be easily exploitable, since it promotes groupthink by means of a near universal objective morality. In both cases, the plausibility of the system is likely tarnished. If the narrow circle is too narrow, it will likely result in small scale collectives with almost no moral objectivity, but if the narrow circle is too large, then the system appears to be oppressive and entirely objective. There is the possibility of a middle ground for the size of the narrow circle, but finding and maintaining such a state seems entirely impractical and still ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead of going against his father s wishes, Colin simply accepted the fate that was laid out for him, never giving any consideration to other possibilities for his life. She provides examples of many women who have high achievements and occupations that still feel like it is all due to luck rather than their hard work and talent. The belief that their successes are due to external factors such as good luck and that their failures are due to internal factors such as personal flaws is what Pinker defines as the imposter syndrome. Imposters tend to ignore all of the positive events and achievements that occur this shows that no amount of success will ever show them that they are worthy. Research showed that women have a tendency to need to know that they are 100% correct before they answer a question whereas men tend to only need to be about 50% sure and will bluff the rest. Women tend to fear criticism and will respond as if they are sad and ashamed. Men tend to take criticism through anger and usually externalize negative events. Pinker gives the example of a male and female who take a test and do not do well, the male will blame it on external factors like the test being hard while the female will blame it on internal factors like they did not study correctly. Women who have a doubt about a cognitive test and perform bad will back out of a race in the future and may not apply for a job due to self doubt.
