One of the themes prominent in both works is: the tension between ideal and real. This theme is
found commonly throughout Hamlet and helps to add the the idea that Hamlet not actually
mad; but rather, the only one to see reality. Ideally to a normal eye it would be reasonable to

Another universal theme found in both works is: The clash between appearance and reality. There
are numerous examples of this theme found in Hamlet. One example would b, a conversation
between Horatio and Bernado. Shakespeare writes, (Bernado) How now, Horatio! You tremble and
look pale! Is not this something more than fantasy? What think you on t? (Horatio) Before my God,
I might not this believe without the sensible and true avouch of mine own eyes (I.ii.52 59). This

In Sister Carrie, Dreiser uses very detailed descriptions of characters and their appearance. These
are not empty descriptions, each description of the clothes is so convincing that it plays with the

enthusiastic and willing to tackle difficult conversations, the outcome can take us from an
ordinary wallflower to a dynamic contributor! Here are 5 good reasons why we all need to speak
up (even when we think we shouldn t) 1.Silence is deemed approval You might think that staying
silent keeps you from being involved in conflict but silence is as much an active form of
communication as talking. You might feel shy or that you are being judged or you might even feel
that other people are dominating the conversation but everyone here has a valuable contribution to
make. Your opinions and ideas do matter and we want to hear them. 2.Make the greater good the
priority By sharing information, offering opinions and suggestions, you may open up the lines of
communication between team members, making them aware of certain situations and perhaps even
help to resolve a problem. 3.Show that you are invested If someone invites you into a conversation,
show your commitment to the process and people involved by being active and vocal (using tact
and empathy of course). Speaking up is an important form of honesty which builds trust.

The Abortion Arguments of Cider House Rules
I am writing this essay on a Saturday evening, not with any real contemplation, or even planning. I
am writing this because I was just minutes ago watching the movie Cider House Rules. I won t go
into the plot of the movie, but, to explain my motivation for writing this, I will simply describe one
portion of the movie.
The scene at issue in my mind right now is one where a fourteen year old girl comes to the
orphanage which is the setting for part of the movie. This girl came to the orphanage because it
was known in the region as a place that performed abortions. She had had a crude abortion
performed in such a way that she had been severely injured (her uterus was punctured by a crochet
In the movie, Homer is an orphan, and this may provide an interesting perspective in regards to the
status of the fetus. As an unwanted child himself, he empathizes with the unborn children that he
refuses to destroy.
So far, all we have talked about really is the emotion of the question of abortion. The purpose of
this essay (which will not be very long), is to examine these lines of reasoning, and to come to
some conclusion about the differing philosophies of these two characters.
The doctor s argument is, as I mentioned, very much a utilitarian one, and as you know, this sort
of argument doesn t sit well with me (see my Truth essays). Regardless of my perspective,
though, the doctor s first argument is one which many people (including some that I greatly
respect) accept as a good reason for legalized abortion. The doctor is making the very simple
assessment that one death is preferable to two. If the mother dies along with the baby, this is a
waste and a shame, therefore he feels as though he is obligated to perform an abortion that will not
likely harm the young woman at issue. Homer, on the other hand, takes a deontological stance he
believes that his performing an abortion is wrong, and that is as far as his reasoning has to go.

competitive strength of the business. This paper includes comparing and contrasting two articles.

In the farming society of the early 1800 s, education was not possible for many children. Horace
Mann, a farm boy himself and an early advocate for educational reform, saw the deficiencies in the
educational system. He pushed for common schools that would retain local control, be co

In her personal history, she describes her life, and her childhood, which intertwines with her family
history. However, she not only talks about her histories, she talks about the histories of the other
characters in the essay to bring across the larger world history. One of the technique s that Griffin
uses to help the audience understand her concepts, is explaining two other story lines while
telling her main story. The first one is a description of a cell. Throughout the essay, italicized
sentences explaining the intricacies of a cell are placed seemingly randomly between passages.
The description begins with a nucleus, and as the story progresses, so does the nucleus. Griffin
tells what happens to the nucleus, and how the inner workings of the nucleus develops into a cell,
which gives rise to many cells, which will eventually become an embryo. He other story line, also
italicized sentences, goes through the making and beginning of missiles. Later in the essay, Griffin
explains how the one missile develops into a bigger and more effective missile.
These separate story lines are placed within the story to explain that everyone has a background,
and a past. The background and past are factors in developing the present and future; and certain
characters in the story had a tendency to try to forget their past, not realizing that there is no escape
