Coercive Act Dbq
The Coercive Acts, also known as the Intolerable Acts, were a series of British measures passed in
1774 designed to punish Massachusetts colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The Intolerable Acts
were the cause for the American War for Independence because the colonists felt they were being
controlled with the implement of vigorous policies in the American colonies. The Boston Port Act,
Massachusetts Government Act, the Act for the Impartial Administration of Justice, the Quebec
Act, and the Quartering Act were all passed as a retaliation to the Boston Tea Party and gave
colonists the right to react. The Boston Port Act angered the colonists the most, the Act closed the
Boston harbor to all shipping until the town had compensated the Dutch East India Company for
the destruction of its tea and assured the King of it s future loyalty. It prohibited ships from docking
in Boston, those ships caught docking were confiscated along with all cargo. The Boston Port Act
continued the movement of colonial unity in respect to their view of England, and colonial
unification. One of the immediate consequences of closing the port were the economic damages
placed on Massachusetts. The merchant class was affected by the elimination of any... Show more

This Act deprived Massachusetts of its own charter and right to choose their own magistrates,
providing for greater royal control. Prior to the Act, Massachusetts separated itself from the other
colonies in the fact they had the ability to elect members of its executive council. This Act took
that right away and alternatively gave the king the sole power to appoint officials. However, the
Patriot leaders forcefully opposed it and forbid operation. This act of defiance towards the royal
ruler was another step towards fighting the American War for Independence and breaking

Abolition Of The Death Penalty
Abolition of the Death Penalty
Capital Punishment, otherwise known as the death penalty, first dates back to the English Colonies
in the 1600s. The people of this time adopted this tradition to punish people who had committed
crimes of murder, treason, theft, robbery, rape, or other horrible offenses. In 1776, people already
began to see the inefficiency of the death penalty. Benjamin Rush, a physician and signer of the
Declaration of Independence, stated that the punishment of murder by death is contrary to reason
and to the order and happiness of society. Rush believed that the death penalty should only be a
product of England, and that America should not condone premeditated killing by the government,
but rather leave that practice in England.
In 1794, the state of Pennsylvania began to promote the idea of restricting capital punishment. Soon
after, other states followed Pennsylvania s lead and either reduced the number of capital crimes or
got rid of capital punishment all together. By 1846, the state of Michigan was the first state in the
United States to outlaw the death penalty. After Michigan s implementation of the new law, other
northern states, such as Rhode Island and Wisconsin, outlawed it as well. However, states in the
South kept the death Penalty for a variety of reasons. One of the most important reasons it was kept
in the South was because of the high crime rate and slavery. At times when states would get rid of
the death penalty, they would end up

Balancing Family Work Life
I. Introduction A. Thesis Statement Attending school as an adult, and maintaining a source of
employment can be a daunting task, as many adults who had to delay their college education
must know. One of the most challenging aspects of adult life consists of learning how to adjust
accordingly to the rigors of life at home as well as the workplace. Failure to do so can lead to a life
of complete disarray, stress, illness and exhaustion. II. Body Paragraph #1 Topic Sentence #1
Traditionally the typical age group for freshmen in college was between 18 to 19 years of age.
That reality has slowly changed as more young adults are finding their way back in the classroom,
while holding down a job. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We must look at the adverse effects that those long work hours have on the human body.
Overworked individuals can suffer from work related illnesses as a result of excessive stress.
Work related stress can result from extended hours due to mandatory overtime in some case. An
employer s rigid work hours which can prevent employees from tending to occasional issues at
home can also be blamed for stress on the job. Employees suffering the effects of stress in the
workplace tend to have bouts of absenteeism. A. Supporting evidence Absenteeism in the workplace
is a major issue, with tangible and intangible costs. Although the absentee loses wages in the
process, the major loss is at the expense of the employer. The ebrary book by Lynn Tylczak,
(Attacking absenteeism 1990), describes the intangible costs of absenteeism as follows: Absentee
costs are difficult to quantify. Experts estimate direct wage loses of more than $30 billion per year,
and that s just the beginning. Employers also need to consider the costs of supplementary or
replacement workers. These costs include: Regular wages, overtime wages, and company benefits
Supplementary benefits, such as Social Security, worker s compensation, and unemployment
compensation Administration of recruitment, selection orientation, and training Penalty costs
resulting from delays. The author (Lynn T. 1990) also gives the following explanation from the
tangible cost of absenteeism: It forces

Tv Show Sociology
In the recent years, media, especially news outlets had been accused of being severely
influenced by political party s establishments due to their content. For example, in the United
States, some had accused media companies of being biased towards a political party while they
clearly support the other. It is a fact that this accusation, no matter how ridiculous they may
sound, still holds some elements of truth in it. Since it is undeniable that the media industry is in
one way or another affected by external factors, this essay will discuss the various ways of how
movies and TV shows are affected by the political and economic factor. The essay focuses on
movies and TV shows because they generally capture a larger scale of audience, causing... Show

For example, in a Disney cartoon show, DuckTales which ran from 1987 to 1990, there are many
moments in which the creators try to portray that capitalism is a better way of life compared to
Socialism or Communism (Dofman and Mattelart, 1975). In the book, How to Read Donald
Duck (1975), it is argued that the Donald Duck character is an excessively materialistic character
which values money among other things (Dofman and Mattelart, 1975). The book also argues that
there are multiple moments in the cartoon shows which shows that the characters are only
successful in their career and ultimately their life after they are able to achieve great wealth while
the poor and working class are looked down upon. Since the show was released towards the end of
the Cold War, it could be said that the show was heavily influenced by the American economical
ideology which is consumerism due to the United States being in the Capitalist bloc. Apart from
the United States, the DuckTales show was also aired in other countries such as The United
Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia, it is clear that the show was made not only as a
propaganda medium to influence to American people but also people worldwide, especially
children into believing that Capitalism is the only way of life. Thus, it is only wise to theorise
that the show could be created as a part of the Cold War itself as it undermines the Communism
ideology that was practiced in Soviet Union during that time. In the book, How to read film (1977),
the writer suggested that the character Donald Duck would had been different if the United States
didn t adhere to the capitalist ideology (Monaco,

Self Sacrifice Quotes
Loyalty and devotion lead to bravery. Bravery leads to the spirit of self sacrifice. The spirit of self
sacrifice creates trust in the power of love, (Morihei Ueshiba). This quote goes to show the steps
in which it takes to qualify as a rightful hero. Therefore, a hero is someone who is self sacrificing
and courageousness, sets an example, and is never selfish or cowardly. A herois a personwho nobly
puts others before themselves. My parents are two people who exhibit their selflessness on a day
to day basis. For instance, my mom, a kindergarten teacher, who comes home everyday with a
smile on her face to put food on on our table, even if she had a long day and has ran out of
patience. Equally as important, my dad who recently has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Rosa Parks was ordered to move to the back of the bus to give up her seat to a white man,
she simply said, No sir... I m stayin right here, (SB 291). This evidence proves to show the
courageousness in her words, and how she was tired of black people always being treated
unfairly. She changed our history forever just by deciding to stand up and sacrifice herself for
the sake of millions of other people. Her resistance led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which
caused a uproar in the Civil Rights Movement, taking away segregation laws, and giving African
Americans equality. Rosa Parks small use of words impacted our Nation greatly. Not only was
Rosa Parks heroic, but Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president, was a hero as well. From his
funeral, the sermon that was spoken tried to make the best of the situation by saying, though our
beloved President is slain, our beloved country is saved, (SB 68). This quote shows how
Abraham Lincoln had many fearless acts of bravery in his presidency, proving his heroicness. He
abolished slavery for good, and although it ended up with him being assassinated, Lincoln knew
the risk he had to take, and he chose to sacrifice his life for the good of the people. These two
people had actions that were inimitable, in which they changed our history books to something so

The Role Of Animal Burial In Ancient Egypt
Man s Best Friends It s a Western idea that a dog is a man s best friend. Yet, when our canine
companions get sick, or hurt, or inevitably grow old and they die, what happens? If Spot was
lucky, he might get buried in the back yard inside an old shoebox or crate, wrapped in an old
towel or blanket, with some dirt thrown on him. Before long his shallow gravewill be overgrown by
grass and dandelions and prickles. All it will take is one quick swipe of a lawnmower and any trace
of your beloved pet will be gone forever. As much as we love our pets and rely on domesticated
animals for food and for other goods, they are essentially disposable. We are a society that flushes
our dead goldfish down the drain. Not so in Egypt.
While the ancient Egyptians exploited a variety of animals, the animal kingdom was closely
integrated into their culture, especially when it came to their funerary practices. There is evidence
of ritualized animal burial from Predynastic times onward. At the graveyard in Heliopolis dogs
and goats were buried in a nearly 1:4 ratio to human beings. Although in few numbers, evidence of
animal burial was also found in Maadi and Wadi Digla. In all three cases, ... Show more content on

The great Egyptian tombs were filled with all sorts of goods, everything an Egyptian pharaoh or
aristocrat could ever need in the afterlife: food, drink, clothing, tools. These sites also contained
tombs for their servants, so that they would continue to serve their master even in death.
Following this line of thought, it is plausible that the ancient Egyptian wanted to make sure they
had access to their animals in the afterlife. Cattle to plow fields and provide milk, oxen to pull
heavy loads such as the sarcophagus as well as fish and birds to hunt. As previously stated, many
of these animals were found with their own pottery and grave goods. Clearly the ancients wanted
their animals to be cared for in the

Male vs. Female Offenders
The prison world is predominately male dominated. As the years go by, female incarceration levels
have been rapidly increasing. The prisons in early days didn t have to worry about dealing with
two different types of inmates as there were not that many females incarcerated. While male and
female inmates do have some similarities, they also have some distinct differences. The way they
conduct themselves in prisonare different; as are they way they interact with other inmates. Males
typically are in prison for more violent crimes than women, making the maximum security prisons
mainly male. Throughout this paper, these differences and a few similarities are discussed.

290 291). As with males, many female offenders are abusers of alcohol and drugs and were under
the influence of either at the time of their offense. According to demographic data from 2002, more
than 46% of females were using drugs or alcohol at the time of their offense, and more than 55%
admitted to drinking regularly.
Many females in prisons find surrogate families while they are being incarcerated. It is a personality
trait of many females to band together with others to pull through a rough and emotional time, such
as being in prison. Female inmates tend to have problems that males don t that bond them together
stronger. One such bond is the inmates that are pregnant at the time of their incarceration.
Homosexuality is prevalent in female institutions, largely because a high percentage of women
have been abused and misused by men for most of their lives, and they already have turned to
other females for their emotional needs. 1 in 4 women in prison has been sexually assaulted, most
likely by male staff. Sexual Assault in a women s prison isn t primarily about dominance as it is in
a male prison.
MALE VS. FEMALE INMATES
While there are many similarities between male and female inmates, there are also many
differences. The American prisons have been predominately male and continue to do so.

The Perception Of The Human Sciences
Each of us are different in many ways and that fact cannot possible be disputed by anyone who
has any back ground in the human sciences, as it has been scientifically proven that we all have
unique finger prints, DNA, hair, looks, behavior and facial expressions and the combination of
these things make us unique personality types so to speak. We also function from two different
perspectives and we need to understand how each one of us functions. We each like to think that
we are special (which we are) and in that portrayal system, we mostly portray what we perceive
we want people to think about us. On the other side of the coin we have a reality in what we
truly believe about ourselves and the way we feel inwardly. Many of us become disillusioned
with our true inner picture, simple because of a misunderstanding of our personal purpose in life.
The fact that we allow this dissatisfaction to creep into our lives, we create an inner insecurity
within ourselves and we then start looking at others or alternatively we start behaving like others,
which is completely outside our true personality, thereby attempting to look different, behave
different, think different, dress different and when looking at our big picture, become dissatisfied
with our true personality, allowing society to name us as a personality type which is definitely
going to influence our level to be successful in life. Society has made us believe that we need to
conform to a standard of behavior, which then

Paul Laurence Dunbar Sympathy
As an African American author in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Jim Crow laws
prevailed and separate but equal was considered constitutional, Paul Laurence Dunbar attempted to
display the feelings of African Americans. Dunbar said that he wanted to interpret my own people
through song and story and prove to the many that we are more human than African (Baym and
Levine). In his poems We Wear the Mask and Sympathy , Dunbar skillfully revealed the discontent
of blacks facing unjust treatment by using metaphor and imagery. The author extracted from his
own experiences and family history in an endeavor to express the condition of his entire racein this
grueling period. Paul Laurence Dunbar, born in 1872, is the son of two former... Show more content

Throughout both poems, the author paints pictures to help the reader visualize the social
captivity of African Americans. The fourth line of We Wear the Mask reads, With torn and
bleeding hearts we smile (Dunbar). Dunbar creates a mental image in the reader s mind of
someone with a ripped open and bleeding chest that grits their teeth and smiles through the pain.
This would obviously be an excruciating situation. The writer uses such a vivid description to
expose how agonizing the condition truly was for African Americans in the late 19th century,
yet, they hid their suffering from others. If Dunbar s imagery in We Wear the Mask appears
flamboyant, it is even more so in Sympathy . The author constructs a beautiful depiction of
nature in the first stanza by using the phrases sun is bright , wind stirs soft , springing grass ,
stream of glass , first bird sings , first bud opes , and faint perfume (Dunbar). Although this seems
like a pleasant illustration, the first and last lines of the stanza help the reader see that it is not
enjoyable from the outside looking in. The caged bird can only watch others enjoy this stunning
scenery while he is trapped and cannot encounter it himself, just as African Americans observed
whites that had the freedom to enjoy the luxuries of America but could not partake in these
indulgences themselves. The imagery of the second stanza is more gruesome than the first.
Dunbar uses the phrases beats his wing , blood is red , cruel bars , pain still throbs , old scars ,
and keener sting to help the reader imagine a physical representation of the emotional misery of
black Americans due to the Jim Crow laws. Although the oppression African Americans confronted
was more emotional than physical, Dunbar s use of imagery helps the reader understand their
suffering in a tangible

My Papas Waltz By Theodore Roethke
My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke (380), was a great poem. When I first read the poem, I
pictured it as a young boy describing his father s abusive and drunken ways. And the hardship the
young boy dealt with living in his home. Despite the fact, what the young boy was dealing with, he
still seemed to adore his father. The motherseemed to be upset with the father as he was drunk
dancing with their child. However, I read it a few times more and I seemed to understand it in a
different point of view. I understood it as, the bond that a child and father had. All though many
readers do interpret words in different ways, because of the use of connotation and tone of the
poem, but the tone of the story is a child describing the lovehe has for... Show more content on

They could have been dancing fast and it cased the boy to get dizzy. In the next stanza (380) it
states, we romped until the pans/ slide of the kitchen shelf. Some will see as the father was too
drunk to dance and he fell over knocking the pans off the shelf. I understood it as a father and
son playing around in the kitchen which means they seemed contentment and accidentally
knocking down the pans the mother just cleaned. Then the mother seemed to be upset as they
knocked them down. In the third stanza (380) it says, the hand that held my wrist/ every step
you missed my right ear scraped a buckle this can be interpreted as the father was abusive,
because he was holding the young boy by his wrist instead of his hands. It seemed that the father
was trying to hit him with a belt and missed and instead it his ear. On the other hand, I seen it as
the child was being held with love and because of the dance and the different heights of the father
and son he had to hold him by the wrist, the young boy height would lead to the reason why his
ear will scrap on the father s belt when he missed a

Pre Marital Counseling (PACO 610)
February 18, 2010
Summary
Worthington has an approach that is dependent largely on the empathizing of the counselor rather
than the willingness of the involved (xiii). The essentials of this approach are the couples
willingness to be expressive in their affection only while continually being reserved in reactions to
provocations. Apparently, there is a chemical reaction which cascades more negativity (xxv), and
the positivity to negativity ratio needs lots of boosting (47).
The importance of the marriage relationship is that it is the only picture of Christ and His people
that exists on earth. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One can see their common values as assets that each partner holds. That is, they are not starting
with empty hands (129).
Positive change is brought about chiefly through direct request or verbal expectation (160). So much
of dialogue is idiomatic, hyperbole, sarcastic, critical, or manipulative. Say what you want needs
to be a constant piece of communication coaching from any counselor. Positive feedback is very
important. This is not saying that you agree with what is being said, but rather that you understand
what is being said and that the speaker knows that you understand (182). If a couple is busy
making deposits in the positivity bank of their spouse, an occasional blunderous withdrawal will
not feel as devastating (220).
Waitpower is essentially remembering that while you re fixing these problems, they didn t peak
overnight, and they won t leave that quickly either (56). Furthermore, if the couple knew they
could have an enjoyable marriage within two years, that wait seems like a rather minimal
investment in the grand scheme of the life of a marriage (110). The process of healing cannot be
hurried. It takes deliberate steps of patience and betterment. There are certain actions that will have
predictable results (133). The couple must consider their behavior and see how it drives certain

Cain And Abel Research Paper
Abel was killed by his older brother Cain. Genesis 4 shares the adult lives of brothers, Cain and
Abel. Cain and Abel were sons of Adam and Eve; however, Cain became very jealous and
envious of his younger brother, Abel. The motive of Cain s jealousy towards his brother, Abel,
derived from Abel s worship offering being accepted by God, their Creator. Abel s offering to
God was from the yield of the first fruit of his flock. Cain also provided a worship offering to
God. Nonetheless, Cain s presented offering wasn t acceptable. Hence, an envious spirit became
birthed within Cain, and Cain murdered his brother, Abel, because God accepted Abel s worship
offering but didn t accept Cain s offering. God became displeased with Cain and vowed that the

American Education System Of Education
According to the author, most of the foreigners studying in this country find it difficult to
understand the American system of education and the how to cope with American students. To
make foreign students understand and able to cope with the American higher education system, the
author explains some assumption that is behind the educationsystem. He noted that American higher
education system has a connection with both the mechanical feature and the cultural beliefs, but
not intellectual only as it is in many countries. People lacking knowledge of American culture may
find it difficult to cope with the system. Another assumption is that much more attention is given
the practical than the theoretical aspects. Workload is also demanding and required to produce
factual information in all academic papers. In addition, according to Richard Nisbett s, as the
author noted, Americans believe in a system of education which is more abstract, digital, objective,
analytical, rational, detached, and concerned with validity while, people from another culture
believes in a system which is more concrete, analogical, subjective, holistic, global, metaphorical,
empathetic, and concerned with relationships. (Althen. p. 211)
The author further explains that in terms of student s relationship, Americans are independent, and
always do not want to friends with foreign students which is contrary to another culture. On the
base of group work or study, American prefer to use email or

Enterprise Resource Planning in Business in India
CHAPTER I
Introduction
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
1.1.1 ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is one of the widely used software for managing and
integrating the whole business. It gives a real time view of business and uses a database in the
centre to manage and update the entire information flow in an organization. An ERP focuses on
three main aspects as its name suggests they are: Enterprise, Resource and Planning. It concentrates
on integrating all the departments in an organization which is considered to be the most difficult
part in an ERP implementation process.
The concept of ERP was initially applied to reduce the inventory costs and was mainly used in
manufacturing industry. The inventory levels were monitored and real time updates were done and
status reports were done. During 1970 s MRP (Material Requirements Planning) was majorly used
to schedule the production and understand the requirement of materials; later during 1980 s the
scope of MRP expanded to MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning) where it moved beyond
material handling and inventory control and extended itself to entire manufacturing operations like
Human resources, asset management etc.
These applications acted as the basic foundation for the ERP systems of today. ERP scope has
expanded way beyond manufacturing; its presence is inevitable in almost all the industries. It has
been able to accommodate all business functions by integrating both front and back end

In this following assignment, we will be developing monitoring systems for Suzlon Energy India.
The assignment is focused on an efficient development of a monitoring system.
2. Sustainability Monitoring and Reporting System
Sustainability monitoring system is used to implement and measure sustainable performance.
Reporting is a good practice for measuring and accounting performance, of the organization towards
the sustainable development and its goal (Roth, 2010).
Triple Bottom Line method is used to achieve sustainability monitoring and reporting. They
consider social, environmental and economic performances. The method also allows us to think
about the corporate social responsibilities (CSR). TBL can be used for challenges that can occur
in the future and and they can also find new opportunities. It is provides great value for the
organization, Therefore it should be integrated in business for its day to day operations (Triple
Bottom Line Reporting in Australia, 2003).
The Triple Bottom Line is,
Social: is what the organization does for the labor and community or the region in which the
organization conducts the business.

Ivan Ilych the protagonist from the novel The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy becomes ill and
is slowly dying. Ivan lives in depression and agony as his final days slowly diminish. Gerasim, the

who knew Ivan acknowledged his illness but not the fact that he was dying which aggravated
him, What tormented Ivan Ilych most was the deception, the lie, which for some reason they all

Due to the fact that the internal integration of good trade was accomplished with the creation of the
customs union, the Common Commercial Policy was used in order to formulate general rules
concerning all aspects of external good trade. In order to avoid the distortion of internal trade or
competiveness conditions, it has become imperative that the CCP extended to all directives
concerning trading of good with other states, like border evaluation and customs duties, and these
needed to be interpreted in such a way that the intra EU commerce would not be disturbed. Needless
to say, the European Union represents all its member states within GATT and has been singing
important commercial bilateral agreements with other states. Once the World Trade Organization
was created in 1995, the rules of international trade changed significantly, and therefore, the CCP
had to change as well. WTO has brought about a far more rigorous institutional framework for
international good trade and has set international rules concerning services and intellectual
property right. Thus, the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and Trade Related
Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) became one with GATT and all the WTO
members were required to subscribe to all three of them. The Lisbon Treaty signed in December

Amusing Ourselves To Death Postman Analysis
Clive Thompson and Neil Postman are authors who discuss specific mediums through writing.
Postman writes about the television and newspaper and Thompson writes about the internet age.
Both of these authors use the same approach on their respected mediums. In comparison they both
have the same piece of writing. Comparing side by side, it reveals a bigger idea that the
communication medium always outweigh the cons.
Postman, the author of Amusing Ourselves to Death , discusses how the television has negatively
affected discourse in America. He uses examples and historical research to make a claim of how it
is effecting discourse. The chapter we are looking into does not relate to the television but rather the
newspaper. His central claim of chapter four revolves around the newspaper. He talks about the
effect on society and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Give from both writings, they each present their claims in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
Postman uses a tone of enthusiasm throughout the chapter. In the examples he suggests in chapter
four, he can only infer what was going on. He claims that the people in colonial times were more
aware of their surroundings and into a wider range of subjects such as politics. Using common
sense it s not possible to know whether or not that each person personally knew their neighbor
deeply or into politics. So from using logical thinking Postman only uses positive examples to
confirm his claims. These examples may or may not be true but it is also the same thing Thompson
does. Thompson claims all the positivity of how the internet affects a person s mind. The only
difference between Thompson and Postman is that Thompson states negative effects but explains
how it is misunderstood. Another difference among the writings I that Thompson is able to refer
back to other mediums such meanwhile Postman has nothing to refer back to because he is limited
to his example and primitive

The Invasion Of The Crimea, And Donbass Of Russia
The invasion of the Crimea, and Donbass regions of Ukraine sent shock waves through European
capitals. Protests were made, sanction were applied, and thus started a spiral of events that have
brought Russia s relations with the West to an all new low. In recent years many in the West
(western democracies of Europe and North America) have been caught off guard by the actions of
the Russian state. In order for the West to find a way forward that reduces conflict there must be
an unbiased examination of the problem, and the actions taken by everyone involved. In doing so

(Friedman, NYT, 1991) However, as the newly independent nations of the near abroad (former
Soviet Republics) flexed their sovereignty for the first time, former servants of the Soviet Union
felt their security slipping away. Even before the advent of the Soviet Union, Russia enjoyed a
dominant relationship with its neighbors for hundreds of years; both politically and culturally. So
much so, that this hegemony came to be seen as the natural order off things (Giles, K. Russian

alarming. As former Warsaw Pact countries signed on to become members of the European Union,

advancing military threat. The Cold Warwas over, why expand NATO? Why is missile defense

No Formal Diagnostic Criteria For Postpartum Disorders And...
Introduction
Almost all countries have laws against killing of infants, but most give special consideration if
the child is less than 1 year old, or if the woman can be shown to be depressed or mentally ill.
Many infant deaths are never investigated and never charged because the cause of death is unclear
SIDs, accident, etc. If a doctor signs off as natural causes, it is unlikely that it will go any further.
U.S. law does not allow for reduced charges in the first year and a woman who kills her child is
generally charged with homicide. If convicted she faces a long prison sentence or even the death
penalty. Although she can plead not guilty by reason of insanity, there are no formal diagnostic

Fortunately, in each of these cases, the baby was rescued and survived without apparent serious
injury, but given the opportunity to hand over a baby to a fire station, church or hospital without
any questions asked or penalty imposed, one cannot help but wonder what social forces drive these
young women to harm or abandon their babies?
This paper will discuss the reasons why a young woman might feel unable to keep her baby/child.
We will discuss the legal ramifications of these choices and what other countries do. Finally we
will make policy recommendations regarding changes to US law.
Why a Woman Would Kill Her Child
There are many reasons why a woman would give up a child including her health, the child s
health, parental pressure, economics, and social, cultural and religious taboos. While in the U.S.,
having a baby while unmarried has become relatively common, and many families accept an out
of wedlock baby readily, many others do not. There are young people who are too afraid to admit
the situation to their parents and others who are simply not in a position, either financially or
mentally, to raise a child.
Neonaticide almost always occurs on the first day after birth (Friedman, Kavney and Reskick,
2012). It is generally linked with a hidden pregnancy and possibly denial of both pregnancy and
child. In these cases, the mother rarely gets prenatal care and may deliver in secret. According to

Vector. He would no longer invest in the company, but keep Dorpi on the board to protect his

debate about disclosures in the 10 K. Also, after hosting a babysitter it was imminent that Gerry

Gerry was going to be formally asked to resign on March 22, 1993. If he declined he would be

The Positive And Negative Effects Of Mosquitoes
According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, every year more than 1.5 million people
around the globe lose their lives due to mosquito borne diseases (2012). A mosquito is an insect
which lives around the world, especially in tropical and subtropical countries. The mosquito has
both positive and negative effects. As part of positive effects, larvae of mosquitoes are food for
fish and dragonflies, and when mosquitoes consume nectar, they help the flowers to pollinate. On
the other hand, mosquitoes make people annoyed and cause many diseases. World Health

The Reaction Of The Alcohols
The alcohols 1 propanol and 2 pentanol were converted into alkyl halides through a certain series
of steps. The first step was reflux, and the purpose of reflux is to add energy to the solution and not
lose any solution to evaporation. This energy helps initiate the acid catalyzed dehydration reaction
and also promotes rearrangement. The next step was distillation, which functioned to separate
liquids based on boiling points. The distillation utilizes boiling points to separate the alkyl halide
products from many impurities that might exist. Reflux is the first step instead of distillation
because refluxing allows the reaction to progress. If distillation was performed first, separation
would begin before the reaction was allowed time to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, since the voltage adapter connected to the sand bath may not have been working
properly, inconsistent heating patterns could have proposed a problem during reflux. Also, a few
extra drops of water may have invaded the product while the flask was cooling in the ice bath
during distillation. Furthermore, it is possible that not all of the organic layer was drained out of
the separatory funnel during separation, and maybe the drying agent was not allowed enough time
to remove all of the water. Errors will always hinder the success of a reaction, which will greatly
effect the percent yield.
Infrared spectroscopy (IR) is a very useful tool that can read a molecule s functional groups from
a small sample. By monitoring the disappearance and appearance of certain groups, it is possible
to confirm wether compounds have formed. In this experiment, for example, the reactants are
alcohols, whose IRs will show a large and broad absorption around 3500 cm 1. These hydroxide
groups are eventually replaced during the reactions, and the final products will not contain any
hydroxides. Therefore, the IR of the products will not show the large and broad hydroxide
absorption. Monitoring the disappearance of the hydroxide stretch will allow the reaction
progression to be monitored also. The complete disappearance of this stretch will confirm that a
new product has been formed. However, IR

It is really difficult to be an LGBT individual in the Philippines. For one, it s really hard to come
out as an LGBT because of the fear that our families won t accept us, or people will judge us
because of our sexual orientation and gender identity. We also see discrimination everywhere, from
the companies not accepting transgender applicants, or firing employees who do homosexual

Recent studies reveal that more big companies abroad are now accepting LGBT in their

IEP s were an improvement Educational plan for those who needed help, in the way, help could

almost wholly disregarded the results of large scale assessments in the consideration of IEP goals

that just because they failed a test doesn t meant they will drop out of school. However, there is
overwhelming evidence that shows students retained in a grade at one point or another, are
more likely to drop out of school. If students are retained for not passing an exam, it sends a

why students drop out of school, some of which are due to pressure of passing tests, or not

Importance Of The 7th Amendment
The average American appreciates the Seventh Amendment (Amendment VII), though the text itself
reflects much of the times in which it was drafted. They understand that it codifies the right to a
jury trial in certain civil cases, and hinders courts from overturning a jury s findings of fact. The
reason most people comprehend this amendment is because, The Seventh Amendment is generally
considered one of the more straightforward amendments of the Bill of Rights. In this essay, I will
share my opinion on the importance and efficacy of the 7th Amendment. I will also expound on
other elements of this Amendment and finally, I will discuss how this amendment affects my life.
An early version of the Seventh Amendment was introduced in Congress in 1789 by James
Madison, along with the other amendments, in response to Anti Federalist objections to the new
Constitution. Our founders believed a trial by a jurywas important. This idea came about based on
their life experience with the King of England. A major grievance annotated in the Declaration of
Independence was that the King would not permit trial by jury in the colonies. This was due to the
colonists often rejecting English law. This rejection is also known as jury nullification; where the
jury finds the law to be improper and decides not to punish the person in court. The significance of
the 7th Amendment, under the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution, is that it gives an
individual the right to a jury

Analysis Of Blood Wedding By Federico Garcia Lorca And...
Blood Wedding, a play written by Federico GarcГa Lorca and translated by Jo Clifford, employs
both symbolism and characterisation as literary techniques in the construction of the female
protagonists. Through the use of literary symbolism and characterisation, Lorca constructs
individual traits that enhance audience response by revealing cultural and temporal context against
which it was written. Women portray arguably the most significant roles and interpretation, with the
female roles are largely constructing the recurring themes of tradition and tension. It is via this
process that the narrative progresses, resulting in movement through our understanding of the
traditional values underpinning Spanish life and culture at the time of writing. Throughout,
emphasis is placed upon traditional religious values such as arranged marriage, particularly
highlighting gender roles and female oppression. In addition, the Andalusian society is largely
governed under patriarchal jurisdiction. This essay will examine how Lorca has employed
symbolism and characterisation, and to what extent they permit a successful construction of the
women in Blood Wedding. Lorca utilizes a range of symbols to create the atmosphere, in order to
apprise the audience of Andalusian society and the approach to which female gender roles are
understood. Initially, frequent use and significant emphasis is placed upon the natural symbolism to
exhibit notions of growth, femininity, sensuality, fertility and

President Mckinley s Influence On The Cuban Revolution
On June 26, 1897 President McKinley also convinced Madrid to end the policy of reconcentration
and try having programs to help the Cuban people. President McKinley proclaimed that America
and Cuba had a special relationship this seemed to be a threat towards Spain and that they should
heed Americas request to stop battling Cuba. The killing of Antonio CГЎnoras del Castillo made it
easier for each region to compromise. Because of his death General Valeriano Weyler wanted to
help the refuges and to also form a Cuban autonomy. The Queen of Spain Maria Christina came
up with this plan during November of 1897 the rebels refused this proposition because they
knew that Spain would stay in power and have a strong army. Spain did not give up the idea of
being in power and kept fighting a useless war. Many of the Spanish peninsulares hated the idea
of autonomy and would do anything in their power to stop the new official Spanish policy. The
revolts that were going on during this time made America not trust Spain and made America
believe that Spain cannot control their affairs. Cuba had many revolts for example, both sides in
Cuba preferred war to reform, and the rebels declared for full independence (342). On February

JFK has had many achievements in his life and he was much more than a good president. In my
opinion JFK was a naval hero and one of Americas greatest presidents.
The Cuban Missile Crisis was October 16th through the 28th in the year of 1962, and it was one
of the scariest situations that could have ended in a nuclear war. Earlier that month John F.
Kennedy send a plane to spy on them and see if they were doing anything they were not supposed
to and he saw that Cuba had nuclear missiles set out and they could fire them at any given moment
if they wanted to. John F. Kennedy saw this and the next day he immediately went to talk to the
leader of the Soviet Union. The leader of the Soviet Union was named Nikita Khrushchev and it
was very hard for John F. Kennedy to make a deal with him so that he would put his nuclear

  • 2. Coercive Act Dbq The Coercive Acts, also known as the Intolerable Acts, were a series of British measures passed in 1774 designed to punish Massachusetts colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The Intolerable Acts were the cause for the American War for Independence because the colonists felt they were being controlled with the implement of vigorous policies in the American colonies. The Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, the Act for the Impartial Administration of Justice, the Quebec Act, and the Quartering Act were all passed as a retaliation to the Boston Tea Party and gave colonists the right to react. The Boston Port Act angered the colonists the most, the Act closed the Boston harbor to all shipping until the town had compensated the Dutch East India Company for the destruction of its tea and assured the King of it s future loyalty. It prohibited ships from docking in Boston, those ships caught docking were confiscated along with all cargo. The Boston Port Act continued the movement of colonial unity in respect to their view of England, and colonial unification. • 3. Abolition Of The Death Penalty Abolition of the Death Penalty Capital Punishment, otherwise known as the death penalty, first dates back to the English Colonies in the 1600s. The people of this time adopted this tradition to punish people who had committed crimes of murder, treason, theft, robbery, rape, or other horrible offenses. In 1776, people already began to see the inefficiency of the death penalty. Benjamin Rush, a physician and signer of the Declaration of Independence, stated that the punishment of murder by death is contrary to reason and to the order and happiness of society. Rush believed that the death penalty should only be a product of England, and that America should not condone premeditated killing by the government, but rather leave that practice in England. In 1794, the state of Pennsylvania began to promote the idea of restricting capital punishment. Soon after, other states followed Pennsylvania s lead and either reduced the number of capital crimes or got rid of capital punishment all together. By 1846, the state of Michigan was the first state in the United States to outlaw the death penalty. After Michigan s implementation of the new law, other northern states, such as Rhode Island and Wisconsin, outlawed it as well. However, states in the South kept the death Penalty for a variety of reasons. One of the most important reasons it was kept in the South was because of the high crime rate and slavery. At times when states would get rid of the death penalty, they would end up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thesis Statement Attending school as an adult, and maintaining a source of employment can be a daunting task, as many adults who had to delay their college education must know. One of the most challenging aspects of adult life consists of learning how to adjust accordingly to the rigors of life at home as well as the workplace. Failure to do so can lead to a life of complete disarray, stress, illness and exhaustion. II. Body Paragraph #1 Topic Sentence #1 Traditionally the typical age group for freshmen in college was between 18 to 19 years of age. We must look at the adverse effects that those long work hours have on the human body. Overworked individuals can suffer from work related illnesses as a result of excessive stress. Work related stress can result from extended hours due to mandatory overtime in some case. An employer s rigid work hours which can prevent employees from tending to occasional issues at home can also be blamed for stress on the job. Employees suffering the effects of stress in the workplace tend to have bouts of absenteeism. A. Supporting evidence Absenteeism in the workplace is a major issue, with tangible and intangible costs. Although the absentee loses wages in the process, the major loss is at the expense of the employer. The ebrary book by Lynn Tylczak, (Attacking absenteeism 1990), describes the intangible costs of absenteeism as follows: Absentee costs are difficult to quantify. Experts estimate direct wage loses of more than $30 billion per year, and that s just the beginning. Employers also need to consider the costs of supplementary or replacement workers. These costs include: Regular wages, overtime wages, and company benefits Supplementary benefits, such as Social Security, worker s compensation, and unemployment compensation Administration of recruitment, selection orientation, and training Penalty costs resulting from delays. For example, in the United States, some had accused media companies of being biased towards a political party while they clearly support the other. It is a fact that this accusation, no matter how ridiculous they may sound, still holds some elements of truth in it. Since it is undeniable that the media industry is in one way or another affected by external factors, this essay will discuss the various ways of how movies and TV shows are affected by the political and economic factor. The essay focuses on movies and TV shows because they generally capture a larger scale of audience, causing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in a Disney cartoon show, DuckTales which ran from 1987 to 1990, there are many moments in which the creators try to portray that capitalism is a better way of life compared to Socialism or Communism (Dofman and Mattelart, 1975). In the book, How to Read Donald Duck (1975), it is argued that the Donald Duck character is an excessively materialistic character which values money among other things (Dofman and Mattelart, 1975). The book also argues that there are multiple moments in the cartoon shows which shows that the characters are only successful in their career and ultimately their life after they are able to achieve great wealth while the poor and working class are looked down upon. Since the show was released towards the end of the Cold War, it could be said that the show was heavily influenced by the American economical ideology which is consumerism due to the United States being in the Capitalist bloc. Apart from the United States, the DuckTales show was also aired in other countries such as The United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia, it is clear that the show was made not only as a propaganda medium to influence to American people but also people worldwide, especially children into believing that Capitalism is the only way of life. Thus, it is only wise to theorise that the show could be created as a part of the Cold War itself as it undermines the Communism ideology that was practiced in Soviet Union during that time. In the book, How to read film (1977), the writer suggested that the character Donald Duck would had been different if the United States didn t adhere to the capitalist ideology (Monaco, ... Therefore, a hero is someone who is self sacrificing and courageousness, sets an example, and is never selfish or cowardly. A herois a personwho nobly puts others before themselves. My parents are two people who exhibit their selflessness on a day to day basis. • 7. The Role Of Animal Burial In Ancient Egypt Man s Best Friends It s a Western idea that a dog is a man s best friend. Yet, when our canine companions get sick, or hurt, or inevitably grow old and they die, what happens? If Spot was lucky, he might get buried in the back yard inside an old shoebox or crate, wrapped in an old towel or blanket, with some dirt thrown on him. Before long his shallow gravewill be overgrown by grass and dandelions and prickles. All it will take is one quick swipe of a lawnmower and any trace of your beloved pet will be gone forever. As much as we love our pets and rely on domesticated animals for food and for other goods, they are essentially disposable. We are a society that flushes our dead goldfish down the drain. Not so in Egypt. While the ancient Egyptians exploited a variety of animals, the animal kingdom was closely integrated into their culture, especially when it came to their funerary practices. There is evidence of ritualized animal burial from Predynastic times onward. At the graveyard in Heliopolis dogs and goats were buried in a nearly 1:4 ratio to human beings. Although in few numbers, evidence of animal burial was also found in Maadi and Wadi Digla. In all three cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way they conduct themselves in prisonare different; as are they way they interact with other inmates. The Perception Of The Human Sciences Each of us are different in many ways and that fact cannot possible be disputed by anyone who has any back ground in the human sciences, as it has been scientifically proven that we all have unique finger prints, DNA, hair, looks, behavior and facial expressions and the combination of these things make us unique personality types so to speak. We also function from two different perspectives and we need to understand how each one of us functions. We each like to think that we are special (which we are) and in that portrayal system, we mostly portray what we perceive we want people to think about us. On the other side of the coin we have a reality in what we truly believe about ourselves and the way we feel inwardly. Many of us become disillusioned with our true inner picture, simple because of a misunderstanding of our personal purpose in life. The fact that we allow this dissatisfaction to creep into our lives, we create an inner insecurity within ourselves and we then start looking at others or alternatively we start behaving like others, which is completely outside our true personality, thereby attempting to look different, behave different, think different, dress different and when looking at our big picture, become dissatisfied with our true personality, allowing society to name us as a personality type which is definitely going to influence our level to be successful in life. Paul Laurence Dunbar Sympathy As an African American author in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Jim Crow laws prevailed and separate but equal was considered constitutional, Paul Laurence Dunbar attempted to display the feelings of African Americans. Dunbar said that he wanted to interpret my own people through song and story and prove to the many that we are more human than African (Baym and Levine). In his poems We Wear the Mask and Sympathy , Dunbar skillfully revealed the discontent of blacks facing unjust treatment by using metaphor and imagery. Throughout both poems, the author paints pictures to help the reader visualize the social captivity of African Americans. The fourth line of We Wear the Mask reads, With torn and bleeding hearts we smile (Dunbar). Dunbar creates a mental image in the reader s mind of someone with a ripped open and bleeding chest that grits their teeth and smiles through the pain. This would obviously be an excruciating situation. The writer uses such a vivid description to expose how agonizing the condition truly was for African Americans in the late 19th century, yet, they hid their suffering from others. If Dunbar s imagery in We Wear the Mask appears flamboyant, it is even more so in Sympathy . The author constructs a beautiful depiction of nature in the first stanza by using the phrases sun is bright , wind stirs soft , springing grass , stream of glass , first bird sings , first bud opes , and faint perfume (Dunbar). Although this seems like a pleasant illustration, the first and last lines of the stanza help the reader see that it is not enjoyable from the outside looking in. The caged bird can only watch others enjoy this stunning scenery while he is trapped and cannot encounter it himself, just as African Americans observed whites that had the freedom to enjoy the luxuries of America but could not partake in these indulgences themselves. The imagery of the second stanza is more gruesome than the first. Dunbar uses the phrases beats his wing , blood is red , cruel bars , pain still throbs , old scars , and keener sting to help the reader imagine a physical representation of the emotional misery of black Americans due to the Jim Crow laws. Although the oppression African Americans confronted was more emotional than physical, Dunbar s use of imagery helps the reader understand their suffering in a tangible ... Despite the fact, what the young boy was dealing with, he still seemed to adore his father. The motherseemed to be upset with the father as he was drunk dancing with their child. In recent years many in the West (western democracies of Europe and North America) have been caught off guard by the actions of the Russian state. In order for the West to find a way forward that reduces conflict there must be an unbiased examination of the problem, and the actions taken by everyone involved. This paper will discuss the reasons why a young woman might feel unable to keep her baby/child. We will discuss the legal ramifications of these choices and what other countries do. Finally we will make policy recommendations regarding changes to US law. Why a Woman Would Kill Her Child There are many reasons why a woman would give up a child including her health, the child s health, parental pressure, economics, and social, cultural and religious taboos. The first step was reflux, and the purpose of reflux is to add energy to the solution and not lose any solution to evaporation. They understand that it codifies the right to a jury trial in certain civil cases, and hinders courts from overturning a jury s findings of fact. The reason most people comprehend this amendment is because, The Seventh Amendment is generally considered one of the more straightforward amendments of the Bill of Rights. In this essay, I will share my opinion on the importance and efficacy of the 7th Amendment. I will also expound on other elements of this Amendment and finally, I will discuss how this amendment affects my life. An early version of the Seventh Amendment was introduced in Congress in 1789 by James Madison, along with the other amendments, in response to Anti Federalist objections to the new Constitution. Our founders believed a trial by a jurywas important. This idea came about based on their life experience with the King of England. A major grievance annotated in the Declaration of Independence was that the King would not permit trial by jury in the colonies. This was due to the colonists often rejecting English law. This rejection is also known as jury nullification; where the jury finds the law to be improper and decides not to punish the person in court. The significance of the 7th Amendment, under the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution, is that it gives an individual the right to a jury ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Analysis Of Blood Wedding By Federico Garcia Lorca And... Blood Wedding, a play written by Federico GarcГa Lorca and translated by Jo Clifford, employs both symbolism and characterisation as literary techniques in the construction of the female protagonists. Through the use of literary symbolism and characterisation, Lorca constructs individual traits that enhance audience response by revealing cultural and temporal context against which it was written. Women portray arguably the most significant roles and interpretation, with the female roles are largely constructing the recurring themes of tradition and tension. It is via this process that the narrative progresses, resulting in movement through our understanding of the traditional values underpinning Spanish life and culture at the time of writing. Throughout, emphasis is placed upon traditional religious values such as arranged marriage, particularly highlighting gender roles and female oppression. In addition, the Andalusian society is largely governed under patriarchal jurisdiction. This essay will examine how Lorca has employed symbolism and characterisation, and to what extent they permit a successful construction of the women in Blood Wedding. Lorca utilizes a range of symbols to create the atmosphere, in order to apprise the audience of Andalusian society and the approach to which female gender roles are understood. Initially, frequent use and significant emphasis is placed upon the natural symbolism to exhibit notions of growth, femininity, sensuality, fertility and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The killing of Antonio CГЎnoras del Castillo made it easier for each region to compromise. Because of his death General Valeriano Weyler wanted to help the refuges and to also form a Cuban autonomy. The Queen of Spain Maria Christina came up with this plan during November of 1897 the rebels refused this proposition because they knew that Spain would stay in power and have a strong army. Spain did not give up the idea of being in power and kept fighting a useless war. Many of the Spanish peninsulares hated the idea of autonomy and would do anything in their power to stop the new official Spanish policy. The revolts that were going on during this time made America not trust Spain and made America believe that Spain cannot control their affairs.
