Eating Disorders Affecting Our Image of Beauty; Research...
When Looking at a well know published magazine like Vogue, Glamour, and Top Model, they all
show beautiful women with extraordinary beauty and amazing sense of style and fashion. But when
looking at the models, do they really resemble the average women reading these magazines that the
ads and articles are intended for? Women and men are going through great lengths hurting themselves
to achieve such figures that the magazines show as beautiful. These people suffer from eating
disorders are starving themselves or eating then purging to get rid of the food. These are serious and
isn t something that can simply be stopped by just eating a normal diet again. On the other side of the
spectrum there are people that have another type of eating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a journal entry G.N Hidayah and A.H. Syahrul Bariah wrote, Eating Attitude, Body Image, Body
Composition and Dieting Behavior among Dancers . They discovered eating disorders among dancers
was common and a problem they struggle with. 23 dancers at the studio took the survey. The survey
was broken down asking question on diet habits, and other eating disorder symptoms. 22 said that they
constantly think about weight and shape. 18 of the dancers are afraid of weight gain. 11 said that they
have dieted to lose weight. 4 said they have vomited or have taken diet pills to get rid of weight. 20
have said that they have tried exercising to get rid of weight (Hidyah and Bariah). The information
presented shows that the dancers have conflicts with their bodies for reasons of their own. What s
important to notice from the data collected is the dancers have a set image that they see they should be
otherwise a large percentage of them wouldn t have been afraid of gaining weight or afraid of their
weight. None of the were diagnosed with an eating disorder but symptoms where present in the data
and should be made aware. A person doesn t just get this disorder. An eating disorder builds after an
extended period of time. In the beginning of the disorder

European Court of Justice
Introduction:
We have chosen to write this assignment on the European Court of Justice (ECJ), looking into its role
in the European integration process, and how its rulings and judgments have affected the business
framework. We will also be looking into the effects of its rulings on state sovereignty, and how in
some cases its rulings have limited states power over certain policy areas and handed them to the
European Union. We will start by looking at the radical jurisprudence of the European court of justice,
and what political reactions have arisen to that, and how that has changed/affected the integration
process. To get a better understanding, we will incorporate the use of neo functionalism and rational
choice new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main reason behind the spillover effect is increased effectiveness. Two important spillovers here
are functional and political. This allows institutions to expand their activities to areas not under their
jurisdiction/mandate so they can function more effectively. In cases regarding free trade there is bound
to be an increasing amount of spillover, due to the wide ranging nature of the economic issues,
especially on issues such as trade barriers and tariffs. This has been evident from the verdict in the
case of Cassis de Dijon which we will return to later on. Based on various rulings the ECJ could be
seen as an active promoter of the spillover effect.
In the Maastricht treaty the principle of subsidiarity was incorporated into the treaty, which the British
government pushed for. The reason for this was to limit the transfer of power from the member states
to the EU institutions. The decisions should be taken at the lowest possible level, closest to the citizen.
However, the concept of subsidiarity remains to be defined clearly, and thus holds immense ambiguity.
As a consequence, subsidiarity can be used as an argument both by those who desire greater autonomy
for member states and by those who want the EU to become a federation.
Neofunctionalism argues that actors, whether

A Balanced Consumption Of Micronutrients
The purpose of a balanced consumption of macronutrients in foods such as carbohydrates, fats and
proteins is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which prolongs one s lifetime. However, over 2 billion
people across the globe is developing the obesity epidemic; a preventable disease that can easily be
cured through a healthy lifestyle that consists of careful, considerate choices of foods and an exercise
routine. Obesity is a condition that has accumulated excess body fat, defined by many causing factors
such as genetics, environmental and psychological influences, overconsumption of certain nutrients in
a diet and the extent of physical activity. Although there are various agents, excessive consumption of

Being a disaccharide, the body only needs to attain the straightforward process of breaking down a
two molecule chain of carbohydrates by transporting the fructose molecule directly to the liver to be
converted into glucose to be absorbed in the blood. This then causes a rise in both sugar concentration
in the blood and the release of metabolic hormones, which results in a quicker release in energy and
earlier experiences of cravings. If cravings are satisfied, and made into a habit, a continuous buildup
of glucose stores take place. Although the overconsumption of sugar can lead to obesity, the regularity
status of exercise and other nutrients present in foods, such as carbohydrates and fats, are equally as
responsible for the clumps of excess body fat if over consumed.
Carbohydrates are fundamental for managing a pleasant state of the body s health. It is the main
source of energy that is made available for human to be ingested and synthesized, as it yields glucose.
Vital organs including, the heart, brain and skeletal muscles are dependent on glucose as the primary
source of energy in order to function normally. Monosaccharides are the basic unit of sugars as it
comes in different forms judged on different molecules linked together or as a chain (Figure 1.0).

Running Out Of Time Literary Analysis
The two books The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and Running Out of Time by Margaret
Peterson Haddix have very similar settings. While Dorothy travels to a strange land called the land of
Oz, Jessie travels out of her 1840 s village and back to the current time of 1996. While both girls need
to learn how to interact with situations they aren t used to but they use different methods. Also the
girls have totally different reasons as to why they are there and while they are there they are trying to
accomplish different things. The two books have very similar Author s choice in setting. In The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz Dorothy is swept away from her home in Kansas in a huge twister. She lands
in a world called the land of oz filled with people who look different and act differently. Dorothy
doesn t know anybody and she has no idea where she is. She has to find a way to blend in and get to
the wizard (Oz) so she can get back home to kansas and her aunt and uncle. While she stood looking
eagerly at the strange and beautiful sights, she noticed coming towards her a small group of the
queerest people she d ever seen. (Baum, page 5) The quote explains that Dorothy was swept away into
a new world with different people and places she s not used to. Just like in The Wizard of Oz Jessie in

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Genetically Modified Organisms
Genetically Modified Organisms Transgenics and Biopharming In today s world, the need for more
efficient and better quality foods grows greater. The population on earth is thought to increase to nine
billion by the year 2050. To support this population, the application of biotechnology is used to
modify foods. The reason why foods are genetically modified is to produce better quality food which
can also fight off pests, insects, weeds and diseases. Not only can you insert genes to induce these
effects, you can also insert genes to produce medicines which is called biopharming. This then allows
farmers to reduce the use of pesticides and herbicides (agric.wa.gov.au). GMOs can help protect the
world s food supply and reduce the cost on farmers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What happens if all the new GMOs die out due to a certain disease that only affects them? The idea
that GMOs can save the world s food supply is a very old idea and only a small amount of
professional companies can afford the cost and risk of undergoing genetically modified foods. Very
serious risks are associated with transgenics and biopharming yet as the future draws near we look
towards it. I personally believe that we should investigate this technology further in order to provide
better quality foods, increase production, reduce costs and support human life on earth. Safety
protocols do need to be taken seriously in this however, precautions like growing the GM foods in
greenhouses, running safety checks and intensive

Glasgow Art Club Research Paper
The story of Glasgow s contemporary art success begins at a time in its relatively recent past when the
city was booming.
The Victorian merchants who made Glasgow flourish appreciated good design. From the 1890s,
creations by local architects such as Alexander Greek Thomson and John Burnet, sprung up all around
the city.
The merchants liked to decorate their mansions with fine art so institutions such as The Royal
Glasgow Institute for the Fine Arts and the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists were established,
providing a focus for artists work to be seen and purchased.
Glasgow Art Club, opened in 1867 and offered a social hub for artists and buyers. The Glasgow
School of Art had also opened in 1845, providing an education in the advancement of fine art, design
and architecture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

imagination of four artists who attended the art school in the last years of the 19th century. Charles
Rennie Mackintosh, Herbert MacNair, Margaret and Frances MacDonald, known as The Four, created
a unique style, influenced by Art Nouveau, Japanese art and Celtic imagery.
It was Mackintosh, though, who became the star turn. He went on to design his masterwork, the

C. S. Lewis s Chronicles Of Narnia
The Twentieth century was fraught with many tragic moments. The two main tragedies of this century
were the two world wars. Many lives were lost due to these wars and many nations grieved these
losses, especially Britain. The world, after the two wars, turned to despair and all faith and trust in
God in a movement of modernism. Through this movement of modernism people rejected the idea of
the antiques and lost faith in religion. With the world wars, leading to the postmodern period, this only
got worse. People believed that God left them as they all asked the question, not so new to us, why has
an all good God allowed all of these horrible things to happen? When people have placed their trust in
an all good, all powerful God and He does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lewis s Chronicles of Narnia series. The first story to be published was The Lion, the Witch, and the
Wardrobe. The pevensie children are evacuated into the country during the midst of world war two.
While under the care of professor Kirke they come to find a wardrobe where it leads to the fictitious
land of Narnia. Narnia seems beautiful, but has been under the control of the white witch for at least a
hundred years and the children are called to defeat her with the help of the Christ like figure, Aslan.
When Aslan sacrifices himself the children must somehow defeat the witch, but due to a deeper magic
that has been around before the dawn of time,in which an innocent person will one day be resurrected.
When Aslan resurrects he helps defeat the witch and peace is restored. This story helps give hope that
good will always conquer evil, no matter how grim it seems as Jesus did when He sacrificed himself
on the cross for us and resurrected three days later.
While not only finding God in the midst of suffering, there is also the fact that we need to live in
virtue. T.S. Elliott explains this in his poem, The Waste Land, in which he describes a society that has
become violent and immoral, much like the society described in Lord of the Flies where children are
left on an island and must survive. Eliot was describing a society after the first world war and would
only continue to get worse after the second world war. In the end of the poem, Eliot prescribes a
solution to keep society from furthering into this waste land through giving, self control, and

Jane Goodall s Theory Of Primate Behavior
Anthropologists over time recognized several physical and behavioral traits that connect humans to
other primates, but can primates learn to manipulate tools, imitate, cooperate, communicate, and
reason somewhat like humans? By studying the various characteristics of primate behavior among
their various societies, many scientists are able to induce a stronger understanding of human relations
among primates and further our knowledge and understandings about evolution. The existence or
nonexistence of cultural patterns in subhuman primates may best be determined by observations
amongst different primate groups in their natural habitats. culture is dependent upon the ability of an
animal within a social group to acquire from another group member ... Show more content on

Anthropologists have come to understand the evolution of man s behavior by observing our closest
primates such as chimpanzees. Cooperative behavior among primates can have many similarities and
differences when compared to humans. Humans are intensively cooperative by communication by
languages and interactions with others. Nonhuman primates can very much communicate very easily
among their social groups, for example, the chimpanzee can very much strategically cooperate much
like human, and also the chimpanzee can spontaneously initiate and maintain cooperative behaviors.
Therefore are able to cooperate to reach a goal such as hunting for food or scaring off dangerous
predators. This cooperative trait can really show the intelligence of these primates and how they are

Charlotte Trust Quotes
Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none, said William Shakespeare, a talented author. In the book, The
True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, by Avi, the theme of trust is to only trust the people closest to
you. If you trust everyone, then if people are lying you won t know who it is because you trust them
and you are putting yourself in danger. In this book, I think the only one Charlotte, the main character,
should trust, is herself.
In the first part of the book Charlotte said, Appalled, I jumped off the stool. I don t believe you! I

Purpose Of Prayer In Public Schools
My Position
Ever since prayer was eradicated from the public school system, the quality of education has shown a
constant statistical deterioration. Society presumes that the supernatural is nonexistent and that reality
must be a dentist side based solely on man s interpretation. By reentering prayer into school, it would
acknowledge the presence of something higher than man. By granting prayer in school, a crucial
standard is set. It shows students that they are more than just a clump of random cells aimlessly
wandering the earth. Prayer is an action that trumpets that life is more than success. Prayer is heavily
opposed because it serves as an antithesis to the beliefs of those who create the policies for the public
school system (Creation Today). An underlying purpose of public education is to frame honorable
civilians. The majority of the American people are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sensationalized by the media, God was kicked out of the public school (Waggoner). World renowned
evangelicals supposedly applied at the court for appropriately separating church and state. Despite the
shock that overcame many American religious leaders, the rulings did not come out of nowhere. A
case like Engle v. Vitale was expected sooner or later. A law professor and constitutional historian,
Steven Green, talked about how the foundations of the Court s decisions in the second half of the 20th
century were initially laid during the second half of the 19th century (Waggoner). Green says that the
debate over the school was the closest that America had ever come to having a national conversation
about the meaning of the religion clauses of the constitution. There have been attempted to re
introduce the reading of the Bible into schools. The reading of the Bible was still allowed in many of
our nation s public schools but it had become so nonsectarian that many courts ruled that these

Hate Crime And The United Kingdom
Whilst hate crime has been represented in the media and legislation for many years, particularly in the
US, definitions of the term have been transient and changing. The Home Office issued a report in
2013 which demonstrated to both the public and law enforcement officials the most recent formal
definition of hate crime in the United Kingdom: any criminal offence which is perceived, by the
victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice towards someone based on a
personal characteristic (Home Office, 2013). Reviewing statistics on hate crime in the United
Kingdom, it becomes clear that there are two main official sources for data; the Crime Survey for
England and Wales, and crime recorded by the police. Based on combined data from the CSEW
2011/12 and 2012/13, there was an estimated 278,000 hate crimes taken place on average each year
(Home Office, 2013). However, when compared with the data shown by police recorded crime, there
are huge disparities. Between 2012/13, only 42,236 incidents of hate crime were recorded by police,
which accounts for approximately 1% of all recorded crime (Home Office, 2013).
It can be argued that hate crime is an umbrella term (Johnson, 2013: 317), such crimes are now also
classified by five specific strands, which are annually monitored by police forces in the UK in order to
evaluate the effects of preventive methods, and to calculate any fluctuations in trends of hate crime.
The five strands consist of race;

the democratic party is considered a more conservative political party in the terms of military funding.

Safety and security are my main concerns when it comes to the topic of defense spending. If America
makes the choice to follow the democratic view and decrease defense spending, it will only set us
further behind the technological curve in comparison to other countries. It is no surprise that China is
one of the world s leading technology manufacturers. While China is still considered an
industrialization society, America has moved into the post industrialization classification when studied
sociologically. Industrialization societies provide goods, while post industrialization societies provide
services. This puts America in a disadvantage in this situation. In war, the best strategy is to exploit
your opposition s weakness in order to gain the advantage. In reference to America, Technology would
be the weakness to exploit. This is where the democratic view shows extreme defects. The only way to
ensure the safety of America and its citizens is to use this increase in defense spending to prevent

a while but in Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men , he illustrates the loneliness of ranch life in the
early 1930 s and shows how people are driven to try and find friendship in order to escape from
loneliness. Steinbeck creates a lonely and blue atmosphere at many times in the book. He uses names
and words such as the town near the ranch called Soledad , which means loneliness and the card game

Who Is King Leopold II Colonize Congo Imperialism
Imperialism is when a policy of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or
military force. King Leopold II colonized the free state of Congo through imperialism. He brought
formal education systems into play. Within this new found education system they taught many
indigenous languages in the school that the government sponsored or paid for. Once the free state of
Congo became the Belgian Congo, King Leopold II also greatly improved the healthcare system that
was once non existing to a program that was steadily improving not just the care given, but the overall
well being of Belgian Congo. In saying that there were still things that were horrid and happened in

The Stravinsky Opera directed by Julie Taymor, is a loose adaptation from the play Oedipus Rex
written by Sophocles. This film narrates Oedipus life and how the oracle affects his life. The fact that
Stravinsky Opera is a loose adaptation makes the film different than what we could imagine while
reading the original play, besides the film shows us that the director is able to see through situation,
interpret them and demonstrate how everything happened instead of making a summary of certain
moments like how Sophocles did in Oedipus Rex s play. On the other hand, the structure used by
Taymor in the film which implements costumes, actions and animals, helps the spectator to see
through situations in the film letting us know how the film will ... Show more content on

The Oedipus Rex tells us a summary of some moments in the play, skipping actions made by some
characters in the play and avoiding explanations of how certain situations happened. The Oedipus Rex
s play clearly explains that Iocaste (Oedipus mother) was found death in her room by one of the
messengers because she could not face the reality of being married with her own son who killed her
husband and took his place in tebas. On the other hand, the Stravinsky Opera clearly shows us how
Iocaste hang herself the moment after she steps out the scene when she was talking with his son and
goes to her room to kill herself with a white cloth. This clearly shows us that the author and director of
this opera had a great imagination in order to demonstrate what was not explained in the play;
moreover, the author indicates when everything happened and how did it

Knights Of The Middle Ages
The word chivalry originates from the Old French word chevalerie which can be translated to skill in
riding a horse . Only the men who could skillfully control the strength and speed of a horse were
likely to survive in combat. Over time the word came to stand for much more, in particular, a code of
behavior, conduct and ethics to which all knights were held. These knights were bound by a code of
honor. Each knight had to swear that he would defend the weak, the poor, widows, orphans, and the
oppressed. He was to be courteous, especially to women; brave; loyal to his leaders; and concerned
about the welfare of his subordinates, or those of lesser rank and position (Schlager par. 30). Knights

68). The Knight fought in multiple crusades. The pilgrims are going to Canterbury because
Archbishop Thomas Beckett s shrine is there and it has become the most important place in the
country for pilgrims to visit. The Knight is going on this pilgrimage to Canterbury to render thanks
(Chaucer 5) to God for keeping his son and he safe and alive during the wars. The Knight has a
religious and moral obligation that is partly based on his oath to serve God. Almost every European
knight was quick to protect the church and to fight its enemies.
The Knight s striking military career is considered prestigious and esteemed. The Knight has fought in
fifteen mortal battles (Chaucer 4) all over the world. He fought in Prussia, Lithuania, Granada, North
Africa, Anatolia, and Russia. His devotion to his career brings attention to the significance of fighting
for the Knight, it is during his violent interactions with others, that his loyalty to the knightly code
should be most apparent (n.a. par. 2). The Knight s devotion to his work in the military can be
assumed by how Chaucer describes his appearance when he begins his pilgrimage. In contrast to his
son, the Squire, who wears fine clothing embroidered like a meadow bright and full of freshest
flowers, red and white (Chaucer 5), the Knight, Chaucer reveals, is not gaily dressed (Chaucer 5)
which divulges that

My Most Unforgettable Week Of My Life
POW! I dive left to go for the save. The game had just ended and we were now in the penalty
shootout. I had to make so many saves in the game to get us to a PK shootout. Back in March, my
parents signed me up for the soccer camp with a friend. Last year my parents won a ticket for the
soccer camp, at first I did not want to go but since the camp was full and there were no other tickets I
had to go so I did. After the first two days I really liked the camp, by the end of it I realized that it
would have been more fun with a friend. This year we got a friend that could go to it this time. There
were supposed to be three of us, but one of the friend s parent forgot to sign their kid into the camp.
This was my most unforgettable week of my life because this was just such a good camp, plus I got
one of my highlights of my goalie career to me. The camp that I went to was at Dail soccer/track
complex at NC State University. It had a baseball field right next to it with a camp going on for
softball. It also took place on the other two fields across the street, yet there is a tunnel underneath the
street that we took. For the games for overtime it did not work the same as normal we went straight to
the penalty shootout, instead of having two overtime periods. This week happened to me because my
parents were able to sign me up for the camp. My parents learned about the camp from last year. They
had won a ticket into the camp and since it was sold out my parents looked at the web page for it to
see what it was about and thought I would enjoy it, so I went to it. On the first day of camp we went
and filled everything out so I could have fun and any insurance for the camp, I don t know I went to
the camp to have fun I did not pay any attention to the signing in anything else to start the camp. After
that, I went and found my group I was supposed to be in which turned out to be the second goalie
group. In the second goalie group, we were more like a group of people that have some problems with
ourselves. Most of the people in our group would talk when our coach talked or wanted them to pay
attention. Then there were the other people, like me, in the group who wanted to get as far as possible
in training and wanted to

Desire May Lead To Destruction In A Streetcar Named Desire
Desire May Lead to Destruction In the play Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams shows
Blanche as a symbol of a Southern lady, the pinnacle of a civilization. In the forties, upper class
southern women s expectations were based on a Victorian model of a woman. The perception was that
women did not express their sexuality and wore clothing that did not expose any body parts. Also,
women did not have many roles except for a housewife, and two appropriate jobs as a teacher or a
nurse. Blanche is an English teacher from a Mississippi. She was raised in a wealthy family and got a
great education. At sixteen years old, she fell deeply in love with a boy named Allan Gray (Williams
1857). Their marriage served as different grounds for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right away, he told his wife and Mitch about it. While Blanche was taking a bath she was singing, But
it wouldn t be make believe if you believe in me ( Williams 1861). Blanche knows that she lied to
Mitch and kept the truth from her sister. Thus, the lyrics she was singing show that she lives in her
world of illusions. That day, she was expecting Mitch to come over to celebrate her birthday.
However, he did not show up. At a table, Stanley gave Blanche a ticket back to Laurel as a gift,
knowing that she can not go back there. Stella was upset about it because she knew that it will ruin her
tender and trusting sister (Williams 1865). According to Encyclopedia Britannica, psychotic behavior
can come and go as a result of various influences. The effects of some drugs can cause psychotic
episodes, or a traumatic situation that affects a person s psychological well being might trigger the
episode of neurosis ( Neurosis ). Blanche feels like her future is slipping away from her and becomes
highly neurotic. In her head, she hears the same polka tune, the Varsouviana , (after which Allen shot
himself) and she started to drink to escape the reality (Williams 1866). The Same night when Mitch
came to confront her, she admits to him about intimacies and school expulsion. When he said that she
told him all lies, in return she said, Never inside, I didn t lie in my heart and I don t want realism. I
want magic! (Williams 1869). Maybe in her mind she was still married to Allen. At the very last, it
gives Blanche a credit for her honesty. Nothing in the play justifies the condemnation of her. Yet,
nothing justifies her innocence either after her husband s death (Thomieres

Evolution Of Jazz And Blues. The Music Styles Of Jazz And
Evolution of Jazz and Blues The music styles of Jazz and Blues are both considered to be great
American musical art forms (Covach, 2015). These styles are also two very important roots of music
and have evolved from the late 19th century and early 20th century to lead to the development of
Rock and Roll. Jazz and Blues both originated from African American communities when slaves were
brought over to North America from Africa (Schuller, 1986). As time passed and the culture of
America was constantly changing, so was the music of that time period. The country was starting to
recover from slavery and many Caucasians and African Americans were beginning to emerge in the

The Classic Blues were established by female vocalists like Ma Rainey, Mamie Smith, and Bessie
Smith (Ferris, 2009). The Urban Blues were basically the Delta Blues but enhanced with electric
guitars (Covach, 2015). This form of Blues helped to spark the Great Northern Migration. This
migration resulted in many African American musicians moving north to escape slavery and find
better jobs (Covach, 2015). A few of the artists that we get in the Blues genre are B.B. King, Muddy
Waters, and Bo Diddley (Ferris, 2009). These artists began producing music that followed the twelve
bar form and mimicked the call and response style of old field hollers (Covach, 2015). The Blues
paved the way for the up and coming form of the Jazz genre called Rhythm Blues and eventually it
will lead to the creation of Rock Roll. The Blues had an influence on many of the bands and artists in
the Rock Roll era. One of the most famous being The Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones are a British
band that rose to fame during the British Invasion in the United States (Covach, 2015). They have
referenced The Blues as being a huge influence if their music.

Aristotle Soul Of Tragedy Analysis
For Aristotle, the unity of temporality guarantees the unity of the plot s action. The dramatic action,
being the mimesis of representation, demands a certain magnitude to expand the temporality of the
plot, a length which allows of the hero passing by a series of probable of necessary stages from bad
fortune to good, or from good to bad, may suffice as a limit for magnitude of a story (Aristotle,
1450b45) Aristotle uses the subject of the Odyssey as an example of a tragic plot which encompasses
the coherent totality of unity of time and unity of action, Homer, in writing an Odyssey, he did not
make the poem cover all that ever befell his hero it befell him (Aristotle, 1451a25). Plot is the soul of
tragedy that forms meaning necessary to make sense of human action for the spectacle (L3, Aristotle
Tragedy). Thus, the spectator is able to reason and make probable through the mimesis of action
contain in the plots soul of tragedy.
Reversal, recognition, and suffering are elements that encompass the soul of tragedy the plot. The
dramatic plot, the soul of tragedy, is a, whole that that which has a beginning, middle, and end
(Aristotle, 1451a19). According to Aristotle, a good poet often stretched out beyond its capabilities,
and is thus obliged to twist the sequence of incident (Aristotle, 1451b37). With this, he believes that
the reversal is the change in fortune, described from one state of things within the play to its opposite,
and that too as we say, the

Motivation doesn t always follow the hierarchy as Maslow s theory of needs.

The children s book Watertower, by Gary Crew and illustrated by Steven Woolman, is simple when
individually read in text and illustration, but when placed together becomes unusually complex. Most
eight to twelve year olds who would read this story could find it amusing or entertaining, but when
read by someone older and wiser, they might apply past experiences to form opinions for each element
in reading the illustrations and text individually, then combined. The reader is able to construct his or
her thoughts by observing the small keys in each photo. Some of these keys are the use of color,
setting, expression and focus in the scenery and objects around.
The visuals in this story take the reader to a farm town close to an old, abandoned water tower. The
two characters mainly focused on throughout the illustration are young boys around the age of ten.
The photos showed the two boys vote to go inside the water tower for a swim when one boys decides
to go and stand on top of the tower, leaving his friend inside the eerie water by himself. When his
friend finally come up out of the water, he runs into town, climbs through a window to get inside a
house. During this time you are able to see the boy left at the tower. He sits beneath a tree waiting and
watching for his friend to return. When the boy finally makes it back to the watertown, the boys
decided to both come into town together. A few of these photos stand out to a reader when shown this

The Cost Of Tax Losses
1. Introduction: In general term, loses in the business occur whenever company s total expenses
exceed its total income. And generally in every country, business in a loss position do not have to pay

countries New Zealand, Australia and Nepal 2. New Zealand: Expenses and losses are deductible to
the extent that they are incurred in the acquisition of assessable income or incur in carrying the
business for that purpose, provided that they are not a capital or private or domestic nature or fact

their total deductions. As part of the basic tax equation, available tax losses are subtracted from net
income to give the taxable income (Alley, et al., 2014). 2.1 Treatment of Losses: Individuals: Tax loss
of investment, business or residence can be offset against other income (including wages and salaries)

US National Public Debt Essay
The national debt is the result of a state s borrowing from its population, from foreign governments, or
from international institutions such as the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Public debts tend to be large scale credit operations and are contracted on a national scale by central
governments and on a lesser scale by provincial, regional, district, and municipal administrative
bodies. In the U.S., public debts are also contracted by the states and by local governments, primarily
for public works.
Kinds of Debt
National public debts are contracted chiefly through the flotation of interest paying loans, in the form
of bonds, bills, or notes. Historically, these loans have been undertaken to raise money for wars ...

Although government loans are for the most part not secured by physical assets, they are regarded in
law as contracts carrying an obligation on the part of the debtor to repay. Nevertheless, governments,
when hard pressed during economic crises or as a result of political upheavals, have sometimes
repudiated their public debts in whole or in part. In many cases, also, a government to whom another
is in debt may agree to forgive the debt or reschedule its payment over a longer period.
History
In earlier times debts contracted by heads of state had the legal status of personal debt; public debt
emerged as a systematic element in a country s economy when regular sources of income became
available to provide funds to repay loans, a monetary system became fully formed, and an organized
money market came into operation. The first examples of public debt surfaced in the late 17th century
in Europe and became more prevalent with the rise of the modern state and the banking and credit
system that grew out of the Industrial Revolution.
Today, the finances involved in contracting and redeeming the public debt of a country are a sizable
proportion of its government budget. As the money for redemption of the public debt is raised
principally through taxation, the size of the national debt is a factor in determining taxation rates.

To What Extent Is Lorca’s Use of Symbolism and Imagery in...
To what extent is Lorca s use of symbolism and imagery in The House of Bernarda Alba central to the
unfolding of his tragic tale?
When Federico Garcia Lorca talked about his new play, The House of Bernarda Alba, he said that it
was pure realism and did not have a drop of poetry in it, however if you look closely you can see
expressionism elements. The tragedy of the play has been emphasised by symbolism and imagery to
help the unfolding of his tragic tale by presenting the fears, the fact that They ve been robbed of the
capacity of hope and tensions of all the characters; showing the bleak ending for the girls.
Lorca has used the symbol of heat in The House of Bernarda Alba to show the utter desperation for
passion and male attention: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This symbolism is rather tragic in a way as everyone knows that white does not stay clean forever. The
colour white also emphasises the colour black which the family are forced to wear by Bernarda: keep
your mourning clothes on your backs . The symbolic use of black reminds the audience of just how
long Bernarda s daughters will have to endure the mourning of Antonio Maria Benavides and how
much it will affect them. On the other hand the traditional colour the black stand for is death, and there
is an abundance of that in this play. At the end of Act Two there is a women who has had a bastard
baby and Bernarda reacts in a horrible was Let any woman who drags her honour in the dirt pay the
price . This could foreshadow what is going to happen to Adela as she has dragged her honour in the
dirt . Also there is a question at weather she is pregnant: clutching herself . This could show that Adela
is pregnant and that she sympathises with the women who is being tortured.
In a way Bernarda is sentencing these girls to life of solitude and unhappiness and Adela also selfishly
prolongs this by killing herself. The lack of colour and of personal opinions in this house hold almost
represents a type asylum, or as is suggested They appear as nuns, not as eligible young women . This
lack of colour makes Adela s lover for colour stand out even more.

Advertising is protected by the First Amendment of the United States constitution. Conversely,
advertising requires less control from the First Amendment, but requires the majority of control from

does explain that companies and services are not allowed to exaggerate their content or images in

When the Separatists bordered the ship, the Mayflower, with other individuals seeking different lands,
such as Captain Myles Standish, a popular soldier, the ship missed its destination and landed in New
England. Upon arriving, the group chose leaders that would effectively lead the group, such as
William Bradford, a self taught scholar who could speak many languages and communicate with
many different types of people and was later discovered to be elected 30 times as governor for the
Pilgrims. The chosen leaders of this group of people, the Pilgrims, created a brief Mayflower Compact
which signified an agreement to form a crude government and always submit to the regulation of
majority rules . This pact was a step towards the idea of America s self government. Since the Pilgrims
wisely chose educated leaders, the population usually got along well, and its colonization made it one
of the most moral and spiritual at the time. The Pilgrims fought through harsh winters and celebrated
bountiful harvests, which would later lead to the creation of Thanksgiving, and demonstrated a
working, tiny settlement with no internal

Water in New Jersey Essays
Water in New Jersey
Residential, commercial and industrial development is the largest contributors to landscape change in
the state of New Jersey. When buildout occurs in one region, development pressure begins in another,
virtually insuring the Megalopolis concept of one huge urban corridor stretching between Boston and
Washington D.C. Year after year, farmland dwindles, roads become congested, and more residents are
left to compete for diminishing natural resources. Desperate measures and newer technologies are
incorporated to replace poor planning and lack of vision on behalf of decision makers caught between
competing interests. When the long term health and wellbeing of the established population and the
short term gain of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the competition for a vital resource is between residents and crops, human health and wellbeing
takes precedence as a matter of policy. When this competition is between one group of residents and
another group of residents, the only solution is to spread the resource even thinner often leading to
inequities among citizens of differing financial or political influence. Decision makers should have a
zero tolerance agenda concerning any threat to our groundwater resources. This paper proposes that
future growth needs to take into account our dependence on surface and subsurface water resources
when planning developments and incorporating water resource studies into legislation meant to guide
further development in New Jersey. The impact on citizens affected by new construction may not be
felt until a crisis occurs and then it will be too late. With the remaining southwestern agricultural
counties ripe for development it s never too late to change our vision of the landscape and refuse to
gamble with the future needs of our citizens.
Groundwater Supplies and Their Description in the Southwestern Agricultural Counties
The counties of Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem are situated in the southwest corner of New Jersey
and are historically known as fruit and vegetable producing areas with abundant groundwater
resources available for irrigation purposes. These counties fall within the

Anthropocentric Environmental Ethics
A critique against the Western anthropocentric environmental ethics, using the treatment of animals
and their rights as an example.
Brennan (1984) defined environmental ethics as the discipline in philosophy that studies the moral
relationship of human beings to and also the value and moral status of the environment and its non
human contents. This essay will look at environmental ethics as a discipline, its development and
challenges, the anthropocentric and non anthropocentric approaches, the critiques of
anthropocentrism, the use of animal rights as an example of the importance of non anthropocentrism
Contemporary environmental ethics only emerged as an academic discipline in the 1970 s (Dasgupta,
2001). According to Brennan (1984), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer is that suffering is suffering and love is love and we cannot wipe out human suffering
without addressing the suffering of all living beings. The person who would brutalize an innocent
animal is the same person who would brutalize his or her closest relative. Any place that suffering can
be addressed is a good place to focus attention. Many humans have an attitude that restricts their
ability to understand or empathize with non human animals and other life forms and has some serious
implications for all life on this planet. Animals or other life forms that don t express themselves in
human ways by language or in terms easily comprehensible by common human standards are often
considered less developed, inferior, more primitive or mechanistic, and usually of less importance than
humans (Dominick, 1998). This viewpoint has been used to justify using animals as objects for human
ends. Since humans are the superior creatures, dumb, unfeeling non humans can be disregarded,
mistreated, killed or whole species eliminated without much concern for their existence in itself, only
their usefulness or lack of it to humankind (Harvey, 2005). Many humans, as they see other animals
are more like them in patterns of behavior and expression of intelligence, begin to respect them more

How Is Kingdom Of Heaven Historically Accurate
Although the movie Kingdom of Heaven was based on a true historical event, not all the scenes are
accurate. The relationships, knights, and weapons seen in the movie do not all add up to the way
things were during the Second Crusade. Hollywood movie directors are in it for the money. They want
to make an action packed movie. They do not care if everything in the movie is historically correct.
Although the movie was not all historically correct, it still does a good job of portraying what
happened during the Second Crusade. These are some events that happened in the movie. I will tell
you why they are not all historically correct. Some relationships in this movie were not quite portrayed
the way they actually were. For example, in the movie it shows Balian not being acquainted with
father, when actually Balian was not as illegitimate as the movie portrayed him to be. Also, Balian had
two brothers. Baldwin, his older brother was actually the one to fall in love with Sybilla. There is no
record of any type of romance between Balin and Sybilla. In the movie it portrays Sybilla as hating
Guy de Lusignan, and even said she was forced to marry him. According to

It took a lot of training and many years to become a knight. According to the book Knights of
Crusades by Jay Williams, Chivalry itself was now practically a religious order, with its own rules, its
own rituals, and its own special codes of behavior. Many people wanted to be knights because they
thought it was their religious duty. In the movie, Balian made every able bodied man into a knight to
try and defeat the Muslims. Balian could have very well done this, but the men would not be trained to
be a knight. They did not have the experience or training as the muslims, but would still do anything
to protect their Holy Land. This land was holy for the Muslims, Christians, and the

A Farewell To Arms Symbolism Analysis
The novel A Farewell to Arms focuses a lot on symbolism. In the novel, Hemingway depicts weather
in more ways than one. For example, he depicts it realistically by showing how weather took a big
part in the war experience, but it was more symbolic. This showed a lot of importance to me as it
foreshadowed the story. The weather symbolized the mood of the story, the way the characters felt,
and gave us a clue to what we could predict would happen later in the story. The rain was symbolizing
a depressing mood and sometimes even a prediction of death. For example, in the story, Catherine
would always imagine herself dead in the rain. Later in the story, she had passed away after giving
birth to her son due to ... in the rain. Fredrick lost Catherine and his son and this was no coincidence
that it was raining. In the beginning of the story, Hemingway mentioned how it was the end of fall,
where the leaves on the tree fell down to the ground and turned dead with autumn. I felt Hemingway
was trying to give us a hint that in the story rain was not a good thing.
Different from other works of literature , the rain was a symbol of death and snow was a symbol of
relief, safety, and hope. Hemingway uses the snowy winter weather as a comic relief at a point in the
story. This is where the Swiss Policemen were arguing about the winter sports. There is also a point in
the story where Frederick and Catherine are in the Swiss Alps surrounded by snow. This is where
these two are happy to be in love and can finally enjoy it for once. They are finally worried about each
other and nothing else. They are finally safe and happy at this point in the story.
Not only was weather a big part of Hemingway s examples of symbolism, but alcoholism was another
big one. Alcohol took a big part in the story because it was the only way that the people thought they
were able to have a good time with everything going on. In this novel Hemingway never refused a
drink. Fredrick even gets an alcohol disease from drinking too much. I think alcohol was a way that
everyone coped with their problems. They were in a depressing and sad time because of the war, and
them constantly losing loved ones, so it was the only way they new how to celebrate the

Antony And Cleopatra Literary Analysis
Throughout William Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra, the titular characters are not often painted
in the best of lights. Quite often seen as selfish, overbearing, lazy, arrogant or obsessive, one
nevertheless feels drawn to them on the stage and much of that is to do with the grandeur of their
language where grandeur in this sense meaning eloquent and poetic language that utilises an
abundance of metaphors and hyperboles This essay will be examining the difference in speech
between the principal characters characters (that being Antony, Cleopatra, and Caesar) and how that
affects the audience s view of them, how the grandeur of the language of the principal characters
changes over the course of the play and if grandeur of language does indeed make up for a lack of
other types of greatness. Throughout the play, the audience can hear how both Antony s and Cleopatra
s conception of themselves is expressed through the hyperbolic language when talking about
themselves and each other and also when other characters are talking about them. From the very outset
of the play, the audience gets a grasp on the perceived greatness of Antony from Philo s speech about
his transformation from the triple pillar of the world to the strumpet s fool . In belittling Antony, Philo
also causes him to seem greater as he uses great hyperboles and heroic metaphors such as describing
Antony s captain s heart...burst[ing]/The buckles on his breast and using over complicated language to

When Looking at a well know published magazine like Vogue, Glamour, and Top Model, they all show beautiful women with extraordinary beauty and amazing sense of style and fashion. But when looking at the models, do they really resemble the average women reading these magazines that the ads and articles are intended for? Women and men are going through great lengths hurting themselves to achieve such figures that the magazines show as beautiful. • 3. European Court of Justice Introduction: We have chosen to write this assignment on the European Court of Justice (ECJ), looking into its role in the European integration process, and how its rulings and judgments have affected the business framework. We will also be looking into the effects of its rulings on state sovereignty, and how in some cases its rulings have limited states power over certain policy areas and handed them to the European Union. We will start by looking at the radical jurisprudence of the European court of justice, and what political reactions have arisen to that, and how that has changed/affected the integration process. To get a better understanding, we will incorporate the use of neo functionalism and rational choice new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason behind the spillover effect is increased effectiveness. Two important spillovers here are functional and political. This allows institutions to expand their activities to areas not under their jurisdiction/mandate so they can function more effectively. In cases regarding free trade there is bound to be an increasing amount of spillover, due to the wide ranging nature of the economic issues, especially on issues such as trade barriers and tariffs. This has been evident from the verdict in the case of Cassis de Dijon which we will return to later on. Based on various rulings the ECJ could be seen as an active promoter of the spillover effect. In the Maastricht treaty the principle of subsidiarity was incorporated into the treaty, which the British government pushed for. The reason for this was to limit the transfer of power from the member states to the EU institutions. The decisions should be taken at the lowest possible level, closest to the citizen. However, the concept of subsidiarity remains to be defined clearly, and thus holds immense ambiguity. As a consequence, subsidiarity can be used as an argument both by those who desire greater autonomy for member states and by those who want the EU to become a federation. Neofunctionalism argues that actors, whether ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being a disaccharide, the body only needs to attain the straightforward process of breaking down a two molecule chain of carbohydrates by transporting the fructose molecule directly to the liver to be converted into glucose to be absorbed in the blood. If cravings are satisfied, and made into a habit, a continuous buildup of glucose stores take place. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Genetically Modified Organisms Genetically Modified Organisms Transgenics and Biopharming In today s world, the need for more efficient and better quality foods grows greater. The population on earth is thought to increase to nine billion by the year 2050. To support this population, the application of biotechnology is used to modify foods. The reason why foods are genetically modified is to produce better quality food which can also fight off pests, insects, weeds and diseases. Not only can you insert genes to induce these effects, you can also insert genes to produce medicines which is called biopharming. This then allows farmers to reduce the use of pesticides and herbicides (agric.wa.gov.au). GMOs can help protect the world s food supply and reduce the cost on farmers ... Many lives were lost due to these wars and many nations grieved these losses, especially Britain. The world, after the two wars, turned to despair and all faith and trust in God in a movement of modernism. Through this movement of modernism people rejected the idea of the antiques and lost faith in religion. With the world wars, leading to the postmodern period, this only got worse. The first story to be published was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The pevensie children are evacuated into the country during the midst of world war two. While under the care of professor Kirke they come to find a wardrobe where it leads to the fictitious land of Narnia. Narnia seems beautiful, but has been under the control of the white witch for at least a hundred years and the children are called to defeat her with the help of the Christ like figure, Aslan. When Aslan sacrifices himself the children must somehow defeat the witch, but due to a deeper magic that has been around before the dawn of time,in which an innocent person will one day be resurrected. When Aslan resurrects he helps defeat the witch and peace is restored. This story helps give hope that good will always conquer evil, no matter how grim it seems as Jesus did when He sacrificed himself on the cross for us and resurrected three days later. While not only finding God in the midst of suffering, there is also the fact that we need to live in virtue. T.S. Elliott explains this in his poem, The Waste Land, in which he describes a society that has become violent and immoral, much like the society described in Lord of the Flies where children are left on an island and must survive. • 14. Hate Crime And The United Kingdom Whilst hate crime has been represented in the media and legislation for many years, particularly in the US, definitions of the term have been transient and changing. The Home Office issued a report in 2013 which demonstrated to both the public and law enforcement officials the most recent formal definition of hate crime in the United Kingdom: any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice towards someone based on a personal characteristic (Home Office, 2013). Reviewing statistics on hate crime in the United Kingdom, it becomes clear that there are two main official sources for data; the Crime Survey for England and Wales, and crime recorded by the police. Based on combined data from the CSEW 2011/12 and 2012/13, there was an estimated 278,000 hate crimes taken place on average each year (Home Office, 2013). However, when compared with the data shown by police recorded crime, there are huge disparities. Between 2012/13, only 42,236 incidents of hate crime were recorded by police, which accounts for approximately 1% of all recorded crime (Home Office, 2013). It can be argued that hate crime is an umbrella term (Johnson, 2013: 317), such crimes are now also classified by five specific strands, which are annually monitored by police forces in the UK in order to evaluate the effects of preventive methods, and to calculate any fluctuations in trends of hate crime. This film narrates Oedipus life and how the oracle affects his life. The fact that Stravinsky Opera is a loose adaptation makes the film different than what we could imagine while reading the original play, besides the film shows us that the director is able to see through situation, interpret them and demonstrate how everything happened instead of making a summary of certain moments like how Sophocles did in Oedipus Rex s play. Only the men who could skillfully control the strength and speed of a horse were likely to survive in combat. Over time the word came to stand for much more, in particular, a code of behavior, conduct and ethics to which all knights were held. These knights were bound by a code of honor. Each knight had to swear that he would defend the weak, the poor, widows, orphans, and the oppressed. The Knight has a religious and moral obligation that is partly based on his oath to serve God. Almost every European knight was quick to protect the church and to fight its enemies. • 23. My Most Unforgettable Week Of My Life POW! I dive left to go for the save. The game had just ended and we were now in the penalty shootout. I had to make so many saves in the game to get us to a PK shootout. Back in March, my parents signed me up for the soccer camp with a friend. Last year my parents won a ticket for the soccer camp, at first I did not want to go but since the camp was full and there were no other tickets I had to go so I did. After the first two days I really liked the camp, by the end of it I realized that it would have been more fun with a friend. This year we got a friend that could go to it this time. There were supposed to be three of us, but one of the friend s parent forgot to sign their kid into the camp. This was my most unforgettable week of my life because this was just such a good camp, plus I got one of my highlights of my goalie career to me. The camp that I went to was at Dail soccer/track complex at NC State University. It had a baseball field right next to it with a camp going on for softball. It also took place on the other two fields across the street, yet there is a tunnel underneath the street that we took. For the games for overtime it did not work the same as normal we went straight to the penalty shootout, instead of having two overtime periods. This week happened to me because my parents were able to sign me up for the camp. My parents learned about the camp from last year. They had won a ticket into the camp and since it was sold out my parents looked at the web page for it to see what it was about and thought I would enjoy it, so I went to it. On the first day of camp we went and filled everything out so I could have fun and any insurance for the camp, I don t know I went to the camp to have fun I did not pay any attention to the signing in anything else to start the camp. After that, I went and found my group I was supposed to be in which turned out to be the second goalie group. In the second goalie group, we were more like a group of people that have some problems with ourselves. Most of the people in our group would talk when our coach talked or wanted them to pay attention. In many cases, also, a government to whom another is in debt may agree to forgive the debt or reschedule its payment over a longer period. The Federal Trade Commission enforces these truth in advertising laws, and it applies the same standards no matter where an advertisement appears in newspapers and magazines, online, in the mail, or on billboards or buses. The Federal Trade Commission does not have one clear definition, but it does explain that companies and services are not allowed to exaggerate their content or images in order to advertise to their consumers to purchase a specific product or service. Again, these advertisements can be seen throughout the media as well as in the public. Another legal definition can be found under the Lanham Act where it is defined as, Under Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act, a claim can be made against a defendant for false or misleading advertising. When the Separatists bordered the ship, the Mayflower, with other individuals seeking different lands, such as Captain Myles Standish, a popular soldier, the ship missed its destination and landed in New England. Upon arriving, the group chose leaders that would effectively lead the group, such as William Bradford, a self taught scholar who could speak many languages and communicate with many different types of people and was later discovered to be elected 30 times as governor for the Pilgrims. The chosen leaders of this group of people, the Pilgrims, created a brief Mayflower Compact which signified an agreement to form a crude government and always submit to the regulation of majority rules . This pact was a step towards the idea of America s self government. Since the Pilgrims wisely chose educated leaders, the population usually got along well, and its colonization made it one of the most moral and spiritual at the time. The Pilgrims fought through harsh winters and celebrated bountiful harvests, which would later lead to the creation of Thanksgiving, and demonstrated a working, tiny settlement with no internal ... • 40. Water in New Jersey Essays Water in New Jersey Residential, commercial and industrial development is the largest contributors to landscape change in the state of New Jersey. When buildout occurs in one region, development pressure begins in another, virtually insuring the Megalopolis concept of one huge urban corridor stretching between Boston and Washington D.C. Year after year, farmland dwindles, roads become congested, and more residents are left to compete for diminishing natural resources. Desperate measures and newer technologies are incorporated to replace poor planning and lack of vision on behalf of decision makers caught between competing interests. When the long term health and wellbeing of the established population and the short term gain of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the competition for a vital resource is between residents and crops, human health and wellbeing takes precedence as a matter of policy. When this competition is between one group of residents and another group of residents, the only solution is to spread the resource even thinner often leading to inequities among citizens of differing financial or political influence. Decision makers should have a zero tolerance agenda concerning any threat to our groundwater resources. This paper proposes that future growth needs to take into account our dependence on surface and subsurface water resources when planning developments and incorporating water resource studies into legislation meant to guide further development in New Jersey. The impact on citizens affected by new construction may not be felt until a crisis occurs and then it will be too late. With the remaining southwestern agricultural counties ripe for development it s never too late to change our vision of the landscape and refuse to gamble with the future needs of our citizens. Groundwater Supplies and Their Description in the Southwestern Agricultural Counties The counties of Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem are situated in the southwest corner of New Jersey and are historically known as fruit and vegetable producing areas with abundant groundwater resources available for irrigation purposes. These counties fall within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Anthropocentric Environmental Ethics A critique against the Western anthropocentric environmental ethics, using the treatment of animals and their rights as an example. Brennan (1984) defined environmental ethics as the discipline in philosophy that studies the moral relationship of human beings to and also the value and moral status of the environment and its non human contents. This essay will look at environmental ethics as a discipline, its development and challenges, the anthropocentric and non anthropocentric approaches, the critiques of anthropocentrism, the use of animal rights as an example of the importance of non anthropocentrism Contemporary environmental ethics only emerged as an academic discipline in the 1970 s (Dasgupta, 2001). According to Brennan (1984), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The answer is that suffering is suffering and love is love and we cannot wipe out human suffering without addressing the suffering of all living beings. The person who would brutalize an innocent animal is the same person who would brutalize his or her closest relative. Any place that suffering can be addressed is a good place to focus attention. Many humans have an attitude that restricts their ability to understand or empathize with non human animals and other life forms and has some serious implications for all life on this planet. Animals or other life forms that don t express themselves in human ways by language or in terms easily comprehensible by common human standards are often considered less developed, inferior, more primitive or mechanistic, and usually of less importance than humans (Dominick, 1998). This viewpoint has been used to justify using animals as objects for human ends. Since humans are the superior creatures, dumb, unfeeling non humans can be disregarded, mistreated, killed or whole species eliminated without much concern for their existence in itself, only their usefulness or lack of it to humankind (Harvey, 2005). Many humans, as they see other animals are more like them in patterns of behavior and expression of intelligence, begin to respect them more and treat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. How Is Kingdom Of Heaven Historically Accurate Although the movie Kingdom of Heaven was based on a true historical event, not all the scenes are accurate. The relationships, knights, and weapons seen in the movie do not all add up to the way things were during the Second Crusade. Hollywood movie directors are in it for the money. They want to make an action packed movie. They do not care if everything in the movie is historically correct. Although the movie was not all historically correct, it still does a good job of portraying what happened during the Second Crusade. These are some events that happened in the movie. I will tell you why they are not all historically correct. Some relationships in this movie were not quite portrayed the way they actually were. For example, in the movie it shows Balian not being acquainted with father, when actually Balian was not as illegitimate as the movie portrayed him to be. Also, Balian had two brothers. Baldwin, his older brother was actually the one to fall in love with Sybilla. There is no record of any type of romance between Balin and Sybilla. In the movie it portrays Sybilla as hating Guy de Lusignan, and even said she was forced to marry him. According to medievalreader.wordpress.com, Sibylla says I choose as my king and husband, ... Many people wanted to be knights because they thought it was their religious duty. In the movie, Balian made every able bodied man into a knight to try and defeat the Muslims. Balian could have very well done this, but the men would not be trained to be a knight. • 43. A Farewell To Arms Symbolism Analysis The novel A Farewell to Arms focuses a lot on symbolism. In the novel, Hemingway depicts weather in more ways than one. For example, he depicts it realistically by showing how weather took a big part in the war experience, but it was more symbolic. This showed a lot of importance to me as it foreshadowed the story. The weather symbolized the mood of the story, the way the characters felt, and gave us a clue to what we could predict would happen later in the story. The rain was symbolizing a depressing mood and sometimes even a prediction of death. For example, in the story, Catherine would always imagine herself dead in the rain. Later in the story, she had passed away after giving birth to her son due to ... in the rain. Fredrick lost Catherine and his son and this was no coincidence that it was raining. In the beginning of the story, Hemingway mentioned how it was the end of fall, where the leaves on the tree fell down to the ground and turned dead with autumn. I felt Hemingway was trying to give us a hint that in the story rain was not a good thing. Different from other works of literature , the rain was a symbol of death and snow was a symbol of relief, safety, and hope. Hemingway uses the snowy winter weather as a comic relief at a point in the story. This is where the Swiss Policemen were arguing about the winter sports. There is also a point in the story where Frederick and Catherine are in the Swiss Alps surrounded by snow. This is where these two are happy to be in love and can finally enjoy it for once. They are finally worried about each other and nothing else. They are finally safe and happy at this point in the story. Not only was weather a big part of Hemingway s examples of symbolism, but alcoholism was another big one. Alcohol took a big part in the story because it was the only way that the people thought they were able to have a good time with everything going on. In this novel Hemingway never refused a drink. Fredrick even gets an alcohol disease from drinking too much. I think alcohol was a way that everyone coped with their problems. They were in a depressing and sad time because of the war, and them constantly losing loved ones, so it was the only way they new how to celebrate the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Antony And Cleopatra Literary Analysis Throughout William Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra, the titular characters are not often painted in the best of lights. Quite often seen as selfish, overbearing, lazy, arrogant or obsessive, one nevertheless feels drawn to them on the stage and much of that is to do with the grandeur of their language where grandeur in this sense meaning eloquent and poetic language that utilises an abundance of metaphors and hyperboles This essay will be examining the difference in speech between the principal characters characters (that being Antony, Cleopatra, and Caesar) and how that affects the audience s view of them, how the grandeur of the language of the principal characters changes over the course of the play and if grandeur of language does indeed make up for a lack of other types of greatness. Throughout the play, the audience can hear how both Antony s and Cleopatra s conception of themselves is expressed through the hyperbolic language when talking about themselves and each other and also when other characters are talking about them. From the very outset of the play, the audience gets a grasp on the perceived greatness of Antony from Philo s speech about his transformation from the triple pillar of the world to the strumpet s fool . In belittling Antony, Philo also causes him to seem greater as he uses great hyperboles and heroic metaphors such as describing Antony s captain s heart...burst[ing]/The buckles on his breast and using over complicated language to describe a ...
